Fuck it Friday

Chapters 1 & 2 of Rival Firefighters 🚒 are almost done annnnnd I’ve almost finished chapter 4 as well even though I have nothing written for chapter 3, only notes and an outline haha 😅
Buck getting fired in chapter one (just like he does in the pilot episode of season 1) is kinda kicking my ass. I just feel like he goes from “yeah I’ll steal the truck for sex” to “it was wrong to steal the truck for sex” really fast … but I guess losing your job really opens your eyes and puts things into perspective.
Here’s part of the firing scene that I don’t think sucks, so enjoy!
“No, Bobby. Bobby!” He runs in front of Bobby, placing a hand on his chest to stop him from leaving. “I need this job! Look, I love this job. Don't do this to me.” Buck begs, panic beginning to set in. He can’t lose this job. He can’t. “I don't have anything else,” he says as a last ditch attempt to change Bobby’s mind, but deep down he knows it’s no use.
“I'm sorry, kid. I said you're done.”
And Bobby actually does look sorry, which makes it hurt even more.
This is really happening, he’s really just lost the one thing in his life that made sense. Being a firefighter felt right, like Buck was exactly where he was meant to be. All the other jobs over the years, Buck always knew they had a time limit, a countdown beginning as soon as he started. But not firefighting. Sure, deciding to become a firefighter was a spontaneous random decision he made while bartending in Peru, but once he was in LA and all signed up at the academy, something had settled within him and he knew this time was different.
Bobby stops at the roof’s edge and calls out to him. “Bring the ladder truck back to the station immediately and then clean out your locker.”
Buck follows silently after him, his mind going a mile a minute, the sharp sting of venomous thoughts settling in. Fuck up. Can’t even keep a job. Not good enough. Failure. You cared about this job and still managed to fuck it up. This is why you can’t have nice things, because you break them.
He doesn’t remember the climb down or the drive back to the station or even getting out of the truck and returning the keys before making his way to the locker room. It’s like his body is moving on autopilot. Buck slumps down on the bench in front of the lockers in defeat, opening his locker and pulling his duffle bag out so he can start cleaning his stuff out. He hears the door open and the shuffling of feet and turns his head to see Hen cautiously approaching him.
“I guess you heard?” He turns back to his locker and grabs his spare clothes, shoving them roughly into his duffle.

NSFW Alphabet
word count: 2.0k
A/N: hi besties<333 this is my first time writing so pls don’t absolutely tear me to shreds (just a little bit is acceptable though). i’m planning on making a SFW alphabet for buck soon as well but some of the letters had me drawing a blank lol. also, although there’s not really much mention of it, this is with a plus size reader in mind. as a plus size girly myself, it sucks to read x reader stories and knowing in the back of your mind that it wasn’t written with your body type in mind (although there’s nothing wrong with writers that do that of course). i just thought i would add to the plus size reader community because there are barely any buck fics and i believe in my heart that he loves plus size women. anyway, enjoy <3
warnings: smut (obviously lol), no use of y/n, fem!reader, plus size!reader, race inclusive!reader
MDNI- 18+ Only
A = Aftercare (what they’re like after sex)
When y’all finish he’ll wait a few minutes before pulling out, head buried in your neck as his breathing gets back to normal. He’ll kiss your neck and tell you how good you were for him, before finally getting up to clean you up. After that he wants to lay with you and talk, just enjoying each other’s company, maybe y’all will make some food if you feel like it.
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partners)
His: Probably his arms. He’s worked hard to be as fit as he is and he enjoys using his arms to move you/lift you while you’re having sex. He takes pride in his appearance, he knows he’s hot, but it’s an added bonus that he can lift you up and do whatever he (or you) wants.
Yours: I am of the firm belief that Evan Buckley is a thigh man. He loves how they feel in his hands, he loves how they look when you straddle him, he can’t get enough. He loves to see them jiggle when you move, or when he playfully smacks them. He loves thick thighs and I will die on this hill
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
This man has a BREEDING KINK OKAY!!! He loves to cum inside you, fucking deep into you and feeling his cum fill you up. He loves watching it slowly dripping out, so he can finger it back in. If that’s not your thing I think the next best place would be on your stomach, watching your face as he lets go, seeing the way he marks you up. He loves your little tummy, how it moves as he ruts into you, so he loves it when you let him cum all over it.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
I only call this a dirty secret because he would never tell anyone about this after the last time it happened and he got fired. He wants to fuck you in the fire engine SO BAD. He can’t help but think of the way you would look as he fucked into you quickly, trying not to get caught with your dress up around your waist. He knows it’s not gonna happen, he’d never hear the end of it from anyone in his life if it did, but god he wants to so bad.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?)
Girl have we watched the same show?? This man FUCKS!!! We all know (and love) Buck 1.0, and we know he knows what to do. Buck 3.0 might mean him changing into, well, not a sex addict, but that doesn’t mean he forgot his training (🫡). I think he understands that every woman is different, and while he might not get it exactly right the first time, he’s a fast and eager learner, watching what exactly makes you squirm and moan the most for him.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
Canonically, Buck LOVES when you ride him, and I agree. He loves to watch you move yourself on him, able to grab at your thighs, and your hips, and your chest. He also loves to move you on him, squeezing your hips tightly as he sets the pace if you start getting tired or if he just feels like it.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
I mean, he’s Buck, he’s truly a golden retriever of a man and cannot stay serious for long. I think he’s a bit of a mix, he can be serious in the moment, but at the end of the day, he’s still Buck, and Buck is silly goofy.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
He keeps it nicely trimmed, carpets match the drapes. In terms of his partner, he really doesn’t give a fuck. He’s seen it all and could not care less as long as he feels the way you wrap around him so perfectly.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
Buck 3.0 is a man of TASTE, but that being said, I think he only really pulls out the romance during special occasions. Most of the time this man wants to freak nasty, but sometimes when he’s tired, or just feels especially in cuddly/clingy, he’ll be more romantic.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)
He does it pretty often, of course not when he has the option to fuck you instead (and you’re willing, of course), but if you’re not with him and he needs a quick release, he getting right to it.
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
Breeding: I will scream this till the day that I die, this man wants a family more than anything. Whenever he’s inside of you, he can’t help but think about how pretty you’d look with your belly all round with his babies.
Praise: Look at this pathetic little guy, he needs to be praised, he thrives on it. He loves to hear how good he feels, how good he’s making you feel. This goes both ways. He’s in your ear immediately telling you how good you feel, how well you’re taking him, how pretty you look.
Spanking: HEAR ME OUT!! While I’m not sure he would actually bend you over his knee (but honestly the more I think about it he might) he would LOVE to give your ass a nice little swat as you’re riding him. He loves the sound it makes, and the sound you make because you’re not expecting it. I don’t think he’d ever do it hard enough to hurt too much, but I think enough to make your ass a little red would definitely be something he could get behind (lol).
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
He doesn’t have a ring cutter in the kitchen for nothing<3
I think he likes to have sex at home the most, on the bed, on the couch, on the kitchen counter. You name it, he wants to fuck you there. His favourite is the counter because he loves seeing you being so domestic in the kitchen. Making dinner, cleaning up, whatever, he wants you right then and there and cannot wait. He’ll come up behind you, wrapping his arms around you as he kisses your neck before slowly turning you around to face him and lift you onto the counter to have his way with you.
While he’s moved on from having sex in public places that could (will) get him fired, he’s still into it, but in less obvious places. If y’all are in his car and you’re looking a little too good in his passenger seat, he loves an empty parking lot quickie. Front seat, back seat, whatever you want, he’d be pulling you onto him as soon as he puts the jeep in park.
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
Girl ANYTHING gets him going, it would take one look, one touch, one word and this man would be ready to go. I think what really gets him going though is seeing you with kids or getting along so well with the 118. This man truly just wants a silly little family and someone that can get along with the 118fam, so seeing you like that has him making up a stupid excuse to leave a little early so he can take you home and have his hands all over you.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
Like I said before, I don’t think he would do anything to hurt you too much, other than the occasional light spanking or biting. He would also not be into any kind of age play or pet play, he’s pro kink but it’s just not for him.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
This man is a giver and I stand by this. Dear god he loves nothing more than having you spread open for him, hands tangled in his hair as he makes himself at home between your thighs. He loves having his hands gripping your thick thighs, feeling them on either side of his head. When you start to get squirmy from the overstimulation he’ll place a large hand over your lower stomach, holding you still as he pushes you over the edge again.
With all that said, he will definitely not say no to getting head. He loves seeing you look up at him while you’re on your knees, trying to take all of him. He’ll keep a hand in your hair, pulling it softly every now and then, and he can’t help but moan and whine as he gets closer and closer, eventually cumming down your throat as he squeezes his eyes shut.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
It depends on the day, but most of the time he likes it rough and fast. He loves a good quickie, meaning it kinda has to be more fast paced and rough, and he’s pretty easy to get riled up, so when you drop any sort of hint, he’s on you immediately and ready. On other days where he’s feeling extra clingy and lovey, he’ll be more of a slow and sensual guy, but I think for the most part he loves to fuck you deep and rough.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
Like I said, he loves a good quickie. A lot of the time he craves a quickie before work, needing to feel you before his long shift. I think they happen pretty often, but he’d much rather take his time with you, using his fingers and mouth before he fucks you.
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
As long as there’s clear communication he’s down to try pretty much anything, he’ll do anything to make you happy (within reason). I think he’s also a risk taker (also within reason, he has to think about not getting fired again, of course). Buck 1.0 is still inside him somewhere when it comes to sex so he definitely loves a little risk, but he’s grown enough to know where the line is.
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
While he would love to go as many rounds as possible, I think it would realistically be 2-3, lasting about 10-15 minutes each round. I think he would be the type to like having some time between rounds, tension still high as you talk and lay around before he's back on you again.
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
Once again, he doesn’t have a ring cutter in his kitchen for nothing<3
He likes them, he definitely owns a few toys of his own. Vibrators, cock rings, some handcuffs or restraints, he’s very open to anything that increases y’alls pleasure.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
He does it sometimes not really meaning to, like he does something and you’re like….dear god…and maybe he doesn’t notice the first time but the second time he does and WILL keep going until you snap. He loves the way you get all squirmy and whiny and desperate for him, knowing you want him as much as he wants you.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
So vocal!!!! Literally that meme thats like “y’all afraid to make noise in the bedroom?? i be in my girls ear like…” He loves dirty talk (on both ends) and he can’t help but let out low moans when you’re clenching around him. He also loves hearing your breathless whimpers, making him feel like he’s doing a good job, and encouraging him to pull more sounds from your lips.
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
If he was in a relationship during the whole sperm donor thing, it would be the longest few weeks for both of y’all. I imagine the first time he has an appointment, you make sure you’re waiting for him in a cute little matching set, knowing how excited he was to finally be buried inside you again, hearing you whine as he fills you up. He’s so frustrated when his appointment doesn’t work out that he doesn’t let you know how it went, instead being unpleasantly surprised when he sees you sprawled out on his bed when you get home and unable to do anything about it. He wants nothing more than to rip your pretty little set off your body and run his hands up and down your soft curves, but he can’t, and it’s torture. You apologize (but he will hear none of it because it was a lovely surprise, just shitty circumstances), and instead you change into an oversized shirt and sweatpants to enjoy a completely normal (and not sexual at all) night on the couch.
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)
8 inches, thick, no complaints <3
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
HIGH!!! This man is thinking about sex 24/7, and if he could, his hands would be on you at all times.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
Most of the time I think he stays up for a while, just hanging out and talking to you. But if he comes home after a long shift he’s fucking GONE in 5 minutes tops.

