Hello! Hope you're having a great day/night! I absolutely adore your art, you are one of my favourite artists. I love the way you shade and do backrounds. Also everytime I get into a new show I immediately see your art for it??
I was wondering if you had any advice on drawing more realistically (backrounds, anatomy etc) but still keeping a style?
Hey hey!
Thank you so much!
I have a pretty good understanding of facial structures, because before I got into drawing more semi-realisticly, I heavily focused on realistic portraits. Here are some example, these are from around 2019!
(yes, I was really into danmei and kpop back then, haha)
I just always loved drawing/painting faces and it was all I did. But at some point I realized that I wanted to do more than that because just portraits felt super restricting. So it took me around 2-3 years to somewhat find my style. Thought it would be fun to show a little timeline! Advice will follow afterwards :)
2020
I began working on my OCs in 2020 and since I didn't have an exact reference to work off of, I struggled a lot. My art from this year is super wonky.
2021
Still wonky, but the Lokius obsession was the jumpstart into finding my style! My work from this year is all over the place haha, I was experimenting a lot.
2022
This first ofmd piece is pretty much the first drawing where you can see where my style is gonna go, which I think is pretty cool! This is the year I made the biggest progress cos I was drawing SO much. These two pieces are only six months apart. The one on the right was the first time I gave drawing a background a proper go, too! It was a good year.
2023
And this is where I am now! I'm still constantly learning and improving, but I'd say I have a style you can recognize now!
Now here comes some actual advice, haha:
What I highly recommend you to do is to study your favorite artists as much as you can! I have like 5 A4 sketchbooks all from 2020 that I filled with sooooo many studies, where basically all I did was look at artists I like and copy how they draw stuff, to try and figure out how to stylize certain things. Some of my favorite artists are Ami Thompson, Velinxi and TB Choi. But I also liked to just scroll through pinterest and study all the art I came across that I liked! For example, if I saw a really great drawing of a pair of pants I would copy it many times in my sketchbook and try to learn how they stylized the folds. Doing this for a prolongued period of time will naturally improve your own work! It'll be difficult at first, but you gotta push through, it's gonna be worth it!
I also highly recommend studying unique faces to try and avoid the same-face syndrome. Find some cool looking people and try to draw them as simple as you can! Maybe even draw a little timeline where you first draw them as cartoon-y as you can, and keep going until you end up with a more detailed, realistic drawing. Maybe in the middle of it you find a step that feels the most fun to you, so you can try to build on that! It's a great way to figure out what kind of style might be the best for you.
Here are some cool faces I found on pinterest!
I have a pinterest board with many more!
One REALLY important part of learning how to draw all kinds of things is to understand forms and shapes and how to manipulate them. I have so many pages in my sketchbook filled with just shapes that I drew from all kinds of angles without any references.
This is a great video on it:
6 Ways to Draw Anything by Proko
Learning how to do this is so crucial! Young artists often think they first have to learn all kinds of detailed anatomy before doing anything else, but all that's gonna do is make you tired and hate drawing. Shapes are where it's at! Once you understand how shapes work and which ones to use for certain parts of bodies or objects, drawing is gonna get so much easier! Once you understand them, you can get into details such as muscles and bones!
And honestly the most important point is to just absolutely love what you're doing! I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for the fact that I get extreme hyperfixations on certain media that turn me into some kind of beast where I can suddenly draw 10 detailed illustrations a week, haha. Just be passionate about what you do, find something you REALLY love and go crazy!
I really hope this was somewhat helpful! My inbox is always open if there's any more questions :)
#responding to these has made me realize how much I love helping you guys out#it's genuinely really fun and I just hope it's actually helpful haha#my art#art advice#art resources#ask#anon

