Bellara's main choice and DAV's implicit (or accidental) stance on book burning

Okay, so. Prefacing this with -- I enjoyed the game. I'd even play it again. That being said, one of its biggest flaws is trying to deliver something so morally sanitized it shies away from giving its characters (aside from Solas) and plotlines (aside from Solas's) real nuance. And in the same breath, they end up sending messages that I doubt they intended to send.

Bellara's main decision is particularly annoying to me.

First, I find her arc to be lacking -- She starts the game grieving her brother and blaming herself for his death despite not being responsible for it, then she finds Cyrian again only to grieve him again, so she's back to the start, only this time she has had the guilt removed from her because Cyrian tells her what she needs to hear, and the blame is placed on a big bad evil. Fair, fine.

But I don't like the cinematography of that scene at all. There was plenty of time for Rook and Bellara to react between Anaris grabbing Cyrian's foot and throwing him at the wall. People in Thedas have survived way worse injuries, too, and Bellara literally has healing at her disposal. Why doesn't she even try? His death is clearly plot-driven but it doesn't take her arc forward all that much? But again, that's fine. Not too bad.

But then the choice I have to make for her is whether or not to keep the archive, why? At no point in the game (please correct me if I'm wrong and missed canon information that contradicts me. That would make me way less angry!!!) do they tell us that it was Bellara using the Archive that summoned Anaris, or that it could summon him at will. As far as my interpretation goes, the Archive is, as its name says, the equivalent to a library curated by a comically self-aggrandizing jerk. At no point do we hear it share any actually dangerous lore either, do we? No blueprints for nuclear weapons...

So why does the game choose this wording:

Now, unless the Archive has powers we are unaware of, what this is saying is basically "burn the ancient elven library (it will be safe)" or "don't burn the ancient elven library (it will be dangerous)" and, for a game that is so irritatingly set on giving you only 2024-morality-board-approved goodTM and unproblematic companions and allies... Why does it tell me that burning books is the safe option, ESPECIALLY given that these books are priceless historical artefacts from a marginalized and subjugated ethinic group who have long lost their history to genocide? Like, wut?? Even if the Archive were in fact a dangerous weapon, the game shows us through the Veil Jumpers' vault that they have trained capable scholars and developed (or are developing, with Bellara spearheading it) safe tools to study and keep these artefacts. How condescending is it to tell them that they won't be able to safekeep this one? How pointless? (and her cutest armor AND best skill are locked behind that choice? outrageous lmao.)

And what pisses me off is that they had everything set up already, they just had to deliver it differently. If they told us explicitly that the archive is Anaris' phylactery and that keeping it would mean allowing Anaris to eventually come back? THEN we'd have a real danger. NOW there is a non-fascist risk to maintaining knowledge.

Or what if the only reason Cyrian is back is because Anaris brought him back? What if Cyrian's life is therefore tied to Anaris', and you had to choose between letting Anaris live (perhaps that results in him getting imprisoned in the Archive, tampering with the information in it and destroying its historical value forever, plus Anaris might one day figure out a way out) or killing Anaris for good even knowing that Cyrian will also die again if you do (but then the Dalish get to keep the archive and all the knowledge in it, and Cyrian's sacrifice is not in vain)? Or maybe... The Archive is a spirit, isn't it? Drive home the fact that being tied to that device was a cruel thing Anaris did to it, and keeping it there is just as cruel, even if it would mean giving the elves access to information. Make the wording "free the archive" really mean something here, and the player really think that the knowledge will be lost. Then maybe have it that, if she frees it, it gives her information freely and with its own interpretation of that knowledge, and THEN it leaves (so it's not forever but there is a reward for being compassionate). And if she keeps the spirit in the device, then it is always rude and it gives her information curated by Anaris' point of view, but it is available to all upcoming generations. It'd be real nice and nuanced to pit her compassion against her drive for knowledge. If this were DAO or DA2, you wouldn't make the choice FOR HER. You'd make the choice yourself because you are the leader, and if you chose to keep the spirit, you'd garner lots of negative points with Bellara (and with Emmrich) because, let's be honest, she is written as inherently more compassionate than driven, and she'd resent you making an oppressing choice even if it is well-meaning and good for her people (just like Alistair resents you killing Isolde even if he understands it was a difficult choice).

