"mac plays skee-ball to win tickets for a prize" actually the most diabolical part of that ep description for me....WHAT is the prize??????? will he have a specific motivation beyond "haha i want a prize/that prize"??? i hope its a specific prize....and how are they going to show it like is it really just going to be his attempts over and over again?? all this paired with the flashbacks???? the fact that the rest of the gang has paired off except for him....
#as much as i love mr tibbs w all the mac meta w his childhood and parents etc we already got.....#the potential this has is making me gnaw on my arm#and im curious to see how they show it because him having multiple attempts at one game is very funny but that cant ONLY be what happens...#sunny sweet 16#also intrigued by the scavenger hunt#and charden animatronic sex i mean mature men with an interest in robotics#i think its a specific prize bc thats more interesting from a writing POV....it makes the motivation deeper#but also if he just wants a prize for the sake of A Prize that would be :( too :( unzip me

my scion animal assignments (aka the daemon au that lives in my brain)
alphinaud: fancy rat (very smart and social, a little scurrying guy, busy little hands, can learn tricks, good to ride around on a shoulder, prey animal)
alisaie: coati (clever little omnivore with prehensile tails. females are very social with each other and form lifelong social ties (and also have bigger frontal cortexes than the males!) (my original thought was ocelot/margay although im veering away from that bc kit miqosquat @sunquail pointed out those are rather solitary critters. they also suggested magpies or woodpeckers? i also admit i have some biased fondness for coatis since they were in a local zoo when i was growing up heheh. this one might change - luckily in a daemon au we can sort of fudge when the twins settled. i think alphinaud settled earlier than alisaie.)
minfilia: luna moth (i knew i wanted a moth bc of flying towards light, the mythological tie to death, and the fleeting life - adult silk moths (which luna moths are) live an extremely short adult lifespan and literally cannot eat in their adult bodies. i went with luna moth because they're very striking and pretty)
yshtola: some species of pit viper (venomous, and an ambush predator. the duality between the venom and the association with healing. pit vipers (rattlesnakes, for example) have very poor vision but have extremely good heat-sense and sense of smell. y'shtola to me is someone who waits for the right time to do things and then does them very dramatically. snakes are also just sort of occult.)
thancred: coyote (has to be SOME type of canine. scrappy little scavengers who are so good at thriving under pressure. seen as a pest. evolved as a secondary predator. canis latrans = talking dog. social patterns can vary and adapt throughout an individual's lifespan - solitary, in a pair, in a pack. i have more coyote facts if you want them)
urianger: bearded vulture (so augury was a roman practice of divination through birds (also the source of the words 'auspicious' and 'inauguration' - and augurelt!), and augurs were the people who read the will of the gods through birdwatching. so it has to be a bird. vultures were a majorly important bird in augury, and i like the parallel you can draw between a scavenger of carrion and the hvw and shb gambits urianger was part of. i settled on bearded vultures bc i also wanted to pick something visually suitable as well - bearded vultures have a head of feathers, and have a sort of gawky golden elegance that suits urianger well. hey wikipedia also just told me that in ancient egypt vultures were associated with motherhood - i always win and i NEVER lose.)
ryne: cheetah (a lightning-fast predator who is also extremely anxious and needs companionship. the emotional support dogs from zoos also ties nicely to thancred being canine. her unsettled forms were mostly small little prey animals - rabbits (baby birch by joanna newsom), little songbirds (for the cage association - nightingales and canaries), lambs (sacrificial slaughter), and a lot of trying to force her daemon to be butterflies/moths to match minfilia.)
graha: meerkat (a funny little clever guy who builds a big city and needs to be in a group of people and also he can fight a poisonous viper. ballsy. the sweetest of the mongooses. to quote kit: "they're weirdly possessive over Their people. like they're cliquish kinda, they're extroverts and love to hang out with people, but they have THEIR special people also. who are favoured")
tataru: potbelly pig (extremely intelligent and cute. and PINK! my reasons are simple but effective.)
estinien: [placeholder] (i haven't put much thought into it bc my main thoughts for a daemon au would be about ryne settling during the events of shb and he isn't in the scions for that. has to be some type of predator that can survive in harsh conditions and isn't very social. a few of you are saying hunting bird, which is intriguing... like a heron or a cormorant. maybe an albatross? i'm also thinking snow leopard maybe, but also :/ lord asriel from hdm :/ )
krile: mourning dove (migratory. i think she'd be a domesticated animal, and they're close relatives of passenger pigeons. my main theme i identify for krile is constantly being the lone survivor/arriving late to the grief (minfilia, the isle of val, eureka story choice, the ninth). the colors also suit her. and there's a certain melancholy calm to her... also there's a huron/wyandot story about mourning doves guarding the entrance to the underworld that made me go HEY. OKAY LET'S GO)
#chirps#i also have thoughts for the teens' preferred unsettled forms.#ffxiv#robffxiv#NOW WITH REASONINGS#changed tataru's to potbelly pig instead of teacup bc the tagger is correct. HEALTHY ANIMALS!#now with smth for krile.

Jeremy Brett Vs. Jonathan Frid
Propaganda
Jeremy Brett - (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Three Musketeers, BBC Play of the Month) - "Listen, I fell in love with One Man when I was 16 and have never regretted it. Jeremy Brett is Everything. Handsome, charming, sweet, amazing voice, delightfully eccentric. Shakespearean actor best known for playing Sherlock Holmes in the 80s, he is widely considered the definitive Holmes and for good reason. Bisexual and bipolar, devoted husband, he was known to serenade friends at restraunts and hold scavenger hunts in his home, where he hid the plunger in a chandelier. Often pigeonholed into period pieces, he owned them. He was a pretty young man who became not just handsome but arresting. He was one of those people who walked into a room and instantly commanded attention, and I for one have never regretted giving him my attention." Full text propaganda included below the cut
Jonathan Frid - (Dark Shadows) - the man who brought the first sympathetic vampire in pop culture to life! he was so hot that they sent him on a ten-city tour. he was so hot that teen magazines auctioned off dates with him. he was so hot that allegedly women would mail him love letters and/or nude pictures of themselves! he gave what should have been a quickly-killed-off soap opera villain/dracula knockoff a sense of gravitas, intrigue, and humanity that ultimately made him the star of the show. watching him act is always a treat. I've also met several people who knew him, and overall he just seems like a great guy. there's a documentary about him free on tubi, i recommend checking it out! (fun fact, he was also gay. who on tumblr doesn't love gay vampires).

Jeremy Brett:
“The superbly handsome Jeremy Brett, the regularity of his features made dramatic by a broken nose, the mellifluousness of his voice made arresting by a slight vocal impediment, presented a ravaged and romantic Holmes, a man who had suffered deeply and whose recourse to the syringe was the compulsion of a self-destroying temperament. His relationship with Edward Hardwicke’s transparently decent Watson was that of a drowning man clinging to a raft. The authenticity of the performance was unmistakable.” — “The man who created a monster; Conan Doyle hated the fame of his suave hero, but he couldn’t kill him”, Simon Callow, The Times, 18 December 2009.

In War and Peace he is very clearly the only actor riding a real horse, and is one of few actors who played both Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Often pigeonholed into period pieces, he owned them. Satoru "I'm just a man" Gojo. Happy Birthday to our sweet loser :*
Satoru stood in the middle of his living room, arms crossed, a pout creeping onto his usually smug face. His blindfold rested lazily around his neck, revealing eyes that were far too beautiful for someone sulking. He glanced at his phone again. No messages. No sly emojis. No secretive texts from neither his friends nor students.
“I’m gonna head to the grocery store here in a bit. Did you add what you wanted to the list?” You dug through your bag fishing out your wallet before taking a glance over at Satoru. “Toru? You good?”
Satoru turned to you, huffing and dragging his feet until he laid his head on your shoulder.
“No birthday brunch, no room full of my favorite people, no Nanamin telling me I can sit on his lap. Baby, I'm 35 today and my friends don't care!”
“Honey.”
“Yes my darling wife.”
“Remember when I asked you 7 months ago what you wanted to do for your birthday?” You gently rubbed his back as he draped his large frame onto you.
“Mhm.”
“And every other time every month til yesterday even?”
Satoru turned to you, his lashes lightly brushing against your neck. “Yes.” he pouted.
“And remember when you said that the only thing you needed to celebrate was a full day of peace and some sweets with your sweet?”
“And you took me seriously! Of all the times to take me seriously baby, seriously.” He lifted himself and gently took you by the shoulders.
“So you don’t want to spend the day with me and eat homemade bon-bons and ice cream cake?”
“Any day with you is heaven my sweet goji berry,” Satoru planted a warm kiss on your temple and fished out his card to slide it into your bag.
“Tread lightly baby girl. I hear that ‘but’ coming.” you glared.
“No buts. Just how much I love yours.” He pursed his lips, almost duck lip like, for a kiss and you couldn’t help but oblige. You did the same, pursing your lips and met his before he embraced you.
“It won't take me long to get the things we need to make our bon-bons. I’m also going to stop by the mail station. I’ll be back soon.
“I can manage an hour by myself on my 35th birthday. I’m brave.”
You softly grabbed his chin. “The bravest. I’ll see you in a bit.” You kissed his cheek and left out the door.
“Not even a surprise from my boys,” he muttered, flopping dramatically onto the couch. “Unbelievable. I am maxing their Christmas list items to 15. They’ll see how it feels then.”
As he wallowed, his eye caught something on the coffee table: a colorful flyer with bold letters.
~~~"Citywide Scavenger Hunt! Follow the clues for an adventure to remember."~~~
A crooked smile broke across his face. “Well, well, well, what’s this?”
Clue One was printed at the bottom:
*"Where the storm passed and sweetness brewed, love first whispered, quiet but true."*
Gojo tilted his head, pondering. It sounded oddly familiar. Shrugging, he grabbed his coat and headed out, intrigued despite himself.
---------
The cafe was as quaint as ever, tucked between a bookstore and a flower shop. It was the kind of place you could walk by a hundred times without noticing unless you were looking for it. Led by his own hunch, Gojo stopped in front of the window, his sharp gaze scanning the hand-written menus and neatly arranged pastries.
At first, it didn’t click. He was about to walk away when the memory hit him like a stray curse punch. “Storm, brew, whispers.”
“Ohhh, thiiiis place!” he exclaimed, startling a couple passing by. “This is where we hid from that rainstorm!”
Satoru had put together a last minute picnic that got rained out within 5 minutes that day. He found the nearest cafe, where you’d spent 4 hours giggling and establishing the relationship you now had.
He stepped closer to the window, remembering how you’d insisted on ordering for him. You’d teased that he was “sweet enough” for a matcha latte—a line he hadn’t let you live down for weeks. And that day...
“That’s right,” he whispered to himself. “That was the first time I wanted to say ‘I love you.’”
On the window, taped neatly near the corner, was the next clue:
*"Where koi dance and words lingered long, love spoke bold, with hope it belonged."*
Gojo’s lips quirked upward. “Koi pond, huh? You’re making me work for this, aren’t you?”
He reached for his phone to text you but stopped himself. If this was your doing, he didn’t want to ruin it by cheating. Instead, he turned on his heel and made his way to the park. “City wide scavenger hunt my ass. My baby loves me!”
________
The koi pond glistened under the afternoon sun, tiny ripples reflecting light like scattered diamonds. Gojo meandered along the path, hands in his pockets, until he spotted someone sitting on a familiar park bench.
“Nanamin!” Gojo shouted, startling a flock of pigeons nearby.
Nanami barely flinched, his attention fixed on a book he held in one hand.
“What are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’ve finally realized I was right on how much sun you need? You’re welcome!” Gojo plopped down beside him, grinning ear to ear.
Nanami sighed audibly, closing his book with deliberate slowness. “I’m going to let you talk because it’s your birthday. But please, be quieter.”
Gojo seemed surprised at Nanami remembering the best day of everyone’s life. Though the appreciative look stopped once he recalled his own complaints from this morning.
“So you DO remember my birthday, Nanami.”
“Hard to forget the day that changed the course of history, Gojo.”
“And yet,” Gojo pulled out his phone, pulled up his call logs and shoved the phone in Nanami’s face. “I receive not even a quick call to celebrate my great entry into this world.”
Nanami closed his book as he turned to Gojo. “I have been busy this morning. And you’re 35. The fruit basket I’m sending will be enough.”
“The only thing that will be enough is if you let me sit in your lap.” Gojo batted his eyes as if he were flirting to save his life.
“No.”
“Pleeeeease. It’s just 5 seconds of lap time.”
“No.” Nanami deadpanned.
After 18 years of knowing one another, Nanami was fully aware that this wasn’t going to be the last time he’d be asked this. Mostly because this was the 56th time being asked and Gojo seemed desperate.
The blonde sighed and patted his leg. “You have eight seconds. Then immediately get up or i’m pushing you off.”
Gojo’s face lit up like a kids and jumped into Nanami’s lap. He sat still then after only 4 seconds, Gojo stood up. “Eh. That was underwhelming. A bit of a waste.”
Before Nanami forgot why he was there, he reached into his inside suit pocket and pulled out an envelope. “Take this before I forget my promise of being kind to you.”
He handed Gojo the envelope, his expression as unreadable as ever.
Gojo opened it, pulling out another neatly written clue:
*"Where koi dance and words lingered long, love spoke bold, with hope it belonged."*
“Wait a second.” Gojo stared at the pond. Memories flooded back—You and him sitting here late one evening, legs brushing as he rambled about some silly story. You laughed and he looked over at you, his heart unexpectedly full, and blurted it out.
“Hey, this is the place I told them I loved them,” he said, grinning. “This time I said it and they said it back! Pretty sure they cried. Tears of joy, of course..”
Nanami gave him a flat look. “You’re unbelievable.”
“Thank you!” Gojo chirped, standing up. “So, is this whole thing their idea?”
Nanami didn’t answer, simply picking up his book again.
Gojo wagged a finger at him. “You know something, don’t you? But fine. I’ll play along.”
As he walked away, Nanami muttered under his breath, “They deserve a medal for dealing with him.”
-——————-
The rooftop was quiet except for the faint hum of the city below. Gojo stood by the edge, gazing out at the skyline. It wasn’t the most impressive view in Tokyo, but it was meaningful. He remembered this spot vividly: the night you both had huddled under a single blanket, sipping canned coffee as the stars struggled to shine through the city lights only a few days after his fight with Sukuna. He smiled at the passing birds and the sound of the bustling city below.
“Hey, are you just going to stand there looking like a complete dumbass?” a voice called out.
Gojo turned to see Utahime leaning against the rooftop door frame, arms crossed.
“Utahime! Long time no see. Are you here to confess your love for me too?” Gojo joked as he took a step away from the edge.
She rolled her eyes, walking over to him. “No. I’m here because I was asked to hand you this.” She held out another envelope.
Gojo took it, but not before giving her a cheeky grin. “So, you do care about me. I knew it.”
“Just open the damn envelope,” she snapped.
The note inside read:
*"Where stars met our gaze and silence spoke, love stood firm, unbroke. Now make your way to the place that holds the memories old and untold."*
Utahime smirked at the way his expression softened. “It’s cute, honestly. How whipped you are.”
“Excuse me,” Gojo said, straightening up, “I am not whipped. I am simply... deeply adored. By many.”
“You look like a lovesick puppy reading that note. Whipped.”
“I don't have it in me to be whipped. I’m a little too masculine for that.”
“Whatever you say, you lovestruck idiot.” She shook her head, waving him off. “Try not to trip over yourself getting to your next destination.”
Gojo pinched her cheek before heading out, his heart racing now.
---
Gojo unlocked the door to your shared apartment, and his jaw dropped.
The living room was transformed. Balloons hung from the ceiling in shades of blue and white, streamers looped along the walls, and a table was set with delicate china, tiered trays of sandwiches, macarons, and cakes. In the center of it all stood you, holding a teapot, your face glowing with excitement as his friends and former students stood around singing happy birthday.
“Happy Birthday, my sweet Satoru,” you said warmly.
For a moment, he didn’t move. He took it all in—the decorations, the scavenger hunt, the care and thought behind every detail. Then, with a burst of energy, he swept you into his arms, spinning you around.
“You’re incredible!” he said, his voice uncharacteristically soft. “All this for me?”
You laughed, holding onto his shoulders. “Of course. I wanted to surprise you with something fun. Those places weren’t random, you know.”
“I know.” He set you down, brushing a strand of hair from your face before he held your face gently. “Those were the places I told you had moments I fell for you all over again. Every single time.”
Your smile widened. “I hoped you’d remember.”
He leaned in, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “How could I forget anything about you?”
-—————
The tea party was everything Gojo didn’t know he needed. Nanami sat stiffly in one corner, grudgingly eating cake telling Yaga of the koi pond. Utahime sipped tea with Shoko, who had brought a bottle of sake "just in case." Even Megumi had been coerced into attending, sitting quietly as Gojo tried to shove a macaron into his mouth.
Throughout it all, Gojo’s eyes kept drifting back to you. You, who had orchestrated this entire day. You, who had filled his life with meaning he hadn’t known he needed.
As the guests left and the apartment quieted, he pulled you into his arms once more.
“Thank you,” he whispered, his voice low and sincere.
“For what?”
“For loving me,” he said simply. “And for reminding me why I love the life I have with you.”
You smiled, resting your head on his chest. “Happy Birthday, Satoru.”
For once, Gojo didn’t have a witty comeback. He just held you, feeling like the luckiest man in the world. “Happy Birthday to me.”
Oh yeah I didn't forget to post tfcon stuff nahhh nahhh
Combined haul with @vampdcon and @kaijukyru . Couldn't fit everything in this photo, so this is probably 90% of it. We had a very successful hunt this year, much of our time being spent on artist alley (as usual). There was an amazing selection of artists this year and we loved meeting all of them!
Brought along blokees Scavenger for moral support (he's my special little guy).
Spent a good chunk of the custom class NOT focusing on the featured character, instead wasting my time assembling Sentinel in a mason jar like some ship in a bottle. I wasted a bunch of time on this and broke a jar but he came together after +3 hours of messing with it. He was a hit among attendees and might become my new good luck charm tfcon tradition.
It was amazing to see how popular Blokees were this con. A lot of older individuals stopped by, intrigued about the concept but we're turned off on the non-transforming aspect of it. But by the end of the con, it was hard to not see someone with a blokees figure. I love the detail and articulation on these things but I'm still turned off by the blind box feature of it.
I sold off the rest of my walkies, it was a shame to see them go but I'll definitely make another batch for the next con! I'm hoping to have more Earthspark inspired bee merchandise in the future. The show keeps feeding me new Alex Malto fan items.
Vamp and I got to meet the legendary Frank Welker on Sunday. This man was an absolute angel and humored us. I got my Soundwave helmet signed while Vamp got her tfp piece signed.
We unfortunately had to leave Sunday evening. My dumbass left the passenger side window open all weekend (thanks for not going thru my car, guys). Sentinel was properly secured in the front seat while my passengers took the back. It's a miracle he survived the entire weekend in the jar (shaken quite a few times by angry patrons).
This convention was the best I've attended so far. It was great to meet meet people from previous cons but also brand new fans/attendees! Tfcon LA and Toronto are not in the cards for us but we are 1,000% attending Chicago. I'm so excited to go back to my home state, I've wanted to attend a Chicago con for years now! I cannot wait to see everyone again in the windy city~
Question about the three split bill au (the one where bill splits himself up from baby boy, troubled teen and ghost of himself)
Any thoughts about what ghost of himself bill looks like? Since we actually haven’t seen much art of him besides the first diagram when bill splits into his three components of himself. Is that bill more akin to how bill was during the aftermath of the Euclidean massacre, or completely reserved and hiding away somewhere, cause I’m assuming ghost bill is hiding in gravity falls’s forest, and thus doesn’t have the memories of having the psychological cushioning of having the dead/barely alive relatives of the sub-species of Euclidean’s he kidnapped from other realms of his home dimension around him to remind himself he’s not alone, and that he DIDN’T destroy his entire dimension. So I imagine he’s between on the brink of a mental breakdown and completely numb to the world around him.
