What are your top five dragons?

I've thought long and hard about this, and I've come up with a list that I think is pretty good.

Spoilers for, honestly, like, a couple things below the cut. I've tagged the post accordingly.

5. Raijin, my Dragonite from Pokemon Violet

(Obviously this isn't specifically a picture of Raijin, my Switch is sadly batterydead at the moment, but this is about what she looks like in my head. Anyway!)

Somehow or another, Dragonite ended up being the very last Gen I Pokemon I'd never caught or trained in any way. I'd caught all of the others in SOME playthrough of SOME pokemon game over the years, even the ones people generally don't love or tend to forget about. (I will be a Lickitung apologist until the day I die.) I'm not sure why I avoided the Dratini line for so long. Some general subconscious backlash? I can't really say for sure. Anyway, I caught Raijin off the coast of Paldea in Violet and she quickly became essentially the ace of my team. As it turns out, Rain Dance + Thunder with an Electric terra type is a pretty good combination.

4. Black Hole Dragons, from a Dungeons & Dragons homebrew sourcebook

I looked and looked and to my IMMENSE frustration, could not find a copy of the old-school D&D homebrew sourcebook that these things are from, but please trust me and hear me out here.

Black hole dragons as depicted in this book, a truly ridiculous bestiary of appropriate foes for Epic-level adventurers, were bizarre snaking collages of geometry that could grow to be larger than the size of the visible universe and erase people from existence by breathing on them. After encountering these when reading these sourcebooks at the impressionable age of uh....like, 23, vanilla D&D's usual array of chromatics and metallics don't do a ton for me anymore.

3. Nicol Bolas, from Magic: The Gathering

This guy.

This fucking guy. This is how you do an impossibly powerful doomsday villain right.

Nicol Bolas is a dragon who's also a dimension-hopping wizard. As part of what is by my estimation one of Magic's last good sets, he also kills a bunch of faux-Egyptian deities and takes their place as the divine ruler of an entire dimension. This guy fucking rules and every single card that's ever had his name on it is awesome and if you disagree, well, that's good for you, because WoTC killed him right around the time they decided to make Magic boring forever.

2. Falin Touden, from Dungeon Meshi

No, she counts. Get back here.

If I stopped to count all of the ways I thought Falin was an amazing character we'd be here all day, but very briefly I find her arc and her interesting liminal role in Dungeon Meshi's narrative super compelling, and I find her characterization very, very relatable, and not entirely in a way that reflects well on me.

As a DRAGON

Falin is still one of the best to ever do it. The original Red Dragon is a very cool and pivotal part of Dungeon Meshi, and I love that too, but when Falin is fused with it by Thistle we get what is just honestly one of the most memorably bitchin character designs of all time, a ludicrously hot capital MG Monster Girl, and a huge driving force for the rest of the story. Not to mention Ryoko Kui clearly put a ton of thought into how she would work, since a key flaw in her design (so to speak) is what eventually leads to her being saved. I love her to pieces, and the form Falin finally gets at the very end of the story is honestly super cool-looking too! Although it's less dragonny than this one.

headspace-hotel's "Dragon" is one of my favorite poems of all time. It's easily the best tumblr post, and while I don't read a ton anymore, it's definitely one of my favorite overall pieces of literature.

I realize that being so brief in the top entry makes this a little anticlimactic, but I can't bring myself to rob the poem of its impact. I linked it there, so please go read it. More than anything else on this list, it's made me think. Beyond simply thinking it's an absolutely great piece of work (which it is), it's very meaningful to me. A reminder that the danger is still present in our time.

Some honorable mentions: the rest of the Dungeon Meshi dragons, every dragon from the Souls series and from Elden Ring, Paarthurnax from Skyrim, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Godzilla, Beast Machines Megatron, and Odious, the Green Dragon who turns into a giant d20 that I bought from Hasbro Pulse a year or so ago.

was on a bit of a bender, sent a bonkers ask to a another poor blog and forgot about it, but now I think about it, it mightn’t have been as bunk as I thought? I think it went like this

“The clowns are playing their part to perfection” -> thinking about clowns with set parts/roles, Pierrot’s sad relationship/love triangle with Columbine and Harlequin -> pierrot’s character over time has had a lot of range (mostly a sad underdog jokester) -> a 20th century/modernist interpretation of Pierrot as part of ts elliot’s inspiration for the Lovesong of J Alfred Prufrock -> (loki reading other Elliot texts) -> “prufrock” poem pretty lokius-flavoured ? -> is mobius or loki in the sad pierrot role ? Maybe both? Sad little clowns, playing their parts to a fault :(

Anon if this is you on a bit of a lark I can't even begin to imagine your full power, lol! What an fascinating take that tbh I wish I had even an ounce of the literary awareness necessary to process as thoroughly as deserved but will happily give it a go anyway 😅

I've always found that "clowns are playing their part to perfection" line of Loki's especially striking because while I'm sure it was meant to imply a dismissal of the situation and nonchalance over loss of control, there's no reason it would have the intended impact when nothing about the TVA had come across as less than hypercompetent?? From B-15's seamless takedown of Loki in the first place to the efficient process of variants, swift guilty ruling as his lack of access to magic is scoffed at, and Mobius having the upper hand as a Loki expert there's not really anything for that line to do except hang there as much higher symbolism so I think you're right to look at it in perspective to both Loki and Mobius considering how much they ended up mirroring each other right down to the temporarily (forever an optimist 😂) tragic romance of their ending.

