Have you ever considered what a meeting of Alois would've been like with the current Dadbastian development? The anime and the 2nd season were both pretty bad in terms of uncomfortable fanservice and handling things very disrespectfully, but thinking back on Alois' character now as an adult, I really pity him as a clearly traumatised and intensely disturbed child, who through abuse has, much like Ciel, developed more 'adult behaviour' that is not appropriate for his age as a defence mechanism. It's probably thinking a bit too optimistically for Dadbastian to extend concern for those outside of his immediate phantomfam, but would you think that maybe, just maybe, Alois could trigger the same kind of protective urges as Ciel? Alternatively, if you were to write something similar to Coattails but instead for Alois and co, do you have any headcanons on how you'd otherwise depict their relationship? Dad Claude? Dlaude??? Hi, anon! As a fellow whimsical ass, I'll do my best to answer your question. Boy, okay, lots to consider here...

First off, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the phrase "current Dadbastian development", but I'm going to assume you're referring to what's happening in Coattails because I don't think there's been any Dadbastian development in the manga that I've missed.

Second off, our feelings on Alois are the same. I was nineteen when season 2 came out and I didn't like it at all, I found its handling of certain themes pretty deplorable and I mean. It was a mess. At the time, I felt indifferent to disturbed by Alois, and ultimately just went away pretending the whole season never happened. However, the current fandom has made me realize that Alois is a character with a lot of potential who was definitely in the wrong hands. It's very sweet to me how many fans still care for him as if he were their adopted son and have come out with some extremely creative and realized content of him. It gives me a better appreciation for him and what he could have been.

So now to actually attempt your question. Again, assuming you're asking about Coattails, Sebastian is only really interested in being a parent to Ciel and a caretaker of varying degrees to the rest of the Phantomfam members. I think he would be able to feel sympathy for Alois's situation, but he's no bleeding heart. I'm not really sure what the scenario is here where somehow Alois and Sebastian are getting to know each other and also Alois might want Sebastian to help him over another person already in his life? It's a little difficult to answer...

And if it was in regards to canon Seb, well... yeah, he's pretty disinterested in anyone that doesn't directly benefit or threaten his contract. I don't think he would do anything to make Alois's life better.

While I hate canon Claude, I certainly think fan content can utilize him as a father figure if they made some tweaks to his character. My bud Em has explored that in this fanfic that I enjoy, and I think she's probably a better judge of Dad-Claude than I could ever be (she might even write a longer story about it someday!). Sort of going off her example, I would keep Claude's awkward/stiff personality intact and get rid of his bad-touch vibes (obviously). Unlike Coattails Sebastian, who is accustomed to big emotions but is new to love specifically, I don't think Coattails Claude would be used to feeling anything outside of his own control. He's also not very playful so he would probably have to learn to let go of things and I just realized I'm describing Bambi's dad's journey in Bambi II so god fucking dammit I did it again—

I mean—it stems from the kuro blog chess idea.

I suppose if a blog is particularly sticky-outy/popular, I take note of what they’d have a title for.

Like, @anawkwardlady and @nullb1rdbones would be the knights of the board for they both impact the Alois (and Claude) community greatly—in their own respective rights (conceptually, therefore anointed two of the hierarchal pieces—Nana with her Weston AU and scenario posts, and Null with their fanfictions, art and S2 rewrite). Hence the “Dame” title for Nana (Null can choose what they deem most fitting for themselves).

I’ve already got the queen worked out (we all know who that is, and due to my recent posting habits, so does she @pain-in-the-butler), and I’ve only speculated the king. (Also worthy to note that art-only blogs don’t register with me—and as amazing as they all are (@/i-n-e-a, @/vapidus-art, etc.) I haven’t added them to the idea. And to that I abide and apologise.)

The hierarchal pieces would be those especially known for concepts or multi-characters pawns would most probably be less-noteworthy blogs in terms of popularity, but still highly prominent in the community.

Pawns would also be assigned to a singular character and perhaps a representative democratically (although it’s just me who’s deciding the roles… sorry, I am such a dictator, I know) or communally elected or merely agreed upon by the communities they are meant to represent.

This is mostly due to the holy-fuck-what amount of Grelle-based blogs there are (especially those with manga-panel profile pictures, like by god, there is a lot), therefore they, as a mostly unspoken but vast community need a president or mayor of sorts.