The Verdict- Chapter Two
Pairing: Vincent Renzi x OFC
Warnings: mentions of death, awkward OC, itâs pretty mild at this point. if youâve seen Anatomy of a Fall, you basically know whatâs about to happen.
A/N: if youâre back for chapter two, welcome back. Swann Arlaud at the Oscars actually recoded my DNA. imagine writing 11 whole chapters and then literally going back and completely re-writing them- thatâs what Iâve been doing with this story. I wonât be following along word for word with the plot of the movie, nor will I be recounting everything perfectly. I tried that (Iâve watched Anatomy literally 4 times to the point that I actually dreamt in French one night) also huge shoutout to my friend @luxlisbons for her support and a huge shoutout to the dictionary and thesaurus that have basically become my Bible. also if you want to be tagged when I post the upcoming chapters, just let me know.
Vincent glanced across the office space to find Leah seated on the floor, surrounded by a chaotic array of case files. She appeared lost in thought, her brow furrowed in concentration.
"You're quiet," Vincent remarked, making his way over to her.
Leah looked up, a hint of frustration evident in her eyes. "Would be nice if I could speak French. It's taking double the time when I have to translate all this."
Vincent reached out and took the report from her hands, flipping it over to reveal a series of photos on the back. "There are pictures on the back, you know?" he pointed out. "This autopsy report is inconclusive at this point. He supposedly fell from the third floor window."
Leah, feeling a glimmer of hope, asked, "Have you interviewed her yet?"
Vincent nodded. "I went to see her the day before you arrived."
"And?" Leah inquired, hoping for a breakthrough.
Vincent's expression remained somber. "A man is dead," he stated matter-of-factly. "Was that lost in translation?"
Leah shook her head, the weight of the case pressing down on her shoulders. She returned to the pile of files before her, determined to unravel the mystery that lay within.
________________________________________
âDo you eat?â Vincentâs voice rang out, startling Leah from her place on the floor. She chuckled, her concentration finally broken after hours of sifting through each piece of evidence Vincent had presented her with.
âSometimes I do,â she joked, standing to stretch, her shirt riding up enough for Vincent to see a stripe of her stomach.
âDo you plan on eating today?â Vincent asked, perplexed by how she must be running on fumes considering the time she had spent unmoving.
Leahâs eyebrows shot up in mock surprise. âProbably should,â she sighed. âIâm starving.â
With a grin, Vincent guided her to a cafe across the road and down the street. Over a course of croque monsieur and a few cups of coffee, the two lawyers exchanged glances and subtle smiles.
âYouâre quiet again,â Vincent's voice broke through the silence, his eyes studying Leah's thoughtful expression as she gazed out the window.
Leahâs lips curved into a small smile. âSorry,â she said, her fingers absently tapping on the table.
âLost in translation again?â he joked, a playful glint in his eyes.
Leah shook her head, her gaze returning to meet his. âNo, just lost in general. Jet-lagged,â she admitted with a tired laugh.
âSo, you passed the Bar on your first try?â Vincent asked, leaning back in his chair, his curiosity evident.
Leah nodded, a proud glint in her eyes. âI did, yeah,â she replied, a hint of satisfaction in her voice. âHow does that work here? Whatâs the process of becoming a lawyer?â
âLaw students sit for the Bar exam at the end of a Master's degree,â Vincent explained, gesturing with his hands to emphasize his point.
Leah nodded thoughtfully, absorbing the information. âSo weâre not that different,â she mused, a small smile playing on her lips.
Vincent chuckled softly. âAs far as having things in common, you and I have both passed the Bar exam, yes,â he agreed.
Leah shifted in her seat, fidgeting with a napkin. âIâm not good at this,â she gestured between the two of them, âtalking about myself.â
Vincentâs laughter filled the air between them. âThatâs okay,â he reassured her with a nod.
Suddenly, the cafe grew busier, the hum of conversation surrounding them. Vincent noticed the change and turned his attention back to Leah.
âWhere are you staying?â he asked, his tone gentle and curious.
Leah met his gaze, a hint of gratitude in her eyes. âUh, Saint Germain?â she replied, blushing embarrassingly at her American way of pronouncing the name.
Vincent nodded, his expression unchanging. âDo you want me to walk you home so you can get some sleep?â he offered, his sincerity evident.
Leah's eyes widened in surprise, touched by his kindness. âYou donât mind?â she asked, a softness in her voice.
Vincent shook his head, âI wouldnât have offered if I didnât want to,â he said, his eyes meeting hers with warmth and understanding.
________________________________________
Leah glanced at the phone resting on the bed amidst a pile of discarded shirts, her brow furrowed. "Itâs awkward," she began, her voice tinged with uncertainty, "I mean, it's not a language barrier issue because he speaks English well. But yesterday at lunch, he was trying to make conversation, and I was completely lost in my own thoughts. The whole interaction felt off, and now I have to endure hours in a car with him to go meet the defendant and her son in the middle of nowhere."
A voice emanated from the phone, cutting through Leah's musings. "Maybe it's just your awkward charm," it teased, provoking a scoff from Leah. "I'm not awkward, Kate. I'm just observant. There's a lot to be learned by listening, you know?"
As Leah slipped into a long-sleeved top and checked her reflection in the mirror behind the bedroom door, she heard Kate's next question. "Is he good looking?" Leah chuckled softly, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Yes, he is."
Kate's curiosity didn't stop there. "Do you think she's guilty?" Leah pondered the question, her gaze drifting to the phone in her hand as she mulled over the case details. "I'm not certain," she replied thoughtfully, "but given my track record with men, it's hard to distinguish between genuine intentions and hidden motives."
The abrupt sound of the doorbell pierced through the apartment, causing Leah to startle. "And now he's here to pick me up," she muttered, a mix of anticipation and apprehension swirling in her gut. "I'll fill you in on everything tomorrow," she promised before ending the call.
_________________________________________
The journey from the vibrant heart of Paris to the serene, imposing presence of the French Alps served as a physical and metaphorical transition for Vincent and Leah. As they navigated the winding mountain roads, Leah's gaze was drawn to the changing landscape, her mind a whirlwind of anticipation and uncertainty about the case and her role in it.
Vincent, for his part, found his attention intermittently captured by Leah when he allowed himself to take the seat of the neutral observerâher dark brown hair reflecting the sunlight, her compact, curvy figure a stark contrast to the sprawling, rugged beauty outside the car window. It was an awareness he couldn't quite shake, an acknowledgment of her beauty and the energy she brought into his carefully structured world. Leah, for her part, glanced at Vincent as her eyes roamed across the changing scenery around them, letting them dart across his side profile, the slope of his nose, the lines etched around his distinctive eyes.
The time they had spent together had been consumed by meticulous details regarding the case and its sordid details, not allowing any time for pleasantries outside of what Leahâs resume held, and what little information she was able to gather about Vincent from a rigorous google search. Besides the conversation the day prior in the cafe, they were still relatively strangers to one another.
Arriving at Sandra's secluded home, they were greeted by a scene of tranquil isolation, the peace of the valley juxtaposed with the storm brewing within its inhabitants. Sandra, with her guarded demeanor and measured greetings, presented a figure of resilience, her German accent marking her words with precision as she navigated the conversation in her adopted language.
Leah's interaction with Daniel, Sandra's son, and the family dog, Snoop, was most shocking to Vincent. Leah's gentle, unassuming approach won Daniel over, her laughter and warmth cutting through the reserve that had initially greeted them. Vincent observed these interactions with a growing appreciation for Leah's natural empathy and the ease with which she connected with Sandra and Daniel, despite the shadows that hung over the household.
The discussion of the case took on a new dimension as Leah's presence seemed to soften the edges of the tense atmosphere. Her insights into the case brought fresh perspectives that even Vincent had to acknowledge were invaluable. Yet, it wasn't just her professional contributions that caught his attention; it was the way the alpine light danced in her hazel eyes, the genuine concern etched on her porcelain skin, and the graceful way she moved through space.
As the day wore on, Vincent found himself increasingly aware of Leahânot just as a colleague but as a woman who intrigued him.
The visit to Sandra's home, intended to deepen their understanding of the case, ended up opening up a dialogue into one anotherâs thought processes. The sum of which came to fruition as the moonlight illuminated sharply against the carâs hood.
Vincent's voice cut through the silence inside the car, breaking the rhythm of the road beneath them. "Who are you exactly?" he inquired, stealing a quick glance in her direction before refocusing on the winding path ahead. A puzzled expression settled upon her face as she met his gaze, her features momentarily frozen in confusion.
A soft, genuine laugh bubbled from her lips. "What?" she responded, the musical lilt of her voice betraying her confusion at his question.
"They were hanging on your every word back there," Vincent remarked, a hint of amusement in his tone. "Sandra's a tough nut to crack, but you seemed to have opened her up a little."
"I could barely get a word out of you yesterday," Vincent added with a chuckle, his eyes back on the road.
"Sandra," Leah began, her voice taking on a more serious tone as she turned to face him, "How do you know her?"
Vincent's reply was brief, a pause punctuating his words. "Old friends. Ancient history."
A thoughtful expression crossed Leahâs face as she considered his response. "You know what they say about history?" she mused, her gaze steady as Vincent fell silent.
Vincent's brows furrowed slightly. "What do you know about ancient history?" he countered, a smirk playing on his lips.
"That it has a way of repeating itself," Leah responded cryptically, her words hanging in the air like a lingering mystery.
Vincent's laughter filled the car, mingling with the hum of the engine. "For someone who's usually so quiet, you seem to have a lot of insight into things you claim not to know," he observed, his eyes glinting with a newfound curiosity.
As doubt crept into Leahâs mind, she pondered the implications of her words and the connection between ancient history and the present moment. Little did she know that the echoes of the past were about to resurface in ways she could never have foreseen.

