I think it's important to look at the Girlfriend Reviews incident of the Hogwarts Legacy response, because even if it's just a case of lack of awareness of some Youtubers, the way that they're being used is insidious.
So from what I've seen is that they tried to stream Hogwarts Legacy, a section of their fanbase expressed their disappointment mainly via messages they were unfollowing/unsubscribing, Shelby got upset and tearfully took a break, but they still streamed for 6 hours after. Since then the story has been used to label those opposed to Hogwarts Legacy as abusive towards Girlfriend Reviews and other streamers.
If there is any screenshots of the abusive language in their chat, please let me know, as further evidence is always appreciated.
I do think that Girlfriend Reviews were mostly naive, thinking that donating to the Trevor Project would be a reasonable counterbalance for their discretion, however that action is also telling that they knew that playing the game would result in some backlash. They're no strangers to backlash, as they did receive previous harrassment when they played The Last Of Us Part 2. They should be aware by now, how politics and video games interact.
I think when they got harrassed for TLOU2, there was more of a dismissive attitude of "people getting too upset over a game", rather than a culture of misogyny in video games and that culture lashing out due to a sense of entitlement. And perhaps Girlfriend Reviews thought that HL was more of the same, but it's not and to act like it is, is just being ignorant of systems of power.
But this isn't just about these youtubers. Shelby's tears are being manipulated by bad actors as White Women's Tears. If you're unaware of the term, WWTs is a common framing tactic that has been used, mostly for anti-black purposes, for a long time. It's used to justify continued oppression against marginalized groups by saying "Look how they've hurt the feelings of this symbol of innocence". White women have often been used as a tool within white supremacist, patriarchal societies, as something to be protected from the influence and existence of The Other. White Women's Tears are most notable in the case of Emmett Till.
I'm not saying that Shelby was aware of this when she cried, or that she faked crying. What I am saying is that the sort of folk who harrassed Girlfriend Reviews for playing TLOU2, are the sort of people who are now using the image of her crying to punch down on Trans people, Jewish people, and others who expressed their disappointment at Girlfriend Reviews for playing HL. I'd hope that Girlfriend Reviews would be able to see this, and make amends, rather than trying to retreat to an apolitical position, while allowing the continued use of this "harrassment" to inflict more harm on Trans and Jewish people. And that's the better of two evils, hopefully this doesn't make them follow in the footsteps of the likes of Jontron, becoming an alt-right talking head (although this seems unlikely).
The cognitive dissonance of trying to enjoy something you thought was just innocent fun, to find out it has wider political ramifications, is hard. It's painful, you don't want to feel bad for what you consider an accidental lapse of better judgement. However, the actions you take to deal with that cognitive dissonance is important. You can either face up to your mistake, bury your head in the sand, or stand by your action and in opposition of those you have wronged.

Same, I was asked once why am I doing "old fandoms" aka kingdom hearts, psychonaughts, earthbound, mass effect, etc or doing "old meme" formats. answer? Cause I enjoy it, I will still love them when they are no longer in the spot light,
And as much as I hate the joke of I was into x thing before it was cool, I swear I am more and more like that, but its more like I was into x thing after it was cool. I got into certain fandoms "late" because I just now have easier access to it. I now have (all bit limited) money to be able to finally spend on things I like. I don't care if there hasnt been a new season, or movie, or game, or what ever. If I enjoyed the thing I am gonna show love to the thing, popular or not.
There is a reason so many pre-tumblr, pre-netflix, pre-algorythimic bullshit, made fandoms are still going strong to this day. Like what op said Star trek oldest bloody fandom my grandma has been a fan since day 1 shit you not and she still loves this show...doesn't care for the new things because it feels off to her. I kinda figured out why it felt off because even me it felt off but thats a side track.
Due to algorithms and media dumping their shows in one batch and relying on folks to watch it when it dropped and not also take into account later viewings (which was actually an issue in this one youtuber sim I once watch someone play where it never takes into account rewatches or people not watching post one week after it was posted ah side tracking again) Which then in turn rely on if more of said content is going to be made via reaction in the moment, it ruined fandom.
I am "old" in the eyes of fandom, my mom and grandma who also have their fandoms they still enjoy to this day are defiantly old and they can see this massive shift and also hate it.
There is a problem in fandom and it needs to get fixed, let people enjoy things and express enjoyment whenever they want. Even if its not fresh off the presses.
X fandom isn't dying, there is a good chance you the enjoyer have just crap mind sets and or are lazy to not hunt for those still posting with full passion for a thing. Because the algy isnt showing it anymore and you yourself are not out there hunting for it.
When I want more stuff to enjoy I use the tumblr search and go out for it. Do algys sometimes suggest me things not in my sphere and then I enjoy it as well yes many times, how I got into Nier recently. But like you can't rely on algys to give you what you want, you need to search for it, you need to treat fandom and media less like candy and more like meat if that makes since. Hell media makers also need to treat it as such but eh.
sorry for adding a long rant op its just also my thoughts as well...I agree with you.
Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.
We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.
The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.
Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.
Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.
There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.
Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.
We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.

SEPTEMBER 4 2024 ZENLOG: Guess Who's Back Again?
So as you can see, I haven't been keeping up attendance since the last update. Oops.
I somehow missed the second week already... MAN.
But I'm thankfully here now and boy oh boy do I have a lot to update you guys on!
That being said, here's the nifty little table of contents! Just look for the color for the section(s) you wanna read and enjoy yourself!
CONTENTS OF THE ZENLOG
PERSONAL UPDATES
PROJECTS
WHAT TO EXPECT
BEFORE I GO
A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! (Wooooooah!)
If you're ready to read, click "keep reading!"
PERSONAL UPDATES
Remember how my throat was hella sore the previous update? I managed to go to a follow-up appointment for the doctor. Upon looking at my throat, sir said absolutely nothing has changed (much to his confusion... and mine).
So, sir has decided to up the intake on my antibiotics. They were WAY more effective than the ones I was on previously, so HALLELUJAH!
Then I got sick two more times post-recovery.
It's actually bonkers. I mean, aside from my wack sleep schedule, for the most part I took care of myself. So what was the problem?
Turns out that the air here where I live now just has a crapton of particles that irritate my asthma.
Oops.
But hey, on another note, I've met my extended family members and all of them are hella cool! In addition to that stuff, I've also been researching on colleges and working on myself outside of projects. After all, if I don't take care of IRL me, how will I take care of my creations?
And brainrotting over Bill Cipher and Stanford Pines content shhhhhh
Tumblr media
(For those curious, the game is Swooning Over Stans! I've heard so many things on Tiktok so I started playing it myself LMAO)
PROJECTS
A slightly detailed list of what I wished to accomplish this week, but if you want brief phrases that sum things up, look for the pink text!
HANASHIMA'S ADVANCED CLASS
I've managed to get 17/15 responses to my anxiety-related questions that I've mentioned the last time! I'd like to thank my Discord friends and everyone who participated in my little survey! The input really means a lot to me! I now have a better understanding of the specific scenario I've been trying to write, and hopefully I won't let everybody down with my attempts at portrayals.
In addition to that, thanks to a friend, I've noticed some blaring issues with some characters and pacing, so an outline is in the works and the same applies with an official character sheet.
This issue made me realize that I do in fact, need outsider opinions regarding more 'technical' aspects of my writing and not just what I wanted to accomplish. That in mind, I now have two consultants on my team (woah, I have a team now!)
[WIP AUDIO PROJECT]
Not much progress has been made with this one, though character designs for 2/3 characters has been finalized.
MISC
I've completed two short comics and am currently working on a third strip.
I've uploaded a few tiktoks that I plan to reupload onto here / post the images I've included in those works.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It'll probably be a while before you even see anything genuinely plot-related for Hanashima's Advanced Class. I have big things planned, and I'm doing the thing where I write the whole entire story first prior to actually committing to uploading (compared to others where they come up with the story as they go).
I've ultimately decided to stay quiet on the psychological horror project that I mentioned the previous time as well. I might post some stuff about it every now and then, but I'll keep my mouth shut on the matter for now. Mostly because it's a horror so the element of surprise and shock is of utmost importance... and thus, no one can know anything about it if I wanna keep that element!
I might work on an official introduction to who I am via Youtube video format - because aside from witnessing my feral behavior and my art stuff, I realized that not most exactly know who I am or what my goals are regarding what I want to do with my art. It'll be a simple video but an introduction nonetheless!
A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! (HUH???)
Starting next week, I'll be posting a series of weekly comics! They'll be similar to ShenComix in terms of content but with my own flair and experiences!
I'm still working on a title for the series but just know that I'll have a lot more content! I'm working on more comics so I don't have to worry about deadlines or anything haha
EDIT: Zen's Zaniness is releasing Thursday next week!
BEFORE I GO...
Apologies for the lack of funny images here compared to last time. And- you know, my absence.
But I'm really excited to be sharing more art with you guys, as I continuously work on more Hanashima's Advanced Class.
Take care and stay zany! <333

ABOUT
Hello, I’m Gabe! I’m a queer, Jewish hobbyist artist/writer with a ceaseless obsession for character creation. I’m a trans man, and I exclusively use he/him pronouns :)
I live in Canada with my roommate/best friend/RP partner/guy I bother, and my rancid little budgie Genji, whom I love terribly. I have a nasty habit of creating tons of characters and then never doing anything with them, kind of like a dead-beat father
Outside of art and character creation, I love dragons, video games, hiking, literature, film, paleontology, and animals/zoology. I’m currently in university, double majoring in English and biology!
Autism/ADHD/OCD/anxiety and physically disabled as well. I’m terrible at messaging people first, but I am always delighted to get messages <3 I’m awkward, but I love chatting. Also feel free to ask me to tag things!
On testosterone since July 25th, 2015
Post top surgery since October 26th, 2017
Post hysterectomy since August 6th, 2020
Currently on the wait-list for phalloplasty!

