Shinee fucking ran so that kpop could walk and those are just the facts that everyone should accept.

They debuted when kpop had a very specific style and concept of what young boy groups could do in order to sell but Shinee really knocked on the doors with replay and as soon as they opened, they deadass shot out Lucifer and Ring DD and no body was prepared lmao.

They legitimately redefined kpop and I really don’t think they get enough credit for that? FROM DAY ONE, they had the most intricate and class choreographies in kpop. There’s a reason why shinee are called performance legends. It’s because you can pick any damn shinee choreography and it’s just so amazingly well executed; Not to mention they’re the first kpop idols who started releasing choreography practice videos and dancing without backup dancers which as y’all can see, has become the norm now.

Also, TILL DATE Shinee had the most packed schedule for any kpop rookie group ever. They were out there performing for 8 hours and then going back home just to rehearse for another 8. Their success was so unexpectedly high and they were literally teenagers handling all that fame. Taemin was a literal child with a bowl cut ffs. Also, don’t come for my bowl cut children, they looked PRECIOUS in the replay MV.

Even as early as 2011, Shinee being known as variety show and pilot experts because they’re naturally so funny and have a bond within them that easily puts people at ease and makes for one crazy episode with no chaos or anything “extra” per say. Just shinee being shinee is enough. In an industry where idols don’t even react to other female idols at award shows cause of the knetz, ya bois, Taemin and Minho really went fuck it and did whole collab stages with Sunmi and Yuri. The flex. Not to mention the way Shinee and especially Jonghyun & Taemin said a huge Fuck you to Korea’s oh so precious “masculine aura” and just went on with releasing pretty boy and Taemin saying makeup isn’t something for girls and that makeup is for all genders, a legend.

The way Shinee had fans in countries like Dubai, Russia, India and many many others at a time when kpop really wasn’t a thing? It was just Korean music for Koreans but shinee went ahead and did their thing and it broke language barriers as if they were air. It’s 2020 and Barack Obama talking about shinee still feels like a fever dream to me tbh.

Not even mentioning anything else now BUT just their music and it’s impact man?? The way shinee put out ALBUM after ALBUM with no rest and the fact being that, Every damn song they put out was a WHOLE BANGER.

Like?? SHINEE’S FUCKING DISCOGRAPHY??

JULIETTE, SHERLOCK, RING DD, REPLAY, LUCIFER, STRANGER, GOOD EVENING, VIEW, PICASSO, MARRIED TO THE MUSIC, WHY SO SERIOUS?? BRUH WHAT EVEN?

SHINEE songs that get covered by rookie idols everyday, mentioned by established idols as their inspiration during trainee days, songs that the entire population of Korea would know. Songs that trainees practice on for hours hoping that one day they too, would debut.

Shinee, a boygroup who’s know as the group who “made their own concepts” and everyone else simple followed.

And the craziest part is they are one of the longest standing groups in kpop, been together for 12 whole years and are still as relevant and iconic as ever. The fact that all five members have so much solo potential and even then nothing trivial like fame or money had ever seemed to break shinee up as a group is really a feat.

Taemin is no doubts THE best dancer and one of the most successful soloists in the entire kpop industry. A living legend tbh. His discography is hot, molten GOLD. Jonghyun’s VOCALS are liter-al-ly one of the strongest vocals in the entire industry and every damn shinee song is a proof of his sheer excellence as a main vocalist. Cue to Stranger. Onew deadass sang opera for a loaded audience once and left everyone shook and his 40 sec long note. Also, this man leads the chaos that is shinee, mad respect. Key’s rapping style is honestly so distinctive and HONEY that man can sing like his life depends on it. Not to mention kibum is a FASHION ICON. Also, his ‘born to shine’ solo stage. HE DID THAT. Minho really out there being a multi talented class act, who’s a main rapper but has vocals that could kill. Not only that, man be out here having acted in so many successful dramas.

