Ally's Thoughts on Percy Jackson Part 1
Overall, I thought the show was good! But I've seen so many bad takes on umm, everything? Absolutely everything, goodness me. Let me go over some things I've seen and jot some thoughts down. I will do these in parts.
Today's Topic: The cast is bad/not book-accurate
This comes from people who are upset that Annabeth didn't have blonde hair/wasn't white and that Percy didn't have dark hair etc. Also, the decision to cast Lin-Manuel Miranda is Hermes.
Actually, it's very book-accurate, having actual twelve-year-olds play 12-year-olds? OMG! I think people don't realise that some twelve-year-olds are just tiny, when was the last time you spoke to someone that age?
The race thing: it's clearly a thing, but as Leah said in an interview I saw that Rick told her to remember that she was his choice and really that's such a nice sentiment, we should be happy with his choice, I think she did an amazing job.
Walker, this sweet fair-haired boy -is- Percy. Sure he might have dark hair in the books but looking at him, hearing him talk? He's so Percy and I love him.
Next, Lin-Maunel Miranda as Hermes. Hermes isn't in the first book, so it was interesting he was included and an argument I saw more than once was 'he's not even hot? How is he out here being the god with the most children?'
Hmmm....hmmm? 🤔
People also seemed really surprised that he can act which of course he can, I don't see why this is brand new information? Silly peoples.
Everyone else was wonderfully cast too, mind you I think I'd like to see who they have in mind for Aphrodite, just so I can bonk her on the head for dumping Hephaestus. Timothy Odmunson is fine 😌

this is why i pray no one asks me how i got into percy jackson
#so my friends introduced it to me on a trip together when i was like 8#i had heard of it before but this was the first time anyone somewhat explained the plot “percy is the son of a greek god n has dyslexia”#and because they were into it i watched a lavendertowne video in her series called “by the book” and because of those videos i found out#about the movies. one day i was scrolling through my sister's dowloaded movies and saw percy jackson#i decided to hate watch it cause i heard it was bad but i actually liked it and felt so ashamed. i mean the first was was fine second one#was like just 90 minutes of nothing#i also liked watching this guy called movie flame and i watched some of his pjo vids (since i thought i'd never read pjo)#and i constantly rewatched his videos where he rants about the movies cause i loved them#and when pjotv's main trio's casting came out and i saw the cast i was like “omg they're perfect... and like... actual kids”#and i kid you not. the thing that convinced me to read the ENTIRE series was the thought of “wait- do 12-year-olds go into a casino?"#so technically i read for my friends technically i read cause i watched the movies technically i read cause of youtubers i liked and techni#ally i read for my friends#like i need to tell the whole story i can't just say one of the answers#sorry for typing this whole thing and only having like anxiety and stuff though and not ADHD and/or autism

PJO PRIDE HEADCANONS PT 2
• Castor was pansexual while Pollux is on the aro spec (demiromantic). Whenever Castor had a crush, Pollux would insist his twin could do better, or that they were "okay."
• Holly and Laurel compete in everything and if they ever end up crushing on the same person, it will also be a competition. Whoever can give them the best flowers, best date, etc. Essentially who can win the person's heart.
• If they crush on different people, the competition changes to who took their partner out on a better date.
• Nyssa is sapphic or unlabeled, probably just content with her work though she can point out a cute girl when she sees one.
• Chris Rodriguez is a bisexual, ambiamorous icon. (Ambiamorous is having more than 1 partner only if the person you're dating is okay with it. You don't mind not having more than one partner.)
• ^ Chris, Beckendorf, Silena, & Clarisse were definitely a polycule and when Silena and Beckendorf died, Chris & Clarisse got a tattoo with all 4 of their initials inside of a heart on their chests. (Clarisse won't ever say anything about it or admit to it.)
• Everyone thinks that because Butch is an Iris kid, he has to be LGBTQ+, but in reality he is just their biggest ally. He thinks the LGBTQ+ campers are extremely brave and admires them.
• But there's also trans Butch which I've started to like a lot
• Most campers think Connor is bisexual, but he's actually demi. He just likes to confuse them even more because he only hangs up the MLM flag.
• Connor tried to ask Malcolm out through a prank, because that's how Travis asked Katie out and it worked for them.
• Travis and Katie are Bi4Bi
• Clovis isn't labeled, so many (young) campers just think he's hetero. He's not awake long enough to care.
Warning: Leeluke below, don't like, don't look 👍
• Lee was the one to ask Luke out after 3 months of them flirting
• Luke fell first, but Lee fell harder
• Lee was pansexual, Luke was bisexual
• Luke always had his arm wrapped around Lee's waist or shoulder because Lee had so many people crushing on him due to his nurturing nature.
• Luke's betrayal was like a punch to the gut to Lee because the boy didn't leave anything for him. Not a note, goodbye, nothing.
• Lee saw Luke one final time before his death in BotL. It was right before SoM.
• For the first time in years, Lee had gone home for the school year, and Luke showed up outside his school. Lee punched him in the face before hugging him. It was an entire show for the courtyard. They spent the day enjoying each other's company. At the end of it, Luke told him everything he planned on doing, and said when Kronos rose, he'd come back for Lee.
• When Luke entered Elysium, Lee refused to talk to him at all. So many of his younger siblings had entered and he was rightfully upset.
• It took them 8 months before they could even be in the same room, but Luke had changed for the better and if it wasn't doing things to Lee's unbeating heart.
• Lee fell first this time, or maybe he had never really stopped falling, and asked Luke out, asked for a second chance for them.
• Turns out, second chances are worth it sometimes. Michael's jaw dropped when he saw and ranted endlessly, but Lee was happy that Luke had changed in the end.
• "Ain't no way I DIED and you're out here FORGIVING HIM!!!" - Michael Yew
• "I LEFT MY BOYFRIEND, LEE!!!"
• "And you can wait for him, Michael."
• "Bitch."

