FABLEHAVEN MOVIE IS REAL??? oh my god that is my FAVOURITE book series. please god I hope it ends up being good <3
(I'm keeping my expectations very low of course lmao, I've been burned wayyy too many times by bad movie adaptations. but honestly I'll just be happy if it brings more people into reading the book series!!
other than one or two things (*cough cough the horrific disaster of Brackendra cough cough*) it's such a SEVERELY underrated series and one of the only childhood favourites of mine that has actually held up enough that I enjoy rereading it to this day!!!) (also hands-down the best inclusion of indigenous peoples into worldbuilding that I've ever seen, which is really cool!!)

i have all these draft documents of half finished fics full of lines i love but that are so fundamentally flawed i can't figure out how to finish them and can't kill my darlings mercilessly enough to get past the roadblocks so i just reread them over and over and think damn this is kinda fire. wish it was anywhere near shareable.
#UGHHHHH 10k allydia fic full of dead end plotlines that lives in my google drive you will always be famous to me and me alone#allison is resurrected and i have this short bit about the five stages of grief vs the five stages of decomposition but idk if i can keep i#bc it works better if allison was dead longer. but i LIKE those lines............#i have like the barest of bones for like 6 different parts of the tw hunger games au fics......#scott one is at 4500k but i decided a while ago i need to change one of the main plot points and it's killing me bc that's like 90% of it#but i like the writing and it's like three scenes from completion!! but i can't bring myself to be happy with where i brought the plot 😔#SICK AND TWISTED!!!!!!!!!!#the tua fic that is my white whale..... reverse robins plot points plan and like four different false start documents......#the robins ghost au i never figured out a plot for....... the tommy dies instead of barb au........ THE JASON CARVER TIMELOOP STORY.......#i really like the opening i wrote for the jason time loop but that's all i wrote bc i realized i'd have to figure out a plot and rewatch s4#and like. :/ idk if i'm willing to do all that. for jason carver?? well.#i have this criminal minds fic where reid gets the flu bc he refuses to get vaccinated bc he's terrified of needles after georgia#and jj shows up to check on him bc she's also dealing w the georgia anniversary so she's desperate for proof of life#and it's like 80% done but i stopped super caring about cm a few years ago and now every time i remember it i'm like :/#i could spruce that up and post it if i really wanted to! it's not bad at all! but will i ever do that.........#OH MY GOD the like 4k i wrote from the POV of this girl stalking reid?? like i wanted to do a casefic from the unsub's perspective#i forgot about that one i was really invested in it for a while actually did a lot of research and really tried to make her sympathetic#shoutout to the random extra from that episode w jason alexander who i decided was gonna be Gwen The Stalker <3#throwback to my criminal minds era that was wild#anyways truly it is the allydia one the twthg xovers the reverse robins and the tua longfic that haunt me constantly#i always cycle between thinking about one of them on and off

fic rec friday 58
hello and welcome to fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.
The Value of a Moment by @a-fools-errand
When Lance’s previously obsolete skills in language suddenly become very useful, he finds himself wondering why aliens can’t account for the fact that humans, particularly him, need sleep and would prefer linear timelines. (Or: an Arrival AU because I love that movie)
yall OBSESSED does not begin to cover it. i have never read a fic where lance was so goddamn cool. and in like. the insanest of ways?? like of course lance is a polyglot but THIS....this is a whole new level. i havent even finished it fully yet but like god this thing is so fucking cool. if ur looking for a longfic stop looking
2. Rest Stop by @flaming-potato-arsonarson
Lance wasn't like the rest of the world. And he had never had a loving mother tell him it made him stronger for it. So he told himself, gathering up his courage and grit to face a world of winged humanity, when he, in fact, has no wings and turns into a mermaid instead. A world that wants him to die. So he'd keep this secret like a knife in his boot, a sharp weapon until he died on his own terms. Not because of who he was. Except, Team Voltron isn't so sure why Lance is all rough edges and sharp points about showing off his wings. Or acting like a member of the Flock in general. It's clear he cares for them, but he's never shown an intimate part of him. Until he has to.
oh god this has gotta be one of my CLASSIC fics. read it a few dozen times. i read it right when it came out, six ish years ago (goddamn), i can remember curling up in my old bunk bad and eating this up as the hours ticked by. i was HOOKED. my jaw was dropped my eyes were glued. could not get enough. if youre looking for mermaid lance with a twist....brother this is it
3. Looking for Rain by @thewriter2
Like most things, it starts with the little things: his smile, his confidence, his talent. Eventually, all these little things add up to one big thing that threatens to crash over them like a heavy rain. But, maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing. Maybe something beautiful would come from it. A 5+1 (really a 10+1) of Lance and Keith falling in love.
oh god guys..... @thewriter2 knows how to fucking haunt you. if a 10+1 (!!) isnt enough for you, i want you to know this line has been echoing in my head since i first read: "He looks at you like you’re a storm and he’s a desert desperate to drown." UM??? EXCUSE ME???? SIMILE OF ALL TIME ACTUALLY???? keith being so so visibly obviously in love with lance is my actual roman empire shit never leaves my mind
4. Astronauts by @thewriter2
When they entered the Blue Lion, Keith was Lance’s rival--the person Lance was working so hard to surpass. But slowly, Lance found himself thinking of Keith less as a rival and more as something close to a friend. So of course, Lance’s traitor of a heart decided that it would be Lance’s kind of friend that it would fall in love with.
tags to sell you: "keith is a dork but lance loves him anyway" (dorky keith my beloved), "hunk is an a+ friend" (yes he is), "lance is a lovesick fool" (yeah), and "allura is older sister goals" yes yes YES you get it. and like....while keith pov is my favourite to write by far, lances pov as he realises he is in love....that will always hold such a special special place in my heart
5. his own worth by frogsterz
In the middle of the conversation, Lance stops talking and no one notices. It’s not like he had been leading the conversation, for he hadn’t been, but somehow the fact that his lack of input or opinion isn’t noticed tightens the grip loneliness has on his heart. He looks down at his food, his face burning, his throat tightening up.
now usually anything but team as family isnt my deal. im not big on classic langst. but keith as a knight in shining armour.....what can i say i am weak willed. deeply. also " It’s what made it worse. I miss home and I miss being held and the rain, and I loved you. I thought you hated me." got me so bad got me WEAK like i have never recovered from that line and i doubt i ever will
that’s it for today!! i’ll see y’all back next friday for the next fic rec post!!!

