Nikto doesn't deserve nice things, he's a horrible little creature, but I'll give them to him anyway, just because I can! This fic is set in the same AU as @ghouljams 's Cowboy AU (tho obviously what's canon to that universe is up to them lmao, I'm just playing in the sandbox), and like they said, it's a bit of a "therapy AU".

We're letting this man work through some of his trauma in a way that doesn't involve killing random civillians. Let our boy sit on the porch sipping a nice ice tea with his big baby (Sputnik) curled up on his lap.

@coolest-capybara (link to post here) made the delightful decision to include our bestiary author in this image, noting the entry's apparent antipathy to noisy birds and gossipy men. @cheapsweets (link to post here) has also included someone being annoyed by the noisy birds (and alt text, thank you). I really enjoy the contrast between the Disney-princess aesthetic and the birds actually being quite annoying -- also the photobombing Wuggthea in the foreground. @pomrania (link to post here) took inspiration from the long-standing linguistics in-joke of the "wug". (Random personal fact: I have a shirt that I got free from the Linguistics department during my masters' degree that reads "Wugs Need Hugs".) I love everything about this -- the usage of IPA here is particularly clever I think. For anyone who doesn't know about the wug, it is explained in the linked post.

@wendievergreen (link to post here) has given us a tree full of colorful, dramatic, presumably quite noisy birds. I really like the coloring choice here, especially knowing the reason behind it as mentioned in the linked post. Also yeah these guys look like they could make a racket. That is a heck of a fancy border, and a reasonably nice-looking songbird. This bird is the jay, which is indeed a noisy one, so good job there.

I have never met a Eurasian jay, but given that its genus name is Garrulus, and the Wikipedia page I got this image from describes jays as "usually colorful and noisy," I have no doubt that it is as the bestiary author says.

Got some shots of these two being silly and adorable. Thankfully there were no photobombers, despite how populated Aviary was today. Postman really gives you a good chance to see how the new cosmetics would look. TEMPTED to get the boots, but I don't know what outfit I'd wear them with.

I DO want the Hermit cape. Very fluffy, and works with my current outfit. I also like the snowflakes on the back.

Got Shrimp.

Here is a scene where a laughing gull (Leucophaeus atricilla) swooped down and snatched a shrimp out of the surf. Of course, there is a sanderling (Calidris alba) photobombing the picture.

So, You Want To See A Legendary Pokemon

This blog is primarily about caring for, owning, or directly interacting with Legendary and Mythical Pokemon - which is absolutely not for everyone and can be infeasible or outright dangerous for many people. So, interacting seriously with Legendaries, even through volunteering, is not easy.

However, there are ways of seeing and interacting with Legendaries that are safe, feasible, accessible, and outright easy! And in this post and a couple others, I'm going to detail some - whether you're an enthusiast, a professor, a current or future owner, or just curious, this is a post anyone can follow up on.

To start with, I'll go over places where it's easy to spot and see wild Legendary Pokemon, with low or no risk (below the cut, because long post):

Legendary birds tend to migrate to follow their preferred weather, particularly Kantonian Articuno and Moltres. If you find yourself in the extreme north or south in fall, you'll probably see Articuno arriving after a long global migration, heading for wintry ice cliffs. Mountain-dwelling Articuno rarely move, but those that live in the poles often do. But around high mountains, there are in fact Articuno - but those places are extremely hostile to people, as are the residents, so I don't recommend it unless you're highly prepared.

In spring, if you happen to be near a volcano, you might just see a Moltres - they hunt across the globe, particularly in grasslands where they can spark fires to flush out prey easily and there are few trees for them to accidentally light on fire while trying to rest, but volcanic soil and crags are their preference for nesting. Extinct volcanoes and regular mountains are also nesting places - famously, there are Moltres nesting near the Kanto-Johto Pokemon League - but the more active it is short of active eruption, the more likely you are to find a Moltres, as they love lava. The Alolan volcanic chain, being particularly active, is also famous as a Moltres nesting site. Do NOT approach nesting or bathing Moltres...but they are pretty safe and fun to watch.

Another great place for Bird watchers is Shamouti and the surrounding islands, with a bonus of a native Lugia or two. The Birds are notoriously unfriendly and their home islands are barred to laypeople, but they're easily observed from the Shamouti beaches or dedicated bird-watching boat tours. The native Lugia are reclusive and rarely seen, but quite friendly as long as they don't perceive a threat from you. There's even plenty of video of tourists being photobombed by them, or getting to pet or interact with them. The same specimens have also been sighted in the Orange Islands, but less often.

