because this has been stuck in my mind since I listened to the Ultimate RPG Podcast episode discussed here I just wanted to go over it:

Huge caveat that I'm not familiar with what work Friedman was referring to, so ultimately, I cannot judge if player agency was violated; my point is just to outline as best I can what I believe player agency means (and that this example does not clearly state the violation, which again, could have occurred and simply not been accurately described).

In the podcast, the example of player agency violation was a game in which all the characters had amnesia and had blank character sheets, and as they found out more about themselves, pre-recordings from other people (ie, not the players) would play. This was run in D&D.

This is not in my opinion automatically a violation of player agency! As D'Amato noted, this is the premise of some indie TTRPGs, and I would add that while this isn't the inherent premise of D&D, the fact that it was run in D&D doesn't mean it's violating player agency. It would be a violation if the players showed up with a fully made character sheet and the DM said "actually that's not who you are, here's a blank sheet." But if the players were told "so we're going to play a D&D game but you don't know who you are or anything about yourself - you will learn these details through gameplay. Sound cool?" and the players agreed (and safety tools are present, and by safety tools I include "players are allowed to just nope out", that's fine! If I lock you in a room in my house for an hour because I think you suck, that is violation of your agency; if I run an escape room and you say "hell yeah I'd like to do this" and voluntarily go in (and are told where the emergency exits are) and are locked in a room for an hour, that is fine.

Ultimately, the core of player agency is setting accurate expectations and getting consent. D'Amato also notes that it's very hard to tell if player agency is violated without being at the table and I would agree: if everyone at the table as described above agreed to that game, there is no violation of consent: they consented to playing an unknown character with amnesia and the DM creating their character for them. On the other hand, a super standard D&D game in which you fight a beholder is a violation of player agency if one of the players said "hey, I am really triggered by beholders, they upset me, and I don't want to have them in the game," and the DM said "ok, sounds good" and then threw one at the party and ignored the player's discomfort. It is not about letting players do anything they want; rather, it is about ensuring players understand the rules of engagement within this system and not violating that, nor needs of those players to which everyone has agreed (lines/veils, etc). [This is also why people whining about D&D not respecting player agency are stupid - if you agreed to D&D, you agreed to the rules of D&D. You can wish for a game that grants more freedom of action for player characters! That is not the same as player agency; indeed I think a lot of people conflate player agency and character agency.]

I think KolloK, at least as described, actually feels like FAR more of a violation of player agency. In the same podcast, Friedman notes that Zac Eubank has said that he is ultimately not at all focused on player experience during the game but rather on end product, which is at least a bad sign for respecting player needs and agency! I will again admit I watched an hour of KolloK and found it both utterly unimpressive unless you are easily wowed by camera filters, and also excruiciatingly boring (and also people talked about that set like it was not a blackbox theater with a slowly rotating rock. Emperor's New Clothes-ass situation) so I am disinclined to be generous towards it, but this really sounds like a pretty open and shut case of player agency not being prioritized (especially since there's explicitly not an open table policy). Now, we're in a murky area because I assume the players are all aware of this and like, were not forced at gunpoint to be on the show, but it's still Not Great in my opinion, particularly since the first example of the amnesiac D&D game sounds like it could be an incredibly fun and healthy experience and KolloK sounds grueling and unpleasant even if you agreed to it.

So just to recap:

Player agency: almost entirely a metagame concept. Do you abide by the rules of the game you and your players agreed to (even if those rules involve a degree of ceding character agency) and respect the safety tools agreed upon? But also: do you let players take a break without asking you? Do you explain why they can't do something they want to do in a way that treats them as people with brains and feelings?

Character agency: what can characters do within this game? Violating character agency is fine provided it does not violate player agency, ie, Dominate Person in D&D is fine as long as your player agreed to play D&D and did not nix this as an option in your session zero safety discussion.

Player agency is in no way compromised by any specific TTRPG system provided players are aware of the expectations of said system; Character agency can be. Players are real people and violating their agency is pretty unambiguously a problem; characters are not and violating their agency can be an important part of storytelling.

Now that you've had some time to cool down from the Fuckfest of Friday Night, I'm a little curious on what you think of MonoTV's whole deal, because I haven't seen anyone actually talk about it much and that makes me so upset because wow Dev somehow managed to get me to care about this piece of steel

Spoilers up to the end of CH2

Hey! Yeah, MonoTV, huh? With everything else going on, this thing kinda got pushed aside, but there's been some really interesting developments indeed. I agree though, it's genuinely pretty incredible dev managed to get me to care about what up to this point had been nothing but a device for plot and humor.

You know, I originally wanted to keep this brief to give my full thoughts on the full part 2 analysis I'm working on, but maybe it's better if I just talk about it in full here and just link to this post from that one. Let me start by the theory side, because that's easier for me to write about :v

While MonoTV's creation being connected to XF-Ture Tech was always a very real possibility, the confirmation that at least its personality drivers come from them is nice. And there doesn't seem to be any type of repurposing going on:

MonoTV: Whenever I make a decision, ultimately, I must make the choice that fulfills my purpose [to run the killing game until the death of every participant]. After all, that was why I was created.

