A Kiss a Day in May
Day 12- Goodnight Kisses
Jango & The Alpha Batch
Each day this month I have a 100 word drabble featuring a different clone with a kiss prompt. Not all are romantic and they include all sorts of pairings and relationships. Feel free to offer pairing/ character suggestions for future days.
Become the Clone template they said. We’ll pay you fortunes beyond your dreams they said. You’ll get to train the best army in the galaxy they said. Well now Jango was standing at the head of a line of 100 children dressed in their pajamas, many of them holding plushies as they each stepped forward to get their goodnight kiss pressed gently into their forehead.
“Goodnight Maze, Goodnight 84, Goodnight Spar, Goodnight 99, Goodnight Spar- wait, brat go to bed! You already got your kiss. 17 no, don’t… Ugh.” Jango grumbled as 17 started brawling with Spar on the floor.

You know the thing about me is, if i found myself in the Star Wars universe during the clone wars my priorities would not be expose Palpatine and fix the galaxy, that’s just out of my hands. Nae, my priority would be to wife up an arc trooper and convince them all to rebel so we can settle down on a forest planet far far away. That my friends is do-able for me

Alpha-17, holding Maze’s face in his hands: My perfect precious baby brother. My beautiful younger sibling. My delightful gem of a kinsman. My—
Maze: Let go of me and never call me those things again, for the love of god.
Alpha: Nnnnnnooo.
Zey: I hate to interrupt, but I believe Ordo’s skull has been fractured.
Alpha: Walk it off.
Zey: You put him through five walls and a decorative mosaic (which I am not sure why we even fucking had).
Alpha: He deserved it.
Maze: He hit me once, and not even as hard as you did.
Zey: He could very well die.
Alpha: Good. Who’s my precious, perfect, beautiful, intelligent, adorable little baby brother? Who’s better than those nasty Nulls?
Maze: You’re doing this to mock me, stop it. Also, I don’t like Ordo at all, but I don’t want him dead.
Zey: Fuck it, I’m taking him to the medbay. Anyone want to help me lug him or…
Maze: I DO NOT NEED TO BE WRAPPED IN COTTON AND LOCKED IN A SAFE
Alpha: Yes you do. You’re helpless.
Maze: I AM A COMPETENT ADULT WHO WENT THROUGH THE SAME FUCKING TRAINING AS YOU
Alpha: Sure, but you’re still helpless. Like a baby shaak.
Maze: I AM NOT EVEN IN THE EIGHTIES YOU ASSHOLE
Maze: FORDO IS YOUNGER THAN ME
Zey: Ordo, you’re extremely lucky to be unconscious.
Maze: I AM NOT A CADET AND I DO NOT NEED TO HAVE MY HAND HELD
Maze: WHY IS EVERYONE CONVINCED I CAN’T TAKE CARE OF MYSELF
Maze: I AM A GODDAMN ARC TROOPER LIKE HALF THE PEOPLE IN THIS ROOM
Alpha: Yes, but Ordo punched you.
Maze: This is going to be your talking point for the next year, isn’t it.
(Or, what would happen if Maze commed his brothers during Triple Zero.)

Coruscanta (Coruscant)
Tumblr media
“Are you okay, neverd’ika?” Alpha asked, resting a hand over the fists you had clenched in your lap.
You mustered a smile. “Yes, I’m fine. This is just… the first time I’ve left Kamino since I got here. It feels strange to be leaving. To have left.”
Watching the water-covered surface of Kamino disappear into the distance had been a nerve-wracking experience. Alpha had asked several times if you were afraid of hyperspace travel, clearly picking up on your discomfort, but you had truthfully told him that you had no problem with hyperspace flights.
No, leaving Kamino made you think of a permanent departure. Despite your best efforts, it would probably happen soon. Jaiss had asked about scheduling a meeting when you were on Coruscant, and you were sure that she wanted to speak with you about finalizing the report.
The trip from Kamino to Coruscant was not quick or easy. There were numerous star systems that you had to skirt around, and the gravity wells would only grow denser as you approached the Core Worlds.
Fortunately, the Republic had authorized one of their faster ships, and you were granted access to the Corellian Run hyperspace lane. Even so, the trip would take roughly three days. You were scheduled to spend a full week on Coruscant, but with your own ship, that time could be lengthened or shortened as needed depending on how the trial went.
Trial.
Your stomach twisted every time the word floated to the surface of your mind.
“Breathe,” Alpha murmured, thumb rubbing over the stark peaks of your straining knuckles.
The two of you were in the small seating area between the cockpit and the bunks. There were two pilots in the cockpit, which was designed to stay enclosed. You had been quietly amused by that when you stepped aboard - did the Republic think there was a risk that you and Alpha would have stolen the ship and disappeared if left to your own devices?
Fortunately, you had thought better of it before you pointed that out to Alpha. The idea of being a suspect for desertion probably wouldn’t have struck him as being as funny as it did to you.
There was a small kitchen opposite the seating area. It was little more than a flash-reheater, a conservator, and a sink, but it meant that you wouldn’t be eating ration bars for the entirety of your journey, so you thought it was beautiful.
When you had peeked into the barracks, it had held four bunks, but Alpha had already informed you that the pilots would switch off. Each one would get eight hours to sleep, then they would share the cockpit for another eight before the cycle continued.
You had been a little awed when you asked Alpha how he knew. He had scoffed lightly. “Standard troopers are trained to follow orders, not to think for themselves. Pilots can be a little more difficult to anticipate, but not much. They’ll stick to that schedule because it’s how they were instructed, and how the regulations say to work a flight of this length.”
There was a lot in that statement that made you want to ask questions, but you were preoccupied by other matters. All you had caught was that they had a definite routine, which meant that you and Alpha were free to spend as much time together as you wanted. As long as you tracked when the pilots were due to be passing through on their way to the bunks, you would probably be fine.
“Are there recorders on Republic transports?” you asked suddenly. It was such a natural continuation of your internal thoughts that it seemed plain to you, but Alpha gave you a strange look. “Visual or audio?”
“Of course,” he confirmed. “The Republic wants to know everything that happens aboard one of their ships, and if the ship is attacked, they want to know what happened.”
“Do you still have your disruptor puck?” you asked, much quieter.
Alpha nodded. “Never go anywhere without it.”
“I’m surprised they haven’t figured you out yet,” you said, unable to keep the note of admiration out of your voice.
“They may have,” Alpha said with a shrug. “But no one wants to formally call me out on it. If they did, they would have to admit that there is a way to disrupt their recording devices. The damage that knowledge would do is much worse than anything I might be doing while they can’t observe me.”
“You know, we have several days with nothing else to do,” you pointed out, watching the shadows cast by hyperspace form under Alpha’s raised eyebrow. “You could teach me how to make a disruptor of my own.”
“I could,” Alpha agreed, in a leading tone that made you narrow your eyes at him. “But you’ll have to do something for me in return.”
For a wild moment, you thought Alpha was going to say something lascivious. Admittedly, you were intrigued, but it would be tricky to avoid the pilots…
Then he said, “You have to show me civvie life on Coruscant.”
The surprise made you blink at him, but you valiantly tried to recover. “Civilian life, really? I thought you weren’t interested.”
“I don’t trust you to choose a holofilm anymore, but the rest of it?” Alpha shrugged. “You’re the expert. And you lived on Triple Zero for a while. I trust you to show me what I should see.”
Possibilities raced through your mind. It had been a while since you were last on Coruscant, but it would be nice to show Alpha some of your favorite places… “Okay, that sounds like fun! It’s a deal.”
Alpha nodded, but his eyes were fixed on yours with an intensity that made you nervous. “What did you think I was going to ask?”
You felt your face heat and reflexively looked away. “Nothing.”
That, of course, didn’t work. With a renewed interest sharpening his voice, Alpha leaned forward and pressed, “Didn’t seem like nothing. Seemed like you had something very specific in mind.”
You shook your head, still refusing to look at him. “Nope, it was definitely nothing.”
Alpha gave a skeptical hum, letting his thigh press more heavily against yours. “Too bad. Though you were gonna be brave. Tell me, me’copaani?”
Alpha must have influenced you more than you thought. Being lightly accused of cowardice put you on-edge, and then the soft entreaty to tell him what you wanted? You couldn’t help but respond.
You rested your hand on Alpha’s thigh in a way that could have been casual, if it weren’t so high up toward the juncture of his legs. He gave a low groan.
You met his eyes and lifted a brow, your lips curving into a playful smile. “Maybe it’ll be another fun civvie thing to show you once we get to Coruscant.”
Alpha’s spine stiffened slightly as you leaned into his lap to give him a kiss, but he returned it eagerly. When you pulled back, he tried to follow, stopping only when you turned your head away teasingly.
“Anytime,” he growled fervently. “Just tell me where and when. I’ll make it happen.”
You laughed, giving his thigh a squeeze and a pat before you removed your hand. “For now, let’s just focus on those disruptors.”
That work kept you busy over the next few days, especially since you could only work on it while the pilots were in the cockpit or the bunks. They didn’t spend much time in the common areas of the ship, but they emerged for food or to use the ‘freshers fairly often. Alpha had been right about their schedules, though, and avoiding them was easy enough.
By the time you were warned to strap in for the descent into Coronet City, you had created an array of three disruptors. The largest one was for your room on Kamino, the second largest was for your office, and the smallest was for you to carry on your person.
Alpha had been a remarkably patient teacher, but he had insisted that you learn how to do everything yourself. He hadn’t taken over, even when you were stuck on a step and frustrated about it. But he had taught you how to get past every problem and fix every mistake you made along the way. You had even made your last disruptor while Alpha was sleeping, as a way to test yourself.
When Alpha had examined the finished product, he had announced that he was proud of you. He had also added that he would have you make disruptors for him in the future, but you mostly focused on the pride.
The sight of the spires and lights of Coronet City made your stomach twist in a combination of nerves and excitement. The landing was steep, but smooth. Since both pilots were in the cockpit to assist with landing, you held Alpha’s hand during the whole process. You really weren’t scared of ships or flying, but you were starting to wonder if you were afraid of Coruscant itself.
