ON THE TUMBLR WRITING COMMUNITY
How long have you had your writing Tumblr/Writeblr?
Since, like, 2020? Somewhere thereabouts.
What led you to create it?
Wanting to connect with writers/readers outside of Ao3 (it's just not set up for conversations outside of comment threads). And wanting to raise my characters up like baby Simba at the start of The Lion King for more of the Internet to behold.
Whatâs your favorite thing about the Writeblr community?
It's about the connection. đ¤ Plenty of writing communities, both on and offline, focus on critique or getting something published. Which can be great, if it's what you're after. But I think having others who genuinely cheer you on and let you ramble is just as important to helping writers through the often messy process of creating.
Whatâs one thing youâd like your mutuals to know about you?
I can be a bit shy or slow to interact, but once I'm invited in I'll haunt follow your blog or writing even if I'm not constantly saying anything.
Is there anything youâd like to see more of on your dash?
People talking about what they love, in published work and with writeblr stuff. A lot of the time I read or watch something because of the way others talk about it. That includes your own writing!
What tips/advice do you have for someone who made a Writeblr today?
Be patient, manage your expectations, and focus on having some fun. There's no algorithm here and even less clout. Writers can and do build audiences on Tumblr, but it's uniquely suited to allow us to experiment and be weird too.
WIP IT GOOD
Which Works-in-Progress (WIPs) or writing projects are you noodling about, lately?
I'm rewriting Apophenia, a novel about a supernatural researcher enduring the worst assignment of his life. A lot of my other projects are set in the same world.
How long have you been working on them?
Over five years now, I think! I'm slow.
Do you remember what inspired them/what got you started?
The Chocolate Box event on Ao3! The prompt was for a human captured by a vampire, but I wound up creating an entire world and series. Oops.
How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?
If I'm not thinking about these characters it's only because I'm dead.
When someone asks the dreaded, âWhat do you write about,â question, what do you usually say?
Gay vampire trash.
What do you want to say (if itâs different from what you do say)?
I write about characters who struggle towards community, compassion, and being better people despite a) their flaws, and b) the world burning down around them. I hope that it gives me the courage to continue doing the same.
LETâS ROTATE BLORBOS
Name any characters you created.
I'll direct you to some mood boards/intros even: Isaac Soto MĂĄrquez, Renato Faria Dimas, Dorian St-Ange, Kinslayer, Elfy Bosques-Rodriguez, Ankaris the Memory Salesman, Fior the Master Transcriber, Vess the Collector. And here's a comic sans presentation for Apophenia.
Whoâs the most unhinged?
Outwardly? Any of my necromancers. They come in a wide variety of styles, from Motley sewing patches of skin onto itself, to Acacius of Antioch who drapes his bejeweled and gilded bones in black veils. Each also has an, um, unique view of (un)life, the body, and ethics. Views which could come across as unhinged.
Who comes the most naturally for you to write?
At this point Isaac Soto, the protagonist of Apophenia. We do share a few similarities, but mostly I've just been writing him for years now.
Do you ever cringe at them?
At my characters or their antics? I wouldn't give them the satisfaction.
How much control do you feel you have over your characters?
They do frequently just spring ideas and actions on me, but I have the ultimate say in what makes it onto the page. Same with having the power/responsibility of changing something I realize isn't working, is insensitive, etc.
Do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters?
Always and forever, yes. đ Send me asks, comment in the tags or on Ao3, shriek in reblogs, replies, or a dm. It doesn't matter how--I love whenever someone is curious or interested enough to ask something about my fictional creations.
ON WRITEBLR ENGAGEMENT
What makes you want to follow another Writeblr account?
Sometimes it's based on vibes, sometimes I really like the sound of their stories. I appreciate a sense of whimsy and/or humor especially. And someone who likes spooky as well as fantasy stuff.
What makes you decide against following?
Two things: A) Their intro already has, like, 80+ notes (though the vibe/story will override this), and B) lots of posts hating on things/trends/people. I don't mean venting or sometimes ranting, which is everyone's right. I mean someone's whole brand is ridicule or just immediately seeing the bad in everything. Which is still their right. It's also mine to avoid it, and I think this is mutually beneficial. Thankfully, though, this experience has been very rare for me on writeblr.
Do you interact with non-mutuals often?
I try to. I'll reblog, read, comment, take an open tag, whatever when I have the energy. I mean, how else do writers get readers? It takes people who might not know you personally talking about your work a lot of the time.
Do your mutualsâ characters occupy space in your noodle?
I am absorbing the essence of your blorbos as we speak, making them an eternal part of me.

Hello! Not an ask, just wanted to say I adore your content; you're so skilled. I came across your art first, and the drama of even the smallest panel; I'd been eyeing JoDT & sequels for awhile because it was a WIP, but I caved and binged bks1-4 in about three days. I reread the "Eat your heart out Pureblood society" scene at least once a day, thank you for that, superb execution. I also really liked, in the first book, the interactions between Malfoy & Harry, and the very gradual "well, he's our friend now." The development of their friendship has done a great job of re-defining the characters and their relationships. The series feels like its own thing, and the fact that Ginny never even had the diary in book 2 only cemented that. I've really appreciated the deviation from Draco-the-tortured-hero/Draco-making-amends (which I also love to read). Horrors of the Heir was a great twist and really put the whole series in another tier, tbh. CoS was like, my least favorite of the series as a kid (alongside GoF, which has grown on me as I read fanfic) and your version of bk 2 easily established the micro-obsession of your series for me. Also, Crabbe & Goyle?? "They're actually really good friends"?? "Just to see if we feel anything"?? Adorable. Obsessed.
tldr; Your rewrite of the series is incredibly unique, and I admire how you've really taken the series and made it something completely fun and new and modern đđđ
Looking forward to the rest. Thank you for sharing!
AaaAaaAaaHhhHhhHh?!??!?!