Sorry, I’m just really intrigued about this au
(I'm gonna link this post and this post for easy reference since I don't have a tag for this idea yet lmfao)
I wouldn't call it an au with THREE bills, because there's not three of them total. Hence the "and so on" in the picture where I listed them. I just only listed the first three, because 1) that's where we stop getting detailed info on Bill's history and we don't know much about what specific traumas he encountered during the trillion years between the massacre and now, and 2) all the Bills after that point pretty much look like current Bill so there was no point in drawing them lmfao.
I also wouldn't call that specific one "ghost Bill," I'd just call him "post-Euclidean massacre Bill." Yes, he's an energy being by that point, but if you call him a "ghost" you're gonna think of him like... y'know... a ghost. He's no more ghostly post-massacre than he is every time we see him in the show.
One of two things happens when all the extra Bills get snuck out of Theraprism:
they all get tossed out through the same exit and land in the same place, meaning they just keep showing up one at a time at the Mystery Shack; or
they each get dumped in a different place depending on what's the most convenient way to sneak them out at the moment, meaning they're all over the multiverse and trying to find each other/the Pines are going on a scavenger hunt trying to locate them all.
I don't know which it is because I don't have a story, I have an idea, so any actual plot points are up in the air and subject to change based on vibes.
So, either post-massacre Bill's traumatized ass immediately ends up on the shack's front step just like the others; or, he's lost wandering in space somewhere, and they've got to hunt him down to drag his traumatized ass to the shack.
Psychologically, he comes into existence in the same mental state he was in 5 minutes after the massacre: mostly numb with intermittent bursts of grief-fueled murderous rage. His memories actually extend to a few months or maybe even years after the massacre, because he didn't mentally change much in that time. But even though he has those memories, he FEELS like the massacre happened Right Now.
The headcanon that Bill kidnapped a bunch of alien shapes after the massacre is irrelevant to this AU; that headcanon belongs to a different story. Maybe it did happen off-screen in this one, it doesn't matter, we're not going there. In this story, he destroyed his universe and got his speck, that's what matters.
He looks the way I drew him: almost like current-day canon Bill but a little smaller/rounder, blue bow, no hat. Hopefully he washes the blood off.
#(technically all their asses are traumatized. but post massacre he's the most VISIBLY traumatized. poor shellshocked sonova.)#rainbow beanie#ask#about my writing
So I was going through your blog (again) and found some of your stuff mentions fsau Raz having ADHD, as somebody with adhd I’m intrigued, may I have some of those headcanons (canons??) related to that? Also, I would give “a penny for your thoughts” but I’m out of pennies, so here’s various images of a drawing of ur blorbo I put next to my animals, note that a rock had to be added in one picture to keep him from flying away (BONUS: his now permanent place with the wifi guardian frog)
NOTHING brings me more joy than seeing physical drawings of these guys, like, out and about. in situations. thank you for this gift, and ALSO for the great ask because it's a perfect chance to ramble
so first of all, canon Raz having ADHD is very real to me. he's constantly fidgeting and moving around, getting distracted by sidequests and scavenger hunt objectives, always talking to himself out loud, gotta write everything down so he remembers it because there's so much to DO!, running away from home because his dad yelled at him one time and now Raz assumes he must hate him forever... i could go on, but i think there's a lot of room for interpretation there!
in my headcanon, he never got diagnosed as a kid. maybe there were some notes about it in his reports each year, sure - but a little hyperactivity and distractability never seemed to slow him down. he excelled in lessons and on missions, and when he was with his family their performances gave him something to focus that energy into. it was only really when he turned 18 and graduated to a full agent that the cracks started to show.
because there's a big difference between the responsibilities you have as a minor, and the responsibilities you have as an 18-year-old living away from home! one who's expected to cook and clean for themselves, and take care of adult life stuff, and also work the 9-to-5 office job he's just graduated into that involves sitting in front of a computer and write reports all day.
short-term, he found he could get himself to power through a deadline with energy drinks and psi-pops (a lot of psi-pops...)
long-term, something had to give. he was working himself to exhaustion, constantly stressed, swinging between days spent staring at his computer screen doing nothing and all-nighters desperately trying to finish his paperwork before the deadline. it just didn't make any sense to him. he'd finally started his job as a Psychonaut, he was living independently like he'd always dreamed, he'd gotten top surgery after planning it for so long. he should have everything he ever wanted. why wasn't he happy?
following a deep post-surgical depression, about a month before his 19th birthday Raz was living out of his car, couch-surfing or sleeping in his office. he got kicked out of his apartment after falling behind on bills and rent. it wasn't that he didn't have the money, it was all just too much for him to stay on top of.
he'd probably have stayed in that misery hole for a lot longer if Frazie hadn't marched into his life and demanded he let her help him move into a new place, or she was telling mom that he was homeless. together, they sorted through all of his possessions from the last place - everything that had been hastily shoved in his car, or tossed in a box in his office, piled in a heap that was giving him anxiety even looking at it.
things do get better for him from there.
when he eventually explains things to Hollis, she gently suggests that he should get a roommate. he ends up moving in with Phoebe, and they become pretty good friends after a couple months! something about having another person around to help do the chores and wash the dishes and share the space helps, even if it takes him a while to admit it.
he gets his ADHD diagnosis, and finding the exact right medication and dose is a journey he's still on years later - but they're a huge help in getting him to actually knuckle down and finish his work on time. and the whole thing ends up being a chance for him to take a step back and really think about what he wants to do with his life. he'd always assumed that being a Psychonaut was his dream, but he'd never really reckoned with what that dream would look like before.
in the end, he sticks with it, but also decides to follow Lili's example in branching out. he applies to study a part-time Bachelor's in Psychology on a remote course, and gets accepted. juggling missions and paperwork and study and relationships (because the whole thing made him realise he also wasn't setting aside any time for himself, and wow, dating is a thing) is a lot - but he manages to figure it out, day by day.
(Lili comes back to the Psychonauts after graduating. she and Raz have both changed a lot over those four years, but on their first mission together they hit it off like a house on fire - and the rest is history!)
Possession
JOLENE MERCAR, also known as Rook, was stalemated outside the door of a certain generous and compassionate necromancer. It was late at night. Though time seemed to pass strangely here in the Fade, whenever she was inside the Lighthouse, she could always sort of tell what part of the day it was. Like an enchantment, or an illusion. She knocked on the door.
Emmrich answered. He was very tall, and when he saw her in all of her tiny elven glory, he smiled. He was genuinely surprised to see her, but seemingly very pleased. "Rook," he said. "What a nice surprise."
"Hello, Emmrich," she said, feeling a little stupid. She had her hands behind her back, rocking back on her heels as she spoke. "I was just...popping by. I discovered something, here in the Lighthouse, a hidden room. It belonged to Solas. It's filled with a bunch of notebooks. Diaries and things. Records, lots of them dated back to when he was in the Inquisition. I was going to go through them on my own, see if we could learn anything, but I suddenly felt the urge for company. I thought you might find it all interesting, as an expert on the Fade. You know, like he is."
Emmrich considered. Rook had long, dark hair, which she sometimes wore in a loose braid over her shoulder, but that night, it just fell to the small of her back, like a curtain. Her eyes were light as candles, and he liked her. Something about her forward nature truly intrigued him, and though he did not entirely understand what she might see in him, she came by often, looking for wisdom. She was young, and he could tell that she felt...out of place in all this. In any case, she had never come to him so late at night before. This was new. The promise of what lie ahead, it was very tempting, despite his prevailing sense of discipline and stoicism. He said to her, "I believe I would find that interesting. Thank you, Rook, for thinking of me. Please, come in. Just let me grab some things, and let's be on our way."
As she stood there, demurely, taking stock of Emmrich's vast and detailed inventory, the books and the skulls and the bizarre crystals, she felt excited, happy for the first time since all this began. It was a pretty picture, this place, so strange and haunted, and yet the whimsy, it was like wrapping herself in a warm scarf. Rook was not a mage, and she had not grown up with such displays of magical possibility. Magic was utilitarian where she was from, or else it was devious. But Emmrich, in all of his sparkling oddity, could make even the littlest, most mundane things feel new and awake. Rook often tried to remind herself that, no matter how bad things get, it's the little things in life that truly set you free.
In the music room, Emmrich was delighted by the presence of a piano in the Lighthouse. He honed through a couple of chords, but it sounded like the gloomier depths of the Necropolis. "It's woefully out of tune," he said. "I can come back in the morning, perhaps, make it sing once more."
"You play the piano?" said Rook, feeling wistful. She had picked the lid up off a wooden box, which she had stacked earlier near the high window. Light seemed to flood in, even though it was after ten.
"My skills are a bit lapsed," said Emmrich. "But I trained for many years in my youth. Music is a language all its own. I've found that certain spirits communicate more readily through the wonders of melody."
"Perhaps that's why Solas plays?"
He smiled. "Perhaps."
Rook sat down on a dusty old hope chest. It seemed made of both wood and gold at the same time, and this weirdness with textiles was something that Solas seemed drawn to. Metals that looked like wood, woods that looked like metal. She watched the little particles floating around in the bars of light from the window as she gathered a stack of leather bound notebooks. There were many books and records and things that looked sort of official, like things you might need at some sort of tribunal, but these ones were filled, front to back with what seemed like poetry, math, journal entries, all in Solas's handwriting. It was elegant but rushed. "Some of these notebooks are just filled with what look like complicated arithmetic."
"May I?" said Emmrich. He pulled up the bench from the piano, sat beside Rook at the window. Rook handed him a notebook. He studied the markings, which were strange, but some oddly familiar. "As the maker of the Veil, it would make sense for Solas to be adept at theoretical and applied physics. Some of these formulas are familiar to me and my studies. Others are...well. They are like nothing I've ever seen before."
"He doodles a lot. See?" She showed him the pages of another notebook. This one was more of a sketchbook, she gathered. There were a great many drawings. Mostly faces and animals, sketched out in pencil, loose with an absentminded touch. "This one is cute. Look. A nug."
"That is very amusing."
"If we don't find anything good here, we can always go back to the office," she said. "It's through the door, but it's sort of gloomy. I just brought some of the boxes out here so that we could sit in the light."
"Yes, the light," said Emmrich, studying the windows. "I wonder if the enchantment lives inside, outside, or in the glass itself?"
"In any case, it's pretty," said Rook.
"I agree."
She showed him another sketch, this one more detailed than the others. "Look at this one. Do you recognize this place?"
It was a castle, or a fortress, misty, and planted deep in a glorious mountain scape. Emmrich studied it closely. He did recognize it, but he was having a difficult time placing it in his memory. "It says right here, Terasylan'Telas. Do you speak elven, Rook?"
"Nope," she said. "My knowledge ends at Andaran Atishan. Mostly."
"Hmm. You know, now that I think of it, I believe this might be Skyhold," he said.
"Skyhold?"
"The legendary fortress of the Inquisition. It's located somewhere in the Frostback Mountain range, which forms the natural border between the southern Kingdoms of Ferelden and Orlais."
"Ferelden and Orlais," said Rook. "Geez. That's far. Have you ever been?"
"Never," he said. "Until I met you, I never once left Nevarra. Now, here I am, living in an ancient elven sanctuary in the Fade. Such intrigue you bring to my life, Rook."
She blushed a little, or perhaps it was just a trick of the light. "He seems attached to this place," said Rook, turning the pages of the notebook, slowly. There were several more sketches of the castle, from multiple angles, the insides and outsides. "He seems to know it well."
"Who is this?" said Emmrich. He pointed to a figure, sketched out in the doorway to what appeared to be some sort of rotunda. The form was female, somewhat tall, created with great care, but it was unfinished.
"Who knows," said Rook. "A mystery woman? After this, it's just tons and tons of butterfly sketches. All kinds of them. Guess he's a fan of bugs."
"Let's delegate a little," he said. "Hand me one of those notebooks, if you please."
She obliged. He straightened up and opened the notebook in his lap. "You continue with the sketchbook, and I will investigate this here."
"What is that one?"
"It looks to be some sort of diary," said Emmrich. "Entries, with dates from twelve years back. I'll let you know if I find anything of interest."
"Same here."
They sat for a while, reading. At some point, Rook got antsy and scooched off the hope chest to sit on the floor. She flipped through the pages of the sketchbook, taken with the minute and lovely details of Solas's drawings. After the butterflies, the pages began to fill with the shapes of people, actual people with detailed, unique faces and expressions, which led Rook to believe that they were real. His friends, perhaps? There was a study of a young man with an enormous hat, a tall elven woman with short hair eating a cookie, a human shield maiden reading a book beneath a tree, and a great, Qunari warrior playing chess. At some point, she came across somebody familiar, but the hair had changed. She recognized him from Minrathous. It was Dorian Pavus, holding a skull near a candle. This awakened something strange inside her, like an eclipse. Late in the book, there was a sketch of Varric, situated from the side. He was holding a flagon, sitting in a tavern somewhere, and he looked pensive. Rook almost said something to Emmrich about it, but she kept it inside. She wasn't sure why. It just felt like opening a can of big, fat worms, which she wasn't ready to open yet.
But then. "Very interesting," said Emmrich. "Very interesting indeed."
"Did you find something?"
"I'm not entirely sure," said Emmrich. "There's a fair bit of elven in here, which I do not understand. But not all of it. This, here, it is written mostly in the common language. It appears to be a prose poem? A ballad of some sort."
"What's it about?"
"Well, as it is a ballad, which means it is about love."
"A love poem? By the Dread Wolf?"
"Come here, Rook. Have a look at this."
She got up from the hardwood floor and went and sat down next to Emmrich on the piano bench. He was big beside her, and she was temporarily taken by his scent. Like rosemary, subtle. His clothing was simple tonight, she thought, unadorned. Just a cream collared shirt, seemed made of cotton, very soft, well-tailored, and expensive. He opened the notebook between them, so that she could follow along. "Listen," he said. He pointed to the page in question and read aloud, solemnly and with great care. As he spoke, with such a soft gravitas, the world around her seemed to change:
Light gathers on the sea, where we sit on the pier. It approaches and folds beside you like an envelope. I do not know how it folds, but it seems to anyway. It disregards me entirely. On this day in Val Royeaux, as we watch the seamen mooring their ships, you whisper, "What is that, vhenan?" You speak of a white bird, which has landed on a barrel. "Some sort of egret," I say. I can tell that you already knew that. You just like to ask questions, and you think it's funny. The word "egret," you say, sounds funny in my mouth. The light finds you here. It finds your eyes here. It disregards me entirely, The light. I could not have made it any more beautiful myself. It has a mind of its own as it touches you. And you find me, ara avise'ain.
The room was silent, but for the tense ticking of a clock somewhere.
"What a wonderful, if not monumental relic," said Emmrich, his heart stayed. "I am taken aback by this. I should like to read it again and again. What do you think, Rook?"
Rook shook herself out of a deep but ethereal trance then. It felt like something was wrong with her. She realized right then that she had leaned in a little close, the whole time he'd been reading. Her cheek, it brushed against the soft fabric at his shoulder. He did not seem bothered. He seemed very comfortable there beside her.
"I think..." she said, trailing off. "I think...it's just...so erotic."
This seemed to intrigue him greatly. "Erotic?" he said. "Quite the interpretation, Rook. You speak of his use of light, perhaps?"
"Yeah," she said. "How it's always folding and...touching the water, touching her. The mention, too, of the word egret, and how it sounds in his mouth. It just calls to mind their...intimacy. Something was going on here."
"Very good," said Emmrich. "I do agree. It seems that perhaps the Dread Wolf may have taken a secret lover during his time with Inquisition."
"Perhaps the woman that he drew? The one in the doorway of the rotunda?"
"Perhaps."
"Ara avise'ain," she said. "Are there any other uses of this word?"
"Hmm," said Emmrich. He flipped forward a few pages. There was a great deal of elven here. It was sort of like fishing for diamonds through a deft and elegant swamp. But he caught on something, quickly, then studied. He gave her the notebook. "Here. Read this, Rook."
She stared at the poem. She tried to concentrate, but then, she felt him nudge her gently in the shoulder with his own.
She sort of jumped. "What's wrong?"
"Read it aloud, if you please," he said, softly. "I'd like to hear it in your voice. It is so much more meaningful that way."
"Oh," she said. "Sure. Here goes." She cleared her throat.
I knocked, wondering if you had forgotten. You had not. You were braiding your hair. You said, "I was worried." Vhenan, who worries. Sometimes I feel like a star, which has already died. You say to me, "Sleep here." You invite me inside. Where it is safe. A nest. Maybe here? You bring me in with both hands. I take off your dress. Why can't I go home, avise'ain? Where the candles flicker to death, withholding, and there are only teeth.
"Shit," said Rook.
"I echo the sentiment," said Emmrich.
"This is really...wow. I wasn't expecting this," she said. "Only teeth? Fuck."
"I am concerned about the metaphor," said Emmrich. "It does not bode well for the Dread Wolf."
"I wish I knew what that word meant," she said. " Avise'ain. I know what vhenan means. It's like, an elven term of endearment. It means my heart. Or something."
"I wonder if, perhaps, Bellara, or Davrin could help us with the elven."
"That's a good idea," she said. "But Bellara's asleep. She was up late last night, tweaking the eluvian. Told me she wanted to turn in early."
"Then Davrin it is," said Emmrich. They set off.
When they found Davrin, he was lying flat on his back, on the hardwood floor, staring up at the ceiling while Assan, confused, licked his palm.
"Davrin?"
"Hello, Rook."
"What the hell are you doing on the floor?"
He turned his head to see them. They stood just inside the entryway. There were stacks of old books on the table, the wooden carvings lined up. Davrin kept a very nice space. He was neat and discerning, but he was not a minimalist.
"Emmrich?" he said. It was like a light turning on. "Wait. Is everything okay?"
"Everything is just fine," reassured Emmrich. "But, we are wondering the same of you. Are you often taken with lying on the floor, Davrin?"
"Not at all," said Davrin. He got to his feet, slowly, like he was drunk. He wasn't drunk. He was just...exhausted? "Assan won't sleep. I thought, maybe if I lie here on the floor, he'd doze off next to me. But. No dice."
"Aw, poor Assan," said Rook, patting the sweet creature on his feathered head.
"Poor Assan?" said Davrin. "How about poor me?"
"Poor you," said Rook.
He smiled. Assan squawked. "What are you guys doing here? Isn't it kind of late?"
"A little," said Rook.
"We require your assistance with the elven language. How are you with translation, Davrin?"
"Pretty good," he said. "What's going on?"
"We found some of Solas's old records, in a secret room, next to the library," Emmrich continued. "They are from his time with the Inquisition. It's quite interesting. A good deal of it is written in elven, however, and neither Rook nor I speak the language."
"Solas is an ancient elf," said Davrin. "I never really learned that dialect. I know a little, but it's rare."
"Can you try?" said Rook.
Davrin sighed. He scratched at the back of his head and then plopped down into the armchair by the fire. "Have a seat," he said. "Let me see."
Emmrich handed Davrin the open notebook, the one with the poetry, and then he and Rook sat down on the floor, like children. Assan watched the whole interaction, rapt and wide awake as Davrin took to studying the elven.
"These poems here are written in the common tongue," said Emmrich. "But there is an elven word used multiple times. Avise'ain. It perplexes us."
"Can you tell us what it means?" said Rook.
"Holy shit," said Davrin, reading the poem about the pier, and the egret. He read it multiple times. Then he looked at Rook, his face screwed up like he'd seen a ghost. "Do you know who he wrote this for?"
"No, we don't," said Rook.
He made a low whistle. "This shit is deep."
"What does it mean?" said Rook, urging him back to the task at hand. " Avise'ain?"
"Right," said Davrin. "Well, this word isn't something I've seen before. But it's not ancient elven. It's contemporary. See this? The suffix, -ain , is a diminutive. It means little, or petite. Avise is a form of the word ise, which means fire. Avise means flame. Avise'ain means—"
"Little flame," said Rook. "Like, a pet name maybe?"
