I finally watched Gift of the Night Fury and I gotta say this is my favorite characterization of Astrid ever. Like I have no hate against her she’s always just been a yeah she’s cool kinda character to me but her being so optimistic in gotnf bordering on manic is so good to me. Her trying her best to forcefully bring cheer during sad times is so entertaining and gives her the chaotic touch that I always felt her character was missing. And those moments when it’s apparent that she’s really bad at comforting people sometimes is so funny to me it makes her feel a little more real.
Also I think the art style really helped I don’t know how to explain it other than it feels like they syringe fed like two tiny droplets of Tim Burton into it - it gives all the characters a slightly insane look in their eyes favorite animation style for em yet <3
#no I don’t mean that it looks like a Tim burton animation I just have extremely specific ways of describing things#it’s a gut feeling okay leave me alone or2#also did I ever mention that their kid versions are my favorite version designs of them#well I am now#there’s just a really gremliny touch that their adult versions are missing later on#they look feral (affectionate)#gift of the night fury#httyd 1#httyd#how to train your dragon#one of my rare rambling posts#astrid hofferson#gotnf really fleshed out Astrid’s character to me#I wish she was like that all the time

What fans say:
Kung Fu Panda:
Honestly iconic. The progression of story, the message, the acting.
The way this movie balances tone is nothing less than astonishing to me. It's funny and lighthearted but also intense and dramatic and neither ever take away from the other. Every joke and emotional beat lands excellently. Not to mention. The fight scenes SLAP. And so does the score!!
It's just GOOD. I love how all of them were insanely genuine. Po genuinely wanted to be a Kung Fu master. The Furious Five genuinely wanted to be the very best like no one ever was. And Tai Lung genuinely wanted to kick the shit out of anyone that even looked at that dragon scroll. But seriously one of the best movies.
Treasure Planet:
The setting and focal relationship!
WHALES IN SPACE. Second best treasure island adaptation (#1 is muppets). The song The Song!!
Where do I begin with this movie? It blends CG and hand drawn animation beautifully. All of the backgrounds are gorgeous. There are so many cool alien designs. The score is absolutely perfect. The amount of detail put into the design and worldbuilding shines through. All of the characters are so much fun to watch, especially Long John Silver and Captain Amelia. This movie takes at least partial responsibility for my love of space/sky pirates. Also it was actively sabotaged by Disney so I need to vouch for it at every chance.
Space pirates in a classic novel. It's gorgeously animated with a blend of 2d and 3d. Also, LONG JOHN SILVER HAS A 3D HAND thats hecking impressive for a main character to be a blend of the two in 2002. Did I mention the twink protagonist and malewife for the rich halfwit son? The aliens are beautifully unique, and a mantis guy floats off into space. from a pirate ship. because they aren't just space pirates, they're aliens and cyborgs on pirate ships going through space. Which fucking rocks.
It's a genuinely creative adaptation of Treasure Island that has so much heart and incredible animation. It helped pioneer 3D animationa nd it was the first feature animated film to utilize both 2 and 3 D animation
The animation is so good, and the way that the antogonist isn't black and white, he genuinely cares for the protagonist <3
Pirate ships in space!
Watched this on loop as a kid, gave me solace for not growing up with a dad
It fucks
The ☆A n i m a t i o n☆!! And captain Amelia
It's so fun looking, cool character design. It's funny, it's emotional. I love it so very much please aaaaaaa
How this movie looks is absolutely amazing. A space-steampunk pirate story with fantastic visuals and (mostly) great characters. The vibes this movie has are off the charts. Jim is the bad-boy-good-heart kid, the doctor is a silly-goofy-but-oddly-competent support and Silver is a complex father-figure-who's-made-mistakes. Also MORT the cute little jelly that won me over in 0.5 seconds flat. I am also a slut for a good soundtrack and this one SLAPS. I will stand by my opinion that the Russian version of the song I'm Still Here did a better job of fitting the montage and the mood. That's a hill I will die on.

sewing other things
OK so. I have talked about the Loftus Bralette so much on here that one could be forgiven for chuckling gently when i said I should sew other things. But I do actually have several other projects I've been wanting to work on. And i have actually cut some of them out.
Also when I was last at the farm my niece brought me some of her t-shirts and said "I really like this one can we cut it apart and re-sew it bigger so I can still wear it", and I remembered that her BFF's mom, who works at the farm twice a week doing the books and managing store inventory, owns a serger she didn't know how to thread, so I texted her to ask if I could borrow it and indeed she had accidentally unthreaded it and there was a stuck lever and needed me to fix it anyway, and maybe I mentioned that on here but I did actually make my niece a couple of tunics while I was last at the farm. Including hand-sewing a whole bunch of details on the last one while the family was driving on a road trip one weekend.
So I brought all that stuff home with me and was hoping to get to work on it this week. All I've sewn has been the bralettes but I still have today. We'll see what I can get done.
I measured Farmkid and she's ten years old so her shape isn't the same as that of an adult woman, but she's five feet two and like 130 lbs, and some of her measurements put her in a women's size 12. So. She expressed interest in a garment I wear frequently, a Studio Tunic from Sew Liberated. I printed off the pattern in a size 12 and have assembled it, but I'm stuck deciding what fabric to use for her. I should decide that today. She's ten, her favorite color is ostensibly yellow but she mostly wears pinks and purples, she's a grubby kid who wipes her hands on her shirt and always winds up with stains on the belly of her shirt still, and she wants this tunic I think largely so she can cram her tablet into the pocket and go climb trees while listening to audiobooks on speaker. So I want a bright color but not too pale, and I want a tough fabric but not unbreathable, and I'm just. Deciding, still.
Probably what I should do is use some undyed fabric I own, and then bring my supplies and let her tie-dye it. I have a couple other things I could tie-dye, or will by then. That would be a fun bonding activity. I don't know if I'll have time to do it this trip though. So maybe I'll postpone the project and ask her for help once she's on summer break. (Good luck catching her, kids these days have so many summer camps.) As a bonus I bet I could loop her BFF and BFF's Mom in on the tie-dyeing, they're both into that shit.
Hell we could do ice-dyeing, the farm has a 1000-lb ice machine that is very frequently turned on (weekly for the market, biweekly for chicken processing-- there could be ice available at pretty much any time lol).
So anyway. I know she wants me to make a tunic out of a trio of large-print cat shirts she's outgrown, and she wants to wear it for her 5th grade moving up day ceremony, and I looked at it while I was home but I haven't done it yet. I need to get my shit together.
What I might do is print off a size 12 version of the t-shirt pattern I own, it's just that it's designed for busty women because I'm a busty woman, and she's Not, yet (oh, she will be. soon. but not yet.) so I have to kind of. Well, I own a pattern for a swing tunic that's close to what she wants actually. Oh, I should just print that one off. (The joy of the Cashmerette Club subscription patterns is that you get all the sizes, 0-30, and I've now made a couple of them for smaller friends, because like. I mean I own the pattern! PDF patterns are so great because you can reprint them in the smaller size instead of trying to trace it off. I never ever got the hang of tissue paper patterns.)
Yeah here this one, the Wexford Top/Dress, would be easy enough to kind of carve out the bust curve a little and make it fit a kid, because it's not meant to be that fitted. I'll just sort of use that as a general guideline and then make the cut-out-and-patchworked t-shirts fit into that approximate silhouette. The way I made the other tunics for her, I just used a shirt whose neck and shoulders still mostly fit her. But these cat shirts she's thoroughly outgrown, so making a new neck/shoulder area would be best.
Orrrrrr.... I could use one of the zillion old t-shirts of mine that I've saved to cut up. The neck/shoulders of a fully adult-sized garment are no longer too big for her. That's easier.
I also have a bunch of garments I want to make for myself, as I don't seem to buy clothes much anymore (I can't bring myself to pay $40 for a dress off the clearance rack that won't fit me and will mostly be polyester and won't be that interesting and will pill the first time I wash it). The Club's latest pattern is a skort/shorts/skirt dealie, and I need more shorts all the time-- I've largely given up on underpants and just wear boxer-briefs or anti-chafe shorts and I just don't see the point now of wearing a pair of panties and then shorts over the top under my skirt. Like. Just wear the shorts! So being able to choose the materials and print and look of that would be pretty great. And the Cashmerette one is inseam-less, like my favorite anti-chafe shorts are.
So I have cut out a pair of just the shorts in a clearance cotton mesh from Dharmatrading, and I even have the correct elastic for the waistband, so that kind of rules. I will sew those up as soon as I get a chance. I would like to make several skorts as well, probably from synthetic ponte or something, but my ideal would be to get some decent merino/nylon jersey and do a few from that. You never see merino skorts but I would wear the shit out of those.
I also have a lovely underpants pattern from the Club from ages ago, and while I rarely wear underpants of that style anymore, I would like having some cute matchy ones to go with the bralettes. Also, I have a shitton of foldover elastic, and I suspect I could use foldover elastic in some of the bralettes I want to make, so I want to get proficient in its use, and there are directions for applying it in the underpants directions, and it seems like a good way to practice. So I cut a muslin of those from the same cotton mesh as the shorts, and just have to sew the pieces together.
I also want to make myself more pretty dresses, and I have parts of a new Studio Tunic for myself already cut out, but not the rest.
And I recently made myself the button-up shirt from the Club, I know I posted about it on here. And I wanted to immediately make myself several more, and I got out some fabric and prepared it and cut out one pattern piece and then ran out of time. So yesterday I finally cut out the rest of the shirt from this fabric, a print from Mood covered in tiny dinosaurs. So I have that all ready to go in a plastic baggie too, just waiting for me to have time to sit and sew it. (Once I do that, I would really like to make myself a dress version of it from the cool green not-quite-seersucker I got from that remnant bolt at Promenade Fabrics in New Orleans.)
AND. i also have resolved to make my BFF, the one in Rochester who I lived with for a bit in the pandemic, with the little kids-- MM-- I am going to make her a sloper, before I see her next weekend, or maybe while I see her next weekend if i don't get to it in time argh, and I am going to at least try that on her and figure out approximately what shape she is so that I can put together a master pattern for her to make herself dresses from. I took her measurements ages ago, and she's a 14CD bust, a 16 waist, and an 8 hip in Cashmerette's sizing, and so I think just making a sloper with those sizes all graded together will be a huge start. And then we can mildly tweak the fit for her frame, and-- the thing is, she's always buying custom dresses on Etsy because what she wants is very specific and not usually available in stores, and then the dresses come and don't fit her so she has to get them tailored, and then they were just made of cheap quilting cotton from Joann's so they wear out after she washes them a few times, and she's had to add on pockets anyway because they didn't have them.
So I just feel like if I could get her a paper master pattern that fit her... heck i could even just make her dresses if *I* had the pattern. It would be easier and more efficient. I could do the basic construction and then turn over the pockets and embellishments to her, which is what she does anyway. So that's my goal there, and we'll see if I can reach it.
Anyway. If only I didn't have to work at all and could just sew all the time. I am not the first person to say this, LOL.
I have a lot of irons in the fire but at the moment am trapped under a cat so those irons are not going anywhere.

