Hey dear :D can you tell us about your headcanons on Jango training the Alphas ? :D
I finally got here to answer this ask. <3
And ooooh boy do I have??? Only angsty ones, love.
I use RepComm lore as a base of my headcanons, just to make clear in what continuity I'm creating in. And that means: NO INHIBITOR CHIPS.
The whole idea of the Clone Army revolves around one thing ultimately: to completely exterminate the jedi. To create an army that is ready for the decisive moment of taking down the enemies of the Sith without the jedi even noticing what is coming at them.
The trainers of course didn't know that this is the ultimate goal of the army, but they knew they had to train a whole army for a future war that who knows when will come. They had be loyal. And they had to be effective.
Every trainer had different approach:
Kal Skirata used love and insisted on the importance of comradeship which ultimately didn't necesserily made his commandos loyal to the Republic, but to each other.
Walon Vau used harsh discipline and insisted on the importance to make his commandos remember: they are superior than others and they have the most important mission in their life. Nothing awaits them outside because they have everything they need: their duty. Vau's trainees remained loyal even after the regime change.
And then we have the Alpha ARC Troopers trained by Jango Fett.
The Alpha ARCs in their mind are the unaltered version of Jango Fett. 100 copy of Jango Fett with their brain remained untouched (compared to the Nulls who's brain was tampered with). Meaning, the Alpha's undying loyalty to the Republic is not pre-programmed, it is not in their genes. It is conditioned with traditional methods: And that is FEAR.
More under the cut
Tumblr media
Jango Fett didn't care about the clones and I will sparta-kick everyone from this hill who tries to fight me. I don't have a single worldbuilding where Jango was a "good daddy" for the Clones. He was a great, loving and caring father to Boba and Boba alone.
For him, the clones are products, but also they are part of his agenda: Even he dies, there will be millions of Jango Fetts who will fulfill his revenge of killing off all the Jedi.
The books often mention that Jango was a sociopath (meaning he is on the spectrum of ASPD), and this template was able to make the clones to be so effective. His brain is just built different and wasn't cluttered with moral based inhibitions. That's why I think that Jango wasn't actually a sadist who enjoyed tormenting his trainees - The Alphas - out of joy and personal amusement. It served the purpose, it was all pragmatic.
Tumblr media
There wasn't any more description what was Alpha's training like on Kamino but these little snippets of lores made my brain go brrrrrrr about the theories. If the Alphas - THE ALPHAS!!!! - were scared of Jango it could mean that their training included something that gave a reason to fear him.
We know that he installed his own commands into the Alphas such us destroying the Clone Facility in case of Separatist attack on Kamino which Alpha-17 almost fulfilled. But also, being unquestionably loyal to the Jedi. For me, these commands weren't installed. I truly love the unaltered brain-Alphas.
-- Physical pain --
When you are in the military and under training, the line between educational violence and actual physical abuse is very thin. Insubordination had to be punished. Jango had to make sure that the Alphas remain loyal despite not having the same inhibitions like the rest of the clones, so there must have been exercises where he tested how far the Alphas would go to fullfill their duties, achieve victory, enforce an order, AT ALL COST.
They had to put through physical hell, pushed over their limits, pushed over their thresholds and beyond. If caught crying, if caught showing pain, if caught showing the single muscle of questioning Jango's orders, they had to be punished. They weren't made to compete with each other, but they also couldn't protect each other publicly when Jango punished the Alphas for insubordination. They had to watch. They had to learn from it.
The Alphas found secret ways to communicate with each other. To find comfort in each other in one way or another. Oh they knew the concept of love and caring. They watched Jango and Boba from the distance. The reassuring words. The caring touches of a father. They watched how the Nulls were running to their precious sergeant for comfort when hurt. They were very much aware that this is not something they would get.
-- RECONDITION: THE ULTIMATE DEATH --
The Alphas needed only one case of serious insubordination to learn their places and that was Alpha-Ø2. He was truly an independent mind and free-thinker, a true inspiration to thrive for individualism in the sea of Jango Fetts. Spar refused to comply and refused to sworn loyalty to "a republic" which he didn't knew.
