Hey guys!!! Thanks to our lovely anon/blog historian, Soupy, we now have a recorded history!! Blog lore, my beloved. I'll try and start adding in our new things too, but to any newbies out there, come take a look :):):):)

About the lore for this blog, i cannot remember everything, but i can do something about the cursed asks lore and history, since i just scrolled all the posts in the tags!

31 Jan 2021: an anonymous send an ask asking what people actually mean when they tell a ship if "pedophilic". This start a big number of asks about real survivor and how fucked up is fandom water down the word, purity culture, and consequently story time about harassing people in fandom for purity culture.

1 Feb 2021: someone speak about how much fucked up fics helped them. This probably opened the possibility of cursed asks. The same day, someone other send an ask about a terrible person known for harassing people about the sexuality of a character. The person is called "train fucker".

2 Feb 2021: anonymous point the attention on the train fucking thing. The cursed ask tag is created.

In the following hours, always in the cursed ask tag, people discover the fandom was Death Note and the guy was apparently in real attracted to trains and planes. Hell break down, memes are created.

History is made.

One of the characters will later become protagonists of the tag already existed. PKD already was knew since the 22 Jan 2021, when they sent an ask about the color asks and you had the intuition the tags he was probably someone with a piss kink and the tag "chronicles of piss" was created.

Cursed ask history part 2:

At this moment on time,the tags is still not clearly used. One of the First post tagged as such, the 9th Feb, is an anon answering to the ear fucking conversation about micropenis, while all the other posts are not tagged. The philanthropist appeared the same day #the cancel scale started. With their iconic "i am a shameless philanthropist and so my bookmarks are public. I eat dead doves for breakfast. Come on down to the buffet y'all! You want some wound fucking? 8-yr-old omega abortion? I got you fam, watch me scramble these eggs" they left a forever sign in this blog. Still to this days asks are written to know if they are good. They obtained a 12/10 in the cancel scale.

Wound fucking discourse started, also the same day, by CB answering "is that where the wound fucking comes in??" At a ask about vivisection and medical experimentation. Discourse about what classify as a wound and how it works continued trought the day.

Rpf bdsm is thought to have beat the philanthropist with their mix of rape, underage, incest in a foursome, huge age, rpf tentacles and, mostly, someone getting turned into a pickle and his partner fucking himself with it.

This also started a string of asks about people being transformed in object used for sex.

Rpf bdsm would appear again later that day to specify the pickle fic was a rpf.

Cursed ask history part 4 (i think? Already lost the count)

Mlp guy. The one and only. Always in the terrible 2 Jan 2021, they first appeared in the tags of an answer to a marvel ask. #Hey HEY mlp guy #u know who u r #i'm afraid to look at this ask #like yeah we saw some shit tonight but this blows that outta the fuckin WATER #y'all would dead ass have to pay me to post it

Someone noticed the tags and asked about it, and a strong sexual tension between everyone and the unpublished mlp ask started. Someone ended up paying, cause the ask was later published as last post of the day and terrorized every follower of the blog. It was published as screenshot of the ask, and is not even put in the #cancel scale.

MLP guy stayed so in the apex of the cursed asks for some months, till the Pokémon ask by soupy was published the 9th may 2021, taking home a 15/10. MLP guy made a Tumblr profile, @therealmlpguy, in retiliation, and reblogged answering with a new terribly cursed fic. CB have still not voted it, so who have the worst cursed ask is still in question.

The day of #cancel scale the blog fanficmemes lost many followers, but the story was, as we know, not finished.

Cursed ask history part 5

I like to stay an half cryptid of this blog, so i will not tell my blog of origin, but i can tell you I am Soupy. Also i need to know if i am actually considered a cryptic of the blog and if i need to make a lore post about myself XD.

This is starting to get hard cause i cannot reread what i already sent, but the end of the tunnel is near.

We already told about owl fucking anon in the cursed ask tag, but their story is a bit more longer. The cursed ask was actually their big return, and they are probably one of the most proficious lore making, having also a part in the creation of the PKD legend. They should really have their own tag.

How? Well.