Imma say this once and I want all you third gen kpop stans to print it out, Shinee did for kpop what no one else did so you might not stan them or listen to their music but the one thing your ass will do, IS RESPECT THEM. Respect shinee and everything that they went through in a time where kpop wasn’t shit and kpop artists were treated so heartlessly as if they were nothing but cash machines. Also they’re from SM so God knows what kinda shit that company has put them through and one can never imagine the sheer amount of pressure on the members to have been so young and so in pain but having no one to trust at the heights of their success; Imagine being loved and cheered on by thousands on a stage only to come back home to nothing but you and your head in the now deafening silence. Imagine waking up one day and finding out that a boy you spent half your lifetime with, shared your best and worst moments with, is suddenly gone? Just like that? AND THEN having the sheer fucking courage to go up in front of thousand teary eyes and questioning glances, leaving a microphone empty on a stage and while using his damn background vocals; singing your heart out to the songs he wrote under an aqua blue moon knowing, for sure, that what began in 2008 will never really end, ever.

THAT IS SHINEE. FIVE LEGENDS. PERIOD POINT BLANK.

The hate Blackpink gets is driven by internalized misogyny and here’s why

Blackpink. Basically the biggest girl group on the planet and one of the biggest groups in general, dominating the charts worldwide. Blackpink’s comeback, “How You Like That” broke world records for most viewed video in 24 hours and debuted no.2 on the Billboard charts. I’m sure “Lovesick Girls” charted as well or the same. The first kpop group to perform at Coachella, Blackpink have collabed with too many western artists for me to name (actually, I could probably name them but I could care less about some of these western artists so I’m not going to). I mean, not really a surprise, Blackpink has been breaking records since their debut in 2016. There’s not even really a point in introducing them to you since there’s literally no way you don’t know who they are.

Now like many celebrities, the more famous you become the more hate you get. I hope everyone knows that this is just bound to happen regardless if your favorite celebrity has never done anything problematic and consistently produces bop after bop. However, BP get some of the worst hate I have seen towards a kpop group and most of it coming from kpop fans and blinks themselves. I’ve heard it from my close friends, from randos on stan twitter, and from locals. So, I have a bone to pick with y’all haters because I truly don't understand.

Let me start with saying that I’m not a blink. I’m kinda far from it. I like bp and I will definitely click on their stuff when it comes out but I am in no way shape or form an actual stan. I wouldn’t buy their stuff or cry over their achievements, though it does make me somewhat proud. But even though I’m not a blink, I find myself defending these girls whenever someone tries to start shit.

Ok, so from what I could gather from scouring the internet, harassing my friends, and looking through twitter, people hate bp for mainly these reasons: they hate Jennie, they think bp are overrated and overhyped, they “are not serving what they could serve” (yes, I quoted this from my friend), they’re basically models not idols, their fans suck, and BIG 3 privilege. There’s actually a lot more reasons that I found by looking at a “why do you hate blackpink?” quora thread but these are the easiest to tackle. I’m here to tell you that most of this hate if not all of it comes from misogyny. To be more specific, internalized misogyny because most of this hate comes from female kpop fans.

Disclaimer: I did not research which demographic hates on bp the most but from personal experience, it has always been women who share their distaste for bp. Ok, moving on.

I’m going to tackle the reasons I laid out one by one, hopefully well enough that you look back and see if the reason why you hate bp is out of just simple dislike for their music or because you hate women. There’s a big difference if you didn’t notice. If you get offended by this piece then that’s on you not me, just saying.

Ok, first reason. You hate Jennie? Is that so? May I ask why you hate her so much? What exactly has she done to you that you have such a strong hatred for her? Is it because she’s lazy? Because she’s not doing what she’s capable of? I need reasons. I really do need some reasons before I label you off as someone struggling with internalized misogyny. Jokes aside, I don’t see how you can hate someone you’ve never met. I think most of the time we forget that you literally don’t know these people. I don’t know my favorite kpop boys and you definitely don’t know my good sis Jennie. I could make a whole other piece on the fake images and personalities these idols have and how we eat them up but whatever.

Back to Jennie, you literally don’t know her. This whole Jennie is lazy argument is bs, pure shit if you ask me. You have no way of knowing what’s going on in her life. I’m pretty sure you’ve had bad days, bad weeks, maybe even bad months. You forget her job is draining, mentally and physically. She’s got dances to memorize, songs to memorize, fans to deal with and communicate with. She has a social media presence, she still has to practice and train (idols don’t just stop practicing once they debut). I know my body would not be able to withstand that no matter how long I trained; I’d drop dead immediately. The matter of fact is there are a ton of reasons why she wasn’t performing up to YOUR standards, which is a whole other can of worms since you’re probably on your bed doing nothing. It’s almost like y’all forgot sickness and fatigue is a thing.

