a little bit of backstory first: the dr ive been talking about is my home, and it's a bit complicated. anyway on to my dr!!!! my name's Chaos, and i'm immortal!! i usually look aroud 22-26 (so like early 20s) and have super fluffy black hair and gold eyes that i miss a lot. first of all, oh my gosh, I'm literally honoured hshshsh you tried to read my book??? gonna break down right here pleaseee thank you😭

okay I'll try to get to it as well as I can, I hope it'll help at least a bit. you can always message me or send more asks <3 under the cut because its long

making the character be good, have a personality that's actually theirs is probably the hardest thing in writing. it's a bit easier in fanfiction than original work because you see them acting on stage and you see the headcanons so you have a base for it, let's say. but it's still hard. id say there are three ways of approaching this. going off vibes, projection and careful scheming and planning.

going off vibes would be just "okay he does on stage that, so i think he'd act like that off stage", pretty simple, going mostly with your guts yk

projection can go a long way. two ways actually. you can write a character that similar to you or you can write a character that is something you're lacking. of course you can mix it all, but thats the best i can describe it. my rain is me, my dew is me, my swiss and mountain is what i wish i had. caeril is me, neithan is me, etc.

careful scheming and planning is also a good way but if done wrong the character is not gonna feel real, its gonna be dry and just fake. what i mean by that is finding a character sheet with physical characteristics as well as personality traits and thinking it all over, carefully planning what you want the character to be. i myself don't do that, it feels too... artificial for me. if used correctly, tho, it can really slay because then the character can be very well thought over

you gotta try different things, u dont have to write a big 10k word fic right away. you can if you want of course but id say start with one shots, make them your character sheets. do some character study, create them and then put them into a biger picture. it takes time and practice, as evereything

the thing with show dont tell is also a thing of practice. theres no rules as to what info you should keep and what is unneccessary. show dont tell doesnt mean just show, never tell. telling isn't wrong, but writing should put the reader's brain to work, they should be seeing what you saw when you were writing. the best way to do this is basing on the senses. when writing a sentence and you doubt if its necessarry, ask yourself "okay if i was a reader what does this sentence give me? does it give me anything? what senses does it influence? does it help me paint the scene in my brain?". gotta go with feeling and overtime youlll find the perfect balance between showing and telling descriptions and that'll be your style. i make my works pretty descriptive and easy to imagine for the readers because i started with tolkien. i aspired to be like him which is of course impossible but slivers of his writing style can be seen in mine. one of those slivers is rich descriptive imagery

pacing the stories is also really hard. main rule is to not make it boring, but how to achieve it? lmao its not that easy fr. if you do an oneshot you can keep a standard introduction-main part-conclusion structure. first paint the situation, paint the place where this is happening. main part should be the longest, this is what IS your work, the most important thing. conclusion can be slow and short. tell the reader how the main part of the text changed something from the introduction, just nicely close it out. of course you dont have to, we love open endings but this is the easiest thing, id say

with bigger fics, multichapter, go wild. introduction is important but you dont have to put in on the beginning. you can start mysteriously and explain what the fuck its about in te 3rd chapter or even at the very end. build some tension but also give the reader a moment to breathe. the longer the text the more possibilieties you have but overdoing it is not good either, plan it, sketch a storyline. as everything, its a thing of practice and finding your style

and doing all that never forget about the technical bits. good story that has a terrible formatting automatically becomes a worse story because its not nice to look at. learn the proper ways to format a dialogue, work on punctuation, dont forget to capitalize (says me without a single capitalized letter and the worst grammar punctuation and typos in this whole post lmao im trying to type it in quickly sorry). dont be afraid of clicking enter, make space. formatting can also be helful in building tension, short sentences do that. you can highight an information by putting the sentecne with it alone in a line. a lot of things, also style, but you still should keep to the actual rules. treat your work as something great, dont do it half assed. treat it like it'd be supposed to be published, yk?

they stand there awkwardly holding red solo cups for a minute. ok well shiho has a can of beer but akito has a red solo cup.

wait why. hes still 17. shiho simply does not bring up the fact she is also 17.