Sooo, after several months of avoiding it in my vid recommendations, I finally decided to go see what Epic: The Musical is all about. And as embarrassing it is to admit, I'm kinda hooked right now. 😅 (I'm currently going through this playlist of various people's animatic interpretations presenting all the songs in order, and I'm only halfway through rn)
Event though I know and care very little about Greek mythology, I gotta give credit to talent where it's due, and Jorge Rivera-Herrans has *definitely* earned it from me. His musical retelling of the stories so far are PHENOMENAL! 😊 I can't even decide on a favourite song 'cause they're all really good! But some are definitely higher up there than others, and the one I'm currently hooked on is "Ruthlessness". So I just wanna throw in a couple of the animatics artists have done for it:
https://youtu.be/0lsYf_0UGLE?si=Zwdr2dLDbtAOMW9L
https://youtu.be/skVSbITX4kY?si=mVjADvKGnnPiqv_N
https://youtu.be/WOgxiS33tME?si=ZE2pfBkSdPREwpRh
The other two are pretty good but AnniFlamma's version will forever reign as #1 for me~ 😄 The way they drew/designed Poseidon is just so hot- I-I mean, stunning- I mean, badass- I mean- .... He's hot. 😳
i know Epic: the Musical! some of my friends forced me to watch it a couple of days before you sent in this ask. i can't find the specific animatic compilation video they showed me, but it had the third version of Ruthlessness in it. i remember that super detailed water animation... that's probably still my favorite, but i can't deny that that horse with human teeth is TERRIFYING, and that gigi's work is peak as always. overall, you have great taste in terms of choosing animatics with backgrounds and ample breakdowns :)
seems we're coming at this from different angles, though. i was pretty into greek mythology as a kid, and i had to read the Odyssey in my sophomore year of high school. therefore, i already knew the basic plot of the musical before i ever heard it, edits they made to the plot notwithstanding. i think i said out loud, "woo, Telemachus time~!" when he first appeared on screen, which is not something you say if you don't already know the story.
still, as both a greek mythology fan and a storyboard artist, i'm glad there's a series out there that's both introducing folks to the Odyssey and giving a bunch of artists an entry point into making animatics. perhaps i'll meet some of these people out in the industry someday. said friend who made me watch Epic has been trying to convince me to board one of the songs myself, but we'll see if that actually comes to pass.
(if i did, i guess it would probably be God Games, as that's the song i remember liking the most. then again, part of the reason why i liked it was because of the accompanying high-octane fight sequences, which are also really difficult and time consuming to board.)
youtube
Another quick Epic mention here just to say that I really *really* wanna see somebody purchase an Aiden & Ally double greeting so they can duet this part of "Done For". With how well they can both sing I just know the combination would be Magical~! 💫🌟🌠😊 (Should probably clarify tho, I think this short was initially a little snippet/teaser before the official release of the Circe Saga, so the lyrics in the finished product are slightest different)
Aiden would be a really good Odysseus, honestly. i don't know about Ally, but i suspect that you won't have to wait too long until someone makes Aiden sing Epic. or, maybe Viester will even just choose to do it himself, who knows.
#epic the musical#disventure camp#aiden disventure camp#i'm just assuming that you've listened to the rest of the musical at this point btw#such that you aren't confused as to who Telemachus is or what God Games is#perks(?) of being really slow to answer asks sometimes#ask tag?????