I just... So many ways it could have been an actually weighted choice, or that it could have affected your relationship with Bellara (and other companions) as Bioware RPGs were wont to do. They had a good set up, but the landing was absolutely bonkers.

Incoming Marble Sky theory about the Marmors' origin planet and more! Spoilers ahead!

I think if we ever get to see their original planet, it might be a dark place (literally and metaphorically), with hives or cities built within ant-like cave systems. Their society also seems to work like those of ants with a queen (Moon), workers and drones.

I think the fact that the Marmors use a form of ecolocation rather than our traditional eyesight might imply that on their original planet, sight as we know it is not a viable option. Their planet might either have little to no light, making eyes redundant, or too much, which would also cause the same problem. I think their fur coloring might also be proof of this, as they seem to display bright colors with no patterns. (Patterns usually help animals, especially predators, blend into their environment, because a blotch of a single color is usually easy to spot). However, there is also a possibility that their coloring might be a result of them becoming the dominant species: We see this with domesticated animals- think cows or cats, with white patches of fur, that make them easier to spot. When colors no longer affect their survival, new color variations tend to pop up.

I also think the fact that they are bipedal (with tails) also tells us that like humans, they might have started walking on all fours and then went up. This allows the brain to become larger, because the neck can hold up more weight, boosting their intelligence. Animals that walk on all fours are usually limited in this aspect because the neck muscles do all the work, so their heads can't get heavier.

The existence of tails might imply that those are still required for balancing purposes. Humans used to have tails but we kinda didn't need them and they went away, but the tail bone still exists. The fact that Marmors still needed them might imply that they still had to climb a lot in their original planet - maybe they live on trees (there's some ants that build their hives hanging from them! Super cool tbh) or they build their homes on cliffs/mountains.

I personally think them living in mountains or cave systems is the more likely option. In the comic we have already gotten the comparison with ants, who tend to build their little hives with tunnel systems going in all directions. This would make their tails useful for climbing, as well as their special eyesight and connections useful for navigating the hive. I mean, a connection like the one we have seen in the latest update is not only useful for hunting but also for their hives, as they can quickly figure out where more "manpower" is needed vs where there's already enough of them in one place.

Also, they have both sharp claws and teeth. Obviously those teeth are stylized in the comic, but they seem very very sharp. Definitely made for ripping and shredding. So it's very likely that the Marmors are obligate carnivores, meaning that, unlike dogs or bears, they can ONLY eat meat. I mention this because those claws would also be useful for hunting and disabling prey BUT connecting this to the cave system theory: Those claws are big and sharp, whoch might also be useful for digging. The giant anteater, for example, has some seriously sharp claws. This thing does NOT hunt other animals, besides ants and termines lmao, but uses those sharp claws to dig into the really hard ground. And those claws are SHARP, boy. They use them regularly to wars off and ERASE jaguargs. Yes, jaguars. So maybe these sharp claws might be tools AND weapons for the Marmors, useful for deleting your prey and digging into the ground!

Going back to the ant comparison: ants society usually has a queen, her simps, and the worker ants. The queen lays the eggs. If those are fertilised by the male drones, they become female workers but if not, they become male drones (the simps lmao). Ecliptica mentions that she is tall because she is a female AND the center of their network. Obviously these are aliens, but I think we can draw parallels: she might be their queen, the only one that reproduces -which would also explain their "children belong to everyone and noone" attitude"- while the rest might simply be the workers. I say workers, even if they are male, because I think the drones might actually be something else. We have seen smaller Marmors like Shepherd's assistants. Now, they might just be small or younger, BUT they could also be the lower ranking drones.

So, to sum up: I think Marmors come from a planet with little light, where they build their hives/societies in ant-like cave systems, digging into the ground. They might also have an ant-like society, that revolves around their queen, the workers and the lower ranking drones, where everyone but the queen is a male.

Ah! Here you go dear!" and the whole time mics side eyeing her (that or when asked if she has any weapons on her when entering hotel OJ she pulls out a bunch of pink guns and knives and shit... Like "and is that everything?!" "....ugh fine" and emptys one last can of pepper spray 😭😭)

That's a fun way to imagine it!!! Usually with my Taco gijinka I just have her put things inside her fancy little vest. But gah I love Taco pulling a cartoonish amount of things from her shell/vest/pockets/etc. She can carry an impossible amount of things because Mephone didn't program her with any sort of limit to what she can hold. There is an entire pocket dimension in Taco's shell.