COMMISSIONS OPEN!!
Heya! Wanna throw money at me to make me draw something?? Well, for just $20 an hour, now you can!
Read below for price estimates and FAQs, and if youâre interested, please email me at [email protected] to get started!
PRICING INFO
Because Iâm too lazy to come up with complicated price structures, Iâll just be charging a flat rate of $20/hour for any work I do on the art piece. The clock starts when I pick up the pencil or digital stylus and ends when I put it down.
This does mean that prices will vary, depending on how time-consuming each art piece is, but I can give you some rough estimates.
Upper Body Sketch: Approx. 30 min = $10 for one
It takes me about half an hour to draw a bust or upper body sketch. This time can be shortened if Iâm already familiar with the character design, or lengthened if Iâm drawing an unfamiliar character or doing some weird perspective stuff.
Every additional figure would probably take another half an hour, adding about $10 each.
Full-Body Sketch: Approx. 1 hour = $20 for one
Drawing an entire figure is a little harder than just drawing the upper body, so this one might take longer. Again, this time can be shortened or lengthened depending on my familiarity with the character, how complex the design is, and whether Iâm doing any complicated posing or perspective.
Adding additional figures can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour, adding $10-$20 each.
Animals: Approx. 1.5 hrs = $30 for one
Animals are not my strong suit, though I have gotten better at drawing them over time! However, the extra time studying reference photos and trying to get the anatomy correct can stack up quickly, so youâll want to be aware of that if youâre commissioning something with an animal involved.
Posters: Minumum 3 hrs = approx. $60
Posters take a little extra timeâand usually some trial and errorâto plan the layout in a dynamic way. They also take up an entire sketchbook page and tend to include multiple people and some extreme perspective to add visual appeal. You can expect a poster to take about three hours minimum to complete.
Multi-Panel Comics: Minimum 4 hrs a page = $80
Drawing a comic big enough to cover an entire sketchbook page can take me anywhere from 4 to 6 hours of work. If drawing a long-form comic, I will probably divide the work over several days. Brainstorming will happen on the first day, when Iâll plan out how many panels Iâll need for the comic, and then Iâll get in contact with you to tell you an estimated price before I proceed.
Digital Coloring: Minimum 1.5 hrs = add approx. $30
Coloring things digitally takes about double the time it would to sketch; Iâve noticed it takes around two hours to color a simple image, with another hour added for each figure involved. This first image took me about an hour and a half to outline and color, while the second took about five hours.
Add to Redbubble Shop: Subject to Redbubble Pricing
If your commissioned artwork is Lord of the Rings-related, I can put it into my Redbubble shop, where you can have it printed on stickers, t-shirts, journals, mugs, and lots of other products! I wonât charge any extra fee, but you will have to pay whatever price Redbubble asks. Full disclosure: I receive only 10% of the profit from Redbubble sales; the rest goes to the website to cover manufacturing and shipping costs.

Crow Melusine Kos (thatâs two first names, always used together) (...their children call them 'Sine) former Pursued Con-Artist, Star-Struck Scholar, current Politic Laboratory Director or Doting Naturalist light fingers/main they/them birthday: December 19
frequently wearing a mask that covers the upper half of their face; often plain colored with some painted details, such as vines, eyes or abstract lines. they paint their own designs - they doodle a lot while taking breaks.
faint lattice of scarring on top of head in memory of being buried alive. otherwise no scars of note.
underneath the mask, looks perpetually tired, with dark circles that never go away. typically very low affect in both expression and voice, speaks with a sort of soft, unwavering drone. not charming in personality, but used to sell ponzi schemes on the surface on the strength of their dead-pan manner making them sound completely and unshakably confident in whatever theyâre saying.
casual interest in false-stars, especially a certain one of unusual brightness that was first sighted a few years ago. primarily studies Neathy animals and monsters. a bit scatter-minded and out of it as a professor, but students who thrive on hands-on, low-oversight learning rate them a solid âalrightâ. no longer spends much time teaching since taking a job as Director of one of Mr Fires' newest laboratories.
considers themself a parent to the moon-miser hybrid, and misses it greatly. may or may not be making preparations to grow a new monster baby in their lab. <3 now parent to a fluffy orange and cosmogone baby bat the size of a toddler of "mysterious" origins.
allergic to smoke and very much almost died when Mr Fires took them into an underground library and set it on fire with them still in it. incidentally has a ârivalryâ with Mr Fires that consists of them metaphorically hitting each other with brooms. nowadays, is deeper entwined with Mr Fires than ever before, but donât worry about it.

