Euphoria (Azriel x pregnant!reader)

Summary: You and Azriel find out you’re pregnant.

A/N: Thought his idea was cute and I’m thinking about making this an entire series of dad!Azriel. Also I’m sorry if this isn’t good, it’s my first time writing anything for acotar, but I do really like it so I plan on writing more in the future.

Azriel and you had been trying to have a babe for a while. While the only people in the Inner Circle who had a child was Rhys and Feyre, you have been mated for hundreds of years and were beyond ready. 

Having children was something you had to have many lengthy discussions about first. Azriel’s trauma with his family as a child and your own trauma being an Illyrian women whose wings got clipped before being cast out of your home only too be found and taken in by Rhys’s his mother, were all things you both had to think about before even considering bringing a babe in this world. That’s not even mentioning the war you and all of your loved ones fought in and somehow survived. However, seeing Feyre and Rhy being amazing parents to their son, and just seeing Nyx in general, has confirmed what you both have wanted for a while. 

But, as much as you both wanted a child, it just did not happen. It’s been years since you started trying, and as much as you love to be with Azriel intimately, it started to feel more like a task rather than something fun. There have been a few nights that Azriel has woken up because you forgot to close the bond and was flooded with your feelings of self-loathing. All he could do was cup your tearstained face and whisper reassuring and loving words to you. You blamed yourself and as much as Azriel denied it, those thoughts just didn’t go away.

After the third night of that happening, both you and Azriel decided to just stop trying. Of course you both would continue to not take the tonic, but your goal while being intimate was no longer having a baby, it was to enjoy each other. After a time, sex was pleasurable again, your mindset improved, and while you did have moments of self doubt, Azriel was always there for you as you were for him. Similarly, your family was amazing the entire time. While Azriel and you were fairly private about the situation, you didn’t hide what was going on with them. Their support helped you heal, both of you. It’s been a few years since then, Nyx was now six and it is true that time heals all wounds. 

Azriel was the one who noticed it first. The sun was starting to rise, light beginning to stream through the window of Azriel and your shared bedroom. It was one of those rare occasions that neither of you had to go anywhere that morning, however, Azriel was so used to being up before the sun that he was already awake. Your face was peaceful as you slept, your bare figure tangled in the sheets, and the only noise heard was your soft breathing. His hazel eyes watched your calm face, all the while having his shadows watch both of your surroundings. Weirdly enough, his shadows also kept brushing over you, almost like they were scared to let you out of their grip. It reminded him of when you first mated, at least one of his shadows had to be with you at all times once both of you got out of the frenzy.

There was something different, something unusual that Azriel could sense that made him feel uneasy, but not on edge. It bothered him, however, as your eyes fluttered open and you shifted your body to face your mate, it hit him. Well, your scent hit him. Before, the room smelled of the previous night’s activities, but with your change in position, he could now make out that your scent has changed. It was subtle, but the slight sweetness in the air was all that was needed to figure out what was so strange. 

Azriel’s face was the first thing you saw as you woke up. Despite being able to mask how he’s feeling extremely well, his slightly widened eyes, along with the millions of thoughts running rampant behind them, were all telltale signs that he was in shock. 

You hum curiously before speaking.

“What is it?” you question while reaching up to cup the side of his face, rubbing your thumb along his cheek. You could feel the coolness of his shadows brushing all over your body, it was comforting yet slightly unusual to wake up to. 

“You're pregnant.” 

Sitting up suddenly, as if a bucket of ice water had been spilt on you, you look at him bewildered.

“I’m sorry, what?” 

A grin filled with pure joy took over his face as he answered you once again. 

“You’re pregnant.”

All you could feel was disbelief and elation. You could now tell that your scent was different and all you could do was look at your husband, your mate, incredulously. His deep laugh fills the room, only further showing his happiness. You beam at him as he lifts you in his arms and settles you on his lap. His bare skin felt warm against yours, and the chill that continued to brush over you from the shadows felt perfect against you. The only time you’ve felt this overjoyed was when you found out you were mated to Azriel. You brush your lips against his as he cups your face, brushing away the tears you didn’t know were falling. 

You knew things were going to change from that point on. You knew how male got when their mate was pregnant, how protective they became. You saw first hand when Feyre was pregnant with Nyx, she could never move more than a few feet away before Rhys was next to her once again, and if a stranger came up to her, everyone could feel the power he unleashed to get them away. Rhys had mentioned it was similar to how males are after first being mated, but also said that that is nothing compared to how protective he felt of his mate carrying his child. 

You knew that this was only the beginning of troubles you would face. But at this point in time, wrapped in one another’s embrace, tenderly kissing tears of joy off each other's face while the morning light poured in, all you could feel was euphoria.

WHY ARE YOU LEAVING ME?! - "TICCI" TOBY

"Y/N I'll be back s-soon. Ma-asky has been in a s-shit mood 'bout this mission." Toby grumbled as he tied his boots.

"What..?" You looked up at him quickly from the dishes you were washing. "Why are you leaving me...?"

"Y/N, it's j-just for a m-mission." He sighed, realizing that this would be coming the longer he kept you here with him alone. "P-promise it won't be long."

The look of confusion and hurt on your face was evident. He hated it when you got upset like this. How was he supposed to explain any further that it was only a short mission? He felt like he couldn't ever explain anything to you. It was starting to get rather irritating too.

"You don't want to stay with me?" You questioned, your tone slowly growing angry. Your hands letting a plate clatter to the counter.

"Don't st-start with that. I told you! A sh-short mission!" His tone began to match yours, with a rough twang of anger. He tied his boots up with white knuckles before standing up and glaring at you.

"Don't leave me!!" You screamed, not bothering to wipe your wet hands off as you grabbed his wrist. "Why don't you love me?! I haven't done anything wrong!! Why do you keep leaving?!" Your voice grew hoarse as you screamed louder, practically begging for him to stay. "Toby please! Please don't leave!" You tried to pull his hand from the doorknob with tears streaming down your face.

"L-let go Y/N! I have t-to go!" He shouted back, ripping his arm from your grasp and throwing the door open.

"NO! NO! DON'T LEAVE ME!" You cried, watching him walk out in a huff.

You ran after him, kicking up dirt with each long stride. You grabbed onto his shirt, trying to drag him back inside. "Please Toby! Please I need you!"