While we don't fully understand how this all fits together yet, I'm glad XF is being brought up because that might mean Min content in the future? For me, please? :,D

Anyways. Having a clearly stated goal for the killing game (killing all the participants) is also pretty useful for theory-crafting purposes, so look forward to seeing that line referenced in mastermind discussions moving forward. Not to mention, the secondary purpose of MonoTV playing the villain, with the reasoning:

MonoTV: This so-called TV show is more about appearances than you'd think.

So... ignoring the weird phrasing of "so-called TV show" as opposed to just "TV show," because I will go crazy if I look too deep into that, the confirmation that the appearances of the killing game are important seem to confirm a suspicion Teruko had back in CH2 Ep2.

Teruko: And also, [MonoTV is designed the way it is] as a way to reference that "past killing game," right?

Assuming via context that she's talking about THH, MonoTV being specifically created and programmed to look and act sorta like Monokuma could have some interesting implications moving forward, especially given things like Duke Spurling being alive to see the Tragedy and maybe wanting a recreation of the THH killing game. Thankfully there's no character with a talent for recreating things, such as art, an art forger of some kind, because if there was this could realistically point to them as the mastermind. :)

Final note about theories: I... called it? Sort of?

[Extract from Vivisection of the David MV] What I think is the best idea [regarding the multi-colored "original"] is that all the characters [which includes MonoTV] got the word. [...] I think it makes more sense to relate them to the meaning of "original style" under my interpretation, where "original style" means a change of heart.

Well, MonoTV sure had a change of personality, albeit briefly, now didn't it? (Please ignore the fact that I dismissed the possibility of MonoTV changing in the lines following that one :p) Admittedly "characters in DRDT will have character development" is possibly my least wild theory ever, but a W is a W (?).

Alright but screw theorizing that's for insane people. Let's go for character analysis, because the fact that MonoTV has become a genuinely interesting creature to study is possibly even wilder than the XF-Ture Tech name drop.

Now, a lot of what we hear character wise is similar to stuff we heard in MonoTV's previous character building moment; CH2 EP3.

MonoTV: Does a toaster know why it toasts? Does a calculator know why it adds and subtracts? They are simply machines that do their job without needing to understand why. To that end, I don't know who made this TV show and why. All I do is carry out the directives programmed into me.

MonoTV: I have no conscience, no sense of morality, no will at all. I am merely a robot, subject to the laws of my code. I have no choice but to perform the actions that my creator dictated I must. [...] All the decisions I make were already decided by whatever entity created me, because I am a robot.

It's stated in a much more melancholic tone, given the music in the background, the sprite pose, and the generally less silly "default personality," but it's nothing really new. MonoTV is a machine, it follows programming.

Except.

MonoTV: Even if I feel pain or guilt, I cannot stop. That is the fate that I have, to make others suffer. And there is no diverging from that fate.

Hey MonoTV what the fuck does this mean.

"Even if I feel pain or guilt"? Instead of "I can't feel pain or guilt"? The choice of wording here is very interesting, because it seems to imply that MonoTV does feel pain and guilt over the killing game, regardless of how impossible that should be. The "fate" drop is pretty huge for thematic reasons, as I'm sure you're aware; Teruko explains her own feelings about it in the rest of the scene, there's Xander's speech to Teruko before he attempted to stab her, Ace talking about how he was too much of a coward to fight his fate, Arei actually defying a similar fate in a way, David with the LGI lyrics, Whit and J and Rose and so many other people, all interconnected by this damn concept. I think it'd be fine if this is all we hear about MonoTV in relation to it, but there's definitely fun parallels to explore regardless.

Given how little we have of these particular character details so far, there's not much I can say about it other than I love the concept of an AI being forced to do something it doesn't "want" to because of code, and I'm interested to see if MonoTV will act differently in the future. It's supposed to reset to its previous personality in the full reset, I imagine, but it's not like we can just ignore all the shit it said here. I'm very curious to see where dev takes this.

That said, I also wanted to point out how this vague allusion to feeling pain and guilt and possibly hopelessness against fate aren't the only feelings MonoTV exhibits. Because for some unfathomable reason, it seems to care about Teruko to an extent?

MonoTV: Is something the matter, Teruko? Everyone else has already left.

Like, maybe I'm misreading because the personality change is fucking with me, but this feels like a concern more genuine than I would expect from pre-2-16 MonoTV. And...

MonoTV: You have to decide the answer for yourself.

This, along with the little speech about Teruko's humanity that precedes it, again comes off as MonoTV genuinely trying to help her through her emotions. I don't see how this correlates with its purpose, unless it somehow "believes" that giving Teruko advice on this will somehow lead to Teruko killing someone or something to that effect, which makes no sense.

If it doesn't help kill the participants, isn't necessary for the killing game, and doesn't make MonoTV seem like a villain, then it's not related to any of its purposes. It isn't code making MonoTV say this things. It's MonoTV's... consciousness? I guess? It's very, very interesting.

I am genuinely super interested in where dev is taking MonoTV, and if you told me that was a sentence I would unironically type before this episode, I would have called you insane. The writing in this series is genuinely immaculate, I can't believe we're getting genuine basis for MonoTV angst and it's compelling. Dev does it again!

