Hello!
Forgive me if you’ve already answered a similar question before, but regarding your shadow rising to meet you series, do you have a playlist/selection of songs that you listen to while writing, or find work well for the series and characters?
I was recently on another reread of the Harrowing and had the song “Mirror Forever” by Weyes Blood shuffle on and I thought it lyrically matched Annatar and Celebrimbor really well. I don’t know if space-y slow ballads like that are genres you enjoy, so I’m curious as to what songs you would personally put together for the series might look like. I’m tempted to make a personal playlist myself as I like to play music and read!
Have a good day! <3
Hello hello! Oh, man, that song is so much fun for Annatar/Celebrimbor, I love it. The vibes are so awesome. Thank you so much for sharing!
I listen to music constantly when I’m writing! This story has expanded so much that it has a lot of sub-playlists (including a few memorable chapters that were difficult enough to warrant their own specific playlist—In A Handful of Dust is a notable one there), but I’ll offer a sampler! There have also been a lot of incredible reader suggestions, including @kesterel's magnificent playlist here, which is honestly incredible and which I have totally gone to when I was stuck on edits.
Without further ado! Here are some music recs for Your Shadow Rising To Meet You, with youtube links!
Anastasis
Prayer--Scarlet Pimpernel musical soundtrack
No, stay—I don’t care what you’ve said or done...
Bring On the Wonder--Susan Enan
Thanks, @tathrin!
Chalk Outline--Three Days Grace
This Night--Black Lab
I know I'm not forgiven, but I need a place to sleep
(Acquired this one from a tango DJ ten years ago and finding the right version on Youtube was confusing, oh well)
Annatar's relationships in general
I'll Be Good--Jaymes Young
This one and the next one were recommendations from someone, but I cannot for the life of me remember who or find the comment. Thank you, whoever you are!
Hardest of Hearts--Florence and the Machine
If it be your will--Leonard Cohen
If it be your will, if there is a choice Let the rivers fill, let the hills rejoice Let your mercy spill on all these burning hearts in hell If it be your will to make us well
Guns for Hire--Woodkid
Kiss your perfect day goodbye Because the world is on fire Tuck your innocence goodnight You sold your friends like guns for hire
Conquest of Spaces--Woodkid
Mercy Mirror--Within Temptation
Annatar and Frodo
The Dark Of You--Breaking Benjamin
Say a prayer for the wounded heart within As I become the dark of you
Farewell Wanderlust--The Amazing Devil
I'm the heartbreak that aches far too much to be shunned All those letters unsent and that garden ungrown I'm the captain of courage that you've eternally lacked I'm the Jesus of wishing to Christ he'll come back
Annatar and Finrod
Who You Are (from Beethoven’s Last Night)--Trans-Siberian Orchestra
And who would have thought that after this time, that I’d be the one you’re saving?
Maedhros and Fingon
The Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace--The Amazing Devil
You're not a coward 'cause you cower You're brave because they broke you Yet broken still you breathe
Give Me A Sign--Breaking Benjamin
There's lots more I could add, but I'll stop there so I can cook dinner XD Thanks for the ask!

Talk spreads. Rumors fly. But what is to be believed? What's in front of you? Or the Whispers in the Dark?
Part One: Lying Through Your Teeth
Just One Yesterday (Completed)
this one is a little different than anything else I've written. An AU where the members work in a bar with my MC, no idols among them. It's also going to be on the longer side. The fluffy Chris we know and love is nowhere to be found. He's broodier, moodier, and has jokes up the wazoo. So buckle up, kitties. This one's gonna be good.

hey guys so I’m crazy
I KNOW NOBODY GAF i am hyperfixated with literally have no other outlet to unleash my Demons
okay so basically this isn’t like a “normal” playlist (i have one but it’s private as of rn)- it’s basically like. 2 songs per chapter. In order. like the first two songs are about chapter one, the next two songs are about chapter two, etc etc etc. HOWEVERRR I’m not adding songs for chapters that aren’t released, because they can give vague spoilers. HOWEVERRR (again) I went ahead and added the Chapter 10’s songs anyways for fun :3
im not done lol here is an analysis of every song so far bc again im hyperfixated to high hell and this took 15 hours to organize. HEART EMOJI
(Chapter One)
Welcome to Paradise:
WTP is obviously an ironic song.
Pay attention to the cracked streets
And the broken homes
Some call it slums, some call it nice
I want to take you through
A wasteland I like to call my home
Welcome to paradise
This doesn’t need explaining as to why it’s relevant to B&BH lmao. But if you view these lyrics through their perspectives, the song loses its ironic tone. This wasteland of theirs probably GENUINELY IS paradise for them. It’s kinda comedic.
However, in this song, the narrator is speaking to his mother, asking if she can hear him “whining” as well as “laughing.” And viewing that through B&BH’s perspectives adds the slightest bit of tension- a tension that is very relevant and that will be harder to hide as the story progresses.
Another thing- this song being the first on this playlist is also part of the irony, with “paradise” referencing the plot that’s about to unfold, which takes place nowhere near any kind of paradise.
Come Out and Play:
This song is supposed to initially come off as a nothing more than a reference to B&BH being deranged teenagers. And for the most part, it is. It’s placed in Chapter 1 for a reason: Nothing’s happened yet, this is just B&BH as we know them. AKA, deranged teenagers.
However! Some of the lyrics do hint at what’s to come.
It goes down the same as the thousand before
No one's getting smarter, no one's learning the score
Your never-ending spree of death and violence and hate
Is gonna tie your own rope, tie your own rope, tie your own...
Hey, man, you disrespecting me?
Take him out (you gotta keep 'em separated)
Hey, man, you talkin' back to me?!
Take him out (you gotta keep 'em separated)
Over and over and over again are B&BH going to fight each other because of- unbeknownst to them- their suppressed romantic feelings. and it’s frustrating to watch because their self-destruction is so clear and yet they remain blinded by and to their own dysfunction. This is symbolized in the song, where the narrator has called out the teenagers’ destructive behavior more than once but is continuously interrupted mid-sentence by the cycle of needless violence that never seems to end (is gonna tie your own rope, tie your own rope, tie your ownHEY!!!! MAN YOU TALKING BACK TO ME???). Nothing is getting through. Nobody’s learning.
But you probably shouldn’t separate them.
(Chapter Two)
Fat Lip:
Okay this one is not that deep LMAOOO. Unlike Come Out and Play, this one is purely about them being deranged teenagers, bc this chapter focuses more heavily on their antics.
All The Small Things:
This chapter plays out like any normal day for these characters, and because of that, it may seem like pointless. But what it’s meant to do is serve as a reference point (all of the first three chapters are, actually). What that means is that the more the plot and B&BH will spiral, these first 3 chapters are a reminder of what once was, and they go from funny to bittersweet.
ATST is about how while this chapter is more so slice of life, the “small things” are nevertheless really important to these two. AKA, this is their ten-thousandth uneventful day together, but they’re together, and that’s what they care about. I am making no sense . Fuck it we ball
(Chapter Three)
My Hero:
Reminder that Chapter 3 is the chapter when Beavis falls down the stairs and Butt-Head starts tweaking. This song is meant to be taken through Beavis’ perspective.
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
This song in the context of the fic appears to be nothing more than a sarcastic jab. Like wow Butt-Head what a great fucking hero you are. However, we know that as much as Beavis talks shit to Butt-Head, there is a very strong love within him. He will never admit it, but this guy IS his hero. This song is genuine, and Beavis doesn’t know it. We have genuine love that is being sarcastically sung. Have you guys caught on that im bad at explaining things. This is a lot better in my head
Where Are You Going:
Meanwhile! This song is through Butt-Head’s perspective!
I am no Superman
I have no reasons for you
I am no hero
Oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
Is where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go
That's where I want to be
see why i bolded those lines LMAO
He’s Beavis’s hero… but Butt-Head is no hero. He loves Beavis, but he is also an unhealed, traumatized victim of Joanna. He is terrifyingly emotionally stunted, violence is always his answer, and much, much more. I mean goddamn he was this close to KILLING Beavis in this chapter- not that it’s the first time either of them have tried to or have indirectly nearly caused each other’s demise and not given one singular fuck (except for the episodes Take A Bow and The Day Butt-Head Went Too Far). And in the song, the lyrics just straight up state this (again, I am no hero).
And like Beavis in the last song, these meaning of these lyrics are also something Butt-Head “doesn’t know.” At least, not consciously. He is no hero. He is cruel, borderline barbaric, oh, that’s for sure. But the love he has for Beavis is literally life-defining. Where you are is where I belong, no matter where that is, even if it’s in hell. This song represents Butt-Head’s constant psychological battle between the love he feels and the person he was abused into becoming. (Note: this symbolism can also be applied to Beavis).
(Chapter Four)
Highway to Hell:
haha look it’s the guy named butthole’s song
I’ll try to keep this one short. This song is referencing their antics at the beginning of the chapter (aka, robbery LMAO). But… also… they are literally on a highway to hell, since at the end of the chapter is the cuddling scene that sets everything off.
I’m So Into You:
not a lot to say here either! I actually already talked about this song before (on a post I cannot find! eye twitching). The lyrics are self-explanatory.
I'm so into you
I don't know what I'm gonna do
Boy, you got me so confused
I don't know what I'm gonna do
The song is also about pining for a man who is already in a relationship, which is fitting, since this is the chapter where Butt-Head meets Hannah.
(Chapter Five)
So Much To Say:
I have also spoken about this song before! And while it’s mentioned in Chapter Seven, it’s referencing the events in Chapter Five, which is why I made it Ch. 5’s song. Okay anyways
I say my hell is the closet, I'm stuck inside
haha get it. gay. okay anyways
Can't see the light
Keep it locked up inside
Don't talk about it
T-T-Talk about the weather
Yeah, yeah, yeah
What were they doing in Chapter Five again??? Ohh yeahhh keeping their feelings abt the prior night locked up inside and talking about the weather instead. It’s simple and straight-forward but fits so perfectly i love it so much lmao
Take On Me:
okay so I will be completely honest here. I stole the idea of using this song for emo reasons from The Last of Us 2 LMAOOOOO
Youtuber TLOU Explained did a beautiful analysis video on the relationship between Ellie and Dina, the game’s main characters. In one scene, Ellie sings an acoustic version of “Take On Me” to Dina, and TLOU Explained describes the song’s meaning as this,
“I also think the lyrics of this song are especially poignant, summarizing Ellie and Dina’s relationship in just one line. Ellie sings, ‘Take me on,’ including all of her grief and baggage, everything that she is now, which Dina has already shown that she’s willing to do and will do for as long as she can. Ellie sings, ‘I’ll be gone in a day or two,’ and tragically, in two days from now, the Ellie that Dina knows and loves will be gone.”
I’m only mentioning this because that video is what made me realize what the writers of The Last of Us 2 were doing- what these lyrics, sung in an upbeat tone, can symbolize in a more tragic way. And I don’t want people to think I came up with the idea of using “Take On Me” in a serious way because i absolutely did not LMAO (Note: I wouldn’t do this if this story was an original project. This is just a fanfiction, so I don’t mind taking inspiration from The Last of Us 2 so directly).
Anyways, this song is meant to represent the end of Chapter Five, when Beavis finally recalls what happened the night before and is wrestling with the weight of it all. Using such a fun song seems ironic, but 1) I am a sucker for upbeat songs playing during dramatic moments (i.e., the song “Our Love” in Episode 2 of Arcane). 2) Like I already explained, the lyrics mean more than they appear.
In the context of the fic, the verse, “Take me on,” is a dare. It’s a dare to both characters. Take on what happened between us. I dare you. I dare you to take on what it means to be in love with someone like me. Take me on.
I'll be gone
In a day or two
(Chapter Six)
Bullet With Butterfly Wings:
While both characters can work with this song, this chapter is about Butt-Head being more awful than usual to Beavis, who is trying his best to get back to normal. So, this song is about Beavis.
The world is a vampire
Sent to drain
And Butt-Head is Beavis’ world.
(I feel like the rest of the lyrics don’t really need explaining lmao)
Smile Like You Mean It:
Not too much to say here! The title of the song alone pretty much sums it up. These two (Beavis, especially) are trying to act like everything is okay, but it’s not. They’re “smiling,” but they’re not meaning it.
(Chapter Seven)
In The End:
Once again, this song was mentioned in Chapter Eight, but it’s about Chapter Seven, so that’s why it’s here.
This one is basically Beavis’ breaking point. He’s tried and tried and tried to get things back to normal, and Butt-Head is being everything but cooperative. The last song, “Smile Like You Mean It” is like his final Hail Mary, he’s demanding himself to “smile” like he means it. But in “In The End,” he’s completely given up on trying to fix things. Well, not really. We know that Beavis would never actually give up on Butt-Head. But emotions are high, he’s pissed, and Butt-Head is continuously making everything worse.
How long will he last
Before he's a creep in the past
And you're alone once again?
Will you pop up again
And be my special friend
'Til the end?
And when will that be?
I figured out what you're all about
And I don't think I like what I see
So I hope I won't be there in the end
If you come around
No More Like That:
This song is through Butt-Head’s perspective, and it’s almost a whiplash. The song is a slow, depressing ballad, which is 1) in stark contrast to the prior song, and 2) doesn’t match Butt-Head at all. But it’s representing how Butt-Head put himself aside at the end of this chapter to try to fix things with Beavis. The song is different, and so is Butt-Head’s behavior.
You know you're breaking my heart
And I'm coming apart
Calling in sick
(Chapter Eight)
Hook:
oooo one of my favorites lmao
Okay, so if you’re unaware of this song, its point is that it’s pointless. These are literally the lyrics:
It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel I'll convey
Some inner truth or vast reflection
But I've said nothing so far
And I can keep it up for as long as it takes
And it don't matter who you are
If I'm doing my job then it's your resolve that breaks
Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The Hook brings you back
On that you can rely
In the context of this fic, it’s meant to call attention to how this is pretty much the state Beavis and Butt-Head are in right now. Sure, they’re no longer fighting, but have they… actually resolved anything? They didn’t directly confront the issue, and more so swept everything under the rug in an attempt to get things back to how they were. They’ve said nothing so far, but the hook brings them back, the hook being the somewhat familiarity that has returned. It doesn’t matter how shaky or unstable it is, it’s familiar, it’s the hook, and it keeps bringing them back. It doesn’t matter what they say, as long as they sing with inflection. You get it lmao. This is a banger song btw i highly recommend it
Mt. Washington:
This one is about the end of the chapter, where Beavis has a breakdown over his mother.
Face stained in the ceiling
Why does it keep saying?
I don't have to see you right now
I don't have to see you right now
This part is literal. Beavis literally stares at the ceiling the entire night instead of sleeping.
Digging like you can bury
Something that cannot die
We could wash the dirt off our hands now
Keep it from living underground
This is a call to how Beavis has suppressed everything about his mother. What she has done, what she has not done, Shirley herself. Shirley cannot die, yet Beavis keeps digging.
Lazy summer goddess
You can tell our whole empire
I don't have to see you right now
I don't have to see you right now
“Goddess” being Shirley, for she is weirdly like a divine figure to him. She has hurt him over and over again, telling him, “I don’t have to see you right now,” and yet he clings onto her.
The rest of the song repeats the verse, I don’t have to see you right now. The instruments get louder, the singer starts shouting, everything starts getting faster. It’s like a spiral. Beavis is spiraling.
(Chapter Nine)
Here Before:
This one is Van Driessen’s relationship to Beavis and Butt-Head and how he sees their mothers in everything they do, how they have been here before.
Once I had a child
He was wilder than moonlight
He could do it all
Like he'd been here before
This is about Beavis and Shirley. Wilder than moonlight (Interesting… moonlight isn’t that wild). He could do it all. She could do it all.
Then I had a child
Took his while like northern summer
And he knows it all
Like he's been here before
This is about Butt-Head and Joanna. Took his while like northern summer. He knows it all. Joanna knew it all (We see this trait in the way she talks to Van Driessen in the Chapter 8 flashback) (And of course, in reality, Butt-Head and Joanna do not know it all. It’s the exact opposite. But in their minds, it’s very true).
Somethin’ Stupid:
And of course, the love ballad between a man and a woman is about Butt-Head and Hannah. orrrrrrr is it LOL
The time is right, your perfume fills my head
The stars get red, and, oh, the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying somethin' stupid like, "I love you"
Something interesting here, is why would saying, “I love you,” spoil anything? The narrators are clearly in love. They are on a date, singing fondly of the experience and of one another. But in the context of the fic, as we know, Hannah saying, “I love you,” does. spoil. everything.
And the sentence repeats itself, over and over again. It’s a sweet, genuine echo in Hannah’s head. But for Butt-Head, the echo is a slow, suffocating realization.
"I love you"
"I love you"
"I love you"
"I love you"
aaaaaaand unless I’ve been executed by the state i will go off about the rest of the songs when the chapters are released. BUH BYEEEEEEEEEE