Just my little rant about me being part of pride
I have almost nothing to dislike about conservatives. I even like a lot of their ideas, I just hate living in an overly conservative town. Everyone hates pride where I live, and that’s a problem for me. I have been a supporter/ally of pride people for years, but I recently realised I’m ace so that makes me part of pride (f u people who say asexuals and aromatics aren’t valid). I can’t tell anyone where I live. (Part of the reason I don’t share much personal info here) I hate this so much I have a bracelet with the ace colours in the proper order and says ace, and I can only wear it out of town. If I tell my parents I won’t survive another day, so I recently came out to my bi cousin and I honestly have never felt better. Is it supposed to feel that good? Sorry for the rant.
I literally get banned from everything gay (meaning like 1 !1! Gay couple that shows up more than twice) by my parents. They haven’t realised shera is gay yet, or pjo, and I’m praying they don’t.
#hiding solangelo from my parents so I don’t get banned from pjo#I only have a couple years before I can move out#chit chat with raven#i can’t wait to move#I got banned from Taylor swift because of#ttpd#I can’t lose anything else#pride month#happy pride 🌈#pride 2024#lgbtqia#pride community#ace#asexual#sorry for the rant#personal rant#mini rant#i could go on#but i wont

Best friend groups in UTMV and PJO/HoO, because that's all I'm thinking about!
It's a lot of me ranting, and spoilers for the books, so I'll put an undercut...
Luke and Dadmare. I can't stress this one enough. I feel like after dying and going to Elysium, Luke would feel some form of guilt for betraying his friends. Nightmare did the same!!
Unlike Luke, who never got a second chance to see his friends again, and truly apologize, Nightmare made his circle of people. I think Nightmare would help heal a lot of Luke's trauma with relationships and making connections. Not to mention Luke would be a good ally to Nightmare before his death.
Next, we have Ink and Rachel! Do I even need to explain that one?
Arts, painting, creating, all that good jazz. Not to mention their both kind of all knowing. Rachel being the Oracle and Ink is a Guardian.
Epic and Leo. Man, they'd be so tight.
The meeeeeemes. Think of the meeeeeeeemmmmmeeessss. Not to mention, I think having a friend he can joke around without judgment would help Leo a lot.
Percy, with XChara and XFrisk.
Both the kids have been abused by XGaster wanting to make a perfect world. He never considered their feelings or stopped to think about how they felt to lose their friends over and over. Like how the God's use Demigods. They were all pawns at some point. Besides, I think Percy would love to know their powers.
Last one for now, Error and Nico.
Both need silence? Check. Both have an annoying, happy go lucky partner? Double check. Both have or had destructive tendencies at some point? Check again.
Imagine them, chilling in the Anti-Void, eating chocolate, and watching Undernovela. It'd be a rocky start, but it's perfect in my mind...

do u have any madlyn hcs??? can be for canon or au, i just miss them sm
i don’t have an imagination right but OH can i give you some from atsv au 🗣️🗣️‼️‼️
before ashlyn finds out maddie is silk, she has a late night shift at the bugle, where she was telling herself she WONT leave until she’s got this one price of writing done. when she leaves, it’s dark out and she has to walk quite far to get back to her place. she notices after a few changes of direction and a handful of blocks, she’s being followed by three guys, masked. she’s panicking- where did she put that pepper spray? fuck. the bottom of her bag. ash turns another corner, and can practically hear them directly behind her now, they might as well be her shadow. ash is SOOO fucked. what’s she supposed to do now? she was about to be mugged, or worse. but suddenly it’s not just her and these three idiots down the street. a yell is heard from behind ash and she’s almost afraid to look. “HEY WHAT THE-” ashlyn turns around and sees them all, webbed up against the walls of a building beside her. and there silk is, standing proudly as she admires her work. “are-” when silk then looks over at ash, she then clears her throat, and a completely different voice comes out. maddox was going to have to hide it now. “are you okay… ma’am?” ash hadn’t had an interaction with any of the superheroes before, and she finds herself blushing slightly. it’s just the cold she told herself. “yes. thank you”
when finding out maddie is silk, ashlyn demands superhero dates AND normal dates. some nights she wants just a normal night with maddie on the couch watching the notebook, and then other days the two book a day off work and go swinging from building to building in new york city before stopping off at their favorite coffee shop (where jet works)
maddie and ashlyn have done the spiderman and mj kiss so many times. maddie thinks it’s cringy but ashlyn thinks it’s cute. maddie can’t argue with ash.
okay now pjo au 🗣️🗣️
PICNIC DATES 🕺🕺
they have so many picnic dates and forest dates UGH 😩😩 and ashlyn makes maddie flower crowns throughout the date and it’s just adorable yk?
when first going to chb, maddox didn’t really feel like she fitted in at all. but ej helped with that, and he introduced maddox to ashlyn that same year !! they were inseparable. ej kinda was like “oh. okay. didn’t see that coming but alr” (he said ALLY ✊) (gay boi)
maddie, ej and ricky love to go swimming together actually !! it’s annoying for jet tho because he oxidises in the water (he hates water in all universes as we discovered) so he just stands there and holds their towels. ashlyn meanwhile very sheepishly holds maddox’s towel and looks RESPECTFULLY🗣️🗣️
ej will then continue to tease ashlyn the whole time
ash and maddie finally get together when on that quest we were talking about when maddie gets injured and they have that heart to heart about ash always caring about maddox no matter what. maddie realises right there and then her heart is ash’s and probably always will be. on their way home from the quest, maddie just stops ash when she’s mid rant about how she can’t find the one and goes “oh my gods, ash you’re seriously dense-”
ashlyn completely and utterly melts. she never thought maddie would LIKE her back. gods maddox liking her back was as common in her brain as ej keeping his mouth shut and not teasing her.

