non-biased, completely objective rating (more or less) of every significant demon fight in kny based on a number of factors, including:

cleverness of fighting tactics

placement in the story’s timeline

integration of character backstories

cohesive themes between characters

etc

by non-biased and objective i mean i’m not skewing the rating if a death felt fair or whatever

everything past where the anime ended will be under a read more so anime onlys who havent watched mugen train, youre safe lol

oh and i reread the manga like 20+ times (reread the latter arcs at least 40 times, haha hyperfixations am i right?) so be rest assured im not pulling these ratings out of my ass

i like how realistic it is, because yeah tanjirou would react the way to he did with zero fighting skills against a demon

very clear why tanjirou is fighting nezuko and shows a bit of worldbuilding on how normal people react to their family becoming demons

always nice to see worldbuilding

giyuu is the perfect example of a seasoned demon slayer who’s good at his job, and he juxtaposes tanjirou very well in that aspect

my only complaint is not directly in this fight itself but how nezuko is handled throughout the story as a whole

like bro, it is literally never explained why nezuko is different from demons

could have been easily explained if maybe her family’s ghosts like slapped her hand every time she wanted to eat a person but nope

she’s just built different lol

so yeah youll see future ratings get points docked off bc nezuko unlocks some secret power with no prior explanation other than she angy >:3

VS TEMPLE DEMON

may be more forgettable compared to like rui but still good

tanjirou did exceptionally well in this fight and his ability to think on his feet is once again beautifully illustrated here (trapping this dude’s head against the tree trunk with the axe)

very clever

again, establishes more demon worldbuilding regarding regeneration and still being able to move without their head

and the demons burning in the sunlight thing since nezuko wasn’t able to show that

the ending where tanjirou hesitates to kill the demon also serves to show his sympathetic nature towards demons that will last throughout the entirety of the first 60-ish chapters

ooooh probably the first big fight against a demon in the series

oh yeah not doing the two random demons tanjirou one shot in a single blow bc eh

anyways hand demon’s pretty goddamn scary, considering the fact that this is the 5th demon or whatever tanjirou has had to face so far

very nice way to show us how much tanjirou’s innate intuition and all his other random abilities (sense of smell, hard forehead) can come together and help him decapitate this guy

i liked the mini history with urokodaki this dude had and why he had beef with our favorite mentor figure, it establishes that urokodaki was in fact a super good demon slayer and its cool to see that actually shown

i also liked that small moment of compassion tanjirou gave this demon, staying consistent with tanjirou’s established kindness

the demon’s sad tale with killing his own brother very much humanizes him when all the reader has seen up to this point is that this guy is a monster who eats people

sets up the theme of demons just being humans but being victims of circumstance that unfortunately doesn’t hold up as well in arcs past mugen train

VS SWAMP DEMON

not my most favorite fight but it still portrays everything alright and im not allowed to let my personal opinions mess with the rating so

i like how tanjirou mentioned the fact that he trained in conditions similar to the bog and explains how he pulled off the whirlpool form

using past experiences to aid him in the present, nice nice

tanjirou and nezuko dont quite work together very well but its yknow the first mission so ill chalk it up to simple inexperience

also the way the muzan curse thingie was hinted at here? fantastic way of showing that little bit of demon worldbuilding

...

oh god, it mentions nezuko being stronger than normal demons

ok its not a problem here per say since i can still suspend my disbelief, but later on it just becomes a glaring problem that gets worse over time

VS SUSAMARU AND YAHABA

why dont these bitches have a good looking panel together dammit

anyways amazing entrance, the way yahaba used his hand eyes to track down tanjirou is really neat

the synergy yahaba and susamaru have is incredible, its awesome dude, they work extremely well together and it shows

tanjirou actually mixing his water breathing forms together is a god tier move and i absolutely love how he can show off his ability to think on his feet once again

establishing how yushiro’s bda works early on is really well done

establishing tamayo as a fugitive this early on is also super well done

not to get into spoiler territory but both these things pay off

how tamayo ended up defeating susamaru is literally awesome in so many ways

shows off both how smart she is by exploiting the muzan curse

and speaking of the muzan curse, we actually get to see what happens to demons who even say his name, back when it was hinted with the swamp demon

tamayo is amazing dude, and we get some real evidence of the horrible suffering demons go through if they even accidentally attempt to betray muzan :D

...

now heres what keeps this fight from being perfect

nezuko somehow grew stronger against susamaru’s temari

with no explanation

which could have been easily explained if tamayo was like “oh yeah the drug also boosts a demon’s strength temporarily”

but nope

god, i just dont like how gotouge handles nezuko’s power boosts throughout the series bc like i said before

no explanation is given anywhere

this is a huge issue, this isnt a pokemon game, you cant just kill demons and get exp at the end of every battle, level up, get some sweet stat bonuses and move on

(actually if gotouge established that this is how nezuko grew in power, than all my complaints about this would be gone, im not even joking)

anyways i get that nezuko is supposed to be “special” but thats too vague of a descriptor

how the hell is she special? ya gotta be more specific and stick with that explanation or that suspension of disbelief is going to disappear

VS TONGUE DEMON

establishes marechi blood pretty early on, once again expanding the worldbuilding of kny which is always cool

interesting terrain where it’s always shifting, tanjirou once again proves his ability to adapt really quickly by altering one of his forms to work with the turning room

(man, i wish the form mixing/form modification thing carried on throughout the rest of the story, but it really didnt which is just a shame)

the injuries tanjirou had prior to this mission actually affecting him was a nice touch

oh yeah, kyogai gives us more worldbuilding (which is always nice) regarding the 12 kizuki, and the aspect of him being cast out due to being weak shows a lot about muzan’s indifference towards his own demons if they arent strong

his backstory being a failed writer once again humanizes kyogai as a former human being and not just a monster

tanjirou shows his sympathy and compassion again by not stepping on his written work and complimenting his bda

well, tbh tanjirou’s actions kinda came out of nowhere but its a very minor thing and not enough to dock a point off, like it didnt affect the outcome of the fight that much if at all

(so if you see future battles where points are docked off for things not logically making sense, its bc whatever nonsensical concepts were integrated into the fight actually turned the tide of the battle and thats a big no-no)

very good fight and if you remember how kinda bad tanjirou was at accurately slicing the swamp demon, you can see that he’s already improved leaps and bounds

im so proud of him

VS MOTHER SPIDER DEMON

all the demon slayers getting their necks snapped by her threads was pretty horrific, probably more horrifying than anything else we have seen in the entire series if im gonna be honest

the death scene is probably the most beautiful one in the series

it reveals a water breathing form that we havent seen before thats the 5th form

as far as i know, no other breathing style has this merciful sword stroke so it shows a lot about the original water breather and what they might have been like

but enough about them, really the focus is on tanjirou bc this is like the best example by far of how kind and sympathetic he is to demons

dunno what else to say, its perfect

VS SON SPIDER DEMON

anyways extremely amazing fight, showcases zenitsu’s immense talent and skill, adapting the 1st form of thunder breathing to be a more versatile move

theres a moment where his backstory with kuwajima and kaigaku were revealed and his hidden insecurities are out in the open which is super nice and further develops a character weve only considered as comedic relief until now

the anime made the backstory scenes and the killing scene so much cooler

while there is no thematic connection between zenitsu and the demon, it really isnt necessary to keep this fight interesting

anyways another pretty much perfect fight

VS FATHER SPIDER DEMON

first time weve seen shinobu and her fighting style

what i love most about this is how much it shows her true character, appearing as a carefree and naive individual so she seems underwhelming

then bam, reveals exactly how dangerous and uncaring she is of demons, listing out the specific ways she would torture the daughter spider demon in grotesque detail

her using poison to take demons by surprise is also super clever and brings back the worldbuilding established way earlier about wisteria being poisonous to demons

amazing integration of that concept

anyways this fight really encapsulates who shinobu is as a character and thats why it gets a perfect score

