My GMMTV 2024 predictions
We're about 1.5 months away from the rumoured gmmtv 2024 press conference (I'm assuming it'll be in the later half of October), so I figured it was about time I threw in my two cents on the lineup
What I want (but don't think I'll get):
Joylada bl series
If you didn't already know, I'm a massive JDPP fan, and I absolutely love their friendship, so ofc this has to be the first thing I mention. Do I think I'll get it? No, they haven't been seen together filming anything that isn't promo yet so the chances aren't high. But am I still being delulu and hoping gmmtv gives them a crazy, super chaotic bl comedy series, with dunkphuwin as brothers and joongpond as best friends who fall for them? Yes. (Bonus, the CP's get mixed around for maximum chaos)
Power rangers gang bl series
Similar to above, I think the vibes of this would be absolutely hilarious. Unlikely gmmtv would do this tho, the last time they capitalised on these cp friend groups was that series with the holy trinity (singtokrist, offgun, taynew). But with some of their biggest OGs leaving (singto, bright, ect) they might be trying to form the new generation of cp friend groups, so maybe it's not entirely implausible?
Viewjune gl series
If you follow my blog, you would know I'm Viewjune's #1 fan, so ofc I want them to get a GL series of their own. However, I honestly don't think they'll get it. One big thing about becoming an established, branded cp is fanservice, but despite being paired together for 2 shows already, there really hasn't been any interactions outside scheduled promos and a few pics here and there. Yes, this might just mean that they don't wanna feed into fanservice, but a part of me also thinks that it might mean they are trying to phase this ship out before people get too attached, possibly to explore mixing the cps up, which I will get more into later.
Prigkhing in a gl
The way I wanna see this so bad; Prigkhing would totally kill it in a GL, she already has chemistry with every girl she's put on screen with. But I'm not sure if GMMTV would actually do this, though this might be the most probable from this list.
Forcebook-pondphuwin bl series
Full disclosure, I want this solely because I love forcepond's friendship. They have similar humour, and it would be hilarious to see them play best friends (or lovers if gmmtv is ballsy enough to mix up their BL cps 👀). Even if the series flops I'd be invested solely for all the chaotic BTS. Also, the visuals would be serving. We all saw that one post of them in the gym right? Exactly.
Leading roles for the underutilised gmmtv artists
I'm talking about people like Drake, Mike, Aun, Bimbeam, Ploypach, ect. They are all so talented, but it feels like gmmtv hardly uses them (not so much on Ploypach, heavy on Bimbeam). GIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO YOUR OTHER ARTISTS PLEASE.
AJ and JJ leads series
These two needed a whole separate point for themselves. They have been with gmmtv for a while now, and they've literally been in like, 70% of gmmtv's series, yet not a single leading role for them. They have so much potential, not just because they are identical twins (how many of these companies have that), but also because they're really talented. GMMTV, stop overlooking them and give them their well deserved leading roles please.
Mark Pakin and Pond Naravit as twins series
Speaking of twins, forget GeminiPhuwin for a sec, I want to see THESE TWO play twins. They look so goddamn alike (imo more than geminiphuwin do), and they are both so funny without even trying, they would be great in a comedy together. Or hell, even a lakorn, they both have experience in those. Give me Mark as the outgoing, confident older twin and Pond as the shy, more introverted younger twin, and hell while we're at it throw in Milk Pansa as their older sister who's so done with their shit but loves them very much, because she raised them after their parents died.
What I'm expecting:
Geminifourth bl series
This one has already been confirmed, so really not much to say about it. Hell, I'm pretty sure gmmtv will give them 2 series instead of just one. I'm hoping to finally see red flag Gemini (but watch him be the one to fall first AGAIN)
Pondphuwin bl series
This one also has been subtly, sort of confirmed by Phuwin, and I'm holding on to all that hope. I never really understood why people were acting as if Pond is dropping out of the industry simply bcs he said he was going back to school, like he still needs to earn money to support himself and his family y'all, pondphuwin aren't going anywhere (not with their current popularity). It's literally giving the same energy as everyone freaking out when he tweeted about wanting to further his career in dance one day, and when he supported Santa when he went to join Fantasy Boys, because they thought that meant he was leaving the bl industry to focus on dance. Like pls everyone, relax. More likely than not it just means he'll get less work, probably only one 2024 series with phuwin and your usual artist appearances.
Dunkphuwin bg series
This one I've seen rumours of already, and hell yeah I'm so down for this. It's probably the closest we'll ever get to a joylada series, which makes sense since Dunk is graduating while Joong and Pond are probably going to be spending more time on school (we don't talk about Phuwin, Mr "I got into Uni at 16 while also working and am currently very close to graduating with honours" is crazy smart and can basically do anything). I'm hoping to see them play brothers (GMMTV don't you dare mess up that golden opportunity) and maybe have them paired up with Jaoying for Phuwin and a new gmmtv actress for Dunk.
Winnysatang bl series
Of all GMMTV's established cps, they are one of the only ones who have yet to get their own series, and given their immense popularity (they already have fanmeets of their own), it's highly likely to be getting their own series. I'd be surprised if they didn't. I'm hoping for some dark angsty drama for them, enemies to lovers or maybe even a forbidden love type of thing?
At least 2 new gl series
With their growing popularity, GMMTV would be dumb not to hop into this bandwagon. They've already started with 23.5, and that show has a lot of anticipation already. I'm thinking that 2024 is going to be the year of GL experimentation for them, where they mix and match a bunch of their actresses to find some new cps, hell they might even put together a GL ensemble series to compete with Love Senior that's coming from StarHunter.
But also, I think gmmtv might use this new gl experimentation to also experiment with not having established cps at all. It's something I've seen a number of fans talk about, not having established cps, and seeing what they've done in MLC and OF, two extremely popular series, it might be something they find worth exploring. However, no way in hell would gmmtv risk it on their bl guys, they earn too much money from them. So, if they're gonna do it, they'll more likely do it with their actresses, since there is really only one fully established gl cp so far (milklove), and a million other gl ghostships. Hence why I said I didn't think viewjune would get their own series, I think gmmtv might want to try pairing View up with a bunch of different girls, bcs let's be real she has chemistry with everyone.
Some pairings I'm hoping to see are NamtanFilm, PiployPrim, PiployEarn, CiizeEarn, JaneCiize, Viewtu, PrigkhingPrim, ect. Honestly I'll take anyone there's endless amounts of options if gmmtv would just open their eyes and utilise their women for once.
A pairing of 2 gmmtv rookies
Every year, there's usually an introduction of new CPs, and gmmtv has recently signed in a bunch of new people, so they'll definitely be used in 2024. Most likely they'll be put in as a side couple, but I would like to see gmmtv be ballsy and give leading roles to completely new actors (hey, it worked for gemfourth didn't it).
Dewjane bg series
I'm currently catching up on Homeschool, and Dewjane have crazy good chemistry. They also have quite a fanbase (go look at Jane's comments section of her Barbie post), so I don't see why gmmtv wouldn't take advantage of it and give them
Homeschool season 2
I've see rumours about this, and fuck I would love to see this. A whole new generation of students under new leadership, I think it would be interesting. Cast a bunch of the new artists, and some of the older ones like Prim, Phuwin and Gemini. Throw in Mike as a teacher while you're at it.
Firstkhaotung bl series
Listen, they are absolutely one of GMMTV's biggest cashcows rn, up there with geminifourth. They are literally the first cp to get an international fanmeet OUTSIDE ASIA, which is a huge huge achievement. They are also both incredibly incredibly talented, and super versatile too. Gmmtv has to give them a new series, preferably a comedy or something cute and lighthearted this time, because yes I know they do angst so well and are very pretty criers, but give them a break from crying let's all be happy for once HAHAHAHA
Markford bl series
Yes yes, I know we are in NeoMark era rn, but who says we can't have both huh? Markford were so godamn popular, in a way I don't think gmmtv expected, and I feel like with the Markford fandom still well and alive they might try again with them. Just to add to the chaos why not have a new NeoMark series too, have both fandoms happy (or competing) the entire year.
Even better, have all three of them in a love triangle, and have both fandoms warring, only for the show to end with all three of them getting together in a little polyamorous relationship. And let P'Jojo direct this one he'll know what to do.
Other works I want to see:
SIZZY CONCERT/ALBUM
I truly cannot stress this enough. GMMTV, THEY HAVE BEEN A GIRL GROUP FOR YEARS NOW, AND ALL YOU'VE LET THEM GIVE US IS 3 SOLO SONGS AND 2 COLLABS? NOT EVEN AN ALBUM OR A CONCERT? I'm literally begging on my knees, please please utilise them. I will literally buy a ticket to Thailand to watch their concert if you're so concerned about earning a profit, I swear I will just give them a shot. Even just an EP will do.
Joongdunk variety show
A lot of gmmtv's popular CP's have gotten their own already (EMS, LBW, FBS, ect), so I think it's about time Joongdunk got one too. It'll be hilarious, and I will be expecting pondphuwin to show up as guests thank you very much.
Milklove variety show
With how late in 2023 23.5 is going to be released, I don't think milklove will get a new series in 2024, but being the only real established GL pairing right now, I don't think gmmtv will just forget about them, so instead I want them to get their own little variety show, maybe something to do with crafting or travel.
Safehouse season 5: girls edition
After the disaster that was the last safehouse season, a part of me never wants that show to be a thing again, but the possibility of seeing all the gmmtv girls under one roof is too tempting. Who knows, maybe this will be what saves the Safehouse series. I would wanna see all the Sizzy girls, Namtan, Film, Milk, Earn, Prigkhing, View, June and Jaoying.
Final thoughts
Like many others, I'm thinking that there will be 10 new QLs — 8 BLs and 2 GLs, but of the 8 BLs I would like 2 of them to have a GL side couple, so 4 GL couples in total. I'm also thinking of probably 5 or so BG series.
If you've made it this far, damn. Thank you for reading my very long post. And if you make your own, tag me or something I would love to read about everyone's theories.

Maybe some KamuKoma headcanons for a scenario in which they got to meet each other before the tragedy?
Komaeda is, unironically, the nicest man this man has met in his life.
Komaeda also happens to agree with him without hesitation or question. Kamukura has never had this before. Kamukura’s entire life up until this point has been through tutors and scientists attempting to influence his world view, and shooting down most of the thoughts and conclusions he comes to on his own. So the first person that just sort of validates him without question or hesitation? Instant like.
Like seriously in the early stages Kamukura is VERY easy to please. I see it like this.
Komaeda finds him. Manages to sit around long enough that Kamukura gets the chance to monologue at him. Get’s to a point where it’s like... "Do you think this is suitable treatment. For something they are so proud of? I am not yet perfect. Yet I am suppose to be. So their maltreatment is.. improper, yes? They are the ones who have failed, not I.”
