Stack of Coincidences

One of my favorite things about Andrew and Neil using social media as Exy pros is the willful, default obliviousness of the public concerning similarities in their posts and pictures

These are the same two cats, okay, but Neil abbreviates them to things like Fatty and Fluff while Andrew calls them Sir and King.

Neil takes selfies with the cats while Andrew posts blurred and butt-angle shots of them doing stupid things. It's hard to tell they own the same animals.

Neil will post photos of the cats sleeping on Andrew but clearly they're supposed to be compromising photos posted to ruin Andrew's uncaring cool image, left over from college before they became bitter rivals.

Or they must be having a whole 'old Foxes' team get together and the traitorous cats just like Andrew, unlike their owner. Clearly. The men wouldn't just hang out.

Andrew posts pictures of bumblebee and fox Halloween pet costumes. Neil posts the cats wearing them. Andrew must have sent dumb costumes to Neil and Neil put them on his cats anyway as a "fuck you, thanks for spending money, my cats look amazing in them".

They both have the same Palmetto blanket on their bed, totally expected given they have the same Alma Mater.

Renee posts a photo of her and Neil baking in the kitchen and tags the location as Andrew's apartment (it was his first before it was theirs so it's "Andrew's place" as an existing tag location) but clearly she selected the wrong location out of a list because that's Neil's kitchen.

His fans have seen it lots because he sometimes liveblogs what he calls "Learning To Cook Healthy, One Disaster At A Time". It's immensely entertaining and relatable and humanizes him a bit.

There's that one time Andrew took photos of said disgusting disaster on a plate and complained about how gross it was and everyone thought it was hilarious he'd "followed along with Neil's live blogging, cooked the same monstrosity, and roasted his rival's cooking skills on social media".

Especially when he ended his commentary with "this will kill me faster than ice cream, fucking junkie".

On the other end of the spectrum are the THEY'RE MARRIED shipping conspiracy theorists who use all these "similarities" as evidence and who are actually Not Wrong.

Anyway I didn’t liveblog Takeover because I ended up watching it a couple of hours late, but just imagine several posts of screaming and sobbing about basically everything and that pretty much covers it

Sanity vs Rando Squad was a huge ton of fun, but if this doesn’t end with Tye Dillinger winning SOMETHING... how will we as a fandom live without this catharsis WE NEED THIS OKAY

I’m sad that Almas had to lose another thing but I can totally see why they matched those two up, both their wrestling styles and their taunt? styles? meshed crazy well.  (I remember when I first started watching shit I sometimes had a hard time telling the heel from the face and LET ME TELL YOU there was some first-time NXT viewer out there who was real confused about who to cheer for.)

Was Black’s thing as Tommy End that whole cross-legged thing or is that new?  it was like he spent the whole match trying to summon Shibata through angry squinting alone

TAG TEAM WRESTLING OH MY GOD.  TAG TEAM.  WRESTLING.  I COULD WRITE A FUCKING DISSERTATION ON WHAT AN INCREDIBLE END TO THE DIY/REVIVAL STORY THIS WAS, THEY’VE LEARNED EACH OTHER SO WELL THAT THEY CAN WORK ALMOST AS WELL WITH EACH OTHER AS WITH THEIR OWN TEAMMATES.  THE REVIVAL HAS THEIR TACTICS BUT DIY HAS THEIR NUMBER, THEY MAY NOT LIKE EACH OTHER BUT THEY RESPECT EACH OTHER.  I know there was some salt about DIY going out first but I honestly think that was the right call.  The faces go out with some plausible deniability because they technically were against two teams; the Revival spent the match slowly becoming the least-heel-heel and got a brief one on one vs AoP which I don’t believe they’ve had. I just hope all these perfect boys get their callups after Mania, not only because they deserve it but because this is where the story ought to end for now, it’s too perfect not to.