happened upon this article today, and damn if it didn't get me thinking
i've wondered a lot before about how the same story can be told through different mediums [which primarily can be seen through adaptations] but one thing i don't spend enough time thinking about is how the same story can be told through different word counts
i know people always are like 'a story is as long as it needs to be' but...is it?
i've technically run this experiment a few years ago, with Regrowth at exactly 100 words and Reduce, Reuse, Regrow at over 6000. honestly, it was kind of a fascinating experiment because....are they the same story? really? i guess at their core, you could argue that the plot is the exact same. tldr: giorno turns drug dealers into flowers. and that happens in both versions.
but there is no character in the drabble version, for the OCs and others. we don't get a sense of who giorno is in this story and why he's doing this - all we have to go off of is who he is in canon. we have no idea who tf marco [is that his name? i'm not rereading that to find out LOL] is - versus in the longer version we know about his connection to his family, his botanical garden, the plants he grows, etc. we know about his crush on Sofia. we know that mista saves him, which means giorno thinks he's someone worthy of being saved.
same thing for the police - they don't even get names in the drabble, compared to the names and personalities they're awarded in the longer version.
so...are they the same story?
i've been wondering [and by been wondering i mean i literally thought of this like an hour ago hehe] about how that can apply to other things as well, and this article is a terrific starting point. if you write your longfic as a oneshot, you have to pare down everything that 'doesn't matter' - which i'm using loosely, because as we've established, there are things important to a story that aren't just plot events. but you get such a clear distinction: what are the subplots vs the main plot? who are the side characters vs the main characters? if you have multiple antagonists, who is the one who drives the story primarily? without whom the story cannot exist any longer?
i wonder too if this, in a way, can kind of call back to the snowflake method - which i admittedly have never used but can see how it would be helpful. if you start small, let's say you write your story as a drabble. double it, and double it again. a few more times, and you have something short story length. then novella length. then novel length.
it could also be a way to literally build your story up piece by piece. okay, so you need a couple thousand more words. sure, you could just add a bunch of fluff or 'filler' - or, you could add in a subplot. you could add in a character that is integral to the story. and if you go the other way - from novel to drabble - and can't write a short story without that character, then you know how important they are.
in this way, you can kind of pare everything down to its barest bones, actually. character motivations, stakes, setting.....everything is tied together, which means changing one changes them all.
maybe at some point, you literally get to a point where you can't add anything else - and maybe that's where the story is as long as it needs to be. vice versa, too.
i will run this experiment a few more times and report back o7

please tell me more about your DID fic! don't really read much 1d but i've looked for it in the 5sos fandom ever since luke released his first solo album (idk if yk anything i'm talking about here, anyway) super curious as to what you're writing bc it's so. there's so much potential for good representation and any character inspired by louis tomlinson i feel like I would like
hi! i forgot i even mentioned it on here, i actually have no idea what i said so ill just give a bit of a summary of it. im not in the 5sos fandom, just 1d for me, but i do wanna get into 5sos more.
my louis DID fic isnt posted yet, im still writing an outline because i want to post huge chunks of it at once, if not the whole thing. im working on 2 longfics that are being posted right now, so the plan is to space it out somehow so im not actively posting 3 longfics at once.
the AU is a boarding school for young singers. i got super carried away designing a school, its a 5 year program for ages 13-18, and the fic will mostly take place during louis' 3rd year. he does go home for weekends and holidays though, which is important for plot reasons.
i set the AU up so that i can essentially use the fic to write about my life in various ways. i have, coincidentally, archived vents in my writing app that go back to 5 years old, so im drawing from major events that happened to me in those old vents to create events for louis. im planning to trickle in the PTSD and dissociative symptoms, until it comes to a head and louis gets put in therapy.
(unlike me, louis is getting a good parent and a bad parent, instead of just a bad parent. he gets a happy ending, so the good parent will be the one putting him into therapy)
i have more plans for the plotline after he starts therapy, but thats more of a surprise :3 the fic is also gonna include larry, so theres that, too.
the original inspiration for writing louis specifically is that one clip of him talking about how his own documentary was "mostly a surprise" to him because of his shit memory. i wrote it down a while ago as a little fic idea, but it became a bigger AU idea and now a long outline of the first few chapters.
its also just a really cathardic vent fic, to be honest. i dont write vent fics often, i usually write fluff, but writing the outline so far has given me a chance to look at situations in my past from an outside perspective, which has been really useful.