Komaeda nods along placidly, if not a bit confused.
[Kamukura will now kill for Komaeda.]
Ironically Komaeda would have a little more mixed feelings on Kamukura in situations where they meet before despair.
Like.. Consider. You walk into the labroom. A boy is sitting there covered in bandages, a dazed out look to his eye. It takes him a while to reply, but he straight up tells you he is ultimate hope. Kamukura isn’t exactly shy about explaining the details of the Kamukura project, at least while it’s in the process of happening, and Komaeda is nothing if not curious.
And, is all this that really hope? Can artificial talent be considered TRUE hope at all?? You can’t create hope, only fuel it and tempt it.
But also, Kamukura has already latched himself onto him, and Komaeda doesn’t like... Get physical affection or validation all that often. So even if he’s uncertain about the whole thing, he’s still sort of like.
😕😳 Gay.
It takes a while for Komaeda to get caught visiting him.
For some reason things always just seem to go in his favor coming in. The doors are always unlocked, the camera systems go down. At one point he straight up just manages to guess the key code to get into the place by pressing random numbers.
At first it’s just sort of hanging out in the lab room. Kamukura doesn’t have a lot of energy at the start of it, and that’s something Komaeda can emphasize with. Especially post surgery. Some nights he comes in and Kamukura is knocked the fuck out the entire night.
Other nights Komaeda brings things to do, like books and shit. If he’s being entirely honest, the books sort of bore him. He knows how they’re going to end, could tell you the twists and turns in most of the stories. However, it’s still.. so much better then the lingering boredom that sits when he’s doing nothing but staring at a wall for 8 hours a night.
However later into it, Kamukura and Komaeda just kinda.. sneak out together sometimes. This is something Kamukura would get increasingly more ballsy with, as I imagine he already did not give much of a shit about actually staying in his room. But now he has a REASON to leave. And that reason is one whole twink.
Matsuda would be the first one to catch them, I think.
Matsuda strikes me as the type that ends up staying there late already. Sometimes because he actually has work to do, other times because no one else stays there for the same lengths, and he ends up knocked the fuck out instead of doing anything productive.
He walks in one night and Komaeda is just.. there. Kamukura passed the fuck out and curled up against him.
Komaeda smiles at him and waves.
Matsuda, who already deals with Komaeda’s bullshit on the regular, walks out of the room. He see’s nothing, he hears nothing. He does NOT exist, and does not know anything.
I think by the time they get caught by someone that gives enough of a shit, it’s too late.
They cannot take the twink away from Kamukura. He has been diagnosed gay, with a case of crippling homosexuality. It’s fatal.
Like they really, genuinely manage to get away with this for a startlingly long time. And by the time they’re figuring out how to solve this “issue” Kamukura is already being visited by Junko as well, and well.
We all know where that goes.
#Kamukoma#izuru kamukura#Nagito Komaeda#Matsuda Yasuke#Technically#I still think Kamukura would explore what Junko has to offer and kick start despair. Meeting Komaeda doesn’t take away the boredom of life n#nor his inherent curiosity of what’s more unpredictable.#Komaeda isn’t exactly happy about that.#But Kamukura would be a lil more possessive//protective of Komaeda a lot faster in this route#I'm still thinking of what the repercussions of that would be

Undertaker: The Last Ride
When I say I've been waiting years for this, I'm serious. Ever since Undertaker's loss at Wrestlemania 30, and shortly after that the news he would be on the Stone Cold Podcast, I've been eagerly anticipating seeing Mark Calaway speak as himself. Many fans have been hesitant to watch Calaway out of character, worried it would ruin the mystique of the Undertaker, but I've felt for years that the work put into these characters behind the scenes is just as fascinating as the fiction.
I watched episode one soon after it aired, and want to do a rewatch/reaction post before episode two drops tonight. Join me, if you wish.
If you've not seen the episode, a little content warning: there is blood, gore in a surgical setting (very, very graphic, but only there for a couple seconds at a time), needles, and implied injuries, including details of Mark's concussion at WM30.
CHAPTER 1: THE GREATEST FEAR
The series, all five episodes, takes place between 2017 and 2020. Chapter 1 covers Wrestlemania 33, and his match with Roman Reigns, which was intended to be his last.
This is the first time Mark Calaway's really opened up about his work, and himself in general. There's other instances of him being interviewed, even mixing fact and kayfabe, but never on a platform like this, certainly not with WWE.
Mark: You know they call me Santa Clause, now, right? Because I only come out once a year.
Jimmy Hart, being the sweetest: That's all you need to. You look great.
These backstage segments of Calaway with his coworkers are honestly some of the best parts of the episode. A transcript can only do so much justice.
Roman Reigns, upcoming opponent of the Undertaker, signs in at the lobby desk right next to Mark, being a smartass. Screw your camera guy, indeed.
Mark meditates on the struggles of working only once a year, and throughout the episode, chronicles the moments and injuries that make an already challenging schedule nearly impossible. Chasing the dragon that is the perfect match has lead him to a stalemate with himself and his character: if the Undertaker can go out in a match fitting of him at Wrestlemania, Mark Calaway will be happy.
Gah, baby 'Taker at his Survivor Series debut always gets me. No one could've called the run that boy was about to go on. I see other people call this portion of the episode the mythologizing of the character, building him up to be this big deal, and it's so funny to me because I wouldn't be watching if I didn't already think that of him. Like, y'all are just preaching to the choir, at this point. That, and so much that's been said here has been consistent with what Mark's peers have told about him in the past, it just feels like catching people up rather than building an image from scratch.
Say what you will about Vince McMahon (and there's a lot to be said), but there's something special about his comments on Mark Calaway. You rarely get to hear the guy talk candidly as it is, so when he does, you know it's important.
Calaway describing the weight, the prestige of Wrestlemania... and then the sneer he makes after that statement. I ain't a journalist, so I'll freely speculate: 'Mania's for the best of the best, and he just doesn't see himself as deserving to be there, not right now, at least.
Other wrestlers, from Orton to Edge to Batista, talk about what an honor, and mark of trust, it is to work with Undertaker, period. To work with him at Wrestlemania? You've arrived. The implication of what this would, or should, have meant for Roman is clear. It's a wonder if this image that his coworkers built up of him affected Mark's own expectations of himself. I mean, it's more or less spelled out in the episode, and it is the pro wrestling way to go out on your back, losing to someone who can use the rub, but, just throwing it out there, 'Taker had more pressure on him than most. That legacy, 'Mania, and the worry of managing to physically move during a match? It's overwhelming.
For those confused about why working once or twice a year would be so much more difficult than working hundreds of shows in that same time span, Steve Austin sums it up best: the road keeps you calloused and bruised. Ring rust from inactivity, due to being away or rehabbing an injury, gets you both mentally and physically. Knowing Mark's doing this process every year in his 50′s is insane.
During this, Steve plainly states that to go through that, and the many surgeries as Michelle McCool, Mark's wife, mentioned, it makes him a tough son of a bitch. It's an interesting note, considering we start this episode with Mark referring to that toughness as a thing of the past. His perception of himself, and what his peers see, is another fascinating aspect of the documentary.
Calaway talks about how nerve-racking the final workout before 'Mania is. The worry you'll hurt something while trying to train. Later, when other wrestlers talk about how calm, cool and collected 'Taker always seems... it's like they've built him up to be superhuman; Invulnerable to the same things and fears that plague all athletes. They talk about the physical decline, of course, that’s inevitable. But the mental side of things is where the biggest differences are.
Hoo boy, WrestleMania 30, the cause of my first major bout with depression. After that match between Undertaker and Brock Lesnar, not only was I crying and distressed, but there was then the news of Mark Calaway's hospitalization that was the numbing cherry on top. I remember registering how much more important the man's health was, but it was like I couldn't get any more upset.
After that, I'd read up on so many rumors, that the only new bit of information here in the documentary is about when Mark's being rushed to the ER; how Vince infamously left the arena before 'Mania was over just to make sure Mark was okay, and, in new info, Brock was in the car with him. I cannot stress enough how humanizing that is to hear, especially considering how closely guarded Brock is about his persona, and how the man and the character are often so blended together. Time heals all wounds, but I really appreciated hearing that.
So, the injury for the uninformed: during the match with Brock, 'Taker got concussed. No one knows when it happened, much less Mark, who can't remember anything from after 3:30 PM that afternoon. To say I, and many others, were convinced this was it, he'd retire, would be an understatement. Many people felt he should retire, I did too, at one point. But, I could also tell Calaway wouldn't want to leave on such a note, because frankly, the match sucked. That's what happens when one person gets knocked the fuck out, and the other guy's gotta improvise. The fact 'Taker's going on muscle memory while he's out is nothing short of a miracle.
With WM30 in the books, 'Taker was at a low point, his confidence shot and a lot riding on his match with Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 31 (or Play Button, if you prefer). Bray himself recalling how nervous he was, but how chill Undertaker appeared, in comparison.
Triple H's pep talk with 'Taker backstage is another gem, and I just love their friendship. I love the raw vulnerability this series is providing, both when it comes to 'Taker, and everyone else around him. I hope it's a constant through the rest of the docuseries.
WM31 was an ego boost, and leads into the superior Brock-Undertaker program in 2015. It's not highlighted as much, but it's fire, and I think allowed Calaway to redeem himself a bit, in his eyes. Not too much, since he didn't retire, but it made fans really start to come back 'round.
Now, I liked WM32 because I got to see it in person, and it was the first time I'd ever seen Undertaker live, so I'm a biased bitch. Anyone signing up to work Hell in a Cell is a ballsy move, and considering how old both 'Taker and Shane McMahon were going into that is no small feat. I liked it, it was a spectacle, and I was sports entertained. There is the implication, between showing clips of WM32 and 'Taker's appearance at the 2017 Royal Rumble, that Calaway wasn't satisfied with how the former turned out. It becomes fully fleshed out he's talking about entering the RR, and feeling intense regret, but that he was also disappointed with the former. Again, if he were happy with it, he'd have retired, but that's again the difference between what the fans see and what the wrestler sees. I, and I imagine roughly 100,000 others, had the time of our lives; Mark Calaway was, and still is, chasing perfection.
With RR 2017, Mark freely admits that he had no business being there. It sounds truly like his thought process in the moment, and not just the regret of how WM33 went down, and that the build for that match began when he and Roman went toe-to-toe at the Rumble.