they begin to gossip. shihos never met arata and wants to know about iori's "dumb gay twin", in iori's words. (ignore that iori is also gay and dumb). akito only talks about arata in the sense that he is a massive fucking bastard

by this point he decides actually yeah i need a drink

he briefly mentions that souma gave toya sampling lessons (see: walk on and on) and he has to be at least partially greatful to arata for introducing the two bc yknow while toya is amazing (quick gay tangent. shiho turns into homophobic dog meme.) he wouldnt be as confident to become the groups offical composer if souma hadnt helped

then he asks how shiho knows iori anyway and shiho explains she works as a stand-in bassist at live houses pretty frequently (which akito didnt know bc he mostly frequents voice only live houses rather than those w/ live music) and got to know iori's band pretty well, though not as much mio bc she was standing in for mio. this became more frequent and shiho finds out that mio just up and quit the band because her and iori were going through a rough patch, and iori invited (read: demanded) shiho join, which she refused

akito asks how she knows saki and if theyre on speaking terms yet (he wants to collab he thinks this emo bassist is cool (read: he made a friend) (this is rare)) and shiho thinks they are? they met in middle school right before saki was in hospital but they drifted apart as soon as she got out because the friend that was holding them together (dont say commited suicide girlirpops. brain-mizuki stfu) ditched them. (thats not better girl. brain-mizuki stfu)

they talk about music (akito infodumps about radder) and decide yeah that collab would be cool. (ignore the fact that kohane and minori will faint on the spot.)

the two talk for a while longer, eventually conversations turn to akito complaining about his sister (ena we know her we love her). shiho tells him to be greatful that his sister is around and returns his calls. akito responds that is sounds like they have diffrent types of dysfunctional siblings, which gets a giggle out of her. (when was the last time she laughed, properly?)

mizuan turn up, shitfaced and covered in hickeys. akishiho grimace at each other and take their respective lesbian. b4 they leave, shiho just about works up the courage to grab akitos number under the guise of that potential collab (made a friend) and on the way back mumbles something about if you (mizuki) throw up in my bed again i am ditching you on the street.

"i cant tell you that either. i wish i could, hona, but-" honami sighed, setting down her knife, and sprinking thinly sliced spring onions over the two bowls of egg friend rice. it'd always been her go-to comfort food. and they talk. honami pokes about why shihos been avoiding her and it takes very little poking for shiho to come clean about it all (saki and ichika)

honami stared down at her bowl. she'd barely touched it. "go to bed, shiho." "are you sure? you look like you could use some company." "yeah. yeah, i'm sure." shiho squeezed her shoulder as she walked past, and honami waited until she heard the lights click off before practically sprinting to the sink, gripping it like a life support, staring at her reflection in the muddy water. (the sink, of course, was soaking a cast-iron pan that minori had managed to set on fire.)

well, this was her reflection. a girl who barely squeezed by as "chubby" and couldn't do anything right and who's grades plummeted the moment she tried to do anything else with her life who barely fucking graduated and is currently trying to keep it together and make ends meet with her failing band and her part-time job and her girlfriend (yet another thing wrong about her) that she didn't deserve and is now a murderer.

she wished she couldve been born right, or maybe just not been born at all, but she was here now and she had to stay positive. just until their big break.

'my name isnt sara' is an expirmental album of me exploring different techniques to try to produce a sound that lives on the line between human and inhuman. it doesnt quite work on its own yet but its a work in progress. i dont think im quite there yet in terms of what i want my sound to be so theres variation and inconsistency there. i know there's also some dubious sound editing going on thats a symptom of me fuckin around with different software. im a techie before a musical artist n shit like theory n composition is a bit beyond me atm but im tryin to learn by doing how to make a cool n unique sound.

beyond that tho, i do rely a lot on things like filters and adjustment tools n the like to bridge the gaps where im just not confident yet. i hope the more i practice the more confident ill get vocally.

eventually I wanna write a stage show n what im doing now is practice on my way to that goal. ill definitely be doing more research into distrokid n what its doing with mastering. I totally know how you feel! Fasting can be pretty hard for me too, especially because almost everyone in my life knows i have problems with food.

If you are just starting to fast i would start with small goals and work your way up. I started at about 14 hours, and then worked my way up to around 48. And remember sleeping at night counts! I like to start a fast later in the day so when i wake up the next morning i got a good chunk of hours done without even trying.