"Are you joking right now?" Sam asked, staring down at the sheer drop and swirling snow below them.

"Well, I know you're not getting the deja vu that I'm getting," Bucky said as he strapped his grappling line to Sam's. "Get on my back and please keep your arms inside the ride at all times. The replacement merch is cool, but not recommended."

Sam glared at him. Bucky didn't need to be able to see through the snow goggles to tell when Sam was glaring at him. As if this was Bucky's idea of a good time. It wasn't his fault there was one way down right now and they didn't have the supplies, or the body heat, to argue about it.

Sam tried to fire up his jetpack again, but the thing was completely frozen over, just like it had been five minutes ago. When Sam had tried to leave it on a low simmer earlier, the whole thing had started to smoke, so they'd nixed that defrosting idea.

"You cannot climb down this cliff," Sam insisted again. "And especially not while you're carrying me."

"You can't climb down it at all," Bucky said. "So this is our only option. We don't have to get all the way down, just below this weather system and back to the foot path."

Which, really, he should keep climbing after that. They really didn't have the provisions to finish the hike down the long way.

"You can't climb through a blizzard!" Sam insisted.

"That is hardly a blizzard. Louisiana mindsets, I swear to God. You know, there was one winter in Brooklyn where it didn't get above--"

Sam smacked a gloved hand over Bucky's mouth. Bucky held up two climbing axes instead of trying to speak. He started in on his shit again when Sam dropped his hand though.

"I didn't ask you to tackle me out of the helicopter." It was how they ended up in the middle of a snow storm two miles high. It was about the same time they realized the wings weren't working.

"Oh, should I have let the knife finish sinking into your face?" Sam asked. Okay, the helicopters had been full of bad guys who also didn't want Sam and Bucky on their ride.

"I was fine. I would've stopped him."

"You would not have. That guy was over powering you."

"Ice got in the plates," Bucky said. He was pretty sure that wasn't possible. His core temperature should've melted any errant intrusions. "I wasn't functioning at my highest. I would've figured it out. Now we're on top of a mountain and about to become ice sculptures. Please get on my back."

He put his facemask on, as if that would stop him from arguing. It hadn't at any other point in this mission. Sam mimicked, pointedly.

"We're going to fall to our deaths," he continued to argue, muffled through layers of protective warmth.

"I'm not going to let you fall," Bucky insisted. Assuming his lines held (and he was the fucking Winter Soldier, his lines were going to hold) neither of them were going to fall. If they slipped, they may be dashed against the side of the mountain, but that wasn't falling. As someone with experience in both things, Bucky had opinions on what was more survivable.

He aligned himself with his first foothold and sank the axe into the ice with a sharp crack. Sam stared at him, irritated, but eventually relented when Bucky continued to cling to the cliff's edge stubbornly.

"Don't drop me," he ordered.

"You'll have to connect your harness to mine," Bucky said as Sam began to climb over his shoulders and onto his back. "They're heavy-duty, so one on each shoulder and one by your waist."

"Bucky, this is a very dumb idea," Sam repeated one more time.

"Your complaints have been received and noted. If this all goes very wrong, you'll be highly vindicated in the history books."

As soon as Sam's weight was settled across his back, Bucky began to climb down. This was a very stupid idea, indeed.

"Hey, just in case these are my last words 'cause my vocal cords froze over or something, I really liked everything we did together. Even the shit I hated. Like this."

"Well, now we have to survive because those were terrible last words," Sam said, even more muffled now that his face was pressed to Bucky's neck. Well, as close to Bucky's neck as he could get through the winter layers. "Thanks, though. Y'know. For not leaving me on top of a mountain."

"Well, if I couldn't pass the time by arguing with you, it'd be a much longer descent."

"So much for your last words."

The snow picked up suddenly and Bucky found himself pressing into the rock face. He was going to lose his holding and certainly his footing if he tried to move right then. The wind howled, something deep and mechanical and rhythmic.

Oh, what the hell? The universe was laughing at him.

"Hey, you two need a ride?" Torres asked over a loud speaker, coming out of the storm in some stealthy little thing. "Or is this some kind of new intense couple's bonding thing?"

"You're joking right now?" Bucky called, though Torres definitely couldn't hear him.

They made quick work of cutting the lines and getting into Torres's little hovercraft. Sam laid on the floor, panting and squeezing his eyes shut like he kept expecting to open them and be outside again.

"I could've totally gone at least another mile down," Bucky insisted to no one at all.

"Are you kidding right now?" Torres asked.

Sam threw a balled up coat at him. And then laughed.

Donnie: Dear Angelo, that figure is made of literally 100% plastic so once Papa is gonna make a tea it will definitely m-

Leo put his hand on twin's mouth before he could say anything that would upset their little brother.

Leo: No need to buzzkill Dee (Donnie growled at that, but Leo continued), I mean everything is fine. No harm do-OW!

Suddenly Leo yelped in mid-sentence as he felt a sharp pain on right foot. He let go off Donnie's mouth and instinctively grabbed Adriaen and used him as his crutch. Adri didn't hesitate to help as he startled by slider's painful cry.

Raph: Leo! Leo are you okay?

Leo: Ow my foot hurts.