New Things I Tried: uh, some exploration of generally darker themes (at least compared to what my reading/writing experience in the tolkien fandom was last time a few years ago), writing new ships i was not into previously. Also writing/reading about a wider range of canon characters im not as obsessed about and making making more in-depth linguistic hcs/lore.
Fic I Spent the Most Time On: instinctively i would have said the daemags 51k one bc of the sheer amount of time i spent daydreaming about it, but i think it's actually the darkness got a hold on me (Maedhros/Maglor/Daeron; 7k) bc i wrote a terrible first draft, finished my second draft distracted while on a voice call and then re-wrote the entire thing for the final draft that i must have double-checked for typos at least like. 5 times before i posted it bc i wanted to make sure the plot and emotions made sense.
Fic I Spent the Least Time On: that should be back from the edge, i think i wrote that like. half an hour before i posted it with barely any read-back for typos and stuff.
Favourite Thing I Wrote: that is definitely the gold and the rust, which is an extremely self-indulgent monster of a fic and i really like how the prose i experimented with came out. but i have to say that tale of tinúviel is a close second because i did not expect to have so much fun with that one.
Favourite Thing(s) I Read: um, oh god. so much stuff. i think ive read entire tags since getting back into the fandom, it's a truly insane amount of fics that i could not possibly list everything here, but im going to make an indicative list with my top 5 that i've re-read the most throughout this year.
Concerning Lace by @clothonono; such a fun exploration of the family dynamics between the finwians during the Years of the Trees. i love all the cousins and siblings trying to get along
Mockingbird by @littlewhitemouseagain; really fun fic and really fun maedhros and maglor dynamic. i love maglor in this one
i've been so worried (you've been so still) by @welcomingdisaster; maglor in one of my favourite eras of him! i've grown so unreasonably fond of Ellind
The Sun Must Go on Rising by @tilion-writes; aroace maedhros has my entire heart and his friendship with fingon in the context of the (twist of the) myth here is. so good
lungs full or roses, heart full of thorns by anon; i have a soft spot for hanahaki fics and this is a maemags hanahaki fic. i recced to someone before it even finished it
and also a honorary mention of A Thread Unraveled by @theheirofashandfire, because it was on my marked for later list for three years and reading it started the tumble that landed me back in the tolkien fandom. a good time-loop is perhaps my most favourite trope.
Writing Goals for 2025: nothing super coherent; i never start out with planned-out goals because the existence of a goal inevitably leads me to failure. i'd like to get back into writing longfics and perhaps also write the post-canon daemags/maglor's wife that's vibrating around in my head.
i have no idea who has done this already so if you have, um. sorry, feel free to ignore the tag. @aredhels, @vryivs, @thescrapwitch, @polutrope, @welcomingdisaster, @melestasflight, @elvinye, @sallysavestheday

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers!
I was tagged by @zipegs. Thank you, Hunter! These were interesting questions to think about.
Tagging: @needcake and @dr-fumbles-mcstupid! No pressure on either of you, but have at if you'd like.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
198! Hetalia really upped the work count out of all my fandoms, but I also crossposted a lot of my better Yu-Gi-Oh fics from my days back on FF.net. I've still got a huge amount to crosspost from LJ, DW and tumblr though.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
998,583. It's taken me 14 years on AO3 but my next fic update is going to finally take me over a million words and I'm so excited!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
My main fandom right now is Hannibal (and the associated HEU), but I'm also working on some uber long Hetalia works in the background. (The latter won't see the light of day until they've got a substantial amount done for them.) I started out posting fic online with Yu-Gi-Oh, then Death Note and Yuri on Ice. I've also worked on a lot of fics for CLAMP's works, primarily Tsubasa, Cardcaptor Sakura and XxXHolic.
4. Top five fics by kudos?
Due to the kudos requirement, this is obviously only from my stuff on AO3 (because I actually think an anon work I wrote on a kinkmeme back in the day would also feature here otherwise). 1. Commencer Par La Faim (Hannibal) - 1,470 2. The Lindworm's Lullaby (Hannibal) - 503 3. if(touched by love's own secret)we (Yuri on Ice) - 382 4. Apples (Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles) - 379 5. Heartbox (Hetalia) - 299 The last one completely mystifies me.
5. Do you respond to comments?
I really try to. I've got much better about responding to comments in the past few years, I think, but I'm still more likely to remember to respond to comments on WIP longfics than on oneshots. (Sorry!!!) Lately, I've fallen into the habit of replying to comments on the most current chapter of a multichaptered fic as I'm doing the final edits on the next chapter, because they often prompt me not to forget things. ;;; (So, if you receive a belated reply to your comment on a WIP, I'm likely going to update it soon.) I really do appreciate every comment though, and they've been such a source of inspiration and good feeling over the years. I'm still going back and trying to say thank you to comments left on my works years ago... It's late, but I do want to express my thanks.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Bold of you to assume I ever finish anything. I don't tend to write works that have endings that fall primarily into the angst territory (I don't think!). Bittersweetness, usually. A lot of my hetalia stuff is technically angsty because it's open-ended and based on real history and history sucks. Obviously it's not posted yet, but the ending to Commencer Par La Faim is probably going to get people coming after me with torches and pitchforks. For posted works, I guess I'll go with my first ever completed multichaptered work from my YGO days: Both Sides of the Border. The whole fic is an exploration of love, remembrance and death (as best as I could write it as a purple prose-obsessed 15 year-old).
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Bold of you to assume I ever finish anything x2. Many of my hetalia oneshots fill me with the warm n' fuzzies due to their endings. Yes, this answer is a cop-out.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
None currently, but I have done on multiple separate occasions in the past.
9. Do you write smut?
I do, but it doesn't come to me easily at all. I wish I was a better smut writer and I'm really working on it, but I still don't think my current stuff is up to where I want it be. People seem to enjoy it though, so I must be doing something right? At least a little?
10. Craziest crossover?
...Sorry, I'm blanking. I wrote YGO/Harry Potter back in the day, and I've Daemon AUs all over the place (His Dark Materials). CLAMP fanworks are all, technically, huge crossovers.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Once, a YGO piece I'd rather not mention now. My concepts have gotten ripped off a bunch over the years though - which I wouldn't even mind, I'm delighted to share my ideas freely (and, hell, not have to write the fics I want to see myself!), but if you're going to use my exact phrasing (and hours of research!) in your work could you at least give me a mention? It's a little hurtful sometimes, but I try not to let it bother me unless it's super overt.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I gave full permission for someone on a private Chinese fanpage to translate any of my engport works into Mandarin, and I know they translated a lot of the oneshots! (Obviously, I can't link you.) athousandnights translated the prancing and pawing of each little hoof into Mandarin. VanessaLocke translated Splinters & Mosaics into Vietnamese. @dr-fumbles-mcstupid/Dr_Fumbles_McStupid is also currently poddficcing my WIP fic, Poems - translating to audio.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! In every kind of way. It's wonderful to do with a friend/someone you have a good rapport with, and it's a good way to develop a friendship, I think. I still find the thought of co-writing with a stranger assigned to work with me nerve-wracking though, and those situations have never worked out terribly well for me in the past. @-@ I'm currently doing a lot of 'alpha reader' work for a few friends. It's the writing part of writing a fic that isn't really putting down the words. (Plotting, pacing, research, editing.) I'm too busy with my own solo work to do any more right now.
14. All time favourite ship?
Haven't got one. I've got my darlings across every fandom I've looked at and written for.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
>> << Honestly, if it's something I want to finish I refuse to doubt that I will finish it. There's always hope.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Writing about food and scents. I've been told I'm pretty good with conveying the senses associated with them pretty well, and I've been scolded frequently by readers for making them hungry with my food scenes! (This is a fantastic source of glee to me now that I'm writing in a fandom where the food is, often, people. Accidentally converting people to cannibalism one fic at a time.) I also think I'm pretty good at writing about clothes - how they look, how they're put on and taken off, the sensation and movement of fabric - and capturing the voices of characters. Also, mostly because of a lot of the above, establishing a setting by sneaking in lore.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Long and extremely complicated sentences. I'm trying to get better at this, but commas, hyphens, colons and semi-colons are my comfort blanket. (Periods? Never heard of her.) The utter inability to shut up. Every fic is longfic these days. ...How incredibly slowly I write.
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
It can be incredibly interesting, scintillating and useful, adding a lot to a fic - in moderation. Dropping huge paragraphs in the middle of your work in a language that isn't the main one you're writing in is just confusing and offputting, in my opinion, but sprinkles here and there offer insight into your worldbuilding and your characters' backgrounds/voices. I do occasionally write characters speaking other languages in my work, but I've usually got to have a good reason for it. I don't always provide translations either - but when I don't, it's also for a reason. XD;;; It's usually either that I'm keeping secrets from the reader, I think the speech is evident given the context, or I want the reader to have the delight of discovering what what I've written means (this usually means it's a funny pun).
19. First fandom you wrote in?
Cardcaptor Sakura - or Cardcaptors, as the dub was called in the UK. I was 8 and got hooked, and got my two closest friends hooked, and I got so upset that it finished I wrote fanfic for it to tie up loose emotional ends in the plot. XD;;; The first fanfic I ever wrote and posted online was for Yu-Gi-Oh, on FF.net. I was 11. The first chapter was up for a week before I read more works and realised how bad a writer I was, and I took it down immediately. My first months in proper fandom were a sharp learning curve!
20. Favourite fic you've written?
I'm gonna be a sappy loser here and say 'everything I've written (even the unposted stuff) for the Gods AU' and Commencer Par La Faim. I'm so glad I worked up the courage all those years ago to approach Eden (@edencomplex) and Hoof (@hoofae) and ask if I could write something for this cool AU they were chattering about and drawing stuff for. I found two wonderful friends and a wider home in a little corner of fandom, and the AU itself really expanded my ability to research things and develop different writing styles. I'm working on more things for the AU now because I really do want to finish it as my, Hoof's and Eden's legacy - and, of course, in Eden's memory. Commencer Par La Faim is a WIP, but I think it's rapidly become a favourite for me because it's the culmination of so many different things. It's brought me friends in the Hannibal fandom. It's a crowning - and bloody good, imo - example of my developed and mature voice as a writer. And it's so fun to work on. I also think it's a fantastic little bite of the a/b/o trope. I've done a lot with a/b/o across fandoms and over the years, and CPLF has really drawn all my scattered thoughts together and, I think, made something really unique amongst all the different presentations of it online. I'm still working on the fic, of course, but I'm proud of what I have achieved with it so far and I believe it will continue to be beloved to me.