And even if the reason wasn’t a medical reason, you can’t let my good sis be lazy for once??? The thing is everyone acts like they’ve never been lazy in their entire life. You’re telling me you’ve never not wanted to do nothing for no good reason? Lies, you’re fucking lying. Ok so what if she doesn’t feel like doing the move with that much energy. Let her live?? All I’m saying is you’d probably survive 5 days in the kpop industry with your lazy ass. And don’t try to hit me with the “but that’s her job she has to perform at 100% all the time” because I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to be failing your classes or pretending to be sick to get out of class. It’s the hypocrisy of it all. All if you had to perform the same song for a year, I’m sure you’d get sick of it too (fuck you YG).

The reason why you hold Jennie to ridiculous standards is because of your ~ misogyny ~. Yes, it’s showing. Especially if you don’t hold male idols to the same level as Jennie. Female idols on the daily are held to ridiculous standards when it comes to their performances. One hair out of place and all of a sudden the knetz come holding their pitchforks. Gfriend slipping on the stage, something caused by literal rain, is still laughed at to this day and mocked. Jang Gyuri on Produce 48 had a voice crack that was edited and replayed to death on the show, ending in her elimination because she couldn’t recover from it. Meanwhile male idols make a mistake on stage and it’s like “Omg, a babie! Omg, that’s so funny!”. I don’t think I can think of any moment where male idols got shit because of a stage mistake. If anything he’s just babied and posted on twitter. My point is female idols are always shat on no matter what they do. Jennie is no exception.

Now the second point, bp is overrated and overhyped. Umm, so this point is a little harder to flat out say you’re wrong, mostly because it depends on your own personal taste. If bp’s music is not for you then it might be easy to say that they’re overrated since they’re literally the biggest girl group in the world. The nuances come with the reasons behind this statement. I’m not going to address if you just dislike their music, I can’t really change your opinion on that. I will however, address if the reason behind you saying they’re overrated is because their music sounds “generic” and you don’t think they’re talented, or if you don’t think they deserve their fame because of their small discography and short promotion periods.

The statement that all four of the bp members are untalented is just false. Wrong. W-R-O-N-G. Don’t mind me just spelling it out for you. Listen, to be able to debut you have to have some sort of talent. No one really debuts without any talent at all (for record yes I’m including visual as being a talent, sue me and leave hate idc). The only reason why someone with no talent would debut is if they had a HUGE fan base before debut and the company was trying to capitalize on it. I can name a few examples but I’m not trying to start shit. These fan bases could show up from predebut commercials, acting gigs, or reality shows. Blackpink had none of that, sure a few of them had appearances in other mv’s but I wouldn’t consider that abnormal in companies’ promotion tactics. Bp went through the typical trainee process. They passed the auditions, trained for a couple of years, and debuted. Now if you knew anything about the trainee process you would know that trainees have monthly evaluations. These monthly evaluations determine whether or not you can make it to debut. If you don’t show progress, then you’re getting the boot. So the fact that bp made it up to the final levels of evaluation and actually debuted indicates that these girls have talent, I’m sorry to say. Objectively, these girls can dance, sing, and rap. Maybe they’re not the best in the industry, I never said that but they are capable of doing all 3 things. Also they come from YG and as much as I hate YG, they’ve got trainees for dayssssss. YG’s status and income did not rely on these girls debuting, they could’ve picked anyone out of their 100 trainees they’ve got in the dungeon. If anything it’s way more competitive to debut in any of the Big 3 companies. It’s like picking the best of the best. If you’re saying these girls are not talented then maybe check yourself a little bit to see why you’re exactly saying that. I’m assuming you won’t be able to do anything better than them.

The other three points were that their music is generic, their discography is small and their promotions are short. Well, in that case say fuck YG? You’re really acting like these girls produce their own music, make their own choreos and schedule their own promotions. Like wtf? That’s what their companies are for? The way that everyone chooses to ignore YG and their staff and immediately put blame on the girls like they get to choose what they do is ridiculous. Now I know not everyone does this, but the amount of people I’ve seen say bp is overrated because of their discography is a lot. But y’all really out here acting like they make their own discography smh. Yell at Teddy? Yell at YG? I’ve been yelling at those mfers because they’re not giving bp what they deserve. There’s no surprise when I say what they’ve been giving bp is subpar in terms of choreo and vocal ability in songs. I know those girls can do so much more. I don’t even wanna talk about the pretty savage choreo. I don’t. But this is no reason to hate on them? It’s like if I hated a starbucks barista for starbucks having a pumpkin spice latte. Like ????