When you were safely on the ground, the pilots announced that you and Alpha could gather your belongings, but that they had to be the ones to release the locks on the doors.
You had packed light, but Alpha’s bag was little more than a backpack. He was wearing full armor, with the exception of the helmet he carried beneath one arm. He had already explained that he could go to retrieve an extra body glove if necessary, and he needed very little else. Even so, he slung his pack over one shoulder and pulled your larger bag free before you could even reach for it.
“Don’t leave the hangar yet,” one of the pilots said, pausing on his way off of the ship. “Commander Fox needs a word with you both.”
You managed to wait until he had left before you turned to Alpha, alarmed. “Fox? The commander of the Coruscant Guard needs to speak with us?”
Alpha’s brows quirked. “How do you know that Fox is the head of the Corrie Guard?”
“I was a Senatorial aide,” you reminded. “Some of the Senators had to have security escorts if they were threatened. I only met Commander Fox once, but I’ve worked with the Coruscant Guard quite a bit.”
Alpha nodded slowly. “Good man, Fox. I’m not sure what he needs from us, but I trust him.”
That was high praise, coming from Alpha, but your shoulders were still tight with tension as you followed him off the ship. You relaxed when you caught sight of the commander. Fox looked vaguely irritated, and you could see why - Nora was standing beside him with an impish look on her face.
“Nora!” you greeted.
The lawyer beamed, stepping forward with her arms already open for a hug. You stepped into them gratefully, happy for the familiarity of someone you already knew.
“It’s so great to see you in person!” Nora gushed when you pulled back. “And Alpha, of course! He’s a big guy.”
The last part had been delivered in a whisper, and you nodded emphatically. Sometimes, it was easy to forget how much larger Alpha was than the standard clone troopers, but the difference was especially striking when he was standing next to Commander Fox.
Fox wasn’t a small man, himself. He was the same height as all of the other troopers, with a sturdy build that spoke of hours spent working on his strength. Fox had always exuded an air of competence, and the sense of authority he carried was noticeable enough to make even hardened criminals think twice about testing him.
“Fox,” Alpha greeted simply, jerking his chin in recognition.
“Alpha,” Fox returned. He glanced over and, seeing that you were looking back at him, greeted you by name as well. “I don’t know if you remember, but we met a while ago.”
“I definitely remember,” you agreed, half-laughing at the idea of forgetting a meeting with Commander Fox. “It’s been a while, though. I’m surprised you remember.”
Fox’s lips twisted into a wry grin. “I had a vague memory of you, but we’ve gotten more than a few shinies from Kamino since you started working there. They have plenty to say.”
Your spine straightened reflexively, not sure whether or not that was a good thing.
“The pilot said you needed something from us,” Alpha said, subtly redirecting the conversation. “What is it?”
Fox nodded slowly. “I thought it would be a good idea to let you both know the expectations for your time here. I’m not sure what she’s doing here.”
Nora met his sidelong glance with a broad smile. “I heard that Commander Fox would be debriefing you both, so I decided to come along in case there are any questions or information that your counsel should be aware of.”
“Again, this isn’t a debriefing,” Fox said, sounding tired. “Second, you aren’t their counsel for this trial. They don’t need counsel since neither of them are defendants.”
“Well, I’m already here,” Nora said bracingly, shooting you a wink when Fox turned away to roll his eyes.
“Captain, you’ll be staying in the GAR barracks,” Fox started at last. “Since court isn’t in session until tomorrow morning, you have some meetings scheduled for this afternoon. I’ll escort you to them personally. Advisor, the Senate has reserved a hotel room for you near the courthouse. They will update the reservation as needed for your testimony. I’ll transmit the details to your comlink.”
He glanced back and forth between you and Alpha. “You are both expected to be in the courtroom at nine tomorrow morning. I cannot stress enough that you do not need legal representation.”
“They’ve already tried to pin this osik on her once, Fox,” Alpha reminded lowly, tilting his head at you so Fox couldn’t possibly misunderstand. “I don’t trust that they won’t do it again.”
“Much as I hate to agree with the commander,” Nora interjected. “I have to say that Fox has a point. If you come in with obvious legal protection, it could make you a target if their charges against Brid don’t stick.”
“Could you just be… around?” you asked.
Nora shook her head regretfully. “The proceedings are closed to the public since the trial is an internal Senate and GAR affair. I will give you some pointers about questions you should and should not answer, though. We’ll go out for dinner tonight, the three of us. After Alpha’s meetings, of course. Unless you’d like to come along, Fox?”
Fox gave her a dry look, but didn’t offer any other response. Instead, he said, “The captain’s scheduled meetings will run fairly late in the evening.”
“Oh, no…” Nora lamented, grinning all the while. “However will we find a Coruscanti restaurant that’s open after sunset?”
Fox shook his head and looked back at you and Alpha. “Nine tomorrow morning. Alpha, let’s go.”
Alpha’s eyes were on you and he stepped closer in an effort to speak more privately. Nora cleared her throat and hastily engaged Fox in conversation - and you were fascinated to see that he went along with it.
“I’ll see you tonight, neverd’ika,” he promised. “Go get settled in the room and I’ll meet up with you and Nora as soon as these meetings are finished.”
“Are you sure they’ll let you leave?” you asked. “Sounds like they’re trying to keep you occupied.”
Alpha’s grin held an edge of violence. “They can try all they like. I’m an expert at keeping meetings brief. One way or another.”
“Okay,” you agreed. “Be…”
You trailed off. ‘Be safe’ seemed nonsensical. Alpha was going to the GAR headquarters. He would be surrounded by his brothers, many of whom he had worked with in the past or personally trained. Arguably, Alpha would be safer there than anywhere else, but you still fought not to tell him to be safe.
Alpha seemed to understand. He rested his hand briefly on your shoulder. “You too, little one.”
The warmth and solid weight of his touch stayed with you long after he had left with Commander Fox.
You did as Alpha suggested, checking into the hotel room. It was… fine. Nothing fancy, but it was clean and quiet, near enough to the courthouse that you could easily walk there when it was time. You unpacked your outfit for the next day, hanging it up to avoid any creases. You were back on Coruscant, which meant that appearances were everything.
You found enough to keep yourself occupied for almost an hour. But when your toiletries were arranged and your personal datapad was charging on the bedside table, the room started to feel… wrong. It was too small, and dark, and cluttered. It was hard to to breathe.
Minutes later, you had gathered your wallet, comlink, and room key. A walk through the city was exactly what you needed to keep your mind off of the stress.
You set a course through a familiar section of the city, waiting to feel the peaceful sensation of homecoming that had been lacking up to that point. In a perfect world, you would have commed some of your Senatorial aide friends to meet up. But the last you had heard, most of them had left Coruscant. Some had moved on to new jobs while others were part of personal staff for Senators. Since it was currently outside of the Senate’s season, they would only meet up on Coruscant if there was an emergency motion. For the moment, the Senators and their staff were on home planets and estates, or traveling reelection circuits.
It was startling to realize that you didn’t know many people on Coruscant anymore. It was even stranger to realize that you hadn’t lived on Coruscant for well over a year.
The second realization became more and more apparent as you wandered through Coruscant. When you had left, the discussions of bringing in a clone guard force to augment the Coruscant Security Force had been raging, and there hadn’t been any sign of a consensus. To the displeasure of the CSF - and its union - Chancellor Palpatine had overridden the objections and pushed through a clone regiment. Now, the red-armored Coruscant Guard seemed to be everywhere you looked.
The war had taken its toll on the city in other ways. Every advertisement board switched between ads and governmental PSAs. Announcements about rationing and decreased utilities blared from assorted street corners. Graffiti splashed the walls - usually anti-war or anti-Republic, but you saw a few anti-trooper tags.
Public services had clearly taken a hit with the budget constraints of waging a war. Every drinking fountain you passed was broken, street lights were out more often than not, and the duracrete sidewalks were starting to crack and crumble along the more popular streets.
Most notably, plenty of businesses were closed. Some of the places you had loved when you lived on Coruscant were shuttered, a few of the doors bearing announcements that they hadn’t been able to compete in the wartime economy. One of your favorite restaurants had closed and your heart panged. You had planned to take Alpha there during your time on-planet.
Your already-low mood plummeted and you morosely turned back toward the hotel.
With your inevitable expulsion from Kamino coming up as soon as you submitted the report, you had wanted this trip to be more than it was. You hadn’t realized it at the time, but you had pinned your hopes on Coruscant feeling like home, and using that feeling to bolster yourself about the possibility of returning to a life of semi-normalcy.
Instead, it was growing more and more apparent that Kamino wasn’t allowed to be your home and that Coruscant no longer felt like the exciting surroundings they once had. Nothing was going as planned, and that made you feel irritable and off-balance.
And since you were already thinking of unplanned things, it seemed entirely fitting that you didn’t recognize where you were. A combination of closed businesses, changed facades, and partially closed walkways made even the most familiar of streets seem utterly strange to you.
You swore softly and tucked yourself off to the side, leaning against the railings to avoid passersby while minimizing how much Coruscant grime came away on your clothing. You might be able to find a comlink-accessible map, assuming that the frequencies hadn’t changed…
The sound of your name called in a familiar voice made you turn. When you glanced behind yourself, there was a tall, broad figure cutting easily through the crowd. You smiled. “Alph-”
You cut yourself off, frowning at the approaching trooper. His armor was red, and he made no move to take off his helmet as he stared down at you. More importantly, there was something about his bearing, the way he moved…
This wasn't Alpha.
At last, the trooper repeated your name and you nodded. “Yes. I’m sorry, have we met?”
“I’m here on my brother’s behalf.”
That didn’t directly answer any of your questions, but there was a suspicion forming in the back of your mind. You had never seen another trooper who could compete with Alpha's height and build, but this unfamiliar armored man was an exact match.