On that note it's very interesting there are such clear comparisons between Loki and Pierrot since as you mentioned Pierrot's known for being an underdog and prankster to hide his unhappiness, flawed and in search of love, not to mention having a near "obsession" with Columbine only to often end up pining for his best and only friend the Moon 👀

While I'm biased and usually think of everything in terms of Mobius so I see both Pierrot (with his sense of endearing, eternally youthful energy) and Harlequin in him, in this case it makes sense to look at him in terms of Harlequin and how he's usually in high spirits, uses his clever nature to solve and escape problems easily, and unlike those around him doesn't hold onto grudges against those who have wronged him. There's also his TVA service that later turns into full devotion to Loki similar to how Harlequin is later considered a witty, faithful valet (""Why aren't the two of you in cahoots with him and his butler?") and it's notable how Loki is described by Mobius as a man of action when in pantomime Pierrot eventually takes on many of the characteristics of Harlequin, ending up representing the symbol of the artist just like Loki created a new story in the end.

Apologies that Prufrock I'm not quite as familiar with outside of a general awareness, but if I remember correctly it ultimately conveys an isolation or distance from the world after being too afraid to confront the surface level emptiness of life?? Which if so talk about Lokius being doomed to the narrative after failing to escape their past circumstances and getting (temporarily!!) confined in the very places they feared 😬

nope! although my dad used to claim that i was named after some slavic actress/model/wife-of-Some-Guy whose name i always forget

the weekend before the last, just your average sunday afternoon mental breakdown

sort of, but also not really? i do believe that there are certain people who are supposed to be in your life at certain times but that doesnt necessarily mean "forever"

4. Do you drink liquor? 

rarely - im not opposed to it, i just dont often do things where there's alcohol involved

5. What do you usually daydream about?

listen. i have a very specific daydream universe that i always come back to but. you know how you sometimes read a story and can pretty much guess what's wrong with the author? describing my daydreams would be like that except you wouldnt have to guess at all, it'd be the most on-the-nose thing you've ever seen. might as well just post a list of everything that ever went wrong in my life and it'd be less embarrassing

6. First thing you notice about other people?

their voice!! (i mean obviously lots of times you see people before you hear them, but i dont really notice anything more specific than a general impression about appearances at first glance, yk?)

7. What's your favorite quote from a TV show/movie/book?

does a poem count? cause the only thing i can think of is "Es gibt keine Schuld. Es gibt nur den Ablauf der Zeit." from tucholsky's poem aus, which i havent stopped thinking about since i read it nine years ago (and for which i still havent found an english translation, sorry!)

absolutely hate when people overexplain stuff to me that i know, that you could reasonably assume i know, and that i've told you i know. i know a lot of times people mean well (which is why i wont get actively mad at anyone), but if i already told you i know about something, you really dont have to explain it to me like it's brand new information. (looking at all the guys who heard about my field of study and then went on to describe the most basic sociological concepts to me)

9. Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?

ireland!! i have no specific plans but i've wanted to go to ireland ever since i was a kid and saw the photos my parents took on their trip to ireland in the 90s

in a small town in northern germany :)

nothing exciting tbh - video games, talking to friends, going for walks, and writing (<- i say, barely having written anything in months)

Some more SVSSS thoughts

Yes, I never shut up, sorry not sorry.

One of the things that really struck me on reread is how MXTX gets something crucial that so many fandoms (and generally people outside of fandom discourse) do not get:

That someone can be a complex person - because most real people are complex and not cardboard cut-outs, that they could be someone that under other circumstances they could have been good or even heroic, that someone might have a tragic past, be a victim and have logical reasons how step by step they ended up where they ended up and still be a bad person, a monster, an abuser or whatever else.

Explanation is not the same as justification. One can be both pitiable and repulsive, a victim and a perpetrator. Hell, one can be one to some and the other to others. One does not negate or excuse the other.

Take the original SQQ. SQQ was horrifically abused as a child, SQQ trusted his one friend and then that hope turned to ashes, SQQ was not a lustful bastard seeking women for sex but someone who sought their company because he felt safe with them due to his past trauma, SQQ murdering those people was his snapping from abuse (in some ways equivalent to Mo Ran in the brothel in 2ha and nobody finds Mo Ran irredeemable because of that action), SQQ really tried to protect the sect leader and he didn’t mean to kill LQQ (he actually tried to help with the qi deviation, he just accidentally screwed it up.) And yet. And yet. He abused Liu Binghe, a helpless child, horrifically for years, and did his best to murder him. The original SQQ created his own monster and his own murderer. The backstory, the details make SQQ a tragedy but they do not make him any less of a monster. None of that stuff makes his abuse of Binghe OK. That is why it’s a tragedy - not because he innocently got it in the neck but because he was a person that could have been better but wasn’t, a person who under different circumstances may have had a different life. (Hell, OG Binghe himself is in the same mold - someone who’s had a horrific background that turned him into a monster, but he’s a monster at the end, no ifs or buts.)