I ran across your post about how some theories could be good if people took off Tommy hate bias and I was curious on how you’d think 911 could handle a buck finds out how Tommy used to be and if actually goes south arc? It’s something I see bounced around but it’s also another theory that isn’t handled well at all by people who hate Tommy but I guess if they wanted to break them up I could see that causing an issue as well.
So I think for this hypothetical it would be triggered by Gerrard saying offhandedly that Tommy “used to be on his side” or something and Buck remembers the time Tommy said “I had Gerrard, which did not make me a better person.” Because both Buck and the audience are primed to know Tommy is ashamed of the guy he was under Gerrard it’s not going to be as simple as Buck (famously a man that refers to past versions of himself like “Buck 1.0”) decide to break it off then and there because Tommy was hostile to Chimney once upon a time after all he knows they’re friends now.
So really the way I would see it “going South” would be Buck prying (like he always does with Eddie) and Tommy getting more and more defensive because he “doesn’t like to think about the man I used to be.” And Buck would push and Tommy would push back and Tommy would get upset and say something like “The man I was is dead. Let him stay that way Evan.” And Buck would leave it alone but bring it up to Eddie or Maddie or Bobby or Hen and they’d have hard conversation about past mistakes being difficult to talk about.
Of these people I think the best narrative choice would be Hen: she has things in her past she regrets (Eva being the big one) and she saw Tommy grow; she’d be the best one to say whether or not Tommy is still the man that didn’t stand up for her or if he’s the man that reported Gerrard on her behalf. If I was writing it I’d be sure to emphasize that Hen didn’t forgive Tommy right away but she grew to trust him from his actions. I’d have Hen say “I mean at first I didn’t think Gerrard leaving would change all that much. It was still a boys club there, but part of the reason that Captains didn’t stick around that long til Bobby was that if any of them had a problem with me, Chim, Sal, and Tommy would be right behind me every time. The Tommy I met wouldn’t have been going to bat for me like that so I can tell you he’s a different guy.” Then she’d bump Buck’s arm and say “The kind of guy I’m cool with one of my friends dating.” And Buck would say “but h-how do I get him to talk about it? I don’t want him to feel like he can’t talk to me.” And Hen would say “Sometimes it’s not easy to talk about the mistakes we made with the people we love. When’s the last time you told someone about you and Lucy?”
Ultimately I don’t think the show is going to have Tommy from 2010 be the reason they break up, because the show has had far too many examples of people with really shitty pasts learning and growing. Remember that just last season had an arc about Bobby reckoning with a man whose wife he killed and the complicated nature of forgiveness and healing. The show would much rather have Tommy acknowledge his past (the way he already has) and show how he has improved.

Y'all don't understand how bad Kristen Riedel is for this show and the characters, I need her gone like yesterday. The last two seasons she was the showrunner and all of the interpersonal relationships suffered greatly when she was in charge. Apart from one or two scenes, every character seemed so disconnected from each other, especially Eddie and Buck. And don't even get me started on the disgusting and UNDESERVED redemptions of all the shitty parents on the show.
In S7, atleast Tim took over and while I'm not exactly loving the direction his storylines have gone in or how they've been handled (example: Buck's bi storyline) I think he's okay, with a longer season, he can definitely take the show back to its glory days. Also he atleast promised us Buck-Eddie scenes every episode and boy did he deliver.
But Kristen Riedel again a huge part of the writing team, wrote two of the worst things in the show to spread her agenda or something. First the nun thing, which everyone laughed about bc of how out of place and ridiculous it was, but this season finale and Christopher's decision was just out of character. Not to mention, fitting for Riedel's "blood family above all" agenda. Like, do you expect me to believe that Chris would call his grandparents instead of Buck and LEAVE to live with them in another state?!! Ofc he's a kid, he's not rational but from a storytelling perspective, it's bad writing, despite having multiple opportunities, we didn't even get a will mention. They probably needed to write Gavin McHugh off the show but there's other ways to do that, it feels like doing irreparable damage to Eddie and Christopher's relationship for absolutely no reason. It feels like they were having a hard time writing for Eddie, so they hit a refresh button and I'm sure if Riedel stays, he'll be written as Buck 1.0 next season.
This woman doesn't understand the characters, doesn't seem to care for them and it's exhausting. After the horrendous S6 finale, I thought we wouldn't have to go through it again but alas.

i have this idea that after chris leaves, buck and eddie start to box every day (no more illegal street fighting for you!) and while eddie has a crisis about everything karen takes him to a queer club just to go out and forget about everything but that spirals into his sexuality crisis getting out of hand and he starts flirting with buck while boxing (buck thinks he is going crazy and imagining shit) and there are Moments and an almost kiss that makes buck go clinically insane and more gay bar nights from there (eddie 1.0 but buck doesnt know it) and in the end eddie goes fully respresso mode and then off to church with bobby only for the priest to be like gay is cool and eddie comes out to buck during boxing the next day but they get interrupted because chris comes back and it is the middle of the night all of a sudden and eddie accidentally lets it slip that buck was one major reason for his sexuality crisis and after some Misunderstanding (eddie thinks buck is weirded out but buck just had to sleep at home for some reason that eddie completely forgot about) buck and eddie actually go boxing again and have a proper talk about bucks journey and over lunch dishes they then talk about how the only way they work is as a unit and they know no relationship will ever measure up to theirs and say that trying for a relationship between them is the only way to have this work without both being constantly blue balled in a way and boom kiss in eddies kitchen (as it should be) BUT I DONT HAVE ANY TIME TO WRITE THIS BEFORE S8 AND I HATE IT (i just needed to get this out of my head and i need karen and eddie to interact more) toodles :3
anon how can you drop the most iconic s8 spec fic idea in my asks and then tell me you’re not going to write it you guys really live to torture me fr fr
also hard agree thst we need more eddie&karen friendship scenes, throw some maddie in there and UGH 🧑🍳👌💋
(also i was literally talking to my friend the other day and said “what if they brought back hot priest from s1 to help eddie work through his sexuality crisis” like it’s not a want it’s a need at this point)

If you were making the 911 characters each a different mythical creature (vampire, werewolf, witch, selkie, etc.) who would be what? (Feel free to answer for as many characters or as few as you'd like, but I am most interested in Buck, Tommy, Eddie, Hen, Chim) (I am assuming possibly same creature for families, so Maddie and Buck as the same and Chris and Eddie as the same but if you're not going that way then what would they be too! )
THIS is the kind of thing I like to see in my inbox!! anon your hand in marriage pls!!
okay, lets go! this was hard actually and i went back and forth on the answers many times but this is what i settled on:
HEN: VAMPIRE
I can see her as an ancient being who has seen people come and go, who has lived through some horrible things and some wonderful things. she just has a gravitas and weight to her that i think fits as an immortal. i also think that Hen feels a little indestructible? like shes so rarely injured compared to buck/eddie/chim
EDDIE: WITCH
now this one is extremely influenced by the incredible fic Hot Ghost Problems, which i adore. witch!eddie and his sisters are so great in that story and i've become very attached to the idea. diaz family witches!! so fun!! especially if eddie has some inherent healing ability... yeah, excellent. (and yes in this case it would be familial and chris would have magic as well!!)
CHIM: FAE
chim was the hardest because... i dont know, he feels so human to me? maybe he's the token human friend <3 but if i had to choose, i think i'd make him some kind of fae creature, i think! simliar to hen, i think i could see him as an immortal being, especially since he was the first at the 118 and he's seen them all arrive, you know? plus, he's a little mischievous, he can't lie... it works!
BUCK: INCUBUS
look, this is also thanks to some fics i've read in the past (like this one) but i think it fits!! lust demon... definitely works for buck 1.0!! (obviously this would be without the SA aspects of the creature, of course. buck is a lust demon who gets consent!!) it definitely aligns with buck's complicated relationship with his body, and his complicated relationship with sex, especially in the earlier seasons. (although i did really consider making him a werewolf, but i ultimately did not because....)
TOMMY: WEREWOLF
werewolf tommy!! i don't know why, something about his bulk and scruffiness simply gives me werewolf vibes. like he reminds me of a german shepherd?? i have very little reasoning for this one expect that LFJR's face is a werewolf face to me and also i think buck deserves to cuddle with his werewolf boyfriend <3
to be so honest though I could see all of them as werewolves. i love werewolves. should i write a werewolf AU? (nobody let me write a werewolf AU, i have too many AUs on the go)
thank you anon this was so fun!! <3

