echoes of wisdom takes place in the downfall timeline the maps and stuff line up
the zelda team has just added stuff like gerudo and gorons from previous games that werent in alttp because they werent really a thing in zelda yet and theyre probably expected and stuff
#i was just talking to someone about this and.#great deku tree gerudo gorons sea zora all there. why. botw/totk had them and theyre popular.#they can also all be there because the areas theyre in were blocked by clouds in alttp map and werent important tothe story in previous game#i cant see it taking place pre oot/near skyward sword/etc#it just adds up really well to the downfall timeline in a way i cant explain properly#this is understandable right. the maps line up way to well.#i say this as i was obsessed with alttp and albw for a long time#i cross stitched the entire alttp map twice i know it so well#im not trying to be rude or dismiss headcanons btw i just woke up and will forget abt this probably#i just need to put this in words for a sec#loz eow#echoes of wisdom

This is one of the few games that COULD predate Skyward Sword, as the Master Sword isn’t an element at all. However, my theory is it’s between Four Swords and OoT.
They didn’t use the term “Triforce” in Minish Cap or FS, so them still calling it the wrong thing makes sense, with the added idea that they would start calling it a Triforce in honor of Tri, setting up the usage in OoT. Given the design of OoT Zora being more like simplified Sea Zora, but living in freshwater, implies the two Zora villages intermarried and produced hybrid offspring that could survive fresh water, cleaning up that plot point in time for Ruto and her dad to happen. OoT/MM also prominently features Deku Scrubs, which are reduced or non-existent in many other timelines and 100% gone in the BotW timeline (replaced by garden-variety Octoroks) (yes that was a pun). Rock Roast existed in this time, or at least did in Termina, so could have also existed in OoT.
Ganon and The Gerudo being friendly to Hyrule is the hardest one to explain. However, if you look at Moblins in this game, the larger they get the more they resemble Ganon. Lvl. 3 Sword Moblin (whom I affectionately referred to as ‘Big Guy’ when I summoned him) is close in color and only a little smaller. So theoretically, Ganon could be an extra-large, extra-Demise-blessed, demon Moblin. He has Null’s memories when he faces Link at the beginning and says “Oh it’s you again”—Link had been in the Rifts before and had been thwarting them left and right, so it’s reasonable Ganon/Null would know him. As for the Gerudo, a few generations could pass, and a severe drought and the rise of Koume and Kotake as leaders to steer the Gerudo into thievery to survive is still possible. Ganon possesses the Gerudo prince to form Ganondorf and starts looking for the Triforce, and the rest is history.
We have a decently established kingdom (not post TotK), and no massive ocean or trains (not post WW/ST). I’ve seen some valid ones saying it could be post ALttP based on buildings/ruins/the map, but seems weird they’d briefly stop using the term “Triforce” in that era given it’s called the Triforce again in ALbW/LoZ 1/AoL. It could also be after TP/FSA, since those games also don’t use the word Triforce, but there’s no Deku Tree in those timelines iirc.
There’s no real clear answer, and I’m sure Nintendo won’t give us one since their policy now seems to be “lol what timeline”, but this is the closest I can get. Lemme know your theories!
#eow spoilers#loz eow#echoes of wisdom spoilers#loz echoes of wisdom#echoes of wisdom#loz timeline#theory based solely off my memories#I’ll be honest I am weaker on the ALttP lore it’s been ages since I last played

more totk rewritten thoughts
since the mastersword still breaks at the start even in my rewrite, its gotta get restored somehow, so i think i wanna be a little 'classic' about it;
you can find the broken mastersword in a cave system near hyrule castle, its very obvious so you are more likely to come across it and pick it up, it doesnt use up an inventory slot but gets its own just like it did in botw
once you find it zelda inspects it and decides you need to talk to probably purah or impa to determine if its savable, since while it got damaged before its way worse this time; you get told you should ask the deku tree about it (so theres an actual incentive to go to the forest of the krogs/koroks) and discover that its been corrupted
in the corrupted forest you can walk around in freely here, without the mist teleporting you around since the spell of the krogs/koroks isnt working anymore, the center is mostly the same as in canon
zelda detects bigger concentrations of miasma all around the forest, at each point she directs you to is a miniboss, in total there are 3, but while the trees in the forest start to grow leaves again after you defeat each of them (there are mostly to all barren in botw too so i thought that would be a cool thing to siginify the ground has been cleansed more now) the center and the dekutree are still corrupted, however the deku trees insides are now accessible, once you go down there there is a boss (main big one thats unique and not just phantom ganon, tho that WAS a cool moment in canon, im using phantom ganons as the guys you gotta fight for the memory tree thingies so it would be too much reuse u think) once you are done with the first phase it flees into the underground via burrowing down, you follow through the hole and theres phase two in an underground boss arena themed around roots .. since its in the roots of the dekutree still
afterwards the forest goes back to normal (just with the other trees more alive again) and the deku tree tells you to put the sword back into its good ol pedestal, while its not gonna be fortified against miasma it can restore the blade form, and due to you cleansing the forest and making it more healthier it will not take ages to do so
then you are left to your own devices again, but once you reach the middle point of the game, after fighting ganondorf for the first time (which also triggers the miasma memory tree thingies i made a concept of a while back) you can go back to the forest and get the mastersword back, its blade restored physically but it being still vunerable to miasma and has only little attack power
zelda has the idea of going to the springs to ask for a blessing for the sword, however the deku tree suggests to ask the three dragons for it instead (so if you havent tried it yet you are hinted to go and try an land on them, since you couldnt do that in botw, also reference to skyward sword and how the mastersword got to be) after each blessing it gets higher damage and durability; once you obtain all three it still does not seem to be where it should be
now here i am a little unsure about if i want zelda to bless it also (similar to how skysw zelda needed to bless it) or if you should bring it to the giant hylia statue in the forgotten temple
(for zelda it would be neat bc its both a reference and something more character connected, but also you where already hunting down the deku tree and the dragons for it so making you go yet somewhere else again seems a little much; i like the giant statue as a way to guide you there but then again i dont think you an incentive for literally every place)
(on a side note about link shiekah arm, it has a battery that recharges and you can upgrade, but i also thought about making it so you CAN push it past its battery but then it takes from your health instead - like the destroyer in the botw DLC, but slower- which eliminates the need for an equivalent of the lil zonau charges)
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#totk#ganondoodles rewrites totk#idk if im reaching anyone with these ideas#and i doubt it will gain much traction once i get to drawing it#but i wanna do it anyway#open for constructive feedback

WIP Game
Tagged by @mistresslrigtar, and @zeldaelmo, thank you both!! <3 This is the WIP game where I have to post my wip titles and you can ask after them. Most of these titles are final, but a few of them are still being workshopped :) I did a Read More because this was getting long, as usual :P I'm also gonna tag @prismicnexus @afaroffsong @silvercaptain24 @sunburned-cyborg and @skyyknights but no pressure! And if you've been tagged already that's all right, you can ignore this. ❄️ Over the Edge (Original Work) This is the tale of an illustrious creature residing in a high tower—and the secret of the broken, bloodied bones scattered about the dungeon floor. 🦋 I'm Coming After You (Robots in Disguise 2015) Why is there a sparkling on the prison ship Alchemor? How will Lieutenant Bumblebee fare when said sparkling interferes with his work in capturing dangerous Decepticons at large? Where is Steeljaw's new base, and what in the Allspark is he plotting now? Bumblebee would also like to know.... ⚔️ When Push Comes to Shove (Hyrule Warriors) Link and Zelda return to the Temple of the Sacred Sword to seal away the darkness, and Link is forced to face his insecurities, whether he's ready for it or not. 🐝 To Bee a Leader (Robots in Disguise 2015) Bumblebee knows that Optimus Prime chose him to be leader of the Autobot team on Earth…but he's tired and he misses his dad.