Answer the Questions and Tag 5 Fanfic Authors
thanks for the tag @mosylufanfic <3
1. How did you get into writing fanfiction?
I started reading fanfiction when I was very young, maybe 10-11? and it pretty much immediately made me want to write my own stories. early attempts were... unsuccessful, but I always had a lot of ideas and I just wanted to get them out there... so I did
2. How many fandoms have you written in?
in reverse chronological order: Rogue One/Andor, GoT/ASOIAF, She-Ra, Grisha-verse/Nikolai Series, The Raven Cycle, American Horror Story, Reign, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Twilight
and some I have never published but did write for: The Witcher, Dishonored, Magnificent Century: Kösem
so that's 14 fandoms total
3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?
well, my first attempt was at 14 but I pretty much immediately abandoned that story after posting. I tried again at 16 and have been writing pretty consistently ever since. so it's been more than ten years, almost fifteen
4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?
lately I'm writing more than I'm reading, however in general over the years, it's definitely read. I've consumed so many!
5. What is one way you’ve improved as a writer?
I think my action has gotten better recently? it's still far from my strength but being forced to write some action scenes in recent stories definitely improved that area... who would have thought?
6. What’s the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
I've researched many weird stuff over the years but idk, I'm blanking on specifics
7. What’s your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?
I love it when people yell and curse at me <33
8. What’s the most fringe trope/topic you write about?
idk if I've ever written something truly fringe... actually maybe the dildo fic?
9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?
smut! which is funny because I've spent the last month writing nothing but that. but smut is hardddddd
10. What is the easiest type?
I'm seconding modern AUs, that's my comfort genre, and I'm also very well-versed in anything paranormal
11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?
I switched from Word to Scrivener a few years ago, and I haven't looked back. Word would probably still work, but Scrivener is just very convenient, I can have all the things in one place, and it makes things so easy
12. What is something you’ve been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?
well, sex pollen belonged to this category, but I've just gotten over that! other than that, I've been going back and forth about this apocalypse/zombie exes to lovers longfic for months now, because it's intimidating as hell for many reasons, and it would be a lot of work which I may not have the time for currently, but there's so many parts of it that I love and want to write. mainly this very specific scene that will not leave my brain, but absolutely would not work without the proper background and build-up.... sigh
13. What made you choose your username?
here or on ao3? on ao3, it's wintersend (winter's end) and like. I can't even remember why I picked it. it's so random, I've never used it before and never since. I think it may have had something to do with the fact that I'm a winter child, and I was also into GoT at the time... I genuinely don't know
and here.... hmmm idk if I should tell you guys.... it's very niche, you wouldn't get it

