A post-canon YGODM/Spider-Man crossover! The story begins with Shizuka moving to NYC for med school and rooming with Anzu, who is now an early-career dancer. The Kaiba brothers are also in NYC heading up KaibaCorp America, and predictably they have gotten themselves involved in some weird shit that may or may not have to do with SHIELD.

“I was on my way home from work. Street was totally blocked off,” Anzu said. “The cops didn’t want to let me through, but I managed to get a good look. Apparently most of the apartments were undamaged, we just got really unlucky.” “Woah.” “Yeah. The police officer said it was Spider-Man’s fault.” Mokuba frowned. “The NYPD don’t like Spider-Man very much. You have to take everything they say about him with a grain of salt.” “Thank God I had my laptop with all my homework,” Shizuka muttered into the vinyl tabletop.

“Priorities, both of you!” Anzu cried in frustration, smacking the diner table with her open palm. “Who cares about defending Spider-Man right now? He blew up our apartment. Which means we are homeless. Which means stop worrying about your grades for one second, Shizuka.” “Aw, you’re not homeless,” Mokuba soothed. “You can come stay with us.” “Oh, yeah, because we’re clearly your brother’s favourite people right now.” “My brother only has one favourite person, and that’s me. Everyone else is divided into people he hates and people he tolerates. You guys are still in the second category.” Anzu groaned. “I wonder if we can stay with Michelle for a couple weeks while we look for a new apartment? Is it too weird to ask? Maybe we can afford a few days in a hotel.” Mokuba finished drafting a text and hit send. The reply pinged back a moment later. “Yup. Nii-sama says you can stay with us. He’ll buy you new clothes and supplies and stuff too, to replace what you lost.” Shizuka lifted her head from the table, stunned out of her stupor. “What?” She craned over the phone to read the text exchange. Mokuba: anzu and shizuka’s apartment got blown up by spiderman last night can they stay with us for a while and can we help them replace their stuff thanks niisama you’re the best and i love you forever 💙🐉👍 Seto: Fine Anzu finished reading at about the same time Shizuka did and turned to Mokuba. “Has it ever occurred to you that you have a frightening amount of power?” “Yup,” Mokuba said again.

up at 2 this morning, then 5, then finally began my day at 6 (this is just what it’s like when i’m off ADHD meds and then go back on them, i have some days at first with only 2-5 hours of sleep.). 

but with my favorite coffee (ilu @bethanyactuallyactually) and new pretty yarn (i'm grateful to @actuallylukedanes for that because their nonstop cheering of my new hobby means i always feel like i can buy cute yarn if i want to, even if i don't 'need' it) i'm facing the day.

once caffeine kicks in i'll be working on movie reviews or editing or both, and later i have to watch both ant-man movies because tomorrow i get to go see the new one, and i know i'll hate the cgi but i'm sooooo excited about the cast, especially jonathan majors. i can't wait.

(and yes, most people probably would not have bought a ticket to the third movie in a franchise when they don't actually know if they like the franchise yet. i am not most people. just like with the creed movies, which i also have to catch up on to see the new one, i'm gonna support jonathan major's movie career either way--plus michelle pfeiffer's in the ant-man world somewhere, my lifelong crush, and who doesn't enjoy paul rudd?)

so despite my inability to sleep well lately, i'm determined to make it a good day. coffee and crochet and podcasts is a good start.

Lone Star is tough, because I pretty much love everyone in this bar. So my only obvious answer is Michelle, who I never really gelled with from the beginning, but gets progressively worse for me with every rewatch. That said… as an eldest child with exactly one sibling, I can understand her single-minded focus on finding Iris, and absolutely appreciate her willingness to do whatever it took to track down answers. If my sister vanished without a trace, I can’t say I would be any different.

Probably Carlos. And I know what you’re thinking, but it’s not actually for any cultural reasons! I just see a lot of myself in him — how idealistic he can be, how deferential he is in the name of keeping the peace, how he so clearly wants to be in control of all aspects of his life… and how all of that blows up in his face eventually. He’s also the show’s biggest homebody — for what feels like comfort-based, extroverted introvert reasons — and that is so me. Like, down to the ethnic art collection.

“You don’t have to admit it. It’s kind of telling when you grab me in the middle of the night.” There was a hint of a smirk on his face, but it faded rather quickly when he thought about the last time he’d distracted her.