VS RUI

not only is it a super scary fight but there is a deeper conflict between rui and tanjirou, what it means to be family

they are opposites in the sense that while tanjirou believes love is what makes a family, rui’s subconscious desperation for an unbreakable bond drives him to use fear to keep his “family” together

excellent juxtaposition of their values, and this is only further emphasized when rui expresses out loud what he was going to do to nezuko

i also like the symbolism regarding rui’s bda, how he uses threads or the “familial” bonds to cut up his fake family with it if they act out of turn or annoy him

super neat detail

alright what i dont like about this fight is nezuko (again)

mostly her unlocking her bda to turn the tide of the battle bc her mom was like “yo, wake up, your brother is going to be killed”

feels... forced ig

her bda in general is confusing and not consistent

man, i wish i could make a stronger argument for this but i do believe the problem stems from the fact that we dont ever know what nezuko is thinking, and what she thinks of tanjirou specifically

if she even cares for him as a sibling or if shes only going along with what her family is saying to her, things like that which would have been fixed if gotouge actually gave her thoughts some screen time

so the action feels pretty shallow

im also conflicted over tanjirou somehow remembering how dance of the fire god works

on one hand, hes using past information and applying it in the current setting so he doesnt die, which is understandable

but on the other hand, this was a teeny bit random?

i think what could have fixed this is if there was a scene in the beginning of the series where tanjirou was performing it himself, like practicing before he actually had to do it for new years

so that when the rui fight rolls around, it would have felt less like throwing dry spaghetti at a wall

but yeah

overall super good fight, giyuu ending up having to kill rui instead of tanjirou was super good in that tanjirou didnt become a pillar this early in the series and to show how strong giyuu is

there are some odd bits regarding the ultimate “beheading” of rui using nezuko and tanjirous supposed bonds but it doesnt kill the fight entirely so it deserves its pretty high score

VS ENMU

id say this fight is definitely overshadowed by the dream stuff prior to this but its pretty good in its own right

enmu fusing with the train was kinda confusing, like when was it established that demons could fuse with objects?

this worldbuilding element doesnt even appear again so yeah thats why it loses a point

how the kmbk gang end up defeating enmu is pretty sweet though, tanjirou using dance of the fire god to sever the neck bone was really nice and shows that him using the breathing style in the rui fight wasnt a one time thing

while kyojuro’s role was smaller in this part, the next part makes up for it so i cant complain

anyways ye, almost perfect score but its pretty good

VS AKAZA (MUGEN TRAIN)

this encounter is literally amazing okay?

after the crew kills the big bad, it seems like everything is fine

but plot twist, upper moon 3 appears out of nowhere

this is the first time the reader has seen an upper moon, let alone the 3rd/4th strongest demon in existence and the way gotouge handled this twist is fucking amazing

kyojuro’s death scene really shows just how human even the strongest pillars are against demons with incredible power

its just

amazing

VS OBI DEMON

this fight is admittedly super forgettable and not very interesting at least compared to the main fight with daki and gyutaro

but it wraps up the sub plot of the women and uzui’s wives going missing so it gets a perfect score for not messing that up

oh and it establishes the stretchy neck thing daki has going on which is very good

VS DAKI AND GYUTARO

love how this battle challenges tanjirou’s sympathy and kindness towards demons, just simply bc daki and gyutaro are horrible people

(too bad nothing came of this, which ill explain in the hantengu portion)

daki and gyutaro are very good villains and kept this fight super interesting from start to finish

uzui acting as a foil to gyutaro is nicely integrated and properly shown with how jealous gyutaro gets over seeing uzui’s perfect form and stature

tanjirou not only mixes forms but mixes breathing styles as well, which is so fucking awesome

(too bad it was only used like once throughout the entire series, its quite unfortunate)

the super high tension right after inosuke gets stabbed and tanjirou wakes up was expertly portrayed and handled, it felt like the kmbk gang and uzui were actually going to lose

super awesome

the tanjirou and gyutaro parallels are expertly portrayed, with how gyutaro taunts tanjirou over failing to protect his little sister, and the more visual thing where tanjirou imagined his own neck underneath his blade, that was super duper nice

the ending is extremely tense and emotionally gripping, gotouge did a really good job with that artistically too

the demon mark acquisition scene was surprisingly not frustrating, considering that it wasnt really explained prior to the battle

i do think it has to do with how it was explained later just exactly how they worked so its not just some random thing gotouge pulled out of their ass

so pretty good

what i dont like is nezuko and her full power demon form

first of all where the fuck did that come from? she just got angry and suddenly shes as powerful as an upper moon

her extremely quick regeneration makes no sense

her ability to manipulate her blood’s properties makes no sense

and it doesnt even appear again so what was the point of that existing

none of this is even explained later which annoys me

that one part where tanjirou sings a lullaby to her to calm her down was alright ig but nezuko in this fight makes me extremely irritated and frustrated

VS HANTENGU

did she somehow know that it was going to turn red if she burned it?

gotouge what the fuck, there is literally no reason why nezuko would do that and we cant even read her mind to see her thought process

remember when i said uzui is meant to be a foil to gyutaro in the rld fight? its pretty obvious that those two are opposites, it was nicely done

... what the hell does mitsuri’s insecurities about strength have to do with whatever the fuck hantengu has going on (which is basically nothing)?

so no meaningful connection between mitsuri and hantengu

theres no meaningful connection between tanjirou and hantengu other than tanjirou getting pissed off for like the second time

also tanjirou’s thing with being kind and sympathetic to demons was entirely dropped at this point

but instead of it leading up to a corruption arc of some sorts, it just doesnt

like honestly if something actually came of that anger he exhibited in this arc and from red light district from this point forward story-wise, i would have counted this as an amazing writing decision

but it literally doesnt so who cares

(god, i really start to hate what happened to his character after this )

and genya’s revealed motivation also doesnt fit at all with hantengu’s thing, he’s not a foil, not a parallel, nothing, there is nothing

tanjirou being the catharsis for development for mitsuri and muichirou, who he has only talked to like twice

theres definitely a better way to handle those two’s developments without his help

like gotouge, you have a big cast of characters, use them lol

which is just a shame bc its meant to be representative of how tanjirou and zenitsu are good pals but the way it was utilized is forgettable as hell

so the yoriichi stuff later didnt come out of absolute nowhere

genya and mitsuri’s unique fighting styles expand the kny worldbuilding just a little more which is always nice

tanjirou got a cool sword out of this which would have been cooler if him and yoriichi had a deeper connection that was actually explored

but we didnt get shit so whatever

other people getting demon marks being revealed here is also okay so that again, the final battle isnt filled with absolutely everyone getting their marks at once

demon marks have their own slew of problems but its not as bad as the fucking crimson sword shit

god i hate the crimson sword shit

VS GYOKKO

this fight suffers from the same lack of cohesive themes through characters like the hantengu battle bc the antagonist is given nothing

but its better

we havent actually seen mui fight before so theres no consistencies that the reader has to keep track of for now

and there arent like 10 characters in the fight so this fight gets a lot of points just for being a lot more coherent

i do like that this fight shows just how good mui is that he can defeat an upper moon by himself

mui’s backstory is neat

gyokko’s bda is very interesting too

... thats pretty much it lol

VS KAIGAKU

alright on to final battle arc

theres some good fights and then some really sucky ones, but this one was pretty incredible and very emotionally charged

theres a clear reason why zenitsu and kaigaku are battling each other (kai betrayed the corps and inadvertantly caused the only parental figure in zenitsu’s life to die, and zenitsu is rightfully pissed off about that)

the visual yin-yang symbolism is awesome too

zenitsu winning due to using the 7th form he created himself (which i have reason to believe was inspired by tanjirou) was the perfect ending to the fight, really couldnt ask for anything better and is a perfect example of how much of an effect tanjirou has had on zenitsu

the 7th form is what tanjirou’s waltz flash should have been lol

what keeps this fight from being absolutely perfect is lack of development prior to this conflict

