GtN Allusions: Page 8

Cavalier Absolutely should have done cavalier on page 7, but just didn't think of it. Middle French for horseman or knight, from the Latin for horse. Also means not caring enough about something important, like burning alive for ten thousand years.

Centurions Ancient roman infantry commander of units consisting of 100 (duh) or 80 (times is hard) legionaries. The centurion was responsible for disciplining other soldiers and also civilians, which I think Judith and Marta were clearly All About. Centurions carried a sword at their left side and a dagger at the right side. Centurions sometimes became lictors (which we'll get back to). Roman centurions had to be at least 30, literate, and experienced, and were expected to be strong, dexterous, skilled, and lorge.

There is a biblical story in the gospels of Matthew and Luke about a centurion who asks Jesus to heal his sick boyfriend-slave. It is usually not translated as boyfriend or slave but I've heard pretty compelling tell that the original very clearly refers to a slave that is also boyfriend. Jesus heals the boyfriend, and later the centurion is present at the crucifixion and attests to Jesus's divinity and/or innocence. This is painful for Corona reasons and also Teacher reasons, imo.

There is also a centurion called Julius who helps Paul go to Rome in the book of Acts.

Judith Deuteros Judith means "praised" and/or "Jewish woman." Judith was a brave and beautiful woman who was pissed at people for not trusting G-d enough. She, trusting G-d a frankly legendary amount, prays a lot and then goes into the enemy camp with her maid and casually beheads the Assyrian leader Holofernes. She takes the head back to her people and the Assyrians are like WOW I'm gonna go, so she's saved the day.

There are many excellent paintings of Judith slaying Holofernes but I am partial to this one by Artemisia Gentileschi because these women are gonna do what needs to be done.

An English play about this by Howard Barker has a scene called "The Unforeseen Consequences of a Patriotic Act" and if that isn't putting it mildly.

Deuteros is greek for the second or the other of two. This is a really interesting name to give the heir of the second rather than the cavalier, who should be the second of two. I think this could speak to Judith's inappropriate feelings for Marta, or of her devotion to Jod.

Marta Dyas Marta is a name derived from Aramaic, meaning "lady." There was also a 547 AD Battle of Marta in Tunisia involving a guy called John but it's a stretch. I feel strongly that I'm missing something here.

Dyas has so many interesting false positives that cannot possibly be related and I'm going to share some of them for fun. Dyas is an oil and gas company. Dyas was an 11th century Indian King. Dyas is a surname used in England and Ireland (there have been a couple athletes with this name). Dyas is also just related to the Greek for two of the same, a pair.

The Procession A procession is when a bunch of people walk together in a ceremonial or formal way and what a weird nickname for your house.

Processions were part of major religious festivals in classical Greece and Rome, especially in the cult of Dionysus and in the ritual of Triumph. This got adopted into early Christian practice and processions became associated with ritual performances of the crucifixion and resurrection and with everyday mass and things like weddings and funerals. I mean frankly what doesn't have a procession these days!! Processions were part of what Luther was mad about, and Luther would probably hate the Third so that's valid.

Coronabeth Tridentarius Corona means crown or garland, from Latin. It can refer to the sun's outer atmosphere, the part that's brilliant and shiny. COVID is called a coronavirus because its spike proteins form a corona or halo around the body of the virus, resembling the sun.

Beth is a Kiss song from 1976 from the album Destroyer. Oh Beth, what can I do? It's also a common shortform of Elizabeth, famously the name of two English queens who did some pretty memorable queening. Beth El is a Hebrew phrase meaning "house of G-d" in which beth is a transformation of beit, home.

Tridents are three-pronged fishing spears; the name comes from latin "three teeth." They are associated with Poseidon/Neptune in classical mythology. Poseidon was associated with the sea, storms, springs (water), earthquakes, and horses; Neptune was also associated with heaven.

-ari is a Latin suffix that makes nouns into names.

-ius is a Latin suffix that makes something an adjective indicating that the thing being described is "made of" or "belongs to" the noun.

Together tridentarius seems to be a construction that does The Trident People Name. Which basically does what it says on the tin.

Ianthe Tridentarius Ianthe means "purple flower" in Greek.

Once upon a time in Greek and Roman mythology there was a boy named Iphis who was secretly assigned female at birth but raised as a boy. When Iphis his dad arranges a marriage between Iphis (who he doesn't know is secretly, classically trans) and a girl named Ianthe. Iphis is SO in love with Ianthe. Iphis's mom tries to delay the wedding, but eventually the wedding was going to happen, so Iphis and the mom go to a temple to Isis to pray for help. Iphis is miraculously transformed and marries Ianthe and they live happily ever after.

Tridentarius is still The Trident People Name.

Naberius Tern Naberius is a demon. He is a Marquess of Hell, commanding many legions of demons. Naberius has the body of a three-headed dog or bird. He's a bit of a fop and is super talented at rhetoric and the arts and sciences. He speaks quietly. This is my favorite picture of him.

Stuff I found about Naberius the demon said he's the same as Cerberus the three-headed hell dog but I don't think this association goes both ways.

I was real confused at first about how tern functions as a house name for Babs. A tern is a sea bird. There's a lot of them. But the name doesn't mean three. Here's a black tern. I think it's pretty.

Etymonline says the name of a tern comes from Old Norse for "maid-servant" but etymonline also saved me, because the entry for ternary (threefold) mentions that a tern or terne is a dice throw with three dice or a prize in a lottery with three winning numbers. Why isn't this in the entry for tern!? Babs as the prize seems to be happening for a lot of GtN, and Babs as a throw of three dice works for me on a poetic level. I'm into this.