I watched Rise of red and have some complaints/thoughts:
Tumblr media
Some of the songs were good, but the soundtrack wasn't as good as the others in my opinion.
LOVE the outfits, hints and the heart card skirt is fucking adorable!
Tumblr media
Chloe and Red and fucking enemies to friends to lover lesbians I HOPE cause I will scream if Disney doesn't do that
Tumblr media
I feel like the setting of the time travel is weird. Like, they go back in time when the adults are teens, but they're all in high school??? In a world I thought we at most confirmed to be mostly canon in animated movie timelines????? I mean, the villains who died in their movies are brought back to be banished with no magic on the Isle, so like...why???
Also, it adds a bit more levels of fucked up with the idea Belle and Beast are SOMEWHERE in the past and maybe grew up with everyone and then somewhere along the way when a new country/era was made with them being the rulers but basically shoved a lot of their old classmates onto a literal island with no magic cause "living with no magic is a fate worst than death".
All in all, it's a good movie. Did it have to been promoted in trailers and ads with Uma, implying she's a main focus, when they could've done either just the film as a fun in universe movie with the same plot of maybe a lil' book series that plays with the lore? I'm more upset with the fact we didn't get the original casts much and when we did it was very slim even though their faces were all over this project.
If I had to do a rating system of all the movies counting the Royal Wedding with ten being the highest and bestest film ever, I'll say:
Tumblr media
Descendants - 8/10. Great story idea, soundtrack always slaps even if you were like me at the time and heard it like a million times if you live/work with children, and all the characters have changed a bit throughout the movie!
Tumblr media
Descendants 2 - 9/10 Same for the first one, great plot. It's a good sequel. It gave me one of my favorite plot tropes of identity crisis and being comfortable in your own skin in Mal, the songs are so good to the point I still add What's My Name in my playlist, the costumes (minus Mal's wig but it gets a pass) are amazing as fuck, Uma and her crew are just *chef's kiss* Also this movie was just a lot of bi/pan energy and you can't convince me other wise! China was one of my earliest girl crushes and of course she's an amazing character, Harry Hook made me physically stop at my tracks when I first watched the movie, the kind of funny tension between any guy with Harry or any girl with Mal and of course THIS THING-
Tumblr media
LIKE DISNEY, I SWEAR YOU DID A FIGHTING VERSION OF THIS IN RISE OF RED, IF YOU PULL THE "oh they're just good friends" LIE ON ME AGAIN I WILL BE PISSED!!
Tumblr media
Descendants 3 - 6/10 It's not bad but it's just not as good as the others, ya know? Some of the costumes were weird, what was Doug's hair????, Jane and Carlos are just the fucking CUTESTS ever, while I was upset the songs didn't stick as hard, I do love Queen of Mean and Do What You Had To Do, the plot was sadly not a good one to follow even though there were so many things that were a good idea. Alas, so many good ideas yet so little time. But I think it has a higher ranking in my heart simply because this one was the main one that started my Disney Villain Recruiters Descendants AU that I still love so much
Speaking of which, I think since I wrote the one with Dalmatia not that long ago I'll try and see what I can do with the AU with all the movies, not just Rise of Red. I already have an idea of Jack Heart in this world since watching it, I still have drafts of certain events such as Apple seeing Snow again, I also think I need to cause I found out Harry and Audrey, a ship I grew to love over time since first watching it (Literally I was very into Harry and Uma and was at first annoyed when they baited and switched me in the end but I LOVE these two more!!!), are apparently not together in this! Now this is rumors I think but like I think someone confirmed she's engaged or married to a prince and Harry is sailing with his own crew.
DISNEY!!!
Tumblr media
ANYWAYS!
I'll see what I'll be doing! I'm a little curious what they'll do from here is they do anything even if I personally didn't like it. Maybe we'll see the bad choices of the time traveling? I would like an idea of what if Red's mum wasn't evil then her and her dad may or not met, since in the original Disney Alice In Wonderland our lil king LOVES his wife even when she's scary! I personally think that would be a fun idea. And I seriously can't be the ONLY ONE who thought we were gonna have some big reveal that Cinderella was mean or ghosted to Bridget (love the pun name btw, good job Disney) in the past. Cause like her rage was a lot more than just they were friends when a prank happened and suddenly she's evil now. Like I was expecting a reveal like Cinderella went to the party and either knowingly knew but didn't stop the prank or unknowingly helped. Or maybe even had them be friends but she left Bridget alone/didn't stop the bullying in a kind of early Amity and Willow situation from Owl House with maybe Tremaine doing something to cause that to happen like a rumor Bridget is a bad influence, that could give her a edge as an adult of "you want mad, I'll give you mad" kind of scene.
Also the timeline of the film is a little weird minus the whole high school thing. They did a throwaway line of Chad being in collage which made me pump the breaks a bit. I assumed first Descendants they're all 14-16 years old, Descendants 2 takes place a year or so later, and Descendants 3 taking place another year or two depending on how I viewed the timeline of the Wicked World show with everyone being graduated and doing their parts in society and helping the school cause more kids from the Isle are added in, ending the series with the cast being mostly 18-19 years old at least with maybe Carlos and Jane being 17 since they may be younger in the cast. Yet with this line implies to me Mal and Ben got married right after graduating from school, and while we don't know what was happening during the moment of the wedding and the other movies, Uma being in charge would be rushed and sudden for everyone even herself since she should be the same age as the two who got married not that long ago. Also adds a interesting question of when did Carlos die within the timeline? Cause now I'm scared we got that cute moment with him and Jane having their ship name necklace and just all that sappy sappy cuteness and just afterwards Carlos died off screen before Royal Wedding which I'm guessing takes places the same year at least since everyone's designs imply so with hair and wardrobe.
I literally just wrote a fic of Dalmatia grieving Carlos on the same night of the wedding and I wasn't thinking much on timeline until NOW!
Ideas I have before I leave:
Instead of going back in time in the time your parent(s) are in highschool, I would've liked if it was before the Isle was locked away, like starting off. We could have an excuse to see younger casts of the Villain Kids and maybe even get more hints of who the other parents are, maybe even reveal some kids from the books even if it's a cameo in the back.
Have Red be more conflicted of how she rules. Her being scared to be like her mum is great, and her being a rebel is amazing, maybe show her be a great ruler in the rebellion and have a scene afterwards of her complaining about being a ruler. I would write her with that fear with maybe her seeing throughout the story that maybe there's a reason her mum was a little mad.
Have Chloe's struggle of what to do and break out her shell a bit more and not rushed??
Maybe do a reveal of Bridget being the Queen of Hearts later if you want to do that. Like, have a character fans assume is her and then like a saying happens and we get that plot twist.
That's all for now, I'd like to hear other's thoughts and ideas tho!