🐺 Enduring the Twilight (Twilight Princess) As regrets from his past failures haunt him, Link finds an unexpected counselor—and ally—in a mysterious golden wolf who regularly crosses his path. 🍃 Deku Tree Link AU (OoT Canon Divergent) When the future Hero of Time was adopted by the Great Deku Tree, he inherited more than a home and a family among the Kokiri—he also received the Great Deku Tree's abilities, as well as the mantle of Guardian of the Forest. 🎭 When the Dust Settles (Miraculous Ladybug Apocalypse!AU) Paris has fallen. Two survivors roam the wreckage, spared only by the Miraculous they themselves carry. 🪽 Under My Wings (Transformers: Prime) Arcee never wished to join Team Prime. Optimus never planned to raise a sparkling during the war. Bumblebee never meant to change the course of history. The road ahead of them is not at all what they expected.... 🧣 All I Am (Skyward-Sword-and-Hyrule-Historia-manga-inspired) The captain of the Knights of Hylia has been tasked with holding back the demon king’s forces. Aware that he is out of his league, Link struggles with coming to terms with the gravity of this command. Fortunately, Hylia is watching out for him. 🌙 Moonquake WIP (Original Work) Kaya is tired of the power going out. Tarka Sevan seeks a light from beyond. ❤️🔥 Tripled Threats (Transformers Crossover) Three road-raging warriors and one cheerful ray of sunshine share what is perhaps the strangest plot twist of their lives. 🥠 Sandwiched (Age of Extinction) Bitter from the battle of Chicago, Optimus Prime holds strong opinions about humanity's profane treatment of his people. Trapped by convention with a group of humans, in addition to another equally unwanted ally, the Autobot leader turned war criminal is forced to consider the deepest truths of life...even that which he has been running from for ages untold. 🏴☠️ Overboard one (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) On the voyage to Far, Far Away, Kitty falls into the sea. 😇 [The smile one] (Rise of the Beasts) Mirage points out something that Bumblebee can never forget. 🧵 [It's Official] (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) Puss and Kitty don't appreciate how stinky Perrito's sock has become over their long voyage, and plot to expand his wardrobe. 🌌 [Fire Emblem Megafic] (Three Houses / Three Hopes / more) Two new professors arrive at the Officer's Academy—and the fate of the World is forever changed. A single crack in a castle of glass is enough to shatter the structure of time...now imagine what one could do with two.... ...this isn't all of my WIP's, of course. :D But, these are the ones I'm either in-the-zone-working-on right now, or I'm gearing up to get back into, so ask away! ✨

As a sort of follow up to my Echoes of Wisdom timeline placement theory, here are some general thoughts on the game (major spoilers):
Null's powers are aesthetically very similar to Ganon(dorf)'s powers in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Rifts in particular are visually very similar to Gloom. Furthermore there are the clawed hands coming out of black portals. And as a bonus point: The Floormasters in Wind Waker look also just like that. — This all suggests to me that Ganon(dorf)'s powers are of the same nature as Null's.
Furthermore, no one seems to have ever seen Ganon before, but also Null is able to create an Echo of Ganon. So Null knows Ganon, but the people of Hyrule don't.
Skyward Sword features a place called the Silent Realm, despite the similar name it doesn't really seem to have any relation to the Silent World.
The fact that the only Goddess statue found in the game is found in a storage room suggests to me that folks have forgotten about Hylia, and that worship of her has dwindled.
The visual design of Link's weapons is very similar to Zonai aesthetics from TOTK, though more blue than teal. Are they possibly Zonai artifacts? Are Might Crystals related to Zonaite?
The statues found at the fortress east of Hyrule Castle (the one swarming with Moblins where you first fight Smog) are quite similar in style to the statues found all over the Depths in TOTK.
Even though the Deku Tree and the Eternal Forest show up, there is no sign or mention of either the Kokiri or the Koroks.
The map is very similar to A Link to the Past.
The Gorons live at Eldin Mountain, not Death Mountain.
Where is the Master Sword?

Finally finished this sketch page Ive been working on for so long- comentary under the cut. This will include spoilers for the depths
Link's right arm is infected by gloom, makeing me think it is difficult to impossible for him to move it. I have some ideas for gloom abilities for him but those are gonna be costly and not his perfered method of anything save for emergencies. Since hes effectively one armed now I needed him to have more mobility options- this includes
Korok frond- reward for saveing the great deku tree, lifts him up a fixed hight and allows him to glide gently down in any direction
Stalhorse- exactly what it says on the tin, with the added bonus of following link around while he isnt rideing it for easier resource collection and remounting.
In a second sketch page I'll also be adding the clawshot and pegasus boots from previous games and working out how hed get a hold of those to give him more vertical mobility since climbing one armed without a rope is super hard.
When link is attacked by gloom he also loses all but 3 hearts and 1 stamina wheele, makeing combat Incredibly Risky. He also only has one arm, makeing stronger 2 handed weapons unable to be weilded. He can't draw a bow and though he can shoot a crossbow reloading it would require him brace it against the ground, makeing it a time costly item. Instead of any of that I've given him
A sling- he fashions this out of rope he spins with fibers he finds and scraps of fabric from his clothes. With it he can launch various chu jellys, bomb flowers muddle buds and puffshrooms, as well as any old pebble he finds lying around. A refrennce to the slingshot which is a familiar key item from other games.
An atlatl- somewhere between a throughing spear and an arrow lye the darts of an atlatl. He carves it from wood found in the depths and can fashion the darts from lone thin sticks, tying the feathered leaves to the back and lodgeing a sharp stone to the end. This is something of an upgrade to the sling since it has longer reach and higher damage, but darts are costly to make and tying add ons to them must be done before combat because link doesn't have the fuse ability
Im also planning on a return of the power bracelets to allow him to weild two handed weapons one handed, among other things, and the beetle from skyward sword to give more vertical exploration and control in bombing enemies.
Furthermore I have plans for both zelda and rauru, as well as the yiga clan, so stay tuned for when I end up comiting them to paper! Im planing on makeing this something similar to a proper RoleSwap!AU once I work out the kinks- sorry that this is kind of growing past the original prompt =w='
#tears of the kingdom#totk spoilers#my art#Ill come up with an interesting name for this story I swear#Since itll be written from zeldas pov as a role swap im sure itll come to me while i design her#Planning 2 more pages for link#1 will be about returning key items#The other about his gloom hand and the yiga#Then ill be digging into how zelda and rauru will fit into this#I also have 2 other unrelated art pieces planned#And payed work to do#Oi now... so much work to do... please be patient with me...

Saria, Hilda, Mipha, Zelda, Link, in a relationship with S/O who talks to animals. (Link and Zelda from Skyward Sword)
S/O talks to animals
[ HEADCANONS ] [ Saria, Hilda, Mipha, Zelda, Link ]
[ Ocarina of Time ] [ A Link Between Worlds ] [ Breath of the Wild ] [ Skyword Sword ]
I remember that when I was toddler I always wanted to be able to talk to animals and I still think that it could be awesome to do so!!