YES Taco has so many weapons. Comical amount of weapons. Test Tube keeps thinking she's misplacing her weapons and makes more and Taco keeps stealing them. Reminds me of a very funny scene from Amphibia, lol. Also all of Taco's weapon's being pink because she is in fact lgbt+ is so beautiful!!!!

So Havoc is made for the IDW/MTMTE continuity, though I haven't actually read the comics yet (I will I promise I will) so minor details are likely to get tweaked once I do and shamefully realize that I have misunderstood certain things. Go easy on me.

Havoc is a medic on the Lost Light. She's also shipped with Whirl (but it's a very slow slow burn because. It's Whirl. Yeah we all know that ain't happening any time soon lmao). Mainly their interactions take place in the med bay when he gets his ass kicked for the third time this week (it's only Monday) and Havoc has to fix him up and get on his nerves about him wasting their resources with his bullshit. They care about each other. She's his favorite doctor.

She's also something along the lines of one of these thingies ⬇️

Don't ask me for specific models, I'm not a car guy, idk their breeds. Plus she's got a Cybertronian alt mode so it doesn't matter anyway. Point is, she's a fuckoff big military tank. She's taller than Whirl and Whirl is already big af. (Okay, she's not a lot taller than him, but definitely a lot bulkier than that chicken leg man).

Which is where the backstory comes into play: Havoc is a weapon. Assigned war machine at birth. Back in the good old days of the Functionist Council, she was deemed to be the perfect soldier/warrior/occasionally bodyguard. Problem is, she abhors violence. She could never stand having to hurt or even kill other bots – but if that's what you're made to do, you don't get much of a choice in the matter.

Havoc got so used to not having a choice that, even when the war broke out and everything changed, she allowed herself to be drafted to the front lines, because clearly that's where she belongs. She hated it, but at least she was useful. Until her closest, lifelong friend and fellow soldier Mayhem got shot down right in front of her, bleeding out in her arms with Havoc entirely unable to help her. That moment changed something within her, and finally gave her the courage to do something about her own life. She asked to be transferred from the battlefield to medical school, got approved, and has since become a fully-fledged doctor. She towers over all her colleagues and sometimes it's a bit difficult to hold the tools made for hands much smaller than her own, but she works hard and she's not letting it hold her back.

Havoc is a gentle giant, very socially awkward but incredibly careful and reassuring towards her patients. She's rather reserved and quiet, unless she's comfortable around people; she can be fun once she lets loose a bit! It just doesn't happen often, because it's the middle of a seemingly eternal war and she's constantly stressed.

She does have anger issues/violence pre-programmed in her processor, but she's trying incredibly hard to surpress that side of herself, often to unhealthy limits. Unless you're Whirl. She will tell Whirl to go fuck himself sideways if he got himself bent out of shape again, and he will respond in kind. It's fine, it's how they communicate. Somehow this works for them. Whirl doesn't get any unwanted pity, and Havoc gets to let loose just a little bit for once. A beautiful friendship.

Also, with Havoc being a big, burly, powerful warframe, and clearly mech-coded, her using she/her pronouns is very much intentional. She's already incredibly trans coded, I might as well make it official. Good for her.

Ok watched spiderverse 2 again here's some thoughts in no particular order (spoilers and long post ahead):

- peter b is reading a book called "how to talk to kids" at the very end. Presumably because may can't speak yet and Gwen and Miles were zapped away I choose to believe he was reading this so he can go talk to Miguel LMAO

- I fucken love the way spot, after he powers up, move around via just like... sliding around in the air basically with his bad posture like he's hung from strings like a puppet

- when gwen is drumming at the opening and when spot gets zapped both are intercut with frames from later in the movie and also later in the future. I'm guessing spot got a glimpse of canon events but when Gwen was doing her intro it was phrased like a retrospective- but unlike most intros it didn't have a shot of a new spiderman comic being thrown on the pile. So when was she doing this retrospective? I hc she'll pick back up at the end of the third movie

- someone needs to make procreate brush packs for each universe/character PLEASE

- ok the "watercolor" effect being a mood ring is incredible but I havent seen anyone talking about the sort of abstract animation?? It almost reminds me of like experimental film from the impressionist/dada/supremetism eras, you can see it synced to the drum in the intro and also in some of the backgrounds during her big speech