Is anyone truly deeply aware of The Obscure Adaptation of "The Island of Dr. Moreau" but as a Kids Cartoon? I know that defiantly sounds a hell of a Crazy idea of wanting to Adapt an Sci-Fi Horror Adult Book into a Goofy Cartoon, but believe it or not, this One is not just your ordinary version.
So I've recently been watching a New Obscure Show from Canadian called "Spliced", which is a Semi-Adaptation of One of H.G. Wells' Novels that I've mentioned before, only instead of focusing on Vivisection, it focuses on the Society of Mutant Animal Mashup Hybrid Beasts. But in a Slice-of-Life way, not in a Dramatic tone like how the Book putted in.
Granted, I never really have read the Book before but the Cursed 90s Adaptation is the Only Version that I have seen (have not ever dared to wanting to look into the 30s or 70s one).
So far, the only buildup of trying another Foreign Show but this time from Canada (Which I have seen Many Canadian Shows in My Childhood like with "Ruby Gloom" or the more famous, EEnE or G4's MLP), & despite Me having a more deep touch on Japan, Russia, French, or Ireland (cough, cough, which I am attached to my Most Favorite Foreign Film studios from each of there's, cough), I'm always more open-minded to Other Foreign Animated Media from a Different Country. Which inspired Me to take my own Redesign Trip on the Spliced cast, if they looked more Different or at least Realistically Accurate to their Animal Mashup species while also mixing both the Show and My Own Artstyle.
I was originally going to neglect Compuhorse since I couldn't afford on what to do with Him to Re-design him since I had no idea on how to do a Personal Interpretation Mashup between an Animal with Electronic (let alone have a Horse be implanted with Technology since the Animal Mashups between Two or More Beasts were way easier) but then I instantly did figure out something on how to do by just turning the tables around and have Him in a Wheel Chair with No Legs (as a callback to his own Inspiration since he's a Stephen Hawking based-parody). I dunno, chances are, I just didn't want to leave him out since he's one of the Show's Main Characters.
Princess Pony Apehands was honestly my Most Favorite out of the Redesigns, while her looks may have been based off of the Stereotypical Girly-Girl Pony type, I wanted to redesign her by adding some adjustments to make it more "Modern-like" (inspired by Horseland).
Two-Legs Joe was obviously a twist (I know as to why he is called by that) but since I've "swapped" Compuhorse and Joe in this, I'd figure why not five Joe some Feathers (more as Wings than just Arms) so I guess you could at least say that he's now "Armed-Winged Two-Legs Joe"?, "Winged-Two-Legs Joe"? I just thought maybe a Flying Rhinoceros with Wings would be pretty funny if you're back or your tail is attached to a Bird (though he would pretty much still use his own Legs for Hands).
The Rest of Them were easier since you could obviously tell for Which Character they had More than just One Species being a Mashup of (minus Patricia since she's already an Animal Mashup Born, a Platypus (Duck-Beaver)), but Peri and Fuzzy were very hard, I know Peri is supposed to be Half Octo Half Cat or Fox but to Me, he looked more like a Squirrel so I made him into a Flying Squirrel/Cuttlefish mashup but for Fuzzy, considering that his Mashup Species is nowhere confirmed, I had to do my best coming up with the best instinct of Two Rodent Species of Animal as I theorized Fuzzy to be an Mashup of Two Rodents combined (A Bunny and An Albino Possum or a Rat).

Let's talk more fashion: who are your top ten fictional characters with the best style 🥰
Right off the bat I have to go with Carrie Bradshaw. She annoyed me to no end for most of the series (apart from that one episode where she went to a house party and someone stole her shoes and she insisted that the guests pay her back for them) but I'd be lying if I said that her outfits don't continue to be iconic and they are always going to be a huge chapter of costume design and fashion. Patricia Field really is THAT woman.
2. Rachel Green my forever girl has to be number 2. I love so many things about her style and how it evolves throughout the seasons. In the early days it was jeans, T-Shirts and overalls but in such a chic and 90's way and then as she starts working in fashion and growing more into a more grownup version of herself she has an amazing office wardrobe that I still take inspo from. I also love all her slip dresses.
3. Meave Maisel. I started watching The Marvelous Mrs Maisel mainly because of the clothes and the fact that it was written by Amy Sherman Palladino and I stayed for as long as I did for the clothes as well. I believe the plot got a bit tired and the creators got distracted by the fact that the budget kept getting bigger so therefore they thought the show should be getting flashier instead of more human and funny but you'll never catch me complaining about the costumes because, well look at them!
4. Lisa Fremont. LISTEN. The costumes in this movie (which is Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock) are my Roman Empire. Especially the black and white dress combined with Grace Kelly's incredible beauty makes it one of the most iconic fashion moments in cinema history and we should give Edith Head (the costume designer) her flowers.
5. Fran Fine. It took me a while to realize what an absolute fashion icon this woman is because I didn't watch The Nanny as a kid or teenager (I still haven't watched all of it and I plan on making it right eventually) but omg the absolute serve after serve after serve AFTER SERVE. Plus, that body is bodying. And a special mention to this particular outfit which is all of my dreams coming true:
6. Issa from Insecure
This show's entire costume department deserved all the Emmys, Oscars, Tonys, just everything but Issa's style was always my absolute favorite because it was so versatile and reflected on her character journey as well. Plus I loved the fact that even when she had a casual look on, there were still so many smart details about it. Argh I miss Insecure so much I need Issa Rae back on my screen immediately.
7. Daisy Jones. This character has had a tight grip on my heart ever since I read the book and I knew I'd love her when I watched the tv adaptation but I didn't expect to love her to the point I spent all of last spring trying to find pieces to recreate her entire cool girl hippy wardrobe. And also I just have to mention this "gold dust woman" moment because it was arguably the most iconic outfit of them all
8. Holly Golightly
I don't think I need to say too much about her to be honest do I? Audrey Hepburn is literally a work of art, in this movie and in general. My maybe somewhat unpopular opinion is that the pink outfit is my favorite one :')
Honourable mentions:
Monica Geller/ Blair Waldorf/ Cher Horowitz/ Zoe from Grownish (I hate the show though)/ Devi from Never Have I Ever/ Hilary Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
#flora THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING ME THIS LET'S KEEP TALKING ABOUT FASHION FOREVER :')#also lmao it ended up being top 7 instead of top 10

Ask Comp 28/6
It's in the recs list! I'm very much looking forward to this one.
I've certainly enjoyed what I've read so far - it's been nice to get back to the story's original protagonists.
The main mood of Act 5.2 is one of anticipation. We've been getting glimpses of the kids' Grand Plan ever since the Act began, and it very much feels like it's all building up to something. If Homestuck sticks the landing, and the Act 5 finale lives up to all this hype, then this might end up my favorite part of the story so far.
Yeah it's a session tag - although a 'reading session' is a little ambiguously defined, especially when I stop posting for a few hours and return later in the day. How long a gap does it need to be before it qualifies as a new reading session?
I've just been tagging every post made in the same day as the same session. It's not a perfect solution, but it'll do.
Wow, it started in 2010? I could conceivably have been reading Paranatural in school - although I'm glad I came to it a little later, so I wasn't constantly waiting for updates.
Big red peepers. I'll admit I didn't really think of this as a reveal, but I suppose it is our first true peek behind Dave's shades.
Based on this, it's it's probably safe to assume that all the kids have eyes matching their text colors. Has Rose been blessed with the legendary mutation, Alexandria's Genesis?
A few people mentioned this Squiddles meme. I like it, it's very Trunk & The Grunks.
I've really gotta catch up on those albums at some point...
I did wonder if Bro's sword shenanigans were something to do with Dave's Quest - like, maybe he was bequeathing his anime sword to his brother, to accomplish some objective. Now that Dave has his own Quest sword, I think that interpretation is less likely.
Symbolically though, I do think it's notable that Bro's sword is intact, and Dave's is broken. It ties into how Dave sees himself as a worse version of Bro, on some level.
As far as Jack is concerned, I doubt the game intends for him to have anything to do with Dave's journey. The whole point is that he's ignoring the game's rules - so if anything, his antics might start to break the Quests.
It sounds like the style was supposed to take readers aback - although I didn't find it particularly jarring myself!
Homestuck's art style is constantly changing, with this, the Earthbound sprites, and Hero Mode, among other things. Honestly, I had just assumed that the comic's art just fluctuated depending on Hussie's mood.
I quite like the HussNasty panels, and I hope Hussie keeps experimenting with the comic's art. It sounds like this is the beginning of a more general trend, so I'm hopeful that it will continue.
Oh, so it just straight up is Excalibur.
New theory about his Quest, then. It's about worthiness, and Dave is being tasked to 'prove himself' as a hero, despite his insecurities. This ties neatly into the next set of asks below:
Anonymous asked: my headcanon (partially supported by the text, as you've seen from rose's conversation with jaspers) is that each quest is designed to help you self-improve, so that you can responsibly preside over an entire universe. whether you agree with the game about the ways you need to improve is another story.
I've speculated that the Quests are teaching the Players how to sculpt their universe. Building on from this idea, then, these asks speculate that Quests are also trying to improve the Players as people, so that the nascent universe will flourish under their care.
It's an interesting idea - although it does beg the question of why Sburb is creating such flawed Players in the first place. If it's looking for self-actualized custodians for its universe, why did it create Players like the trolls, who wanted to rule over their universe like tyrants?
I guess it's possible that a flawed Player who self-improves is actually more resilient than a flawless Player who never needed to change. The former would potentially be more resilient, capable of adapting to the changing circumstances of their universe as it grows and evolves.
I wish! That's more of an aspirational schedule, really. I should probably delink it, if it's causing confusion.
I'm not sure whether this is Karkat's canonical birthday - but if it is, I like the irony inherent in the fact that he's not even a Cancer.
Yes - although I don't blame you for forgetting, since I don't think I've referenced it since the literal first post of the liveblog!
Oh, god, messages from 2024? Is Tumblr using Trollian as a backend?
Bizarre. I assume, then, that the trickster code was cut as well. :(
If we assume that Sburb did evolve, then it makes sense that it works this way. However, if it was created by some intelligent being, then holding the Players hostage like this seems pretty malicious.
I mean, there are ways to ensure participation in the game that don't involve destroying an entire planet. No matter how clear you were about the risks, if you asked the population of Earth for volunteers, you'd be guaranteed millions of responses.
All that said, if Sburb worked this way, we'd have a very different story. I understand why Sburb works the way it does, in the context of Homestuck's themes.
Speaking of Kingdom Hearts, I'd kind of love for Sora to visit a Homestuck world. His Keyblade upgrade could be the Wrinklefucker - and he'd have to unlock Vriska as a summon, right?
Do it. I've been rereading GtN this week, and as far as I'm concerned, Alecto can't come fast enough.
It is she. The million dollar question, of course, is whether Taylor is ultimately more of a constructive or destructive character.
I mean, I have an opinion, but resurrecting The Great Taylor Hebert Debate on this blog would be an exercise in hubris.
@wickedsick asked: The typically accepted name for Girl Egbert is June, after that one time Vriska spelt John with 64 O's and Egbert said they read it as a really long "June". [...]
Oh man, imagine being trolled by Vriska was your trans awakening. How would you ever recover?
Jokes aside, I like June, It's cute. I feel like if John transitioned she'd choose another 4 letter J-name like that, or a name from one of her movies, like Dana or Janine.
Come on - I'd be shocked if Homestuck didn't end with the straight characters getting outnumbered at least twenty-to-one.
Looks fine to me, I think. I assume the website just hiccupped - wouldn't be the first time!
It blows my mind every time I remember that Undertale came out in 2015. The beginning of the Undertale Era feels like it started simultaneously six months ago, and twenty years ago.
You open the TYPHEUS web browser and direct it to what is indisputably the most amazing website ever created.
Au contraire, my friend - Typheus showed up way back in Act 1!
[ I can't send them yet because they'd tell you a lot about the aspects, but someone sent classpect headcanons for discworld characters and they're SO GOOD - C ]
Damn it, I can't wait. Just based on what I've recently learned, I am convinced Rincewind would be the Something of Light.