Saria
Saria is always so caring and loving with you, and even for being a Kokiri she is pretty mature as well and that is reflected in your relationship, although she can be pretty childish and prankster when she want to
For being a Kokiri you had your own fairy so it isn't too strange to see you talking to them, as well being a Kokiri means being like a child forever with all that childish ilusion and imagination so it won't be too weird seeing you talk to animals either
Without even knowing that you can actually talk to animals when she noticed that you do it she start doing it too, although when you admit to her that you can actually understand what the animals say she is surprised
Saria is amazed for your hability and always encoure you to use it. If you feel insecure or prefer to keep it as a secret she respect your wish but try to reasure you that you have nothing to fear, the others Kokiris will find it amaizing too, although she will ask your permission to at least tell Link about it since he is a really good friend of her (and probably yours too)
She always ask you about what you talk with animals because she is really curious and she loves seeing you so happy talking about it, she find it pretty cute and sometimes she give you a small and sweet kiss on the cheek, giggling at your reaction
Saria always invite you to go where the Great Deku Tree to play and search for animals (she always says that is to go and find new friends), and anytime you go there she always holds your hand on the way. Also, she will like to invite Link with you too but she will only do it if you don't have any problem with it
Hilda
It may doesn't seem like it but Hilda is really caring and she is really happy to have you by her side, having to lead and look after Lyrule isn't easy but knowing that she has you make it more bearable
Ravio and you are one of her biggest motivation as well anytime she need to relax she goes to spend time with you two, you always manage to make her day better
She may doesn't discover your hability for a while since she is usually busy with other things, so is more probably that Ravio discover it first and he ends up telling Hilda about it. Still, the first time she saw you talking to an animal more than find it strange she is worried, Lyrule it could be a pretty dangerous a times so she is more worried that something could happen to you
She will ask you out of worry so the moment you tell her that you can actually talk to animals it took her a moment to process and fully understand what you tell her, is just that is something she never expected. As well, if is Ravio who tell her about your hability she won't believe him at first and think that he is just trying to mess with her, it isn't going to be until you show her that you can talk to animals that she finally accept it
Hilda thinks is something curious, still she doesn't pry much on, just maybe asking about it if it had brought you problems or if is something you want to hide, she doesn't want to ask much, specially if is something you prefer to hide. As well, she isn't going to judge you for it, is your hability and you should enjoy it
She doesn't express it out loud but she find it pretty cute, every time she sees you happily talking to an animal, big or small, she always smiles sweetly without a fail, it comfort her seeing you so happy and remember her why she is working so hard for her kingdom. Also, Ravio find it pretty interesting and funny so is probably that he spend some time just asking you what some animals are saying (sometimes he ask about Sheerow too), making you and Hilda laugh in the process for how excited he seems
Once Link and Zelda help them retrieve the triforce and Hilda has the opportunity to relax more since Lyrure isn't in constant misfortunes she will finally give her the chance to know more about your hability as well as being more curious about the animals and what you talk with them
Mipha
Mipha is really sweet and caring, being in a relationship with you already flustered her but even when she is pretty shy she doesn't has much problem with overcoming her shyness (mainly because she is the leader of the Zora)
Mipha loves you with all her heart and discovering more little quirk of yours is always heart warming for her, so just seeing you being close to animals already make her heart feel warm and always bring a smile to her lips
When she noticed that you talk to animals she felt really fuzzy, finding it pretty cute, still she thought that it was an habit of yours but when you tell her that you actually can talk to them and understand them she is dumbfounded, it isn't like she doesn't believe you is just that is a little shocking, and when you prove it to her she quickly get amazed by your hability
Since she is most of the time busy in the Zora Kingdom she likes to hearing your stories about other animals you met outside of the kingdom and whenever she had the opportunity to go out with you she don't mind if you end up talking to an animal
She likes seeing you talking to animals, everytime she sees you her heart feels melt and takes a moment to appreciate it, as well she tries to never interrupt you but if you include her (like including her in your conversation or telling her what is they telling you) it flustered and flattered her a lot
Also, if you prefer to keep it as a secret she will ask you why since she thinks a really cute hability just because the words had slip her lips, she apologize though. It doesn't matter your reason she will respect your wish and doesn't say to anyone, also she doesn't say it out loud but is flattering for her that you let her know about this and that you show it to her
As well she will stand up for you if anyone say something bad about you, she isn't the bravest person but she tries, besides no one will like to have problems with the leader and champion of the Zora Kingdom
If you ever make a joke about your hability and the Zoras she will just awkwardly laugh, she doesn't like it at all but she doesn't want to say it either
Zelda
Zelda is a little prankster and never lose an opportunity to tease you but despite everything you know that she love and care for you nonetheless, she express it in different ways but whenever she say it in a more serious way she get a little shy and blushy
If you seem to love animals she already finds it cute, and at some point she will notice that you talk to animals even if you don't tell her, still at first she will think that is just an habit of yours, and she find it both cute and funny
It doesn't matter too much if you tell her directly that you can talk to animals or not, she doesn't really believe it at first and be a little sarcastic about it, specially if you say it to her directly, in the other hand if she just catch you talking to an animal she will ask you what are they saying jokinly, either way it won't take her long to accept that you can talk to animals (specially after you show it to her)
As well, it would take her a while to get used to it but she find it pretty cute, anytime she sees you talking to an animal she giggle at it and sometimes she ask you what you were talking about. Also, she will start to talk to her Loftwing more often and ask you what they said sometimes
If you prefer to keep it as a secret she promise to don't tell anyone about it, not even to Link if that is what you prefer it that way (still she will insist that him is of her total trust)
Zelda find it interesting, she will never judge for it or think that you are a weirdo, also she will never let anyone say something bad about you for your hability (and not just for that) she can be pretty intimidating when she wants to and is always the first to stand up for you to whoever, even if someone was just looking at you in a bad way she stare at them until they feel uncomfortable or even ashame, specially if you feel insecure of your hability
Speaking of, if you actually feel ashame or insecure of your hability and that is why you prefer to keep it as a secret she is quickly to reasure you that there is nothing wrong with you, at the end she will help you to love your hability as much as she loves you
Link
Link isn't exactly shy he is more like lovestruck, he is a really good of definition of young man in love, even before start dating his crush on you were a little obvious (specially to Zelda since she knows him too well)
He really is amazed by every little quirk of you and you always manage to surprise him anytime he learn something new about you
He probably get to know that you can talk to animals even before start dating and he find it pretty cute too. The first time he saw you talking to an animal he thought that it was because you like doing it, it isn't too strange to talk to animals or even inanimate objects so he doesn't think much of it and he doesn't pry much either, specially if is something you prefer to hide. That is why when you tell him that you actually can understand what the animals say he is dumbfounded, he ask you twice just in case he missheard you
He is really surprised of that hability of your as well as really curious, but he will never say that is strange or call you a weirdo, he find it pretty cool and has no problem with say it to you (but probably with a blush on his cheeks). Then again, if is something that you prefer to hide or keep it as a secret he will be respect your wish and keep it as a secret
He is really curious about your hability and he may pry as long as it doesn't make you uncomfortable, if you let him he will ask a lot of things, how you discovered, if there is a reason of why you had it, if it has limitations, he is just really curious
As well everytime he sees talking to an animal he always take a moment to apreciate it, no matter how much time it pass he always find it cute and always stare at you with a sweet smile, if you catch him staring at you he will try to come up with an excuse really flustered. Also he tend to always ask you what the animals say to you, really curious about what you talk with them
Link end up getting used to talk to animals too, he can't understand them but that doesn't stop him to smile and say hello to every little animal that cross his path, again he isn't trying to make fun of you
When he start his mission as the Hero chosen by the goddess he will have to spend a lot of time away so every time sees an animal (and the Kikwi too, he thinks you will like them) it remind him to you

My Thoughts on the Zelda Timeline and Tears of the Kingdom
Given how the Imprisoning War mentioned in Tears of the Kingdom contradicts the one mentioned in the prolouge of Link to the Past, Rauru and Sonia forming the Kingdom of Hyrule and being the first King and Queen (despite Ocarina of Time coming before) and the Ganondorf in this game seemingly having no recollection of past Links/Heroes and Zeldas or connection to the Ganondorf of past games...it's my guess that they reset the series lore starting with Breath of the Wild and the ten thousand years between it and the era of Myth.
youtube
The only other game that stills seems to have any relevant unchanged and non-contradicted canon seems to be Skyward Sword but that's mostly due to it being a starting point, the game's director being the same as BOTW and TOTK, and the Forgotten Temple. Honestly it seems like that because they reintroduced and make allusions to key moments and figures in the series in this game like the Sages (particularly King Rauru) and Imprisoning War from LttP, and Ganondorf and him being welcomed by the King and distrusted by Zelda like he was in Ocarina of Time. I should also point out that the original Imprisoning War happens right before the Fallen Timeline which takes place after OoT, and in that Ganondorf has permanently transformed into pig Ganon after killing Time Link and attaining the full Triforce.