You tilted your head at him, studying the blank visor of his helmet as if you could see his eyes behind it. “You're another Alpha-class trooper, aren't you?”
He touched his gauntleted hand to his visor, giving a short nod. “Alpha-26, ma'am.”
“Do you have a name, or do you prefer Alpha-26?” You did your best to ask the question without any inflection that could be misconstrued as derision, but you really hoped that he had a name. Preferably not ‘Alpha’, either. That would simply be too strange.
He watched you for a moment, visor unmoving. You did your best not to fidget under the pressure of his hidden gaze. At last, he said, “Maze.”
“Maze,” you repeated with a smile. “It's nice to meet you.”
He tilted his head in acknowledgement, but gestured for you to start walking. “Let’s get you out of here.”
“Is everything okay?” you asked, already hurrying in the direction he had indicated.
Maze was a solid presence behind you. He followed a little further than Alpha usually did, but the similarities were uncanny. “You’re getting ready to testify in a Republic case, possibly linking to Separatist conspiracy. Wandering around in the depths of the city isn’t a smart idea.”
The idea seemed laughable at first. After all, you were still on the surface of the planet. Things didn’t usually get dangerous above level seventy or so. But you remembered how the Separatists had planted detonators in the Coruscant power grid. You had been on Kamino when it happened, but the news had rocked the galaxy. Coruscant hadn’t been successfully attacked in over a thousand years.
Maybe you weren’t as safe in the city as you had wanted to think.
You walked a little faster. “Did Alpha send you?”
“He mentioned that you were here,” Maze said vaguely. “He was kaden because they have him in di’kutla meetings for the whole day.”
“Yeah, Commander Fox said someone had made sure he had a full schedule.” You glanced around when you got to the next intersection. “Where are we going?”
“Up to you,” Maze said. “But wherever we go, we need to take the long way. I need to check for tails before we get anywhere important.”
“Is that necessary?” you asked, fidgeting uncomfortably with your wrist comlink.
Maze alternated between walking beside you and behind you. Since he was currently beside you, you could clearly see his nod. “There’s a humanoid following you. Has been for the last half-hour. I want to check it out before you return to your lodging.”
It was idiotic to glance behind yourself, but you tried until Maze physically blocked your way. In a dry tone of voice you had only heard from Alpha before, he said, “The idea is not to tip anyone off that you see ‘em.”
“Sorry,” you apologized reflexively. “Instinct, I guess.”
Maze hummed noncommittally. “How did you know I was an Alpha-class trooper?”
It was your turn to answer in a dry tone. “Just a feeling.”
From the tilt of Maze’s visor in your direction, he wasn’t impressed.
You waved a hand. “Alpha is the only trooper I’ve ever met who is so much larger than the average. I know he’s not the only Alpha-class trooper, so it was pretty easy to guess.”
Maze was quiet beside you. You had honestly assumed that his attention was on whoever was following you, until he said, “A civvie with critical thinking skills? Wish there were more like you.”
“That was… almost a kind thing to say,” you replied.
He shook his head. “Kindness isn’t really what I’m known for. The same used to go for Alpha, but looking at you… apparently, that has changed.”
The idea of anyone but you calling Alpha ‘kind’ was too funny. Maze shushed your laughter. With a stern look, he warned, “You’ll draw attention.”
“If someone is tailing me, I think I already have their attention,” you countered.
Maze’s sigh reminded you so strongly of Alpha that you laughed again.
“Doesn’t matter. I was trying to get him close enough to get a good scan of him, but if he gets a look at me, he’s more likely to hang back and blend into the crowd.” Anything you had planned to say in your own defense was cut short when Maze straightened, pushing you onward as he disappeared into the swarm of people surrounding you. “Keep moving. I’ll find him and catch up.”
Even with his considerable height and the breadth of his shoulders, Maze disappeared into the crowd within seconds. You caught the eye of several curious onlookers, but they lost interest when you just offered them a bewildered shrug.
You kept going in the vague direction of your hotel, walking alone for long enough that you started to wonder whether Maze had been injured. For a moment, you hesitated, ready to turn back, but a gruff-sounding sigh at your side made you think better of it.
“Keep walking, civvie,” Maze ordered.
You did, aiming a curious glance in his direction. In answer to your unspoken question, Maze lifted one armored shoulder. “We’re all good. It was one of Obrim’s boys. Apparently, you’ve been labeled a flight risk.”
“Obrim?” you repeated. “A flight risk? They think I would run?”
“Apparently.” Maze seemed unconcerned. “But if it makes you feel better, Seventeen is marked down as the one they would send to retrieve you. So whatever you’ve got going on, you’re keeping it reasonably ranov’la.”
While you were happy that Maze thought you and Alpha were being subtle, you weren’t entirely sure that Alpha would want his brother knowing about his personal life. He could be strange about things like that, and you didn’t officially know how Alpha felt about Maze.
“Alpha's a great friend,” you said carefully, “but he's a loyal Republic soldier. I'm sure he could find me easily if I decided to do something as foolish as running.”
Maze gave you a look that strongly implied you were losing grip on reality, but he just snorted instead of actually saying anything.
“Did he send you?” you asked at last. “How did he know I had left the room?”
“Comlink,” Maze said succinctly. “But Seventeen didn't send me.”
A sense of foreboding tightened your stomach. “Oh.”
“I've heard about you,” Maze said, after giving you a minute or two to scan for possible escape routes. “Not from Alpha, but others. Vode who came from Kamino. You're important to him. So you're important to me. I got your comm frequency from one of them.”
“Really?” you asked, forcing yourself to relax as you feigned curiosity. “Who was it?”
Maze snorted. “Trying to check whether I am who I say I am? Clever civvie. Seventeen didn’t send me. He didn’t have to. He mentioned that you were wandering around the city while he can’t be nearby to keep an eye on things. Seventeen doesn’t do small talk. He mentioned it because he was worried about you. So I came to find you.”
That made a lot more sense, and your wariness faded. Maze eyed you, shouldering through a group of beings who were blocking the pathway and keeping you falling victim to their disturbed centers of balance.
“Still don’t trust me?” he asked after you had made it through the crowd.
“It’s not that I don’t trust you-” you argued.
“But you don’t,” Maze finished, nodding like he had made some kind of decision. “Hold.”
You were trying to figure out whether to offended by being given a single-word command like a trained massiff while Maze typed a message into his comlink. You had decided to overlook it just as he lowered his arm to his side and watched you expectantly.
A moment later, your own comlink chimed. When you checked it, you had a message from Alpha:
I see Maze found you. He’s a di’kut, but he’s not dangerous. You’re in good hands.
You chuckled at that as you glanced back up at Maze. “Fair enough. You’ve been vetted.”
“What a relief,” Maze said, tone dry. “Let’s get you back to your hotel.”
A nearby chronometer caught your eye. “I’m supposed to meet Alpha for dinner. Is that something that is still happening, or will his meetings take the rest of the night?”
“They’ll keep him busy for a while longer,” Maze explained. “But if you don’t want to go back to the hotel, we can go to the GAR headquarters. Alpha can meet you after he’s done.”
“The GAR headquarters?” you asked, perking up a bit. “Can I take a look around while I wait?”
“Absolutely not.”
You must have looked disappointed, because Maze sighed. “Not without an escort. And I suppose I’m not doing anything important right now.”
The GAR headquarters were dull at first. Everything was painted in varying shades of tan and gray, laid out in a grid pattern that left you both bored and utterly dependent on Maze to lead you through the labyrinth.
But when you actually paid attention to your surroundings, you found that they were far more fascinating than you had believed at first. Beside every door was a neat little label explaining what you could find inside, and you had read through enough GAR documents to understand the enormity of the operations that were housed in the unassuming building. People you passed in the halls ran the gamut from shiny trooper to famous general, all of them greeting Maze with a salute or a kind word, respectively.
Maze wasn’t much of a conversationalist. You couldn’t bring yourself to be surprised by that, but it made the trip less of a tour and more of a fun experiment in keeping pace with someone whose legs were so much longer than yours. But he mentioned things here and there, and when you asked him a question about something you saw, he always knew the answer. He reminded you a little of Alpha.
Then, when one trooper stopped to make conversation with you and got flirtatious, Maze reminded you strongly of Alpha. If that trooper ever spoke to another woman inside the GAR headquarters, you would be surprised.
“That was a little harsh,” you remarked as the trooper rapidly disappeared from sight.
“A little?” Maze repeated unhappily. “I’ll have to do better next time.”
You didn’t actually see Alpha’s approach. You were watching a group of troopers approach from the opposite direction when you saw their eyes slide past you and widen. You turned, horrified that there was a general behind you, someone who would object to a civilian in GAR headquarters regardless of who was accompanying them, but when you turned, it was your boyfriend.
“Alpha,” you greeted happily. “I was starting to worry that they were never going to let you leave.”
“They did their best,” he agreed, looking irritated.
Maze glanced down at his comlink. “That why there’s an announcement to keep lookout for you? What did you do - walk out?”
“Yeah.”
You gaped while Maze gave an appreciative chuckle. “Good on you - they’d have kept you all night, otherwise.”
“Aren’t you going to get in trouble for that?” you asked.
Alpha’s mouth stayed pressed into a grim line, but the corners of his eyes crinkled the way they always did when he was trying not to smile at you too obviously. “I can handle it.”
Maze scoffed. “You two are disgusting. Get out of here before I report a sighting of you.”
Alpha nodded, but stepped close to Maze before they could split too far apart. Alpha spoke lowly in Mando’a, far too quickly for you to keep up. But he clapped Maze on the shoulder when he was done, so you assumed it wasn’t anything too negative. Maze gave him a shallow nod in return.
Before he could completely turn away, you called, “It was nice to meet you, Maze. Thank you for showing me around.”
Maze froze, glancing back at you for a long moment. Then he offered you a nod, too, and left.
You smiled up at Alpha. “Ready to go? I can comm Nora about where we’re going, but I’ll need you to lead me out of here. I have no idea where the exit is.”