Lament
TL;DR: I'm so sorry for the ridiculously long delay in updating, but thank you so much to everyone who's reached out in support of this fic this year - from Ao3 to Discord to Tumblr. You're beautiful, life-giving angels!
Also, this fic will likely be 7-8 chapters longer than I thought. But more on that later.
Continue reading below, if you like - but if you're wondering why the hell this blog exists in the first place, please refer to my pinned post!
Just wanna get this off my chest: This fic is the best/worst creative decision I've ever made. I began writing it to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone, but over time, it's become my favorite.
(It's 2 am and I'm so tired, so I'm sorry if the remainder of this post is a hot mess)
It's been a bit of a journey to get here mentally, both in and out of 'fandom' realms (have I mentioned how much it sucks loving two pairings whose shippers NOTORIOUSLY HATE EACH OTHER?) but it's been so, so rewarding, and that's because of such incredible readers.
When people have left comments about initially opening the fic begrudgingly [only to fall in love with it], or just sent me a song they've been listening to while thinking of the fic (see playlist below) - good god, I think about that stuff every single day. It's so special to me, knowing this ridiculous smangst fic could affect anyone like that.
From the beginning, I've followed the outline to a T (save for a couple of tiny amendments, such as Rose showing up a little earlier than I'd intended initially) - so just know that the only reason it took me forever to update is because of insecurity - not because the muse has left me!
While it might not have ten thousand kudos, and while a lot of people have said some incredibly hateful things (I will once again refer to the absurdity of anti-tenrose VS anti-tenmartha discourse), the pros smash the cons. So thank you.
I had (have) a lot more to say, but I already don't know if anyone is going to read this to begin with, so I'm going to cut myself off. But thank you SO much for reading! I hope you like(d) the update!
Thank you so much to badxwolfxrising for being my guiding light with this fic+helping me pull my head out of my ass+being my first friend in the TenRose realm to publish TenMartha smut. Also, thank you to Kate/@blueteensy for being such a massive cheerleader of this series always (and a wonderful friend)!
Playlist of songs wonderful readers have applied to this series (this link will allow you to add music as a collaborator. If you have any Repose songs, I would love to hear them!)
Playlist of songs I've applied to this series

Comeback Celebration: Current Top Ten StayC Songs
So this has been sitting in my drafts since March... but that worked out great, actually, since today we're getting their FIRST FULL ALBUM !!! HAPPY STAYC COMEBACK Y'ALL !!! When it comes to the highs of StayC's discography, I really think that no one can do what they do. My appreciation for their work has grown slowly but steadily--I was only a casual listener of their debut, so it was actually "ASAP" that made me a fan. Then, the Stereotype comeback got them on my stan list, and with the "Run2U" comeback, they became my favorite kpop group (sorry, Twice and Mamamoo, I still love y'all!). Revisiting StayC's earlier songs for this list, I was actually surprised by how impeccably their music has aged--I love this group even more than I thought I did!
1. 247
The queen herself! I think I've done a few other write-ups about this song in my time on Tumblr, and it hasn't gotten any less perfect after two years. "247" really leans into the lofi side of StayC's signature sound, but it has a hell of a kick to it, too. I absolutely could not fall asleep to this one, or do homework while leaving it on repeat, because I would be stimming too hard--how could I not, with a beat like that? That staticky beat commands the song, and you can't even get used to it because it's constantly morphing, surprising you with little offbeats. In contrast, StayC's vocals are a sugar rush, as high and melodic as the beat is low and grating. This is StayC at the top of their game in both production & performance, and the result is a song that gets more dazzling the more intently you listen for its details.
2. Slow Down
It took me a while to notice this one--"Stereotype" and "Complex" had all my attention when the Stereotype album first dropped, but when "Slow Down" finally had its turn in my rotation, I knew the others just couldn't compete. I'm always here for the 10 hours chill lofi beats to study to style of song from StayC, but it's not just the production I love here. The members really add to the song--I especially adore the precision with which they handle the first verse, even as it just runs and runs and runs and runs headfirst into the prechorus. The rap in the bridge docks "Slow Down" a couple of points in my book, but the "haste makes waste" ad-lib wins those back easily.
3. Complex
And here's "Complex" !! This is the song that made StayC my favorite group--from the beginning, it's been brain-cleaning music for my soul. I find it hard to place what, exactly, makes StayC's music so special to me, but "Complex" has it for sure. It's something about the way the members enunciate sharply, but not aggressively, I think. "Complex" is a soft, understated song, but the StayC ladies are masters of enunciation--their performances, strong and confident, give the song these sharp edges that keep me absolutely captivated. StayC's music, soothing but not understimulating, is just so perfect for my sensory sensitivities, and that's what I mean when I say I feel like StayC's style was designed just for me.
4. So What
This was too obnoxious for me when it first came out--maybe because Itzy still ran the girl group landscape in 2021, so I was not in need of another 'sassy & self-confident but also cutesy & girly' type of song? "So What" got me eventually, though; I think it was during the "Beautiful Monster" comeback that this track became a regular fixture in my playlists. "So What" has some of the Itzy magic--flat verses set against soaring melodic choruses, a downright strange instrumental in the prechorus--but it has a lot of StayC magic too, I think. I can't be sure this is inspired by 8-bit music, but the chorus definitely has the sound of a retro video game. (If you've been enjoying that sound lately, you should definitely check this one out!) "So What" is more energetic than a lot of the others on this list, but it's just as cozy and comforting as they are--as the chorus hits you with a barrage of clashing instrumental bits, the vocals get softer and sweeter to balance it out, and the bridge could have been taken straight out of an IU ballad.
5. Run2U
It's kind of unfortunate that this one came out when it did--the music video for "Run2U" dropped right before a really major, terrifying event in my life, so I was replaying it all the time in the months when that event happened. As much as I enjoy "Run2U", I don't listen to it much anymore--it transports me back a little too well. (Luckily for me, the b-sides from this album managed to escape the Bad Memory Vortex!) "Run2U" is an absolutely perfect song, though, stuffed with hooks and textures that my brain loves to chew on. While revisiting "Run2U" for this list, I understood exactly why I was replaying the song so maniacally in the months after it came out (it was my most-listened song of 2022, and I think all those listens were from between February and April). The soaring vocals, the angelic chimes, the beat that feels somehow 3D? It's too much to process on just one listen--or just two, or just three... This could honestly be my favorite StayC song in an alternate universe--it's such a grand statement of just how much this group is capable of!! (And it turns the pop-princess aspect of their style up to 100, which I, as a Twice stan, am legally obligated to love.)
6. ASAP
Rhyming "copy" with "decalcomanie" is the kind of audacity I like to see in a first comeback (only Lightsum has been more audacious--I love you, Lightsum, you'll get your own textpost one day). Though the production & songwriting for this spring lofi sunny day 1 hour chill beats mix sound would be perfected in StayC's later comebacks, the members perform the hell out of this one. Even before "Complex", they had the skill with enunciation to bring some real bite to the quirky-cute girl group sound! Also, that piano in the bridge is glorious.
7. I Like It
You could probably argue that this is just a dollar-store version of "Slow Down" and "So What", and I would probably agree with you--but like, I like this one, okay? I like how Yoon sings "I got my shades on" in the opening; I like the chanted bit in the second prechorus (GWAENCHANA NE TASI ANIJANA !!!!!); I like the whole damn chorus!! I think this one needed a lot more time in the oven production-wise, but I still find it super listenable. The members help "I Like It" flow smoothly despite its clumsy production, and the harmonies alone are worth coming back for.
8. Beautiful Monster
Despite some really clumsy production choices (this album was... interesting, to say the least!), I can't help but love this one--I find myself revisiting it a whole lot. (But, like, what are those claps leading into the chorus. Why are they so loud. Could you just... uh... blend them in, just a little bit? Like, could you just make them sound like they're actually coming from, like, the same song as the rest of the track? Anyway...) "Beautiful Monster" is a super-memorable showcase of StayC's vocals, though, so it's a classic in my book--those bordering-on-wailing high notes remind me of the most emotional moments in GFRIEND songs, and they're scattered throughout all of "Beautiful Monster", and they still hit like bricks every single time?? My heart was not ready for this song.
9. Stereotype
Another classic! This is one of those songs that really makes me think no one can make music quite like StayC's--like, "Stereotype" should not be as interesting as it is. It should not echo in my bones the way it does. We know StayC can bring their songs to stunningly high highs --see: "Run2U" and "Beautiful Monster"--but "Stereotype" manages to be an infinitely satisfying listen without any showstopping moments. This is like the sweeter version of "247"--it takes an even softer approach, but it still has that kick to it, like the sour part of a sip of lemonade or the fizz in lime soda. Admittedly, I don't listen to this one very frequently--I really should be obsessing over it a lot more, but the b-sides from this comeback really stole the show for me (see: "Slow Down" & "Complex" at spots 2 & 3 on this list). "Stereotype" completely deserved its success, though! It's really a perfect encapsulation of the pop-princess-meets-lofi aesthetic that makes StayC stand out.
10. Poppy (Japanese or Korean ver.)
Yes, we get one song from StayC's 2023, at least. (Look, 2023 wasn't really their year, but I needed a break from constantly gushing about how great their music is, anyway!) I think everyone else in the world would have this one on their list, too--I remember when "Poppy" took the fandom by storm, though I didn't get the appeal at the time. I'm sold on it now, though! "Poppy" is a pretty straightforward dance track, but the textures in the instrumental are unique enough that I find it an interesting, enjoyable listen whenever it comes up on shuffle.
Honorable Mentions: So Bad (vocals. oh my god the vocals.), Like This, Butterfly, I Want U Baby (that chorus is a real gem, i hum it to myself all the time), Love (i bring this one out every summer !!), Not Like You