He cleared his throat and read on, heart only growing softer. She was awfully good at keeping his secret. She was better at it than he was, anyway, and he did appreciate her keeping him and his suit together.

i.      IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS. all in that final ding, that final answer, fate is foretold. cheers increase at a rate alarming to many. some members appear stunned, but not one is disappointed. all eyes are upon the member to render them victorious, praise falling forth from each & every tongue. credit is undoubtedly given where credit is due ( although, as captain, liz does not fail to recognize each member ! ). bus ride elsewhere is chock full of smiles & laughter & even happy tears, the proper space to warrant a rather openly heartfelt:   “ michelle —— you’re amazing ! “ from none other than elizabeth herself. doesn’t quite encompass her gratitude, however. while en route to the monument, just before the other’s decision to stay behind is declared, it is with one swift motion a single appendage finds michelle’s shoulders. rather than delivering words, she resorts to actions as clearly demonstrated by the gentle press of lips upon cheek. it is but a small token of her appreciation.

ii.      THERE’S CHEMISTRY – IN & OUT OF CLASS. senior girl impenetrates sophomore classroom with mere presence. she is a spectacle to all as she awaits younger companion. approach is steady as simplistic greetings are offered & lone digit dares to trace indentations left by goggles. teeth make a striking appearance from behind petals originally only parted, spreading them wide & leaving them taut.  the other flinches upon swipe amongst middle of furrowed forehead. at that, palm retracts & journey ceases. eyes remain wide. reaction is met with a most minuscule michelle - smile whilist optics dance with mirth. liz beams & strips goggles from atop her head. she comes to kiss the spot, lips so close & yet so far for fear of causing any actual pain. “ to make it better, “ she’ assures. one step backward, then two, & she’s padded off to return the item to it’s proper place.

iii.       MOVIE NIGHTS, SPENT DOING EVERYTHING BUT WATCHING THE MOVIE. locks cascade from own scalp onto one’s  shoulder. space seems a term, a concept, foreign to fine form curled there ‘pon companion. ironic, given the space - oriented documentary that plays upon television screen. whilst typically enamored by the lessons & language of the cosmos, focus remains involuntarily upon the way limbs tangle there beneath blanket. the girls have been sneaking peek after peek. liz ? a rookie. michelle ? a pro. even so, the elder of the pair swears stolen glances stem from the desire to monitor whether she has taken a liking to her choice of entertainment ( justified, given the chorus of snores stemming from couch behind ). legs begin to shift from the web - weaved, however michelle’s inaction causes her to cease. a silent request for her to stay. non - verbal, but plea is made in what is a blur of honeyed hues, soft assertions via palm to arm, & a brief, but fatuous match of footsie. liz allows head to fall once more upon shoulder. lashes that protrude from lids come close enough to flutter along umber countenance. slow, soft, sweet.

iv.        IT WAS SIMULTANEOUSLY TOO MUCH & NOT ENOUGH. it is a night to remember for all the wrong reasons. doubts present themselves in a barbaric nature: they choke, they suffocate, they drown. keep her down in all the worst ways. but – the burning comes her own volition. whilst she’d nursed that cup of … punch & whatever - the - hell - else in her palm, she had been in search of an aid to set both mind & body free. cannot quite place whether she’d found it within liquid or lights. or, maybe … michelle’s eyes. they are not blue ( rather, a far more mesmerizing hue ) & yet in this instance liz is reminded of shallow, non - tremulous waters. they pull her in, make her feel … what, alright ? hardly. not strong enough. words often seems to fail her when describing interactions with the other, but especially so now given that she feels better than alright. doesn’t take much for her to be certain it’s not the alcohol in her veins bringing about butterflies to stomach. it’s the way the pair undulate ‘neath gym lights, limbs almost close enough to touch … it makes liz wants to kiss her. right here. in front of all who watch in awe as she dances away each ache. she moves to do so, but panics & instead captures fingers to spin michelle once, twice … & when the whirlwind ceases, lips press chaste kiss to hand.

v.          IT’S HARD TO SAY GOODBYE. bottoms planted ‘pon swing set are immovable. each allotted their own spot, mere feet apart. while close in proximity, minds probe the same matter in different manners. one teen moves sole foot steadily. the other, entirely still. they teeter between every right & every wrong & every in - between. feelings remain unspoken, seemingly in an immature phase or that which cannot be done justice simply by way of words. too broad & too confusing ; unsurprising, given this romance’s stunted opportunity to develop. & yet, even in the midst of confusion, ring - clad pinky links with the corresponding digit belonging to the other as opposite palm comes to rest there atop right cheek. lips are deliberate in their movements. a kiss is pressed upon jawline, from one cheekbone to the next, among forehead & hairline. liz withdraws & optics fall upon lips.  she is certain she wants this – wants her – but fears michelle might not feel the same. fear soon subsides. the girl hasn’t a clue who moves first to close the space, but it is no more. thoughts of first movements & chaste touches & honeyed sighs are forfeit in favor of relishing in the sensation of lips finally  against her own.

director's commentary on new beginnings? ily 😘

Ahh!! Ilu birb 🥺

New Beginnings has taken me almost two years (sorry y’all), but it started off as a Coming of Age AU inspired by so, so many (Juno — splitting the fic series by seasons, Mean Girls — cliques but make it Midtown Tech, so clubs, etc. Lady Bird — MJ’s backstory of coming from the working class/wanting to be called MJ vs. Michelle). I also wanted to take a mix of the MCU gang + comic Spidey gang and strip them away from the powers and focus mostly on their characters!