hey transitions anon back again! I was struggling with sprite (transforms?? animations???) when I sent the ask (still cannot get that scene from Fantastic Wonderland out of my head where Buck butchers the rabbits and the parts fly lol its so wellmade), but I'd love to see how you do with your CGs and scenes too if you have the time or want!!! (Still thinking about the CG in the first arc where Orlam dips Genzou in the water, it hurt but it looked so cool)
sorry for the delay in this i've been having some really bad dizzy spells the past few days making it hard to be on the computer much 😵💫 but i've tried to put together a short basic tutorial here with some fundamentals for sprite movement!
since you mentioned the bucks scene i thought i'd just walk through how you could recreate that as it includes pretty much all of the basic ATL that i use for the majority of my sprite movements. we'll be recreating this scene in ren'py (well, the animation at least):
under the cut! (i'll also share a link to the full code for this scene at the end so you can see the full thing more easily with all the interwoven stuff). note that this is not really written for complete ren'py beginners as it assumes at lease some basic familiarity, such as needing to define images, etc, as i don't really talk about that
i will say first off that none of the actual animation coding... script... stuff is actually that complicated at all. it really only uses a few different commands. it's more how you use them than anything that's particularly complex
the main command you'll use ridiculously often when moving sprites around is ease. ease just tells "something to happen to an object over a period of time with a small ease in and ease out on both sides." this something could be the object moving somewhere (most common) or something else like the object blurring or going transparent, etc.
so for instance you could write ease 1.0 xalign 0.5 and this would just mean "move this object to an xalign of 0.5 over a period of 1 second with a slight ease in and ease out on both sides of the movement." xalign align here is just saying a position aligned horizontally on the screen with 0.0 being the far left and 1.0 being the far right (meaning that 0.5 would be right smack in the middle). you can also use xpos instead of xalign. xpos just refers to a more exact position not relative to the screen and based on the left edge of the object... i tend to use a combination of the two depending on what i need. like if i need to move something completely off the screen i don't normally use xalign because it starts to get all weird since it's relative to the screen. anyway, you'll see some of these in action for the scene in just a bit
so at the start of this scene, bucks is at the center of the screen. i moved her there originally using this code:
the show command is just how you show or move an image on the screen. so here i'm moving the image bucks_axe angry to xalign 0.5 over a period of 0.8 seconds with an ease in and ease out on both sides. this command happened before the gif started, so bucks is now already at the center of the screen. what happens next?
she needs to go running off the screen to the left!
this is very simple... you just need an ease!
this moves bucks to a position of -1.5 over a period of 1 second. as i mentioned earlier, usually when i'm moving stuff off the screen entirely i switch to xpos. this xpos is super to the left actually, i'm not quite sure why i made it so intense now that i'm looking at it LOL oftentimes if you just have a small sprite you only need to move it to like xpos -0.5 or so depending on how wide it is. anyway, this time she goes all the way to -1.5, which is part of why it looks like she moves very quickly because she has a ways to go in only 1 second
then what happens...
this is a little bit more complex as we're going to have to talk about knots. first let's talk about the red screen and the shake. these are both handled with this code:
the top line is telling the bg to shake. this is a custom transformation i wrote myself called hbounce. i have it defined in the top of my script file (or in my first script file when i use multiple files) and it looks like this:
feel free to use it if you want! it's just a rapid-fire sequence of very small eases and xoffsets that when triggered will make it look like the object shakes.
in this instance, the object shaking is the bg, but you can also use it for sprites. i like using it for energetic expressions or like if the sprite is supposed to be doing something that would realistically have a bit of movement
you can use this transformation on any object by using at, just as you see in the first screenshot. so show bg at hbounce, or if you wanted to make bucks shake, you could type show bucks_axe angry at hbounce
next i make the screen red by introducing a new image i have called red that's literally just a 1280x720 red image. i start it off at an alpha of 0.0, which means it's completely transparent. then i use ease 0.5 alpha 1.0 to make it fully visible over of a period of 0.5 seconds.
now things are gonna get a bit more complicated... first i'm going to make the bunny heads and arms appear on the screen. but i need them to be offscreen to the left first, so i first use some code to place them there:
this makes 2 bunny heads and 2 bunny arms appear on screen at various positions. all of them are offscreen to the left (either -0.5 or -0.4). and they have different yposes (ypos is the same as xpos just for vertical instead of horizontal).
now i need them to move onscreen while making an arc downward and going offscreen at the bottom... complicated. you need to use knots for this sob. i hate knots as i always need to tweak them a bajillion times before i get them right, but they're necessary sometimes. knots just make something curve rather than move in a straight line. so the code for the downward arc movement for each object is:
you'll notice each of these is slightly different. that's because i did them all manually to try and make them look good... it's annoying.
first up, you'll see that i repeated the initial position for each object. that's because for some reason knots don't work properly if you don't have the initial position defined within the same command (including both xpos and ypos)??? also if you use xpos/ypos for the initial position, you need to use xpos/ypos for the final position (you can't use xalign/yalign). so the first line of each is just a repeat of the positions from the previous screenshot
then comes a long one. linear 1.0 pos (0.7, 1.4) knot (0.4, .0) rotate 90. this is saying "move the object to a position of xpos 0.7 and ypos 1.4 over a period of 1 second except have it arc towards a position of xpos 0.4 and ypos 0.0 while also rotating that object 90 degrees" WHEW
a ypos of greater than 1.0 will put that object below the bottom of the screen, which is why the heads and arms look like they're falling offscreen. i could not really tell you a good strategy though for figuring out the knot... what i usually do is start by setting it about halfway between the initial position and the final position, then tweaking it based on what looks good by testing it a gajillion times LOL there is probably a better way to do this but i do not know it...
(btw the difference between ease and linear is just that ease puts that small ease in and ease out on both sides of the movement while linear is just a straight movement; i usually use ease for like 95% of my movement as it looks much softer, but sometimes i use linear depending on what needs to happen)
anyway, each of the heads and arms has a slightly different final point and knot, so they all fall just a bit differently, which is good for making it look more realistic (if you could call flying bunny heads and arms realistic)
the next couple movements are going to be basically the same now that you know how to do this:
bucks just needs to move to the opposite side of the screen, followed by the same screen shake, red screen, and flying bunny limbs. you're just going to need to reverse them for the ones on the other side. so first i move bucks to the other side of the screen (offscreen right) using this:
(remember that an xpos greater than 1.0 will be off the screen to the right while an xpos of less than 0 will be offscreen to the left, although since it calculates from the left edge of the object, you'll need to usually do like xpos -0.5 to get it fully offscreen)
then comes the complicated stuff:
so just like before, first i have the bg bounce. then i make the red screen become visible with an ease of 0.5. there's some pauses in there. and then i have the bunny heads and arms appear from the right offscreen this time and fall to the left and offscreen on the bottom. it's the exact same code just with the positions kinda semi-reversed and my heads and arms are flipped...
you might be wondering why i'm constantly showing and hiding and changing alpha for various objects somewhat haphazardly. this is because objects you show later will show on top of objects you show earlier. so whenever you see this type of stuff happening in my code it's usually just because i need to ensure the right things are showing on top... sometimes i need to use a few tricks, like actually showing an image way earlier but having the alpha be 0.0 so it's invisible, then later i change the alpha to 1.0. this lets it still show on the bottom even if i show other objects later. there might be a better way to do this too LOL but i do not know it. my scripts are constantly full of these types of weird tricks that don't make sense at first glance until you figure out that's what i'm doing hahaha. half the time if i haven't looked at it in a while i forget myself what i was even doing...
ok now to the last part (hopefully this hasn't been ridiculously confusing). bucks needs to return to the center of the screen and start spinning, then move offscreen...
this starts out simple using a command we all know and love to get her in the middle of the screen:
now we need to make her spin! for this, i defined completely new images for bucks called bucks_axe spinslow and bucks_axe spinfast:
each image uses an image i defined previously as a base: bucks_axe normal. which is just my basic bucks_axe image. then... i flip it horizontally twice in a row and repeat it. an xzoom of -1 will flip an image. while an xzoom of 1 will show an image normally. an xzoom of 0 will make the image look like a tiny line at the center of the screen LOL you can use xzoom to flip a sprite horizontally if you want it to face the other way. and if you use ease with the xzoom, then it'll make it look like it's actively flipping rather than just instantly facing the other way. the repeat at the end here just tells it to keep repeating forever, so it'll keep flipping back and forth, making it look as though it's spinning. i have a slow version defined that takes 0.6 seconds to make a complete spin, and a faster one that does it in only 0.2 seconds
now, this was just defining these objects. this doesn't show these objects on the screen. remember you can only do that with the show command. so next we need to actually show the spinning bucks:
first i show the slower version for a period of 0.4 seconds. then i show the faster version for a period of 0.4 seconds before having the spinning bucks go shooting off the screen to an xpos of 1.8. having the slow version switch to the fast version like this is what helps it look more like she eases into the spin
once she's offscreen, we get to the final part of the scene, where the heads and arms spin upwards very comedically:
for some reason this took me forever to get right. i had to mess around with the code a ton before it started acting the way i wanted it to. tbh that's really what so much of this comes down to. writing code you think could possibly work, then testing and tweaking it 50 million times until it looks how you want it to look. anyway... for this part, the heads and arms have been set up very similarly to the spinning bucks, with each of them having a new defined version of them rotating:
here i have 2 rotating heads and 2 rotating arms. some of them rotate clockwise 360 degrees, while others rotate counter-clockwise 360 degrees over a period of 1 second. and then they repeat so they just keep rotating forever. the rotate_pad True in the middle here makes it so that the objects don't change size while rotating and thus won't start changing position as they rotate. i don't fully understand it tbh but it's necessary if you want your rotating objects to stay in one place while they rotate
now that you have these rotating bunny pieces, they need to jump from the bottom of the screen, hover for a moment, then fall back offscreen. this is, as always, just a series of eases...
each bunny piece starts below the bottom of the screen (greater than ypos 1.0), then leaps up onscreen (ypos 0.0) over an ease of 0.8 seconds, then falls back below the screen (ypos 1.5) over an ease of 0.8 seconds. and i put small pauses in between so that they come up one by one...
...and that's it!!! that's honestly all it is. every single piece of movement happening here is just an ease or a linear to move the object to a different xpos or ypos (or xalign/yalign). some of them are a bit more complex, like when i add a knot in the middle of the movement to make it arc or have base defined images that are spinning or rotating. but the fundamental animations really all just come down to those types of movements
i realize this tutorial might not be nearly as clear as it was in my head as i tried to type it up, especially if you don't have much experience with ATL in ren'py to begin with, so you can feel to ask me any specific questions you may have if something doesn't make sense or if there's something else you're trying to do that you can't get to work
since i only copy-pasted bits and pieces of the most important code to talk about above, i thought i would also share the complete code for this snippet here: https://wtools.io/paste-code/bT61
this way you can see all the rest of the code around it to see everything in context, as well as all the other stuff like how the text is in there, pauses and sounds, repeated stuff i didn't bother to include in the copy-pastes, etc. realize ofc that you can't just copy-paste this entire snippet into your own projects because it references a lot of images you don't have!! LOL however, you can copy-paste bits and pieces of it for different specific movements if you want!
and as i mentioned earlier, feel free to ask me any questions!

eddie joining in s1 you say??? say more right now i am begging
akjdshfjsah ok ok so truth be told, i'm a little obsessed with the idea of eddie meeting buck 1.0. just bc i'm so curious as to what he'd think of him?????? in fact when i wrote Buy Back the Secrets (aka my amnesia au) that was what it was supposed to be about but the whole thing kind of got away from me lmao.
but anyway i was watching 10 things i hate about you the other week right, and there's this exchange between kat and patrick:
"so you disappoint them from the start and then you’re covered right”
"something like that"
“then you screwed up.”
“why?”
“you never disappointed me.”
and ALL i could think about was eddie meeting buck during s1 when he's still using sex as a coping mechanism and putting up this cocky, confident front (and lbr acting out a little in the same way he would when he was a teenager bc he feels like he fucks up no matter how hard he tries not to) and seeing through all that and getting right to the heart of why buck acts the way he does.
and just. i can hear those words coming out their mouths y'know??????
anyway now i'm rewatching s1 i can't help imagining this scenario in a little more detail. like imagine eddie getting hired right as buck gets un-fired and he's panicking bc he really Does feel like he's about to be replaced and he so easily could bc he's still a probie and eddie's competent and not reckless and makes bobby happy. so maybe their introduction would still be similar
but also. buck 1.0 knew what the fuck he was doing and i refuse to believe he wouldn't have hit on eddie just a little bit lmao. but it would be almost a year earlier than canon so eddie would probably still be feeling a little fresh after separating from shannon and you kNOW he'd be flustered even though he doesn't want to be!!!
and yeah i'm just really curious about eddie would react to the therapist sleeping with buck or abby pulling buck's phone number from the 911 call and calling him bc she saw him on tv bc you know he's protective over buck's feelings - especially if he's the only one who understands how deep buck's feelings run at that point!!!!
and can u imagine buck 1.0 meeting chris?????
THE POSSIBILITIES
basically. those are my thoughts. i need to write part two for Does Your Firehouse Know? and season 5 is going to render me absolutely useless in two weeks time so. will i write this before then? idk we'll see but stay tuned maybe lmao