And one day Alpha-Ø2 disappeared. Only to return without his memories. Returning without his fiery temper, without his free-spirit... and without any knowledge of how he used to love his Alpha-brothers dearly.
The brainwashing of the Alphas were so much successful later in time, when Alpha-Ø2 - called now Spar - actually deserted at age 8, two years before Geonosis, most of the Alphas felt disgust just by thinking about him - they had to.
Alphas had to believe that Spar was the utter disgrace to the Republic, otherwise it would mean, that they were actually treated wrong.
They had no idea that Spar's desertion was orchestrated by Mij Gilamar and Jango Fett himself after Spar regained his memories - probably the only mercy Jango showed for a clone.
-- Jango had to find the perfect balance --
The Kaminoans wanted soldiers who are independent thinkers but still loyal. Completely supressing their individualism wasn't an option, learned from Spar's case.
What the Alphas did in their non-existent freetime wasn't his business. But the Alphas had to drop everything that is them, when Jango ordered them to do so.
Jango hated every form of authority and realized that the Alphas inherited this trait for his disdain. So he used this train in them to be more effective as advisors for the Jedi. The Alphas had to make sure the Jedi survive until the critical point after all.
Alpha-17 is the smartest of them and the closest thing they had for Spar, which made him always walking on thin ice.
Tavo and Sull, lovebirds.
Maze had knowledge of wide variety of things due to reading forbidden literature that wasn't their in their curriculum.
Fordo communicated only through sign language due to trauma, and his closest friends learned too so they can speak to each other. He only spoke when Jango ordered him to do so.
They were smart enough to know what is was truly considered disobedience. And that was going against the Republic and Jango. If they comply to these rules, they will be safe.
-- ALPHA vs NULL conflict --
Tumblr media
Jango always had to remind the Alphas that they were expected to be better than their precedessors, the Nulls. If they fail to meet with the standards, they won't have "a kal skirata" to save them from recondition.
Alpha-Ø2 sure didn't have.
The Alphas after a while didn't need outside motivation to be obedient and loyal. Because they were meant to be everything the Nulls couldn't be. Seeing the examples with their own eyes, how chaotic the Nulls were, how the Nulls as children were actually unruly and sadistic toward the kaminoan technicians, how they disobeyed everyone who was not Kal Skirata, they finally saw what is expected from them: BE BETTER THAN THEM.
And they finally found their positive reassurance on their own. How to take pride in being the true servants of the Republic. Only the Nulls didn't give a shit about this rivalry. They didn't care about Jango or the Alphas or being better than the Alphas.
Being obedient without question was totally against he Alphas nature but they tried. They tried fucking hard.
Alphas: We are the perfect soldiers of the Republic because we are obedient, well-behaved, and we don't cause trouble to our trainers unlike you.
Nulls: We are perfect soldiers because Kal'buir said so, nyenyenyeeeee!!!
Indeed. That Alpha's didn't have "a kal skirata" in their life to tell them they are enough. That they are perfect. That they do the best. Because their best was never enough.
And they weren't enough.
The Alpha ARCs deemed to be failure in the end and their template genes weren't put in to mass-production. When the deployment to Geonosis began, they realized that they weren't meant to be used in the battle and it almost broke them.
Despite their effort and hard work, the Alphas still deemed a failure. Unpredictable, unruly, and because they didn't have any inhibition in them, the Kaminoan didn't trust that they would fulfill their roles. Alphas had to watch the Nulls leave to Geonosis while they were put into stasis.
They didn't have "a kal skirata" to save them from this fate. They didn't have Jango Fett, he wasn't there at all.
They were all alone.
-- Did Jango's approach work? --
My answer is: no.
Despite the conditioning, the Alphas had wide-variety of reactions to the Republic, to the Jedi, and Order 66.
Some were able to shake down the effects of the conditioning, and realized that this dead man won't come after them from the grave to punish them for disobedience.
Some Alpha deserted and died by the hands of Clone Assassins sent after them during the Clone Wars.
Some Alpha remained loyal to Jango's orders, the Republic and then the Empire, training the new generation of soldiers.
Some Alpha went into hiding and became bounty hunters.
Ultimately, how they interacted with the world around them as individual and how the environment treated them decided their own fate.