"That's exactly what it is," said Davrin. "And see this here? Here, he uses the possessive, ara, which means my. My little flame. Whoever this was, they were definitely...well, I think you know."
"I believe the correct term is intimate, Davrin. No need to be coy."
Davrin almost started laughing. "Touche. Does seem a little strange though, speculating about the sex life of an ancient elven god."
"Solas didn't present himself as a god to the Inquisition," said Rook. "He didn't even tell them he was an ancient elf. According to Varric, he just presented as an apostate. He said he was a fade mage, same as you, Emmrich."
"That inspires my curiosity, to be sure," he said.
Davrin flipped through the book some more, studying the handwriting. "All this other stuff is ancient," said Davrin. "Except for this one word, avise'ain, which is in common elven. Why?"
"Perhaps the woman to whom he assigned his pet name is not an ancient elf," said Emmrich. "If she doesn't speak the dialect, it would make little sense for him to use it."
"So she's a regular elf? Or...a new elf? Like me and Davrin?" said Rook.
"Yes, and it's also likely that she speaks the common dialect."
"So, she's Dalish," said Davrin.
"Are you sure you can't read any of this other stuff?" said Rook. "These poems and entries. You can't read the ancient elven? Even a little?"
Davrin squinted at the pages in deep concentration, which seemed to lure Assan closer to his side. He sidled up to Davrin's chair and placed his head in his lap. Davrin stroked the beast's neck absentmindedly, a darling display. "Hmm," he said.
"Hmm?" said Rook.
"I can't translate this word for word," he said. "That's for sure. I just don't know the vocabulary. But elven, it's more than just a language. It's like a feeling. If you're an elf, that is. Especially this old stuff. Shit, it's a little like music. Rook, even though you don't know how to speak it, I bet if you read this, and you focused really hard, like really hard, you would understand what I'm talking about."
"What exactly are you talking about?"
"You can sense the story," he said. "Solas, in his words, is telling a story. I can see it in my mind's eye, like...ancestral memory."
"I don't know how I feel about sharing ancestral memories with Solas," said Rook.
"Well, I think we do. Whether we like it or not." He handed her the book. "Here. Just take a look."
She looked at Davrin, a little apprehensive. She had never been very elfy. Sort of like self-preservation in Tevinter. In fact, in her quotidian life, before all this, it was typical for her to simply forget what she was half the time. When it struck her, and she remembered, it was always in these horrible moments of existential unease. On the street corners. On the docks. She had considered leaving Minrathous thousands of times before her twenty-fifth birthday, for thousands of reasons. But she never had anywhere to go. Until now, of course.
Suddenly she felt Emmrich's hand, big and soft on her shoulder. He squeezed once, then lowered his mouth, close to her ear. He said, "You can do it, Rook. I believe in you. Just give it a whirl."
She felt very hot all of a sudden, in her cheeks, and it zinged straight back to her eartips. But still, it was comforting. He was such a comforting presence, calming all her stupid bullshit with one single, casual touch. She said, "Okay. I'll try."
She picked up the book. The words made little sense. As Davrin had said, even for elven, it was out of whack, bizarrely tuned, as if invented on the spot. But then, after a moment, she felt a kind of warm, snowy sensation in the back of her brain. It was like fuzz, and then it spread, and it came into focus. Like a crystal. It spun there, at the center of her brain. She looked up at Emmrich, and she said, "I felt something."
"Wonderful," said Emmrich. "What did you feel?"
"This is a story," she said, tapping her finger to the words. "It's about rooftops, am I right?" She looked to Davrin.
"Yes," he said. "Rooftops, mountains. Her hair, like, it's everywhere, right? Did you get that?"
"I did. Maybe that means it's windy?"
"Good call. Also, there's a tear in the sky. He compares it to an eye, watching them. Like they're never alone. But he wants her. Bad. He wants to be free, to be with her."
"Emmrich," said Rook, serious now.
"Yes? I must say. This is quite entertaining, you two."
"You've read the Inquisition folklore. Are you sure you never saw any references to a romance?"
"I have only read the canonical texts," he said, "which, beyond names and basic formalities, in no way addresses any interpersonal aspect of the people involved. So, no."
"You should go talk to Harding," said Davrin. "She was in the Inquisition. She might know."
"Oh my gosh," said Rook. "You're right."
"You're also in luck," said Emmrich, voice low, his hands clasped in front of him, very debonair. He nodded toward Assan, who had fallen asleep, his head heavy in Davrin's lap, very still, eyes closed, breathing even. "It seems our discussion of ancient elven poetry lulled your young griffon here right to sleep."
Davrin surveyed the situation, dropped his head back and blinked up at the ceiling. "Guess I should get comfortable."
"We'll see you in the morning," said Rook, very eager. Emmrich had got to his feet first, extended a hand to her. She took it, stood tall, and dusted herself off. "Thank you for your help, Davrin. That was...interesting."
"Any time," he said.
As they crossed the great courtyard in the middle of the night, they both looked up to the deep, dark Fade sky at the same exact time. There was a shooting star, or, that's what it looked like. It was big and molten, like a long column of light which then simply disappeared from existence. This dazzled Rook, but it also unnerved her. She had never really been outside before when the Lighthouse went dark. She'd had no idea that there were stars here.
"This place shall never cease to amaze me," said Emmrich, in wonderment. "Stars and night. The chattering sounds of inexplicable nature. We are floating on a cloud, it seems, and yet, there are butterflies and opossums. I can sense them in the underbrush. Solas made this place comfortable many years ago. He wanted his people to feel at home here."
"When we first arrived," said Rook, "the place was falling apart. I think Solas was living here, before the ritual, but it feels like there are parts of the castle he never went to, like he lived in two, maybe three of the rooms tops. Everywhere else, he just left it sealed away. Like a tomb."
"The bachelor pad of a god is sad indeed," said Emmrich. "Particularly if he is on the wrong side of love. Let us continue our scavenger hunt, Rook. I am enjoying this evening immensely. Thank you for asking me to accompany you on your search tonight."
"You're welcome," she said, smiling like an idiot. He held out his arm to her then, an unexpected gesture, but she took it anyway. Even though she was not afraid of the dark, she was hesitant, walking through the Fade like this. She was not used to such big, cold, and cosmic magic.
Emmrich sensed this, as he so often did. "Do not fear this place, dear Rook," he said. "Allow it to become familiar, and it will embrace you, as a home."
They started toward Harding's. They could see the light from her lantern, a long, golden bar at the bottom of the door. "Is that what you do?" said Rook.
"Yes, it is," he said. "Like a scent on the breeze. I will not forget it for all my years."
When they got to Harding's door, it was like she had seen them coming. She stayed up late.
"Rook?" she said. "Is that you?"
"It is," she said. "It's me, and Emmrich. Are you decent?"
"Sure am," said Lace. She opened the door, seeming delighted. She was wearing red pajamas with her hair in a braid and holding a cup of tea. "What brings you two around so late at night?"
Emmrich smiled, his face going a little crinkly. "We won't take up much of your time, Lace. We just have a few questions for you, concerning your time in the Inquisition. May we come in?"
"Definitely," she said, holding the door wide open and standing back to give them room. As she shut the door behind them, Rook noticed the remnants of some sort of art project. There were what appeared to be curtains, draped over a table, and several spools of colorful thread. Harding seemed to be practicing her embroidery.
"I love the curtains," said Rook.
"Oh, thank you. I'm just trying to make this place feel a little more like home. You know?"
Emmrich glanced at Rook, very knowing.
"So," said Lace. "You guys wanna talk about the Inquisition? What did you wanna know?"
"We have been scouring some of Solas's old records," said Emmrich. "Rook found a secret room inside, near the library. It's full of old notebooks and things. Much of it dated back to Solas's time with the Inquisition."
"Interesting," said Harding. "Find anything good?"
"Yes," said Rook, a little anxious. "We found love poems."
"Love poems?" said Harding, sort of giggling. "Really? Wow. I mean, I knew Solas was an artist, but a writer, too? Wow."
"Wow, indeed," said Emmrich. "We came here tonight to ask whether you know anything about a woman that Solas might have been seeing at the time. Someone in the Inquisition, perhaps? She was likely a Dalish elf."
There was a long pause then, in which Lace stared at them both as if she thought they might be on drugs. "You're kidding me, right?"
"No, we aren't," said Rook. "The stuff he wrote. It was really...passionate. Do you know anything about it?"
"Uh, yeah. I do," said Lace.
"Really?" said Emmrich. "Who was it? The woman, we mean?"
"Inquisitor Lavellan."
It was like a boulder, falling off a cliff.
"The Inquisitor?" said Rook.
"Oh, my dear," said Emmrich. "This is a surprise."
Lace shrugged, like it was just any other factoid. "I'm surprised you guys don't know. I guess I just assumed that everybody did. It was all over the tabloids, at least down south. People can't get enough of that shit. Sene's love life has been under scrutiny for years. It really pisses her off, but I mean, what can you do? Idle minds, am I right?"
Rook opened the notebook, which she'd had tucked under her arm. She showed Lace the poems. She said, "He loved her. A lot. We're pretty sure that everything in here, at least in this notebook, is all about her. It's full of poems and stories. What happened between them?"
"Solas and Sene were crazy in love," said Lace, sipping her tea, reminiscing. "Like I said, it was no secret. They were great together. Inseparable. They used to have picnics on the battlements at Skyhold, talk for hours on the rooftops at Haven. He would braid her hair before they went out into the field. It was just...romantic. I used to talk to them all the time, when we would deploy to different regions, trying to bring people and their factions into the Inquisition. She would sit and watch him paint his frescoes, and he made her these butterflies out of his magic, like little presents. Hundreds of them, green and glowy, all the time. Everywhere. They would just fly around the rotunda, and the garden, like part of the decor. It was so dreamy and romantic."
"Green, glowy butterflies?" said Rook. "There's a bunch of them here, flitting about in the bushes. I've seen tons of them, flying around the Crossroads, too."
"Yup," said Lace. "Those are them. I'm not surprised that she's left her mark here. The way Solas looked at her, it was so...intense. I thought he was gonna ask her to marry him. It was really serious. And, like I said, everybody knew. They were just...Sene and Solas. Solas and Sene. The tabloids used to refer to Sene as the Tall Red Elf and Solas as the Tall Elven Warrior at her Side. Anyway, be careful, Rook. This is...kind of a long story, and Sene is a close friend of mine. She practically lived at my house for like a year once, down in the Hinterlands. I'll tell you stuff, but like, keep it clean. I'm not getting into the weeds here, okay?"
Rook fell silent. She did not really know much about Inquisitor Lavellan, or the Inquisition at all. It was not a common topic of discussion in Tevinter. And yet, even still, she was a bit of a celebrity, mainly with the Chantry, as the Herald of Andraste. They talked about her all the time in the holy newsletters and things like that. Debates over whether her claims to prophesy were legitimate, or whether she even believed them herself, seeing as she was an elf. Rook knew that she was Dalish, but she hadn't really put it together, until now.
"We promise to be civilized in our questioning," said Emmrich, taking over. "We will of course respect your loyalties to Inquisitor Lavellan. But please forgive me, as I must ask. You make it sound like he was over the moon for her, and yet, you said he left? Why?"
"At the time," she said, "Sene didn't know. None of us did. Nobody knew that he was the Dread Wolf. We just thought he was some really powerful apostate. After we killed Corypheus, he just...left. She was devastated, but at some point, she moved on. Or, she tried to. She was in another pretty serious relationship when Solas finally showed himself again two years later, during the Exalted Council in Halamshiral. He explained everything, that he was the Dread Wolf, that he wanted to bring down the Veil, that he still loved her, but that he had to go, and he would not take her with him. That was important. Anyway, based on what Sene told me, I think he originally intended to just use the Inquisition, like a pawn, to help him further his plans. But it didn't go so hot. He accidentally fell in love. He made friends, too. Kind of a huge, fantastic failure...I guess."
"So it was after the Exalted Council," said Rook. "That's when they last saw each other?
"In person, yeah," said Lace.
"What do you mean in person?" said Emmrich.
"Solas is a dreamer," said Lace, taken with the thought. "Rook knows. He can walk in peoples' dreams. As far as I know, he's visited her, quite a lot, over the past ten years. Where they stood at any given time, it was sort of on and off, but it was consistent, to some degree."
"Does he still love her?" said Emmrich, seeming desperately curious. Too tall, he was nearly hunched in half, trying to lean into their conversation.
"Probably," said Lace, her voice soft all of a sudden. She became wistful. She looked away, toward the window. "They were special. They meant everything to one another. It was the kind of love that you aspire to, you know? And I mean, she still loves him. That, I know for sure. Sene went through a couple different men, trying to move on. But despite both of them being great guys, neither of them stuck, not like he did."
"Which men?"
Lace sighed, setting down her mug on the table next to the curtains. "This is where I call it a night. I'm not getting into all that. You're gonna have to read about it in the tabloids like everyone else."
Emmrich seemed to be thinking about this in a practical manner. "We can probably find them in the Magisterial Library of Minrathous. I'm sure they keep records of every tabloid and newspaper in Thedas, going back at least 100 years."
"Or, you know," said Lace. "I guess you could just ask Inquisitor Lavellan, herself. I'm sure you'll meet her. Soon."
"I will?" said Rook.
Lace shrugged again. She was doing that a lot. Like it was all just old hat to her. "Sene is close to Morrigan," she said. "And she also has Lady Nightingale, the best Spymaster in all of Thedas. I guarantee that she knows all about this by now, everything that's happened. And she'll also know, too, that you're the one leading the charge here, Rook. She'll know that Solas is trapped in the Fade, and that you're the only one who can talk to him. So, of course, she's gonna wanna meet you. Probably soon. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if, when you go to meet Morrigan at the Cobbled Swan in a couple days, she'll be there, too. Then again, who knows? She's got her hands full. Given everything my ma said in her last letter, the south is...under siege. There's a bad fight there, and lots of Blight. All hands on deck." Harding looked down into her tea, pensive, and then she looked at the floor. "I'm okay," she said, to no one.
"Is your mother safe?" said Emmrich, placing his hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him, like she was terribly relieved that he asked.
"I think so," she said. "She went to Skyhold, with a lot of other people. I'm pretty sure that's where Sene is. Or, she goes back and forth a lot, with her Commander. Cullen. It's become like, a sanctuary. Like what this place used to be."
"Harding," said Rook. "I'm sorry. I didn't...I should have asked you about this earlier."
"It's okay, Rook," she said, smiling once more. "I get it. We have our hands full up here, too."
Emmrich straightened up then, and something about his massive height seemed to change the atmosphere. He seemed to know it, too. He clasped his hands behind his back and said, "Well, we should take our leave. Thank you, Lace. This has been most educational."
"Now that you know," she said to Rook, "what will you do? Are you gonna mention it, next time you see Solas?"
Rook thought about it. She could not picture it. Whenever she thought about him, about Solas, her mind twisted into a riddle, and she could no longer tell what was real. She had only ever seen him from far away, up on a huge pedestal, or in the Fade, where everything was grim, and he was removed from her grasp, as cold and hard as steel. He was a total stranger, and yet, she relied on him. In this moment, she felt hugely young, raw, spilled open, her guts all over the floor. She did not want to hurt the Dread Wolf. He was like a music box, rusted shut, and there was just something so strange about it. So pretty, this idea that he held inside of him this intense history. Love, sex, all the things that made him a man and not a god. "I don't know," she said to Harding. "I need to think on it."
"Well, goodnight," said Lace. "See you in the morning. Lucanis is making breakfast so, don't miss it."
Outside, Rook and Emmrich stood at the center of the midnight courtyard and stared up at the enormous idol of Fen'Harel. Oddly now, standing here in front of this enormous statue, her thoughts turned away from Solas and instead settled with the man by her side. It was so strange, she thought. From the very first day she met him, he disarmed her. He took her guard completely down, and he told her to light brassieres and they fought demons, and they were talking to spirits. She said hello to a little wisp, and it had made her heart beat strangely. He told her he had never been out of Nevarra, and he seemed starved for adventure, and yet, it had been him who'd swept her off her feet, took her on a grand field trip through the Necropolis, this well of magic, everywhere, all the time, living and breathing with a mind of its own. He had opened her eyes that day.
He was older, but she didn't much care. He did not treat her like a child. Sometimes, he did treat her like a student. But he did that to everyone, and in any case, it was never condescending. It's just who he was. The professor. He was not steel, nor was he even terribly guarded. He did not give in to her easily though, that was for sure. He moved slowly, deliberately, all those times she would go to talk to him, ask him questions about what he thought about all of this, about the Veil. He kept his distance until it really mattered, as if every choice he made would determine who they were, together, and in this, she knew that she could trust him.
"What do you think of all this, Rook?" he said then, smiling at her. "Have your opinions of Solas changed in any way?"
"A little," she said. "I need to sleep on it. I just...I realize that I don't know him at all. He barely even seems like a person sometimes, let alone a man who could...well, you know."
Emmrich held out his hand then, and from his palm, he snapped a little wisp, white and pure. It buzzed around her nose and landed in her hair like a bug, and she laughed. "Do you like it?" he said, very debonair.
"Yes," she said.
"You know, Inquisitor Lavellan is not a mage either," he said, growing pensive, his brow furrowed. "She was at the Conclave, sent as a representative for her clan, which, as I recall, is fairly important in the Free Marches. They own a great deal of land there. Even still, she was one lowly elf among an entire Chantry. She was certainly judged, and certainly alone. There are records, which state that, after the explosion at the temple, which resulted in the death of Divine Justinia, the Seekers of Truth wanted to arrest her for apostasy, for treason, for murder. You name it. She was ostracized far before she was ever beloved. And she was young when the Inquisition began, only twenty, if I recall from the literature, and the Chantry experts distrusted her immensely, even after she was named Inquisitor. Many were especially critical of her as the prophetic Herald of Andraste . But others believed, and among them, I imagine, Solas. He followed her. He loved her. Just like with this place, he desired to warm her heart, to make her feel comfortable, at home in an icy, mean, judgmental landscape. Perhaps because he understood what that meant? To be so ostracized, so fantastically alone. Part of that was the butterflies, I imagine, and that is why they linger still. That little wisp I just conjured up, you said you like it. Does it bring you warmth, Rook? Joy?"
Rook held it in her hand now, like a little poof of cool, calm energy. It seemed to vibrate with admiration, glowing up at her, like it was alive. "It does," she said. She set it free then, and it disappeared. "Thank you, Emmrich."
"Whatever the Dread Wolf is or isn't," he went on, "I think it is clear by now that he is, ultimately, just a man. He has desires, needs, and she fulfilled them, as he fulfilled hers. These were needs that had either not been fulfilled before, or not in some time. She thawed his heart, and he kept her safe, and they found a home in one another. Even if it was short-lived, it is more than most will possess in their lifetimes."
Rook felt impulsive then. She could hear the words that he was saying, and she knew that he was right, but she was lost in the feeling and the sound. She wanted to express herself. She wasn't shiny or particularly eloquent like he was. Definitely not a poet. She didn't have beautiful things to say or magical creatures she could conjure into the air. But she did have action. She had always been good at just...doing things. No fear. She slid her hand into his then. He looked down right away, at their fingers mingled together, like he was startled, and then he looked at her, laid bare.
She said, "Is it okay? I don't know what to say. I just...I want to show you how I feel."
He was very soft then, his eyes dark and filled with a hidden sadness, which tempted her. What was it? Where did it live? What did it see? He picked up her hand, and he closed his eyes and brought her knuckles to his lips. It disarmed her and made her weak, and she sort of shivered. Their eyes met. He said, quietly, "Language can be superfluous in times like these, dear Rook. But, please, know that I feel it, too."
So, she kissed him, in front of the Dread Wolf statue at midnight, in the Fade. She had to stand on her tallest tiptoes to do it. At first, just like with the handhold, he was taken aback, but he quickly molded to her, his other hand on her jaw, as he touched her ear with tenderness. It was not devouring. It was pure. Tallest mage, so full of compassion. He seemed to unlock for her that night, a click and release.
