the hunger games au! anakins confidence! obi-wan being the mentor! the fact that they’re together BEFORE anakin even gets picked!
poor robin tho lol :( but you know the games go on for like 12 hours longer while Anakin waits for someone else to kill her. In theory it’s because of his ruse with the capital, but it’s definitely just for obi-wan. So really, obi-wan did help her live longer than she would have otherwise, from a certain point of view.
also obi-wan definitely finds it romantic that anakin let someone else kill her & rewards him for it after the games ;)
(also for a sec i thought maybe the other girl would be padme & maybe anakin used to like her and is briefly sad & padme is a master manipulator and makes obi-feel like shit for choosing to let her die (making anakin hate her lol) and also making obi-wan feel super insecure about the ruse and also maybe really petty and bitchy? and she’s also really popular in the capital and canon padme isn’t a terrible fighter either)(maybe padme pretends to be (or is) pregnant and she pretends their anakins and obi-wan is SO insecure and/or seeing red)
lmao sorry for the massive ask the hunger games awaken something terrible in me
oo i think maybe a braver writer would probably have made anakin's other tribute padmé, and i guess there's still time for that, but i didn't want to for a couple of reasons, hence using a made up oc instead
i think the tug of guilt obi-wan would feel over having a preferred victor (anakin) and giving them both trainings but then really carefully only campaigning for sponsors to take a look at anakin, not the other tribute.....because anakin needs funds for a blanket, anakin needs food, obi-wan is watching anakin suffer and any second he may have to watch him die.... he feels guilty about the other tribute but he cannot watch anakin die....like that's enough guilt for obi-wan, i don't think specifically padmé could make him feel worse
also i think another reason i didn't choose padmé was because i didn't want anyone to think anakin used to like her lol this anakin is not normal this anakin is a creep this anakin was like. fourteen, saw obi-wan being all pathetic and sad and decided if obi-wan wasn't going to take advantage of him anakin was going to take advantage of obi-wan, worm his way into his confidences and affections and then never ever leave like this is not a boy who had a crush on any sort of padmé amidala he would not be sad he is not capable of being sad about the other tribute this is not a normal dude and tbh its easier to just. not have her in the story than to push back against that all the time
or i think i'd have her as part of the capitol who works with obi-wan to overturn palpatine once the rebellion is going on, but i think she would find anakin off-putting because he's 100% creep but not a creep who is in love with her and it just actually makes her uncomfortable to be in a room with him. asks obi-wan to blink twice if he needs rescuing. obi-wan blinks a lot of times because he's confused as to how anyone could ever need saving from anakin
anakin wouldn't hurt a fly

Yeah, I mean, Quinlan was theoretically on Tatooine to do SOMETHING, investigating the Hutts maybe, or helping with abolition movements, who knows. There's no reason to think the Jedi WOULDN'T be willing to have somebody out there giving assistance of some kind if there's no war and they have someone to spare. I like to think Anakin could manage negotiating with the Tuskens himself, just for the poetry of it all and the fact that he DID have a certain amount of Jedi training already and basic negotiation should be relatively within his wheelhouse. But the Jedi could help in terms of investigation or infiltrating Jabba's court and things like that. And of course could ultimately help with bringing in Republic resources when that becomes something the abolitionists need/want and help in making sure the Tuskens get the representation they deserve if Tatooine enters into the Republic.
I think Anakin honestly would've been just fine with the Lars family. He might've struggled with the adjustment initially, might've taken some time to warm up to Cliegg and Owen and sharing his mother with them, but his actions in TPM while on Tatooine all point to the fact that Anakin was generally willing to trust people if he had good reason to do so. And he'd have Shmi there as a trusted authority to help him work through that. I think ultimately Anakin probably would've loved having a normal family and a regular home and working on a farm and having a brother to play with. He would've recognized how happy his mother was and done what he could to not ruin that for her. His flaws mostly start to come out when he meets the Jedi Council, that's where we see his mistrust of authority come in and his unwillingness to face his own fears and how that comes out as anger and defensiveness. But he's also on his own and has left behind the trusted figure of his mother that allows him to handle that kind of situation better. Otherwise, his flaws while on Tatooine seem to be fairly basic "9-year-old kid" flaws.