Can you rec buddie fics? Pretty please?
OMG it's my time to shine, bitches!!!
Sorry if I went a little nuts, but this fandom has some of the best writers I've ever seen. I have 186 Buddie fics bookmarked in my AO3,
I'll link here if you are interested in taking a look cause if I put them all here it would be too long. Also, I tried to show here some fics I very rarely see recced, and a little bit o the classics. This fandom has some very underrated authors, everyone in my bookmarks is worth taking a look really.
Please take a look at the warnings before reading, enjoy!!!
I Hate Accidents (Except When We Went From Friends to This) by morganofthefairies (Rated E )
Buck and Eddie had always been unconventional. Neither of them gave it much thought – they were just them. Buck and Eddie - partners, best friends, co-parents – just as entangled in each other’s lives as any actual couple in the 118.
Or, the story of how Buck and Eddie went about their relationship in entirely the wrong order.
My Heart's Been Borrowed by ElvenSorceress (Rated E)
aka the one where Taylor gives Buck his ultimate fantasy and uncovers far more than either of them expected, forcing him to confront his long held feelings for Eddie
Half Awake in Our Fake Empire by HMSLusitania (Rated E)
Buck 1.0 fathered a child and Buck 4.0 comes into custody.
Love and Bullets Both Shatter Hearts (But Only One Can Put You Back Together) (Rated E)
Agent [Redacted] Diaz is the best at what he does. Usually. But lately there's this real pain in the ass* who's been ruining his missions: Code Name "Buck."
Keep It On by R_E_R6 (Rated E)
When Eddie walks in on Buck, bent over in nothing but a hoodie, their plans for the night immediately change. Buck's outfit though? Well, Eddie requests that it stays the same...for reasons.
Heart of Flowers / Heart of Gold by ElvenSorceress (Rated T)
Buck nearly loses everything and Eddie has to follow his heart
hungry for your love by evcndiaz (Rated G)
prompt: "who’s gonna write a fanfic where chris is not cooperating with buck and eddie accidentally says “listen to your dad”?"
or; breadsticks are a metaphor for love and boning
keep your eyes on the road by iriswests (Rated M)
A glimpse into buck and eddie’s developing relationship, told through ten moments stopped at a traffic light
when things fall into place by woodchoc_magnum (Rated M)
In which Eddie asks Buck to move in with them during lockdown to help look after Christopher, which leads to certain unresolved feelings being resolved.
Carbon Date Me, Excavate Me by extasiswings, letmetellyouaboutmyfeels (Rated E)
Evan "Buck" Buckley has made a name for himself as the independent bad boy of archaeology. At least, until Professor Eddie Diaz shows up with his fedora and good looks and starts beating Buck to the punch more often than not.
Buck hates his stupid six-pack covered guts.
Except for how... he might not.
Objects in the Mirror by SevenSoulmates (Rated E)
The voice had always been around, Eddie remembers it, like a stream of consciousness that babbled incoherently to the point where Eddie just tuned it out.
But then the voice started speaking directly to him. Conversing like he was a whole person standing right in front of him. Like he could see what was happening around Eddie.
Eddie shook his head. No one was talking to him, and Eddie most certainly was not talking back.
He wouldn’t talk to the boy in his head ever again. There was no boy in his head.
ripples all the way down by iriswests (Rated M)
christopher partakes in some parent trapping
dream of some epiphany by extasiswings (Rated M)
Evan Buckley is lost.
It’s happenstance that he wanders into the navy recruiting center—he’s been in San Diego for a few weeks, bartending late nights and weekends, living in a house with three other guys not because he needs the roommates but because he doesn’t want to be alone, and the military is…respectable. Stable. So Buck thinks maybe and opens the door.
Buck leaves ten minutes later with a set of printed instructions for sending his first letter, assured that he can drop it off whenever he’s ready, and a name.
Staff Sergeant Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz.
Relationship Advice from Complete Strangers Online by HMSLusitania (Rated T)
Hi, I’ve never made a Reddit post before and I’m not 100% sure what I’m doing but I need advice and can’t ask anyone in my real life. So, I [30M] have this best friend [34M]…
Leading with the Left by letmetellyouaboutmyfeels (Rated E)
When Buck said he was a "bartender" in "South America" what he actually meant was "stripper" in "Mexico."
And when Eddie said, "What's your problem?" what he actually meant was, "Is this about the time you gave me a lap dance?"
In other words, there's a few things the 118 doesn't know about Buck. Or Eddie. Or Buck and Eddie's relationship.
fireflies where my caution should be by littlesnowpea (Rated M)
“You never talk about your parents,” Eddie says, which is not even remotely what Buck expects Eddie to say. He frowns, tilts his head, but it isn’t a question, as evidenced by Eddie charging on. “I never asked because I figured it was your business, but the look on your face any time they’re brought up tells me you don’t get along.”
Buck swallows hard, against a lump in his throat. His parents? Eddie’s right, he never talks about them, for good reason. He opens his mouth, then closes it again, not sure what he’s even going to say.
Eddie takes it as the answer Buck is trying to make it out to be. He squeezes Buck’s wrist again, takes a deep breath, like he’s on a call with someone who’s panicking. Buck finds his breathing slowing to match Eddie’s, and Eddie nods as Buck gets it under control.
“There are people on the porch,” Eddie says, voice even. “Saying they want to meet their grandchild.”
Asked, Offered, Given, (He's) Taken by letmetellyouaboutmyfeels (Rated E)
People like to flirt with Buck on calls. It kind of makes Buck uncomfortable.
And that makes Eddie frustrated.
I Hit the Accelerator (But the Car was in Reverse) by extasiswings, letmetellyouaboutmyfeels (Rated E)
When Buck is forced to confront the truth about his breakup with Abby, having casual sex with his hot new coworker seems like the best rebound idea.
Unfortunately, that hot new coworker turns into his best friend. But best friends can keep having sex with each other, right?
There's no way this could possibly go wrong.
Memorable by JessicaMDawn (Rated T)
Six times Buck got recognized by people he saved during the tsunami, and how his team realized he was a hero.
All Bets are Off by NobodyKnows_U (Not Rated)
Or, the five times the firefam realized Buck and Eddie were in love, and the one-time Eddie finally did something about it.
fire on fire by extasiswings (Rated T)
Or: Buck and Eddie get in the habit of sharing a bed while living together during quarantine. It's platonic until it isn't.
Better Together by Randomfandombloggs09 (Not Rated)
5 times Eddie sees Buck wearing his last name and 1 time its not just his
Daddy and Pops by EdithBlake (Rated M)
When Christopher calls Buck 'Pops' things get a bit confusing. Buck and Eddie have a talk with Christopher that ends up with both of them being even more confused by how right it sounds.
the meaning of the words you see by florenceandthemachine (Rated E)
unknown sender: Hi!
unknown sender: Just wanted to say thanks for letting me buy you a drink, and for your number. Sorry I had to run.
unknown sender: I’m Eddie by the way.

sent: i don’t want 2 be this guy but
sent: i think u mayb put the wrong # in ur phone
the dream you wish will come true by woodchoc_magnum (Rated M)
In which Christopher Diaz cannot understand why his father would want to date his former teacher when Evan Buckley is right there.
vienna waits for you by mottainai (Not Rated)
Eddie doesn't deserve a soulmate.
Work Husband by hideeho (Rated T)
“What...what have you done with Buck?” Eddie is going to kill him for messing with his phone. No, that’s too extreme. He’s going to maim him. Just a little.
“Check under H,” Chim offers helpfully, shooting a look over to Hen with a smirk.
Why the hell would he be under—
Then he sees it.
Husband.
Bad Neighbors by firstdegreefangirl (Rated E)
Eddie's new neighbors are keeping him up all night. He calls on his best friend for a little taste of their own medicine.
Cross the Line by Sirencalls (Rated E)
Eddie laughs, short and quiet and almost to himself. “No. If you want to learn, then I’m gonna be the one to teach you.”
Buck is pretty sure his brain stops working. “What? Why?”
Eddie turns to look at him and steps closer, their chests only a few inches apart. “Because there are people out there who will take advantage of how naïve you are. They’ll hurt you, and I won’t.” Eddie’s eyes are so intense that Buck doesn’t have any choice but to believe him. “If you want someone to do this for you, to—to dominate you, it has to be me. I don’t trust anyone else to do it right.”
pretty in pink by dykeevans (Rated E)
Buck forgets that he and Eddie made plans to hang out until Eddie shows up and Buck's in the middle of laundry day.
His laundry day outfit consists of a small pink crop top and grey sweatpants.
Eddie loses his damn mind. Me too, though, me too.
the distance to the stars by cloudydaisies (Rated G)
“Didn’t know you were seeing someone.”
Buck just laughs. Like, honest to god giggles. Eddie is stuck fighting off doubly massive waves of butterflies and confusion, all while Buck just gazes down at him.
“That’s cute,” he hears Buck mumble, just before climbing into the truck, calling Eddie after him.
-or, everyone knows eddie is dating buck except for eddie, literally.
Something Old, Something New by dumbhuman (Rated E)
“Damn, I love weddings!” Buck’s face lit up as he closed the door.
If asked later, Eddie wouldn’t have been able to explain what came over him in that moment to make him ask the question. Or, at least, he wouldn’t have wanted to explain. The exhaustion was an easy excuse, but he knew deep down that it wasn’t a real one.
“Why don’t you come with me?”
one of the few things by thatnerdemryn (Rated G)
five times that Eddie tells someone else that Buck is Christopher's legal guardian plus one time he finally tells Buck.
I Didn't Know I Was Lonely 'Til I Saw Your Face by HMSLusitania (Rated T)
Total strangers Buck and Eddie go to couple's therapy together to get out of the therapy requirements their captains have placed on them.
things we shouldn't do by Ingu (Rated T)
“Why is everybody taking my relationship status so personally? Can’t I be fine with being single?” Buck said.
“Hey, you don’t have to say yes, be sad and alone if that’s what you want,” Josh replied. “But, I’m just saying. I’ve seen photos and this guy is volcanic levels of hot. Also, single dad, super cute kid. Saves lives for a living like you. I think you should give it a go.”
(the one where Buck and Eddie accidentally get set up on a blind date with each other, and everything snowballs from there)
Keeping It In The Family by Wolves_of_Innistrad (Rated T)
A young man shows up at the firehouse looking for Buck. Turns out Javier was a Bartender with Buck in Mexico. He’s back in LA, looking to reconnect and very flirty. Cue Eddie realizing Buck is not as straight as he thought.
kiss me (like your ex is in the room) by rebeccaofsbfarm (Rated E)
Eddie Diaz gets drunk and protective and signs up for a fake double date to get back at his friend's ex.
Leave the Light On (I'll Be Coming Home) by HMSLusitania (Rated M)
An accident on a call leaves Buck with custody of Chris after Eddie is… missing presumed.
While they navigate their new family circumstances -- and fight to stay together, despite Eddie's parents' best efforts -- a John Doe wakes up in a coma ward with no memory of his own life beyond the knowledge he has a son named Christopher and, somehow, he needs to get home