Rook did not have much to hide. She didn't understand people who did. But she could try. That night, Emmrich walked her back to her room, and they shared one more kiss before parting until morning. She sat down on the couch in the blue, aqueous light of her quarters, vibrating and giddy, and watched the fish do their little immortal dancing. She thought about Inquisitor Lavellan, twenty years old, a Dalish elf in the Chantry, and how lonely that must have felt for her. How scary, how out of place she was and the deep, impending desire to return to the home that she knew, somehow, she would never really see again. Not as it once was, as a child. But then, there was a man who came along and made it feel okay to just be alive, no matter how you did it, or how new you were to the world. A man who seemed to know everything, who could stand so tall, and yet, who nursed inside of him a heart so true that it could not be contained. And so they were consumed by possession, discovery, desire.
space camp boarding school (bs) au thoughts (chuckle boys)
a/n; I'll do more x reader base headcanons after a while but for now have my silly lil thoughts on the chuckle boys at space camp boarding school😌
tags; @riverwritez @titishq @asterjaxx @luv4luci @zuuriell (ask or dm to be added!!)
charlie is the one that gets every question right during presentations. everyone rolls their eyes at him when he answers (I think it's hot but whatever-)
ted is the best leader, so team exercises, missions-- that's his forte. he's also an amazing communicator so he definitely gets stuck in positions where he's always in back and forth communication with someone.
schlatt on the other hand would seemingly be the jock, and he sort of is. best volleyball player across the entire school. every section and level possible. its safe to say he wins every championship he can, and is definitely the team captain.
charlie enjoys academics the most, although he has a tendency to slack and rely on just *knowing* which annoys the hell out of his crew trainers most often. SO MANY MEETINGS WITH THEM !!! they're always on him about actually trying, and that slacking is setting a bad example. does he care? not really!
ted is a mix of a hands on learner and an academic fella. he loves any project that involves steps and physically working on it. goes absolutely feral when it comes time to do any sort of rocket launch. seriously is bouncing with joy!!
schlatt could care less about academic learning although he's always been the most interested in space history. it's just intriguing to him how much has gone into space exploration over the years. his favorite fact is the first rocket in recorded history was actually a weapon that was created with a bamboo shoot and gunpowder :3
all three of them love activity nights. what are activity nights you may ask? every saturday evening there's an optional activity that lasts for an hour for the whole school (space camp is on their own campus and the levels each have an hour back to back, theyre not gonna make the advanced acad kids suffer by doing scavenger hunts with the space acad kids) sometimes it's trivia night or a scavenger hunt or maybe it's something like cookie decorating!! it's always fun and space related and all three of them find it enjoyable in some capacity.
Octavia Maddenfield met Five Hargreeves during the second spring of the apocalypse.
The young girl had surprised herself with how long she had kept herself alive during the end of the world before she found him. During those first two years Octavia tried to tally the days but it was often difficult to keep track of the passing of time.
It was just before midday and Octavia had left the safety of her base to scavenge the city for anything resourceful, mostly food since that was of the utmost importance for her survival. She climbed the endless wreckage of concrete, metal and broken glass for what felt like hours. Octavia had explored most of the outskirts of the city but this was the deepest she had ever searched into it. She hoisted herself up onto a particularly large piece of concrete until her movement was suddenly paused by the foreign sound of something moving, something alive.
Octavia immediately froze at the reverberation of the sound throughout the otherwise lifeless landscape. She then quickly hid behind a particularly large piece of debrief, shielding her silhouette before turning her head to pinpoint the source of the noise. Her heart thudded painfully in the cavern of her chest, she could practically hear its pounding resonance deep within her eardrums. Octavia found herself polarised by the sudden prospect of seeing another person, another human being who was alive and made of flesh and bone. Her heart's incessant beating stopped abruptly when she identified the clear figure of a boy who had to be no older than herself. His back was turned and his face was hidden but she was able to extract some of his key features.
The boy had dark brown hair which looked somewhat overgrown and a slender physique, both were probably attributed to the apocalypse. Octavia felt slightly at ease by the knowledge that the first human she had seen in two whole years was most likely around her own age, however, she was also terrified. She stiffened when she saw the large hunting rifle he had strapped to his back as he continued to burrow through the wreckage like a hungry marsupial.
Octavia couldn't help but grow jealous at how fortunate this stranger must have been to have come across a gun in this desolate wasteland, as she was forced to make do with the few knives she could find that weren't completely rusted.
He was muttering to himself whilst digging through the debris, as if he was intently looking for something. Octavia peeked her head out a bit further out to try and hear what he was saying only for the attempt to be futile. She felt an overwhelming surge of curiosity and adrenaline coursing through her body, encouraging the girl to get closer and decipher what exactly this boy was doing. Careful to not disrupt him, she slowly started to crawl on all fours until she reached a fallen pillar. Octavia decided that this was close enough and inched her head out to get a clearer look. The boy in question was still oblivious to her presence, he continued to mumble to himself and she noticed his demeanour grew irritable. He swore under his breath before throwing a chunk of rubble into the distance, as if that was going to alleviate his frustration.
Octavia flinched at his sudden action and instinctively sought refuge behind the pillar. Unfortunately the sound of her quick movement had caught his attention. She froze and clasped a hand over her mouth to muffle the small surprised gasp that was about to leave her lips. It was too late, the boy knew that she was here or he was at least aware that somebody was watching him. Octavia was painfully aware of the large, lethal rifle strapped to his back as she heard him load and cock it, preparing to shoot.
She was stuck in a rather complicated situation, she couldn't run in case he decided to shoot her and if she tried to jump out and defend her honour he'd probably also shoot her. She was trapped with nowhere to go, so Octavia did what she told herself was a last and final resort. She used her powers on him.
She swiftly emerged from her hiding spot behind the pillar and met the eyes of the boy in front of her. Although he was still a good few strides away from her, Octavia could see the bewilderment in his eyes at her appearance. However, the barrel of the gun was still pointed in her direction and this made her panic. Octavia quickly outstretched her hands and focused all of her energy on manifesting her powers. She drew all of her focus into conjuring a forcefield big enough to encase the boy in front of her. Soon, the familiar lilac light of Octavia's ability had erupted around him, encasing him in a small but sturdy forcefield. She watched as he lowered the gun and darted his head to examine the newly formed forcefield, obviously taken aback by the abrupt manifestation of her power.
"Don't you dare move!" Octavia called out. She tried her hardest not to sound intimidating, after all she did have the upper hand in this situation. Although, the girl's voice slightly faltered, intimidation bleeding through her attempt at assertion. The boy took a step back in his new confinement, as if he was analysing the sphere around him. His eyes then darted from the forcefield to her.
"I wasn't going to attack you!" He snapped back, although the pitch and the youth present in his voice made it sound rather half hearted.
A complicated pang resonated in Octavia's chest at the realisation that this was the first person she had seen in two entire years. She wasn't exactly sure how to respond to the situation at hand, should she laugh? Cry? Or maybe just focus on making it out of here alive without a bullet between her eyes.
"You were pointing a gun at me!" Octavia retorted, gesturing to the rifle.
"You snuck up on me!" He bickered back and she quickly became aware of just how young they both sounded, like true teenagers quarrelling with each other.
"You have a gun!" She reiterated.
"You trapped me in a bubble!" The boy exclaimed before he demanded to be let go "get me out of this thing!"
"It's not a bubble!" Octavia countered, slightly offended at his belittling choice of words, "Besides, how do I know you're not going to hurt me?" she interrogated him further, eyeing the rifle in his hands.
"Okay, no gun. See? I'm not going to shoot you." He quickly shuffled the weapon to its original spot on his back and put his hands up as if he were surrendering.
"Not now you certainly aren't." She said, clearly referring to the forcefield around him. "Struggling is pointless by the way." Octavia tried her hardest to sound cocky.
The boy's eyes shot Octavia a withering glare, he saw straight through the facade of her confidence. "Yeah, obviously," he muttered back, trying to tug against the force field only to no avail.
He gives one more useless tug before he stops, scoffing. "Can you get this thing off of me?" The boy huffed, his irritation only growing.
Octavia had actually considered letting him out, a part of her youthful naivety believed that he was harmless enough but she was brought back to reality by the weapon that he carried and the fact that he was a total stranger.
"Only if you can promise me two things." She finally said, lowering her hands slightly but kept the forcefield maintained. She watched as the boy raised a brow at the bargain, clearly somewhat puzzled. He looks her up and down again, still eyeing her warily and Octavia suddenly felt extremely self conscious, like he was trying to dissect her with his eyes, which he was.
Five was still slightly disorientated by the purple light which surrounded him. A small part of him was impressed at the supernatural ability this girl obtained, the other part of him was pissed that he couldn't use his own to spatial jump out of her stupid bubble.
"And what exactly is that?" His voice was filled with dry amusement as she noticed him slowly but smugly cross his arms behind the lilac force field.
"Firstly, you'll tell me who you are..." Octavia started to speak as she looked him up and down again, examining to see if he had any other hidden weapons on him "and secondly, you have to promise not to kill me." Her cheeks slightly flush in annoyance as she sees him let out a chuckle at the girl's request, as if he found it humorous.
"Five," He announced matter of factly. "My name's Five," he glanced up at the force field again. "And I promise not to kill you," he responded with a bit of a scoff, in disbelief at the absurdity of his own words.
"Like the number?" Octavia raised her brow in surprise as she was genuinely taken aback by the absurdity of his name. The numerical nature of the boy's name was certainly not what she was expecting.
The boy, now renowned as Five exhaled a frustrated breath before pinching the skin between his brows. "Yes, like the number," he responds with a monotonous voice, like he's answered that question one too many times before.
"You only promised me two questions for my freedom, so let me out!" He said, growing increasingly more infuriated. Although Octavia had an abundance of questions regarding the peculiar name she subdued her curiosity into the back of her mind as she remembered their bargain.
"Right, sorry." She quickly muttered an apology and focused her energy on levitating the boy through the forcefield, hovering him just above the ground and moving him closer to where she stood. A perk of Octavia's unique ability was being able to control the contents inside her forcefields, including making them float. She watched in amusement as Five looked absolutely perplexed at his sudden levitation, his eyes flickered between his feet and back up at Octavia.
"What the hell—" he muttered, startled at the lack of ground underneath him. Octavia closed her eyes and focused her effort into deactivating the force field, slowly but surely the lilac light began to melt away. She watched as Five fell to the ground in a not so graceful manner, his sense of balance obviously disrupted by the sudden air trip.
"Crap! Sorry-" Octavia grimaced at the sound and started to move towards him to help him back to his feet but she held herself back. He's stunned, trying to re-ground himself for a moment before shooting an annoyed look up at her and she can't help but feel slightly guilty.
"Could've tried to make that a bit more graceful." Five huffed out, somewhat breathless from the abrupt descent to the ground.
Octavia watched as he stood up and dusted off his oversized black jacket. Five was now only a few feet away from her and this granted Octavia the opportunity to get a good look at his appearance. As much as Octavia was reluctant to admit it to herself, he was undoubtedly the most beautiful boy she had ever seen. Even when all things at the end of the world were considered, he was most certainly not that unfortunate looking. Five was definitely not in the cleanest state, neither was Octavia as their personal appearances were the last of their concerns when it came to their respective survival.
Octavia never considered boys her age to be cute or even somewhat appealing, her only understanding of what made a boy attractive were the boy band posters on the wall of her childhood bedroom. But something about Five was so endearing to her, from his slender cheekbones, to his green eyes or the way his messy, outgrown hair slightly covered his eyes. Maybe it was the fact that he was the first boy she had seen in two years or perhaps it was just the subconscious desperation from being alone for so long. As Five stood a few steps away from Octavia she was able to discern that he was hardly taller than herself, maybe a few inches give or take.
Five had never taken a particular interest in girls, especially before the events of the apocalypse. He respected them of course, he had two sisters after all, Allison and Vanya. Despite the fact that they could often get on his nerves, he admired his sisters, although not to the same degree as Luther who habitually made heart eyes at Allison across the dinner table. Five didn't understand the appeal of them as he watched Luther practically drool like a puppy over his adopted sister. Perhaps the boy's mind was too preoccupied with other more important things such as mastering his ability to time travel through his spatial jumps.
But when Five's eyes first laid themselves on Octavia up close he felt an unfamiliar sense of intrigue consume him. The boy was quick to disregard it as natural curiosity in response to seeing another human being after the considerable amount of time he spent alone.
Octavia didn't look like any girl Five had known before. She looked like what you'd expect from someone who had survived the apocalypse this long. Her skin and clothes were dirtied. A slightly beaten, oversized green cargo jacket covered most of her young yet malnourished physique. Her ashy blonde hair was pulled back into two braids that hung next to her neck and effectively kept it out of her face.
What surprised Five the most about her however, was the way her lips had suddenly curled into a laugh, a bubbly girlish laugh which was unlike anything Five had ever heard before.
"I really am sorry!" She spoke between a gentle laugh which made Five's ears flush under the aviator helmet he wore.
"I haven't exactly mastered the whole 'levitating your captors' trick yet." She continued.
"Yeah, I'd say you don't quite have it down yet," Five responds with a scoff, raising a brow as he looks at her hands which she was unknowingly flexing and contracting. This was a common mannerism of Octavia's which occurred after she manifested her powers, it was a way to release the built up energy that resided in her palms once she conjured a forcefield.
"How did you do that...?" Five asked, his voice more docile now. There was no residue of impertinence, his question was sincere.
"The 'bubble' thing?" Octavia replied playfully, recycling his little insult from earlier.
"Yeah." He said dryly.
"I've always been able to do it, ever since I can remember." She replied honestly.
"When's your birthday?" Five asked suddenly, the question puzzled Octavia immensely as she tried to determine the relevance of his question. Five however was stunned by the occurrence of finding someone else with a supernatural ability outside of his siblings. As the boy eyed her appearance he realised that she had to be no older that himself, unless she had coincidentally time travelled to the future, which he highly doubted, this girl must have been born years after October 1st, 1989. "Why? Do you want to know my star sign?" Octavia teased, she tried to find the humour in his abrupt and seemingly random question.
"Answer me damn it, when were you born?!" His voice was stern and Octavia was even more confused by his bizarre infatuation with her birthday.
"Jesus fine! It's June 20th 2007." She caved just to shut him up.
"Shit..." Five muttered to himself, almost in disbelief. There was no conceivable way that Octavia could have been one of the forty three supernatural children which Five himself was a part of. She was technically born eighteen years before him, so the chance of meeting someone who also had supernatural abilities was next to impossible, or so he believed.
"So you were... you were young when this all happened, huh?" He spoke up, trying to swiftly redirect the conversation.
"Yeah. I was twelve." Octavia confirmed and Five is painfully quiet, his eyes still examining her with an intense precision like that of a scientist, "What about you?" she asked softly.
"Thirteen." He admitted.
"Only a year older, huh?" Octavia concluded, and Five mentally winced at the complicated situation. Hypothetically yes, he was only one year older than the girl in front of him, however, he was also born almost two decades before her. This was such a mind fuck for Five.
"I guess you could say that." Five shrugged, trying to deflect the possibility of this conversation going any further.
"So you're fifteen?" Clearly his attempt didn't work.
"Correct. Which makes you fourteen now?" Five indulged her.
"Also correct." Octavia shot back and Five had to bite back a small smirk at her sharpness.
"You know, you interrogated me about my name so I think it's only fair that I ask yours." Five figured that he might as-well be polite and ask the name of the bubble conjuring girl who both mildly irritated and intrigued him.
"Octavia." She declared and Five felt his stomach tighten at each syllable that left her mouth. It was an uncommon name, Five certainly couldn't talk when it cam to abstract names but something about Octavia sounded so eloquent, almost old fashioned even. Although he didn't see much of the future as he jumped forward in time he assumed that it was defiantly not a common baby name for someone born in 2007.
"I would say it's a pleasure to meet you Octavia, but these aren't exactly the most pleasurable of circumstances." He said, the formality and authenticity of his voice made Octavia avert her gaze from his own, almost shyly.
"It certainly isn't..." She agreed.
There was a prominent silence between them until Octavia spoke up.
"Sorry for trapping you by the way. I should have known you weren't a fan of bubbles." Five was caught off guard by her genuine apology.
He then replayed the past few minutes in an attempt to put it into perspective, and in all fairness, he was the one with the hunting rifle strapped to him.
However, as Five thought to himself a mischievous idea weaved its way into his mind. He was ready to even the playing field between them.
"It's fine, those were just your flight or fight instincts. Like how mine would be something like this if you didn't trap me first..." Before Octavia could even respond to Five's cryptic response, he suddenly erupted into blue light before her.
He shifts in a split second. Instead of being several feet in front of her he was now only mere inches away. Five looked rather satisfied with himself, a cheshire grin dripping from his face as he watched Octavia's face morph from shock to that of confusion.
"Holy shit!" The girl jumped back in sudden surprise at his sudden manifestation. She stumbled backwards onto her rear, she hit the rubble covered ground and watched as Five let out a small but genuine laugh at her reaction. The boy had missed the dramatic reactions of surprise which he gained from people whenever he used his power. He took a small step closer as he stands over her, looking down with a dry smirk.
"Not feeling so intimidating now, are you?" Octavia watched in disbelief as he extended a hand out to help her up off of her ass. She takes it gratefully although she should have been mad at his little prank, she was fascinated by his own supernatural ability. Five lifted her back to her feet and was slightly stunned at the feeling of another humans skin gracing his own.
Although Five wore a battered pair of fingerless gloves he could feel Octavia's skin against his own, she was warm to his touch. He noticed the way her fingers clasped around his as he helped her to her feet. He admired the callouses which she had evidently earned from surviving this long by herself.
"So you're like me?" She asked and Five retracted his hand, the lingering feeling of her skin on his was plaguing him still despite the loss of contact.
"More or less." He said bluntly, not wishing to elaborate more.
"Wow, sorry." Octavia said shakily, still trying to process everything. "I'm just a little shocked, my whole life my parents told me that I wasn't like other kids and that nobody could know about my ability. But here you are..."
"Alive and breathing," Five said smugly.
"Wait. if you can teleport... Why didn't you just teleport out of my force field?" She asked, smirking slightly as she watched Five roll his eyes.
"You didn't think I tried that, smart ass? It seems you have complete control of the energy in your little bubble, including that of your captors, meaning I was rendered powerless." he retorted "and I don't teleport, that's such an amateur word for something so technical! I prefer to call it spatial jumps, it's the precise manipulation and calculation of spatiotemporal boundaries which I can manoeuvre to get from point A to B-"
"Wow. Nerd alert." Octavia can't help but scoff in amusement at his scientific explanation of his powers. She then proceeded to laugh even harder at the way his eyes squinted in irritation at her reaction.
"You little shit..." He replied at her display of immaturity.
"So, Five, how have you made it this far?" Octavia felt his anger brewing and quickly changed the topic of conversation and gestured to him, referring to his well equipped getup.
He crossed his arms over his chest and gave a small shrug, turning his gaze back to her.
"I just... did," He responds, unbothered with providing anything more.
"I just did." Octavia mocked his ambiguous response, changing the pitch of her voice to sound more serious and stoic, like Five. She felt his eyes glare daggers at hers in response to the childlike mimicry.
He stepped forward now, looking even more annoyed than before. Nobody had tested Five like this, not since his youth when his siblings were still around.
"Watch it." He warned in his typical dry tone which Octavia was starting to grow acquainted with the more he spoke.
As Five stepped forward Octavia quickly manifested her power again, a rectangular shield emerged just in front of the boy as he began to walk towards her.
"Or what?" She said as he walked straight into the shield. The scene before her had reminded Octavia of those embarrassing moments when you would accidentally walk straight into a glass sliding door.
"Oof-" Five grunted as he walked face-first into the force field, nearly toppling backward at the unexpected collision. He stumbled backwards several steps, rubbing the centre of his face where he just collided right into her shield. He looked back at Octavia, a somewhat annoyed but less menacing glare was painted in his green eyes.
