that moment where jay talked to chip about how she thinks its all her fault and she should've just gave up her arm and leg. and how chip reassures her....... them 🥺🤲 kind of inspired by that post abt chip and jay i reblogged earlier, but these two talking about their emotions and feelings is so dear to me. just, being human with each other and opening up. gill is great ofc, but i feel like for these two its much easier to talk to each other to feel understood and heard. i love them.....

So y’all know the whole humans are space orcs idea. I want that but with Rocketduo.

Like Niki as a human that got abducted into Space, and of course she escapes her captors because humans are op and just because Niki is simply a badass. So Niki somehow steals a ship and flies it to a safe planet.

And on this planet she makes a life for herself here, and tries to keep hidden from the locals the best she can, but she still managed to be spotted every now and then.

So Niki becomes the trade planet’s Cryptid and ghost story over the course of time. Because it has to be a tall tale. I mean there’s no way one of the most dangerous creatures in the universe is here on a simple trade planet... after all humans are not allowed outside of their own solar system for the safety of everyone.

So upon hearing about this so called “monster” in the forest outside of the large trading post, the very brave and strong Jack Manifold doesn’t believe it. He says that he can take any deathworlder that comes at him. So the people of the local tavern make a bet with him. He must go into the forest and investigate the human. If he comes back alive the bartender said everyone would get drinks on the house.

So the brave Jack Manifold goes off on his own to investigate the creature that is definitely not a human. He only starts to regret his decision when he comes down from his drunken state to find himself lost in the forest.

Now Jack Manifold is a big man, despite what others might say. He does not simply give up on a bet because he became a little lost and a little more sober. So he treads onwards.

When it becomes the late hours of the night and he definitely is sober, he then starts to panic. He didn’t even bring a weapon to defend himself from the regular wildlife on the planet... let alone a monster. Not to mention he is completely lost now.

So as he’s stumbling about in a panicked state he runs right into a hole. One that fell down a short tunnel, and one that had a net and more than a few ropes.

So when Niki comes back to her hideout from foraging to find she did not in fact catch the wild life that has been eating her garden, but she had instead caught a small angry alien man.

He only noticed her when she gasped at the sight of him in the net. Upon the sight of her, his struggling and yelling in the net increased tenfold in a panicked state.

Jack Manifold was no longer the big man he thought he was. He was about to die by the hands of a human. A pretty cool way to go he supposed, but at least not when he was stuck in a net.

Niki didn’t know what to think of the small blue alien she had successfully caught, she honestly thought her next one on one encounter with one would go the other way.

She slowly approached with her hands up, but that seemed to startle the alien more. She reached above and let the net fall to the floor. The alien scrambled back away from her as fast as he could.

Niki was only slightly nervous about him. She could take care of herself.

The alien yelled and screamed at her when ever she tried to approach his spot in the corner where he was curled in on himself. He had grabbed a small stick in his shuffle and was now holding it defensively to his chest.

She simply sat down criss cross a few feet away from him and made calming noises to him. Niki thought as though she was calming a scared child or a frightened dog.

She eventually scooted a bowl of water towards him and only then did he seem to come down an edge.

“Niki” she said and gestured towards herself.

The alien seemed to scrunch up at her words, but then gave a look of curiosity when he seemed to understand them.

“Jack” He said in a shaky voice and strange accent.

“Jack!” Niki repeated and smiled.

This caused Jack’s stick to fly into the air as he let out a screech. The stick, a twig really, came back down and hit Niki softly on the head.

She would have laughed if the small alien now know as Jack wasn’t huntched over on the ground with his hands on his head.

Oh yeah, Niki has forgotten that was a sign of aggression to most aliens.

She whispered a few more calming noises at Jack and even called his name a couple of times. He finally looked up after a minute or two to see Niki holding out a native fruit to him.

He took it from her grip slowly and shuddered as he brushed her fingers. He took a bite of the fruit and after a moment of quiet let out a small, “Niki...” as he looked at her.

Niki nodded her head and smiled without her teeth. “Niki.” She said.

This was going to be a long night.

so the reason I have always like s1 niki is, to first paraphrase off this badass fic quote that I can't find again for the life of me but slapped so hard:

"niki is the woman in a room full of men who think they are alexander hamilton."

s1 niki was the epitome of a "strong female character" without needing to be physically strong. her defining quality is, as I've said, her self assuredness in her cause and her firm belief in community and friendship. where wilbur, her closest friend, has always been chronically unsure of himself and needs outward validation and complete trust, niki has never needed that.

she befriends eret because they're kind, while still acknowledging wilbur's and l'manburg's hurt over the betrayal, all while being completely loyal to l'manburg. she stands up for herself during the pet war and demands an apology from sapnap. most notably, she's one of the only people vocally against schlatt in manburg, and is a complete badass for it. she's the epitome of the "righteous warrior" in that sense,

as cc!wilbur says in his alignment chart: "She follows her own opinions and finds strength in her beliefs. She is very verbal in her values and tends to always lean towards what is right; friendship and the belief of a free nation."

she's never conflicted, never swayed by bitterness or anger. she makes a bakery and feeds her friends, all while also being a pillar of goodness. she builds a giant flag while telling karl all about why she loves l'manburg.

and I think I find that so interesting because, as previously stated, so many characters around her are defined by their ambitions, or more accurately, their fears, while niki just stands for what she loves.

and why does she love l'manburg? canonically, because of wilbur. she loves her country because her friend made it, and because it gives her hope for a free and just place to be. she pours her heart and soul into it and in return wilbur loves her with a quiet fierceness and listens to her when no one else does. is that not the coolest motivation? it's not being defined by a man, as it can easily be, but being defined by love.

love is what gives her strength to carry on through manburg, to yell at schlatt during the festival, to fight to keep fungi's grave intact. she derives her strength from her clear sighted love for the people around her and the desire to help them.