HEADS-UP
This isn’t really a DNI or a BYF, but more of a heads-up about the kind of content I reblog and my general takes on things. I don’t engage in discourse on here, like ever, but I figured I should include this anyway
This is probably a given, but I block conservatives/terfs/bigots/etc. on sight
I identify as queer and I use the (reclaimed) f-slur pretty frequently. I don’t tag reclaimed slurs
I do tag triggers as thoroughly as I can (nsfw/nsft, blood, transphobia, etc.) Please let me know if I ever forget to tag a trigger!
On that note, I’m an adult, and I frequently reblog/discuss things with mature themes (mostly jokes tbh). I also swear a lot. This isn’t an nsfw blog or anything, but y'know
I’m a furry, and I reblog (sfw) furry art. I may be cringe, but at least I’m free :3
I love the horror genre, and I sometimes reblog horror stuff. I tag anything with blood, gore, injuries, or body horror, but I don’t ever reblog legitimate/intense gore
My general political take on things is that every human deserves basic human rights, and violence or bigotry of any kind (transphobia, racism, antisemitism, ableism, Islamophobia, misogyny, homophobia, etc. etc. etc.) is bad, actually
For my own mental health, I don’t answer inflammatory asks, or asks about topics I’m not comfortable with
Ask games are totally okay! I don’t really do “send this to 5 other people” type ask games, but I appreciate the sentiment nonetheless ^_^
Oh yeah. I should mention that I love MCYT (Minecraft YouTube), specifically Hermitcraft and the LifeSMP, and I post about it a lot, including shipping content. I feel like I need to clarify that I’m shipping the characters, not the Real Human Guys playing them. This is a super minor note, but like, y'know, just in case
———
INTERESTS
Feel free to check out my top tags to see the topics and fandoms I enjoy! I’m trying to tag things more comprehensively, but sometimes I forget so please, like, bear with me <3 I frequently post…
Animals (birds, dogs, bugs, etc.)
Dragons :D
Photography and nature
Paleontology and biology
OCs and art
Jewish stuff
Whatever I find funny or interesting on my dash
Posts that give me an excuse to info-dump or ramble
Occasionally politics/social justice/current events
In terms of fandom, some of my favourite things are…
The Magnus Archives/Protocol
Minecraft and MCYT (Third Life/Hermitcraft mostly)
Pokemon
Fallout
The Elder Scrolls
Flight Rising
Breaking Bad
Dungeon Meshi
Severance
Baldur’s Gate 3
Fullmetal Alchemist
Jurassic Park/World
Nope (2022)
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Invincible
Fire Emblem (mostly Three Houses)
Infinity Train
Definitely more I’m forgetting right now

For the fandom ask game: 13, 17 James Watson, 20 Sanctuary, 24 John Druitt, please. 😊
Oh yes! Such great questions, thank you so much!!
13) What's a character or ship you haven't written/drawn yet but would like to some day? Oh, many. You should see my ideas list for drawing - it's long. There was a Star Trek prompt event and I got ideas, and the Year of the OTP event and I got ideas. So yes several for Star Trek (B'elanna/Seven, Kira/Dax, Owo/Detmer) and I really can't forget Janeway and Amelia Earhart. I will be bitter forever at the missed opportunity not to have her join the crew. It seemed like such poor characterisation as well. Would Amelia Earhart really have turned down the opportunity to pilot a starship??
17) What's a book, movie, or show you think James Watson would like? I don't think he would like crime/mystery media to be honest as either they don't play fair, or the answer is so obvious and the characters so slow to get it, that it's annoying. I think he'd probably check out the various Sherlock Holmes adaptations out of interest (and also to be guarded against any teasing), but I don't think he'd exactly like them.
To be honest I can't really see him watching much TV outside of documentaries. I think he might like movies a bit better as they are basically like plays. I think he might be interested to see examples of modern films out of interest for how they are made (hasn't technology come so far type thing) but I don't think the plot of most would grab him.
Books would definitely be his media of choice, and call him old-fashioned for that if you like. I don't know why but I wonder if he might enjoy a good old archaeological thriller. You know hunting for lost treasure and definitely on the more ridiculous side. I think he might be more willing to put up with inaccuracies if it obviously isn't taking itself too seriously (kinda like the Uncharted games).
The only actual title that springs to mind that I think he would actually like is The Princess Bride. Not sure why but I think he'd think it was clever and well done.
20) When did you first join Tumblr? How long was it between that and finding Sanctuary? Around April/May 2016 I think? I'd been lurking (aka reading specific blogs but not signed up) for several months before that, sometime mid-2015 I think. Anyway, I finally got FOMO and wanted to join in.
I first started watching Sanctuary... I can tell you, let me scan the blog archives. I think I tried to find it August 2020, and watched a bit via YouTube as I wasn't confident I would like it. I got the DVD in September and I think I was... mid season 3 (mid-October I blogged about having reached the Hollow Earth arc). You can tell my obsession really ramped up in October as clearly I did a deep dive for ALL the gifsets.
Amusingly one of my initial posts said that Tesla made a lousy friend (I'm laughing, boy did my opinion change) - hey! I never remember this stuff when I get asks about opinion changes. I remember my opinion now and rarely what came before.
Anyway I wrote my first novel length multi-chapter (Our Darkest Hour) that November before I finished the show. I actually stopped watching for the month in case the show messed with my outline, which it would have because Normandy jossed my Helen/James headcanon but oh well. It was kinda fun, a bit like capturing a fraction of the experience of if I had been creating when the show was originally live.
24) What's your favourite thing about John Druitt? I feel bad about this but the honest answer is his cursed nature. Without it, he's still a compelling character (as I wrote purely in Choosing Fate) but that agony of what happened to him, and the trauma to those he loved/who loved him just grabbed me. It's TRAGIC, and I like to fix things.
It's the whole Winter Soldier "it wasn't you" "but I still did it" type thing. Blame and judgement and guilt and darkness, and forgiveness, and how people can move on - it's fascinating. I see discussions on it on tumblr sometimes about redemption for characters. How far is too far? Are there some things that are unforgivable? Does it depend on outside factors - like being cursed - to mitigate blame? People have opinions. This can get controversial and I don't do conflict.
I remember Teal'c talking to Tomin on Stargate, saying that life didn't have to end, that he could never be forgiven but he could still do good in the world. I think of Regina who willingly walked down the path, but was pushed and manipulated by others (and a lot of pain). When I have written Regina I've talked about people being more than what they have done, that people have the power to choose, and she chooses to do better.
With John it's not really a choice (at least in my headcanon) while he's a host to the parasite. However, once it's removed - how can he move on? It wasn't him, but it was still his hand on the blade. He remembers it being him. I think it would warp his sense of morals too, after a century even if he wasn't a host anymore. Finding his sense of self, and his own moral code, would be a challenge.
Also his relationship with James. Coming of age in a world where it was punishable by death (or 10 years in prison and societal ruin). That too.

My Sonic eras(updated)plus canonicity system.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it’s been a minute since I updated my Sonic eras(which are based in canon rather than arbitrary opinions, like most fan era systems operate in this franchise), so I figured I’d give them a quick touch-up, and explain what systems I use to determine canonicity. Those being:
Objective canon(what happens on screen)
Fair extrapolation(looking at the tiny details to make assumptions, but not outright headcanons)
Behind the scenes info(What the current people at Sega say)
Headcanon(we make shit up with no basis beyond personal opinion)
So, let’s go into detail on what each of these mean.
1)Objective Canon
Basically, if you saw it on-screen in a canon work,  this is irrefutable canon. However, there are some caveats to this, and one of those is that this section doesn’t dictate what works are and are not canon, since those are often decided by outside factors that we’ll explain in a moment. Another is that we usually try to judge a work by its original language. Some works in mainline Sonic canon are written first in Japanese, and others are written in English first. The metric you can use for that is by studying dialogue. If the main differences between English and Japanese are the typical tells of English localization(I.e. Stuff like Shahra’s “Did I change my destiny?” in the English dub of Secret Rings, when in context, this was about her altering more than just HER fate), then it was likely written in Japanese first. However, if the Japanese version has WILDLY different dialogue in the Japanese version(Colors, Lost World, Frontiers, etc), then English came first.
Now, if you still like the other dubs for casual playing, that’s cool. I enjoy some games written in Japanese first with the English voices(and vice versa), but when it comes to this type of analysis, you need to get as close to the original as possible.
If you need a resource for checking into these translations, Windii Gaylord on YouTube is a good one to use. She also came up with the above metric for figuring out which language came first via one of her tweets, btw.
2)Fair extrapolation
So this one is a little tricky, but I think I can get my point across.
One frequent complaint about Sonic canon is that it “makes no sense,” or “contradicts itself” in many instances. Heck, even people up to Ian Flynn would make this argument.
And they’re wrong.
Beyond a few instances in the Classic era, Sonic canon only doesn’t make sense if you either don’t pay enough attention to it, have multi-media brain rot from Archie and shit, or make up the contradictions in your head. The Sonic fanbase is wont to do that last one a lot, with “All of Classic Sonic was put into another dimension by Forces!” or “Unleashed/Frontiers contradicts the Chaos Emerald lore established in Adventure/Unleashed!”
This type of thinking comes along when you SEEK contradictions, and it’s a loser way of going about these things. Fair extrapolation goes entirely against this idea. Instead of looking for contradictions, let’s instead assume that everything connects perfectly, you just need to find out HOW, without going on any crazy leaps.
For example, in Forces, Classic Sonic is established as coming from another dimension/world, despite coming from the past in Generations, and other games have shown the pre-1998 games to have taken place in the mainline universe.
A loser would scream, “Contradiction!” and rob everyone else of a cool idea, but fair extrapolation tells us that his previous encounter with the current timeline put this version of Sonic into his own dimension/world, and since that story involved time travel, we can assume this means timeline. Ergo, split timeline.
Or, in another case, the Chaos Emeralds are ancient gems with a lot of power. If a battery still has power, I can still use it in more than one device if I choose to move it, yes?
So, logically, the Chaos Emeralds can power the Ancients’ ships in Frontiers, get placed in the guardianship of Chaos in Adventure, and have been used for the Temple Megazord in Unleashed at different points in the long history of Sonic’s Earth.
Ergo, these games do not contradict each other.
If connecting the dots doesn’t require you to outright make up details, then it’s fair extrapolation, and thus not a headcanon. I’ll explain what that is in a moment, but first,
3) Behind the scenes information
Alright, this section requires some harsh truths, so I’m gonna just rip off the band-aid:
Creators are far less reliable than the on-screen canon.
They may try to claim otherwise, but as far as I’ve observed, their knowledge on details can be fuzzy and swayed by a corporation who has even LESS of an idea of what they’re talking about. It’s okay to pick their brains a bit to use as feelers for canon, but they can and sometimes do contradict what’s actually on-screen, so for MY money, they’re tertiary canon that can easily be ignored.
Death of the author is inherent to any long-running continuity, unfortunately. We just have to accept that.
4)Headcanon
This receives very limited use. It’s mainly deciding what your personal order of events is, what explanation you prefer from fair extrapolation on the rare occasion you can get more than one, and other details you may need to fill the gaps with. It is the most objectionable form of canon, thus why it is at the bottom of the list. Also, every time you cite it, you MUST say something to the effect of, “My headcanon is…” Don’t try to push it as fact, because you know it isn’t.
So, with that all established, let’s get our eras established.
Tumblr media
1)Classic Era
1991-1997, 1999, 2023
Both the hardest and simplest to explain. Every game from 1991-1997 is in here, so pre-Adventure.  Sadly, the manuals for Sonic 1-3&K, and CD have been retconned by Sonic Origins(I don’t like this retcon, but as it was done through proper channels, I have to accept it by my standards), but the others remain fair game for now.
Pocket Adventure remains as the end of this era, personal headcanon keeping it in the loop because I doubt Sega is gonna make a work that replaces it, so there’s nothing in the work itself to make decanonizing it necessary.
Tumblr media
And yeah, you may have noticed that 2023. Yeah, I’m putting Superstars in the main timeline. This may change in the future, but for now, I am eschewing the “takes place between Mania and Adventure” stuff from the creators to cause less contradictions, unlike Sega who seem to be wallowing in causing a contradiction with the “Mania in the main universe” bullshit. Objectively, from the official material, Mania is from an alternate timeline, and any instances of Mania elements appearing in the main universe are continuity errors out of universe, but can be explained in-universe as non-specific objects and locations that exist in both timelines.
I would prefer that Superstars be a split timeline game, personally, but we’re not allowed good things. If Trip ever appears in a comic with the Hardboiled Heavies, then she just exists in both timelines as a pre-Generations thing. No muss, no fuss.
Tumblr media
2)Adventure Era
1998-2006,  2010,  2012
Works relatively the same as before, so I will copy and paste.
Not named after the Adventure games, but rather after Pocket Adventure, which is our transition into it. This era encompasses everything released from 1998-2006, save for Pocket Adventure, Rivals, Riders, and Rush, the latter 3 being folded into the following era. Sonic 4 Episodes 1, 2, and Metal are also part of the Adventure era as their earliest canonical instances. What ends this era is the reset created at the end of 06, which reboots Silver to his new Rivals origin, and either reboots Blaze to be from the Sol Dimension now, or simply makes it so she never traveled from the Sol Dimension to Silver's future(my preferred theory). Since this is a shift in the timeline caused by canonical events, it transitions us into our next era…
Tumblr media
3)Post-Solaris Era
2006-2011
Silver and Blaze receive their reboots in the form of Rush and Rivals, and Riders starts up. Covers every game from 2005-2011 that isn't Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog(2006), Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1, and Sonic Chronicles, since that game is explicitly in the not-canon zone, and will probably never get out of it. The cause of our next era shift will be explained shortly.
Tumblr media
4) Post-Time Eater era
2013-present(?)
Caused by the events of Generations splitting the timeline so that one version of Sonic grew up to be the Modern counterpart, and one is having considerably different adventures like Mania and the IDW anniversary comics, this new timeline SEEMS to be our current era, with all post-2011 games, save for Sonic 4 Episode 2  being in it...Hypothetically. And, for the first time, non-game media like the IDW comics and Prime are in it, so that's neat!
(Btw, if you wanna bitch and moan about Prime being canon, I discussed it here)
However, I should note that as all of these eras are formed in retrospect, we will not properly know when we have left this era until WELL after we have exited it.
I see two possibilities for our next era shift:
1) Another timeline shift that properly addresses the timeline split, and uses that to smooth over some of the extra contradictions leaving post-Gens Classic Sonic in the main timeline would bring. I have the story ready in my head if you want it, Sega.
2) The revelations of Frontiers go somewhere further in the future, bringing us into a “Discovery” era, and making our years for this period 2011-2022, 2022-2024(these are for Prime), and starting this new era with Sonic Frontiers, Murder of Sonic, and Sonic Dream Team, along with whatever IDW comics follow the events of Frontiers.
Tumblr media
(a small mock-up)
So that’s my canon system as it stands as of March 2024. Feel free to discuss, and even borrow elements for your own systems, or just to use it outright. I just felt that having this all typed out in one spot was a good idea. See ya, suckers!

