I illustrated 100 ASoIaF Characters

" A Song of Ice and Fire" is a series that has become rather (in)famous for its depictions of violence, and abundance of s3x scenes .and while criticism can definitely be made for these, it's important that we dont end up overlooking the important life lessons, nor end up with wrong takeaways from the story.

you see, at its very heart , i believe ASOIAF is a story of the human experience, as well as a commentary about the twisted ways of this world ( set within a fantasy backdrop). being caught in the middle of loyalties, ambition, Reputation, vengeance, culture, faith, and familial acceptance . its themes like this along with complex and relatable characters that youll pity and root for in one scene, only for you to be appalled by and flinch at in the next scene, is what i find so appealing in this series.

Spectacle, Political Intrigue and Character Drama (all present in the story too btw) aside , its a story that really makes you think ,reflect , and learn upon. and i love it for that!

so today , i just wanna show my appreciation to arguably the best aspect of this series: The Characters . for over a year now, i have made fanart for 100 characters from the series. some are major pov characters. some iterally appear for only 1 chapter. but all help bring so much depth and color to this story!

Make no mistake, SEVEN and 3D are singing about the same thing. If SEVEN was in your face, 3D is subtle. But they are both just talking about sex here. Which is why it doesn't make sense to me why people are so upset??? As a person who likes Harlow and has heard his songs before, this did not shock me one bit. There is nothing wrong with this song. It is meaningless and shallow but guess what, thats the type of music the GP is listening to rn. I understand why Asians have an issue with this line

The people behind the song and JK himself are not going to okay something degrading. So it is of my opinion that people are reading too much, way too much into something that aint even meant to be deep.

So Batwheels is really fucking good, actually.

I wasnt expecting shit of this show but its actually well made. The songs are actually REALLY good. Especially "Harmony" and "Tough Buff" are stuck in my head!!

Tough Buff is BY FAR one of my favourites. I love how the show constantly variates between genres and tries new themes and music styles instead of the same bouncy electropop. Tough Buff is with coutry electric guitar and it sounds like something Morgan Wallen would sing imo. Like its such a good song! I LOVE the chorus especially.

Same with Harmony. The chorus is AMAZING and the voice actors sing absolutely beautiful. I love it when you can hear voice actors enjoy their work and put their heart into the script. They genuinly bring these computer animated characters to life. Thats what happens in Batwheels.

The next song, "Roll with the Changes" is also a favourite of mine. Its bouncy, fun and happy despite being the main score in a sequence where a character (Bam btw) is chasing one of his tires through Gotham while also having to prevent Prank from pulling a shitstunt.

The songs in this show are so original. I really have to stop underestimating kids shows because i was SO wrong about Batwheels i cannot believe it. I gotta say i'm BLOWN AWAY BY BATWHEELS. I expected it to be some sort of Paw Petrol with talking batman vehicles but its actually this original educational show and it approaces some very serious topics. One time Redbird feels unheard in the group and he thinks his voice and opinion doesnt matter. One time the Batwheels give Buff a nickname he actually really doesnt like and they continue to call him by it and because Buff has trouble speaking out about it he ends up driving off. Bam has numerous times where he's insecure about his role as a leader. Batwing jumps into a lot of situations she thinks she can handle herself, but she turns out to need some help. Bibi is insecure about her image multiple times and cares a lot about how people see her. These characters have problems and issues and they work on themselves and I LOVE IT SO FUKIN MUCH!!! This show handles topics i have seen multiple times before way better then i thought! Insecurity, trouble speaking, fears, feeling pressured, feeling alone, feeling like you can't ask for help, not liking something about yourself, taking care for yourself and giving yourself a break...

There is an episode about body insecurities-

THIS SHOW IS A GODDAMN ACHIEVEMENT!!

I hope for a next season, because this shit is fire. Song are good, characters are good, voices are good, animation is good, show is really good! If youre a parent, caretaker or big bro/sis of any young kids, i HIGHLY recommend this show. Its very educational, its good looking, it has beautiful colorful animation that isnt too flashy, there are no really violent fights, characters are very well designed and have good voices, its more then enough to keep kids busy :D

Also the bad guys are called The Legion Of Zoom. Yes, i in fact am willing to say how much i really love that name but i will not bc this blog is already an essay about a preschool show.

AAAAHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ASK NEVER APOLOGISE I LOVE IT

- Nico IS forced into family star wars marathons, but doesn’t mind it bc he thinks Annakin is cute. I also think Han and Leia were Fin’s bisexual awakenings, although he didn’t know it at the time. When he first saw Star Wars he didn’t know he was a boy, and so when he saw Princess Leia In The Gold Bikini he thought “oh shit am I a Lesbian” and honestly we’ve all been there.