top 5 characters with your zodiac sign (stolen from you), top 5 wlw pjo/hoo ships, top 5 tropes that you love and top 5 that you hate
top 5 characters with your zodiac sign (stolen from you), top 5 wlw pjo/hoo ships, top 5 tropes that you love and top 5 that you hate
5 characters with my zodiac sign I could only think of three canon Taurus chars I love so the last two I counted headcanons for, and neither of those characters has a canon birth date
canon taureans
•Hope Mikaelson (TVDu) ((I do see the arguments Ares sun fits her better but I think Taurus sun with other fire placements also fits her quite nicely and again I don’t have a lot of favorite characters with my sign let me have this lol)•Dan Wilds (Aftg) and we share a birthday!
•Emily Fields (technically in the Pll books she’s a Taurus and going off her show bday she’s a Scorpio but I do think that Taurus sun fits show Emily better overall too and Ik when we discussed this you agreed with me :))
And then two characters I’ve always seen as Taurus are Blue Sargent (Trc) and Marina Andrieski (The Magicians)
Top 5 wlw pjo/hoo ships
Pipeyna
Pipabeth
Reynabeth
Rueguard
this could be one of a couple ships depending on my mood but I’m going with Thalia x Zoe rn because it’s very underrated imo
Top 5 tropes I love (didn’t want to agonize over ranking these so bullet points again) •enemies to friends to lovers or any iteration on these things (lovers to enemies, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, reluctant allies to friends to lovers etc.) •doppelgängers, shadow selves and dynamics between a hero and their shadow selves can be a romance can be enemies etc. •anything to do with parallel worlds •the overachiever girl from a seemingly perfect (and this mean different things) background who struggles to fulfill familial expectations, is actually very unhinged at times and has some sort of spiral where she ends up off her original path at least for a while, and part of the subtext is usually about her repressed sapphic ness a la Spencer Hastings / Annie Edison / Julia Wicker
•the mean girl character who is originally set against the protagonist but as the story progresses she’s shown to be sympathetic and layered in her own right, and her relationship with the protagonist is allowed to develop into at least respect maybe friendship that’s usually pretty homoerotic. honorable mention to this specific flavor of opposites attract dynamics that’s like ‘on the surface we could not be more different but we can relate/connect/are actually more similar than anyone else when it comes to very specific things that aren’t obvious. And not really a trope which is why I didn’t include them but I love fantasy stories about witches and/or vampires. Also I can’t lie I do love a magical school setting. Codependent relationships in general. Sister stories!!! LOVE those. Bottle episodes and bottle episode adjacent episodes my beloved!! I have a lot of favorite tropes actually Top 5 tropes I hate
insta love I have exceptions and these exceptions are like, reincarnation stories such as dosab where there’s a reason for it and Rue x Jules because they simply had the range/chemistry. But usually I hate it. Also combining this with any fated/pre-destined/other forces or people are always telling the audience this pairing is meant to be without doing the work of showing/developing the relationship to be appealing/seem to work well together
mystical pregnancy, most pregnancy and baby story arcs in general
media concerned with parental/familial issues where all the mothers are demonized while the fathers get to be complicated parents like tm tended to do. Something I found refreshing about watching pll was that it was a total reverse of this with all the fathers being irredeemable monsters and the mothers being more complex
I ranted about this recently re: the va show but I really dislike when a fantasy work has this aspect of metaphorical bigotry as a theme and the characters who voice said bigotry are usually poc
Ik this is solely a fic thing but fucking hate abo lol
Thank you! (Ask me too 5 of anything)
#s speaks#pll#pjo#hoo#legacies#va#the magicians#trc#community#euphoria#dosab#just tagging whatever fandoms I specifically mentioned in the post I was alluding to / referring to others too

Idk if this is something you're even interested in hearing about, but for the majority of my very american white bread life, I thought that all of the stories like PJO and LO were cool and fun ways to spread greek mythos, while not really knowing myself the inaccuracies and disrespect these series both carry, not only to the values they claim to espouse such as anti-racism, spreading mental health awareness, and feminism, but just how wrong they get the Greek side of things too. I just feel/see more and more how majorily Americans refuse to believe that taking Greek culture and misrepresenting it, bastardizing it, and hollywood-izing it is a bad thing, and how it deserves some respect for the ancient culture it is beyond "hardy har zeus scum cheater man" and "uwu rick/smythe are the final opinion on greek mythos". It's become such a mainstream thing here for people to use LO and PJO as literal scholarly interpretations of myths and the entire reason Greek mythology is as popular today while simultaneously ignoring the work Greeks have done to make their culture known, and I myself don't know the half of their efforts. The entitlement to tell someone, from my own personal experience, that they have the right to retell and change myths to their own will just because greek myths happened to be taught in their history class therefore making it fair game for Americans is just... how can so many people who claim to be on the left not realize their own imperialism right there? And then, god forbid you ask them about anything about greek history or culture that isn't Alexander the Great or the Illiad. They know nothing of Greece's roll in WW2, or what the Ottomons did to them, nothing at all.
Sorry for the rant, but I felt you would have an opinion I haven't heard on it before and I'm trying to see how different people view this issue.
Aaaa oof. Okay..
One issue with "Greek myths" is that the version most ppl know now, was published by archeologists who interpreted the stories through their own lenses almost 100 years ago. Zeus wasn't the 'King of gods', that's some christian bs right there. The largest Temple ever found is the one for Hera in Samos. But still, all gods were equal. And myths are so different from place to place that I don't think you'll ever find the "original" story.
And don't talk to me about the Great Alexander, that monster. How ppl have hero worship for that prick is beyond me. Ironically his horse was called Bullhead.
So, you mentioned the Ottoman occupation.
⚠️ I'll mention violence.
We called it 600 years of enslavement by the Empire. And it was. The scars from that time are still with us today. When I say 'entire islands and cities were burned to the ground' I mean it. This year marks 200 years of liberty which is cool, but yeah I can't tell you what a kid feels when they look at their history and all they find is bloodshed.
Victims from Smyrna are still alive today. And if you read what happened there please be warned.
So Greece went from 600 years of occupation and slavery, to the Balkan Wars, to ww1, to civil war, to ww2, to more civil war, to martial law/ dictatorship in the 1970s, and now .. well, let's say, we've had democracy for 50 years. My dad was a kid during the Polytechnic Uprising where tanks ran over children in front of their parents.
I hesitate to say Greece is part of Europe or 'the Western world'. Because during each one of these tragedies the Allies watched my people burn and die. Should they have the authority to claim our history as their own? I don't know.
Anyway, I hate to leave you on a sad note so I'll just add that, during the wars Greece let women fight, look for Bubulina and Manto Mavrogenous. Those two were high ranking officers.
And for a funny (kind of) anecdote: Greeks celebrate the 28th of October as "Ochi day". And the story is that during ww2 an Italian ambassador told our prime minister "hand Greece over to us and there won't be war". Our prime minister simply told him "Ochi" which means "No." Though actually, he said "Alors, c’est la guerre." (So, it's war.) And then people ran out in the streets chanting "Oxi" cause you know... Fuck Mussolini. We actually won the battle with the Italians so sksksksk
I love this story cause it's so.. Greek. We said "Nope." And then celebrate it every year by singing very offensive songs about goofy fascists. It's great. If anyone wants to write a story in modern Greece, please know that every kid knows this song by heart.
youtube
Here are the lyrics translated, though I realize it's hard to comprehend. We have too many creative words. Macarona literally means Macaroni-man for example.