Adri: You're bleeding!

Indeed Leo's foot was bleeding small drops. It wasn't anything serious but poor little Mikey who had no idea panicked.

Mikey: Waahhh Leo is gonna die!😭

Donnie: Don't be ridiculous Mikey, Leo just accidentally cut himself. Probably from the missing piece. (Though he couldn't stop shaking from anxiety at the sight of blood)

Leo: Yeah, don't worry Angie. I'll be fine

Raph: That's right. But first we need treat your wound. Adriaen, could you bring a first aid kit please?

Adri: On it.

So they clean Leo's wound and put a cool Jupiter Jim blue bandage on it. They looked for the missing piece, but couldn't find it anywhere. Donnie said after looking that his dum dum brother must have kicked it away when he stepped on it and freaked out (Leo protested on that last part). They decided to let it go and went to sleep as it was getting late. And besides they already solved the teapot disaster.

Everything was fine.

Everything was NOT fine. Oh they had no idea how everything is not fine. Why? Because the next day at morning during breakfast, the boys Raph, Donnie, Mikey along with their dad followed a distressed Adriaen who couldn't stop chirping in panic as he dragged them to Leo's room to find their red eared slider brother in question, lying on floor next to vomit with sweating face burning red from high fever.

So you know how I said something about writing a fic inspired by your existence. I've started a little, but I don't know, I fear that the way I write might be confusing in some parts. So I'd very much like to hear your thoughts, if you want to share them

What if you’ve met them now? Vox thought, discreetly, not at all looking into Alastor’s lovely red eyes. Shoot! Vox downed another drink, hopping Al didn’t think him weird. Still, can’t leave a friend hanging, say something.

“I love you.” WHAT!!? NO! NOT THAT! “I- I- I mean, there is someone I love.?” Yeah, sure, he’s totally gonna buy that.

“I- Good for you?” Alastor started unfiltered, surprised, before going back to his normal, lovely radio voice. “And who might that be, my good fellow?” Wait, he bought it? No, don’t be an idiot! He’s totally psyching us out! Well, I’ll play your game and I’ll win!

“You know, just a cool dude with the pretties’ eyes and loveliest smile.”

“A dude?” Alastor questioned. Wait. Why does he sound so confused over that? Did- he had actually bought it?! Wait. We just told him we like guys, right? Is that, bad? What if he hates us now? What if he thinks we’re weird? Awful? Repugnant? There’s no way he doesn’t know we love him now! Practically said it to his face twice! Twice! No! I can’t handle that! Please! I- we have to save this.

“Hey Al, just forget I said anything.” Please. You’re the best thing in my life. So, whatever happens, please, stay. I need you. ___

I feel I need to rework some of the above parts, but unsure off how. Regardless, I hope my characterisation so far is good, I'd imagine that the love Vox has is more an obsession that genuine care and Al is just living his best life having fun and not really picking up anything Vox is putting down. I especially like this little exchange:

Hello again!

So, uh, hey there, long time no see. I, too, did not expect that, when I said I would be taking a 'hiatus' around the beginning of November that this 'hiatus' would extend into a month of almost radio silence. So... uhh... sorry about that, I guess?

So Terastallized! Right, that thing that I'm writing. It's going; I've not abandoned it - nor would I ever, unless something wild came up, and while this last month may have been pretty crazy, it wasn't quite that crazy. I'm also thinking I may return to writing it in the near future, as I played like, approximately one (1) hour of Scarlet last night and immediately went 'I'm thinking I'm back', and indeed, I do care to argue that I am so back.

So there might be an update, in the near future! I know the first in-game day has taken a WHILE, and I'm sorry to say there's probably about two chapters left of it. After that, though, things will begin to move a bit more quickly, and the second half of The Flowers of Fall will actually progress the narrative. I realize it's been the better part of 100,000 words and we've not moved beyond the first day, and, uh, yeah I'm sorry about that I'm not a very concise writer? It's kind of my thing. Also, there's just so much to get through with setting up characters and plot threads.

Moving on, I do have one new piece of content to share with you all, though this one wasn't made by me! I would like very much to present to you all some artwork I commissioned of the girl, the myth, the weird psychic music cryptid, Helia herself! It's by @ pkmn_realidea on Twitter who is really cool and makes super awesome stuff.

She's so cool and I love her. I hope you do too!

Hopefully, there'll be some new story to go with her in the near future. I'll see you then (or when google docs inevitably drives me up an Arceus-damned wall (again), whichever comes first).

Hey Mick, do you like to play video games? If so, what are some of your favourites? (Assuming you're in an era that has them. Sometimes you exist in the 1930s-1950s, it can be pretty confusing).

There's a specific video game on my mind that I really think you'd like. I won't say what it is, but it's a platformer that's infamous for being a REALLY difficult rage game. But that's not the reason I ask you about it. In fact, the protagonists of the game, who have cups for heads, have...well...a familiar likeness that I think you'd find interesting.

Yep, I am indeed aware of video games. Though I'm a bit confused 'bout the implications that I've lived in the 1930's to 1950's? I mean, I've been told that I have an old soul every now and then, but never that I was actually that old, ha ha. I dunno what year it is for you, but for me it's 2025.