"That wasn't funny." He mumbled through gritted teeth.
"Oh come on, that was pretty funny to me." Octavia deactivated the forcefield and she held her stomach as a deep genuine laugh left her lips. It was probably the hardest Octavia had ever laughed during her whole two years of being stuck in the apocalypse alone.
She didn't notice it then but Five's expression had softened for a fraction of a second as she laughed, the reverberation of her voice had filled the otherwise barren space.
And there it was again, that disgustingly unrecognisable feeling that consumed the deepest pits of Five's stomach.
Her laughter had stood out the most to Five, stunning him slightly although he would never admit it in that moment. Octavia's voice was bright and melodic, it didn't irritate him in the same way that Klaus's laughter had when he stole from Allisons wardrobe and proceeded to be chased by her through the mansion, taunting Allison with her favourite skirt. But now, the apocalypse for himself had been characterised by the sound of despair, from the burning debris to the deafening silence.
Octavia's laughter juxtaposed everything else desolate and decrepit which he had become accustomed to hearing after all this time. It was so full of life.
Five then understood why people often referred to others' laughs as being infectious. Octavia's laughter had ignited something, this unfamiliar warmth and queasiness started in his abdomen and soon expanded out into his bones and through to his skin. He felt it everywhere and he hated it. Was this just a symptom of the adrenaline? it had to be.
Five quickly broke away from his thoughts and returned to his traditional, irritated demeanor.
"Oh, you think this is funny?" He asked, taking another step towards her again. A small part of him knew he'd probably walk into another force field again, but he was a little too mad to care right now.
"Hey, give me a break. You're the first person I've seen in how long... like what... two years?" Octavia asked, her laughter subsiding and Five finally felt like he could somewhat relax.
"Have you been by yourself for two years?" Five was curious at her revelation, eager to know if she too had spent the last two years in solitude.
"Yeah. Since day one." Octavia explained. Five noticed a distant look which painted her eyes as if she was recalling the first day she had realised she was alone in this concrete hells-cape.
"And you've made it this far?" Five asked softly and he mentally cringed at how patronising he sounded, he didn't mean for his question to sound that why. The truth was Five was incredibly impressed that she had endured two whole years by herself, finding enough food, water, shelter and even fighting off sickness.
Surviving an apocalypse was no easy feat, Five knew that all too well.
"What? Do you not think that me and my bubbles could have lasted this long?" Five was silent for a moment. Of course he didn't think that, in actuality her power would be incredibly resourceful for the conditions the both of them found themselves in. Five struggled to articulate a defensive statement to her teasing but Octavia spoke up again before he could formulate anything worth saying.
"Do you have a group or something?" She asked and Five subconsciously thanked her for changing the topic.
"No. I'm alone." He admitted.
"Well, I guess that makes two of us." Octavia crossed her arms over her chest before she spoke again, "Your powers.. Are they the reason you survived the initial impact too?"
"Yes." Five looked down at the ground as he answered. He wasn't technically lying, he had survived the destructive impact of whatever ended the world because he had spatial jumped too far into the future. That could theoretically be interpreted as him using his powers to survive the mass extinction of all of humanity, right?
He just simply twisted the truth, that's all. Besides, there was no way Octavia would know if he was lying or not.
"You're a boy of few words, Cinco." She retorted and Five shot his gaze back up towards her.
"God- please don't call me that." Five groaned. The nickname not only irritated him but it was the very title his brother, Diego used to call him and hearing it fall from Octavia's lips was painfully nostalgic.
"Can you blame me?" Octavia shrugged and Five clicked his tongue.
"So... what were you doing out here?" She asked, gesturing to the mountain of concrete behind him.
"Looking for food, what else?" Five explained, his voice straightforward and apathetic.
"Fair enough, we all have to eat. Although I don't think you're gonna find much in that pile of concrete." Octavia wasn't judging the boy for his attempt at searching for resources, more so where he was looking. The landscape before them was nothing but grey desolate rubble.
"Well, I can't exactly afford to be picky, can I?" Five rationalised.
"Touché." She said in an approving tone.
Five didn't exactly know how he should continue the conversation as an elongated silence is exchanged between the two of them. Octavia tried to look anywhere but Five's piercing green gaze as the absence of noise consumed them. Although Octavia had been weary to the boy as a potential threat, she couldn't find it in herself to depart from him so quickly. As for Five, he couldn't extract or define the unknown inquisitiveness that overwhelmed his thoughts. He was standing before another living, breathing human and he couldn't quite believe it, these weren't the rotting bodies he had found buried under the remnants of the city.
Five did not want to depart from her presence so quickly, and he hated it.
"Hey.. I have some baked beans I found not too long ago, you're more than welcome to have some. If you want, that is?" Octavia offered and Five had to replay her voice in his head to ensure what he was hearing was correct.
"You're seriously willing to share your food with me during the apocalypse?" He pointed to himself, his head tilted in disbelief. Was this girl actually offering her own food to him despite trapping him in a bubble only mere moments ago?
"Look, do you want food or not?" Five panicked at her question, like she was threatening to take away the prospect of food so quickly.
"Yes." He said sharply, not caring how desperate he sounded in that second. However, Five felt his face begin to grow warm again when Octavia let out a small giggle at his eagerness.
He despised how easily she could get under his skin.
"Okay, just promise not to murder me on our walk back to mine?" She began to adjust the backpack she had resting on her shoulders and Five took that as the cue that they were leaving.
"If I wanted you to, you would be dead already." Five said proudly. Although his words were grim they carried a weight of truth to them, he probably could have killed Octavia instantly once she freed him from her bubble, but why would he want to do that? Not when he had been alone for so long already.
Even if Octavia was incredibly infuriating there was something about her wit and charm that Five found slightly familiar, somewhat comforting even.
"That's reassuring." She said sarcastically.
"I promise I won't try anything. Cross my heart" Five said, sounding so sincere that it was almost jarring to Octavia.
"Hope to die?" She asked warningly. Five raised a brow at her childish question that he believed to only exist on the school yard.
"You're hilarious. But yeah, cross my heart, I won't kill you. I promise." He shoved his hands in his pockets as they began to walk with Octavia leading the way.
"Watch out, I might just have to bubble you again if you try anything." Octavia held out her hands playfully mimicking how she would manifest her powers. Five rolled his eyes and subdued a small smirk that formed on his face.
"Hey, I always keep my word!" He was almost offended at her skepticism, however he didn't blame her, they were still strangers.
"I'm holding you to it, Five." She replied, looking back to face Five, throwing him a small smile.
Just started watching suits recently and was wondering if you had any good fic recs, particularly AUs. The nature of the show really lends itself to Selkie fics imo but also I just love selkies
anon i need you to know that as soon as i saw your ask i immediately went scouring through the AU tag on ao3. i’m not gonna lie, i'm not usually an AU reader but i wanted to challenge myself to provide some recs as unbiasedly as possible.
at first observation, i noticed a lot of the AU fics were still in some way canon (divergent and adjacent)-- usually splitting off somewhere along the show or a situation where Mike or Harvey is still a lawyer, while the other was not. i will say i skipped over smut-based (omegaverse, bdsm) and lengthy fics (under 20k is nothing, anything more than 50k is pushing it for me) cause i just did not have the brainpower to even try to get through them :/
so of course the ones i ended up liking were mostly canon divergent/adjacent but i tried my best to get you something different. what i managed to dig up for you is under the cut and i really hope you like them anon (also fyi these are all pretty much marvey fics, hope that's okay!) <3 also thanks so much for the ask! i enjoyed this little scavenger hunt haha!
As the World Caves In by SupernaturalIdjit16 | Mature - Zombie Apocalypse, Warning for the usual triggers that come with zombie apocalypse. It’s not a complete work but it literally got updated today!
Here at the end of all things by tattooedsiren | Explicit - Apocalypse, Hurt/Comfort, Mike and Harvey protecting each other, Mike does shoot someone and goes a bit into the psychological aftermath, light smut towards the end
The Haunting of Penthouse B by Skara_Brae | Teen+ - Supernatural Elements, Happy ending, Mike’s a ghost…or is he?
Meet Me at Midnight by butdaddyilovehim | Teen+ - Superheroes/Superpowers, Protective Harvey, he's also Batman…need i say more?
Complications by LearnedFoot | Teen+ - Canon divergence, Fake/pretend relationship, Harvey decides not to hire Mike, instead asks for his help to spite Jessica, of course they end up falling in love
The Touch by FrivolousSuits | Teen+ - Magic, Angst, Soulmate inspired, it’s also from Donna’s pov which was super fun and interesting, as was the nature of the magic
TBR list:
Wear My Name by Lunarflare14 (Teen+) and whatever the question by tattooedsiren (Explicit) - These are both Fake/Pretend relationship AUs based/inspired by The Proposal movie! (a very good movie imo)
The Game by FrivolousSuits | Teen+ - It’s a Hunger Games AU so i am intrigued, just haven't gotten around to reading it yet
Ocean Dream by Blue_Five | Mature - i apologize for being unable to provide you with a selkie fic so the best i could do was the incomplete merperson au... i hope it's enjoyable...😅
#if anyone wants more info/warnings for any particular fic I'm more than happy to provide#i really hope these were what you were looking for anon!#it's literally almost 3 am rn oops#also sorry they're all marvey didn't notice you only mentioned suits until i was already writing this out#but even if i hadnt searched for marvey ones i fear there wouldn't have been much to work with regardless#fr tho the AUs for suits are really not a lot or not actually AU-y? psst... hyena sona.
ive become soo so intrigued by the idea of animal hrt recently. i drew and wrote the process/results of what humanization removal therapy would look like on a hyena girl. shes drawn as a representation of myself (hence the glasses and hair) and is meant to show the later process of it.
information under the cut
in the beginning, she'd start growing her fur first. it wouldn't hurt too much, it would start to get really itchy. her fur grows in dark without any spots. as she transforms, her fur lightens as it thickens and grows in extra layers. her spots would come in last.
her ears start to change into a larger, more rounded shape. it eventually grows a layer of fur later in the process. at the same rate, her tail grows as well. her tailbone expands and grows above her rear, this is an excruciating process along with the growth of her ears. the tail later grows fur and develops a tassel at the end.
her face starts to change shape as well. her nose and mouth form into a snout and stretch from her face into a broader shape. her face shape is lean and grows tufts of fur to keep herself warm and maintain her body heat. she also starts a very painful teething process, similar to a cub. she has tendencies to gnaw on stuff until her teeth sharpen, growing way longer than regular human teeth.
later in the process, her knees bend further forward. they are disproportionately short compared to the rest of her body. her upper body starts to grow more hunched for a stronger neck and shoulders for dismembering her prey.
as she starts hrt, she has more natural instincts to scavenge and hunt. she grows a bit restless to move around way more and has a shorter attention span, as most hyenas do. she eats way more than she usually does as a human as her stomach grows larger. hyenas often eat whatever they can find to fit themselves, though as a hybrid she has an urge to eat whatever she sees in an instinctual way but also with access to food. this causes her to put on more weight.
she loves all food, even food she couldn't eat as a human such as bones. her nose is also extremely good at smelling, which she takes a bit to get situated with as it becomes more sensitive to scents. she doesn't like candles as much as she did as they're way too strong for her senses.
she grows a bit taller too as female hyenas are larger than males. spotted hyenas on average are extremely large as well. as female spotted hyenas carry a pseudopenis, hrt starts bottom growth on her with an enlarged clitoris.
Follow the Stars - a Bad Batch epilogue fic
Hiiii! So I wrote this fast even though I need to do a lot of coursework, so I hope you enjoy this fic I whipped up (as a May the 4th treat) about what I think happened when Omega told her brothers she wants to join the Rebellion, me adding some little tiny things to the scene with Hunter and Omega at the end (though that scene was already so perfect), and some other touches I think you guys will love. I also felt like the others would be more okay with letting her go than Hunter, so I just wrote this quickly based on how I see things lol. Also, forgive me, I have no fashion sense.
Feel free to share with others, and i hope you enjoy! Let me know your thoughts, I'll be happy to hear them!
@magicandmundane you're going to enjoy this :D
read under cut here if you just want to read on here than AO3 (I appreciate all comments left anywhere :)
The sun was warm on Pabu. Another wonderful day for a stroll or a boat ride out on the waters. The island barely changed over time, staying safely away from the Empire’s hands and its residents living in harmony as the days went on.
Omega stretched her arms out. She looked in the mirror, expecting her morning hair out of the shower to be the usual frizzy blond locks needing a heavy brush, but it was actually somewhat neater for once. Omega gave herself a confident smile, tying up her layers into a ponytail and reaching for her red bandana. Hunter had given his old bandana to her as a gift after they had escaped Mount Tantiss all those years ago, and Omega felt like trying out some new hairstyles.
The battle at Mount Tantiss was so many years ago, and Omega still remembered every bit of the struggles she went through. They had won the battle, and everyone was safe and free to put aside their lives as soldiers, filling those days with warm sunshine, ice cones, and family time. Eva, Jax, Sami, and Baryn had been safely returned to their families after Rex managed to locate them. Omega missed them every day, praying for their safety as young Force-sensitives.
The Batch had settled themselves into a small home in the middle of the island Shep had offered them to take after it had been vacant for so long. Wrecker had taken the responsibility of decorating, and Echo had many debates with him about positioning certain objects so the home was kept neat and tidy. Omega’s room was the only place Wrecker wanted to do completely by himself, just as he had done when they had the Marauder. Wrecker had put up some orange string lights similar to the ones he had put up before, and he was lucky to find them in stock at a nearby shop run by a local. There were also some light curtains and soft bedding that Wrecker had put his heart into finding and setting up delicately so that his little sister would be comfortable.
Omega had recently returned to Pabu a few days back after a small scavenging mission with Phee, retrieving a golden heirloom that was adorned with feathers and crystals from the depths of a cave Phee had described as “spiritual and archaic”. They had found the heirloom near a mystic waterfall that Phee said was rumored to grant wishes and protect those who come by if an individual sprinkled some of its water over themselves. Intrigued, Omega had done it herself, relishing the pure scent of the beautiful waterfall. The heirloom was safely delivered to a family whose ancestors had created the heirloom to bring peace and divinity to their village.
Omega adored all the adventures she would have with Phee whenever she came by and still listened closely to her stories like she was still fourteen and mesmerized by the way Phee would narrate all of those adventures she had before meeting Omega. Often, her brothers would tag along mostly because Omega wanted them to go with and she wanted Crosshair to have his first treasure-hunting adventure. Even Lyana got her chance to attend her aunt on one of those adventures once she got a bit older and Shep allowed Lyana to experience worlds outside of her home. Lately, the squad who always called themselves the Bad Batch preferred staying close to home and staying safe rather than risking themselves in places they barely knew things about.
The Empire was heard to be growing stronger each day, though there were many rebels out there who did everything they could to slow down their work and fight to bring their tyrannical reign down. Echo was one of those rebels, continuing to fight with Rex and the other clones who had survived the rescue from Tantiss, all willing to keep up the rebellion they had started. Omega heard a lot of stories about the Rebellion from Echo, and she would sometimes hear things from Phee whenever she witnessed rebel activity anywhere she went. Omega had left fighting and being a soldier behind after Tantiss to allow her life to have a childhood and live peacefully with her family, but something about the Rebellion’s cause and determination pulled her heart closer to the fight that called her name in her dreams.
“Omega, you ready yet? The ship’s landing soon!”
Omega heard Wrecker’s call, adjusting her jacket and taking a quick look at the red and black skull patch she had added onto her jacket; the symbol of her squad. Echo was coming to visit today, and he was bringing Emerie along. Phee had also said she was coming back to Pabu today after visiting an old friend, and it was perfect timing. Omega had planned a dinner with all of her family, and it was her chance to reveal what she had been wanting to tell her family for so long.
“Coming!” Omega hurried out of her room, smiling wide at her younger brothers who were waiting in the family room. Her brothers gave her a bright smile, their wrinkles starting to become more and more visible.
With their accelerated aging, Omega’s brothers were growing day by day, the gray streaks visible in Hunter’s hair and beard. His soft hair had grown a bit longer, which he had tied some into a small ponytail while leaving the rest down. Crosshair started to grow a beard that matched the gray hair he was already born with, allowing his hair to grow around his burn scar, and there were more wrinkles near his eyes. Echo had given Crosshair the robotic hand he had obtained during the battle at Tantiss, keeping his scomp link arm, which was still really beneficial. Wrecker had grown a full beard that was growing more gray to balance out the dark brown, and he had grown a liking to it. They all didn’t quite have much of a strong soldier’s figure anymore, but they were still able to show their strength.
The three of them were dressed in casual clothes native to Pabu, as Hunter wore a blue and red sweater with a brown bandana that Omega made for him with a blue cardigan and brown pants. Crosshair wore a dark gray knitted sweater with black pants, and Wrecker wore a red shirt with dark orange baggy pants. All comfortable out of the armor they had long placed in the treasure hall on Pabu to cherish the memories.
“Come on, let’s go meet Echo,” Hunter said. Omega nodded, following her brothers outside to head to the landing zone.
Pabu’s local market was cheery as always with everyone heading in to grab a savory snack or an ice cone as a treat at this time of day. Mox, Stak, and Deke were helping out the citizens who were out fishing, catching a few themselves and making deliveries to the shops. They had grown to the standard height and appearance of a regular clone, styling their hair the way they liked it and relaxing in their comfortable clothes. The young triplets never got to experience the life of a soldier like they had dreamed since their birth, but they enjoyed the childhood the boys were able to create for themselves on the island.
Batcher pranced around the market on her morning stroll, saying hello to many locals and getting pets and scratches underneath her woven collar. The lady she had befriended during her first time on the island had grown older and sat in a chair near a stall selling handmade bracelets, as Batcher enjoyed spending time with her. Batcher was growing older in hound years, yet her playful nature kept her lively.
She noticed Omega walking by with her brothers, barking and running up to her family. Omega smiled at Batcher, walking alongside Hunter to the landing zone. Batcher settled herself near Crosshair, displaying her soft smile at the man she helped heal and take care of ever since she had run off Wayland.
The family was just in time as a large cargo ship headed its way towards the landing zone, slowly setting the engines low and touching the ground. The ship opened up its entrance, revealing Echo and Emerie. Echo visibly looked like an elder, heavy wrinkles forming on his face and his stubble beard growing in, likely not having enough time to shave lately. He was dressed in some new armor the clones had helped him put together and painted in a design of red, white, black, and blue–representing both his family in the 501st and the Bad Batch.
Omega hadn’t seen Emerie in a long while, and she was glad her sister could carve out some time to visit. Emerie hadn’t aged much in physical looks, but she had cut her brown locks into a shoulder length hairstyle, letting it fly freely. She had gotten rid of those rose-tinted glasses she was given when she worked at Tantiss, comfortable in a maroon shirt with a blue jean jacket and dark teal pants, dark brown heeled boots adding a small inch to her tall height. Emerie had a small thin necklace that was made out of silver and adorned with orange crystals; a gift from Senator Chuchi.
She walked alongside Echo off the ship’s ramp, smiling wide at her sister. Omega ran over to the two, embracing them in a group hug. Batcher barked and ran over, excited to see Echo again. “I’m so happy you’re safe,” Omega said to them.
Echo chuckled. “I’m still in one piece. The Empire can’t dull my strength.”
Echo continued to fight against the Empire with Rex and the other clones as the Rebellion continued to grow in numbers, and had helped many clones settle down and find their place in the galaxy. The clones may have been growing older, but the fire they had as soldiers kept them willing to fight for the right cause. Some had remained on Pabu, their choice being to live a peaceful life away from the fight and the torture. They had settled themselves down in homes, and two had gotten themselves married to locals on Pabu they had connected with.
“You’re still growing old,” Crosshair piped up with a grin. Echo got a look at his brothers, and they definitely did not look like the same young energetic clones he had gotten to meet after being rescued from Skako Minor. They all smiled at their older brother. Wrecker came in for a big hug, causing Echo to nearly suffocate. Emerie chuckled.
