K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?

This is a hard question because I feel like all of my fics are pretty angst heavy? I know I published it anonymously, but I think Immoral in a Stranger's Lap was probably one of the most painful, especially because it didn't really have a resolution or a happy ending, the same goes for (Sometimes). It's still in the early stages of outlining, (and I'm writing it because I am firmly in the we need more mpreg in this fandom camp) but the Teen Dad Fictional!Matty fic is also shaping up to be pretty angsty - it's looking like it's going to be a split narrative alternating between 16 year old Fictional!Matty dealing with teen pregnancy and present day thirty something year old Fictional!Matty trying to get pregnant on purpose and struggling to do so which I know deals with a lot of really heavy and painful topics.

L: What’s the weirdest AU you’ve ever come up with?

I feel like all of them 😂 But I guess, since it's not really popular in this fandom I'm going to say omegaverse even though it was very common in my other fandom experiences.

E: If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it be about?

I'm choosing to talk about Small Bump because I was working on Make Way for Ducklings earlier and clearly have mpreg on the mind. If I were to writing a sequel to that one, it would be dealing with Fictional!Matty's postpartum depression.

once again regarding the "rich men are rich men" discussion. how do you manage to separate that from your enjoyment of the sport bc im really struggling with that at the moment. i LOVE the sport in and of itself. it's so fun! but everything else from the ethics to the drivers being these unbearably rich people to the corruptness of the organisation that is the fia just stands in complete contrast to my own values and political opinions.

I joke "the rpf is payback" but honestly the rpf helps a lot when it comes to the drivers' at least. I don't emotionally care who or what Charles does in his free time when I'm too busy mpregging him on tumblr dot com and it means my emotional energy is freed up to just enjoy when he wins.

Unfortunately, unbearable rich people exist in most entertainment (except quite probably literally fanfiction! hence why it's a pastime that needs to be nurtured and a community that's kept alive and most crucially unmonetised. Stop buying bound fanfic). I struggle a lot with the ethics, they race in countries which I know I could just never visit because of who I am. I struggle a lot with the open secret that these people are complicit in the exploitation of young women but these are issues in the structure of our patriarchal global society and aren't just unique to F1. I think F1 is more prone to it than other sports because a. these young boys are exploited from so young they're more likely to be around adults growing up who endorse this kind of lifestyle and b. the nature of it is flashy and expensive and with more money comes more freedom to do fucked up things. But I struggle with it too anon, day in and day out and I run a BLOG dedicated to the sport. The RPF does seriously help in a meta way, but also because it helps me consume content related to the hyperfixation which is a. written by women/queer people that fundamentally exist outside of the patriarchal norm and b. I know my time and attention won't result in any revenue for these people. I refuse to buy merch anymore, I pay for F1TV because I'm often watching at work but I encourage people to illegally stream.

It's a tough line to walk though, and I think that this is an ongoing conversation which is important to have on here!

Writing a Scoops Fic

This will get long, so it's under the cut. And it will contain spoilers for the fic, which kinda seem obvious, but alas.

Lol okay, when an initial idea hits me, I usually send it out into the universe to see if it's a good idea (sometimes in private DMs and sometimes I'll tweet it). This idea struck me yesterday when I was watching my niece and nephew and my dad off-handedly mentioned the show "I didn't know I was pregnant" (i'm staying with my parents while my apartment is being renovated and I'm slowly dying)

Here's the idea:

I tweeted this idea out to my private twitter at 5:22pm yesterday and then all my friends slowly exploded. The more I think about it, the more i think Mario anon might have done something similar (they've covered pretty much all the mpreg tropes but are usually sfw and established relationship). So, to make this idea my own, it'll be nsfw (hi, hello, it's me. And that's like the super fun part about writing this idea) and not established relationship - friends with benefits immediately makes this situation even more complicated. I'm in.

There's no time or energy to write last night so I stewed on the idea and when I got to work this morning I made myself focus on my novel writing (that should be the priority but im currently stuck). And wrote some then. But for on my lunch break, I thought, why not? Let's see what comes out. I talked with my friends at work for like thirty minutes and then wrote 828 words. I'm going to share all of those words with you at the end. This is very vulnerable for me because I'm purposefully not going to clean them up or edit, just show you what I've raw dogged. ((to be fair, though, i think the opening line is like banging))

Then, on my drive home, I thought about it more and more and most of the plot materialized in my head. As of now, I can picture two scenes really clearly, and that's enough to build a long fic or even a long one shot out of. (I also did this with There's Hope Out the Window)

The first scene is the one you're about to read. The second scene is George waking up in the hospital with Dream next to him, calmly explaining he had to have emergency surgery, and their baby is too little and might not make it. Lots of Drama. The idea of one of those fireplace blowy things that looks like an accordion came to me and George feeling like someone used one of those and blew love into him until he was sick with it -- that's how much he immediately loves his baby. It's a boy. He has to stay in NICU for weeks and the drama will unfold from there.

And as far as I remember, it gets cut off very early in the story. The reason I still recommend the story is because it got exactly that complicated stockholm syndrome and manipulation going on that you want, and the story dives right into that with the first chapter. (And it’s deliciously good). …I admit that I’ve literally only read the madaobi parts xD

This is my secret tip where I don't give a hoot about the parameters. xD Read any fic that's by enquiring_angel!!!!!!!! Just scroll through the madaobi tag on ao3 and if you see that name, click on it. She has such an amazing grip on the characters, I love her writing so much.

Secret tip: use online translator to read fic

Madaobi has a lot fans in the Chinese community on ao3. Can’t read Mandarin? Use a translator! Often the result will be a bit clunky but I found that once you get used to it, your brain can bridge the gap (like names that get messed up by the translator, or any grammar/sentence structure issues). There are some real gems out there. <3

Finally:

Otherwise, I can only recommend looking on ao3 by yourself. If you filter out any languages you can’t read (and maybe add some tags you prefer), the number of madaobi fics is small enough and not too overwhelming to navigate. (There are probably some fics I missed because I didn’t read them/they’re not up my alley, but might be to your liking?)

Completely the wrong day to be sending this ask topic wise but just have to say I’m SO glad All the Kings Horses has a weekly scheduled update.