This is such a lovely comment, I can't even -- I -- I'm --
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying the series so far! It really has been such a challenging, fun project!
I adored writing the "Eat Your Heart Out" scene. People tend to forget that Draco Malfoy is canonically *very* dramatic when he wants to be. Yes, he can be sulky and scheming, but he also shouts taunts across the courtyard, and puts on scenes to make older students laugh at Harryâs expense, even going so far as to dress up as a Dementor to make his "rival" lose in Quidditch.
The Horror of the Heir was such an experience for me as the author, because CoS is my favourite book from the series (weird, ik) and looking back, I sort of realise I couldâve squeezed in so much more. But last May, 45k was a HUGE amount of words for me! And now I'm churning out 100k like nobody's business đ
â¨ď¸Growthâ¨ď¸
And speaking of growth, the reason I had Draco take Tom Riddleâs diary was purely because of growth. It would've taken him far longer to change as a person if he hadn't taken Ginny's place. A pivotal character development moment, as he reflects on his upbringing etc...
Crabbe and Goyle generally get overlooked in the fandom, and it really bugs me. Vince dies canonically, yes, but I absolutely love it when fic writers incorporate Greg as an actual character in post-war fics, and acknowledge that Vince was Dracoâs friend.
It's always Blaise, Pansy, and Theo because they're intelligent and societies definition of "attractive." I mean, each to their own of course, but I could write an entire essay on the injustice I feel for Crabbe and Goyle!
And then, of course, the development of Dracoâs relationship with the Golden Trio, specifically Harry. Just -- Ugh-- these silly kids make me so unhinged!đ
It wouldn't be all sunshine and rainbows to begin with. Of course it wouldn't. It's a rocky start, with bumps along the way (and more big bumps to come), but I really do love the way I have progressed their relationship, and I'm not even gonna be humble about it! I really do love my own fic!!!
All this to say, thank you so much!!! I realise fix-its are a very popular type of fic to write, but I really do try to keep it as fresh and unique as possible, so the fact that I really am able to give my readers an experience means the world to međ

Some Thoughts (Mostly ZP, but still)âŚ
âIâve kinda hopped back onto the Zula Patrol train again since writing Turnabout, but I am planning on doing art and stories for other fandoms, too, of course ^^ I actually worked on chapter 4 of DCR and some more of Love Language for the first time in a month! Which is amazing progress since I had both writerâs block and worries that maybe a lot of folks arenât interested in the story. But even if that were true, itâs not going to stop me from posting stories, especially about my favorite childhood show ^^
âI went a bit in depth about an OC who gets some focus in both DCR and a few other entries, Firestorm, whoâs a military commander in one of the other Zulean branches (Iâll detail my own headcanons on the structure of the Zulean government in another headcanons post) and is one of the few people that Bula gets along with outside of his team because like him, she doesnât tolerate the BS/corruption that goes on in the government. And somehow, I got the idea that in an alternate universe, they end up as a couple. It has me cracking up because now, I have three potential love interests for Bula: Zeeter (with whom I can see happening even in canon), Bonnie (my old OC whom Iâve revamped and even have a solo story for), and now Firestorm (who might get teased in the future). Bulaâs literally building his own harem, LOL XD
âAnd then it got me thinking that if Bulaâs a typical âclueless harem protagonistâ (although unlike them, he makes himself useful and isnât admired due to some random skill he has out of nowhere), Ricochet would be the âsmug harem protagonist with a heart of goldâ in that he dated Denise, Diane, Melissa, and many other women before he settled down. Also, in a few AUs, he does have a better relationship with Serena, Deniseâs outlaw sister, and their relationship borders on UST. Silly thoughts are silly, LOL
âIâve also had an idea regarding the Third Sight ability. Originally, this ability has no offensive capability in any field whatsoever. But then I had a thought: what if there was a way, theoretically, that a user could hurt/even kill someone with their mind? It came about from a thought that DS! Elfilis (with whom Multo interacts with in my latest crossover) could totally do this easily, since heâs basically seen as a god (although heâs mortal) and heâs a lot more powerful/experienced with his psychic powers. Not to mention that between him and Multo, his cruel streak is not only bigger, but also more terrifying. It got me thinking that the Zuleans who have the Third Sight can do this same thing, namely in a moment of pure distress/fury, stemming from the desire to make the perpetrator feel every ounce of pain they felt at watching their loved one get hurt/killed. The name for this attack is called âFlashpointâ (or at least, itâs a working idea for a name). I had the idea that Multo accidentally stumbles across this ability after someone got the great (read: stupid) idea to hurt Zeeter or any of the others in front of him, and unable to physically defend them (due to being trapped), heâs filled with both horror at his loved ones being hurt, and pure rage at the perp, wanting nothing but for him to feel that same pain and worse. Cue that happening to the perp, with the guy literally losing his mind. With Multo being the kind of person he is, heâs shocked/horrified that he can do such a thing. One of the villains in my current WIP, Nova, takes an interest in Multo after finding out about him using this.
âAnd now, a part of me wants to do an alternative version of Multo thatâs evil. That would be pretty terrifying. O.O
âOh, Iâm also thinking of getting back to The Return of the Phantom Empire soon, thanks to working on Firestormâs profile. Just trying to work on the general plot of the side story, which focuses on Quick Draw McGraw, and possibly Quack-Up, namely in regards to the trauma he suffered before he joined the Galactic Guardians. This chapter isnât gonna be quite as long as the first three chapters, but that might change, lol XD

Kit, I love reading all your writings. From the quality of what you've written, the posts of WIPS you've shared, and the overall general musings you've given about what you're working on, it is beyond clear that you're passionate and care about what you write.
From Perty and Penelope to Roland and Bäckerin, it's all genuinely so good. I see you post something and get beyond excited to get the chance to read it; even if it's a quick one of reply to build off another post.