Carver The Hushed Crowner bag a legend/alt they/them
once student worker in Crow Melusineâs lab. asked by Crow Melusine to bring them the Vake, and no one was merciful enough to tell them the Professor expresses wanting a new monster to study literally every week and they could just ignore it.
child of a Khaganian mother and a Londoner father; grew up in London. used to work in one of Mr Firesâ factories as a crownerâs assistant, which mostly involved patching up injuries and âinvestigatingâ worker deaths/accidents and determining that the factory was not at fault and would not be compensating the family in any way. bit soul crushed about it.
âpoachedâ by Crow Melusine, who helped them get into Benthic on the strength of their knowledge of anatomy and basic medical care mostly to tweak Mr Firesâ wires. Carver feels indebted anyway, because literally anything is better than the factory.
sought the Vake to gather samples for Crow Melusineâs research, but found themself captivated by it after coming briefly face to face with it. eventually got their sample, but gained permanent mobility issues from their wounds and was forced to give up the hunt.
now runs a small clinic in Spite, with an attached morgue for the temporarily dead--for safe storage until their recovery, or, for an extra fee, a guarantee that the deceased will stay dead an extra day or two. also does tattoos on the side. the clinic is guarded by three puppy-sized spiders, which they vehemently deny doting on like pets.
has never forgotten the Vake.
conscientious. arms like tree trunks. periodically non-verbal. nerve damage down left side of body from taking a claw to the shoulder. cane user. missing something. has something strange and bittersweet going on with Ada.

Ada Durand tbd bag a legend/alt she/her, occasionally it/its in private
has to be the most fuckable person at the Singing Mandrake at all times.
child of a well-to-do industrialist father. never fit in with her peers. left home to become a monster hunter on a whim, but found that the hunt suited her. hedonistic and a bit thoughtless, loves jewelry and cares about her appearance. smug and smirking and sharp of tooth, but never really lets anyone see her innermost self.
the last Vake-hunter. killed the Vake and made it a part of herself.
still, an emptiness is left behind.
met Carver while looking to have an injury treated, and recognized something in their ever-unfulfilled longing for the Vake. can be found coming and going around their clinic at all hours ever since. hates that Carver lets the giant spiders sleep on the bed.

Broken Tree of Ephemera, Mr Silk heartâs desire/alt they/it/she, depending on the identity theyâre using
a Sorrow-Spider council that failed to reach consensus and split apart. many of their members died or scatted, but a core cohort remains, refusing to accept the pain of being apart, even when other sorrow-spiders dismissed the idea of wasting time and resources on trying to fix a failed union.
they co-inhabit a human-like silk puppet, with which theyâve infiltrated the human population of London in pursuit of a way to re-meld. thus, they came into contact with the marvellous.
have they been touched by the lives they came into contact with in the game and in their interactions with humanity? difficult to tell. though lifelike, their blank-faced doll body expresses little.
nevertheless, they won their heartsâ desire. the Masters, however, were none too keen to upset the Neathâs already strained balance of power by handing the sorrow-spiders a brand new, red science-improved spider-council, and the Tree of Ephemera was obliged to agree to a transformation that might be more... easily controlled, and the duties and title of Mr ____ ...well, itâs a work in progress. the Tree is well aware that the Masters have no intention of ceding any real power to them, so they see little point in arbitrarily choosing an area of trade, despite their new colleaguesâ repeated attempts to explain the necessity to their new nature. the only thing that matters is that the change will make them whole again: one body, a joined mind.
so far, to their so-called colleaguesâ chagrin, their changes have not been wholly curatorial in nature. their puppet is growing as many flecks of shiny carapace as patches of fur, and has recently grown a glittering array of additional eyes.
less pleasing, they have begun to develop a distracting interest in weaving, silk, and other fabrics. Mr Veils watches them with increasing anticipation of an excuse to swat a gnat.

Penelope Howard, âPennyâ/âAshâ nemesis/alt she/he
when her brother Ashleyâs lover was tragically murdered, he left his home and family and ventured to the Neath alone in search of her killer. there, he was killed (permanently), leaving his revenge unfulfilled.
as Ashleyâs twin, Penelope has spent her life in his shadow. kind, thoughtful, intelligent, and naturally talented with every paintbrush, instrument or weapon placed in his hands, Ashley was loved by everyone. the ideal son. in contrast, Penny was just... Penny. after her twinâs death, it seemed only natural that she should take on his burden, following him to the Neath and taking on his identity to continue his pursuit. after all, he was the best thing about her.

hi i just finished reading your alastor fic on ao3 and!! i am soo down horrendously for the way you have written him!! the softness for his wife and their relationship as a whole! i love your take on his character! ive read your fic twice now and i'm eating up all the little details you've included with how close they are to each other! the way alastor will preen his wife's feathers, him always having an umbrella for her, the kisses to their rings, the way his smile will wobble sometimes.... ahhhh!! i think one of my favorite scenes was when his wife was gone for two days and finally came home & everything that happened after! especially the intimacy of the bath scene! i eat stuff like that UPPPP!!!!!! thank you for sharing such a marvelous story with us, it is one that i will think about for a long time!!
also- is Lys short for lysine LMAOO. i remember seeing the name for the first time and being like *eyesquint* is that an amino acid? pfft! i really appreciate all the science you've included- especially when alastor's wife was dissecting that cadaver in the forest; all the details about the serratus ventralis muscle. ive taken anatomy courses and i never was adept at memorizing the muscles LOL. if you don't mind me asking (and perfectly fine if you don't want to respond!), what are you studying? i'm pre-nursing so all this stuff with alastor's wife being a nurse/eventual doctor is right up my alley!
HI TO YOU AS WELLâ¤ď¸ Their softness is everything to me. Theyâre so soft that they just become absolutely losers. Losers, I tell you. So in love that they become so lame.
YES LYS IS SHORT FOR LYSINE. Lys is the three letter shortcut for Lysine and K is the one letter shortcut for it. And AAA happens to be the nucleotide sequence that codes for Lysine haha.
Iâve also had to take anatomy courses lol because Iâm actually doing a pre-med course rn. And Iâve just always loved medical! readers/OCs and all these classes Im taking can at least do something for me. If Im gonna suffer for 8+ years might as well make the most of itđ
Also mad respect to you for doing pre-nursing. Nursing is really hard. So kudos to youâ¤ď¸
The anatomy classes were what inspired the scene with Readerâs craziness. Reenactment in drawing form:
(And donât worry the rabbits are ethically sourced. There are businesses that specialize in giving out rabbits for study purposes. They raise the rabbits and give them a full and happy life. It was weird but cool to be able to see their insides and maddening to have to memorize the names of all their muscles. After we were done using their bodies they were given to graduate students who were doing their research. So not a single hair on the rabbit was wasted.)