This took a little too long & I've also been having multiple days were I've felt too exhausted to get onto my laptop to post this. Sorry about that.

I was commissioned by my friend @tay-likes-toons to make this for their rewrite/reimagening(LINK) of their fanfic(LINK) Your Favorite Martian the movie which was a fic made with the help of an RP we did to likely get some inspiration for some stuff.
The fic was meant to take place after the final episode of Your Favorite Martian the series were Puff risked house arrest(well he had to stay close if not fully in the tour bus) to have a date night with Tig. In YFM the movie Puff was able to get with Tig after getting out of jail but an incident led to their divorce & Puff living a miserable life in a run down house. At some point Puff meets a fan of the band at a bar he regularly goes to, in an attempt to show off/woo her he convinces her to travel with him to get the band back together. There does seem to be a problem though, the band split up when he went to jail so he has to go searching for them as they have moved on & got their own lives. Another issue is a mysterious person that seems to have plans for them.
The rewrite has been changed some, instead of being after the house arrest episode Puff gets arrested for drunk driving & causing some serious issues. The band broke up & left having had serious issues/life changing of their own at the time of Puff's arrest. Years later Puff is a drunk that misses the good days & his marriage is on the rocks thanks to becoming strained due to Puff becoming disillusioned. Everything seems to turn around when he meets Dimentia, a fan of his that he by chance met at a bar. She leads to Puff deciding to get the band back together to impress her(along with wanting his old life back) leading to the two going on an adventure to find the other band members who have moved on & try to convince them to come back. As they travel around & see what Deejay, Axel & Benatar are up to someone seems to have dark plans for the band.
Vincent asked me to draw everyone in the art style of gen 2/reboot YFM, it was tough but I finally got everything setup. A lot has changed since I last drew everyone, Dimentia while mostly the same as ever has had a big design change.(Link1 & Link2 to old refs)
I'm making this a little too long so I'll put some stuff under a keep reading & put the bios in posts meant to be splitting everyone up into groups. There's some extras under keep reading so hope you like it.
Links to cropped vers:
Puff & Dimentia | Deejay & his family | Benatar, Axel & their kids
This started out as wanting to make a second pic of Benatar & Axel without the apron & Axel off the clock, in the end this ended up just an extras section for some stuff I wanted to draw & alt outfits.
Left to right
Dimentia: This is an update of her original design for the original version of YFM the movie. This is a mix of a Kisekae version of her meant to be a ref & the design I sketched at some point.
Benatar: Exactly what it says, just a better look at him without the apron on
Axel: Axel off the clock with his hair untied & his favorite hat on. His daughter put a sticker on & he likes it cause it makes him think of Nicki.(She also put the drum sticker on his clipboard)
Pixie: This is the very first version of Pixel, Pixie was an OC Vincent made to pair with Deejay. It's also at this moment of typing that I realize I forgot her tights that have holes in them & I can't do anything about that.(Well I could with some editing) Link to reference pic of Pixie, link to sketches I made of past designs for Pixel.
"Original" Pixel: This is a design that was going to be Pixel's design for the original YFM the Movie, he's meant to be pastel goth. There were other designs that I drew them in in the past but the designs are too detailed in certain parts to try & the design refs were lost to time, in fact I remember checking something & the description mentions I had a fit over dealing with all the details. I guess you could say this is the most recent version of the design I guess.
Club outfit Pixel: This is an alt outfit for the current version of Pixel, for the club they work at with Deejay
YFM Watcher: He's not really suppose to be here I just wanted to try drawing him in gen 2's art style.

ACTUALLY piggybacking off that ask I guess I've never explained WHY Somnia is so important to me. So I guess there's not a better time than now to explain the backstory of how Hypno is my secret #1 favorite Pokémon that I don't talk about
Amazingly this story starts of when I was like. A really little kid. First learning how to read. I had this book called The Dream Eater where a little kid helps a town plagued by nightmares after saving a baku, a mythical Japanese creature that eats nightmares. It was one of my favorites growing up.
When I got into Pokémon (like really into Pokémon, I've been interested since I was 4 but I only started having my life revolve around it when I was 11 or so), I realized that Drowzee was based on the same legend, so naturally I grew to like them a lot. The thing was that I was also starting to get invested in Pokémon Creepypastas around that time, so it was impossible to ignore its evolution's... reputation. Not to mention how comfortable some people were making jokes about said reputation in reference to me liking them. When I was a child.
I really hated that this seemed to be all people could talk about when it came to this cute little fictional animal. In a weird way, it reminded me of how people act like sharks or snakes are evil (both of which I was also an avid defender of when I was younger lmao). In my frustration, I wrote a now-lost "parody" Hypno's Lullaby where a Hypno was abandoned after evolving even though she was the Specialest Most Nicest Pokémon in the World. The Hypno in this story was named Somnia. While the original version of the story is gone and I haven't gone through the trouble of finding my old art of her, I did redesign her in early 2023:
Around the point of her redesign, as well as me deciding I wouldn't rewrite the story on account of it being more or less hate art for another story lmao, I decided that if I ever found a shiny female Drowzee or Hypno, I would take extra good care of her and have her be Somnia's "good ending". Lo and behold, a few months later, I found one during Safari Week. As I'm friends with a couple people who do Ribbon Masters, I decided I would do the same for her. And now, instead of a haggard, tragic Poképasta OC, this is Somnia's official final design:
The world may be against Hypno, but I am it's strongest soldier. We have been bonded since my childhood and I refuse to let people continue to tarnish its name with their gross and cruel idea of jokes. Hypno is a cute Pokémon and I'm tired of pretending it's not
Now I just need them to add Hypno to Pokémon Sleep so we can come full circle /j
#ty for reading this if u did my heart is full of love for misunderstood and frequently bashed pokemon#💛#the plush is so dirty because its too small to cuddle. so shes on my display shelf#i hope they make a big one one day HDJWHDJ#pokemon#somnia the hypno