Tumblr media
hello! how annoyed i am that this wouldn't fit all into one post 🙄. this is part 2 of the castles playlist commentary.
<LINK TO PART ONE> <LINK TO PART THREE>
.
Tumblr media
Formidable by La Bronze (Stromae cover): god, do i love this song. and god do i love this cover almost more than the original. i love how she made it less sad and more angry with the more rock-like music, as well as the sound of arabic. it works So Fucking Well. the chorus of this song sort of says it: we were incredible.
The Kid I Used to Know by Arrested Youth: just one of those songs i used to listen to on loop while writing/planning that arc of castles. i do think of this time in this fic as the formal end of harry's childhood, when he finds out about ginny and realises that all their innocence has gone. so long to the kid i used to know.
Hold On by Ren: i feel like there's such a restlessness in this chapter that you also find in this song. this sort of endless torrent of stuff coming harry's way, and him trying to... get through it and hold on.
Tumblr media
Blind Leading The Blind by Mumford & Sons: i had originally put this one in for chapter nine, but i actually think it's more of a chapter ten song. welcome to the trials, aka the epitome of the blind leading the blind.
Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? by Arctic Monkeys: ah. were you also a teen in the early 2010s? welcome to the song. obviously - very harry & ginny in this chapter.
Falling Is Like This by Ani DiFranco: i've always adored this song ever since i discovered it referenced in another fic. it's where i got the idea of the car running off a cliff in last chapter - it's also very heavily referenced in this chapter. think of it like a transition song lol. just such a Mia mood. falling is like this.
Tumblr media
Je suis un homme by Zazie: i was looking for a song this morning to operate the transition between falling is like this and the kids are all rebels, and i settled on this one. judge me all you want but i love zazie, and i think this works quite well with the beginning section of this chapter that is a little bit like the song: humans and their institutions going round in circles.
The Kids Are All Rebels by Lenii: i loooove lenii. she's irish (🇮🇪🥳) and this song is such a DA song. there's this dimension of youthful idealism hitting the brick wall of adulthood, and the things they see the government do which they're not happy with. the song itself was written about trump's covid policies, but it fits so well here too!
Anthem by YOKANA & Barns Courtney: i think this is self-explanatory. harry is starting to doubt his "no comment" strategy...
Statues by Alexandre Desplat: we're... starting a new war in courtrooms, aren't we? jokes aside, it's probably my favourite music from the films, very war-coded, it makes me want to rise up to battle, so.
Remember the Name by Fort Minor & Styles of Beyond: there's something about the relentless rhythm of this song that i just love for the end of this chapter. like: LET'S GOOO!
Legendary by Welshly Arms: i see this as the DA's song, too, you know? not just harry. they're all doing something legendary.
Tumblr media
Till I Collapse by Eminem: this is one of my favourite eminem songs, and i think it fits really well with the beginning of this chapter. the onslaught of press coverage regarding harry's and the DA's actions, and their common desire to push through no matter what.
Instant Crush (feat. Julian Casablancas) by Daft Punk: i actually wanted to put da funk in this playlist (which is the song mentioned in the fic) but i chose not to subject you all to five minutes of lyric-less late-naughties techno music 🤣. i also feel like putting this right after Till I Collapse is a bit of an insult to eminem ("you don't know me, you're too old, let go - it's over, nobody listens to techno" 😅), which is a bit funny lol.
Teenage Culture by SKYLAR: it's funny, i listened to this song on loop the summer of 2023 but didn't really find an excuse to add the song to the castles playlist until it finally hit me now that it was per-fect for this chapter. i love skylar and i love this song, it's so tongue-in-cheek and yet lyrically incredibly clever. i think this is such a teenage anthem and fits so well for this chapter, both in the "partying" side of it, but also in a the-kids-are-all-rebels sort of way. i just absolutely love it.
Everyone's at It by Lily Allen: i've just realised this is the first lily allen song in this entire playlist which, if you know me and how much of a lily allen stan i am, is wild. i stole some of the lyrics of this song for the chapter; it's about the double-standards that exist in dealing with drug addiction, which ginny talks about a bit. it's a song that was very important in opening my young eyes on this topic, when i was a teenager. i feel like it also goes so well with the SKYLAR song, it's like the millenial-advocate-y song to SKYLAR's gen z, more apathetic/don't-care take.
all the good girls go to hell by Billie Eilish: i have a very strange relationship with Billie Eilish's music where i listen to her only for very specific occasions and moods, but i do love that song. and, idk, i kind of see it as a symptom of ginny's slight "descent" in this chapter, where under the surface, partying and sleeping around begins to be less "fun" than it used to be. there's something weirdly haunting about Billie Eilish's music (esp the first album, that i feel fits here).
Any Other World by Mika: i added this song to the playlist rather recently but if you are a the good wife fan, it will of course sound familiar. i think i was looking for a song to finish off this chapter and recently was lucky enough to see Mika play live in dublin, and thought it just fit. it's neither really a love song nor a political song, it's a third thing, and i think it's really symbolic of the conclusion you reach at the end of this chapter of "say goodbye to the world you live in". i think this chapter is really the point of no return, this sort of deep realisation that nothing will be the same anymore. it's also the halfway point of the fic (in terms of chapters), so i reckon it works.
Tumblr media
Un peu d'espoir by Joyce Jonathan: i relistened to this song recently and i think it really suits the beginning of the chapter. there's a growing up vibe to it and, nostalgia, sadness and hope at the same time. i really see it playing in that time where harry reflects on the upcoming anniversary of the war and where he and ginny talk about the aftermath.
Dance Monkey by Tones and I (Stripped Back): okay. i know this is a bold choice but let me explain. basically: i was working on completing the playlist and was looking for a song for the end of the trials, draco's hearing and all the politics in this chapter. i looked up my top songs of 2022 (which is when this chapter was written) and found out i actually listened to this song quite a lot that year (the original version of it). and yes, this is a dance song, but when you look at the lyrics, there's a vibe of, like, the establishment and the wider world forcing you to do something you don't really want to do? like, sure, here, this is a woman who's being told, basically "why don't you dance/smile more" but i think this is also applicable to harry and his relationship with the press and the wizarding world in general. there is a dimension in it of "dance monkey! dance!" where he's just like - not feeling it. this is the chapter where he rebels, too, and actually doesn't stick to the script, and pushes the wizarding world to change, and we love that for him. i chose the stripped back version for the playlist, because i feel it just fits the mood more than the dance version of this song.
bad guy by Billie Eilish: ugh. do i need to explain? i mean, harry, come on. stop toying with two girls at the same time.
Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran: a bit the same as the above. my bad habits lead to you - you can't quite let ginny go, can't you?
Arcade by Duncan Laurence: if you were on tiktok in the golden age of dracotok, this song will need no introduction. i don't even think the lyrics fit but i now have such a strong association between draco malfoy and this song, it needed to be there in this chapter.
This Is What Makes Us Girls by Lana Del Rey: i feel like this is a lesser-known Lana song, but it's haunted me for years. i think there's a vibe of "for us girls, it's just the way wars are fought" in that song. and, with this chapter being the one where we find out about pansy, i couldn't not include it.
Broken Crown by Mumford & Sons: i've always felt like this was such a castles song overall, but struggled to find a good spot for it in the playlist. and then, i don't know. i feel like this moment after malfoy tells harry the truth and when he's having his tirade about systems just... works. this is a song that to me, represent the both of them, actually. i'll never wear your broken crown, i'll never be your chosen one. for malfoy, it's realising just that - he's not the chosen one. for harry, it foreshadows what's to come with alecto.
Mr. Sandman by SYML: okay, i cannot possibly explain this but i very strongly associate this song with the vibe of draco in prison, and that last scene. it's bizarrely haunting, and i think fits the mood perfectly.
Tumblr media
Wrecked by Imagine Dragons: this song is one of those songs about grief that are maybe a bit one the nose but idk, i like it. i listened to it loads the summer it came out, and it inspired me to bring giulia back in this chapter. so there you go haha.
In Your Heart by The Franklin Electric: this is a song i love and i've listened a lot, but again, one that i couldn't really find a good place for in the playlist. but i was looking for a song to cover sort of the alecto/kingsley era of this chapter and i think it's perfect. it's vague enough that it could be about anything, and generally it's very much about guilt and substance abuse, and feeling lost, and very "in your head" which fits the bill. the beginning in particular really speaks to me: it's your fault, when your pride grows thicker than your skin, it's burning up like oxygen. and also this: the teachers never told you about reasonable doubt. i think it very much resonates with harry making that awful decision in that moment, and the guilt/unease that flows from it.
Foundations by Kate Nash: ah, do i even need to explain this one? this article was making the rounds a while back and it's So On Point. this song is an anthem to the breakdown of that first adult relationship you have with a boy that's a dickhead and this is mia's anthem. she deserves it. my fingertips are holding onto the cracks in our foundations and i know that i should let go, but i can't. i feel like this is so representative of that moment where everything points towards mia leaving him, but instead she asks him to come with her. darling, you deserve so much better!
People Help The People by Birdy: i was looking for a song to cover the memorial and i think this one (this version in particular) is just so beautiful. there's something very breathy and airy and the lyrics really resonate. the ups and downs of the verses v. the chorus of people helping people. give me your hand and i'll hold it is also building towards the hinny moment later. i really love this here.
Tobacco In My Sheets by Lauren Aquilina: god, i've loved and listened to this song so much. to me, it's the ginny&molly song. i've also hesitated on placement, it could have been earlier when molly and ginny were fighting, or later in 22, but ultimately, that scene with the hug is what i'm choosing. this song breaks my heart into a million pieces every time i hear it.
Higher by Lily Allen: ugh. this is probably one of my old time favourite lily songs. it took me a long time to understand it, listen to an interview when she was explaining this was written from the POV of her ex-husband. there's something so tragic about it, but i also really like the conflictual-ness of it, the one-upping each other which is a little bit what harry and ginny are doing for part of their conversation. there's also harry's unrelenting, unyielding attitude towards ginny's fuck ups, both tolerating them, but also making it clear that it needs to stop. it's your life, i said i'd never let you waste my time, i said you'd never hear me say that twice. you crossed that line. i just fucking adore this song.
Delilah by Florence + The Machine: there's a complexity in that song of i'm gonna be free, i'm gonna be fine, but also holding on for your call, i can never let go that i feel is very much the dichotomy of ginny in this chapter. the certainty and confidence but also the vulnerability of her conversation with harry at times.
Supernatural by Barns Courtney: i kind of see this song also as a transition into next chapter. one last time, let you back into my head - to me, it's harry and ginny sort of dancing around each other like they do in the of that conversation. want-me-want-me-not. they both do it at times, and especially harry in the next chapter, and i think it's a good song to launch the next part.
Tumblr media
I'm Not A Saint by Billy Raffoul: this song has strong castles!harry vibes - at least for that era of his life lol. i kind of both see it as the opening song for the whole alecto mess, but also as an anthem for the whole chapter. i've one too many cigarettes, burning off my tongue, and the chorus of i'm not a saint but i could be if i tried is very harry/mia.
Lap Dance by Ycare: i fucking love this song. literally, i see it as the harry&hermione dancing scene song. more figuratively, it's harry dancing around with mia and ginny hot-and-cold-ing harry.
Trigger Bang (feat. Giggs) by Lily Allen: another of my favourite lily songs ever - i remember it came out as one of the early releases on no shame and i fucking gasped when i first heard it, i think it's my favourite song on the album. i actually listened to that album a lot while writing act 2 of castles; it's an album that deals a lot with addiction and messing up, which obviously is very much ginny's arc at that point. particularly, this song inspired the party thing where ginny says she'll avoid the party because (in other words), it's triggering to her. i was trying to find an excuse for the "one time they didn't meet" to fit with the theme of the chapter, and that song is what inspired me to write the whole party subplot, actually. that's why i can't hang with the cool gang, everyone's a trigger bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.
The List by Maisie Peters: i love the successions of these two songs because they kind of build off on each other. it's new resolutions and turning a page, which is very much what ginny does here.
July by Noah Cyrus: ugh. self-explanatory. this is the most mia song ever. leave him. just leave him (spoiler alert, she can't).
Double Denim - the one to cry to at 3am by SKYLAR: another massive ugh. mia, stop falling for the bad boys. and harry, you are this song in this chapter. this song also have some of my favourite lyrics by SKYLAR ever, which apply so well in this context: mister, mister, if she's like a sister, why did you kiss her? what? to be polite? but aphrodite don't go kiss athena so why d'you kiss her? just, out of spite?
Back To Black by Amy Winehouse: ah, amy, my love. another victim of the tabloid press. i've always seen this song as mia's break-up song, and the title of the paris fic is taken from back to black. he left no time to regret, kept his dick wet, with his same old safe bet. baby, mia, my dear, i'm so sorry.
BLIZZARD by Fauve: there's this meme on french tiktok right now that's like: "the kids who used to passionately listen to Fauve in the summer on 2015, how are you all doing??" 😅 not well is the answer to that question lmao. jokes aside, for anyone not familiar, Fauve were a bit of a musical concept back in the day, and they have a lot of slam/rap songs about love and mental health and stuff that were very #deep but sure look, i still fucking love them. and, this song is so castles!hinny, it's very much about taking a leap and believing in the future, which is the sort of trajectory they're choosing for each other at the end of this chapter. tu nous entends l'amour, tu nous entends?
Que tout s'danse by Noé Preszow: this song is another of those songs that are incredibly important to castles and have really shaped the narrative of the fic. it basically says "you tell me anyone can dance through everything". it's a song about love and resilience and fucking up, and really was essential to the whole hinny arc in part 2. it has these lyrics about "i know it doesn't seem like it but i need to be laughed at, i need anonymous letters accusing me of all crimes" - to me it speaks to the very thesis of why harry chooses ginny: because she challenges him and makes him a better person. but, in my head, this song is also a war song, and a castles song. it's very linked to the trials arc of part 2, which also concludes in this chapter. in the song, the lyrics state: tu me dis que tout s'danse, même la gêne, même la haine, même l'errance. Que tout s'danse, la solitude, l'état de siège, l'état d'urgence. that last part, basically translating to "you can dance through anything, a siege or a state of emergency" is a direct reference to the state of emergency that was declared after the bataclan attacks in paris in 2016. as i've said before, i drew a lot of inspiration from the bataclan trials for castles, which were ongoing as i was writing, and from the bataclan attacks in general, which had a massive impact on my life and in part, motivated me to write castles. it's a gorgeous song, and one that has been in the playlist from the very start of this journey.
Friends (The Way I Wrote It) by Ian McConnell: i don't think i need to explain this one. it's the very last of the harry/mia song. it's cute and sad and weirdly perfect.
Tumblr media
Paris by The Chainsmokers: i listened to this song a lot whilst writing chapter 15/16 and i couldn't help but feel like i had to include it somewhere. at first i was like "this has got to be mia related because it's paris," but ultimately, i think it's a very hinny-in-chapter-16 song. you'll see anyway that this whole chapter is pretty much one travel-related song after the other (lol), so here's the first one of many haha. i love the "let's show them we are better" and "if we go down, let's go down together" - it's very them and is also a good transition between 15 and 16.
Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls: i really struggled with this chapter regarding whether or not to include the muggle songs that are referenced in the text into the playlist. in the end, i decided not to, apart from this one and the Manu Chao one (see below). i don't think stuff like the real slim shady or wannabe or Dido are particularly relevant to this story, but this one is just so perfectly cliché and great for Ron & Hermione - i just had to include it.
Caravane by Raphaël: i know, i know. if you're french, you can't stand this song anymore cause it's been so overplayed, think: james blunt's you're beautiful. BUT it is a beautiful song. and, it's: harry and ginny leaving. being free. just the two of them. 🥹
Young as the Morning Old as the Sea by Passenger: i just love this song, it's gorge. but yeah, just another travel song in fairness ^^.
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman: so, funnily enough, this song was supposed to be a song harry and ginny danced to at the wedding. i took it out because all things considered, it's not a super hopeful song. but just now, i was looking for song to cover their first fight in misty village and like, idk. i love the metaphor in this, the way the first few pages of the trip (and the first few songs) are very happy-go-lucky and "yaay! we're going on an adventure" but then this one is like: is the adventure really a happy ending? it follows the hopeful beginning of this song and the more tragic end, almost. also this one and the previous one are very guitar-based, so they go well together.
Renegades by X Ambassadors: aaaaaand, they're back on the road lol.
The Seer's Tower by Jamie Cullum: this is a cover of a Sufjan Stevens song but Jamie Cullum's version fucking haunts me. i think it fits so well the low-key tension that exists between harry and ginny in that part of the chapter, around chicago and the midwest, where they're actually talking and making progress but also, everything's a bit complicated. i just adore this. and, obviously, the title of the song is a reference to Sear's Tower in chicago, which harry and ginny visit.
Bongo Bong by Manu Chao: aaaaaand, we're back on the road lol. with this quintessential european 90s song lol.
Sword from the Stone by Passenger: this is probably one of my top three passenger songs and the only "covid" song i can tolerate lol. i was sort of looking for a place for it in castles and then it hit me while making the playlist for this chapter. it's got that sort of desperation to it and that "i can't do it alone" and the ups and downs that are. very symptomatic of harry and ginny in this chapter. to me, this is really representative of the lead up to their final fight and of the fight itself.
It's Called: Freefall by Paris Paloma: this is a cover version which you probably already heard if you're on tiktok - it really inspired this chapter, and particularly the grand canyon moment.
What Is Love? by The Red Pill & Alan Watts: a bit the same as the above, i just love the text and it really symbolises that idea of taking a leap and believing in love for the two of them.
LETTRE A ZOÉ by Fauve: this is probably my favourite Fauve song and to me it so symbolises the vibe of the grand canyon aftermath, the very early, exciting stages of a reconciliation. it's such a beautiful song and i think it transitions wonderfully into the new "stage" of castles.