Back to WM33 weekend. 'Taker's finished up the final workout, and is talking about his place on the upcoming card:
Mark: Regardless of my injuries, regardless of my age, regardless of everything that has happened, if I'm on the card, there's some young guy that's making a lot of the shows through the year, you know, that may not be on that card. So, it's my duty to make sure that it's worth putting me on the card. No one would probably say it to my face if I stunk it up, (but) I would know, and that's one of my biggest fears, and um, is becoming a parody of myself.
This is someone who's also been reading the rumor mill, the comments, general fan reaction. It's neat he's so receptive to fan interaction, and makes me wonder if he's actually been doing this for years, but it's also sad to watch him only see the negative sides. The Undertaker, as a character, wouldn't have worked for so long without innovation, so being open-minded is important. And, I'm all for Mark Calaway doing what he wants with his life, but, for him, will anything, any match, ever be good enough?
It's the night of the Hall of Fame 2017 and we see Mark and Michelle backstage greeting people. We get a shot of Mark saying hi to the likes of the late Bruno Sammartino, inductees Sean Waltman and Kurt Angle, and I just love how dolled up Michelle looks, whereas Mark's just in jeans, a dress shirt and a cap. I love their dynamic, so so much. Also, Mark and Kurt's friendship, that's adorable. One of the good things to happen when I found out about kayfabe was thinking how these characters who normally hate each other on screen, were really besties backstage. It's a thought that still tickles me to this day, and watching that in the episode on several occasions is a joy to behold.
Kurt's talking about 'Taker's role as locker room leader, and Mark mentions how it wasn't ever something he actively pursued, it just happened. Being locker room leader just seems to be yet another thing added to the legend of the Undertaker. Makes a bit more sense why Mark's peers put him on a pedestal.
Wrestlers are talking about how, very early on, Undertaker set the benchmark, the gold standard, of work every night. John Bradshaw Layfield goes on to say, "(Mark) was the yardstick. And if you did well, then pretty much you were in, if not, then you were out, because you knew if you didn't do well, it wasn't the Undertaker's fault." That explains why it hurts so much for 'Taker to not be at his best. I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, but it's fascinating to see all of these elements come together. It's also interesting to hear JBL build up 'Taker as the greatest of all time, and then plainly say he's never seen Mark in worse shape than he was heading into WM33.
On a lighter note, it's real funny to hear Mark and Roman talk about the latter's new twins (from 2017) considering he's got another set of twins on the way, now. Just in general, Roman going on about how much he loves talking to Mark about work, but mostly family and to hear the stories Mark's got to tell, you can see how much this match means to him. The prestige of working with 'Taker at any point, let alone 'Mania, he knows this is the highlight of his career. I can't help but respect Roman for that, and couldn't help but feel that way going into WM33. It's a stark difference from how I felt about Brock post-WM30, and I honestly thought I was prepared to watch Undertaker take his rumored loss at this show.
It's the night before 'Mania, and they're doing entrance rehearsals. The stage setup for this show was so cool, guys, it took inspiration from the theme parks that are littered throughout Orlando, and was a beauty to see live, especially when it got dark. And 'Taker's entrance, even in practice, is a spectacle.
Cuts to the day of WrestleMania 33. General nerves are felt, and the start of a very long day begins.
Mark: People say, "All you gotta do is go out there and chokeslam somebody, make your entrance, and everybody's gonna be happy." No. I'm not gonna be happy. Like when I say, and this isn't stupid man pride, or cliche stuff. I'm either gonna go out in a match that's befitting the Undertaker at WrestleMania, or I'm going out on my shield, one way or another.
And there we have it, the subject of this docuseries.
Roman talking about the weight of potentially being the last person to work with the Undertaker, it just makes you feel bad for him things didn't work out quite the way they planned. But, it's as JBL summed up before, no matter the outcome or if it's really 'Taker's last match, this is the biggest night of Roman Reigns' career. I know episode 2 will focus on the aftermath of WM33, and Mark's reaction, and what gets him to come back to wrestling, but I hope they get Roman's take as well. Is he as disappointed as 'Taker? Does he blame himself? Or, did he actually like what they did, flaws and all?
Content warning: they show the botched top rope dive from WM25, the one where 'Taker goes head-first into the mat. It's during the segment where Mark explains how he comes from the era of 'if you can move, you can make it to the ring'. He's okay, and we know he's okay, but it doesn't make it hurt any less to watch. They also mention the time he was severely sick and still worked a match with Big Show, and how he caught on fire in 2010 on the way to the Elimination Chamber match. Like, they actually show him engulfed in flames, then narrate how he went on to work the match. I love you, Undertaker, but JFC.
And now we're at the medical portion of the episode. Warning for needles.
Actual showtime for the match, and even now, 'Taker's entrance gives me chills. That feeling of happiness is indescribable, and is that precious something that never fails to make me smile.
So, everything else in the match is framed as great, brutal, well-done, and then that damn botched tombstone reversal comes up, and it's honestly the hardest thing to watch in the entire episode. I swear, it's the only bad thing in my eyes, and seems to be enough to make 'Taker dissatisfied. Again, I'm biased, with others saying his whole mood was off during the match, and that affected the overall performance, so what do I know? But, I will say this, ending 'Mania on such a grim note will always be a strange choice to me. I get it, if not the main event, where else would you put the Undertaker’s retirement match? Still, it completely changed my perception of the whole night, from riding high to finding myself depressed, once again. And maybe that’s exactly what all those wrestlers, namely Vince McMahon, were talking about. Instead of this being Shawn Michaels going out on a high note, it’s far more dour.
Mark: We'll see what tomorrow brings.
And with that look, and the fact he's had a match as recently as March/April of this year, he won't be gone for long.
Preview for the next episode contains intense surgical imagery. Just a heads up.
Post-episode thoughts:
I learned very little new information, but that's not the the hook of this series for me. Undertaker's the first character I ever truly loved, long before the likes of Supernatural came into my life. An interesting dynamic is potentially seeing both the Undertaker retire, and Supernatural come to a close, in the same year. I don't find myself mourning either, because I've already been through that. Now, I just want to indulge in behind-the-scenes tales, and watch two of the most influential stories in my life come to a close.
I greatly look forward to Chapter 2 of The Last Ride, and the rest of the episodes to come.

Dusted Mid-Year Exchange, Part 2: Positive No to Yves Tumour
Six Organs got a lot of mid-year love this time
Welcome back to part two of the Dusted Mid-Year Exchange, in which we tackle the second half of the alphabet. If you missed part one, with its lengthy description of what we’re doing here, you can read it here. Or just muddle through. Cheers.
Positive No — Kyanite (Little Black Cloud)
Kyanite by Positive No
Who recommended it? Tobias Carroll
Did we review it? No.
Tim Clarke’s take:
Positive No braid tight bursts of guitars, bass and drums into upbeat yet agitated shapes. There’s a touch of Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino in Tracy Wilson’s vocal delivery, or My Bloody Valentine’s Belinda Butcher, especially on expansive opener “Elevator Up.” At just under half an hour, the urgent economy of Kyanite’s songwriting makes all the more sense when you learn that it’s the band’s final album, released on Valentine’s Day this year. As their parting gesture, nothing is wasted, everything invested. As one of the song titles says, “Get In, Get Out. Don’t Linger. Go On.”
Raspberry Bulbs — Before the Age of Mirrors
Before The Age Of Mirrors by Raspberry Bulbs
Who picked it? Jonathan Shaw
Did we review it? Yes, Jonathan said, “Even in its heaviest metal moments, on ‘Reclaimed Church’ and excellent closing track ‘Given Over to History,’ the record’s punk vibe cuts and grins. It insists on a deadly aesthetic seriousness, and at the same time, it’s tugging the rug out from under its own feet.”
Jennifer Kelly’s take:
Raspberry Bulbs splices punk’s antic venom with metal’s storm and roar, shifting from one mode to the other inside individual tracks, sometimes measure to measure. Consider “Doggerel” which kicks off in a pogo-ing furor, rattling violently over rapid oi band rhythms, everything clipped and percussive, even the vocals, though hoarse and splintered. Midway through, a sirening guitar riff intercedes and the singing turns ominous and measured; all the sudden it’s metal. “Midnight Line” pulls the opposite trick, beginning in clanging, feedback-morphing guitar and larynx shredding howl, then introducing a punk rock palm-muted chug and anthemry. It’s a volatile mix, at times nearly playful, at others agonizingly heavy, at still others (the “Intervals” mostly) surprisingly lyrical. I lean towards the punk-er tracks—"They’re After Me” and “Doggerel”— metal fans may feel otherwise.
Stephen Riley — Friday the 13th (Steeplechase)
Who recommended it? Derek Taylor
Did we review it? Yes. Derek said, “Knuffke and Riley are a directly collaborative pairing now and their partnership politely demands many more dates like this one.”
Justin Cober-Lake's take:
Saxophonist Stephen Riley has put together a quartet with a singular idea of playing these classic tunes on Friday the 13th in relatively straightforward and spacious renditions. Their take on Eddie Vinson's “Four” has Riley and cornetist Kirk Knuffke trading long solos. The rhythm section does its job, but it's a horn players' record. The album comes alive most when Knuffke and Riley interact more immediately. On Oliver Nelson's “Hoe Down,” they reveal how great a partnership they have, initially matching each other on the main melody before spiraling off. “Round Midnight” could have been too obvious a choice, but the combo's personalized take on the standard works out. Everyone sounds at ease enough within the song that they take a few more risks, and the horn players supplement each other nicely with more harmonic considerations. The album ends with a trio of spirited numbers, and in each case Riley and Knuffke play off each other's solos with a sharpness that by now makes sense. Riley's listening to Monk and playing like Rollins (hence the title track) as he and his group find ways to make old bop sound new.
Gil Scott-Heron and Makaya McCraven—We’re New Again, A Reimagining (XL Recordings)
youtube
Who recommended it? Jenny Kelly.
Did we review it? Yes. Arthur Krumins notes, “McCraven lays down a lush musical backdrop that allows Scott-Heron’s words to have emotional impact.”
Jonathan Shaw’s take:
The word “reimagine” has a sexy resonance, and for that reason, it’s often too casually used. But in the case of We’re New Again, the word is warranted. Drummer and producer Makaya McCraven doesn’t just remix Gil Scott-Heron’s final record, I’m New Here (2010); McCraven shuffles the track list, adds some relevant recordings of Scott-Heron’s voice, and creates entirely new arrangements, moods, and musical accompaniment for the earlier album’s songs. It’s ballsy — I’m New Here is justly recognized as a masterpiece, and it’s marked by a stylistic austerity. On that record, Scott-Heron sang and spoke and recited his poetry over minimalist beats, a strummed guitar, or his own piano playing. McCraven attentively reimagines the tunes, working with polyphonic, post-Bop ensembles; busy hip-hop soundscapes; gospel and funk quotations. Remarkably, none of the richness of Scott-Heron’s vocals and none of the complexity of his poetry get obscured. More often, McCraven inventively intensifies the impact of Scott-Heron’s songs. And the reordering and recontextualizing of the tracks reveals a different narrative, grounded in the resilience and the suffering of Scott-Heron’s upbringing and too-short life. You listen and you feel it. It’s a terrific record.