Catti and Monster kid walk sprites ^_^ + snowy
Hey look at these!!! I decided to throw my metaphorical hat into the metaphorical ring and try to give some of these dorks walk sprites. They're kinda rough around the edges but I think they turned out pretty good for only being around an afternoon's amount of work. I gotta say though each of these feels like they have their own story of how they were all uniquely a pain in the ass to make.
SNOWY
Starting with everyone's favorite deltarune character, Snowy! Holy hell! How I hope to never make a sprite for this dork ever again! In a game full of relatively simple character designs this dude just stands out as a beacon of complexity. He's just so weird man.
Now actually I completely forgot that he already had a sprite for him facing to the left in the game. (It's only used twice in the whole game). And I really didn't expect him to be that uh, flat?
Yeah, I don't know I guess he got hit in the face with a frying pan or something.
MONSTER KID
This little charmer was easier to sprite by several orders of magnitude. One of the reasons why is that 30% of their directional movement sprites were already done. And the reason I say only 30% of its done is because the one used in game is uh...
... Just the sprite that's used when they're sitting at their desk in class. Seriously! Thats their walking sprite! When MK and Snowy run away from Susie at the bunker, they just slide out of there!
Now to be fair they're gone in like half a second so it's pretty hard to notice if you aren't looking for it and its also probably why the spriters didn't feel the need to give them walking animations yet. but whenever I see this scene used in a theory video about the bunker I always chuckle.
But still, it was very helpful to have a sort of jumping off point for making their sprites. Since I wasn't just going to reinvent the wheel and draw them a whole new face. But I did need to give them a new body though, since I doubt monster kids body is a perfect cone from every angle.
CATTI
Now the thing is that there many very talented pixel artists that work on deltarune... Toby fox is not one of them.
Now I only mention this because with the fucking 2 sprites, that catti has in the game there is a pretty clear difference in artistic ability between them.
One sprite of her in her work uniform with shading. And one sprite of her sitting at her desk that uses flat default MS paint colors. Thats all I have to work with.
So, assuming that god is good and that the sprite that doesn't look like pixel barf is the one that more accurately represents her design. I used that to reference the color of her earrings and eyes. Along with her head sprite, since again, don't need to reinvent the wheel. Especially since I don't imagine her face shape completely changing once she changes her clothes. But I did add some shading since I though it looked nice.
After I had the head done, I decided to sprite... well, the rest of her. I sorta skimped out on the front facing body. And just made it a heavily altered version of Catty's. I only did that because every other member of the family pretty much just has the same body. And since shes related to them I thought it made sense to not make her some weird outlier to the rest of her family. Contrary to what Catti may tell you in game.
Making the directional sprites felt like pulling teeth. Once I had the down sprite done the up sprite was a piece of cake but oh man. The horizontal sprites. yeah uh, that's... probably not what that sprite is going to look like in deltarune.
Her head shape was tough, I didn't know if she had a prominent snout, or if her head is just completely round like it is when looking at it from the front. But after messing around with it while listening to the entirety of RV pine's fanmade chapter 3 soundtrack. I finally got something passable.
But that's about it, I guess. I know I just got done complaining about how these were super-duper hard to make and stuff. But it was pretty fun to make these.

Since some people seemed interested, here are some music vids I'd love to make if I ever get the chance to start animating again (under a read more cause there's a lot of them):
Lithium//Evenescence- edgy Snowfrost PMV about her crimes. The vid would follow her actions from the beginning of Snowfrost's Fate all the way to her death at the end of Moon Rise. I would probably give cats edgy 2008-esque designs to go with it, because I'm crazy about that kinda thing. (This is the one I want to do the most tbh. I've already got a script made. If I could pass it on to someone so they could make this PMV real I would. I'd literally make all the designs for it too, probably even storyboard it)
We Are One//song from The Lion King 2- AMV featuring Wolfheart singing to Moonpaw. It'd probably be very colorful and have a lot of movement and would be a killer to animate. Their relationship is important and I like things that can show it
One Lonely Visitor//Chevelle- PMV about Jaybird and her relationship with her sister Snowfrost, taking place from Snowfrost's Fate up to Jaybird's death near the end of Moon Rise (another one I really really want made. This one also has a script created for it)
Pardon Me// He is We- This one would be a AMV/PMV mix; it would be about Snowfrost and Wolfheart's feelings for each other, which slowly fade over time. The vid would start out lighthearted, maybe colored in pastels, then become metaphorically and literally darker as the song progresses. Eventually it would depict Snowfrost having delusional thoughts about Wolfheart, about getting him back, or possibly making him another of her victims
Look What You Made Me Do// Taylor Swift- ok listen. I am not a fan of Taylor Swift, especially not this song. But after listening to it multiple times a day on the radio at work years back, back when SOTM was being plotted, I started imaging Situations to cope with it. And this song ended up perfectly fitting Nightshade's story in my head. So this would be a PMV about that. (Can't elaborate what that story is cause its major spoilers, you'll just have to wait and see.) This would be a vid I'd make by the time half of, if not all of, Moon Fall becomes published
Ghost// Saint Asonia- probaby a PMV/AMV mix including all the point of view characters in Signs of the Moon, and how they handle being a prophecy kid/having an omen hanging over their heads. It would probably be heavily focused on how these cats look to or turn away from Starclan for it as well. There would be a lot of action/movement/colors during moments when the music swells and especially during the bridge of the song (did I ever mention this is one of my favorite songs ever?)
Poor Unfortunate Souls//song from The Little Mermaid (animated version)- AMV/PMV of Hazepaw being visited by the ghost he's led to believe is Sea Breeze who's trying to help him
Pet//A Perfect Circle- AMV about the future POV Possumpaw and how he deals with his manipulative mother and asshole brother. The whole thing might be in black and white with the only color coming from cats' eyes and blood/tears. I have to think about Possumpaw's story more before I come up with specific details about what goes on in the video. I have a couple of ideas tho
Blue Lips//Regina Spektor- Swiftcloud AMV/PMV mix highlighting all of Moon Rise cause I think it'd be neat. The whole thing would be in grayscale with some details colored in blue
Brutus//The Buttress- Another PMV starring Nightshade. This one specifically is about her relationship with her mentor, Wolfheart. How much she looked up to him at first, then slowly came to hate him and seek his downfall
Lemon Boy//Cave Town- PMV about Urchinpaw and Hazepaw's budding friendship. The story would probably be told through Urchin's POV
Criminal//Britney Spears- PMV featuring Cloudypaw (a major character in Moon Fall) and her fatal attraction towards Nightshade's son, Weaslepaw
Behind Blue Eyes// Limp Bizkit- another PMV about Snowfrost and her story, told from more "sympathetic" pov because we support womens wrongs <3 this vid would show a lot more of the isolation and loneliness Snowfrost feels especially as she goes down her murderous path
How to Save a Life//The Fray- AMV with Tigerpaw/lily and Moonpaw/face regarding Moonpaw's cross clan friendship with Hazepaw/storm. The vid would be in Tiger's POV, showing her concern for her friend. Throughout you can see Tigerpaw's dislike and mistrust of Hazepaw while Moonpaw remains blind to his flaws. The disagreement puts a strain on the friendship which will also be shown thru the vid
Hellfire//song from The Hunchback of Notredom- AMV featuring Darkpelt who sings about his emotions pertaining to Nightshade (can't elaborate much because spoilers, but the tl;dr is he has a massive crush on her and does Night's bidding because of it, but he hates it as it goes against Starclan)
Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)// Chevelle- an AMV/PMV mix focused on Whisperpaw and her relationship with her family + dealing with her secret "ability"
Genius Next Door//Regina Spektor- another PMV about Swiftcloud. This time its her during Moon Fall, watching her kits grow and make choices, while her clan falls into chaos once more due to plot events I can't reveal atm
Warbringer: Jaina (Daughter of the Sea)//song from World of Warcraft- I have 2 different PMV ideas for this one. One is of Snowfrost's time at the beginning of her Super Edition, where she's dealing with her punishment of a Warriorpaw Ceremony and her growing feelings of anger during it. The other idea is a depiction of Sea Breeze's story
Werewolf// Motionless In White- Werewolf! Hazepaw AU. Idk how else to explain this one. I'd have to show the script for others to understand what it's about (its a WIP). This would be a Halloween video
Sally's Song// cover by Amy Lee- a PMV of Moonpaw singing about Hazepaw, with frames showing their relationship
#warrior cats ocs#can you tell I like edgy rock music and disney musicals or#also this list is ever growing cause I always come up with new ideas#I'll start a new post once I think of more#also when I say “start animating again” I do mean it. I used to animate using flipnotes and posted on hatena#theres an archive out there n I have my vids on it if anyone is interested in seeing em. although they're from 2012-2013#so the art is bad lol. but Im still proud of them#I miss animating. I'll try n get back into it when I get a new and powerful enough pc#for now all these amvs will remain dreams#sotm video ideas#viti shoosh