But back to your question, I love video games! All sorts, actually. I actually just finished a really good one 'bout a really cool explorer who travels the world and goes on all sorts of adventures. I actually got into it since it reminded me of a new friend I made 😊, but I think I might wanna check out the whole series. I also remember lovin' this one game where you help a professor solve a bunch of puzzles and riddles in order to figure out the mystery at the center. I guess it would make sense for me to like games with a bit of mystery. Though I might've taken it a bit too far. I thought it would be a fun idea to have my friends solve puzzles in order to ask favors. They did not like that 😅.

Oh, I can't forget the fighting game that Donald and I played ever since we were kids. In fact, we played it so much that we ended up makin' our own rules and games... within that game, ha ha. I believe I have the most wins overall, though Donny would say otherwise. Accordin' to him, me usin' a certain character and "spammin'" their special move "doesn't count". But in my opinion, if it's in the game, it's not cheatin'. Sometimes we end up fightin' more outside the game than in, but if things get too heated, Goofy and Minnie usually save the day with a party game we can all play 😆.

As for the game you recommended, it's been a while since I played platformers, but I don't see why I can't get back into 'em. I think I actually heard of the game you're talkin' 'bout. You're not the only one to say that I might connect to it. I guess at the point, I gotta check it out then.

Hey Del!!! glad you enjoyed by abundant activity the other day, arising from my intent to completely ignore an online lecture! I haven't been as active as I used to be on here since I moved over to Edi, mainly because uni has been keeping me fairly busy, but I'm glad to hear from ya and see ya when you come up on my dash! (fun fact- most of the times when I will mysteriously become active for 2-3 twenty minute periods at an exorbitantly late time GMT, I AM indeed blogging between periods of Vancouver Canucks games (its like a treat))

Edinburgh has been treating me pretty well! its not too cold, but somehow still exactly as cold as I wanted it to be when I decided to make the move over here. I've fallen in love with the local arthouse theatre, so I've ended up spending most of my time there recently seeing all of their re-screenings of like bad horror movies and John Waters films. my classes are also pretty chill- I didn't expect my film degree to be that awful, but its a fairly small degree here, and kind of a small group driven degree, so thats pretty nice, especially since the other people in my degree are cool (not all american film bro-esque. I constantly thank god that I did not go to film school in the states. I would have killed myself if I had to explain shit to fucking film bros). I've taken up curling recently too, and I really enjoy it so far! I'm glad that I can at least have one ice sport I can play, since I can't skate well enough to play hockey yet (though I try and get out to watch the local SNL level and uni league games when I can!). its been really nice so far, since I'm able to just exist in a cool city with cool people around me making art that I'm interested in- kinda the childhood dream come true :]]

OK, so it turns out that when you've got a B&B the Christmas season is hella busy - which seems like something that should have been obvious. But yeah, the wife and I have been run off our feet.

But, I've finally had a chance to play the game so let's get into it!

Not gonna lie, this hits a bit too close to home, we just started the game and the kitchen sink is already broken!

Hi!! First off, thank you so much for this ask! 🫶🏻

The BB pods here are both from the Kojima Productions store, the yellow one is the latest version, and the Higgs one is the first iteration. The light didn’t work very well one that one (got it used), so I decided to go ahead and DIY my own Higgs pod. I dissembled and painted it, and it turned out pretty well. There’s a couple things I’d do differently this time, but ah well 😅

The Fragile case was an old tool box I had luring around, the tamper tape was regular old duct tape I spray painted yellow and hand drew the font on, and then the white tamper sticker was just a piece of paper I printed out and stuck to the case. It all looks good from afar, but don’t get too close 😂

Thoughts on Solo Leveling Episode 6: The Real Hunt Begins

Oooh more Go Gunhee and Woo Jinchul! It's fun to see how much more they're showing up, even more than in the manhwa! Jinchul looks really nice.

lakjdalj I know when Jinchul says, "Would it be all right if I asked for a bit of instruction? . . . It might be the kind of change of pace you need, too." (smile) he's saying, "let's spar" (it's a martial arts thing), but alkdjlaj I love this addition to the cute flirtiness of their relationship. It's very sweet. The novel gave us Gunhee asking Jinchul out for drinks, and now Jinchul is like, "let's spar :3". It's so cute.

Jinwoo v the dungeon boss is pretty cool. It's neat to see Jinwoo move so much, and the animation is gorgeous.

Jinwoo's jacket is giving me Seragaki Aoba DRAMAtical Murder vibes with its ridiculously wide collar lol (Doesn't help they're both that same bright blue).

Gunhee's fond gaze as he faces Jinchul :3 Also it's neat to see Gunhee fight. We're not getting to the Frost Monarch this season, so it's a nice little preview of hopefully future seasons.

Ellis: Uh… and that would help, how…? Are you gonna, like, put them in solitary confinement or something?

Grace: No, I’ll only know to keep an eye on them. And, I suppose, from a more selfish point of view… if I keep my guard up around them, if they do kill, I won’t be the one becoming a victim.” Glad to see everyone’s still being so strategic about the killing game, it’s a fun aspect of this cast :)

Mark: Can we really be sure…?” Hmm… I wonder…

“Ellis: I do.