And yeah, both options I think would lead to Anakin being a perfectly good father if he chose to go that route. One of hte things I think that isn't done super well in the Prequels is emphasizing whether Anakin truly even WANTS kids or not. My personal interpretation tends to be that Anakin wants ONE PERSON to create a little family of two where that person's life sort-of revolves around him and him alone. Because that's the life he had with Shmi, that's what he associates with the concept of family and love. But adding kids into the mix sort-of ruins that by forcing his partner to share her attention away from him, something we can see in both the films and in TCW that Anakin doesn't tend to like at all. Anakin is a jealous lover who never wants Padme to love anybody more than him or focus her attention anywhere that isn't him. I don't see canon Anakin actually WANTING kids at all.
But part of the reason for that is because canon Anakin never deals with his own issues and so gets stuck on this really toxic attachment-filled version of love and family that presumably gets encouraged by Palpatine. A version of Anakin that has the opportunity to really work on himself and figure out healthier ways to love people and understand what it is he truly wants in life and what might genuinely make him happy could easily end up at a place where he realizes he DOES want kids. Perhaps not right away, he wants to do some work first, wants to let himself grow some more, but he DOES want kids. He wants to give Shmi grandchildren to dote on, he wants to give his children the same happy family experience he had, etc. And he'd be a perfectly wonderful father, specifically BECAUSE he either was allowed to grow up happily with the Larses or with the Jedi and passes on the lessons he learned from them to his own children.
They don't even have to be kids WITH PADME, necessarily (don't tell my friend that lol). He could adopt several orphans, take on some of the slave kids they free who don't have families to go back to. He could end up in a relationship with literally anybody else and have kids with them instead. The options are limitless! And that's the best part of both AUs is that you can really expand upon what a happier life for Anakin might look like without feeling limited to the things he thinks he wants in canon. He wants Padme because he clung to Padme as a replacement for Shmi and he idealized Padme into this unrealistic person that didn't truly reflect Padme at all. Would Anakin actually truly fall for Padme if he didn't have either of those things pulling him towards her? Would it be like Sabine and Ezra in Rebels where he has a crush on her at first but ultimately the two of them grow into a really strong friendship instead?
The sky is the limit!
Sorry if this isn't the kind of thing you want asked, you can ignore this if it isn't.
But in a no Palpatine AU, let's say Anakin matures just enough to realize that Jedi life isn't for him and leaves the Jedi Order. What do you think he'd do with his life after leaving? And do you think he'd stay friends with people like Obi-Wan?
This is totally the kind of thing I want asked!
Okay, so, the way I see it, there's two options for this AU.
Option 1: Everything stays the same up through TPM but Palpatine like slips on the stairs before Padme arrives on Coruscant or something, so he doesn't become Chancellor and never meets Anakin.
Option 2: Palpatine died before TPM or just never existed, and so the events of TPM go radically different or just don't happen at all, which has a lot of ripple effects on the entire storyline.
I think Option 1 is probably the scenario you were imagining with this ask, and it's the easier one to answer, so I'll do that one first.
I think Anakin could really mature a LOT via the Jedi lifestyle, actually. Anakin in TPM as a 9 year old is a genuinely kind, compassionate, sweet kid who seems to just want to help people and has a somewhat child-like naive idea of how that would actually work in reality. Living as a Jedi without the intervention of Palpatine telling him he can't trust the Jedi would allow him to really benefit from all of their lessons. He'd learn to be more than just mature, he could learn real mindfulness, he'd learn to let go, he'd learn to be at peace with the world around him and with who he is and what he was.
I think Anakin could leave at a few different points, but I usually assume that in this kind of situation, Anakin would leave probably shortly before he gets Knighted. Because I think Anakin would have benefited so much from the Jedi's teachings that it would feel wrong to him to take those oaths, knowing that he doesn't truly mean them and can't truly commit to them. But he stays as a Padawan as long as he can because he does LIKE a lot of things about being a Jedi and the longer he stays, the more he can learn. If Obi-Wan and the Council trust him to be a Knight, he can trust that he's probably gotten about all he can from the experience and it's time to move on. He might not even entirely consciously REALIZE that he's doing this until the moment comes and he has that particular epiphany that he's just been waiting for that validation to know that it's okay to leave.
And in this scenario, there's probably no Darth Tyrannus, either, and likely no Separatists, so there's nothing putting Padme's life in danger which means Anakin and Obi-Wan probably don't end up coming back into her orbit before Anakin leaves the Order. There's no secret relationship of any kind. But on Padme's end, this means there's no WAR and a lot fewer difficulties in the Senate probably which might mean she feels more comfortable stepping away from being a Senator than we know she does in canon.