The 17 Jan 2021, when the big part of the cancel scale was done and the elders of the lore created, they sent an anon ask about what the cancel scale made them remember. It was a fic, red when they were ten or eleven, about someone fucking an owl while the owl was on their period. Consensual, and apparently the authors were two teen girl who write only character x owl. Their mom proofread. CB answered with their profile picture, edited so that it red "i can't believe it's gotten even worse!" Instead of "i can't believe it's not canon".

This post created, if we want to say, PKD, cause their first ask, that assigned them piss kink, was yes about the color asks (that, in case someone does not remember, was CB asking what colors people assigned to them), but had as explanation "if you keep posting stuff like the owl period whatever". So the owl fucking anon indirectly created, the 22 Jan 2021, PKD.

Owl fucking anon continued their ascension to lore of the blog.

The 12th Feb 2021 sent an ask were they were surprised someone had found Hagrid x Hedwing fics, and than sent anther 9 parts ask about the story of how they red lot of cursed shits thanks to an old tumblr blog that had the links, and how from there they found an author who only published Hagrid x Hedwing, and how that introduced them to FF smut.

(it is also discovered they are only 15, baby, please, i am noone to talk with the shits i red at the time but i hope you are ok).

They are now consacrated in the memory of the blog.

Cursed ask history part 6

Before continuing with the history of the cursed asks, is now time to finally give a small talk about PKD. We know how they originated, but how they become so famous?

Probably is the fact they appeared so many time during the last months. Being it for cancel scale, cursed asks or just normal asks, they continue to give us company with their exploration of piss kink fic. Is true they soundly negate having the kink the first months, but after lot of memes and people speaking about it, the 25 Apr 2021 they finally admitted of having the kink,and discovered it reading an a/b/o Captain America fic.

I would suggest to read all the posts, but they stopped being tagged halfway through, so is half in the specific #chronicles of piss and half in the #cursed ask

Cursed ask history part 7

The big lore is finished, and now only the later history stay.

#cancel scale posts and #cursed asks post lived side by side for some days. The owl fucking one of the 12 Feb was actually the last cursed fic published in the cancel scale post, leaving the tag only for some history reference later.

#cursed asks saw the appearence of every type of cursed possible to thought, with scat and nipple fucking between the different tags. At the start there was no specific day chosen, but later, for CB schedule reasons, Saturday was assigned as cursed ask day, and some week later it was moved to Sunday.

And here we are, today, to see what other cursed things we will bring in this world

Cursed fic History part 8

The cursed fic History have been covered, but i still think is important to talk about some of the before time tags that created the good ecosystem for the creation of #cursed ask.

The most famous is #the lube discussion.

It started the 23 Aug 2020, when CB wrote a post about FF using the word "supple" in smut without the thing being actually supple. In the tag, they added #also #that does Not work as lube.

Some anon asked what was being used as lube, that was answered with "one was peanut butter. I will not discuss the other". This started the bug lube discussion, were everyone talked about what they continingly see used as lube when it cannot be used as lube.

Between the classics soap and blood, we see some more daring one as mud, yogurt, aloe vera, years, milk, hot sauce and the more intersting, cannoli (have no idea if they are talking about the cream you put in cannoli or some american thing i don't know).

Nothing reached cursed material, but it put the first seed for the blog.

So You Don’t Read Fic...

After my post from earlier (x) and realizing that my feelings are somewhat universal in this phandom, I wanted to think of some practical ways that we can support authors in our community even when we aren’t reading their fics (as that seems to be a really common sentiment).

Reading and engaging directly with fic is so powerful, but it’s not possible for everybody all of the time. Here are some other ways to help authors feel appreciated for their time, effort, and work:

if you don’t read wips: send an ask about how excited you are to read the fic when it’s finished (the author can’t know that you intend to read it or your personal wip policy unless you tell them)

if you have a fic open in a tab but your brain isn’t up for it: say that! (but don’t make it about reassuring you that you shouldn’t feel guilty) authors are understanding, they just want people to be as excited about their works as they are even if you can’t read them for whatever reason

if you see someone doing an ask meme: ask something, anything! pick some random numbers and send them as three separate anons (if you’ve never had to shamefully scroll back down your posts hours later and delete an ask meme because nobody sent you anything, it’s quite brutal), one policy I’ve seen is to send an ask to whoever you reblogged the ask meme from and to anyone who reblogs it from you