There are too many timeline contradictions yet intentional references in the game's story to past games that it seems like a reboot is the most credible idea.
However at the same time, there are too many connections to previous games that take place after Skyward Sword that even the idea of a series reboot is questionable like the Temple of Time, old OoT Castle Town ruins, the sages from OoT being referenced by the stones surrounding the Master Sword and the Sheikah monks' poses during the Master Sword Trials, the Koroks and Deku Tree, the mural about Ruto's love for Time Link, Rauru sharing the name of one of the sages from OoT, and Darmani. Also, what are the chances of there being another event in Zelda lore referred to as the Imprisoning War that involves an incarnation of Ganon, sages, sealing Ganon, and one of the sages being named Rauru like the Sage of Light?
link to image: x
Are the games during the Era of Myth just that, mythology? Fairy tales? Is there even a Triforce anymore? The symbol is shown but its not referred to as such and Ganondorf in this game shows no interest or knowledge of the Triforce like every other character. On the opposite end of this is Skyward Sword which they reinforce is connected to the latest games with Fi, the Forgotten Temple and Sealed Temple connections, the tree growing out the wall and the fact the Hylia statue gives you the Goddess Sword:
It's so weird everytime Tears of the Kingdom's story made a reference to past games (that aren't Skyward Sword), when you think they are trying to connect them (like I initially thought), it turns around and makes it self-contained and isolated incident exclusive from any game that came before BOTW and Skyward Sword. With all the trouble Nintendo's had making sense of and reworking the Zelda timeline the past few decades for the fans and the success of Breath of the Wild, may be they wanted to wipe the slate clean (with Skyward Sword being the start of that initiative).
At first maybe they were hesistant which is why they stated the timelines converge into BOTW, but I guess they decided during TOTK's development or before and, again, may be due to the massive success of BOTW they just said screw it and just do it with the latest game's story showing the beginning of the Kingdom of Hyrule. These are just my messy thoughts based on my basic understanding of the timeline and theories I've heard and I welcome any other explanations.
EDIT(6/19/23)
So it's been brought to my attention that the Imprisoning War in TOTK may possibly be a second Imprisoning War (thanks @ghoul--chan ). The implications and can of worms that opens is shocking. Since Zelda was transported to the beginning of Hyrule as a kingdom and the start of the Royal Family, that would mean that she was transported to before Minish Cap. If that is true...dear goddess.... that would mean the Ganondorf in this game is one that existed before Ocarina of Time.
That also implies that two incarnations of Ganondorf had been somehow co-existing at the same time during the Era of Myth with one being sealed underground. This also mean that the Imprisoning War in Link to the Past is now retroactively a callback to this hypothetical first Imprisoning War; both involve sages, both involve a sage of Light named Rauru, and both involve sealing an incarnation of Ganon. Also, this means the Rito existed before Wind Waker making this mural from Twilight Princess HD reference to that!!

Phantom Ganon, Skull Kid, Hero's Shade (I need to stop writing about Zelda, but the floodgates are open)
What do these three characters have in common? They are all Link64's best and only friend. Though, he didn't know it at the time.
Remember the mask quest and playing ocarina with the skull kids in the woods? The same woods where it's legend that people become stalfos, so Kokiri don't travel there.
He's kind of rude to Link64. But here's the sad part, unlike the Kokiri, The skull kids don't exist in the future, even though the stalfos do. (Nor the Stalchilds which stalk Link outside of the woods, which could be *interpreted* as death stalking Link from the very beginning. OR it could be interpreted as his friends tagging along. [Who're kind of rude, and annoying. But they don't know better.])
Skull Kid, the Z64 Skull Kid, the one you trade masks with, the one you teach scarecrow's song to. That one, I think Becomes phantom Ganon. Because he was bound to Ganon when he passed through the woods and installed a Gohma into the Deku Tree. And was chosen specifically (like the other temple Bosses) to grow into the temple protectors.
Watch the defeat of Phantom Ganon. It's incredibly sad, even the words he chooses to speak during his death are incredibly sad. And this, I think is why.
He encourages Link to defeat Ganon, and admits that he was just a stepping stone, but he never takes off his mask, and he does his best not to let Link know the truth about his friend.
(Shout out to the Painting Magic being connected to a link between worlds. Cool connection and decision to use that idea in the game.)
*But Link is the Hero's Shade*! You are definitely screaming. Because it was written in the Hyrule Historia. Even if all the rest of that is true. The Hero's Shade connection is dumb.
Evidence; Koroks can change their appearance. Like the Tanuki in Japanese Lore. If they are Kokiri, (Like the connection to the Deku Tree suggests) AND One of the Deku Trees is likely the incarnation of the Kikwi elder from Skyward Sword (Which is as close as we get to Tanuki in Zelda.) Then it stands to reason the stal children AND the Skull Kids can all be directly related to the Kokiri.
And that the warning that *children become stalfos* for the Kokiri wasn't for Link, but for the Kokiri. (Or just a silly reminder for Link that he is never alone, because the Kokiri follow along as stalchild)
*BUT HOW DOES THAT MAKE SKULL KID THE HERO'S SHADE?*
Who else would both be *still alive* and *a skeleton* to teach Link, if Link is a reincarnation, and his soul stays with him? *That is the divine lore, Zelda, Link, and Ganon always have the same Soul*
Or do they? Am I making an assumption here? I'm not quite certain anymore, but I feel like I'm probably on the right track.
The alternate reasoning is that Rauru the Owl is *also* a former Link. Since they both share that same *mentor* slot. But that's never explicitly stated like it is with the Hero's Shade.
Think about it; no Link carries the gear the Shade does. No Link fights like a stalfos, even though they serve to train him early on. And therefore, all the stalfos (and by extension; Poes) could have served to be training Link the way forward.
One more reason; in Z64, the only place we see wolfos is in the woods. And that's how Wolfos and Stalfos are *linked*.
-OR- *maybe* the Hero's Shade is Link, in the same way Shadow Link is Link.
It's also worth noting, that Sometimes Stalfos are directly ordered by Ganon to Kill Link , and other times, such as in skyward sword guardians and Phantom Hourglass, they're controlled to protect something important, or divine relics.
Which links explicitly to what I just said, and why Phantom Ganon could *in fact* be the Hero's Shade.
Don't take my word for it.

Eva's epic Zelda therory omgggg
OKAY SO IM KINDA SLEEP DEPRIVED AND ITS A BIT LATE AND IM HUNGRY ALSO IVE LEGIT NEVER DONE THIS BUT HERE WEEE GOOO
Why I think TotK's past happens BEFORE Skyward Sword
Okay so let's get Goddess Hylia out of the way. I don't believe she's a Goddess in the sense that she was all powerful blah blah blah
Because, really, what did she do ?
Elevate the islands -> Mineru did that. Even with more and bigger islands so... Hylia isn't special
Light and sealing powers -> Rauru and Sonia has light powers too
Built robots -> Which race seems to be extremely skilled in building constructs and give them a near human artificial intelligence ?