I love narratives about complex family backgrounds. I think it’s something that can be so personal, which is one of the main drives about writing the fic because Michelle doesn’t have a lot of background in the MCU.

New Beginnings is going to be a total of five parts: Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer (Again) 😘

Transitioning back into a routine after a break has always been especially difficult for me mentally. I have always been a person who thrives on a routine, so when said routine is interrupted and altered, adjusting can take me longer than usual. I typically beat myself up over it, like “hurry up, michelle! Catch up!” BUT I will not do that this week. I will take it in steps, and accept it and be okay with it. I’m not lazy, I’m not selfish. INTRO: MC is walking around the city, singing about how wonderful Charles is and also about how less wonderful college is:

“It’s a beautiful morning in Charles! Wish I could stay out and enjoy it, but soon I’ve got to go back and study, which frankly is kind of annoying...”

But hey it’s Charles so that makes it worth it.

Bumps into this old dude who’s kinda weird but he seems nice so ok. And probs some big shot I mean he had this slick employee dude and a really posh car we’re talking mr. money bags here. Hang on to that number I guess.

Oh no it’s starting to RAIN it NEVER rains when something of import is about to happen in musicals! RUN FOR COVER oh look pretty flowers.

Cue smooth male vocalist from off-stage singing about flowers and comparing MC to one. She’s looking around like “da fuq” and then Edward swans in to do a song and dance number with a confused MC/the flowers (don’t ask).

“Shall I compare thee to a lovely rose? Those wide, bright eyes, and that sweet nose. But ah, such trite comparison is simply a sin! When you must be an angel, sent straight from heaven~”

Then Luke comes driving in all splash splash mofo right on MC. Of course he didn’t do it on purpose and promptly tries to make things right, but then Keith pops out and ruins it, because Keith. Then they leave and Edward is all “Ok so lemme ask you out as an apology.”

~*~*~*SCENE CHANGE*~*~*~

BALL(IN’) SCENE: MC is at Nobel Michel. She stares at all the lavish paintings and architecture, in awe that she’s there at all.

“Nobel Michel--am I under some spell? The promised land of every princess wanna-be! Nobel Michel--if I’m dreaming, don’t tell me... Tonight, let me believe I’m real royalty!”

So she runs into the princes and they’re all “hey lady haven’t seen u before come here often.”

And she’s like “those dudes look familiar but NAHHH must be my imagination.” Goes in, meets up with Edward who’s all “u look smashing in that dress I picked out for you, nice job, me” but then he has to go prance down some stairs with the other princes.

MC is all “WHAAAT” and then someone asks her to dance. She turns around...... 

IT’S YO’ BOY ROBERTO.

So they start dancing and MC’s nervous like “I haven’t danced before” and Roberto’s like “It’s okay! Have fun with it” and then a really snazzy song and dance number starts where they’re waltzing around the other fancy dancers, doing their own thing but still looking really super classy because they’re still in time to the song.

“Waltz on the wild side a bit... Just trust me! Turn a trip into a dip--like this! Don’t worry about your feet, keep your eyes right on me. Now you’ve got it! You make it look easy!”

Dance ends, and MC had a lot of fun and feels a lot better. Cut to her makin’ her way down the hall, walking moderately, when suddenly, ROBERTO. And now they’re walking faster, in fact they book it all the way to her apartment. 

Roberto’s like “oh yeah so there’s this scandal ‘cause I told everyone we’re dating, uh... what’s ur name again?” And Alberto shows up like “You are so grounded and also your lady friend here too.”

Thoughts on "The Lie of the Land"

•LOL MAGPIE ELECTRONICS

•That was a superb episode, and not just by Whithouse standards either. Possibly the best of the trilogy.

•Nardole being Actual Spock was hilarious and…kind of impressive? At this rate he’s going to be my favorite character before the series is over.

•That whole scene at the beginning when Bill shoots the Doctor was very intense, but I found the abrupt resolution hilarious. Not sure if my sudden shriek of laughter when Twelve started giggling at Bill was actually due to the comedic timing or just a reaction to the stress of the episode, but it was effective ether way.