if you trust an author or are pretty confident in the quality/content of a fic: you can reblog a fic without reading it! some people use the tags “to read” or “author rec” to both help themselves find the fic later and so that they aren’t actually reccing a fic they haven’t read, definitely comes across as a vote of confidence

if you can’t reblog for some reason: likes go a long way in making an author feel seen, and a like is very nonspecific and can mean anything from ‘nice!’ to ‘hey, good on you for doing a thing, I’m proud of you’

if you betaed the fic: there’s no expectation that you go read/comment on that work but its always a nice surprise if you do — it means you liked the fic enough to be willing to say so publicly. on the other hand if you don’t like/reblog the post, it can make the author worry (especially if you were tagged)

if you aren’t reading fic now but you did read a fic a while ago and are still thinking about it: send a message to the author — it will always be appreciated and it’s a wonderful way to help the author feel like they’re memorable (and also remind them that their past work isn’t trash even if they’ve grown as a writer since)

People here are really so supportive, but that support is sometimes invisible to the author. If you’ve seen or done other things to help authors be recognized or supported, please feel free to add them!

5k Followers Celebration!

I feel like a lot of folks are probably confused as to the amount of followers, but I’m going to dump that all under a read more! Right now I just want to focus on saying thanks, and! The best I can think of is a ‘thank you’ fic! (With a blabbery/rambling thank you under a read more).

A while ago I mentioned that once I hit my next milestone I would let you guys choose the next suitor to get pegged, so I made a handy little poll to do just that! It’s not set to gather any info outside of voting/written in suggestions (if you want) with the other (not required) qs.

Obviously, since there are a lot of suitors I can’t really write well at all, there’s only a few to pick from here, but I hope at least one suitor is someone you’ve been wanting to see get pegged! But, regardless, here is the poll: click me!

I believe in the past I also mentioned doing a poll where it’s voting for a non-pegging fic, and while I want to do that as well, I am going to wait a few months before I do that. Just to see how this one goes, and to give myself a break in between writing for others vs writing for myself. I’m sorry if that’s a bit disappointing.

When it comes to the poll itself, I’m probably going to keep it open for three days, unless it seems like its getting a lot of votes still, then I might extend it to last a full week instead! Wanna give folks a good chance to vote qq

And now, time for Scum to attempt a coherent ‘thank you’!

I’m always pretty bad at these types of posts because in all honesty I don’t really like looking at numbers often, since it usually adds onto my anxiety and, admittedly, stresses me out. It’s hard to figure out things I want to say because of this, because I do want to thank folks, but I also want to clarify some viewpoints I have so I (hopefully) don’t give off bad mindsets to have with these things. Because I’ve seen that people often like shoving number counts as a way to ‘one up’ others or something really weird like that, and thankfully I have Not seen it in the ikevamp fandom much. (Or, I may be lucky and haven’t ran into people like that.) While it probably comes off as hypocritical to say, I greatly dislike the idea of numbers = worth. I hate it in the sense of how I’ve seen it rip friends apart or have been used as an excuse towards bullying others. Because of that, I don’t think I’m going to be making any posts about the amount of followers I have for a long, long, time, if at all, and it’s partly why I’ve avoided answering any anons or those fun tag meme things that ask to list a follower count. It’s obvious (I hope) that no, I do not have 5k followers that are purely from the ikevamp fandom. This is a mixture from the past fandoms I’ve been in (well, I was only in one for half a moment so maybe just Two fandoms), and surprisingly a lot of you have stuck around through the fandom changes. Admittedly, I wanted to figure out how many I had before writing for ikevamp, but I couldn’t find a way to find out old follower counts based off of dates. And then it opened up the can of worms of not having ‘picture proof’ if anyone asked for it, and instead able to only offer just a set ‘in all’ total.

This probably doesn’t sound coherent, but I hope it makes at least some sense: while I hate looking at my follower count or witnessing weird (negative) fixations* on others follower counts, I absolutely do not hate seeing all of the familiar names that pop up in my notifications. I don’t have any negative feelings towards any followers, and I get,,,,,,,cheesily,,,,,, overwhelmed,,,, when I see someone that followed me like 2 or 3 years ago interacting with posts I’ve made recently.