Reincarnation -> Spirit power. If Mineru could transfer her soul to a fake body, I don't think it's far fetched that someone with a similar power could voluntarily reincarnate themselves at the cost of their memories (weird, that reminds me of another ritual)
So Hylia was probably a VERY powerful priestess, maybe even a Zonai that made her elevate to the state of a Goddess, and for the reason she wouldn't use the Triforce, Zonais are descendants of the Gods, making them Gods in some way, so technically she would still be forbidden of using it
Okay with that out of the way:
The Master Sword. There is no Master Sword during Rauru's time. If it did exist I THINK Mineru would be aware. But she seems surprised of its existence (I am basing myself on the French version of the game in which she says "It wounded him you say? When our combined powers weren't enough..." and not the trash garbage English version. Sorry English speakers). Anyway, the Master Sword didn't exist, even Ganondorf seemed to be surprised that it would exist.
And also, the sword Hylia created technically wasn't super extraordinary. The sword Hylia left behind is a blade built to be the perfect VESSEL for Divine Power. (Link in SwS had to bathe the blade in the flames of the Golden Goddesses before getting a final blessing of Light, in the start of SwS, the Master Sword really isn't that great, hell it's even mocked for its short blade)
And so I believe Demise is a sort of Calamity situation. Because if the TotK Ganondorf is supposed to come AFTER how could he destroy the Master Sword so easily ?
"Oh but Eva the Master Sword was weakened !" Shut up Billy, the Great Deku Tree specifies that the Master Sword can regenerate and recover the current maximum stength it has and in the memory in which Link gets it back he confirms that the sword is ready to be taken again. It's not the Master Sword that got weakened. It's Ganondorf that was overly powerful.
Back to Skyward Sword, if Hyrule didn't exist, explain Impa, explain the ruins we find. The Temple of Time bears a strange ressemblance to the Ancient Temple in BotW/TotK
"But Eva ! The placement makes no sense !" since when is LoZ making sense with geographical placements.
As to explain why Ganondorf appear in OoT, TP, WW etc... I believe this is a reincarnation of THE Ganondorf. Considered he was raised by Koume and Kotake, evil witches, I believe that when the 100 years mark came for the Gerudos, they made some sort of pact or ritual so that Ganondorf's soul could reincarnate. Because Rauru only managed to seal his body, his soul could still exist (Calamity Ganon) so what if he experimented? He first created a Demon, Demise, except he realized that while it gives him a lot of power, this also makes him vulnerable to other things Then he reincarnated in the flesh, but it also ended up getting killed So in Calamity form he decides to use his raw soul and build himself a body, which failed BUT weakened the seal enough for his true body to be freed. That's the theory and headcanon I keep. Anyway this is all over the place and I probably forgot a lot of details but here's my theory, if you have questions, my asks are open !

alright fuck it... here’s my BOTW/TOTK timeline theory
(full spoilers for BOTW/TOTK do not proceed without beating the games)
okay, so the first thing i want to mention is that i don’t believe BOTW/TOTK fits within any timeline or at the bottom of the 3. i think this is a trilogy, the first game being Skyward Sword.
here’s my explanation:
Hyrule was yet to be founded at the start of SS. we start off on the island of skyloft, which has a very similar appearance of the great sky island we wake up on in TOTK. and it has been shown that if you flip skyloft upside down, it will be similar to the great sky island.
by the end of SS, we have visited several areas which are very similar in placement to the map we see in BOTW/TOTK. the eldin, the faron, and lanayru regions. Eldin being the home of death mountain, faron being the water/forest region similar to what it is in BOTW/TOTK, and lanayru being a desert area very similar to the layout of what we know as the gerudo desert. the rest of SS map is blank, bc theoretically, they have gone unexplored. it should also go unsaid that over 10k years, there is bound to be a geographical shift, creating different valleys, mountains, hills, barrens, etc. so while it looks slightly off, with that in mind, what we find in BOTW/TOTK map does make sense.
plus, we don’t actually see sky era Link and Zelda found Hyrule, just that they have found the surface and plan on bringing their people down from the sky. we also never see how long each era of hero/princess live, but since usually 100 years pass between each new hero being born, there is roughly 80-100 years if not more unaccounted for. we also don’t know by the end of SS if there are other sky islands, bc if there’s one, then there is probably others. possibly one’s with Zonai, bc we find by the end of TOTK that the last few remaining descended to the surface, probably not long after Link and Zelda of the sky era.
however, since we do know that Rauru and Sonia are officially the first king and queen of hyrule, that obviously would be contradicting if Link and Zelda did, so that would mean that within the sky era, they were not able to found the kingdom and possibly passed away shortly before the Zonai descended because we find out that Sonia was a priestess of the world (bc there wouldn’t have been a queen or king in that case) and together with their powers, zonai constructs etc they were able to build the castle, the forgotten temple, zonai ruins (possibly even after what happened after rauru and sonia’s deaths) built the kingdom based upon the finding of sky era Link and Zelda.
they are not aware however of the master sword, bc since the kingdom is just being founded, they do not know it exists until Zelda travels back in time to mention it. from this point, the master sword would have likely been moved to a safer place (now known as the lost woods to be looked over by the great deku tree)
which brings me to my next point, the ancient hero. now, i know that it is being theorized that rauru and sonia must’ve had a daughter bc of when sonia tells zelda “i sense that we share a blood connection”. but i think that is being read too much into. bc every incarnation of zelda is of the goddess hylia, which would be more of a spiritual connection... but i don’t think by saying “blood connection” is wrong even if they did not have a child. also zelda’s mother in BOTW was not a goddess descendant. plus, that would invalidate the ancient hero, who is very clearly half hylian/half zonai based upon the ancient hero’s aspect, which shows this. also it would say that Link and Zelda are brother/sister, which isn’t true. because rauru would be the chosen hero of that time, so the ancient hero could not awaken until after his death.
this is when ganondorf becomes the demon king, after demise promised would be born time and time again along with each new hero and princess, which we have seen previously throughout older iterations. through rauru, who imprisons him away and binds his magic, the calamity, is a mere mirage of the power he still contains attempting to undo his seal so he can bring chaos upon Hyrule again. the first time we see the calamity is through the ancient hero, who seemingly is using the master sword, which would have been found after Zelda mentioned it to Rauru and word passed down through the sage’s (who i also believe the divine beasts are named after). the first calamity is able to be sealed away, as it has numerous times until the events of BOTW.
so, the events of BOTW and TOTK play out and that’s where the story for this ends.
now, let’s address the other games. because there is a huge implication of other domains and worlds existing by the mention of it, through a character named Yona, who says she traveled from another domain, which would mean that there are other worlds. possibly with their own heroes and princesses, bc throughout TOTK we find armor that can be obtained from previous games and locations from those games as well, which, i mostly believe is just nintendo being nostalgic and wanting to honor those games, not exactly saying that they exist in this timeline.
but what if they do? what if through other kingdoms, or universes, those events all did happen and they have either been brought to us from those who have traveled from other worlds and/or universes. because at the end of the day, it is called the legend of zelda for a reason. a legend does not exactly mean it happened, but these armors and locations say, yes, they did happen and here is the proof they did. but possibly just not in this time.
we always assume that only one hero and princess can be alive at once, which, i personally believe to be true, but what if it’s not? we know that TOTK, no other male gerudos have been born because ganondorf is still alive, but that doesn’t mean that demise couldn’t attempt to reincarnate himself through ganondorf in another kingdom or universe. with the power that we saw demise carry, he would be capable of doing so, so why not? why could these games not all occur at the same time other ones?
(also there is the theory of the dragons in BOTW/TOTK, which has been almost basically proven to be zonai who swallowed secret stones bc how else would mineru know about it? but the zonai were also believed to be gods, so... what if they were and that’s how we got our dragons?)
let me know your own thoughts!