20 Fanfic Author Questions
tagged by @quietwingsinthesky, thanks bug!
1. How many works on AO3?
8 on my current account, 2 on my old one
2. Total AO3 Word Count?
current is 103,882! old account is....over 200k probably
3. Top 5 fics by Kudos
we do not speak of what i wrote when i was 17, so not counting that, it's my joyful rewrite, a really short walten files thing, and my other three lisa fics. my only posted spn fics are really recent so they don't have much lol
4. What fandoms do you write for?
rn i'm like exclusively writing for spn bc the brainrot has consumed me, but i still have a few lisa fic ideas rolling around i might finish someday. i also write warriors fic on occasion. i might write weird lesbian clone fucking for westworld, idk.
5. Do you respond to comments?
mostly! not always, its usually an energy thing. but i deeply appreciate all of them!!!!!!!!!
6. Angstiest Ending?
prrrrobably the weight of us which is just me writing about how brad should not have been someone's father
7. Fic with the Happiest Ending?
joyful ends with buddy and dustin starting a pacifist society which is pretty happy!
8. Do you get hate?
shockingly even when i was writing extremely problematic stuff (not that my current stuff isn't also hashtag problematic lmao) i never got hate! but i definitely ended up on some blocklists Back In The Day (and probably now as well)
9. Do you write smut?
excessively, yes
10. Do you write crossovers?
sometimes, when one wriggles its way into my brain! but usually i just sit and think about them. i have multiple homestuck crossovers (9, madoka magica, portal, lisa (yes i know), ddlc), and i had a really fun idea for an x files/persona 4 crossover lmao
11. Ever had a fic stolen?
not that i know of, but my fic from 10 yrs ago was posted on fucking goodreads? which was weird?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
nope
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
my friend anna and i write shit together sometimes but never anything published
14. All time favourite ship?
oh god. obviously i'm terminally fixated on samifer rn and have been for almost two years, but all time? no idea. i am still insane about chelley and it's been 13 years
15. WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
oh jesus. an insane amount. i had two ideas for 100k+ samifer fics that i'm very iffy about now but i really really really want to write a longfic for my men so. i will keep brainstorming
16. Writing strengths?
i've been told i'm good at pornography 😎 i also think i'm quite good at dialogue bc i'm a big talker
17. Writing Weaknesses?
action scenes, i am dogshit at those. i also have a hard time with showing not telling when it comes to how people are feeling, i think because i myself have a hard time "reading the room" and understanding how people feel. good ol autism
18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?
so as a monolingual person i am not the person to ask, but, from my experience talking to people who speak multiple languages, it's not necessarily uncommon to like, switch languages if you're thinking of a thought that you mostly hear in one language and not the other? idk. it's not something i write, and if i do, i'll probably ask my multilingual pals how they think it's best to go about it
19. First fandom you wrote for?
came up with in my head? winnie the pooh, when i was a little bitty baby. actually written? i told this story a while back in some tags, it was for this water dinosaur movie they played at the local science museum. posted? guardians of ga'hoole or warrior cats.
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
oh jesus. um. honestly i'm not like, that big of a fan of any of my writing? i'm kind of terribly insecure about it. wahoo. but if you like woundfucking i did just post this a few weeks ago and it's fun!
mutuals who write fic are welcome to do this and tag me so i can read your responses! <3

to celebrate 200 followers, here are 20 random facts about me and/or my writing 👇
the first hq fanfic i read was crumbling foundations on ffn, which was posted 10 years ago (oh my gourd) (it's also on ao3)
all my best ideas come while i'm in the shower, eating dinner, or at the gym. so make sure you take care of yourself
atsumu exclusively calls osamu 'scrub' and osamu exclusively calls atsumu 'idiot.' this is deliberate
i love making fic titles, but not chapter titles or synopses
i type in lowercase while online because i spend most of my day writing in proper english and a girl just wants to have fun
my first hq ship is bokuaka
my writing notes can get really deranged. it's funny to read through once in a while
i have an english degree! i went back to school for a library technician diploma because my job sucks and i want to work in a library
i do not start paragraphs with the same letter if they're in close succession. this is deliberate
despite having written three novels (unpublished, but maybe in the future!), i still hate writing longfics
come morning light is the only fic that ever made me cry. i marathoned it all, and afterwards, and my sis asked me, "what, did someone die?" and i started sobbing (this fic is not for the faint of heart, but the writing is extremely impactful and memorable, to this day)
speaking of my sis, we used to have a writing blog together in university. i also used to have my own hq writing blog
iwaizumi is my inspiration for arm muscles (it's because of the scene of him arm-wrestling kyoutani)
i despised inarizaki while reading the manga and every time i got back into hq, i had to remind myself which miya twin is which. guess who got character development (me)
it actually took me 10 years to write a bokuaka fic because it took that long to get an idea for them (WHILE IN THE SHOWER)
i never rewatch the karasuno vs. seijoh match point during season 2 because i literally cry every time (which really sucks since i love oikawa's long set to iwa but...)
i hope, with the second hq movie coming out, i'll like hoshiumi more and write something for him (i fell out of the manga during the kamomedai match and went back because my sis said "something happened to your son") (hinata is my son, talk to me before you ask for his hand in marriage)
i write while listening to synthwave or chillstep. i have a few saved if i want a certain mood, but mostly, i just find whatever is on youtube (since i don't have spotify)
my writing program of choice is microsoft word, but i also use google docs and notion for outlining, brainstorming, etc.
i welcome all asks or messages about fic recs, writing, haikyuu, or anything, so don't hesitate to talk to me <3
on a more serious note, thank you so much for 200! i'm delighted to see how many people see my writing 🥹 no matter if you're here for the writing, the fanfic recs, the writing memes, or anything in between, i'm happy you're here and enjoying my content!
here's to another 100 more! 💖