(Honestly, I’m stuck between @cherumie — who I’ve already called the Grelle Messiah* in the past — and @milfhandholder, they’re both so equally incredible in their own rights. Plus Maia’s written The Whole Being Dead Thing. So… scores, people. Scores. /jk)

As for the UT representative, I can only assume @abybweisse or @imintobones would be a good place holder (although I’m sooner to elect Bones, because the former isn’t just Undertaker-based and therefore would be better suited to a turret or castle or whatever those things are called… as their lengthy analyses on Kuro pieces allow them to travel lengthy paths along the board).

(Plus, if imintobones and cherumie were elected as character representatives, and then Grelltaker was ever hinted or directed to in canon—which it most probably will not, but the idea’s been stuck in my mind ever since I proposed it to bones himself—I just think they should collab or hold hands (/p), or something. As a celebration. The fandom would go wild.)

I’m still stuck on the knaves and other pawns, though. I’d appreciate help on those, thusly.

So...I made a post about this, because I really wanted to hear someone's point of view on this, but it's hard to get noticed on social medias, so I didn't get a single interaction. I thought I could tell you about it and ask what you thought, since you don't mind abt asks and actually rewatched season 2 recently. Basically, I have no intention of rewatching season two bc I know it will make me uncomfortable (plus its trash, I hated it even when I was a teenager who hadn't read the manga), but since I got into Cielois recently and wanted to write a fanfic, I thought I would at least read Alois' past on Wikipedia! And this got me thinking...Manga o!Ciel and Alois have (ironically, since Alois was made to be the opposite of o!Ciel) quite the similarities... I have recognised three. First, they both lost their brother, someone they really cared about, when they were really young. Second, both go by a fake name. o!Ciel uses his brother's identity, Alois is actually named Jim. Third, they're both victims of CSA.

I just find it interesting, and wished we could have seen a better interaction for these two, one where the plot was actually well written, and o!Ciel was in character with his manga personality...

I agree and I find it interesting that manga O!Ciel and Alois have so many similarities. I have no idea if this was just a coincidence in the case of their brothers, we know that Yana probably gave the anime writers an outline of her story for season 1, so she could have told them she had a character who lost their brother. I have no idea if that's the case I don't even know if the writers for season 1 are the same for season 2, but yeah it's definitely interesting.

I actually wouldn't mind if Alois was in the manga but I would need there to be some major changes, I wouldn't want him to have any of his demons or be the lord of a manor (cause c'mon that's just a copy of Ciel's story), but I think it would be cool if he was like one of the boys at Weston or somehow he got into the Soma, Lizzy, Sieglende friend group-idk I kinda go back and forth on whether I think his inclusion would be a good idea.

I very much encourage you to write your fanfic, you can always ask the Alois blogs if you need more insight about his character, they know everything about him lol. Also even though season 2 is a train wreck that gives me second hand embarrassment, it is also pretty funny so I encourage a re-watch if you have the stomach for it. I'm pretty sure @nullb1rdbones created a chart that shows which episodes have yikes content in them, so I think you can ask them if you want to avoid the troubling stuff.

Hi! I hope I haven’t chosen an awkward time to ask you stuff (and that I hope you’re doing better/good. /gen <3) If so, then I don’t mind if you just… ignore this, but it’s been in my head all day, so I’ve returned to the Dame’s lair to ask further.

In Kuro II, when Ciel and Alois are sharing Ciel’s body (and Ciel is the one fronting, at the time), and Claude is butler-ing for Ciel (digging his characterisation into an even deeper, more unstable pit), he (Claude, digging the poorly written themes into an even deeper, more unstable pit) is brushing Ciel’s teeth.

That’s a whole scene. Yes, it’s weird. Yes, it was probably to make Claude even more of a weirdo (that shouldn’t have happened—silently rage-quitting at the fact that they did that, ultimately butchering his character… his actor in the The Making Of OVA was so right. He was our spokesperson, so to speak), but—despite seeing Sebastian do things like bathe Ciel, even in the manga—we’ve never seen Sebastian do that to Ciel (who is also fronting over Alois)?

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the episode, I’ll admit, but—seeing as Kuro II drifted significantly away from canon—not once do I recall picking up on the hint that Ciel, in the Kuro II universe, having Sebastian do that??