And I love how this plays into the general sense of unsettledness in the novel. Both in terms of character fluidity (take Zhuzhi-lang. He is sweet, he is loyal, he’s tragic. He also murdered Gongxi Xiao, a truly good guy, for no good reason at all even if it made sense in his internal logic) but also in terms of outcomes. The OG Binghe exists and he’s left to monstrously rule but be left emotionally unsatisfied and lonely forever, there is no “look at happy triumph” for him. The fact that OG SQQ was not a flat caricature also leaves a bitter trace about his ending (especially the fact that he will never know his brother did not abandon him, and that sect leader will never be able to tell him, in this or any other reality; OG SQQ’s long gone by the time sect leader explains to “our” SQQ and in the OG reality even their blood is not allowed to mingle.) Or take the case of Binghe’s father - there is no teary reunion and there never will be but also he’s been wronged by the world and it’s never going to be truly fixed; how can it be? (Side note - the description of him being chained, body slowly rotting away as he’s conscious, and his reciting poems/arias he used to listen to in the human world, sometimes pausing because those were the ones he listened with Binghe’s mother - it’s a throwaway moment but it really echoes MXTX’s ability to really go dark into suffering with so few words, as she did in TCGF actually.)

I love how everything is untidy, not truly fixed but patched up, never perfect just the best you can have under the circumstances. Everyone ends up being walking wounded of a sort, but at least they are standing.

(I actually love that sense of unsettledness in MXTX works in general, the fact that things aren’t tied in a bow, that she deliberately denies a certain catharsis to her readers  - think of Blackwater or ghost baby stories in TCGF, think of the fact that WWX never knows how JC lost his core in the first place or that we never truly learn what happened to WWX’s parents, or the whole not-truly-resolution of the Yi City arc in MDZS. So many other authors would be tempted to resolve these, to take them to their narrative logical conclusion, whatever it may be, but I love that MXTX leaves them hanging. She is a tight enough plotter when she wants to be that I think it’s a deliberate choice and people either love or hate it but I love it.)

Final and semi-related side note. I just reread the extra where Airplane interviews Binghe and SQQ and one thing struck me:

“Shang Qinghua: “When the two of you are together what is the thing that makes your pulse race the most?”

“Luo Binghe earnestly said: “The times when I get patted on my head and instructed.”

Shen Qingqiu said: “Uh, when his face is streaming with tears while he’s begging me for something, I guess.”

I love this because a lot of their sex (or otherwise) scenes involve Binghe bawling and SQQ going “ugh I guess fine!” and it can totally read as SQQ not being into it but putting up with it because he’s soft-hearted for his disciple but this little exchange makes clear that no, it’s not that, SQQ actually gets off on it, he’s not putting up with it in the least, he’s way way into it. Those two freaks found each other and they are actually compatible and I love it. (I also find it interesting that Binghe is interested both in the B, the M, and the S of BDSM - I wonder if it’s because this is something where he knows he can be safe - any “reproof” he gets is with love and being allowed to boss/tie up his own shizun is a sign of how much the latter cares for him. Hmmm.)

my own fic about this will be going up on ao3 tomorrow, it’s planned to eventually span all of jaskier’s childhood + staying at kaer morhen though so buckle up kids we’re in for the long haul until then, here are some fun facts about this au:

Vesemir follows after Alfred into Kaer Morhen and offers to treat his injured hand, Alfred is charmed by how gently Vesemir handles him despite his gruff demeanour and the fact that he just punched one of his sons

Vesemir knows Geralt won't even bruise from that hit and the idiot confessed himself that he drove away his bard but he's still impressed that Alfred had the guts to do it

He compliments Alfred's bravery and the professor loses all of his cool immediately 

Vesemir…likes that more than he thinks he should, plus Alfred's got really soft curls and lovely warm brown eyes…

Tender homoerotic wrapping of a bandage around a hand ensues

After that it's gay panic 2: electric boogaloo because both of them thought they would be single dads forever? And haven't dated anyone in decades?? or just haven’t dated full stop???

They get drunk with each other and bond over the struggles of parenting and huh, they actually have a lot of things in common...

Vesemir enjoys flirting with Alfred to watch that unflappable veneer break and because he gets a lot of reactions from people, fear, hatred, respect but adorably flustered has never been one of them, it’s...nice

Alfred is delighted to learn that he can fluster Vesemir back by writing poetry about him and then reading it aloud for 'feedback'

It cumulates to Alfred leaning on his shoulder while reciting a piece about the witcher’s strong arms, tilting his head up at Vesemir once he’s finished with that soft grin that doesn’t belong anywhere near the harshness of an old witcher 

Vesemir snaps, closing the distance between their lips and yeah, he’s still got it 

So does Alfred, despite the fact that he’s fourty

“My dear, as flattering as that assumption is, I’m 61.” “Wait, what? you’re barely even greying???”