do you have any drawing tips? i'm just starting out and your style inspires me to keep going fr!!
HIYA !!! thank you that is so kind of you, i would say to keep drawing with references and do studies!! typically art studies (in like art school lol) are of old masters (da vinci, etc) but doing studies of styles that you like, like trying to copy a certain artist you like, also helps you develop skills !!
for example, lots of people (especially fanartists lol) do studies of artists like leyendecker while making the models their favorite characters/ocs, so it helps to make studies fun. literally look up leyendecker study on tumblr dot com and you will see hundreds.
(gets a bit long and rambly so i've thrown it under the cut :')
style studies can be anything! above was done while watching wolfwalkers, just loose sketches that copied the style as the movie went along. i love the design and style in that film, wanted to incorporate it in my character design work, so i tried it out myself! it let me know the kinds of shapes used in the construction, the way it moves (wrt to animation) and silhouettes. by copying something, you learn how to do it on the way (so the kinds of colors used, what works best with shading, etc) it's like. reverse engineering
even very loosely copying something to identify what you like about the style helps! these were modelled after the way slimsense on ig paints (her work is 2nd + 4th examples below, my attempts at 'paint' 1st and 3rd lol), but doesn't really look like her work. i'm not necessarily trying to make perfect copies. i liked that her paint didn't blend perfectly, was blocky, and the additional lineart over the painting, so i brought that into my own art. i tried to create a painting style that was 'my own' off of lots of trial and error, and seeing what stuck!
also find brushes you like! adobe has a bunch on their page (if you have photoshop, but i know there's some for procreate and other programs) and if you want the adobe brush files, lmk. i will send a drive link to you LOL (sketches of the same characters, using different brushes below. the two i used the most often, one being a solid inker and the other being a paintbrush)
generally doing figure drawing is good too. i've heard advice about art where you can only start breaking the rules after you understand them, and a good grasp on anatomy, proportions, etc is definitely a good place to start! good sites to use for this are line of action for poses, and the morpho books (if you need pdfs of this let me know, though you should be able to find them if you look lol) !
i would also say learn perspective early on. i have no tips for you here i am so sorry. i didn't and now it bites me in the ass, but there has to be a youtube tutorial for this out there that can help you AND me. same goes for color theory. quickly dropping my favorite van gogh quote of all time:
(quote is from a letter to his brother) just everyone needs the fundamentals first. don't worry about a personal style: that just comes naturally as you develop as an artist, and i was certainly inspired by a lot of the things i watched/consumed and artists i admired which absolutely shows in my work i think (manet. western comics. fma. avatar. pjo fanart. there are tells. you know how it is.)
also flip your canvas !!! like see below ... frankly this marcille is so lopsided (her entire face should shift to the left) LOL !! flipping horizontally makes the anatomy mistakes obvious, and shows you you what you need to fix. i should never have posted this as is but sometimes it works for humor and an artist is lazy </3
AND ALWAYS USE REFERENCES WHEN YOU CAN!! i should use more references tbh!!! it helps with posing, getting anatomy correct, etc, and my friends use pinterest a lot, though i tend to just google when i need to LOLLL
also draw what you like. there is genuinely nothing that is better for your art than getting into something REALLY BAD and then non stop drawing it. time + practice will lead to improvement no matter what the subject is!
i hope this was not too much information all at once !!! and some of it is helpful!!! it's a lot of basic improvement tips that i try to practice and use when i can :) so sorry that this got so long!!!!
#everyone and their mother is doing leyendecker studies like i should do one too#i would also kind of say 'find out how you like to draw'#i feel like lots of artists start by thinking you have to be able to do perfect realism but its not necessarily true#realism ofc helps. like ive said. its the foundation to start and it's good to know proportions and such#but if you realise you like to paint more like a impressionist than a preraphaelite . then its fine! just keep creating!#textposts that are like 'you should be creating for yourself and possibly 5 others who are into the same niche shit as you'#its true!!!!!!!!#this is actually so rambly. if this is not what you meant please let me know#i am also still learning and trying to get better. grind never stops. the only grind im happy to keep going at#answered#anon#also ok not sure also if there are manet tells . like there honestly arent but still. his art changed me.#ok goodnight. i shouldnt be awake. best of luck anon :)

About Me
Hi, nice to meet you! ^^ I'm Yosos, and I do Pixel art, Art sprites, and Pixel animations. I first learned pixel art from an old friend of mine who works in indie video games. She got me hooked on it back in 2018-2019. But honestly, pixel art wasnât my passion at the time. My original passion was Rubber Hose style art and animation from the mid-1920s to 1930s, inspired by characters like Koko the Clown, Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, and good olâ Mickey Mouse.
When I tried drawing them on my phone, it didnât look so good because my hands were always "broken" because I kept punching the wall :-P lol. For me, pixel art is good because itâs easier to control my hands when drawing on my phone. Anyway, now I'm stuck with pixel art and learned a lot from my friend. Not sure what happened to her, but I kept going. I still use Rubber Hose animation as a base because I love how bouncy and expressive the emotions are and how fast the character movements can be.
I also take inspiration from various pixel art video games from both my childhood and now, like Super Mario Bros, Kirby's Adventure, River City Ransom, and Mother 2/Earthbound, to more recent titles like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, Undertale, Deltarune, Yume Nikki, and more. I appreciate the authenticity of their styles and the vibrant colors they use, and I just love how they move too. ^_^
I'm a self-taught artist, and I typically finish my art within a week to two months, depending on the size of the canvas, number of frames, and colors used. And yeah, I watch NSFW animation and art to learn more about animation techniques and anatomy. Sooooooo yeah, thatâs me! ^_~

I think it's a fighting game like Street Fighter, but my idea is more like an RPG game similar to Dragon Quest. The story is that you just moved to Newgrounds City, and suddenly bad things happen. Some of the famous Newgrounds characters disappear, and only you (the player) can save them and Newgrounds City. Idk :-P