So… is it an Alois thing? I mean, I’ve wondered now and then, but your posts the other week about Alois wanting power and therefore asking/ordering Claude to feed him in front of company… this is why I wanted to ask your take on it, because it has a similar feel to it, you know?

Like, perhaps Alois wants to feel in control / want to feel cared for in a more intimate (intimate as in physically close, not sexual, although through the frost-tinted glasses of trauma, it could be perceived as the latter, in the characteristically sick, character study-type way, and not a morally sick, shipping-type way, because ew, gross) way? Perhaps he just wants to feel in control of Claude in a physically intimate, mock-emotionally-intimate/mock-loving way?

Maybe Alois is just clutching at straws. And Claude keeps snipping those straws. (Maybe if Alois knew what he wanted, to be loved, back when he contracted for Claude rather than when he contracted to Hannah, Claude would deliver an act of that love? Still deadpan, still distant, for that is what it is—an act as in a facade, not as in an action… perhaps that would make their situation even more tragic).

So, you're right we never see it with Sebastian and at that time, I thought since Ciel was okay with letting Claude do it, it was a normal part of the routine we were simply not seeing (Although it would be weird, because Ciel's routine has been described in details multiple times but who knows). I do not know if butler did that type of thing but i'm not on the no side (because a quick research didnt came up with anything and Claude was literally on the first page lol).

I think as you said, it's maybe a bit like the food thing. Alois doesn't exactly knows how to use a butler but still assert some power and use Claude's abilities to the most. The thing I pointed out as weird in my food post is that Alois only asked Claude to feed him in public as far as we knows, it might really be that : not fully getting and using a butler abilities to the most as a way to assert his role as the master.

I also think that, like you said, Alois being quite love deprived and also touch deprived I would think, he would ask Claude to do a lot of little tasks like this as a substitution. I also think it's a way for Alois to force interactions with Claude and since Claude is doing them he can trick himself into thinking Claude is doing it out of love and care no matter how monotonous the whole thing is.

Maybe it's also a way for Alois to seek negative attention from Claude too. Claude is only maintaining the illusion of caring because he accepts to do all of this without any protest/better explaining, however it's going to be understood fast enough that no reaction is actually not caring. Alois maybe wants to push him as far as possible to see if Claude reacts. Conflict is a way to maintain a relationship too.

Anyway thats a lot of speculations but also you wanted my take of this sooo, voilà ! Hope you have a nice day/night !

First of all, thank you for making and sharing this video, I really enjoyed it and for quite sometime now I was looking for video essays about kuroshitsuji to help me with trying to understand what I like so much about this story, and this was the best one I found.

One of the main topics that captivates me in the original story is this sort of tragic feeling the overall plot has - honestly it really gets to me the way that the only person our!Ciel can really trust while seeking his goal is the same creature who vowed to devour his soul in the first place. I could go on and on about how this dynamic is captivating in a morbid way, but that’s not what I am here for. 

Going straight to the point, the perspective of how the story is going to end makes me quite anxious and after watching this video I think I understand this feeling better. With the way things are going on in the manga I don't really think we are getting a happy ending - at best it'll be bittersweet - and to be honest I don't really know how I fell about all this.

As someone who reads to be entertained I don't care if it's a bad ending as long as it's well written, but as someone who has followed their story for years and is really attached to the characters I really wish I could go inside the story and make things go well for them, especially Ciel. God knows he needs some love and understanding.

So when I saw your interpretation - that Alois sacrificed himself and his own happy ending for a way for Ciel to escape his certain narrative doom - I felt really moved. Especially because I think your arguments were very solid and, though I don't really know if your interpretation is true to the writer's intention, I think I am happier when I believe it.

Tbh when I first watched S2 I didn't like Alois (mostly because I thought he was badly written and just a tool for fan service), but I never really hated him and after watching this I think I even like him a lot.

Also that part in which you drew the comparisons between all of the main arcs of the manga and the second season blew my mind (and the corkboard part was funny wkufhkurwbf).

People can enjoy the Black Butler anime all they want, I was introduced to the manga by watching the anime. But let me tell you one thing, I will forever resent season 1 and season 2 of the black butler anime, it completly ruins the perception of the actual well-written storyline and it ruins so many good characters.