Because Alfred has the dubious honour of being the first human to be a member of the fae court and their magic just kind of rubbed off on him

The court turned up to recruit Jaskier due to spike of distinctly fae magic surrounding Oxenfurt but Alfred was like my kid is 11 he's not doing anything other than colouring in and chasing frogs

So he became Jaskier's legal representative

This event marks the point in Alfred's life when he just gave up and was like fine fuck it, my life's already weird enough, let's just do this

(fun oxenfurt academy fact: if you hear faint yelling from the forest, that’s just professor pankratz doing some stress relief, you can even differentiate what he’s stressed about, there’s the general stress scream, the Jaskier stress scream and the ‘my students are idiots’ stress scream)

It becomes much more amusing when he realises that he's the only one who can lie in court

He gets away with talking shit because he passes it off as oh, just his oblivious child’s words and even if they ask, he knows Jaskier will automatically back him up cause his son loves drama

This is also when he learns that he's accidently trained Jaskier to be a terrifying powerhouse because Alfred had no preconceived notions of what should be impossible with magic so Jaskier regularly breaks fae magic rules without batting an eye while his newly assigned tutors scream in frustration

The court is less mean than they could be though because usually fae have to trick humans into adopting changelings but then Alfred just did it. it wasn’t even disguised as his kid??? Just a random child??? And he just adopted him with no prompting???

Alfred’s like yeah? what else was I supposed to do???

Also the reason Jaskier doesn't use his last name is because Pankratz is recognizable as the name of the bestselling author who wrote all those beautiful poems about the joys of having a son and how precious his child is to him

Medieval equivalent of your parents showing off your baby pictures to your friends except instead of friends it's the entire continent, dad! no one is going to take me seriously when they know me as your ‘baby buttercup’!

Three people running, three people trying to change their sealed fates.

Ami to outrun the nightmares that haunted her.

Jahani to save her love.

Reya to heal the rift between her and her daughter.

They were all sinners and lowly peasants in the eyes of society.

But these lowly sinners jumped through hoops to keep each other safe.

These dirty savages had more courage and love and hope and passion than any person who had been born into power and wealth.

They all knew what they had to do to keep each other safe, they all knew that it was time for an uprising. 

Now staging a coup is not something easy, it never is. Unfortunately, there is no ‘how to’ guidebook on overthrowing a government. But a grief-stricken mother bent on revenge, a genius girl seen as the perfect role model, and a stubborn, hard-working farm girl seemed like the perfect fit for the job.

When Reya found Jahani’s shredded book she went straight to her daughter’s room and pounded on the door. “What is this?” Reya had questioned carefully, she wasn’t angry. Reya just wanted to understand.

Jahani found the situation almost comical, she had always been so careful and it was her who was found out first, not Ami. “It’s um- well it’s my journal,”

“I know that” Reya stated dryly, her eyes flicking up to Jahani “But, these are love notes, and poems and plans and- and..” Reya trailed off, but the words hung in the air, slicing truth into the silence.

These are blasphemous.

Jahani knew, which is why she was so shocked that her mom hadn’t run all the way to the Capital with this beat-up notebook, and she was wary because she knew the deeply private information that the journal housed.

So Jahani sighed, looked at her mother, saw the deep-set wrinkles etched on her face, and spilled everything. Everything she had ever hidden from her mother. And she talked and talked, and talked, and she didn’t stop.

Ami awoke suddenly, but for the first time in forever, it wasn’t night terrors that ended her slumber but tapping on her window.

A tapping? 

No, it was the sound of tiny pebbles striking against her window. This got Ami to bolt upright, who in the world would be outside of her home breaking curfew?

In her entire life, there was the only person that she had ever met that would dare to break that rule. 

Jahani.

Ami slipped on a sweater over her nightdress and peered down into the pitch blackness that was the front garden, sure enough, she make out from the faint glow of the moonlight a face that Ami would recognize anywhere. 

At first Ami, almost didn’t want to go down there, show Jahani it was going to take a lot more apologizing and groveling to get Ami back. But before she knew it, her feet carried her towards the invisible that she loved so much.

Ami crept out of the house and down into the depths of the garden.

Jahani kept a close eye on her and whispered “I’m sorry, I know you need more than that to forgive me, but we don’t have much time”

Ami almost snorted, no shit they didn’t have much time, the clock had already struck midnight. Curfew was always from midnight to six a.m.

“Meet me at the apple orchard tomorrow, my mom’ll be there too, bring a pen, and a ton of paper, be discreet, okay?”

“Fine, but-” Ami started

“I’ll tell you why tomorrow, get back to bed, meet us at 12:30” Jahani breathed, “Just tell your mom you're going out to lunch or something”

Ami nodded, she didn’t need to be told twice, something inside her told her that this was the beginning of something new.

It was bright and clear when Ami made her way to the apple orchard, she took an old wicker basket with her to make sure that she made good on her promise to her mother that she would come back with plenty of ripe, delicious apples. 