“It’s good to see you again, sister,” Emerie said, giving Omega a personal hug. Omega gave her a soft smile.
“You changed your hair again. I like it,” Omega said. Emerie returned the smile and brushed a hand on Omega’s cheek. Her sister had grown so beautiful and so strong.
Luckily, Phee’s ship had just touched down as well. Phee stepped out of her ship, which remained painted in the colors Tech had painted his armor in when she had first met him years ago. Phee honored his sacrifice that way, remembering the man she grew so affectionate of. Tech loved sharing so much with her; Phee just wished there was more time for her to share more of herself with him.
Phee headed over to the family, Omega giving her a hug. Gray streaks ran through Phee’s dark brown curls, adding more color to the gold she already had intertwined in her hair. Phee may have been growing older, but her beauty never faded away.
“You’re getting bigger every time I come back. You’re as tall as me now,” Phee said.
“She’s still our little girl,” Hunter added. Omega gave him a smile. She wasn’t all that little now, but she knew Hunter would always see her that way.
Phee let out a laugh. “Of course she is. Now, what’s this about a special dinner you’re going to set up?”
Omega gasped. “You are all going to love it. Lyana’s helping me set up right now and cook. It’s a gift from me to all of you.”
“We’ll help too!” Wrecker exclaimed, Batcher adding in a happy bark. Omega nodded, the family heading over to the upper levels of Pabu to help prepare the food and set the table together.
Omega walked with Emerie and Phee, happy that she would be getting a chance to spend quality time with the people she loved one more time before leaving.
“Have you told them yet?” Phee whispered to Omega.
Omega sighed. “No. But I plan to soon. At dinner.” Emerie, Phee, and Lyana were the only people she had told about what she planned to do. They were supportive of her choice, and now Omega just hoped her brothers would be as well. Especially Hunter.
“I have a feeling this will not go well.” Emerie continued to walk with her hands behind her back, a habit she had developed growing up. She had listened to Omega tell her about her wish a while back during a comm call together. Emerie was worried about her and didn’t know if she was ready to join a fight that big, but Omega was free to make her own choices. Emerie made her own choice to join Senator Chuchi and the others to fight against the Empire and share all she learned to know during her time there, and if Omega wanted to do the same, she would honor it.
Omega had a feeling it wasn’t going to go well either. But she had to give it a try. She lived the rest of her childhood on Pabu. It was time for her to set off on her own adventure.
***
As Pabu’s sun began to grow golden in color, the dinner table had been set. Lyana helped Omega set down a few salad and rice bowls, setting a plate of bread rolls in the center. The dinner table was surrounded by many delicacies popular on Pabu, commonly the fish and seaweed rolls most people loved.
Everyone settled themselves down at the dinner table, ready to eat. Echo had changed out of his armor, sticking to a gold sweater with some blue pants. Shep and Lyana joined in, and Batcher napped next to Crosshair, her belly full after asking for food samples while everyone was cooking.
“First, a moment to present a blessing,” Shep began. He reached his hand out to his daughter and Phee, who sat next to him. Everyone held their hands together.
“We thank everyone for this wonderful food, and for Omega to help put together a beautiful dinner. May her life be filled with safety and happiness, and may we all prosper for the future to come.”
Everyone nodded, beginning to eat. Omega stuffed a fish and seaweed roll into her mouth, chewing to try and avoid talking. She wanted to express her feelings to her brothers, but now that the opportunity has arrived, she was too nervous to open her mouth. Emerie noticed her nervousness, shooting her sister a look of comfort. Phee and Lyana silently ate, waiting for Omega to make her move.
Omega swallowed, looking at Emerie. Her eyes told Emerie that she was nervous and felt like she couldn’t do this. Emerie gave her a smile, believing in her. Everything would be okay.
“Omega, you’ve been quiet.” Crosshair broke the silence, making Omega’s shoulder’s jump. Crosshair had noticed his sister was acting uneasy ever since they were helping to cook, and he had a strong feeling she was hiding something. “Is there something wrong?”
Omega swallowed, setting her fork down. She took a strong inhale in, slowly nodding a yes.
Hunter, sitting next to Omega, placed a hand on her shoulder softly. “What is it, Omega? We’ll listen. We can help you.”
I hope you can. Omega exhaled, deciding to stand up. “I have an announcement to make.”
She looked at her entire family, observing their soft faces, waiting for their sister to speak. Omega hoped everything would be okay and they would understand, just like Lyana told her.
“I have decided to leave Pabu and join the Rebellion. I want to help fight them and end the Empire’s tyranny. I’m leaving tomorrow.”
The table was silent. Omega waited for a response before saying anything else. Her heart was racing, and she felt like she would start to cry at any moment. Phee, Lyana, and Emerie looked around the table, observing the Batch’s faces.
Echo was the first one to ignite a smile, and then Wrecker. “Kid, that’s great! You’ll bring the Empire down!” Wrecker exclaimed, proud of his sister.
Omega smiled wide. “So you’re okay with it? I can go and fight? I’ve already got in with Senator Organa and the coordinates from him, he’ll be so happy to hear-”
“No.”
The sharp tone diverted everyone’s eyes to Hunter. Omega blinked. “What?”
Hunter looked up at his young sister with strict eyes. “You’re not going to go fight in the Rebellion. You need to stay here.”
Omega wanted to cry. She had a feeling Hunter wasn’t going to accept this easily. “Hunter, please. I’ve lived my life away from the fight ever since we won. The Empire is growing stronger, and the Rebellion needs more people for their cause. I need to help them-”
“And what if the Empire captures you again?” Hunter stood up this time, ready to debate. “The Empire could hurt you again and keep you hidden. Take your blood, torture you until you can’t breathe.” Hunter wanted to cry. He couldn’t imagine Omega getting hurt out there with him nowhere near her to help her heal. “There’s so many deaths out there in the Rebellion, what if you can’t escape?”
“I can handle that!” Omega felt like screaming. ““Hunter, I’ve fought the Empire so many times when I was young. You all know how I managed to survive Tantiss mostly on my own. I’ve been trained my whole life for something like this. You all taught me how to fight and how to be a soldier, and this is my chance to use those skills to help the galaxy be safe.”
Hunter was about to add another rebuttal, but Echo took his spotlight. “Hunter, she’s right. Omega can’t just keep sitting around on the beach and relax. She wants to do more, and her chances are out there.”
Hunter looked sternly at Echo. “Echo, don’t encourage this.” He blinked. “Did you get the Rebellion into her head? Is this why she’s bringing it up and wants to leave?”
“And what if I did?” Echo snapped, making Batcher wake up. “Omega has always had that rebellious heart inside of her, and you know how strong she is. Hell, she’s even taught me a few tricks. She can do this.”
“Echo-”
“Echo’s right, Hunter,” Crosshair piped in. “As much as I don’t want her to go either, she’s had a lot of training, and we’ve protected her since we won that battle. You all have more than me. This is her chance to make a change in the galaxy. You know you won’t be able to stop her.”
“Crosshair, you know what they did to you. What if they try anything on Omega? I won’t allow anything to happen to a girl so young.”
“Hunter, I’m not a baby!” Omega exclaimed. “I’m as tall as Emerie, I know how to take care of myself. I’m not afraid of the Empire.”
Wrecker frowned, afraid to say a word to try and avoid Hunter yelling at him. But he never liked it when Omega and Hunter argued with each other. “Hunter,” he said softly. Hunter turned to him with an angry look, and Wrecker felt like shutting up. But he wanted to be supportive of Omega.
“Omega is a strong girl. We should give her a chance to live a life outside of Pabu. We had our life, it’s her turn. She wants to follow the stars.”
“Wrecker-”
“Hunter, breathe,” Shep advised. He didn’t want to say more, afraid that Hunter could get more angry. Wrecker breathed, thankful Shep stopped Hunter before he could yell at him.
“You’re not going anywhere. You’ll stay here, safe and sound.”
After saying that, Hunter looked at Omega. Her lips trembled, tears welling up in her eyes. Hunter’s anger went cold as he looked at his little girl who was about to cry.
“You had told me that I could be whatever I wanted. I’m choosing to become a Rebellion fighter, becoming a soldier just like you all were. Why won’t you support that?”
Before Hunter could say anything, Omega stormed off, tears streaming down her face. Hunter’s shoulder slumped. He knew he had just made a mistake. But how was he going to be able to fix it in a way that would make sure everything would be okay?
Lyana and Emerie went after Omega to make sure she was okay. The rest of the table remained silent, refusing to eat more. Batcher whined, worried about Omega. Crosshair gave her a pet and a glare at Hunter. The brothers stood up, leaving the table to head back into their home.
Phee stood up to leave to check on Omega. “You’ve got some thinking and making up to do, Hunter.”
Hunter exhaled. He sat down in his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose and wanting to let some tears out. Shep stood up, walking over to Hunter and putting a hand on his shoulder.
“Kids grow up fast. It was hard for me to let Lyana out of Pabu with Phee, but she’s old enough to go out and explore on her own. You helped Omega grow up and taught her everything she needs to know. You know she can do this.”
Hunter knows. He didn’t know what to do about it though. He didn’t want his little girl to leave.
***
Morning dawned with the small moonyos awake and squealing as they ran around the land. Batcher ran after them, while Crosshair tried to get her to stay with him on her daily morning walk.
Omega breathed in, looking out her window at the sky. She loved flying up there, and she would miss it.
She got her bag ready, placing it over her shoulder. Omega had a lot to do. She stepped out of her room, meeting Hunter standing in front of her. He held a plate filled with sliced fruit.
“How did you sleep?”
Omega tried to take the frown off her face, but she just couldn’t. She gave Hunter a small smile and a nod. “Good. I need to go meet Lyana in the treasure hall. I’ll be back.”
“How about some fruit? There’s some sliced meiloorun,” Hunter offered the plate, knowing it was one of her favorites.
Omega looked at the plate of fruit. She stepped forward, taking the entire plate off his hands for her way. “Thanks.” She quickly hurried out. Hunter wanted her to sit down and eat, but she had already left.
Hunter knew she was really upset, and he felt sorry for being really strict with her. Ever since they had picked her up off Kamino, she was always willing to help save and protect those who needed it most. She never stopped fighting for the clones who became subject to the Empire’s experiments, playing a vital role in bringing that to an end. Omega was his little fighter, and she wanted to fight more.
Hunter just didn’t know if he was ready to allow her to go and fight. He had to fix this.
***
Omega walked to the treasure hall with the fruit plate in hand and nibbled on a slice of meiloorun, taking in the scenery around her in the market. She loved the aromas swirling in the air, remembering the times she would buy a lot of the sweet sticky treats that were covered in maple syrup and served on a stick. She loved them so much, Crosshair had to stop her once so her teeth wouldn’t rot and her stomach wouldn’t hurt. Omega was happy her childhood could become full of things natural-born kids were happy to have: ice cones, sweet treats, games, and a good family.
Omega walked nearby the central tree on Pabu, looking up at its blooming leaves. She circled around the tree, kneeling down in front of it.
After Tantiss, the Batch had set up a small memorial for Tech. The memorial was made out of flowers Omega had chosen with her brothers and Phee, and a few of Tech’s favorite items that were salvaged (though burnt) from the Marauder’s explosion, all arranged in a circle. Omega often came by the memorial to talk to her brother.
“Hi, Tech. Today’s a big day. I’m going to go join the Rebellion and become one of their pilots. You taught me to fly, and now I can put what you taught me to use. I hope you’re doing okay. Phee always told me you’re flying up in the sky, watching over us every day. I hope you’ll be up in the sky with me.”
Omega placed a slice of fruit down and took out some flowers from her bag, setting them down on the memorial. She stood up, saluting her brother and giving him a smile. Omega knew Tech was always with her, and she was ready to take him with.
Omega reached the treasure hall, entering to meet with Phee, Emerie, and Lyana. “I brought fruit.”
They were ready to say goodbye before Omega headed on her way tonight. Last night, the three had consoled Omega, and Omega had decided that she was going to leave on her own terms. The three knew they couldn’t stop Omega if they tried; it was Omega’s new dream she wanted to chase.
Phee, Emerie, and Lyana gave Omega warm smiles. Lyana approached Omega and wrapped her in a hug. Letting go, she took out a small handmade bracelet from her pocket. “To remember me by. We’ll match too.” Lyana raised her hand, a bracelet on her wristing looking identical to the one she gave Omega.
Omega smiled, putting the bracelet on her left wrist. “It’s perfect.” She looked over at Phee and Emerie, who were standing near the most valuable treasures to Omega which remained in this hall. She approached the two treasures, stroking one of Lula’s ears. She stroked the ears of the tooka doll that was gifted to her by Wrecker when she was young, missing the times she had slept with Lula snuggled next to her. Tech’s goggles were settled next to Lula, now held gently in Omega’s hand. Omega chose to have his goggles remain in the treasure hall to keep it safe.
“You said you planned on taking them along. You sure you don’t want them to remain safe in here?” Emerie asked.
Omega turned around to Emerie. “Tech taught me to fly, and I’m going to become a pilot because of him. I want him to be with me all the time. And Lula would love to accompany me on the missions.”
“Brown Eyes would be so proud of you,” Phee said.
“He would let you go.” Omega heard Crosshair’s voice, just as he, Wrecker, and Echo walked into the room. Gonky was with them, honking noises happily.
Wrecker rubbed his arm. “We… we’re not ready to let you go either. But it’s your choice. And we’ll talk to Hunter.”
“We’ll make him understand. You deserve a life on your own, and the Rebellion would love to have you as a fighter,” Echo said.
Crosshair walked up to Omega. She had grown so much, and yet he tried to harm her when they first met, all because of that stupid Empire. He had left all that behind, staying loyal to his sister. “Give them hell, Omega. They’ll never see it coming.”
Omega smiled, unable to hold back tears. Except for Echo, her brothers were long retired from the fight, but they chose to be supportive of their sister’s choice to keep fighting, just like they had always done. She leaped into Crosshair’s open arms, hugging her little brother close. Wrecker joined in, letting Echo join the hug as well.
“Thank you.” Omega broke away from the hug, wiping tears away. “Let Hunter know how much I love him, and I will miss him.” Omega wished she could tell him in person. She wanted to try and reason with him, but she didn’t want to argue with him again like yesterday.
Her brothers smiled at her, proud of the girl they raised. Gonky honked, talking to Omega.
“You want to come with?” she asked Gonky. Gonky honked more. The droid had some fight left in them, and they wanted to be with Omega all the way, offering their help.
Omega smiled. “Of course you can come.”
“Try to comm us when you’re there, so we know you’re safe,” Crosshair said. Omega remembered how much he loved to check on her, making sure she was safe and protected in every corner. Omega nodded.
“Comm us anytime you can, we’ll be waiting to hear all about it,” Wrecker added.
“If you ever need me, I’ll be a call away,” said Echo.
“As will I. I always want to be connected with you,” Emerie smiled.
“You’ll be one of the strongest pilots of them all. Let me know if you find any ancient treasures, or if you want to hear any more stories,” Phee said.
“Promise to stay in touch?” Lyana asked.
Omega smiled warmly at her family. “I will. I promise.”
***
Hunter sat on a rock, listening to the waves while the breeze ran through his hair. He heard Batcher’s barks coming closer, smiling softly. She was always around whenever someone needed help or comfort.
Batcher sat down next to Hunter, rubbing her head next to his arm. Hunter petted her, looking out at the water. He remembered all the times he had spent with Omega here. Swimming in the water, playing catch with Batcher on the beach, going out for a morning walk together. All the beloved memories with his young sister. She was technically older than them, but to Hunter, she was always their kid. His kid.
“I’ve got to let her go, don’t I?”
Batcher looked up at Hunter, letting out a small whine.
“I know, it hurts me as much as it makes you sad. She’s growing up, and Omega’s right. We taught her how to fight. Now it’s time for her to become whatever she wants to be.”
Hunter sighed, looking over at Batcher. “Come on girl, let’s go give our young one a farewell.”
***
Pabu’s silent nights were beautiful as always, the lights glowing around the water. Omega could hear the birds’ chirps grow more distant as she packed in her room. Everyone was getting ready for bed, while Omega got ready to leave. She fixed up her hair and made sure she had everything packed in her bag, the rest of her items ready on her ship. Omega was going to miss her family and friends so much, but it was just like Tech said; Change was something that everyone needed to learn to accept.
Omega stopped by her brothers’ room, the door half-open. She slowly opened the door without trying to make a loud creak, wanting to say a silent goodbye as he slept.
Omega had decided to write a note for Hunter, telling him her choice and that she loves him. She knew her brothers would let him understand. While Hunter slept, Omega carefully left the note next to the lamp.
Omega breathed, ready to leave her home. She headed down to the caves and looked up once more at the glimmering island, the home she grew up in. Omega cherished all the memories made here, and she would carry them with her whenever she went.
Heading into the cave to reach her ship, Omega listened to the water dropping nearby. She reached the part of the cave where her ship was landed, kneeling down and turning on the lantern. Omega heard a bark, looking up to see Batcher and Hunter. Omega smiled.
Of course he would be here. He’s always near me whenever I need him. Omega stood up, heading over to her brother.
“Thought you could just sneak off? Time hasn't dulled all my senses.” Hunter had sensed Omega near him while she had put down the note. He had waited until she had fully left to sit up, reading the note. He knew he was going to try and go against her word, and his brothers already let her go. Batcher wanted to say goodbye too in person, so he had taken her along.
Omega laughed, sitting down next to Hunter. “This shouldn’t be a surprise. The Rebellion needs pilots now more than ever.”
Oh, Hunter knew. She had already left them once before for the sake of their protection. He knew Omega was willing to leave on her own terms to help protect others.
Omega sighed. She had to stand up to Hunter. “I made my choice, Hunter. I want to do more.”
Hunter swallowed. “And we want to keep you safe.”
Protecting Omega had become their life ever since they had took her off Kamino and saved her from the Empire’s hands. Omega knew how much he wanted to protect her. “You have. But I'm not a kid anymore. You don't have to worry about me.”
She had grown up, but Omega was always a kid in Hunter’s eyes. He could never get over how tall she got all of a sudden one day and how she couldn’t fit the clothes he had gotten for her anymore. Omega had gotten so big for Hunter way too fast, it felt like it was just last year that he held a small girl in his arms every night.
“You’re our kid, Omega. You always will be.”
Omega placed a hand on Hunter’s shoulder. “Hunter, you've all fought enough. This? It's my fight. I'm ready.”
Omega let go of his shoulder, standing up to head to her ship. Hunter wanted to reach his hand out. He didn’t want her to go at all. He wanted her to keep staying by his side. He wanted the little girl who would bury herself into his arms to remain with him every night, letting him sing her a lullaby to sleep.
Hunter sighed. “Yeah, I know you are. But I'm not.”
Omega turned to Hunter with a comforting smile. She gave Hunter a tight hug, holding her younger brother close. She let go, already missing his warm touch. She told him to keep an eye on her other brothers and Batcher.
Hunter nodded. He placed a kiss on her forehead, giving her a smile. “Off you go.”
Omega smiled. She hurried off to her ship, Gonky waiting for her to come onboard. She knelt down to Batcher, giving her some pets.
“Omega.” She stepped onto her ship, stopping when she heard Hunter.
“If you ever need us, we'll be there.”
Omega nodded, heading into her ship. She set her bag next to Lula, who sat in a chair, ready for the adventure. Omega powered up her ship, adjusting Tech’s goggles in front of her. She had decided to place them in front of her so she knew Tech would always be alongside her whenever she flew. The ship was ready to go, and so was she. Her adventures in the stars were calling her name. She looked over at Hunter, who gave her a salute. Omega returned it, ready to go.
The coordinates to the rebel base were in, and Omega lifted off, rising up to the night sky. Hunter watched her go with a proud smile on his face.
Batcher whined next to him, already missing her best friend. Hunter gave her a pet. “It’s all right girl. She’ll be fine.” Hunter switched the lantern off, looking back as Omega’s ship rose up to space. Batcher watched before following Hunter to head back home.