THAT'S NOT EVEN GET INTO HUSBANDRY SENTIENCE! You helped kick off genuinely one of the most enjoyable pieces of collective fanfiction that I have read in such a long time; it's to the point where I point my friends to your page like, "Look at this! Look at how good it is!" And they agree because it really is! I used to gate fandoms, I thought my time in them was done, but you've made me actually want to interact with one again with this collective you've been encouraging.
You've done great work, and that's all well and good to say, but it's harder to make oneself believe that. As a fellow artist and writer, I also understand where you're coming from. Sometimes, you look at something you've made (especially as it gets older) and wonder if it was ever any good in the first place. The answer is yes, it was and still is. The truth of the matter is that as you grow as a writer, your expectations for yourself do as well. You see every mistake, every way it could have been better. That's natural. But to us, your audience, we see a wonderful piece every time. We go back and reread things you've written no matter how old because we love what you wrote.
It's okay to be self-critical, but know you never need to doubt your abilities. You've written wonderful things, and I can personally say I am very excited to read whatever you write next.
I really hope you feel better soon, be kind to yourself.
- Tired College Anon
I never came back to tumblr to make what I've made. Sentience was never a thought I had... but it evolved so much further than what I thought it would be... I never saw myself doing anything more than just posting my silly D&D crossover idea and then Roland came into existence.
As for Husbandry Sentience... I really do try to understand the characters that I have been so graciously been allow to help make or to take to interact with my boys and girls. I never had made something like this before... honestly Sentience is just an AU of an AU... and then how much I feel honored to see people making AUs of my AU like the mer fics... making a collaborative fic beyond just my ask box people was not on my bingo card guys (gn)...
And then I was convinced, guided, somehow some way this beautiful community I had suddenly found myself in told me they wanted to see my take on Canon Characters far more fleshed out then old Ovary Thief Tyberos
I hate talking about myself because I dont feel like what I accomplish is much to write home about because its just this is my standard. What I give to you all is just my normal... my normal quick and dirty only occasionally beta read/reviewed before I post it... its me not trying me not worrying
I should feel better soon... everyone has been so unbelievably kind... everyone has been so nice and supportive
#momrad is crying#reply#answer#these sorts of posts help me be able to force myself to look at the positives#make me look at what I'm actually good at#be able to say âno this /is/ really goodâ

Hey Iâm new to tumblr and want to start posting some of my writing for people to read and comment one. Do you have any tips on WIPs, drafts and how to get attention on it? Very new to this space so I donât really know how things are done.
Hi! First of all, welcome to Tumblr (and Writeblr)!!
The first thing I recommend you do is make a Writeblr intro post and tag it #writeblr intro. Introduce yourself, what genres you like to write, who some of your inspirations are, what your WIP(s) is/are about. You can scroll through the tag to see what others have posted if you need ideas.
You can also make WIP specific intro posts and tag them #WIP intro. These tend to include images that match the vibe of your WIP and will also contain a blurb of what your story is about and a snippet or two of your writing.
For any writing you post - snippets, full chapters, WIP intros, OC intros, single sentences from your WIP - you can also make use of tags like #writing, #writeblr, #writers on tumblr, #fiction writing, #creative writing, #original writing, and genre specific tags like #fantasy writing. Put the five highest trending tags first to guarantee your post shows up in them.
Another great way to grow your blog (and help your writing find an audience) is to interact with other writeblrs. Follow the people who reblog your intro post, send them asks (and ask games like Story-Telling Saturday (STS) or Worldbuilding Wednesday (WBW)), reblog their WIPs, jump in on open tag games. My post for how tag games work can be found here. The more people get to know you the more people will send you asks back, tag you in games, and most importantly reblog your WIP posts so they can reach a wider audience.
You can also specify in your bio if you are ask/tag game friendly. You are more likely to get tags/asks if other writeblrs are certain they won't be annoying you haha.
In general, posts containing links to original writing hosted on other platforms (google docs, wordpress etc.) tend not to do as well as posts that contain the writing itself. I've also heard that posts with images and interesting titles tend to do better. Same with formatted paragraphs and dialogue as opposed to a single, huge text block.
Another thing you can do to help readers find your work is make a master-post for all your WIPs and pin it to the top of your blog. List each WIP, then add hyperlinks below (in reading order) to each post containing snippets/excepts from it. [To make a hyperlink: click on the three dots on the top of the post you want to link to, select "copy link", then go to the post you want to link from, select the text you want to link, then ctrl+v. This will be your end result.]
In settings, you can also feature up to 10 tags that you use for all content on your blog related to specific WIPs. This will help make it easier for readers to search for and find your content too.
My last bit of advice is to talk about writing on your blog (and use the tags). Make little jokes and memes, those "oof relatable" kind of posts, and make and reblog writing advice from time to time. It is the hard truth of WriteBlr that these posts get a lot more interaction than original writing does but they do serve to get your blog seen by more people because they are short, relatable, have wide appeal, and/or low-effort to read. Strangely, they seem to prompt people to check out your blog. I tend to get a small wave of new followers every time one of my posts reaches 100 notes or more. I can only speculate as to why this is.
I hope something in here helps and good luck!
If anyone else has any tips feel free to add on!

21, 22, 23 for Korra and/or Asamiđ
YIPPEE!!!
21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?
Korra: I looooove to explore her soft and goofy side! The way she interacts with the airbender kids, the way she treats Naga and Pabu, the way she empathizes with that new airbender who traps himself on top of a bridge at the beginning of book 3....all very heartwarming to me.
Korra has such a huge and amazing personality, and whenever I write her I try to do that justice. She's strong and stubborn, and also a massive sweetheart with a great sense of humor; I don't want to pretend she's only those first two things, because then I feel like I'm doing her character AND the reader a disservice. Well-rounded characters make a story feel more immersive, because there isn't a person alive who's genuinely one-dimensional.