Also, before the Alois lovers attack me, I literally loved his character when I watched season 2 for the first time, but now I just wish that season didn't exist so we could’ve had more room for the canon compliant manga content.

When I read the manga for the first time I literally thought "Fuck. This manga is so fucking good and people are going to think im an absolute wierdo for enjoying it because of the anime."

The manga actually portrays Ciel and Sebastians dynamic in a more realistic and non gross and pedophelic manner. The manga makes Grell smarter instead of her just being a laughing stock and punching bag. The manga acknowledges and portrays the secondary characters a lot better and gives them depth. The manga follows a consistent plot.

Not to mention, the characters in the manga are a lot prettier than in the anime? Sebastian was done soooo dirty in the first 2 seasons of the anime.

I don't mean to shun the people who enjoy the anime, you can enjoy it all you want. But im just personally upset over the fact that this anime gives Kuroshitsuji very bad representation and overall perception.

Sigh. Can Black Butler just get a re-do or something? I would atleast love the Public School arc or Green Witch arc to get animated someday.

If you only watched the anime of Kuroshitsuji and heavily disliked it, I heavily advice you to read the manga. I've been obsessed with it for years, its genuienly so good.

And if you are someone who likes black butler but only watched the anime, I invite you to read the manga since it has a more consistent storyline and you get monthly content instead of rewatching the same episodes over and over!

My Alois Trancy theory/Headcanon that I will stand by no matter what

Here is your preemptive trigger warning for the fallowing; mention/implication of pedophilia/sexual abuse (I’m going to try to keep it as vague as I can but it’s also a huge part of Alois’s backstory), suicide, kidnapping, and death in general. I think that’s all so read at your own risk! You have been warned

I will admit that I am still a Black Butler fan. It’s one of those series I watched in middle school when I was just getting into anime and it one that I usually go back to and reread from time to time.

I wasn’t really a fan of the way season one of the anime ended (since it diverted so much from the manga), and I’m not a huge fan of the Trancy Arc (season 2 of the anime) in general. But I do adore Alois as a character, he is my boy and I refuse to believe he died at the end of the season. In my heart my son is finally free and happy, i don’t care about the anime’s “cannon” (the season isn’t even canon to the manga anyway).

But I digress. I recently started reading the manga again and as I was refreshing my memory of the characters, I had a thought. What if Alois WAS the former earls actual biological son?

I’m sure - given how old the series is - people have already thought of this before, but I don’t care. This is my 1 am theory/headcanon and I need to write it down while it’s fresh in my mind.

So, just a vague recap of Alois incase you are unfamiliar; Alois Trancy, aka Jim Macken, (I will be referring to him as “Alois” for consistency) is an anime exclusive character introduced as an antagonist of the Trancy arc. He is the second named contract holder, contracted to the anime exclusive demon Claude Faustus. Alois is a former orphan boy who, after the death of his entire village including his little brother Luka, is taken by the former Earl Trancy and is subjected to years of pedophilic sexual abuse. Alois is later given the name “Alois Trancy”, is played off as the earls son, inherits the Trancy estate after the earls death, and forms a contract with Claude.

Now that we are all caught up, let’s get into the theory. As I mentioned earlier I strongly believe that Alois is actually the Earls biological son. As part of a made up backstory Alois often tells, he says that he was kidnapped shortly after his birth, causing his mother - the Countess - to kill herself from the grief.

Now it’s unknown if this is “canonically” true. Alois’s presumed uncle Arnold Trancy has his reservations on if Alois is actually related to them by blood. But I think this fake backstory could have actual grounds for being true. Why do I think this? Where am I even going with this post? I’m glad you asked.

First I’m going to explain my version of Alois’s background, and then I’ll quickly explain my main pieces of evidence.

The Background

Here’s how I see the events of Alois’s life playing out before what’s shown in the anime.

Countess Trancy was likely already well aware of her husbands, less than acceptable desires (for a lack of better words), prior to Alois’s birth. It’s possible that at the time it would have been difficult for her to leave the marriage or the house in general for one reason or another, so finding out she was pregnant was likely not ideal. The countess likely would have feared for her child’s safety in the house and made a plan to protect her future child. The “kidnapping” wasn’t really a kidnapping at all, but rather shortly after his birth (likely after the portrait shown in the anime was made/taken), the countess’s plan was put into motion.