Hunter felt like crying, watching his little kid go. He knew she was strong, and she would be okay. She’ll be a strong fighter and a strong Rebel.
This was her calling. Omega was ready to follow the stars, as they would guide her to her destiny.
The Lost Legacy - Part 1 - A Star Wars Story
In the aftermath of the Galactic Civil War, the galaxy was slowly rebuilding, but remnants of the old Empire still lingered, lurking in the shadows. On the remote desert planet of Jakku, a scavenger named Kaelin stumbled upon a hidden treasure buried beneath the dunes. Little did she know that this discovery would set off a chain of events that would change the fate of the galaxy forever. Kaelin, a scrappy young woman with a knack for finding valuable scraps among the wreckage of starships, had spent years surviving on her own. The harsh climate of Jakku had forged her into a resourceful fighter, but the solitude weighed heavily on her heart. She often dreamed of adventure beyond the endless sands, and today, fate would grant her that wish. While scavenging near the remnants of an old Imperial Star Destroyer, Kaelin unearthed a small, metallic box etched with unfamiliar symbols. Intrigued, she carefully pried it open to reveal a holocron pulsating with azure light. As she activated the device, a holographic image of a long-dead Jedi Master materialized before her, his robes flowing and his voice resonating with wisdom. "Greetings, seeker of knowledge," the Jedi Master intoned. "I am Jedi Master Jarek Tano. If you have found this holocron, it means you are destined for a greater purpose." Kaelin's heart raced as she absorbed the words of the Jedi. The holocron revealed the existence of a hidden Jedi temple, rumored to house ancient artifacts and teachings that could help restore the Jedi Order. Master Jarek explained that the temple was located on the distant planet of Lothal, a planet rich in the Force but long since forgotten. However, the holocron also warned of a dark presence pursuing the same artifacts—a remnant of the Empire trying to reclaim the power of the Sith. This dark force was led by a mysterious figure known only as the Shadow Hand, a ruthless enforcer tasked with hunting down Force-sensitive individuals and extinguishing any hope of a new Jedi Order. With a newfound sense of purpose, Kaelin resolved to embark on a journey to Lothal. But first, she needed a ship. As she trekked back to her makeshift home, she stumbled upon a group of scavengers led by a charismatic former pilot named Tarek. With his charm and quick wit, Tarek had gathered a following, but their methods were often unscrupulous. Seeing potential in Kaelin, Tarek offered her a chance to join their crew in exchange for her knowledge of the local terrain. Kaelin hesitated, knowing that Tarek’s group was known for bending the rules, but the allure of adventure and the possibility of uncovering the Jedi temple were too tempting to resist. As they prepared to leave Jakku, Kaelin couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched. The shadows seemed to stretch longer, and the winds whispered warnings of danger. But with the holocron secured in her pack, she felt a flicker of hope ignite within her. The crew set off aboard a rusted freighter named the "Dune Runner," a ship that had seen better days but still held the promise of adventure. As they soared away from Jakku, the vastness of space opened up before them, and Kaelin felt a rush of excitement and fear. She was leaving behind the only home she had ever known, stepping into the unknown to seek a lost legacy. Little did they know, the Shadow Hand was already on their trail, a figure cloaked in darkness with a steely resolve to prevent the resurgence of the Jedi. As they traveled through hyperspace, Kaelin sat in the cockpit, clutching the holocron tightly, wondering what challenges awaited them on Lothal and whether she had the strength to face the darkness that was coming. With each passing moment, the galaxy felt as if it were holding its breath, waiting for the clash between light and dark, hope and despair. The Lost Legacy had begun, and Kaelin was determined to uncover the secrets of the past while forging her own path into the future.
⋆。 ゚☁︎。 ⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。 ⋆ .𖥔 ݁ ˖☾𖤓.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ⋆。 ゚☁︎。 ⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。 ⋆
It’s been a galactic month since your entire world collapsed.
A month has passed since the Jedi temple was attacked. A month since you woke up and found yourself in the bedroom of the mandalorian that conquered your heart.
And a month since you…
The thought of what you did has you flinching in pain like you just touched an exposed live wire.
Someone calls out your name. When you turn there stands Shouto along with his intriguing friend - the scavenger pickpocket who could speak seven and maybe even more languages.
“We plan to explore Tatooine tomorrow.” Todoroki is patient and calm, a true honor to his Jedi title. “You’re more than welcomed to join us.”
Even his friend, the pickpocketing smuggler who still does not seem trustworthy, wears a rather understanding look mirroring Shouto’s.
You think of the heat on Tatooine, the blistering mirage of the sand and the change of scenery it might bring.
So you agree to go.
Shouto smiles a reassuring grin that whispers of how proud he is for you to take this step.
His smuggler friend grins wider. “Sweet, guess that means I get to steal a bigger means of transport for us.”
“No.” Shouto flat out swiftly shuts the idea down.
Something hollow, the echo of a laugh leaves you but you hope even this is the start of returning back to yourself.
You send Monoma a private message over your jailbroken data pad about your upcoming trip. He immediately calls as you pack.
“Sure Tatooine is boring but...” Neito begins, a bit bored himself. “You can go snag me one of those nice satchels the vendors there sell.”
The truth is easy to find under his words.
I’m glad you’re getting out, I’m glad you’re trying to move forward.
You ask if the Jedi council has anything new to stay and just thinking about it draws a deep ache in your soul.
“Nah. They’re mainly keeping busy overseeing the rebuilding process and there’s been no update on the hunt for the culprit.”
You sigh. There had been no leads or luck on your side of the search either.
“I’m not surprised. Leads are going cold. Even with Sir disgusting picture perfect Jedi knight Deku still on Naboo, we got nothing.”
Oddly enough you missed hearing Monoma complain about the shining star that emerged from your academy class.
“Let’s hope Tatooine has something.” You hope.
“Well now with you on the investigation team I know we’ll get shit done. And if not, I’m getting so close to blowing something up myself.”
“Hey now.” You playfully chide Monoma. “No threats of violence now, Jedi Knight.”
Monoma chuckles weakly but the comment draws blood at a barely healing wound.
A silence settles between you and your dear friend. Its heaviness over the call clogs your senses and painfully crawls over your skin.
“Miss you dummy.” Nieto coughs out through tears and you furiously blink back your own.
“Miss you too, you annoying ass.”
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
Tatooine’s heat bears down unforgivingly.
The planet’s two suns stings your eyes. There’s even sand in places you didn’t think it could reach. But the liveliness of Mos Eisley, the commotion of the markets, comfort you and raise your spirits.
Under the dry air it feels as if you are resurfacing, emerging from a fog you have existed in for an entire month.
It’s invigorating, has you strolling through the markets with a relaxed ease.
Shouto and his smuggler, who is notoriously friendly with the Jawas, decide to check the junkyards first for any new information and leads. You instead head to the city to hopefully pick up any chatter about the temple.
After all, you are no longer in your Jedi robes.
So any fear of someone not speaking about the temple around you is gone.
Among the bustling marketplace in the heart of the city, a stall with shimmering jewels and trinkets twinkling under the two suns snags your attention. Specifically a beautiful iridescent gem like pendant immediately catches your eye. The jewel hangs off a simple sturdy leather thread and allows the stunning crystal to be center focus. Your fingers trace over it gingerly and fondly.
“Oh, are you planning to propose soon?”
The vendor suddenly asks intrigued and brightly curious. Her words make you choke out a wild dry cough.
“Excuse me?” You politely and weakly laugh.
“That’s an engagement pendant!” The older twi’lek woman beams excitedly with a twinkle in her eyes almost rivaling her jewelry.
“You have someone special in mind?”
The image of who you have in mind flashes fast. His striking black beskar armor, the electric orange and green trimming… his loud voice…
Your heart starts crumbling in your chest.
“No.” Your reply is rather hollow. “Just thought it looked beautiful.”
Whatever else the woman hears in your voice is enough to quiet any more questions she might have. You return to browsing the other jewels offered on the stand. But even with the beautiful craftsmanship before you, a slow poison seeps into your mouth and you try swallowing it back. But your heart remains an open wound thinking of that mandalorian.
And you think it always might be now.
The stall vendor who went silent now gasps so sharply it spooks you. You snap your gaze up to her.
Her eyes staring beyond you are wide and hypnotized.
“A mandalorian.” She whispers.
A terrifying dread runs up your spine. The rational voice screaming inside your head argues it could be any mandalorian, that you shouldn’t be getting this worked up.
You decide to see and prove to yourself that it is not the mandalorian haunting your existence.
When you turn off to the side -
You discover striking obsidian beskar armor, a beautiful ink dot against the shimmering sands.
Your heart collapses. Your legs almost buckle.
The familiar beskar helmet stares straight at you.
“Shitty Jedi!”
Then the mandalorian screams so gutturally loud that half of the market turns towards him.
You turn the other way and run.
Your heart races wildly loud in your ears, a horrifying war like drumbeat.
It can’t be him.
But in your heart of hearts you know it is. You would know it’s him in every lifetime, in any other reality.
In such a wild panic you can’t fully comprehend your focus. You even forget to use the force to run away.
A dead end hallway stops you in your tracks. Before you can bolt in another direction, a mandalorian descends down from the sky. He lands before you a fiery man of myth immortalized straight from his people’s creed.
“What the fuck?!” Bakugo screams at you raw and demanding.
“Stop screaming!” You hiss back but your voice already begins cracking.
“No!” He snarls back.
“You’re going to cause a scene.” You snap back harder and glare fierce at him.
“I don’t fucking care!” He punches out every word not wavering once. Standing across from you, Bakugo is an intimidating force so broad and filling up the space with his armor.
It’s a simple staring contest. No words are spoken for what feels like hours. A part of you wonders if maybe this is all just a heat mirage illusion brought on by your sad heart.
You end up sighing defeated.
You weren’t going to have this discussion, this reunion, here in an alleyway of the city. You and him deserved better than that.
So with a silent nudge of your face beckoning him to you, the mandalorian wordlessly follows you back to the hostel Shouto’s smuggler booked.
A rapid nostalgic haze tugs at you. This feeling of him so close to you, walking through a crowded planet is as if not a day has gone by.
Yet, an entire month hangs between you and him.
Thankfully your two travel companions are still out when you return to the suite. In the eerie stillness of the cramped room, you turn to the tense warrior.
“What are you doing here?” You don’t even have the energy to yell at him.
Out of all the planets in this grand universe, how did you have the luck of stumbling into this man here?
“That annoying fuckin’ blonde Jedi friend of yours.” Bakugo replies gruffly and his words rattle your brain.
“Wait, Monoma?!” You’re the one shrieking now.
The helmeted warrior nods.
“He told me you’d be here…” Bakugo’s voice trails off.
Even with the rabid confusion consuming your brain, you remember Neito was planned to be sent back to Mandalore. However, he never spoke about it with you. So you began to wonder if he ever did go. Now it makes sense and only confirms your suspicions.
“Why did he tell you?” Your voice wavers frustrated.
The mandalorian’s fist clenches. “Because I told him I needed to talk to you, shitty Jedi.”
The term claws at your soul.
“I’m not a Jedi anymore.” You flat out tell him.
A moment passes.
“Yeah…blondie told me about that too.”
Your heart drops. Of course Monoma told him. He always was a damn gossip.
All you can do is shakily exhale.
The memory still stings so raw.
Leaving your lightsaber at the ruins of the temple, crying with Neito over your decision, sitting with a thick confusion that had you in a daze for days…
“Why?” Bakugo asks, confused, dare you even say genuinely concerned.
“Why did you leave the order?” He clarifies.
The question you knew was coming.
The weight of its answer still feels too grand, too out of reach even for you. It’s like your heart and mind can’t fully comprehend into words the complicated sticky reason.
You tried to justify that your confusion mainly stemmed from the trauma of the temple attack and that you needed time to mediate, to heal. But the truth, your answer, is that you wanted more.
You wanted to yank off the shackles keeping you from reaching for him, that kept you from embracing every aspect of your heart.
So you half heartedly lie.
“I couldn’t wholeheartedly serve the order anymore.” Even stripped of the title of Jedi knight, your answer surprises you. So noble and composed as ever, a hard habit you think you might never fully be rid of.
“What’s that supposed to fuckin’ mean?” Of course Bakugo sees through your words, tries digging through them.
“It means what it means.” You reply back sharply. “I couldn’t stay in the order. I had too much on my mind and I knew…”
You knew that everything in you ache to break everything you were raised with. Because after you faced ruin and destruction, you ached to step forward into a future full of life without anything holding you back, without worrying if you were disappointing anyone or even yourself.
“I knew I couldn’t honor the Jedi.” You finish simply.
You were thankful those like Shouto and Monoma especially understood and helped guide you. They supported you even after your path diverged from theirs.
It’s why you would continue to still help look for the culprit who attacked the temple. You might not see yourself as a Jedi anymore but that didn’t mean you would truly abandon them.
So absorbed in your thoughts you don’t realize how quiet the room has gotten until Bakugo suddenly breaks it.
“Sorry…Knew how much it meant to you.”
It did. But you realized there are things that might mean more.
All you can do is weakly thank him.
You sigh again as the weight of this moment slowly curls over your shoulders and tries to dig past your skin.
“Is that why you left without saying shit? Without even saying goodbye?” His voice gradually fluctuates with tension and hurt. It shreds apart your heart with a jagged edge.
After you had woken up in Bakugo’s room, you stayed in a pretend sleep whenever he returned, not ready to face him yet. You couldn’t continue to keep bringing him into your path of trouble. Even after meditating, even after deciding to leave the Jedi order, you came to the same conclusion. You needed to leave this mandalorian.
For his sake and maybe mainly yours.
So you tell him how you managed to leave like a wordless ghost.
In your first true selfish act, in your first step at shattering your sense of self as a Jedi, you used the force to sense when Bakugo left. Once he was far away enough, you slipped out of the hut. Using the force to cause diversions, you bolted straight to the planet’s port of entry. After that you slipped away onto the next transportation shop.
You cried the entire time on the way back to Coruscant.
You do not tell him this.
Now the consequence of all these actions, your actions, stands before you hurt and anger forged in a man of beskar armor.
“You didn’t even tell me.” His voice cracks and your eyes blink through cloudy tears to stare at him.
You ache to see his eyes, to know what this man looks like.
“I have my reasons, and I’m sorry. I really am.” You apologize, wiping your tears away.
“Yeah? Those reasons better be real fucking good!” He snarls and you glare furious at this mandalorian.
“You wouldn’t understand.” You snap back like a cornered loth cat. You’re tired. You’re emotionally drained and the heat of the planet is catching up to you. You wearily move to sit on the creaky dusty couch.
“To have something control your life that keeps you away from someone…from somethings-”
You quickly correct yourself, but your voice continues wavering more and more with the frustrated tears threatening to spill.
“You’re so loyal to your own creed and I…I couldn’t face you.”
You don’t tell him the whole truth.
You don’t utter the truth that you loved him so much that it alerted your entire world. You wanted to let yourself love him against all odds. But, you wonder if this myth of a man could even possibly hold the same feelings towards you.
Every emotion tears you apart all over again. Inside of you rages a storm ripping apart every safe harbor you had built. All you can do is close your eyes to stop the tears from the storm raging.
“You said it kept you away from someone.” Keen as ever, Bakugo catches your comment.
That’s when you also notice his voice is closer.
Your eyes snap open and your heart drops into your stomach. The explosive mandalorian kneels before you.
“Who?” He asks calm, firm and surprisingly low.
You can’t even say his name and instead stare at him, stubborn and your tongue locked up tight
Bakugo says your name in the same direct tone except now with an undercurrent of urgency.
“Who?” He repeats again.
Out of frustration or maybe finally the weight of your emotions cracks you. Angrily shove away tears until you eventually cry into one of your hands not even able to look at him.
“I knew we could never be together.” You croak out a whisper. “You’re engaged. And with your creed, even when I stopped being a Jedi I just…”
The words escape you on another sob.
Large gloved hands suddenly rest gently on your thighs. Panic snaps your eyes open and there his striking black helmet stares unwaveringly at you.
Bakugo firmly says your name and you wait for the heartbreak that’s about to come.
“Marry me.”
It doesn’t.
“What!?” You ask through tears and snot.
“Marry me.” Bakugo repeats as unflinching and true as he did the first time.
“You… you’re engaged!” You stammer out.
“Obviously not! I’m in love with you but I’m not a fucking asshole! I wouldn’t have asked you if I was still engaged!”
His words knock you breathless, throw you out of orbit and you’re surprised your body has not floated away.
“You love me.” The words don’t sound real even from your mouth.
He coughs out a watery sound and moves forward. His bodily slots between your legs effortlessly. He curls against you and presses his helmeted forehead to yours.
“More than you know, shitty jedi.” He croaks while his strong arms wrap you in his embrace.
“Not a Jedi anymore.” You mutter watery as you clutch onto him.
“You’re not.” Bakugo confirms as he moves to rest his helm against your face.
“Be my riduur instead.”
During your time in Mandalore you picked up on plenty of Mando’a phrases and words. You even flirted with the idea of trying to learn the language fully.
You did learn some mandalorian words held a sacredness that set them apart because of their layered holy weight.
Riduur is one of those words.
It translates to wife, husband, spouse. But riduur held the weight of a partner forged in such a deep love that the basic term of spouse couldn’t capture the bond a mandalorian marriage would bring.
Your eyes widen and a storm of tears blur your vision. This time however, it’s the overwhelming overflow of emotion filling your heart and spilling over.
Nodding you holding onto him tighter.
You try joking about wanting to be the only one who gets to annoy him for the rest of his life. But your voice comes out a ridiculous sob.
Bakugo barks a wild chuckle and his arms tighten around you as well.
“S’why I asked you. Couldn’t put up with any other extra.”
Your eyes close right as you now hold onto your fiancé, and the thought of that makes your brain trip over itself.
“We’re getting married.” You mutter out mainly to yourself still not believing it.
“Damn right.” Bakugo growls low and proud.
“Congratulations.”
Your eyes snap open wide and horrified at hearing Todoroki’s simple flat comment.
Your mandalorian scrambles away from your embrace to instead lean in front of you, as if to shield you.
Standing in the door’s entryway is Todoroki and his smuggler friend who smacks your once fellow Jedi knight.
“I told you to keep quiet!” The smuggler cries out horrified at being caught.
You’re embarrassed. Bakugo is screaming obscenities but for some reason, you laugh. It’s a buyout laugh filling you bright and beautiful. That’s when the force suddenly surges through you warm and celebratory.
Earlier this month you thought it had slipped away. That even the force itself began to pull away because of your decisions.
But now it hums beautifully in and around your body, exhilarated and electric. You think you could power an entire planet.
You laugh and simply lean against your fiancé who continues to threaten to blast poor Todoroki out the window. But his hand suddenly reaches out to your knee and he squeezes it tight, reassuring as if to say I am here.
You came to Tatooine simply looking for a lead on the temple attack.
Now would be leaving it engaged with a mandalorian by your side.
“Come back to my ship with me.” He mutters softly after you manage to drag him away to a local cantina to grab something to eat.
You don’t hesitate to follow him.
The inside of his grand sleek starship, modified to fit a whole room compartment, greets you like the warmest old friend. You even take a stroll around trying to see if he added anything new.
“So you wanna to get married now or what?” Bakugo simply asks.
Your mind feels as if he just set off one of his explosives inside.
“Now?!” You shriek shrill and chaotic.
“Yes now.” You’ve been with him long enough to know this tone suggests he’s rolling his eyes.
Trying to process this your mind sputters in a spiral like a broken speeder bike.
You understood mandalorians held certain courting rituals that you vaguely heard of. You voice this concern to your mandalorian who crosses his hands over his chest in a pouting type manner.
“That’s for potential marriage partners. We’re already engaged aren’t we?” Bakugo challenges.
“So we just skipped an entire courting process?” He seemed like such a traditionalist and would be upset over this. You even sound more upset than he does.
Especially when your fiancé simply shrugs.
“You’re not mad?” Now you have to ask and he shakes his head a casual no.