percabeth as songs bc they own me
in no particular order along with era i associate it with and three lyrics that made me choose it.
waves by dean lewis : so i picture this in the post-btol/pre-tlo yearning™ era. this would definetly be more percy centric but theres still some angsty percabeth content.
A feeling I thought was set in stone; It slips through my fingers: percy's reckoning with the fact that one of the only steady thing in his demigod life is changing, and for the first time he doesnt know how to act around his best friend. (and annabeth reckoning with the only steady thing in her life in general changing) its! about! the! yearning!
Down to the place we used to lay when we were kids: best friends percabeth stargazing. thats it.
I watched my wild youth; Disappear in front of my eyes; Moments of magic and wonder; It seems so hard to find; Is it ever coming back again? Take me back to the feeling when; Everything was left to find: ok whew. i think this is when percy really starts to realize how powerful he is and it frightens him. its no longer just oooh i can breathe underwater and oh cool i can will myself dry. he claimed the prophecy at the end of ttc, but the weight of it is heavier now. he misses when being a demigod was bright and shiny and new. he misses being a kid. and he misses being a kid with annabeth. he misses her calling him seaweed brain and ruffling his hair and explaining this world of gods and demigods and monsters to him.
bedroom ceiling by sody: also post-btol/pre-tlo era BUT annabeths perspective.
How am I supposed to know you're not the one? : ok so this may just be me but i have this hc that annabeth is terrified that loosing a love worse than death wasn't luke turning into kronos, but her and percy never going back to how they were. its worse than death because hes right there and can't look her in the eye. i think the not knowing whether it was him or luke kills her far after the quest is over.
I wonder if you're moving on; If you are, what's your secret? 'Cause I can't work out where to start: annabeth was definetley hit hardest by lukes betrayal/giving himself over to kronos, and i think one of the things that unsettles her so much about percy and rachel isnt just plain jealousy. she cant comprehend how percy can think about anything else but saving luke stopping kronos. but she wants to. she wants so desperately to hate luke and to stop caring about him like percy does so they can go back to what they were. but she cant.
Is your bedroom ceiling bored like mine? Of you staring at it all the time; 'Cause it's seen so many nights where I cry and I yell at the sky for not telling you how I feel : i mean. self explanatory.
i'll keep you safe by sleeping at last. i picture this as percy's silent vow to keep annabeth alive during tlo. he never expressly makes the promise but the sheer number of 'don't touch her'- especially after the incident on the bridge- says it all. (now you could most certainly place this in tartarus and it would fit just as well)
Hold out your hand, can you feel the weight of it? The whole world at your fingertips: THIS IS THE ACHILLES SPOT TERRACE SCENE YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. (side note that scene makes me go absolutely FERAL) also i just think that hands>>. on a more serious not the “can you feel the weight of the world at your fingertips” how percy holds the weight of the world on his shoulders and in sharing his weak spot he is sharing the burden.
You'll be an architect, so pull up your sleeves; and build a new silhouette in the skylines up ahead: c’mon man. yk what this means.
Our mistakes, they were bound to be made. But i promise you i'll keep you safe: when it comes down to it the angst, the fights, the jealousy, the confusing feelings dont matter. and as soon as they start fighting (and as soon as annabeth gets hurt and the prospect of losing her gets real, all that matters is seeing his best friend alive.
fine line by harry styles: this song encompasses percy and annabeths growth over the pjo series. im probably gonna do a percabeth edit once all five seasons come out bc of how perfectly it fits. so era is pjo in general but pre-hoo
You’ve got my devotion, but man I can hate you sometimes: this is tlt - som annabeth to percy. need i say more?
we’ll be the fine line: fine line is a great phrase for there entire relationship. until tlo they're always toeing against a line between something. the lines between reluctant allies to actual friends. pretty good friends to best friends. best friends to something more.
we’ll be alright: this is repeated in the song like a mantra growing louder and desperate. i like to think this is both a wish and a promise. even if they're life never slows down they’ll have each other and they'll make it alright.
if youre still here thanks for listening to me rant and attempt analysis. im a mess about them lmao. i have a ton more so if yall like it ill do a part two :)

On anon because pjo fandom can be brutal, but in TLC or maybe a crossover with PJO and TKC? It's either Percy or Carter who sees a family illegally immigrating and basically says "I minded my own business they have enough problems, hopefully they'll be okay" IT'S IN TEXT! People read too much into things that do not need to be read into and essentially make the author out to be worse than they are. If an author is stating word for word in text some way they support something a "coded" message representing something else doesn't matter, sometimes he just needs plot he's not trying to say anything about anything political because he already said what he wanted to say in a different book OPENLY!
Ok I honestly don't remember that scene, since it's been so long that I've read a Riordan book, so I'll have to look into it.
There were just so many red flags in the video, and imma just say that I do not condone the harassment of anyone. I don't post on tt which is why I decided to rant about it here.
But my biggest issue in the video is that someone took 3 lines of text from a book, slapped some highly questionable "proof" to it, and decided to call it "Media Analysis"
Long story short, she starts the video as a welcome to her series in media analysis and begins by explaining that the US' views on immigration have "always been arbitrary and discriminatory." Rick Riordan, a white man from Texas, has internalized this so obviously he's already biased on his views of immigration.
She shows a few snippets of the book, among them being this screenshot
Now, he probably used this analogy to help the reader understand the relationship, though it mightve been a poor choice of words on his part. HOWEVER, remember that this is a story about gods and primordial forces. You cannot compare country borders to Life and Death. Once you die, you're supposed to stay dead, such is the nature of mortals. But to OP, this alludes to the very real social problem going on in the US.
Now, from these excerpts she claims Rick Riordan is using ICE propaganda in children's books. Riordan's writing is not perfect at all, I know that. Because he is white, his portrayal of certain characters, like Piper and Samirah, are definitely questionable.
What pisses me off the most, is that she refused to do any research on Riordan, essentially boiling down his entire moral views into "He loves ICE 😔" If she had, she would have known his Twitter is where he gives other writers (sometimes POC) a voice. He stands by his morals, and is genuinely a good person trying to be a white ally. His site is a good place to know where he stands morally. Instead she just assumed shit and is now being praised for it.
So no, you're not gonna do that kinda shit with Rick Riordan. He's not perfect but he is not that kind of man.
Also: she deleted my comment where I tell people to do their research 🤷🏽♀️
TLDR Someone was claiming Son of Neptune is ICE propanaganda. OPs "proof" was highly questionable and unresearched