(since the final battle arc is basically a culmination of all the hinted developments through the series, im going to actually factor in how much and how well these conflicts were foreshadowed)

anyways if we had actually seen zenitsu, kaigaku, and kuwajima actually interacting with each other and showing how they were essentially a family (not just through flashbacks), it would have made zenitsu placing the responsibility of killing kai onto himself a lot more tragic

but like, apart from brief flashbacks where zenitsu actually met kaigaku off screen and that one thing all the way back in natagumo where both kuwajima and kai were introduced, thats pretty much it in terms of thunder family development

so yeah its underdeveloped for sure

also one random thought, i personally think zenitsu should have gotten his demon mark in this fight, it would have been cool to see

VS AKAZA (INFINITY FORTRESS)

ill list the good things first how about that

this conflict was foreshadowed perfectly in mugen train, you bet the readers were expecting a tanjirou vs akaza battle after the death of kyojuro and gotouge delivered

akaza’s power is shown extremely well with how many close calls tanjirou and giyuu had while fighting him

akaza eventually giving up on his own volition was really nice and fit into the context of the battle very very well, like sure tanjirou and giyuu wouldnt understand why he gave up but us readers do know

akaza is a really good character and a good villain

now notice how im only mentioning akaza and not giyuu or tanjirou in the good aspects

bc those two are eh

no form mixing at all from either tanjirou and giyuu

i know i said form mixing was kind of tanjirou’s thing but you’d think giyuu would have gotten more creative with his moves once akaza said that he was getting predictable

(well he said he “ran out of water breathing forms” but same thing)

so its kinda bland lol

speaking of giyuu, his whole thing with his insecurities of being weak wasnt handled well (it was sort of immediately brushed off in pillar training, and its unclear what part of his character arc he was in)

like sure him announcing that he’s going to protect tanjirou is cool but it feels like he was haphazardly dropped into the tanjirou and akaza conflict

isnt he supposed to be both their foils? that wasnt really explored that well in this fight and theres no deep meaning behind him even being here just analyzing what he did in it

he could have been handled better or even given more focus is what im saying

the anatta state came out of nowhere, im sorry okay? just bc inosuke like barely hinted at not being able to sense grandma hisa bc she had no fighting spirit and tanjurou magically taught his son how to achieve this state doesnt mean it was properly integrated into the fight

if the anatta state was actually explored prior to this battle, i would have given it a pass but it just feels like a cheap and poorly developed trick to get around akaza’s technique development (which is overpowered as fuck might i add)

gotouge should have just given akaza a plausible weakness to his technique development instead, especially since they dont use or even mention the anatta state after this

the transparent world shit makes no sense but ill elaborate on that in the koku battle analysis

oh and this thing doesnt affect the score but why wasnt there a “yoriichi visage overlapping” moment when tanjirou was fighting akaza? hes an upper moon, he should have gotten those visions but he didnt

for some reason

anyways this battle was alright and has good set up but the middle and end parts didnt hold up as well bc random concepts were thrown at us without prior explanation or development

damn, such an amazing fight

the build up to this was properly foreshadowed

shinobu finally showing her true anger after hiding it for so long is amazing

douma is a super interesting character and fantastic villain

shinobu showing off her true power and determination against douma was sooooo nice

shinobu’s poisonous body plan is so clever and so interesting

if i was to rate the shinobu part of the fight alone, it would have gotten a 10/10 no question

the reason why its knocked down a point is because of the kanao and inosuke part

dont get me wrong, the way kanao is able to hold her own against douma by herself is pretty cool, how shes meant to parallel douma with their similar struggles surrounding human emotions and demonstrate how she has grown as a person, how she regains the ability to cry

that shit is cool, inosuke also getting in touch with his emotions after learning what happened to his mom was super neat as well

however

bc this battle takes place in the final arc with everything else, there wasnt proper build up regarding many things, the kotoha reveal especially

so inosuke feels kinda forced into the kanao shinobu and douma conflict, similar to how giyuu felt forced into the tanjirou and akaza conflict

its quite unfortunate bc if the kotoha stuff was actually explored prior to the confrontation, this “forced” feeling would have disappeared

i know some people have suggested that the douma fight should have just been its own arc, and i very much agree, it would have certainly helped fix this problem regarding inosuke and kotoha

last random thought, i wish shinobu, kanao, and inosuke got their demon marks

VS KOKUSHIBOU

this fight is... mediocre

at least theres a more tangible connection between muichirou and kokushibou

even though that was handled kinda poorly

tbh there really was no point to revealing that mui is koku’s descendant like at all, it just had no significant bearing to the plot of the fight

sanemi’s backstory being here is... okay ig?

idk the whole shinazugawa conflict has fundamental problems that i just cant think of any other place to put it without changing the entirety of canon

the marechi blood concept coming back was nice though

genya is there

him getting his bda was cool and helped turn the tide of the battle in a satisfying way (before kicking the bucket but thats not the focus here)

gyomei is a hollow husk of a character who barely got anything at all

but his fighting style is extremely cool and conveys his immense power very well

oh and him and sanemi are amazing at working together, like better than giyuu and tanjirou, and better than kanao and inosuke

theyre that good yet pretty much nobody acknowledges it which is sad

koku himself is pretty interesting and pretty tragic, very nice villain

but everyone together?

gonna be honest but this is such a random collection of characters, there was basically no foreshadowing that these four were going to go up again kokushibou, they are not that connected very well

i know there was this one post that focused on the theme of family that was common in all 5 characters in the fight but its just not enough

it would have been more cohesive if gotouge emphasized gyomei, mui, sanemi, and genya being like different aspects of yoriichi coming together to kill kokushibou hundreds of years after yoriichi failed to kill him

lmao its not like the 4 of them defeated koku with the power of family or friendship, they just smacked him over and over with a flail, shot him with magical bullets, and stabbed a crimson sword into his abdomen

wouldnt have been too hard to switch over to koku’s pov and go “damn these bitches are like my stupid brother”

i fucking hate the crimson sword concept oh my god can i complain about it now? im gonna complain about it now

unlike demon marks, the crimson blades werent even given any proper conditions, you just hold the stupid thing hard enough and it somehow imbues it with magical properties with no logic behind those properties

what part of crimson swords completely destroys a demon’s body in an instant? even muzan didnt go through that process when he was almost killed by yoriichi so where in the goddamn fuck did it come from

it could be explained bc the sword was left in the same spot for a long time but this tactic doesnt even appear again in a meaningful way (didnt kill muzan when tanjirou and giyuu held the sword together) so what the fuck was the point of having this even exist

its so underdeveloped and confusing and i hate it

the transparent world stuff is also confusing as shit and its pretty much never explained how they work aside from the vague “close your mind” advice, like why did it exist, it did nothing to help the present day demon slayers

its just so... poorly integrated

yeah anyways this is around the same rating as the akaza fight but a little worse bc there wasnt that strong set up beforehand

this fight shows the tragedy of kokushibou giving in to his envy and hatred, when yoriichi cries over seeing his own family commit terrible attrocities against the people he wanted to protect

and yoriichi dies, now carrying the fact that he couldnt even save his own brother from the influence of muzan on his conscious forever

what a sad ending for yoriichi

and after koku angrily slashes apart yoriichi’s corpse, having him find and keep the flute he gave to him when they were kids to the present day gives him a small shred of humanity in the midst of his monstrous anger

i have many complaints but ill try my best to not make this another hantengu rant section lol

first off, obanai deserved better

im serious, this poor dude was forgotten until pretty much the end when we finally get a backstory out of him

and then he died

what a waste of a potentially amazing character

mitsuri getting taken out early was ehhh

pretty sure someone else made a post about her supposedly being extremely strong but she was nerfed in this battle which i agree with

literally none of the pillars work together very well, like remember how i praised sanemi and gyomei for being super coordinated? lmao that doesnt exist anymore

you could say this is caused by desperation though and you wouldnt be wrong, its just boring to sit through

that causes issues bc this now basically requires the crimson sword and transparent world concepts to be there to spice things up

but in this fight, they do nothing in the long run (except for tanjirou using the crimson sword at the very very end)

youve already heard me talk about why those two things are super shittily integrated and i cant be bothered repeating myself so moving on

kanao, inosuke, and zenitsu

they... exist? they didnt do much tbh, which i guess is the point but like, now its boring again

nezuko could have been used as a potential way to raise the stakes and make things interesting again (like “ah shit, muzan might actually be unkillable if he gets nezuko but its okay bc shes not here- oh fuck shes here this is not good”)

but nothing came of her running off except confirmation that she became human again so whatever

uzui and shinjuro are useless, why werent they at the fight?