Alpha pile!
I wanted to give Maze some love after reading Triple Zero and what better way for that to happen than for his Kih'vode to drag him into a vod pile?
I finished this right before my copy of True Colors got here so it is time to go continue my journey through the Republic Commando Books!!
From left to right you have
Front: unnamed commander (brightest yellow), Maze, Stec, Fordo, Mar'ek (brightest blue), Jangotat, Tavo, unnamed Pilot (protectors symbol), Sull
Back: Trantos, Muzzle, Alpha-17, Spar, Aven

(Thanks to @feelinkeeli for suggesting this clone!)
Muzzle is feeling something he’s mentally relating to claustrophobia from being in this system so long. For the first year of the war, Maze and Fett tossed him at little problems, letting him go solo at first and then assigning him a babysitter of a LT after the little incident with Admiral Tarkin—the bastard deserved to get his jaw broken—and then a few missions later he’d gotten stuck here, leading an offensive against one of the most annoying generals the Separatists must possess.
The men that are, somehow, under him no longer cower to his glares. They ask him how he’s doing. They cheer him on.
Who do they think he is, Spar?
Speaking of that particular mess, Spar and his Jetiise should be arriving any minute. It’s hard to rail against his fate, stuck here, when this was supposed to be Spar’s life. Instead he’s stuck playing Fett’s political game, trying to keep the other Alphas from worrying too much about him. Muzzle knows better, though. Hell, even Sull and Tavo and their little clique who tried to not pay too much attention to Spar back on Kamino know.
He’s sick. Even if he mostly looks better, he’s still sick.
“Sir, the proscribed ship is approaching. They’re being directed to the docking bay,” Muzzle’s LT, Dennis, says, looking more anxious than usual.
Muzzle barely spares him a glance and heads off to the docking bay. “Medics on stand-by?”
“Yes sir, just like last time.”
Spar’d come by last on one of Muzzle’s first missions with Dennis. Muzzle may have…overdone it, if his LT’s remembering it so well. “Good.”
Muzzle waits in an appropriate parade rest as the ship ramp comes down, but any view of him as a stern ARC is absolutely smashed by the way Spar comes flying down the ramp and nearly tackles him to the ground. It’s absolutely done in when he hugs Spar back. “Su cuy’gar, shebs,” he mutters.
Spar laughs, loud and joyful and a little forced. “Su cuy’gar, al’verde,” he retorts, dropping back to the metal floor of the docking bay.
Muzzle grimaces. “Who are you calling al’verde, eh?”
Spar blinks, then looks over at Dennis.
Muzzle also looks at Dennis who abruptly drops his hands from whatever sign he was making and attempts to look innocent. Unfortunately for Dennis, he can’t even look innocent when he is, which is rare enough anyway. “What?”
“Nothing, sir,” Dennis says quickly.
Spar frowns. “Come on, don’t tell me no one told him.”
Dennis looks away.
“Did you even tell him you got a promotion?”
“What?” Muzzle asks. “Wait, what rank are you now?”
Dennis will not meet his eyes. “...Captain,” he admits, mumbling the world.
Okay, so they have the same rank now—. “And what rank do I have, Captain?”
“...Commander.”
Spar snickers. “I bet Maze didn’t want to scare you.”
“Scare me. Sure. More like he knows I’ll go back to Coruscant and kill him for this—wait does this mean…” No. No.
“You are the proud commander of a very decorated battalion,” Spar assures him. “They were very happy to petition for your promotion so they could keep you.”
Muzzle looks down at him. “I’m killing Maze.”
“Not until the war is won.”
Ugh. He’s right. They unfortunately need Maze to do all the paperwork and keep Fett from replacing the duraplast of their armour with cured aiwha hide.
Spar pats his shoulder. “Good man. Now deal with the fact you got promoted like an adult and not a cadet.”
Muzzle wrinkles his nose at him.
Spar smiles.
One of the Jetiise clears their throat and Muzzle has to remember that right. Spar isn’t alone.
That’s something, at least.
(I am not currently accepting clones to subject to Spar.)