Six Organs of Admittance — Companion Rises (Drag City)
Companion Rises by Six Organs of Admittance
Who recommended it? Jennifer Kelly
Did we review it? Yes. Jenny said it’s “straight-down-the-middle Six Organs, not as loud and abrasive as the first Hexadic disc, not as reticently wisp-y as the older folk-derived records.”
Patrick Masterson’s take:
Back when Dusted was still a dot-com, we talked about making a site-specific canon for our 10th anniversary, a kind of “Dusted 500” field guide. There was a shared spreadsheet and talk of a benefit show and a mixtape comp and so on that never amounted to anything for myriad reasons, but I can promise you Ben Chasny would’ve figured into it somehow — and nearly a decade on from that, my promise stands. The latest (30th? Let’s call it 30th) Six Organs of Admittance record is a beautiful slow burner that shows why, all astral spirits and slow-rolling starlight guitar plucks that is, as Jenny rightly notes, a Six Organs line drive. My belief after numerous spins since early February — mostly in the mornings, for which this music also seems suitable accompaniment — is that, like the rest of Chasny’s oeuvre, it will appeal to anyone who likes guitars or reads this. On the off chance you stumbled in here or haven’t heard this record yet: Welcome. It’s always been this way.
Patrick Masterson
Spanish Love Songs — Brave Faces Everyone (Pure Noise)
Brave Faces Everyone by Spanish Love Songs
Who recommended it? Ian Mathers
Did we review it? Yes. Ian said, “it’s more a record of solidarity and mutual support than it is anything more prescriptive.”
Patrick Masterson’s take:
L.A. quintet Spanish Love Songs occupy a very specific point on what I like to think of as the Bar Band Spectrum, where one end is a bottom-rung covers-only collective found in just about any weeknight dive pre-COVID playing for beer money out of boredom and modest ambition… and the other end is Bruce Springsteen. This band isn’t as ramshackle as, say, Ladyhawk, nor have they yet hit a glass ceiling à la the Constantines; they sound to me more like Beach Fossils or Single Mothers, where everything from their songwriting to their slightly glossy production suggests they’re as ready as they’ll ever be for arena life. And what a record to make the case, too: Brave Faces Everyone is the sound of Run for Covers Records growing up or early onset Gen Z realizing a glass of wine after everything is, in fact, a coping mechanism for adulthood in a profoundly uncaring world. It’s got a big, young heart to match its big, old sound. It says, loudly, that in the increasingly untethered reality of 2020, we are all losers forever — but there’s still a “best of it” to be made if you wanna and the bravest face is an optimistic one. I’ll rock with that (from the quarantined confines of home and the other side of another lousy livestream, of course).
Patrick Masterson
Squirrel Flower — I Was Born Swimming (Polyvinyl)
I Was Born Swimming by Squirrel Flower
Who picked it? Patrick Masterson
Did we review it? Nope.
Arthur Krumins’ take:
Making the most of a dour mood, Squirrel Flower squeezes disaffection from her vocal delivery. The instrumentation is reminiscent of a less noisy Built to Spill, or maybe Julie Doiron, and is effectively now a retro indie rock sound originally from the late 90s or early 2000s. The jamminess of some of the drawn out riffs feel both pretty and sad, and could be a good soundtrack to a rainy drive. The heaviness is well developed without being bogged down. The lyrics catch your attention with their plainspoken narration of conflict (“You slap me, I’ll slap you right back” she repeats in “Slapback”). A fitting album for looking your troubles head on while still being totally surrounded by them.
Waterless Hills — The Great Mountain (Cardinal Fuzz)
Waterless Hills - 'The Great Mountain' by Waterless Hills
Who picked it? Bill Meyer
Did we review it? No.
Arthur Krumins’ take:
A dissonant flow that steadily increases in intensity starts this record, which is a live recorded improvisation. The combination of aching, modal violin by dbh with slightly overdriven cascading electric guitar by C Joynes makes for a feel reminiscent of “Venus in Furs” by the Velvet Underground. The percussion by Andrew Cheetham, a drum kit plug some extras like a hung Chinese gong, creates texture and mood. Sometimes there’s just a steady counting of time in the background, at other moments waves of cymbals crash and make a cacophonous emphasis as the music rises and falls. The overall effect of the jams is hypnotic, like getting absorbed in a swirling light show. The players’ sensitivity to the musical interplay of their instruments, combined with a masterful looseness, makes it a trip worth taking.
Well Yells — We Mirror the Dead (Self-released)
youtube
Who recommended it? Ian Mathers.
Did we review it? Yes. Ian Mathers notes, “tipping towards the slightly industrial/EBM side of the genre, We Mirror the Dead gains a kind of gloomy propulsion without losing any of the atmosphere or intensity of [the band’s] prior work.”
Jonathan Shaw’s take:
The Gothic is not famous for stylistic restraint, and neither are the various contemporary subgenres that have inherited goth music’s romance of dark interiors, painfully fraught feeling and highly stylized self-fashioning. A few recent acts have cut against the grain of those established maximalist textures: see the grim industrial rancor of Street Sects, and the more experimental, sample-based austerities of Wreck and Reference. Well Yells’ music feels similarly stripped down to a pulsing electronic essence. But the record is more interested in the strobing spaces of Clubland than in decrepit factory ruins, and the darkwave gloss of We Mirror the Dead presents a more conventional relation to goth’s sensations. At its best—as on album opener “Kill the King”—the music of Patrick Holbrook, sole member of Well Yells, snaps and glimmers with compelling dread and arch sophistication. Holbrook’s breathy tenor is a useful counterpoint; his vocals are vaguely reminiscent of the best of those other habitués of Clubland, the British New Romantics (remember Bronski Beat?). It’s good stuff, somehow simultaneously polished and dirty.
Lucinda Williams—Good Souls Better Angels (Thirty Tigers/Highway 20 Records)
youtube
Who recommended it? Justin Cober-Lake
Did we review it? No.
Bill Meyer’s take: I haven’t listened much to Lucinda Williams; the one record I have by her, Sweet Old World, is 28 years old. The first thing that hit me when I listened to Good Souls Better Angels is what’s changed. Williams’ voice is much rougher, and she’s adjusted the music correspondingly, adding Hendrixian guitar flourishes to “Bone of Contention” and coarsening the domestic violence scenario “Wakin’ Up” with bad-trip electronics. The next is how pissed she sounds. Violent boyfriends are bad enough, but having a charmless sociopath for president is even worse. Fortunately, bile hasn’t overwhelmed her writing chops. Big-sounding roots rock isn’t really my thing these days, but if I feel the need to change that, Good Souls Better Angels is a good place to start.
Wire — Mind Hive (Pink Flag)
youtube
Who picked it? Andrew Forell
Did we review it? Yes, Andrew said, “Mind Hive is concise yet full of restless intelligence, musical ideas and willingness to push boundaries.”
Derek Taylor’s take:
I tapped Wire late and left early. That truncated exposure lends a narrow vocabulary in describing their music contextually, pre- and post-reunions. This latest missive sounds alternately like what I remember and at least several zip codes removed with a heavy lean into synths. “Be Like Them” and “Primed and Ready” fall in the former category, while “Off the Beach” trades gangly ennui and menace for what almost resembles instrumental optimism until the lyrics stack dutifully into another ode to the disaffected and disconnected. “Oklahoma” feels inscrutably weird. “Hung” drops as the album’s extended, incremental, post-industrial dirge. There’s additional insulation sheathing this Wire, an inevitable adjunct of ascendancy to elder status, but the current foursome is still dependably conducting current.
Yves Tumour — Heaven to a Tortured Mind (Warp)
youtube
Who recommend it? Patrick Masterson
Did we review it? No.
Ian Mathers’ take:
Listen to music for long enough and you might realize that most of the time when you hope any artist goes in any particular direction with their work, you’re bound to be disappointed. But every so often, maybe after a promising album that you just didn’t fully click with, an artist does exactly what you were hoping for and fully manifests all the potential promise you thought you glimpsed. Yves Tumor’s 2018 album Safe in the Hands of Love was admirable in many ways, but it was really only on crucial single “Noid” that all the combustible elements were really brought together into something that properly bangs. Well, Heaven to a Tortured Mind might not have as many showcases for the ambient/noise chops that Tumor definitely has, but it does consistently bang for 36 minutes of should-be alternate universe pop hits, from the brassy “Gospel for a New Century” to the floaty duet “Kerosene!” For anyone who loved “Noid” and then found more to respect than the viscerally love on Tumor’s last record, this is the record you were waiting for, and it is magnificent and ferocious.

Kadara Marketplace Shenanigans
Vetra Nyx/Fem Ryder (Darrin Ryder). Safe for work. Word count: 1,485. Catch it on Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/20998385
Darrin Ryder is still waiting to see any progress on Kadara with Reyes Vidal and the Collective in charge. While people watching, she sees an asari getting ganged up on by some hustlers and waits to see what happens... and is shortly joined by Vetra.
Darrin carefully watches a few hustlers surround a normie-looking asari (dressed in casual wear, even) while she looks on from the top of a nearby building, looking down over the marketplace.
Yeah, Kadara still hasn't changed much. She's still waiting to see more effects from putting Reyes in charge. Still waiting to see if she'll regret that decision. Always waiting for the results.
"Darrin, based on your usual moral decisions, it's odd to see you not helping the asari," SAM comments in her head, scattering her thoughts. She squishes her plum-painted lips together in response.
"Because I want to see if any guards come to help or anyone else," she replies mentally. "I have a very thin biotic barrier around them already; if the guys shoot or attack, they'll bounce off long enough for me to get down there."
"I see."
"Do you?" She can't help but poke at the logic, but then again, she'd never given much thought on how SAM looks out onto the world. And, to be honest, she wasn't in the mood to ask just now.
Mental note to ask later.
"Kadara still seems the same," Vetra says quietly from behind her, her movements quiet over the brick-like roof. Darrin turns to look at her from the corner of her eye, a warm smile pulling over her lips.
"Yeah, seems so. I'll give it more time before going after Reyes over it, though. But just a little." Vetra snorts as she crouches down beside the human Pathfinder, looking like an awkwardly haunched over bird, and the weird hissing-sneezy sound of her snort really doesn't help the image. It takes all of Darrin's will to not even giggle at the image.