He shrugged off your advances, continuing down the dirt road. If he wanted you for himself so badly then why was he leaving?! They had more than enough manpower to get missions done without him. You could barely survive without him! How dare he leave you like this! His pace didn't stop you from continuing your chase. Picking up a hatchet leaning against the picket fence you ran with rage in your eyes and anger in your heart.

"You're not leaving!!" You shouted, bringing the hatchet above your head, ready to swing at him.

He turned quickly, dodging your swing and wrestling the hatchet out of your small hands. "What on e-earth do you think y-you're doing?!" He shouted, throwing the hatchet far into the dirt as he got up in your face. "You're going to k-k-kill me for trying ta' leave? What the f-fuck is your problem!?" He took a moment to pause, staring you down with a look that could probably kill. "Get the f-fuck inside. Now."

When you didn't respond to his words, he grabbed your wrist with enough force to shatter it completely, dragging you towards the house. He threw you on the couch, pointing an accusing finger at you as he continued his yelling spree.

"I do all this for y-y-you! Be fuckin' grateful!"

It was only when he saw tears spring to your eyes that he went quiet. Yes he was upset you were making such a big deal out of one short mission, but he wasn't upset enough to make you cry from yelling at you. He let out a defeated sigh, taking a seat next to you on the old couch.

"S-sorry... I shouldn't have y-yelled... You gotta k-know missions aren't optional... I really gotta go Y/N..."

You sat defeated, tears streaming down your face. You hated it when he left, and no amount of reassurance made you feel better. Every time he left, you felt a piece of your heart break.

All you could do was nod, letting him stand without protest. Toby gave you a gentle kiss on the forehead before heading out the door once more.

HI HERE FROM THE TWO PARTER EPISODE POST. what in the world is the actual beginning to sink or swim? i didn’t fully realize that was cut down too…

also that’s wild that bionic action hero was cut on netflix? bc i feel like i remember watching the full scene so vividly, like i always remembered that from that episode and i watched all of lab rats on netflix when i was a kid. so was it cut later on or something? like not when it was first put on there? idk why i’m asking you. i’m just curious ig LMAO

Lol no worries! And that’s interesting that you saw that scene on Netflix, it was cut from it when I saw it there so it must have been removed later? That’s weird.

The true opening of Sink or Swim has Leo and Donald exit the elevator and reunite with Tasha, explaining how they fixed it so they could get back upstairs. Only then does it cut to all three of them surveying the damage to the lab, now having all gone back down to check it out, but streaming starts it there. This is one of the most memorable cuts to me because it’s not only the start of an episode so I immediately clocked that this was Not the way it used to start but also because I watched this show as it aired and vividly remember the horror of them trapped in the elevator over the season break so I was specifically very happy when s3 started and we actually see them get out lol. Then of course you have Bionic Action Hero cutting Adam mourning that he never told Chase he loved him and subsequently Chase later telling him he loves him too because he heard him say it before. Worst cut ever. Thankfully it’s online:

There are a number of cuts to Rise of the Secret Soldiers as well. Lots of action is removed from the battle and pieces of dialogue are gone. The one I mostly remember is when the three Davenport kids are debating what to do and Douglas emerges from behind a barrel — in the version on streaming he immediately comes out and starts suggesting a way they could make their idea work, but in the aired version, he feels awkward having revealed himself hiding and nervously goes, “I’m not hiding… I’m picking berries to use as weapons!… they could be poisonous!” Now as I look into this scene specifically I’m also noticing a lot of the following dialogue gone — the siblings debate taking the risk of aligning all their powers and Bree in particular is unsure but Chase and Adam convince her and they have a sweet family moment of agreeing to do this together. I can’t find a good quality version of this stuff but everything missing is in this low quality Dailymotion video lol, with the bit I’m referring to starting at around 41:25:

I didn’t check out the rest of RotSS to compare to streaming because I’m just going off the top of my head here but I’m sure there’s other stuff in it that’s missing from Disney+. There’s stuff in all of the special length episodes that got cut but idk what they are right now, just that there’s pretty reliably always something gone. The only one I’m pretty sure is safe is Crush, Chop & Burn because I recently rewatched it and it seems very much the same to me, I couldn’t imagine what would be gone that I wouldn’t have noticed, unless I’m that rusty by now. But generally speaking things get cut from these longer ones, whether they’re big moments or just a sentence, or in the case with at least one episode of Wizards of Waverly Place if not more things, apparently sometimes even a few words out of a sentence is, inexplicably, fair game.

I need to hook up my DVR hard drive and have a rewatch of everything in their complete aired form so I can take notes on what’s absent from Disney+ lol. It would be interesting to compare and compile a full list for all of us to be aware of what’s not there that should be.

Grett is such a fun villain character. i love how she does fully step up to the plate as a role, so she's not as serious about being mean as someone like Riya or Yul. plus, if she hadn't stepped up to stop the men's alliance, Miriam probably would have been eliminated, and then who knows who would have won?

Who is your favourite character from Vtuber Legend? And out of all the Live-On streamers is there any who you would actually watch?

I think over all, Awayuki is still favorite character.

She's got the perfect mix of being a gay as fuck chaos gremlin who tells you how much she wants to fuck girls every couple of minutes while also being a genuinely sweet and caring person to all of her fellow VTubers.

Also seeing the the chaos gremlin having to adopt the straight man role because every other character is trying to out do them in craziness is always hilarious to see.

Outside of her, Mashiron has also gone way up there for me the last couple of episodes.

Her going out of her way to out gay Awa at every turn these last couple of episode has been top tier. She's going on the attack and she know where to strike to make Awa's gay heart melt.

Now for the VTubers I'd actually watch: I'd have to say Hareru and Awa.

Hareru: She'd be the kind of streamer who would be at 100% charisma every single stream. The amount of clips of her randomly saying funny stuff would be astronomical.

Awayuki: I honestly kinda already watch several Awayukis already. Chaos gremlins are kind of my preferred type of VTuber in general. Hell I even watch at least one who's also a heavy drinker (thankfully she's been cutting back a lot the last year or so as... she no longer has to deal with Nijisanji...)

All the others I'd tap in to watch if they're doing a collab that looks fun, but those two are def the one's I'd probably watch on the regular.

