the character everyone gets wrong

would it be cliche of the guy who wrote a whole long thing about how the doll is misunderstood to say the doll is misunderstood? probably. i'm going to anyway though.

i feel like a lot of folks sometimes miss or overlook the horrifying implications of the doll? i wonder if a partial reason the horror innate to her character slips through the cracks is because she falls into the "level-up maiden" trope of the soulsborne series; which seems to be comprised of generally soft-spoken and/or somewhat submissive feminine women who help the player progress (even if they have goals of their own). i'm not here to argue that my interpretation of her is objectively correct here - but i do think the takes that posit her as a willingly subservient idealized fantasy of a woman are... shallow at best? it feels like some folks piece together that doll is made in the image of a dead woman by gerhman, and then... simply do not wrestle with the Implications of that.

for another example of this, just see adella. she seems to be reduced to "yandere psycho" at her most complex in a lot of fan interpretations, despite so much evidence indicating that it's much deeper than that.

all these examples make me wonder if the sentiment, subconscious or otherwise, that women are "meant" to be submissive and gentle is what leads these portrayals to go unquestioned or seen as more "normal" than if it were a man in that position. even maria, a canonically gender nonconforming character, has people bending over backwards to explain how she is actually totally a good little gender conformer because she... wears a hair ribbon…? (i wish i was exaggerating that claim but that has Been in my inbox lmao)

Mostly, she does it for a laugh, but part of it is because her own memories of the event are spotty either due to sheer temporal distance or possibly repression. But there's something to be said for making the story of her life whatever she wants it to be, and who is left to contradict her? Maybe she tells Lilith somewhere along the way, or maybe she doesn't. And Lilith knows about secrets, so she respects and goes along with whatever version Ava tells.

Probably after the first century or two of living together, they start to notice the patterns in their arguments and write them down, and they will absolutely pull out these enormous, ancient as dirt books and find the exact page they need to gloat about this or that rhetorical victory.

I refer to a set of previous tags on who tops and how. They have a fist fight before sex and the winner tops. Ava can't die and Lilith heals pretty fast. Eventually, this evolves into playing dice or card games (but not Uno, since the Incident of 1998) or even doing household chores when neither are motivated to clean.

If the two of them were stomping about Roman Gaul, then they both know how to ride horses. Lilith definitely rides a horse better than she drives a car, and during the intervening years of being a bitty bat girl, she learns all about the different species of bats and how to talk to them. Sometimes a wild bat makes its way into their house, and Lilith will argue with it about breaking and entering.

Ava does ensure that Lilith always has the space and resources to leave if she really wants to. And maybe Lilith does disappear sometimes, for like a month or two, but she always comes back, and Ava is always waiting with a smile. Ava knows about loneliness and connection perhaps better than anyone on the planet, so she understands when Lilith needs to be alone and exactly how to welcome her back.

I love werewolf!Bea. When Beatrice comes into the ancient gay weirdness that is this relationship? Chaos, at first. Centuries of well-worm routines thrown out the window. Ava welcomes it, but Lilith is much more a creature of habit than she, and it's a difficult adjustment to say the least. Lots of fights. Lilith in bat form hissing and spitting while flapping above wolf!Bea growling and threatening to bite her right out of the air. Ava becomes an animal wrangler in a way she never imagined being.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Mercy Thompson series and its lore regarding werewolves, because they don't age but time is their enemy because it can slowly drive them crazy. And if Bea is aware of this and then meets these two shockingly old immortals still behaving relatively normally, it might give her hope for her own chances. And Bea would be a helpful blood source for Lilith in emergencies when Lilith isn't able to hunt for whatever reason, since wolves are strong and heal quickly. Their own relationship starts like that and grows from there until Bea is seamlessly integrated into the throuple like she was always there.

pretty much never, i guess. i had crushes on girls since kindergarten, then in 2nd grade i was told girls could only like boys, so i tried my best to be straight even though in my heart i knew i wasn’t. since i couldn’t make myself like boys, i kinda just ignored the idea of liking anyone at all until middle school, when i found out what the word “lesbian” means online. of course, all the stuff i found about lesbians called us disgusting perverts, so i went through many phases of calling myself literally anything else but a lesbian. i’ve only started using the word lesbian specifically in the last few years, especially since i joined an amazing discord group. i love them so much, they’ve helped me feel so proud of being a lesbian <3

exist. 

jk lmao, i’m honestly not annoyed by straight people, but i like making jokes as if i am. it’s hard to annoy me in general, i’ve got a high tolerance for that type of stuff. if i have to answer, i hate it when strangers (usually straight men) pry into my sex life, but i’m not really annoyed by that as much as i am creeped out.

yes, . .. my snelf . .. .. i love her so much. she is my OG. well, not my OG, my OG is mijia, a khajiit from when i first played the game, but when i got back into TES (through ESO), the first character i made was rye bread, and then i made her in skyrim.

to run through her backstory very briefly. she’s an immortal vampire snow elf who escaped the dwemer and roamed for years avoiding the threats that wiped the majority of the falmer out until she came to realize that she’s one of the last; leading her to become desperate in trying to preserve her culture and society and revive it. mortality became an issue and she forced herself to become a vampire for extended life.

she lives for years, traveling across tamriel in search of any remaining Falmer and trying her best to recover all that was lost to mostly no avail. the jist of her traits is that she’s melancholic, studious, dignified, contemplative, reserved, and dedicated. that’s what i have on her character page so far, at least.

she’s an active WIP because lore is complicated and it’s hard to work on such a long-living character. she’s fucking ancient. like. 3,800+ years. if iirc, she’s around the same age as the tribunal? that fucks me up like on the daily. wow. what tf

guilty pleasures: she likes cocoa. she really doesn’t have much of a sweet-tooth but cocoa reminds her of her childhood plus it’s pretty damn good. i HC that vampires do lose a lot of their taste for things over-time due to not NEEDING to eat food to live (only blood) which is a shame but ryvrinei likes to indulge in it when she canshe also has an unusual knowledge of dogs. she’s a dog person.

ot3: i have,,, NO clue., you have to understand that i dont have many friends at all, so that projects onto my OCs, so it’s very hard for me to think of any more than a handful of friends and acquaintances for them. that is. very pitiful.

brotp: gelebor/ryvrinei and estryon/ryvrinei! initially, ryvrinei went through the dawnguard DLC alone and with no involvement from the last dragonborn, but i’ve decided, in order to jive with the small portions of the dawnguard DLC that rely on the existence of dragonborn powers and capability; ryvrinei accompanies estryon and serana on the final portion of it all, starting when the DB first meets gelebor, as ryvrinei found gelebor prior to the DB’s arrival. so that gives ryvrinei a reason to meet serana, meet estryon, while also knowing gelebor.you would figure estryon’s abrasive personality to clash with ryvrinei’s… better personality lmao but quite the opposite. they somehow worked well together. i think estryon liked the way ryvrinei saw things and meeting such an ancient and experienced mer such as ryvrinei led him to try and tone down his brash and rude tendencies. serana and estryon’s remote friendship took a bit of work, however.