Hey Starfins! I enjoy your writing on Wattpad, you truly have a writing talent! I especially like your Genshin works. Which by the way, have you played the recent new archon quest?
Back to why I’m here, I was wondering if I could request a Wanderer x Reader for your oneshot book. Most of the fics I read of him seem to either make him too aggressive, unlikeable..or just weird. Or they aren’t at all accurate to his actually behavior in the game. I’d like to see your take on him and how you would write him!
Ah! Hello! It’s rare I actually get people from over there on my tumblr, so this is a nice surprise. The reason I ask that people direct requests here is because this is where I primarily post my work, aside from Ao3. I only really use Wattpad for the user engagement (which is questionable at best), so tumblr is genuinely where I’ll see messages.
Also, thank you so much for the kind words!! You’re far too sweet. I have not played the new archon quest, I’ve had absolutely no time to, but I will eventually. I’m currently outside the United States, which is where I’m from, studying in another country (The United Kingdom, specifically in London), so I’ve been left with pretty much no time to do anything besides homework, sleep, and watch YouTube or whatever show crosses my path since watching doesn’t require any energy. I played Genshin a bit in the first few weeks after I arrived overseas (back when Neuvilette’s banner was still going), but as classwork amped up, I was left with less and less time to play.
Anyway, onto the topic at hand. Ah, the Wanderer. He’s a complicated character, and I really enjoy him. I love the ones that have layers to them, I love finding out what makes a character tick. I’ve been meaning to write something for him, but it’s really a matter of finding the right plot. I have something sort of half written, but I can’t figure out how to continue it, really. It’s also an AU, and that’s probably not what you want, haha. If you have something in mind for a plot or anything specific you’d like to see, please let me know, and we can discuss it further. My DMs are always open, and I’m pretty friendly, so don’t be afraid to talk to me. If you like, though, we can just continue to communicate via asks.
Let me know what you’d like to do!

Over the years as a content creator, how have you adapted with the changing platform?
As well as the rise, decline, and rejuvenation of minecraft?
Was it hard?
Honestly, my channel very nearly died out at one point because I'm a stubborn bugger!
My channel was born from Minecraft but I soon felt the pinch, much like everybody else where new maps and mod experiences entered a dry spell and my peers all had their established groups, deeply entrenched in whatever SMP they had going. So I was just nearby, floating on my own little rock. Between that and the pressures of being PG in all my content, I needed to diversify my game roster and loosen the reins a little for my own sanity.
The variety period of my channel was really fun but it really highlighted the cold hard fact that YouTube was evolving in to a single topic success store, but that just wasn't for me. I'd rather have transitioned out the industry enjoying my final days as opposed to getting caught in a one game rut. I was doing radio before this and I was confident I could return to it.
This went on for a while, to slowly declining numbers. When I reached the 1.3m subscriber mark, it all screeched to a halt and I plateaued HARD!
In late 2018 / early 2019 my channel was almost dead. Yogscast were floating me some months when CPM (ad money) was low and I'd pay them back on stronger months, I'm eternally grateful for that. I resorted to making a Patreon and told myself I'd only do it for a set period and if it was still a dependency by the end of that time, I'd close up shop. I was looking to get married, have a kid and I needed more stability then aaaaall of a sudden, BOOM, one of the games in my roster blew up. Fortnite, and not even at the beginning of its life either. This was nearly 2 years in to Battle Royale.
My stubbornness had paid off for once. Others were hiding 30 seconds of info in 10 minute videos to get pre-roll advertisements and I was NEVER going to do that.. Mine were 50 seconds: "Hey how ya doing, here's your info, catch ya later" and people respected that. Fast forward to now and that's still my main bread winner, it's nuts.
Is it creatively fulfilling? No. Does it pay the bills and keep sponsors happy, heck yeah!
I stayed active in the Minecraft scene via streaming, cameos in other people's content and was in good standing with Mojang (so much so that I got to host Minecon Live, that was fun!! Remember the first Grid Runners map?).
I dabbled in casual speedrunning and was there for the Minecraft Championship's inception which I snapped at the chance at to play in as I'd championed the Noxcrew's work since 2012. So in a weird way, it feels like my stubbornness and commitment to quality didn't go unnoticed by the current leaders in the field. Those middle patches of MCYT weren't for me, the 'lets be a group of creators and by an empty mansion, leaning our gold plaque against the wall on the floor next to our 2 pairs of sneakers' and going uber kid friendly or entering roleplay wasn't appealing to me.
This new wave of Minecraft through.. Where improv comedy and a little bit of skill are praised. This is where I'm meant to be. I'd demonstrated all these skills through projects like the ADVENTure and the Noxcrew Gameshow but they were in some ways, a little too ahead of their time. I just had to survive long enough to be here for the right 'phase'.
3L/LL has breathed life in to my 'second channel' which, let's be honest, is my Minecraft channel, calling it second isn't fair and MCC springs my name up to the new gen. Creators blowing up now might have watched me as kids or other OGs will give a knowing nod but I certainly still feel like I'm floating in the aether not knowing juuuust quite where I fit in, similarly to before. I'm sure it's partly imposter syndrome but also my lack of commitment to the game for 4/5 years will be why I feel this pinch.
So that's my next goal, finding a new MC space to call home, being a stubborn fuck as always and pushing myself creatively. Let's see how it goes