Knowing folks have stuck around with me for so long and are offering support in ways of just hanging around still means a lot, even when its often clear I don’t write for the fandoms they initially followed me for, and it always makes me happy (and sappy) to see urls that I remember. Even if they’re just liking a random text post I made ;;; It’s probably weird to do so, but, that’s what makes me the happiest. 

That isn’t to say that I don’t remember newer faces! A lot of you interact with me a lot and are always extremely kind to remind me it’s okay for me to take breaks, it’s okay for me not to get out a new fic asap or for me to just chill out and breathe. You guys are also quick to give me encouragement when I need it, even if I’m not even directly asking for it, and there’s a lot of replies/anons/asks I go back and read that help me out when I’m feeling a bit low ;;

It always makes me scoff at myself when I say “I don’t know how to word this” or “I’m bad at words”, but I really hope that it’s clear that I do appreciate the people who support me, whether old or new. You guys have helped me a lot, encouraged me to keep writing when I’ve been close to given up way more often than I’d like to admit, and being able to talk to you guys makes me ;;; very happy and thankful, especially given current world events…

Thank you guys for talking to me and taking the time out of your day to read what I write, whether it’s a silly text post or a fic I worked on. Thank you guys for supporting me, whether it’s been ‘quietly’ or ‘loudly’. Thank you guys for ;;; treating me like a person, and acknowledging there’s someone behind the blog, because I have not been so lucky in the past, and I know others haven’t been either. Like. God. I am not exaggerating when I say this fandom has been the nicest I’ve been in so far. In past fandoms, I’ve been sent gore for liking a character, I’ve been stalked and harrassed for a year over liking another character. Having people who have stuck around through all of that means a lot, and having newer faces that are so kind to me means ;;;; a lot too. I’m very thankful for the kindness I receive every day.

*Do want to clarify that no matter how many followers someone has, I think it’s absolutely fine to celebrate getting so many followers. I think it’d be insanely hypocritical to say it wasn’t HAHA. In past fandoms people just used follower counts in so many hateful ways so it’s hard for me to talk about numbers given some unhealthy viewpoints I witnessed from others and had pushed on me back when I was starting this blog.

when i joined the genshin fandom, you were one of the first blogs that i had run into, and that's pretty neat. at first, i didn't follow you, since i wasn't really used to your writing. but as i kept on encountering your works, i eventually grew accustomed to it- and i like your writing style! v swag :)

your oc, toxin, is just- perfection. i like the whole background thing, powers, but the fic i liked the most was the one where toxin attempts to poison you. my imagination can just run wild from there, picturing out what the character did after running out to go after toxin, but for zhongli's case how he took care of you + what he did after.

you, pocket, are a wonderful person- if you receive hate, you don't deserve it! 6000 seems like a large accomplishment, and it must've felt really nice to hit that number. a great person like you deserves the world, but the world may not deserve you. your presence alone on tumblr is practically a blessing, and i'm grateful for everything that you've wrote! not only that, but you've helped me become bolder and interact off anon. i think that's pretty neat, genuinely.

You’re blog is just generally amazing! Ig the hate comes with being know for shipping a rare pair. I would say ignore it for now because the people who love your incorrect quotes and memes are greater in number. Keep doing what your doing!

This was so sweet ( ꈍᴗꈍ) . I am ignoring the hate, been meaning to transfer stuff to ao3 regardless of drama to have it archived, and the hate is not direct but it's...how do I describe it...straining. The atla fandom is not welcoming imho and that's why you may notice a lot of blogs leaving or decreasing activity. More on that under the cut because it's long and tedious.

Users: If you make a headcanon or post that goes against the grain aka doesn't praise the opinions of a BNF (Big Name Fan: a tumblr blogger with a large amount of followers and a strong media presence in their respective fandoms) then you will be shunned. The BNF may make a post or a blacklist and their followers will blindly obey them without fact checking which can result in you getting banned from blogs you never interacted with, shadow banned, sent anon hate, or trashtalked in a group chat. Yes, really.

This fandom blacklist can be based on the pettiest things and are more often than not completely false. I don't know why tumblr users think popularity = trustworthiness it's an issue especially when the accusations are as heavy as they are false. There's a reason why even the most factual and thoroughly sourced Tumblr post will never be put on a resume & why credentials are never posted (fun fact, everyone can have a phd on the internet) because Tumblr is not the right medium for this sort of stuff.