As for what Anakin does after he leaves, there's SO MANY options. A lot of people assume he'd go into engineering, which is valid. It'd be a pretty easy job to pick up after leaving, maybe on a ship that needs a mechanic on the crew or something so he gets to travel around a bit. He could be a pilot, get a ship of his own and get some kind of piloting job. He could just go into racing I guess, although I feel like his time as a Jedi and his desire to help people would keep him from making that a whole career.
My favorite option though is that he goes back to Tatooine to try to do some abolition/grassroots work out there. It'd be really interesting as a parallel universe storyline if one of the things he actually ends up focusing on when he goes back to Tatooine is learning to understand the Tuskens better and trying to build a better relationship between the Tuskens and the settlers. I think he'd obviously focus a lot on the slavery issue, but it'd be interesting if the Tuskens got folded into that at some point, too. Maybe that work eventually leads him into politics and back to Coruscant and the Republic Senate at some point and that's how he gets back in contact with Padme. Or maybe Padme leaves the Senate and starts working with grassroots organizations herself afterwards and ends up remembering her time on Tatooine and deciding to go there to help and that's how they reconnect.
This also allows Anakin to reconnect with Shmi who, if we take into account the deleted dialogue that implies Palpatine and Dooku were behind the capture by the Tuskens that led to her death, is alive and well and doing just fine on the Lars homestead. So not only does Anakin get his mother back, he gains an entire step-family along with her. Anakin and Owen might butt heads occasionally, but they do love each other and consider each other family. Anakin and Beru get along SWIMMINGLY, much to Owen's irritation. Maybe the Tusken connection happens via his family and their struggles with the local tribes.
And in this AU, there's no reason he WOULDN'T remain friends with Obi-Wan. It might be a more "Jedi-like" friendship in the sense that they don't necessarily see or speak to each other super often, but they share an unbreakable bond from the years they spent together as Master/Padawan and do reach out when they have the time or are in the same area, etc. There's no attachment, no obligations or expectations that either of them has to live up to, just... compassion and friendship and respect.
And this brings us to Option 2 which runs into a lot more speculation and can go any number of ways.
If Palpatine dies prior to TPM or just plain doesn't exist at all, this likely means that the events of TPM don't even happen. So whether Anakin ever even becomes a Jedi is completely questionable and if he does, his route to becoming one could be radically different which would impact the kind of Jedi he becomes and his relationships to both Padme and Obi-Wan. It's entirely possible he'd never even MEET Padme until he was either fully a Jedi or had left the Jedi, so whether he'd end up in a relationship with her is completely up in the air. He might not even be into her depending on what kind of person you assume Anakin and Padme end up becoming in this particular AU. Maybe Obi-Wan doesn't become his Master. Maybe Qui-Gon DOES become his Master because he doesn't die on Naboo and survives to the end of Obi-Wan's apprenticeship. Maybe Anakin stays on Tatooine and when Cliegg comes along, he frees both of them and Anakin grows up a Lars for a while and meets Beru and joins her in abolition efforts. Maybe he becomes a celebrity via the podracing gig and this gets him enough money to leave Tatooine to pursue a career doing something else. Maybe Quinlan is involved in discovering Anakin since he's halfway canonically on Tatooine at the same time as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
Option 2 is kind-of a free for all, take your pick sort of option, so it's a little harder to definitively answer your questions about what he'd do and how his relationships would end up.

I luv your Ani-Vader au so much! Any spare thoughts or headcanons about it? I would be delighted to hear anything you got about this brilliant au.
If not that’s totally a-ok. Your art is wonderful!
Hello! Sorry for taking so long to answer this.
So in Ani-Vader au, the twins still happen :D
Tumblr media
Baby Leia wants to be just like her dad when she grows up. Yes this includes being seven feet tall, never-mind how short Padme is. She's going to be General Skywalker 2.0, and command her own 501st to help people across the galaxy. I mean, she already has all the clones wrapped around her tiny toddler fingers. Hardcase is just waiting for the day he can teach her to hold a blaster, Echo and Fives regularly compete for the title of 'Best Uncle', and Rex just can't say no to that face.
Luke is doing his best Auntie-Ahsoka cosplay. Coincidentally, she'll become his master later in life - perhaps not necessarily as a Jedi.