- also during the Guggemheim fight when the Renaissance Vulture was like "you call this art?" And Gwen was like "well we're talking about it aren't we" YOU'RE SO RIGHT GWEN I AM KISSING YOU ON THE LIPS

- the shaky 1st pov cam when Gwen's dad sneaks up on her both times reminded me of when Miles accidentally watched kingpin kill perfect Peter? Idk if it was exactly the same I'd have to go back and rewatch but UGH it really gets that Gwen's dad has two sides too and the cop side isn't really human almost, lurking in the shadows, silhouetted

- also Gwen's dad just being a shit cop, giving her mixed instructions, raising a weapon at an unarmed person who is trying to communicate, firing warning shots, yelling the Miranda rights over her which is not how its supposed to be given

- contrast that with Jeff who literally never pointed a weapon at anyone and went charging after spot with his bare hands, is casual with his spiderman. I mean even when Jeff was talking about Miles not capturing Spot correctly it was lighthearted and joking, he's actively not going by the book, he's keeping the squad off of Spiderman's back, he apparently talks to spiderman about his family troubles???

- have I mentioned I LOVE MUSICAL MOTIFS????? Seriously they’re always good (fuck Wagner everyone knows Toby Fox invented the leitmotif) I mean everyone noticed the horror style Prowler stinger but even more characters got some: Gwen got a Little Rock theme with a guitar lick that echoes the ‘spi-der-man, spi-der-man’ song, Miguel’s distorted synth whine, the interesting mouth and bells percussion that Pav gets (good job Hollywood avoiding the exotic Asian pentatonic lick for once), at the end when the 42 prowler reveal slowly changed the prowler stinger into a human scream???? There’s probably more but I’d have to go back and watch it again again lmao

- I really love how Miguel is kinda goofy. He’s aloof and over serious but he makes mistakes and shows other emotions despite his best efforts. His flaws are shown off in his very first interaction, with his unwillingness to ask for help despite the fact that he knows he needs it. He’s frustrated. He’s got group object leader energy. It makes it so much more lovable that he’s susceptible to quips and he also gets knocked down and messes up and shows up and has his quirks that everyone puts up with. THATS how you make an interesting, relatable, lovable antagonist. Perhaps it worked too well LMAO

- when miles was swinging around with gwen he passed a truck called "redex" bc gwen rejected him lmao

Did that happen in the first one??? Why would it be there??? The cca has obviously been defunct since before superhero movies were really a thing. Famously, the cca seriously censored a ton of content, causing Marvel to be unable to portray darker stories involving drugs and other more mature themes, which they wanted to do with many superheroes including Spidey??? Is the Spider Society secretly the cca, censoring storylines that they think shouldn’t be portrayed, including darker timelines like 42? There was also issues with the convoluted Spider-Man comic lines going through unsatisfying ‘resets’ to keep Spider-Man relatable, without evolving the character into anything too far away from the OG Spider-Man, ie young, relationship issues with MJ, nerdy, tragedies etc. this is the detail that had me wondering the most because it was so clearly displayed right at the beginning, and the cca was generally a shameful part of comic book history in which publishers submitted to satanic moral panic. Like, not really something that reads as a cute little callback to an era of comics like he use of Ben day dots or misaligned printing or the onomatopoeias??

this is a pretty tough question. i got into a lot of new promotions this year and fell in love with so many people i didnt even know existed before, but I think it has to be miu watanabe. her run as princess of princess champion has been fantastic, proving herself to be new pillar of the company. with yukas departure and miyu+maki doing a lot more work overseas there is definitely places at the top of the (very chillaxed) tjpw food chain and miu has been filling that role. watching her go from an underdog to the benchmark in a little over a year has been so satisfying amd every match she had during her run was great. i think losing to mizuki capped off her reign well and im excited to see what the future holds for the new ace of tjpw!

honorary mentions for: jacky kamei, who quickly became my favorite guy in the world this year, mika iwata who, despite being hampered by some confusing booking did a great job defending the senjo title against some fun opponents, and also saori anou about a hundred times, and chris brookes who makes my list every year

honestly this was gonna be puro but something happened to me in august, so its swerve strickland vs bryan danielson. it is the live wrestling bias, and the fact that that show was so good it made me actually keep up with aew for a grand total of 2 weeks before i realized i hate that fucking company, but also its just a damn good match. theyre both guys who are willing to go the extra mile and some more for a spectacle, and anyway, its a good memory

gold class vs z-brats! starting out with minoura losing his hair, and betraying riiita, and the whole thing leading to big hug disbanding somehow. it was a gut wrenching thing to watch, especially with big hug disbanding because of the whole situation. i almost stopped watcjing wrestlimg early in the year and dragongate really pulled me back. its just very effective storytelling and i felt like my life was at stake at points