ABOUT THE ADMIN!
I've realized I haven't spoken much about myself aside from my boundaries and guys know like nothing about me!! I know it's not required you know me when but I'm terrible at being dark and mysterious..
This is just gonna be random facts about me because I love to talk about myself
Basic Things To Know! +me yapping
⨳ I roleplay! I'm a literate/somewhat Novella roleplayer on discord. I can write most characters if I study them for a bit and I'm in the fandom but not Katsuki and Izuku for some reason.. I have written Katsuki before but I never know what to say. I kind of write the same things over and over again. It's sad and embarrassing. </3 I'm most confident in my portrayal of Iguro Obanai from demon slayer. He's my favorite character and I think I write him pretty well!
⨳ I'm an artist! Sometimes.. I do commissions but I consider myself a beginner artist. I can't draw hands or perspective well and I suck at anatomy. But I do have pieces that I'm proud of! I'm not linking them though because I don't feel like searching for them.
⨳ I love music! Since like elementary school, I've been heavily involved with music. I played the violin and I was first chair until the end up middle school! I haven't picked it up since then because quarantine kinda ruined it for me and I SUCK at tuning instruments so I ended up taking theatre in high school. When I get my violin tuned, I might start playing again. I haven't stopped loving music though. I have two guitars (That I have no desire to play) and I'm kind of obsessed with the drums. I got out of classical music and really want to be in a band. I also really want to share my music taste.
BOOM playlist link
I kinda JUST made that playlist because I usually just listen to playlist based on their music genre but I didn't want to link all those playlists!!
⨳ I'm 16! Turning 17 this year! I'm also aroacespec I'm not sharing my name on this blog because that's not really important and I can't see any reason you'd need to refer to me out of character. But if there is a case, then you can call me Z. Also for pronouns, just use he/him because I'm roleplaying Monoma. I'd prefer if you didn't use they/them pronouns on me unless you're talking about me and other people! Grin!
⨳ My favorite characters are Aoyama, Monoma, Touya, and Jirou!
⨳ I LOVE KAREOKE! I used to go to this karaoke place ALL THE TIME with my friends and it was like the best place ever!! I don't think they do karaoke anymore which is SO SAD!!! But I'll manage.. (6 months without karaoke has really taken a toll on me/j)
⨳ I have a really silly jester doll. his name is ugly and I got him from a thrift store
He's my bestfriend. Be nice to him ⨳ I prefer fruit candies over chocolate ones! ⨳ Apparently I have a southern accent? I didn't notice it until a few weeks ago and I brought it up to my friend and they were like "No yeah you do have one" and I was like WHATTTT ⨳ I used to be REALLY into cosplaying on tiktok but then I kind of lost interest in it.. I want to start doing it again but tbh I don't really know if it's my thing,, I cosplayed from JJBA and it was SO fun. The lines for the makeup was my favorite thing to do. Of course, I didn't have costumes or wigs for any of the characters I cosplayed. The only character I did relatively well on was Ermes because I had boxbraids in đ. People were like "You're literally Ermes irl!" Because I'm lightskinned with boxbraids cosplaying a character that's lightskinned with boxbraids and I thought that was really silly. I want to cosplay her again because that was one of my favorites. I would share the cosplay but I'm not really up for sharing my face on here yet or at all LOL ⨳ OC writing is one of my favorite things to do. I actually have a huge story for an OC named Seiko Yamakawa who's a my hero OC. I referenced his story in the roleplay sample I posted XD I wrote him with one of my friends and we're designing a whole class for our OCS. Their story is set a good few years after the events of MHA and I'm hoping one day I feel the urge to write it and post it online so other people can see our hard work. I have a lot of OCS I want to post on here but I'm a slow artist and would have to make a bunch of refs for them because I like for their information to be complete. I have an OC that I'm considering making a roleplay blog for. He's the first MHA OC That I remember making after quarantine (All the ones I made back them are not to be spoken of..
⨳ IBS tummy ache survivor.. I'm just like Hinata Shoyo
OKAY I don't know what else I could possibly put here without doxxing my whole family/j SO I guess that's the end of my rambling!! I really just wanted to talk about myself and I would have done it on my main blog I just really didn't want to...
I was debating writing this because I really want to be one of those super mysterious blogs that people are like "Wow! they're so in character! This is literally the real Neito Monoma!" But I've already spoken so much out of character and I can't keep my mouth shut for the life of me (Yes I can that was a lie.)
anywayz hi guys!!
this is gonna be linked on my pinned post btw like most of everything else is
#neito monoma blog#hi#me reveal#talking about myself#meet the writer#or something#hello#haiiiii haiii helloo haiii#silly

If you don't mind me asking,
What's art styles ended up influencing .. Well your art style?
Oh, this is a fun question, thank you for asking!
Hmm, I think it's a little hard to say since I've been drawing since I was basically a toddler, lol. Every little thing I've ever enjoyed has had some sort of influence. I'll try to go through the timeline though.
When I was a little kid, I had a special interest in zoology (still do! but it's not as obvious as it was back then.) I used to wake up first in the house specifically so I could turn on the tv to the animal planet channel and just watch documentaries all morning, and I carried a giant animal kingdom encyclopedia with me to school every day to just flip to random pages and read whatever popped up. During this time of my life, I pretty much exclusively drew animals- particularly elephants, canines, and horses. I had no interest in people.
I had no real interest in stylization at this point- obviously as a little kid I was never able to achieve perfect anatomy or anything like that, but I was more interested in making my animals look real than cartoonish- which meant I was never really influenced by the disney movies I was watching, since they stylized their animals so heavily.
I remember the dreamworks movie Spirit held my attention for a very long time, and I think it may particularly have been that way because the horses looked and acted more real than they did in disney movies. They were still stylized of course, it was a cartoon after all, but it wasn't to any extremes. I still find myself wanting to mimic that in my animals now; cartoon, but not cartoon-y.
I think these two gifs help illustrate my point lol.
After this exclusive animal obsession (followed by dinosaurs, and then dragons) I got really into Sonic the Hedgehog around age 11. Drew sonic characters, and made my own OCs for it, for basically the entirety of middle school. I've pointed out in the past that it seems the way I draw hands was heavily influenced by this phase
Very round, almost rubbery, where the ends of the fingers tend to flare out a little bigger than they are at the knuckles.
Then after sonic, I got into my first anime, Soul Eater, and this is really where I first started venturing into drawing people and more realistic human anatomy.
Interestingly, this artstyle seemed to also do the Sonic Hands thing, lol
After this I had a big anime phase, as well as just a general "I want to study actual human anatomy" phase during early high school. I was following a lot of skeletal/muscular system tutorials during this time.
Following that I started getting back into american media, in particular I remember invader zim, steven universe, and tmnt 2k12. I'm not sure I can really tell myself where the steven u artstyle is present in my own, but I've had people tell me they can tell I was into it at some point after saying so.
Then there was the Rubberhose Boom of 2017, with the release of Cuphead and BATIM very close together; I had a big hyperfixation on that artstyle specifically at that time, and I feel like I may owe some of the loose-ness in my artstyle to that.
Then, I suppose, we come to Rise of the TMNT. That show ended up being a major inspiration to me, and I think I owe a LOT of recent artistic growth to it. Rise pushed me out of my comfort zone big time. I always liked doing dynamic poses, but rise encouraged me to push things further, and I started drawing more backgrounds and making bolder color choices because of it as well.
I think my artstyle became just a bit more angular after drawing so much fanart as well.
And I suppose that's where I'm now at presently! Aside from media, I also can't say I'd be where I am artistically today without the influence and support of my many friends. :) I owe a lot of things about my artstyle, particularly specific things like my lineart, to compliments my friends paid me which made me pay more attention to the things I was doing accidentally that they happened to like, then making it purposeful and more refined as a result.