"I'll do anything to help you get your power back. for l'manburg... and for you."

isn't that the coolest character motive??? in a server where people are defined by their political beliefs and what ideologies they support, niki is absent from all that in that she doesn't function like that, hence why she so easily befriends karl or eret. it makes her fundamentally unique and strong in such a cool way, makes her such and interesting contrast to wilbur, and makes her one of my top 5 characters from s1 despite not even being that active.

and don't even get me started on how well this lines up with the original idea of her secret city.

her flaw, naturally, is this strength of emotion tending to blind her, or render her a bit naive, and her soft spoken demeanor leading other people to look down on her (though this isn't her fault).

to see her kind of get "girlbossified" in s2 and 3 makes me sad, because although I could argue that it makes sense for her character, the uniqueness of her original characterization is sorely missed in the story and in her character.

okay so niki is a little different compared to all the others ,, niki would prefer to have a small s/o who he can baby and protect. if you're tall he might feel as though he can't do neither- niki is quite tall himself ,, so having an s/o who's the same height wouldn't bother him that much but i feel like there would be times when he might feel as though he would wish you were smaller because like said niki would love to baby and protect his s/o (not that you cant be if tall). but regardless he will always be there if you feel insecure about your height you're still his s/o and he wants to make sure you're happy :)

so one of my pals in the tommypologist discord (hi guys, by the way) pointed out that a lot, if not all, of the fanart where wilbur is holding a weapon, shows that weapon being an axe. and they wondered where that came from, because wilbur has never really used an axe! wilbur uses crossbows and standard bows exclusively. the one time he grabbed an axe was during the festival, when he ran back to save niki after she had been cornered by schlatt and the manburg army. ever since then, the axe has become, in fanon, a symbol of his strength/his weapon of choice. so I was like "huh! that's interesting! I wonder why he's constantly drawn with an axe even though most people cannot remember the last time he held one in game?"

so I came up with a list of reasons.

axe

- shiny blade

- could be used to chop down a door... or people

- here's johnny type beat

- much more fun to draw poses with

- implies physicality/agility in order to wield it properly

- fun to threaten people with lol

- an implication that he could snap at any moment because he's carrying an axe around

- sexyman energy

crossbow

- literally just a less sleek gun

- harder to draw

- long range = weak (traditionally every high fanstasy movie has had women protags be bowmasters)

- less fun to threaten someone with

- takes time to kill people with

- cowards option

and this is all very well and good, people like their badass villains and aesthetically pleasing fanart, but it made me think about wilbur's role in the story and why the crossbow vs axe preference in fanon is interesting. because an axe, like I said above, implies strength, physicality, and brutality. it's a threatening weapon. you can hold it to someone's throat, raise it above someone's head, hack and slash with the blade, inflict blunt force trauma with the handle. its the weapon of a fighter. its the weapon of someone who fights and intends to make your death hurt. it's the perfect weapon for the type of villain the fandom makes wilbur out to be- violent, constantly on edge, vengeful, and dangerous. but it doesn't reflect how wilbur is in canon. because here's the thing about axes. theyre for offense and defense. if your enemy isn't dead before they can reach you as long as you have the strength to lift that axe and a will to live, there's a chance that you will make it out of there alive. and wilbur... had neither of those. wilbur canonically starved himself and deprived himself of sleep. physically, he was at his weakest in pogtopia. there is no way he could have properly wielded an axe in universe. and even if he could, he had no will to live.

so here's the thing about crossbows: if you haven't killed your enemy by the time they reach you, there's no way to defend yourself. your death is almost guaranteed.

and given wilburs propensity for not wearing armor, his mindset around blowing up lmanburg and dying with it, and his constant posthumous statements that the world is better without him, it makes his use of the crossbow make a lot more canonical sense. not only is it the easiest weapon for him to use given his canonical lack of strength and poor health, but also it's a weapon that made it incredibly easy for him to be killed. hell, in the final battle between pogtopia and manburg, he had a sword on him the entire time and didn't use it once. well. unless you count it being used on him. all of this really just going to show how much wilbur did not want to survive the destruction of l'manburg. how much he wanted his book to close. because l'manburg was his story, and the button chekhov's gun, and if you add something to a story and hype it up a lot it has to be used by the end. now chekhov's gun has fired through his chest and the hand to pull the trigger was his own. in the end, he never needed an enemy to reach him in order to die.

besides, a bolt through the heart is a far more merciful end than death by a thousand cuts.

Here I give you my fuckin Take on why Tommy is one of the best written characters out there and can easily compete with best-selling Novels like Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. I’m sick of a trashing that doesn’t even make sense. So buckle up. Here I will tell you why Tommy has one of the best written characters in history of Books and Movies. Remember, I write this all in my perspective and take many examples of other character books as well

Before this all starts, I will also talk about the main characters of some series, since Tommy has the reputation of being a “main” character.

When I look at the books I’ve read, I see a large range of characters and there way of making the story interesting.

Now, to establish a good character, we need key points of motivations, to make them relatable and bla bla blub:

Mary Sue/Gary Stu:

Those are characters who are flawless, have missing chunks of personality and mostly one way written. They are easy to achieve when you are trying to make your character look badass.

Imagine a tree. You plant something small and soon you have something giant with many branches, roots and connections. You have the seed you plant and with caring and care you let it grow. Then you have somewhat a sapling. The tree grows with the care and soon you have a tree with many branches.

Tommy’s personality is very brash and out of control = He’s barely containable in fights, going off to do his own risky plans and starting two or so fights. He can’t forgive a person very easily like Eret, who took it a long time to get forgiveness and Techno, as he shot Tubbo at the Festival. He makes decision that also cost his life like the duel because he hates losing

Tommy can be very lazy, giving the thought he wouldn’t have to do the hard work = Shown when he tries to steal the hearts of seas from Eret or potions from Techno, bargain with “drugs” by Puffy and Ponk or gives other people the work he doesn’t want to do like he did with getting cobblestone

Like a child, he often clings to close people and annoys others for attention = His desperate attempts to have company or someone praising him shows, when he tries to get Philza’s approval (or a pat on the back), constantly looking out, if Tubbo’s either okay or where his is,

He doesn’t like to wait or doing things in the long run = He constantly asks when something is finished, when they could go or in his exile, when he was allowed to go back to L’Manburg