JACOBIN FICTION CONVENTION MEETING 10: BANNER OF THE MAID (2019)
Tumblr media
1. The Introduction
Hey, Citizens! I’m back and this is the anniversary review! Yay, we’re 10 reviews young!
Anyway, in order to celebrate the special occasion, I really wanted to pick a special topic that wouldn’t be laced with propaganda and is obscure enough so as not to be well-known in our Revolutionary community!
“Banner of the Maid” fits both categories. It’s a relatively obscure Chinese Strategy RPG game made by Azure Flame Studio. It also mixes characters from the Napoleonic era and the French Revolution (or rather, a lot of historical figures were in both of those) so the Neighbors are once again welcome to join the Convention!
It first appeared on my radar thanks to a fellow Revolutionary and a good friend of mine, @idieonthishill , who has a review of her own! Check it out and show her some appreciation!
https://idieonthishill.tumblr.com/post/659391065047154688/i-recently-completed-another-playthrough-of-banner
The game is available on Steam if you’re using a PC, and that’s where I purchased it, but I heard it can be purchased for some consoles too so it’s fairly easy to get a hold of.
I was hoping to be able to complete this game by today but only managed to beat half of it by now due to some projects piling up at my college so I ended up cheating a bit and caught up on everything via YouTube walkthroughs.
Sorry about that, guys...
Anyway, let’s proceed to the actual review! @idieonthishill , this one is dedicated to you!
2. The Summary
The game begins in 1792, when the Royal Family attempts to flee to Varennes, but then takes a sharp turn into the alternative history because, unlike their real counterparts, here the king and the queen are still somewhat in power due to their PR boosting move of allowing women to be in the military.
In this universe, some women, called Maids, possess certain powers (unique from user to user) and are destined to save France. Our main character, Pauline Bonaparte, is a Maid with the power to inspire troops (in the gameplay this translates to impressive attack boosts) who has recently graduated from military school and, after a baptism by fire during which most of her troops got slaughtered, she travels to Toulon to reunite with her older brother (Napoleon) and help him fight in the War of the First Coalition. In the meantime, she also has to navigate the tricky politics of France of the Frev era...
3. The Story
So far, the story is actually pretty exciting. I must admit that the concept of the Maids is a narrative choice that I haven’t seen before, at least not in Frev media, so the premise alone got my attention.
As you might have deduced by now, this game shows us alternative history and, to the credit of the devs, they’re open and honest about this from the start.
What’s more, they don’t use alternative history as an excuse to spew propaganda left and right and the conflicts of the plot are actually in the gray area in terms of morality.
We meet revolutionaries, royalists, civillians and foreign enemies and they all have something sympathetic about them, which makes for a truly mature and interesting conflict.
Not something people usually expect from an animesque RPG game, but the surprise is welcome nonetheless precisely thanks to its rarity.
The story also an achievement of featuring a romantic subplot that I not only buy, but really enjoy, which is amazing considering how easy it is to screw up romantic subplots and my usual apathy towards those. More on the subplot later though.
Okay, let’s move on and look at the characters.
4. The Characters
Most of the characters are based on historical people and, surprisingly, they are much more accurate than they could’ve been.
Here are a few examples:
Pauline Bonaparte, or rather her version in the game, is a big part of the reason why I’m so hooked on the story thanks to her realistic portrayal.
She is kind, socially awkward, suffering from survivor’s guilt due to the death of her troops in the backstory but also idealistic, naïve and genuinely strong both physically and mentally.
Her protective streak is especially evident in her interactions with her (implied) love interest but so is her awkwardness, probably because it’s supposed to be her first love.
Basically, she is exactly what one would expect from a naïve newcomer thrown into the fires of war but she matured and learns to use her powers as the story progresses.
She is incredibly loyal to Napoleon (which is accurate) and their interactions are just really adorable, especially the one from the first part of the game where he cheers her up during a moment of insecurity by reminding her that she snatched 20 victories from him in snowball fights. Aww...
Another major character I’d like to talk about is Napoleon Bonaparte himself.
Here Naps is an incredibly talented and ambitious soldier (accurate!) and he is always ready to help Pauline, be it via a pep talk or via directly aiding her in battle. He also occasionally transfers new troops to Pauline so his help can be more indirect too.
Unfortunately, like Pauline, here he is bad at social interactions outside the military, which causes issues for his romance with Josephine de Beauharnais (who runs a salon/coffee shop called Malmaison in the game) and in some other cases.
Then there’s General Louis Desaix.
A nobleman who supports the Revolution (accurate!), he was a comrade of Napoleon’s before joining Pauline. He is Pauline’s love interest in the game, but their romance is quite subtle and it’s more of a subtext than anything.
For example, he saves Pauline twice and after the first time the two dance while flying over Paris on a hot air balloon. To me, this is clearly supposed to be romantic, especially with the way Pauline blushes the entire time.
Desaix is also a big protective cinnamon roll in the game but a brave and formidable opponent on the battlefield. He never hesitates to fight for his loved ones and for what he believes in, even at the cost of his life.
(Spoiler alert!)
Sadly, the canon version of the game has him die from an injury after he shields Pauline from an Austrian sniper (Bridget) but there’s a way to save him so don’t worry about it! More on that later though.
There’s also Joachim Murat. Womanizer, braggart, daredevil, dandy and a loyal friend, he has a big ego and a big heart to match (accurate!).
For example, when Desaix is dying, Murat carries him to the camp and keeps telling him to hang on the entire time, which I find really sweet.
Murat also has a unique character ability that had me laughing my ass off the first time I saw it. In the game he wears outrageously bright clothes (accurate!) and this gives him a handy ability to distract enemies and have much higher chances of dodging an attack than most of the cast has.
Way to make use of your clothes!
Also, contrary to popular belief, he is neither stupid nor spineless here, just reckless.
Another character, Jean Lannes, though apparently not as historically accurate as the aforementioned people, can be pretty blunt and rude (accurate!) and, according to the game, those traits frequently get him demoted but he is still loyal and a good friend. In fact, he keeps encouraging Desaix to hang in there too! Aww...
The game also features Josephine de Beauharnais, who is not a bitch and actually quite sympathetic, sketchy and corrupt Mirabeau and Robespierre, who doesn’t support the idea of executing everyone and simply wants a better life for the people.
These three are quite important as characters and I’m glad that most of the pitfalls of writing them aren’t present here.
Unfortunately, at least two characters based on real people are female while historically they were male. Arthur Wellesley (aka Wellington) becomes Anne Wellesley while Nicolas Oudinot is turned into a cute girl called Nicolette.
Honestly, these creative choices were a miss for me but it’s not a major complaint and can be justified by the fact that it’s alternative history.
Another complaint I have is that Anne doesn’t get enough screen time to make her potential as an antagonist truly shine, which is a shame. The same problem shows up with the characters from later chapters as some of them don’t have enough time to develop properly
Otherwise, though, the cast is full of genuinely interesting and somewhat accurate characters, most of whom are walking references and some are more obvious than others.
For example, there’s a possible reference to a Frev manga called “Rose of Versailles” as one of the female characters is called Oscar, which is the name of the female protagonist who was raised as a man.
Another character, a Maid who can talk to animals, is called Cosette, which is most likely a Les Mis reference.
However, some references to real people are more subtle and easy to miss unless you’re an expert in history of the French Revolution and/or Napoleonic Wars.
Let’s take a look at some examples, dear readers!
5. The References
For example, early on in the game, Pauline is shielded from attackers in Toulon by a character called Leclerc, which is the surname of the real Pauline’s first husband.
Leclerc’s sister, Aimée, who is in the military band of Pauline’s army, is also a reference to a real person. For the Neighbors, you probably know her better as Aimée Davout, future wife of Marshal Louis-Nicolas Davout.
Paulette Méric, a friend of Lannes’s in the game, is a reference to his first wife.
D’Eon, a retired spy and one of Pauline’s former instructors, was a real spy who was famous for cross dressing and lived as a woman after retiring. His gender is male in the game but it mentions that, while disguised as a woman, he had quite a few suitors (accurate!).
One of the antagonists, Leonore, is a reference to Eleonore Prochaska, a real Prussian soldier who fought against Napoleon.
A more subtle reference comes in the form of two journals that are instrumental in saving Desaix.
They’re called “Larrey’s Notes” and reference the chief surgeon of Napoleon’s army who was thought of as the best of the best.
He doesn’t appear in the game personally but, according to the Neighbors, he was good friends with Desaix in real life so, in a sweet way, he works a miracle in the game and helps the player save one of his friends! Aww.
There are many more references, of course, but I don’t want to bore anyone by listing all of them so we’ll have to stop here but, since I just mentioned the notes that are an important part of the gameplay, let’s talk about said gameplay.
6. The Gameplay
If you ever played “Rock Paper Scissors”, you’ll notice that the basics are somewhat similar to that game and, even if you don’t remember which unit type beats which, there’s a handy pictogramme on the screen during campaigns that will remind you of it.
Unfortunately, while learning how the game works is easy, the campaigns get progressively harder and harder along the way and, in my case at least, later campaigns can require a lot of trial and error before victory is achieved but it’s rewarding nonetheless.
Occasionally, you will get side missions that, when completed, give you reputation boosts, funds to purchase supplies and help you level up the troops.
In addition, both the main story and the side quests occasionally come with challenges that, if completed, give you some really important bonuses.
The gameplay, like the story and the characters, is also full of easter eggs and most of them are subtle.
But, unfortunately, one crucial part of the gameplay is too subtle, to the point that rookie players might not be able to even find out about it unless they stumble upon instructions or achieve it accidentally.
Remember how Desaix is potentially killed? Well, he is injured in Chapter 16 of the game (thanks, Bridget) and will die unless necessary measures are taken.
To save him, you will need two parts of Larrey’s Notes.
The first part can be obtained if you complete the challenge in the side mission of Chapter 7. The second one is found if the challenge in Chapter 15 is completed. You need to put both journals into Desaix’s inventory and then you need to prevent him from taking any damage in Chapter 16.
This is possible if you avoid being attacked by Heavy Cavalry and the Boss Enemy (Bridget) who pursues Desaix and Pauline to finish them off.
Meeting those requirements is tricky but to me it was all the more rewarding because he did survive during my walkthrough and I got so emotional that I was grinning and giggling like an idiot after realizing that I had just succeeded.
(We, the Revolutionaries, never abandon our own, fictional or otherwise!)
But, if you’re a rookie, it’s easy to think that Desaix’s death isn’t preventable because the game gives no indication of the purpose of the notes or the fact that he shouldn’t take damage, which, if you ask me, is extremely unfair to the players.
(Spoiler alert!)
There are also no indications that he will die, aside from the emphasis on his frail state during that campaign, so the “canon” death itself ends up coming out of the left field. Someone on the dev team must really hate Desaix for some reason...
Heck, I only found out about the death and the way to prevent it by browsing forums on Steam, so I know how hard it is and I really wish that the hints were in the actual game, especially since Desaix is a major character! Not cool, guys, not cool...
A more minor issue pops up in the language. The game was made by a Chinese studio and is therefore only available in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and English.
The English version, the one I’m playing because I don’t speak Chinese, has some typos and other translation errors, but, unlike my previous complaint, this one isn’t really annoying and at least the English is good enough to make the game comprehensible.
7. The Visuals
The backgrounds of the game are truly stunning so I don’t have issues with those.
What I do have an issue with, are some of the character designs.
Anime style aside (because I’m not complaining about that per se), quite a few designs for female characters show their breasts (not entirely though, mostly it’s just that the cleavages are too deep), especially in the cases of the Queen and Paulette.
I have no idea why and how the devs decided on this, but it makes it hard for me to take the characters suffering from this seriously because lewd designs in a game that’s not about lewd stuff really annoy me and the game couldn’t been better if none of the female characters were designed that way.
As for the male characters, none of them are lewd (thank Supreme Being!) but they’re inconsistent.
Some men (Napoleon and Murat) are drawn accurately, almost like their designs are stylized portraits, while others (like Lannes and Desaix) are basically anime pretty boys, which is odd and makes me wish that the creators made up their minds and picked only one style for everyone. Oh well.
8. The Conclusion
All in all, the game isn’t without flaws, but I’m really enjoying it so far and I still recommend it.
After all, despite the questionable designs, the typos and so on, the creators clearly did their homework and genuinely did their best to make a good game, which has to be appreciated considering how low the bar is for Frev and Napoleonic media due to all the propaganda our respective communities deal with.
If you’re curious about the game, be sure to check it out on Steam as I believe that projects like this should be supported by our communities.
Well, that’s it for today’s meeting, Citizens and Neighbors! Hope you had a happy Halloween and I hope you have a happy Jacobin Fiction Convention anniversary!
More updates on the next review are coming soon so stay tuned!
Love,