Alpha chuckled lowly. “Follow me, neverd’ika.”
—
Nora had chosen a lovely restaurant for the three of you.
It was small, especially by Coruscant standards. There couldn’t have been more than a dozen tables in the building, but the atmosphere managed to be cozy and intimate rather than cramped. The effect was helped by plentifull windows that displayed the lights of Coruscant’s cityscape to best advantage. Inside, small lights hanging from the ceiling mirrored the lights outside, giving the impression that the city extended even into the restaurant itself.
You weren’t shocked when the owner came out to speak with Nora personally, greeting her by name.
You were shocked by the amount on the bill. It was going to take a substantial chunk of your savings to cover the meals that you and Alpha had enjoyed, but you valiantly grabbed the check anyway.
Nora snatched it from your hand in an instant. “Oh, no. I chose the restaurant. This is my treat.”
“I can’t let you do that,” you argued. Alpha watched the discussion with an inscrutable look in his eyes. “It’s too much-”
“If you think that’s too much, you should have seen how much I charged the owner of this place to get out of their legal troubles,” Nora informed you with a smirk. “I think he overcharges me in revenge, but the food is so good that I come back anyway.”
When you left the restaurant, Alpha said goodbye. You stared up at him, dismayed, but he shrugged and explained, “I was given strict orders to stay at the GAR barracks tonight, and I would never disobey a superior officer.”
Nora snorted, but Alpha looked sincere. You may have even believed him if he hadn’t snuck a wink in your direction and tapped his comlink.
As Alpha’s hovercab disappeared among the swarming traffic of the Coruscanti skies, your comlink chimed lightly.
I have to check in at the barracks, then I’ll be at the hotel. ETA one hour.
You didn’t even realize that you were smiling until Nora cleared her throat lightly. “So,” she asked leadingly, “how long have you and Alpha been dating each other?”
Stars, how did this keep happening to you? And why did it always come up when Alpha wasn’t around?
“I’m- We’re not-”
If Nora’s eyebrows arched any higher, they would levitate from her head. “Please. Anyone who has seen the two of you in the same space knows better than that. And, honestly? If you weren’t dating, you would be the biggest idiots in the galaxy. It’s obvious that you both care about each other.”
You sighed. “Are you going to tell me it’s a terrible idea?”
“Why would it be?” Nora’s tone was genuinely curious, which lowered your hackles a bit.
“Well, he’s a trooper, permanently stationed on Kamino and I…” You shrugged. “The process of writing that report isn’t going to last forever. I’ll have to leave Kamino eventually, then we’ll never see each other.”
“I mean, would leaving Kamino be the worst?” Nora asked gently. “I would think you’d be a little happy to come back home.”
You rubbed the back of your neck. “Is it strange that this doesn’t feel like home anymore? I’ve been gone so long and so much has changed…”
“That makes sense,” Nora agreed. “Would you stay there if it was an option?”
“In a heartbeat.” You laughed ruefully. “But I haven’t exactly made friends with the Kaminoans. At this point, I’ll be lucky if they don’t permanently ban other Republic officials from the planet.”
Nora gave a thoughtful sort of hum. “What if you could stay?”
The simple question sent a wild wave of hope through your chest. “What do you mean?”
“Did you know that parts of your report have spread outside of the Senate?” she asked instead of giving a direct answer.
“My- It has?” You shook your head, befuddled. “I can’t imagine who would be interested in reading it outside of the Senate. It’s a little… dry.”
“I agree,” Nora admitted, “but certain parties would beg to differ. Including a group I work with often, Sentient Rights.”
Your heart was racing.
“They think you’re doing important work on Kamino,” Nora continued without prodding. “When you’re finished with your report, they want to make sure you stay on Kamino, to prevent any sentient rights violations. What do you think?”
You hesitated. “Why did you wait until Alpha was gone to bring this up?”
Nora smiled, shaking her head. “The last thing I want to do is pressure you to stay somewhere you don’t want to be, even if the company makes it tolerable. If Alpha was here when you answered, I’d never know for sure whether you really wanted to stay on Kamino or if you just didn’t want to hurt his feelings.”
“Fair enough.” You thought about the resignation on Riptide’s face and the corresponding helplessness on Colt’s. You thought about the horror and devastation in the voices of Riptide’s squadmates, then about the way Alpha described reconditioning. You gave Nora a firm nod. “Give me their frequency. I’d love to talk with them.”
“I had a feeling you would,” Nora said with a smile. “Just like I have a feeling that a certain captain will be very unhappy if you’re late to meet him at your hotel room. Have a good night and we’ll talk after the trial.”
You agreed, thanking Nora for dinner before calling a hovercab. You were still worried about the trial, but the day had given you plenty else to think about.

Author's Note - This is the chapter that Tried Not To Be. It was a struggle to write, and I've been trying to post it for three weeks now. Then tumblr and AO3 both tried to get cute when I finally had a chance to work on it. Anyway, sorry for the wait. Hopefully this monstrous chapter was worth it!
If any Legends fans have opinions about how I did with Maze, please feel free to let me know! I tried not to make him an exact copy of Alpha, but I see them as being very similar.
Thanks for reading! The next chapter is still planned to come out at the end of this month, so I'll see you soon!

Hey! I know he's a bit of a rare clone, but would you consider writing for maze? he's from the repcomm books and is endearingly (Imo) professional and surly 👉👈
Not That Hard
Summary: When one story ends, another one begins. Maze, formerly a Republic Soldier, is now a bounty hunter. He’s used to things being orderly, everything has a place, and everything should be in its place. So when he ends up locked in a small cell with the woman he’s been searching for, a woman who’s been missing for three weeks, he knows that everything is about to be turned on its head.
Pairing: Pre Maze (Alpha-26) x F!Reader
Word Count: 1722
Warnings: None
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni @imabeautifulbutterfly
A/N: So, I've never written Maze before, but I'm always happy to write any of the Alphas, or any star wars character. His page on Wookieepedia wasn't the best, but I did the best I could. I hope you like it! Also, I've been watching a lot of Numb3rs, so that's where the basic idea of this came from.
Tumblr media
Maze leans back against the stone wall, his gaze drifting from the woman sleeping on the singular cot in the cell to the door, and then back again. He’s glad that she’s asleep. He wasn’t sure that she would fall asleep, honestly.
He leans over and tugs the thin blanket a little higher over her shoulders. The blanket won’t do much to keep the cold out, it’s too thin, but it’s enough that she can sleep.
Three weeks ago the University of Theeds reached out to him, telling him that one of their Teachers had gone missing. They said to him that someone had broken into her home, torn the place to pieces, and taken her.
The University hired him to find her since he was something of an expert on finding people.
The fact that she’s alive is a damned miracle, in his opinion. After three weeks, statistics indicate that he should have found her in a ditch somewhere.
He’s never been so glad to be wrong in his life.
Still, the fact that they haven’t killed her suggests that they want something from her. Maze shifts so that he’s sitting on the cot beside her, tired of sitting on the ground.
He needs to think.
Why would someone want a University Professor?
Absently, Maze brushes a strand of hair off her face as he thinks about what he knows about her.
She’s young, barely brushing 25 years old. She’s an only child. Her mom died from heart disease when she was a child, her dad recently retired to a lake house. There’s no other family.
She’s single, and her only friends are people who work at the University with her. Honestly, it sounds like a lonely life to him, but according to her colleagues and friends, she’s seemed lonely or unhappy.
He can respect that.
Maze’s eyes snap to her face as she releases a quiet noise and shifts on the cot, seemingly to curl into his warmth while also opening her eyes. “You should go back to sleep, Professor. It’s early.” He says quietly.
She sighs and shakes her head, “No point. They’re going to be coming soon.” Slowly, she sits up and shifts so she’s able to press her face against his shoulder.
“What do they want?” Maze asks, mentally kicking himself for not asking her earlier. But then, her injuries were pretty severe. It makes sense that he would put that aside.
“I’m a Bio-Engineer.” She replies tiredly, “They want me to tell them how to break into BioGen.”
“Why?”
“BioGen’s biggest thing is weaponizing viruses.”
Maze stiffens and his gaze snaps to her face, “BioWeapons are illegal. Even in the Empire.”
“They weaponize them so that they can try and develop cures for them. It’s all legal and above board.” She reassures, “Even in the Empire.”
“Why’d you leave?”
“A Tenured Professorship at the University of Theeds is a great honor, not to mention it pays very well.” She replies, “It made sense, career-wise.”
“Only there’s a lot less security at the University compared to a Biomedical facility.”
She huffs out a laugh, “Yeah, there is that.” She shifts her head slightly, “But this has never happened before. Ever. People leave BioGen all of the time.”
“And you’re the first one kidnapped?”
“That I know of.”
There are heavy footsteps from the hall and Maze shifts so that his body is shielding hers. The door slams open and three men step into the room.
They’re not big men, if Maze were to stand, he’d tower over them. It burns him up that he allowed men like them to capture him so he would be able to find the professor.
“Professor,” One of the men stalks towards Maze, and he feels her shrink down behind him, “Come on, girl. Are we really going to do this? All you gotta do is give us the information, and then you’ll both go free.”
“Don’t lie. We all know that the moment she tells you what you want to know, you’ll kill her.” Maze growls out.
The man laughs, “Well, it’ll be a quick death, rather than this slow, dragged-out death.”
Behind him, the Professor trembles.
“Is this all of you? Just three men?”
“We still caught you, clone.” One of the other men sneers, “Grab the Professor—”
The first man reaches to grab the Professor, only for Maze to move, swiftly breaking the man’s arm, and slamming his head against the wall, causing him to crumple to the floor.
“Get low, Professor.” Maze orders as he stands and advances on the two remaining men. He doesn’t wait to see if she’s following his direction, as he suddenly has two furious men to contend with.
Unfortunately for them, he’s an Alpha Class clone, and they’re unarmed.
The fight can’t even be called a proper fight. The two remaining kidnappers go down with several well-placed hits, and Maze tosses them into the cell while motioning for the Professor to join him.