Blogiversary the Fifth
Hiya, folks! Itâs that time again where I reflect on the past yearâs ups and downs and oddities.
For my art, 2023 ended up having a heavier emphasis on fashion, dreams, and expressionism, which was fun. This yearâs notable art moments included:
designing a couple more OCs for D&D and updating an old one
the sales of a few more charms
my Art Fight 16-character mass attack (plus a small last-minute one), and receiving a precious revenge of Rill
a big-for-me hit with my Barbie/Matrix crossover piece, crossing 1k notes for only the 4th time ever on this blog
overall playing around with style a bit, especially when making more of my smaller, looser art like feelsposts and dream outfits, the latter of which I did in a bigger way for Fashiontober
participating in the 900 koroks project and more AGE projects, which led to...
...finally making it into the CR fanart gallery for the first time!!!! And then TWO MORE TIMES after that!!
I feel like I scrapped a lot more things this yearâI have plenty of unfinished WIPs sitting around, for one reason or another. And oddly enough, zines werenât really a thing for me this year (until this month), but AGE scratched the âbig group projectâ itches nicely :) And Iâve literally been hoping to get into the CR fan art gallery since I started this art blogâback when the gallery was still a reel in the streams!âso to gain that honor thrice in one year is a dream come true in triplicate. (Looking back at last yearâs blogiversary post, I see where I had specifically wished for realized dreams for us all this year. How fitting! I hope some of yours materialized, too.)
I don't quite know where I want to go from here, but I think Iâd like to tackle some more art style and anatomy studies. Iâve also got an art series/merch idea from last year that I never made and would still like to bring to life, so perhaps Iâll take time for it soonish. In any case, Iâve got a couple commissions Iâm working on now, and weâll see where next year takes me!
Thank you to my 138 followers, the lurkers (hi, you!), and all the others who believe in me. Letâs use 2024 for a fresh start and try some new things!
Cheers, and stay hearty! đŞđ

for the artist ask: 2, 4, 5, 8, 14, and 17~ :3c
@andeborg Billy my sweetheart! <3 Thank you for your questions and patience đ(But like they say "save best for the last" <3) Although most of the questions I already answered here: 2, 5, 8, 17) but here are the other two:
4. Favourite things to draw?
That's a tough question actually! I think it will be female faces and female bodies overall and long hair 'cos I love making them nice shapes '3'
14. How has your art changed over the years?
That will be fun to answer! I have to open the folder with my old art and I will show you! '3'
<2010 I started my drawing journay with drawing animals like lions/wolfs I tried imitating "Lion King" style but I do not have any artwork from this time ;; But I have artworks from 2012 which I think I was quite good already (* ̄â ̄) Here it is, my lioness OCs: Xena and Hexa! (daughter and mother)
2011 (left) - I started drawing humans (manga style) after watching Pandora Hearts anime. Anatomy was really wanky - I clearly didn't know how to properly draw the shoulder/chest area, the clothes design was "edgy" 'cos I was 14yo lol, and of course, I was hiding hands 'cos I couldn't draw them all! And I didn't have a graphic tablet back then so all was traditionally made with crayons. I mostly drew character designs and my OCs, here is Alex.
2012 (right) - I already got a tablet and I was making digital drawings. I had the courage to try drawing hands, but the whole silhouette was really long and thin, and I was afraid to put more decent shadows but I started doing a little background.
2013 (left) -I was making more complex pieces but I didn't know shit about perspective and composition lol
2014 (right) - It was definitely a "gap year" in my art life I didn't draw much back then but definitely, I started using photo references to improve my artwork
2015 - 100% art block year ;; I stopped drawing, using DeviantArt, and just quit for a while
2016 - I was drawing again thanks to Metal Gear Solid games - It was the first time I was so involved to draw fan art (before I was worried that "my ugly art style will ruin my beloved characters" lol) and I made Tumblr account for it!
2017 (left) - Was completely dedicated to Ao no Exorcist manga, it help me make art again and enjoy M&A again but I stopped drawing my OCs thou I practiced more while doing study characters, sketching more, teaching myself from YouTube, etc
2018 (right) - Here I was switching to My Hero Academia fandom but also I was making fan arts/ crossovers for different shows and I was improving my coloring/shading style etc and started making commissions
2019 (left) - Burnout year again;; I was drawing VERY little and mostly it was sketches for series I watched
2020 (right) - I decided to come back to drawing and open commission - I was doing mostly My Hero academia commissions and thanks to that I seriously started working on my background in artwork and my skill overall and I think it was a time when I realized that drawing come very easy that I had a certain level/skill which made less frustration about how and what I drew
2021 > I mostly focused on commission and improving my artwork!
That was a long post but so fun to make and reflect a little bit! Thank you to all people who sent me asks! I was really supries how many itwas (that's why I took me so long! ;;) I will do it againg in the future for sure! but maybe with questions made by me? who knows! (* ̄â ̄)
Love you all, Alex đˇ

