Emotion and Trusting

Merriam Webster defines "emotion" as the effective aspect of consciousness.  Well, all I know is that these days, I am overwhelmed with emotion: the good, the bad and the ugly, mostly ugly. Let me share a little personal nugget with you, my readers: I am an anxious sort of person. I hate not being able to control the important aspects of my life. I know that is a normal flaw we humans have, but I have it to a very strong extent. It is something I am aware of and try to control (see? even that I have to control). 

It was once said that artists feel things differently than "normal" people, that we feel more and more deeply. I may be biased, but I agree with that. I am not like most people. There is a theory in psychology that people are more prone to use one side of their brain, the left or the right, over the other. The left housing logic, numbers, language, critical thinking and reasoning while the right art, color, recognition, expression, reading emotions, images, intuition, creativity and music are. I have always been a right-sided person. I always excelled in art, history, English and of course, music. I've had 15+ years vocal training, I can read music and I play piano by ear. I can draw very well, especially in human likeness. I've always been told by my teachers, counselors and professors that I am a typical, creative right-brained sorta girl. Okay, awesome. I also though, especially when you get to know me well, am a stubbornly left-brained individual, especially when it comes to logic and reasoning. I always have several (usually 7-10) lists going per day, call it OCD, but every item must be checked off said lists before I go to bed each night. This is where my stubborn, logical, flawed human-self and faith can conflict. If something is not logical, I have a hard time doing it or trying not to control the situation.

The Bible says in Philippians chapter 4 verses 6-7,

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely NO DOUBT that God is beyond capable of taking care of all of these emotions and problems we all face on a daily basis, but in the meantime the question is how to be patient.

Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Looking up verses that have to give me comfort with these emotions and anxiety is step 1. I do my best and surrender it all to God. After that, I try to make lists of steps or goals of things I can change or improve on until the bigger picture is revealed to me. 

2 Corinthians 12:9 "And he said unto me, 'My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.' Most gladly therefore will I rather boast in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

After that, I vent -- currently, right here in the Tumblr-sphere. I know that things will be taken care of for me, and that God is just being funny and teaching my stubborn-self to be patient and hold tightly onto Him.