Reya and Jahani were already seated in a clearing a little ways off, they looked up as Ami approached and quickly beckoned her to join them. The exchange of greetings was rather rushed, and Ami wasn’t fond of Reya inhibiting the precious time that she and Jahni had together.

Jahani rolled out a map, then looked at Ami and said, “We are going to bring down the capital, you, me, and my mom,”

So that’s why Reya was there.

Ami nodded, she was sick and tired of their unfair and horrific regime. She was ready for war.

Both Reya and Jahni had a game plan, and this time there was no backing down.

They carefully and quietly explained the plan, how they were going to get the Capital’s attention first, and then the world’s.

There were others in on the plan, Nakoa, Jahani’s confidante was among them.

This plan was intricate and beyond dangerous.

Reya was going to go right behind enemy lines claiming to have found her daughter’s ripped-up notebook, Ami was going to fake an illness, and Jahani was going to, well, do her thing.

Wishlist For Someone Special

Ok, so I'm feeling really sappy and just a little lonely. All my friends are boring and my family members are too young for me to take to do some stuff.

This is kind of a wishlist of things I wish I had someone to do with or look forward to doing eventually...not necessarily romantic, but I wouldn't mind if it was. (broskis, I ain't never been on a date, not even, like, a platonic one, so bear with me if it seems ridiculous)

Stargazing- lying on a blanket in an open field or in the bed of a truck, just watching the stars, pointing out constellations, and making up stories

Watching the Northern Lights- bundling up in our warmest winter clothing, grabbing a couple campchairs and hot chocolate as we watch them dance and flicker.

Laser Tag- sneaking around, just trying to one up each other, or being on the same team and still- try to one up each other😂

Paintball- a little more painful than laser tag, but still fun. Checking up on each other afterwards to make sure there aren't any really bad bruises

Graffiti- I've always liked the way it looks. I would love for someone to teach me, or for us to learn together in one of those public graffiti houses

A Willow Tree- I would love to find a weeping willow tree and climb it's branches, only to sit and read there with my loved one enjoying their company.

Just Drive- just take a roadtrip with someone I love, blasting music, laughing, singing, and snacking as we blaze down the roads. It doesn't have to be long.

Visit an Animal Sanctuary/Reserve- I find animals fascinating, but also find that sanctuaries and reserves are more educational and often more humane than zoos.

Volunteer at the Food Bank or SPCA- just general acts of service. They make me happy.

Pillow Fortress- I didn't really get to make blanket forts when I was younger, so I want to try doing something even bigger! I want to convert the couch into a cuddle palace.

Spontaneous Dancing- idk man, it just makes me really happy. My dad used to twirl and dip me when I was little, so that's probably where it started.

Cooking/Baking Together- so what if we make a bit of a mess? So what if we screw up the recipe? It doesn't matter, it was time well spent.

Cleaning Together- Growing up as an only child for ten years and then becoming the oldest means I've done chores alone for a long time. I want someone's company, maybe we'll talk, maybe we'll work in comfortable silence, or maybe we'll blast music. I don't care. I would be happy just to know I wasn't alone.

Learning One of Their Hobbies- I want to learn something they know!! Please, let me understand a little better, I just need them to be patient with me.

Forest Walks- especially in Fall. I want to walk down an old trail, listen to leaves crunch under our feet as more fall from above I want the blustery weather to give us rosy cheeks and noses by the time our walk is over.

Horseback Riding- I've done it before, but I would love to bring someone with me. You have more experience? Great! I love to see that confidence in you. You've done it a couple times? Yay, we're in the same boat! Never done it at all? That's ok! I'll do what I can to help you!

Outdoor Movie Night- we don't have drive- in theaters anywhere nearby, but give me a sheet, campchairs, and a projector? I've got us.

Indoor Movie Night- let's bundle up and cuddle together while we watch a new movie. Or maybe it's a classic. Idc.

Try New Food- let's go somewhere for lunch and pick something completely foreign...(I am not eating guinea pig again though, thanks.)

The Wharf- if one of us happens to live by the ocean, we'll be frequent visitors. Not necessarily the beach, bit on wooden planks where the salty sea air still reaches you. We can watch the boats come and go. (Fisherman's Wharf in B.C Canada is fun. There's a really good Mexican food place😂 There's a blind seal named Sammy that lives there, and you can buy a bucket of fish to feed him. Be careful though, seagulls are vicious, being pecked by one sucks...yes, I needed a bandaid and my finger was sore for a long time. Idk if it's still like that, it's been a while. Sorry, just reminiscing a bit.)

Painting- let's buy a couple canvases and paint and see what we can do! It doesn't have to resemble anything, just do what feels like you.

Splatter Painting- dear god I've wanted to try this for so long. Just full on globs of paint and flicking it towards the canvas. (I was never allowed to do it because it was seen as a waste of paint. I couldn't even do it with an old toothbrush on a small canvas😑)

Video Games!- Please teach me how to play! Video games are banned in my family. I mean, I've done Just Dance, but that's about it. Mobile games have been kept a secret...basically just teach me to play and don't make me feel bad about playing, and I'll love you forever, mkay?