CHI CHI!!!!!!! i started watching sendai girls and evolution joshi this year just to put things on while working and i really fell in love with her. shes been great eith the revived senjo jr title, she has great kicks and she just had a great match against stardoms aya sakura which you should watch as well. shes been wrestling for something like a year and honestly, it doesnt show. im so excited to keep up with her career, she has great things ahead of her

big hug you will be sorely missed!! this is the category where i will not be able to pick a favorite, so let me list some good ones. i loved big hug. i loved that they loved each other so much, they worked so well together. finally mante was able to use kamei as a weapon with his permission. they were so fun. im still upset

not hug, also, were really good. their tah title run was fun as hell its the definition of Dudes Rock. their whole coworkers who hate each other shtick is really good and its incorporated into their moveset and teamwork really well, with doi being reluctant to help dk at points and moments of miscommunication, but they always manage to make it work

team 200kg had such a fantaszic year, two absolute powerhouses walking into the ring to a rock ballad with a comical amount of belts. chihiro hashimoto has always been a really great heavy hitter but this was the year when yuu really became her equal. the yuu roll is the most electrifying move in wrestlimg argue with the wall. their ajpw tv title run with shuji ishikawa was great, just 3 big strong people suplexing fools through the floor. one of those teams you would be insane to dislike

favorite show

so we got two shows tied here. dragongate's dead or alive 2024 show is what finally got me into the promotion after seeing 2 of my friends gush about it for over a year, and i was kicking myself for not getting in on it soomer to be honest. that show made me so invested in jacky kamei in about half an hour that i was clutching my knees and screaming and crying basically the entire time. greatest cage escape spot ever. im putting the entire show here and not just the cagematch because that show also had the twin gate match where not hug won the titles and that was also heaps of fun, and anyways its the worst dg show i ever watched it deserves the spot

tjpw x eve was not, i dont think, on a lot of peoples radars, but it was magical in a lot of ways. obviously tjpw had to kind of send the b team, but to us teej heads there is no such thing as the b team and everybody in that building who had to stand because they fucked up the seating tickets was absolutely Elated to see himawari. raku got a huge cheer, and a you sick fuck chant, i got to see aja kong live and in person which made me almost faint on the spot. i love eve as well and half the british wrestlers on that show had to go and wrestle a 4 woman hardcore match later that day on a revpro show i also attended, so massive props to them. miyu said in her promo closing the show that she wanted this crossover to happen for a very long time and she hoped she could do a much better one next time, which im also hoping for!

this seems to be the year of kissing men so its not easy to pick but it is probably everything that happened in that despe/chris match. i can only dare hope that we can surpass ourselves next year

as opposed to last year, im excited about plenty of things! im excited to watch meiko satomuras retirement series as it draws to a close, im excited to see how chris brookes's championship reign goes. im very hyped for suzume as international princess champion and im just generally excited to see what dragongate has to offer me this year. im also tentatively hyped for some new japan stuff, the wk weekend shows were, not necessarily great but i think they set up some stuff that could be. and ofc im excited for wrestlimg to suprise me again this year!

Babies. Me and my friend planned to make a story with the baby tots, Splints, Draxum, & Big Mama; it being a comfort story. I might bring it back but i'll have to ask them tho lol. I even made some one-page comics of it lol

Big Mama design (still love this design lmao) I'll talk about her role a lil. She's still the boss of her hotel & is a powerful yokai in the hidden city and all, but she's a bit more formal. Again, the story for all this isn't even really thought out so bare with me lol. But what's different is that her and Draxum are closer business partners than they are in the show.

Hi hello! Thank you for letting me ramble and sorry if none of this makes any sense I’m just yapping lmao

I was first introduced to carol when she joined the mcu and I remember watching captain marvel and just being utterly AMAZED by her and so after that I decided she was my new favorite! After that I became obsessed and I looked up everything I could about her and the movie and I became obsessed with Brie because I just think she’s an amazing human.