Theories I got on Q!Philzas current story/situation

1. He's still in that Birdhouse

A lot of people are worried saying "Oh he's gonna die from starvation or something" Well he first of all brought a little snack but also a STACK OF GOLDEN APPLES. Apples, especially 64 can last a very long time but given those are basically magical apples, given its been a week he's fine so far, but also if he runs out and has to get desprate, theres a shit ton of birds in there. If he really REALLY has to, theres those birds to eat in there as well (yea its messed up but survival in desprate situation can lead people do to messed up shit ) Hell he could even eat the paper of those books or whatever. Mentally will he be fine? He's already not so hell no, but he'll be fine food wise. Sanity is gonna be horrible of course. Besides people have been gone far longer than he currently has been , its only been a week so who knows how long he'll be gone for in the QSMP ;)

2. He went the route the eggs went that Forever said , Which is...

He escaped but ran away but at the same time is still looking for the eggs in his own way

So in the recent BBH stream, BBH did in fact use a codebreaker on Phil's chest, it revealed HIS BACKPACK WAS MISSING FROM THE LOCKED CHEST. Meaning

A. Federation took it and is going to use it for an Event or just has it for shits and giggles

B. PHIL ESCAPED , WENT BACK AND GRABBED IT BUT RAN OFF

Though you'd think he would leave a message, however at the same time given the federation does in fact has access to his base, they would know as well that he is gone from the birdhouse and would look for him. Meaning he could have secretly escaped , went back to his wall base, grabbed his bag and ran off because he realizes that Cucurucho is what the eggs more than likely ran from if they had ran and he is going far away looking for them . Besides, if I remember correctly , though I had not watched a lot of DSMP except for a few clips and summarys on what the lore was after it was almost over just to understand what it all was ( funny enough I really got invested the only time on DSMP of the Slimecicle and Quackity story ... and now look at whos smp Im really invested in lmao ) , Philza did Isolate himself far away from others in that server as well other than from technoblade.

3. He was moved from that Birdhouse and is being given the Baghara treatment (oh good lord anything but dadza :C )

For people unaware of what I am talking about , to put it shortly,

The federation themselves after breaking him down more mentally took him out of that birdhouse, put him into another place, and are currently experimenting on him and fucking him up even more .

Anyway these are all just theories I have on what could happen though these are just what I think, however other than the very first one I'm pretty sure these are all wrong.

Either way Im pretty excited to see what Phil and the qsmp has for us in store for the lore ( remembering his little "just you wait mate ;3 " when he was looking for sniffer eggs the other day responding to someones dono calling him the angst queen lmfao wHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED IM EXCITED ) Ive already loved the lore not just from Phil but from everyone on the server .

Man lies ALL the time about stuff just. because. he just does it, he doesn't think. it's usually harmless?? like "do you like x food" "ohh yeah! i looove x food! ^^" because... what if they get mad at him for saying the wrong thing :(

Like after the events of this fic- I'd imagine Joel's parents were Royally (hah) upset the next morning when they see that their child was sleeping with the son of their (now dead) political rivals ghjfgjf... like Joel feels 100% justified in the whole thing (and also rather enjoyed it, tyvm) but also,, he was probably grounded for literally a month if not longer afterwards hgjfhgjf.....

For Oli... I'm sure he's an absolute Joy to have in class if you know what I mean (/silly) like he is tormenting the halls of the palace and being a general nuisance but none of it would really be "worst thing ever" bc he's a prince and also just goofy so he's annoying but the staff loves him yk. I think what would be considered the "worst" thing though is gonna be in the next fic I post :3c

Gosh... I mean... I do kill them kinda. That's pretty significant. Joel dies horribly and Oli is trapped in stone for 200 years. That's pretty awful.

But that hasn't happened Yet and I dunno if I'll ever have the heart to write that particular scene ghfjgd... like I know how it happens in my head. but. I can't do that to them by putting it in writing </3

Besides that... Oli's parents did die too. Still dunno if it was political conspiracy or not. But either way, that's pretty awful and traumatic for him- and he couldn't be with his best friend for a few months before that and then afterwards he STILL couldn't be with him for a while... brutal for him :(

And Joel's upbringing is just kinda... sad. He's sooo lonely and then he FINALLY gets a friend and of COURSE it's the ONE PERSON he's not allowed to really talk to and his parents aren't supportive at ALL of their friendship but they gotta grin and bear it bc yaayyy alliesss and it's so tense and awful and makes him feel guilty because it's like he's gotta choose his family or his only friend but his family was always so neglectful anyway so why would he choose them but that's his Home and- anyways. Any event involving that whole dynamic is his worst, hope this helps ^^

Hmm... anger is tricky. I feel like Joel is definitely the kinda guy to bottle it all up because he's not allowed to Feel those things or Show them yk. I'VE BEEN MEANING TO TALK ABOUT THIS FOR SO LONG. BUT HE LOVES THEM. SO SO MUCH.

Like it's a special interest of his but like unofficially. If given the chance he would 110% give up being royalty to go be a field researcher studying sniffers. But also not a field researcher because they're endangered :(

In my au I've decided sniffers are indeed still alive but they're (almost) all kept in one big sanctuary in Mezalea. Maybe there's a few wild ones left but like no one's seen em so it's assumed they're all there. I figured if this au takes place ~200 years before "canon empires" and also irl dodo birds were around in the 1800s... yeah sure, why not? Sniffers can be canon <3

Of course when Oli hears about this he absolutely learns how to shapeshift into one to impress Joel. Which absolutely works. Because oh my void sniffers,,,,

Tattoos: none, but have been microwave-spinning the concept of getting a hannibal tattoo since I watched. the heart from primavera would be so cool

Last drink: classic water, big big fan of the stuff. reminds me of nbc hannibal because because there was water in the show a lot

Last show: watched two episodes of The Last of Us at like 5am yesterday, it was great. also perpetually rewatching hannibal by getting everyone I know to watch, and then watching with them

Last thing you ate: soft tofu in broth. there are, not a lot of vegan post-wisdom-tooth food options (also I’m very picky lmao), so I’ve been rotating between that, vegan ice cream, mashed potatoes, and vegetable smoothie for like 3 days. 

Favorite color: ohhh this is painful, is it a cop-out to say all of them? Big big fan of purple, orange with purple, green, and blue. 