Distractions are also essential for me. I play a lot of videogames, and i picked up crocheting to keep my hands busy on down days when im just watching tv. Find things you like to do that keep your mind off it, and keeps your hands occupied so you dont feel the urge tor each for a snack or something. Reading, going for a walk, pick up a new hobby if you want! Theres loads to do to keep you distracted. Im making a sweater for my dad thats taking up a lot of my time :)

To curb hunger pangs, it can be hard to ignore for sure, my version of fasting isn't dry fasting or water fasting tho. I find those kinds incredibly difficult to do. I liquid fast with sugar free or zero calorie drinks. When im working i make sure to have a monster ultra zero sugar, and any combination of tea, water with a no calorie flavouring, or zero cal sodas, i like pepsi zero. Fizzy drinks can help trick the stomach into thinking its full because its bubbly. Drink lots of water too! The more water you drink the more full you feel. If you happen to like black coffee that works too, since its works as an appetite suppressant. It gets easier after the first night. Sometimes if its really bad I'll allow myself to chew some sugar free gum and that usually helps curb the hunger a bit too.

And of course if at any point you feel like you are going to pass out please PLEASE break your fast and eat something. Even a granola bar or something, to get your blood sugar levels up. The last thing you want is passing out from lack of food.

Excuses can be hard depending on your circumstances. I happen to work in food service so i often use the excuse i ate at work. If you are working or in school you can use the same excuse with people at home. And at work or school you can say you had a big breakfast at home or you are having a big dinner! If you aren't doing either, excuses can defs become even harder, but i find just saying im not really hungry at the moment tends to work fine w my boyfriend and family. Otherwise you can try:

Saying you feel a little nauseated and dont want to risk getting sick

You have a toothache

Your jaw is hurting for whatever reason

You are budgeting and cant afford to go out for food right now

Saying you want to try intermittent fasting for your health

If the people you are with are open minded for lack of a better word you could say your doing a x amount of days juice cleanse. My sister did one a while ago and everyone supported it, even though its essentially just liquid fasting for 3 days.

Or you could be straight up! Do a little research into the benefits of long term fasting! Then you can just say you are fasting for a while bc of all the good health benefits.

I hope this helps a little bit, and of course id prefer you to seek recovery options, but there are a lot of health benefits to fasting that i wholly support! And if you are going to fast id rather try to help you do it in a way that makes you feel accomplished for succeeding and in a healthy way. Take vitamins, and dont skip any medications you have. If they require to be taken with food then do that, dont put your health at risk taking medication without food :(

Hi! I have a couple of writing related questions. I was curious how you decide when a story is finished? Do you come up with the ending first or just go with it until it "feels right"? How do you motivate/discipline yourself to finish a story? Or do you not struggle with that so much? I'm having trouble structuring stories and finishing things. I find myself writing all the time, but it always ends up being little snippets or a couple thousand word scenes and I can't seem to fit them into an overall plot or story…? Does that make sense? I feel like I have like 18 different stories going on and sometimes there's like a bunch of scenes that could fit one story but I can't make them… Mesh. Also I can't just finish it off. I always feel like there's something missing or like I'm just not sure what the overall point of the story is so I don't know how or when to end it. Anyway, thinking about this made me curious what your general structure is. Do you start with a scene and then flesh out from there when starting a story? Or do you start by having an overall plot and writing based on an idea? Like do you block out your stories scenes/pacing etc first or just write in order, beginning to end or jump around from scene to scene and stick it together later? hello ! im so sorry for taking so so long to get to this, i would keep coming back to change or add something to say :)

I was curious how you decide when a story is finished? Do you come up with the ending first or just go with it until it "feels right"? ... I can't just finish it off. I always feel like there's something missing or like I'm just not sure what the overall point of the story is so I don't know how or when to end it. - this fluctuates from time to time; sometimes i feel like a story is done right when i write the last scene, and then i'll come back to it and add a whole other scene because it doesn't seem right . i try to consider if whether or not the entire story has come full circle, if it's satisfying and the ending is something worth having read the previous paragraphs for, if the last few lines are conclusive enough, or if it feels like something should be coming after it . i don't know a proper formula or fool-proof solution to this, its just a Feeling u get, but if u are at a complete loss, what i try to do is completely forget about it for a few days (at least five), and then come back and read the entire thing, editing Nothing, but only taking notes on what to fix, until u reach the end, where u, with a fresher perspective, can tell if the ending is right or not . sometimes, theres just no point to a story other than being written - if that's the case, then thats fine . writing is meant to be fun, if it feels incomplete, come back to it at a later time, don't look at it for a while . if u cant bear to do that, then maybe rewrite it completely - i've done this several times, rewriting thousands of words because something is just . missing . so i take the old work and rework it into something i like better, rewriting and removing and adding bits and pieces . try to spend some time away from the work, that helps me immensely !