Ice Cream Date- again, idk. The idea just makes me really happy, whether we're sitting in a small shop, eating and talking. Or maybe we're walking, maybe holding hands, trying to point things out to each other, but our hands are full, but there's no way we're letting go. Or maybe we're sharing a cup of ice cream on a park bench, just people watching.

Thrift Store Outfits- I want to go to a thrift store and pick out the most ridiculous outfits for each other. We don't have to go anywhere, but just humour me when we're alone by wearing whatever I found for you, and vice versa.

Writing- writing a poem, a atory, a quote, or learning calligraphy and just writing their name- I want to write something to you

Books- let's go to the library and choose a book for each other, one that neither of us have read so we can talk and ask questions, come up with theories as we continue to read.

Books pt.2- if you write me a note and give me a book telling me why it's one of your favourites, I'll melt. I'll do the same for you, and soon we'll have a few more things to talk about and enjoy together

Music!- you bet your bottom dollar I'm going to send you music that reminds me of you, and I would be overjoyed to recieve the same.

Music! Pt.2- if you happen to play, sing, or dance, let's make something beautiful together! If not, I'll teach you!

Improv/rp- just making stuff up as we go, not caring if other people hear our conversations.

Trampoline Park/Something Similar- I just want to try it. Don't care if I break my leg, I want to try it. I'll care if you break your leg though.

Plant Shopping- again, idk. Just the idea of choosing a succulent or two to take care of together sounds nice.

Dance Classes- maybe you're already an amazing dancer, I'll let you take the lead. Maybe you just know the basics like me, we can learn together. (I know how to do the basics for, like, salsa, cumbia, bachata, swing, and waltz, that's it. Please teach me more🤩)

Sewing/Knitting/Crocheting/Fabric Work- useful skill! And maybe we can make something for each other. (Spoiler alert: you're getting a pillow case, mask, or a scarf, I can't do much yet😂)

Rage House- let's just let loose! Make a mess! Yell! Doesn't matter, all of it's legit. I just want to destroy stuff.

Weird Cuddles- again, just the idea makes me happy. If you're lying down, I may as well just flop on you, right? Or maybe somehow we end up upside down. Cuddling while we read books or listen to music. Ok so maybe just cuddling but it feels weird because I'm touch-starved👌

Late Night Calls- I've never done this with anyone under happy circumstances. Could you help me change that? It would be nice to have the last thing before I go to sleep be reassurance and happiness.

Calendar/Planning- let's make a calendar together with pictures of the places we want to go one day. Let's talk to each other so we know what we both want and make sure we put it down.

Scuba Diving- this is something I've wanted to do since I was little- actually it was the first job I said I wanted. I don't want to do it as a career anymore, but I would love to try it with you.

Finding Random Things- little things that remind me of you. Maybe I was out and found a heart shaped rock. Or I heard a bird sing and managed to record it. Or maybe there was a cute keychain at the store that reminded me of you. And that would be enough to make me smile.

Ride a Double-Decker Bus- I've done it before, but the excitement that comes with the thought of riding one again makes me giddy. Just being able to see the city and people from a mobile throne😂

Bike Riding- let's explore nearby, just riding together. Maybe you have trails you want to show me. You can lead, I'll follow. Or vice versa. If we get lost at least we can laugh about it later.

Camping- lets share a tent and a campfire together, roasting smores as we laugh and tell each other stories. Maybe we'll try and sing a few songs too.

Punch Buggy- just playing the game properly will make me happy tbh. It's been 8 years of bending the rules😂

Board/Card Games- yes. I will get competitive. But that's half the fun. Also, I would like to play these properly as well lol

Museum Date- maybe somewhere local, or maybe we were driving by and decided to stop, or maybe we actually planned to go. Let's learn something new together, take some pictures.

Comfy- I didn't know what else to call it. Basically, take out, sweat pants, (messy buns), snacks, drinks, and a good show. Bonus if it's storming outside.

Rain- watching it rain, listening tonit rain, going outside and dancing or running in the rain, jumping in puddles- I want to do it all with you.

Little Gestures- little things we develop as we get to know each other, faces that we come to understand, hand movements we start to copy. Idk, I find it really cute.

Okay so this is gonna get long which is why it’s under a cut but I promised to do a post showing every CE that deals with Magecraft so here we are! This took forever please thank me for this. I ended up having to do this in parts cuz wow there’s a lot more CE lore than I anticipated (note: these posts only include CE’s that mention Magical Energy or types of Magecraft, hence why Lugh’s Halo isn’t here)

Azoth Blade

Basic Mystic Code for a mage. A dagger used in ceremonies.

False Attendant’s Writings

A book that entrusts the power of one Master to another. Its creation requires one Command Spell.

The Green Black Keys

Modeled from a cross, this exorcist's tool is used to contact the spirit world.

Rin’s Pendant

A pendant passed down in the Tohsaka family. The highest possible class of jewel, endowed with magical energy from generations of Tohsaka mages.

Grimoire

A book containing the secrets of magecraft. Also a record of the life of its author.

Leyline/Ley Line

Magical energy channeled through the earth. A leyline is the heartbeat of a single, gigantic lifeform.