Asami: I love imperfect Asami!!! I love Asami who can't cook for shit and works way too hard and drools in her sleep and smothers her emotions!!!! There's so much potential to explore the ways that her unaddressed grief and sheltered upbringing influence the way she operates, and if I ever finish that Angst WIP....I don't know where this thought was going honestly. Just that the flawless exterior is hiding a messy interior. I want her to reach a place where she's happy, but I don't want my writing to suggest that she hasn't struggled to get there.
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?
Korra: I tend to write the kind of fic I like to read, so my answer is similar to the one above! I love when people recognize that Korra is complex and has depth, and I really don't like when she's portrayed as this unfeeling, brainless wall of muscle. Korra isn't stupid, she's impulsiveâď¸There's a difference!
Asami: Similar to how I feel about Korra, I desperately need Asami to have more than one character trait in a fic. And I don't vibe with passive, shrinking violet Asami, like....this is the woman who tricked a guard into freeing her, repaired an airship after it crashed, and took out like 5 Red Lotus soldiers singlehandedly. She doesn't sit around waiting for things to happen to her, she gets shit done.
Also everything I said heređ
23. Favorite picture of this character?
Power couple of all time:

PLANT GROWERS - MEET THE WINNERS - TARI
Meet Tari, who got third place in our grow a plant event in november! Tari goes by she/her, and you can find her at @mxxnlightwriting. She wrote her first story when she was six, and has been writing with the goal of publishing since 2020. She writes romance and fantasy, along with dabbling in a few other genres.
Tell us about the WIP you'd like to talk about today.
The WIP is "A Spark of Magic" a YA Urban Fantasy novel (the first in a series!) Isaac has turned into a merfolk and that puts everything in his life in jeopardy. To try and fix this predicament he asks Alice for help, someone he believes to be a witch based on a rumour he heard. He's right that she's a witch, but what he doesn't know is that she can't summon her magic. What starts as an unlikely partnership turns into something more as every answer they seek seems out of reach and the secrets they encounter make it hard for them to trust anyone, including each other.
Describe your writing process. Do you like to plan everything or are you more spontaneous?
I am more spontaneous, but my process changes depending on my writing project. Sometimes, I have a scene, a couple of characters, a small playlist for vibes and I just go for it. In those cases, I discover my story along the way, and through subsequent drafts, I work to make it cohesive and the best it can be. Some require more planning, and in those cases, I tend to outline the vast majority of the story, but there's always something that even I, as the writer, don't know from the start.
What have you found to be the most challenging and/or rewarding about writing?
I think writing can be a lonely endeavor, especially when you don't have writer friends to help you keep motivated. It's also challenging because more often than not, only you know your story and its characters and world, and translating that from your mind to the page can be hard, especially when you're a perfectionist. On the flip side, there's nothing better than finishing a WIP. Writing "The End" on a draft is always incredible. No matter how many times I do it, it always feels like the first time. It's the culmination of so many hours of work, of meeting characters and watching their journey from start to finish, of writing their story. It that feeling of "You've done it", you know? And no one can ever take that achievement from you.
Below the read more is more of our conversation with Tari, along with a link to pre-order her novel now!
What inspires you to write?
People. Loneliness. I want to write stories to keep people company, to be there for them when they feel like no one is. Mostly, I write stories because it's the only way I know how to live. They've been an integral part of my life for so long that I would be incomplete without it.
Share some advice for other writers.
Just keep writing! Never look down at your own work, always look at it from an inquisitive lense. Look at how far you've come, at how much you have improved. Be fascinated by your previous work and know that it's the foundation for the writer you are today. You will always be improving, so celebrate that, even when it's hard. On that same note, never put down your work when sharing it with others. That will have them create expectations of your work before they get to enjoy it. Present it as a blank canvas and let people create their opinions of it, good or bad, but always remember that it is your story. Make it the best it can be for you, not for others.
What do consider your writing strength?
I'd say dialogue is my strength as well as character building! With dialogue is great to go over everyone's speech patterns and see what kind of words they would use and how they would chat with others (and notice how that changes depending on the character they're interacting with), which also influences character building.
What has been the nicest compliment you've received or what has been the toughest criticism you've received?
Whenever people say they were moved by my writing that always feels like the greatest compliment. As for the toughest criticism, as a perfectionist, I am my toughest critic.
What do you love the most about writing?
The entire process of falling in love with a new idea and making it the best it can possibly be. Nothing will ever make me as happy as when I have a random idea that consumes my entire existence and demands to be brought to life. Sometimes, it's not you who chooses the story. Sometimes, it's the story that chooses you.

FIC WRITER INTERVIEW
Tagged by @lamialamia
How many works do you have on AO3?
13
Whatâs your total AO3 word count?
423,658. Hoo boy.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Fundamentally People (Good Omens (TV) Kudos: 782Â
The Most Dangerous Thing is to Love (Sherlock (TV) Kudos: 283Â
S2.7: 49:07: A De-Montage (Bridgerton (TV) Kudos: 279Â
The Opposite of Undercurrent (Sherlock (TV) Kudos: 275Â
The Force of The Interaction (Sherlock (TV) Kudos: 238Â
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes and sometimes almost immediately after I get them and frequently I stop and reread them and read them aloud and tell everyone they were the best part of my day.
Whatâs the fic youâve written with the angstiest ending?
I write exclusively happy endings, because I have a pathlogical need for a happy ending, and every fic I've written happened because I wanted it to exist so I could read it. That said, maybe From This Day To The Ending of The World? Because...it's still a little complicated? (Not really though, it's still A Happy Ending TM)
Whatâs the fic youâve written with the happiest ending?
Uh. They're all really happy. But I think Fundamentally People was the sweetest.
Do you write crossovers?
Haven't yet!
Have you received hate on a fic?