✨ao3 wrapped 2023✨
Haven't seen this tagging meme around at all yet this year, so I thought I'd start it myself!
2022
Works published: 74, very similar to last year! a bit less but the year also isn’t over yet :D edit: by the time I’m getting around to post this, it’s on 86! Yay!
Wordcount: 118254 I’m happy I made it past 100k! That was my tentative goal and I didn’t think I’d make it with how slow it came along for most of the year, but with flufftober and the events I did manage :D
Kudos: 3184
Hits: 31833
Bookmarks: 267
Subscriptions: 114 and I’m at 157 user subscriptions right now? Who follows my multifandom mess of an Ao3, doesn’t that completely clogg up your email inbox? Maybe I’m just biased bc I rarely check my fandomy email and when I do it’s always a mess xD but I think tag lists on tumblr are so much more useful
Most popular by kudos: Gave myself a Fright, a Mirandy (DWP) fic with 301 kudos
Most hits: same fic, 2404 hits
Longest: lonely hearts on remote roads with 10811 words - Milippa road trip AU my beloved!
Shortest: I wrote nine drabbles (100 word ficlets) this year, they’re the shortest ones :)
Most Comments: my podfic of the Mirandy longfic Jigsaw has 14 comment threads - damn, that’s a year with few comments! In past years the whole top 5 commented on fics had more than that. Oh well!
Fics that made me cry: Grief, a fanfic where I project my own feelings about a dead pet onto Myka, and recording the Jigsaw podfic also made me really emotional a lot
Fics that made me smile: so manyy! For example the Berena fic Happiness surrounded by Snow
gifts:
- the first chapter of ‘Time Dilates’ by @barbarawar as my Bering and Wells gift exchange gift back in February, thanks!
- ‘Blame it on Circumstance’, a wonderful sequel to the fluffy fic @squishmittenficfan made me for the Berena gift exchange in 2022, and another sequel Blame it on Love posted just a few days ago I haven’t actually gotten around to read yet but am already very excited for!
- ‘never borrow Helena’s clothes’, a fic for the Bering and Wells advent by @jesstrel that I have beta read for them :)
I have gifted some fics as well this year, I tend to gift people fics when they helped me with it by beta reading or cheering me on, or when I was writing to someone’s prompt! I know I adore getting gift works on Ao3 and I love to share that happiness :)
collaborations:
Halloween fic and art collab with @thewalkingmeepa, that was fun!
Drunken Considerations, a Bering and Wells collab fic with @lavendelhummel :D first time I made a collab while actually in the same room with the other person xD
Both collaborations and part of an event were the fic & podfic works Where No Flan Has Gone Before (Star Trek humor) with @bookgirlfan and Which Mere Modernity Cannot (modern Dracula) with @artax-risen, and the Bering and Wells Advent Calendar with @lavendelhummel @purlturtle @akittennameddaisy @viharistenno @jesstrel @sallysetonbw @violetren @thiakerrigan @tryingthisfangirlthing that is still ongoing! finished now, I take too long for tagging memes xdxD
events:
- Flufftober (I managed to make something for every single day of the month, yay!)
- Berena advent

Year (and a half-ish) in Review
2024 is officially over now, and I’ve ended the year by uploading my 162nd fic!
I uploaded my first ever fic Her Summoner on July 24th of 2023, and uploaded fics at a pretty relaxed pace throughout the rest of that year.
Then 2024 happened, and I opened the year with multiple months of no uploads save for new chapters being added to my longfic Elegy of a Forgotten Heir, which I then began balancing with other fics as well as the year progressed, before eventually having to shelve it in favor of prioritizing commission work.
I wrote a lot this year, publishing 139 of my 162 fics published since I started writing about a year and a half ago. As for word-count… well that will be fully revealed in some of the images below.
But before that, we have other statistics to comb through!
Tumblr media
First and foremost is my SFW to NSFW ratio, it was actually surprisingly neck and neck for a while until I opened NSFW which completely tipped the scales, solidifying me as definitely a smut author. (It is how I got my start after all.)
Tumblr media
Next up we have fandoms, with a pretty clear bias towards Tellius, FEH, and Awakening. Honestly while those are the top three I had expected, and Heroes is very much inflated by being a great excuse for self indulgent crossovers, seeing that I had written that much Awakening was a bit of a surprise.
Tumblr media
We have another predictable one here, so predictable that I considered leaving it off this post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m going to do a lightning round for both characters and ships, and also include that Petrine/Leanne should have been on that ship list but ao3 is weird about tags I invent sometimes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s an in depth look at my year by year stats, both for how much I’ve written as well as engagement. Regrettably the user subscriptions is a live count, so what it was one year ago is lost to time.
For the last few metrics I’m going to provide links rather than screenshots, as they're on my top rated/most successful fic.
Most kudos, comments and subscriptions: Elegy of a Forgotten Heir
Most bookmarks: Too Big to Swallow
Most read: Beautiful Submission
That’s all I have to share, hopefully this was a fun little behind the scenes look at my work. I’m wishing everyone who reads this an amazing new year.
2024 was hard for me but writing really kept me going, and the fact that not only do other people enjoy reading my work but I’m now paying rent with it is insane to me.
Thank you all so much, here’s to another year of fics. 🖤