Isaac Tettares Isaac is the biblical son of Abraham and Sarah. Abraham was supposed to be the father of a great nation, but his wife Sarah was infertile for many years. When Abraham is A HUNDRED YEARS OLD, after decades of not being able to have a child together, Sarah has Isaac. He is personally promised to them by G-d. I absolutely cannot overstate how wanted and loved this child was. Then G-d instructs Abraham to sacrifice Isaac in place of a lamb, as a test of faith. Abraham takes Isaac up to the place where the sacrifice is to take place. He puts his son on the alter, trussed up like a sacrificial lamb. He raises a knife over his head. And G-d is like wow. WOW. Do not. Can you imagine. Good job, absolutely but wow do not, yikes. Thank you <3 and then they just go on with the rest of their lives as father and son?? But Sarah immediately dies. Sometimes it's said that someone told her what happened carelessly and she was scared to death. If you would like to listen to a short and heart-wrenching song about the binding of Isaac and its emotional aftermath, I recommend this one.

Tettares is an Anglicization of the Attic Greek word for four.

Jeannemary Chatur A Google search for "Jeannemary" returns exclusively TLT related results and I think TM may have made this name herself.

Jeanne is a French given name equivalent to Joan/Jane/Jean in English, and rooted in the Hebrew name Yochanan (also the source of John!) meaning "G-d is Gracious." I suspect that the reference here is to Jeanne d'Arc, who believed in G-d the absolute most.

Mary refers to roughly 1/5 of women in the bible and half of all queens.

Chatur is a name derived from Sanskrit. I wasn't able to find reliable information on its etymology.

Abigail Pent Abigail is a Hebrew name referring to a father's joy. The biblical Abigail was a prophetess and the wife of King David. She was wise and is described as one of the most beautiful women ever (Isaac's mother Sarah is one of the others).

Pent is a prefix referring to the Greek for five.

Magnus Quinn Magnus is "great" in Latin. A bunch of kings of Norway and Sweden have been called Magnus. There are also SEVEN saints called Magnus. The Magnus effect in physics describes lift that affects a spinning object moving through fluid. I don't know which if any of these is a reference.

Quinn gives me a liiiiittle trouble as a house name. Quinn is an Irish surname that's usually Catholic with two Ns and Protestant if only one N. Quint refers to a fifth, and quin refers to quintuplets. I find Quinn a stretch.

Blood cancer, necromancy and physical ailments

This started as a reflection on the evergreen “but could John have healed Cytherea’s cancer?” and then it went off… somewhere else, namely necromancers being physically frail and what it means for the worldbuilding and thematically. Bear with me etc.

what do we know about the nature of Cytherea’s cancer?

Very little! We know it runs in the necromantic line of the Seventh, but we don’t actually know how house heirship is passed, so we don’t know if it only affects one / a few family lines or most of the House. Cytherea-as-Dulcie says that her family “wanted her to keep the genes going,” implying that the illness was rare outside her immediate family, but Dulcinea doesn’t seem to have been under the same pressure, from what little we know.

Another guess is that the Seventh hereditary cancer is tied to necromancy in some way, as it seems to only manifest in descendants who also exhibit necromantic attitude. If that’s the case, then it’s likely it is a strain of leukemia that manifested post-resurrection and didn’t exist before (like necromantic ability) and like necromancy, it can’t be studied properly – because the understanding of the illness barely evolved from Cytherea’s time to Dulcie.

why I don’t think John lied about not being able to heal Cytherea

A variety of reasons. The obvious one is that it would be pointless not to heal her, if he could. The Lyctors dismiss the theory that cancer makes a necromancer stronger (“Seventh House woo-woo,” cit. Augustine) and so does Palamedes, who studied it for years. I'm going to assume they're right. Then there are no benefits to John in keeping Cytherea ill, except watching her suffer, and this is deeply at odds with John’s entire shtick in which they’re all a happy family and he makes a point to personally serve everyone at dinner because he’s just some guy. John likes to think of himself as the good guy, even when he's being actively terrible, and there’s no way to spin ‘let someone live with cancer for millennia’ in a way that makes you look good to yourself.

Additionally: if he had lied, then it would have been with the knowledge that it would backfire horribly if it ever came out he had, and completely shatter for good the happy family act. Conversely, the Lyctors have had ten thousand years to consider their long list of grievances against John, and they all studied Cytherea's cancer to figure out how to help her when she joined them (per HtN) but don’t even seem to consider the possibility that John refused to help when he could have. Mercy, the ultimate anatomy savant, is so pissed off at John that she’s ready to kill him — I think if she had even vague suspicions it would have come out in that confrontation. The only reason it didn't, IMO, is because she knew how the illness worked better than we readers do and had reasons to confirm John's claims herself.

if John wasn’t able to heal Cytherea. Why? he’s God, etc

This is where I take a step back and look at the broader picture. Necromancers are frail. They are physically slight, have low endurance, and are physically weak. Judith is a decorated officer but she runs a 10 minutes km (a fast-paced walk) and Ianthe can barely hold up her arms to do her hair (probably an exaggeration by Corona, but not by much). These are also people who could kill someone at a distance with only moderate effort, but can’t turn that power inward to give their own bodies a boost. The same goes for the various reproductive issues we hear of in the series – Harrow’s parents, of course, but also Abigail and Magnus being unable to conceive even with all the resources of the Fifth.

It seems that necromancy can be turned against others – manipulating their bodies – with a lot more ease than it can be used to fix necromancers’ bodies, which have some level of ‘flawed by design’, probably related to the way their bodies process thanergy. There's no juicing up Judith’s lungs to make her run faster, and necromancy doesn’t make Abigail and Magnus's genes compatible for reproduction. IF the Seventh House cancer is tied to necromancy in some way, it seems plausible that it can’t be “suppressed” from the organism of a necromancer, because it’s just another facet of their abilities.