- There are a lot more Apollo kids now, and so Finley was never under a lot of pressure at Camp. When he goes on the quest, he’s suddenly the chief healer, they’re in constant danger, his friends are getting lightly stabbed, his parents aren’t around, and he’s suddenly put in control of their health. It’s a big shift for him and he struggles to cope with the drastic change. Will will definitely have strong feelings about this, and the fact that children are still being sent on dangerous quests and the cycle isn’t broken is a big theme in the fic. There’s a whole argument of “who is better to send on the quest: retired demigods who have been through enough shit for ten lifetimes or literal children”

- Apollo absolutely ADORES him. He is that grandpa that loves his grandkids so much and always gives them sweets and listens to them talk about their interests and shows up to their piano recitals. Not many demigods live to adulthood, and even then not many choose to have kids, so Apollo absolutely spoils him rotten and is also super protective of him.

- As for Hades- Finley doesn’t visit the underworld very often but when he does he is treated like a Prince. Hades and Persephone love to have him over for dinner and he has his own room in their palace. Hades doesn’t really know how to interact with him most of the time but he tries his best (zombie chauffeurs are still his best tactic). “The Ghost Prince” is very much revered by most of the souls in Hades’ kingdom.

- Apollo also adores Olympia and Isabella (but I’ll make a separate post about their lore)

- He is also loved my his Auntie Hazel. He was kinda worried about explaining the whole trans thing to her but she understood it instantly, and then went on a whole rant about how escalators make no sense. Frazel’s kids only show up a bit in the fic bc they’re a bit younger and are currently training in the Legion. He has a good relationship with them. Isabella is also very close with them bc she lives in New Rome, and they laugh about the whole “my mom kissed your great-great grandad one time” thing. Finley also has a good relationship with his Uncle Frank, who bought him his bow and teaches him archery stuff.

- He’s been to Camp eight years in a row, including the time the fic is set. He’s been going since he was six. He was kinda nervous at first and timid and shy, but he slowly started to feel more confident and at home there, especially after he came out as trans. As a legacy of two gods, he’s allowed in both the Apollo and Hades cabins. He mostly hangs out with the Apollo group when doing activities but if he ever feels like sitting at a quieter table at lunch he goes to the Hades table. He also does some of his group activities with Oly and Isabella and the other Big Three kids (although there aren’t that many), and is technically speaking senior counsellor of Hades cabin so can sit in on meetings.

- He loves training, especially with his friends. He also loves music lessons and capture the flag. He hates anything to do with physical touch. I am also touch averse and I HATED PE as a kid, especially when playing things like rugby or football. Because of this, he’s not very physically violent and prefers to attack from afar with his bow.

- He loves Mythomagic and Star Wars. He’s also kind of into fashion and likes to experiment with clothes that give him gender euphoria. I know he plays music but I’ve yet to decide what instrument (I’d say either Piano or Bass but I’m incredibly biased as those are my instruments). He can also sing really well, but doesn’t really like the sound of his voice. I imagine once he’s grown up and able to take testosterone, he’d get into singing more and more as his voice got deeper. I also think he’s a fan of mcyt and the Hermitcraft/Life series (although how that would work without internet idk). He also likes to cook, and him and Isabella take turns cooking on their quest.

In your reblogs of my other post you asked about my Isabella x Finley hcs and so I’d like to share them here (they are technically canon but I don’t think I can fit them in my fic so they just exist in my head right now):

- First of all, they do end up dating by the end of the fic. Both of them have had massive crushes on each other for a while, but are too awkward to say anything, and the only one who knows about it is Olympia, who is begging them to get together and put an end to the constant pining.

- They’re a straight passing couple, but they’re both bisexual

- Aside from his dads, Isabella and Olympia were first people he came out to as trans.

- Isabella speaks Spanish and Finley speaks Italian, but since the languages are like 82% similar they have this game where they tell each other things in their respective languages and try to understand what they’re saying. Sometime Isabella slips into Latin to mix things up.

- This also gives a change for some solangelo/valgrace bonding as parents. They are all thrilled for their kids and insist on inviting them over for family board game night. I think Jason and Nico are trying to one-up each other as to who can be the prouder parent.

- Soon after they start dating, their periods sync up, which is hell for both of them, especially Fin. But they make each other herbal tea and hot water bottles and take care of each other.

- They first say “I love you” when Fin comes to Isabella feeling very dysphoric and just asks her to distract him and she’s like, “sure. I’m in love with you”

- One time there’s a big ballroom dance at Hades’ palace and the Di Angelo-Solaces are cordially invited as members of the royal family. Finley asks Isabella if she can come and she’s like “YES!” And goes all-out, dressing like a gorgeous goth princess fit for the Ghost Prince. They dance. It’s beautiful.