It was a slow day. A boring day. Part of you wanted to be productive in one way or another, but another part of you just wanted a break from any and all thinking and doing – excluding simple, mindless tasks such as scrolling through social media or watching YouTube. This latter side was (and had been, for most of the day) winning.
You didn’t particularly like that you had made no progress on anything today, but then again, it wasn’t like you were pressed for time or faced with deadlines or anything of the sort. Nevertheless, habit made it hard to completely accept that perhaps it was okay to let today be a lazy one.
You exhaled and pursed your lips. Saeyoung was occupied with his work, Saeran was out on another long walk, the messenger was dry, and all your other friends were busy. Even the social media feed was slowing down. You supposed that you could re-watch some of your favourite YouTube videos, but then you would also have to do something else, such as art, to occupy your hands. After all, it wasn’t new content, and thus would not be enough to entertain you entirely.
Another huff of air, louder this time, followed by a groan. Sprawled along the couch in yet another strange position, you held your phone before your face, a pout settling on your lips. You were bored, yet you hardly had the energy to do anything at all. And napping – if only to pass the time until Saeyoung finished his work – was out of the question. You couldn’t remember the last time you had been able to nap, save for the times when you pulled a literal all-nighter.
Closing the social media app left you staring blankly at your arrangement of the other applications. What to do, what to do… I could play computer games. But that meant getting up, which you couldn’t find it in yourself to do. A thoughtful hum accompanied your furrowed brow. You sifted through the different apps, but nothing seemed appealing.
In what was almost a desperate (or fruitless) attempt to find some form of entertainment or motivation, you opened the gallery and skimmed through the albums of fanart, memes, screenshots of conversations, and photos of your friends (both those of the RFA and those outside of it). You found yourself grinning as you were reminded of events and get-togethers, silly things, pranks. You weren’t by any means a professional photographer, nor did you have any plans to become one, but you still liked to capture moments of life via any method – be it videos, pictures, or voice recordings. You organized everything as best as you could, typically by event. And when one friend had a particularly high number of photos or videos, you gave them their own album.
Of course, this was the case for Saeyoung. You had close to 600 photos and almost 40 videos featuring him alone, a couple hundred more of the two of you together, and more of him with other people. You loved looking through his album, loved having a way to view his face when you couldn’t do so in person – such as right now. He was working hard in his office on a recent assignment; you didn’t want to bother him.
But soon – too soon – you reached the end of the album, the photos dating back eleven months. It had been almost a year already since you met the RFA, since you fell head-over-heels for the redheaded hacker (and him for you), since the craziness with Mint Eye and Rika. Since Saeran had begun his recovery.
How time flies.
You sighed quietly and turned off your phone to stare up at the ceiling instead. Not a minute later, a familiar face popped into view, over the top of the couch, accompanied by a loud shout— No, it was closer to a playful roar, what with the growl that edged it.
Whatever the hell it was, it made you shriek, and before you could even process all that was happening, your phone was flying towards Saeyoung’s precious face. And all you managed in response to that was a choked gasp and hushed swear.
By some miracle (or a little thing called agency training), Saeyoung dodged in time, with a yelp of his own. Not only did he dodge the projectile, he also – after a bit of flailing – managed to catch it.
There was a pause. You gaped at him, awed, heart pounding a little faster from the whole ordeal. “Holy…”
He snapped out of his own stupor at your whisper; his lips curled into a smug smile. “Didn’t you know your God Seven is awesome?”
You huffed a laugh. “Oh- No, I just thought you were some loser.” You pulled an exaggeratedly puzzled expression. “Who are you again? Why do we let you live here?”
Saeyoung pouted, and you grinned. He leaned over the back of the couch, moving closer to you. “I paid for this place, and this is how you treat me? I see how it is~.” His pout twisted into a playful smirk.
"Mm-hm~.”
“It seems you need a little reminder,” he purred. He turned to your phone. “Let’s see~ You’re always taking phot—” His words caught in his throat as he lit up the display and his eyes landed on your lock screen. His eyebrows rose in mild surprise, and red dusted his cheeks.
Oh. Oh no. That’s right. You had changed the image yesterday.
To a photo of him. And not just any photo – one of your favourites. One you had snuck at the last RFA party. Because damn he just looked so good in that suit… and with his hair like that… and the confidence etched into his features… And the moment you caught… Well, it simply screamed, “Hot damn.”
Oh, boy. You weren’t gonna live this down, were you? Because it wasn’t just the photo, it was the caption: Look at mah man. He’s so sexy in that suit hehe <3 …because you had sent it to a friend. Your best friend, in fact – the one person you were absolutely comfortable sharing that with. Because damn, you just had to share such a beauty with someone!
You were certain your face was redder than Saeyoung’s at this point. You tried to stammer out some excuse, tried to instead calm down and throw out some nonchalant line, but the words dried up with the rest of your mouth.
Glimmering gold shifted up from the now-dark screen to lock onto your flushed face. A teasing smile played upon his lips, and it quickly grew into a grin. “Aw, honey~ You think I’m sexy? Sexy enough to be on your lock screen, too~. Hehe, you’re so cute.”
“W-well, I— I um… u-uh… Y-you just… It’s a good picture, okay!” you blurted, flustered and a little indignant. “You always look so dang good in that suit an’ with your hair all like that so- so just hush up about it! How can I not take a picture?” Or two. Or five. Or thirty.
Saeyoung opened his mouth to reply, but he seemed frozen in place, layers upon layers of red washing over his face until it blended with his hair. You blinked a few times, overcoming your own embarrassment, and felt your mouth tug into a smirk. Oh~? Tomato boy is here to join us, hmm?
A good half minute (first of silence, then of incoherent stammers) passed before he gave in and just groaned, brushing one hand through his hair. You giggled a bit, for the action left bits here and there sticking up.
“Gaah, stop being so cute!” he whined.
You could only giggle again. “I’m not doing anything~.”
“Stop that!” He let out another groan and clutched his shirt, as though it would calm his heart. “Are you trying to kill me? My heart can’t take your cuteness!”
“Hehe, maayyybe~.” You leaned against the back cushion, cheek resting on the comfy material as you grinned up at him (perhaps trying to optimize your supposed cuteness). “Maybe I can’t help it when I’m with you.”
He squinted playfully. “You’re cute all the time, don’t try to deny it, [Name]~.”
Perking up, you feigned shock. “Then how have you survived all this time?”
Saeyoung drew near (almost smirking), slipped your phone into his pocket, and held your face in his warm hands, squishing your cheeks together a bit. “I’ve learned to handle it. But sometimes your cuteness levels go way, waayyy up, and my poor heart is struck once again!” He nuzzled his nose against yours, then pecked it, eliciting another soft giggle from you. “You’re blushing,” he teased quietly, and this time planted a kiss between your eyes.
“Shush.” You tried to sound half-stern, but it came out all-delight. Your heart fluttered at even a glimpse of the adoration in those sparkling eyes of his – so you shut your own, a flustered laugh escaping you. His lovely chuckle followed, and he pressed his forehead to yours.
“I love you~.”
You opened your eyes, hands coming up to loosely grasp his arms. You bit your lip (failing to control a smile), tittered again, averted your eyes. “Jus’ come here,” you said, tugging at his arm. “The couch. Come on, come cuddle.”
The redhead beamed, pressed another (messy, hasty) kiss to your forehead, and released you to skirt around the couch (last time, he had vaulted over, but that didn’t end well).
In a moment of boldness, thinking back to the photo he had discovered, you forced the words out: “You know, you really are sexy in that suit.”
His glowing face turned pink, but his confidence didn’t falter – nor his enthusiasm, given that he half threw himself against you, hugging you and sending you both crashing down. He pushed himself up and smirked down at you. “Good to know.”
Oh, you knew that face, knew it all too well. He was planning something with this new piece of knowledge. But, you thought, how bad could it be? If it had anything to do with his suit, with his styled hair, with his confident demeanor, then you could only see stars in your future.
You grinned and wrapped your arms around him. “Love you,” you sang quietly – almost shyly. Leaning up, you stole a sweet, deliberate kiss. Falling back, you brought a hand up to weave through his vermillion curls. And his eyes shut at your gentle motions, and his features relaxed with the rest of him. He shifted, closing some of the remaining distance between the two of you. And again his eyes fluttered open; his lips curved into that beautiful smile – then they were capturing your own, and thoughts of him filled your mind, flushing out everything else. You twirled curled strands around your fingers: mindless. He drifted a hand down your side to hold your hip: habit.
He pulled away, kissed your cheek, and nuzzled into your neck, tickling you with a contented exhale. You giggled; in turn, he did, too.
With his weight comfortably holding you down, with his presence surrounding you, you let your eyes slide shut, fingers still absentmindedly combing through Saeyoung’s hair.
“Love you,” came his muffled promise.
“Love you more.”
“Untrue. Loved you first.”
“Doubt it. Love you forever.”
He waggled his fingers against your flank. You squeaked, squirming beneath him, and he snickered lightly.
“Jerk.”
You felt him grin. “I love you, too.” He lifted his head, brushing his lips against your jaw. “Forever,” he breathed.