Fic prompt that’s been stuck in my head for a while now!!!
So I’m not a writer and I wish I was but maybe one of you lovely fic writers will take up this prompt that I have had in my head for a while. 🙏🏼
So basically it’s an AU. Eddie is in the Army and still married to Shannon but ofc the relationship is rocky. He still gets honorably discharged after the helicopter incident from active duty. He goes home recovers and then Shannon’s mom having cancer comes up after he’s been home a bit and they decide together to move to LA. Eddie hopes the change will help their marriage. The Diaz parents also pissed them off enough lol. Instead of staying out of the military though he’s asked to take up being an army medic trainer (I’m not knowledgeable in military stuffs). Enter Buck who is still very much in his travel phase, young, and trying to find a place. Instead of SEALs he goes in Army and does boot camp and meets Eddie. How they meet on base is up to the writer but I’m sure it’s something hilarious because Buck can be a reckless idiot. Eddie doesn’t oversee Bucks training but they keep running into each other and strike up an unlikely friendship and maybe Eddie never tells Buck about Shannon. Their marriage isn’t going well, they fight all the time, Shannon also has been staying late at her job so he mostly comes home to just him and Christopher. Eddie just wants to keep work and home separate except for Christopher. Maybe Eddie tells Buck about him idk up to the writer but Buck knows he has a kid and maybe they meet. Their friendship grows to the point maybe Eddie isn’t quite honest with Shannon where he goes when he goes out to get drinks with Buck. Buck falls hard and ofc Eddie feels something but he’s married he won’t betray his wife no matter how unhappy he is but Buck doesn’t know this so maybe a line gets accidentally crossed, an explosive fight happens or Eddie gets tangled up in lies and turns away from Buck leaving him like everyone else because he feels guilty of his feelings. Buck drops out of boot camp, heart broken and goes to Peru. Eddie also heartbroken but won’t admit it stays out the rest of his training courses and then decides he can’t be there anymore and Eddie finds himself at the 118 and does some serious soul searching. Shannon finds out about Buck (Eddie never cheats though except emotionally I guess) and they divorce at some point but stay friends. Then Buck becomes the probie at the 118 and cue the pining, angst, jealousy, and hurt feelings for the boys because Buck 1.0 just strolled in and Eddie is not about it. Eventual happy ending and getting together after some drama and angst.
Maybe this is a lot but I hope one day someone will write something similar. I just have had this on my mind and maybe it will help to get it out there.

BROKEN TUMBLR ASKS PART ??: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO
@boys-love-or-bust-19507 asked: I LOVE your buddie fics! Can yo write a fic where Buck has a really tough day and Eddie and Chris take care of him?
“Alright, Special Agent Christopher, target is almost in sight. Are you ready for action?”
“Yeah!”
Eddie grinned down to his son, basking in the childlike excitement mirrored back at him for a hot second, knowing that very few things would ever compare to these moments again. He had never seen Chris click as well with anyone as he had Buck—even Carla was a close second to that, not that Eddie was about to tell her that—and honestly, there should have never been any question in his mind as to what Chris would say when Eddie told him Buck needed some help.
His smile only softened as he looked around the house—there was dinner in the oven (courtesy of Carla) and Chris had taken the initiative to pull out some of his favorite board games, stacking them neatly on the counter. Eddie had asked Bobby to rearrange their schedules for the week, and they were both going to be off the next two days, to give Buck plenty of time to recover; Chris had pulled nearly every pillow and blanket they owned into the living room, creating a huge nest with surprising skill.
The past few months had been… rough on the 118, between the bomb, the lawsuit, the accidental robbery, the list just kind of went on and on. As bad as things were for the house, though, they all weighed ten times heavier on Bucks shoulders—not for no reason, but fuck if it felt like the poor boy couldn’t catch a break.
The most recent issue had resurfaced about a month ago. They had just been wrapping up a 24 hour shift, idly shooting the shit, and Chim had mentioned that he and Maddie had a group therapy appointment. The 118 were no stranger to therapy as a whole—Eddie had gone through it, Bobby was still in it, Hen and her old life coach still met once a month after they re-connected.
“Eh, therapy doesn’t really work for me.” Buck had said, kicking his feet up and over Eddie’s lap, a move that Eddie secretly loved even if he wasn’t about to mention it. “But then again, the one session that I actually had wound up with the both of us on her couch before she would clear me to return to service, so…”
You could have heard a pin drop in the moments that followed, and Buck’s easy grin was quickly tightened into something more serious, more nervous, like he wasn’t aware of what he had said.
“Buck…” Hen spoke first, her voice low and slow, like she were talking to an animal about to flee—and if the sudden tightness of Buck’s legs beneath Eddies hands meant anything, it showed how close to the truth that analogy was. “Buck, are you saying that your therapist made you sleep with her before she cleared you?”
Buck looked honest to god confused, and Eddie just wanted to shake him.
“I mean, she didn’t force me, it just kind of… happened. That was during my Buck 1.0 days, though. You guys know I’m better than that now, Buck 2.0 is here to stay. Right? You… You guys know I’m better now, right?”
“Buck, he, no.” Eddie spoke now, his hand gently squeezing Buck’s good leg, shaking his head slowly. “If I’m understanding this, that is not on you. She took advantage of you like that, that’s… that ain’t right.” he said simply, shrugging his shoulders. Before he could speak again, offer some reassuring words, Bobby spoke up, his face tight with concern.
“Buck, why didn’t you tell any of us about that?”
Which, apparently, was the wrong thing to say.
Eddie felt Buck tense up like a snapped rubber band before he pulled himself back into an upright position, and though he missed the warmth across his lap, he was far more concerned with bracing for whatever was about to happen. Buck snorted, shaking his head, his voice clipped as he stood up, a sure sign he was in defensive mode. “Bobby, you had fired me the week before for… my indiscretions while in uniform. Forgive me if I didn’t feel like I wanted to risk my job again.”
“Buck, hang on, I didn’t mean—Buck, come back! Eddie!”
Buck had turned on his heel and almost ran out of the loft, and Eddie was quick on his tail, keeping a safe distance until they were both in the locker room. Buck whirled on him when the door closed, the anger drained out of his face, leaving a shell of panic in its place.
“Eddie, cmon, you know that I’m not like that anymore, right? I don’t do that! I’m good, I promise, I—“
Any other words were drowned out when Eddie pulled him into a hug—a risky move in and of itself, but he knew that Buck was one of the most tactile (and touch starved) people on the planet. His gamble paid off, thankfully; he immediately felt Buck’s arms encircle him, body going lax against his chest. “Buck, no one is blaming you. I’m sorry that it might seem that way. I wasn’t even here for Buck 1.0 but I still know that was not your fault, okay?”
Eddie paused, waiting until he got a muffled sound out of Buck to pull back from the hug, looking at him dead in the eye.
“Listen… Buck, I really think you should report this. She’s a doctor, she can’t just continue on like that. What she did to you wasn’t just bad, or wrong, it was illegal.”
--
In the end, five other men and two women had stepped forward after Buck made his complaint. Two cops, four firefighters, and one paramedic, all with similar stories and similar outcomes.
The only good thing about it was because they were all state employees, they were able to opt for a closed door hearing, investigation, and trial.
Buck had spent the day behind closed doors, giving his statement to a camera, then to the prosecutor, then in a closed courtroom, in front of a jury, a judge, and a very unhappy looking Dr Wells… well, Ms. Wells, now that she had her license revoked.
Eddie knew that a lot had happened, but he also knew Buck and knew that the last thing Buck would want to do all day would be continue to talk about it; so between he and Special Agent Christopher, Eddie felt sure they had a way to keep Buck’s mind far from the past all night long.
“Target inbound!”
Eddie shook away his thoughts as he heard Chris’ little voice wavering with excitement—sure enough, Buck’s Jeep had parked out front, and while they were both fully obvious from the curtains, Eddie still turned his head and made a big shushing gesture to Chris, who started to giggle.
Once they heard Buck’s key turning in the lock (yeah, Eddie had given him a key, so what?) they both pulled back, and Eddie almost burst out laughing at the faux look of shock on Buck’s face when he and Chris both yelled “surprise!”
The shock may have been fake, but there was no pretending when Buck smiled at them, the sheer joy on his face making Eddie’s shoulders sag in relief. He looked a little tired around the eyes, maybe, but he was glad that Buck was still Buck, and that this hopefully wouldn’t be weighing on him for much longer.
Chris was off, immediately, talking a mile a minute while he started to set up one of his favorite board games, and Eddie had to smiles he took Buck’s coat, resolutely ignoring how good the other male really looked in a suit. “Sorry. The only way I could really get him on board without telling him the full details was telling him you needed a surprise party to make you feel better.”
Buck put his hand up on Eddie’s shoulder, and while Eddie could have basked happily in the glow from his smile for an age and a half, he lit up like the Fourth of July when Buck leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek.
Fully aware he looked like a love struck teenager, Eddie rose a hand to his cheek when Buck pulled away, the smile on his lips shocked but pleased all at once. “What was that for?”
“For this. This is perfect, Eddie. Thank you for… well, just thanks.”
--
They had made it a few rounds into whatever the card game that Chris had picked out—Eddie still couldn’t quite wrap his mind around it, but Chris and Buck seemed to be having a good time—when the oven chirped, signaling the start of dinner; and just like that, the game was forgotten. Chris basically launched out of his chair and into the living room, announcing that it was Movie Time, and far be it for Buck or Eddie to disagree with him.
Eddie scooped out some of the baked pasta in to three different bowls while Buck raided the pantry for movie snacks, and by the time that they made it to the living room, Chris was 90% buried in blankets and pillows on the floor.
It wasn’t easy to get settled in behind him, but by the opening credits to The Incredibles were rolling, Eddie and Buck were wedged in behind Christopher in the blanket pile, relaxing against the couch, snacks disbursed between them. Chris was lost to the world outside of the movie, but Eddie could almost feel Buck tensing up beside him, winding himself back up like a spring, and well... that wouldn’t do at all.
It was amazing how much they could say without saying anything at all. Eddie raised one of his arms and gave Buck an expectant look, to which Buck shook his head, looking at Eddie like he was crazy (and blushing too, and wow, that was a treat). Eddie only rose a brow, gesturing to his now open side, and Buck stared at him, before giving up with a sigh, slowly rearranging himself as to not disturb Chris.
He slotted himself in against Eddie’s side like he fit there, and Eddie felt more than just a smug sense of victory as he put his arm around Buck, tugging him closer, gently leaning their heads together. Once Buck started to relax, he leaned in—knowing full well that Buck’s attention was anywhere but the movie—and kissed his temple, right above his birthmark.
“You did a really hard thing today, and it brought a lot of good into the world. I’m really, really proud of you, Buck.”
Buck didn’t respond—not verbally, anyway, but Eddie could feel the thousand degree stare Buck gave him when he turned his head, like he was going to stare directly into Eddies soul, search for any sign he was being sarcastic, or patronizing, not that Eddie cared. He was being completely honest, and he could see Buck’s expression falter as he realized that.
Eddie’s smile only grew as Buck scanned over his face again, though it was his turn to look surprised when Buck pulled a hand up to rest against Eddie’s cheek. Eddie leaned into it instinctively as he felt his eyes half lid, because Buck was moving again, pulling himself closer, and it was all Eddie could do to remain perfectly still, give Buck the chance to move closer or pull away, even if he wanted to flip them over right now and kiss Buck within an inch of his life.
As it was, their first kiss was perfect—Buck in his arms, Chris buried in blankets, and Edna Mode in the background. And even if the road to get there was rough, Eddie wouldn’t have changed it for the world.