Even the hate that they receive because they get sponsorships and ads makes no sense. You don’t want them to make coin? A huge part of what comes with being famous is brand sponsoring. Brands pay you to promote their stuff because hello, you’re famous. So the fact that you don’t want them to do this is first of all wack but also again you’re acting like these girls choose the sponsorships and choose when to go on these trips. YG. MFING YG. I don’t think y’all understand how much control these companies have over their idols. Company says drink water, you drink water. Company says stop breathing and you stop breathing. You do whatever your company says you have to do. That’s your boss.

So why don’t y’all start hating the producers, choreographers, and management instead. Why focus your hate on these four girls? I won’t spell it out for you again but I hope you get the jist. Most of the time it’s way more easy to attack the woman when she has nothing to do with anything. Society tells you to direct your complaints to the girl involved. You see a male celebrity start dating and who gets attacked? The girl. A girl gets cheated on in a movie by her boyfriend and who does she attack? The girl he cheated with. It’s internalized misogyny luv, yes I ended up spelling it out for you. For real, the girls just breathe and y’all scream at them.

Final point about the big 3 privilege and fanbase. You have every right to not stan a group because of their fanbase. What you don’t have a right to do is hate on them and leave nasty comments on their posts. First, that’s fan behavior. Second, if you’re gonna do this keep the same energy for people who want to do this with your group. I’m talking about every group because every idol group got some wack ass fans. You shouldn’t hate a group because their fanbase is annoying, they don’t get to pick and choose their fans. So, don’t be a hypocrite ok :) Now big 3 privilege. Ah big 3 privilege. Yes, it exists. There’s no denying it. Big 3 privilege doesn’t really die out in my opinion. For as long as they’re still active, bp will have big 3 privilege. But just with any other sort of privilege, if you have it might as well use it. Listen, if I was white you know I’d be eating up my white privilege I’m not gonna lie. Jokes aside, bp has worked extremely hard. Yes, they have the big 3 privilege but they still have to perform these concerts, shows, and go to these interviews and train. As much as you’d like to disagree with me, I think that it’s a very objective to say that they have worked hard.

I think it’s important to acknowledge how hard it is to get into these companies in the first place. You’re not born into it like a lot of social privileges people have. You have to audition. There are so many idols that have tried to get into these big companies but have failed. Now I’m not saying that these idols are not as talented as the ones that get into these big companies. Most of the time, these idols aren’t ready at the time of their audition and work harder on their own before trying out other companies. The big 3 get their trainees at very young age, which means these kids have to be either geniuses or show an incredible amount of promise. They’re the big 3 for a reason, they’ve been around the longest and have the most experience. They can see a future idol in the making relatively quickly. So yeah bp have big 3 privilege but they’ve worked hard, sacrificed their childhood, and get shat on just as much as your kpop idols. They’ve just got a fancy name behind them that doesn’t even make good choices promoting them anyways. It’s not a valid reason to hate them because of this, just saying.

Most of the hate bp gets is brought upon by the idea that our patriarchal society has ingrained in us. Women = bad, yell at them vs. men = good, don’t yell at them. We hate seeing women succeed. It’s as simple as that. Seeing powerful women dominate the industry they’re in scares us to our core. We don’t like it. I’m just here to bring light to it.

Ah knets. I've seen them tear someone down so bad to the point of no return but they never learn. Some do but it's like their past time, digging someone's past then revealing it so they can feel better about themselves. Thing is, a lot of countries are like this but I've never seen this kind of dedication from anyone else (except UK ig)