Current obsession: it’s been hannibal and nothing else for 9 months now, and im going strong

Unrelated obsession: not sure if this counts exactly but there’s a writing app where you set a timer and start typing, and if you stop typing for longer than 5 seconds it deletes everything, and it’s so cool. I’ve been calling it stream-of-consciousness writing in my head for like a year bc it’s like a personal stream-of-consciousness even though ik that is not how to use that term alksfhd. I do 3 or 5 minute sprints and store them in one document, then have a second document where I edit and refine, and for a few I’ve put them side to side and colour-coded all my changes and it’s so fun

Any pets: two cats! Miles, my grey one, is extremely sweet, and possibly too smart for his own good. My other one Chico has a very adorable snaggle-tooth, and is incredibly stupid <3. he’s very bad at knowing what direction he’s going or recognizing any parts of the world around him and I love him very much.

Do you have a crush on anyone?: only in that vague abstract way, almost without direction, catching little wisps of the concept of the feeling from scattered bits of interactions with the world around me

Ok, I tried to rewatch the Smosh Agree to Disagree/new studio tour from twitch on yt, but couldn't.

It just says unavailable, if anyone has the clip or has access to it on twitch, maybe you can clip it? Regardless, the question of missing old Smosh came up and I think Shayne answered the question perfectly.

What he said was along the lines of, That it is ok to miss the old Smosh and things from your past because you have a longing for fonder times. Rose tinted glasses and all, it isn't necessarily the content, it usually is the fact that life was simpler back when we were kids and we didn't have so much responsibility.

My guy's degree, sure does come in handy😉

I understand the frustration with the main channel right now, but you can't please everyone. Trust me, I'm one of many who are annoyed as all hell that some people finally got what they wanted (Classic Smosh) and quit complaining, just to have the tables turned, now there is something new to complain about.

Tbh, I feel like majority of Smosh fans are ride or die, through the Defy shutdown until now, good and bad. While some just jumped ship after Anthony left, especially during the Smosh homelessness period, and came out of the woodwork just to jump on the bandwagon when Ian and Anthony bought Smosh back.

Me personally, I feel like it is easy to weed out these outliers/trolls. I want anyone and everyone to enjoy Smosh, but it has to be genuine, and if it is, you have to be able to have open ended discussions with all types of criticism.

So, when it comes down to people leaving, especially 3/4s of the 2019 core, I'd rather get a root canal! Yet, that is me being selfish and I need to be a grown up and realize that if it happens, it happens.

If I was a betting man, i wouldn't expect it anytime soon. Like you said, give the main channel until the end of the year/early next year, and see where the subscription model stands. If it is still the same and "old smosh", (funerals, interview exes, Smoffice) aren't back, than we might need to reconvene on this topic.

I think when it comes to Shayne and Courtney, I could see them sticking around until the 10yr mark, imo. It is such a milestone, why wouldn't they? With Damien he joined around 2017, so he would have to wait a little while longer for that, but he has his voice acting roles, so I believe he's fine.

If they aren't being creatively fulfilled, than I get the reason to leave, but from the outside looking in, it seems like it won't be anytime soon.

Last part, I promise! I might sound a little selfish with this take but, if Shayne and Courtney did leave, either around the same time or if only one left, maybe they would feel more comfortable sharing their relationship with the public, e.g. socials or Courtney's yt channel.

A Conversation with Sammy Duet

On December 21st, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Sammy Duet on Zoom. Sammy has been in a plethora of bands, such as Crowbar, Ritual Killer, Goatwhore, and of course, Acid Bath. Acid Bath was the main reason I had hoped to chat with him, as earlier that year I made a 2 hour video about the band, and managed to write somewhere around 89 pages on their history. And yet, after it all, I still had questions left unanswered even after listening to the hours of his archived live streams, and the various newspaper clippings that I came across online. I watched what I am pretty sure was every Goatwhore/Sammy Duet interview at the time. And while there were some really good interviews out there, none were able to answer those final Acid Bath questions I had.

For some reason, I sent him a message on Instagram asking if he’d be interested in ‘totally not an interview because I’m not a journalist 🤮’ at 2 am one night. Surprisingly, a few hours later, he said yes. After a while, it finally happened.

December 21st was that special day, and when I messaged him asking we were still on, he replied telling me “Yes!”. Once I read that, I went into panic mode. It was happening. It was really happening. I was so incredibly nervous, I could not stop trembling. I had to take extra anxiety pills to calm the fuck down. They barely worked. My stupid ass was a few minutes late trying to finish my makeup and he was already in the Zoom room, waiting for me. I could have just shit myself right there. But I hadn’t even eaten yet that day. [Also, it’s not like I wasn’t totally crushing on him or anything.]

I quickly set up my camera and tried to point it at me. I couldn’t really tell if it was a good angle or not. I didn’t have my glasses on, because I wanted him to think I was cute.

We talked for about 10 minutes before I realized that I wasn’t recording anything. Things didn’t go as planned, and the audio got jacked up. But it was a fun experience either way. Below is a majority of the conversation, transcribed by myself. The conversation as a whole went longer than I think either of us planned. My recorded audio is about 1 hour and 38 minutes long. I hope that if you read this, you get to learn something new today. (●'◡'●)

The actual beginning of the recording starts off with Sammy talking about some of the religious experiences he had as a child. This is only partial audio, but we briefly discussed the oddity of Pentecostal women having to be fully clothed, and how, at least where he lived growing up, that there were people of this denomination that would snake handle. The act of handling snakes, knowing that they’re dangerous, but having the faith in God that things would be okay. As Sammy said,

“This snake isn’t going to bite me and kill me, because God loves me so much. And I guess that’s why my religious beliefs are so [different] you know? It's that kind of thing, it’s completely polar opposite.”

Me: You know, it’s funny you say that, where I live, now in just in the middle of nowhere in rural Texas, you have the Mexican Catholics, and the cultish looking Pentecostals. Like for example, if I go to the grocery store, I’ll see the women-I don’t know how it is over there-

Sammy: They’ve got a lot of clothes!

Me: Yeah, it’s the long, long, skirts

Sammy: Long skirts, long sleeved shirts, and their hair is made up, I feel very sorry for those women. But anyway!