Some 3x13 thoughts
Such a good episode tonight. I really loved the focus on Maddie and Chimney leading up to how the episode ends. While we’ve gotten some good development with Madney since S2 it’s always been small moments so to see Albert make Chimney re-think things and to see Chimney know the exact amount of time that he and Maddie have been together. I just loved that. Their relationship is just so wholesome and perfect and I love that everything that Maddie has been through just isn’t forgotten and that she can express herself and let herself feel things even if she can’t say “I love you”. And then to use that phrase again as a sort of SOS from Maddie to Chimney at the end of the episode. That is good writing.
This episode also focused on Michael a lot. I love the friendship that’s been formed between him and Bobby and I think that the show does such a realistic take on what a family goes through when someone is sick. The mixed emotions and the grief and all the what ifs and it’s hard and sad and I just want nothing to happen to Michael because Harry and May need their dad. I really do hope that the treatments he’s having start working or that he decides to have the surgery.
On another note, it seems that Albert is on the Buck 1.0 phase and I kinda really want Buck to find out about it and have a conversation with Albert about it.
Although the promos have all basically given away that the call center was going to be held up, we still don’t know why. We literally nothing other than that it’s happening and that the guy that attacked Josh is a part of it. That can’t be a coincidence and I just can’t wait to see why this is happening or how the first responders respond to this whole situation.
We got just a bit of Buck in this episode. But what we got was just classic Buck. Smart and quick to figure out a fix during the first call of the episode at the bowling alley when no one else can. I love that boy. Also that quip about “securing the weapon” when talking about the nail gun. So very Buck.
Eddie telling Chimney “tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone. So if you love her. Tell her” sat in well with the episode but I found it interesting that that came from Eddie when it’s not something that would relate to Shannon (since he was pretty clear about how he felt about her before her death) and I don’t think he could mean the teacher. So, solid advice, but what’s your perspective Eddie? Shipper glasses just tell me to write fic about him meaning his feelings for Buck...But we do get Eddie asking Buck out to lunch even if Buck ends up losing his appetite.
Hen also tells Athena to live each day like it’s the last and it’s a running theme in the episode and something that is very very important in light of Michael’s cancer but also in light of what happens at the end of the episode. No one can know what things may happen until they do and so any day can be your last.

9-1-1 - “Fools” thoughts
I’m not gonna write a proper review, I figured it was better to share some of the thoughts I had while and after watching the episode regarding Buddie and Josh.
Buddie keeps getting better and better. They didn’t have a ton of scenes, but we got a lot to go through:
First, we have in-sync Buddie, which is always good cause they make such a great team.
Then we get pseudo confirmation that Buck is not a hetero. YAY!
At the same time, I think we get a whole lot more in that scene: I’m pretty sure that Eddie wasn’t there, tho he is a “solo,” because it wasn’t a “bring your kid over” type of night/he had the school meeting that same night.
Then Maddie denies setting Josh and Buck up because she likes Josh too much. From this we can go with the jokey conclusion: Josh is too good for Buck, or Buck not good enough for Josh.
But we can also go with my favored one which is that Maddie has been onto Buddie since day one, so she wouldn’t want to set Josh up with his brother because Buck is clearly into Eddie, whether he realizes it or not (and I have SO many thoughts on this, maybe another time).
There’s also Maddie saying she loves Buck too much to let him “keep being so incredibly, tragically (Chim “some might say, embarrassingly”) single” which kinda doesn’t make sense. Wouldn’t you want your brother to stop being all that, if you’re qualifying singledom in such a way? Again, it adds to her being onto Buddie, cause that phrase could easily end in “unaware of his own feelings for Eddie,” or something alike, and it would’ve made ALL the sense in the world.
The Siri joke comes after, which is interesting because we know what Buck 1.0 used to be like, so to hear him say that he’s doing well and feels fulfilled shows growth. It can also indicate that, while he is dealing with the sexual part on his own, he might be getting the emotional connection somewhere else... Eddie and Chris, perhaps?
Finally, Josh and Buck talk about how hard it is out there for the solos and how they’re stuck with online dating. Again, to me this sounds like he’s completely unaware or hasn’t really connected the dots between what he has and feels for Eddie and romantic feelings. But I said I wasn’t gonna talk about this, so I will only do it once more... :P
Eddie is navigating school, and he thanks Carla for going with him. I love Carla, I’m so glad she’s around.
Let me tell you something, Eddie making eyes at the teacher feels a bit over the top. Like, IDK, maybe it’s just me, but it is A Lot. Don’t get me wrong, Ana is gorgeous and I get lusting over her at first sight, but Eddie has ZERO chills about it, which seems unlike him.
The whole scene is off to me, her guessing his name right, the whole “he was my favorite” - “mine too,” the compliments to Eddie for reading, “I’m sure you’re no slouch.”
Then Eddie plays dumb with Carla, the whole blue/brown eyes thing expose him, and I’m still here thinking, that is too much all at once.
It goes on with the skateboard accident, which is also over the top. I get worrying about your kid being injured, even going super overprotective about it, but Eddie is waaaaaaay rude to Ana. Like, he goes from 100 to -164876413 in no time. The fact that he knew her by that point should’ve made him react more calmly, specially knowing Chris was fine and didn’t actually feel the need to leave school at all. But I guess TPTB needed that unnecessary bit of drama there...
I’m so VERY glad Carla’s around, saying the exact right thing. Eddie really needed to hear both that Chris knows he’s different and that it’s up to Eddie to teach him what that means. Eddie refuses to tell Chris he has limitations, which is interesting considering a certain Buck’s thoughts...
Chris lets him know it was his idea to try skateboarding, encouraged by Eddie’s own words that Chris can do anything.
The worst date is hilarious, and Buck starts commiserating saying he knows how hard it is to meet someone as a fellow solo, yet ends up focusing on Eddie’s drama...
We go from the worst date happy ending, where the transition goes: (heart emoji) is messy but also (party hat with confetti and an opening bottle of champagne) with the right person.
To Buck and Eddie sharing a bottle of beer. Can I just say both boys look gorgeous in this scene?
And so we get a co-parenting moment. A lot could be said about Eddie’s joke, but I won’t now.
Buck is right to point out that Eddie might be overcorrecting, which takes me back to 14 and 15. Buck thinks, like Eddie, that Chris is capable of doing anything and he brings up an example from a sport Eddie knows to point out that just because Chris can’t do something the way everybody else does, it doesn’t meant he can’t do it at all. So we finish the scene with a pensive Buck, whose gears are turning trying to come up with what we’ll see at the end.
Eddie has a talk with Chris, which speaks for itself.
When Eddie tells Chris, "you’re my kid,” it gave me flashbacks to Buck seeing Chris’ picture after finding out Eddie had a son, and saying he loves kids and Eddie saying he loves that one.
Eddie goes to apologize to Ana, in what’s actually the only scene between them that doesn’t feel like TPTB are overdoing it. Ana basically says the opposite of what Eddie and Buck have been saying this whole episode. Her train of thought is: if you fail at something, it might lead you to some other things, which might be even better. It’s a silver lining type of thinking, and it’s fine, but it’s not what happens this episode with Chris.
At the end, we have a happy family, trying something new together.
Josh: I was really upset that they brought him front and center only to have him be beaten up that way. Then I read some of the actor’s tweets, and I’m guessing that he’s gonna encounter the bully (I’ll go with “bully” till I can think of something better) again, only this time it’ll be on a 9-1-1 call. So we’ll ge the whole Josh is going to help him despite knowing that it’s the bully, how great of him, yada yada.
So I am still upset because:
Society shouldn’t be at a point where people need to be reminded by TV shows that they shouldn’t be assholes towards anyone ever cause you might need them eventually. People shouldn’t be assholes to anyone ever, period.
The people ~wronged by the aforementioned assholes shouldn’t need to prove they’re good to the assholes and in spite of the bad things that were done to them. They’re good people, or they’re not, but the whole high road thing is tiresome. Be like Carol Danvers!