Asuka/Ember moon was probably the best NXT women’s match since Bayley/Sasha?  I’ve been hyped about it basically since Ember debuted and I was NOT DISAPPOINTED.  Honestly, this was exactly how I expected it to end - Ember would lose not 100% clean and she wouldn’t hit the Eclipse.  A bit of an Okada/Omega One-Winged Angel thing.  They’re gonna have another match and it’ll be even sicker.  The new womens’ belt is stellar.  Asuka is so good.  Ember is so good.  Westling is so good.

Roode/Nakamura was probably a wicked good match but I just didn’t care that much?  I intellectually know that Bobby Roode is a super good wrestler but the only thing I really connect with is his theme song, and as much as I love Nakamura it was (close to) a foregone conclusion that he was losing to get called up but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .  Mostly I was just too burned out from being hype, I think I just had no hype left to give.

The NCAA tournament starts tomorrow. Contrary to popular belief, I'm a huge sports fan, and college basketball is one of my favorites (my own alma mater tragically missed out on a ticket to the big dance this year but we won't talk about that) so you may see me post about it on tumblr. NXT Takeover Orlando Liveblog Review

Hey wrestling fans. I wrote this quick-hits / review / star rating. Hope you enjoy it. I liked the show, and here are my star ratings and results to lead off. Obviously, spoiler warning.

I love a good mystery partner angle. Although I love No Way Jose and will lament his loss.

Jesus RIP Tye Dillenger, this looks bad just two lines after that. But it was a pretty good match. Bla bla bla numbers game wins again. But it gradually got more fun and faster-paced, and you can't knock that too much. I guess **3/4!

Andrade Cien Almas vs. Aleister Black

What the fuck is this coffin-rising, wingdings font motherfucker Aleister Black?!

It's a pretty cool theme song though I have to admit. He has a pretty cool look but I was hoping for a little bit of superpowers.

Looks like his superpower is wrestling! And the mocking tranquilo was pretty cool.

UGGHHH Black Mass Spinning Heel Kick. I'm sick of strike finishers. Do a cool suplex or somethin.

Getting a little botchy there. I'm pretty sure Black got nowhere near kicking out of one of the "nearfalls".

But Black is doing God's work selling the arm.

It's at least a very crisp spinning heel kick strike finisher. **

NXT Tag Team Championship Authors of Pain [c]  vs. #DIY vs. The Revival

DIY are fun and I love the throwback nature of the AOP, but Revival still have something called the Shatter Machine.

New belts! TABLES!

Some good stuff through the middle, loved the Authors of Pain surviving the tables spot and double submission. The mixed partners stuff got a little goofy in the middle. And I dunno if the AOP were gassed, but seemed a little botchy toward the end. I still  am into it if it sets up a hoss off with Heavy Machinery for the titles. There could even be two tag team feuds at the same time! With Revival and #DIY still punching each other for a while to some gimmick blow off. Cage or street fight would be nice.

Anyways, this was kinda messy but mostly good. ***

NXT Women's Championship Asuka [c] vs. Ember Moon

Feels a little like the build and video package is setting Asuka up for a big fall. Not fully predicting a surprise Eclipse+pinfall a la Goldberg in 2 minutes, however.

Ember Moon giving a pretty inspired performance. But liking the work of Asuka being a little smarter once she got serious.

Asuka heeling is pretty tight, and I enjoyed how it was just on the line. But this was a pretty great match for making both look pretty good when there is no appealing challenger in the wings. ***1/4

Feels like a lot of heels winning tonight. Good news for Shinsuke?

WHAT'S DREW MCINTYRE DOING IN THE IMPACT ZONE

NXT Championship Main Event Bobby Roode [c] vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Despite that ending stretch that did a little devaluing of their respective finishers, I loved this. The selling was pretty good through the middle stretch, and this was a surprisingly compelling long match. (note: looked it up, 28 minutes)

This felt way more WWE-style than some of the other more compelling NXT Championship matches of the past. That's not a good thing or bad thing, just a different thing. Nakamura wasn't at his best for his sendoff night. ***3/4