I believe this was a “baby was entrusted to a maid who placed him with a commoner family to protect him” type of scenario. The countess handed off baby Alois to a trusted maid who left the baby on the doorstep of a couple from a nearby village (cough cough the Mackens cough cough). The countess them may have actually killed herself as both an out from her husband and as a final way to keep her baby safe.

Alois would then have been raised as Jim Macken, becoming a big brother later on when Luka is born, and is none the wiser to his true identity. Since we never see Mr and Mrs Macken, I could even see one or both of them sharing physical traits with Alois that help pass him as their son; ie blonde hair and/or blue eyes. Or they could have passed it off as recessive traits that skipped a generation.

After this, the rest of his backstory plays out like how it’s explained in the anime.

The evidence

Now I bet you’re where I got this wacky idea from. Well let me share the two big reasons I have; Alois looks incredibly similar to Countess Trancy, and the former earls comment about Alois’s eyes.

If the jury will look to exhibit A. Above I have included an image of Alois (left) and the late Countess Trancy (right). You might have to click for better viewing, but you can already see in similarities. They both share similar platinum blond hair and icy blue eyes. Could this be a coincidence? Sure. Do I necessarily 100% trust the trivia section of the characters wiki? Not really, no. Mainly given the fact that this season is non canonical to the series, I feel like I get a little leeway in this. Exhibit B follows off this point, and it’s specifically regarding the reason the former Earl disliked Alois originally; his eyes. It’s explained in the series that, prior to Alois becoming his favourite (🤢), the Earl despised Alois because of his “filthy eyes”. Now what’s a good reason - other then Alois rightfully giving the disgusting excuse for a human being a serious death glare - that the Earl would call them “filthy”? Could it be because they remind him of his late wife’s eyes, who also had light icy blue eyes?

Do you see where I’m going with this?

To me, it’s likely that the Earl hated Alois’s eyes because they reminded him of his late wife’s. Do I think the guy was smart enough to put two and two together? No, not at all. But I think it could be plausible that Earl Trancy could have recognized something in Alois’s eyes that made his detest them for so long.

Of course this then makes Alois’s backstory so much worse and sadder, but hey I don’t control when my 1 am thoughts tell me.

Character I most identify with: Lizzie I think! She's sweet and badass and wants what's best for Ciel, even if she doesn't completely understand what's going on or how he changed from what she remembered as a child. When I started shipping them: Season 1 episode 1 tbh. They have great chemistry and bother each other a lot but also genuinely care about each other which is so important!

What makes me happy about them: The way they are willing to sacrifice themselves for each other! Merlin drinks poison for Arthur and Arthur ignores his father and places himself in danger to save Merlin's life, who his father dismisses as a mere serving boy and Arthur's like he's more than that!! to me!! and I just

What makes me sad about them: Girl the everrrryything 😭 the tragedy of Merlin doing all he can to prevent Arthur's death at Camlann but all he does just makes it happen. The tragedy of Merlin becoming so jaded over the course of the show, with how trusting and happy he was in season 1 and how unwilling he was to trust or give Mordred a fair chance in season 5 - especially when it came to the girl Mordred loved. The fact that Arthur never found out about Merlin's magic until it's too late!! That Merlin spends the whole show worried Arthur will hate him when he finds out, and does his best to ensure magic won't return to Camelot and advises Arthur not to trust magic,,,, ough agggh the agonies!!

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: no magic AU or modern AU. Yeah I know the show ends showing Merlin still around in modern day waiting for Arthur, but I don't care! I want them to be around in Arthurian times and causing and solving problems. Throw in angst as needed, but don't put them in a place without magic or in modern day. I also tend to avoid major character death - I'm usually not opposed to it if done right since angst is a good time, but since it happened irl in the show I can't handle it in fic

Things I look for in fanfic: I never say no to a good magic reveal fic!! Especially if it takes a minute for Arthur to forgive Merlin for not saying anything and he's mean about it and makes Merlin feels bad and then feels bad later when he gets over it and Merlin is sad and they work on themselves together. Hurt/comfort type stuff!