He doesn’t show often his cooled down, scared and vulnerable side = He often overshadows his trauma with a facade of jokes and bad hidden hurt he brings out. When he talks about something bad, he’s clearly confused, not really knowing on how to understand it. Also he runs away from things he can’t control a panic attack like visiting the final control room or looking away from the holes in Logstedshire

He runs without head into a battle so often as possible = Only when they had their final showdown for the disc, Tommy was seen preparing in story, thinking it would be his last fight

Passionate about dear projects of his = You can see Tommy talking about his discs or see an video where he would spent days getting different discs. Those things are very known to be rare things, so for Tommy to possess it gives him somewhat power. L’Manburg was the same passion, even a bit more, as you can see he was ready to give up his most prized disk. The last and in the moment is his hotel

Bravery like no one makes him as one of the dangerous person on peoples hitlist = He stands up for others. He stood up to L’Manburg. He in the end didn’t care that he lost a life. When he sees a foe, he won’t stand down and submit, he will fight against the oppression and tell them that in the face. During the mission to get a visa, he stood against Schlatt, even if they were clearly in the loose of people and disadvantage. Or getting an apology of Sapnap for killing Niki’s fox. Fighting against 5 people with just one ally while the other is a hostage.

His leadership = There are not many people who can take it up, but Tommy is an exception. He can coordinate people with his loud voice and somewhat thought plans. He is charismatic, even if he’s not so good at it like Wilbur, he still can motivate people to fight for themselves or others. He’s seen to lead others into battle and taking in the fighting part a leading role

Unselfish. That’s one of the most arguable things about Tommy`s character = You can´t look at a kid and say he is selfish because he wants to get something dearly back. Especially Tommy, after he gave the things up, he cared about. But if something is happening again, he will lay it down to do the other thing. As seen by the egg, he had a hard time thinking what to do. He, in a long time, didn’t want to be catalyst for something to happen. Not when he in the moment could have stopped it. So doing this act for himself ones, was a good decisions, since they clearly weren’t ready for war

Part of the Story

Outside of the story:

Let’s all just get something “straight”. What would Dream SMP without Tommyinnit. Now. Don’t get me wrong. All the creators on the SMP are amazing. They are all wonderful and deserve every bit of Attention and fame they get. But just imagine.

We heard from Tubbo, he was the one, who got him into the SMP. Schlatt and Wilbur came because of a “visit”. Quackity was added because TOMMY said he was bored. And from that, we got somewhat of a tree system. As Tommy was invited and drawn into conflict by Sapnap (shoutout to best boy!), he got more people.

He also has the highest viewership and kind of shortest streams, since he is doing college next to Youtube and Streaming. He can’t give up his high viewers since all of those 200.000 (average) – closing 650.000 People (doing something like a big lore stream in prison or the disc final), choose to watch him.

Also a reminder again, Tommy has his storyline as does everyone else. When we saw Tommy and Techno during the partner up arc doing something with the dogs, they saw the start of the red vines arc BUT said they were on the wrong storyline. Tommy was asked by the eggpire writers if he wanted to be a part of the story and he said yes. Why do you think he nearly says nothing about the egg. He leaves it to the writers. Also, it was said by one of Wilbur’s Character descriptions, that Tommy was okay with others doing something with his character, while Techno was more reluctant with his.

Let me say it again, every creator is awesome and individual! Nobody should be compared to others. But with Tommy coming to the Dream SMP, there really was a change in the game.

Inside of the story:

Now, with Sapnap, Alyssa, Ponk and Tommy in the first ever big conflict its shown the importance. People assume Tommy is one of the conflict bringers, even though he was dragged in it by having something stolen by Sapnap and then forced to fight with him, to get it back.

The Consequences he’s got where having his discs get stolen. This is what Tommy’s biggest character motivation was the first two seasons. Those discs are known on the server and when you think about gifting something to C!Tommy, it would be a disc.

Techno = Disc Wait

HBomb = Disc Pigstep, Wait

Tubbo = Stal

LazarBeam = Far

Tommy is a openminded boy who longs for funny little adventures and pranks, since he is just a young person. It’s in his nature.

So why, when he does something, are people looking on him?

Because the things he was and is a part of some of the biggest events. And him being so loud and brave and rash lets him stand out. If you look at the old (hah) Revolution of L’Manburg, who can you hear talking the most and the loudest? Tommy and Dream. They were the most outgoing about the war with Sapnap, Tubbo and Wilbur following. Fundy was more quieter (thankfully he has so much more lore now).

Tommy’s character is known to fall or be dragged head first in almost every conflict. He has connections to who? Mostly everybody. So of course he’s connected big parts to the stories.

Okay. Every “main” character or character with huge importance to the story has some kind of power. Looking at Dream, who is a “demigod” or Ranboo who I don’t even have to talk about. So what about Tommy?

Well. He doesn’t have any. Tommyinnit is one of the people, we get to have as an “human” character

Antfrost, Technoblade, Ranboo, Fundy = Hybrids

Dream = Something something green blob

Tommy has, as we know of the moment, a not confirmed power. The assumptions of the egg are not clear, since we haven’t seen those interact in a while. All we know is, Tommy didn’t get hurt, destroying a part and not feeling anything, while being in contact. That in canon considered.

Flaws

As talked before in personality and also in an assumption, we see the pattern of loyalty and brashness repeating.

Flaws are the most important parts of a character. It shows the struggle of their adventure and learning how to live with it.

Percy Jackson learned loyalty is nothing, if you don’t have someone to project it on.

Harry Potter and Luke Skywalker learned being a hot head didn’t really bring him forward and it’s important to have a plan

Frodo Beutlin learned that it is okay taking care of yourself and what attachment means

Anakin Skywalker learned fear is controllable and it shouldn’t be a remaining part of your life

Tommy learned over the time that his rashness could hurt others, loyalty couldn’t come back to him like he gave it out and he learns even more in the coming future.

Relationships

Tommy’s relationships is a mess of strings. Some are badly knotted and some are very clear.

A characters connections is an important part for the character himself.