Again me. X3
Why you're choose sloth for your spidersona? I can guess they're cute but maybe you have other reasons x3
One more thing.
Can you write your opinion on The Spectacular Spider-Man's Mysterio nd Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio? I'm alright if this will be different from what I'm thinking.
Hello hello again!
This will be a long response:
===
1) I tried to make a spidersona before that was like a Spider Crab/Japanese Spider Crab because "spider" and also those are my favorite crabs ever, as well as just to be silly, however nothing was working, so I gave up and forgot about it until this year. I really love sloths, they're my favorite animal ever and so I had the brilliant idea to make mine a sloth instead of a spider! Really makes mine stand out from the rest, plus it wasn't too hard to design it in a similar way to spiderman! Lots of similar design elements, like the black around the eyes and all!
I am also archnophobic and think sloths would be more friendly. It also makes people underestimate me in a fight with their preconceived notions of how sloths are vs how I actually am because of my enhanced abilities from being bit by the genetically modified spider!
Also makes my spidersona more unique and personal to me 💕 and you're not wrong about sloths being cute!! They're adorable 🙏💕🦥
..I did recently draw up a quick concept of an alternate spidersona for myself that is actually based on a spider like everyone else, the spider I chose was a Bunny Harvestman:
They're the only spider I can withstand looking at surprisingly (they're kind of cool?), plus.. cute bunny.. and a nice color palette!
----
2) I never saw Far From Home, but I am disappointed that the character isn't a rejected melodramatic theater kid with a background in the movie making business. That's all I've really gathered about him. I like my Mysterio/Beck to be a goofy funny silly guy who can be a real big threat and very serious when he wants or needs to be. I just feel his character wasn't done the justice he deserves, I guess. I don't have any desire to watch FFH to gain a more thorough opinion on Jake's take on the character tho, unfortunately.
I hope that's not disappointing?
TSSM's Beck/Mysterio, however, is by far my absolute favorite version of him and I've grown so fond of the one from the Amazing Mary Jane mini comic series where he works with MJ to create a biopic of himself. (Learned it's a part of a bigger more complex story and all but ehh, I'm gonna ignore everything before and after that little series. It's better that way. More enjoyable to imagine Beck just really wanted to make his own biopic movie with no real bad intentions or ulterior motives for making it. Genuinely his character was so cute and charming in that comic, oh my gosh 😩💖)
I haven't read really hardly any comics tho, but I just wanted to mention that!
Anyways TSSM's is absolutely my favorite above all others. He's everything I like about the character and then some! A shame the cartoon was canceled because I would have LOVED to see more of him. That's the version of the character that got me into him, got me to like him (also I mean, Mysterio's design in general from almost anything he's been in has been really eye catching and appealing, so..) and is also the main base of inspiration to my own version of Mysterio/Beck and his personality and overall design.
Smoochable blorbo 💖 would hold hands with him if I could..

I have to ask gar
I already did Gar but I can do him again no problem >:)
First impression
THAT'S MY SON. I first saw him when I found clips of Titans on youtube and Beast Boy has always been my favorite so when I saw him in Titans OH MY GOD my heart EXPLODED. I fell in love immediately 💚 He's the only reason I started watching the show and he's still the only reason I go back and watch it.
Impression now
Even though he's treated worse than a side character, what little they did with his character is everything I wanted from Beast Boy. Even as a kid I got bored with Gar being the "stupid one who eats pizza and says dude" and wanted more darkness to his character, and Titans gave me that.. in like tiny amounts but still! I got angsty shit to work with. Other than his character being upgraded, can we acknowledge Ryan Potter for a second because his performance was utter perfection 🤩 Gar probably wouldn't be as great of a character as he is if Ryan didn't get casted as him. Ryan's Gar will forever be my go-to version.
Gar is my special boy who's constantly spinning around in my brain. Whether it's strictly Titans!Gar or my own version of Gar, he's always up there 💚
Favorite moment
Other than the ones I mentioned in my other ask, I really like the scenes where Ryan actually got to have emotion, like when Gar finally snaps and yells at people. A scene from s3 where Gar is yelling at Dick to stop his lone wolf bullshit and starts to beast out is sooo good. And for the same emotional acting reasons, the scene when he tears that dude apart and is terrified afterwards in "Asylum" is heartbreakingly amazing.
Idea for a story
In the show, I wish they actually did something with the Red. They made it seem like it was gonna be important to the main story but it wasn’t, it could have been cut out of the plot and nothing would change. I would have made it way more important to the season, like use the comic storyline it comes from. Brother Blood wants to resurrect Trigon but can't without the Red so he goes after Beast Boy to use him as a sacrifice since he has a connection to it.
In Titans it would be Mother Mayhem but the same idea, she wants Gar because he has most powerful connection to the Red anyone’s ever seen and then cue all the angst of Gar realizing it's him who's a part of a world ending prophecy this time. Plus we'd learn much more about the Red that way.
Unpopular opinion
I said it once and I'll say it again: I don't care for his suit. The design is just weird to me and looks extremely out of place next to to the other Titans' suits. Also what's the point of giving him a suit that shapeshifts with him when he rarely ever shapeshifts?? And by the end of the series he's living in the Red dimension and isn't a superhero anymore.. so??? It was just a check box thing I think, no real thought put into it other than "we gotta do this before the show ends".
Favorite relationship
Besides Rachel, Gar's relationships with the others is very surface level and can be boiled down to one thing. No one shares any deep connection or has any meaningful scenes with him (again, besides Rachel), it's mainly mission related or to set up a joke when the others interact with him. I can not think of a single scene where one of Titans had a regular conversation with him. So I'm going with his relationship with the Red, it was super cute and it's a fact it cares a ton about him. It changed it's color for him because he likes green that's so 🥺 he's the favorite child fr and he deserves to be.
Other than Titans, I greatly enjoy writing my Gar's relationships in Escapism obviously lol
Favorite headcanon
A universal one I use for my fic is that he does have pointy ears, fangs, and claws but learned how to temporarily shapeshift them away so he could blend in with other people and explore places outside the manor without unwanted attention. And I imagine he can have a tail too. His human form is just that, another form he can shapeshift into. It's a disguise to look normal enough so he can exist around others without feeling like a monster.