My wishlist: That Merlin's magic gets revealed to Arthur sooner than canon and that Arthur comes to terms with it and magic is accepted in Camelot, that Merlin dates Arthur and Arthur dates Gwen and Gwen dates Morgana <3 Also that Uther dies choking on his own blood. Not related to Merthur but also still related to them cause his Huge Bitch disease prevented them from being happy

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Merlin with Gwaine and Arthur with Gwen! Gwaine and Merlin are so sweet actually, and we see how good Arthur and Gwen are in canon

My happily ever after for them: Merlin is court sorcerer/magical advisor to Arthur, also maybe his royal boyfriend, and they rule Camelot in peace and happiness. Morgana is happy with Gwen and Mordred is vibing somewhere to, maybe with his gf if we want to continue pretending he's straight

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I would have loved to get more backstory on Jonah Magnus, or somehow hear statements from the people he hung out with in ye olden times in their own voices! It would also have been neat to hear his own thoughts/feelings on living through a ton of shit - invention of electricity, the car, the airplane, the internet! I would love to hear if he thinks everything is cool and better now or if he's a crotchety old bitch about it and is like "back in my day 😤"

I have a strange relationship with Season II, in that Yana had so little to do with it, beyond character designs and tidbits of input. However it has always, fascinated me, that Alois met Claude, in a dream. Claude showed up for him, before he had a sacrifice or even a wish. Alois Trancy was born "Jim Macken" and that surname is celtic in origin, with roots in Wales, Scotland and Ireland (I think it originated in Ireland). 'Luka' is also a bit interesting to me because it could have slavic or italian/spanish origins, so I always assumed, perhaps their birth father was of celtic origin, and their birth mother was italian or spanish (this also might account for the 'Ole!' he's saying, often.) "Hoheo Taralna Rondero Tarel" Was said to be a spell that was supposed to summon a "fairy." - This also fascinated me, because even though it was supposed to have no meaning, there's definitely some broken spanish/italian latin, in there. "I'm not a fairy [...] I'm a demon" was the english translation (more-or-less, I am paraphrasing) of what Claude said, and I take that with a grain of salt. Even if that translation was flawless (it's not), I didn't for even a second think Claude meant that he was a demon that aligns with abrahamic mythology... I took it to mean it was Claude's way of explaining to him, very quickly in a way he could understand, that there was protocol to follow to unlock his powers, and he wasn't a "good" entity. "Fairies" and other monsters in Celtic folklore were notorious for being extremely dangerous and absolutely killed/hurt people, kidnapped entire people, and souls, into the Otherworld. Many could manipulate fire, too. They could come in any shape or form you can think of... While yes, SII isn't manga-canon and Yana had little to do with it, she still had SOMETHING, to do with it... and personally I think some of better parts about it were Claude and Alois, and their dynamic ... I thought they were interesting, and there were still a lot of Celtic elements in the anime-only storyline as well as the manga storyline.

You got this ask fair while back... someone seemed interested in your Irish connections and theories, but also seemed uncertain that Irish violations and their plight, would be showcased as a centrepiece when so much of Black Butler / Kuroshitsuji has paranormal fixations. I found that very odd? When so much of Indian, German, and to an extent Japanese and Anglo folklore / spirituality is also showcased in Kuroshitsuji...so I suppose my question is. When do you think we'll see it (if we see it) and what paranormal aspects pertaining to Irish Mythology do you think would fit into the story if you had to guess?

I don't think it's a matter of how Yana will weave/reference (more) Irish history and (more) Irish/Celtic Mythology into the story, or even how she's going to weave more of it, going forward. @apocalypticromantic666 , @seekers-who-are-lovers , @noirserviteur Have all found many general Celtic/Scottish/Irish connections and references in Kuro, I'm not the only person who has seen it. I'm particularly fond of this post (though the user deactivated) pointing out that the Phantomhive Graveyard has both protestant crosses (Church of England) and Celtic crosses (most likely Irish catholic) for gravestones. (here) It's not as necessary to me how much is included so long as more is included and considering the recent chapters I have no reason to think there wont be? Most of all, I wanted to point out, what already HAS been woven into it, and thematically that it makes logical sense, being the time period, and location and the repeated theme surrounding Indentured Servitude. In addition... I also believe some of the "paranormal" and "supernatural" elements connected to Irish mythology could already very much be there, even if it is/they are only referenced in name... 'hiding' in plain sight. The "Phantomhives" deal with England's "Underworld" do they not?