“We’re leaving,” Maze says to the woman as he holds his hand out for her.
Nervously she nods and takes his hand, “Where are we going?”
“Well, it was the University who hired me.” Maze replies as he peeks into the hall, and then leads her out of the cell as soon as he notes that it’s safe.
“Um—”
Maze stops and looks at her, “What’s wrong?”
“Just…did they seem smart enough to come up with this on their own?”
Maze stares at her for a long time, and then he sighs, “No. They didn’t.” He’s quiet for a moment, “Alright, there must be something here to indicate who hired them. Follow me.”
Maze leads abruptly turns down a side hallway and leads her into a much larger room. There are computers, though they seem largely untouched. It looks like the kidnappers were more concerned with the games that were playing on the four holos lined up next to each other than the computers.
There are three couches, each other them surrounded by empty bottles and empty pizza boxes.
“Well,” Maze notes as he steps around a pile of trash, “Criminal Genuises they are not.”
The Professor peers at a holo-board next to the couches, “It looks like they have a gambling problem.”
“Lucky for us. It means they probably didn’t delete anything.” Maze walks over to the computers, “Stay close, Professor.”
“Ah…Sorry.” She hurries to his side and peeks around him at the monitors.
Maze flashes a small smile at her and then focuses on the computers. “Hey, Professor?”
“Yes?”
“How’d they grab you?”
“I was heading home from a day of classes, and they ran me off the road.” She replies.
“You were driving yourself.”
“Yeah.”
“Does anyone know your route home?”
“I mean, there’s only one road off of the main campus,” She replies, “But I generally don’t know what route I’m taking home until I get in the car. It depends on the traffic and if I need to go grocery shopping.”
“And you didn’t tell anyone your plans for the evening when you were taken?” Maze asks as he scans something on the screen.
“No. No one.”
“It looks like our violent friends were hired by Levi Kelley. At least, that’s who paid them.”
“Levi Kelley?”
“You know him?”
“Yeah, he’s the head of the Biology Department at the University. I thought you said the University hired you?”
“Yeah, the Dean hired me. This Levi person, is he your supervisor?”
“No. I mean, he thinks that he is, but we’re on the same level.”
“Are you friends?”
“I’ve always been a bit…ambivalent towards him. He’s a good teacher, but he’s kind of a terrible person. Racist, sexist, the whole shebang.”
“And he works at a University?”
“He’s a very good teacher. But he lost his tenure last year.”
“For what?”
“Academic misconduct, according to the rumors.” She leans against his side, exhausted, “The only person who knows the truth would be the Dean.”
“So it’s revenge.” Maze murmurs, “Use you to get an incurable virus, and release it on the school. Did you tell them anything?”
“No, I didn’t. I wouldn’t.”
“They tortured you, Professor. No one would blame you if you did.”
“I’m telling you, I didn’t. I left Biogen two years ago, Maze. I don’t remember any passwords or door codes. And they removed my biometrics from their system on my last day. I swear it.”
“Okay.” Maze lightly pushes some of her hair out of her face, “So they need someone else, a current employee.”
“Yeah, it’s the only way to get inside.”
“Alright. Let’s get out of here and alert the authorities. And get you some medical attention.”
“Yes please.”
Maze lightly presses his hand against the small of her back, guiding her towards the door, “I have one more question, Professor.”
“Go ahead?”
“When my brothers and I were decanted, we were given enhanced aging.”
“Yes, it was the only way for the Kaminoans to get a viable army in 10 years.” She replies.
“Yeah, you think you can reverse it?”
“Reverse it?” She repeats, sounding more thoughtful than surprised. Maze watches as she absently scratches at a deep gash on her cheek, “I don’t know about reversing it,” She finally says, “but I might be able to cure it. With enough blood samples.”
“Really?”
“Well sure, it’s not that hard. It’s just gene manipulation.” She frowns at him thoughtfully, “Look, all the information I need is here,” she lightly taps his chest, “The more of your brothers I can get blood samples from, the easier it’ll be to make a cure.”
“Can you do it at the University while also teaching?”
“I mean, sure. But the University of Theeds is funded by the Emperor. I’m guessing you don’t want the Empire to know about it.”
“No, I don’t.” Maze replies.
She’s quiet for a moment, “Find me a place to work, off of Naboo, and I can help you.”
“If you can cure this, I might just kiss you,” Maze says with a sly smile.
Her face heats and she won’t look at him, “Well, that seems a bit excessive,” She mumbles.
She squeaks when he lightly drapes his arm over her shoulder and tugs her against his side, “No. It isn’t. Come on, Professor. Let’s get you safe.”

Omegas from Sector A [Alpha!Gally x omega!reader] - part 1
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Recommendations
Part 1, Extra 1, Part 2 - final, Extra 2
Word count: 5.8k
summary: Y/n was the fourth omega to arrive in sector A, exhausted by the mistreatment of the omegas in the clearing, how will Gally react when another one arrives in the box? What if this time she has a totally different reaction to the others? Note: “Omegas from Sector A” is an interconnected series and Y/n in this story will be called Khloe in the rest of the series, Ava, Lia and Nora are Y/n's from another story. The rest of the series is available on the masterlist. Thank you all!
“No! Not me, someone else get her out of there! I give up!”
Y/n hears a tall blond boy say as he wakes up, an alpha to be exact, but there were many more around her.
“Come on, Gally! Don't be traumatized!”
“Absolutely not, the last 3 times they growled, screamed and bitten.”
“Chicken!” Ava shouts, prompting a chorus from the rest of the group and earning a nasty look from Gally.
Faced with repeated “Chicken! Chicken! Chicken!” he gives up and angrily goes down to the box. He approaches cautiously and when the omega doesn't show any aggression, he decides to hold out his hand with obvious hesitation.
She couldn't remember anything, where she came from, what she was doing there… not even her own name. The last three times? Had he done this many times before? It seemed ungrateful that he should be the first to reach out to someone and be snarled at in return.
The chorus of shouts was beginning to irritate the omega, so with as much calm as she could muster, she reached out and grabbed the alpha's hand, which she understood was called Gally.
For a moment everyone falls silent, the alpha looks at her visibly in shock. Squeezing his hand lightly, he seems to come to his senses and gently pulls the omega up. They both look at each other for a moment, lost in each other's eyes.
Taking a deep breath, omega feels herself relax at the musky smell of alpha in front of her and still doesn't seem willing to let go of his hand.
“That's it? No growls? Screams or bites? Wow!” A voice from the group interrupted the silence and started the noise again.
She could already feel a headache coming on, they were so loud and annoying. Approaching the blond alpha, she clings to his arm, her hand still entwined with his, in search of shelter. Surprised to feel her clinging tighter to him, he turned his gaze from the crowd to her before turning to the others and snarling at them.
The crowd that had gone momentarily quiet at the omega's approach to Gally explodes into a new wave of astonished screams with several of them shouting things like.
“Wow Gally's got himself a girl!” and '“It's Gally's girl”.
It didn't work. She thinks frustratedly and hides her face in Gally's shoulder. Noticing her discomfort, the alpha ignores the way her heart is beating wildly and places his hand on hers that was on his arm in an attempt to offer some comfort. Looking at the group, he turns to Ava for help.
Noticing his desperate look she seems to decide to be nice and shouts. “All right, you idiots! Let them get out of there and start unloading the supplies”
They visibly protest but do as Ava tells them and Gally gently moves to get the omega out of there. Moving away from the group, two more omegas appear in front of them.
“ Hi, my name is Lia,” one of them begins.
“I'm Nora,” the other says.
She looks away from them to Gally, visibly unsure.
“My name is Gally and it's okay not to remember your name. You'll remember it soon enough,” the alpha says softly, making the other omegas stare at him in amazement.
She nods, a ghost of a smile on her face.
“Were you an omega?” Another black-skinned alpha asks, approaching the group.
Gally agrees and the alpha speaks again.
“Well, I think we have a pattern” he pauses looking at her ‘My name is Alby’ he says holding out his hand. The omega, however, makes no move to accept it and holds on to Gally.
“Okay. Gally, can you come with us while I explain things around here?”
Although still in shock, Gally agrees, giving the omega's hand a comforting squeeze.
___
Gally watches the others celebrating at the bonfire. He remains seated next to the new omega while she still clings to him. “They're noisy,” she comments with a yawn, making Gally look at her and laugh at her tiredness.
“I didn't know omegas could be stronger than alphas” she says again, starting to feel more at ease around him.
Gally realizes that she's looking at the circle game that Ava was running that night.
“It's not common, but Ava is a case in point.”
“Hey Gally!” Ava calls out from the circle “Aren't you going to join in?”
Gally watches from where he is sitting with Y/n. Looking at her, he wraps an arm around her shoulders, bringing her close “Not today.”
“If you're afraid your girl will see you lose, I understand,” Ava states simply.
Y/n is quick to catch sight of Gally's serrated jaw and smiles as she realizes the obvious competition that existed between the two. Gently she removes his arm from her shoulders “It's okay, you can go”
Gally really wanted to stay there with Y/n, being with her made his inner alpha want to purr and snuggle up to her. He felt protective of her, but he was also prideful and like two prickly brothers Ava knew perfectly well how to bring that out in him.
Looking again at the omega for confirmation, she nods confidently. Feeling more secure, he gets up and heads towards the circle with a small “I'll be right back”.
“Hi again” the omega that Y/n remembered calling Lia says, alerting her to his presence as soon as Gally has moved away.
She sits down next to her and quickly the other omega, Nora, appears and sits down on the other side of Y/n. A silence falls over the three of them as they watch Gally and Ava fight.
“Gally uh?” Nora speaks, snapping her out of her trance.
“W-what about it?” She asks confused and nervous as she feels her face flush.
“Nothing, it's just that he's not usually the type to make a good first impression on omegas,” Lia explains.