... I just love OTPs, I can't help it.
OTP HEADCANONS: 2020 Edition
These will include the series of Red Queen, Dorothy Must Die, SGE, The Folk of The Air, and Nightmare Before Christmas(I'll throw in the Skellington kids, too, because I love them💙)
MAJOR TW FOR ALL THE EVENTS THAT OCCURED IN 2020, AND THAT INCLUDES QUARANTINE.
RED QUEEN:
At the news of a Pandemic, Mare and Cal are equally confused and scared, but at least they're not on the battlefield.
They hold up in Paradise Valley until the quarantine is lifted.
It starts off fine with them doing puzzles, hiking, and doing some exercises to pass the time. Then 3 weeks pass and both are bored; Mare's bored enough to drink coffee onto of the fridge and Cal's sitting in a chair upside down because fuck court etiquette, he's so bored.
Cal contemplates luring wolves with dinner scraps again.
They had a mini argument that meant nothing because Cal's hair got long and he wanted Mare to cut it, she but only offered to shave his stubble, not cut his hair.
They both get a lot of sleep, and have a lot of nightmares, which they comfort each other from.
They also really enjoy the silence.
Cal gets into poetry and Mare paints. Both are surprised at how good the other is at their new hobbies.
They talk. A lot. It begins awkwardly and ends with the two in each other's arms.
Cal becomes more of a punner, and Mare loves and hates it.
There's tall of getting a dog, but there's one problem: Paradise Valley doesn't have any shelters, and they'll be arrested or forced ro turn back hime, regardless of rank.
Mare grows taller... by 2 inches. She almost killed Cal for how much he laughed.
When they're allowed to go out, Mare often forgets to bring her mask.
Cal's good at remembering their masks.
Mare REFUSES to leave when she hears about the murder hornets.
Cal gets repellent to calm her down.
They also recover some Old Era TV Shows.
ENDLESS quotes from The Office, Friends, and many more shows.
Cal visits Maven's grave more. Mare comes with every now and then, but usually lets him go alone.
They don't usually argue, but those arguments never last.
They tried a bit of ability training, and greed that they should be careful when Mare summoned a bolt of lightning from the sky and Cal almost set fire to everything around them.
They read a lot, too, but Cal reads more than Mare because she falls asleep, usually on him.
DOROTHY MUST DIE:
Nox had no clue what a Pandemic was, or what the big deal was about going outside and not being near people, until Amy explained it.
First day of online school crashed and burned because Nox had NO IDEA what he was doing, which led to Amy 'accompanying' him in classes.
Amy puts her college plans on hold for a little while.
Nox is more emotional and neither of them know how to handle it.
They have more nightmares, since there's nothing to keep their minds busy, but Amy is more reserved about it. Nox prefers to write about what he dreams, anyway.
Nox stays up, from all the nightmares, but Amy sits with him to keep him company.
When Amy heard about the murder hornets, Nox held up a fly swatter and opened all the windows.
Amy does fine, but Nox dies from boredom, when they're done with school. And I don't mean he just sits and groans, he lies face down on the couch as Amy tries to get him up.
They spend A LOT of time in Nox's apartment, and it's literally spotless because Nox is THAT bored.
They binge a lot of TV shows, and Nox falls in love with shows like Peaky Blinders.
They tried watching Game of Thrones. It didn't go well; negative past experiences.
Nox figured out the plot twist to The Umbrella Academy WAY before Amy did.
They watched Heathers and Amy asked Nox what he'd do if she was dealing with trash friends and guys who don't take 'no' for an answer. The look on his face when he asked who it was reminded Amy of who he was before meeting her.
Nox finds YouTube and discovers the guy that makes knives out of anything and makes it his mission to copy each and every video, come Hell or high water.
Amy walked in on him doing this and genuinely wondered if he was okay, and asked if she could help him.
They also binged musicals. Nox isn't a huge music person, but he still loves them; Kansas has its own magic that he finds intriguing.
Amy once found Nox crouching ontop of the fridge while drinking a mug of coffee.
Madison stopped by and dropped off some rhinestones, lash glue, and a tool to apply the stones. Amy spent a lot of time putting the stones on her face while Nox watched, with Madison and Dustin also watching via Facetime, sitting backwards in a chair and wondering what her plan was, even making very Julien Solomita-esque comments, mixed with very 'I used to be a fighter and a spy' comments that made Amy, Madison, and Dustin laugh. Some if those comments:
"I know Glamora told you to lighten up, but I don't she'd expect this."
"If those were real diamonds, you wouldn't need any armor or a weapon. Just headbutt them, and you're good."
"Don't be upset, but it's the beginning of summer, so I don't think winter's coming any time soon."
"Whichever chandelier you made out with, I will find them, damn it."
After a little while, Amy asked if Nox wanted a rhinestone face. He agreed, but only as long as she took out all the red stones. He could handle pink, but no red.
It took them an hour to get the stones off.
Their hair gets long and they agree to cut each other's hair. Nox cuts her hair chin length and Amy tries to be as style his hair. They don't look the best, but they at least look good.
They absolutely watch Unus Annus, and start quoting that.
When they get the news they can go out wearing a mask, Nox got confused and got 3 different masks: a masquerade mask, a normal face mask, and a gas mask, which he wears all the time to annoy Amy.
They do stay in shape as much as possible, but there is evidence that they could have been more active, with their muscles shrinking and both having lost a little weight.
Nox NEVER drops his guard, and quarantine didn't help.
They tried dying their hair, but it didn't work as well as they'd hoped.
SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL:
Tedros worries about Agatha and everyone else, but Agatha keeps him in check.
Crime drops big time, so that's a plus for Tedros and Agatha.
They have more time to breathe, with everyone being inside and avoiding each other.
Tedros hates the quiet at first, but Agatha helps him adjust.
They spend a lot of time wandering the castle and answering whatever call there is, if any.
The SGE is out for a little while, so they don't hear too much from there.
Tedros, without normal king business to distract him, has more nightmares and starts losing sleep because he doesn't want to dream about what's happened to him and his friends.
Agatha has nightmares, too, but she's better at hiding it.
They do talk about it and agree to be more open with what's going on in their heads.
They also agree that they'll help each other through these times.
Tedros helps Agatha with swordplay and Agatha both gets him into reading more and tries to help him with his magic.
Whenever there's something they need outside, Agatha gets it because she's not that afraid of getting sick; she grew up eating frog and lizard soup.
Tedros worries about her, but doesn't really stop her because she's taller, and having fun trying to stop Agatha once she's committed to doing something.
Tedros finds a new hobby: origami.
Agatha doesn't join in, per se, she more watches because she's never seen Tedros be so patient with something.
They play around with each other's hair, as it grows longer. Agatha ties Tedros's hair back and Tedros braids her hair.
They write to Sophie or anyone else, like people who have some sort of report of a crime or complaint duch as infertile soil, so their penmanship improves.
Tedros grows a bit of a stubble and, after some prickly kiss attacks, Agatha threatens to shave it off herself, if he doesn't. It's all in good fun, but she sort of did mean it because his face and cheeks were really scratchy.
Tedros REFUSES to let Agatha go out alone, even when she's masked up.
When they go out, Tedros always carries a sword.
Picnics in the woods.
Star gazing at night.
Agatha starts wearing pants, as an experiment, and her "dresser"/dress designer is APPALLED.
There are times they argue, but they stay together and communicate because relationship goals.
THE CRUEL PRINCE:
At the news of a Pandemic/plague, Cardan ordered all the human servants to get as healthy as they could so they'd be able to go outside. He would accompany them, but they could not let Jude go out.
She's not happy, when she finds out
Cardan asks if she can avoid going to the human world, so she doesn't get sick.
She goes anyway and returns unscathed.
Cardan considers glamoring the human servants to keeep Jude healthy, but Jude almost pincushions him for it.
Anxious? Worried? Psh! Don't be silly. Cardan becomes somethimg if a paranoid maniac because he's scared of Jude getting sick and dying because he's Fae and she's Mortal, so she's more susceptible to illnesses and he doesn't know wnoufh about mortals to get her healthy agaun were she to get sick, but there's nothing wroung with him, really.
Whenever they're not ruling, Jude practices her swordplay while Cardan reads, major plus being that he reads full series to not worry about Jude so much.
Jude helps Cardan with sword fighting, using wooden practice swords not metal, and Cardan helps her try to get into reading, reading to her as she rests her head on his chest when she doesn't want to read read.
Cardan discovers manga and graphic novels and is too confused for Jude NOT to laugh; "He's in armor made if IRON. How is he able to fly!?" "I've seen a lot people different people, and none of them have made this face." "... So is Spiderman THIS one or THIS one?"
Sword practice usually ends with Cardan on the ground exhausted while Jude simply stands and chuckles for him to get up.
Cardan doesn't get beat smd scarred, he gets poked and minorly bruised, which he was not ready for because of how he was treated by Balekin.
One day, while Cardan was reading some Sherlock Holmes, Jude slipped hoop bracelets on and tied ribbons to his tail, at least as many as she could before she got caught; she only realized as such when his tail started flicking out of her reach and curling around her wrist, and saw Cardan grinning at her.
They do visit Taryn and Vivi still, but Cardan only wears a mask to remind Jude, who does not forget ever.
Cardan thinks about his 'friendship' Nicasia, Locke, and Valerian and semi-realizes that Valerian and Locke may have been using him while Nicasia was at least a little genuine.
They talk about Locke and equally wish that they had helped Taryn in killing Locke. If not, then they wish that they at least watched. They agreed that if time travel was real, Jude could help Trayn kill Locke and Cardan could watch, as long as he helped dispose of the body.
They laughed at that a couple minutes later.
THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS(Featuring the Skellington kids(I'd say Skull Kids, but I feel like Skull Kid(s) was taken)):
Jack knows what a Pandemic is; he lived through one while he was alive.
Sally knew it would happen because she knows one happens about every two hundred years/whenever a year ends in 20.
The triplets know what a plague is, but have never seen one actually happen.
When they explored the human world at night and noticed there were absolutely no humans in sight, Luna reminded her brothers that the humans were told to stay inside to prevent any spreading.
Jacob takes the opportunity to MAKE SURE people actually stay inside.
Pro: he got Instagram famous. Con: Jack and Sally were not happy at all with how reckless he was.
Let's say, for the sake of the story, Halloween had to be cancelled worldwide because regulation and a need for things to get better.
Upon hearing the news of Halloween getting cancelled, Jack was very salty about it; "Why cancel Halloween, if the 4th of July was still allowed to be celebrated?"
All of Halloween Town was very upset; the living are so fragile, it ruins the fun of scaring them.
The Mayor was in deep, DEEP distress, but Jack made it up to him, and the rest of the town, by saying next year's Halloween would be ine no one would ever forget, and it's not because he's 'borrowing' a holiday again, it's because they'll all have a year of scaring shenanigans built up inside them all that will make up for what was missed.
Everyone rejoiced and Jack, once he got back inside his house with his wife and children, sighed and mentally kicked himself for saying no one would forget next year's Halloween; there was one Halloween in particular he sure as hell isn't forgetting any time soon.
Daemon's carving more intricate pumpkins and plans on giving the humans mini-scares so they keep quarantining, hiding a 'surprise' for any entitled Karens he finds.
Luna is the most obedient of the triplets by staying in Halloween Town and instead studying what she calls a 'counter-plague' so there's no need for a Pandemic; she refuses to call it a vaccine because that would imply sje wants to help the humans that shot down and could have killed her dad. She still has a bone to pick.
Jack doesn't spiral out like in the movie, he has Sally to help and the triplets to keep his mind busy.
While Jacob and Daemon keep the humans from leaving their houses, Luna researches the current events and learns of murder hornets that are large, sting like all hell, and cause death to anyone unfortunate enough to get stung.
Jack gets very intrigued and they collect as many as they can and keep them in a jar, but take one out to study it.
They were not impressed; murder hornets? Jack has seen worse.
Since there wasn't a Halloween, Jack decided to walk through the streets, seeing as how Daemon and Jacob already did a lot of the scaring for him(thise little shits). He had to admit, it was nice to walk in the night and only hear the animal sounds and not screams.
Luna did not find a 'counter-plague,' even with Sally's help, but she did discover some poisons she could use against her brothers. Sally made her promise not to do so.
On the Halloween night where nothing happened, Jack took his family out to a picnic/star gazing session. Genuinely one of his favorite Halloweens to date.
HENRY STICKMIM COLLECTION:
Henry and Ellie knew it was going to happen and were more than surprised to also see Charles planning ahead by making a list for what they needed, even admitting he'd been following the news and rumors and stocking up on ADD medicine so he wouldn't have to go out to get them.
The other soldiers weren't worried until they were told to go home and take a break for a little bit.
Triple Threat wasn't really effected until day 24.
On day 1, they just hung out and were relatively calm, working online, doing workouts to stay fit, and just being as normal as possible.
On day 24, all three are more than a little bored. Henry's bored enough to andwer calls from telemarketers and prank them, Ellie's contemplating bleaching her hair with peroxide, and Charles is playing with fidget toys he's bough and collected over the years, though he's doing it more because he's a little stressed than bored.
Henry and Ellie are surprised to this this, but Charles admits he used to bite his nails a lot, but stopped after a LONG while.
Speaking of names, Ellie paints hers and the boys', though while Henry paints his in clear coat, Charles paints one hand black and the other in red, mint, and glittery pink on one nail because try stopping him.
It makes Ellie laugh and pisses off Henry so much.
Ellie gets calls from her family saying they want her to come home, or closer to home, because they're worried and she instead blocks their numbers.
They watch a lot of horror movies as a reason to stay inside.
When they get bored of American horror and try Japanese, Asian, and more western horror movies.
Instant regret.
They watched the movie Audition and Henry looked at a very unimpressed Charles, who said the antagonist was being sloppy, and hid all the kitchen knives, saws, and sharp and blunt objects, including tools(must've remembered Human Piece).
He stopped after a week of Charles being himself and literally shaking at Hannibal Lecter as they watched the Silence of The Lambs series.
All three open up more about their lives. It's ugly, there's yelling, conflicting life philosophies, and even some insults thrown. Henry admits that gotten screwed over by the law enough times while fending for himself to have as little faith in it as possible, Ellie admits she ran away from home and would rather die than go back because of how tight of a leash they kept her on, and Charles admits that while he has thought about quitting on the government and turning to a life of crime, he never did because that would have been to easy of a choice. Training for the military was and still is hard as hell, which Henry and Ellie can tell because Charles can physically do more than them(if they ran a mile, Henry and Ellie would be exhausted and Charles wouldn't even be out of breath), but he's never given up on it because he knew his parents would skin him, if they were still alive.
There were tears at the end, and the team all needing to be alone for a little bit, but they were back together and agreed to be a little more open with each other, since they were a team now.