Artists: Depending on the pairing and the whims of the fandom you can be accused of pedophilia, racism, etc.

**Note: If you are a minor and you truly believe that a sect of the fandom are pedophiles then do not interact with them and loudly declare you are a minor. THAT IS STUPID DANGEROUS. Interacting includes doing anything from venting in tumblr group chats (everyone can see them without joining, group chats are incredibly dangerous for minors, screenshots can be taken, etc.) or making public (if its on your blog its public) blocklists. **

The accusations are usually false or exaggerated. Especially if you draw art of a pairing. Any pairing. Your art will also be reposted to other sites without credit and you'll receive comments like "ewww why does this pairing have such good art" which is really bad for self esteem. Writers: Oh boy where do I begin. I made a tumblr to get more hits on my fanfics and a BNF accused me of plagiarism and identified my ao3 fic by title and username. On Tumblr. Instead of going into detail about how baseless the claim is I'll point out that AO3 has a report plagiarism feature but they can't do anything about offsite harassment.

Your fanfics can be accused of plagiarism but they can also be accused of racism, sexism, etc. Regardless of the validity of the claims, targeting the users for a free work is terrible especially when it's done offsite and can take many forms (such as anon hate). If you believe a work to be problematic, leave a comment or review on the work instead detailing your misgivings.

On that note, a lot of atla discussion posts receive similar treatment. People have different views and headcanons and interpretations of a work but instead of agreeing to disagree or blocking, users will signal to their friends and followers to blacklist a blog for the following xyz reasons and these reasons are not only incendiary and subject to interpretation, but they're used as a justification for anon hate and death threats.

It's a stressful time all around.

The way someone is dragging up Jiggy's secrets has a lot of poetic justice to it. Everyone is outraged and gossiping. Consensus is reached quickly. Kinda makes me feel that that someone (who probably also wrote the letter to jgy) knows exactly how to use the sect world's worst qualities as a weapon

And again, I cannot stress enough how wonderful that is! And how rare and precious in a show like this. So often character's get put through unimaginable trauma, but they either brush it off no problem or the show/movie ends immediately after the main action and you are left to imagine the number it did on the character's psyche. There are so rarely fantasy shows that really dive into the emotional fallout the plot has on their characters and then give them time to heal. Thus show does both and I'm so goddamn overjoyed my it!

Come to think of it, it reminds me of a very good hurt/comfort fic 🤷‍♀️

Jiang Cheng pleae, fir once, try not to be angry immediately when you're hurting :(

He still takes special offence that lwj is there. Makes me wonder if he still feels like wwx chooses lwj over the Jiang sect and is still hurt by it 😔 (note that at the same time, he reminds wwx that he's very much not a member of the Jiang clan anymore. For once, as much as I love it when lwj defends wwx (especially when it's not against any physical harm, but because he doesn't want wwx to be hurt emotionally) I think him interfering with this particular conflict does not help

It's so goddamn tragic how much between these two was destroyed simply because they have such a different status in society and could never quite understand each other's perspective

Can we appreciate for a second how much this shot tells us? From Jiang Cheng's angry desperation, to Wei Wuxian's quite acceptance of his rage (which must be so confusing to Jiang Cheng and probably hurt him even more. Because fighting is always how these two resolved their issues!) to Lan Wangji who is in full on protective mode (which I find more than heartwarming,but still think probably isn't helpful rn)

Huh, this episode was a roller coaster. you guys did NOT exaggerate! I loved it to pieces. I'm floored once more by all the actor's performances. Wen Ning revealed a lot about his character, Jiang Cheng broke my heart, Lan Wangji made it melt and Shijie is still able to make me bawl in an instant. But ... I'm not left with a bitter feeling. Sure, jiang Cheng and wei Wuxian havebt reconciled, but the truth is the first step to even have that possibility. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are both healing and whatever happens in the last 4 (4!!!😭) episodes, I'm not dreading it that much right now. I feel like we're climbing upwards :)

All right, I’ve posted some more stuff on AO3, time for a break, you’ve sent me love hearts! Thank you! I love you too, anon. You get the first non-toku thing of this meme, a JJBA fic that’s been sitting half-written on my hard drive since September of 2019. The tentative title is “Yukako Yamagishi Wants To Kiss A Pretty Girl,” and it’s about Yukako doing a study-abroad trip in Italy and falling desperately in love with Trish Una. This is from mid-way through the written story.