Ecruteak City is one of the best places in the world to see Legendary Pokemon! A family of Ho-Oh nests there, a Lugia used to, and Suicune, Entei, and Raikou pass through very frequently. Because so many live there or pass through, Legendary Trainers are also quite likely to go there, and it's a bit of a gathering spot. Any person strolling through the city is more likely than not to see at least one. As with the Shamouti Lugia, they're quite friendly, but well-guarded - don't try anything funny, trust me. I'm not allowed to talk in too much detail about the security in place, but I do know it's there.

The coast of Sootopolis is another great place to spot Pokemon. Latias and Latios are fairly frequently sighted on Hoenn's coasts fishing, flying, and playing during the summer - and during the winter and spring, Kyogre pods sometimes move through, though those are sighted more often far out to sea or near the poles.

There are a couple islands off the coast of Sinnoh where Cresselia and Darkrai tend to gather, though the latter can be difficult to approach as they're skittish and may give you nightmares if they're spooked...which is harmless, I'll be honest. Part of being approved to work with Darkrai is being intentionally hit by their nightmare powers and while the nightmares are deeply unpleasant, it's not that awful and as soon as you wake up, it's over. Cresselia, similarly, have an unpleasant but harmless defense mechanism - they make you really, really dizzy. It only lasts a couple minutes, and it's not awful if you lay down, and thankfully they're not as easily spooked.

Hoopa and Diancie seem to be drawn to Anistar city, seemingly by the sundial. They're usually reserved, and won't approach you, but it's quite fun to walk through the city and see them hanging around like any member of the crowd.

On all four Alolan Islands, the Tapu are quite close with the native people, and relatively friendly to tourists as long as you remain respectful to them and to the local flora and fauna. If you're cautious and polite, even strangers can approach them when they're out and about.

There is a location in Kalos called the All-Earth forest, where both Xerneas and Yveltal like to gather. Guided tours are available, and they have a pretty good success rate of spotting them, given that they know where the tours go and generally like to say hi. Even if you don't see a Legendary, the forest is beautiful, as is the massive waterfall that tours tend to swing by.

There are a few Mewtwo that are quite public and open about their existence and openly interact with people. Several Pokemon with the capacity of communication can legally emancipate themselves - being legally regarded as human from then on and owning their own Pokeball - and a famous example is the original Mewtwo, who does book tours and owns a nature reserve. While he's a recluse, his writing is a complete delight. If you've got an interest in Pokemon sapience, human-Pokemon relations, and cloned Pokemon, I highly recommend his works! The rumor in my field is that he's even applying for a Legendary license - which I'll get into those soon - soon or as we speak.

scout - ok i think he's actually on fairly good terms with him (something rare for scout).  gives him life advice (either good or dubious, or both), messes with him sometimes, but its all in good fun. maybe he can teach him how to read sometimes, or read things aloud for him.

engie - goes to him when his camera or typewriter is broken. his camera's like really old i imagine it holds some sentimental value for him. good guy to unwind with after a long day. easily two of the most civil people on base

medic - medical malpractice and journalistic malpractice solidarity. he's fun and chatty and has a pretty interesting life that he would love to bring up so i can imagine rep would like that

demo - oh man now is probably a good time to bring up photobomb huh. anyways i gave rep the same taste as me. and he's absolutely a hopeless romantic. his confident put-together interviewer vibe is somewhat replaced with a shy schoolboy. what if you were a valiant knight and i was the scribe that told your tale. what then. anyways he likes being around him and thinks he's funny and interesting and also really hot and

13/08/2023-Shipton Bellinger and home

Photos taken in this set are of: 1. The White-point moth, another lovely moth to see at home this morning. 2. Common crimson-and-gold moth at Shipton Bellinger, an eyecatching species to see joining in a great surge in moth sightings for me especially this weekend. 3. Wall Brown, it was an honour to get to see these vibrant and energetic butterflies so well again after seeing our first of the year here two weeks ago. Today was one of our best ever days for seeing them with a fair few seen and top quality intimate views of them with wings open and closed they were widespread around here. It's funny to think I was worried as to if we'd see one this year after missing them at the coast where we often see them, this place is certainly a gem it's been a revelation for them, we first came here for Brown Hairstreak but Wall Brown is an important one here too. Unusually for Wall Brown I got great close up chances for photos today and it's a novelty seeing a species I mostly have at the coast inland, so even though this is one of the first butterflies I (retrospectively from a photo) ever identified early in butterfly days there feels something pleasingly fresh about seeing them here. 4. A Brown Hairstreak it was an honour to see again today, I spent some glee filled moments with this astonishing and angelic butterfly, what an honour to see them. I hadn't seen one of these until 2021 so there is a great freshness with these for me too and I feel very lucky to have had two visits here seeing these beautiful butterflies this year. 5, 7 and 8. Views at Shipton Bellinger. 6. One of a few bees I enjoyed caked in pollen on the bold woolly thistle flowers. 9. Some hawthorn berries on a tree. 10. Wild parsnip one I enjoyed a lot today, with interesting flies on.