the younger sibling of the cheshire cat pt 2
Sometimes when you fancy yourself a treat and don't have the energy to steal from the Queen you head over to the March Hare and Mad Hatters tea party and sit in one of the chairs and wait until one of the hooligans notices your presence. And the one to realize that you are there is surprisingly the Dormouse, they could smell the steans of a mistuves felin from a mile away. The Dormouse was hesitant at first but when they saw your wicked smile they let out an ear piercing scream alerted the previously singing fools and chaos erupted. You however watched in amusement at your work as the Mad Hatter and the March Hare tried to catch the Dormouse. After a while it got quite boring, so you took the treat you came for and left with a peap in your paws. You and the Cheshire cat were never really invited to their tea party because of this reason, but that didn't mean that it didn't leave a salty taste in your mouth. The Cheshire cat knows that look in your face and scolds you in a joking manner but he couldn't be any prouder. Like brother, like sister I guess.
Sometimes you will end each other's sentences, whether that is on purpose is anybody's guess.
You both love playing mind games with anyone you meet, no one is safe, not even the Queen but that should be obvious by now.
Believe it or not both of you are great listeners but the way you convey your opinion on the matter sounds like you don't have a clue.
The residents of wonderland are lucky that you both have limits to your chaos, but yours is much more flexible. But sometimes Cheshire doesn't have the same energy as you do when it comes to this.
You like to sleep on the open gras as the sun shines down upon you but be expected to be rudely woken up by someone that got caught in the crossfire of your chaos.
Cheshire would never expose your weak side to anyone but that doesn't stop him from being annoying about it, unless it's serious. Like I discussed in the previous headcanon thingi.
As much as he would sacrifice his life for you he would also just as much sell you soul for a cornchip.
Often in big gatherings when one of you is spotted the other is close nearby. Both of you are inseparable when among the many residents of wonderland. half of them being victims of your trix.
Remember when I compared you to the orange kitten? Well I've got some insight on that. The moment you find a room full of art supplies and paint, oh this place is gonna be in ruen. RIP to whoever owns the place. Knocking buckets full of paint off of high places is so satisfying, just watching the bright color splatter across the floor making the concrete (or whatever floor tile thingi) stand out more. Making a water slide out of paint and sliding down it while getting paint all over your furr. You walk on the sealing, on the walls, brush yourself against multiple pieces of furniture and role yourself on the floor. If your brother is there then he will definitely use you as a paint roller. It makes you all dizzy but it's fun. And to end your terror you finish off by planting your face in a multitude of colors and make the Cheshire cat™ stampe on the wall, with a grinning face and all.
None of you have a coherent sleep pattern which means that sometimes you will be so cunfertibole that you will sleep through a whole day(s). Your brother, however, has a bit more control over his sleep schedule and won't hesitate to rudely wake you up if it's an important event. Or just for shits and giggles.
You are the equivalent of Chaotic neutral and your brother is true neutral.
Sometimes yet not often you will visit the library (or whoever has one) and try to read. But you have the attention span of a goldfish and the next few hours will be spent just looking at the pictures and making a story out of that. Or zoning out and just making a world in your head from the first thing that popped into your mind. It makes you frustrated however and it can lead to you ripping the pages and feeling kinda guilty afterwards. The Cheshire cat notices this and tries to come up with ways to help you but in a subtle way, you know how he is. Like reading the stories out loud to you before sleep, or try to reenact the scene from the story into real life.
If both of you had your own theme songs then yours would be “excited troublesome little calico cat theme”. And the Cheshire cats would be “Ghost Story Cat Theme” on youtube. Or like his actual song that got cut out of the movie called “i'm odd”.
As a creature of the wild hunt it's natural for your instinct to kick in now and agen, for example, marking territory via scratching on trees. Or pounding at fast moving things, like tree branches or someone's tail. Guess whos. These things don't happen all at once but rather as bursts of actions. It's like when I flap my hands when I get excited or bounce my leg under the table when I look at something that makes me happy.
Sometimes, but not often you will use your cuteness as a kitten to your advantage. Like if you get in an argument or when you get into trouble, most people's response is to aww at your cuteness but Cheshire has seen it so many times that it's more of a reminder of how young you are compared to him. (he's kinda jealous that you can get away so easily)
Both of you have a ball trying to one up each other with how bizarre you can change your shape or see how far you can go without your head. Cheshire is a master at this but he enjoys making you think that you have a chance against him. Just when you think you have done it. Cheshire will come up with an even more ridiculous way to change his body's structure to look like nothing you've seen before, it's creative and a terrifying sight, like a creature out of a fever dream. The first time he did it, it scared you, kinda but after a few hundred times you've become familiar with it.
Sometimes both of you like to sing your hearts out in the moonlight, not caring if all of wonderland hears you.
The world is your playground and you're going to make it known to everyone >:)

MTV Unplugged presents: BTS
by Admin 1
What a time to not only be alive, but also be ARMY with BTS taking the MTV Unplugged stage on February 23rd 2021 as the first Korean artists in history to do so. It’s another marvelous achievement on the already highly impressive list BTS have to their name, another mark they’re leaving on history and another piece solidifying their place among musics greatest, at least if you ask me and everyone else who tuned in and was left extremely impressed and emotional, a mix of euphoria, emotional rawness, but also a sense of warm, soft, and gentle comfort and hope.
With this gorgeously put together setlist they’ve also proven, once more, that even when you take away all the high budget stadium stages, the dynamic and explosive choreographies and the fancy music video editing, and just focus on their craft as musicians and their most valuable instruments--their voices--BTS can stand their ground easily. Their talent and passion is unmistakable and shines brightly in all these songs, four of their own and one cover.
The performance was shown simultaneously on dozens of MTV stations across the globe, some watching on TV and others via official live streams, and yet others catching up with what they missed hours later. All the promo, hype and attention paid off and they showed that it was all worth it, that they are more than worth it, and that we as ARMY have every right to be proud of them and be proud of being ARMY.
So, let’s do what I love doing most and talk about each performance, shall we?
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What an absolutely delightful, happy and funky way to open the show and introduce new listeners to just how fun BTS can be. The stage was one giant room filled with lost of little details, including a motorbike with a second passenger extension, arcade games, a football game, and a sofa. Right from the get go there’s this joyful aura around the members, smiles on their faces, little dance moves making their steps light and fun--they were having fun and subsequently we were, too.
How wonderful is it to also finally see Yoongi with them as well, even if it’s very noticeable (and understandable) that he’s keeping his shoulder steady and arm moving as little as possible? After all Telepathy was “his” song for BE and contains lots of little Yoongi signature features, most obviously his knack for playing with autotune in a way that is very audible yet never quite too much, just walking along the line in an interesting way. There’s a genius note change from Hobi in the second half of the song that’s one of the absolute highlights, just like Namjoon and Seokjin doing their little minimal movement dances in the back while grooving along to the music.
Tumblr media
As Vminnies we get our own little treat with Jimin and Tae coming together to sing alongside each other and do their little dance as well which we’ve previously seen during the Dear Class of 2020 performance of Mikrocosmos. Then to finish off their little segment, they also do this funny little thing of pointing at each other with Tae as though acting like he (perhaps) wants to boop Jimin’s face/nose from afar. Absolutely adorable.
Speaking of which, can we talk about their cute Donald and Daisy Duck accents on their clothes and accessories which add this little sense of retro? As well as the fact that Tae is wearing the cardigan equivalent to Jimin’s Gucci sweater from his NOTES on Dis-ease video? I do very much enjoy these little details from the stylists. Also, has anyone else noticed that Tae has different in-ears? His usual ones were green yet here they’re translucent.

The way I gasped when the members turned to Tae and asked him to introduce the next song and he said it’s one that is very meaningful to him, honestly, I can’t even describe it. I was so, so happy but also getting ready to be swallowed by all the feels. I know ARMY sns had theories that we’d get Blue & Grey based on the visuals of that stage which we got in the teasers, and yet somehow I still wasn’t quite ready when the song began and we were graced with absolutely breathtaking vocals that went straight for the heart.
The visuals for this performance were perfect for the song while being interesting yet not too much that it would pull your attention away from the song itself. One by one the members sang their parts and found their places along the two main walls, the lighting cold yet on the white/grey side, none of them really interacting or looking at each other which was fitting with the atmosphere of that blue and grey feeling. Then, for the second half, the ‘stage’ switched to more of a blue lighting and we had moments where first Seokjin and JK sang together and then Jimin and Tae, their voices harmonizing so heavenly with each other yet still none of the members really looked at each other, at most looking into the camera.
I love how this performance put the focus on each member on their own but also in moments on the entire group, that feeling of being alone but never quite alone, that they have each other, and that we have them. Tae also really seemed to be highlighted during this performance, which makes sense when given the history of how the song came to be. But, really, each of them was just as visible and equally beautiful in this.
Speaking of beautiful, my jaw dropped when we got to see (and hear) Namjoon during his verse. Honestly, that mans beauty and handsomeness--it somehow keeps on increasing with each time we see him.
From anon: Omg vmin in blue and grey 😭😭😭. They coudnt even look to each other while singing “Don't say you're fine' Cause you're not Please don't leave me alone, it hurts too much” it’s my fav part by the way and their harmonization it’s heaven. I loved they choose this song to the mtv performance!
youtube
As much as this was supposed to be a surprise, MTV accidentally spoiled it hours before their performance was aired, and yet, despite knowing it was coming, I don’t think any of us were quite prepared for it right after Blue & Grey.
Fix You is a gorgeous song in its original version with a sad backstory, and it’s one of those Coldplay songs that they are extremely selective over when it comes to requests for official covers or use for commercials or movies/shows. They are about their entire discography, but I think it especially goes for this song, and yet they gave BTS the permission to do this official unplugged cover.
We also know the song means something more to the members, seeing as Jimin posted a video on their 6h anniversary showing the members during a trip they’d gone on together while the song is playing in the background. They also spoke about Coldplay during the press conference before their Wembley concerts, and Namjoon and Hobi had gone to one of their concerts a few years ago, as well as Tae on a different occasion. There certainly is a level of admiration and respect involved, a deeper connection to what they were singing, which was very clear and tangible during their performance as well.
Vocal line were truly outstanding in this, especially Seokjin (who took sns by storm as the “pink mic guy” with floods of praise and people wondering who he is, what his name is, because they’d all fallen in love with him--very relatable because same). Rap line switched between harmonizing with the vocalists in their low register and did a beautiful job of it. Namjoon harmonizing with Seokjin truly gave me goosebumps (and made my little namjin heart very happy). We also had Tae and Hobi harmonizing and sharing a brief smile with each other, as well as Namjoon harmonizing with Jungkook and Jimin, and Yoongi harmonizing with Tae and Jungkook.
The stage was also beautifully thought out, minimal yet captivating at once, all the members sitting on barstools in a line with the blinds drawn on the windows behind them, spotlights shining on them from above and others dancing behind them giving them a beautiful glow and turning something simple into something extraordinary and gorgeous. They truly didn’t need any more than that.
Tumblr media
And like their performance wasn’t outstanding enough, we also saw Coldplay themselves not only tweet about it while calling the cover beautiful in Korean (and tagging the member’s twitter account instead of the _bighit one), but also post the same comment below the video on YouTube and share links to it on their facebook and IG stories, as well as sharing the video in their community tab on their YouTube channel.
Tumblr media
So, not only did BTS garner big approval from Coldplay fans and ARMY alike, but also from the original artist. A wonderful moment in music and between two legendary artists in their own right.

This acoustic version of Life Goes On is truly a masterpiece, so calm, soothing and offering that sense of comfort, togetherness, and this reassurance that life will go on, that we’re together in this, that we’ve made it through the blue & grey, that we’ve helped each other to “fix” ourselves, and that we can now slowly heal and grow from the things we’ve gone through. The electric guitar, the slow and quiet drums and on top of that the members voices, all of it coming together truly beautifully.
Their outfits kind of gave me UK private school or University secret society vibes, or as Admin 2 called it “ready to go hunting, we’re just missing our Beagles or Basset Hounds” which isn’t necessarily wrong. And yet the warm shades of brown fit the atmosphere of the song really well, complement it even.
While we’re “used” to vmin having their little moment, we only really saw Tae smiling towards Jimin, though the camera unfortunately didn’t give us a wide shot to see if Jimin returned his smile, though I’ll go ahead and say he likely did if he noticed Tae’s. Though honestly, Tae’s wide happy smile was enough to melt my heart on its own.