@radioactivegeorg cassette tips!!!
ok so. generally it is very easy to record cassettes. i for one was surprised about how easy it was. it is however a little timely but worth it because cassettes are god's most beautiful children.
you will need a cassette player obviously. i have bad experiences with the small walkman-type guys but i think that might just have been mine. this is the one i use to record them & play them most of the time
Tumblr media
got it from my dad and she is my favorite firstborn son who is 30 years older than me. yeah you heard it right this bitch was made in the SEVENTIES and she hasn't let me down once except when she ran out of batteries that one time. as long as yr cassette player has a record button it should be fine though
you also need:
cassettes! fun fact you don't actually need blank ones (although they are a little easier) you can record over regular ones! i don't personally have experience with this though so here is an article on it
Tumblr media
your Device! so Hypothetically i think you MIGHT be able to record from a phone if you have either a headphone jack on your phone or a very functional headphone jack to lightning adapter. again i have not personally tried this so i would recommend Computer
your music! Another Fun Fact you don't have to have any music downloaded to record it onto a cassette! cassettes will literally record any audio coming from your Device so all you need is a playlist from your streaming service of choice, a youtube playlist, a playlist of files on some media player, something like that. you could record a whole episode of television if you want no one can stop you. i will explain how to arrange yr music further on.
a cable that goes between the cassette player and the Device! typically a male-to-male 3.5mm headphone jack cable (gayyy). this guy.
Tumblr media
this is probably the only thing on the list that isn't like. immediately obvious-- i got mine at a local guitar store but they're very cheap online
and of course fun things to decorate the cassette with!!! the Most Important part. i use sharpie paint pens.
OKAY!! step one!! get yr music organized. yr tape is probably either 60 or 90 minutes long or maybe 110 or 100 or possibly some other strange number if you're using a prerecorded tape. either way you need to make two playlists each the length of one side of the tape. so if i'm making a mixtape i usually make one big 90 minute playlist and then divide it up into 45 minute playlists when i'm done. if you're doing an album you Might be able to get one on each side (again depending on what length yr tape is). since the playlists generally end up a minute or so under the exact length my very favorite thing in the entire world to do is add a random song and let it play out in part at the end and not write it down on the tracklist. music dessert.
step two!! get those guys connected. my tape player has this hole labeled MIC
Tumblr media
but yrs might not. so just plug one end of the cable into whatever hole looks like an audio input or headphone jack and hope it works. i am the farthest from an expert here. & then plug the other end into yr Device's headphone jack! congratulations you are now practicing Mad Science & yr devices are having transgenerational gay sex. (at least that is what it feels like)
step three!! play that audio!!! so this is the part where trial & error is key. because if you record your music on full volume it will sound Bad. i typically turn the volume on whatever platform my playlist is on way down. like.
Tumblr media
but you don't want it Too Quiet or else you'll have to turn your player's volume so far up that the tape hiss will start to overpower the music. it's a balancing act. which is why you should...
step three point five make a test patch!! what i usually do is play the first ten seconds of the first song, ten seconds from the middle of that song, and ten seconds from one or two more songs on the playlist, just to get the full range of volumes & frequencies & whatnot. then rewind and listen to it back and figure out if it should be louder or quieter. this might not be super obvious right away (my first cassette Sucked) but it gets pretty easy to tell eventually.
step four record that bitch!!!! don't press play on your music the Second you press record because there's a bit of plastic at the beginning of the tape that can't be recorded onto so you'll lose the first few seconds of your music. this is also why you shouldn't have a playlist that's Exactly the length of a side but rather a little shorter or a little longer w/ a song you're cool with getting cut off. and then. you wait. my absolute least favorite bit. recording is basically the same as playing (in that the entire tape gets run through the player, at the same speed) except you can't listen to any music. you should also probably refrain from using the Device while recording to avoid any other sounds playing because like i said the tape isn't recording your music specifically, it's recording all the audio from the Device. i have So Many tapes with text tones interrupting the music :( generally i like to record tapes when i'm out or doing something off my computer or on occasion sleeping. once the whole side has been recorded there's a click (like when the whole side has been played) and you turn the cassette over, go to your second playlist, and do the whole thing over again!!
step five best step the reason we do it all DECORATE!!!! coolest thing about cassettes is you can decorate literally the whole thing. all the case all the card all the cassette itself!! anything that works on plastic should work. here are my children:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
& yeah that's it!!! sorry this got so long & over-explain-y i just. love talking about cassettes. number one activity. lmk if you have any other questions!!