Things don't go down quite the same as in canon. Ahsoka still leaves the temple, and still goes after Maul. Anakin and Obi-Wan still go to rescue the Chancellor...and rather than execute Count Dooku, Anakin spares his life. Dooku may have cut off Anakin's arm, but then, he lost every other limb on his body to a random explosion. Anakin just isn't as far under Palpatine's control, isn't as in-tune withe Dark Side.
Dooku lives, and tells the Jedi what he knows about Sidious. They don't manage to kill him, but they can expose him, drive him out of the Senate.
(I haven't decided exactly what happens with Order 66 yet lol)
In the aftermath, the galaxy has a governing nightmare on its hands. The head of both the Republic and the CIS has been abruptly removed, not to mention the chunk of the galaxy that Maul had been influencing. There's also the matter of the clones, which Padme throws her whole nine-months-pregnant-with-twins self at with gusto. She's not alone of course, with Senators Organa, Chuchi and Mothma and the bulk of the Jedi providing enthusiastic support.
When Luke and Leia are born, Anakin steps away from his path as a Jedi, to instead walk the path of a father.
Tumblr media
Other Notes;
Bail becomes Chancellor after they usurp Palpatine.
He later takes Leia as a protege. Between her mother and Bail, not to mention her force sensitivity, she becomes a force to be reckoned with among the senate.
Anakin and Luke and Speeders are a match made in Heaven. Or Hell, if you're Obi-Wan.
Once the dust is settled, I think Anakin, Ahsoka, the kids and maybe Obi-Wan would create their own school for force-sensitives.
There are force-sensitive clones at this school.
Ani was doing a lot of thinking about how he was missed as a child because he was in the outer rim. Their school has a lot of focus on reaching out to children in areas with the Jedi can't go.
I'm not sure who Leia's master will be. Maybe Obi-Wan?
They do run into Han, years and years later.
Boy is he in for a surprise when Leia brings him in to meet mom n dad.
Mom is the second most well-known face in the republic.
And dad is the first. That helmet-face is distinct.
Dad is super into Han's piece-of-junk ship though, and they talk for three hours about all the work he's put into it. Then Luke shows up, and the talk for three more.
It's actually Luke and Leia's several thousand identical uncles that Han really has to worry about. Anakin trusts that his daughter can handle herself (he's seen her saber-skills after all.) The Clones trust that they will bury anything that messes with 'The Princess'.
Omega is prolly best-buds with the twins.
Ezra too for that matter.

I Gave You All - Anakin Skywalker x gn Reader (angst)

It came as a relief when you learned you were being sent to Naboo. The Council had listed it as a low-rank mission, one where you simply had to escort Padme back to her home planet so she could discuss potential habitation of war refugees in the unused marshlands.
Anakin and a few of his men had been sent first, to clear the way in case any unwelcome surprises were waiting on Naboo. Good thing, too-- a legion of droids had been waiting by the landing zone, ready to attack as soon as they touched down. Anakin spent days fighting them back, requesting backup multiple times and defending Theed from Dooku’s forces. In the end, he prevailed, but not without the inescapable, bitter results of war.
The first thing you noticed when you stepped off the transport ship was the smell. Smoke, black and thick and burning, stung your nose. The domes of great buildings sunk in on themselves, columns of charred wreckage dissipating into the oncoming dusk. It wreaked of dead bodies scattered across the city, hanging off window sills and lying crumpled beneath elegant marble staircases.
You pulled your shirt up over your face to block the overwhelming stench, and looked at your boots as you walked through the city. Your eyes followed the blood running through fissures in the cracked stone on the ground, splattered onto crumbling pillars which were once eggshell white. This was not enemy blood-- no, droids did not bleed. Every drop of red that stained the once lovely marble streets was the blood of innocent men, women, children, and soldiers. It was cruel, really, how the battle had ended in a victory, yet all that remained were the reminders of all that had been lost.
You pretended not to see the tears in Padme’s eyes as you escorted her to the palace. It must have been unimaginably painful, seeing her home in ruins, her people littering the streets.
Surprisingly, the Royal Palace had remained relatively unscathed, save for a few shattered windows and blaster holes. You knew this was because Anakin had set up a defensive base here-- he knew it was an important landmark, a beacon of hope for the people of Naboo, and if he saved anything, it had to be this. You met him in the throne room.
