What's the point of this sideblog?

Well, really I just wanted to post abt helluva boss (idc abt hazbin btw) without it being connected to my main blog. I don't rlly care for vivzie & ppl are quick to judge so I’d rather keep a separate blog, especially given the adult nature of the show. I also want to hoard my aesthetic shit here and anything funny that won’t fit in my main’s queue.

I use procreate on ipad with an apple pencil (btw if ur thinking of getting a second gen pencil—do not LMAO this shit is annoying and i miss my first gen one).

Recently I’ve been using procreate’s ‘shale brush’ to line my works, but in my older drawings you’ll see me using a modified ‘HB pencil’. I have various brushes from packs and bundles I’ve saved that I sometimes use, such as Retro Supply, Joes set, clem’s brushes, feast’s pencils, and LP’s painting set, but I mainly stick to a few favorites and modify them.

Do not be afraid to leave tags especially, bitches (me, along with many others) LOVE seeing peoples tags on stuff. It’s also pretty widely accepted that spam is super cool too btw, but if ur REALLY worried about that, there’s an option to queue ur reblogs or schedule it for a later time :) but again, don’t stress! <3

Okay I’m making this while tired but I figure I can at least get it started and smart people can add on. if you’re here from jrwitwt first off HELLO!!! Welcome. I know there have been several posts going around saying watch your step, we do things differently here, and to get with it, that might seem a bit intimidating. So I wanted to make this non-exhaustive list of how tumblr works and HOW we do things different so you can get settled in :)

also these are just to the best of my ability and based off my time here i am by no means a standard, just a starting point

-You might’ve heard this one already but there isn’t much of an algorithm here. You can follow certain tags and blogs. The best way to find people is to just scroll through tags and check out blogs whose posts you enjoyed

-reblogging is standard. Likes are typically for letting a mutual(or anyone rlly) know you saw their post or during liveblog sessions(at least that’s how I use them) while we have replies on posts that might look like a comment section. It really isn’t most of the time. Comments are normally put in the tags of reblogs. It’s completely okay if your blog is just reblogs that’s super normal here. you don’t have to have an original thought if you don’t want to

-If you really don’t want to post/lurk and only follow ppl, change your pfp so we know you aren’t a bot. Blank blogs have a history of being bots and if we can’t tell you’re a person a lot of people will block on sight. Just fair warning

-We do a lot of blocking here. If you don’t like someone’s posts, block em and keep going. The filter tags system on tumblr really works(I’ve heard twt is fussy and not great) and most people tag things appropriately here so you Will Not see the shit you don’t want to

-TAG THINGS APPROPRIATELY PLEASE it’s a give and take. When it comes to spoilers, as long as the original poster tagged it you normally don’t have to tag it again in a reblog but you can out of courtesy

-Bonus point a lot of us use “jrwilb” as a tag when everyone is on the dash liveblogging a stream ep or just when they get around to watching it. Some people have personalized ones, and some ppl also main tag their liveblogs so it’s just a good one to know ahead of time

-People chit chat through asks frequently. You don’t have to feel shy abt it, esp if you are being friendly. But if you’re anxious a lot of people leave on anon asks so you don’t have to have your name attached

-We don’t really do callouts/negativity posts. If you see a take or headcanon you aren’t fond of going around. You can block/filter, or you can make a positivity post or post abt your own interpretation!!! A lot of people here love different takes and headcanons and try to value all of them. Again, if one squicks you really bad, filter/block it. If you really wanna complain, be sure to do it in dms or a private discord server

-our concept of what jokes are okay to post are very lax. there really isnt an official thing but i’ve tended to notice we dont really tend to do anything the council havent done. we joke abt gillion tits and eggs here because the council have done it. we have made very lewd jokes because  . . . mcs and everything else grizzly does when he’s not playing dakota. so be prepared to be jarred by how . . . interesting it gets here

I read the notes on a post of yours recently, and I was wondering if you would go into what queerplatonic relationships mean to you? All I know about the idea is some people say it’s just friends and others say it isn’t but I’ve never heard an argument for what it actually is

i'm gonna preface this by saying im not in a qpr, i've just read a lot about them because they really interest me and i thinking having one would be nice if i found the right person/people. also qpr's are something much more prevalent in aro(spec) communities, and i am alloromantic asexual.