Note
coincidentally i have also spent the last couple days making/finishing my ten playlist (this means: actually finding songs for it and over doubling it in length lol) https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6PqNHW0Dta7DONV2UHAjZW?si=b4d49ec0b8944216
i'll post it sometime to my own tumblr later when i feel 100% on it (i am still editing it), but you can go through it and add it to your own if u want! it's also organized by series/companion in chronological order if you're looking for anything specific
This is going to sound crazy, but as I was putting this together yesterday I remembered you recommended some really good ten songs awhile ago, and I wanted to revisit them, but I think it was in an ask or reply on my blog and I couldn’t find it. So I tried to search “playlist” on your blog, but the only thing that came up was Patrick Bateman’s Epic Beats. I’ve never seen American Psycho, but I clicked on it and really appreciated the structure of “Hip To Be Square” followed by “Cbat” nine times in a row. I feel like I understand this character more now. Anyway it occurred to me that the ten playlist you mentioned might be on the same Spotify. I apologize for looking at the unfinished version.
I think I’ve said before that my character playlists always suffer from the fact that I always want the songs to be ones I also feel like listening to when walking places. I think all of these were great choices though. I added Against the Kitchen Floor, Flight of the Crows, Free, and Inertia. You are so right that I Can’t Handle Change is 100% a ten song, unfortunately I played that song on loop when I was depressed in high school and can no longer listen to it lol. Also I loved the addition of H.S. by Tom Cardy.

Martell Week- COTD: Oberyn Martell
Tag: @elvinaa @adriennegabriella @morby @candycanes19 @wingsoftheangels @tashastrange89
(A/N: Okay so we had a House Martell music task...well, I want to do that for just Oberyn. So the first ten are songs with my reasoning, while the last ten are certain lyrics that fit him without my reasoning. Plus, this helps me get a playlist for Oberyn started for use. Enjoy the ride! Also am working on Day 2 and 3, so hopefully I can get those done tonight.)
1- “Unholy (Japanese Version)” by: Shayne Orok, Curserino & Ali Orok
Reasoning: Alright, pick any version of Unholy; I don’t care if it’s the OG to a cover or whatever else, this version screams Oberyn. It’s slow and sensual and sexy, to say the least, I recommend this song for any smut/lemon playlist.
2- “Oberyn” by: Daenerys and Targaryens
Reasoning: Please, do yourself a favor! Go and listen to this song. It’s so fun and a bit funny but it’s about him! So enjoy fellow Oberyn fans.
3- “Letter To A Friend” by: Robert Gromotka and Chiharu Bley Violoncello
Reasoning: I feel this would be his theme song back in Dorne. More so when he’s in the Water Garden writing poems for his daughters. It’s just something that would make you think of him feeling calm for lack of a better term.
4- “Bow Down” by: I, Prevail
Reasoning: Basically, this song is could be his theme song when trying to avenge his Sister and her children. I did have this one down in the lyric area but switched it because, of how it just works more so as a whole.
5- “Crossing Over” by: Five Finger Death Punch
Reasoning: So, after watching the Bills game, I was trying to think what else to add and remember this old gem. This song is about loss and grieving and well, he lost Elia. Also you could use this song for Ellaria as well, when the second verse.
6- “Adrenalize” by: In This Moment
Reasoning: If I had to give Oberyn’s “infamous for his sexual appetite” as the wiki puts it, a theme song, it would be this. It’s hard, heavy and well a sex song.
7- “Tonight” by: Fozzy
Reasoning: “Then everyone is missing half the world’s pleasure. The gods made women… and it delights me. The gods made men… and it delights me. When it comes to war, I fight for Dorne. When it comes to love — I don’t choose sides.”
8- “One Of The Girls” by: Jennie Kim, Lily-Rose Depp, and The Weeknd
“We don't gotta be in love, no
I don't gotta be the one, no
I just wanna be one of your girls tonight
We don't gotta be in love, no
I don't gotta be the one, no
I just wanna be one of your girls tonight, oh”
9- “Emperor’s New Clothes” by: Panic! At The Disco
“I'm taking back the crown
I'm all dressed up and naked
I see what's mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)”
10- “Love You To Death” by: Type O Negative
“In her place one hundred candles burning
As salty sweat drips from her breast
Her hips move and I can feel what they're saying, swaying
They say the beast inside of me is gonna get ya, get ya, get”
11- “Hangman” by: Rev Theory
“Take your places please
You’ll need to sit for this one
It’s a simple plan
With a mangled conclusion”
12- “Go Girl” by: Pitbull
“I party like a rockstar
Look like a movie star
Play like an all star
Fuck like a pornstar”
13- “The Whims of Fate -King Side” cover by: FamilyJules feat Kuraiinu
“Give into another vice
See where it might lead
Come on, let's just enjoy the spice
Life and feel so free
Give into temptation”
14- “So Far Away” by: Staind
“This is my life
Its not what it was before
All these feelings I've shared
And these are my dreams
That I'd never lived before
Somebody shake me
'Cause I
I must be sleeping”
15- “Young Gods” by: Hasley
“He says, "Ooh, baby girl, don't get cut on my edges
I'm the king of everything and oh, my tongue is a weapon
There's a light in the crack that's separating your thighs
And if you wanna go to heaven, you should fuck me tonight"”

Impromptu Dance Party
Summary: Doing something sweet for your girlfriend
Word Count: 1k
a/n: EVE FLUFF
also, the playlist for this will be here<3
Tumblr media
The day had seemed to drag one for you, wanting to just me home with your girlfriend. Eve had been called into work last minute to help Amanda with something at the old folks home while you went to go to your classes or any errands that you had to do. Getting back home expecting to see her there, you were sad to get a text from the older woman about having to stay a couple of hours more and you felt terrible. She had wanted to use today to relax, get some cleaning done, and overall just spend time with her favorite person in the world, you.
Having about 2 hours before she came back home from work, you decided to give Eve something special, a playlist with all of the songs she loved to listen to on repeat.
As much as you loved her, she didn’t have much experience with technology, and if she heard a song that she knew was gonna be one of her favorite, the older woman would save it on her notes so you can help her get it to her Spotify for later if she’s driving, at work or any other reason. Making playlists for people you loved was something and the thought of making one for her was exciting.
The moment that you get home from school, you clean around the house, ordering her favorite food to get here a couple of minutes before she arrives then make your way to the living room to get this playlist made. The first four songs in the playlist are some that she heard when both of you had first met, in margo’s class and when she decided to have class in a bar. A couple of other songs that you had introduced her to as you felt it was “ something that she would love” which was proven true as you’d catch her humming to them around the house.
Making sure not to forget to add a couple of Abba songs to the mix for your girlfriend because it would not be a playlist that had all of Eve’s favorite songs if there weren’t at least three or four songs. Time goes by quickly as you make the playlist for her, the food from her favorite food place getting there in about ten minutes from her arrival. You set the food on the table, connect your phone to her speaker, and patiently wait for her arrival back.
While Eve, on the other hand, was super tired and wanted to see you. Her day off was a work day because Amanda needed her to come in about one of the new residents coming in and she was unsure of what to do while Eve on the inside wanted to say sorry, she felt bad leaving her on her own since she had just started there. For a senior citizen home, she sometimes wished there would be at least one day when she’s able to rest.
Even the drive on the way home felt longer than usual with all the evening traffic and she just wanted to be at home with you, eating dinner, and cuddling among other things.
My love: You coming home already eve? <3
Eve: I’ve got about 10 more minutes.
You feel bad for the woman as you know she’s stuck in slow traffic and decide that take a quick little nap while she’s on the way. Eve plays some random radio station that helps her calm down and before she knows it, Eve pulls into the driveway to her house, so happy to be home to her lovely girlfriend. Grabbing all of her belongings from her car, the older woman is greeted by you, happily sleeping on the couch, the smell of food from her favorite restaurant in town, and the sound of what seems to be music.
Eve wakes you up from your nap, very gently and the moment your eyes met the face of your girlfriend, you pull her in for a kiss, never not excited to see her. Eve giggles back as you give her kisses all over her face, blushing like crazy at the attention she’s getting, very much enjoying it.
“ Is today a special day y/n? You got me food from my favorite place,” she asks while you get up to be in a sitting position, the woman wondering if she missed an important date today.
“ Nope, just wanted to treat you to something nice eve,” you pause,” and I also made a whole playlist for you with your favorite songs to listen to anywhere”. Eve would be lying if she said that she wasn’t on the verge of tears. Never not grateful to have you here, to even be dating you after having to deal with a son who was the worst, a rude ex and the universe did her a favor when you had walked into the writing class that she decided would be fun to do on her free time after her son left for college. Looking through the playlist it had many songs that she grew to love, songs that you told her many times reminded you of her, and some new ones that she was over the moon to listen to if she was driving to work, on her lunch in her office or anywhere else.
Eve pulls you off the couch without a word and puts the playlist on shuffle, the first playing being Honey by Coastal club, dancing along with your girlfriend. Each song going on made your heart swoon at seeing this woman be so happy, not giving any shit about anything else in life, grinning from ear to ear as she danced like she’s the only one in the room. Dancing offbeat to the pop songs and slow dancing together to any of the slow songs. You cherished times like these between the two of you, excited to make many more happy memories.
Every time that you did small things like these for your girlfriend, she would always be forever grateful to have you in her life and make it better