"I hope it turns out, but I have my doubts. He lied to get the position of 'all-mighty overlord', and it's not really impossible that he lied about what he plans to do with it," the turian muses grimly, voicing Darrin's own worries aloud.
"I know," she nearly whispers back. Her attention is drawn back to the group from before by an outraged yell. She can see the asari's hands preparing to issue biotics, the hustlers' reaching for their guns- "Feel like getting frisky with the locals?" Darrin yells as she jumps from the rooftop, spiraling very quickly towards the group. She grins at Vetra's incredulous "what?!" and that grin only widens as SAM alerts her to Vetra jumping off, too. As she nears the ground, Darrin uses a mix of her jump jets and biotics to land neatly beside the asari, her pistol drawn and pointed in the face of one hustler that she now sees is a human under his hood.
Vetra lands a little less elegantly on the asari's other side, and it sounds like her own weapon is drawn based on the click of her loading her own weapon. "Did you have to come in so dramatically?" she asks with mock irritation, before answering herself, "oohh, wait, of course you did."
"Aww, c'mon, Vetra," she teases back, smirking as the two hustlers she can see's faces quickly begin to realize they've really bitten off more than they can chew, "a Pathfinder has to be ballsy if she expects the rest of her crew to be."
"P-Pathfinder?" the guy in front of her stutters out, his brown eyes widening further.
"Oh, yeah, boys. Pathfinder Ryder at your service." She rolls one shoulder before continuing, "so am I going to have to throw you all in a couple of jail cells, body bags, or maybe to the wilds, or do y'think you can use your brains long enough to fuck off somewhere's else?"
"Preferably before we have to waste our precious ammo on your sorry asses," Vetra chimes in, a laugh evident in her voice.
"N-no, we'll just, uh…" the guys in front and to the side of Darrin share a look before scrambling away, their large hoodies flapping unflatteringly around them. Darrin turns to see the third guy doing the same, and with a slight knee-jerk reaction, she uses her biotics to pull his pants to his knees, causing him to go tumbling forward into a heap. The marketplace erupts into roars of laughter, as does she and the asari behind her.
Vetra, however, lets out a pained noise between a laugh and a disparing sigh. "Was that necessary?"
"Hey, embarrassing him that much should keep him from doing it again," Darrin says gleefully as she reverts her pistol into its safety mode, then tucks it away against her hip. Vetra gives her a droll look before doing the same, then crosses her arms as her yellow-green eyes slide over to the asari. Darrin follows the gaze. "So, tell me, who exactly are you and why did they want you so bad?"
"Oh! I'm Tiarie B'Varsa. I… well, I wanted to see Kadara myself after all the stories I heard on the Nexus-" no surprise there- "and when I got here, I visited the bar and somehow got drawn into a big card game and ended up winning… well, enough to buy an upgraded apartment and all missing furnishings," she finishes in a lower voice with a nervous laugh. Vetra's brow plates rise as she gives a low whistle, and Darrin mirrors her.
"Yeah, you're lucky they didn't gut you before you even left the bar," Vetra assesses, then clicks her tongue thoughtfully. "Let's get you back on your shuttle and check out the driver… just in case."
"Oh, yes, please! Thank you!" The asari then leads the two towards the landing dock, where a slightly dented up Initiative shuttle waits, Cora hovering a little ways away. When she spots the group, she quickly comes forward bu careful to not draw too much attention.
"You made it safely back then, I take it, Dr. B'Varsa?" She asks anxiously. Darrin's eyebrows nearly hit her hairline as Tiarie cheerfully answers, "Oh, yes, it does seem so. Mostly thanks to these two."
"Doctor B'Varsa?" Vetra repeats. Cora nods.
"Yes, she's one of the botanists on the Nexus, here to… well, see Kadara. Did anything happen?"
"Nah, nothing too interesting," Darrin answers immediately as Vetra seems to swell as more information pours forth about the asari. When she shoots Darrin a disbelieving look, she continues, "Just a little scuffle in the marketplace. Where Vetra and I are needed, incidently," she gives Cora an overly complacent smile while grabbing Vetra's arm and dragging her towards the place once more. Vetra stumbles after her while Cora watches them out of sight.
When they reach a more secluded corner, Vetra drags Darrin over to it. "Why didn't you tell Cora what happened?"
"Because it was nothing to worry about, and if Cora knew she'd likely tell Tann or the director of hydroponics and Tairie wouldn't be allowed back off of the Nexus," she answers matter-of-factly. Vetra's nostril slits flare as much as their bony protection allows.
"Which would be safe for her! We have to keep the scientists and doctors safe, Darrin!"
"But we can't also lock them away and make it a prison for them," Darrin refutes, frowning firmly. "You can't stay locked up all the time. You'll go mad, or worse."
"Ugh, you're impossible," she huffs, leaning back on a concrete post, shaking her head.
"Oh, the most impossible," Darrin agrees with a grin. Vetra narrows her eyes.
"And the most hard-headed-"
"Oh, definitely that-"
"-and infuriating-"
"-for most people who know me, alright-"
"-and sometimes I'd like to punch you for the decisions you make."
"Hey, same," Darrin shrugs, her grin now absolutely dumb and toothy. Their banter dissolves a lot of Vetra's frustration, leaving her to try to hide her amusement, but she forgets that Darrin knows her tells too well now. She saunters towards the turian, weaving a bit, before wrapping her arms entirely around her waist and chest. "And you love every bit of my being a difficult ass."
"Yeah, I do, and you're lucky I do," she says with a long-suffering sigh, dragging a hand through her partner's long, strawberry blonde hair. "Anyone else you plan to go and save or harrass today?"
"Eeeh, only… you," Darrin says with false thoughtfulness, biting her lower lip after her last word, then laughing as Vetra snorts again.
"Forever our saving grace and my tormenter."
"Hey, you seem to like my tormenting, 'cause you keep coming back for more."
"Mmm, I guess so." She shakes her head as Darrin settles her chin on the edge of her outward curving chest armor, mind already swarming to think what Darrin is thinking up with her new, mischievous look.
"We cooould go practice our shots on some poor, unexpecting left over kett," she suggests.
"If we can find some, absolutely," Vetra agrees, stretching her claws. "I got some new weapon mods I found that I need to test out, anyway."
"Then let's get going.~"

Loves Me / Loves Me Not
New Years approaching, time for one last 2019 share, we hope you’ll enjoy <3
We also started adding the tracks from our LMLMN posts in a spotify playlist for further enjoyment, you can find it here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0cgvx8cRMUii4ZSNkdennc?si=iHduei6CQI6Fgtt6qfEKGQ

Safari - Are’s Daughter + Spoken
https://soundcloud.com/bandsafari/ares-daughter
Safari were spending so much time in the bush that they forgot to let us know they released a bunch of lovely tunes 2 months back - much luck however, we’re gonna cover 2 of the tunes for your pleasure this time!
The first one ‘Are’s Daughter’ is personally one of my favourite tunes in some time as it connects a nice big array of solid influences and manages to somehow pack them all into a solid 4min package. It’s lofi, it’s certain diy, there’s some dorky The Frogs vibes that merges into the lofi slackery early Built to Spill which then goes full Pixies aka ‘Break My Body’ from Surfer Rosa - I’m fucking loving the screams around the 2 min part. It’s just a beautiful chill, noise and quite pleasant 4 min of your time, I’d recommend going twice.
https://soundcloud.com/bandsafari/spoken
‘Spoken’ is the second track we got sent off of the ‘Draw’ release from earlier this year. It’s a little less ‘full on’ than Are’s Daughter, but still quite a pleasant company. The vocal melodies show one of the major strengths of ‘Safari’, it’s kept really simple, often repetitive but the melodies keep it all floating extremely well - and then I have to say - that their singer has the same tone as Black Francis is just an amazing plus - for someone who still loves to go back an listen to Surfer Rosa, Trompe Le Monde, Doolittle and other old Pixies albums, this gives me hope that there’s new blood coming! I look forward to what the time will bring for Safari if they end up in the right hands.
Yaehsun - Show Me How You Love
https://soundcloud.com/user-282851032/show-me-how-to-love
Like a soothing bedroom version of early Tame Impala, Yaehsun gets away with copying all the nice things of TI without coming across as a silly ripoff - many have gone that way and never delivered - It’s not the case here. It’s damn smooth and I would be very inclined to put this tune on a sunday chill playlist - something I would most likely never do with a Tame Impala track. I look very much forward to seeing what else will come from this outfit!
Mouthbreather - Modern Girl
youtube
This is about as “folky” as it gets for us, but it’s not really folk - it’s got way too much of something else that I’m not quite sure how to pin down. Somehow I feel like I’m hearing this mix of Oasis and the National, but I’m not sure - I am sure though that that’s only a good thing. Lyrics tells a pretty straight ahead and nice story, the video has some really nice cartoon-parts that was a pleasure to spend time with. It’s a pretty simple song but I have a feeling that a lot of work and love went into this, it’s definitely worth a listen and a watch, just to take a quiet breather while everyones passing by around you in highspeed. You don’t always need to go fast, remember to enjoy the things and people around you <3
I, Doris - Just Some Doris
https://soundcloud.com/user-60096052/just-some-doris-1/s-kR6sc
Oh another home-run from Britain before they exit EU, if anything I hope that the whole thing will bring a ton of great music built on anger and frustration. This lovely little tune by Doris is rather comical, not in the annoying way of course, it’s more dorky - Dorky Doris, fuck I’d love to have a friend who called herself that. Now I love dorky, although naming yourself dorky is probably more ballsy than dorky, anyhow enough of this - the tune is cosy, you’ll enjoy it! I for one hope I get to see I, Doris live sometime!
Pink Soup - Epiphany
https://pinksoup.bandcamp.com/track/epiphany
Loads of lofi bedroom-electro vibes in this sleepy slacker tune from Pink Soup, it’s a perfect soundtrack for a delirious sunday stroll to the local grocery store still halfway gone from last nights escapades. I have absolutely no idea what’s really being sung about, but it doesn’t matter, I feel whats going on and thats exactly what the track’s supposed to do - switch your mind off and just let go for a little while, we’ll be okay, this boat is gonna dock on the other side somewhere.
The Oxen - Glass Pastures
https://soundcloud.com/theoxen/glass-pastures
Damn perfect tune for getting completely lost - this track makes me want to get a garden, somewhere I can just lie down on grass and have butterflies and bumblebees flying around above my head. I’m going to need some sunflowers too - I can already see them swaying in tune to this song with the wind, it’s going to be fucking magical!