Y/n looks at the two of them, she couldn't understand why he wouldn't make a good impression. He was a strong alpha, tall and broad-shouldered, his smell was quite pleasant and he was far from ugly. He was also quite gentle with her when she was frightened in the box. She was sure that having an attractive, comforting alpha reach out to her gently when she was scared was definitely a good first impression.
Stopping to think about what was said earlier when she was still in the box something seemed to occur to her.
“Was it you who bit him?” she asks.
“Actually that was me, but he had it coming” Nora declares.
“How?” Y/n asks confused.
“I growled and he not only didn't back down, he tried to touch me. It was rude.”
“Wasn't he just trying to help?”
“Maybe” Nora says before silence falls over them again.
“Well,” Y/n begins, pausing, ”he's been nothing but kind to me.”
Lia and Nora look at each other with smiles.
“That's good, but he can be a jerk sometimes” Lia warns ”On the bright side, you're his girl”
“I haven't even been here a day, that title-”
“It's not bad at all” Nora interrupts Y/n.
Lia agrees “Believe me, you'll enjoy keeping it at least until you fit in better”
Y/n looks confusedly at Lia.
“It has its advantages” Nora explains, letting the silence fall again. Something told her that the two of them weren't going to explain much more.
So Y/n turns her attention back to the circle and observes Gally's fight without realizing that a smile is forming. She follows the contours of the alpha, from the veins in his forearms to the muscles in his arms, the freckles that dot his face and his beautiful blue eyes.
Applause wakes Y/n from her trance when Gally manages to pull Ava out of the circle. She watches Gally celebrate and almost loses her breath when he looks at her with a beautiful smile.
Upon Gally's victory, Alby appears to announce that the party is over.
___
“Here,” Gally signals as he sets up a hammock next to Nora's.
“Here?” Y/n asks, she hated to admit it but the thought of being alone at night scared her. Okay, she wouldn't be alone, she'd be with Nora. But she'd be without him.
Gally looked at her without knowing what to say. Nora, who was already lying in her hammock, turned and said, “She's your girl, isn't she? Take her to you, Gally. I don't need any more neighbors, let me sleep.”
He blushes but tries to hide it in the darkness of the night, for a while he seems to expect Y/n to object in some way but she just looks at him “You're really moody. Let's go,” he says to Nora before turning and taking Y/n by the hand towards where his hammock is.
When she's sure they're both gone, Nora smiles to herself. Sometimes they need a push. She thinks
“Here,” Gally says again, placing a new net, this time next to his. This time, however, S/n just smiles.
“Thank you” she says as she lies down.
Gally follows suit and lies down in his own hammock. He watches her fall asleep and sighs. He was so confused, he honestly didn't expect it to be any different this time, but it was. He expected everything but the omega to accept his help and want to stay with him. The alpha in him was proud that she had chosen him but the rational part of Gally wasn't so sure, he was confused as to why she was being so kind to him.
___
Gally wakes up to his hammock gently swaying. Looking over, he saw the new omega lying in her hammock, which was swaying in tune with his. He quickly realized why when the hammocks came closer and she pushed his, causing them both to continue swaying.
Realizing that he was awake, she smiled, “Good morning, Gally.”
“Good morning”
“Y/n”
“Y/n?” He asks.
She smiles “That's my name”
“Welcome to the clearing Y/n”
“Thank you” She says laughing and Gally tries not to melt at the sight.
___
“Builder?” Y/n asks.
“Alby suggested it, but only if you want to. You can watch for a few days until you decide.”
“What do the builders do?”
“We're responsible for putting up the houses, corrals and other buildings”
“We?”
“Well, yes. I'm a builder”
Y/n thinks for a moment “That sounds good”.
___
Since Y/n had been working with the builders for a week, she had to admit that it wasn't very easy to understand what they wanted to do. Their explanations and drawings were confusing and difficult to understand and the only one who seemed to have the patience to really teach her was Gally. Of course, he was the guardian of the builders.
Today was a day when Y/n was supposed to help repair a roof. Because she was smaller and lighter, the boys thought it would be good if she climbed up, although she realized that Gally didn't like the idea very much.
She was alone with Doug and Jack, and while she hammered the timbers they handed her the ones from the ground. She was almost finished when a misstep caused her to break the timbers again and hurt her ankle in the process.
When she got down Doug immediately approached her, but of course it wasn't to check that she was okay.
“See what you've done? You've ruined everything we've been doing for the last two hours!”
Y/n cringes at the alpha's raised voice but before she can respond Jack intervenes.
“Wow, are you crazy? She's Gally's girl!” he says, trying to calm his friend down.
“Is something wrong Doug?” Gally's voice announces his arrival as he stands in front of Y/n protectively.
Doug swallows visibly before speaking, “She ruined part of the roof-”
“She's new to this, these things happen. I'll help her fix it” He says turning away from the other alpha without leaving room for discussion ”But first we need to check that ankle. Come on Y/n” he says placing a hand on her back and guiding her in a gentle way.
“I told you,” Jack said in an audible whisper to Doug.
It was at that moment that Y/n realized what Lia and Nora meant by the privileges of the title “Gally's Girl”. She wasn't going to lie, having one of the most respected alphas in the clearing willing to run to her rescue whenever she needed it was quite a comforting feeling. Why not? Gally was really kind and careful with her, he had looked after her since she arrived and even though everyone said she was his, he never tried to lay a finger on her. Maybe it's good to keep him. She thought as she looked at Gally with a smile.
___
At first that was it, being “Gally's Girl” brought her undeniable advantages and the way everyone was shocked by his kindness to her was great fun. Not only for her, but all the other three omegas in the clearing agreed that it was quite amusing to see how soft she made him. Last year Gally had been teased for being the one to try to get the omegas out of the box but never succeeding, it was really hilarious to see Y/n shut them all up when they argued that omegas just didn't like him.
At first it was just that, until she began to blush at his kindnesses. Until she began to feel butterflies in her stomach every time he flashed her that smile she loved. Until she began to feel goosebumps every time her skin made contact with his. Until she started daydreaming about him. Until she finally realized that she had fallen in love with him.
His tough, strong exterior that hid such a gentle, caring alpha captivated her endlessly. The alpha who looked after everyone without anyone seeming to notice. The alpha who also needed to be looked after but pretended not to. The alpha who needed to be loved.
She understood that. A safe haven, that's all she wanted to be for him, she wanted to support him and repay him for everything he did for her. To return the warm feeling he brought her when he smiled.
He deserved all that and S/n was more than willing to give it to him, she would give him anything he asked for.
So, even when she was fully integrated, she didn't back down. On the contrary, she moved forward, persistent touches, hugs and sweet words. She wore the title with pride and acted as an omega should with his alpha.
Over time Y/n also improved in her work, her ideas and designs quickly winning over the other builders when they realized that hers were much easier to understand than theirs. Gally's proud smile was a bonus.
___
Gally had to admit that she drove him crazy. It was quick and he found himself totally in love. The comfort and closeness she showed him was torture. Especially on bonfire nights when she would sit on his lap and hug him. He wanted nothing more than to bury his face in her neck and smell her, cover her in his scent, pull her closer and kiss her.
Shit. He thought, shaking his head to clear his thoughts.
It took an iron will to resist her and although he loved the attention he still didn't understand why she played with him like that.
When she had first called him Captain he had hardly been able to contain himself. It was normal for the other builders and even some of the other gladers to call him that, but when she did it sounded different. Terrible and deliciously different.
“There's another omega coming today, right? I want to go and see it arrive” Y/n says excitedly although part of the reason is that she wants to avoid Gally trying to take it out of the box. Jealous? Maybe. Probably. Yes.
Gally smiles, “That's what everyone expects. But first we still have things to do. Are you sure Ava can help you?”
Y/n hums in agreement “She said she wants to be here to see the new omega so she wasn't going to the maze today and could help with other things” She says as she takes Gally's hand and starts playing absentmindedly with his fingers.

___
“I'm telling you, you have to be more explicit,” Ava says as she passes a piece of wood to Y/n.
“I literally kissed him this morning” She says as she grabs the wood.
“You kissed him?!?”
“On the cheek, but yes”
Ava sighs in exasperation “He's an idiot, that's not enough for him”
“What do you suggest I do? All that's left is to write it on his forehead… I'm beginning to think he only sees me as a sister or something”
Ava laughs and says loud enough for her to hear from the rooftop “I don't think he'd be hard up for a sister to sit on his lap”
“Ava! Keep your voice down!” Ava laughs “Besides, he'd been drinking a lot that night” Y/n tries to argue but blushes as she remembers.
It was a bonfire night, a new greenie had arrived and after Gally removed him from the circle he joined Y/n. She could tell by his flushed cheeks and irregular breathing that he had drunk more than he should have. She let out a little cry of surprise when he pulled her onto his lap.
He wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her closer. In an attempt to stabilize herself, she put her hands on the alpha's chest. Gally sighs at the feel of her hands on him and buries his nose in her neck gently rubbing the scent gland on her neck. Y/n tries to control herself but her breathing comes out short and irregular. She chokes as she feels him kiss her neck and leans closer just in time to feel him start to get hard underneath her.
To everyone else it was just a drunken display of affection by Gally towards his omega, but the other omegas in the clearing knew that it was a drunken Gally letting his feelings slip out.
That night, Gally didn't let her sleep in his hammock, trapping her in it with a strong hug. Y/n of course couldn't complain and fell asleep on the alpha's chest with a happy sigh.
The next morning he had no memory of his displays of affection last night. When he questioned Y/n about her sleeping in his hammock, she wanted to spare him the embarrassment and said she'd had a bad dream and he'd let her sleep with him. Of course he was teased, but with the hugs and closeness they constantly shared he didn't realize that the teasing was about something else.
The following bonfire night, when she sat on his lap, it was his turn to be shocked, but he didn't push her away.
“Have you ever tried calling him alpha? I'm sure that would be the last straw.”
“You said that when I suggested I call him Captain” Y/n says rolling her eyes.
“Well, okay. I didn't expect his restraint to be so great.” Ava says helping Y/n down from the roof.