It's been a rough few months for making progress on my Eureka longfic (which is the only one I've been working on since the idea hit me almost half a year ago, my sincere apologies to everyone waiting for me to update something else). After an insanely productive August and September, when I wrote a combined 130,000 words, I didn't even quite manage to average 1,000 words a day from October through the end of the year, which is usually my pretend minimum goal.
(My actual minimum goal is 500/day, not average but actually hitting that number or more every day, and I did smash that goal, at least, but I'm still a little sad about not hitting the thousand).
That said, during those months, I resumed my job hunt in earnest, went on a nine-day, 2500-mile road trip, finally got a job after ten months of doing considerably more than full-time caregiving, onboarded a new caregiver to take most of those hours from me (I'm back to only doing 10-20 hours a week, woot!), bought a new car, started the new job, and probably caught COVID, on top of managing all the usual disasters of my household, so. Like. It's understandable, lol.
But that said, I feel like I'm finally getting back on track. Today I finished Chapter 13 (of a currently outlined 17, although I have a feeling it'll probably turn into 18), and I figured out a major thing about the ending that's been stumping me, so I'm pretty happy.
Fun numerology—I recently hit my 1,111th day of writing every day, and the thirteen completed draft chapters of this fic average 11,138 and a half words each. It'd been even cooler if they averaged 11,111, so I'll try to go a little shorter on the back quarter of this fic, but, uhhhh. No promises.
Also based on my recorded word count every day since I started the fic and the current total word count of the doc, I've already deleted over 50,000 words from this fic via editing, rewriting, or entirely cutting scenes.

hellooo, this is from the questions for writers game: 4 (dealer's choice), 10, 17, 30, 40 💌
Hellooooo! Thank you for also always playing these ask games with me 💖💖
4. What detail in [insert fic] are you really proud of?
I'm really proud of all the baking elements in The Big Bloody Bake Off. I've worked in bakeries and candy stores for most of my life so I had some knowledge, but doing a LOT of additional research and incorporating all of it into a fic without it feeling boring or textbook was a bit of a challenge. But I feel like I conquered it fairly well while still allowing the love of the act to bleed through.
10. How do you decide what to write?
I've always loved daydreaming about my favorite shows/characters. Even as a kid I remember going to bed imagining different endings to whatever new Psych or Bones episode aired that week. It never occurred to me until a few years ago that I could actually be writing them down. Now I get these struck-by-lightning moments when I'm thinking about an idea and realize "Oh. There's something here." Then I can't help but feed the muse -- like with the 9k Star Trek oneshot I wrote all because of a trucker hat I saw at the thrift store.
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
Oh god I have several that have been floating in my brain. I've been really getting into Star Trek, and I've had this idea of a pre-Federation Earth vs. Vulcan Romeo and Juliet with Spirk that I think has some teeth if I could just make myself write it.
I typed out a few hunks of a WWDITS/Cyrano de Bergerac fic maybe two years ago that could be fun to someday return to. It would be set around s3, Nandor wanting Guillermo's help to woo Gail, but of course he starts falling for Guillermo instead. (a little bit of a twist on the OG plot but I think I could make it work).
I love writing romcoms. I feel like if any AU makes enough sense and it fits somewhere within that genre then I'm all for it.
For one I've already written, my She Loves Me/WWDITS was *definitely* a niche interest that was written just for me lmaoooo I was like "If no one is going to write this super specific AU based on a 1960s musical that only me and two other people in my life have seen, then it's just going to have to be me."
30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?
I'm gonna be honest and say that most writing feels out of my comfort zone lol. With my painting students I talk a lot about the artist plateau -- the stage when you feel like you're not improving because your taste is greater than your skill. You know WHAT you like to make and what you want it to look like, but you're still trying to figure out HOW. I talk about how it's a frustrating but important step of the artistic process in order to develop your own style and body of work.
And then I sit in front of my computer and forget everything about that lesson and sob in frustration all over the keyboard.
Every fic I've written has challenged me in some way, whether it be stylistically (I wrote a poem and published it anon once that had a unique structure), or creating a specific voice (like younger Guillermo), or more recently outlining basically novel-length stories (like my wwdits Cinderella AU or a Good Omens one I've been working on for over a year 🫠). I feel like all of them have made me a better writer, even if it still feels like I'm not where I *want* to be yet. Each one informs the next.
40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
Yessssss. I love rereading fics. My favorite fics to read are really immersive longfics, and I save all my favorites on my kindle (which has basically become my fanfic device) to return to often. I love digging back into a cozy AU, especially this time of year. (Like HOL for a completely random example..😉)

Ao3 20 Questions
thank you @kagedbird for the tag!! <3<3 i will tag some friends @daedrabait @miraakswhore @somethingscarlet13 @queerbashir if u wanna participate <3
How many works do you currently have on ao3? Currently 25. holy shit, i thought it was more than that lol
What's your total ao3 word count? 98,336. Used to be like 200k before i cleaned out some old works i didn't care for anymore.
What fandoms do you write for? Skyrim and Star Trek TOS & AOS
What are your top five fics by kudos? Sorry Lass, Make Me Feel Mortal, Don't Shut Me Out, Fascinating, and Destroy Rebuild
Do you respond to comments? Sometimes! Honestly it depends on whether or not i'm online and see them. if i don't respond right away it feels rude to respond weeks after the fact, but for repeat commenters or usernames i recognize i try to!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Idk i used to like to emotionally beat up Jim a lot, so probably one of the short stories where i explore all his traumas
What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Sorry, Lass. I originally wrote it in 2015 and i'm fairly certain it ends with a mushy marriage scene.
Do you get hate on fics? Surprisingly, no. I think i got a few rude comments back when i first started, but honestly everyone's been too kind to me.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Hell yeah brother that's what i do!! I love angsty, emotionally charged smut. my personal favorite to write is angry, hatefuck type of stuff. or when they're using it to avoid talking about feelings.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Not that i've ever posted lmao. I don't usually post non canon compliant fics for whatever fandom i'm working in.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Kinda. a few years ago someone let me know that my work had been reposted to a fic site i don't use and one quick message got them to take it down. Also, i once posted a fic as a one off, forgot that i'd done that, and used the same scene much later in a larger story - and some nice commenter on the original let me know that someone had stolen my idea lmao
Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope, never had anyone request that and don't want to do so incorrectly.
Have you ever cowritten a fic? Kind of? an old friend and i used to write separate chapters of our self insert marvel fics and mush them together into one story lol. never posted it anywhere, it was just shared emails and google docs.
What's your all time favorite ship? God, that's hard. probably McKirk. as i've gotten older and unlearned all the internal shame about self inserts it's gotten easier to do a self insert story instead of an established pair.
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Every few weeks i pluck away at my regency au Miraak fic. i don't think i'll ever actually finish it because it's just so big in my head it's hard to get on paper, but i hope i do someday.
What are your writing strengths? I'm very comfortable writing sex scenes. I think that often when the author is uncomfortable about writing explicit sex the reader can really feel it in the story and i put in a lot of work to get over those mental hurdles. i've been told i'm good at characterization, which is awesome! i love getting in a character's head!
What are your writing weaknesses? Very often i find myself bogged down with the need to describe every little scene. it's a major reason i haven't posted a longfic in a while - i want to write these big stories but find myself getting lost in the little details. i also have a terrible habit of editing myself while i'm writing, which just gets me stuck in an unproductive loop.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Since i'm only fluent in English, this isn't something i am confident in. i've written in a few fictional languages for fics before but would probably reach out or suggest another author if a reader wanted something that heavily involved this.
First fandom you wrote for? Twilight babey!!! self insert oc to smooch Edward Cullen when i was a little middle schooler!!! i didn't know what fanfiction was but i knew i had a big ol crush on him.
Favorite fic you've written? not to be cringe on main, but most of my favorites are things that never got published. they're the little things still hanging out in my google docs that i go back to over and over. i rewrote all of star trek into darkness word for word just to make bones and jim kiss, i made a self insert just to smooch skurge after hyperfixating on thor ragnarok, and the weird time a few months ago where i wrote like 40k words of a cowboy romance. i read them often and wish that i'd written more on many of them but i do not read my published works.
thanks to anyone who read my rambling lmao. love you all sososo much, thank you for reading my silly little stories and caring about them. <3<3<3