15 Oc Questions
@thetruearchmagos tagged me in this a while back and it's one of the tag games I've elected to do! Leaving this as an open tag, so if you want to participate, hop on in!
For this one, I'm going to do Dr. Charoen Aten Panya because xe doesn't get enough love for how much I love xir!
1. Are you named after anyone?
Dr. Adair says no, but Rune called me "Roen" (Roan) growing up, which I think was their way of tying my name to theirs. But as beyond that, no.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Two weeks ago. I got into a disagreement with Marcie and lost control. It wasnât a sad cry; it was an angry one I think.
3. Do you have kids?
It's complicated. Biologically, 4. Three of them I've never met. One of them I raised with my partner for the first few years before I left Athens. The second was born not too long after I left.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
I don't think I do. I like to think of myself as a very blunt person.
5. Whatâs the first thing you notice about people?
How they approach me. Do they treat me like a friend or something to be studied?
6. Whatâs your eye color?
Brown like Dr. Adair. Rune had green eyes.
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings. I've seen too many scary movies play out in my lifetime.
8. Any special talents?
I'm quite skilled with practical medical skills. It's something not common in Athens, but I see it more often outside. I've been trying to teach Marlowe some of these skills as well, as I won't always be around.
Other than that, it's taking out my cochlear implants and not listening to people.
9. Where were you born?
The Athens Zone of Safety. Specifically, in an apartment just west of the Chancellorâs Quad, formerly Myers Quad, because I came three weeks early and Dr. Adair couldnât get to the maternity hospital in time. I moved when I was 6 to Runeâs new apartment off Baxter, then to Rune and Arieâs apartment when I was 10, in the same building I was born in.
10. What are your hobbies?
I consider my work my hobby. Research is fun for me and stretches my brain in all sorts of ways. Having another biogenetic specialist (Marlowe) to work with is always interesting.
11. Have you any pets?
I had a goldfish when I was 4 or 5. Rune bought it for me but Dr. Adair flushed it down the toliet while it was still alive. That was one of the last straws before they got a divorce.
12. What sports do you play/have played?
I was never theâŚathletic type. Rune played basketball though. They tried to get me to play a sport.
13. How tall are you?
5â4â. I take after Dr. Adair in that matter.
14. Favorite subject in school?
Sciences generally, but specifically anatomy. Rune and Dr. Adair both vetoed that, so I ended up studying biogenetics like a good researcher in Athens. (Also if youâre wondering what biogenetics is, itâs just specialization in both biology and genetics.)
15. Dream job?
Honestly, I like my job, save for the dangers. I think Iâd like to have been a surgeon if Iâd gotten the chance

this blog is turning 10 this year đžđĽłđ
I made an improvement timeline to celebrate
2013 - The year I stopped reading mangas so much, and got into webcomics instead. I also decided to ditch DeviantArt because it was getting worse and worse for everything
I was really into Sandman and Steam Powered Giraffe
2014 - I got my first drawing tablet for Christmas 2013, but for almost two years I still drew everything on paper to color/ink digitally later
I was still very much into Steam Powered Giraffe. Also this was the last year where I had patience for inking until 2022
2015 - Definitely tried to break from my manga style but I had an unfortunate dorito face phase
2016 - Last year of Steam Powered Giraffe, last year of traditional art as well
In retrospect, I'm kind of impressed by the fact that my art got anywhere. I did a single human anatomy study based on a photograph. I had never done a single one. At all. Ever. Before that. Woopsies
2017 - A lot of OCs stuff got done between 2016 and 2018, I even finished writing a short story
Despite learning how to do studies and vowing to do more of them, I did NOT do a single human study that year, but I did try very hard to understand perspective (then I dropped it completely until 2022)
2018 - The return of anatomy studies
The year I finally accepted to use references, contrasts, and to learn how to paint
2019 - Lots of DnD and OCs stuff in there, and some experiments on lines and colors techniques, yay
2020 - Since I was finally going somewhere with my drawings, I, of course, decided to stop for two entire years smh
2021 - Literally all I could churn out were 6 character cards for one of our VTM campaigns
2022 - We're back and it's vampires central baby
It took me almost a year to shake off the rust and get back in the game
_
Thoughts and prayers for 2023 ; if everything goes right I'll keep doing anatomy studies and maybe by 2033 I will have bullied myself into drawing backgrounds and landscapes
Here's to another 10 years
Special thanks to @mellyoraa, @kimodraw, @magpiecrown and of course @charlesemersonwinchesteriii for sticking through ten entire years

So, y'all seemed to like my last TMR OC/idea prompt list thing, so I thought I'd do another one.
But actually focus on OC ideas this time.
Okay, so here are some cool OC ideas because there's actually a lot you can do with this universe, but everyone does the same shit.
And I am here to provide:
A transfer character. Can be used for either the books or the movies, but an OC that starts off in one Maze and then gets moved to another with no warning could be an interesting concept. WICKED has made giant simulation Mazes, monsters, flesh eating floating metal balls and teleportation windows- I don't think it's that far-fetched that they could scoop a kid from one Maze and throw them in another.
So, Thomas and Teresa obviously built the Maze, so prodigy characters are a staple of the series. I think an OC that has a lot of knowledge about anatomy and biology, who could work as a Med-jack or a Slicer, who actually designed and made the Grievers, and obviously doesn't remember it, could be a interesting concept.
More male OCs pls. I love seeing these ladies, don't get me wrong because it makes things more interesting. But I think fanfiction can just be for fun and I love seeing some casual normal guy OCs kicking it around the Glade. (Saying this as someone who has male and female characters for this universe.)
I'd also love to see a trans character.
An OC that snuck into the Maze could also be fun. I feel like I need to explain this one more. Picture this: your character is like Teresa and Thomas and has enough of watching their friends be tortured and killed, so they set themself up to go into the Maze early. So they rock up early, like in the middle of two Greenie days and it freaks everyone out. (This could also be an easy way to make it make more sense for fem! OCs to end up in the Glade.)
OC with a cyborg limp of some kind. WICKED could make it happen, don't tell me they wouldn't.
Also, lemme give some names 'cause there was a phase a while back where OCs had the most random names and people completely ignored the fact that all the characters in the Mazes are named after famous people.
(I have used some of these names for my own characters, but I will not be revealing the name of my main OC because she is too precious to me and I am protective over her name. I may one day post about her if people are interested.)