At Shipton Bellinger it was also good to see Holly and Common Blue, Gatekeepers, Small Heath, Green-veined White, Speckled Wood, Peacock, ermine moth I believe Spindle ermine, ladybird, Common Red Soldier beetle, prominent mossy rose galls which I'm enjoying appearing of late, beautiful Roesel's bush cricket and my first ever Lesser Hornet hoverfly which is gorgeous. Magpie, Carrion Crow, Woodpigeon, Great Tit and Blue Tit were nice to see too, with Collared Dove which I took a picture of somewhat photobombed by a flying House Sparrow which was interesting, Goldfinch including young and seen well and intimately in the garden whilst I had my hair cut there Starlings seeing House Sparrows in the buddleia then also home bird highlights today. My first Morning-glory Plume moth of the year was also nice to see at home with four-leaved pink sorrel and other flowers enjoyed in the garden. Other highlights of the many flowers enjoyed at Shipton Bellinger were my first soapwort and goldenrod of the year, some more mugwort this week, viper's-bugloss, eyebright, red bartsia, rosebay willowherb, centaury, common toadflax, loads of wild basil again, knapweed, scabious, herb-Robert, hedgerow crane's-bill and melilot. Another brilliant wild weekend.

Galen loves animals. HUGE fan of every single fucking kind—except for rodents or cannibals, they can't stomach those. Other than that though, they'd flit eagerly from animal to animal, taking as many pictures as their storage would allow and then some. Very respectful of all the rules, very conscious of the comfort of the animals. Kallias would attempt to photobomb them, but unfortunately, you can only do so much when you're going against someone who's 7 fucking feet tall and can also raise their arms above their head to take pictures.

V doesn't really have any particular feelings about animals in general, but they do have a soft spot for the birds, and especially the birds of prey, so they'd mostly just park themself in front of the birds and refuse to leave... unless they have food in their hands in which case they're much more agreeable, and they'll let themself be dragged around. Would bite the head off of anyone being a dick, and would unconsciously be wary of any children looking like they're getting too close to danger.

Kallias likes animals but they don't really like watching them as much, so the zoo wouldn't be their first choice. They'd much prefer petting or feeding or riding one into battle. Really, they're just here to watch their friends have a good time, they're a bit of a people pleaser that way. They love when the people they care about are happy, their own feelings are secondary. They would genuinely love the gift shop though because there are so many silly things in there. Stupid things for themself, and genuine, thoughtful presents for their friends. They're the one strolling through the zoo looking like a walking advertisement with zero shame. Gift shop hat, gift shop shirt, gift shop sunglasses, toy snake around their shoulders, one puppet on each hand. They'd probably still get the numbers of some strangers even like this. V would purposefully walk as far away from Kallias as they can, not wanting to be associated with that.

Kallias would also be determined to hog the photo booths. Every single one they come across, regardless of how many photos they've already taken, Kallias would go HEY GUYS COME ON and then they'd rush over without waiting for an answer, grinning and waving the others over. V would try to put up a fight, but it wouldn't be long before Galen's pushing them over to get it over with.

Holiday Time!

November 2023

The holidays are officially here. It starts with Halloween and continues through New Year’s Eve. All the celebrating and candy and pies and turkey and dressing and potatoes and egg nog and punch and champagne! OH MY!

I have no advice on how to indulge responsibly during the holidays, because I don’t do a very good job of it myself. However, I can tell you how I try to counter punch the indulgence; I do a calisthenics & stretching workout several days a week and I do 5k’s. Five Star is offering nine race opportunities in November and December, including three options for their Thanksgiving Turkey Trot: Early Bird on Saturday 11/18 in Kennesaw, Get Basted on Sunday 11/19 in Cumming and Thanksgiving Day 11/23 in Johns Creek. I will be at the Get Basted Turkey Trot in Cumming. If you're there, please say Hi!