1~ (Rant at 5:00 cuz no sleep just frustration) Hypocrisy: those US Americans who go on about how they just care about "poc" of Greece when they change our myths & yet: 1. not only refuse to cast us, but also Greeks w' another heritage, they just cast themselves, both those they call white & poc & so they replace All Greeks. (And modern versions ie pjo are also set it in US as if the myths belong to them, imperialistic much?) 2. They dont make ancient Greek historical fiction, where gods exist
in faith, to include or even center any minority of that time.
3. Or make ancient Greek fantasy (> as in genre) where gods walk visibly among us either, again including ethnic minorities.
4. Or the modern Greek myth fantasy equivalent set here (what pjo Should have been) which could center our minorities as well! Y'know the ones who live here rn, who'd love to see AND play themselves & their lives rn, AND we wouldnt be limited as to who it historically could've been. Greeks w' Chinese or Philippinese heritage frex deserve to see themselves too (also those w' Romanian or other EU heritage that US ppl flat out ignore) but crickets for any of them I guess. None of that happens (or I missed one (1) instance wow) as it would require US ppl to acknowledge modern Greece & Greeks exist & we keep evolving our culture, & stop using our myths only as props or cosplay to dress themselves & their country.
The insidious thing is them painting this as "white people vs poc in Greece & Americans swoop in valiantly to fix things for poc sake" , no honey, its All Greeks -North Mediterranean majority, Greeks w' another heritage, Greek Americans & all Greek diaspora- united against All US Americans (minus our allies) who have the biggest power reach & budgets & so pillage our culture for their own gain & shut us up when we speak up against this.
[END OF ASK]
___________________________________________________________
Oh, wow, magnificent rant! 5:00 is indeed a magic hour :P I agree 100% with this. At this point the US movie industry and pop culture is so obsessed with saviorism (NOT cultural representation) that they are interested in a culture only when “poc“ or “oppressed“ (according to THEIR own standards) exist there. The truth is they never represented accuratelly not even the “white“ cultures. The recent fantasy book A Deadly Education had French from Google translate and no more mention of French
It’s so funny when they realise that “poc“ did bad things en masse, too, or when they learn “white” people have been subjected to slavery and oppression, as well. Aneurisms happen xD
edit: so many “white“ and “poc“ people in the US claim that race categorization is the tool of the oppressor and yet they continue mentioning it in modern articles and their issues. We should try to move... away from this system, you know?
(since I am talking to a Greek I feel uncomfortable even using those racial terms)

Ally's Thoughts on Percy Jackson Part 2
Now there is a lot of stuff in the book that was left out, some stuff added and things changed that the fandom wasn't sure should be included so we have to ask, why did they do these things? This question brings us to today's topic:
Adaptation and Budget Now I've seen more than one book reader say 'We wanted an -book accurate- adaptation, why are they changing things? Rick has sold out/lost the plot etc. Unlike a lot of adaptations, Rick was on board for this and the changes made are ones he wanted to make, like the stuff with Medusa; actually, he seems to be doing this thing where he is making the gods more sympathetic? I kind of like that!
But it's not like the book!
Okay, but the book is 19 years old now, as if you haven't read fanfic you wrote in 2005 and thought oh geez, I could have done that a different way. Do these changes affect the overall story? I don't think so, it's still going the same place.
To add onto this, I saw people say that they didn't think Gabe was portrayed bad enough (If you haven't read the book, Gabe was physically abusive to Sally) and yeah I can see why they cut that, this is a Disney show after all but you know there is more than one type of abuse and I think that was portrayed well. Also just because we didn't see it, doesn't mean i wasn't happening. It's about picking your battles.
But they cut out my favourite scene! Everything looks cheap!
Budgets kids, budgets! And I know what you're thinking, Disney is a billion-dollar company, surely they could have given them more money to film everything. You'd think that but you also need to remember that Percy Jackson is considered a freshman show, it doesn't have that legacy cred that Marvel has to fall back on and the two movies that had been made based on the franchise previously were hated by the fandom and considered flops.
The first book? It's pretty much a road trip book with some interesting things along the way and they highlighted the interesting things! Mount Olympus and the Underworld look great! Have you ever seen the Underworld in Once Upon A Time? It's the exact same setting as the town but with a red filter.
Also I'm Australian, we don't do summer camp here but the camp looked pretty impressive to me? It had a nice vibe and they were actually doing activities and the cabins are nice. My favourite part was Percy trying to shoot arrows, lolz.
Random shout out to the camper in the wheelchair, I don't know who she is but I love her 🥰
In short, yes they changed things, but are those changes bad? No, I don't think so. They knew they only had a short time to tell the story and I think it was a good retelling. There is another argument I've seen that make people question the show, but we'll talk about that another time (it's a doozy)

Holybshit is your url Olympians ally or Olympian Sally. I been wondering who Sally is and it just occurred to me im reading it wrong
skwksiwksiwkaksk ok ok so we’ve been over this in some post that i can’t find to link here but it’s actually meant to be ambiguous so don’t worry about it lmao
But like basically, this used to be a percy jackson blog and Sally is the world’s best most badass mom who i love dearly (any similarities to how i feel about Soichiro should not be pointed out, yes I have daddy and mommy issues both shhh lmao)
But anyway, idk how familiar you are with pjo but the kids are demigods aka they have one mortal and one godly parent, so this url was like a play on how much better it would be if Sally was an olympian and also because the bitch deserves it ksiaksiakoaks but i didn’t want it to be too tied to Sally’s character specifically so i worded it in a way that could also be read as olympian’s ally, since i am a huge greek mythology nerd since way before my pjo days
It didn’t really occur to me to change it when i started posting death note because i didn’t expect to basically turn into a death note blog lmao and once that happened i was already far too attached to olympiansally to change it but long ass rant aside lmao to answer your actual question, it is technically Olympian Sally but it’s supposed to read as both :)
Also thank you for the ask that i used as an excuse to explain wtf is up with my url since it doesn’t make any fucking sense now that i’m this deeply in the death note fandom revival lmao i owe you one anon thanks 🥰
#so this is what’s up with my url babes <3#honestly yes i do think of changing it but like i look at olympiansally and it’s me :)#idk idk i don’t deal well with change lmao#but anyway yeah this is smt that might happen#if i can settle on smt because i also don’t deal well woth making choices LMAO#but like we’ll see we’ll see jswiksiwks#i know i started this whole questioning vibe with my url when i asked how you guys read it but i have fun with it everytime lmao#also thanks for the ask anon <3#ask tag#or smt lmao