Clone Roster
List of Alpha ARCs
2: Spar 4: Tavo (head canon) 6: Cyclo (OC) 7: Nas (OC) 8: Sheres (OC) 9: Hyran (OC) 16: Jaster (OC) 17: Alpha (Sev/Ven to the ones he’s closest to: Sheres & Jaster) 26: Maze 30: Sull 54: Turhaya (OC) 58: Trantos 66: Muzzle 77: Fordo N/A: Mar’ek N/A: Stec N/A: Aven
Note when I say OC, I mean mine. There may very well be other peoples' Alpha ARC OCs with the same number. I really don't care lol It's all about having fun and giving the Alpha cohort attention they don't get otherwise.
List of clones I have a lot of love/interest for and which medium they're from:
Darman Skirata (Repcomm) Fi Skirata (Repcomm) Corr (RepComm) Wolffe (The Clone Wars) Jesse (The Clone Wars) Hardcase (The Clone Wars) 99 (The Clone Wars) Sergeant Crasher (The Clone Wars)
Tagging list for finding certain info can be found here. And I will emphasize again I do not use numbers unless the clone has specified to use them (Alpha Seventeen).

Luminous, Part 27
Fuck. Alpha-17 resisted the temptation to run, striding down the corridors as fast as he could without panicking the tubies. Fuck fuck fucking sith-spawned piece of osik! The comm clicked on, and to his relief, Tavo was on the other end.
“Got your message. What’s going on?”
Alpha-17 didn’t waste time with pleasantries. “Dooku is leaving. And he’s told the longnecks he wants a squad to go with him. As escort.”
“Shit.” The profanity was low-voiced but heartfelt. One of the benefits in working with fellow alphas was that 17 didn’t need to spell out the obvious. Namely, why would a Sith chasing a Jedi need protection? At best, the unlucky squad assigned to Dooku would likely be used as bait to lure Ben out. At worst ….
“Who are they sending?” Tavo asked. It went without saying that there was no way they could prevent the squad from going. Not without tipping their hand and endangering every clone on Kamino.
“Sando squad,” Alpha-17 said.
“FUCK.” Tavo added a few more pungent words under his breath before cutting himself off. “With Ram in command?”
“Correct. You see the problem.” Alpha-17’s voice was hard as stone, and just as unforgiving. Sando squad had some good men, even if none of them had been blooded in a real fight yet. But their CC … Alpha-17 had long suspected that the Kaminoans’ genetic tinkering had taken a little too well in some brothers, and Ram was a prime example. Ram was a good CC, capable and smart. He tore through the flash-training and command-track drills like they were easy. But in Alpha-17’s opinion, he was also far too eager to please. Too obedient. If a superior officer told him to take his squad and go jump off a cliff, Ram wouldn’t even think to ask why on the way down.
It wasn’t inexperience. They all had learned too many hard lessons from trainers like Priest and Vau, and from the indifference and casual cruelty of the longnecks, to be that naive. No, it was almost as if something was missing when it came to Ram; some part of his brain that wouldn’t allow him to question an order, regardless of how stupid or suicidal that order might be.
Ram wasn’t to blame for what the longnecks had done to him, but that didn’t solve the current problem. Of all the squads to choose from, why did it have to be that one?

How about 2? 🖊🖊
Let’s talk about Duse Squad then!(pronounced DOO-say; it basically means ‘trash’ in Mando’a, lol. They’re an entire squad of deserters.)
🖊Marrow! Marrow’s a commando, and the squad medic. He once pulled himself out of a collapsed building and patched up his own injuries. His squad had already been evac’d from the area by that point, and he’d been left behind. He tried to contact them but had no luck. Eventually, he learned that they’d all been lost in a shuttle explosion.
🖊Tem! (Yeah, I did that.) AKA Alpha-44. The leader of Duse Squad. His designation is my favorite number. Was trained to be loyal to the cause, but that only went so far when he realized that they don’t fix you when you break. Went looking for his buddies Sull and Tavo, who’d already gotten fed up with the GAR retirement plan. Didn’t find either of them, but did find Marrow, Leeds, Quell, and Buryc.