But with Carol, what drew me too her was her story, I’ve been a superhero fan since I was a kid and I never got to see a female led movie as a kid and I think that her story was so well done, it’s a story about a woman who is this strong weapon that turns out be being manipulated and taught that emotions are weak and that because she experiences those she’s weak.

But then her whole world gets turned around and she finds out that’s not the case! She realizes that her emotions and the connections she has with people are what make her strong, she’s not strong because she can shoot fire from her fists she’s strong because she CARES and I really connected with that.

I also love how complex she is! She’s funny and she’s smart and she’s a airforce pilot and she has a cat and her family is chosen family and she’s best friends with nick fury! I just think she’s so cool and so silly and I love her so much and also she’s just very special to me because she was the first female led movie, AND she was honestly my gay awakening! I was very much in the mental closet (I had no clue I liked girls) but then I was just so in love with her that I was like “hold on… do I LIKE girls?” So she also helped me discover a big part of myself!

And recently I’ve been getting into her comics which are super cool! (It’s really cool seeing the similarities between the movies and comics) and she’s just one of my biggest special internets!

I absolutely LOVED the marvels! (I got to see it on opening night) and I just feel like that movie and this character were MADE for me lol :)

Okay just finished Death Island and I have Thoughts

(SPOILERS BELOW. KINDA.)

* Okay Realistically, the writing was very poor. Plot was all over the place/disjointed and it was hard to follow what was going on for the first half. Dialouge cheesy and cringy. But this is Resident Evil. That's a staple at this point lmfao

* The action was over the top and chaotic and admittedly, I laughed my ass off at the final boss fight. It was just... jfc overkill in a good, hilarious way. I lost it when the rocket launchers came out and even more when Chris held the bullet belt(?).

* Truthfully, regarding above, it's bc a lit of moments in this movie reminded me of my time in 7 Days, especially the last boss fight. The act of finding and using random weapons and ammo you happen to loot on spot is Very Much on par w how we do in that game lmao

* On the flip side though, back to the bad writing.... Dylan could've been handled MUCH better. His arc started out great with an interesting premise and even his later ideology**. But it's quickly lost with the typical corny comic muwahaha villainly. Honestly, it could have worked - they couldve shown a sliw descend into masness and evil after Raccoon instead of leaving a very large gap. But that would probably require more time, like Infinite Darkness had (sort of...). Regardless, there was potentialfor him to be both an interesting villain AND the typical Evil. It just wasnt executed properly here.

**(he's not wrong...one of the things RE has always gotten right, and I will defend, is that it's actually not the monsters you need to worry about, but the people behind them. Or rather, the people with higher power and money and greed. That's the true Resident Evil - it's the evil within human society and corporation.)

* Okay but my biggest takeaway, and probably a Weird Opinion, is due to the obvious comparison in internal doubt and ideology (Government Bad, Big Execs Bad, Basically All Human Greed Bad) between Dylan and Leon... Leon could've been the Villain here. While I doubt he'd turn to bioterrorism, could see him in Dylans exact spot. Disavowed/disillusioned with the government, tired of the lies and cover-ups, tired of his entire LIFE being robbed by state officials who needed a lapdog/cleanup boy/scapegoat. Turning sides because he's just Exhausted and 5000% Done and as he said in Vendetta (yeah I know he's "better" now but mmmm I have Doubts), it's just one bitter fight after another with no end and no way out. Also...Leon in a black button up and trench coat, just sayin' 🤷

Do the viruses in Digital Verse have different types of powers? What's Chase's and the other character power?

Yeah I'm not gonna lie it's pretty comic book/anime-core lmao (textdump incoming)

Much like real-life, data to those with interest is more valuable than gold. Most fights that happen are a matter of taking data from another, whether be between rival corporations or anti-viruses fighting ransomware. Programs generally have some sort of ability, whether a virus or not.

Jackie, while not a Program, gained some abilities when transferred into the digital world. They are a 3D artist by trade, and their tablet pen went in with them. Their pen can now create 3D models on the fly, they just have to craft it. It's just geometry though, as it would need code to have any meaningful abilities. However, it does come into use pretty often.

Chase's abilities are pretty simple, high electrical output and possession. He's not very good at elaborate planning despite his best efforts, he usually ends up winning by force. Just completely frying his foes. On top of that he can hijack another program and inhabit their body (like a ghost ooooo). He has to focus though as if he loses it, he can lose control and be kicked out. He can also levitate.