(That said, it all hinges on that big IF! My theory that it would make very little sense for John not to heal Cytherea if it was within his abilities IMO holds whether the cancer is tied to her power or not, but if it’s the second one then I can’t begin to guess why.)

the #THEME of it all

Look. I just think that “some things can't be fixed by necromancy if they are rooted in it” is pretty plausible as a worldbuilding detail (setting the limits of a magical system) and also it really resonates as a doylistic writing choice. Magic has a price, and so on. I just think it’s neat!

(And, again, I think it makes more sense as a framing for the characters’ actions, from how John likes to play the good guy to how Cytherea probably has some amount of control over the tumors in her body, post Lyctorhood, just as Lyctors have detailed control over every other cells in their organisms. There’s something about the way she decided to go on for millenia, “mostly cancer and a little bit woman” as a funeral monument to her lost humanity. I’m not eloquent enough to put it into words but I’m gonna link to these tags by @thewinterstale on this OP by @theriverbeyond. Big thoughts, big brains etc.)

IF cancer doesn’t make someone stronger, why do people think it does?

We know “thanergy boost at the moment of death” is a real thing. It is a leap that slowly dying for years = more power during your lifetime, but it’s not an unreasonable conclusion. What is odd is that we have multiple informed accounts that it doesn’t (Augustine, Palamedes) but the idea keeps being perpetuated.

(Ianthe seems to believe that it does, but fwiw this is not Ianthe’s area of study and I find it plausible that she’s just repeating something she has been told which, again, makes sense superficially)

Anyway. Cytherea knower @thewinterstale​ has suggested that maybe Cytherea herself is the reason why the Seventh House, to the present day, believes that cancer = power. She was incredibly talented despite the illness, so much that the Emperor summoned her specifically as the last disciple in his super-exclusive circle. And that was the last the Seventh House saw of her.

If the memory of Cytherea that lives on was that of an incredibly powerful necromancer, the miracle at Rhodes, cancer-ridden and so powerful… that’s enough fuel for a dangerous myth. Maybe, through the millennia, all the Seventh House hoped to achieve was to produce another Cytherea – suffering and all

I think I've talked before about me loving the trope of someone forced to wet the bed while awake and conscious because they are too unwell to get up on their own, but also: she's spent a year in and out of being possessed by the wrathful ghost of an eldritch being, PLUS all the regular horros of war and becoming a prisoner of said war. You can't tell me she doesn't have some bed-wetting nightmares every now and again. You also can't tell me that she wouldn't go near-catatonic with shame when she does.

10: Do they have a spouse or partner that diapers them because of their accidents? (alt: do they have a spouse or partner? How do they feel about Judith's bedwetting?)

Further doxxing myself but I will look God in the eye and walk backwards into piss hell: I'm a jodybeth truther. They have my entire heart. I feel Judith wants to be able to take care of herself and therefore insist on taking care of the changing and cleanup process herself, but she definitely needs a bit of encouragement to even consider going out and getting diapers for herself. Coronabeth probably broaches the subject a little less than gracefully, maybe after a public accident, maybe after the third or fourth time Judith wets the bed after a nightmare. Because Coronabeth is a literal Princess, you can not tell me that she ever had to change her own sheets even in dry circumstances before, so even if she wanted to help she'd be more in the way than any actual support, and Judith getting very snappy when she's embarrassed, I think it would be A Whole Thing for them, and an even bigger thing for Judith when she realises that Coronabeth is right and it can't go on like this. In total, Coronabeth makes way less of deal out of Judith's bedwetting than Judith does in her apocalyptic mortification, but she just doesn't want to have to deal with the mess or have to get up in the middle of the night.

As a little bonus, because they did share a living space for a lot of years and Judith did have a horrible, miserable, unwise puppy crush on her, here's a little bit of Marta as a treat: Even though she had her bladder under much better control in the pre-gtn days, every once in a while, like 3-5 times a year, she has a really bad night. Not often enough that she could justify using protection on a regular basis, since it happens infrequently enough that every time could feasibly be the last. She tries so hard not to wake Marta every time it happens, but being a cavalier Marta is a very light sleeper and cottons on to what's going on pretty quickly every single time.

Marta likes Judith a whole lot, sometimes despite herself. But she's just not a particularly nurturing person - she didn't even choose being a cavalier! She was canonically more-or-less pressganged into it by Judith's father! So they usually end up extremely awkwardly cleaning up side-by-side until Marta says something like "Why don't you head to the sonic, and I'll take care of the rest. All the sooner we'll be able to get back to sleep." She tries so hard not to embarrass her necromancer, but that's a task that's close to impossible.

They pointedly do not mention what happened in the morning, or ever.

Also, I genuinely believe that Johnny might have been planning on telling his family about the singing here (he comes back much later but seems still really hyped up like he was getting the confidence to do so) but didn't when he was given the role of getaway driver. Even if it was just for one job, it clearly made him feel way less seen as a person and like he was a disappointment for not fitting into the mold of who he thinks his father wants him to be (the queer metaphor is still going hard I see, lovely).

But the fact that Eddie's grandmother knows Buster? And a fair bit about his life? Eddie has definitely mentioned him and also Buster went to Eddie's graduation!! That's so sweet, you know he was one of those people who make huge posters of their loved ones faces and their degree.

Ok, we have arrived to the failed heist. Now personally, I would have just pretended to be sick so that Buster would have let me go without worrying about the show. That way my role in the show would be safe while I would also be out of debt, win-win. However, that's clearly not what happened here.