Relationships in life are

·      Lover(-figure)

·      Complicated family(-figure)

·      Complicated friend (-figure)

Relationships are a part of everyone’s life. Not with everybody is a good relationship holdable. Either it’s because their hurting each other or another person. People change and that’s a part of life.

Tommy realized, even tho it hurt, that Techno wasn’t good for his mental state and health. It went against everything Tommy ever stood for.

And Tommy and Tubbo’s relationship wasn’t really that broken. It’s normal for friends to fight. Normal for them hit their heads in. Tommy and Tubbo were surrounded with people who were, at the time, a terrible addition to their mental life.

The Dream SMP doesn’t talk it out, hell the talking club was just destroyed because they preferred fists over words. So why do you think everything is going out with a fight, if it’s all they learned.

Priced Possessions

Every character has to something a connection.

Might it be Percy Jackson and his sword

Might it be Harry with his glasses, broomstick and wand

Frodo and his stupid ring

For Tommy we all know it’s his ender chest inside and secret chest. He keeps many belongings in his chests and always has been one for those things. He kept flowers, compasses, Friendship signs and most importantly, his discs.

The care for something of items are important. Might it be a teddy, old photo or jewelry. People get protective over it, because it holds sentimental value to the person.

If you ask me, to let go of my teddy bear, I will show you my middle finger. Probably beat you up too.

You can’t just throw out your memories into a fire or pit of lava. This is just showing you never had a care and everything you had a memory with it before would have been gone.

History/Backstory

We don’t have much here, but still something to work with.

A Hero doesn’t have an easy live. And it’s an said thing that every Hero needs an origin Story.

Tommy, said not really anything about his past.

All we know is that Tommy didn’t have anyone, presumably an Orphan, he knew the sleepy bois already a long time ago and he never learned on how to ride a bike, saying he never really had a family.

Signs that he didn’t even leave half a good life are:

·      his knowledge on stealing and preferring this over working for it

·      Liking to live in weird spaces like carved out holes in sides of hills (his hobbit hole or the basement by Techno) or living in his tent over a hole house

·      His liking of cobblestone and dirt, which are easy gettable blocks

·      Holding his goodies and friends close to him

·      Craving for attention or contact in general

And now for the part with the dream SMP.

We saw how it changed him. We saw his trauma and all the bad things that happened to him.

And that’s why we say his actions came from those past experiences and things. We are NOT excusing them, but showing. Past trauma CHANGES a person. It brings experience and a heavy amount of pain and anger. ESPECIALLY at a young age, you will change due to your experience in life. You will grow worried and anxious. Tommy did that. He grew more anxious, angry, scared and also experienced.

Stop saying trauma doesn’t explain it. Yes. It does. His lashing out came from his past and negative experience. Imagine growing up in a world where this is the norm. War and banishing. As well as death. Tommy has reasons why he is acting and does stuff.

Understand it. You don’t have to forgive him or anything. But understand it.

The moral and the story the character tells us

When we see Tommy, we see a boy who went nearly through it all. Mental/Physical Abuse, Abandonment, War, Suicidal thoughts, betrayal, Death, etc…

He doesn’t show forgiveness for his abuser. Still has signs, that he fights with the past abuse, but he tells us a story of learning from past mistakes, that even in the darkest hours, there’s a way out. Things will, can and be ugly and those are dark hours, but in no way should you think that it’s over. Life is more than one way and can always turn into a new direction.

Life takes something old away from you. Life gives you something new. You lose someone, you find someone new. Friends can turn into enemies. Enemies can turn into friends. You can meet the weirdest people. You can meet the most amazing people. You can be alone and in the next second, you’re not. You will often lose, but you also can win if you give everything.

Life can be weird and that’s okay.

My Fazit (that’s german)

The thing is, he is very real for many viewers such as myself. He acts like how many teenagers his age reacts.

He doesn’t be “baby”, because he shows the “ugly” sides of trauma. He shows that attachments are good and you shouldn’t forgive your abuser. In no way. He shows that acting out and lashing out are two things that happen, when you have been in wars for many times and nearly just know that.

He has many flaws and mistakes but those make him even more real. He is showing how he is growing.

As a person, friend, (pseudo-)family.

He is real to many of the viewer since he doesn’t have any powers that are existing in our world to solve their problems. He knows that nobody would have helped him and Tubbo against Dream if he didn’t pay others.

Also that you can’t be friends with everyone and that it’s okay that not everybody likes you.

Tommy´s character is the most human and realistic character in a way of how we would react. We are humans who are lashing out and who are having ugly sides.

And also please stop saying that, since I really can relate to Tommy and I don’t want to be feeling like a “bad-written Character”…

i'll give some hcs for each

Avian Niki

niki is either a crow hybrid or an angel hybrid. on one hand crow niki is funny to me on the other hand badass angel

her feathers, ironically, stay white during her 'villain' arc because yaknow symbolism

when she was going out with puffy, she'd let puffy preen them

because she was the only other winged hybrid, quackity trusted her to preen his own wings

in return he preened hers while she was in jail

she used to fly with puffy because love <3

during her isolation arc, she takes out feathers as an unhealthy coping mechanism, reasoning to herself that there's no need to preen if she doesn't have any feathers left (yes it's morbid)

eventually tho she just. doesnt even wear clothes for her wings

she just hides them underneath, which is of course VERY uncomfortable

they get worse and worse and ache more and more and she wants to fly so badly but she can't unless she preens them and she can't because she just can't!

when she joins the syndicate, the first thing phil says during their second meeting is: "hey niki didn't you have wings? what happened to them?"

his voice is tinged with sympathy; he knows what it's like to not be able to fly

she freezes, just stops moving, then starts to cry

phil is worried he's done something wrong, but then she reveals that she's kept her wings hidden under wil's coat and cloak all that time (note the symbolism)

he immediately is like "what the FUCK" when he sees them because there are feathers falling when it's not even shedding season yet?? also there are a few in places they shouldn't be at all? there are some fucking missing?????

long story short it takes multiple hours to get them back in place

niki passes out during it because it's been so long since she hasn't been in constant pain

when she wakes up, phil insists on keeping her there to preen her wings

also the syndicate has a long discussion about what happened and they promise each other and themselves to help her get better