like they could have followed nezuko and contributed to the battle even a little but they just didnt and now theres literally no point to them appearing in this arc at all

while short, that’s just the nature of all of yoriichi’s battles with demons

anyways pretty nice, theres a clear reason why this battle exists (shows the scenario that made the original breather get super close to defeating muzan in detail)

adding tamayo here was a nice touch

my only complaint is that it seemed extremely coincidental that yoriichi somehow developed a breathing style specifically countering muzan’s multiple organs without even knowing prior that he had all those brains and hearts floating around freely in his body

like thats kind of ridiculous, even for yoriichi whos supposed to be “blessed by the gods”

i am aware its meant to parallel the beginning of the series but also its ridiculous how completely vague and rushed this entire thing was

nezuko doesnt do shit through not just this battle but this entire arc which i already explained so not gonna go into it further

kanao magically having a demon cure on her made very little sense

the scene where tanjirou leaves muzan in purgatory is pretty but if you look at it in the context of everything else, its ambiguous and confusing

(if someone could explain it and see how it connects to the original theme of “demons just being victims of circumstance,” i would love to hear it)

actually you know what makes me so mad about this “fight” as a whole? there was so much potential to do more with this concept

and im not talking about him escaping and nezuko becoming a demon slayer roleswap au (even though its a pretty cool concept)

him becoming a demon could have been a metaphor for his lost kindness and sympathy towards demons halfway through the series

it could have been a punishment for letting his anger towards muzan cloud his judgement

it could have symbolized literally anything about him losing his humanity as he got stronger

but those three things are just scenarios from my head, they dont exist in this series just based off of what weve seen from these two chapters

its disappointing

the only thing keeping this from getting a 0 is the one part where inosuke couldnt chop off tanjirou’s head bc he cared about him too much

that at least shows inosuke had grown as a character

everything else is just meaningless and convoluted garbage and “convoluted” is not what you should be aiming for if this is supposed to be the ending of your series

IN SUMMARY

early kny is very good, later kny is questionable and the ending is just a mess of wasted potential and disappointment

i get why gotouge had to have the transparent world ability, crimson blade ability, and the demon marks appear before they all appeared on yoriichi but theyre all just so underdeveloped and terribly handled in the battles they are used, it makes me want to kick a wall

So starting off: colors In the anime giorno has a mid pink-purpleish suit and fugo has a bright lime green suit. Direct complementaries on the color wheel. Now for the manga you can think of it two ways, a deep blue for giorno and a bright red for fugo, blue and red have often been seen as rival colors though they’re not opposite. Or you could take the bring orange as fugo’s true ‘manga’ colors and those would also be complimentary. I included the orange because 1: I like it 2: I saw someone on Twitter bring up how orange are his actual colors ackshually and while I disagree I won’t ignore that orange shows up a lot for fugo in illustrations. Next: their suit designs Giorno’s suit is based off of a school uniform, or at least it looks like it in the manga. It looks like an accessorized version of josuke’s suit which is already a modified Japanese school uniform. That aside it’s prominent feature is a heart shaped cut out right at his chest. Next it’s his ladybug broaches, wing emblems at his collar, and the little gold border that surrounds his heart (hehe golden heart) Fugo’s suit is Swiss cheesed. No collar and his coat only has 1 button done. In the early manga he also has a round cutout at his chest though the common design now excluded that. Much of fugo’s body is exposed through the holes all except for his chest, even when his suit had the hole at the chest his tie still covered it. Idk why he wears his tie under his suit nor what it means if it means anything. But basically all there is to fugo’s suit is the suit, strawberry tie, and belt. That’s really it, no ornaments like giorno. And since I mentioned it: the holes are perfectly cut, the same size, and not really placed randomly. The holes on his right sleeve match the left in terms of placement

Small one: anime giorno has light blue and gold for accents, anime fugo has deep red/pink and dark blue for accents. Not really present in the manga based off those colors anyways

Now for their hair: giorno has a nice and (usually) clean hair style that consists of 3 victory rolls in the front and a braid at the back. He went from black to blond as we all know

Fugo has (usually) 3 large spikey bangs over his face, sometimes in the form of an emo fringe no I refuse to let emo fringe go I love it so much and I’m mad it changed it to 3 bangs coming off his face. The back is a messy and choppy mullet really.

Interestingly enough giorno and fugo both have blue earrings in the anime. In the manga they both have gold earrings, though sometimes fugo has larger strawberry earrings rather than studs That’s it for design . Now for other parallels bc I think they’re neat. I’ll be combining anime, manga, and phf canon because I do what I want Fugo first to join. Giorno last to join. (Phf) fugo last to join Both are pretty smart giorno can read people fugo can. Giorno is neglected by his parents, fugo is overwhelmed by his parents. None, too much. Giorno’s emotions and rage are largely internalized and repressed while fugo’s are more explosive and people think it’s the only thing he does is be mad but that’s a different topic for a different day On a related note: giorno comes across as a creepy emotionless child , fugo as an angry violent bomb about to explode but really they’re both rather polite. Fugo immediately apologizes to Narancia after their fight where narancia was ready to stab fugo right in their intro. Giorno tries to get along with the team even if he’s new though is still pretty reserved because. He’s new. Lol Both of them are pretty close to narancia actually. Fugo brought him in and now is tutoring him through school, which fugo dropped out of college at age 13 because . Yeah. Very smart kid, studied law it seems like. Giorno was the first to defend and compliment narancia after the little feat arc and, as the manga made a point that giorno never cries only trembles, cries at the end for narancia. It hurts. And then the final scene of fugo added on in the anime is related to that scene. Fugo could kill giorno (and the rest of the team) at any given time. After the man in the mirror arc which introduces purple haze, giorno is immune to the virus and gains fugo’s respect Speaking of stands lol Purple haze. Gold experience. Purple and yellow are complimentary colors. Anime colors only since the manga isn’t much different Gold experience has purple accents, lady bugs, wings. The only really cloth-like part of it is 2 straps that gang off it’s waist which resemble pants dio has. Purple haze has yellow accents, spikes, stitches. Like, shorts and a cape. Gold experience has sort of a helmet with a swirly design , and purple ‘eyes’, it has no pupils. There’s lines that honestly resemble tear tracks running down it’s eyes Purple haze has actual eyes with yellow sclera, being protected with the visor of its helmet. It’s mouth is stitched though it still drools In general gold experience has a softer rounded design while purple haze has a sharper pointed design. Gold experience makes life, living organisms, purple haze makes a virus that quickly takes lives. And viruses aren’t considered living organisms by many scientists.

xtra stuff: - gold experience often poses in a showy manner, purple haze is slouched over and looks like it wants to hide - giorno’s favorite foods are chocolate and pudding, it’s safe to assume fugo likes strawberries. fugo’s first name is pannacotta which is like. pudding - giorno’s name is part of the phrase buon giorno, which means good morning, a greeting. fugo’s name means dismissing, to leave, goodbye.

i’m a furry. as a furry, i have drawn anthropomorphic animals wearing glasses/headphones. it CAN work. it just depends on the placement of these things.

i know in moomins, the glasses issue is addressed with the character snork, who has little straps around his ears that tie his glasses so they can rest without falling.

but also. it’s a fantasy thing. you don’t necessarily NEED logic behind why the catgirl’s glasses stay up!

and the headphones can work if you just place them behind the ears! heads got space on ‘em !!!!!

How did you come up with the idea for jade?