“Didn’t need to court anyone else.” He gruffy asserts confident and true.
So that meant jumping straight into marriage?
Whatever lies on your face, whatever is clouding your heart, your fiancé notices it and sighs.
He explains how Mandalorians typically didn’t have long engagements. When someone proposes marriage it’s with the acknowledgment they would be wedded moments or at the latest days after.
It mirrored the same direct quickness the first mandalorian vows were rumored to have been said in the creed’s legend.
“Look,” Bakugo continues with all the conviction a warrior pursuing victory holds.
“I know that’s my culture and shit but…We can wait whenever you’re ready.” He reassures you.
“I’ll wait for as long as you need because I know the ending s’always going to be the same. And that’s me as your husband. So if we do it today or fuck a year from now, I’ll wait.”
Love crashes into you in waves and you cannot fight the current any longer.
“So whenever you’re ready.” Bakugo’s beautiful beskar helmet nudges towards you. “You let me know.”
Now, you want to marry him now.
“Bakugo-” You are about to say your answer when he cuts you off.
“Katsuki.” He corrects you, a gentle firmness that speaks of his kind understanding.
His first name.
The most precious of gifts he can give to you and now here it is ready for yours to hold.
“Katsuki.” And you find to tastes like the most reverent prayer.
Mandalorian weddings, from what you remembered, were quick and privately intimate ceremonies. Here in his ship, away from his home planet and far away from yours on Coruscant, it’s as if this space is carved out just for you and him.
You don’t care about how long it’s been since you last saw him or that you only have been engaged for less than a day.
You want this, to be married to him, for him to be your husband.
And maybe it’s the shackles of the Jedi order being released from you but you want to be selfish. You want to grab at anything you want and greedily say yes it is okay to want without any guilt. It is beautiful to embrace it.
“Guess you’ll be the one having to call me Bakugo then huh?” You tease light but adoration coats your voice thick.
His shoulders tense. You can almost sense, almost see the suspended hope hanging on by a thread.
“So…you saying yes?” He tentatively ask.
You nod repeatedly and firmly.
“I want to marry you now.”
Katsuki walks closer to you, gently holding your hand in his.
“There’s this saying…” he begins low as if someone outside the ship might hear him.
He says a phrase and you can’t process what it is. You barely even pick up a word of Mando’a
“It’s a way we say I love you.” Katsuki explains. “But translate into basic it means something like… I’ll know you forever.”
To know is to love and to love is to know a person.
“That’s beautiful.” You admire and he nods silently.
“You know me, more than anyone else has.” Your mandalorian tells you. “And I know you. And even when I think I didn’t want to. I wanna keep knowing you for as long as I live.”
You swallow back a sob threatening to escape as you nod. You want that too.
He squeezes your hand.
“You ready?”
You squeeze his hand back. “I am.”
For a moment you think of the oath you took when you became a Jedi knight. How you swore to consecrate yourself to the universe, to a grand idea that would tie you to preserving an ideal and cause until your last breath.
Here you are now taking another vow, another oath, that you swear to honor for the rest of your days.
“Repeat after me.” Katsuki says and you don’t miss the slight waver in his voice.
“We are one when we are together or apart.” He declares and you repeat.
We are one when we are together or apart.
“We will share everything.”
We will share everything.
“And…” he pauses for a moment, but quickly gathers himself.
“We will raise warriors.”
The implications are not lost on you. You knew how open the mandalorians were about adoption, about raising children communally. This was a topic you would have to deeply discuss with him.
But the idea of simply guiding and watching over any young ones, even if they were not your own, even if you and him decide to not have children, shifts your world. Because just being by his side to help guide the next generation as you grow old with him is more than you can ever imagine.
We will raise warriors.
Once the words leave your mouth suddenly a shaky modulated exhale escapes your mandalorian.
Katsuki breathes out your name.
His bare hands move to cradle your face and a wide range of beautiful emotions begin to bubble in you.
“You shitty Bakugo.” Your husband, your husband, croaks to you tear soaked. You laugh loud and just as watery as he sounds.
That was going to take some time to adjust to. But this, in every way, is better than hearing him call you a shitty Jedi. Because you are Jedi no more. And now you exist as a Bakugo.
The excitement and giddiness bubbles over, illuminates you from the inside out. Katsuki presses his helmeted face against yours as you embrace him tight.
“I love you.” You breathe out to your husband.
Katsuki squeezes you firmer. You simply exist in this moment in his arms soaking in the quiet but powerful conviction of this new existence. You are someone’s spouse. You are his, just as irrevocably he is yours.
Katsuki mutters out your name.
“There’s…still one thing we gotta do.” He adds.
Oh?
Slowly Katsuki untangles himself from you and you already miss his warmth. His shoulders slightly curl over and his helmet can’t even face you.
A tinge of fear bubbles in you fast and threatens to poison the barely moments old wedding bliss.
“I’m going to have to fight your ex fiancé for stealing you away, aren't I?” The idea that pops into your head so fast and quick you can’t even stop it.
The beskar helmet turns back to you.
Then, Katsuki bursts out laughing. A true warm gruff cackle that shakes his shoulders and makes you want to smack him.
“What?! That’s it, isn’t it!?” You shriek. You immediately dreadfully think of having to go hand to hand against the red and white armored mandalorian of Yui Kodai, who you only met once.
Katsuki continues to laugh even after you begin pouting. He even shakes his helmeted head a solid no.
“Fuckin’ love your ridiculous ass so much.” He breathes out a wonderful modulated sigh.
His hands move up towards his helmet.
And then he begins to raise it.
The action clicks instantly in your mind. In many cultures and customs a kissing vow is exchanged after weddings. You wondered if that was a secret only known by mandalorians.
So out of respect for your new husband you naturally close your eyes.
The hissing sound of his helmet being removed fills the small space of his ship. You didn’t realize how much you had missed the quiet but electrifying sound.
You wait for the pressure of his lips against yours.
Nothing comes.
The force even retreats away from you so softly like a loth cat returning to its bed to nap and you feel a chill in the air.
Katsuki sighs slightly shaken and heavy.
You’re about to ask if he’s okay, want to comfort him already when he speaks up first.
His voice crystal clear calls out your name.
“Open your eyes.”
The words clutch your throat and ignite an electric wave throughout your body.
“What?” You ask a bit confused because maybe you had misheard.
“You heard me.” Katsuki urges gruffly but gentle, so truly like him. “Open your eyes.”
You couldn’t.
It was against the code, against everything he stood for, everything his people stood for.
The surprise brush of his fingers against yours provides a solid stability.
“What?” He teases light. “Afraid of what you might see?”
No. That wasn’t it at all.
You even shake your head a furious stubborn no that makes him chuckle.
You know without even seeing him that he’s beautiful, probably one of the most striking forces to ever be seen in this galaxy.
“You know I can’t.” A fervent urgency leaks into your voice as if you want to remind both him and yourself of the danger behind this act.
Defiance, banishment, excommunication.
The words sting you fierce.
Like the solid lifeline he is, the back of Katsuki’s bare hand tenderly running across your cheek floats you out of your hectic thoughts.
“We’re married now, idiot.” His voice wavers. “Clan members are allowed to see our faces.”
Something deep inside of you shifts so effortlessly.
You are a clan member now. The answer hangs so truthfully and effortlessly in the air you almost can sense the force itself giggling at you.
You want to see him. You’ve wanted nothing more than this, to know him and know the face of your husband.
So you open your eyes.
The first week after you left the Jedi order, Shouto’s smuggler friend took you out for a drink. There on the sips of alcohol and the freedom it tasted of, you spilled your heartache.
“In love with a mandalorain.” The scavenger had sighed almost a bit apologetic. “And you have no idea what he looks like?”
You shook your head no.
“I have imagined it though,” you instead added boldly because you had.
At first you couldn’t picture what this man of fire and beskar, who would fight a galaxy with his bare hands, would look like. But for some reason you always pictured his eyes bright, like the fiercest force that could never be dimmed because that’s the type of man he is. You believed his eyes would reflect that.
And now you find they do.
The most stunning crimson eyes stare at you so openly, honest, hesitant and guarded slightly. The bold red color is beautiful. You don’t even think you’ve seen eyes so gemlike.
You think of how red for a Jedi is aligned with the sith. It’s not a color one wants to encounter in a lightsaber. There was even a legend that spoke of how the first red kyber crystal was created when a sith held a white crystal in their hand until they bled and let the color soak into the gem.
The color that was once a warning sign now stares at you as a promise of your future, wonderful and warm like the red sky in the evening.
It fits him too.
The color of war, blood and passion so vividly mixing with the color strongly associated with love…
You think you fall in love all over again with this mandalorian.
Then you finally soak in his entire face and feel your soul leave your body.
He’s handsome. Of course he’s handsome you knew he would be. But he’s stunning in a way that has your thoughts clustering together in a collision.
A strong sharp manly jaw, high cheekbones, and the softest spikes of blonde hair -
You can’t believe it. He’s a blonde. He’s gorgeous.
And he’s yours.
“You’re beautiful.” You croak out freely and tear soaked.
You get to see his emotions flash across his face now, see how his eyes shimmer so glossy as his eyebrows furrow.
“Shitty riduur, that’s my line.” Katsuki replies back just as thick and his hand now simply cradles your face once again.
What did the vows say? That you and him were now one whether together or apart?
That already seems to be so true. Or maybe it always was.
The way you and Kastuki seemed to both mirror and repel each other like planets trying to fight a gravity bigger than your orbits. Now here you are.
You can’t help it.
You laugh a watery jubilant thing and clutch onto his hand still resting on your face. You happily burrow closer into his hold.
Slowly but so firmly Katsuki draws you into him. His bare face goes to rest against yours. His nose even burrows against your forehead as he towers over you.
Shakily your mandalorian exhales, relieved and gentle and you melting into him more.
“Thank you,” you whisper softly to him. “For showing me…for letting me know you.”
Katsuki’s arms wiggle out to now wrap you in a true warm embrace.
“Yeah, yeah.” He mutters back and your heart jumps at his lips tickling against your skin.
“You smell s’good.” His molten syrupy voice seeps into the very core of your being.
Your mind feels cloudy but in the best way so much that you can only hum back a quiet thanks as you press your cheek against his warm face more.
He says your name and your eyes, which had closed in pure content bliss, open wearily.
“There’s…there's somethin’ else…”
What elses could there be?
Begrudgingly you draw back from his warmth and glance up at him a bit curious now.
It’s so interesting and even a bit funny to see how expressive your husband truly is now. His crimson eyes are averted from you. His pretty blonde brows furrow so hard and faintly a hint of pink begins to color his cheeks.
Embarrassed, he seems embarrassed.
You’re about to ask what he means when suddenly those gemstone eyes of his snap back to you quickly and fierce.
“I wanna kiss you.”
He flat out says it but with unwavering solid sharpness.
The thought almost makes your body buckle. You even almost choke on the sharp inhale you take.
“O-oh.” You stammer out.
“Yeah.” Katsuki mutters out low and slightly bashful.
At just the thought your eyes immediately flicker to his lips. You noticed them earlier of course when you first saw his face but didn’t want to stare. Now you find they are soft, plush and you want to press your lips against his more than ever.
“I haven’t…” your mandalorian begins then his voice trails off.
He hasn’t kissed anyone.
It makes sense. He’s so abstinent in his loyalty that he would never remove his helmet for a simple kiss.
And, for some reason that truth licks a dangerously warm heat up your throat that also seizes your heart. To know you’d be the first and only one to kiss him awakens something clawed and pleased inside of you.
Katsuki swallows hard.
He’s hesitant, embarrassed, maybe even worried. It paints his handsome face so easily.
Very cautiously your hand rises up to his face.
After having his face covered for most of his life out of instinct Katsuki immediately snaps his attention to your hand with a hard cautious scowl. You freeze, wondering if this is all too much.
But then realizing what you are trying to do, your mandalorain’s scarlet eyes soften instantly. When your hand softly rests against his face, mainly against his sturdy jaw, Kastuki exhales heavily as he closes his eyes.
The weight of this force of a warrior melts against your hand as he leans against it fully.
“You’re considered the best of the clans,” you begin. “The best out of all the others.”
“Damn straight.” He mutters out still looking like a blissful lothcat against your hand.
You hold back a chuckle that still manages to trickle your lips.
“Then you have nothing to be afraid of.” You reassure him. “You’re a natural and the best for a reason.”
But you also realize that yes, even though he said he wants to do this, this does not have to be done right now.
“Plus, there’s no rush…We can wait whenever you’re ready, I’ll wait as long as you need.” You repeat the same words he told you, feel their weight and devotion, patience and love, weave deep into your bones.
You even feel a smile tug your lips.
Hazily, almost sleepily, his eyes halfway open to stare out at you with such an intense warmth you feel as if you are staring into his heart's core.
He’s so unbearably gorgeous you almost can’t stand it.
Then without any warning, Katsuki leans forward and presses his lips against yours.
The surprise of him acting so quickly mixes with the surprise of finally getting to kiss him that you wonder if your heart is going to give out from the rush of emotions. But then your mind melts to simply solidify into this moment.
You’re kissing him, your husband, your mandalorian. You’re kissing Katsuki.
His lips are so soft, warm and the faintest smell of his herbal soap suddenly fills your senses.
Slowly his lips begin to pull back ever the slightest before you jump back at him with the same energy of acting without hesitation.
Your eyes close as pure bliss fills you to the brim.
Your lips meet his once, twice in sweet simple kisses but each time he presses closer and closer to you.
Katsuki’s lips now chase yours as if to ask for another kiss every time as if he wants to slowly kiss you again and again until he can’t any more.
You almost want to snicker, but you believe if you do your secretly tender hearted husband might storm away in embarrassment. But it’s not out of humor why you want to laugh. It’s out of a giddiness you can’t describe.
Until you realize the giddiness is simply love.
It is a love stitched into your bones and so overjoyed to finally be free, to finally be in this moment with the man with crimson sunset eyes.
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
You came to Tatooine with Todoroki and his scavenger. You now would be leaving the planet with your husband.
“Are you sure you don’t want to just come back with us?” Shouto asks with the most intense sincerity in his dual colored eyes. He stares so directly into you wanting to gauge if you give him a secret sign saying otherwise.
“My ex jedi is coming home with me!” Bakugo barks back angrily at Shouto who ignores him flat out.
You laugh and even the scavenger who you now feel is slowly actually becoming a friend, laughs too.
You can’t thank this pair enough for what they have done for you. They gave you shelter when you were lost and aimless and a home when you had nowhere go. They became almost your strongest support system besides Monoma. Your heart would hold them tight together.
And when you bid them goodbye you hug the two of them just as right. You vow to contact them when you return to Mandalore.
Just because you are married now did not mean you would abandon any of your friends or the task of finding who attacked the temple.
As you watch them take a speeder bike to head out to the other city here on Tatooine you say a silent blessing to the force to keep them safe.
“When we get back home,” Katsuki mutters. “We’ll start figuring out what leads we can track.”
Seems like you would not be alone in your search.
Then the word hits you gently.
Home.
Mandalore would be your new home. Or mainly, Katsuki is your new home now.
Overwhelmed with emotions you turn back to stare at your husband.
Katsuki wears his helmet now but you can so clearly picture his handsome face composed with determination. You even itch to lean forward to just kiss the side of his curved helmet cheek. Instead you playfully nudge your armored husband who stiffens at your playful action. Then he nudges you back harder.
You snicker amused at how childish he can be.
“Damn weirdo.” He even mumbles out annoyed.
But his fingers continue to brush against yours as if to simply chase after your presence or simply remind him
how close you are.
The markets once again liven up the streets of Mos Eisely. You wanted to do one final look through the shops and vendors before your trip back. You even mention finding something for Monoma, specifically maybe that satchel he hinted about wanting.
“Fuck you and him are gonna be damn headaches together.” Katsuki even sounds as if the thought stabbed his side.
“Oh hush.” You chide him gently as you scan the market place.
That’s when you spot the familiar jewelry stand. The same elderly twi’lek woman is there working. Her eyes grow wide seeing you and then they eagerly flicker to the mandalorian with you.
Naturally you walk back to the stall.
“I’m thinking you might need that necklace now huh?” She grins wide and your face heats up.
“I was worried when I saw him chase after you but I should’ve known it was a lovers quarrel.” She adds and the thought of her being worried is endearing.
“Ha?” Your mandalorian asks so rudely and you lightly shush him as you buy the necklace.
The sweet elderly twi’lek giggles the entire time. Especially when Bakugou swoops in to hand the vendor credits.
“I could’ve paid for it.” You huff.
“No, cause that’s my job now.” He bluntly tells you like it’s the most obvious thing in this galaxy and you don’t even want to argue with him.
“Besides, s’nice.” He admires low, only for your ears.
“It’s an engagement pendant.” You explain. You even add how you’re just holding on to it until you can give it to him later.
“To mark our engagement and all that.” You casually and a bit cheekily say.
“We’re married!” He snaps back insulted and horrified that you’d even make the mistake of even forgetting.
“Oh you’re married?!” You’re not that far from the stall for the vendor to catch that. Or it could be that Katsuki is just that loud.
Either way you and him turn back to her. Her warm eyes shine with excitement.
You sleepy grin back to her. “So he says.”
“We are!” Your poor husband cries back furious.
You think this is it. This is the true blessing of getting to be married to this mandalorian for the rest of your life and that is getting to tease and annoy him.
You can’t help but snort. Then the rush of footsteps on the sandy gravel come towards you. When you and Katsuki turn back your dear vendor approaches with something in hand.
“Here, the companion piece!” She warmly hands you the twin of your necklace.
“Once someone gets married the spouse is meant to come back to retrieve the matching necklace so that the two are now together forever.”
It’s a sweet tradition and you happily hold the two necklaces together as you ask how much for both.
“Oh no young one, it’s fine.” The vendor waves you off warmly. “Think of it as a wedding gift from me and the city.”
You’re overwhelmed by the gesture, the pure genuine sweetness of it and the force even dances beautifully in the air.
“You’re too kind please let us-”
Before you can finish Katsuki moves beside you and places down two solid gold credits on the stall’s counter. That’s triple the amount that you paid and you’re pleased at your husband’s action.
The vendor exclaims in huttese and almost looks petrified seeing the money on her stand. She tries to sputter out something but you simply give her a warm thankful nod.
“Think of it as our thank you for the gift.” You tell her earnestly and even Katsuki beside you nods in quiet agreement.
With her heartfelt thanks you find yourself already walking back to the ship. Monoma’s satchel would have to wait for another day. Your eyes are focused on the two necklaces sitting in your grasp.
“I’m counting this as my wedding gift to you.” You say matter of factly to your husband.
“Oh yeah?”
“Yup, deal with it.”
He chuckles low at your reply.
“Moron.” Is all he says but you hear the truth happily buried beneath it.
Thank you, it’s wonderful. I'll cherish it forever…
You glance down again to look at the two necklaces with a fondness before you move to place them in your bag
“You’ll get your gift when we get back home.”
Then his words almost make you trip and drop your precious jewelry pieces.
“What wedding gift?” You ask again as worry leaks into your voice.
Even with the helmet on you know he’s staring dryly at you.
“What? You can get me somethin’ and I can’t get you shit?”
“You know that’s not what I mean!” You reply back huffy.
He stays quiet.
“What did you get me?”
Again he stays silent and doesn’t answer.
“Katsuki.” You hiss out and you believe this ridiculous mandalorian is now grinning at you victorious.
“It’s meant to be a surprise, shitty Jedi!” He barks back and you’re too wrapped up in this conversation to even correct him.
“Shit…thinking about it, it won’t be a surprise when you gotta get measured.” He mutters mainly to himself as if he realized this fact.
The words stop you dead in your tracks.
You stare at him a bit petrified and confused. So all you can do is ask him again, low and even a bit serious about what he got you.
You’re thankful to have made it to the edge of the market and it is mainly vacant.
Because your spirit leaves you the moment you see Katsuki move to tap at his beskar shoulder pauldron.
And it clicks.
Armor.
He means to give you beskar armor.