Spending time with loved ones, enjoying family traditions and indulging in our favorite foods is what makes the holidays special. Remember during this time to take care of yourself also. Keep up your fitness. Continue to walk, run, workout, dance, yoga, swim…whatever your favorite form of exercise is, make time for it.  You will feel better during the holidays and especially after.

After watching this video, I can now confidently remove people or large objects in Photoshop! This will definitely help when there's a photobomber or possibly any random birds in a photo. It's easy to fix any mistake that shows up while taking photos. It can also be useful when there is unwanted text or logos that may get copyright strikes in your photo, which will help with cost and time!

"baby," he starts slowly, not wanting to disturb the tranquil bubble you're in, plopping his head on your shoulder, grabbing your attention for a fleeting second, "hi there, whatchu looking at?"

"a mischievous emu, koo."

"would you mind if i took you and the emu to the living room? that okay?"

you look at his face, not able to decipher the faraway look on his face. "you're gonna play games?" he nods, tucking your flyways gently and neatly, "just a few rounds, then we'll head to bed, okay darling? and then we-" the stern sound of "emanuel, no, don't do it." cuts him off, captures his attention immediately too, doe eyes on the emerald-black flightless bird.

"can I take you then, darling?" he kisses your neck gently, slowly rubbing your shoulder peeking from your oversized cardigan. "as long as that stupid blue female doesn't come along, i'm good, koo," you say, eyebrows furrowed at the thought of jungkook's favourite overwatch character.

"just you and me, the whole night, baby."

you settle on the cloud-like mattress, your current favourite emu photobombing the camera, much to the dismay of the person filming their videos. you can see jungkook setting up his ps5 in your peripheral vision, suddenly getting closer.

he's on his knees in a second, determined look in his eyes. his hands are on your thighs, spreading them apart and thumbing the soft inner skin. his dark eyes are on your thin silver necklace adorning your neck, matching with bracelet on his tattooed wrist. your heart runs faster out of your chest, no longer interested in staying in you, the intimate action eliciting goosebumps on your sensitive skin.

"princess," he comes closer than he could ever come, large hands now taking yours in his, perfectly fitting, just how he likes it. "will you massage my head please? you know, the way I like it?" pleading and tired doe eyes are boring into yours, nose touching yours. you let out a long breath you were holding, silently turning him around and making him lean on you, a quiet yes for his post birthday wish.

the only sounds coming from the dark living room are jungkook's quick fingers working on his controller and occasional content moans from your deft fingers working on his head.

you thread your fingers through his silky hair, a sudden idea popping in your head. you peer down at your lover, who seems focused on the screen now. you pull out the hair tie from your loose ponytail, rolling it on your wrist.

taking a section of his hair, you slowly make a messy but tiny french braid, almost squealing at how pretty it looks. you quickly tie the braid, making sure it doesn't slip out anywhere.

"koo, quickly, look here!"

your phone's front camera is shoved infront of him, your thumb rapidly clicking the click button. his eyes furrow at your excitement, wondering what got you so excited.

"here, lemme see, baby," he insists, gently prying the phone from your hands. "oh, you look so pretty and nice, i wanna frame the picture so badly, koo," you say, face nuzzling into his neck.

jungkook smiles at your smiley eyes looking back at him from the pictures you just took, your fingers tracing the plait you put together. this is one of his favourite parts of his birthday, you wrapped around him with your warmth and your love.

Some highlights of my experience meeting the FE grid today!

Giovinazzi is such a sweetheart! Generally lovely guy. The same goes for his teammate Sergio, who I will def be following more closely from now on, he just seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself.

The Porsche guys are super chill, Andre looked v tired though while Pascal was just vibing.

Oliver Askew seemed so happy to be back in the US!! Very happy go lucky, great dude.

Antonio Felix Da Costa is a bit of a menace in the best way possible, we got to chatting about visiting NY as tourists and he immediately launched into his NY steak propaganda. Gonna go back and ask him which place he recommends though; I’m curious.

The Jaguar guys are honestly the funniest of the bunch, Sam Bird got to photobombing my picture with Mitch, while Mitch is just happy to be there. Really lovely guys. Sam also had to voice his disappointment in my godfather not taking a signed card (the video of that exchange is highly entertaining).

And finally the Merc EQ guys! Didn’t really get to talk much with Stoffel, but Nyck and I spoke about the Netherlands and how he barely ever gets a chance to go back home nowadays (kid clearly misses it).

Overall, such a great experience, the fact that FE organizes free autograph sessions is wonderful and gives us such a good chance to properly connect with the drivers!!