Outside Naples

As it turned out, Trish and Giorno’s idea of a picnic involved sitting on a richly-embroidered Turkish bedspread in the shade of the spreading branches of cherry trees, eating a fully-cooked meal from a very exclusive restaurant off bone china that was at least a hundred years old. It was very nice, but all the same, Yukako found herself feeling a bit out of her depth.

It certainly wasn’t the first time she’d felt so in the company of her Italian friends. She’d lived a fairly privileged life in Morioh, everyone knew the Yamagishis had money, but there was an order of magnitude between her family’s prosperous comfort and her new friends’ almost ostentatious life of luxury. She would have asked what their parents did that they could throw money around like this, but neither Giorno nor Trish had ever mentioned family of any kind, and she was certain that it would be unforgivably rude to ask them pointe blank. As long as neither of them tried to do anything that she’d be entirely unable to reciprocate, it seemed like staying quiet would be the wiser course of action.

It had taken her a very long time to find any kind of calm within herself. It was almost nice to know that having found it, she could maintain it.

Mista, who she found she liked very much, had climbed up one of the cherry trees with a basket, and was picking cherries and alternating between putting them in the basket and tossing them down for Giorno to catch. It was apparently a common game for them; Giorno managed to catch them in his mouth nine times out of ten. Distractingly, Mista’s little golden Stand things also kept coming out from wherever they hid and crawling around on him and arguing in tiny, shrill voices; it was very difficult for Yukako to ignore, especially since he would occasionally stop to feed them cherries too.

At the other end of the blanket, Trish was painting Yukako’s nails. “You have gorgeous hands, has anyone ever told you that? If you ever wanted to do some modeling I know a guy who’d go out of his fucking mind to photograph you.”

“What, me? Modeling? Oh, no, that’s really kind of you to say but I don’t have the looks for it.”

Trish frowned. “Who told you that? Whoever it is, they’re an idiot and I’ll fight them personally, you’re really beautiful.”

Yukako felt herself turn bright red and didn’t say, “My mother,” because Trish would certainly have been upset by it. She was just being flattering, anyway.

“Really, Yukako, you could put in a little effort, this is a very important function for your father. You could at least do something with your hair, for god’s sake.”

So instead she said, “How long have you and Giorno been together?”

Trish made a startled noise and nearly lost control of the nail polish brush. “Me and Giorno? Oh my god no, he’s like my brother. Plus he doesn’t like girls. Honestly I don’t think he likes guys either. I don’t think he likes anyone that way except Mista, and they’re…whatever they’ve got going on confuses the hell out of me.”

The way she said Mista’s name was...attention-getting, and Yukako said, “Oh.”

“Oh? Oh what, what are you looking at me like that for—”

“You like Mista.”

Trish blushed. It was nice to see, both because she so rarely seemed thrown off by anything and also because she did it very prettily. “I guess? We’ve gone out a few times, he’s…he’s sweet.”

“But he’s with Giorno.”

“Yeah, but…like I said, their whole thing is complicated. Except for the most basic part of it, which is that he’d follow Giorno literally anywhere, whether or not I was coming too.” She glanced over to the other end of the blanket with a sigh. “It’s hard knowing you’re never going to be number one, you know?”

Yukako’s eyebrows immediately drew down. “Trish, that’s absolutely not true, you’re a wonderful, beautiful person and I know you’ll find someone who appreciates you.” Or I’ll have something to say about it myself.

“Has anyone ever told you you’re really sweet?”

Yukako opened her mouth and didn’t know what to say. Her stomach felt funny.

“Yuya? You ok?”

She was saved from answering by Mista choosing that moment to fall out of the cherry tree.

It wasn’t really his fault; he’d crawled out a bit onto a branch to get a few particularly ripe specimens and it had given way underneath him, not while he was there but when he started moving back toward the trunk. The basket, wedged into the crook of another branch nearby, was fine, but Mista himself grabbed out, caught uselessly at nothing, and toppled straight toward the ground.

Giorno leapt to his feet with a shout of, “Mista!” but it was too late and the tree was just too short for anyone to get there in time.