I stand with the fact that this could have been easily avoided but I do not solely blame Johnny here. He's a kid. Kids make mistakes all the time. He just made a mistake. Was it a bigger mistake than a lot of people's? Yes, but it was still a mistake. He is not at fault here.

As for the gang, smart move on their part to immediately surrender. That way they lessened their sentence by not resisting arrest. Also, Marcus looks genuinely worried when he realises Johnny is not there, and I completely understand that. He has no idea where his son is and there's police everywhere, he's bound to be panicked.

Rosita is amazing. I love her, she's so sweet.

Ok, genuinely forgot about Gunter and Rosita's fight at the dress rehearsals.

Ok, I feel like we missed a part of this conversation. We jump right to Marcus asking where Johnny was and looking pissed. I can almost guarantee that that conversation did not start like that. Marcus and Johnny are shown to be close, despite their communication issues. He's going to be upset, yes, but he's still gonna be worried about his kid. Marcus definitely asked if Johnny was ok or arrested or sick first.

Also, ouch. This scene hurts. The overall message of familiar rejection for you just trying to be yourself, of who you actually are is not good enough? It makes me sob every single time. This is just insanely painful.

(Yes, this is a central part of Johnny's story being queer coded and as someone who had a similar situation happen when I came out, I'm just saying it's very realistic).

Then the stealing bit afterwards being reference for pushing yourself into who others want you to be to feel love? And Johnny choosing even then it's better if he is his actual true self? Amazing, perfection, true cinema.

the first: judith! i hc her to be from medieval times so a bit before dracula and she was born a vampire instead of being turned, and while being like an either french or german medieval countess or duchess or some shit she had this fiancée who she was gonna marry in secret and was very good at making it look like she was just friends w her or some shit idk but then she died and judith was like absolutely pissed and before meeting dracula juat terrorized thr shit out of that town for centuries on end before she n dracula found the other two wives and they all just moved into a castle tohetger

the second: sybil! the brides canonically don’t have races (i think) so i just decided that sybil is black because i can 🎀 anyway she was born human in the italian renaissance towards the beginning of where it started and she was a painter but not really a famous one but was popular in tht town she lived and because she was a girl kisser she liked the paint women mlre and was wirh definitely a few (not a lot but a few) of the women she painted and therefore she has a lot of paintings of a few of them instead of just one and one day a man wanted hee to paint him and she was like “no sorry i’d rather not i only paint women” and cause she didn’t have a business and was painting on her own accord and whoever she wanted so basically she painted whoever she wanted and the guy she refused was a newly turned vampire so he (attempted) to kill her and it turned her into a girl kisser vampire instead and eventually she met judith and dracula and they all became besties

Thoughts on the Lysithea and Supreme Leader support in Houses?

I'm pretty sure this post is going to be spread around X thanks to someone lol

Anyways...

This is a really good support, depicting Supreme Leader's best traits, while also illustrating everything, say, faulty with Fodlan's writing, aka Lys never asking to Supreme Leader why the fuck her own dad, Ionius, sent his troops to Ordelia to wreck shit here.

Petra can have hard feelings towards Caspar for what Leopold did (at least Caspar thinks so), but no one can ever have any negative feelings, or voice them, against Supreme Leader for what Ionius did (and while those feelings would be unjustified, because children aren't responsible for what their parents did/do, with Supreme Leader, those feelings or even talking about what her dad did is completely ignored. Heck, if we didn't see him in Tru Piss, Ionius would be a non entity in FE16, like he is in Nopes lol).

Something I really like and is higlighted in this support : Supreme Leader's manipulation, by omission, to turn someone to her side.

We start with her refusing to reveal her hand, and the knowledge she has, to Lys, even when asked.

Lys tells her multiple times that yes, Supreme Leader must know about what happened to her, and Supreme Leader denies - even if, at the end of the first support, when Lys leaves, Supreme Leader mumbles to herself and wonders if what "he" told her was true regarding Lys's frail condition :

If what I heard about Lysithea is true... Hmm... I just don't know how much of it I should believe.

In JP it's more explicit about who she "heard about lysithea" from though :

あの男の言葉……どこまで 信じていいかはわからないけれど……。

That man's words? I doubt she's refering to Hubert here!

She still has doubts, but it's implied Thales (or Solon?) basically told her what happened to Lysithea, and Supreme Leader doubts his words but wants to find out if there were true or not.

In the B-Support, Lys grills her out about it - she reveals her backstory about the two crests, Supreme Leader plays coy, Lys has her angry portrait all along and Supreme Leader ends with :

Either way... I know now since you just told me. About your two Crests, your physical weakness, and your short life expectancy.

Sure, Lys basically confirms part of what Thales told her, and in the end, when Supreme Leader asks Lys if she also suffered "blood reconstruction surgery" and survived the ordeal, Lysithea confirms everything.

In the end, Supreme Leader had her suspicions and grilled Lysithea about them, without of course telling her that she had those suspicions because she is working with Thales/Solon, and one of them already told her what happened to Lysithea!

This line from Lysithea is hilarious though :

Given your rank, you certainly have access to all kinds of information that others do not. Clearly, you'd have heard all about me.

As pointed out above, even if Pat tried to lolcalised it, Supreme Leader doesn't know about Lysithea's ordeal because she is the Emperor of Adrestia, but because she is working with the persons who experimented on Lysithea, and said person basically told her what they did to her!

Not that Supreme Leader reveals it though :)

Instead, she leads the conversation in a way (talking about the common suffering they have endured) that Lysithea can only guess that Supreme Leader knows so much about the experiment she suffered because she was experimented on herself - never in a million years could Lys guess that the person who experimented on them is basically working with Supreme Leader, and told her all about what they did, and are still her allies to this day!