LoZ - The Wild Series is an Inevitable Event at the End of All 3 Timelines
I just realized something. The time of legends that the Zonai lived in Hyrule for, had to have taken place after not only Skyward Sword, but also Twilight Princess/Spirit Tracks/Adventure of Link.
One major reason being that the Great Plateau was in the same place in TotK's past as it was in BotW & TotK's Present.
Like, you can literally see it in TotK's 6th Tear Memory. And you know that it's in the same exact place because Ganondorf is standing on the East Gerudo Mesa & facing north northwest. Directly in the direction of the Great Plateau in the present.
However, we can assume that it wasn't always there. Having likely instead been in the Woodland area, right where the Great Hyrule Forest is now, as the bog has nearly the exact same shape as the Great Plateau. The Great Plateau being the sight of not only OoT's Castle Town, but its Hyrule Castle. However, as is, both are oriented wrong. As in, upside down.
And we know this because OoT's map also had a compass rose &, just like in BotW/TotK, Castle Town was located north & the Gerudo Desert was located west.
However, if one were to enter the remains of OoT's Castle Town, you would be entering it from the north, which would mean that the desert should be to the east, but that isn't what we see.
The desert remains west.
Meaning that, either the entirety of the Gerudo Desert swapped sides or the Plateau has been relocated & spun around. And on a scale of things that are impossible, the Plateau being moved seems just that little bit less so.
However, we can't be sure whether the switch was a result of pure magic or megi-tech.
Either way, if this is the case, then OoT's map would've much more readily fit within the Wild Series' map.
The fact that it remains in the same place as the present even 10,000 years before, suggests that whatever switched the forest & Plateau 100% happened before Rauru refounded Hyrule.
In fact, another thing we see in the 6th Tear Memory is the second reason, which is the fact that all the Gerudo except for Ganondorf all have pointed ears while the ones from OoT don't. Creating a Champion even addresses this & says that the ancient Gerudo had rounded ears.
Third reason being the presence of both the Zora & Rito as major parts of the story.
It has to be after Skyward Sword, period, due to the absence of the Zora. Now whether you subscribe to the theory that the Parella or the Tadtones are the ancient ancestors of the Zora is irrelevant. The point is, the Zora themselves are not present.
And the Zonai could only have appeared after Four Swords Adventure/Spirit Tracks/Adventure of Link due to the Rito being present during Rauru's reign. (Possibly even Hyrule Warriors if you wanna consider it canon adjacent. It'd certainly work as a way to fuse the 3 timelines back together. And it's possible that New Hyrule is still out there & inhabited by Spirit Tracks' Link & Zelda's ancestors.)
Therefore, this lends credence to the theory that Rauru wasn't actually the first king of Hyrule, so much as the first king of Hyrule since the last of many, many, many massive near apocalypses in Hyrule's long fucking history.
Nintendo outright saying that the game happens so far into the future that all the other games are considered myth & legend confirms this. As a result, it's likely that Rauru named his kingdom after the Hyrule of legend & most likely truly believes that he was the first king of Hyrule because of this.
I think that Hyrule was likely destroyed once more after the Adventure of Link. To such a degree, in fact, that not only was the monarchy destroyed & the Hyruleans were basically back to square one as a race again, but the Gorons retreated underground to Gorondia. After which, the Zonai appeared, & Hyrule was refounded.
Something else to remember is that, in the Child Timeline, the Deku Tree stated that the reason he was having the Koroks plant trees all over the Great Sea was in an attempt to reconnect the land, thereby rebuilding Hyrule on top of the old one. And keep in mind that Tetra left the Great Sea to found a new kingdom. Meaning that the area where this reconstructed Hyrule would be had no defined power structure, let alone a monoarchy.
Also, the past events of TotK happened around 10,000 years ago with the first Calamity depicted on Impa's screen (I hc as having been) around 100 years later. That Zelda having been the daughter of Rauru & Sonia (we don't actually know how long Zonai can live) & the red-headed Zonai known as the Ancient Hero being a Link.
Personally, I believe that he was actually the next Gerudo male to be born, as Urbosa only said that there have been no male leaders of the Gerudo since Ganondorf, which means that those males might've simply not been made leaders of the Gerudo.
I'm saying that these Voe ARE being born, but due to the 2-4 previous Ganondorfs, there is a systemic misandrony within Gerudo culture that leads to mothers either not returning to the desert upon birthing voe in the best case, & either abandoning the voe or outright killing them at worst.
TotK's Ganondorf also has to be a different one as OoT's remastered Ganondorf after 7 years, TP's Ganondorf, & WW's Ganondorf all had pointed ears, while TotK Ganondorf has rounded ones. Meaning he most likely doesn't have the Triforce of Power, which is likely what initially made the 1st Ganondorf's ears become pointed, which you can see after OoT Link's 7 year nap.
Same with HW Ganondorf, who also possessed the Triforce of Power. Which he's been able to keep the Triforce over multiple lifetimes & through resurrections.
Anyway, my thoughts are that the Ancient Hero lived in a small Hylian village with his father at least & thus grew up Hylian. Then, when he was discovered to be the Legendary Hero, at some point he got his hands on a Majora's Mask-style Zonai Mask that turned him into a Zonai.
If not that, then he was possibly half-Gerudo, half-Zonai.
Not to mention, the Sheikah technology of the time having been the Sheikah's adaptation & expansion of the Zonai tech, but with a different power source & material.
It's possible that due to not being made with Zonaite, it allowed these machines to be much more long-lasting than the Zonai's tech.

The titles of Link
In the lore of the The Legend of Zelda series, there are various incarnations of Link, some of which have gone by specific titles. However, I have noticed there is a bit of misinformation surrounding the titles of these Links, mostly from this Game Theory video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5n5zZDsUffs. The video gives the following titles to each Link, based on the timeline in Hyrule Historia:
Skyward Sword: Chosen Hero
The Minish Cap: Hero of the Minish
Four Swords: N/A
Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask: Hero of Time
A Link to the Past/Oracle games/Link's Awakening: Hero of Legend
A Link Between Worlds: New Hero of Hyrule
The Legend of Zelda/Zelda II: The Adventure of Link: Hero of Hyrule
Twilight Princess: Hero of Twilight
Four Swords Adventures: Hero of Light
The Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass: Hero of Winds
Spirit Tracks: Hero of Trains
The video is already quite old, so the Links from Tri Force Heroes and Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom are not discussed in the video. Regardless of that, some of the titles given in the video do not exist in the games. This goes for the Hero of the Minish and the Hero of Trains. Neither the Link in The Minish Cap nor in Spirit Tracks are ever given specific titles in their respective games. In-fact, this goes for most Links in the series. Heroes with a title are the exception rather than the rule.
The most well-known exception has to be the Hero of Time, the Link from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The title predates this hero however, as it is mentioned in a prophetic legend passed down by the Sheikah that describes the events of Ocarina of Time:
When evil rules all, an awakening voice from the Sacred Realm will call those destined to be Sages, who dwell in the five temples. One in a deep forest... One on a high mountain... One under a vast lake... One within the house of the dead... One inside a goddess of the sand... Together with the Hero of Time, the awakened ones will bind the evil and return the light of peace to the world... This is the legend of the temples passed down by my people, the Sheikah.
After Link pulls out the Master Sword and sleeps for seven years, he is recognized as the Hero of Time and several people call him by the title. The inscription on the Spiritual Stone pedestal in the Temple of Time even changes to reflect this:
By the time of The Wind Waker, the Link from Ocarina of Time is considered a legendary figure who is only known as the Hero of Time. He is called as such many times throughout the games and the events of Ocarina of Time are passed down in legend and via a scroll.