Chapter 4: There’s A Limit to Everything
“Come now, Fallon, you do better than that.” Wyll scolds her. “You’ve felled a dragon, surely you can hold a plank for thirty more seconds.”
If it were possible for Fallon to look up at Wyll in her current position, she would glare daggers at her friend. When Fallon agreed to train with Wyll to prepare her for this adventure she and Astarion were planning, she’d expected the coach she saw in The Druid Grove the day they met. He was kind and gentle, but still firm in his instructions with the tiefling children on sword wielding and defending themselves. The Wyll before her now is a drill sergeant. Though Fallon doesn’t think Wyll is capable of yelling at her (or anyone, really), training with him is tough. It doesn’t matter to him that Fallon hasn’t picked up a sword or done a push up or a single abdominal crunch in over a year. Breaking into The House of Hope, stealing the Orphic Hammer, and fighting Raphael was easier than going through Wyll’s training regimen every morning.
The very first morning of training with him, Fallon vomited all over the streets of the Lower City not ten minutes into their run. Then again, that could have also been because Fallon drank her weight in wine the night before. Wyll was sympathetic long enough to make sure she wasn’t going to pass out and for her to drink a full canteen of water, then the drill sergeant came out and they were right back to it. ”I won’t make you go all out today, but you’re going to finish this run whether you like it or not. If you have to stop again, so be it, but we’re not turning around.” He’d said.
Almost a month later it hasn’t gotten any easier, but that could be because the moment Wyll realizes she’s capable of more, he makes it harder. Case in point: Fallon has been holding this particular plank for a full minute thirty already. Fallon whimpers pathetically in Wyll’s general direction.
“Oh go easy on her, Wyll, she’s lived at the bottom of a wine barrel for the last year.” Fallon hears Shadowheart chirp.
Fallon didn’t hear the Selunite cleric enter the already crowded suite, and she frowns. “I’m sorry, but when the fuck did my training become a group activity?” She manages to grumble as her arms and legs shake, begging for relief from the plank she’s holding. In any other situation, Fallon would be happy to see Shadowheart, but Fallon really didn’t need all of her friends seeing her struggle through a simple plank.
“I’m just here for moral support,” Shadowheart answers innocently and if Fallon could laugh, she would. “Plus it’s nice to see Wyll put someone else through their paces for once.”
“If you want to be supportive you could get down here and do this plank with me.” Fallon suggests dryly.
“Ohh, I’m afraid I can’t. I’m not dressed for that sort of occasion.” Of course she isn’t.
“Besides, you’re done.” Wyll adds, and Fallon collapses face down onto the floor with a grunt.
“Wyll, come here so I can kick you.” She whines, and The Blade of Avernus laughs loudly.
“If you want to kick me so badly, you’ll have to come over here.” he says, and Fallon scoffs.
Fallon feels a presence approaching her. There’s suddenly someone’s hot (and smelly) breath on her neck and they are aggressively licking her ear. A smile blooms onto Fallon’s face as she rolls over, too excited to take it slowly. “Scratch!” she exclaims with a squeal and immediately begins scratching the dog behind both ears. His assault on her ear moves to her face and neck and Fallon is in a fit of giggles on the floor. “I missed you too, buddy.”
Before he left her standing in shock on the docks, Fallon had every intention of bringing Scratch home with her, wherever her home ended up being. It became clear pretty immediately after she broke down in Karlach’s arms that she was in no condition to care for another living being, so the dog went with Wyll. It was the better arrangement anyway, because Wyll has spent most of the last year helping rebuild Badur’s Gate and Scratch’s presence was a comfort and distraction for the children whose lives were upended.
“Leave it to the dog to be the first one to make her smile genuinely in god knows how long,” Astarion quips as he enters the sitting area from the kitchen. “If I had known all it would take is kissing your face and neck repeatedly, I would have tried that ages ago.”
Fallon nudges Scratch away from her to sit up. “Excuse me, I’m fairly certain it was you who chastised me not a month ago for using sex as a coping mechanism,” She teases, still smiling. “Nice to meet you, Pot, I’m Kettle.” The fact that she can joke about what a mess she was when Astarion found her fucking that drow in an alleyway is a small step, but at least she’s healing. Astarion has all but moved into the suite. He hasn’t slept at his own residence since the night he found her, so perhaps not being alone all the time anymore is helping, too.
There’s a sparkle in Astarions eye when he looks at Fallon. He raises an eyebrow and smirks at her. “I didn’t say anything about sex, darling, just that I should have taken a page from Scratch’s book. You’re the one who immediately made it sexual. Get your mind out of the brothel.” Astarion shoots her a wink, really hitting the flirtation home, and Fallon rolls her eyes as she stands. They both know damn well he’s flirting with her, because he’s Astarion and he can’t help it. He flirts with everyone, and Fallon? She just might be flirting back because it’s nice to feel something other than miserable.
Shadowheart and Wyll exchange looks, but they don’t say anything.
“So I can see how half of the preparation for your trip is going, what about the other half?” Shadowheart flops unceremoniously onto Fallon’s couch.
“Slow,” Fallon crosses the room to her half-empty canteen and drinks heavily. “It’s been more difficult than I’d anticipated to get access to the library’s volume’s on Velrea, and the ones I can find hardly mention Asha at all. We’ve not even left Faerun and we’re already resorting to skullduggery, cloaks, and daggers to get the information we need.”
“Gods, you sound like Gale.” Shadowheart muses offhandedly.
Fallon’s entire body freezes and her mind shuts off. She hasn’t heard his name out loud in…well, probably a year. Fallon’s eyes immediately divert to the floor and she begins following the various patterns woven across, willing her mind to focus there, and not on the name of the man who broke her heart.
“Shit,” Shadowheart gasps, immediately realizing her mistake. “Fallon, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean– I wasn’t–The way you said that, you just– I didn’t know it was still this bad, I–Fuck.” The cleric rises from the couch and attempts to stride over to Fallon, but she’s cut off by Astarion and Fallon looks up.
“Don’t.” He tells Shadowheart sharply, his red eyes filled with fire. “I believe it’s time for anyone who doesn’t live here to leave.”
Wyll does not need to be told twice, as he’s already collecting Scratch and heading for the door. He offers Fallon a sympathetic look. Gods, she fucking hates the way they’re all looking at her. At this moment, she misses drill sergeant Wyll. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” He says to Fallon and Astarion gently.
Shadowheart, on the other hand, bristles at Astarion’s order and folds her arms across her chest. “Last I checked, you don’t live here either, Astarion.” She says cooly, daring the vampire or Fallon to tell her differently.
Fallon is still unable to do anything other than focus on making sure oxygen enters lungs. “For now, I do, while we prepare to leave for Velrea. Now get out before I throw you out.” Astarion threatens, and they’ve all known each other long enough to know that Astarion will make good on that threat if provoked.
“Fine,” her tone is icy, and Fallon could swear the temperature in the room actually drops ten degrees. “Fallon, I’ll come by later to try this again while your dog is out hunting for his supper.” Fallon jumps slightly when the Shadowheart slams the door behind her as she leaves.
“Is it just me, or has our dear cleric become more prickly since she and Lae’zel moved in together?” Astarion huffs haughtily. He turns to look at Fallon. “Are you alright?”
His tone is much softer now, as though the second any perceived threat towards Fallon disappeared all of his anger went with it. She’s quiet for a moment, chewing on her lip.
“What did she mean earlier?”
“I’m going to need you to be more specific, darling.” Fallon looks up and into Astarion’s eyes. “When she said she didn’t realize it was still this bad?”
Astarion takes pause, a surprised look on his face, as though he didn’t even realize Fallon heard what their friend said at all.
“I mean…surely even you can recognize what a mess you’ve been since Ga— since he left. She— I— we, all thought you’d…” He hesitates to even finish his sentence.
“You all thought I’d be over it by now,” She nods and swallows before letting out a dark laugh. “You think I’m weak.”
Astarion sighs with a hint of frustration. “No, Fallon, that’s not it at all. It’s not that we think you’re weak, it’s that we’ve only ever known you to be stronger than this. You have to understand, darling, we spent a year of our lives watching you fiercely and fearlessly lead us across The Sword Coast in order to save the world,”
Fallon wraps her arms around herself, and rubs her hands over her arms. She averts her eyes from Astarion’s, embarrassed to hear how she must have disappointed her friends all these months. Astarion reaches forward and tilts her chin up so she’s looking at him.
“You showed so much strength, even when all seemed lost and like it was the end. That’s the only Fallon we’ve ever known. We’ve been to the hells and back, and it never broke your spirit like this has.”
Fallon understands why her friends would think she’d be so indifferent to having her heart broken. Fallon had put on a brave face for her companions at every turn, because she couldn’t stand the idea of them perceiving her to be weak. When she finally broke down crying, it was either in isolation where nobody would catch her, or in his arms. Karlach also witnessed her break once; after she failed to save Yenna, the little girl that made herself at home in their camp after her mother went missing, only to be brutally killed by Orin, disguised as Lae’zel. He’d gone down in a fight and had wounds that needed serious mending, so Fallon was already on edge when Orin made her move. Burying Yenna just brought everything bubbling to the surface, and she broke down right there in front of the little girl’s grave.
Even so, Astarion is right. She’s faced so much worse than a broken heart, and even the things she cried about in private were far worse than this. Yet none of those moments have a hold on her psyche the way that day on the docks does. “It’s not like I never cried back then, you know. I’m not heartless. I just didn’t want you all to see.”
“Well yes, I don’t think anyone who has spent time with you would call you heartless, but you always bounced back. We’d have a hard day, you’d disappear to have a cry, and the next day you’d be fine.”
Fallon gapes at him. “You all knew that when I went off on my own that I was upset and none of you came after me?” She doesn’t know whether to be offended or pleased that they respected her need for space.
“Don’t look so scandalized. Wyll tried to go after you once, after one of the days we spent down in The Grymforge; but the rest of us just kind of agreed that if you’d truly wanted company, you would have asked, and that was that,” he explains with a wave of his hand. “The point I’m trying to make is that you are so much stronger than you think you are, and knowing that you don’t believe that about yourself kills me,”
He lowers his hand to her shoulder, and raises the other to rest on its twin. “And I could honestly kill himfor breaking you so thoroughly that a year later, the mere mention of his name puts you in a panic. You didn’t deserve that, and he never deserved you.”
In all the time Fallon has known Astarion, she can count on one hand the number of times she’s seen this level of sincerity from the vampire.. She can see the weight of his words in his eyes, and it’s mixed with something else she can’t quite place at first. Though the longer she looks into his eyes, the more she begins to understand. At least she thinks she does.
Without another thought to second guess her gut, Fallon reaches up to cup Astarion’s face in her hands, and she kisses him.