A recap of 2023
so this is the year I wrote. I wrote more than I have ever done and so I thought it would be nice to look back on 2023 and look a little further back as well.
I used to write fanfic, I think I started about 14 years ago. I am not a native speaker and my English definitely needed some work then. I also have so many qualms about my old writing (I apparently hadn't found out about paragraphs yet), but we all have to start writing somewhere.
I stopped writing little by little, feeling burned out and completely stopped in 2018 (for various reasons). I don't think I wrote anything at all in 2019 or very little. In 2020 I dipped my toes in again with a few oneshots.
End of 2021 is when I started writing again and finally came back to writing Harry Potter fanfic. I started out with a longfic of 70K words! It was a struggle and I think it's like a muscle that wasn't being used. A Guiding Light is the fic that got me back in and I posted it throughout 2022.
And then I started two new fics because I was inspired again. I started posting those at the end of 2022/start of 2023. Knight of Mine and Peverell's Progeny have both surpassed the word count of Guiding Light with ease. It was never my purpose to get to a certain word count, and it is not what I focus on, but going from nearly 0 words in 2020 and slowly increasing, it's amazing to see myself putting out so many words.
And as well this year I focused less on what things I think people want to read and got a little more self-indulgent and it is so rewarding. It really makes me enjoy writing it even more.
My mental health has been shit before and it really took a nose dive in 2018, but this year I finally started feeling like myself again. My anxiety has gotten so much better and in turn I have been sick way less (although I did knock it out of the park at the start of the year with about 5 weeks of various illnesses) so I feel like I can enjoy life more in general. I am not sure if my writing helped me get there or if I am writing more because I am feeling better. All in all, I think writing has been helping me get through various things and it is one of the only things I enjoy doing consistently.
I haven't kept exact track of how much I wrote in the last year but based on my AO3 statistics as they are today (26th of Dec), I think it's safe to say that 2023 has surpassed all the others before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see the majority of what I wrote, 414K of a total 541K, has been posted in the last year. It's crazy to think about. A lot of people found my writing as well this year and it's been so amazing getting that feedback ...as well as crazy paternity guesses with emojis, begging me for horse smut (that is still a no-you know who you are) and bribing me to update early... they really do make my day and some of you are too funny for your own good.
Looking ahead a little, I want to see what else I can achieve in the upcoming year. I am not setting any specific goals for myself other than continuing to work on my ongoing fics and not starting too many new ones (*pushes Pirate AU back under the bed*) Buut I am curious how much writing I actually get up to and so I made myself a little tracker.
Bullet journaling is the only other hobby aside from writing that I seem to be able to do consistently. I just kind of fell out of it in the summer of 2022 and finally picked it back up again for 2024. I think when I wasn't writing, it was a good different outlet for me and I still enjoy it. It simply slipped out of my habits, especially when I moved out on my own last year and I was too focused on keeping up with chores and other stuff. Now I am a little more organised, so I do hope to keep it up. It will also force me to do something else than writing once in a while, which is probably healthy for me.
This tracker looks a little chaotic, I know, but i wanted to get everything on one page. Maybe next year I can tell you exactly how much I wrote.
Tumblr media
And word counts are nice but I think improving is also important and I do feel like I have managed to learn a lot of things this year and I will continue to do so in the coming year. I take great inspiration from other people's writing. I always get inspired when I read an especially good fic (which often ends up with me starting a new WIP, send help) and I discover new ways to put in descriptions or how to phrase something a certain way. And talking to other fic writers on here, or discord, is also where I learn a lot. A ton of you are so talented and it is such a joy to be able to discuss things, pick your brains and get feedback. Sometimes I just learn things by reading along to someone else's discussion. Sometimes you find answers to questions you didn't know to ask!
I also want to thank my beta readers, who have read so many words this year. They are so FAST and then apologise for being slow. I cherish them so much.
If you read up to this point, thank you! If you've read a fic of mine this year, thank you as well. If you left me kudos or comments, recced me... you get a little kiss on the forehead.
If you have achievements of your own this year that you are proud of, do share them! (Reblog or send me an ask, I want to hear about it!) Let's celebrate all the work you put in!