Lion Hybrid Niki

she purrs louder than ranboo which is SAYING something

she loves the scritchy scratches behind the ears. like REALLY loves 'em. she'll just- once you give her scritches she just. surrenders and leans into it. her purring sounds like a fucking jet plane when she gets the scritchies

she can roar, she only uses it to intimidate people tho

her self-worth is just. deeper than bedrock. she has no self-worth

she and puffy are working on it but she still... needs help

sometimes she gets phantom pain from her declawed fingers. she's found out it hurts less when she massages it, but she can't actually reach it, so she asks puffy to do it, and puffy can't help but feel guilty each time she sees the stumps

also niki hates getting her nails trimmed. like HATES it. even if she doesn't want them growing as long as they did before, the idea of something sharp near her fingers after what happened just makes her blanch

eventually tho she does have to do it

she hugs puffy while ant cuts her nails, and puffy whispers sweet, reassuring comments to her.

like

"you're doing so good. i'm so proud of you" and "we're almost there. you okay? we're gonna get through this."

sometimes tho niki just.. can't handle it. but she doesn't want to disappoint puffy either so she tries to just get through it anyways.

puffy notices her discomfort and asks her if she wants to stop. niki hesitates before nodding.

"niki, you being comfortable is so much more important than this. we can do it tomorrow, okay?"

Enderman Hybrid Niki

makes littol enderman noises. sometimes when she's stressed, sometimes just idly, sometimes when she's happy!

she has a tail because how can i not give her one

also she has pawsies and hands like magpiebur by @/nightferns (BECAUSE I LOVE THE WAY THEY DRAW WILBUR'S PAWWWS)

can withstand water a little better than ranboo, being more human than him

it still burns though

she just has higher pain tolerance lul

also can touch snow unlike ranboo because she's half human, half enderman

her ears and tail twitch whenever she's anxious

didn't really like eye contact, and the l'manbergians respected that (esp eret who didnt like people staring at their eyes either) until schlatt came along and basically forced it, so she kinda forced herself to do it from then on

unlike ranboo however, she doesnt go into enderwalk. she actually hasn't got an enderwalk because ranboo got it from nervous habit and it 'evolved' from there (my hc anyway), she instead literally gets hurt

like it hurts her to make eye contact

ranboo sees that she makes eye contact despite being an enderman hybrid and is like: "...HOW???"

she's just like "oh i force myself to do it lul. cause everyone expects me to anyways. it hurts after a while but its fine"

he just goes completely silent after that, then tells phil and techno at the syndicate meeting (while niki is admiring steve) not to hold eye contact w/niki because it hurts her

techno: "HEHH??? she seemed fine when i visited her!!" ranboo: "yeah she's been hiding it this whole time because society expects her to do it." techno, an adhd fella: "..phil where are the adoption papers-"

niki's confused by the end. why did nobody look at her? why did nobody maintain eye contact with her??? did they not like her?

but at the end phil explains that they thought that because she was an enderman hybrid she wouldn't like it (they're lying to not throw ranboo under the bus)

niki just stares, then starts to cry because holy Shit they are so nice

"nIKI NO YOU'RE BURNING-"

used to bite her tail as a way of self-harm. techno was VERY concerned when he saw the bite marks, but niki just lied and said that it was a dog attack

he knows for a fact it wasn't a dog because he's been bitten and his furniture has bites and it didnt look like that

more like that One Time when Ranboo bit him while he was in his enderwalk state

cue him connecting the dots and being like "...WAIT"

niki also really likes blocks. like we all know her city is weird in some parts because it's built with different blocks, signifying niki's jumbled up mind while planning to kill tommy. but in the enderman hybrid niki hc, its also partly because blocks feel nice and she wanted to feel different ones

her tail curls around the legs of people she likes. so far, it's gone around: wilbur, tommy n tubbo (those two specifically during pogtopia), fundy, eret, puffy and the rest of the syndicate

whenever puffy made her flustered she'd blush either green or pink. no inbetween. puffy was very confused and thought niki was disgusted by her at first and was all :(( before niki explained her wack biology

I wanna talk about this argument in techno-apologist discourse, because while i haven't seen it a lot, I have seen it expressed by multiple different people in a relatively short amount of time. which says to me that it's an idea that's currently catching on.

the original prevailing argument was that doomsday wasn't that bad (or was even actively Good) because no one died, which of course is a rather unfortunate argument to the person who died. for well over half a year this was (and mostly still is) the argument.

that said, some people have taken jack's death into account and instead of reconsidering how they feel (or at least talk) about doomsday, they've decided to justify it by insisting that it's Jack's fault that he died. by stripping agency Away from techno or even outright implying that he was being merciful somehow and that jack was the aggressor.

lets take this by points here

1: technoblade has agency. regardless of the context, regardless of the result, regardless of his intent, he Chose to accept the duel and he Chose to kill jack in that duel. to argue that jack's death is his own fault is to treat technoblade like he Isn't a person, like he Doesn't have agency, like what he did was Inevitable and not a choice that he made.

2: there Is context and it makes this argument plainly ridiculous.

2b: this is a literal war in which technoblade was physically fighting literally the entirety of l'manberg and its allies.

anyone could've died for real at any moment, people have lost their canon lives in the middle of battles before, Jack lost one of his canon lives in the middle of a battle before. you don't shoot people, blow them up, send withers at them, and send attack dogs on them unless you're prepared for the reality that they could die. you don't accept a duel with someone you Know is weaker than you unless you're prepared for the reality that he might die.

it is Only by pure coincidence that jack was the only person that lost a canon life, it is only by pure coincidence that jack was the only character that lost their Final life (tubbo and tommy were both down to one, and techno had been giving them special attention). to downplay this fact is ridiculous.