No, never have (thank heavens)
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Ohhhhh yes. Looking at my fandoms, it's often the "oh no, what's happening I seem to be very attracted to you, what can that possibly mean? NOTHING AT ALL CLEARLY except we should do that more but never ever talk about and certainly not talk about FEELINGS." Sometimes it's that. Sometimes it's "ohholygodwecanbonebecauseyoulovemetoowhew." One time it was "We are in love and married but Victorian Repression so we don't quuiiiiiite know how to do sex?"
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Or they're in process, anyway...
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No! It would be very fun to try, though!
Whatâs your all-time favorite ship?
Johnlock Winnix Ineffable Husbands Brad/Nate Why would you ask someone to choose between their best beloveds?
Whatâs a WIP that you want to finish but donât think you ever will?
I'm pretty good about finishing, actually. I have some ideas kicking around that I might never get to, but I don't have anything I've genuinely started that I've left undone.
What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm very good at dialogue, and decent at pacing (current fic-in-progress notwithstanding grrr). I think I capture voice pretty well.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm not always great at setting a scene. I tend to rush through, and I feel like I'm capable of quite lovely writing, but I'm impatient and skip over it. I'm not always great about plotting - I long to write something heavily plotted and gripping, and then I'm like...crickets.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Whelp, as somebody with one (1) language skill, I'm not great at it. On occasion, I've needed to use another language--Russian and German have come up recently, I've called upon Good Old Google Translate which is obviously not ideal, but I checked in with a couple of friends when I wasn't sure it was correct. One time I intentionally used Bad French (it was for Aziraphale, who is supposed to be bad at French, and a French-speaking reader was very upset. I explained why I did it, and it was fine, but it was pretty funny).
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
My very first fanfic was for Twelfth Night because I am a Giant Nerd.
Whatâs a fandom/ship you havenât written for yet but want to?
I'm in the midst of a Gen Kill fic, so that's on its way. I want to write IronStrange! And Webgott!
Whatâs your favourite fic youâve written?
I'm very proud of From This Day To The Ending of The World. It was a new form of storytelling that I'd always wanted to try, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I'm also really pleased with The Most Dangerous Thing is to Love because it did exactly what I wanted it to do (i.e., it was the fic I wanted to read).
Wheeee tagging @jenkil @latibvles @basilone and anyone else who feels like it!

helloooo, i hope this isnt weird at all.
u really inspired me to start writing one of the wips ive had cooking in my head for 10,000 years with CBMTHY (i love your interpretations of all the characters across everything youve written, even dark! versions of everyone).
but how do you get the thoughts in your head onto the page :( its a little demotivating to not be as good of a writer as I'd like. so im terrified constantly that the story isn't coming off correctly. it certainly doesn't help that I've been stewing on this fanfic concept since i initially read acotar and tog, (crossover shit woo!) but the scenes are so vivid in my imagination that everything i can actually type out seems to fall flat or seems jumbled with the amount i try to include.
like, i posted a part last night after having it ready to go for months (there are several more im hiding đ) and have reread it 3 times and have to remind myself its fine and i dont need to delete it. but idk if im just being crazy tbh. Im also very much the same type of person who needs feedback in order to continue with creative projects. however the idea of even asking about it here is intimidating, especially after your stories helped push this lil amateur to write. But any help would be so greatly appreciated, especially becsuse theres no one ik personally who enjoys the series who would be willing to chat about it đ
again, i hope its not weird that im not sending anything in directly related to ur work and asking for advice đ
đ
but i hope you have a good rest of ur day/ night !!
haha, don't worry about it! I'm not sure I'm the best person to offer advice on this since I'm just kind of writing what I want to write though, but I'll try and help.
What you mentioned about struggling to get thoughts down on the page - I think an element of it is probably feeling comfortable enough to put them down there in the first place? That and also having the words to know what you mean? Read around, listen to music, chat with people if you can and see if you can find stuff you resonate with and then pay attention to what it is and try to figure out why. And it can take a while to find the right words, so let yourself breathe.
Suddenly jumping into a project you've been hyping up in your mind won't come out pristine immediately, it might be a case of writing paragraphs once, then writing them out again beneath that but trying to improve on what you've already written with a thesaurus in hand. It might also be a case of listening to music that simulates the emotions you want to write out and then trying to articulate them in the moment. Also writing without thinking can help. Or writing exactly how you're thinking, I guess? It doesn't always work though, so I'd sincerely suggest trying to write some smaller things to start with or have on the side to help practice.
In terms of trying to find people to give feedback, I think interacting with other writers can help. I'm not the best person for this since I like being away from my computer/phone as much as possible, but chatting to writers off anon, or if your writing blog isn't your main one then switching to your writing blog to leave a comment or reblog and leaving notes in the tags is a really great way to show other people you're interested in acotar/tog and writing. If the idea of coming off anon to interact with writers is (like I find it) absolutely terrifying, you can always keep anon on but sign off using a specific pseudonym or emoji that will be recognisable! That way you can get used to chatting without entirely compromising your anonymity and hopefully become comfortable. Asking other people what they do to help them get their thoughts down too can help since you'll be more likely to find someone similar.
I'd also recommend that if your story is long to try planning it out roughly as chapters or bulletpoints so you don't have to store it all in your brain. Have playlists on hand or boards on Pinterest to look over.
I think it's great that you've posted a chapter though - if you have a project you want to do well it's so easy to get caught up in wanting it to be a good as possible that you never actually get around to posting it, so I think what you've done is a great start. If you're unhappy with it after a few months or so you can always edit, nothing's written in stone.
And if you want to write in again please feel free to! I promise it doesn't have to be about my writing and I would think other writers would feel the same. If you want to turn off anon that's fine, and if you want to use an emoji as a sign off that's cool too, you can work your way up to chatting more openly about the stuff you enjoy :)
Also, if anyone else thinks they have some good tips for writing, getting thoughts down, keeping up interest/motivation with a project please add them!