Do you know about the "Tuath Dé" or the "aes sídhe"...? If you don't, I highly recommend looking into the other "cycles"... starting with the Mythological Cycle.

Mera! what was the anime that you watch back when you were still new in anime for only the characters, but when you decided to re watch it the story was actually fucked up 💀 mine was diabolik lovers (13 year old me was obsessed with shu 😭) brother conflict (...... i dont have comments in this) amnesia (the part where the dude lock the girl in the cage 💀) and danganronpa

Looking back on it now, little Mera watched all sorts of dark anime. ^^;;; I’ll put it under a cut because of potential spoilers for some of the anime discussed.

I also watched Diabolik Lovers (Kanato was my favorite) and Danganronpa. I remember feeling so depressed after what happened to Sakura. She was one of my favorite characters. I loved her friendship with Aoi. T_T I attempted to watch Brother’s Conflict, but I couldn’t get past the first episode because there were so many characters to keep up with.

I watched Watamote, which was dark in its own way. I felt terribly for Tomoko and how hard she tried to fit in. I remember feeling very satisfied with the ending, but it’s been so long since I’ve last seen it. I’ll have to watch it again to better appreciate the series and relive the nostalgia of watching it for the first time.

In my early teenage years, I watched Netflix’s Devilman Crybaby when it first came out. To this day, it’s one of my favorite anime. I rewatch it every year and each time it gives me pain, but it’s just so good.

This image is forever engraved in my mind. They really had me in the first half until I saw Akira’s lips were getting progressively dry. I also watched Japan Sinks in 2020 and that was another wave of pain and sadness. I’ve been meaning to rewatch it!

Black Butler was also really dark. Ciel makes a pact with a demon after being held captive by a cult (if I remember correctly) and he’s essentially a young boy trying to navigate adult society. Alois’s backstory was also really sad and dark. It seems no one can be happy in Black Butler. I haven’t caught up with the manga, but apparently Ciel has a twin!

Panty & Stocking wasn’t dark, but it was very explicit and it was an anime I had watched when I was first getting into anime. I probably shouldn’t have watched it at my age, but I thought the two main characters had really pretty designs and the art style was unique. Luckily, most of the sexual jokes went over my head. I just thought the premise of angels fighting demons and ghosts after getting kicked out of heaven was interesting lol.

There are probably other anime I haven’t mentioned yet, but those were a few I remembered. Amnesia has been on my to-watch list for years now. Maybe I should finally watch it soon?

Although I'm definitely not a fan of season 2 of Kuro, I truly believe it'd be nice to have a character in the manga be sort of a parallel/equivalent of Alois. Poor kid deserves better writing and his concept wasn't bad at all (Another perspective of what happens to victims of trauma, you know? A character that went through something similar to O!C but became a different person altogether)

I think maybe R!C could play that role? But I'm not sure.

It’s harder for me to analyze characters that are exclusive to the anime, since Yana-san didn’t create them, and so they don’t really fit into what she’s doing with the manga. They are more like fanfic offshoots, honestly. The anime teams were given some amount of information that the readers were not privy to, and then the anime teams came up with their own scenarios for this information. I mean with s1 and s2, anyway.

Claude, to me, represents the lowly sort of demon that Sebastian doesn’t associate with. So does Hannah. Claude is the sort who will abandon a contract, kill the contractor anyway, and try to “trade up” for a supposedly better contract (even by stealing it). Hannah is perfectly willing to maintain more than one contract at a time, even if the contracts interfere with each other, and she will also steal contractors. These tactics are not aesthetically pleasing to Sebastian.

Now, Yana-san has said (tweeted) that Sebastian doesn’t exactly care about our earl, outside the requirements of the contract. Sebastian likes to see the kid in torment, etc. and would definitely just kill/eat the kid’s soul if he gave up on the goals he’s used as his wish. During the green witch arc, if our earl had truly given up, it would have been game over. Probably the only reason Sebastian was merely 90% serious about eating his soul right then and there is because the other 10% of him wanted to continue the contract to its completion. But, if Sebastian couldn’t get our earl to snap out of it, it would have been time to eat… a slightly underdone meal.