Ellis: I mean– I… I do declare, that is Davis I see! Standing at the end of the aisle! Looking like the most breathta– I mean– best guy for the job… of investigating!

“Most best guy for the job?” You did not do the most best job on that one, Ellis.” Alright this is hilarious xD Watching Ellis try not to flirt with Davis ‘cuz it makes him uncomfortable, even though the Ultimate Bachelor talent is working against her, is equal parts funny and kinda wholesome in a way.

“Davis: Do you want to get married, someday?

Ellis: H-huh?

That was not the question I was expecting him to hit me with.

Ellis: Uh… I mean, not really. I’d rather stay free, y’know? I’m too much of a hot commodity to stay committed to just one lucky soul.” Hell of a conversation to have in a killing game of all places, but Ellis’ answer makes perfect sense :)

{Also yes for anyone keeping count that is in fact the third scene this part where two characters with the same color by my color coding speak back to back, ruining the Aesthetic. How does this keep happening so often}

“Ellis: I… get the sense that you would?

Davis: …Yeah. I’d really love to, someday.

Ellis: If you put your mind to it, I’m sure it’ll come true. After all, you’re… you.

Davis: Yeah. Me. 

He doesn’t look too happy about that.

Davis: It’s never going to work out that way…” What is up with Davis anyways? He feels like he has a lot of shit going on that we’re not seeing yet. Interesting guy, this one.

“Paris appears to be instructing Taylor as to how to take a perfect picture here in the Gardens.” The besties!!!

“Taylor: Still, I definitely don’t want to let you down. I promise, I’ll become the perfect photographer in no time!

[Pool description] Ah, there’s the other potential murder location! I did think there was a pool that’d been mentioned at some point.

“Ellis: So then, does this place pass the certified Jeff vibe check?

Jeff: Well, on the whole, the vibe’s definitely still bad. But here, it’s easier to ignore. Feels like home, y’know?” Watch him get killed in the pool lol. But I do appreciate the “vibe check” coming back from the FTE, it’s something that’s really cool about this format :)

“Jeff: Now that there’s so much more space, if I don’t want to do something, I can just leave!” Certified Jeff moment.

“Jeff: Yeah. I’m sure I’ll get bored of it eventually, though. Honestly, if we get new stuff any time someone kills, the killers should hurry up already…” Wow people in this killing game really want to speedrun the entire thing huh? It’s kinda funny :p

“Vivi: Really? Didn’t you ever have one of those vacations where you went to some beach town, rented out a little house and had fun with your family? We used to do it all the time!” LOORE- I gotta, like, stop screaming that every time a backstory piece gets dropped huh xD

“Vivi: Man, I hope I get to see them again soon. Family vacations were always the best. 

Noah: Really? I mean, it’s nice to spend time with the people you care about, but it can get kinda… tense, right?

Vivi: Does it?

Noah: …I guess, maybe it doesn’t for everyone.

Ellis: See, that’s why it’s best to come with a bunch of friends! Although, I’d also get whatever was the most top-tier option here, obviously.

Noah: Yeah…! Going with friends… that’s where it’s at.

Vivi looks at the two of us, puzzled.

Vivi: If you say so…” Ah, the eternal dichotomy of the family person and the friends person. Fun. Anyways, I guess we found out why Noah and his sisters don’t hang out much :p

“…I don’t spend much time inspecting the other houses. Maybe that decision will come back to bite me someday, but… no it won’t! I’m the Ultimate Lucky Student! If I’m not going, there must be nothing of importance in there.” Gotta love that reasoning xD

“Vanessa: Everyone else is trying to just pretend that nothing happened… Why? Why would they do that…?

Ellis: Uh…

I’m not… equipped… to answer that question…?” Poor Ness, what the hell can Ellis even say about that?

“Robert: To me, it’s more of a question of how. You’re all so impressive, able to carry on as though nothing bad has happened. I could never do that…” Oh, hey, it’s that thing from the Bonus Scene! Cool!

“Ellis: Y’know… just… don’t think about it!” Alright Whit Young calm it down now /silly

“I try not to think about Antonia. Or Cass. Or Cass’ torso. Or Cass’ arms. Or Cass’--“ Bruh.

“Vanessa: But isn’t that, like, super disrespectful to them? Even if Toni left me behind, I’m still upset that she’s gone…!

Ellis: Aw, come on… wouldn’t Antonia… rather that you have a happy smile and a fun time, even while she’s gone, or… something like that?” Well, they sure are trying!

“Since the last time I was here, the Show Room’s completely changed. While last time it had a prison-like aesthetic with brick walls and shackles, this time it’s set up to look more like a dreary hill with fading grass. On the grass, though, there are several blank tombstones scattered around the room with graves dug out in front of them.” I’m… confused, I’m not gonna lie. The Show Room didn’t really come up in the first trial, and it’s unlikely it’ll come up again now (even if someone took the handcuffs, they could also just order some from the Customer Service Desk), which leads me to believe there’s some grander meaning to this thing than just a cool set piece for murder mysteries.