“Listen, I'm serious when I say I've never seen him like this with an omega before”
“Maybe because no one has paid as much attention to him as I have. What if he actually finds me boring but just doesn't want to hurt me?”
“Y/n” Ava says, grabbing her by the shoulders and forcing her to look her in the eye ”You're Gally's girl. He's crazy about you, anyone can see that. He just needs one more push”
Y/n looks away from Ava “Here comes a new omega, I love him. I don't want to lose him, Ava.” She finishes, meeting her friend's gaze again, but this time with tearful eyes.
“Oh Y/n, he's yours. Believe me, soon you'll have no doubt about it” She says, hugging her and wiping away her tears ”If it's another omega I'll get it out of there, I promise”
“If?” Y/n asks confused.
“I don't know why I don't feel another one coming on, my instinct doesn't usually fail me” She pauses for a moment ”Like when I say Gally's got the hots for you”
Y/n laughs “Ok. I'll try”
“That's my girl! I mean, Gally's girl!” Ava laughs making Y/n blush.
___
Y/n takes a deep breath before smiling and entering the council room with Ava.
Advancing towards Gally she puts her arms around his neck pressing their bodies together and speaking happily “I'm back Captain” the alpha blushes deeply at the closeness and use of the nickname and his hands instinctively fly to the omega's waist holding her close to him.
Why did she have to do this to him? He thinks as his heart contracts in pain.
When he doesn't answer, she tilts her head in a brilliant performance of innocence. Standing on tiptoe and pulling him closer, she whispers in his ear, “If you don't like Captain, I can swap you for Alpha.”
The sound of her whispering voice calling him alpha almost made him let out a groan.
Shit, shit, shit. He couldn't take it anymore, the whole situation, the closeness, the nicknames, that look in her eyes. Did she really not know what she was doing to him? It hurt, it fucking hurt how she played with him so obliviously without caring about all the damage she was doing to his heart. He couldn't do this anymore. He couldn't take it anymore.
Grabbing both her arms, he pulled them away from her. Without looking her in the eye.
“That's enough,” he says coldly, surprising Omega with a tone that has never been directed at her before.
“W-what?” she asks with a shaky voice, without him realizing it everyone in the room was now staring at them, confused that Gally had walked away and spoken to her like that.
“I've had enough of this. I can't take it anymore!” He speaks but it almost comes out in a scream. He keeps his eyes on the ground but when she doesn't answer he finally faces her and feels his heart break. He thought it hurt when she played with him but as he looked at her now tear-stained face he realized that the pain from before couldn't compare.
Wiping away her tears furiously, she speaks between sniffles “D-sorry I didn't notice before”
Before anything else can be said Y/n leaves the room. Gally notices the awkward silence when he sees that everyone has just witnessed the two of them interacting.
Approaching him, Ava surprises him with a kick to the shin, causing him to recoil with a shriek “What was that for?” he complains.
“You've got to be kidding me! Do you know how long it took me to get her to risk it like that? Because you're a fucking alpha who can't even take the first step? I was happy for you but seeing how you ruined everything - Shit! For months I've had to listen to you complain about how violent we omegas are and when one is finally affectionate with you, you push her away? You don't deserve her!” Ava screams with tears in her eyes.
Gally breathes unevenly and the moment he finally realizes what he's done, he runs outside to catch up with Y/n.
___
When a hand grabs her arm and forces her to stop, she doesn't even need to look to know who it is. She knew that touch all too well.
“Y/n wait, I didn't mean it like that”
“No. I understood perfectly” She says as calmly as she can while avoiding the blue eyes she loves so much.
“It's not that. Listen, I just can't take it any more than-”
“I get it! The others were right but I was too stubborn to listen. You're an idiot! And you know what? They were right to growl at you and bite you too.”
“Y/n-” Gally tries to say, the pain evident in his voice.
“Leave me alone!” Y/n shouts earning a few glances from other gladers not far from them.
Taking a deep breath, she turns and walks away from Gally, this time he doesn't follow her. She wanted to be everything to him, she wanted to love him, she wanted to care for him and pamper him but all the time she tried to do so she was nothing but a burden and that fact hurt more than anything.
___
Hi” Nora says, finding Y/n lying in a hammock next to hers, which wasn't there before ‘This isn't your place’ she comments.
Y/n laughs, Nora obviously already knew what was going on “I don't think I can take the title of Gally's girl any further”
Nora gives her a crooked smile “Ava thought you'd like to know that the new greenie is another alpha”
“Why didn't she come?”
“She says she hasn't changed her mind yet and insisting that Gally really likes you now will only make you worse”
“She's stubborn” Y/n says laughing through her tears.
“It won't be long before the party starts. Come with us” Nora asks with a pleading look.
Y/n thinks for a few minutes before sighing at Nora's pleading look. Sighing, she lets out a small “Okay” and allows Nora to help her up.
Even though at first Y/n didn't want to come, she had to admit that she was enjoying herself, Lia, Nora and Ava were always with her. Talking, laughing and drinking were what she needed. It might have been perfect if her gaze wasn't constantly returning to a certain alpha who was fighting in the circle. It was obvious to everyone that he was distracted, by now everyone knew about the argument if only because they had arrived at the party separately and hadn't spoken to each other. What's more, Gally was losing several fights that he would never have lost otherwise.
Y/n wanted to do something to help him but quickly suppressed the thought when he remembered.
I'm just a burden.
“Is that her? She's cute” Y/n hears an unfamiliar voice comment, watching him she realizes that must be the new greenie.
“I don't like him. He's crazy” Ava comments between them when she sees Y/n looking at the alpha.
“Are you crazy? I already explained to you that she's Gally's” Doug explains.
“That's not what's going around” He comments laughing.
“He has a death wish” Ava declares furious at his comments.
“They broke up, right? Besides, Gally doesn't look as strong as everyone here says,” he continues, pointing to where Gally had just lost another fight.
Y/n frowns and a low growl sounds from her at the derogatory comments about her alpha Gally. She didn't like him either.
“If she's free what's stopping me from trying?” He says getting up and heading towards the group of omegas before Doug can stop him.
Y/n's nose wrinkles as he gets closer and she smells his cloying scent.
“What's up, princess? What do you say we go for a walk together?” He says with a smile that Y/n would classify as disgusting. The use of the nickname that only Gally can use increases her anger, but just as she's about to tell him to fuck off, a voice interrupts.
“What are you doing greenie?” Gally's rough voice says and the whole clearing falls silent to watch.
“I'm just an alpha talking to a single omega, is there a problem?” He says with a provocative tone.
Gally saws his jaw, it was true that technically she wasn't anyone's, but that didn't mean he was going to let that half-wit greenie bother her and think he had a chance. Especially when he could smell the uncomfortable scent of Y/n from where he stood.
“How about you show what you're made of before you start hitting on someone?”
He finally stands up, moving away from Y/n and towards Gally.
They both positioned themselves in the circle, Gally knew that today was not a good day. He had no doubt that he was stronger than the greenie but with all the confusion in his head he needed to think calmly.
Looking over the greenie's shoulder he could see Y/n watching them. It was okay if she didn't forgive him, he was an idiot not to see what was right in front of him and Ava was right, he didn't deserve her but if it was any use it was to keep unwanted alphas away. At least he would make sure that idiot didn't bother her again.
“I can't wait to see what she'll say when you lose,” the greenie laughs.
Gally saws his jaw hard but instinctively remembers all the times Y/n told him to keep calm and not act impulsively. Unfortunately for the greenie, that thought helped Gally and he got the better of him.
“As if that proves anything, there's nothing stopping me from going to her and-” the defeated alpha says as he gets up, but a Gally punch interrupts him and knocks him back to the ground.
“Don't come near my omega again,” Gally shouts, grabbing the collar of the greenie's shirt and growling. Before realizing that he had called her his in front of everyone when he had no right to. Then he stands up ready to leave.
My omega. The words had been reverberating in Y/n's mind ever since they came out of Gally's mouth, leaving her breathing ragged. Did he really consider her his? Of course, Ava had told him several times, but hearing Gally declare it in front of everyone was different.
“As if she'd run to you. You're nothing but a violent, rude alpha,” he said, standing up and wiping the blood from his mouth.
The last sentence made something inside Y/n snap.
“Y/n, this-” Lia begins, but before she can finish Y/n has already gotten up and headed towards the circle.
Gally is about to reply when she sees Y/n walking towards her. To his disappointment she walks past him without a single glance, although with trepidation he turns to see what she's going to do.
“Y/n-” The alpha begins with a smile when he is interrupted by a slap. He looks at her in surprise.
“I don't care what you say about me, but you have no right to sully my alpha's name with your filthy mouth.”
The statement makes Gally's heart race, did she really say he was her alpha? He doesn't have long to process it before the greenie tries to advance on the omega but Gally is quicker and puts himself between the two to protect her.
“Okay, that's enough!” Alby declares, “I told you about the fourth rule, right? Don't mess with other people's omegas.”
“It's just that a few minutes ago it was rumored that it didn't belong to him”
S/n gently hugs Gally's arm, making him look at her. He gently releases his arm from her grip and wraps his arms around her, pulling her to his chest.
“It was said. Maybe you should have listened better what was being said. Y/n has been Gally's since her first day. An argument won't change that.”
Everyone around agrees with Alby.
“You're spending your first night in the pit greenie,” Alby declares as Minho and Ben grab him.
Gradually the gladers gather around but Y/n and Gally remain in the same position until she speaks.
“Your omega?”
“Your alpha?” He retorts
“I had it before”
Gally swallows, remembering how he reacted that morning.
“I thought you were kidding me” He sighs.
Y/n lifts his face from Gally's chest to meet his gaze “Why would I be joking?”
“I don't know, I just - it didn't seem real that you could really like me”
Y/n frowns “Why not?” She asks but he doesn't answer. Instead he rests his forehead on her shoulder.
Omega feels her heart breaking. Was he really that insecure?
“Alpha” Y/n calls out to him, making him look at her. With a sweet smile she closes the distance between them. As their lips touch she can feel him relax completely and put his hands on her waist pressing her further into him.