The Wind Waker also features the other major Link with a consistent title. The Link of this game becomes known as the Hero of Winds after he obtains the Triforce of Courage. He is given this title by the King of Red Lions, perhaps to set him apart from the Hero of Time.
This is significant for The Wind Waker's story because in the timeline The Wind Waker is set, the Hero of Time is regarded as a legendary figure who can time travel and will appear whenever Ganondorf attacks. This is in-universe an incorrect assessment of the events of Ocarina of Time, but it does lead to the King of Red Lions and the spirits Jabun, Valoo and the Great Deku Tree to search for the Hero of Time, Link from Ocarina of Time. Jabun is initially somewhat dismissive of the new hero as a result for example.
Jabun: ツイニ オソレテイタコトガ ウゴキハジメタ ヨウダナ It seems that what we feared has begun.
KoRL: はい、あのガノンが蘇ったようです Yes, Ganon seems to have been revived.
Jabun: オマエガ ワタシニアイニキタトイウコトハ トキノユウシャヲ ミツケルコトガ デキタトイウコトダナ So does your having come to see me mean that you have found the Hero of Time?
KoRL: いえ、そうではありません No, I have not.
Jabun: デハ オマエハ ナニヲシニ ワタシニ アイニキタノダ Then why have you come to see me?
KoRL: 私が連れている この者は 伝説とは 無縁の者です ですが、この者の持つ勇気に 私は、可能性を感じました The one I have brought with me is unrelated to the legend, but I can feel potential in the courage he possesses.
Jabun: カノウセイ? ソノカノウセイトヤラニ ハイラルノ ウンメイヲ マカセヨウト イウノダナ Potential? Are you saying we should leave the fate of Hyrule up to this potential?
KoRL: はい Yes.
Jabun: ワカッ ソノモノノ ユウキガ シンノモノカ ドウカハ カミガ ハンダンスルデアロウ I understand. We should let the gods judge whether his courage is genuine or not. (Translation by jacensolo06 :http://forums.legendsalliance.com/topic/14202-translation-of-japanese-game-texts/page-27?p=404295#entry404295)
By the point that he has gotten the Triforce of Courage, Link from The Wind Waker has proven his worth beyond a doubt and so is granted his own title to set him apart from the Hero of Time. Despite this, this Link is not referred by his title in Phantom Hourglass (and he isn't mentioned at all in Spirit Tracks).
The third hero to receive a specific title is Link from Twilight Princess, but he did not get it in his own game. He would only get one in Breath of the Wild, where this Link is called by this title in the description of the Midna's Helmet headgear and in Misko's Diary where he describes the aforementioned headgear. The title is also mentioned in the description of Midna's Helmet in Tears of the Kingdom. The inclusion of this title in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom may have been influenced by popular Fanon around Twilight Princess, since it was also included in the Game Theory video (at which point the Link from Twilight Princess had never been given a title in-game).
The last hero who receives a title is the Link from the Oracle games. He is called the Hero of the Essences of Time and Nature, some times shortened to Hero of the Essences, after the main MacGuffins of the two Oracle titles. He receives this title from the titular Oracles in the Linked Ending of the games, after he has collected both the Essences of Time and the Essences of Nature. The title may also be tied to another prophetic legend alluded to throughout the Oracle games, similarly to the Hero of Time title. The legend is mentioned in relation to the gathering of both types of Essences, with the hero in it having a Triforce mark on his left hand and being guided by the Triforce itself. Over the course of the games, Link fullfills this prophecy:
Link... The three [triangle symbol] on your left hand symbolize power, wisdom and courage-- these are the mark of the hero who is fated to appear when peace crumbles in Hyrule. With the Essences of Nature and Time and the courage you possess, you have fought back the powers of evil! The guidance of the Triforce has made you into this legendary hero! Thank you, Link.
Other than these specific titles, there are also a few generic titles that have been shared by multiple Links (but Game Theory applied them to specific Links regardless). These are titles like the Hero of Hyrule or Chosen Hero (of the Gods/Goddesses) or Legendary Hero/Hero of Legend or Ancient Hero. See for example the Hero of Hyrule title, which is used for Link in the Legend of Zelda and A Link Between Worlds, and even the subject of a ceremony going that is about the hero in general in Breath of the Wild.
The Hero of Light is a title given to players in the multiplayer mode of Hyrulean Adventure (the main story campaign of Four Swords Adventures). It is given to the player who helped out the other players the most at the end of each stage. The same goes for the title Hero of Darkness, which is given to the most destructive player of that stage. So while the title exists, the Game Theory video does not take into account its context as a multiplayer-only title which does not exist within the story of the game. Of note is that the title "Hero of Light" is also used by the protagonist of BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets, though this protagonist is not a Link.
However, the Links we play as in the games are not the only Links in the lore. There have been other heroes in the backstory of the games, some of which have received their own titles. I believe the most well-known of these if the Hero of Men, who sealed away hordes of demons in the backstory of The Minish Cap. A more obscure one is the hero who drove away Vaati in the backstory of Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures, who is called the Four-Who-Are-One in the introduction of the latter game. This title is only used in the English version of Four Swords Adventures however and does not have an equivalent in Japanese, so I am not counting it. It is also not mentioned in other English tellings of this event in the manual of Four Swords or the manual of Four Swords Adventures.
勇者が剣をぬくと体が4つに分かれ 力を合わせて グフーを退治したといいます When the brave man pulls out his sword, his body is divided into four parts. And with their combined strength and together they defeated Gufu. (translated with DeepL)
After this, this post goes in a bit of detail about new elements introduced in Tears of the Kingdom. Spoilers follow.
The last instance of a backstory hero getting a title is the hero from 10.000 years before Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but he is somewhat of an outlier. In Breath of the Wild, his title of "ancient hero" is not capitalized and treated as a generic title. In certain instances of Tears of the Kingdom, it is capitalized however and treated as a title specific to him, separate from other ancient heroes who are described in the descriptions of items that reference previous games.
In Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom also, there are also outfits of Links from previous games that can be obtained. From the way these outfits are named, potential titles are implied, but they are never used in their respective games. They are the Hero of the Sky for Skyward Sword Link, Hero of the Wild for Breath of the Wild Link and Hero of Awakening for Link's Awakening Link. Personally, I would not use these as proper titles because they are never given as such.
I should say here that I do not subscribe to the timelines given in Hyrule Historia or The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia, which may be a topic for the future, but for this post it is only relevant to know I consider Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures to feature the same Link and I also follow the placement of the Oracles between A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening. The titles as given in the games for each Link are thus as follows, including backstory heroes.
Skyward Sword: N/A
Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask: Hero of Time
The Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass: Hero of Winds
Spirit Tracks: N/A
Tri Force Heroes: N/A
Twilight Princess: Hero of Twilight
The Minish Cap backstory: Hero of Men
The Minish Cap: N/A
Four Swords backstory: N/A
Four Swords/Four Swords Adventures: N/A
A Link to the Past/Oracle games/Link's Awakening: Hero of the Essences of Time and Nature (Hero of the Essences for short)
A Link Between Worlds: N/A
The Legend of Zelda/Zelda II: The Adventure of Link: N/A
Breath of the Wild backstory: Ancient Hero
Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom: N/A

*reading the Four Swords Manga to refresh myself after taking yet another break from the Minish Cap figurine hunt, does a double take and almost drops coffee mug*
So was anyone going to tell me Four is the only Link with at least one alive parent still around who actually did something , or was I just meant to find this out by myself when going on a Zelda binge in preparation for TOTK?