And anon if you want to send in a link to the first part of your story feel free to, or if you want to chat with me directly I'd be interested to have a peek at what you're writing? I love acotar but tog still has a special place in my heart so I'd love to read more content around it too. I know how scary it can be sharing stuff you've worked hard on :)
#anons <3#I'm not sure how well I answered you but I hope there's at least something there that might help :)

If there are still no other asks I will give you another one.
3, 6, 17 and 25 please.
Yup, still just you! (And I don't mind. Interactions are interactions. XD) Ask thing.
3. What's your favorite candle scent?
I think I'm going to go with most vanilla varieties. There are some others I like, but I don't remember the exact scent name and I always end up defaulting to vanilla anyway. It's the cheapest and I really enjoy it too.
6. Say three nice things about yourself (three physical and three non-physical).
So cruel to make me do this one! XD But okay. I love my nails. Despite years of dishwashing and me not taking particular care of them, they look great and like a natural french manicure and I get complimented on it all the time. Also, I like that I look super young. People are always surprised that I'm often a whole whopping decade older than I look, two decades even to some. (Average guess is 24 because my overall demeanor says a lot or they'd guess lower, but I've gotten as low as 16 more than a couple of times as well. I'm 36.) This last one is technically physical, but not necessarily looks, but it counts! I don't look like I can play DDR on double pad like a pro, but I totally can, and do. (Not a physically fit person, so I def don't look like I can do very many active things, but my appearance is very misleading in many ways, apparently.)
None physical things. I love my memory. I never paid much attention to it before and just assumed everyone's memories were this good unless they had some debilitating illness like dementia or Alzheimer's, but apparently it's not normal to remember all the words to a song I sang in a play that one time in third grade, including the second verse which many people have said they always forget first in a song. Nor is it normal to remember enough about a past event to remember the context clues needed to help the other person remember the event to a similar capacity, which they need in order to access that memory. I don't remember everything, but I remember a great deal and that's apparently impressive. (Don't even get me started on how many stories I got locked inside my head that I remember most details to even if I haven't even started writing them yet and came up with them months or even years prior. You can check my WIP list as a reference. Thanks to my self imposed new content ban, it hasn't grown... much.)
I like how intricately my mind can put together a story before I'm even aware of all the details I've put into it. I usually refer to it as "my muse", but am slowly coming to terms with it really being me, just thinking on a much higher plane than I'm aware of. I'm still not comfortable with the idea that it's actually all me, so I'm going to continue to refer to it as "the muse". Some notable examples are the meaning of Deshi's name and how appropriate it is, as well as where Stag's name comes from despite there being no "stags" anywhere on the planet he's on. There are many smaller things and most times, I don't even notice them until I've read my own work three, ten, twenty times and even then, I'm still finding little breadcrumbs my muse has left me. I often wonder if that's just how writers are when it comes to their writing. It's hard to believe it's simply "all me" all of the time coming up with all this stuff, but it's still a thing I really like regardless.
I like how cute I can act. Because I grew up really lonely without much interaction, I've adopted a lot of the traits that anime characters will generally have, poses and tonal inflections and other notable things, and this constantly makes my hubby squeal in excitement and he just has to hug me because "you're just so dang cute!!" XD I don't really do it on purpose, it just feels like it really fits in the moment to me, but I like that it has this effect. ^^ I like coming off as young and cute and vibrant and intelligent. It is the me I've come to accept. (Still working on the love part. I love some parts though, at least, so progress?)
Pictures!
My beautiful nails that I hope never ever go away no matter how old I get (although they're bound to get more fragile eventually.)
An example of some of my cute, real life expressions. (Using references, too embarrassed to try and make them on command and post them on here. đ
)
Explanation of pics translated into my mannerisms in order: 1. talking about my OCs or Krystar or anything else I'm super passionate about, 2. me being in a generally good mood (I hold out my arms and will even walk that way just because happy), 3. annoyed and wishing the problem would just go away, 4. angry/annoyed/upset with someone or their actions or just expressing my overall strong disdain of something/someone, 5. not wanting to broach a subject but also knowing I need to. Also general anxiety.
17. Fairy lights or LED lights?
Darkness! Seriously. That or the standard room lights. If I want light, I want it to be clear and bright light, otherwise I don't want it at all, and don't you dare give me any sun! HIsssssssss, I am a vampire, give me darkness.... (A vampire by the real name of sunshine because irony.)
25. What's the best personal gift someone could give you?
Honestly? Comments and/or talking about my book/writings. It brings so much more joy than anything I can think of. Drawings of my characters is about the same, but if I had to choose, it's the prior. Knowing that someone took the time to read, understand, and then expound on my stuff without prompting is the kindest thing anyone could ever do for me. It makes it so the time I spent creating such things was really worth it. Heh, I guess that makes me an official fanfic writer now (if I wasn't already one long ago XD).

20 Questions for Fic Writers
got tagged by @mrpuppett thank you!!
1) How many works do you have on AO3? 44, although 1 is just a less-explicit version of an explicit one, and 4 of them are anthologies of my yearly short-fiction output, which range between 6 and 42 chapters
2) What's your total AO3 word count? 942,912 đ
3) What fandoms do you write for? I currently write for Bleach. In a previous life, I wrote for X-Men, Batman, and (sobbing) the Star Wars prequels.
4) Top 5 fics by kudos? 1) a little in love now and then (479) 2) don't tell me that we've grown (for having loved a little while) (357) 3) The Letter of the Law (346) 4) this could be permanent, you know (295) 5) Call Me Back When the War is Over (284)
It is extremely funny to me that my 2nd most popular fanfic is my IkkaYumi one.
5) Do you respond to comments? I try to reply to all of my comments! Even if it's just a super-short one, I try to say thank you or if someone leaves me some emoji, I'll send some back. I love to talk about fanfic and think about fanfic and analyze fanfic, and I have had some really great conversations in the ao3 comments sections, both for my fanfics and for other peoples.
6) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Dear Wormwood, I guess? I got several comments on it that were like "it'll get better, right?" and I was like "no, absolutely not." I'm not really an angst writer. I mean, nothing against it, I honestly just never come up with very good ideas.
7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? My fics tend to end on notes of progress or hope or small triumphs. this could be permanent, you know probably has the most traditional all-problems-solved, they kiss, roll-upbeat-end-credits happy ending.
8) Do you get hate on fics? Surprisingly, no!
9) Do you write smut? Sometimes! I find writing smut to be an almost entirely different activity from other kinds of writing. If I had to compare it to anything, it's a lot like writing fight scenes.
10) Do you write crossovers? No. I don't really care for them in general, unless the two universes vibrate in a very specific way where I think an interaction between the characters would be interesting. For example, I would think Natsume of Natsume's Book of Friends and Kurosaki Ichigo would have a lot to talk about (not that I ever got around to reading that one crossover series I found)
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? Nope.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated? I have had people offer and then never heard from again. Not Broken, Just Bent was made into a podfic, that is sort of like a translation.
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not in current times, I have in the past. When I was doing Bat-fic, I wrote in a shared universe with a couple of other authors and that was a lot of fun.
14) What's your all-time favorite ship? I have had others in the past, but I think RenRuki has strongly claimed the "all-time favorite" title at this point.
15) What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will? Never say never, I say! There are a lot of fics that I have put aside in favor of other projects, but in my heart, I believe I will get to them eventually! I do have a few WIPs that I have officially Given Up On, and I stick them in a particular folder on my GDrive, but that only happens when I decide I *don't* want to finish them.
16) What are your writing strengths? Banter, slice-of-life, depicting a rich variety of interpersonal relationships that don't fit neatly in one particular bucket.
17) What are your writing weaknesses? Run-on sentences and other related over-wordiness sins. Also, I'm slow as hell.
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language? I try to do so sparingly--I use Japanese for things like fighting techniques and also for specifically Japanese items or concepts (like foods or articles of clothing), but I generally do not try to sprinkle Japanese words into my characters' dialogue for mood or whatever. I rarely use honorifics because I don't feel like I grasp the subtleties of them enough to do a good job.
This is a thing I am super-duper nervous about (not just language but also culture generally). It almost stopped me from getting into writing anime fanfic in the first place. I do my best to be thoughtful and respectful. I try to do as much research as I can and I always want my writing to be rich with detail, but I also don't want to overreach into things that I really don't know enough about. I have learned a TON in the process, which has been very rewarding.
19) First fandom you wrote for? I was writing fanfic on paper when I was, like, 9, so it's honestly a little hard to remember. I think it might have been for Batman: The Animated Series? The first time I really participated in a fandom was X-Men (RIP to alt.comic.fan-fiction, you made me the person I am today)
20) Favorite fic you've ever written? It's probably Call Me Back When the War is Over, but I'm also very fond of Portions for Foxes.
TAGGING: @backwardshirt @zabiume @bleachbleachbleach but only if you want to! (and anyone else who wants to, of course, this was fun!)

This week's theme: Rec a 'gateway' fic - a fic that you read and it was so good it lead you to read multiple works by the same writer.
The rules: Tag a fic and explain why it was a gateway fic / what you liked about it. Then tag some people to see what everyone else is reading. Spread the love! I'll do the round up on Sunday again, so if you're still recc-ing on Saturday, no pressure. Please tag @welcometololaland or #fic rec friday so I can compile the masterlist!
*****
Very excited about this weekâs theme because the first fic of an author you read is a little bit like watching the pilot of a TV show that has several seasons, but youâve only just found it. So you fall in love, and before you know it, youâve blinked and spent 12 hours binging as many eps as you can. Itâs a great feeling, to chase the same elixir of magic in each story someone has written. There are several fics I could mention here, but I challenged myself to choose fics purely from memory because otherwise Iâd be here all day looking through my bookmarks. đ
911 Lone Star
No Right to Love You by @reyescarlos: If youâve been following me for a while or if weâve had conversations about our all-time favorite fics, then youâve read/heard my unhinged praise for No Right to Love You. It is not an understatement to say that this story was my whole personality for the entirety of April 2021 lol. This canon-divergent season 1 finale fic is truly epic and filled me with so many feels (so much yearning!). Kim posted it one chapter at a time over the course of a weekend, and when she posted the final chapter, I was standing in line at the grocery store when I saw the AO3 notification and proceeded to let out a loud yelp of excitement. There were looks.đ This story and Kimâs writing were worth the public embarrassment, I just love it so much. đđž It was my first Kim fic, and I immediately inhaled everything else she had written for LS. Â
Begins at Sunrise by @iboatedhere: Ah, Begins at Sunrise. Iâve read so many of Raeâs fics over the last two years, so itâs really fun to think back to the first fic I ever read. TK and Carlos have the âwho are we to each other?â talk on a spontaneous beach getaway because Carlos canât deny TK anything, and their conversations/interactions here are so Themâ˘ď¸. Also, itâs all just very romantic and thereâs a beautiful thread of vulnerability that runs through each scene, tugging at your heart. Given that it is a story set in season 1 circa ep 1x10, I appreciate it was written from Carlos POV and gave us some insight into his headspace after TK got shot. He was so in love already. There are a lot of single lines in this fic that pack an emotional wallop in the best way. As soon as I finished reading it, I hit the subscribe button so fast, and every AO3 email notification Iâve received sharing a Rae original has been a joy.Â