[We talked a little bit more about religion, but unfortunately I can’t make out the audio fully. I had mentioned how even to this day, I’m trying to undo behaviors that are deeply rooted in religion, I didn’t even realize it. Sammy seemed to understand, and ended his commentary with, “Don’t even get me started on that”. ]

Me: There is some things that I found pretty interesting while I was doing my research for the Acid Bath shit, and some coincidences that made me think, “Oh that’s so freakin’ weird!”. When I had read online, I had found the newspaper article online, saying that you guys were really big in South Dakota…for some god awful reason.

Sammy: Uh, what happened with that was, nobody cared. [We] were playing maximum for [small groups of people]. So basically, when we were together, playing and touring, there wasn’t a whole lot of…attention! So like, when we would go on tour, we’d play 4 shows, max as Acid Bath, and nobody cared.

Something happened in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where there was the guy that ran this radio show out there, and everybody from the college would hear, and he would constantly play Acid Bath. And for some reason…I guess it caught on in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The first time we played there, it was like-insane. When we’d tour the United States, like I said, we would have played like to 5 people a night. I mean, that’s a massive jump to play one show, and then one where there’s a crowd there.

It surprised us! Ya know? So that’s why that place was such a special place for Acid Bath, because the first time we played there, it was insane! So that’s why Sioux Falls, South Dakota [was significant for us]. Sioux Falls, South Dakota, imagine that. I did not see that coming.

Me: No, I couldn’t either. I was really surprised…I mean, I can tell you why you guys were so popular there, it’s because nothing else ever comes up there; and I say that because I lived up in South Dakota for about 6 years, but I lived on the western side of the state from Box Elder, Rapid City, to Spearfish. Granted, those sides of the states are so different of course, but still similar at the same time. I mean, South Dakota is not the type of place that people go to play shows at. It was like 2008 or 2009 on Type O Negative’s last tour that they decided to come to Rapid City, and I was shocked.

Me: I noticed that there were a lot of videos from around the 2015 time period, where people would say, “Hey Sammy, you haven’t seen Goblin yet?”. I mean now, have you?

Sammy: The band Goblin?

Me: Yes.

Sammy: No, I haven’t seen them yet. I always wanted to. Sucks. And recently they played at a place in New Orleans, earlier last March. [I can’t make out the audio, but he talked about the place that they played at, a chill place where people like to hang out. “But once again, I didn’t see them”, as he was touring.]

Me: There was this video from 2013 where Goatwhore played at Housecore Horror in Austin, Texas, in 2013. Then 2 years later, Housecore Horror was in San Antonio, and I went to that one and I’ll never forget, that they had Goblin there, playing the soundtrack to ‘Dawn of The Dead’ as the movie played. [The 1978 version that is] And I was like, “Oh my god! If only Goatwhore played at the 2015 Housecore Horror!”. Was this the same time period where King Diamond said that you guys were too heavy for him?

Sammy: No, that was around the Abigail tour. I think it was around the anniversary tour? One of those. But uh, yeah, it was the Abigail anniversary tour or whatever. [He was still thinking about it, but couldn’t seem to place it exactly]

Me: I just thought that was interesting, like man, if you guys came to the 2015 one, you guys could have watched it. You could have been there. (┬┬﹏┬┬)

Well, I’ve got to ask, with “Angels Hung From The Arches of Heaven”, is it supposed to be the Ten of Swords [tarot card]?

Sammy: Yes. It is the Ten of Swords. It’s supposed to represent something very bad happening.

[I had asked him if it was meant to be reversed, though he didn’t tell me yes or no. I honestly don’t think it was supposed to be, based off what he told me.]

Me: Yes, yes…believe me. I was really curious about the back, at least, the back of vinyl, I bought mine through Bandcamp so I don’t know if you guys have it totally different in other ones, but the back kind of reminds me of the Page of Swords. Is that intentional? Or is it just a skeleton dude?

Sammy: I don’t-I wanna say for sure. Like, our singer Ben Falgoust and the artist, Jordan Barlow are on the same wavelength when they came up with ideas. It might be.

Me: Yeah, I wasn’t sure, because the sword was pointing down. I’m sure you already know, but the regular card has the sword pointing up. Why the Ten of Swords though?

Sammy: I mean, like I said, usually when you see the Ten of Swords in the cards it is not something good. I usually like to leave the interpretation [out in the open].

Me: Does it have anything to do with “Weight of a Soulless Heart” or Perdition [And I Was Delivered From The Wound of Perdition]?

Sammy: There’s no real connection to any song, it’s kind of…it’s not connected to any song.

Me: Mhm…even “Invocation 3”?

Sammy: Yes…yes.

Me: When are we gonna get “Invocation 4”?

Sammy: Probably on the next record. We might skip 4 and go with 7.

Me: Why?

Sammy: Why not?

Me: Well then it’s gonna be like Microsoft going from Windows 8 to 10!

Sammy: Exactly! Or you never know, it could be like “Invocation 3.1”.

Me: Enough about technology! Anyway, the reason I even bring up the Ten of Swords, is because some of the interviews I watched, some people called it the 9 of swords. And I was like, “Do I need a new pair of glasses?” because I kept counting 10.

But it was really interesting to me, because I saw the artwork and thought, “That’s some spooky shit” because early this year, in January [2022], I had a tarot reading and I was lucky enough to get the Ten of Swords reversed! Could you believe that? And a couple of other things, like the Page of Swords, The Devil, so obviously I had a really great year.

But, I saw that and I was like, “Man I don’t know why it’s exactly connected together” but, for whatever reason, ‘Angels Hung From The Arches of Heaven’ came at a point in my life where things were not exactly great.

Me: So here’s the Acid Bath stuff. Honestly, who came up with the name?

Sammy: It was our drummer [Jimmy Kyle]. This was back when the band was still called Golgatha. There were all these changes happening, so we decided to change the name and couldn’t really think of a really good name because all the really cool names were taken at the time. And, during that point and time, the five of us were taking a lot LSD. Like. A lot. And, somebody, I believe it was Jimmy, brought up the name because we were so fond of this LSD we were taking, that we were like “Why don’t we change the name to Acid Bath?”. Let’s roll with that, and if anything better comes up, a better idea, we could change to that. But it just kind of stuck. That’s basically where the name came from.

Me: So was the connection to the Acid Bath Killer unintentional?

Sammy: Yes. We were not aware of that at the time.

Me: I had wondered about that, and I know that people have asked you about that before. I kind of like the idea of being so…so fucking high that you’re stuck in an “acid bath”.

Sammy: Yeah…it kind of happens you know.