My understanding of this is that Koreans have this strong sense of communal control that justifies people punishing each other even before actual law enforcement has anything to say about the matter. Koreans don’t trust their own law enforcement much, but seem to place their own understanding of morals, social norms and etiquette above that. That creates this “masses know best” effect, which in turn makes it possible for them to start protesting against something rather seamlessly - aka. if they think something threatens their common interests. So they’re good at defending themselves against common enemy, but their biggest threat comes from within their group, from individuals who defy the norms of the group and therefore disturb their peace and unity. It seems to be the biggest possible crime you can think of: breaking the implicitly agreed social standards and norms in a very public way. See Wonho’s example: everybody was fine with him having a “shady” past (or whatever) as long as it wasn’t ever explicitly talked about. They were totally cool with him doing a bit of this and that as a teenager, but becoming a public role model and then being exposed to the last detail, years after? Considering the reactions of Koreans it was almost like he fucking murdered someone, and it was suddenly everybody’s literal civic duty to express their utter disdain, shock, mock and disbelief, even though everything he was accused of just made me... scratch the back of my head, at most, because of how meaningless it literally was.

Like honestly just a few days ago I had a knetizen waltz into my inbox (I literally don’t know how they even found my blog and how deeply involved with uselessness they had to be to find it) and used like literally the strongest possible wording to imply that Wonho absolutely cannot come back ever “ 근데 니네 오빠 절대 못 돌아올꺼야 “ and I was like... why the hell do these Koreans have to be so dramatic over something so insignificant we might literally be talking about ass hairs at this point. But no, to them it’s a communal rule being very visibly broken and they’re now flipping tables and seat mats and bowls of bibimbap and yeah, well you get the point.

And the stupidest thing about that whole phenomenon is that it’s not about anyone actually breaking any rules. The accusation is enough, because that alone brings up disturbance of peace. Allegations are enough of a dealbreaker, because according to this logic, conformity, unity and upholding the status quo is the only thing that truly matters. “If you had been good enough, no one would accuse you of anything anyway, right?” No smoke without fire kind of logic. Except that there might have been no smoke, either, just one one-sided confession that had questionable motives.

And I mean? I wouldn’t mind if Wonho had been accused of something... well, actually criminal. I’m ready to take the potential victim’s side if it’s about rape, murder, sexual harassment or other serious assaults, because catching the real perpetrator in that case is more important than trying to maintain an individual’s reputation. But there was just a weird controversial statement about singular weed use and then false rumors on top of that? Allegations that apparently had been waiting for six convenient years to be brought up, now that all the proof had for certain disappeared? Lord miss me with that bullshit.

But obviously this is also about a bunch of sasaengs showing twisted and childish solidarity to their own favourite groups. Like. Obviously undereducated teenagers who have paid fuckton of money to support their own oppas and eonnis are going to literally pee their pants from happiness if a powerful group like Monsta X is removed from their way and they can continue to try to... well what ever they’re even trying to achieve. Like yeah, kpop groups are trying to beat each other in the same exact game, overpower each other in the same music genre, trying to win the same exact prizes, find concert venues in a very limited list of suitable places... so their anti fans would love to create scandals and crises so that their own morally pure group could then shine in stead and rise over all the others.

But I mean, that shit is going to hit their own group at some point, too, so it just proves they’re very short-sighted, instant-gratification-seeking childish twats. Also? It’s very, very Korean to think only the most, most popular groups ever even deserve to exist. Most less popular groups have a relatively steady fanbase internationally, but they are not at all visible in Korea, because Koreans only count those who can constantly break records and become number ones in literally everything. Which, yeah, stems from their general culture, where everything and everyone is ranked. Universities are ranked, students are ranked, restaurants, stores, skincare products... and it’s embarrassing to admit you’re not getting A+ scores in your every single exams you’ve ever done. It’s embarrassing to not be graduating from SKY universities. It’s embarrassing to not be the first in everything, because only number ones can ever be celebrated or praised. The entire culture is encouraging everyone to be extremely competitive and gamble through their entire lives in order to gain social currency (hence those silly little games in every variety show or fucking trying-to-decide-where-to-eat videos idols release).

So... as a foreigner, it just feels stupid, awkward and unnecessary, because obviously the game is going to become more and more intense and serious the more players are in it and the longer it continues, which then means the smallest flaws and mistakes in the game can suddenly gain such enormous proportions. And here I am thinking I literally do not give a single fuck whether my own fav group becomes as popular as BTS because there’s only one number one but billions of competitors and it’s a waste of time, money and effort if only one position in the entire planet is enough to satisfy you.