queerplatonic relationships can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people but the jist of it is they are relationships that queer the idea of what a relationship can be from the lens of amatonornative society. this can mean people in a platonic relationship who get married, live together, raise kids, etc. and may LOOK like a romantic couple from the outside but there's no romantic attraction involved whatsoever. it may mean people who feel like their relationship is more than platonic, but doesn't feel romantic either, living comfortably within the grey area (see alterous attraction). it can mean people who prioritize their platonic relationships more than any other kin of relationship.

these are just a few examples, and you can find a lot more resources all around the internet. there are a lot of youtube videos of people in qpr's explaining what their relationship is like and how it feels

i see a lot of 13 yr olds on tumblr these days, so id like to share some advice i wish i had known using tumblr at age 13.

this is also probably not an original idea from me lol, someone has got to have done this before. i would usually put this under a cut but ive decided not to for now

be aware that this site is like NOTORIOUSLY harmful. you may think you’re above it or too mature for it to hurt you, but trust me, you aren’t. since you will probably not be stopped by that warning, maybe take some precautions/keep some stuff in mind to stay safe.

i had tumblr savior for my first experiences with the site. im pretty sure it still works and it’s regularly updated, so take a look into that. it blocks posts with certain keywords from being seen on your radar, and can also push/allow posts with other keywords to always be shown. i would advise getting it or a similar extension to custom block triggering/harmful content.

don’t put other/more popular users in your fandom/community on a pedestal. they’re people behind a blog, just like you are. don’t feel intimidated by the people in your own community, they are just people the same way you are a person. they can mess up at times, and so can you.

making friends is a great thing on this site, but keep an eye on new online friends’ behaviors. it is exciting to meet new people, but you want to be aware of toxic friends. same goes for your mutuals. overall, keep people on this site at an arm’s length until you’ve gotten to know them enough personally to know that they’re genuine people. as you get older you can relax on this, but as a young teen it’s better to be hyperaware than to be blissfully ignorant as you get hurt.

onto more broad things, your theme doesn’t have to be perfect. you dont have to make a custom html/edited html website theme for your blog, you can leave it as tumblr default. if you enjoy organizing that, then by all means go ahead! but don’t feel like it is necessary for your blog, most of the time you will get a new theme set up and check on it on a month and find that it actually looks terrible to you. if you’d rather just have it as a basic/default site, then that is perfectly normal.

your blog’s theme/topic is your choice, and can be uniquely you. some people have many blogs for many things, just a few, or just one with everything. it is up to you how you want to do it! the themes you choose, topics, are up to you. fads and trends are cool but finding what works for you personally is way more fun. your blog is supposed to be fun. you are supposed to enjoy using tumblr. don’t compromise that for a trend. make your blog(s) however you want, however it pleases you. it can feel pressuring to have a perfect blog, but it’s better to just make your appearance the way it would make you happy.

also, tag systems are awesome! but they are not necessary unless you’re tagging trigger warnings. always tag those! but i know a lot of people have personal tagging systems to organize their blog, which is totally cool! but again, personal tag systems are not necessary, and if they feel unnecessary to you, don’t use them. but again, tag triggering content, especially if you are asked to.

archiving/deleting/creating new blogs is a whole other process. some people like to start with a clean slate every time they switch to a new fandom, and let their old user be archived or deleted. this is perfectly respectable (and probably the right thing to do) personally, i just switch my blog over to whatever im feeling that month and people can unfollow if they no longer enjoy my blog (i dont have that big of a following on this blog). it’s really a personal decision, and if you want to restart your blog you will know when to/if you want to.

reblog art, but never “repost” it. aka dont take the image and post it on your own blog, just reblog it from the original poster. its common sense but not everyone knows? idk

if you end up having some or many followers, make sure to check yourself. appreciate your followers, respect them. they are people with blogs. just like you. don’t let a high number inflate your ego way out of proportion, it’s easy to fall into that sense of power.

respect people’s pronouns. even if you for some reason have a disagreement with them, or you don’t understand why/how their identity works, just use the correct pronouns that they ask you to. it costs you zero dollars and zero cents, and is incredibly respectful

as a young teen, don’t get involved/let yourself get buried in tumblr-wide discourse. examples of this include the bi vs pan debate, flag discourse etc. most ppl who i know who were attentive to things similar to that at a young age ended up being affected negatively by it. pay some attention to what pertains to you and also pay attention to what you can identify as right or wrong, but don’t let people’s opinions on your dash influence you in times of discourse. go and look at both sides of those kinds of debates if you’re interested, and form an opinion from there.