If it’s some kind of lore meaning, we’ll probably have to wait until future chapters for a clearer picture of what’s going on, but it could also be some kind of symbolism thing. Like, in the first chapter, they were just dealing with imprisonment, but now they’re also dealing with death? Though in CH1 the thing that really got Cass killed was suspicion and all that. And I don’t know what future chapters would be under this reading.

… I am overthinking this too much, even for my standards xD

“Aidan’s climbing out of one [of the graves]” Huh??? Alright not only is that kinda funny, I’m also slightly worried that might be foreshadowing Aidan being put in a grave this chapter. Hopefully it’s a false alarm though.

“Kennedy: Of course it’s dreary… because it’s all connected!

Aidan: Oh god, here we go again…

Kennedy: The room must connect to the new motive! Something with death… This one will be harrowing for sure.” And how have we arrived at this conclusion???

“Aidan: There are only eleven graves.

Ellis: Huh. Weirdly specific number.” It really is. I mean, it’s the number of deaths stipulated in the Prediction Game format, which is one victim and killer per CH over 5 CH with two victims in CH3, so it tracks. The question is why the killing game organizers would actually put eleven graves there.

Like, the rules aren’t set up for five survivors, and the THH game had six so it’s not that the MM’s going for a Junko recreation, so it’s just a very odd number to imply with the eleven graves. It’s also not that this is one of the 52 killing games prior to V3, because if I recall correctly only THH knowledge is required to understand One Shot.

Did the previous killing games mentioned in One Shot also have 5 survivors? How? Does that make any sense? So many questions… Maybe I should let Kennedy keep talking so I sound slightly less insane by comparison.

“Kennedy: If there are three fewer graves than participants, then… hmm… then there may be two traitors alongside the mastermind!” You still don’t get five survivors even if you do one mm + 2 traitors + 1 true survivor, but I do love the idea of Kennedy adding a traitor to her calculations every chapter. By the time CH5 rolls around he’s thinking half the cast are traitors xD

[Kennedy FTE] LET’S GO!!! Kennedy FTE!!!

“Kennedy: Sixteen adults, not students, and yet, we’re participating in a “killing game” with titles modeled off of Hope’s Peak Academy… What does it all mean?

Ellis: Somebody’s a… what’s it called? “Weeb?”

Kennedy: So you think they’re fans of Japanese culture? It’s definitely possible, but then there’s the question of why they would pick specifically Hope’s Peak. Monoquin is even called a Headmaster, even though we’re not at a school.

Ellis: People have called me a “head master,” if you catch my drift.

Kennedy: …

They decide to ignore my comment. Noted: poor listener.” Already some fun ideas being thrown around, and Ellis is not letting one go as usual xD

“Ellis: Oh yeah? And you don’t think that the whole stupid mystery court case simulator implies that our mastermind here gets off on having people spin their wheels on these dumb riddles? What if you’re the one playing into their hands?

Kennedy: …

They point at me.

Kennedy: That’s a good theory. I want to hear more about that.” xD Ellis’ just too good.

“Kennedy: Don’t get complacent. If you accept the answer that’s too obvious, you’re sure to get it wrong.

Ellis: Jeez, grading your tests must’ve been a nightmare, huh?

Kennedy: Tests are pointless. They’re trying to teach you that there’s only one answer and one way to get there.” Kennedy really is a fascinating person to hear speak. Because they’re so unbelievably insane that it’s hard to take anything they say seriously, but their insanity stems from genuinely sound principles like endless curiosity and lateral thinking, which means they sometimes make a lot of sense. It’s fun :D

“Ellis: You need to relax. Thinking about all this crazy stuff all the time has gotta be bad for your, I dunno… vibes.

Kennedy: Oh, don’t worry about that. Theorizing is my talent, isn’t it? I can do this all day.” Interesting that the one thing they take at face value is their talent, which is still something the mm gave him. Makes sense, though, since it’s a skill intrinsic to her person.

“Kennedy: I know the best spots to hide my writing from the cameras in my room.” Wait, didn’t I say I would do this?!?! I’ve made posts talking about what I would do in a killing game, and one of the things I mentioned was writing plans to escape on paper and outside the view of the cameras! I am in this fangan and I don’t like it!!! (/silly, I actually find it pretty enjoyable that there’s a character who has a lot of the same ideas as me, even if it’s Kennedy fucking Rey xD)

“Taylor: Yeah, I know what you mean. Antonia might’ve signed up to die, in a way, but Cass, at least…

Paris: I don’t think it’s disrespectful at all. If they were here and we were dead, they’d totally be taking advantage of it too! Hate to say it, but we’re all competitors here, right? And this means we’re one step closer to winning. Right, Tay?

Taylor: Er, uh, right! You’re right, Paris…” Alright Taylor’s gotta… they’ve gotta do something with those identity issues they got going on. This is getting serious now (I love it :D)

“Paris: Uh, duh! I couldn’t possibly leave my new bestie behind~

Taylor: Oh, uh… do we know if that’s allowed…?” I have never felt more worried for someone’s safety as I am now feeling for Taylor’s. Maybe this is completely innocent, but Paris is ringing a hell of a lot of alarm bells in my head. Do we think she’s gonna backstab Taylor this chapter or the next, or even further after that? Place your bets!