We end with the A support and the end of the support :

I ask because mine wasn't always this color. I lost all pigment after receiving my two Crests. Edelgard, I want a world where people like you and I are no longer victimized. I want you to bring that world into being.

Bar erasing Judith's existence from her mind, Lysithea basically suggests she and Supreme Leader were "victimised" because they were nobles and/or had crests.

But we know why Lysithea was experimented upon! Thales basically reveals it in WC :

Flamey : Those responsible for such gruesome deeds in Duscur and Enbarr. Thales : All so that you may acquire the strength you need. All for a purpose...

In the end, Supreme Leader feeds her the "lizard blood BaD" rhetoric, so Lys, again, can only guess "Lizard Blood" is the only reason why she was experimented upon, and not guess that she was a first draft for Supreme Leader made by people who are actually working with them right now to create a "Lizard free" world.

In the end, this support is a tragic one for Lysithea, who is manipulated from start to end to adopt and embrace Supreme Leader's views and ideals, by a Supreme Leader who plays her card well, not revealing everything she knows or doing the most "moral" thing one might do, like telling Lys she is working with the people who experimented on them - but she needs their power to defeat the evil lizard lady who is somehow worse.

Hubert reveals it to Billy in a cutscene and Supreme Leader's position regarding Agarthans and Nabateans - Billy accepts it, with the promise Agarthans are going to be terminated later on (they even participate in their Emile ending!) - but Supreme Leader cannot tell to another Agarthan victim the same thing Hubert does.

Is it about trust ? I don't think so, given how Hubert threatens Billy and tells them he will kill them the second they become "too lizard-y" for their new world - but Supreme Leader doesn't even offer this "truth" to a new recruit, instead she blinds her with cake, while making sure the new recruit will follow her goals, even if it means making a victim unwillingly side and work with their agressor.

In a way, you could say Hubert is more soft-hearted revealing the "truth" to Billy (even if he will slaughter them, again, if Billy embraces their lizardness), than Supreme Leader, who doesn't even give this "gift" to Lysithea, and instead keeps her in the dark, but at least fed with Enbarrian sweets.

The year 2023 will be a good year for Caryl,I honestly belive that.

I know it's hard sometimes to find the light in a sea of darkness,but we have so mutch to look forword too.

Back in September Melissa said this in an interview with EW

when asked about the possibility of more Peletier, a sly smile crosses McBride’s face. “I feel like Carol has more story to tell,” she responds before pausing. “I’ll leave it at that.” Another pause. “I think she’s got some more story.” Another sly grin.

Read between the lines of what Melissa said and did in this interview,she is basickly telling us Carol will be back but can't share any more details about it just yet.

Norman has foot in mouth syndrome,combined that with thin skin and a tendency to twist the truth sometimes. I do understand why he pisses of a lot of people,and it makes it harder for some fans to belive a word he says.

That being said,it doesn't mean that every time Norman opens his mouth he automatically lies.

Back In October at NYCC Norman said

I really love working with Melissa,like she's honestly (he paused as the audience cheered for Melissa)yeah you know there's been a lot of talk,chill it's gonne be fine.

I think a lot of us had the assumption Norman was talking about Carol and Daryl on the main show,so when we didn't get full cannon in the finale episode.It left fans feeling sad and disappointed,but to be honest i don't think Norman was talking about the finale episodes of the main show but more of the story that comes after for Carol and Daryl.

If you read between the lines of what he is saying,Norman is telling us Carol and Daryl will reunite in the Le Daryl spinoff.

I know that's not what we wanted,the promise was a Caryl spinoff with them as equals not Melissa showing up as a guest in his spinoff.

A lot of time has passed since the AMC announced statement,and even though there was tension between them back at SDCC. They where spotted laughing and jokeing with each other durring the commercials on the finale event,so that tells me things are good between them now.

We know Daryl doesn't get far on his solo journey before he gets taken,i'm assumeing it's by the CRM.He wakes up in Paris and tries to find his way back home.Norman said Judith last line to daryl "you deserve a happy ending too" is one thing that will carry over to the spinoff.I belive while Daryl is in France,he will realize and admit to himself Carol is his happy ending.

So how does Carol end up in Paris? I can see 3 different scenarios...

1. Carol also gets taken by the CRM around the same time Daryl does,since they don't get captured together.They don't know about the other one being captured,before they meet face to face in Paris. I belive Pamela is a part of the CRM,the 2 last people in Pamelas cell before the door closed was Carol and Daryl.Reasons as to why they get captured...

2. Carol orr someone from Alexandria finds Daryls bike,she knows something must have happen for him to leave his bike behind.Haveing Lance Hornsby old job,leads her to find different clues that points to destination 2 being a prison camp in Paris.Carol sets sail on a boat from Oceanside to find Daryl,maybe she brings with her some familier faces.

3. In the finale episode we saw Rick leave behind 2 clues to tell team family he was still alive,reasons why he smiled at the end.Michonne found the second clue with his bag that had his boots and phone,the first clue was the letter in a bottle.What if the bottle mail ends up at Oceanside,they give the letter to Carol.In the letter Rick gives the location of the prison camp in Paris where he was held hostage,as well as his last location before he was captured again.Carol organize a search party to go look for Rick,without knowing Daryl have also been captured by the same people.So when she arrives in Paris,she not only finds Rick and Michonne.She also finds Daryl, and maybe some other familier faces as well.

Cassady McClincy, Ross Marquand and Eleanor Matsuura was spotted in France around the same time Le Daryl spinoff started filming. Maybe it's just a coincidence,and they where all on separate vacations.Seth Gilliam also said he wished for father Gabriel to get hit in the head and wake up with a french accent,i took that as a way for Seth to say he wants to be in the spinoff.