He was cold.
Normally when Anakin came out with a win, he was proud and boasting and confident. The adrenaline fueled him, and he yearned for more. But this time was different. This time, he had been hit in a place close to his heart, and people died because of it. Innocents were not spared this time around, and for each life he let slip through his fingers, he would never forgive himself.
You didn’t have to be a force user in order to feel the cold flames lick their way into his chest, squeeze his heart, and flicker in his eyes. You loved him too much to stay silent as he burned, but he pulled away when you tried reaching for him.
He needed time.
You watched his back stalk out of the throne room and out into the streets of the battleground-- the funeral ground. The double doors slammed closed behind him, but Padme was too busy embracing her family to notice. Everyone else-- important palace personnel, Rex and his men, bodyguards, handmaidens, and the Queen herself, were already walking around the polished halls, discussing plans of rehabilitation for the city. You wished they would be quiet for just a moment, to take a second and mourn the lives that had all too recently been swept up by the cruel winds of war.
But life in this city kept on moving, that was for sure. You excused yourself from the throne room, needing some room to breathe as well. After being dismissed, you took your time walking along the halls of the royal palace. The shine and glamour of the granite floors were scuffed with boot marks, the shattered stained windows bending orange and purple light across the empty expanse of the hallway. It was much too quiet for a city, much too barren for a bustling capital building.
The only reason it was still standing was because of Anakin. You wished he could see that, or at least see it in a way where it meant something other than complete and utter failure in his eyes. He saved the building, but not the people. Death was a sensitive topic for him, and you knew this was going to hit him hard.
Curse you, Dooku, you kicked at a broken chunk of granite with the toe of your boot, tiny petals engraved into the rock. It went skipping across the floor, falling into a charred pit dug from the ground by a blaster. All of this senseless violence… and for what?
It wasn’t fair how Anakin was always the one who got caught up in it. Yes, he was a Jedi Knight, a Republic General, a prophesied hero. But he was also just a boy, and he did not ask to hold  the weight of the entire world on his shoulders.
He came to you while you were on the balcony. His footsteps were quiet, yet heavy. So was the curve of his shoulders, hunched forward, head hanging low as if too burdensome to lift any longer. He leaned against the stone railing with his forearms, folding his hands over the edge as if in prayer.
It was softer up here, far away from the death and destruction that plagued the streets below. A gentle breeze smelling of warm earth and an impending sunset played with your baby hairs, tickling your cheek and ruffling Anakin’s curls. A cobweb stuck to your pinky finger, thin and pale and fragile, and you weren’t sure how it got there, but you let it cling to you in the wind.
He didn’t say anything for a long while, and you knew his silence meant deeper things were boiling underneath, so you looked at him. His face was still set--  harsh and cold. The golden orb of the setting sun illuminated his head like a halo, but he seemed to suck all warmth from the star. A new gash across his forehead stuck out against the pallor of his skin, red with dried blood, and his cheeks were streaked with ash.
And then he turned and met your gaze, and though he didn’t say a word, you saw everything you needed to know.
Your arms wound around him on their own accord, pushing his head into your neck and anchoring him to you with a hand around his waist. You clung to him hard, like maybe if you held him close enough you could fit all of his crumbling pieces back together. He, in turn, loosely circled your waist with his arms, applying the gentlest of pressures to the small of your back.
Shaky breaths washed over your shoulder, and you tightened your grip on him in response. He was falling apart, slowly and thoroughly beneath your palms, and it was all you could do but hold him as it happened.
“You gave them everything.”
He sunk to the ground at your words, and you fell to your knees with him. There were no tears, but he was trembling, and with the agony that claimed his voice, he may as well have been.
“It wasn’t enough. It’s never enough.”
“It’s all you have.”
It was moments like this that you wished he would just leave the Jedi Order altogether and never look back. This war was killing him-- no, more than that. It was killing his spirit. The unshakable, constant burning of the flame that was Anakin Skywalker flickered. He was losing oxygen, burning out. A young boy, whose youth was ripped from his grasp and then sent headfirst into a war there was little hope of winning-- broken, yet as you looked into his eyes, you saw strength.
Because no matter how bad things got, no matter how many lives were lost or how many times he felt like giving up, Anakin Skywalker was a fighter. And while this battle may have shaken him to his core and forced him to his knees, he would get back up. He would put one foot in front of the other, and he would wipe the ash from his cheeks and blink the blood from his eyes, and he would fight-- with the burning rage of the twin suns of Tatooine, for the people who needed protecting, and the people who needed freeing. That, in the end, was Anakin Skywalker’s mission.