speaking of which, sometimes people will just post their takes on literally anything and youll come across it. take everything with a grain of salt unless there is links to proof (if applicable, not always needed). sometimes bad takes just havent had someone to reblog and disprove yet.

speaking of discourse, there is always discourse on this site in every fandom, every community. form your own opinions always, but keep your moral compass in mind. don’t compromise your morals and sense of right and wrong to enjoy certain fan-media. if something seems off, it probably is.

people make mistakes, and if someone did something kind of shitty/had a terrible take/belief (not irredemably shitty, those ppl do not need ur attention) and they genuinely apologize for the shit they did and learn from it, move on. leave some shit in the past, holding grudges isnt good for your mental health and people change. but again, always take things with a grain of salt.

you dont need a high follower count to get traction on your posts. it might help, but you can have a low follower count with high interaction or a high follower count with little to know interaction. the best advice i have is to tag what it is relevant to, whether it’s a fandom, aesthetic, etc and people who regularly check those tags will find it.

if you ever get anon hate for some reason, just delete it from ur inbox n move on. ppl who send anon hate want to see you post it and respond to it. if they said some really really MEAN shit though, it may be best to talk to a friend about it for comfort, or take a break from tumblr for a hot min. most importantly, report it, close your ask box/change it to no anonymous asks.

if at some point you choose to voice your opinion about a highly debated topic at the time, be aware that people who disagree might attack you for it. be aware, and be safe about it.

a lot of people swear by xkit. i have never used it in my life, but from the looks of it, it makes using tumblr so much more bearable. it breaks sometimes with tumblr updates, but apparently it’s worth it. again, look into it, but it’s not necessary to use the site.

do niche shit. start sideblogs without a plan in mind. make aus, make art, make writing, or make nothing at all. reblog the things you love wherever you want them to be reblogged. comment on people’s creations if you love them, they probably would love to hear how much you enjoyed it. appreciate how wonderful the better part of this site is, enjoy the free access to view and appreciate others’ creations and ideas.

ace ppl aren't inherently lgbt...

I was going to explain why this is an ugly, untrue ask and how that phrase is exclusionary, but you know what, the posts I linked to did a great job explaining it, and I know there are definitely more out there explaining why this is. And just to nip this in the bud, any discourse asks will immediately be deleted. This blog is meant for celebrating rep, and if needed, pointing out how representation can be better portrayed. It is not, and will never become a discourse blog. 

So, instead, I’d like to take this time to remind my followers that asexuality, aromanticism, and all a-spec identities are not straight and that all people who identify as a-spec are a part of the community!

And, for any followers who are curious, here’s an extra special list of characters who are a-spec, and I hope you all have at least one that you enjoy reading or watching: 

Canon A-spec Characters: 

Todd Chavez - Bojack Horseman: came out as asexual in this season, and the show also explains aromanticism to Todd!) It’s a popular idea that Todd may learn more about aromanticism in the next season and use that label as well, but for now that’s just speculation amongst a few fans. 

Jughead Jones - Archie Comics: explicitly stated as asexual in this comic, but this isn’t new. He has been coded as ace throughout Archie history and is seen by many (including myself) as aro as well! 

Valentina “Voodoo” Dunacci - Sirens USA: romantic asexual, the show was unfortunately canceled but it was a great first start at showing people what asexuality was and providing rep

Raphael Santiago - Shadowhunters: confirmed in-show and by the author that he’s ace! CC also stated that he is aro. He’s also racial rep, which is awesome!

One issue I must note this is an author who changed a character’s identity from bi to pan in a tweet, and has had more problems with rep, making it hard for people to take her word, but in Raphael’s case this simply adds on more rep that’s very much needed. 

Sherlock Holmes: confirmed as ace by Benedict Cumberbatch and I believe Moffat. 

Issue: the show and actor’s comments can be more than a little problematic, there are also the books and various other versions of Sherlock. 