“Davis: …I guess it makes sense that everyone’s starting to think about how to win, huh? The whole “let’s get out of here together” thing couldn’t last forever.” Yeah it was never gonna go great with this cast was it :p

“What I’m doing is completely ethical! It’s not like the world’s biggest big shots didn’t reach the top by stepping over some scrubs. Sure, maybe those scrubs aren’t usually literal corpses, but that doesn’t make my eventual victory any less valid. I can look past that, straight through my heart-shaped sunglasses.

You can’t judge me for that. You can’t. Antonia, and Cass… I’m doing nothing wrong.” How long do we think the denial’s gonna last btw? No idea on my end tbh.

Well, that was an exciting start to the chapter! People already seem to be breaking down a lot, which is always fun to see. Paris is possibly manipulating Taylor, Noah is barely keeping it together, Kennedy’s losing it and possibly dragging Vivi with her, Ness and Robert are grieving, Jeff is Vibing, it’s great. 🚨ANNOUNCEMENT!🚨

This is the first weekly smiles!! On our Tumblr account!! I'm sure your all excited just as much as I am! But I'll give some background information for those of you who might not know what happened!

On August 1st I came on Instagram and saw a screen pop up saying "We have suspended your Instagram account " I worried do an appeal I put in all my information yada yada and Instagram Refused the appeal and our Instagram account got deleted.. fun now we're going to back up a few months! I started a thing called Weekly Smiles, where I share my week and what made me smile that week (pretty self-explanatory), and after many weeks, I had gotten up to 35 before the account got deleted, and since then, I've been filled with rage that all my hard work has gone down in the drain. It's not fun, but I have accepted it as a challenge to make it to even more weeks that I can write down! And share with all of y'all on Tumblr. I'm not even sure if Tumblr is popular, but I'm willing as this is the only app I can share my thoughts without the haunting thought of my account getting deleted. So this is the first week out of 35! We can do this! Now I'll let you get on to your reading! By!

What made me smile this week?

Monday, 7/29/24 - today, we sadly had a dentist appointment which sucked, but the people there were nice! We had fun conversations about literally everything! I hated the Fluoride but survived! We also got a different X-ray, and it was cool, but sadly, we still had to get the side X-rays, which they could do, but it was certainly uncomfortable! We then laughed a bunch later on and Donny got a jackpot!!! (100,000)! Made me smile!

Tuesday, 7/30/24 - today, we heard our dad yelling since Moxie peed all over the couch, and he got fed up, but hey, we woke up early and just did laundry. We have been laughing while playing with Snapchat filters, and big Donny got a new high score of 30 million!! Super proud and it made me smile!

Wednesday, 7/31/24 - we found a new take called Animal Warfare!! I've been playing this the whole day, and it's been a blast. It made me smile! And we also got woken up to our dad yelling and cussing again, sadly, because Moxie peed all over him, his pillows, and the couch, which sucks, and it didn't make us smile..but we are finding good out of today!

Thursday, 8/1/24 - we started the day off doing dishes, and then our whole Instagram account got deleted, which sucks a$$. But we were laughing earlier and had yummy pigs in a blanket! It made me smile, but I also cried today, so not much. We have created a Tumblr and cannot wait for the first weekly smiles to come out! And the fact that there's a way bigger word limit makes me smile! As I can write longer weekly smiles!

Friday, 8/2/24 - Hello everyone! I want to tell you all about the senior sunset that we went to today! At the beginning of the event, we had a little bit of rain and lighting, so we needed to seek shelter in the beginning. When the rain settled down, we went to a sweet arrangement of sweet treats! We got a lot of yummy food and treats *as shown in the pictures!* Later on, we got real food, lol, and got a slice of pizza, or at least Sydney and Willam (my friends), and I just got a Gatorade! We had a fun time, and then we headed down to the funner area where the bracelets were originally 10$, but they had a deal, and they were only 5$! We had a blast seeing Mrs. Faircloth getting dunked! And going inside a bounce house, of course, Matthew did since I obviously cannot walk! Lol, we chilled out for a bit, Got a Mountain Dew, and watched the soccer players play a cool soccer game! *As shown on video* we then chilled until our ride arrived, and we went home around 11:00. We had a blast, and it was an amazing event! And it made us smile indeed!

Saturday 8/3/24 - today is two days before our birthday!!! We got a cool birthday card that contained 20$, and then we got to order Burger King (don't hate us Burger King haters). We got a Whopper, a large Dr pepper, a Large Fry, and an Oreo milkshake and tried a new drink called Fiery Pink Sprite thing. It wasn't the best but it also wasn't bad either. We watched the movie “Lisa's Frankenstein”. We couldn't watch the rest since it was a little bit inappropriate but we did enjoy part of the movie we could watch :) we sat and chilled and ate the rest of our food and sang! We had a blast today and it made me smile!

Sunday, 8/4/24 - IT'S A DAY BEFORE OUR BIRTHDAY 🎂!!! I'm so excited and cannot wait for more birthday festivities to begin!! I woke up at 5:38 Am which is weird since I never wake up that early! But I just watched reels and had a fun time just laughing with friends. So far, it has been a pretty good day! And it made me smile