Review: Mazda CX-30 Mild-Hybrid
The lockdown is in effect. I’m at home, wishing I was being productive at work. So if I can’t talk to you in the showroom about my favourite new cars, I’ll bring them to you.
Introducing the all-new Mazda CX-30 Mild-Hybrid.
When Mazda announced a new SUV for the European market, bigger than the CX-3 and smaller than the CX-5, you would be forgiven for expecting the CX-4. However, that name is already taken by a car built exclusively in China.
Introducing the Mazda CX-30. And it is a thing of beauty.
Based on the architecture of the award-winning all-new Mazda 3, the CX-30 uses many of the same parts at its core. But the CX-30 is fractionally shorter, and as expected with an SUV, sits significantly higher with a comfortable upright seating position.
Mazda are on their self-proclaimed; “Road To Premium”. Their new products are no longer aimed at taking customers from the likes of Ford and Toyota, but offering an alternative to German giants; Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz - And they do it well, but for significantly less.
Looks: Based on aesthetics alone, you can see how. The approach is distinctly Asian design house, but with the stereotypical big front grill that is so popular with its new European target audience. The lines are characteristically Mazda, flowing from their KODO school of design.
The new Mazda 3, and now the Mazda CX-30, have taken ques from Scandinavian simplicity. Gone are the individual fog lights, gone are additional pseudo-sporty plastic grills, and gone is the Shark fin antenna from the roof. The CX-30 imitates the Mazda 3’s stunning sleek design, and adds a practical SUV ruggedness.
Interior: If you thought the exterior was eye-catching, the interior of the Mazda CX-30 is one of the best cabins in its class. Arguably the best cabin in any class. Interiors have been something Mazda has excelled at for years.
The seats are comfortable and supportive, the materials feel high grade, the touchscreen is easy to use, and the lines flow perfectly. It’s simply a nice place to be.
Mazda believe in cabins being “driver-centric”. And as soon as you take a seat, you’ll see what they mean. The cabin has been created around the driver, ensuring every journey is comfortable. Not one of my customers has complained about discomfort in these.
Second, the touchscreen doesn’t need to be a touchscreen - which in my opinion is great. Mazda continue to use the MZD dial, next to the gearbox. This feel much more up-market than prodding at a display, it becomes intuitive almost immediately, and it also means you’ll never get sticky fingerprints all over your shiny new screen.
The software works perfectly. Using the MZD dial it flows easily from page to page, and the dashboards sleek looks owe a nod of thanks to this display. Hiding all the buttons for the CX-30’s high-tech features on pages for when they’re needed and hidden for when they’re not.
Engines: This is where it gets interesting.
Mazda have been bucking the trend for years. While other brands like VW and Ford have been putting tiny 1.0 turbo charged engines into larger and larger vehicles, Mazda have fitted a choice of two efficient 2.0 petrol engines – more on that in a moment.
First let’s answer that question; “if everyone else is doing it, why don’t Mazda?” Well, in laboratory conditions small turbo petrol engines make sense. However, in reality they are never as efficient on the road. It’s the equivalent of putting a plaster over the emissions problem and hoping it will go away. Instead, Mazda introduced us to ‘SkyActiv’ technology, a new design philosophy. In layman’s terms; by improving every facet of the car in order to improve quality and economy. Rather than a small turbo engine having to work hard under strain, and pouring away petrol, the larger Mazda engine is unstressed and refined. Not only is it quieter than its three-cylinder competitors, but Mazda believe it will have a longer life.
Now, back to the other question; “Why two 2.0 petrol engines?”. Along with Mazda’s most popular engine, the ‘SkyActiv-G’ 2.0 petrol, Mazda have introduced a brand-new engine: the ‘SkyActive-X’ 2.0 Petrol.
The difference: ‘Spark Controlled Compression Ignition’. This is something other companies have tried time-and-time again and failed. I could write at length about how it works, but I’d only bore or bewilder most readers. What it means to you, the driver, is that the ‘SkyActiv-X’ engine offers the free-revving power and refinement of a petrol, with the improved economy and reduced CO2 emissions of a diesel. Which also means lower Benefit-In-Kind tax for company car drivers.
‘SkyActiv-G’ 2.0 Petrol Mild-Hybrid: 120 BHP / 45.6 MPG (WLTP)
‘SkyActiv-X’ 2.0 Petrol Mild Hybrid: 180 BHP / 47.9 MPG (WLTP)
The Competition: It would be easy to compare the CX-30 with Crossovers & SUV’s from other brands; Audi’s Q3 (from £31,295) or the BMW X2 (From £29,725), but it simply isn’t a fair comparison. The Mazda is a fraction of the price (‘SEL’ from £22,895).
What you are getting is similar quality, but for a car that shares a similar price to its hyphenated cousins in the every-man category; VW’s T-Roc, Kia’s XCeed, and Honda’s H-RV.
Nowadays, only a handful of my customers walk into a showroom and buy a new car with cash, so talking about ‘price’ feels redundant. Really, we should be talking about cost. The new Mazda CX-30 is available from Leslies Motors on PCP, HP, or Lease. I often show my customers how these compare – I’d be happy to explain, you only have to ask.
Needless to say, a car that looks as good as this has desirability, and therefore holds a strong residual value. What this means to you, the buyer, is that you could have a car of this quality for significantly less a month than something that loses more of its value. It’s also worth noting, that although the new ‘SkyActiv-X’ Mild-hybrid engine adds almost £1,500 to the price, it adds only £2 a month to the cost a lease.
Choices:
The Value Choice: Mazda CX-30 ‘SEL’ 2.0 SkyActiv-G 2.0 Manual Mild-Hybrid.
The Range Topper: Mazda CX-30 ‘GT Sport Tech’ SkyActiv-X 2.0 Automatic Mild-Hybrid All-Wheel Drive.
Leslies Motors Favourite: Mazda CX-30 ‘Sport Lux’ 2.0 SkyActiv-X Manual Mild-Hybrid.
Verdict:
Every brand worth its salt have at least one Crossover or SUV, and Mazda have proven time after time - with the CX-3, CX-5, and now the CX-30 - that they know what driver’s want. The Mazda CX-30 is smooth, refined, and its striking looks set it apart from the competition. Customers putting the CX-30 against the well-known European equivalents are going to be wonder what the extra money is being spent on - Personally, I think Mazda’s road to premium should have more expensive brands will have worried.
Test drive Leslies Motors Mazda CX-30 demonstrator to see for yourself.

Same! I couldn’t even finish all the movies until like last year when I saw them all in one go smh
Yeah!! I keep thinking about how the age diferences affect their dynamics and about the fact that most of them have children and how that’s an important part of who they are (and why I believe there aren’t a lot of highschool or college aus in the fandom to begin with) so it would be weird to write them as teenagers. And that’s why I think (also bc I don’t want them to die ahah) I don’t headcanon them all in the games.
My initial thought was buck as the main character and he’s around 18, the last year you can be reaped, iirc. I think he’s got that dramatic flair and he’s reckless enough with his emotions to be a “good Katniss”, if that makes sense.
And I also thought of Chris in the games too?? Don’t kill me, but Chris being picked and Eddie (his older brother maybe?) trying to volunteer in his stead but he’s over the age limit, so Chris is taken away?? I can’t get that scene out of my head tbh
Buck sees the video of what happened at the reaping ceremony in Chris and Eddie’s district, sees how hard Eddie fought for Chris and can’t stop thinking about it.
When training starts, he finds himself being drawn to Chris and his positive attitude despite his abysmal odds, and decides that if he’s going to fight, if he’s going to go in the arena and kill other kids, it’s going to be to protect Chris. He’s gonna make sure Chris wins and goes back to that man that fought so much to save him. He’s got no one back home who would miss him, he hasn’t seen Maddie in years and his parents don’t care.
Bobby is Haymitch in this?
There’s a tsunami at some point and buck and Chris are separated, maybe?
The game ends with buck, Chris and another tribute as the final three and much like Rue, as Buck kills the other tribute, Chris is hit in the chest with an arrow. Then, bc I don’t want either of them to die, Buck threatens to kill himself. Says there will be no winner if they do not rescue Chris immediately? Idk
I think the other characters would come in the equivalent of catching fire. As previous winners of the games. Athena as the baddass everyone knew was going to win. Chim as the underdog who somehow survived everyone else dying. Hen using her brilliant mind to set up traps and survive. Maddie is either with buck from the start or he finds her in the capitol after she moved there to be with Doug. That would also be cool to explore. And I think that unlike Katniss and Peeta, Buck would actually join the rest of the previous winners in the parties and stuff. If not for the fact that he’s attractive and if he’s under president snow’s radar for what he did at the games and snow wants to show him he can control him, so he parades him around for the capitol people, and that’s how buck gets close to the other winners before the games the following year. Is Eddie a former winner? Idk. Is Eddie part of the resistance? Is the twist of the quarter quell different this year? Are the relatives of former winners sent into the games? Leading to most of them volunteering as tribute in their place? 🤔
Or!!! The story starts with catching fire, buck as the winner of the 74th hg and now meeting all the former winners, the firefam.
Or Eddie takes Katniss’ role? He volunteers in Chris’ place. And Buck is more like Finnick? I thought about this bc of Buck’s whole Buck 1.0 thing. Maybe Maddie is the one being threatened like Annie was? (Damn I read the books 8 years ago, I’m surprised I remember the names of the characters 😆)
Orr they’re all just in that universe and don’t participate in the games, they’re part of the resistance?
Like, I could go on forever and I feel like already did but yeah, this could be such a long au and I can’t stop thinking of different scenarios now that you turned the question on me 😂
And yeah, same also for the divergent au. I think it could work better for them but I also liked THG more 😁
Would you ever write a hunger games au (for 911)?
Oh my god the books were AMAZING. Movie stans, stay away from me for this post lmao.
I haven’t read them in so long that me writing a 911 AU would probably result in something not done right. And Suzanne Collins wrote about a lot of issues when she created the world of The Hunger Games, none of which ended up in the movie (which proved her original point).
ANYWAY, if I got the chance to move on from the 15 other WIPs under my belt. I probably would, trying to keep the original point of the social issues in her book alive in the AU as well. Truly! It would be AMAZING to see the 118 firefam in that intricate world.
Who do you think would be the central character? Like, Katniss’ counterpart?
There’d be a lot of logistics though. A lot of logistics. It’d be worth spending some time, but I would actually lean more towards a Divergent AU. I’m not quite sure why but for 911, I feel Divergent fits them super well 🤔🤔 though I didn’t like Divergent as much as I liked THG. I might have to re-read them now to form a valid opinion xD
Thanks for the ask!
Send me a “would you ever write” ask! 🥰❤️
#pls#someone shut me up#also pls someone write this so i can read it#911#fanfic#zeethebooknerd#hg au