Me: I had read about the Angel’s Trumpet, and I had seen the one video that Josh had posted, of you talking about your experience with it. And I was like, “Fuck that!” [Laughs] I could never do that!

Sammy: Yeah that was no fun. It wouldn’t stop, it lasted for days. That was uh, the first and last time I took Angel’s Trumpets.

Me: Yeah, it sounds kind of like the Methamphetamine version of hallucinogens. I’ve heard of people being high for days on meth.

Sammy: Yeah…it’s not really what I’m into.

Me: What, Angel Trumpets or Meth?

Sammy: Either!

Me: I’m personally not really big into drugs. The most I’ve ever done was just get really fucking high on weed. But, I have issues. I’m the type of person now that, I guess I just smoked so much that I instantly have a panic attack. It happened to me earlier this fuckin’ year.

Sammy: You’re not the only one that feels that way, trust me.

Me: I wanted to apologize for my actions on Instagram. I know that it wasn’t professional.

Sammy: You have nothing to apologize for. The thing you have to realize, is that I like to fuck with people. So if I give you a smart ass answer….

Me: You know, I was really curious if you or any of the other guys were into true crime, and stuff like that?

Sammy: I know Dax was heavily into it, he was really into that stuff. But you know, I dabble.

Me: Wow that actually answers a lot for me. I notice that with “Kite String”, it was released right before the 25th anniversary of Tate-LaBianca.

Sammy: That was completely unintentional.

Me: I once had seen that somebody has asked you what you thought of Charles Manson’s music. Do you actually like it?

Sammy: I had one record, but it had some really good songs on it. In one recording, he stops, and he starts yelling at this person. A guy comes in and asks for a cigarette, and Charlie loses his mind.

Me: That sounds like how he was, from everything I read.

Me: I forgot to ask you, how are you doing today?

Sammy: Good. Just practicing. A lot. Getting ready for the tour. [This was a little over a month before they went on tour in Europe at the beginning of 2023].

Me: Are you nervous?

Sammy: Oh no.

Me: Did you by chance ever see the Acid Bath video I made?

Sammy: No, I haven’t yet.

Me: It’s alright, I mean, it’s 2 hours long. [When I said this he looked shocked]. I guess I did find quite a bit of information.

What ever happened to Kelly [Audie’s brother]?

Sammy: Kelly, the last I heard, was in the military. I know I was hanging out with him a lot for a long time, then he just kind of…disappeared.

Me: I don’t know if you’re familiar with the Metal Archives, but it had said that you and Kelly had been in a band together, what, like a 2-piece?

Sammy: It was a 3-piece band, it was like, a Doom band. Myself and Kelly, and the drummer. It never really went anywhere

Me: So it just lasted all in the same year that it started?

Sammy: Yeah. You know, we never really took it seriously.

Me: Let’s go back to having hopefully more of a good time. Or at least, I hope you’re having a good time, it’s okay if you’re not.

Sammy: [Laughs]

[ I then asked him if he still had his natural teeth, as years ago, Sammy had to have his jaw wired shut after getting into a bar fight. If you don’t know, this is pretty much the reason how and why Ben Falgoust became the singer for Goatwhore. Since Sammy’s jaw was wired shut! ]

Me: Did you ever go to jail for all the bar fights?

Sammy: Luckily, no. I managed to avoid the police!

Me: It’s funny, I remember this interview that Josh posted on the archive [Acid Bath Archive on youtube] where they called you Bart Simpson. Do you feel like, growing up, you were a lot like Bart?

Sammy: [Pause] No.

Me: Really?

Sammy: No. I was a lot more, how can I say it, I was a lot more intellectual. I was always aware of the repercussions of my actions. I was always…”How could I not get caught?”. How to get away with doing this fucked up shit.

Me: Well, what was the shit you were doin’? Were you throwing roaches at people?

Sammy: Kid shit! You get bored, and do dumb shit. Trying to not get caught. A lot of kids would do it, and not worry about the repercussions I was always aware of “How can I do this and not get caught?”.

Me: I found this newspaper clipping about that stabbing, I think you guys were on tour with Incantation. Do you remember that?

Sammy: Yes, I remember that. We were on tour, I want to say it was either Brooklyn or Manhattan, something like that. And Incantation and Immolation played a show at this place called ‘The Voodoo Lounge’. And it was downstairs in this basement, and it was like, the show was just-insanity. You couldn’t move in the place, it was crazy. And apparently, the other guy there was very short tempered. Something happened, where the singer at the time, Mike, that was singing for Incantation, was walking through the crowd to get to the backstage. And then this place was so fucking packed you had to kind of squeeze your way through. And apparently Mike and another guy act like he’s trying to get through the crowd and the guy pulled out a knife. Like, slashed Mike’s forearm. And this other guy jumped in to stop it and then that guy gets his face slashed. So they wrestled the guy to get the knife, and he gets out of the hold that our friends got him in and runs upstairs outside. So they catch him, and they proceed to beat the living shit out of him. The cops show up and they’re like, “Yeah, alright, we’re taking this guy to jail.”. Seeing the guy outside, his head was just wrapped up with gauze. They beat this guy up bad. But the funny thing was, the cops came, it was a big fiasco and there was blood everywhere. But the cops just arrested the one guy that did the stabbing and just let everybody else go. Mike had been slashed on his arm, on his bicep, and the guy who was slashed in the face was basically holding his face together.

Me: Would you consider writing a book about your life?

Sammy: Possibly, you know? If the situation was right. Yeah probably you know? I’ve been definitely approached about it a couple of times.

Me: What would be the right situation?

Sammy: Just having someone that actually gives a fuck about reading. Someone that would honestly be into it, and into the details. I’d actually want to do it the right way, and actually kind of engage the reader rather than “Oh ya know, this happened….” And getting to the point instead of, “I had a pet horse when I was 8.”.

Me: Did you have a pet horse when you were 8?

Sammy: Actually, yes!

Me: [Laughs]

Sammy: I had a horse and other phantom pets.

Me: I heard that you spent a little bit of your childhood in Scotland. Right? Or no?

Sammy: Yes. I can’t really remember a whole lot about it. I was so young when it happened. But my father, at the time, was a tugboat captain. Something happened where he had some job out there, for like, a couple of years. So me, my mom, and my sister moved out there.