The tune evolves beautifully also - it’s smooth sailing with the change-up of a c-part where it gets a bit more rocky, but you’ll be back - it’s like a pretty nice guided audio-meditation - letting you ride their magical rollercoaster safely back to the docking bay. I’d love to try some of the other rides in this delicious theme park <3
Royal Target - By My Side
https://soundcloud.com/smiths1967/by-my-side
This tune reminds me of the first albums by bands like Beat Happening and the Vaselines. There’s some sort of “puppy like” thing about songs on those albums as there is with this tune by Royal Target. It’s kinda tumbling ahead in the most charming of ways. This song gets some extra vibe by the thick german “english” accent, it just really works.
I know from conversation that the tune itself holds enormous meaning to the artist and is quite personal, which is always a nice thing to know that something was created with a lot of emotion - that’s why songs like this works out, you don’t to drown in technical skills or have equipment more expensive than your house, you just need integrity and emotion. I hope 2020 will bring plenty of more songs down this road.
Modesta - Ode to the Peculiar
https://open.spotify.com/track/2KrbjD9t31ZpBKUocd7M5c
This is about as poppy’ as it gets for us, but it’s so damn good this here. It’s like cutting hot butter with a sharp knife or watching someone squeeze silly putty in slow motion, I mean come one - that stuff is trance-like! Why do you think ASMR is so popular these days - I'm pretty sure Modesta is the true link between music and asmr. You should give it a try, it will make your day better, promise!
Take care everyone and have a good new years.
See you in 2020

I understand about Taiga now. I was not expecting Titus to be from U-40 either. I was expecting him to be from L77 since it’s Leo’s 45th anniversary.
Hi!
This is more unlikely due to the fact that L77 was essentially destroyed, so having another survivor would entail more interactions between said survivor and the Leo Brothers, which would be more or a hassle to handle than say U40 or O-50. Not to mention the Taiga universe seems to be unlikely within the main M78 universe (as its further elaborated in my part 5 of my ‘First Thoughts’ post series)
But that’s not to say that having another survivor of the L77 destruction would be impossible. But just going based on the already numerous amount of plot-heavy material that this series already has (If you’ve been following my posts recently), itll be very taxing to include another plot-heavy character into the mix.
So I believe if TsuPro intends to include another layer of intricacy with this aspect, it would either have to be an independent series or they will just include the dude and blatantly ignore to address the implications within said series at first. And he will have a follow up series/ side story after said series for him (Or they could just retcon the Taiga Universe which L77 planet was NOT destroyed) which is also possible due to the constraints of the ‘New Gen’ premise (A gentle reminder that Taiga is the 7th New Gen Series)
However, as you said, considering that this year IS Leo’s 45th anniversary, we MIGHT see a character like that pop up somewhere along Taiga (As per mentioned when I cited a possibility of a New 6 Ultra Brothers in a post recently), as many would know, this speculation has been making its round through the fandom due to the fact that TsuPro is busting out Photon Earth so early in ep 8. But in order for a new member to come in, and assuming Taiga is at the most 35-ish episodes, we would have to take away a possible Titus and Fuma super forms. (Or else expect sloppily-handled plot progression which is even more unlikely for obvious reasons)
(Unless of course some would make the point that due to Taiga being the first entry of the Reiwa series, TsuPro would want to continuously up the ante by accommodating this inclusion with an extension to a 50+ episode series like a conventional Heisei Era series)
But personally, I just feel that TsuPro has made enough radical headways with this series thus far and its widely agreed that they’ll stick to the modus operandi from here on out with Titus and Fuma getting their super forms followed by a Trinity Fusion/ Taiga Ultimate Form/ Super Ultraman Taiga via Ultra Overlapping/ All three ultras fighting together with a combination of the aforementioned in the final episode and/or in the movie
(The movie itself is a whole different story altogether which I will discuss in a separate post as the movie date nears in eventually, or if someone else sends an ask before that lol)
With that being said, a survivor from L77 may or may not be possible, it all depends on how ballsy TsuPro intends to be for Taiga which either way could be very plausible as they certainly have taken enough ballsy moves already with Taiga, but beyond that lies the critical crossroads of personal opinion as to how ballsy they intend to be as of now until we progress further into the series to get a better idea of where they intend to take this series to.
Thanks for the question!

So. Now that it’s been about... 12 hours since I played the update. A review and some general thoughts under the cut! Warning that this contains REALLY detailed spoilers so skip over this post if you haven’t actually played the update (or if you just don’t care).
As a whole, I really liked this story update. I had mixed emotions going in, especially thanks to the warnings of the update dealing with “difficult topics” (that’s putting it mildly, SSO), but all in all, it was enjoyable.
First of all, I want to say that the updated graphics gave SO MUCH to this. It looked absolutely stunning, both the environments and the updated character models (those that have it). The sound design was also amazing, especially the music. I think so far this is the best soundtrack I’ve heard in this game, and it really made it so much more enjoyable to play. Especially with the core melody always being the chorus of “I’ll Be There”. My heart burst.
Starting out with a whole team of people in front of the portal, with Elisabeth telling us that there’s a lot she hasn’t said yet, and that she will another time, honestly feels like a sure sign that something bad is gonna happen, in retrospect. I really didn’t think of it until afterwards since I was so caught up in the tension and excitement of it all but... god damn:
The entire thing with “last time” and Catherine really had me screeching. I need to know more
Concorde wanting to bond with Elisabeth but not being allowed was really sad. It’s even sadder afterward
I just wanna know more about past sisterhoods at this point tbh
Going into Pandoria was really cool, riding together with the updated Soul Riders and their horses, the ongoing dialogue as you move, it felt like a big mission. I mean, I know it was, but I really felt it.
The boss battle style sequence with Anwir was honestly a fun thing that also kept me on the edge of my seat. I haven’t finished the Nightdust quests yet, so I don’t know if there’s a logical explanation to Darko having him available like that or not, but it was a cool and fun idea and much more enjoyable than a race against tentacles thank you. Easy enough to play, but still with enough room to actually fail attacking.
The whole bit with Concorde freeing Anne and getting to see her in the game for real for the first time was... emotional. Especially with what Anne said about Concorde. I will admit that that actually crushed me a little bit. And I 100% get it, I had a feeling she’d react like that, I’d seen posts on here saying “what if x”. But seeing it live in game still really felt like a gut punch.
Anne’s actual design looks amazing in the game though, and I especially loved her Pandoric scars. It’s a visual reminder of her trauma, and that she’ll always be affected by it, and I think that’s a very mature and interesting route to take.
In all honesty, if I hadn’t seen the trailer for this update, I would’ve thought it was over by the time most of the Soul Riders had come out of the portal. I had seen the trailer though, so I knew I was in for even more emotions. So sure enough, seeing Tin-Can come out by himself was... a bit anxiety inducing to say the least.
So... the heaviest bit...
Design wise, I loved the animated cutscene. It was beautifully made, it ran smoothly, and it was incredibly emotional to watch. Seeing Alex battling Darko by herself showed off how far the game’s animation and graphic design have come, and also how far the characters have come in the story. Some of the things that were said also really felt like a bit of a gut punch, if I’m being honest.
And then comes the part that genuinely made me upset in a “This hurt my heart” kind of way, and stunned in a “I can’t believe they were ballsy enough to pull this” kind of way: Elisabeth’s death. It’s such a classic scene, I’ve seen it countless times in movies and television shows, even other video games, but I genuinely thought “This is a children’s game, they wouldn’t”. Elisabeth knocking Darko down, going over to give Alex her hand, and saving the day. And then she doesn’t get to.
I’m man enough to admit that I cried. I gasped, I clasped my hands over my mouth, and I sobbed. And I kept saying “no way no way no way” (I also texted that to my boyfriend as it happened). This is a character that we’ve known pretty much since the start of the game. There are emotions attached to her. So yes, of course I cried.
Thinking back at the start of the quest to save Anne, at what Elisabeth said about how there’s so much the sisterhood doesn’t know, feels so much more cruel now, given that among her last words were “There’s so much I haven’t told you”. And then watching her eyes close, watching her get shattered, was even more crushing. (In my boyfriend’s words, she got Kairi’d)
I spent a good amount of time thinking “Maybe we can save her, maybe there’s a way to bring her back!” because this is a game marketed primarily at children and surely there’s a way to a happier ending, right?? I essentially ran around the collapsed portal thinking maybe doing all this will help me find a way to also bring back Elisabeth. After a while I realised it wouldn’t and I had to give up that hope.
Gameplay-wise, finding all the spots of light where Lisa was trying to push through was the kind of simple puzzle you’d expect. And that’s really not a bad thing at all. The music, the dark colours, and the little pieces of light shining through, really gave so much atmosphere and reflected the emotions of what just happened really well. It wasn’t the most intriguing thing in the world, but it gives the player something to do after a long, heart-wrenching cutscene, so I really can’t complain.
At the end, finding your way out, hearing Lisa’s voice guiding you, and seeing everyone that survived, and talking around the campfire, really made me feel a whole range of emotions. Because on one hand, you’ve just rescued an important and beloved person from a horrible fate, and the sisterhood is finally complete again. But on the other hand, you just lost another important person, a mentor and a leader. With that, there’s also the reminder that another leader is most likely inching closer to death himself. I was never sure exactly what I was feeling, and I’m still not.
So... to round this up, because it’s a little bit rambly, I liked this update. A lot. It wasn’t perfect, but trying to claim everything has to be in order for it to be likable is pointless. Was it overall fun and enjoyable to play? Absolutely. Was it worth the seven year wait? Maybe not. But given how good it was visually, I can give that a pass. I don’t think it would’ve been quite as pleasant if it hadn’t looked as good as it did. All in all, it feels like the game has grown up a great deal, and I like that. Elisabeth’s death broke my heart, absolutely, but it felt like... a more natural progression than “The power of love and friendship can save anything, even the pieces of our literally shattered mentor”. Even though I admit I hoped for it for a while.
Thank you, SSO, for this story update. You really had me feeling a lot, and I don’t think I’ve ever cried at any update before. So thank you. It was brilliant.

Slammiversary XVI Review: Sunday July 22nd, from the Rebel Complex in Toronto,CA
Petey Williams vs Fenix vs Taiji Ishimori vs Johnny Impact:[****1/4]
Originally Rich Swann was scheduled for this match but he got injuried during the MLW event from NY so he got replaced by Petey (wishing Swann a speedy recovery). It made the match a little worse because Swann is a better high flyer then Petey but my god what a match it was! Crazy fast from the start, everyone had his time to shine, big cool spots like that stunning springboard double footstomp from Fenix who stole the Show with Impact. He was going for the, i believe, a muscle buster on petey but he got caught by a superkick from Johnny that lead him the win with his starpship pain on his return to Impact. Great win, super awesome match you should check out. Great start to the PPV and great return for Johnny Impact.