another piece of advice from aaron sorkin is that sometimes when he finds a lull in his writing, he takes a shower - showers are great for getting ur imagination flowing :) something else i heard is to take the work and put it in a place not easily accessible, and then, after a few weeks, looking at it again . another version of this is putting it away and rewriting the entire thing from memory . ive done all three and they help as well :)

Or do you not struggle with that so much? - if u mean continuously working on a story til the end, then absolutely i do struggle with it !!! half the time its the sheer want to write that keeps me going, or if its a story so daunting i dont know how to write it, then i try to make it easier to write for, maybe telling myself ill stop writing after thirty minutes, or until i get a thousand words done, or just until i reach a scene that i really want to write . that, as well as just Forcing myself sometimes really helps, sometimes i just need to get myself to do it in order to the words to flow out properly. ill also admit that sometimes what gets me going is the idea of feedback, what people might think of it or even how satisfied i might feel from writing and finishing it . if u need a friend to cheer u on, or u need to post a bit or two on here to get that encouragement, then feel free . also implementing a "write for thirty mins/for five hundred words/etc." really helps too :) maybe giving urself a deadline as well, such as getting a certain amount done by a certain day

I feel like I have like 18 different stories going on and sometimes there's like a bunch of scenes that could fit one story but I can't make them… Mesh. - it does make sense :) i have a doc just called "cut" that is a series of scenes and snippets and phrases that arent related in the slighted - its only for the sake of putting the idea in my head out and onto the screen, which i might later use for a story i write at a different time if i find that it fits . u don't need to make all these separate scenes fit, sometimes they just aren't meant to . if u find urself writing eighteen different stories, and then only extensively working on a specific few, then i suggest combing some of these stories where they fit . if they don't, then go for the one u want to work on the most, the one that matches ur current writing mood . i know saying "work on which one uwant to work on" is pretty unhelpful, but theres no better solution . maybe asking someone else which one they'd like to read the most also helps, something i do :)

Does your process change depending on the story? - sometimes i do all of these . it does change depending on the story ! for some, i get a flash of a scene that i quickly write out, and, from there, an entire story is inspired in me and i start writing it as quickly as i can, and this changes from just writing down the parts i really want to implement or i feel are imperative in the work, or i finish the initial scene and begin from the start . other times, i have a plot in my mind and i start to write it, but never have i stuck with the initial plot - it always morphs into something else, and ive never resisted from that urge . one plot point will turn into five, and i have sticky notes i keep next to my bed and desk and in my bag and by the door whenever these ideas stick, or i get a sudden scene idea, which i quickly jot down, and, most of the time, i start jotting down quick outlines for the next few scenes . these are never detailed, especially on a sticky note, it's usually just (bike scene, diner scene, "insert quote i just thought of/want to include", etc.) . things like that . i also almost always jump around - i've never written anything in a linear manner, and i probably never will . sometimes the place u are in during the story is in such a lull u want a change of pace, and that's fine :) let that happen ! then u go back to the part u need to work on, and sometimes its even easier to tie two separate scenes together .

i can see afhiri being the type of person who fears absolutely nothing. i mean, i don't think they do fear anything, genuinely. this clown doesn't have that part of the brain that yells danger danger for them to experience fear in a base regard. they absolutely fear for their friends lives when they're hurt in combat, they fear gale's death, they fear very real and understandable things. but these things are also cured so quickly with a reassuring word because if loved one says there's no need to fear there's no need to fear! unusual though?

i can see them having stupid, illogical, weird one off fears, "what if you turn into a gnoll!" but instead this time i'll say my favourite thing about afhiri is that they've helped me bond with so many cool people who care about my ideas and creativity and i think thats really neat and deserves to be appreciated by speaking it into the world in a small moment of vulnerability