A jewel used as a catalyst by gem mages.

Dragonkind

The strongest phantasmal species. It has vast power, and creates magical energy just by breathing.

Primeval Magic

A simple spell which benefits you by harming another. Hence primeval.

Projection

NA Translation: A type of magecraft that utilizes magical energy to create a mirror image of one's self.

Direct Translation: A branch of magecraft that utilizes magical energy to reproduce duplicates of an original from the caster's mental image.

Gandr

NA Translation: One of the rune spells passed down in Northern Europe. A type of curse that can reduce the target's physical capability. If the magical energy is highly condensed, it could have the same firepower as a bullet.

Direct Translation: A variety of runic magecraft, passed down in northern regions. A curse with a debilitating effect on its target's bodily functions. When composed with particularly densely-packed magical energy, it can strike with the force of a bullet.

Gem Magecraft/Antumbra (doesn’t actually explain the magecraft btw)

The moon in the night casts a reflection on the lake's surface. The two sisters enhance each other's power.

Imaginary Number Magecraft

A special type of magecraft. A forbidden spell that lays the subconscius bare and turns its negative side to a blade.

Formal Craft

NA Translation: Mastery of the basics is proof of one's superiority. A beautiful, elegant Average One, who rules over Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Ether.

Direct Translation: Fundamentals are the very proof of excellence. She who makes an offering of all five elements, the graceful and magnificent Average One.

Kaleidoscope

NA Translation: A great marshal of magic. Guardian of many possibilities and many futures. Their existence is like a kaleidoscope.

Direct Translation: The grand marshal of sorcery. That person acts as the defender of countless futures, countless possibilities. That existence is the same as a kaleidoscope.

Runestone

NA Translation: Colourful natural stones carved with runes. As if you are gathering the falling stars, you are picking up the fragments of good fortune.

Direct Translation: A rune with multiple colours carved in natural stone. For those who collect what was visibly scattered by the light, a fragment of fortune will be picked up.

Code Cast

NA Translation: A new type of Magecraft used during the Moon Holy Grail War. Created by the most brilliant mages of the time, it ensured that at least some aspects of the mystical and the arcane would once again have their place in the spiritron world.

Direct Translation: A new magic used during the Holy Grail War of the Moon Cell. By the hands of modern magicians, the mysterious shine of the world of spiritrons was reclaimed.

Clock Tower

NA Translation: The de-facto headquarters of the Mage's Association, a major power in the world of magecraft. Many famed mages acquired their knowledge behind its walls, however, behind the glory of its long-standing history, darkness lurks in the shadows.

Direct Translation: The headquarters of the Mage's Association and a large force in the magic world. A schoolhouse from where many magi of renown appear one after the other, but there is an obscure darkness behind the scenes of its long history.

Necromancy

A type of magecraft that processes, makes use of, and commands the dead. In the world of mages, there are many spells that should be avoided, but this man uses without hesitation. "Even if this life ends without any achievements, its death will not be wasted,” The man says as if mocking himself.

Magic Meter

It will detect magical energy over a certain threshold and point to its source. In order to trigger the sensor, an abnormal amount of magical energy must be present, and at its source... something absolutely abnormal.

Elixir of Love 

The elixir created by a mage who excels at controlling one's mind. Even the Servant can't resist its effect. However, use it with caution.Your hidden desire will become an uncontrollable weapon and it will burn you and everything you love to ashes.

Storch Ritter

Einzbern's wirework. An angel's poem will echo through the freezing night. Familiars created with wires and hairs will autonomously capture and attack the enemy. "Storch Ritter" in the bird shape and many other forms exist.

2020 HIGHLIGHTS ✨

rules: list your top 10 shows (bl or not) you watched in 2020 (doesn’t necessarily have to be shows that came out in 2020 though!)

1. 2GETHER & STILL2GETHER

my first thai drama, and even after all the amazing shows i’ve watched this year, it still has a special place in my heart. watching 2gether was the first time i’d ever seen a queer romcom that just... was. for me, by the simple fact of its being, 2gether was revolutionary. and then still2gether came along and took all the best things about the first season and gave us something beautiful and quiet and lovely and just proved to me, once and for all, that queer happiness doesn’t need to justify its own existence. there can be gay cuddles on the beach for no other reason than that we want them. 

2. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

i don’t really have the words for this one but. it makes my heart so very soft.

3. FRIEND ZONE 2: DANGEROUS AREA

season one was mindless fun because everyone was an absolute trashfire and it was hella cathartic to watch, but season 2... wow. i love it for so many reasons: it has messy and authentic queer rep; the characterisation is excellent and i somehow care about all of the characters; amazing women taking centre stage(!); a wlw relationship with lesbian, ace and bipolar rep; multiple interesting plotlines; actual character development; arm weerayut as a chaos gremlin... absolutely one of my favourites of 2020.

4. CHERRY MAGIC

i don’t think i need to explain this one, which is fortunate, because i have no idea how exactly i’d describe the happy-warm-fuzzy-queer-seen-loving-affirmed-profound feeling that rises in my chest whenever i think about it. 