“I love you” Gally and Y/n declare at the same time as they break the kiss. Laughing, he pulls her back in for another kiss.
“I noticed you took your hammock away from mine” Y/n blushes as he realizes “Which means you'll have to sleep with me in mine tonight”.
Y/n laughs “Was that supposed to be a punishment?”
That night and the next until they finally built their own hut they shared the hammock. Y/n was already considered Gally's girl before but now no soul could dare doubt it.
Watching her sleep on his chest, Gally couldn't help but feel stupid for having thought she was just playing with him. Although he still didn't know exactly what she saw in him, now he had no doubt that they both felt the same way.

Hey dear :D can you tell us about your headcanons on Jango training the Alphas ? :D
I finally got here to answer this ask. <3
And ooooh boy do I have??? Only angsty ones, love.
I use RepComm lore as a base of my headcanons, just to make clear in what continuity I'm creating in. And that means: NO INHIBITOR CHIPS.
The whole idea of the Clone Army revolves around one thing ultimately: to completely exterminate the jedi. To create an army that is ready for the decisive moment of taking down the enemies of the Sith without the jedi even noticing what is coming at them.
The trainers of course didn't know that this is the ultimate goal of the army, but they knew they had to train a whole army for a future war that who knows when will come. They had be loyal. And they had to be effective.
Every trainer had different approach:
Kal Skirata used love and insisted on the importance of comradeship which ultimately didn't necesserily made his commandos loyal to the Republic, but to each other.
Walon Vau used harsh discipline and insisted on the importance to make his commandos remember: they are superior than others and they have the most important mission in their life. Nothing awaits them outside because they have everything they need: their duty. Vau's trainees remained loyal even after the regime change.
And then we have the Alpha ARC Troopers trained by Jango Fett.
The Alpha ARCs in their mind are the unaltered version of Jango Fett. 100 copy of Jango Fett with their brain remained untouched (compared to the Nulls who's brain was tampered with). Meaning, the Alpha's undying loyalty to the Republic is not pre-programmed, it is not in their genes. It is conditioned with traditional methods: And that is FEAR.
More under the cut
Tumblr media
Jango Fett didn't care about the clones and I will sparta-kick everyone from this hill who tries to fight me. I don't have a single worldbuilding where Jango was a "good daddy" for the Clones. He was a great, loving and caring father to Boba and Boba alone.
For him, the clones are products, but also they are part of his agenda: Even he dies, there will be millions of Jango Fetts who will fulfill his revenge of killing off all the Jedi.
The books often mention that Jango was a sociopath (meaning he is on the spectrum of ASPD), and this template was able to make the clones to be so effective. His brain is just built different and wasn't cluttered with moral based inhibitions. That's why I think that Jango wasn't actually a sadist who enjoyed tormenting his trainees - The Alphas - out of joy and personal amusement. It served the purpose, it was all pragmatic.
Tumblr media
There wasn't any more description what was Alpha's training like on Kamino but these little snippets of lores made my brain go brrrrrrr about the theories. If the Alphas - THE ALPHAS!!!! - were scared of Jango it could mean that their training included something that gave a reason to fear him.
We know that he installed his own commands into the Alphas such us destroying the Clone Facility in case of Separatist attack on Kamino which Alpha-17 almost fulfilled. But also, being unquestionably loyal to the Jedi. For me, these commands weren't installed. I truly love the unaltered brain-Alphas.
-- Physical pain --
When you are in the military and under training, the line between educational violence and actual physical abuse is very thin. Insubordination had to be punished. Jango had to make sure that the Alphas remain loyal despite not having the same inhibitions like the rest of the clones, so there must have been exercises where he tested how far the Alphas would go to fullfill their duties, achieve victory, enforce an order, AT ALL COST.
They had to put through physical hell, pushed over their limits, pushed over their thresholds and beyond. If caught crying, if caught showing pain, if caught showing the single muscle of questioning Jango's orders, they had to be punished. They weren't made to compete with each other, but they also couldn't protect each other publicly when Jango punished the Alphas for insubordination. They had to watch. They had to learn from it.
The Alphas found secret ways to communicate with each other. To find comfort in each other in one way or another. Oh they knew the concept of love and caring. They watched Jango and Boba from the distance. The reassuring words. The caring touches of a father. They watched how the Nulls were running to their precious sergeant for comfort when hurt. They were very much aware that this is not something they would get.
-- RECONDITION: THE ULTIMATE DEATH --
The Alphas needed only one case of serious insubordination to learn their places and that was Alpha-Ø2. He was truly an independent mind and free-thinker, a true inspiration to thrive for individualism in the sea of Jango Fetts. Spar refused to comply and refused to sworn loyalty to "a republic" which he didn't knew.
And one day Alpha-Ø2 disappeared. Only to return without his memories. Returning without his fiery temper, without his free-spirit... and without any knowledge of how he used to love his Alpha-brothers dearly.
The brainwashing of the Alphas were so much successful later in time, when Alpha-Ø2 - called now Spar - actually deserted at age 8, two years before Geonosis, most of the Alphas felt disgust just by thinking about him - they had to.
Alphas had to believe that Spar was the utter disgrace to the Republic, otherwise it would mean, that they were actually treated wrong.
They had no idea that Spar's desertion was orchestrated by Mij Gilamar and Jango Fett himself after Spar regained his memories - probably the only mercy Jango showed for a clone.
-- Jango had to find the perfect balance --
The Kaminoans wanted soldiers who are independent thinkers but still loyal. Completely supressing their individualism wasn't an option, learned from Spar's case.
What the Alphas did in their non-existent freetime wasn't his business. But the Alphas had to drop everything that is them, when Jango ordered them to do so.
Jango hated every form of authority and realized that the Alphas inherited this trait for his disdain. So he used this train in them to be more effective as advisors for the Jedi. The Alphas had to make sure the Jedi survive until the critical point after all.
Alpha-17 is the smartest of them and the closest thing they had for Spar, which made him always walking on thin ice.
Tavo and Sull, lovebirds.
Maze had knowledge of wide variety of things due to reading forbidden literature that wasn't their in their curriculum.
Fordo communicated only through sign language due to trauma, and his closest friends learned too so they can speak to each other. He only spoke when Jango ordered him to do so.
They were smart enough to know what is was truly considered disobedience. And that was going against the Republic and Jango. If they comply to these rules, they will be safe.
-- ALPHA vs NULL conflict --
Tumblr media
Jango always had to remind the Alphas that they were expected to be better than their precedessors, the Nulls. If they fail to meet with the standards, they won't have "a kal skirata" to save them from recondition.
Alpha-Ø2 sure didn't have.
The Alphas after a while didn't need outside motivation to be obedient and loyal. Because they were meant to be everything the Nulls couldn't be. Seeing the examples with their own eyes, how chaotic the Nulls were, how the Nulls as children were actually unruly and sadistic toward the kaminoan technicians, how they disobeyed everyone who was not Kal Skirata, they finally saw what is expected from them: BE BETTER THAN THEM.
And they finally found their positive reassurance on their own. How to take pride in being the true servants of the Republic. Only the Nulls didn't give a shit about this rivalry. They didn't care about Jango or the Alphas or being better than the Alphas.
Being obedient without question was totally against he Alphas nature but they tried. They tried fucking hard.
Alphas: We are the perfect soldiers of the Republic because we are obedient, well-behaved, and we don't cause trouble to our trainers unlike you.
Nulls: We are perfect soldiers because Kal'buir said so, nyenyenyeeeee!!!
Indeed. That Alpha's didn't have "a kal skirata" in their life to tell them they are enough. That they are perfect. That they do the best. Because their best was never enough.
And they weren't enough.
The Alpha ARCs deemed to be failure in the end and their template genes weren't put in to mass-production. When the deployment to Geonosis began, they realized that they weren't meant to be used in the battle and it almost broke them.
Despite their effort and hard work, the Alphas still deemed a failure. Unpredictable, unruly, and because they didn't have any inhibition in them, the Kaminoan didn't trust that they would fulfill their roles. Alphas had to watch the Nulls leave to Geonosis while they were put into stasis.
They didn't have "a kal skirata" to save them from this fate. They didn't have Jango Fett, he wasn't there at all.
They were all alone.
-- Did Jango's approach work? --
My answer is: no.
Despite the conditioning, the Alphas had wide-variety of reactions to the Republic, to the Jedi, and Order 66.
Some were able to shake down the effects of the conditioning, and realized that this dead man won't come after them from the grave to punish them for disobedience.
Some Alpha deserted and died by the hands of Clone Assassins sent after them during the Clone Wars.
Some Alpha remained loyal to Jango's orders, the Republic and then the Empire, training the new generation of soldiers.
Some Alpha went into hiding and became bounty hunters.
Ultimately, how they interacted with the world around them as individual and how the environment treated them decided their own fate.

Alpha pile!
I wanted to give Maze some love after reading Triple Zero and what better way for that to happen than for his Kih'vode to drag him into a vod pile?

Alpha-17 being a mother hen to the other Alphas* is something we need to see more. Jangotat survives because Alpha stomps in, shrieking obscenities, and drags his ass away, pausing only to yell at Obi-Wan for daring to put his little brother in danger (nevermind that that's what they're currently supposed to do). Maze doesn't tell him about Ordo punching him because if he did, Alpha would make sure the body wouldn't be recognizable as a corpse. Muzzle and Fordo don't get that brotherly overprotectiveness because they're just as prone to mother-henning as Alpha is. On their days off, the three of them team up to make the lives of anyone who dares fuck with their siblings hell.
*Specifically the Alphas that serve the Republic. Do you really think Mr. "They grow up loyal to the Republic or they don't grow up at all" would be at all sympathetic to Sull and Spar's reasons? The best case scenario is that he tells them that he's pulled some strings (read: blackmailed and threatened) to get them back into the GAR scot-free and if they do not accept it he will break their fucking limbs and drag them back.