Me: That’s really interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anybody living in Scotland. I didn’t even know that people actually lived there. [Laughs]

Sammy: Yes! Lots of people live out there!

Me: I don’t know what my segue was from there, but what would you say is your earliest memory in life?

Sammy: I can’t answer that.

Me: Well what is it today? It’s okay if it’s the horses at 8, I can accept that.

Sammy: I can’t, I can’t answer that question. [Laughs] Like, I’d have to sit here and really think…I can’t answer that question. I don’t know. My earliest memory…I can’t answer that. I don’t know.

Me: Do you feel like the older you get, age is a luxury?

Sammy: Uh, to an extent yes. You start to realize a lot of things that [don’t matter].

Me: What were the things that concerned you when you were younger?

Sammy: Oh just things in life, nothing in particular. Ya know? The things you worry about, that you won’t worry about in ten years. It’s now irrelevant. It’s like the older you get, the less fucks you give.

Me: Is it true that you actually grew up speaking Cajun French first?

Sammy: Yes.

Me: If you were to hear bits and pieces today, would you be able to say, “Oh I know that word!”?

Sammy: Oh yeah. I mean, I kind of lost it, I haven’t spoken it in so long, but [if I hear someone speak it] it’ll come back to me.

Me: Are you lost during the times that you go to France?

Sammy: No, Cajun French is very similar. I’ll hear things and think, “I know what they’re talking about”. I’m not gonna get into the conversation. The way I was taught how to speak French, they’d probably look at me like I was fucking crazy.

Me: That’s actually pretty funny, that was actually like a coincidence. Back in school I took five years of French and not because I genuinely wanted [at first]. It was really weird where my last name was at the end of the alphabet, so for whatever reason, they [my school] had it set up where if your last name was A-M, they could go to Spanish class; And everyone else gets French. And I was everyone else. I still even remember some of it, ya know?

I was confused when you called Boris [one of his cats] a ‘cochon’, because I thought it was ‘cornichon’. And I was like, “Why did you call him a pickle?” [Laughs]

Sammy: Cochon means pig. (‾◡◝)

Me: So what do you guys do on tour for food?

Sammy: Unfortunately, we have to eat a lot of fast food. Sometimes it’s a gamble, because you never know if it’s going to be really good or terrible. So it’s just kind of like, ya know, eating a lot of fast food wishing the best; and then we carry a lot of stuff in the van that won’t go bad. Stuff that’s sustainable.

Me: Well, if I didn’t know better, it sounds like you’re living through the apocalypse.

Sammy: Almost…it’s kind of a preparation.

Me: [Laughs] So do you go fishing when you’re at home?

Sammy: No unfortunately, I would love to but uh, I haven’t had the opportunity in a few years.

Me: Would you fish for fun, or catch something and eat it?

Sammy: If we caught something that was tasty, we’d keep it and fucking eat it. Yeah, hell yeah!

Me: Are you allergic to anything?

Sammy: Nothing. I’m impenetrable.

Me: Do you guys like Arby’s, or do you avoid it?

Sammy: We try to avoid Arby’s at all costs. It’s definitely not high on the list. We try to eat relatively healthy.

Me: Would you consider becoming a vegan like Rob Zombie?

Sammy: Um, no. I like seafood too much.

Me: Are you a cook, or do you like to cook?

Sammy: I…I have my moments. Yeah.

Sammy: I can cook all kinds of stuff. Ya know, raised in southern Louisiana, that’s all there was to do, cook. My mom was cooking something, my dad was cooking something, grandmothers. I kind of learned a lot of stuff from that.

Me: Have you ever eaten rattlesnake?

Sammy: No, I have not eaten rattlesnake, ever. But I’m willing to try it, yes.

Me: We had some a few years ago, a friend came back from his farm with I think, a diamondback rattle snake. You know, one of those ‘fucking kill you’ ones, and we skinned it. Basically, to me, it tasted like pork. More like a pork chop, than people will say chicken. I would recommend it, just try not to get yourself killed while doing it.

Personally, I like to cook. That’s my main thing. I always say, if I end up on like, my 600 pound life, at least I ate really good food. Not that I want to be like that.

questions 1, 2, 5, and 8

Wow didn’t think i’d get this far. *clears throat*

1: how did i get into Toku. Well, it was a mixture of watching “history of power rangers” and searching tv tropes. My first attempts at watching stuff were Gaim and Liveman.

But for how Properly: i’d tried for years to watch a show in full and really sink my teeth in and pretty much failed to finish anything but Liveman which even then took years, or in Rider’s case failed utterly to finish, and then my ex ghosted me as a friend, and i was stuck at work feeling bored, and lonely one day waiting for my ride, i was thinking about how i enjoyed reading about people’s reactions to ex aid. -along with it being in my thoughts for various reasons <like it’s insert songs > as it had recently ended, and i’d enjoyed ex aid 1-8. It had also seemed like a good way to try and make friends. So I Went and Binged Ex-Aid 8-45 <and Dr Pacman > over the course of that labour day weekend. Worth it.

And then a year later while streaming and being out of stuff in english To Stream i pulled another friend in with OOO and we binged through it, and Fourze. Finished Gaim too that way.

2: what was the first show i watched:

Well since i partially answered above: Gaim and Liveman were my first attempts at their respective franchises, Liveman took me about 3? Years on my own, plus i’d both skipped a few eps and had to speed up the last few eps due to having work the next day (it is still one of my fav sentai and i have watched it multiple times since, please watch it). Gaim i don’t know how many eps i got through but put off due to wanting to use it for exercise. Yeah that didn’t work.

Now for Ultra: Ultraman Orb. Fun fact i hadn’t realized it was only 25 episodes because usually the toku i’d encountered or looked into -and Doctor who, were all Much longer. until literally ep 18. So: “man how are they going to top this we’re only half way”. *checks* “huh where’s the rest” “oh shit”

i like Orb. It’s a fun little show.

Other Toku:

Garo: season 1. Tried to do a halloween watch and didn’t finish. Tried again later and couldn’t get into it-and then when in a situ where i could’ve. Had to miss most of the season.

I have however finished the first season of the Ryuga timeline. Started slow but really did pick up, thanks @flaim-ita looking forward to more goldstorm.

Other toku in geneal: Kaiketsu Zubat.