you've ever commented about Roger and Hammerstein's Cinderella? I've just watched the Brandy version and it's been one of my favorite Cinderella versions since i was a kid. the sets, the chemistry with the leads, the music, it's gorgeous. i love the themes they discuss about love in "do i love you?" song too.
Hi there! I just want to clarify- there are about three main versions of Roger and Hammerstein's Cinderella that I acknowledge, in the Julie Andrew's version, the 1965 release, and Brandy's- there are also, obviously, the live performances, but the aforementioned three are the ones most notable in film form. For the sake of this answer, as you've later specified Brandy, I'll be speaking to the 90s edition!
I think it's charming, whimsical and very quaint! I enjoyed it as a child and I think it's an appropriate 90s telling with lovely live action effects and perhaps the best overall music of the three versions. As I mentioned, I did enjoy it as a child and while it never particularly resonated with me personally, I do think it has value and I've been pleasantly surprised by the boom in popularity it's received in the past decade (if only Disney could release it in HD!). Of the songs, I'm in love with Whoopi's almost haunting rendition of "Do You Love Her" (that song in general has some of my favorite lyrics of all time- it's even in my blog title!) and the duet that Brandi and Whitney sing on the way to the ball is incredibly well done. While I love the Cinderella story itself, I'm spoiled because I've witnessed Ilene's Cinderella and, to this day, I think she's the only person who's ever completely captured Cinderella and was the character. Brandi's take is lovely though, Whitney is delightful as the Fairy Godmother, the stepsisters are great fun, too. It's not one of my favorites- I'd probably place it more in my mid-tier of Cinderella retellings- but I think that mostly comes down to personal taste and preference. Again, I really do like it and I'll readily watch it (any of you, feel free to let me know if you'd all like to stream it one night!). The acting I think is on the weaker end of the three versions I discussed previously, but the music makes up for it and it's incredibly unique in terms of visual design and it added its own twists to the story, which are always nice to see in a more broad telling of Cinderella like the Roger and Hammerstein's version.

For the Pokemon ask do Exp. Share, Master Ball, and then whichever gen is your favorite and whichever type is your favorite!
Exp. Share: Your first Pokémon game & when you played it
Ruby version for the gba (actually played on my DS lite tho). I did some math and iirc I was like 12/13 at the time. There's actually a funny anecdote about how I got into pokemon in the first place – I was at summer camp and there was this kid one or two years older than me who had brought his gameboy and spent every lunch break playing pokemon Ruby. He was kind of the “cool kid” so everyone naturally gravitated around him. One day me and a couple others went up to him and asked him if he could show us what he was playing. Fast forward two days later and I was pestering my parents for a pokemon game. One of the best decisions I've ever made, honestly asdfghjk
Hoenn still has a very special place in my heart for that very reason and some of my all-time favourite 'mons are from gen III!
Master ball: favourite legendary
Ho-oh, Latias and Latios
I don't have much to say about Ho-oh, other than I've always really liked how it it looked and, since I was too young to play Gold when it came out, when I finally got my hands on HG I literally rushed it until I could finally get my hands on it.
Latias and Latios, on the other hand, I like both the design, their unique typing, and the lore around them (they're twins, how cute is that??). I think that, despite blue being my favourite colour, I like Latias a little bit more? But they're so similar that picking just one didn't feel right, so yeah.
Favourite pokemon of my favorite gen (gen III)
Flygon
My boy. My son. Absolute peak design. Jokes aside, this is very much a case of "I don't know why I like this specific 'mon so much, but I do". I guess I just find its design very unique for a dragon type and very pleasant to look at, not to mention the fact that I've grown even more attached to it ever since having it on my main team last time I re-played B2W2, a couple years ago. It looks friendly and I want to be its friend :)
Favourite pokemon of my favourite type (flying)
You know, up until a few months ago I would have said fire was my favourite type without a doubt. But lately I just sort of realised that in terms of sheer numbers there are actually more flying type 'mons I like using than fire types, so flying it is! I narrowed it down to these three:
Talonflame, Altaria, Wattrel
Using talonflame a lot is legit one of the few memories I have retained of my pokemon X playthrough (the other is a random shiny Sylveon I got from wonder trade that basically became my ace). The design is simple, but imo it works well for what it's trying to represent. Then again, I might be biased because I've always liked 'mons that are basically "what if this real-life animal had a cool elemental power?" 😂
Altaria is one of those nostalgic faves that bring me back to my early days as a pokemon fan. I vividly remember seeing the Altaria in Winona's team and being like "WHAT IS THAT I WANT THAT". Except it was my very first pokemon game, kid me had no concept of how evolution worked just yet and also had very limited access to the internet. I don't know how it dawned on me that I had to catch a Swablu and train it in order to get one, but I do know that I was ecstatic when I finally did!
Another new entry from SV, I was so excited to see this little guy leaked. I've seen a lot of people online complain that Wattrel is just some bird, which I guess it's true, but I happen to like just some bird. Plus, flying-electric is a very cool type combination that makes it and its evolution a lot of fun to battle with too. I went with Wattrel instead of Kilowattrel simply because, visually, I like the small guy a little bit more.
Thank you for the ask, this was lots of fun!