We still don't know the official name of the spinoff,is it still a solo spinoff by Daryl orr have it now changed to a Caryl spinoff? If it changed to a Caryl spinoff,they might not want to announce it before they are done filming and they are ready to promote it.

Maybe the finale episode of Le Daryl leads to the Caryl spinoff,after Rick and Michonne are rescued they returne to Alexandria to be reunited with Judith and RJ. With Rick and Michonne back in the picture,Daryl and Carol no longer have the responsibility of looking after the Kids. They are free to travel the world together,and be each others happy ending. I wouldn't mind a honeymoon in New Mexico ❤❤❤

Maybe each season will focuse on a different City orr Country,with interesting new characters.If the show is a hit,maybe we will see Carol and Daryl haveing children of their own at some point 🙏

she'd been a concept of a character for 3 years before i named her officially, and it took AWHILE to get her name. nothing fit. i settled on jude because idk. it fit. there is zero meaning to it. her first name is judith because i like nicknames.

her middle name is virginia because i was really into knives out and the ending song sweet virginia by the rolling stones when i fleshed out her name.

her surname is blanchard after mindy blanchard of dishonored 2, to follow my trend of stealing surnames from media, but also because blanchard is an old term for a white horse, and that name does carry deep meaning - is earl whitehorse the white horse joseph talked of, or is it jude?? questions questions questions.

on that note her surname was almost havelock, after farley havelock of dishonored 1. like i said, my trend.

Zombie au?

THANK YOU FOR ASKING. This is the one I'm most excited about right now, although I am 100% sure I will never finish.

My absolute favorite fic of mine to re-read, and my number one comfort fic I have ever written, is The Door Begins to Crack. It's part of a larger series called Words and Not Deeds. Every fic in that series is a comfort fic for me; to me, it's probably the most romantic thing I've written, possibly because it is the most indulgent in the romance angle. There's not a lot of plot, just a lot of angst and falling in love, and then lots and lots of sex. I think the last fic in the series, The End Resting Only On Air, is quite possibly the closest thing I've written to domestic fluff (except that it's me, so it's not actually that fluffy.)

The hilarious part is that the fandom for this series is The Walking Dead.

It makes sense, in a way. TWD is a zombie show in which almost everyone dies; those who survive are constantly fighting tooth and nail for survival. In a show that dark, all you really want is for everyone to be okay and happy. Words and Not Deeds is just an idea of what could have happened to some of these people if the zombie apocalypse had never happened. If the ZA had never happened, they would have just gone about their lives--as a consequence, there's not really much plot to these stories; it's really just Rick and Daryl falling in love. This is why it's called Words and Not Deeds; they don't have the constant action in the show to keep them occupied; they actually have to work through their emotions and talk about things and live their lives.

I really, really wanted a comfort fic a while ago, so I reread the whole series, and sort of got obsessed with it again. Consequently, I sort of got obsessed with TWD again, which I never thought would happen. While I love the fics that I wrote, you naturally have some things that you get in canon that are missing from it. No one is a badass; no one is physically brave (though emotionally, Daryl has to become pretty brave, in a way). No one saves the day.

So then, in a twist that I find truly hilarious, I started imagining what would happen if the zombie apocalypse did happen, but within the world of this fic. It would need to take place before The End Resting Only on Air, I think, because I'm sorry, that fic is too happy and wonderful to mess up with zombies.

But if it went AU after the fifth fic of the series--you now have a lot of the main characters in a different configuration. Most interesting to me, you now have a very complicated family structure, with Daryl a father-figure to Sophia, but partner to Rick, who is still father to Carl and Judith, which means that Daryl has also become somewhat of a father to them, but Carl and Judith also have Shane and Lori. So now Carol and Daryl are connected by family to Shane and Lori, which just makes for a SUPER interesting combination.

I think one thing I enjoyed thinking about is Rick still taking charge of everything, and Lori going with it because she sees he has the right idea; meanwhile, Shane is pissed off because he thinks that since Lori is his wife, she should want to do things his way. I also enjoyed Rick doing something different to keep Shane on his side; now that Shane is a parent to his children, he needs the same kind of consideration and treatment as he would give to Lori, because it's important to Rick that his kids have their parents. Also, Michonne's son Andre could go to the same school as Judith, so when Daryl has to save Judith from zombies at the elementary school, he can save Andre too, and so now Michonne is with them; and in this universe, Daryl and Rick already know Herschel/Maggie/Beth, so they can all end up at the farm, and you can just recreate a lot of scenarios that are now completely different given the different family dynamics, and I enjoy that a lot.

I'm in a TWD mood right now because I just finished watching the first season of Daryl Dixon on Netflix. So I'm about to go full post on all my thoughts about this spinoff so far.

I loved the storyline of the guy at the trading post, how insane that turned out. The guy was dedicated, but foolish. Perhaps a little bit masochistic, so he ended up a walker. I loved the arena fighting they did with Daryl and their modified walkers. Harder to kill, but he gets the job done. Loved it even more when he threw the walker's head at Genet. Talk about pissing off a leader. I nearly screamed when Carol came in during that final scene. I haven't been following the show for a while, so I didn't know about this spinoff. I didn't even know about The Ones Who Live, so I didn't even watch that until just recently. Anyway...

I think it's sad, the way the season ends with Daryl having to make a choice. I know a lot of fans want him to go home, but I want him to stay with Issa and Laurent. imo, there's no way Daryl walks away. He knows Genet will be coming because he's not stupid. Laurent is a threat to her cause. They all are. Just listen to the crowd during the arena fight. They went from chanting pouvoir to chanting Dixon. Genet needs to kill them all, and Daryl knows she will find the nest because he knows she will question how they escaped Codron. I feel the stay is necessary, at least for now, to make sure Issa and Laurent survive Genet. Daryl has been training them on the wall, so I think he should continue that and help them through the war that's coming. And it is coming because Genet fully intends to torture it out of Codron.