((**Oh,,, ooOOOHHHH— This may or may not be long, but I will try to sum it up as quick as possible, otherwise I might ramble too much,,))((**Lets see, first I’ll start off with how long I’ve had her- so, its 2019, and I made her in about the 2010-2012 span I think, idk, my memory tends to be spotty, but my point is that I’ve had her for a pretty long time at this point))((**Since her creation, she’s gone through some body changes, but she’s overall kept her black and white colors with golden-yellow eyes and a heart hole thats never changed shape or placement; she used to actually wear more than just pants, and used to not have her more animalistic legs- but it didnt take me too long before I decided to actually make her as animalistic as possible instead of just a monstrous humanoid with fluffy ears and a tail- which yes I cringe at a lot, but we’ve all had to start somewhere, right? And I wanted a more animal like body for her, which is why her legs are how they are now, because I just thought it’d suit her far far better than her old version–))((**If I’m going to be completely honest, and I’ve admitted this before at some point I think a long time ago- Jade’s very first version of herself came to mind and ended up being created because I had just found out about and got interested in the CreepyPasta fandom, and I had found a specific and very actually sorta popular Comic- PastaMonsters (by @/Comickit if you didn’t know which I’d be surprised if you didnt its an amazing comic go read it—))((**Basically that comic gave me the motivation and idea to create a Creepypasta monster character, so thats what I started with. Writing Request: Seung-Gil Lee has kept his eyes on Phichit Chulanont for years now. They're both about to hit 25 and at the GPF when he hears Leo de la Iglesia talk about how he's going to surprise his crush at the Four Continents Championship with a confession after his skate. Seung-Gil Lee immediately goes in to Defcon 1 mode and has precisely 10 weeks to both nail his programs and come up with a plan. ((Except he doesn't realize Leo meant GuangHong Ji.))

ELLA ILY IM SORRY THIS TOOK LIKE A MONTH

Seung Gil Lee is determined and his face is set into stone as he walks down the corridor with his hands shoved into his pockets. He recalls how at the Grand Prix Leo de la Iglesia was talking to Otabek Altin about how he was going to confess to his crush at Four Continents, which they would all be competing in. And then Phichit Chulanont had ran up to him, smiling as bright as the god damn sun, and Leo had turned red. 

Seung Gil was seeing red after that and had promptly turned around to head back onto the ice. He needed to practice if he was going to beat Leo, and if he was going to work up the nerve to confess to Phichit first.

Seung Gil had never seen himself as petty but hearing that Leo was going to confess to Phichit, who Seung Gil realized he had feelings for in that very moment, made his blood boil. 

Phichit was one of the friendliest skaters that Seung Gil knew, unfortunately. He always found his forwardness to be annoying and the way he had to talk to everybody repulsive. It reminded him a lot of Sara Crispino, the woman from Italy that he absolutely detested simply for the fact that she could not take no for an answer. He also didn’t like women much, but that was beside the fact. Phichit was always forcing Seung Gil out with them, Leo and Guang Hong Ji from China, whenever they were in the same competitions. Seung Gil was a wallflower by nature but Phichit made him interact.

He didn’t like that very much.

Until he realized that Phichit had had the same affect over somebody else. Then it was a problem.

Over the next ten weeks Seung Gil thought of nothing but his free and short programs, and Phichit. He thought of the way Phichit’s dark eyes shined with mirth no matter what he was talking about and the way he laughed with his entire body. He enjoyed how Phichit was so animated when he spoke even if he was in his face while he did so. Seung Gil loved the little hair on top of Phichit’s head that rose higher than the others. He couldn’t help but think of the way his skin compared to Phichit’s dark complexion as well.

It made him shiver and then he took off into a quadruple toe loop, landing it perfectly.

Up until five years ago, Seung Gil had been the only one to land the quadruple toe loop. And then Phichit (and JJ but Seung Gil did not compare about that egotistical asshole in the slightest) had gone and taken that title from him by using it in his free skate at his first Grand Prix. Seung Gil remembers the way he had felt a mixture of excitement, anxiety, and anger.

Excitement, because now he had real competition.

Anxiety, because his coach was going to yell at him and work him to death the next day (although he did this of his own fruition).

And anger, because he was no longer the only person who could land a quadruple toe loop; he was one of three.

Seung Gil huffs and shoves his headphones into his ears once more. He has to focus. But he can’t because Leo is passing by him, talking animatedly to Otabek Altin, who Seung Gil thought for sure had retired after the GPF but he guesses the gold there wasn’t enough. Seung Gil has no doubts that Leo is discussing how he’s going to confess to Leo and that just makes the Korean walk a little faster and with more force in his steps.

“Seung Gil~!” A voice sings behind him and he turns up his music louder to drown out the noise.

A strong arm loops around his neck and he glares into JJ’s face. “Aw, don’t be like that!”

“Off.” Seung Gil commands and when JJ doesn’t let go of him he shoves him off, proceeding to quicken his pace even more.

“Nobody likes a negative Nelly, Seung Gil! I just wanted to see how you….” JJ’s voice filters out as Seung Gil turns the corner. He needs to be alone so he can not psych himself out.

Seung Gil isn’t a planner. He doesn’t usually do things quite like this ahead of time. And by this, he means that he doesn’t confess to people. He stayed up late losing sleep in order to figure out how to be more charming than Leo de la Iglesia. 

He is positive that there is no way to be more charming than Leo, especially in order to impress Phichit.

He doesn’t really know what Phichit likes aside from hamsters and his friends. His social media is no help, as he is a menace and has hundreds of posts of various things. Including selfies he’s taken with the American skater.

Seung Gil realizes that the tightness in his chest is jealousy because maybe, just maybe, he too wants to take a selfie with Phichit. Phichit had never approached him about it, knowing how Asians could be with social media and spreading themselves. Phichit knew, at least, that Seung Gil is more reserved than the other skaters, much like Otabek Altin, who rarely uses social media. Seung Gil mostly uses his to post pictures of his dog.

Seung Gil decided over the course of 10 weeks that he is going to wing it. He is going to wing confessing to Phichit this… attraction, maybe obsession, that he has for him. When you spend all hours of the day thinking about somebody and skating for them, it’s more of an obsession.

Seung Gil spends about half a hour in this silent corridor before they are corralled onto the ice for practice. His practice time is the same time as Phichit’s (and Leo’s) and he tries to avoid him.

“Good luck today, Seung Gil!” Phichit calls as he skates back. Seung Gil just ducks his head to hide the blush creeping onto his cheeks. Phichit’s voice is light and filters around Seung Gil’s heart, tugging him in all the wrong directions. He almost crashes into Leo when thinking about Phichit.

“I’m so sorry!” Leo cries as he just barely misses him.

Seung Gil just scowls and skates off with renowned fervor. It feels like forever before it is time for them to skate. He doesn’t know whether or not Leo plans on confessing today after the short program or tomorrow after the free skate. Seung Gil feels as if he should do it today, but he is unsure.

Otabek skates first, then JJ, then Phichit. He is captivating on the ice, all the energy he has going into performing for every single person in the stands. Seung Gil feels as if he’s performing just for him as he stands off to the side slack jawed and in awe.

“Brilliant, right?” Leo asks beside him. Seung Gil hadn’t even heard him approach. 

Seung Gil doesn’t respond, just bends down to tie his skates. He doesn’t look at Leo again.

Leo and Phichit high five as they switch spots on the ice. Seung Gil can’t stand to watch and fiddles with his skates a bit more. It’s him next  and then it’s Guang Hong’s turn to skate. By the end of it, JJ is in first, Phichit in second, Otabek in third, Seung Gil in fourth, Leo in fifth and Guang Hong in sixth. 

Seung Gil is not happy with his placement. How is he supposed to impress Phichit if he can’t even get a higher score than him. His coach is going to comfort him but he just storms away, biting his tongue to stop himself from crying. He can’t deal with this right now.

“You were amazing.” Leo’s voice filters from one of the dead end hallways. It makes Seung Gil stop and his heart begin to pound. Leo had beaten him; he was going to confess first. 