Socket has size/form augmentation. She can copy another Program's form 1:1 if she comes into contact with them. She also has invisibility as a bonus.

Monty is largely a pacifist, but he's the most powerful both from his hulking size and raw strength. He of course can breathe fire(wall), and has a seemingly infinite amount of storage within him. It's what he uses to store the various wares he sells. He can also encrypt anything he stores so if someone takes it from him it's completely useless unless they decrypt it. He also has wings he flies with, but doesn't usually use them.

Khordata has a toxic venom that when in a Program's system causes them to go into a trance, and become a part of a larger botnet of anyone else who has the venom in their system. The venom is highly addictive, as the trance state they're in is like a high they never want to leave. They are zombified in a sense. Khordata uses their massive network to do the fighting for them, however they're very capable on their own, possessing 4 khopeshes they use as weapons (one for each hand). The spider on their tail can also administer their venom, and it acts like a pet for them.

Molly is normally very timid, however angered easily. When angered she transforms into a raging beast. Second most powerful behind Monty. She has 3 rows of teeth that can destroy virtually anything, razor sharp claws, and a tipped tail that paralyzes anything that comes into contact with it. Her pure animalistic rage is what makes her so dangerous.

Agent 34 is a shapeshifter. She can shift her body into any body/form she wants. She largely uses this for her sex work, appeasing clients with the body they want, however it's useful in combat too. When she's between states she's in a liquid-like state. The only thing she cannot change are her colors and her hooves, which is pretty annoying when her client wants big fuzzy blue paws. She can also do "metadata reading", which is basically surface-level mind reading. She does this both to gauge what her client wants but also to obtain info in her spy work. She also is skilled in martial arts when in hand-to-hand combat.

- okay the camping trip + camino arc is like 3 naruto arcs in one (kota hating heroes and getting saved by deku = that kid from the land of the mist hating heroes and getting saved by naruto, a troop of some bad guys taking bakugo, the deuteragonist, because they want him to join their league = orochimaru's lackeys taking sasuke away, the fact that they had a competition and some exams in order to be able to go to the camping trip = the different parts of the chuunin exams).

- here's the thing i've noticed, before anyone says im comparing bnha to naruto too much: i think horikoshi uses a lot of popular shonnen tropes and pays a bunch of homages to other shonnen manga on purpose. what purpose? the subversion of expectations. here's the thing, if you're a new watcher who has already watched a bunch of different shonnen animes (like me with naruto), when you see bakugo being taken by the league, even if you don't immediately think of sasuke, you still might guess that now bakugo is going to turn evil, because that's how the story usually goes. instead, horikoshi reminds us bakugo isn't sasuke or your average shonnen deuteragonist, and reestablishes the core values of this character. the reason i draw so many parallels to naruto is because it's the shonnen anime im most familiar with, but im sure a one-piece/hxh/bleach/dgbz/etc fan could do the exact same thing.

- tl;dr: what im trying to say is that the ways in which horikoshi draws inspiration from other shonnen anime isn't lazy; it's not that he doesn't have ideas so he copies. i think he's actually very clever in the way he handles all those influences. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

- deku's arms are like. about to die. and im not saying that this is never brought up again, but i feel like in the later seasons he didn't exactly hold back. although he's literally trying to come up with a technique so that he can use them again, so idk. iida's hand injury hasn't really been brought up yet either.

- i forgot to mention this before, but shigaraki uses a lot of videogame analogies (he calls big heroes "final bosses", for example) in the same way that deku uses a lot of comic book analogies (if this was a comic book, he would be the protagonist" said by deku about todoroki).

- but it's interesting because, in shigaraki, i think this is used to showcase his immaturity: we associate videogames to kids, and so by using these sort of analogies the author reinforces the childish characterization of the antagonist.

- deku, on the other hand, uses comic book analogies for the sake of meta jokes with the audience (saying todoroki would be the protagonist when he's actually the protagonist of his comic book), which goes back to all the different homages and references horikoshi does to other shonnen manga and anime. i think bnha doesn't get enough credit for how meta it is.

- i like how you can tell bakugo is changing during the provisional license exam, not just in regards to his relationship with deku but also with other classmates. like when he's about to be turned into a weird meat-like thing (some guy's quirk) he tosses his weapon to kaminari because he's confident that kaminari will know how to use it.