Sull, talking about Spar: I spent two months wondering if I'd ever see him again. I guess I expected him to miss me, too. Alpha 17: If you weren't constantly on long term missions, I'm sure he would have experienced a deep sense of loss. Sull: You know something? I always thought that beneath that cold, Alpha 17 exterior lay an even colder Alpha 17 interior. Now, I'm convinced you're a hopeless romantic. Alpha 17: There is no need to insult me, vod.

Alpha 17: I've made my decision. No parties.
Tavo: Is that your final word?
Alpha 17: Yeah.
Tavo: Good, then we won't have to hear anymore from you.

Alpha 17: I want to kill him.
Tavo: No.
Alpha 17: Please can't I kill him a little?
Tavo: NO!

Jango: What did I tell you? Sull: That we aren't allowed in the same room without supervision. Jango: Why? Tavo: ...Because we were stupid enough to fire a cannon indoors.

Alpha-17: *Wakes up out of a dead sleep in a cold sweat* “We’re laTE FOR TRAINING!”
Fordo: *Bolts upright* “FUCK!”
Maze: *Falls out of his bunk* “SHIT!”
Stec: *Jumps up from where he was asleep at his desk* “Oh god, oh force, Prime’s gonna hand us our asses on a plater for this one!”
Tavo, Aven, Nate, Mar’ek and Sull: *Feverishly getting their things together from around the barracks*
Spar: *Staring down at the floor in a forlorn haze of sleep deprivation* “Would it be wrong to throw myself off the highest platform into the ocean?”
Muzzle: “Wait a second, hold on, we graduated arc training 2 years ago! We’re grown troopers! Plus Fett’s dead We don’t go to training anymore!”
Everyone: *Nods and murmurs in agreement before going back to sleep.”
Trantos: *Bolts up at mock speed* “WE’RE THE TRAINERS!!!”
*The alpha barracks then erupted into a flurry of chaos on a level Kamino had never seen before. Somewhere else the nulls laugh, it was there idea to mess up everyone’s clocks*

I headcanon that the alpha arc’s when their on their own their forces to be reckoned with but when you get them all together they’ve got -1,000,000 brain cells between them. Like you walk into their barracks and the first thing you noticed it’s loud af, theirs graffiti all over the walls, its hot as shit, there is no main singular source of light in the whole place, but it’s not stinky or dirty in their barracks at all tho because their better than that. But you got a group over in one corner playing an intense game of sabbac, another group in the other corner that can’t stop wheezing over some stupid joke, somebody’s working on something so theirs machine parts all over the floor down one of the isles, one guys parkoring up the wall, theres a couple of them trying to out drink the other, somebody’s trying to light a fire in a garbage bin even tho it’s alright hot af in there, there’s music blaring from a radio somewhere, someone’s smoking something and it’s fogging up the whole place, ya got a bunch of them on the top bunks playing the ultimate game of catch and nearly toppling all the bunks, there’s an ongoing arm wrestling championship happening in the middle of the room and there’s a whole crowd of them cheering them on and keeping score, your gonna hear the loudest belches and yawns you’ve ever heard in your life, if they got windows in there their all open and fogged up and they got a big ass fan going in the back of the room, there’s another guy across the way getting a tattoo, another guy by the far wall trying to do his own piercing in a broken mirror while trying not to get bumped into by the other guys that are running laps around the barracks, somehow one of them is absolutely passed out taking the fattest nap of their life in the midst of all of this, above him on the top bunk another guy is stoned and got snacks he’s working on, a bunch of them are sparing in the front and it’s getting a little overly violent, there’s a food fight going on somewhere in the middle isles and the entire ceiling is covered in posters and photos and shit. It’s chaotic for sure but not frat boy chaotic oh no, it’s more a controlled but unsupervised ‘older siblings were left in charge and now illegal things are happening’ kind of chaotic.