I’d seen clips and photosets because of how insane Zubat was and had been curious, and then Toei’s youtube put the first two episodes up. And: the first episode of Kaiketsu Zubat is Insane. You do not understand if you have not seen it.

5: favorite main hero:

For Rider: Tendou. Ultra: Riku. Other: Ken Hayakawa, and Taisei High School Heroes. <and i haven’t finished it but Mako Dogengers high school

Sentai: the Liveman Trio but for Red’s in general. -yeah probably Yusuke from Liveman if i’m being honest when i think about it, but Momoi Taro has been up there. i just am waiting to see if it’s recency bias talking or not.

WHERE. ANY TIME OF DAYYYY. it's really different to see it yourself. esp at parks!! we couldn't stop giggling because we don't know if we should proceed taking pics w the flowers and all or just look for another area because they're all there doing couple stuff (cute pics and all) it's so fun n hilarious.

Game Pile: Straight Outta Tucson

Desert Bus was last week! It’s a cool event that raises money for the Childs Play charity, by playing the game Desert Bus. The more you donate to the event, the longer the event runs, and that means they have to play the game longer and if you weren’t aware, Desert Bus is a shockingly boring game.

What this means is that the whole streaming event is someone playing a dreadfully boring game and doing anything they can to be less bored – with their friends in the room. It’s a festival of events of busking, comedy performances, dramatic readings, a few D&D games, quiz games and also kinda a long-reaching slow-rolling combination of a con and a podcast. And mixed in amongst that there’s other events, including a game jam!

And I submitted a game to it this year!

The game is called Straight Outta Tucson, and it’s a simple little affair; it’s completely free to download and play, and we may be seeing about putting it up on some print-on-demand services as a cost-and-shipping-only option if you want a professionally made copy.

And I wanted to talk a little bit about what was involved in making it.

First things first, we had a concept for it: The Anti-Bus. I took notes on that as follows:

Day 1

Theme: THE ANTI-BUS

thoughts:

social deduction game trying to work out who on the shift is trying to sabotage it based on who has a shift at the wheel. Look at secret hitler with a timer.

a deck deconstructor where you’re trying to empty out a bus of last year’s memes so it’s good to go.

A 18 card microgame of trying to push a crash onto another shift

a social communication game about trying to score points on the bus while avoiding The Prophecy of an Anti-Bus

And then:

Okay, homogenous plaay form. Single deck, you shuffle it up and go.

Each player looks at the top two cards and picks one to keep and one to give to ANY OTHER PLAYER.

Cards have a suit (shift)

cards have values that determine how good they are

At the end of your turn you can flip a card face up and have its effect. You can do this once per turn, so no barrage of cards.

suits have some standard effects (Arrive at destination, splat, and ‘driving time’).

arrive at destination is a great big reward

you can only score one arrive per hand, unless you have a driving time that matches the suit

crash cards cancel driving time cards

there’s an Anti Bus card that means you can’t win, so you always want to pass it off

at least one card, rotate the cushions, lets you swap a card away

Day 2

real ugly Q&D blocking out of the zones. Using the existing desert bus overlay vibe for how the cards should look, with the shift banners indicating suits. This whole thing may be only 45 cards or so to make p&p easy

Day 3

now I’m at the ‘fill out cards’ stage of things to make the game work. The plan is to make so that each suit has a specific vibe.

My notes at this point get sketchy. But I know the next thing I did after getting the card faces roughly dialed in, I made a paper prototype, with an ordinary deck of playing cards. As I played and decided the shifts needed to be important, I resolved to make the shifts more distinct, and give them unique traits.

At that point I had the structure, and thanks to having a structure i could turn to Fox for the most valuable, time-saving help: She built a scribus file that could output that structure. I put a spreadsheet in, and I got a pdf out. This is an amazing help and the thing is, that tool now means I can push my other designs a step ahead. Very cool.

From there, what we did was watched VST clips, reviewed the current Desert Bus, and, knowing a timetable was closing in on us, we put a bunch of memes and jokes in the cards to try and give us mechanics to work with…

… and then that was it. A simple little diary. And now you can check out the game product, for free!

So to recap the most major events of the beginning of the server, I really recommend watching Cielitremendi’s videos that recap the first 2 or 3 months on the server. They show a lot of the story and are able to get anyone hooked (these videos are what finally got me to join the fandom so I am living proof it worked). You can also watch the official QSMP lore recap channel: https://www.youtube.com/@QSMPInfo/videos if you just want more info without the amount of depth in Cielitremendi’s videos (I recommend both though since they both show important events that the other may have not mentioned)

Also, another important note is that Cielitremendi is no longer active as much and neither is QSMP Info (and we will not know if the admins running it will come back or not so it could be done for good but we have to wait and see) so to get information about more recent events (because I think the 2 just cover from March 2023 to somewhere in the summer of 2023), you might need to find a clip channel.

I really recommend maybe finding a clip channel to just be subbed to because they might have many videos about prior events that you might want to know more about and it will also update whenever an important event might happen on anyone’s stream. The best one I know of is Angry Thomas (Link: https://www.youtube.com/@AngryThomas). They are very good at showing important events that occur in QSMP and really prioritizes including the necessary POVs needed to understand it so if there is any event that you might want to know more of, I’m 92% he will have a video showing it.

Again though, this is more for finding out more about past events you might want to know more about. If you don’t want to get too much into the past and just want to start watching, you can start watching anytime with any of the streamers, but you just want to have one main streamer to watch then the streamer you choose to watch is your choice and there is no right or wrong answer. You just have to consider what languages you understand and possibly what content you are interested in. Are you a Portuguese-speaking lore head? (Recommend Cellbit and Bagi then). Are you a French-speaker obsessed with fighting and humor? (Then watch Etoiles). Are you a Spanish-speaker who just wants to watch a streamer who is active a good amount of time? (Then probably Roier is your best pick) Or are you just an English-speaker who is never sure when they can watch so they need a POV that is usually on for most of the day? (Then Bad or Tubbo is where you go).

I do still recommend knowing a clip channel you can check on to see recaps of events that might be going on for other characters, but besides that, I think this is all I can recommend for now :D.

Just know that you are entering a really creative but also very angsty fandom that is currently in a lot of discourse at the moment but we here at QSMPblr are determined to welcome any new faces and cheer each other up when needed and obsess over our lovable Minecraft cubitos together ☺️. WELCOME!