•Murray Gold surpassed himself with the score in this one. If the series 10 soundtrack is withheld from us like last time, I’m going to be very frustrated.

•I love that Twelve actually called Bill out on ignoring his wishes, but I also liked that it was all part of his fake routine and dismissed after that. Because on the one hand, it’s arguable that Bill made a very wrong choice that violated the consent of millions of people, including the Doctor. On the other hand, neither she nor the Doctor would be who they were if they could let a person they loved die when they had a way to save them. And I think the Doctor understands that (also he’d be a huge hypocrite if he was too hard on Bill for her actions).

•Not much to say about the Monks here, since they didn’t actually show up much. But that was actually a nice touch, reflecting both the Monks’ arrogance and the fact that these planetary takeovers seem to be routine for them. It added to the dystopian feel of this episode.

•I adored the ending. It was a little sappy but that’s just Doctor Who for you. I loved the callback to “Extremis” in Bill’s mum being a subroutine that took on life (and saved the world). This arc was just beautiful thematically.

•GO BILL GO ILU BILL. She has yet to make me regret my url. I was moved by many of her scenes this episode, especially her preparing to shoot the Doctor and saying good-bye at the end (how River-ish of her to tie the Doctor up first). Pearl Mackie did some incredible work here.

•Speaking of Bill, I am loving her character arc this series because it’s so cohesive. Every episode just flows naturally into the next in terms of her character. Her memories of her mum at the end could have been an obvious plot device, but her mum’s importance to her, talking to her mum in times of stress, etc. were already set up in episodes like “Knock Knock” and “Oxygen” and this felt like an obvious extension of that. I’m actually amazed at how fully-formed Bill feels at this point.

•And now: MISSY.

•First of all, what does she want with a pony?

•Michelle Gomez managed to steal the episode in like two minutes of screen time, which is Unfair. How is she even a real person.

•Missy’s singsong “Awk-ward” is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.

•Having seen this whole three-parter, I can now unequivocally say that I love the reveal behind the vault! It’s touching and so true to who the Doctor and the Master are, that he’d ground himself to redeem her.

•Here is where I’d like to take a moment and really appreciate Simm!Master. Because he wiped out a tenth of Earth at one point, which seems so big. And I was wondering the other day why the Master is still considered a redeemable character after all that. Of course, this show believes that everyone is redeemable (and I agree), but deeper than that it reminds me that the Doctor obliterated whole planets and species during the Time War. So Missy and the Doctor have got this almost Frodo-Gollum thing going on, where Twelve is desperate to redeem Missy because it proves that he himself can be redeemed. There’s a lot to dislike about the Master stories in the Davies era, but they also built a really solid foundation for what’s happening now.

•UGH WHEN SHE STARTED CRYING I STARTED CRYING. Not cool, show. Not cool.

•I do appreciate that they’re showing repentance and reform as a (very) long process that involves a significant amount of pain. I think it’s realistic and I especially appreciate that these scenes neither brush Missy’s crimes under the rug nor present her as wholly irredeemable.

•As a Christian, I’m also really loving the theme of redemption that’s so strong this series. Nobody is beyond forgiveness, and everybody can change, even a millennia-old Time Lady. (All you need to do is call upon the name of Jesus.)

•At the same time, I wonder if Clara would ever support this? I’m thinking no, just because of Danny. Which is an interesting difference between her and Twelve—for all his talk, Twelve forgave even Ashildr relatively quickly. Whereas I think Clara can hold grudges for a really long time. That would have been an interesting dynamic to play out, seeing how much Clara would resist the idea of Twelve trying to reform Missy. Oh well. I also loved all of Bill and Missy’s interactions, so there we are.

•Twelve and Nardole were brilliant as usual this episode and that’s about all I have to say about that.

Number of time warps/jumps: 3 1. Scorpion: a month.long (4-5 weeks) timejump between episode 3x22 & 3x23...the s3 finale lead-in episode starts after a month timejump. Plus there is another, about 3-week timejump between/inside episode 3x24 & 3x25.  

I’m starting to think we’ll be getting a timejump...either during the finale (episodes 3x23, 3x24, 3x25...or if not, then definitely between s3 & s4 (like between s1 & s2) or in s4 opener, ep 4x01. But I’m leaning towards 2 weeks to 2-4 months time jump in the finale... somewhere in/between episodes 23-24-25. I also predict a small timejump of 2-6 weeks  between episode 2x22 & 2x23 aka the wedding day ep 3x23 starts several weeks after the last pre-sweps ep ended.  #thebeachplot #prettymuchconfirmed ETA: We’re getting a 3-week timejump in the finale(before the finale), ep 3x25