Daryl would never give up on looking for Rick, but he also wouldn't give up on a child. And let's face it, Rick has been gone for like six years. Even though he'd never give up on looking, there's a loss of hope in six years. So yeah, I could see him taking this new path with Laurent. So my prediction is this... Daryl is gonna stay to help them through the war. Carol will likely arrive aroundabout, to the extent that she'll help fight the war alongside Daryl. But when he and Carol reunite, she's gonna tell him what she said over the radio when they cut out. "Rick is back." Because Rick is back home and safe with his family, I think Daryl's stay will end up permanent. I think he's gonna close out the show as a stepfather for the sake of not repeating history. And yeah... I think he and Issa will end up together. Issa got me to thinking about Leah, so I do believe it's possible. I think if Daryl stayed, Carol would stay too. I don't know why, but it makes sense to me for Daryl to stay. Perhaps because I think it's time he built his own family. Yeah, Rick and Judith and RJ, but what about Daryl having a wife and child of his own.... that's what I'm saying. Either staying, or taking Issa and Laurent to America. I just want him to have a famly of his own no matter where they choose to live.

Where they left off in the finale and where my head is at right now... I'm thinking Genet will get her hands on Carol, and she'll force Daryl to choose between her and Laurent. If that happens and there's no way out of it, I think Carol will sacrifice herself.... because of Henry. I don't know why fans trash talk Laurent. Kid was raised with a bunch of nuns, and they clearly never put a weapon in his hand because he's everything to them. Time with Daryl will shape him.

Chapter Four: Bitterblue

warnings: graphic horror violence, smut, strong language throughout, murder, panic attacks

summary: barbara decides on doing it with joe out of anger as they later get trapped together in a supply cabin.

Barbara stepped out the door and onto the wooden steps. She was also pissed off from the stressing situation from earlier involving Pamela. 

"You're okay. Just breathe." She told herself quietly, trying to calm her pinched nerves.

She reaches the bottom on the cabin stairs, staying silent for a few seconds.

“Miller!” A voice called.

William appeared in front of her, glaring at the older Miller sister. Barbara knew this was about Katherine and that she was definitely in trouble with her as she startled from his sudden appearance. 

“Where have you been? I’ve been looking all over. Your sister—” William stops as he begins sniffing the air around her. “Barbara Miller, that smell better be skunk.” 

She rolled her eyes, sighing in utter annoyance. 

“What about my sister?” She asked. 

Without hesitation, Barbara walked to Nurse Carter’s cabin, trying to figure out the right words to say to her younger sister. Finally making it into the cabin, she opened the door to find Elizabeth sitting on one of the medical beds, Nurse Carter across from her. They both looked at Barbara. 

“Hi, Nurse Carter.” Barbara greeted, sweetly as if she weren’t pissed off. 

“Hi, Barbarar.” 

The fire haired female rose, standing up from the bed, looking toward her sister, almost afraid. 

“Elizabeth,” Barbara said in a tense tone. 

Trailing behind the other female, Barbara tries mustering up the right words to say as the Miller sisters exit the cabin, and step down the few stairs outside. She grabs her sister's shoulder, making her turn to face her as Elizabeth rolls her eyes.

"Why are you in the nurse's cabin? What did you do?"

"I-- nothing,"

"Liz,"

"I was the one who punched Judith, okay? I was aiming for Sheila and accidentally hit her instead."

"Do you realize what would happen if you got kicked out of camp? Or worse -- getting in legal trouble if Judith does decide to press charges. You could go to jail. You hear me?"

"Loud and clear, ma'am."

"I'm serious,"

They keep walking and stay silent for a moment before Elizabeth breaks the now awkward silence. "Leave me alone."

"No. If you get kicked out, I do too. Mom can’t work and take care of us. Or Dad, who is god knows where at this point."

Elizabeth scoffs and rolls her eyes once more. Angry, apart of Barbara wanted her sister's eyes to get stuck, but the other part didn't want to think about her sister that way. Eventually though, she lets her sister go as she stood there, watching the youngest Miller trail the path beneath her, crossing her arms before leaving out of sight.

She shakes her head and sighs, turning and steps away. She wanders throughout the camp, wondering where her boyfriend went. Jennifer walked toward the mess hall, noticing Joe entering the one story building. She slipped through the cracked open door and surprises her boyfriend. He turns around and startles at her sudden appearance before smiling.

"I've decided on what you said last week whilst in the bus."

"And that is?"

"I want to do it."

"Okay, let's go. I guess that cleaning turned you on."

"No, just the anger turning into horniness. Jeez, I feel like one of your friends." She says, pinching the bridge of her nose.

Joe rests his hands on her waist, pulling her closer as her arms wrap around his neck. He brings Barbara's lips to his, beginning to move toward the empty kitchen. Joe closes and locks the door behind them, pulling away long enough for her to remove his shirt, coming back to his lips.

He lifts her up onto the counter, pulling at her shirt and peels it off her body as well as the rest of her clothes, doing the same to him. They are left in their underwear while Joe's lips trace down her body, leading to the top of her breasts while his hands snake around to Barbara's back, unhooking her bra. Once he entered her, Joe begins bucking his hips. She gasps before looking toward the entrance of the kitchen. No one has entered, so he quickens the pace as his hands rest on her hips, moaning softly into his lips. He pulls away.

"Keep quiet, or they'll hear us." He says softly.