Until a  pink figure manifested over Trish’s head and Mista hit the ground and bounced.

Shocked, Yukako said, “You have a Stand?”

Trish’s eyes went wide. “You can see her?”

And then the basket of cherries did fall out of the tree, so Yukako caught it with her hair.

One of Mista’s little golden things shrieked, “I knew it! I told you she saw me! Five, you owe me a euro!”

A couple of days ago I reblogged a fanfic author ask meme, and @robotsnchicks, @serricoj​ and a couple of anons sent in some numbers. (Thanks!)

It is a bit weird to answer these now, while I’m a bit of a creative slump, but maybe this’ll help inspire something.

3. In your opinion, what’s your best fic?

Right off the bat, a tough question! Okay, using the metric where “best” means “fic that I’m happiest with in its final form and am proud of from a storytelling point of view”, it’s my 2011 entry of the SPN Big Bang, A Judicious Application of Free Will, which was tremendously satisfying to put together and, at the time, was meant to be a farewell to SPN fandom (HA HA HA). Although it’s clunky in places, a lot of love went into that story and there are some scenes I’m really happy to have captured in words.

5. Is there any fic that makes you super happy to reread and remember you wrote that?

This changes a lot, and depends on my mood! I can vacillate between loving to reread a particular fic and being so embarrassed by the same fic that I don’t want to remember it exists at all. Right now, though, the fic that makes me cackle in self-indulgent glee during rereads is my Steve/Tony fic Stick With Me Baby, I’m the Fella You Came in With, which is one of those exercises of writing what you want to read, and is a double-accomplishment in the sense that I’d felt unqualified to write for this pairing for a long time.

7. What’s the fic you most want to continue (unfinished or no)?

This tends to rotate between three: the future timestamps for Not Part of the Plan (augh), another part of that werewolves AU with Dean/Cas (where Cas’ body changes upon his mating with Dean, as was implied to be possible in that ‘verse), and the third part of Biology and Feelings and Stuff where Dean and Cas’ cycles sync up.

17. In your opinion, what’s your most overrated fic?

A disclaimer! I’m really happy with a lot of things I did with this fic, and I’m grateful for the response it’s gotten. But proportionate to the response it’s gotten, is my sense of guilt that I could’ve done better with it. The fic in question is my Dean/Cas Big Bang from 2012, Convenient Husbands, which I feel took more emotional shortcuts than was necessary to make things happen, and I didn’t expand or use the background plot as much as I should have. I appreciate every single kudos and comment, but sometimes I’m like, oh my god I’m so sorry, I could’ve done that better.

18. What’s your most underrated fic?

I reckon this would be an old Heroes fic I wrote years ago (I just checked, it’s almost ten years old!) titled Suburban Lighthouse which was a fusion with the 80s horror movie, Poltergeist. I understand why it got the response it did: (1) it’s horror-based when I’m not great at horror, (2) although it has a slash pairing it’s actually gen, so it likely alienated readers who preferred either, plus (3) it leans way heavily on the reader being familiar with Poltergeist. This is all true.

BUT YOU GUYS!!! I had such a blast figuring out organic points of fusion between the canons of Heroes and Poltergeist, it’s like I wrote an in-joke story to be shared with people who enjoy both canons (which is mainly me, I guess?). Among the fusion bits are like, in Poltergeist one of the paranormal investigators has a nightmare of him clawing his own face, while in my Heroes fusion one of the characters DOES claw their face and it’s CLAIRE, OBVIOUSLY. Also, there’s the thing about who in the Heroes universe is the Beast – it’s obvious, really, as is the reason of the Beast’s interest in the Heroes universe’s version of Carol-Anne.

19. If you had to pick one fic/scene/chapter of your work to describe your entire portfolio to a stranger, which would you pick?

BEHOLD, THE DEAN, DEFINITELY. It’s a self-contained, tight little story, and it showcases my sense of humour and quite a few of my storytelling buttons. It’s like a short story exercise that I feel I did pretty okay with.

21. If someone starts kudosing and commenting your fics in a spree and has a few works of their own, would you go look through theirs?

Not often, but yes, I have done this. Especially if the kudos/comments are on fics which tackle relatively uncommon tropes, because I usually write things that I want to read more of, and…. I want to read more of those things.