1990s Techno Playlist
Small update for this 1990s techno playlist, with some offerings from two of Germany’s greatest labels: Tresor, which is home to the iconic Tresor club in Berlin, and Harthouse, a now-defunct, mostly trance and techno outfit from Frankfurt that was co-founded by the legendary Sven Väth.
From Harthouse, I’ve got a really lush and dubby cut from this Vancouver duo called Off and Gone, who put out some material in the mid-90s under that name and a couple others, and then returned with a new album in 2019. Their 1996 song “Shasta” has under 1,000 plays on Spotify and it is *very* good.
And from Tresor comes the magnum opus of Stockholm’s Aril Brikha, “Groove La Chord,” which has racked up over 750,000 plays on Spotify. It was first released on Detroit pioneer Derrick May’s Transmat sublabel Fragile, but it was also included on a release called Tresor.2000 Compilation Vol. 8.
And I was also able to add The Advent’s “Sketched for Life (Salsa Mix),” which I’d added to the YouTube version of this playlist before, but it looks like it was also just recently added to Spotify in the past few months as well. It’s another sweet techno tune with under 1,000 plays on Spotify, and it can be found on a Tresor compilation called Annex 3, which is a series that saw the label making tracks from their catalog available on CD for the first time.
Off and Gone - “Shasta” Aril Brikha - “Groove La Chord” The Advent - “Sketched for Life (Salsa Mix)”
I also added all of those songs to the YouTube version of this playlist too, plus another one that’s not on Spotify: a total stomper from ‘96 by Hesse, Germany’s Patrick Lindsey called “Prepare to Jam.” Out of all the tracks in this week’s update, that one, by far, goes the hardest 🙂.
Patrick Lindsey - “Prepare to Jam”
Playlist is also on YouTube Music.
Now, here’s the thing: Spotify mostly sucks for killer old school techno. My playlist on there only has 31 songs that end up clocking in at over three and a half hours. But my YouTube playlist currently has 65 songs and is now at over *seven hours.* And I’m really only just getting started with this thing 😅. So, if you want a lot more techno, check out the YouTube playlist rather than the Spotify one.
And if both three and a half and seven hours feels like *way* too much techno to handle, I totally get it. So, consider checking out this playlist of techno tunes instead, which consists only of tracks from the year 1996. I’ve got it on both YouTube and YouTube Music. It’s only ten songs long and clocks in at an hour.
Enjoy!
More to come, eventually. Stay tuned!

Rules: list your ten favorite albums of all time and tag ten people to list theirs!
When it comes to music I would usually see a meme like this and start thinking of all the ways I could wax eloquently abt my favorite albums, but I am currently depleted of my ability to write atm bc i am mentally maxed out due to school, so here have the short version in no particular order.
The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. Fell in love with mcr the first time I saw them singing 'I'm not okay' on mtv2, but it wasn't really until Black Parade that I loved every song on one of their albums. I don't skip a single one when I listen to this.
The Archandroid by Janelle Monae. Love Janelle's older stuff more than her newer music with this album at the top. It's just a mixture of exactly what I like. Weird, quirky, and profound all at the same time.
Figure 8 by Elliott Smith. This album has always been great writing inspiration for me. His music, but this album in particular, appears on many of my mental and also actual playlists for my blorbos.
Little Plastic Castle by Ani DiFranco. When I was 18, I saw this album ranked as one to buy by some music magazine and so when I saw it a few months later at a CD store in the mall (remember those? or maybe you don't, you're all probably younger than me) I bought it on a whim. It was a good buy from my many MANY impulsive music buys over the years, bc it started my love for Ani's music. It was also my first foray into music that was somewhat against my upbringing ie conservative evangelical christian. Since then, I've seen Ani 6 times in concert and it's always been a good show.
Feel Good by The Internet. This is just the type of R&B that I love. Like Janelle Monae, it's a little strange with 8-minute-long songs that take twists and turns until they eventually morph into a completely different song, but it's an album I can play from start to finish.
When the Pawn ... by Fiona Apple. One of the few albums I wish I could get on vinyl but it's just way too expensive to justify spending on something i could easily listen to on the CD I bought ages ago (or more likely listening to on spotify). This album has been there for me at my lowest. Sometimes hearing someone else sing about bad breakups and being angry and sad over someone who hurt you, helps you cope with all the times you've had a fight with your SO or had a friend who ghosted you.
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire. Really sad that Win Butler turned out to be a garbage human bc I love this album, but find it hard to listen to now, knowing the band's lead singer is awful. There were other ppl in the band tho (a lot actually, it's a big band) so I figure I'll still add this album to my list for them and to be honest to myself.
Apollo 18 by They Might Be Giants. Flood was the first album I bought by tmbg, but Apollo 18 is the album I can listen to all the way through with the song Narrow Your Eyes being my fav. Considering how weird their music can get, Narrow Your Eyes is a pretty straightforward break-up song on an album that also contains songs like The Statue Got Me High and Hall of Heads.
The Con by Tegan and Sara. Call It Off is one of my most played songs ever, but this whole album is good and was my introduction to them. This was one of the last CDs I actually bought before I started just downloading everything with iTunes and then eventually moving on over to Spotify and buying vinyl.
Blackout by Britney Spears. Good for working out to when I used to work out and I just really love the song Heaven on Earth.
Honorable Mentions: Exile in Guyville by Liz Phair, Bionic by Christina Aguilera, Absolution by Muse, OK Computer by Radiohead, Same Trailer Different Park by Kacey Musgraves, Hounds of Love by Kate Bush, Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood, and Actor by St. Vincent
I tag: @trashangel-dee @alphamano @bethanyactually @ladybender @selkiestorytelleracademia @theangrypomeranian @vanessarama @leaving-a-comment and @dj-osha
And anyone else who would like to do this. Even if we're not mutuals go ahead and tag me. I'm always interested in seeing others' musical tastes.

A No Man's Sky RP/Ask Blog following the journeys of two Travellers, Raskol and Onfim, also known as the Twin-Iterations.
Character references and info under the cut, as well as a deeper dive into the blog as a whole. Some liberties may be taken with No Man's Sky's storyline and lore.
-{{ Iteration: Raskol }}-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pronouns: They/Them
Specialties: Astrocartography, Cosmology, Language, Agriculture, Communications.
Raskol is an incredibly old Traveller, one who claims to have been around since the early days; they have lived more lifetimes than they care to count. Taciturn and a bit socially stunted, it was until very recently that Raskol largely kept to themself. They dip their hands into many different projects and fields, but their work begins and ends with, well, the beginning and end of the universe. Known for being particularly grumpy, Raskol is finally learning how to relax and be a bit more... well, fun. It's probably the Nipnip. Particularly sensitive to the v̴͔͒̕ͅo̵͓͑̉i̵̧͇͋̊d̵̗̻̆.
Trivia:
Commander of Korvax freighter CS-16 Parhelion
Overseer of Korvax settlement Okinowa's Blight
Primary starship is a Sentinel Interceptor, callsign: Purged-EVA
Often settles on paradise, swamp, or desert planets
Runs a pirate radio station alongside Onfim; Raskol broadcasts from Isdoraijung Galaxy
Cultivated a strain of Nipnip that will knock your boots off
Spent many lifetimes convinced they were a Korvax entity
Difficult to anger, but their anger sure is terrifying

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pronouns: They/It
Specialties: Tech Development, Mechanics, Piracy, Smuggling, Hacking and Data Siphoning.
A much younger Traveller, Onfim met the early legs of their journey with unbounded enthusiasm and optimism. They were reckless and feared little. Onfim loved to dig for information, to pull things apart and study them, but trouble only followed when they dug too far and found only c̵͚͖̝̈́r̸͚̀̇i̵̗͐̒m̷̨̧͑s̴͈͚͗̿o̴̬̜̅n̶͖̓͐̈́ and g̷̩͂̀l̴̡̠͊̔͝a̵̭̲̻͗ś̴̢̄s̵̗̱̀̇. They're back now, though, feeling more stable and yet incredibly discordant. The more social of the Twin-Iterations, Onfim is eager to meet with others and constantly be in a crowd.
Trivia:
Commander of Korvax freighter CS-22 Tresserhorn
Overseer of Vy'Keen settlement Sajiru's Crossing
Primary starship is a particularly nasty Sentinel Interceptor, callsign: Hellrider
Frequently settles on paradise, dissonant, or anomalous planets
Runs a pirate radio station alongside Raskol; Onfim broadcasts from Eissentam Galaxy
A bit of a silly goose to the point of being a menace to society
Deathly afraid of lightning storms
Their physical form seems to stutter, glitch, and lag

-{{ OOC Blog Info }}-
Hi, call me Shy! I'm the fool running this blog, my main is @blackcr0wking, and I have an art blog - @blackcr0wkingart - as well. I've been playing No Man's Sky since 2016, and have fallen off now and then, but currently play fairly actively on PS5. My PSN is saintvoid if anyone would like to add me and/or meet up!
Posts on this blog are made both in and out of character depending on content as well as my energy levels at the time. In- and out-of-character posts are usually tagged as such, though I tend to make clearer distinctions in the text of posts as well, as follows:
》 Raskol's broadcasts are denoted by purple symbols, and ten-.. -kzzkt- ..-o have very little interference.
-{{ Out of character text posts will be in brackets, like so. }}-
》 Onfim's broad-.. -kzzzkt- ..-oadcasts are marked with - with orange symbols, and their corrup-.. -kzzk- ..corrupted signal is - is - is evident in text.
I also have No Man's Sky playlists! Check them out here:
Fell Into A Black Hole But It's Fine // A simple, chill, lo-fi playlist with songs that felt (to me, at least) like calmly drifting through space in your starship, or slowly wandering planetside. Chill beats to explore the galaxy to, if you will.
Corrupted Starcharts // A little bit weird, a little bit sad, and a little bit silly, this playlist somewhat centers around my interpretation of both the canon of No Man's Sky's story, as well as the journeys Raskol and Onfim have undertaken. If I'm being completely honest, it's a collection of songs I'm picturing silly little NMS animations/music videos to. For best/most fun results, shuffle.
-{{ Tag Directory }}-
I'm a monster with an insatiable need to sort things, so I figured this could potentially be helpful to newcomers. Commonly used tags are as follows:
Answered Asks
Vibes
Other Travelers
Memes
Planetary Records
Artworks
Bases
Filler
Old NMS

And I think that about covers it, thanks for reading! Inbox is always open for questions and such both in- and out-of-character. :)