More seriously.
Art is a product of its context and subject to the available technologies at the time of its creation. No piece of art is ever perfect (and lots star wars is far from it, lol) and wanting to go back to make as good as possible is an understandable urge, but on the other hand, we all have to learn to accept that we will never reach perfection and to deal with that frustration. Lucas' constant tampering of the effects with the newest technologies (that were not able to give a result that wouldn't age badly) and erasing the signs betraying that a lot star wars plot is improvised rather than very carefully planned (which doesn't even work because he very clearly only had the vague idea of leia and luke being siblings while writing esb at the earliest, thought he would let live their mother a few years after their birth so leia would have known her before changing his mind writing revenge of the sith for example, and it is my belief he hadn't originally intended to commit to Vader being Luke's father which is why obi wan does nothing but speak borderline lies in the ot and has to explain himself in rotj) shows his inability to accept his own limits and work with his past self’s decisions. I would understand adding scenes he had to cut for theater release or because of fox's executives, I cannot sympathize with him using movies he considered up to his standard to play with his new toys because cgi impresses him more
Besides, the ot and pt have quite a few racist tropes (ewoks treating c3po as a god, tuskens as mindless monsters and mishandling of metaphors for indigenous people in general, jar jar speaking in a caricature of a Caribbean accent, I could go on) and lots of cultural appropriation from leia and padme's hairstyles, clothing design that heavily copies Japanese culture, the whole orientalism of slave leia, to borrowing philosophical concepts off Islam, buddhism and the Sikh religion. And that's not mentionning the sexism of carrie having to forgo underwear for filming (btw did you know she was sent to a "fat farm" to lose 10 pounds or couldn't get the role ? I hate lucas), anyways I could go on about bigotry in star wars in canon and behind the scenes forever but that's not the point. And whenever these issues are brought up, some fans are quick to shut it down because "people didn't know better at the time". But if lucas can spare so much money and energy to go back and correct so many effects and actors that entire scenes look nothing like their original version (see sy snootle's show in Rotj), and new projects recreate constantly OT sets (diplomatic shuttle in rogue one, jabba’s palace for tbobf, etc) and use deepfakes to make characters whose actors cannot play them anymore appear and intervene, it's sending the message that all the rest is his choice to keep intact, that he has no desire to make these parts less awful and he was still proud of it as of 2011
Also pet peeve of mine but if I have to have my star wars movies heavily edited, why isn't the soundtrack modified too to include relevant themes that were not composed yet like the imperial march in a new hope or battle of the heroes on the last Vader-obi wan duel (btw im still mad the kenobi series didn't use it or leia's theme it's such a waste)? Why isn't the awful cgi of AOTC and rots getting fixed too? it sure hurts my eyes more than the few vfx of the ot that didn't age very well
The worst part is definitely that once these edited versions were made that's all Lucasfilm commercialized from that point forward, making the original versions hard to find. My villain origin story.
Only alteration I'm not mad at is tem redubbing the OT boba scenes but that's just me wanting more tem in star wars lol
I hate all of george Lucas' alterations of the original trilogy so much. The cgi and actors. This idea of "updating" the effects (looks weightless and barely like a modern video game, no shade to the vfx artists) and retroactively correcting casting that worked fine, and making these versions the mainly sold ones and easiest to access ? Kill him with fire and give me back my old vfx, commit to the casting, I should be able to easily buy a DVD of what the movie looked like when it came out in theaters actually

4, 6, and 9 for the writing questions.
4: what time of the day/night do you like to write?
I’m admittedly a bit all over the place for this one, lol. Uh, I’m not good at mornings just in general, so I basically never write then. I work in an office job, so I sometimes write stuff at spare moments/downtime during the day, if I have any. I used to do even more of that, back when I worked an 11-8 shift in a call center where we got much less call traffic during the last two hours of the day. Most of The Promises of Angels was written on notepads during those shifts, and typed up later.
Other than that, I write a fair amount in the evenings. Sometimes I’ll go to a coffee shop and try to just write for a couple hours, but I also do a lot when I’m technically supposed to have gone to bed. Which is why you’ll see me post stuff stupid late a lot/after midnight my time.