2c: L'manberg was jack's Home, which technoblade had destroyed. yes manifoldland was his, but jack was there fighting for a Reason. he wasn't just challenging technoblade for kicks, he wasn't risking his own life for fun. jack had cared deeply about l'manberg and the people in it, and he was devastated by it falling apart. there's a Reason why he started a villain arc immediately after this that he hasn't recovered from.

jack, tubbo, and niki were all close friends in early l'manberg. jack joined immediately after the revolution, and when he did they streamed literally every day together for a while there. jack's arc is about feeling abandoned and about feeling like a background character. he desperately misses old friendships and old happiness that he doesn't think he can ever get back, but he Also desperately wants to be someone that matters.

jack fought for l'manberg, for those happy memories and the people he still cared about, until the very end. him choosing to take a final stand against techno and paying the price for it isn't outweighed by the existence of manifoldland, and judging that action outside of the emotions involved with the conflict is ridiculous.

blaming jack for his own death because he chose to fight technoblade when it was literally the middle of a war in which everyone there was choosing to fight technoblade and technoblade was choosing to fight them is just. Bizarre. you may as well say that no one technoblade kills should ever count against him because they knew what they were getting themselves into when they chose to be killed by technoblade.

It’s so weird how often in fanfiction Wilbur is a rather good fighter. Specifically it’s weird when he’s a better fighter than Tommy since that’s just... not the case. 

Like, I get why it’s often made that way. Because Wilbur is older and he has the whole “talented older brother” thing going on, while Tommy has more of the “underdog” vibe, which is fair enough, but at times it’s just ridiculous. Like, Wilbur is decent with a bow. No doubt long distance he can hold his own. But he’s not a good close combat fighter. Heck! The man never even wore armour for the majority of the story! It’s very very obvious that close combat is NOT one of his strong suits. 

His main strength has always been charisma. There is a reason why he went the whole “words over weapons” route. Because in a world where something like that never holds up someone like Wilbur can hardly ever win. 

That said, I’m fairly sure that everyone who worked under him during the revolution war was a better fighter than him (though I don’t know about how good Eret is, so don’t quote me on this one), but none of them were ever amazing either. They all needed that sort of mentality to thrive, it’s one of the things that brought them together, the fact that they were all underdogs in a way and needed to stick together to be able to stand up to someone like Sapnap. Having any one of them be this absurdly strong fighter just feels weird. 

Which, aside from Wilbur, is something I mostly see happen with Niki and Tubbo. I quite like Niki, but she’s not a strong fighter. She has strong character moments, but if you actually pay attention to them she’s never a badass because she can carry out a 4 v 1 like Techno, her badass moments are like her standing up to Schlatt during the festival. Emotional strenght and courage are her strong suits, not her combat prowess. 

It’s similar for Tubbo. While he’s not as bad as the other two and he has had cool battle moments (I mean, him and Tommy together did best Dream) his main strength remains his intelligence. Tubbo is fricking smart, he had the brains to invent nukes, he managed his job as a spy quite well, he managed being president. He’s not as amazing as, like, Sam with redstone of course, but he can hold his own in that department as well. He is a logical thinker which can sometimes result in him feeling more detached and cold in certain situations, but it’s also a big strength of his. 

On the contrary I kinda feel like people often make Tommy out to be a bit too much of a wimp. Like, you all know I’m an Inniter first and a human second, and he does have some clever moments of course, but he’s not really the brain of the situation in any situation. He makes a good general because he’s good at maintaining the morale high, but he’s not a leader per se because he WILL just fumble with his words even in situations where he’s not under pressure. He’s often not good at communicating, and he’s way too hot-heated (which has lead to actual problems for him in instances like the electoral debates). That said he is a pretty decent fighter. He is in no way on Techno or Dream’s level and not even on Sapnap’s or Punz’s level, but he’s definitely pretty strong himself. Yes, his perseverance is definitely his strongest suit, but that’s not the ONLY thing he has going for him, and often even that is taken from him in his fanon representation.

Okay you know what? Let’s go and actually expand on that Shrek au with Option B because all I talked about was the idea. Now I’m going to go with the characters and shit.

Right. So for one, Techno is full pigliin here and is absolutely terrifying. Both because of how he looks and because of his past, where he literally decimated his enemies quickly and in the most terrifying manner possible. Blood for the Blood God is what he said while he was in battle.

Nowadays though, he’s planting potatoes and taking Carl out for a ride at times. Alone. With no one around. And with everyone running away from him. And no company for the past few years.

Quackity and Wilbur is a talking duck, and a talking donkey respectively and are traveling bards. Whether they are hybrids or full animals is up to you. They both are shitpost energy though and 100% annoy Techno nonstop and he is tempted to have the duck for dinner and have the donkey as money compensation.

Quackity is scared of Techno but still provokes him, Wilbur is not and goes and also provokes him. It’s like having two younger siblings to be honest and it’s hilarious.

Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo are all sons of King Philza and Queen Kristin from the Antarctic Empire. In this au Mumza and Philza are both badasses and managed to go and get a whole kingdom and we love them for it.

Now those three are up at a castle waiting for their true love. Which is bullshit in their opinion. What the fuck. True Love’s Kiss? Boring.

Purpled is a mercenary, albeit young but that’s what happens when your brother goes missing two years before but he’s good at his job and overall stoic and sarcastic. Then he gets implemented into the found family and now if anyone touches them he will kill everyone in this kingdom and then himself.

Niki, Jack, Sapnap, George, and Eret are all the Fairy Tale guys who are good friends with Techno and the others and are amazing. We love them. Also, Eret may not be official king but she may be one anyways, she slays in those clothes and she has good leadership.

Puffy, Sam, Ponk (before fourth movie plot), Foolish, Slime, and Karl are all apart the Antarctic Empire council and are overall good dudes. We love them here. We love them a lot.

Anyways that’s all I have on characters, might make Fundy both the baby and Prince Arther because Foxes age faster and stuff like that but who knows.

Jurassic World AU.

Phil’s an ethologist and a falconer who was placed in charge of the care and training of a group of Velociraptors, consisting of Friend, Carl, Clementine, and Henry. 

He raises them alongside his own kids, Techno, Wilbur, and Tommy. Which, um, comes with it’s ups and downs. The ups? The velociraptors didn’t think his kids were snacks. But they do now think they’re marginally more useless velociraptors and treat them as such.