- lmao deku vs. kacchan pt 2 is really bakugo going "hey btw im traumatized due to recent events but mostly i've always been severely insecure and that's why i bullied you so why did you always follow me?" and deku replying "bitch bffr i hate you but you're like the coolest guy i know"

- i know i've said it a lot but i really love the foil-like relationship of bkdk and how it's written.

- something idk if i have mentioned at this point or not is that i love uraraka and tsuyu. they're my favorite classmate-characters. but honestly, i appreciate much more the effort that the author put into writing each individual character and making them consistent in their personalities, at least up until the end of the third season.

things im noticing as i rewatch bnha, an ongoing thread:

SEASON 1

- deku really was such a nerd lmao he's just like me fr (like i KNEW but i didn't remember how much i could relate to it. oops.)

- it's also interesting that he always fights back against bakugo and calls him an idiot a lot. idk why (probably because of fandom characterization) i remembered early-seasons deku as a lot more innocent and scared of bakugo. like, here's the thing, deku is scared of pretty much everything at the start because he's shy/anxious. he gets nervous talking to most of his classmates (especially, but not only, girls) when he first meets them and starts trembling when he gets elected as class president before handing the role to iida. so basically, his anxiety isn't reserved to bakugo like i remembered – if anything, he seems to get over his fear of getting bullied by him pretty quickly once he realizes he can fight back.

- kaminari tried to ask uraraka out in their first or second day of school and she was like "uhhh i like to eat... uhh... WAIT DEKU CAME BACK FROM THE NURSE'S OFFICE" lol i really didn't remember that

- bakugo's insecurity was always there. as you're reading this you might be thinking i first watched mha with my eyes closed or sth, and you're not very far from the truth. here's the thing, i first watched it when i was like 14-15, so all i knew back then was that bakugo was insufferable and i didn't think further than that. of course, he ended up becoming one of my favorite bnha characters after reading all of the manga, but it's cool to realize his character arc was foreshadowed from the beginning and didn't just magically start around season 3.

- but yeah, anyway, bakugo's insecurity and his envy over deku's natural noble nature was always there, since season 1. also, deku's real admiration over bakugo was also there. like, going back to my other point, deku wasn't just Not Overly Scared of bakugo, he actually looked up to him despite knowing he was deeply flawed. tbh they were always a bit crazy about each other.

- uraraka is so funny i love her.

- all of class 1A was so chaotic good coded

- like they collectively made fun of bakugo on the bus to USJ for being rude lol. they really bonded over their shared dislike for the guy.

- bakugo gets fucking HUMBLED all of s1. i would also be irrationally angry ngl.

- the dialogues in the first season sometimes are so unnatural for the sake of exposition, like all might telling recovery girl: "do you mind not talking so loudly ab OFA? only you, a close friend, the principal, and midoriya know about OFA. but most professors and some pro heroes also know about my condition and not being able to fight for more than 3 hours a day" like WHO TALKS LIKE THAT ??!1?1?

- deku had to go to recovery girl's office a total of 4 times (if i counted correctly) for broken limbs of fingers in HIS FIRST WEEK of school. which is funnier considering no one else from class 1A had to go even once.

- damn shigaraki was a skinny legend before he got OP

- aizawa did not react at all when he first saw kurogiri (about the shirakumo thing). that was surprising.

- also. AIZAWA IS SO BADASS?? like yes i knew he was badass from the later seasons, but i genuinely didn't remember his first fighting sequence at USJ where he single-handedly fights like at least 20 villains.

- i had also forgotten that shigaraki calls eraserhead "really cool" so early on in the anime, i thought it was a later-seasons thing.

- this is really obvious but i had forgotten the all might theme's resemblance to superman's theme. it's such a cool little detail tho!

- uraraka and deku definitely were crushing on each other when they first met, but i think it's nice that they ended up developing a really strong friendship instead of getting together after hori didn't consistently develop them romantically. it also makes a lot more sense narratively, like why would we care who deku ends up with at the end of his first year of UA when the story actually ends 8 years after that, and it's very unlikely that you marry the same person you started dating when you were 15. idk, i liked that. i like that you can have two characters who maybe have a crush on each other but can't focus on that due to Circumstances and eventually move on and become good friends. it's a win for the platonic department!

- the animation was kinda bad in the first season 😭 but it's understandable and i had fun watching it regardless.