Varys - Game of Thrones: Aroace. Unfortunately he’s never labeled because in the GOT world these terms do not exist, but in the show he explicitly states that he has never been interested in people in any romantic/sexual way.

Gerald Tippett - Shortland Street: Unfortunately I don’t know much about this character beyond him being asexual. 

Daryl Dixon - The Walking Dead: confirmed as asexual by the show’s creator. 

Issue: The creator also described him as “straight”, and “somewhat” asexual, making me worry that he doesn’t (or to be fair, since this is from 2014, that 3 years ago he didn’t) have a good grasp on what asexuality is, but Daryl is still confirmed as ace. 

Sally Grissom - Ars Paradoxica: She’s asexual, and while I don’t listen to the podcast, it’s been described to me in a submission that her fellow LGBTQIA+ friends accept her and her identity. 

Roshanna Chatterji - Secret Six (2008)/The Movement (2013): An asexual and Bengali superhero! 

Poppy - Huge: Not a character I found a lot on, but she came out as asexual on the show.

Coded and/or Seen As A-Spec: 

Charlie Weasley - Harry Potter: while a minor character, JKR stated that he’s not gay, but not interested romantic relationships/”just more interested in dragons”, leading many to headcanon him as aro and/or ace.

Castiel - Supernatural: commonly headcanoned as asexual by members of fandom. 

Most of the Doctors - Doctor Who: most of the threads I’ve seen have described his versions as being coded as asexual. 

Daniela Velazquez - Sense8: admittedly my own personal headcanon, but Dani is shown to not be romantically attracted to any character on the show. She shows sexual attractions, but has no interest in romance and is in a functional dynamic with two gay men in the show, and they describe themselves as a trio and act, in my opinion, as an example of a QPR. 

Sheldon Cooper - The Big Bang Theory: many articles are written about it, here’s one speaking about his identity and another that explains one of the issues with the way the show has gone. 

Issues: The show is incredibly problematic, and there are different posts on why it’s sexist and written poorly.

Hello seo :) so i have an innocent question (bc i really don't know so it's not supposed to sound mean or bad intentioned). Why is it a bad thing to say "i wish i was asian"? I mean, i do like asian traits and i really do admire the work ethic of asian culture, and i believe that ppl who say they wish they were asian agree. I know asian ppl get a lot of shit, but ppl who say that are focusing on the positive things? So yeah i just wanted to know why this is wrong or offending (pls educate me)

the “asian traits” that often get emphasized are stereotypes, and when most people casually say that “i wish i was asian,” they refer to those stereotypes specifically. i assume you are talking about how “smart” asians are, how good they are at math, their work ethic, etc.

being asian does not mean that you are automatically good at math. being asian doesn’t automatically mean that you are motivated and productive all the time. being asian doesn’t guarantee you a job as a doctor or a programmer or an engineer or whatever job that we are usually portrayed to have. 

being asian, at least in the united states, is enduring these perpetuated “positive” stereotypes and receiving hate and judgement when you don’t meet them. it’s having people pull at the skin around their eyes and laughing about how “asian” it is. it’s having people tell you that you don’t look asian enough, that you don’t look like an asian celebrity, as if you have to meet some other standard of “asian.” it’s watching people fake horrific accents and pretend to be asian for a “joke” and having to laugh along for fear of offending or incurring judgement. it’s having random people stop you and ask you where you learned your english, where you really come from, how you should go back to your own country. it’s having to prove your asian-ness and having to face micro-aggressions from comments about the food you eat or the way you perform academically or the way you present yourself or the way you act.

it hurts to experience it, and it hurts to watch. my mom sat in the car in the parking lot of a walmart and cried after a white woman told her that her english was terrible and that she should have just stayed in her own country. i got a slightly lower score on a test than a white girl in my history class, and she said incredulously, “did i seriously get a higher score than you? man, i must be secretly asian or something!” 

do you really want to be asian? do you really want to experience this kind of thing? do you really want to be part of an ethnicity that experiences racism and have people say that asians don’t really experience discrimination. 

do you still want to be asian?

when a person says that they want to be asian, they don’t ever really mean it. they mean that they want to have the attributes of some asian stereotypes. they usually do not want to be asian. not like the way we experience it. by saying that and believing in that, you are actually contributing to the reinforcement of harmful asian stereotypes and the model minority myth.