“There’s something I need to tell you.” Leo goes on. “Please don’t interrupt I… I’ve been waiting a long time to say this.”

Seung Gil leans against the wall in defeat. There was no way he could beat Leo. He wasn’t charming enough nor was he fast enough.

“Aren’t they cute?” A voice whispers in Seung Gil’s ear. Seung Gil freezes. That voice… It wasn’t JJ’s this time, but.

Seung Gil looks over his shoulder into the grinning face of Phichit.

“I didn’t think you were the eavesdropping type, Seung Gil.” Phichit hums and then he looks around him into the hallway. Seung Gil looks too. And what he sees is definitely not Phichit and Leo. It’s Leo, rubbing the back of his neck and laughing nervously in front of Guang Hong Ji, who is cupping his mouth in surprise.

“It was only a matter of time.” Phichit clicks his tongue and shakes his head, beginning to walk away. “Young love!”

Phichit whistles and gives Seung Gil a wink before leaving him there. Seung Gil takes one last look at Leo and Guang Hong before rushing after him, grabbing onto the Thai skater’s wrist.

“Seung Gil?” 

“So… Leo, he….” Seung Gil casts his eyes to the other end of the hall. “It’s not you.”

Phichit blinks. “What?”

“He’s not… do you have any… interest in Leo?” Seung Gil grits out.

Phichit blinks again and then he giggles. “Hm? What’s this? You’re quite blunt, aren’t you?” Phichit runs his fingers through his hair and sighs. “I don’t.”

“But… he was supposed to…. I don’t understand.”

“I’m a little lost too here.”

“He didn’t confess to you?” Seung Gil finally asks.

“Um.” Phichit grins again. “As far as I know, he has never confessed to me. Only Guang Hong. Why? Jealous that he’s not confessing to you?”

“No!” Seung Gil glares and then he lets up when he sees the surprise on Phichit’s face. “I just…”

This is not how he wanted this to go. His mind is spinning and he doesn’t have any coherent thoughts in his mind. But he knows what he has to do now and it can’t wait until after the free skate. 

So, he steals a little trick from Leo’s book.

“I… liked your short program.” Seung Gil confesses, switching gears.

“Thank you!” Phichit smiles, unsuspecting. “Yours was really great too. There’s a story there. I can tell you worked hard.”

“I… did it for you.” Seung Gil mumbles. He looks down at his sneakers.

Phichit is silent for a moment and Seung Gil realizes he is still holding onto Phichit’s wrist. He lets go. 

“For me?”

“I wanted to impress you because… because….” Seung Gil furrows his thick eyebrows, trying to form the right thoughts. “I…”

Phichit covers his mouth and laughs again. “Are you trying to ask me out or something?”

Seung Gil turns his head and scowls. Phichit is making fun of him now, perfect.

He feels hot breath on his cheeks and his skin ignites as Phichit whispers in his ear. “Meet me at the Italian restaurant down the street from the hotel at seven tonight. You should get yourself together by then.” Then he kisses his cheek, just a peck, and is walking down the hall with a little spring in his step.

Seung Gil is left feeling confused and satisfied, because he thinks he has a date with the one he’s longed for for ten weeks and even before.

Mini Challenge #4 - Pokepaint

This week, our tremendous 10 got their PokePaint on! Which ones will be party-ready? Let’s find out!

Analyse Thropic | Goldeen

I was a part of the first wave of Pokémon hitting the US (fuck, I’m old), so between the card game, the anime, and the original Red and Blue games (ooo, and you best not forget Yellow), Gen I has always had a special place in my heart. I thought Goldeen was a great choice for a Pokémon to be dragified, because she’s just this gorgeous little fish and honestly, Goldeen already kind of looks like a drag queen. For this challenge, I took on the persona of Misty’s beloved Goldeen and adorned a tail fin shoulder-piece, some front fin earrings, and Goldeen’s signature horn. I finished off the look with a Cascade Badge necklace as an homage to the Cerulean Gym and water Pokémon in general.

Lila: HOLY SHIT. I’m shocked, honestly. This is giving me such a showgirl aesthetic and your accessories paired with your makeup really solidify this as one of the stronger looks in this mini challenge, if not, the winner. I’m honestly shocked at how well constructed this is and Goldeen is really coming through this concept so well. My only is to watch your lips as they’re the most prominent thing in your concept that are throwing me off. Overall, great submission!

Gluttoni: Ma'am! Miss Lady! You did not have to completely murder the competition like that! You look stunning Ana! I think this was a strong choice to do from the jump because Goldeen is pretty much a drag queen and I'm just floored by your execution of it. The silhouette of this is so pleasant and fucking incredibly smart! This is probably the cleanest paint I've seen from you yet and honestly that makes me so proud because I can tangibly see your growth. Gurl this was a stunt and if you keep pulling stuff like this out, I'm sure there will be a bright future for you.

Toni: I am really in love with this, I think you too the idea of transforming into the pokemon while still keeping it drag and really did wonders. I adore adore adore the headpiece and jewelry with this I think those were so well constructed!! I do wish on the top of your head had a bit more color to match the headpiece right behind it but over all very well done!!  

Avana Noir | Chandelure

Hello Judges! SO for this pokemon lewk I decided to choose chandelure since its one of my favorites! and it had an amazing design and color scheme. I originally had a big ass headpiece that i wanted to make for this look but due to personal and technical things it didn't work out. SOOO i made a simplier one instead. I used the color scheme of the pokemon in my makeup and For this headpiece I made it out of posterboard and painted it so it could look like chandelure's flame on my head. I really enjoyed this challenge and I hope you like my paint. Thank you so much!

Lila: I love it! For me, easily a makeup that you could take elements and use in your normal drag career. Your titties are starting to get that good contouring, and I’m not mad at the face. However, Chandelure’s ornate framing isn’t portrayed well in this. You’ve gone for a more stylistically delicate approach with how thin the ornate framing should be, whereas you could’ve created a carved facial feature out of how thick the lines are on the Ken Sugimori illustration. Also, blend ya titties and clavicle (Letha is that correct?) area out so that your makeup has a more polished look. Very good submission!

Gluttoni: I love how simplistic yet effective this look is Avana. I really like your subtle approach to this Pokémon eyes and other features because it's subdued but I'm still able to distinguish who you are. The styling of this look is great, you are giving mourning madam of the house which I think highlights this Pokémon's vibe very much. I would just advise you to avoid drawing on breast if you aren't going to go all out on them because that aspect looks rushed but otherwise great submission.

Toni: I was about to read you for filth over that dinky little head piece but you did it for me in your description. I really love this paint on you I think it was very well done and looks soft and well blended. I do wish that the head piece was bigger cause that would have really made this a LOOK or even if you had made a cage around your head I would have lived. Well done!

Daddie Dearest | Probopass

I took inspiration from Probopass. I wanted to intelligently incorporate the beard, and which Pokémon would better suit that? To achieve the look, I blackened my beard and put silver glitter in it to represent the iron filament beard that Probopass. I wanted to keep some drag elements in place such as the contour and some of the eye shapes while also portraying the character. The earrings are meant to represent my mini noses. Probopass is ready to magnet bomb the competition. - xoxo, daddie

Lila: I like this! It’s very true to you and you know how to paint very well! I love the nose, and the nice touches of detail like the little magnet bomb-totem earrings, the whites under the eyes and the little nose hairs as your beard work really well with this! I wish you didn’t wear eyebrows, then with the nose it could’ve been cut a little shorter and you could’ve pulled the hat down a little bit just so it was a much tighter concept really, but from this, great work this mini!

Gluttoni: Bearded Nosepass! I'm gagged! This choice is unbelievably smart and well done. I really think you have a beautiful flare for styling something just right beca I'm always astonished by your taste level. Your paint is always amazing so have nothing to critique there overall this is one of my favorite submissions from you to date Daddie.