All Along There Was Some Invisible String Tying You to Me by @tkstrrand: Alternate first meeting AUs are always a lot of fun because I love the notion that these two people will always find one another no matter what. AJâs dual POV, ER Meet-Cute for TK and Carlos is a personal favorite. The story is lovely, with TK worried about Owen after accompanying him to the ER and Carlos (a stranger at first, also at the ER worried about his partner) stepping in to offer TK kindness and conversation and then eventually both realizing they donât want their time together to end (and as the reader, you realize you donât want your time with this version of them to end either). I loved this one a whole lot, and I am grateful it led to me finding more of AJâs work!Â
Red, White, and Royal Blue
Before This, After That by @orchidscript: Â
I have a rule about not reading WIPs because Iâm just not the most patient person when it comes to waiting for the next chapter (know thyself, etc). So I wait until the entire story is posted, and then I dive in. BUT every so often, a fic comes along and makes itself the exception to my rule. Before This, After That is the most recent exception. I adore this ficâitâs a great example of why I enjoy reading AUs. I love seeing how a writer captures the essence of the characters as individuals as well as the heart of their relationship and translates it into a brand-new world. This AU does it seamlessly with Alex and Henry. There are certain parts of this story that really feel inspired by Henryâs line from canon, âI thought if someone like that ever loved me, it would set me on fire.â Alex is hired to help Henry recover, but he realizes itâs more than just recovering from an injury, Henry needs to be brought back to life. [insert metaphor about Alexâs presence kindling Henryâs motivation to live]
I love how Alex shows care for Henry. There is a scene early on regarding Henryâs pain meds, and through a conversation, Alex swiftly resolves it. Itâs a short scene but a really lovely moment. Henry feels so seen and heard in a way that he clearly hasnât been since being hurt (or maybe ever). The whole exchange made me đđđĽš. The slow burn of this fic is fantastic, and I have also really enjoyed the interactions between Bea and Henry and (gasp) even Phillip. Lol. I am eagerly awaiting the next chapter, and as I wait, Iâll be reading more of orchidscriptâs catalog!Â
*****
Open tag to anyone who has a gateway fic that lives in their mind rent-free, please share (and tag me so I can add more fics to my marked for later lol).Â

what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
a fic called stay with me, which ended in MCD.
what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
i end most of my fics happily!
i think the happiest is probably wild things. everything works out for the better in that one
do you get hate on fics?
i dont! very grateful that everyones always so nice, makes me feel like the are you winning son meme
do you write smut?
i used to never write smut but something this year just had me writing so much of it and whilst it feels mostly awkward to write, people seem to like it!
craziest crossover?
i've never written any kind of crossover, and i don't like to read them either. i guess MOTA in the western genre is the closest i'll come.
have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i know of!
have you ever had a fic translated?
nope!
have you ever co-written a fic before?
also nope!
all time favorite ship?
ive been in fandoms since i was like 12, there's no way i can pick an all time favourite. it literally just depends on what im into at the time.
i really like inej/kaz from six of crows. i think scully/mulder is great. hannibal/will. ellie/dina. willem/jude.
off the top of my head i would say i'm most fond of the tenth doctor/rose. that one gets me.
what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
i'm really starting to doubt my ability to finish seven miles out of freedom town. im gonna try my best but the hyperfixation has moved on and it feels more like a chore than something im enjoying rn. im really sorry to anyone that disappoints, it disappoints me too, cos wild things was genuinely some of the most fun i've ever had writing fic and interacting with a community. i'll try and get it finished, it might just take me a while.
what are your writing strengths?
i think im pretty good at dialogue, making it sound like something a real person would say.
i think im fairly decent at dramatic writing, at making things sound flowery and poetic and theatric. thats my favourite way to write.
dont think im too bad at characterisation most of the time.
what are your writing weaknesses?
i suck at worldbuilding. i think its boring and i dont care for it, i just want to write about the characters. planning bores me. i just write things and go back and fix inconsistencies later.
wild things is the most effort i've ever put into a world. i was googling locations like a mofo to make things accurate.
thoughts on dialogue in another language?
i think its great! one of my favourite fics has a character that speaks french and he uses it to tease other characters who don't know what he's saying. its done so beautifully.
first fandom you wrote in?
if we're talking actual first fandom it was probably one direction or creepy pasta when i was like 13.
the first fandom i ever wrote for seriously was buzzfeed unsolved in 2018.
favorite fic you've written?
im very proud of washed clean, an angsty oneshot about gale/john. i really like the writing in that one.
i dont think i can pick a favourite, i have like three. hitchhikers and the axeman of new orleans were my starting points and really showed me the joy of writing fic that other people were going to read. i had a lot of fun writing those and i love me some dark themes.
wild things consumed my every thought for like, the 11 days i was writing it. ive never been so obsessed with one of my own fics before, it still blows me away how well it was recieved and i met some great people through it so im eternally grateful for that.
yeehaw, y'all.

starsoul (ya sci fi)
Kharys Masen is no one.
Just another teenager, one of billions of people living on the Belt. She dreams of a different life, of making it off her backwater planet and onto the Crux, into one of the great supercities, where she can do something with her life besides get married and inherit her father's machine shop.
But she's sixteen now, and old enough to know that dreams don't really come true. Not when you have a father who drinks more than he works, a mother practically dead to the world, and a brother who's abandoned you to join the the royal navy. No, Kharys Masen is no one, and it will stay that way.
Until a life support pod crashes into the field behind her house.
The Emprex is dead, and Nadiyya is on the run.
Framed for poisoning Emprex Jaennan IV, Nadiyya is the only one who know the truth of her death. Now hiding from the royal navy, she needs to find the true heir to the throne the only one who can oust the treacherous new Emprex, Traevn II. As the navy catches up to her, Nadiyya's only hope is to deploy her life support pod with her in it, and hope to land on habitable planet.
With the aid of Kharys, Nadiyya managed to get transport on a ship, but the navy is closing in, and with it, the threat of execution. When Kharys is implicated, her only choice is to go on the run with Nadiyya, find the rightful Emprex, and restore her to the throne.