Sharing is caring! We love to consume content. We want to stay updated, know all the latest happenings around the world. Content gives us a leeway to strike a conversation with others as well as get sharing information. In the 21st Century, with so many things interconnected, a lot of stories are generated every other minute. While early on, it would’ve been impossible to keep track of all the happenings, with the Internet you get a safe harbor to access them. Probably not all at once, but you can access them in the future. Blogging has been instrumental in the Internet’s development and its hold over content creation and consumption. People have different experiences and stories to tell, and blogging gives you a platform for your stories. The development of the internet, from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0, shifted its focus from sharing content to focus more on user-generated content. Blogging usually involves sharing your personal opinions and experiences. You can blog for a non-profit reason, keeping a journal of sorts, sharing it with your friends and acquaintances. Or, you can make for-profit blogs sharing your expertise on a certain subject. You might want to jump on the bandwagon of blogging. After all, everyone has a story to tell. In that case, we bring you a list of 21 Best Free Blogging Platforms to Start your Blog in 2020. #1. WordPress.com It is noteworthy to mention the fact that WordPress powers about 30% of the internet. They must be doing something to have such a share of the pie. And that is thanks to two reasons: Easy-to-use and build interface. Lots of customizability options to choose form. WordPress is offered in two variants: one is WordPress.com, and another is WordPress.org. The difference being the latter is used for the self-hosted blog for which you have to buy your hosting service and domain name. Both of these involve shelling some bucks out. This hosting problem is not the case with WordPress.com. They have designed the interface as such that you can easily set up your blog within minutes. The basic blog is stocked with all the basic features to create your first post. Although the drawback of the platform is that you won’t be able to use a wide range of plugins and themes that are available on the marketplace; plus you don’t have the full claim of your blog, your blog must abide by the rules of WordPress. And in any case, if you violate their ToC, they can straightaway suspend your website. The reasons are often ambiguous, and one is in constant fear of getting all the hard work flushed down the drain. #2. Blogger First developed by Pyra Labs in ‘99 and then sold to Google in ‘03, Blogger has seen its share of development over the years. Having the Google stamp over the product means that you get a quality assurance on par with Google’s other products like Google Drive. With the help of Google account, you can easily sign and start creating your first blog post. It is easy to use and self-explanatory in design. You don’t need to know the code aspect to redesign, although Google provides you with the HTML codes to tweak around. Being backed by Google brings another benefit. It has a very good up-time, and your blog would rarely go down. Plus with the help of Google’s cloud services, you can easily save thousands of images and video data relating to the website. However, there are two major drawbacks: It doesn’t offer you many options to customize. Layouts restrict you. Google is known to discard their products in a flash (Orkut, Google Plus). Although there are very fewer chances of Blogger going offline soon, there is still a possibility. #3. Wix Chances that a Wix ad has greeted you by now are quite high. Wix is a recently launched service. However, they are targeting first-time users who want to start their content-based blogs and websites. And as such, they have created tools and mechanisms that are user-friendly and can get you started ASAP. It uses a drag-and-drop mechanism to customize your website, and also provides you with the HTML code just in case you want to develop it at a more atomic scale. Unlike Blogger, it offers you about 500 designs to choose from. Although once selected, you can’t change the theme again. It also doesn’t allow you to install new features. With a free account, you get 500 MB each of the bandwidth and storage capacity. Enough if you are not running a media-intensive website. Also, with the free version, you will have a Wix marking on your website. And a Wix subdomain and not a top-level-domain like .com. #4. Tumblr Tumblr was made for the entire process of writing and expressing ideas easier. You don’t have to worry about hosting and all; you should focus on content that you want to share among the Tumblr community. Insanely popular amongst the teens, especially people belonging to a certain trope or fandom, you can easily connect with new people on the platform. The entire purpose of the platform is to create content and re-blog/share content made by other users/bloggers. It is more of a microblogging website centered around sharing, and not exclusive to written content. You can share almost anything, ranging from GIFs to images, without the need to write content. This option might repel some bloggers looking forward to writing content, but it promises you a good audience to pitch your content. Major drawbacks include: harder to take backup and import, and not many customizability options available. #5. Medium If you are a blogger looking to work your way around with words and seeking people who are interested in the same, Medium is the platform for you. Like-minded essayists, columnists, and bloggers usually visit the platform. Started in 2012 by one of the Twitter founders, it gives you a WYSIWYG editor through which you can easily put your content out. It follows a system synonymous with Facebook, where instead of a like button, they provide you with a clap button to rate the articles. It also follows a tag system that splits the story into different categories so that users can choose which category they want to read first specifically. It also comes with a total time read widget, which helps users to know how much time they will require to go through it. You can see how they designed features to attract readers. The benefits are: You don’t have to code. You can easily get an audience that wants to read the content. You don’t have to waste time designing a website. But the negatives are: Medium essentially provides you with an account. So if they disband your account, you lose all your content as well as your users. You also can’t monetize your audience through ads, although affiliate marketing can be used effectively. #6. Quora Quora can be said to be a glorified Yahoo Answers. While Yahoo Answers was not able to control spam questions and answers, which led to a drop in credibility, Quora has managed to control this issue. It is by far the #1 Q&A website. Unlike Yahoo Answers, you can follow others on Quora and create your following. You can get your question answered by popular people and get posed by questions from others. They are trying to expand their business by providing users with the ability to create their blog. Once you build a good following by answering the questions, you can have readers for your blog, and start writing for them. You can even become an authoritative person in a sub-niche such as blogging. Quora doesn’t provide you with options of customizability; you have to stick to their default template. You are provided with an editor to write your content. If you want to focus on writing content and not about anything else, this can serve you perfectly. #7. Weebly Coming on the lines of Wix, Weebly is a web-hosting service that lets you create blogs on the go. With the help of a drag-and-drop builder, you can easily customize the major elements of the website. They have designed their service so that you don’t have to break a sweat while designing the website. It gives you different customizable layouts and free themes to choose from. Even if you don’t want to buy the premium version, you still have the option to give their service a run. There are several cons, though: Integration with 3rd party apps is hard. Ads are present in the free version. exporting the website is difficult. #8. Yola Yola is a simple and straightforward service. You don’t get many pages to create and edit: you get about two websites and three pages to do your job. But on the positive end, you get about 1GB of capacity and bandwidth. So if you are making use of product landing pages, this might work fine in your favor. Configuring and designing pages is easy and straightforward. Adding to the mix are drag-and-drop-widgets and customizable layouts, and visually, you can create your blog appealing. Plus, you also get the option to edit the CSS if you want to get your hands dirty in coding and tweaking. #9. Drupal Drupal is one of the most well-known website builders in the industry. Dries Buytaert developed it in May of 2000 as an open-source content-management framework that can hold your content in streamlined order. It gives you better reliability and performance, along with security. Drupal is not as popular as WordPress or Blogger, but it has its active community, which develops modules for it. Thanks to this community, there are a lot of themes to dabble with, plus you also have modules to enhance the functionality of the blog. On the downside, you need to know the technical aspects of Drupal quite well to start working with it. If you are a newbie foraying into blogging, learning technical stuff to start blogging is something you might not like. It also works slower compared to other customized platforms like Blogger. #10. SquareSpace Squarespace has sponsored a good number of videos on YouTube. But while they promote their service like crazy, they also offer you a service at the same standards. It is easy to use and offers you a lot of options. Seriously, a lot. From building personal blogs to create a web store, you can get it done easily and quickly with SquareSpace. The best part is that it comes with different themes to choose from. You need to tweak a little bit here and there, and you are ready to go live with your blog. So if you are a newbie blogger who wants to create a good looking blog without the hassle of getting into technicalities, you should give SquareSpace a look. You don’t have to worry about the host, as SquareSpace does the hosting part by itself. It comes with a 14-day trial period, after which plans start from $24-$48 per month. #11. Joomla One of the industry veterans: Joomla is an open-source content management service almost on par with WordPress. Like WordPress, users can log on to the backend of the website from where they can customize the content as they want. You have a healthy number of themes and add-ons to choose from to further enhance your blog, although the community is not that diverse as that of WordPress. It is a capable service with more options to customize your website compared to WordPress. Point to note here is that it is a self-hosted service, and you will require a hosting service and domain name to go along. So, although Joomla is free to use, you will need to spend bucks on hosting it. #12. Google Sites This service from Google is intended to target business users. It promotes data sharing and real-time collaboration among different users. That is, users can edit the same set of content and see which user has edited what content. It gives you a structured wiki-type website. If you have a Google account, you can easily sign-in and create your own blog/website. It follows a drag and drop mechanism, so you don’t have to dip yourself in coding. Plus, two of its best features are: It is responsive, looks great across different devices. It can be easily incorporated with other Google applications like Google Calendar and Google Docs. Although two major drawbacks are: The inability to add AdSense ads on your website. Few customizable options. #13. HubPages Founded by three ex-Microsoft employees, HubPages is a user-generated content aggregator website. Users are known as hubbers who provide content in the form of an article (known as hubs) to the website. The best part about this platform is that if your article generates enough traffic, you also get paid. To earn an income, you need to have a valid AdSense account. If you don’t have an AdSense account, you can apply for one after submitting 10-15 hubs. You get paid by the number of clicks you get on the ad. Once the earnings reach $50, you are paid. HubPages had acquired Squidoo, one of its major competitors, and now remains the top in its sub-domain, although they have shifted their approach from a single-site to multi-site. You don’t get to customize much, as all the posts follow a standard styling. #14. SimpleSite As the name suggests, it is a no-nonsense website builder. It compromises some of its customizability options for easy to set up features. While you are setting up, you have been provided with the option to create for personal uses or business uses to set up your blog effectively. It offers you a simple theme and not a lot of options to customize. It is a great service for first-time bloggers. It is also mobile-friendly so that you don’t lose the audience from a different platform. If you are planning to scale your website in terms of an increase in the audience this won’t be able to give you many options on that front either. It offers you a very limited set of features. Also, the support is quite a lackey, although you would rarely require one. #15. TypePad TypePad is one of the industry veterans. Started in 2003, it still enjoys niche popularity among a selected few. It is simple in design and easy to manipulate, one of the reasons why major companies like MSNBC, ABC, BBC, Sky News use the service for their weblogs. The product was made for non-technical users with essential features like the ability to add photo albums, mobile blogging support, and multiple author support. Other essential features include amazing customer support, easy tools to design, several design templates to choose from, easy to upload photos and manipulate sidebar with widgets. You can’t upload your website’s banner or change the colors of the blog unless you have a plus account. For further customization, you are given access to the CSS code, but for that, you will require a pro account. #16. Jimdo Jimdo’s website building service is targeted toward personal use and small business owners. These types of people aren’t interested in getting into the complexities of running a website from the ground up. As such, Jimdo has tried to make its website building service as smooth as it can. You can either make it through the Jimdo Creator, which is an interface based on drag-and-drop format. You can click on sections, and replace the content with your content. It also offers you another option: Jimdo Dolphin. It is an artificial design intelligence solution. You need to answer some questions, and the AI will build a website for you. Best features include the ability to tweak your website’s overall SEO, one of the simplest website builders, ability to create a blog on the mobile app. But like some of the other services on this website, it compromises its easy to use nature with a lack of templates. You also don’t get a preview option; changes once made will automatically be applied to the live blog. #17. Angelfire Angelfire is the godfather of all website building services. It predates most of them present in the list. It is so old that when Mark Zuckerberg was 15, created one of his first blog on the website. On the front, they offer you over 200 templates to choose from, drag and drop builder interface, and a free plan to choose. Although the sad part is that quite a lot of things are going against it. Themes are not responsive and also not up to standard to what websites use these say. This shortcoming means there is no mobile version of your website. If you were to see their social media presence, their last tweets and posts were from 2012, and after that, it feels like an abandoned place. The bottom line is this: Angelfire would have appealed to people in 1996 when there were not a lot of options to tweak. But they have failed to keep up with the progress in web development. #18. Diigo Diigo is quite different in its approach. You don’t create content. You instead collect links from the internet and store it on a single page. You can bookmark and tag web pages for future access. Once you bookmark links, you can annotate certain parts of the webpage and highlight webpages. You can attach sticky notes to these highlighted areas or the entire webpage. After you create your bookmarks, you can choose to share them with other people; they have aimed to make Diigo a social-networking website. So it can do a great job when collaborating with other people to research on certain topics. One of the best features included in the premium section, where pages once annotated, will be with you forever — no matter whether that specific webpage exists at the source or not. Diigo can come in handy for you when searching for topics and content for your next blog. #19. Splash Splash is an event management service. It won’t appeal to users looking to build personal blogs and websites, but if you are planning to have a platform for your event, this can do a good job. A good number of Fortune 500 companies use Splash. And Splash’s approach is to maximize user conversion. It achieves this by providing users with analytics at each stage. It can also be incorporated with 3rd party applications like Slack and Salesforce for better hold on your marketing process. You can also track your events’ progress through the dashboard present in the Splash. Developing web pages is easy with Splash, and it provides you with a drag and drop builder and beautiful looking responsive designs so that your brand credibility stays put without compromising on putting in too much effort. It also gives you responsive themes to choose from that work amazing across all platforms, especially mobile platforms. #20. LiveJournal As the name suggests, with this website, you can create your own journal. The company claims that the service is the middle ground between blogging and social networking. It allows users to create journals that can then be shared with other people based on the restriction level. You can also keep your journal entirely private, making it work as a diary as well. You also get the option to join communities where you can share your journals among like-minded people. It has a friends page as well, which broadcasts other people’s journals. Kind of like how facebook’s social feed works. You also get the ability to change the user’s profile picture for each blog post. LiveJournal might not be that popular in 2019, but some of the communities have other 100,000 users in it and can be used to socialize with other people. #21. Hatena Hatena is a Japanese owned company, and its blog service is targeted to personal use. They want users to share the daily experiences for others and themselves as well, as they can check their blog in the future, in which case it will act as a journal. You can easily write and incorporate data such as images, videos, and even additional information like restaurant information to your blog post. You can also import tweets and bookmarks. It also gives you the ability to revert the changes you made while writing. It provides you with a set of good looking themes which you can edit from your desktop computer and your phone. Plus, you also get to set a restriction on who can read your blog post. The only drawback here is that since it is made by a Japanese company, you might have to face some issues to move around. Although, it claims that the service keeps in touch with all the latest developments, and constant updates are there. Conclusion Phew! So that was a massive list of free blogging platforms you can choose in 2020. You have to sort out your priorities and select the one platform that provides you with more benefits than the negatives it provides you.