Percy Jackson & The Avengers: Convergence - the secret it out
I'm not dead! I had a mental breakdown, but I'm not dead! I am not abandoning this story, I promise. Didn't you guys see the part of my A/N where I said that I would never abandon this story, just take a tiny hiatus. And I'm proving that now by uploading this.
Anyway, this chapter is pretty long, so I hope this makes up for not uploading for months. I'm in the middle of doing a bio final, which is my second to last one! I'm so excited to be done with this school year. I've literally been calling my school Hell.
Also, I'm adding disclaimers to each chapter cuz I forgot to do that, so yeah act like you're smart enough to know that I don't own Marvel or PJO. Please stay safe and happy pride month🏳️🌈!
- your author
PS if you didn't know, I'm pan so...not just an ally or something.
Ω ♆ Ω
The demigods were silent the entire trip back. The group hadn't wanted to explain why the Avengers were there, so they'd left before the authorities had shown up. The quinjet had survived the storm with the ability to still fly, so they took that back to the tower. Despite the multitude of people with ADHD on the plane, nobody had spoken a word. However, the Seven seemed to be silently communicating to Percy their confusion and anger. As far as they knew, they did not have permission to tell the truth of the gods yet! They trusted Percy, but he had been through a lot recently, and maybe his judgement was a little off.
But they couldn't risk slipping anything to the Avengers, so they settled for just glaring at the son of Poseidon. The boy in question, however, just sat there staring at his lap, where he was playing with Riptide.
He was trying to figure out the best way to break it to the Avengers that their entire world was basically a lie. It was a lot to take in. He could attest to that. He was half-convinced that he was hallucinating when he first got the explanation.
Tony was finding the silence particularly difficult to withstand. First, Percy tells them that he's finally going to tell them the full truth, and then he just walks away and gets on the quinjet without following up on that comment! Anticlimactic much?
"Alright, that's it! Somebody say something!" he yelled. "I can't take this anymore!"
Percy responded without looking up, "Wait until we're at the tower. Then, I'll tell you everything. It's time you guys know." He whispered the next part under his breath, "You're going to need it where we're going."
Unfortunately for Steve, he could still hear that last comment. "That's reassuring," he said.
"Sorry," Percy muttered.
He didn't have time to worry about the Avengers' feelings. He had already figured out how he would tell them the truth. The best way was to be completely open and make sure there weren't any chances for fighting to break out.
Right now, he was worrying about Annabeth. Every second they wasted was one more second the monsters had to hurt her. It was taking everything within him to not make Piper's water bottle explode.
Ω ♆ Ω
Percy was the first one out of the jet when they landed on Avengers Tower. He ran all the way to his room, where he grabbed as many godly artifacts that he could find. He had a feeling that the mortals would want some proof before they started believing anything. He grabbed a couple of drachmas, some ambrosia and nectar, a picture of Coach Hedge, Mellie, and little Chuck, and his trident (yes, he has a trident now). The trident folded into itself until it was the size of a water bottle. If he wanted to use it, he had to say it's name, ακουαρέλα (waterbringer). The greek lettering of its name on the side glows, and it shoots open. It was a gift from his father as an early eighteenth birthday present.
Godly parents are weird that way; giving their kids weapons as presents. But spend enough time in this world and you get used to it.
He rushed back to the living room, where JARVIS had told him everyone was gathered (a tiny voice in his head reminded him that it wasn't everyone. Not yet). They seemed to have resorted back into their first day together: opposite sides of the coffee table, mistrustful glances sent across, and a general awkward aura surrounding the place. If Percy wasn't in such a rush to save Annabeth, he would've laughed at the sight.
Tony was the first to notice him, "Oh, you're here finally! Great! Now can you tell us what the hell is going on?"
Again, a strange sense of déjà vu washed over Percy, but he ignored it.
"Yes. It's important you know the truth before we leave," Percy answered.
He turned to his friends and spoke again. "And before you try protesting, my dad gave me permission."
Jason's open mouth snapped shut.
He dumped his artifacts on the table, motioning for his friends to do the same with anything they had on them. It wasn't a lot; just a couple of drachmas and their weapons. Leo did take off his entire toolbelt, though.
"What's this stuff? Is this supposed to answer all our questions?" Natasha said.
"No, this is just proof. I'll be explaining it all to you." He paused, unsure of how to start.
"Oh for the gods' sake, Percy, just start with the simplest answer!" Piper exclaimed, jumping up, "We're demigods, sons and daughters of the gods."
A beat of silence passed.
Steve broke it, "I didn't know Thor had any children..."
Jason groaned, "How did I know you would say that? Honestly, open your minds a little bit. We're Greek and Roman demigods. Thor isn't even a real god! He's just an alien with superpowers!"
Percy stared, amused, at his cousin. Clearly the son of the lightning god was not happy with Thor running around and calling himself a god (especially when Magnus was proof that he wasn't).
Piper patted him on the back sympathetically.
"I'm sorry, are you saying that there are more gods?" Tony asked, eyes wide in shock.
"Yes," Percy answered simply.
"Oh. Ok. That's fine, I guess. Nothing unbelievable about that," Tony commented sarcastically.
Percy sighed, preparing himself, "I am the son of Poseidon. Annabeth is the daughter of Athena. Piper is the daughter of Aphrodite, and Jason is the son of Jupiter. Hazel is the daughter of Pluto, and Frank is the son of Mars. And Leo is the son of Hephaestus. We aren't lying. We wish we were, but we're not. This is the truth."
Clint said, "I want to see this proof you were talking about."
Percy nodded, reaching down and grabbing a drachma.
"This is a drachma. How do you think we have so many of these? They are the godly currency," he said, tossing the coin over to Clint.
"Okay, I'll admit that it's odd for you to own so many of those things, but I need some proof of magic," Tony said.
Percy gritted his teeth, wondering if it was possible to kill Tony with Riptide. The man had already seen Percy turn a pen into a sword, but of course he had to see something else. There was no way to convince him that magic was real, he would just try and find some scientific answer to anything he showed him. It was an impossible task.
"Fine," he ground out.
Percy grabbed the folded version of his trident and made a show of moving it around so Tony could see that there were no tricks. Then he said the "magic words" and it popped open into a trident. It was still a little odd for Percy to hold it. He wasn't used to the weighting of it yet. Of course, he knew how to use it, but it still seemed weird. It didn't help that the weapon only gave Leo more reason to call him Aquaman, too.
"Is this enough proof for you?" Percy asked.
Tony learned forward in interest, "What did you do to get it to fold into that tight of a space? It must be the same tech as the pen, but I'm still not sure how it gets activated by those words..."
"It's magic, Mr. Stark," Hazel informed him.
"No such thing," Tony muttered offhandedly.
Hazel rolled her eyes, giving up. He would be proven very wrong soon enough. You can't spend much time in their world without starting to believe it.
"So that's how you guys have all your abilities? You are half god?" Bruce asked.
He was always more open to the scientifically-unproven than Tony. He was living proof of what could happen. Some might say the Hulk is magic.
"Yes. We are constantly hunted by monsters who can smell the scent we put off. They wanted to take revenge on Olympus, but it just grew to enjoyment from there. There aren't many safe havens in this world for us. That's why we don't tend to live that long. I am the oldest living Greek demigod alive," Percy said, acting like it was everyday you basically stated that you should be dead.
"That's awful! Why don't your parents do anything about it?!" Steve exclaimed.
"They are forbidden. Plus, godly parents suck. Most don't give a crap about their kids," Piper answered. "We're just the result of their mistakes."
"Well, they should. It's not right to leave kids to die," Bruce said.
Thunder rumbled in the distance; a warning from Drama King himself.
Percy glared up at the sky, "Oh, don't act like they're lying! You know it's wrong! At least have the guts to admit it, Uncle Z!"
The Avengers paled at the thought that the gods were watching them. It was a truly terrifying thought, to learn that you aren't in control of your fate. And the fact that Percy was yelling and accusing the king of the gods was not helping one bit.