And then, to close out the night, we got a very funky and fun yet calm version of Dynamite during which, surprisingly enough, the members actually stay in their seats against all ARMY theories and bets (well, okay, Namjoon stood up for a moment, but sat down really quickly again and no one actually got out of their seats to dance). Who would’ve thought a day like this would come, especially looking at how they got up in previous seated performances of Dynamite.
I love the not so subtle flex of all their gold, silver and platinum records across the wall behind them, as well as their MTV moon men. With how humble they are about their awards and achievements, this felt like a good moment to highlight just how hard they’ve worked, how much they’ve achieved, before they got the chance to be on MTV Unplugged and that truly, if someone deserves to be there and showcase their talents, its them.
Looking at how many times we’ve seen and heard Dynamite, it’s fascinating how they still managed to create a version that was different from all the previous ones and felt fresh and new. Their outfits were simple and all white and thus didn’t pull too much attention onto them leaving the focus on the music and vocals. Tae’s adlibs were absolutely fantastic and they all just seemed to have so much fun with this performance, smiling and dancing in their seats, obviously having a great time. We even got Jimin smiling and scrunching up his nose happily at Tae while he sang!
Overall this MTV Unplugged performance was a wonderful display of their talents and music merits, their vocals and rap, and just how outstanding they are as a group on this vast world stage. The setlist was perfect, though perhaps a little short. Honestly, if you ask me, they could’ve performed five or ten more songs and I would’ve remained glued to the screen through it all. And yet, still, I couldn’t have asked for more. I was left brown away and so extremely impressed despite being ARMY and knowing how good BTS are. They truly manage to find new ways to grow, evolve, and showcase their musicality with each performance. I also love how they don’t shy away from trying new things and challenges, like rap line singing and harmonizing with the vocals.
I’ll definitely come back to watching these stages many times in the future and they’re easily up there in my top ten of favorite performances of all time. Thank you, BTS, and thank you MTV Unplugged.

The CW Rogues: My Biggest Gripe With the 2014 Flash Show
In many ways, the CW Flash show is what got me into comics. While I had watched (and loved) Justice League and Justice League Unlimited and read loads of DC guidebooks as a kid, it wasn’t until I saw a clip from the 2014 CW Flash show that I really got invested in the DC Universe. While I had already started watching B:TAS (and loving it), Batman wasn’t what got me into comics. No, that was the Flash...or rather, it was Captain Cold. While watching a clip from the Justice League episode Flash and Substance on YouTube, I saw a link to a clip from “Family of Rogues” (from Season 2 of CW’s Flash). Intrigued by the premise, I found the show on Netflix, watched the entire episode, and was hooked. Not only was the Flash just as nice as he had been on Justice League, but two of his Rogues were siblings, and they actually cared about one another. I wanted to know more, so I looked Captain Cold and the Golden Glider up. My research into Cold and Glider led me to the other Rogues, and soon I became a Flash fan. I watched the show, I re-watched “Flash and Substance”, I read articles about the characters from the comics...and eventually, I started reading the comics themselves. I loved the characters and the lore, and I enjoyed the generally lighthearted tone of the books even into the modern era. Unfortunately, as I learned more about the comics, I grew less and less interested in the 2014 TV show. It made too many alterations to character I liked in the comics...and eventually, I basically stopped watching the show out of frustration. Ironically enough, by getting me into comics, the show alienated me from itself....and a big reason for that was the way it handled the Rogues. Here’s a rundown of the CW Rogues, and why I was frustrated with most of them.
1. Captain Cold. I actually enjoy Captain Cold on the CW show; he’s recognizable as Len Snart and his sarcasm game is on point. (It doesn’t hurt that Wentworth Miller is really attractive, either). His relationships with Lisa, Mick, and Barry are fantastic, and it’s a relief to have him be treated as a competent threat. That being said...he’s a bit too suave for Captain Cold, isn’t he? Silver Age Cold thought he was suave, but he wasn’t; and modern Captain Cold is middle-aged, grouchy, and very rough around the edges. His smooth, suave nature reminds me more of classic Sam (the original Mirror Master) than Captain Cold.
2. Heat Wave. Dominic Purcell did a great job with the role he was given, and physically he’s an excellent match for Mick. That being said, CW Mick is very different from the Mick in the classic comics, who was a bit dim-witted and rather gentle and sweet for a supervillain. CW Mick, by contrast, is, as I think @gorogues put it, “Hothead McAngryman”, which wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t seem to have bled back into the comics themselves. Villains with fire powers being hotheads is a bit overdone, so I’m not thrilled to see comic Mick being put into that role.
3. Golden Glider. Hands down, Lisa is my favorite of the CW Rogues. Despite the fact that her costume and power set are completely different than they were in the comics, they managed to get her personality down pretty well; making her just as dangerous and competent as the boys. Flirtatious, crafty, devious, and yet still at least somewhat sympathetic, the CW version of Lisa Snart takes home the gold for the best adaptation of a Rogue. If only they hadn’t completely forgotten that she existed.
4. Pied Piper. Note that I have not seen his Season 6 appearance, so I’m just judging this based on his appearances in Seasons 1 and 2. Piper is disappointing; in his first appearance he wasn’t as fun as Silver/Bronze Age Piper or as sympathetic as modern Piper, and I’m not crazy about the idea of him being motivated primarily by revenge on Wells/Thawne, since that wasn’t his motivation in the comics at all. I also don’t remember him being able to puppet or hypnotize people with his music, which is too bad, since that’s his main schtick in the comics. What’s more, if you want to reform a character, don’t do it offscreen via reality warping and then forget about him for four seasons. It sounds like his Season 6 appearance was better, but I haven’t seen it so I can’t comment on it. Also, “the Pied Piper” is kind of a nonindicative name if he doesn’t play a pipe/flute.
5. Trickster II (Axel Walker). Axel was actually decent in the CW show. I still like comic Axel better, but they got the gist of his character down and even made him a bit sympathetic. In fact, he’s probably in the top three best Rogue adaptations that the CW did.
6. Trickster I (James Jesse). I love watching Mark Hamill play CW’s Trickster...but man, he is not playing Giovanni Giuseppi on the CW show. He’s playing the Joker with a different name. It’s especially weird since we know from JLU and that one short where Mark Hamill plays himself, the Joker, the Trickster, and Swamp Thing that Hamill can do a non-Joker Trickster and do it well, so my suspicion is that it was just because Trickster was also the Joker in the 1990s Flash show (where he was also played by Mark Hamill). Regardless, murdering random people and threatening to blow up small children during Christmas is not something the Trickster should be doing.
Although this does prove Mark Hamill could do a live-action Joker. I’d pay money to see that. Mark Hamill is a great Joker.
7. Weather Wizard. CW Weather Wizard isn’t egregiously bad. He’s not out-of-character like Trickster, and he’s not boring to watch, but at the same time it feels like there’s something missing. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t quote Twain. Maybe it’s because there’s not the sense that he was a loser before he got his powers. Maybe it’s because they changed his origin completely (and also made him older than Clyde for some reason). It could even be because he’s not wearing a green leotard with a huge collar, puffy sleeves, and ridiculous elf boots. Whatever it is, though, he’s just missing that spark that makes me like comic book Wizard so much.
8. Mirror Master I (Sam Scudder). I don’t know how you make Sam Scudder more boring than New 52/Rebirth did, but somehow the CW version of the character pulled it off. Granted, Cold had already stolen some of Sam’s characterization, so that didn’t help, but they could’ve leaned into his skills as an inventor or his love of showmanship or something. Instead, we got a generic thug with what was basically Evan McCulloch’s power set. Boo! Boo I say!
9. Top (Roscoe/Rosa Dillon). The Brave and the Bold Top is more interesting than the CW version, and he doesn’t even have spoken lines! That’s how boring this Top is. Also, the gender swap was pretty pointless. I wouldn’t have minded a female Top if she’d been intelligent and creepy and snobbish in the way that Roscoe is, but why even bother changing the gender if the character is going to have such a minor role? They also substantially depowered the CW Top, since Rosa can’t spin at super speed and isn’t telekinetic. A massive missed opportunity.
10. Mirror Master II (Evan/Eva McCulloch). I can’t comment on how good of a character Eva is, since I haven’t watched any of the episodes with her in them, but I will say I am disappointed that the character does not seem to be Scottish, does not have Evan’s weird sense of humor, and lacks his tooth gap.
11. Captain Boomerang (George “Digger” Harkness). Not only did he not actually appear on the Flash, but he was also boring and didn’t even seem to have an Australian accent. I was very disappointed with his role in the CW.
And now for characters who aren’t Rogues:
-CW Eobard is really good. I have no real complaints about him.
-CW Grodd is also really good, though I do wish he was from Gorilla City as per the comics rather than a lab experiment.
-CW Magenta got most of the important character beats down but felt a bit out of place with Barry as the Flash.
-CW Shade was possibly even more boring than CW Sam, which is saying something.
-CW Zoom didn’t really feel like Zoom at all. Not only was it weird to see him fighting Barry and not Wally, but he was just a generic serial killer and didn’t have Zolomon’s unique outlook on the world. The loss of his time manipulation powers was likewise disappointing.
-CW Jay is really good. I love him.
-CW Jesse Quick has very little in common with her comic book counterpart; I like the comic version better but don’t actually mind the CW version all that much.
-CW Wally is decent enough, though I don’t see why they couldn’t have kept him as Iris’ nephew rather than making him her brother. Also, they didn’t use him nearly as much as they should have.
-CW Barry I generally like a lot; Grant Gustin is a good fit for the character. That being said, I do wish they hadn’t given him the dead mom origin, which was a retcon I am not fond of.
-CW Iris is quite good (in the first three seasons, at least); she’s intelligent, loyal to Barry, dedicated to her job, and quite independent. The fact that she and Barry were foster siblings in the CW universe is kind of weird, though, since it makes their romance kind of awkward.
-Joe West is not Ira West (Iris’s father in the comics), but I actually don’t care. Joe West is made of awesome. (I like Ira too, but I like Joe enough that I don’t mind having him replace Ira.)
-The Fiddler on the CW had very little to do with the comic Fiddler.
-I’ve never been particularly invested in the Thinker (comic or show), but I will say that the CW’s version of the character was very different from his comics counterpart.
-CW Ragdoll was just as creepy and unsettling as comic book Ragdoll, though he had a very different backstory.
-I never expected Baby Josh to make it into the CW, let alone as a gender-swapped teenager named Joss who wanted to kill Weather Wizard. It felt like they never knew where to go with her character, though, so it was a wasted opportunity. At least she didn’t die like poor Baby Josh, though.
-Big Sir in the CW show is a MASSIVE improvement over the comic version. This is probably the only character I will say this about. Though I will say that I kind of wish he’d gotten his stupidly ugly comic book costume even though it would’ve made no sense.
-Peek-a-Boo is a pretty solid adaptation of her comic book counterpart.
-Rainbow Raider (Prism) is much better in the comics than on the CW show, where he only existed to be a boring plot device.
-Linda Park dating Barry was weird, but they actually did a good job with her character before she vanished.
This is not intended as a criticism of anyone who likes the show or its characters; it’s just me musing about my personal problems with it.