25. What constructive criticism, however well-meaning, always makes you feel bad when you see it in a review?

I can usually get something useful out of concrit, but I have problems with endings sometimes, and it can be a punch in the gut to see that pointed out, like when endings are sudden, or the story just peters off weakly. It’s not so much that I dislike concrit – I dig concrit, and can get useful stuff out of it – but the fact that it’s a thing I already know I need to work on, but still haven’t gotten there.

35. Have you ever written a ship into a fic without meaning to?

Not really? Any ships in my fics are there on purpose. Though I some people said they shipped Sam/Anna in Not Part of the Plan, which blindsided me, so maybe that counts?

38. Have you ever purposefully written something you know your readers would find uncomfortable/would not enjoy? If yes, why?

Yeaaaaah I did this with That’s Pretty Nice Timing, which is an AU of my Dean/Cas highschool AU It’s Always the End of the World Somewhere. It does some things that aren’t popular (infidelity, some Cas/other) and ends ambiguously for Dean and Cas, and although I can see them figuring things out down the line, it’s not a strongly shippy ending as it is.

This story is basically part of my thinking that no matter how bad things got for Dean and Cas in the “main” universe due to Dean’s childhood choice, just fixing that choice in an alternate universe wouldn’t automatically mean that Dean and Cas would be happier together. Although what-ifs are part and parcel of fanfic exercises, in this story at least it isn’t and can’t be that neat, and I didnt want it to be.

All good advice! I’d really say the number one thing is to interact with other writers/blogs. Like and reblog their fics, art, and gifs. Comment on their works, past and current on AO3. Send them asks when they reblog an ask meme, then you reblog it so they send it to you! Send fic prompts, but not on Anon...I tend to be much quicker if I know who sent it ;-)

It doesn’t always work, some people won’t read your stuff no matter what you do, but I know I’m eight million more times to bump something up to the top of my TBR pile if it’s written by someone whose name I see frequently!

I'm fairly new to writing fic in the aos fandom, and wondered if you had any tips on how to promote my work? In terms of commonly used tags and any blogs which might promote fic within the fandom. Thanks!

First of all, I want to warmly welcome you! I’m not gonna lie; we are a bit of a messy fandom, and we have our things- most fandoms do-, but all in all, I think we are a good batch, so welcome on board! Now, in terms of what you asked, I hope this can help you a little,

There is @aosficnet2 and it is the very first place to get started, imo. You have to become a member in order to be reblogged, but it’s a really easy process, and @theclaravoyant and @the-nerdy-stjarna are two truly great mods and fellow fans! Once there, you can also participate on its activities that give works extra visibility, such as writing something for one of its challenges or exchanges (works go into a masterpost at the end of them), or in their amazing feature, Writer By Writer.

There is also some networks that cater to specific characters/ships. There is @thefitzsimmonsnetwork (although I think it’s going through a bit of a hiatus as of now?) for Fitzsimmons content (you need to be a member for it, I think). At @leofitznetwork we promote Fitz-centric content without membership; as long as it is in concordance with our policy, you only need to tag your work #leofitznet or #leofitznetwork and we will reblog it! There is also @bsquadbrigade for everything related to minor AOS characters. As of now, it doesn’t require membership and its tag is #bsquadbrigade. There are other networks- I think a Daisy one and a Jemma one, but I don’t know how they work; other ships that come to mind are MackElena and Skimmons and Huntingbird if I am not wrong?-, but I’m not part of them. Followers, any suggestions?

As far as tags go, #aosfic is pretty widely used. I usually tag also “(ship/brotp/character)” and “(ship/brotp/character)fic”. Eg.: #fitzhunter and #fitzhunterfic. For Fitzsimmons in particular, the tag is #fsfic (and #fstag for other content).

Also, and this is more of a general fandom advice, but I always recommend writers to interact with other writers. Read their stories in AO3, and leave a comment. Reblog their posts with cute tags. We are kind to our kin, and chances are high that some of them will pay back the favor.

Finally, please feel free to send me your stories, and I will gladly read them and comment on them and pimp them. I don’t believe there is shame in self-promotion and in fact, I adore when people send me things they think I will like. Not that I’m big in the fandom or anything, but if it helps… :)