- Isabella lives in New Rome, but Finley stays in New York. After a while Will has to step in and stop him from sun-travelling to the bay area every day because it is burning him out, and so Isabella arranges to fly over on Festus to see him.

- When he’s finally old enough to get top surgery, Isabella and Olympia are by his side supporting him and take care of him while he’s in recovery. Your honour I love them sm.

For example, he doesn't visit taverns that frequently anymore and makes sure to stay out of fights as much as possible whenever the two of you end up going.

That also applies to sailing out at sea with him. Ofcourse he lets you come with him since you insisted, but with you he tries to stick to waters where the ships aren't as formidable as a frigate or a Man o' War: Mostly some schooners and brigs.

But!! That doesn't mean he will become a pacifist towards enemy ships whenever you're on board. Hint hint wink wink

I don't see Edward as big fan of PDA, but whenever he does anything like it, it's subtle, like little kisses on your face and wrapping an arm around you. He prefers to keep everything more than that behind closed doors and away from prying eyes.

Besides physical affection, he likes to spoil you with gifts sometimes, like beautiful clothing or accessories if you're interested in these, or some treasures he finds from shipwrecks and convoys, or perhaps other kinds of trinkets that you like or that remind him of you.

Hello! I'm working on a presentation for my library's training day about Reader Advisory tools for a new generation. I was wondering, what tools do your library staff use for recommendations? They asked me to focus on YA in particular but I also want to look at more contemporary tools (Storygraph etc.). Thank you for any suggestions!

Of course, we have our Tumblr here. And since our posts aren't responding to actual requests for specific types of books, our reader's advisors just post about whatever they liked - so our posts are all personal recommendations from people who have read the books. Maybe it can be a reader's advisory tool for other librarians! Though they would have to contend with Tumblr's search function...

When we do need to find a rec for someone looking for a good read with specific criteria, and assuming we don't have a good rec off the top of our heads, that's when we pull out the toolkit.

The main tool we use is Novelist Plus. It's an EBSCO tool - here's their product site . It's basically a really specific search engine. You can find author readalikes and even search based on themes like fake relationship, isekai, magical girl, marriage of convenience, etc etc - basically AO3 tags for published novels! Patrons can use Novelist Plus to search by themselves, but many of them do find it difficult to use. Our staff are trained, though, and it's a good tool for when someone asks for a genre or trope we're unfamiliar with.

We also use fantasticfiction.com because it's the easiest way to find info about series. They keep it up to date, and that's the most important thing with a reader's advisory tool!

Those are the main ones staff mentioned. Of course we'll also take a look at Goodreads, Storygraph, and general search engine results if we need to.

hello ! welcome to my writeblr, a community to which i am new, though i am not new to writing in the slightest! my name's morgan, i'm 21, and i use she/her pronouns. i dabble in different writing styles based on a story's themes and/or characters, but i tend to write more poetic and flowery prose because i'm like that. and it's fun! demanding, but fun.

i'm a writer of both original fiction and fanfiction, mainly focusing on character studies. i usually keep my writing pretty realistic, enjoying a more slice-of-life approach, but i'm down to explore anything that interests me. i love writing about the human mind and anything that stems from that, particularly angst, but any triggering themes on this blog will be tagged accordingly!

a goal of mine is to get better at creating interesting original characters and fleshing them out. i have a lot of trouble creating ocs i actually like ( hence why i usually write fics ), but i'd really like to get better with this! i also want to write more than i do and get comfortable sharing my work to a more active audience. connecting with other writers is also something i deeply crave, so don't hesitate to interact! i'd love to read your stuff!

- zami: a new spelling of my name by audre lorde - an “autobiomythography” & maybe thee most formative book for me, in terms of wlw reading. i read it for university and it changed me as a person, changed the way i look at loving women. it’s beautiful

- nightwood by djuna barnes - if you like the more unsettling aspects of picnic at hanging rock, something lynchian and modernist, this is a dark and heavily abstract lesbian novel which i really love

- our wives under the sea - a really poignant and lovely soft sci-fi depiction of a wlw relationship, themes of grief, identity, loss etc. some compare it to annihilation though expect much less science fiction

- her body and other parties by carmen maria machado - a lovely (probably my favourite!) collection of short stories which often are wlw-centric or have a vibe. stunning prose in general

- hera lindsay bird by hera lindsay bird - wlw poetry, very fun and contemporary, what i call self-aware poetry

- mary oliver’s poetry!!!

- for biographies, anything about tove jansson….