Nodding, Barbara bites her bottom lip as she feels herself getting closer. Chills run down her spine as she rides her high, her hand grips the edge of the counter and grunting. Her body gets heavy immediately after, panting and wanting more, she looks him in the eyes as they stay there. Scurrying to pick up their clothes, Joe plants a kiss on her forehead. They quickly get dressed before stumbling out of the kitchen, grabbing supplies and beginning to clean as they act like nothing happened.

The day eventually bleeds into the late afternoon and somewhere else in Camp Redwing, an aged cabin sits. Inside, a male sits with an axe in his hand. He holds the tool where the blade faces his head, motioning that he is about to take his own life. But with a sudden snap of a twig, makes him whip his head around.

The sound of the cabin door opens, revealing another adult -- a woman who is also apart of camp, steps in the room as she sees the male figure crouched with an axe in hand. He rises, facing the woman as her bright look fades into fear.

The male pushes an armchair away. It slams against the wooden planks beneath whilst he makes his way towards the adult supervisor. The unnamed male grabs the female doctor, knocking her to the ground before lifting his axe, burying it deep in her neck. Her bone snaps like a broken stick, abandoning her lifeless body on the floor.

Trudging towards the entrance, he uses his leg and breaks the door open, stepping down each wooden step, wielding his large hatchet. He scurries into the treeline, treading deeper and deeper into the forest as he comes up on campers entering multiple cabins. He hides, examining each and every person closely while he sinks below the treeline, hiding.

His heavy breathing hitches, seeing the counselors before taking off.

Barbara and Joe finally got the mess hall cleaned up, and finally got the campers off to the main area of the camp, setting up for capture the flag. She sighs in relief as she looks over at her boyfriend. She gives him a quick smile before she heads off to her cabin as well, saying goodbye to him.

"I love you,"

"I love you too," He replies.

She saunters into her cabin, closing the door behind her. A sudden snap of a branch causes her to startle, whipping her head around and staring out the foggy window. Her breathing hitches in her throat, wondering who or what made that noise while you carefully step closer, over where your window sits. Barbara looks out, seeing a desolate forest as she sighs in relief then moves toward the entrance, and exits. She leaves behind a desolate cabin, going to supervise the campers and the game they are playing.

She looks up at the sky above, seeing the afternoon sky slowly form over camp redwing. Barbara searches for her boyfriend, noticing that he is nowhere to be found. Approaching William, she sighs.

"Have you seen Joe?"

"No, I haven't. Instead, of looking for your boyfriend, you should be supervising the campers."

"I will. But first, I need to make sure he's doing his job too."

"Okay. I haven't seen him. He is probably somewhere watching these shitheads."

"Uh-huh," She says, making a face at him before turning and walking away.

Eventually, Barbara finally found her boyfriend over by a cabin that is basically a supply closet for toys and outdoor activities, some boxes are even filled with birthday supplies from previous parties thrown a long time ago at the camp.

The one cabin is also known to have the entrance door get stuck, trapping many people in as someone has to help the people who get locked in a confined space. This time, without knowing, it would be Barbara and Joe. She follows her boyfriend in as she starts ranting about looking everywhere for him, almost getting in trouble by another counselor in the process.

In that moment, Barbara felt like an idiot as she made her way into the cabin. She shut the door behind her, forgetting almost immediately about it getting stuck.

Standing in the middle of the cabin, Barbara is still ranting. The two of them stop bickering as he goes to grab something and begin to exit when the door doesn't budge.

"What the hell?" He asks.

"Let me see," Barbara says as she walks over to the door and tries to rattle the knob.

She can't get the door to open as she can feel the heavy weight against her arms. She curses under her breath before leaving the door and standing in the middle of the "closet", having Joe join her in the process before rushing toward it, and using his shoulder against the door. With no progress, the two of them sit there awkwardly as the day slowly passes and soon eventually they get tired.

"How long have we been in here?"

"We just stepped in -- so a couple minutes."

"Darn,"

With a small table sitting against the wall and a window above, Barbara notices as she wonders if she could fit through. She pushes to table a little closer, carefully stepping on the wood before peering out the window. She is able to open it slightly, calling out as no one pays any attention to her cries of help. Her voice going unnoticed amongst the campers. Barbara calls out for her sister, however, no one calls back as she begins to lose hope and patience.

"Barbara, no one is gonna come get us. We're stuck until someone realizes that we are gone." He states, craning his neck.

"No, there -- there has to be someone who can help. You know I hate confined spaces."

Tears threat to spill from Barbara's eyes. The anxiety is slowly building up in her system as sweat forms under her hairline. Her breathing hitches, getting stuck in her throat as the humidity makes it harder to breathe. Her hands shook. Her body got weaker with each passing second. Joe helps her off the table, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.

"Barb-- Barbara, hey, it's okay. Just breathe. Slow and easy."

She listened, taking in his words and trying to calm down. Eventually gaining the courage to breathe, taking in Joe's words and breathing comes down to normal. Nevertheless, the sweat is still sitting there as she stood in her place, breathing calmly.

Soon enough, a tear stained barbara was standing beside Joe. It's been god knows how long since the two of them got stuck, making her sigh while shuffling in her spot. Joe leans against the wall and sighs, trying not to swear out loud but it slips out.

"Jesus. Why isn't anyone coming to rescue us? Surely, someone must know that we're gone. we're counselors, someone should know."

"Joseph, just calm-- calm down, please? It'll be okay."

"How is any of this okay? I didn't expect us to be trapped in some goddamn cabin. I should've held the door open, or propped it on a rock nearby."

"Don't beat yourself up. Some mean camper would probably move the rock, and lock us in anyway. So either choice will lead us to the same scene."

"I guess,"

"Let's think, maybe something here can push the door open if we use our strength."

"I don't know, Barb."

"Can we at least try?" She suggests, folding her arms against her chest.