The Seven had gotten slightly more used to Percy's reckless ways, but it was still worrying whenever he decided to rebel and yell at the most powerful beings in the universe when they were in the same room.
There wasn't an answer to Percy's rant, but there was a significantly less amount of sulfur in the air, so they took it as a sign that Zeus was letting it slide.
"But why are you telling us this now?" Natasha asked, always the observant spy.
She had remained silent thus far because she wanted to learn more about these mysterious "gods" before she acted. By how serious Valdez was acting, though, she was leaning towards it being the truth (or, at least, what the kids thought was the truth). She would have to report this to Fury as soon as possible.
Percy turned towards her, "Because my dad told me where Annabeth is being held. It's a dangerous place, and you need to be prepared if you're going to come with us. I won't force you to come, though. I would understand if you said no after you hear what it's like."
The Sea of Monsters was not a place for the weak. It would take a lot of willpower to get them all through. He had to make sure that the mortals were completely sure they wanted to come before they took off.
"Where are we going?" Steve asked.
"The Sea of Monsters," Percy answered in a grave voice.
"That's a reassuring name," Tony commented, "This'll be a blast."
"You do not need to come, Tony! None of you should want to after you hear what it's like," Percy said.
Tony stood up in anger, "You know what, kid? I don't need you yelling at me! I am a hero, and just because you tell us you are part god doesn't give you the right to act all high-and-mighty! We can handle it! We're the Avengers!"
Percy glared at the billionaire, "Trust me, you can't. I am trying to get across how dangerous this quest will be. The last time I was there, I almost died many times. It is NOT a good place to be."
"Where is that, exactly? Where are we going?" Clint asked.
The only son of Poseidon sighed, "The Bermuda Triangle."
Tony seemed to be shocked out of his angry mindset, "Wait, that myth's real?"
Leo spoke up, "Let's just assume that all things are real. It's easier that way."
"Is there anything else we should know before we get ready?" Steve asked, deciding that it was best to just cut off that conversation at the head.
"Just one more thing. We can fill in the rest on the way," Percy said, "You need to know that the gang we are fighting is not a normal bad guy. They are mortals Hades-bent on exposing the gods to the rest of the world. Somehow, they partnered with monsters. Annabeth theorized that it was because it would be easier to find demigods if the mortals were already searching for them. Basically, the monsters are using the gang for their own agenda and have the mortals convinced that they are their partners."
"Bad guys double-crossing each other. That, I can understand," Steve said with a relieved smile.
Ω ♆ Ω
The team had dispersed to go get ready, which meant packing a couple things and suiting up for the demigods. Well, they didn't know they had anything to suit-up in, but they were about to.
"Oh, guys! I have some good news!" Piper exclaimed. "The Aphrodite cabin finished our suits!"
Leo's head snapped up. "How do they look? Were my designs okay?"
Piper nodded, "Yep. And we don't even have to wear masks or anything because the Mist will distort our faces for any cameras. The Hecate cabin assured me."
Now Leo was bouncing up and down in excitement. "Can we see them? Can we? I wanna see them!"
Hazel raised an eyebrow at her friend, still never completely used to his antics. Leo Valdez was one of a kind, that's for sure (even if he was physically identical to her old boyfriend).
"Of course. We need to use them for the quest, don't we?" Piper smiled.
"Yay!" Leo exclaimed.
Piper let out a laugh, "Follow me, guys. They're in my room."
Sure enough, when they walked into Piper's room, there was a clothes rack with seven suits on it. Even from a distance, they looked amazing.
When Percy went and picked his suit up, he was in shock. It had a celestial bronze chest and shoulder plate, while the rest was a wetsuit-like material. The shoes were connected to the suit, and they seemed to be designed after water shoes. There were fingerless gloves with it, too. The gloves had air pockets, but Percy wasn't exactly sure what for.
"The gloves create water for you to use at any time." Leo answered his silent question.
"Oh. Awesome!" he said.
Percy didn't really get it, but science and magic weren't really his expertise. As long as they worked, he was okay with not knowing how.
All of the boys' suits seemed to be designed the same, minus the water-gloves. The only difference was the color of the pants. Percy's were sea green (not unlike his eyes), Jason's was electric blue, Frank's was blood red, and Leo's was bright orange.
"These are amazing!" Jason told Piper and Leo.
Piper thanked him and Leo just did an invisible hair flip in response.
The girls' suits were similar to the boys', but also completely different. There was a celestial bronze breastplate and celestial bronze plating going all the way down their sides and to their ankles. There are grey knee and elbow pads, as well. They also had fingerless gloves, but they did not go up to their wrists like the boys' suits did. Half of the glove is their suit's main color, as well as some of their arm and leg material. Piper's coloring was pink, Hazel's was purple, and Annabeth's was red. Every suit had a black Avengers symbol on their shoulders, which must have been a last-minute add-on because for a while the Seven were adamant on not becoming part of the Avengers (they still were, but it was hard to fight it when they were literally about to go into battle together).
Looking at Annabeth's suit made Percy miss her even more, but he didn't let it show. He had to be strong for his friends and teammates. He was the only one who had been through the Sea of Monsters before, so he had to guide them through.
It was going to be a tough task, that's for sure.
Ω ♆ Ω
The Seven separated to change, and once that was done, they met in the corridor of their rooms. Jason had to admit, they looked BADASS. It was clear that they were all a team, but every suit had its own individuality.
"We look awesome!" Leo exclaimed, jumping up and high-fiving Piper.
Percy strapped his sword to the clip on his waist next to his trident. "Yeah. You really did a great job, guys. Thanks. But we have to focus now. We're the only ones that are even partially prepared for what we're about to walk into, so we need to be at 100%. The Avengers may think they know what's coming, but they are clueless."
The Seven steeled their expressions, their teammate's seriousness washing over them like a wave. This was an important mission, not just for them, but for the Avengers, too. They may be rescuing their friend, but they were also stopping terrorists. This was big.
"Your confidence in us is truly heartwarming, Hercules." Tony's voice popped their bubble.
The Seven turned to see that the Avengers were all standing in the hall, suited up and ready (minus Bruce, of course).
"Hercules?" Percy asked, dawning a disgusted expression.
Tony stepped up. "Yeah. You said your greek demigods, and he's the first one that popped up. Plus, you got that whole hero-complex thing going."
Percy scowled, "Hercules is a dick."
"Agreed," Piper said, mirroring his expression.
"I really want to ask, but we've gotta get going," Bruce said, "We need to get there fast."
"Yeah. Where exactly are we going, again?" Tony asked.
"First, Florida. Then, The Bermuda Triangle." Percy answered.
"Why can't we just fly straight to the place?" Natasha asked, crossing her arms.
Percy sighed and then ran a hand through his hair, messing it up even more. "Because we'd just die faster. The only way to even have a chance of making it in and out is to go in by boat. Flying to Florida is the quickest way to get as close as possible. From there, we'll go by boat."
Natasha nodded, accepting the answer. However, she was still nervous about all of the "gods" stuff. Sure, they had met Thor, but he was just a glorified alien. What she had seen in Las Vegas was not like Thor and Loki. That was...a lot.
The group remained silent, unsure of what to say or do next, for another minute. Then, finally, Leo broke the silence. "What are we waiting for?! Let's get going, gang! We've got a world to save! I'm not getting any younger!"
He gave them his signature maniacal grin before leading the way down the hallway. Serious pep talks weren't his thing. He much preferred the sarcastic, self-deprecating kind to anything else.
They went up to the roof, where a repaired quinjet was waiting for them. Percy and Hazel still looked a little queasy about the flying, but chose not to voice it and instead clutched onto their seatbelts for dear life.
Once everyone was situated, Natasha called from the cockpit, "Seatbelts on, kids! We're taking off."
Clint grinned, "Death and doom, here we come."