5. THE GIFTED: GRADUATION

confession: i liked season 2 more than season 1 (with the exception of the ending, which we don’t talk about). season 1 was enjoyable and interesting, but for me it was season 2 which made me love this series. it did some incredibly interesting and complicated things (even if it didn’t quite nail the landing): it pushed characters to the breaking point and wove so many layers into the story and questioned its own underlying themes. plus, watching it alongside everyone in the fandom made it 200% better. i love all of you and i love this show. egg girl 5eva.

6. THE SHIPPER

i 100% understand why so many people didn’t like this show, or found it problematic, but through some fluke it absolutely worked for me (even the ending). one day i will write an essay explaining my rationale, but for now i’ll just say that it’s one of my favourite shows about adolescence and queerness and identity and compassion and friendship and love that i’ve ever watched. 

7. YYY

this series is absolutely off its rocker, and it somehow managed to be one of the most affirming shows i’ve watched. it shouldn’t have worked by it did, and i love it so much.

8. 3 WILL BE FREE

absolutely iconic. amazing plot, stunning visuals, great characters, canon polyamory, jennie being incredible... what a series.

9. MANNER OF DEATH

i love the fact that this show exists; i love the mix of crime and romance; i love maxtul’s acting; i love the central relationship; i love bun. i know we’re not even halfway through yet, but this show is doing something special and i’m so grateful that i get to watch it unfold in real time. 

10. CHIHAYAFURU (SEASON 3)

odd one out on my list, but I had to include it. chihayafuru is my all-time favourite anime and it finally got a third season, which is somehow even better than the first two. mashima taichi is one of my favourite characters of all time and his storyline hits me on such a profound level. plus, in the years since i first say this show i’ve fallen in love with classical japanese literature (particularly heian poetry) so i had newfound appreciation for the karuta matches (aka i cried every time someone recited one of my favourite poems)

other favourites: together with me, he’s coming to me, sotus and sotus s, my dear loser: edge of 17, why r u, theory of love, wake up chanee!, gameboys, pearl next door, uta koi (anime), three kingdoms (2010), blood and water (netflix). (itsay would almost certainly be on my list if i’d had time to watch it. same with dark blue kiss, which i had to pause so i could do my assignments)

Final Thoughts

well, it’s been... a year (i don’t think anyone needs a reminder of the details) but writing this post has reminded me of all the amazing shows and people I discovered over the course of it.

Last Movie: Spirited Away (i think)

we showed this movie to my dad and it’s always a wonderful experience. he didn’t like it as much as we hoped to but it was still lovely to rewatch this gem. the scene of the train ride and the sixth train station seriously changed my life forever, sigh i can’t remember if i’ve watched any other movie since then, because i don’t watch many in general and my memory sucks.

Currently Reading: Oh boy, do these tag games keep reminding me how little i read. i’m not even reading something for uni currently, which is so rare? so all i have is still that native nations poetry anthology When The Light of The World Was Subdued, Our Songs Came Through (ed. Joy Harjo). I’ve read around 50 pages so far, it’s a slow progress but i enjoy just reading a handful of poems before going to sleep. other than that, i picked up Crush by Richard Siken and  Yu Xuanji’s poetry (When The Clouds Float North) once again for inspiration purposes. i need to read more in general because i’m noticing that my own writing is a little bit rusty and i need words (also i’ve been neck deep in fics lately)

Currently Watching: Word Of Honor and The Sleuth of The Ming Dynasty

Last week i properly fell into the WOH pit, so i can’t really focus on anything else? which is a nice change after three months of always watching at least five shows at the same time. now i am down to two, and Ming Dynasty is on hold currently until WOH will be over? it’s very enjoyable so far and i really want to get properly into it and give it better attention.  technically i am also on a rewatch of Nirvana In Fire with my ppl, which is absolutely amazing because i miss this show every second of my life and love it so much (and technically i am also watching My Beluga Boyfriend with my sister because???? how can you see a title like this and not be absolutely curious what bonkers show this is) 

What is antipoetry to you: so i had to look this up and i’m really not familiar with this concept, but the thoughts i had while reading about it, is that i’ve always felt all words can be poetry? no matter what medium or what structure, if they touch something inside me or if their rhythm and sound feel beautiful, it’s poetry. any topics and any themes can be poetry, if the way they are delivered make me feel some emotions; i think i am a person that is a lot into the vibes of words? it’s hard to explain but i think you know what i mean. i don’t think poetry should have fixed structures and rules, but should simply makde people feel 

Currently craving: ice cream and more words for my writing 

luckily i bought ice cream a few days ago so i can get some later! and i just want for my writing to go smoother - i know i shouldn’t be hard on myself because it’s amazing that i finally found back to it after months of writing nothing! but it still frustrates me that it takes three hours to barely write three pages. idk, i really need to read more so i can just absorb more vocabulary. i guess it’s okay when i am confused because wen kexing is confused as well and writing him is both a joy and curse? it’s fun and i get to dig in deeply, but also i get easily lost in his and my own head. it’s gonna be fine, eventually.