6: hardest/easiest character to write for?
It actually depends? And it’s changed over the years–back when I first started writing SW fic, Obi-Wan’s head was hard for me to get into, but now he flows pretty well. …in fact, I think at this point I actually write from Obi-Wan’s POV more often than anyone else’s??? Also, for Precipice, it’s sometimes hard to write Padme chapters. Not because her head/voice is hard for me to get into, but because figuring out what her plot threads should be tends to be harder than any of the others. But that’s also a pretty Precipice-specific issue, since I haven’t had that problem in other fics that feature her (i.e., Distaff, These Three Remain, The Devoted, Deja Vu, miscellaneous one-shots; etc.)
In terms of non-POV (Precipice) characters, Saw was a pain in the ass to write, which is probably part of why Arc Six took so long. I’m also anticipating Han and Lando will be difficult when I get to the point where they’re involved. Uh. Leia tends to be easier for me to write than Luke, but that might be because she’s a little more active in terms of Plot at this point in the story. Luke will have more to do in future arcs, and it’ll probably balance out a little better then. Though I’ll admit that he took longer than Vader when I was writing The Phoenix, so who knows. (Incidentally, writing Vader before he has Luke’s existence as a primary motivator has been hard for me in the past. Which is the main reason why Masks stalled, I think…)
In terms of easiest characters to write, Anakin’s always been pretty smooth going. Rex and Ahsoka, too (apart from, again, the last Precipice arc where they were mostly dealing with Saw who is a Problem for me). Oh, and Hondo. I haven’t done a whole lot with him (yet), and I don’t think I could do his POV very easily, but he is a delight and fairly easy for me to write as a secondary/non-POV character in a scene.
9: what tv shows, books, or movies inspire for this verse, if any?
…you know, leaving aside the obvious (Valdemar AU), I’m not sure that any of my SW fanfic is really inspired by any other media? At least not directly. Well, apart from Dr. Naar being loosely based on Doc Cottle from BSG, and probably some other expy characters like that. Oh, there’s that one bit in The Devoted which was basically ‘today, Ahsoka will be playing the role of Parker from Leverage’ in my head. But in terms of overall plots/concept/etc., I’m not sure that I can pinpoint to any specific inspirations for the bulk of my SW fic/AUs. Which is not to say that they’re not there, it’s just that they weren’t deliberate/I can’t specifically say ‘yeah, this was inspired by that other thing’ if that makes sense?
A lot of my original fiction started out that way, though (meaning, fanfic concepts that I then filed the serial numbers off of, so to speak). The Farglass Cycle is loosely rooted in Avatar: the Last Airbender; Lux, while not so much directly inspired by anything, draws on some concepts from Native Tongue, and given that it’s the Apocalypse in SPACE, there’s some influences there from SPN/JCS/etc.; Untitled Intrigues Story started life as basically a Supernatural/Borgias fusion/AU; and my untitled First Contact novel technically has some BSG roots (in that it started out as “hey something like 2000 people are unaccounted for and potentially got left behind on New Caprica, what happens if they managed to survive and contact was re-established with them millennia later when interstellar travel is rediscovered”), and also probably has a lot of CJ Cherryh influence (because she’s…like…first-contact and what follows is her Thing and I read a lot of her stuff).
I’ll also say that I read a fair amount of history, so there are certain characters/situations/etc. that are heavily inspired by that. In my SW fic, in other fanfic, in my original fiction…all over the place.
(Also, this is really only tangentially related, but when I was writing The Devoted, one of the things I was thinking about was how to–like, given the setup, it’s basically inevitable that there’s gonna be some parallels to and influences from Rebels, so I was kind of actively trying to make it not just ‘let’s do Rebels BUT with PT characters instead,’ and I think I did pretty well? Eh, not necessarily for me to judge XD. But, yeah, that was in my mind as I was working on it.)