Like, this man is a knight that gets captured and brainwashed by Vaati, duels his son thinking he is Shadow, but manages to snap out of it by throwing a dagger at Vaati while disguised as Zelda. He tries to curb Four's reckless tendencies and to remind him not to rush headlong into situations without his allies and to keep a cool head, it's not much but let that sink in like holy mother of Farore-
He couldn't have know that Link was really himself, he couldn't have know that Vaati wasn't actually the princess, yet he actually takes the gamble because even if he is exasperated by his son and isn't around much he actually cares. Honestly it arguably may not be much and their relationship will likely have some strain due to the brainwashing deal but it's something.
Just, let that sink in. Four is shockingly lucky in that department so good on him, him, Twilight, Time and Legend were arguably the luckiest in the parental figure/role model department (if we count Sir Raven for the time he was around after Link's uncle is gone, which I am doing so by the way, Legend really looked up to him and he's his ancestor and actually very hands on with helping him in the Oracle of Ages manga, a rarity in Zelda in general really and his uncle was also really nice. The only one who was quite as lucky to have a parent/role model actually help a lot in the plot was Twilight, because Time's Deku Tree dies pretty early in during Ocarina of Time after raising him with the Kokiri before the quest and thus can't offer him support and is, ya know a tree, kind of limited in action there). Maybe Wind too if we count Linebeck (this man stabs Bellum for the kid even though he's terrified and is disgusted with himself after the brainwashing for attacking him, honestly props and respect to the sea rat), I think we can also count Spirit if he's around due to Alfonzo? Though I haven't played Spirit Tracks in a bit so I could be wrong. Anyway, he's pretty darn decent and involved in the plot rather than just shoving it onto the Link's shoulders for one reason or another (unlike SOME PEOPLE. *Side eyes Gaepora in Skyward Sword for doing the bare minimum even though his daughter is missing and he's implied to have raised Link/Sky with her, side eyes King of Red Lions, side eyes BOTW's King Rhoam because he really wasn't helpful at all to either Zelda or Link and only did the bare minimum for the later, side eyes OOT's king for not believing is own daughter until Link/Time was already traumatized by the events of the game and coming in to spill the tea, side eyes- actually no, Dot's/Minish Cap and Four Swords' Zelda's father is actually half decent.), They could form a little support group or something.
... Now I want a fic where the Chain actually meets the guy and just, gets a lot of whiplash that "Wait a second one of us is NOT an adopted orphan in some fashion?", That or he just immediately integrates himself as a secondary father figure for some of the Chain members, give Time a bit of a break for a change in wrangling these chaotic green clad menaces (affectionate), someone to bond with Rusl and we can know someone other than Twilight has a decent father figure still around. That or the bigger and arguably more comedic whiplash of meeting Sir Raven, who looks like a young Time with hints of Sky what with the cloak.
#loz#linked universe#link#lu chain#lu four#link's dad#rusl#Sir Raven#loz sir raven#Summer's Sleep Deprived Rants and Ramblings about Zelda/LU#let the links have good parental figures/role models in their lives that they trust and rely on#and who aren't willing to let them do everything all alone without barely nary a back up even if they can't do much#or so help me I'll do it myself

Sixth Playthrough of Tears of the Kingdom Done, Have my Thoughts Changed?
Short answer: NOPE. I still don't see how the entire package is bad. Every game ever has flaws, EVEN your precious Breath of the Wild was very flawed. This is still my favorite game ever and I do really like BotW a lot. Story is for the most part really great, excellent soundtrack, gameplay is incredible, wonderful cast of characters.
Long Answer (SPOILERS):
Okay so, when I first played this game, it made me look back at Breath of the Wild and feel kinda disappointed with that game. Breath of the Wild kinda didn't feel anywhere near as focused as this game does (ironic considering most people have been saying the opposite).
The Dragon's Tear quest actually was really connected and told a really, really interesting story that got me invested in the characters. The order should have been forced, HOWEVER, Impa notes that the order of the memories is on the wall in the room of the Forgotten Temple. The Regional Phenomena stuff is what the Divine Beast quests should have been. Only one Divine Beast quest had anything going on before the battle, all four regions have stuff going on in them with the Regional Phenomena. Not to mention the regions are actively being affected by the events of the phenomena going on, with the Zora being injured by sludge, the Rito being starved, the Gerudo being invaded by zombi- I mean Gibdos and the Gorons being mind controlled by Ganondorf's puppet. The Puppet Zelda quest could have been handled a lot better, however I have read people's posts about why Link didn't tell anyone about it and I choose to believe that (because a lot of this game is based around theory crafting, like Josha for example, she's all about making theories of the past). Purah not commenting on you having the Master Sword until AFTER you finish the Crisis at Hyrule Castle quest is extremely awkward, especially if you have it on your back. The Ring Ruins quest is also really good, needing to explore the Zonai Ruins to find clothes from the era of the Zonai. Mineru (my beloved)'s quest is genuinely incredible. Building a construct then being able to drive her around is such an amazing idea.
The cast of characters in this game is filled with really great characters. Yes, the ancient Sages are literal WHO? HOWEVER, outside of them, Impa and the Deku Tree, the rest of the cast is really great. Rauru's character arc is my favorite in the series, topping Groose's for me. Sonia is also a really charming character. Both of them are the parents that this Zelda deserved. Such excellent parents. Mineru's my favorite of the cast solely because I can relate to having VERY unhealthy hyperfixation and work issues. Tulin's a really fun character to be around. Sidon's arc is really, really good in this game and the fact that they tied it back to Mipha's death from the Calamity helps the ties between the games become even stronger. Yunobo went from a bottom-tier character to a very solid character for me in this game (partially because he wasn't associated with Scrapper Eldin quest 2.0 this time). Riju is an excellent leader for the Gerudo, willing to put herself in danger for her people. Purah is a bit awkward in terms of writing but she's still good (and thankfully not tied to a backtracking quest this time).
The music REALLY helps make this game's story stand out compared to every other Zelda game story (besides MAYBE Skyward Sword's). Remember His Name is such a powerful and emotional version of Link's theme. The theme from the final Dragon's Tear is what makes me shed a tear every playthrough. Seized Construct's theme helps make that fight hit harder since its a corrupted version of Mineru's theme. Hyrule Castle's theme is more somber than BotW's, which is fitting. The transition themes between the Sky -> Surface and the Surface -> Depths really help make diving feel even more satisfying. Each Sage's theme fits their personality perfectly.
The gameplay in this game is genuinely perfect. The dungeons (hot take) are extremely fun to do, every time I do them I learn a new method for at least one of their puzzles. The Shrines are FAR better in this game than they were in BotW. The Proving Grounds Shrines feel more like a test than BotW's Tests of Strength. HOWEVER, they, for whatever reason, decided to make MORE combat tutorial Shrines. Now for abilities... Ultrahand and Fuse are SUPER fun to toy around with. Ascend ruined gaming for me because I'm so addicted to using it. Recall is crazy and its incredible how they got it to work as perfectly as they did (also great way to reach the Sky Islands).
Now onto the new environments in this game. The Sky Islands are beautiful. While they aren't for the most part visually distinct, a LOT of them are extremely unique. Lightcast Island is especially a really fun island. Thunderhead Isles and Dragonhead Island are amazing as well. Dragonhead's theme is one of my favorite ambient themes ever, its so calming. The Depths is really fun to run around in, except when you run into a pile of Gloom, that really sucks. Construct Factory and Spirit Temple are literal perfection. Fire Temple is also such a really cool dungeon.
Alright, now that I'm done, did my opinion on this game change after my sixth playthrough? ...No. This game is still absolutely incredible and a masterpiece of a game. No matter how much I get harassed (which I have been harassed multiple times over this), my opinion still remains the same on this game. Yes it has its issues, yes I think there are aspects that could be very much improved, but I feel this way with literally every game ever. Thank you for reading my rambling, have a good day.