Winner: Johnny Impact
Tessa Blanchard vs Allie:[***1/4]
Surprisingly a really good match even tho i wasn't expecting it to be this good. Probably also one of Allie's best matches on Impact as she and Tessa had really good chemistry as the match went on. They took some nasty spots too like Tessa's frankensteiner or even the Allie Valley Driver on the Floor. The canadian showed a new side of her since she went Demon Bunny but this time got short as she got nailed by tessa's hammerlock DDT that got her the win and her first on PPV. Probably it won't go on this feud as i smell Tessa being the next challenger for the Impact Knockouts title
Winner: Tessa Blanchard
House of Hardcore Match: Eddie Edwards vs Tommy Dreamer:[***]
Solid hardcore match who personally was good and it wasn't as bad as i originally thought. The new eddie edwards is pure gold as he went fully psycho and change completely himself. They put on a good hardcore match, not really exciting tho but it had a good mix of wrestling and storytelling too, like the moment when Eddie asked Dreamer to hit him in the head with the kendo stick...as dreamer wanted to set a table on fire he got caught by a low blow and a ddt by eddie..boston knee party with the help a chair and game set and match...post match Eddie had a breakdown where he kinda wanted to hit Dreamer but helped him stand up and Alisha came to the ring to get Eddie to shake Dreamer's hand but it turned out that Dreamer gave him the kendo stick and left the ring...interesting...very interesting...
Winner:Eddie Edwards
X Division Championship: Brian Cage vs Matt Sydal:[***1/4]
Another solid match thus far as this time we had a slow start with Sydal gaining momentum by working on Cage's knees so he could keep him on the ground and have an advantage over him, but as the match went on, both guys picked up the pace and the match got much better. Sydal went all out with some crazy counters like the drill claw into a hurricanrana or even when he powerbombed cage who went for a checky hurricanrana...then we had the finish: Sydal went for the shooting star press, caught the ropes, bad landing, drill claw and Cage won the title. For the result, Cage win is good but i believe he won't be X Division champ for long as it would be interesting to use his title reign like in the past TNA did with Option C. On the finish, i believe it was a botch as Cage raised his foot but Sydal missed him as he hit the ropes with his feet, unless it was planned to end like this First title match of the night and first title change. Will we have more?
Winner AND NEW X Division Champion: Brian Cage
Knockouts Championship: Madison Rayne vs Su Yung:[**3/4]
It was an enjoyable match but not as good as the other Knockouts match. They used some shenaningans to elevate Su's character and all the brides maid at ringside. Rayne looked great and was a good babyface challanger but at the end of the day she felt short after Yung applied her disgusting mandible choke. Post match was great as Su layed Madison in the coffin she used for her entrance sending a big message. The way they are booking Su Yung's character is great, not much during matches, but all her angles and the backstage stuff is cool. Will we finally get the undead bride vs the Hive queen soon?
Winner AND STILL Knockouts Champion: Su Yung
5150 Street Fight for the Impact Tag Team Championship: LAX vs OGZ:[****]
This match was actually really really good: it was what a street fight is supposed to be: violent, not much wrestling, carnage and lots of fun. They used the stipulation really well and also the various weapons: the table spots, the ladder could have been used better but still the double team spot was nice. I thought that the OGZ would win so the feud would go longer but the champs picked up the win thanks to a Konnan interference who distracted Homicide who got hit later on the thumbtacks with a bodyslam followed by a frog splash from Santana. The finish was ok as it really set nicely the post match with King had enough and assault Konnan and his young pops and took the belts with them after he marked them with the OGZ. This feud is not over and i believe it might lead to a rematch in some kind of pre-taped Final deletion style match. Hopefully because this feud, which has been great so far, need a memorable ending.
Winner AND STILL Impact Tag Team Champions: LAX
Mask vs Hair: Sami Callihan vs Pentagon Jr:[****1/2]
I was really hyped for this match, because Callihan is a fucking badass heel and Pentagon is one of my favourite wrestlers coming out of LU, but this match was even better than my expactiations. Jesus what a great match! They started fast and then the match got brutal with the Spikes spot who problably won't make me sleep tonight, the chairshots, the super zero factor on the chair and callihan even kicked out! Maybe the refbump wasn't really necessary but it kinda added something more to the match...finish was really great as Callihan made Pentagon snap and he replied by snapping his arm and hitting the zero factor for the second time. Post match Callihan tried to sneak out from the headshave but Fenix caught him with his brother and now Callihan will be bold. This match is probably Impact's MOTY at the moment and it's a match you should check out as soon as you can. Some of you might not enjoy the violence in this match, like all the spikes stuff, but it made so much sense to the storytelling and heated things up. Kudos to both of them for a crazy good match.
Winner: Pentagon Jr
Impact World Championship: Moose vs Austin Aries:[****]
While watching this match i had the feeling they would screw up everything, because sometimes it happens with Impacts main events but thank god they didn't because we had a really great main event to close the show. It was easily the best singles match Moose ever had and he and Aries had a really great chemistry and what it made the match good is that they start fast and kept picking up the pace. Moose went ballsy with some spots like the dive on the ramp and shined big time, proving that he is a really good big men, while Aries proved once again that he is a really great wrestler and that WWE made a big mistake by not giving him a chance outside 205. Result came outta nowhere as i wasn't expecting Aries to keep the title cause i felt it was Moose's time to win the gold after they have done a solid buildup around him and also the way the match was heading made me think about a title change, but for once,a heel won in a smart way. Unless they have something big in mind for the title at Bound For Glory (BFG series please), i think we will have Cage vs Aries for the title. Great main event for a great Slammiversary.
Winner AND STILL Impact World Heavyweight Champion: Austin Aries
Overall: I loved Slammiversary: it was the kind of shows i like: less talking, less BS, no stupid surprises, no stupid angles but just matches that are good and make sense with the storylines. Nothing was bad in this show, nothing suprisingly because even the bad matches on paper were ok. 3 hours of great wrestling and great matches with the roster coming out really strong from this event. Loving the Callis-D'amore era so far. Kudos to everyone involed, best Impact PPV in a long time. Hopefully BFG can be as good as this one or as good as Redemption [8.75]

oh. oh. so that's how we're doing this? fine then. (I kid I love the excuse to send you LOTS) favorite character to write about this year? any new fics to start next year? events you participated in this year? fics you wanted to write but didn’t? a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read?
spamming me is actually the way to my heart, this is facts
• favorite character to write about this year:
honestly i’m torn between ophelia and leopold (as in, framework fitz.) i loved exploring ophelia, giving her a backstory and developing her character (because ahem, canon failed to do so), putting her in different scenario/aus and just having fun with her in general. i tried to stick to the (brief) canonic characterisation of her in like, the first half of 4x21, before everything went to shit, and obviously the madame hydra characterisation as much as i could, but admittedly a lot of it was my own personal input/shared headcanons and i guess that’s what made it so fun. that’s not to say she’s a blank canvas, but because canon didn’t really expand on her character (she was human for like, what, less than a day?) a lot of it was down to personal interpretation to fill in the blanks. !always human ophelia, for example, would obviously be totally different to the canon enhanced/inhuman/freshly 3d printed version of her and so on. basically it was really fun to try and figure out what she’d be like had canon not done her so dirty.
and, of course, leopold. it’s true that watching/writing/reading about villains is often more fascinating than focusing on the protagonist. i stand by what i’ve said before - he is my favourite aos character. yeah, he was in four episodes, and yeah he’s technically not a separate character at all - but it feels like he is and that’s basically the interpretation i ran with most of the time, treating the framework as an alternate, separate universe as opposed to a virtual reality. hell, even within that virtual reality, he’s just so vastly different, so deliciously depraved that it makes it super fun to explore his character further. there’s just so much more to him than meets the eye and i fondly remember all the days i spent over the summer just coming up with and discussing headcanons about his upbringing, his father and mother, his academy years and rise to power at hydra. that’s the great thing about the framework - the parts it gives you are fantastic, but the parts it doesn’t give you are even better. so a lot of it was exploring his past and his future (babiesssss. !dad leopold might just be my favourite thing, like, ever. the mad, scary doctor caring for a baby. it kills me. him worrying that he’s going to let his child down and become just like his father. the angsssst). he’s so complex and so evidently deeply troubled and absolutely tragic and i love it. he’s not a black and white, “he’s evil and that’s it” kind of character. he’s passionate and determined; he wants to love and be loved, but because of the constant pressure via his father and the absence of his mother, he’s not quite sure how to go about showing it. it’s so fun to explore his voice because he’s canonically savage and just so… like, there’s something so chilling about his stoic demeanor (notice how he only has angry outbursts in private.) i can’t begin to explain how fun it is to poke around his head and explore why he does what he does - he’s convinced he’s saving people, okay, he literally believes that - and how he deals with the complications that arise (inhuman baby, that will be all.)
tl;dr: leopold “the doctor” fitz is fucked up and i absolutely love it.
any new fics to start next year?
not entirely sure if this is a fic rec or a wip question tbh, so i’m basically gonna give a brief run-down of my fic to-do-list: okay, so i have like three fitz/skye fics i still need to write (as in, plot bunnies that will literally keep driving me insane until i finally get my shit together and get them down on virtual paper). the first one is a (late) christmas-based fic where they’re both working at hydra and he’s her scrouge-like boss who, outwardly, hates joy and love and christmas. one day, after a phone call from his mother, he tells skye he’s got a proposal for her (literally and figuratively speaking). cue a fake-dating trope fic with christmas fluff and a scottish backdrop. basically “the proposal” but with less deportation and more christmas.
the second one is the framework fitz/skye post-revolution prison au (totally inspired by your three sentence prompt fill, which i love.) listen, i love torturing him and the entire prison sequence from 5x05 stole my heart, depression prison beard and all. so, it’s more of that, plus a lot of healing in a motel room.
and the third one, which is less of a solid idea and more of a vague outline in my head: a lowkey star wars au. well. a part of it. soulbond i guess? whatever you want to call it. basically i can’t stop thinking about the two of them being psychically linked and appearing to each other at the most inconvenient of times and falling in love like idiots despite the fact that he’s the literal actual head of hydra and she’s a newly-turned-inhuman and, you know, a devoted resistance member. basically, she’s his redemption arc.
also i’m gonna try and finally fill the prompts in my inbox, because i’m always yelling for more and then they just sit there and i end up hoarding.
events you participated in this year?
i really started writing proper aos fic in the second half of the year, so i didn’t get a chance to join all that many, but hopefully i’ll join more of these in 2018.