Anakin with a word of warning from obiwan the two seperate and jump to the lab w clones after ahsoka, everyone engaging in fights. While Anakin finds padme held by the dr, Obiwan joins Ahsoka before splitting off to the bomb room and calling anakin to check in. The tiny nudge that ObiWan gives Anakin when he’s a bit harsh towards the kid . ObiWan and Anakin climb down a cliff with the suprising aid of a flying creature to find the root at the bottom. They are warned they can’t leave, on trying they trigger lasers and have to turn back. They get a call from sick Padme and Ahsoka, leaving Anakin angry to get out while ObiWan tries to calm him down and offer a plan “Slow down, Anakin.” “Slow down? Slow down?! You saw them, Master, they’re dying!” “A great leap forwrad often requires first taking two steps back.” “And sometimes all it requires in the will to jump.” “At least hear me out on this.” and he does, because obiwan asked. . a new plan with the kid’s help, they head out again and make it, immediately heading back to Naboo. Anakin checks on Padme and Ahsoka, praising his padawan before he and obiwan wave the medical ship off “You did a fantastic job today, Snips.” “All thanks to your training, Master.” “Yeah, you’re right. I probably do deserve most of the credit. But not all of it.” “Good thing... I know you don’t mean... everything you say.” bless them
s1ep19 Storm Over Ryloth . Ahsoka is given her first command to take clones on a starfight, with a prep talk from her master. Anakin watches over their attack from the ship, orders her retreat as their main ship is blasted. Having lost most of her ships, Ahsoka sits dejectedly and Anakin reprimands her but also reassures because he knows. “I know you meant well, Snips” [...] “All that means is that I understand what you’re going through.” “But I failed.” “It was a trap, Snips. It wasn’t your fault.” [...] “Take heart little one. That’s the reality of command.” . Anakin update calls Windu and ObiWan and has Rex find Ahsoka who is upset. She joins Anakin who is fixing (her?) fighter and they talk, ahsoka wound so anakin sends her away. After a moment, she rejoins Anakin in the hangar where he is commanding an evacation, having Rex take over he explains to Ahsoka the plan - he splits off alone to crash the ship into the enemy with ahsoka to defend him when he escapes it. Unsure,Ahsoka takes command and brief captains. Anakin sets his ship to crash and escapes in a pod waiting for team to pick him up. “Skyguy we’re approaching your position, stand by for retrieval.” . She commands another fleet out to attack and break the barrier, suceeding just as obiwan and windu’s ship appears reay to land as planned. “I won’t even ask where the rest of Anakin’s fleet is. Or why he’s in an escape pod.” he is so tired of these children but as long as theyre okay its fine “That’s... probably for the best.” like master like padawan, ahsoka
s1ep20 Innocents Of Ryloth . ObiWan and MaceWindu on planet, Obiwan with Cody and clones head to the surface to fight. They are attacked by creatures that Obiwan tames using force into a deadend and jumps out, Cody hands him his lightsaber. s1ep21 - ‘Anakin Sywalker battles the enemies in the skies while Obi-Wan kenobi frees villages’ working together even when apart, i love that intro. In this episode it’s Mace Windu’s adventure time w his clone gang to fight.
s1ep22 Hostage Crisis . Anakin, supposed to be a on a medatitive retreat, is hanging out at Padme’s. He gives her his lightsaber to prove a point and hides when they are interrupted and padme leaves. Meanwhile, CadBane and co are infiltrating and rounds the senators up in the main hall. Realising something is wrong, Anakin finds and spies on the hall before having to run and defend himself while sneaking around without his lightsaber. He manages to avoid them for a bit and gets through to Palpatine to report (ofc) before taking out one persuer then being cornered and electrocuted to unconsciousness. Dragged to the hall and thrown with the other captors, the enemies set lasers to keep them in and leave. Anakin wakes, Padme gives him back his lightsaber, and he goes through the floor to get them out. “When I finished constructing my lightsaber, ObiWan said to me, ‘Anakin, this weapon is your life.’ This weapon IS my life.” yes he has said thta several times bc you keep losing it, like NOW Also,, “Please, Ani. Wake up.” He does NOT get that gentleness on the battlefield heh

#padme: wait sorry are you saying that you cant understand how anyone could find the guy who murdered 20 people in 2 days offputting#obi-wan: that wasn't his choice :( i asked him to#padme: im gonna stop you right there because this revolution isgoing to be really hard to carry out#if i don't feel comfortable in a room with you too#also just spare padme from that in general lol#i also thought about having ahsoka be the other tribute#but i didnt think people were ready for that#like there wouldnt be a happy ending where anakin grows to care for her and then they both get out of the arena (via @tennessoui)
the hunger games au! anakins confidence! obi-wan being the mentor! the fact that they’re together BEFORE anakin even gets picked!
poor robin tho lol :( but you know the games go on for like 12 hours longer while Anakin waits for someone else to kill her.