Adding a bit more because the movie being about to come out soon reminded me of this post : ok so the way I described my issue with Peach here is actually pretty stupid. I think sometime before this post I saw a video talking about the issues with the “strong female character” archetype in which they mentioned how those characters showed little emotions, were kind of douchey and knew how to fight perfectly, all of which are more stereotypically masculine traits. Hence me saying they made Peach masculine despite her design still being as hyperfemme as ever. Doesn’t change my issues with what we’ve seen of her from the trailers tho.
Also fun fact : after seeing a bunch of people make their own Mario universe headcanons recently, I kinda got into the fandom and, the more I get into it, the more I dread watching this movie because I just know I’m going to be disappointed, with what I fear the most being the atrociously unfunny humor and Peach’s personality.
And yeah I do sound incredibly hung up on what they’re doing with Peach but then again I’m one of those people who grew up with this franchise and she’s always been a favorite as a kid (there’s a reason why I have Super Paper Mario and Super Princess Peach) so you could say I take the whole thing a bit personally. Though I still intent on seeing it in theaters, so I can at least see it in French.
On a more positive note, at least the Luigi stuff looks really good. The idea of him being the damsel in distress is a fantastic one, especially with the approach of the brothers just discovering this world. Plus getting into this fandom made me realize that my favorite relationship in the whole franchise is the platonic fraternal bond between Mario and Luigi, so I am very happy to see the trailers show Mario being worried for his baby bro. On that note what we’ve seen from Bowser is really great as well. The number of references and little details in the worldbuilding also looks incredibly impressive.
And one last thing about Peach : getting to think more about the different games in the franchise is actually pretty interesting to see the kind of strength she has. And from what I’ve seen of it : (putting under a cut because that rant got too long)
- In every game she’s playable, she has the same abilities as the others. Exceptions being in Mario Bros 2 and Mario 3D World where she’s slower + can float along with any other version where she fights with her parasol. I’ve also seen pics of the Rabbit games with the first game showing her have a gun like everyone else while the second game reverts back to her having a parasol that doubles as a gun (also Luigi apparently has a bow and arrow and I kind of love it)
- In many games in which she’s captured, she still sends items and 1-ups, showing that she manages to sneak out to an extent. Special mention to the first Paper Mario where we see her do as much as she can while staying put, which was also the smartest choice since her not openly fighting back not only gives her the ability to sneak out but also makes it less likely for Bowser to attack her or her people
- There’s also the cutscenes in 3D Land where she uses her parasol against a pile of Goombas (and looks either unhappy or uncertain about it) and even manages to make a run for it, but doesn’t stand a chance against Bowser’s army (seriously, if any asshole ever asks you “why can’t Peach just run away when captured ?”, just show them the pic from 3D World). On that note, this game implies that Bowser only locks her up in a cage when she tries to run away. She’s in a cage in pretty much every single New Mario Bros game, implying she tried to run in each and every single one of those games
- I’ve read that one 12 chapters long colored comic where Bowser turns the Toads into stone and wants to marry her, with Peach running after him and beating the shit out of his kids, but even then she doesn’t do that much fighting. It’s implied her and the toads get captured fairly easily early on; she attacks the koopalings by taking them by surprise and, outside of this attack, basically spends the rest of the chapter running away or throwing shit at the guards. Even later on when she shows up with the bombs, she mostly runs around and threatens to blow the tower up. All this to say, she’s not so badass as much as she is absolutely unhinged in this comic, and tbh I kinda prefer it that way (Peach being all bark and no bite and mostly throwing shit at people as a mean to defend herself amuses me a lot. Also love at the beginning when she jumps out her tower and the Toads literally have to speed up to catch her so she can look cool instead of pathetically fall on her face. This entire comic is fantastic tbh; everyone’s a complete dumbass in it and I love it)
- She seems to have star-related and/or wish-related magic ? Though she can’t fully control it ? Idk apparently in Super Mario RPG she has wishing/star magic as an attack and in the Mario and Luigi series she’s constantly being targeted for magical reasons + can use her powers when Starlow is around. Paper Mario TTYD and Super Paper Mario also need her specifically to wake dark powers (and god is there so much character potential about Peach not knowing how to use her magic on her own all the while having to deal with villains who know exactly how to exploit it ! Like imagine how she must feel by the end of all those games ! Tbh I kinda like to headcanon that those games pretty much broke her self-esteem but then Super Princess Peach happened, which not only builds it back up but also is the point when she starts playing a more active role as a hero, leading to games like 3D World or the Rabbit games)
- The sport games also put her on the same level as everyone else (btw it’s kinda funny to see the people crying about her having pants in one trailer. Like, just look at the BOX ART of Mario Kart 8 you idiots ! The issue with her movie self isn’t the clothes or overall design for that matter, it’s the personality. Same for her having a halberd btw. While it’s a bit weird to see her using something other than her parasol, ultimately her having a different weapon isn’t an issue in on itself. The issue is the implications behind that choice)
Where am I going with this ? Not sure, aside from saying that Peach isn’t the hypercompetent martial arts fighter constantly looking for a fight that we see in the trailers. She’s not that big of a fighter and, when she is, she either has the same abilities as everyone else, uses a parasol, or uses magic.
Overall, I think the best representation of Peach’s relation with fighting has to be that one cutscene in Smash Brawl on Meta Night's ship. In it, she lets Sheik do all the fighting for her with Sheik basically being her bodyguard. Also she doesn’t give a shit about the explosions going around her, just walking around with her parasol and only reacting when the lasers get too close for comfort.
Then when Fox goes on the ship she probably realizes that he’s not a dark force but a person and interrupts the fight with tea, offering friendship (also I love how Sheik seemingly listens to her immediately, showing respect for her).
Then she fights Mr. Game and Watch because there is no other choice (at least I’m assuming she’s playable, I haven’t actually played the game, only seen the cutscenes) and once the fight is done she immediately frees him and tries to befriend him, again showing mercy and kindness and a general dislike for fighting unless she really has to, in which case she can handle herself (also rewatching the cutscene I love when everyone prepares to fight Game and Watch meanwhile Peach is more focused on dusting herself off. I love her).
In this whole cutscene, we get to see Peach be kind, compassionate, forgiving, gentle, caring, delicate, all the while she’s still willing to fight when needed and can handle said fight.
Now, that is not to say that this version of Peach is my favorite. In fact, I do think that Brawl Peach lacks agency, especially compared to other versions like Super Paper Mario where she was allowed to be angry and serious when the situation called for it. Still, I do think that Brawl displays a pretty good blueprint as to what kind of character Peach is. And I especially like that she’s able to fight but mostly chooses not to, and even then her attacks are incredibly girly, which is great ! Being girly and feminine aren’t signs of weakness ! Not being able to physically fight like most people and having to ask for help sometimes isn’t a horrible thing like some medias pretend it is ! Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses !
Although now that I think about it her Super Paper Mario version is also very good, because in her dialogues she does show her kindness, understanding etc but she can also be angry when needed, which is good to see too. Women should be able to display anger without having to be written in a stoic and toxic way like some modern movies seemingly do (thinking of Toy Story 4 with Bo Peep being kind of an asshole, with scenes written as if Woody were 100% in the wrong even when she’s responsible for some issues as well) or, on the other end of the spectrum, without being written as hysteric for showing strong emotions. Also Peach is a princess meaning she grew up spoiled so she should be allowed to throw a tantrum there and there, as a treat. Hell Bowser does so a lot in the RPGs and according to the Mario wiki Daisy also does sometimes.
Wanted to share my thoughts on the Mario movie trailer because it gives me an excuse to procrastinate writing fics since everyone's doing it : So far this movie is 50/50 for me in terms of whether or not I'll want to watch it.
To keep it short (putting it under the cut for spoilers)
PROS :
The animation looks amazing, but then again this is pretty much the standard for movies nowadays. Still, huge props to the artists and animators working on this movie !
Bowser was badass as hell and him being expressive in such a """cartoony""" way works surprisingly well.
Kamek and especially Bowser sound really good. Props to the voice actors for those two !
Toad's voice works. Like he's not 100% raspy but such a voice would probably been very annoying to listen to for an hour and a half. Plus it'd be hard to understand everything he'll say and would possibly be detrimental to the voice actor's throat. So his "slightly raspy" voice works
I was NOT expecting the Mario 64 baby penguins to show up ! I can't believe that out of all the Mario characters out there, those annoying fuckers made it in. Just WOW !
CONS :
The Bowser scene let us know enough of what kind of humor this movie's going to have, and it's not going to be fun 😒
Sorta related to that first point but this movie was made by Illuminations, the studio known for making movies with cheap stories and the dumbest humor because "why bother making good products when people will come see our stuff anyways ?" (note that I haven't watched a single movie from this studio so take this point with a huge grain of salt). So despite the quality shown, the fact that this studio was chosen for this movie is still worrying me (in general Illuminations is a studio that makes me sad. Like, from what I've heard "Despicable me 1" actually had some heart to it and a cute story, meaning they can do good movies ! They just don't want to because it costs less money to hire less writers)
Mario's voice. Just Mario's voice. I have no idea who the fuck Chris Pratt is since I don't know shit about celebrities, but he is not even trying with this voice ! And the fact that he's playing the main character makes it so much more aggravating...
Not a big fan of this idea of "Mario is new to the Mushroom Kingdom", or at least that's the vibe his part of the trailer gave.
I'd also like to point out that my first thoughts after watching the trailer were "I won't go watch this crap". But after watching the french trailer, since this is the version I'll get in theaters, I'm actually considering it. At least this version has a voice actor for Mario who tries to sound like him, and the other voice actors are really good as well (except for Toad who doesn't sound at all like Toad. Though at the same time the voice does fit the character. Like if you take someone who doesn't know shit about Mario and show them this Toad with this voice, they'll find it fitting)
So overall, I'll wait until more info comes out to decide whether or not to watch it in theaters. One thing for sure, I'd much rather see it in french than english. And if I do go see it, it'll likely be with zero expectations so that at least I won't be disappointed.
#Reblog#Flor talks#Video Games#I guess#long post#I might need a Mario tag if I end up posting fandom-related stuff#posting this early because I don't want people to be bothered by my rants#also I'll probably watch the movie next week or even later than that to make sure there are less people in the theater when I do#that being said I can't say I care much about being spoiled in that case#especially given the ridiculous amount of clips of this movie you can find on youtube#also yes I am VERY salty about how much they massacred my girl#though at least I doubt Nintendo are going to use this personality; they're likely going to keep her the way they've always written her#so my main fear is the casual fans starting to view her like she is in the movie instead of who she truly is#(In general I can't help but feel like Nintendo gave Illuminations a lot of freedom with the characters personalities 🤔#likely because this is an american movie first from the looks of it and the humor isn't the same as ours in Japan#so they likely trusted Illuminations on that front)#Super Mario