It’s kind of cute, honestly. Friend’s always bothering Wilbur to eat more, and actively hunts for him. Carl hunts with Techno, even if he thinks he’s kind of pathetic at it, he still does it. And Henry and Clementine are always ready to murder someone for Tommy if they make any wrong move towards the youngest.

Even after the group is moved to Jurassic World, they still visit constantly. It’s clear to anyone that they’re close.

Niki is operations manager of Jurassic World, who’s cousins, Fundy and Tubbo, have recently been sent to stay with them for a bit. 

All the raptors survive, because I said so. 

Things go sideways when Indominus breaks out, but everyone’s their own brand of badass, so they make it out alright, if not more traumatized than they came.

Phil adopts Niki, Fundy, and Tubbo into the family after the whole thing, and they bond over the experience.

In Fallen Kingdom, Ranboo is the clone. He’s a clone of Foolish, who was Puffy’s son, who she lost in Jurassic Park, when he led the T-rex on a chase away from his friend-who just happened to be Niki’s older brother, Eret, who now has the role of Malcolm. Dream, her other son, has the role of Mills.

Puffy technically has Lockwood’s role, but it’s shared with the now deceased Captain Sparklez. She survives the film, also because I said so.

Out of all the random little details from crappy smut fics, I did not expect Oncat to be from the books, lol.

Mal actually has a supernatural tracking ability. Like, literally, they put a bug into the pouch with gunpowder so he could make the shot. I guess this was kinda said before, but never this directly, right?

Alina’s merzost-skyping Sasha now, yay.

Why is there so few Tidemakers in the books? Waterbenders are useful. I want more waterbenders.

I am not a Zoyalina person, but like... gay? Please? Rivals to grudging allies to friends to lovers, 300k slowburn? Sounds more fun than whatever Mala dn Alina have going on, lol.

(I’m starting to realize I’m not as much a Darklina person as I am anti-Malina person, lol. Like, literally everyone has a more interesting dynamic with Alina than tracker boy over there. Malina is at best boring AF and at worst toxic, codependent and emotionally abusive, while also being boring AF at the same time. It has literally nothing going for it except God herself liking it).

I can see why Nadia is gay in the show. The book version of her definitelly has a crush on Tamar. Homegirl likes a woman, who can murder her with the flick of her wrist and honestly? Same.

Alina has some big “coming out of lockdown after a year” energy atm.

The cat is one of the most realistic characters in this thing, lol.

And since Tamar is also heavily queercoded, our lovely ladies make off into the night, flirting. Or maybe not. Let me dream, though.

At least Blade Boy is aware that his tattoo is stupid. To quote someone ranting about him on tumblr: He’s embracing his identity as a tool.

How does Mal sound? Is she gonna say the Blade boy sounds like her dad? I mean, I know voices are partially genetic, but it has been tens of generations between them, probably.

So, we’re finally taking Genya’s trauma seriously after all this time? Good. Better late than never, I guess.

I wish that regicide was already finished and I’m pretty sure that Genya does, too. Stop defending the fucking king, narrative.

What emotion is this supposed to give me? Cause all I feel is kinda sad.

Wait. But actually telling the entire story from Tubbo's pov would be so interesting?? Some events would have to be told in like a 'In the room where it happened' kind of fashion, where both the audience and Tubbo doesn't know what's going on until the very end, and a lot of the build up to said events would only be revealed after.

We'd get to watch an entire episode of Tubbo setting up the Festival. Only for it to end with him getting executed. Like the episode would end in a flash of color, then it would go to a black screen and two hearts on a screen would slowly tick to two. And then the credits roll. (Next episode would pick up the second after he was executed)

It'd be so fascinating to watch how he views Wilbur, because we'd miss a bit more of Pogtopia, and simply see a lot more of the Manburg administration (and hopefully Niki, Eret, and Fundy's arcs)

Tubbo's a total badass, and that would get played up a lot more.

Also I wonder what that would do to the whole Butcher Army storyline?? Would the Butcher Army be narratively framed as the good guys or at least less of the bad guys??? It's so fun to think about.

Different Ideas for the Exile Arc because now I have brainrot:

-The whole story up til then has been from Tubbo's point of view. Barely any other pov if any at all. But then one episode it just starts with someone asking Tubbo how he thinks Tommy is doing. And he says something like "I'm sure he's fine" AND THEN BOOM! Dramatic cut to it raining at Logstedshire and Tommy looking miserable. And then it tells exile as well as Tubbo's storyline.

-Exile doesn't get told completely, but Tubbo gets bad dreams about it sometimes. It shows flashes of Logstedshire (dramatic snapshots of Tommy looking miserable) and one of the reasons he decides to go and see Tommy is because he has a dream about him on the tower.

-Exile isn't shown until after the disk confrontation. After they lock up Dream, and season 2 ends the first episode of season 3 is just called 'Exile'. And it's Tommy telling Tubbo everything that happened to him in exile. This specific episode shows all of Tommy's time in exile, and even potentially his time with Techno. (ofc Tommy would actually have to tell Tubbo everything about exile for this to work...)

-Exile is never shown. It's mentioned in hints and subtle references. But it is never shown. Then after the entire series is done airing, they release a limited series about exile.

-Never shown in the slightest. No mention about it from the show runners. People are left to draw their own conclusions.

Also the incredible implications of the story being told from the perspective of a pawn. IT'S JUST SO COOL!

Niki Blethers: Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans (SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT!)

Okay, um, how ‘bout we start with the good stuff first and then move into the Real Discussion.

Animation? Gorgeous. Even watching the movie on a janky iPad screen, I was blown away by the visuals.

Voice Acting: *chef’s kiss* I think this is easily Emile Hirsch’s best performance as Jim. And oh land, Colin O’Donoghue once again nails Douxie’s desperation, exhaustion, and sorrow. Give everybody an Oscar here, they deserve it.

Some of the emotional beats hit so hard. I can’t say all of them, unfortunately, but I was definitely in tears in a couple of places.

Dang, this movie did not screw around. It was extremely hard to watch the Arcane Order torturing Douxie and Nari, Nomura’s death, Jim breaking pretty much all of his ribs…I know whump fans are gonna have a good time with this.