Toni: “Don’t let your beard define you but use it to your advantage” Was a line of critique i gave you a few weeks ago and this is a perfect example of listening to that and I loved how you found a pokemon that you could make your beard work for you in!! I love the makeup itself it looks stunning and and so well blended so good job on that. I think my only complaint is that the nose may be a bit too big, but im not super pressed about it. Well done!!!

Ebony Boss | Cleffa

I chose Cleffa because she was very adorable  to me and also had a very simple look that i could really play with! I thought it would be fun to make her very quirky and sparkly! Hence the pink glitter all over the face and the big curly pink hair! I really had a lot of fun making a drag look out of something that isn't very typical drag queen. I feel i did a great job and really pushed myself this week <3 Ebony

Lila: For me, it’s your personal best. You look stunning in this makeup, I’m not gonna lie, but there are some elements still lacking. Your skin is more dewy than sparkly in this look, and your ears aren’t exactly the same colour as Cleffa’s. It could’ve benefitted from much larger ears than before. Your hair is stunning, I think you could benefit from doing more hair short and curly rather than straight, because it really accentuates your look. For me, very good submission this week!

Gluttoni: This is super adorable Ebony. I'm happy you switched your Pokémon because this one really suits you. This Pokémon isn't the most detailed but I think you nailed the cutesy vibe of this Pokémon. I'm starting to see some strides in your overall paint girl and I'm proud. Keep up the good work.

Toni: This has been your best paint to date, and I think its because in the minis you really take the time to sit down and enjoy the creativity of painting and I want you to start doing that in the mains. You took a somewhat boring looking pokemon and turned it into a drag pallet, i love that you made your hair work for you but really wish you had painted those ears because its painfully obvious that its just cardboard.

Klinker | Glalie

Lila: So, I don’t necessarily love this, nor do I hate it. Glalie’s eyes are a real strength to this and I feel as if you did some sort of makeup that had an illusion from the eyes, then this concept would be much more favourable. You have the colours down in your makeup, it just needs something extra. I think if you rolled your hair into two buns, that’d mimic the horns of Glalie, and while your nails are doing that, I think your hornage would be much better? Either way, good submission!

Gluttoni: Klinker! I love the choice this week as far as your Pokémon selection goes but I must admit this isn't a representation of your skill. First I think the styling of this look could have been better because the shirt tied around you isn't working for me and I would have liked to see the paint with more of a shoulders up appeal with points of interest. This Pokémon is very structured and I just don't think your placement and shapes really link up with the look you are trying to achieve. Really focus in on your lines and give us a clean look in the future my love.

Toni: Hey dear!! Lets start with the good for me this week, I really love those nails and I really like that you were able to use the color scheme that the pokemon gave you to it’s fullest capacity. I do feel that the lines were a bit messy and not super pigminted which really took away from the look, I also wish that you had styled your hair to look like the spikes of the pokemon. Good joB!

Lexi Lamour | Frosslass

Froslass lives in snowy areas and has the ability to freeze foes with its -58 degrees Fahrenheit breath. It is thought to display its victims secretly after freezing them. As evidenced in the anime, it can create illusions to manipulate others. Froslass is a female only species, and is said in legends to be the spirit of a woman who was lost in the mountains."

Hi, Judges! I had an hour to do this challenge so at first I struggled with what I wanted to do given my resources and that it was 5am. But then it clicked in my head instantly, Froslass! For one, Froslass is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE pokemon! Ghost and ice types are in my top 3 favorite types, so this gives me the best of both worlds! Froslass is an all female species pokemon and has some very feminine features in the eyes that I wanted to accentuate. As the mini post said, I didn't want to just paint Froslass' face on my face, so I have it a very drag element. I countoured all parts of my face using the pokemon's color scheme. I used many different purples in each area to give it some depth. I kept a feminine nature lip and also added some of the mouth design of the actual pokemon to give it some illusion and a sense of an avant garde look. I painted my hair white to match everything, and as much as I worked and tried to get it to spike up in the back to match the head, it wasn't working...but I still enjoy the effect of the white paint in my hair. The one thing I did leave out was painting the purple diamond in the middle of the forehead. I did that on purpose because I personally thought that with adding all of the contouring and drag elements it would've been too much, too much purple, and would've just made it look too busy. Not only that, but like stated....I know we don't just want to paint the pokemon on us and I had already incorporated the mouth design. I used construction paper and cut a design out to put together to make the head crystals which I spray adhesives to my head. Overall my goal was to make it look like Froslass, look drag, look out of the box, look avant garde, and give it a haunting feel. I'm super proud of what I did for my PokePaint.

Lila: I love this severity in your makeup here, the colours in your eye are really right and I love the avant garde-ness of this, really stellar. I do wish there was a little bit more to this concept, like some sort of sculpted accessory of sorts perhaps? I don’t know, it’s difficult to describe how I feel because I’ve got chills from how well executed it is, but then it’s like I wanna see more? Maybe a wire-backed piece of white cotton or something to mimic Frosslass’ hooded cloak? The technical ability with her hooded skull-blanket motif is so right in your piece too, I wish it was a little bit more mimicked of the harsh jagged edges that Ken Sugimori drew her with rather than the straight line that the concept has along the lip line, but either way, I’m not mad at this attempt. Very good submission!

Gluttoni: Lexi, I definitely see why you would picked this Pokémon. It's beautiful and graceful looking much like yourself. While I do think this is good makeup, I don't see it as great.  Your looks have been polished from the jump but I'm hoping to see more detailed makeup from you as we progress. It's just something a tad underwhelming about it. It's definitely a clean application and great facial concept but with your skills I just expect 100% from you at all times. That being said don't put any extra pressure on yourself because this is still very good. I just needed a little more Lexi charm to put this over the top for me.

Toni: Lexi dear I think your paint is a miss for me this week. I see the influences of the pokemon in the face but other than that it's lacking. I wish you had taken time to maybe find a way to work in the arms and body using paint or something because this just really doesn’t read as the pokemon at all and it took me a good while to see it all match up. Better luck in the main!

Marcella Fox | Manaphy

Hello judges :] My chosen Pokemon was Manaphy. I wanted a pokemon with interesting facial markings for a striking make-up, but I also wanted something that wouldn’t de-humanise the face too much. I thought it’s yellow eye rings would make great cut creases. I’m not usually a fan of wacky skin-colouring, but I felt it was crucial to be the same colour as the pokemon I was portraying. The water-based paint was really difficult to use, but I kept going until I was happy with the finish. I took the red jewel on it’s chest and turned it into some glossy metallic lips, and I made a wired hairband with fabric-covered styrofoam balls to replicate Manaphy’s crest thingy. I made some shoulder pads too, but they kind of chose not to stick, and rubbed off the paint… but I’m so happy with the face that I’m not even bothered about those :p

Lila: Your makeup is always so damn clean! I love it! With it, yours face is very, very draggy! I don’t care much for the bareness of your normal skin coming out, I’ll acknowledge that you tried to hide it, but honestly, with the flushing on your cheeks with the blush, it looks intentional and I’m not mad at it. It would’ve been better if you made those areas a little flush too! I think this makeup is so fun and I’m glad you chose this Manaphy to go off of. If anything to critique I would’ve had a more dramatically voluminous wig. Although, it’s also quite exciting to see you in blonde too! Great submission!

Gluttoni: Of course you chose a legendary Pokémon Marcella! Because you are well on your way to becoming a legend in the making. I think this look is super distinctive and well executed. The body paint is beautifully done and the accents are perfectly placed. I really don't have much to critique so I'll just say keep pushing qween!

Its fun, cute, and girly, everything that you are as a queen, and I really love that about you is that everything you submit is super marcella and always on your brand. Lila: Titties out, wings flapping, lips blue, who is this bitch? Love her! Hi Paps! I’m kind of confused and lost with this submission because there’s not much to go off of. The basics are there in your execution, but there’s not much going for this makeup really. I wish your hair was brushed out a little more and that you gave us more accessories, Swoobat has such a big heart honker and the fur, like I wish you added a few more elements to this just to make it cohesive, because I’m not really getting Swoobat through this. It was an okay submission.