Claude apparently doesn’t care as much about a contract he’s got… if another’s soul seems like it would taste better. But Sebastian is completely dedicated to whatever contract he’s working on… even if it means occasionally having to remind his contractor of their goals, as well as what would happen if those goals were abandoned.

One other thing about Alois’ contract with Claude: What exactly was the end goal? It seems to have changed after his tormentor was dead and Alois got the estate. Somehow “Ciel” and Sebastian got incorporated into the list of wishes/demands. Probably thanks to Jim/Alois not knowing it was his own younger brother and Hannah who had burned down their old village. But the explanations throughout his story are extremely muddy. Another reason it’s harder for me to analyze. It is simply not as well written, to begin with.

Extra Headcannons/Information to Isekai protagonists tier list:

- Most of the PSC are already romantically together in my mind, or lore droppers. (i.e. Nahida, Venti, Dori, Collei)

- I like the idea of Diluc being there in the Reincarnated Hero’s tier. The “Darknight Hero” could be a comic panel, or he could be transported into a generic western royalty Isekai setting in where he is a nobleman who kills and avenges people for wrongdoings.

- Itto seems like too much of a goofball to keep around for to long. It could get grating for some people. But, he would probably appear in a few places, because having enough of him is all the plot could take.

-Yanfei is probably an unimportant side character lawyer who appears for one season, then leaves to have cameos here and there. The same with most of the other background characters. Klee, Qiqi, and Sayu are kids that need help to make the hero or villain seem kind. Xiangling and Faruzan are the younger cersion’s chef’s/Teacher’s/Aid. Aloy is a hunter or crossover character. She could also be a Reincarnated Hero du to her being brought to Teyvat.

- Although I love Tartaglia being a Reincarnated Villain, I think he also has a life being in the protagonists’ love life. He would most likely be either a reincarnated villain love interest, or be said villain love interest that either has to die or gets a happily ever after. Hope he avoids those death flags!🚩🚩🚩

-Aether and Lumine always being separated is ✨✨Amazing✨✨/j

-Although Ei/Raiden could be the original villain, but I was thinking Yae Miko could have reincarnated into that world and try to “calm” Ei from her warmongering ways.

- Hu Tao probably died thinking she would move on to the afterlife. Nope. Gotta suffer once more. BUT! She could most likely be either or a Hero or Villain. But, she is like other isekai protagonists in where she creates a burial service because she wants to work and to not be the royal mistress of a marriage. She could have been a manga/light novel fan who went to that world and wants to live a peaceful life without any worry. So, she becomes a funeral parlor director, and opens a shop, but most likely moves around, so she’s a traveling mortician and it would be a slice of life and be oh so great!

- The Second Romantic Lead’s are the prominent other lead that could also be reincarnated characters. Who knows! But, their fate are to not love the main love interests.

- The Other Romantic Lead Side Characters are the extra harem members that could get a spin-off. They deserve better.

- Funny idea. Diona, Kaeya, and Diluc are in the same universe. Kaeya and Diluc are old childhood friends that fell apart and but heads during every ball scene, who aids Diona in sabotaging the economy of the Kingdom they live in, and to deplete the lands of their resources, as they have personal vendettas. The romantic interests would be Kaeya and Albedo.

- Ningguang could totally be a villain who will never tell the hero they were behind some of the major incidents in the story. Beidou is her love who is just out having fun.

- Layla is THE total underdog.

- Gorou could totally be a hero too!

- Layla and Candace would probably be the two heroes of their world, fighting against a corrupt system first, and then they improve the community, and become a separate area from the old country itself. It just has the vibes.

- Mr. Ayato is a total sussy man. But he would most likely be avoidant of the Hero and instead ends up with Thoma. His world has Scaramouch as the kid wanting revenge, and Ayato is a villain who then helps Scaramouch in exchange for him not killing Ayato. Maybe they are all in the same world with Yae Miko and Ei, and this ends with the fight of two reincarnated friends(?) trying to kill each other for what they believe is right,

Honorable Mentions!:

Baizhu gives the sussy vibes, but would probably be a reluctant reincarnated hero, or a “Do my own thing” hero. He could also be a suspicious romantic interest.

Dottore is a total villain. Also the rest of the Fatui until stated later.