Douxie body swapping with Nari was both viscerally uncomfortable and also made my heart bleed because oh my gosh Douxie you selfless king, c’mere and let me hold you, you brilliant boy. Also @sergeantsporks, how in the blue blazes did you predict that was coming.

Really great to see Barbara in the thick of things. I guess she and Strickler adopted out all the Darklands babies. I’m also so glad that Jim’s father wasn’t some important, mysterious person who left for a noble cause. The guy is just a deadbeat, and that’s all there is to it. It really helps build up the theme of Jim’s arc—that anyone, even the most unlikely people, can move past such challenges and be a hero.

The moments between Jim and his mom were wonderful. Very heartwarming.

DOUXIE BREAKING THROUGH BELLROC’S CONTROL OVER NARI WAS JUST 👌👌👌 LITERALLY EVERYTHING I WANTED FROM THAT SCENE.

MAGICAL SIBLINGS HUG AAAAAAHHHHHH!!! LOOK HOW RELIEVED HE IS, LOOK AT HOW MUCH HE LOVES HER, YA GIRL NIKI TOTALLY CALLED THEIR DYNAMIC!

Badass Nari with the Earth Titan lives in my brain rent-free now.

As much as I hated Nari’s death, I have to admit that Douxie’s response to it was appropriately heart-wrenching. The way he kept desperately calling her name, only to gasp it out once more when he realized she was gone—that was some good angst right there.

I still hate it, tho. 🙂

CHILDREN OF THE SUN, YEEEEEEAH!!! GET ‘EM, JIM!

Jim and Toby being both the beginning and the end for the series is so heartwarming. Honestly lost it over Toby’s death sequence and the way Jim was clinging to him and sobbing.

Okay, time to address the many elephants in the room:

M!Preg Steve should not have happened. Period. That wasn’t funny, that was disgusting, and honestly kind of insulting to the very real challenge of bearing children and giving birth. I’m sorry Dreamworks, but that is a hard no for me.

There were a handful of scenes where characters didn’t feel fully present, emotionally. Like, when the team realizes that Douxie is in the Order’s clutches….no one seems very worried? Like, guys, I know there’s a lot going on right now, but they literally killed him the last time he meddled in their affairs, why is nobody expressing any concern here? And when Douxie realizes he’s never going to see Archie again, he just kind of….shrugs it off? Bro, Archie is your Familiar, he practically raised you, and has been your one constant for nearly 1000 years, don’t you at least want to shed a tear or something? This isn’t anything major, but it was enough to break immersion for me in a few places. Just….why aren’t you guys emoting like you usually do?

I especially noticed this with Nari. She always seemed…really disconnected from everyone, which felt odd, because in Wizards, she very clearly cared about the others, and expressed genuine sorrow over Jim’s suffering and Merlin’s death. But here she seemed kind of….ditzy and out-of-it. Girl, why don’t you just tell Jim what to do. Use your words, I know you have them.

The ending. Oh. My. Gosh, that ending.

Let me make one thing clear here: I’m not averse to bittersweet endings. One of my favorite movies of all time is How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. What I hate is the fact that this movie basically retconned the entire series.

These characters who we have loved and followed over the last few years, related to their struggles, took comfort from their triumphs—all of that is gone now, in terms of canon. Everything and everyone was reset, with the exception of Jim. That doesn’t feel bittersweet. That feels pointlessly cruel. And to make it even worse, it wasn’t reset in a way that would allow for everyone to live in much-deserved peace. The Order is still there, the trials and suffering of the series still have to be repeated—but hey, it’s fine, because at least Jim gets to live happily ever after!!!

I cannot fathom how in the blue blazes anyone thought this was an appropriate finale to this series. What was the point of all those adventures, all those relationships, all those struggles and triumphs, if you were just going to erase them at the end? It feels cynical, not bittersweet or conclusive.

This was….a very difficult morning for me. Most of you know that my passion and love for this series has been a huge driving force in my creative growth as an author and an artist. To have it turn so sour, so suddenly, right at the end of it all…I’m probably going to need some time to get over this.

That being said, I know the team behind the movie was under a lot of pressure. Tales of Arcadia is known for being innovative and breaking storytelling molds. I can understand their desire to take the ending in such a drastically different direction. But I don’t think it was the ending this series deserves.

However, I’m aware that this is all pretty subjective. If you loved the ending, please don’t let my take on it ruin that happiness. Just be aware that I will probably be ignoring this movie’s existence as I continue to create fan content. I love these characters too much to abandon the fandom altogether, don’t worry.

Also one thing that I noticed with c!niki is that in the beginning she was painted by the fandom as this sort of overly weepy girl-next-door archetype that boxed her in? I’m not claiming that kindness or anything was bad, but she was often this foot note. No one cares about her, like at all. And people also couldn’t seem to make up their minds about her, especially in Manberg where I saw someone go as far to say that “well she hadn’t gone through *that much*”

This energy of no one really knowing or caring about her character, from that early treatment in s1 or s2 carried over when she started being more badass. And even then people still didn’t care about her,for the most part, very few people in the fandom actually knew what she had done on doomsday. Her badassery is all second hand and like you said, she doesn’t get to be anything else other than a badass.

I was talking with ksusha about this, and we were essentially saying that Niki isn't the best written character most of the time, so if you don't like her, that's fine. just don't talk about it lmao.

like s1 Niki is very personal to me for a lot of reasons, and I care a lot about her narrative weight and themes and her relationships. it's a big thing for me. but the issue is that she's so adjacent to so many big characters that if you don't like her, you can't just avoid her or her purpose in the narrative.

on one level, people just ignoring c!niki if they don't care about her is fine, but then they wind up kind of absorbing things about Niki into other characters because they ignore her, but not her space in the narrative, if that makes sense. for example: niki sewing, niki's general symbolism as the patriotism behind l'manburg, her relationship with wilbur, etc etc, are all things that while I don't think people intentionally do it, they give to other characters and then turn around and call her unimportant and underdeveloped.

and like, to an extent, she is! but not for the reason anyone says! leave her and her narrative space alone! stop trying to care about female characters bc you want to be progressive!