Gluttoni: Paprika! You're adorable as always! But I don't have much to critique because this is just a bit overly simplistic for my taste. I was hoping for something more detailed like your week 2 look so I'm a tad disappointed. Push yourself henny.

Toni: Paps...this is cute but thats about it. I really feel like you could have done so much more with this pokemon or picked something with a more exciting look. Because honestly all you did was paint a heart on your nose. Its super lacking. I want you to start pushing yourself in makeup and design challenges because I know you have the creativity we saw it last week.

Phoebe St. Jefferson | Shiinotic

Hey Judges! This week I chose to do Shiinotic! With a Illuminating Pokemon I knew that I was going to have to glow, and after last week i sure was looking for a glow up. What I did was take apart this old ass jellyfish I made for halloween a long ass time ago, and turn it into this mushroom hat. I used tissue paper and I cut up some yellow balloons to give the mushroom its spots. The face of Shiinotic was really simple, so I gave a draggy transformation for it. The mouth was elongated and the eyes were cut like butter henny. I also did the whole phoebe tradition of having a great right eyebrow and a very subpar left one. For contour i tried to use a lot of yellows and pinks to make myself look more organic.  I really enjoy this submission because during the day I look cute and cuddley, and at night, the lights turn on and I look like a scary bitch. Ta Ta

Lila: W O W. Talk about execution, I’m in love with this! Your hat is so fucking avant garde and fits your pokemon so well, and your makeup is close to perfection in this that I’m shocked by it. For reference, when you do whiteout makeup, try to either conceal your neck or paint it entirely down, because your neck is hella pink as opposed to your face. I would’ve also darkened your contour a lot more, just to pop the dragginess a little more. Overall, really good submission!

Gluttoni: Phoebe, you really turnt it with this look! It's very striking and visually appealing which is the whole objective of this challenge. Since this Pokémon is super featureless I like the fact you tried to make it more expressive in the face. The styling of this is very psychedelic and makes me want some mushrooms of my own. I'm starting to see the fire in you and I hope it stays because I absolutely love this.

Toni: STUNTS, FLIPS,TRICKS, BITCHHHHHHH!! I  am in LOVEE with this look it’s everything to me because it was so clear what pokemon you were instantly but the head piece lit up and that drove it an extra fucking mile for me!! And i love that you took the pokemons face (because it was simple) and made it into an ooky spooky drag face!!! Well done!!!

Sugar Monroe | Primarina

Heyyyy!! So, this week was pokepaint and I was so fucking excited! I immediately knew I wanted to do a Gen7 Pokémon because: 1. It’s so new that it hasn’t been done before. And 2. This is by far my favorite generation of Pokémon to date. (With gen3 being a close second) The Pokémon I was inspired by was Primarina, the most beautiful Pokémon in existence. My trusty Diamond the primarina helped me through my first playthrough of moon so I had to pay homage to her!

Lila: I honestly don’t mind this at all. If anything it’s very coherent as far as your pokemon goes. I’m a little mad there’s no lashes if that, and i wish your contouring on your cheeks were a little bit more blended, as well as the end of your nose. Think slight flush, not literal clown nose, and that face would’ve been elevated. I love the pearls, using the rhinestones as your eyebrows, I’m cackling a little because it’s giving me Diamond and Pearl which I’ll be so done if you’re trying to reference the Sinnoh region. Anyways! Good submission!

Gluttoni: Sugar... I remember you telling the judges you took great pride in this challenge because your NOLA sisters have been the most frequent winners of these PokePaint challenges. Sadly, I don't see much pride here with your submission because this look is incredibly weak. Primarina is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing Pokémon to date but your rendition doesn't portray that fact. I applaud you for stepping out of your comfort zone and attempting something new but it's just a tad to muddled for my taste. You're incredibly talented some I'm honestly just waiting for it all to click for you and for you to start putting up a fight in the competition.

Toni: This is outside of your normal paint so i will give your points on that but I do wish you had done more more more! Even if you had taken an old cardboard box and painted it to add the headpiece it would have really added a lot to this look because it is a shoulders up look and we do look to see all of that.It was a nice makeup but felt very one note over all. Better look in the main!

We made this a Roadie Pig as a commission for the Junkrat, pictured very excitedly holdin their snorting friend ! He was about 65$ to make because the body is made with soft cuddle fabrics and the white lines are hand embroidered fleece strips, not to mention the pattern we made ourselves !

We made this shiney Mareep as a commission for a friend of a friend! With lots of love and painstaking patterning and handsewing, you could barely fit your arms completely around the big guy! This would be about 200$, because of the soft Sherpa fabric and the amount of time it takes to handsew all the individual puffs to the body!

We made this really big Space Sea Pancake with fancy fleece for a convention in Mobile Alabama ! Its bigger than it looks, I just unfortunately don’t have a picture of one right now ^~^; a plush like this one runs about 80$, on account of the amount of stuffing it absolutely devours and the large expanse of fabric it needs! But it features screw in eyes and is big enough to be a comfy pillow !

This pink strawberry milk pancake is custom made for our star raffle game ! It’s 35$ to order a custom cake like this, we can do lots of different styles, and I can pull up more pictures of different styles of Rays we’ve made !

This is all the flavors of our Macaroon Racoon keychains ! They come with a ball n chain in a loop on the top between the ears to let you hang them from bags or keys ! They’re super soft and ALSO feature screw in eyes, like the rest of our stuffed animals!

Pictured here are our Big Space Bunnies and our space manta rays ! They’re hand painted with glow in the dark paint and due to the fabric we use each one is unique in coloration and star placement ! The space rays are 28$, and the space bunnies are 35$ (as part of our raffle prize for The Lucky Star Game !)

Juliet is a gorgeous girl whose going to need a hero, a home and love but she also needs medical attention because she is suspected of having a GI foreign body that may need follow up care. Juliet is a petite girl with an adorable face and she lived in complete harmony with a small child, she was housetrained, affectionate and playful. Juliet has been dealt a bad hand by her callous former owners and needs a real family to step in and pick up where they left off. Noted to have chronic vomiting and diarrhea per owner. Initial abdominal radiographs on 11/11 concerning for fb (Abdomen rads - Intestines appear distended with heterogenous material). Since being in the shelter, no V/D witnessed. Repeat radiographs performed on 11/13 and sent out for interpretation. RADIOLOGY REPORT: ABDOMEN (November 13, 2018): Right lateral, left lateral, and ventrodorsal views are available for review (3 images). An additional study dated November 11, 2018 is available for comparison (7 images). FINDINGS: The included portion of the thorax is normal. Peritoneal and retroperitoneal serosal margins are well-visualized. The gastric axis is normal and the liver margin is sharp, suggesting normal liver size. The spleen is normal. Both kidneys are partially obscured by superimposition. There is no retroperitoneal mass-effect or mineralization. When compared with the prior study, there is marked reduction in the volume of small intestinal and gastric content. Small intestinal diameter is reduced. There is mild persistent granular soft tissue opaque material within the small intestine and there is a larger amount of feces in the descending colon. The urinary bladder is minimally distended and poorly visualized. The musculoskeletal structures are normal. No other abnormalities are appreciated. CONCLUSIONS: The appearance of the gastrointestinal content on the initial study is suggestive of foreign material, but there is no segmental dilation to suggest complete mechanical obstruction. In the more recent study (November 13, 2018), there is reduction in small intestinal and gastric content suggesting normal gastrointestinal motility. Gastroenteritis secondary to dietary indiscretion or inflammatory bowel disease seems to be the most likely cause of clinical signs. RECOMMENDATIONS: Medical management is appropriate if clinical signs recur. Biopsies would be required for definitive diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease. If clinical signs persist, abdominal ultrasonography or an upper GI contrast series is recommended, depending on which is more feasible for the patient's temperament. We recommend a period of decompression as well as time to acclimate at her own pace. Guidance from a professional trainer or behaviorist is highly advised as we cannot be certain of how her behavior may be outside of the care center.