• fitzsimmonsnetwork secret santa 2017• aospositivitynet secret santa 2017• skyeward big bang(because i like to mix it up a little. also because like no aos fic writing event accounts for my fav aos ship, rip)
fics you wanted to write but didn’t?
SO. MANY. too many arguably. like, i’m so bad. i’ll probably update this post if/when i upload an actual unfinished fic dump 2017 part II, because tbh i’ve been toying with the idea for a while.
okay, so there’s:
1. the literal very first aos fic i started writing, a direct result of all my pent-up anger and frustration at that lame-ass finale. i decided a fix-it fic was in order, where it basically diverges from canon around halfway through 4x21 (before that scene) and ophelia’s pardoned and allowed to stay, albeit under close surveillance and basically locked up in the containment module and the team has to learn to deal with it and accept her while fitz helps her come to terms with what it really means to be human. also, feelings don’t just get thrown away instead of being properly addressed because that’s lazy writing and you can love more than one person at a time, god fucking damn it). while this is still unfinished, it admittedly later evolved into a broader collab verse known as “team au.”
2. fitz/ophelia ‘we kind of broke up because you chose jemma and now we’re meeting again years later in new york and i never realised how much i missed you until you started chasing me down the street’ au.
3. this one canon-divergence (though canon can’t prove me wrong, so technically…) au where the framework is still the framework and everything is pretty much the same except ophelia’s pregnant (look, in 4x16 when he’s getting all worked up about “i have to protect you, i have to…” and she grabs his hand i literally thought for a moment that she was going to place it against her stomach and they’d do an oh-my-god-baby reveal, but they’re not ballsy enough to go there, so it’s mostly just wishful thinking BUT STILL) so when daisy quakes her out the window, well. in other words: ANGST.
4. this one fic where fitz and ophelia went to high school together but never really interacted until one party during the summer of their freshman year of college, realise they have feelings for each other and sleep together literally under the stars before he moves across the country because of college and a prestigious internship. shortly after term starts, ophelia realises she’s pregnant. cue long-distance internet pining, several failed attempts to confess/meet up in person, and and lots of hurt/comfort as ophelia slowly learns to accept her situation and make the best of it. plus some father-daughter bonding. it sounds really lame now i guess, but it’s really an idea that’s been with me for a long time and i’ve plotted and planned it and thought about it a lot so i would really love to push myself to just sit down and word vomit it out at some point. i promised myself i’d do in december/over christmas, but of course that didn’t happen, so hopefully sometime in january. it’s kind of a pet project of mine so i’ll be really disappointed in myself if i just let it go, even though the fitz/ophelia ship is as good as dead by now and i’d probably just be writing it for myself more so than for any real kind of audience. (yeah, i still have a soft spot for this ship, mostly because of the chest-tightening nostalgia i get whenever i think about it and the literal hours i’d spent being so completely invested in it over the summer. will i ever get over it? probably not.)
there’s a bunch of other stuff i always wanted to explore (leopold backstory, framework-canon hydra uprising, framework post-canon revolution, etc.) but never really got far enough in any other stuff to go into detail about them here (i really have to properly sift through my docs at some point, it’s literally a fic dump of headcanons/ideas from like, three months of hardcore obsessing all summer) but i guess one simple conclusion can be drawn from all this: i have a thing for angst, redemption arcs and pregnancy/baby fic, not necessarily in that order.
a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read?
this is such a hard question because 1. i’ve read a lot of stuff from like, a weird mix of different fandoms, 2. with my ‘unfortunate/problematic’ choice of ships/favourite characters it’s hard to pick something everyone would enjoy. however:
for this empire, after night - i know the kylo ren/rey pairing isn’t for everyone (see above), but in my defense this isn’t really a shippy fic at all. it may, however, be one of the damn most beautiful things i’ve read in a long, long time. the descriptions, the imagery. it’s breathtaking (and really puts my own miserable scribbling into perspective)
#replies#ilosttrackofthings#as per usual this got away from me#it's basically a meta or something welp#writing#fic tag#long post

this is gonna be a ballsy post, but.....ya’ll are used to me by now.
So...just as a disclaimer i ABSOLUTELY believe all will work out, everything will come full circle and they’ll get married. with THAT being said...
Aaron: I’ve recently had an epiphany, that it’s not Robert that Aaron doesn’t trust, it’s happiness itself. Maybe at first his mistrust was directly connected to Robert, but over the past few months, he has actually realized that Robert isn’t lying to him, as he said to Chas last night. Now, I think it’s actually about whether or not happiness for HIMSELF can actually last.
We all know the affects of Gordon. That is basically, an in your face, neon sign about Aaron’s insecurities. But let’s take a look at something a bit more subtle. I’ve always believed that Aaron’s argument with Jackson BEFORE the crash added to Aaron’s feelings of insecurity. Jackson told Aaron that he wanted him to be honest, that by being honest he wouldn’t lose him. So, Aaron bore his soul, told Jackson how he felt, that he didn’t know if he could ever love someone because of all he’d been though. That he didn’t understand love so he didn’t have anything to compare it to, so how could he know if he felt it. And he didn’t believe anyone would ever love someone like him. Well, Jackson couldn’t handle truth and walked away leaving Aaron yelling “But you have me, you still have ME!”.
In that moment, Aaron internalized that HE wasn’t enough. And when Jackson was paralyzed and seeking to end his life, Aaron begged him to stay with him, to live, Jackson just couldn’t. I am NOT in anyway delving into Jackson’s mental state at that moment, i am just talking about Aaron’s mindset here. At that point Aaron must have felt abandoned AGAIN by someone he loved, that HE wasn’t enough for someone to stick around for. So for Aaron...happiness is just something that just doesn’t last for him. It’s something that he feels he has no right to or that he doesn’t deserve or that he simply doesn’t know now to accept as real or truth.
Currently, I honestly believe that Aaron’s insecurities at this point have nothing to do with thinking Robert will stray. Or that Robert will cheat. I think it’s about Aaron not believing happiness is something he gets to hang onto. That eventually Robert may think he’s not enough to stick around for not realizing that he is self-sabotaging the very happiness he so desperately wants to have. Aaron has always been the type waiting for that other shoe to drop.
He knows that Rebecca isn’t a threat in a “Rob’s going to leave me for her” type of scenario. She is just a walking, breathing, living reminder of his insecurities. Every time he sees her, she’s a reminder of what he thinks he’s not. Confident, open, free spirited, business minded, etc.. All the things Robert is and Aaron thinks Robert wants/needs. If Rebecca was actually a male gay/bisexual character, I believe Aaron would feel the EXACT same way. This situation is no longer about Robert. It’s about Aaron and what all his internal dialogue is doing to him. He is trying SO hard to portray a “no big deal” attitude in order to prove to himself, Robert and Chas that he’s okay. But this mixed message he’s sending out to Robert are going to backfire.
He lied about a trip to Manchester, then had to quickly book it in secret because he didn’t want Robert going on an overnight biz trip with Rebecca. That is the behavior of a desperately insecure person. It saddens me that his insecurities have turned him into a deceitful person taking desperate actions.
I don’t have much faith in Emmerdale delving into the deepness of Aaron’s issues. They seem to only focus on them in order to push a story line, but never really trying to get to the root of it all and trying to get him some help. Aaron should be seeing his counselor, but again, I don’t have much faith in Emmerdale.
Robert: At the moment, Robert is proceeding under the assumption that Aaron is slightly uncomfortable with his interactions with Rebecca, however, not to the degree that everyone seems to assume he knows. Last Robert knew, Aaron and Rebecca had a talk and all was well. Aaron even encouraged Robert to have drinks with Rebecca. All was well, until Moira opened her mouth. Twice Aaron told Robert to go and do his thing regarding Rebecca. I can GUARANTEE that if Robert knew the depth to Aaron’s pain and insecurity, Robert would spend money to put Rebecca back on that helicopter she flew in on and straight back to where she came from. He’s burn the village down to protect Aaron. So the fact that he is going along his merry little way is because he honestly doesn’t know the dept of what Aaron is feeling because he continue to get mixed messages.
I ADORE Robert, I am a professed #Sugdenite, however, I love him enough to say he was a complete ASSHOLE in the past. But that was the past and for the last 8 months he’s been all about making Aaron happy and creating a life for their little family. EVERYTHING he does is for their future and their happiness. Robert tends to have tunnel vision when he’s focused on a something especially when that something matters to him and his, Aaron’s and Liv’s future is what is driving him full force right now. So no, he is not aware that the mixed messages are a sign of something deeper. However....that seems to be coming.
DISCLAIMER....THOSE OF YOU OF WEAK CONSTITUTIONS, WALK AWAY NOW....I’M GOING DARK.
I have been of a belief that Robert has a breaking point. Any normal person will get tired and frustrated of being accused over and over and over again of doing something that they are NOT doing, constantly NOT being given the benefit of the doubt after doing SO much to show how committed they are. I would. I would get fed up and annoyed and frustrated.
It seems, so does Rob in Week 3 when Aaron shows up at HF and Roberts lays into him about his jealousy. Is Rob in the wrong about lying as to where he is? Yes, but I am just guessing he is a person who is tired of hearing the attitude about his business dealings with Rebecca (which is actually his repayment for her getting him hard to get tickets for Aaron’s surprise). I think the argument ensues is what has Aaron keyed up (among high emotions about the anniversary of his abuse reveal to Robert) and THAT’S why he’s quick to violence when he gets caught in the middle of the Fasim shoving match. Maybe one of them says something that triggers Aaron and he loses it.
I tend to pay close attention to words used and foretelling. And on Aaron’s bday when Rob said “I can’t keep doing this” and “This is never going to work if you don’t trust me” was VERY telling. I honestly think, Robert is going to ask for some time apart. I think he’s going to tell Aaron that maybe it’s best that they call off the engagement. I think he may feel Aaron needs time to really think about whether he can be with Robert or marry him if he doesn’t trust him. He may encourage Aaron that it’s best they take some time for Aaron to really think things over.
I also believe that when it all goes down with Fasim, Kasim calls the cops on Aaron, it’s during this “we need a break” talk with Robert that the cops come and arrest him for the assault.
I think at THAT point, Robert realizes just how much and how deeply Aaron’s issues go and it reminds him of how much Aaron needs him to be there for him and how short and fragile life is (remembering almost losing him in October) that it reaffirms that they belong together and he decides a date for the wedding needs to be set because they are in it for the long haul, they are in it for “messed up forever” and he’s not abandoning the love of his life for anything or anyone.
So yeah....this was a REALLY long one. but ever since the birthday episode, this has been on my mind. again, I do believe Robert suggests they take a break, but I also believe it’ll come full circle and work out in the end.
Thanks for reading this LONG ASS post.