Then again? If knetz literally choose to make their own life paths as hard and unforgiving as possible, there’s nothing I can do about that. It’s going to hurt them the worst at some point, and I can’t say I’d necessarily run out of my way to help them when it’s their time to take in all the hits.

I need to rant. Like really rant. I am sorry if some of you get offended but i need this.

First of all, what the hell TOP? WHY????????????

I know you just wanted to have fun but really? REALLY NOW? Why in front of a freaking witness who herself is nothing and cares NOTHING about you?

Let’s be honest here people, except for a few hypocritical nasty-ass knetz and inetz nobody thinks that smoking pot is a big issue. Its nothing even close to what Hollywood celebs take on a regular basis.

BUT it’s freaking SOUTH KOREA and you are a freaking IDOL! South koreans disses idols even when they fart loudly or smile with all their teeth shown and there you break the bloody LAW? When you actually know about it? This is nuts! Why would you do that and ruin your freaking career? Ruin the reputation of your members and your group?

You saw how hard it was for GD. You were always scolding and warning seungri to be careful and now u do something as stupid as this? I expected carelessness from everyONE except for you TOP. And I know you apologized and not making any excuses but the mark of a criminal would always be there. How on earth are you gonna remove it?

I would always love you guys and the music you make and its true that no group lasts forever or stay on top. BUT you guys could. because you are bigbang, BUT now, haters are gonna rile up the fans. Other fandoms are gonna take advantage and soon the icon of Bigbang could be replaced. You guys are not in your prime anymore. Once was okay but twice when there are groups out there who has plenty of time to establish strong competition? I honestly don’t know.

And that is not even the worst possible scenario. Bom and 2ne1 DISBANDED over sth so minor. What if sth like that happens? I know you were under a lot of stress and you wanted to relax before you go to the military but why leave a bloody witness? I honestly don’t know what was going on inside your head TOP but this shit is bananas.

Now GD has to suffer because u thought making a dumb mistake like that was okay. Its just my assumption but I think it was a ploy to hurt GD more than to hurt TOP since a lot of people didn’t like the fact that GD bounced back from a drug scandal without major implications so they waited on baited breath. Often throwing scandals of seungri here and there to keep the pot warm. They just needed one more lethal weapon to throw at him and then TOP served himself on a platter. Bam! In one move, they didn’t only made GD look like an incompetent leader but also completely dampen his comeback hype. Whoever did this planned carefully to sabotage all of VIP and BB’s hard work over the years since 2011.

ANYWAY, i don’t wanna make this any longer because what’s done is done and nothing can change the past. All I desperately hope and wish right now that this shit blows over soon. TOP will be in military for two years and that will probably enough time to cool things down. I am kinda scared about GD and I hope like hell that he takes care of his loose strings and don’t be so freaking careless on trusting random people again. I mean people talk shit about them for always keeping it to themselves and not making friends. Look at what happened. Whoever they trust, they screw them over. Royally screw them over. TOP should have just stick to having his chairs and paintings as friends since they would never rat on him like a stupid tattle-tale nobody. Seungri, taeyang, daesung, G-dragon- all of them needs to be super careful and be on their guard when they are doing something they are not supposed to be doing, at least not in south korean standards. I REALLY REALLY hope it doesn’t blow over to be bigger than it is and goes to the worst possible scenario cz istg I won’t be able to take it. I have suffered too much already after joining kpop. First time, when 3 exo members left one after another. Second time, when 2ne1 disbanded. I hope there is no 3rd time cz if there is, I don’t think I will be able to survive and will ever join kpop again.

To all the haters, I literally have no time for your shit cz I know you will say the same thing like a broken record and be just a scumbag no matter what the truth is so f*** off.

To the fake ass VIPs, door is that way. If you don’t wanna be with TOP then u r not with BB either. Thanks for your brief stay.

To the actual real VIPS and TOP stans, whatever happens next, we will face it together. Whatever happens next, we are not going to single out a certain member of start nit-picking on flaws or who did what. We will show the power of VIPs and the power of quality, unique and original music that BB has given us all through the years. For now let’s concentrate on G-dragon’s comeback. He worked hard for this and he deserves to be in the limelight. I am not gonna let this matter overshadow that and neither should you VIPs. Let’s make taeyang’s comeback a success, Seungri’s comeback a success, daesung’s concert a success. let’s show the haters that we are not afraid of them and their hypocritical asses.