- anything by virginia woolf will fit the not explicitly stated vibe feeling - mrs dalloway has a really wistful lesbian undercurrent, orlando is a love letter to vita sackville-west. etc. etc.

movies:

- persona (ingmar bergman) - thee movie. it’s Not explicitly stated, it’s feverish and desolate, but it’s both intensely homoerotic and a searing exploration of identity, existential dread etc.

- mulholland drive (david lynch) - again, unsettling vibes. not even gonna elaborate on it - it’s a david lynch - but it’s a must-see

- passing (rebecca hall) - a moody, poignant and beautiful adaptation of nella larsen’s novella (which is on my to-read list) about a relationship between two women

- the favourite (yorgos lanthimos) - recently rewatched with a friend, no notes. a bizarre, obsessive, thrilling story. rachel weisz is to die for in it

- kajillionaire (miranda july) - a tender and strange (affectionate) depiction of a bond between two women in unexpected circumstances

- thoroughbreds (cory finley) - what if murder was homoerotic, what if murder was a metaphor. in a way this is about every codependent friendship between girls that has ever veered towards obsession

- vita & virginia (chanya button) - a biopic abt virginia woolf and vita sackville-west specifically, people have very mixed feelings on it but i personally love it to bits.

tv shows:

- black sails - anne and max’s storyline in black sails is the most visceral and lovely wlw story i’ve seen in tv or film… there are specific tws i would heed for max’s arc in the first season which i’d be happy to elaborate on, but their story is beautiful

- first season of killing eve is still unmatched 😔 second is still quite nice, if not as good. third is hm. the ending scene has whimsy to it. never watch the fourth.

things my gf loves that i still haven’t read/seen:

- portrait of a lady on fire - i just know it will Get to me so i’m waiting for the right mood to watch it

- this is how you lose the time war by amal el-mohtar & max gladstone - same reasoning!

things i’ve started but haven’t had a chance to finish yet:

- little blue encyclopaedia (for vivian) by hazel jane plante - a beautiful (but sad, and also about grieving, hence it’s taking me a while) trans wlw story. quaint and quiet and wistful.

A Review Of Ellipsus

A Pillowfort mutual of mine (trishelle) recommended Ellipsus ( @ellipsus-writes ) earlier this month in a blog post. It's an online writing program that is currently in beta. Thanks to trishelle's recommendation, I decided to feel it out, mainly using one of my novel WIPS (as you can see in the screenshot titling this post).

So far, I'm enjoying it! The fact that there's a chat for contributors for each document is a cool feature that I'm hyped to fully utilize someday. I also like the focus mode; it reminds me of Cold Turkey Writer, which is a good thing. I also love the themes a lot (they just came out 3 days ago, apparently, which I wasn't aware of when I started this review)! My favorite is the sepia one, as you can see in the picture.

Ellipsus also has a very strong anti-AI stance, which is a refreshingly concept compared to, say, Microsoft Word, which currently screams at me to use its stupid AI (Copilot) every fucking time I open a new document. AUGH!

My main complaint: my understanding is that you need an Ellipsus account to comment or leave chats, and I wish guests (people without an account) could comment & leave chats. If that was the case, I'd use it way more. This is because atm, I use Google Docs for my game scripts because most folks have a Google account, and that makes leaving feedback easy for any co-writers & contributors. If I'm wrong about needing an Ellipsus account to comment or leave chats in a document btw, PLEASE correct me, because that would be amazing news!

There's also no "Suggest" mode like there is in Google Docs or Microsoft Word, which is another thing that's proven essential to me in collaborations. Another thing that, if they added it, my use of Ellipsus would definitely increase.

Also a small thing but essential to me because I write a lot of scripts that get voice acted: there's no highlight tool and I NEED IT DESPERATELY. Glass half full, you can change the text color, so that is at least something.

Finally, Ellipsus can only be used online as of right now, and can only be accessed via online access (going to the website). There's no app you can download or any kind of offline mode. This is probably the biggest reason I can't make it a primary program of mine right now, because I'm always writing, online & offline, and rely on apps native to my device to help me get down what's in my head. You can pin Ellipsus to the home screen of your browser at least, so that's a good thing, but it's not enough. I was wrong! There is an app you can access, because you can pin Ellipsus to your app screen! But there's still no offline mode.

There are other things I could mention, like the lack of image support, but Ellipsus seems to be aware of it, at least from this help article I saw when importing my novel. I'm sure they're fully aware of the need for a mobile app, too--heck, it's one of the most requested features people are asking for. People also seem to want a highlighter as well (yay!). As much as I mentioned complaints in this blog post, I have to give credit that Ellipsus seems to be aware of these things, so hopefully they will appear in the future.

So yeah, that's my review! I was originally just planning this to be a tweet or two, but I ended up having a lot to say! If you use Ellipsus, what are your thoughts on it?