2020, PJO, and AtLA
putting these rambling thoughts here mostly to vent them out. just some rambling self-reflections and ranting relating to fandom. <3
I think the reason I can feel myself gravitating towards PJO and AtLA as my “fandoms of focus” is because they have similar themes that resonate with me. Both stories are about kids being let down by adults/people in power. Both are about kids rising to that challenge, about relying on each other and fighting or fighting back.
I am 23. I am not a kid anymore (even though I’m definitely still one on the inside in a lot of ways). The first election I voted in was the 2016 presidential election. If I’m being honest, I feel disillusioned and abandoned by the people in power in my own country. 2020 has only driven that nail further in, again and again and again, relentless and unforgiving. And while I am not a naturally rebellious person, the part of me that doesn’t want to buckle under the weight of it all wants to fight back. In real life, I am doing that in the ways that are reasonable and available to me. The rest of me, I think, feels drawn to the stories that reflect how I feel in the moment. And these days, AtLA and PJO seem to resonate in a different way.
And sure, now that I am an adult that works with kids and teens, maybe a part of me connects a lot more to Chiron facing down Kronos during the Battle for Manhattan than I did when I was in elementary school. Or maybe I pay more attention to Hakoda helping his kids strategize against the Fire Nation than I did when I first watched it as a little kid. But I still relate to the kid characters too, and maybe I miss the “take on the world” fire that adulthood tries to drain out of you in a hurry.
I am 23. I’m adult. But also... I dunno. I’m only 23. And I feel like, as an adult, I’ve just inherited a world that’s on fire and been told I have to make the best of it. And that’s bullshit.
AtLA reminds me that sometimes, you have to stand your ground and demand better. Better of the people who disappoint you and better of your nation (Zuko). It reminds me that the weight of the world is not meant to be carried alone and is better shouldered with friends and allies (Aang). It reminds me that it’s okay if personal tragedy shapes your world (Katara), and that when you find yourself surrounded by people skilled in ways you are not that does not mean you worth less (Sokka). It reminds me that when people underestimate you, you can prove them wrong (Toph). AtLA reminds me that sometimes you have to fight for a better world but that world is worth fighting for.
PJO reminds me of things too. It reminds me that battles are not won on their own or by any singular person. It reminds me that strength comes from friends and family. That hope is best stored in the hearth. That everyone has skill sets they bring to the table, and it is in the application of those skills that change is brought. PJO is a story, in part, about kids that feel abandoned and forgotten and outcast; some of whom let that turn them to the wrong side, but others who found strength in the people around them. It reminds me that I can do that too.
It’s almost one in the morning, and I don’t really know what I’m saying here. It’s mostly aimless musings about why I’m feeling called to certain media these days. But I am grateful for it, for the ways these two things connect to me. For the ways they help me process and express feelings during a very difficult year--for me personally, and for everyone. One step at a time, yeah?

4.5/5
The Blood of Olympus is the last book in Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series. The story is told from the point-of-view of Leo, Piper, Jason, Reyna, and Nico. This is the first time that the reader is getting more in-depth information about Reyna, and really getting a look into Nico as more that what he shows to his companions. The time has finally come for the demigods to battle Gaea, that is if they don’t manage to wipe each other out first.
The story begins with Piper, Annabeth, and Jason going on an information-collecting mission at the palace of Odysseus in Ithaca. Evil spirit have gathered there to support the reawakening of Gaea. They reveal that Delphi no longer belongs to Apollo, and that the journey to Athena will be full of monsters and danger. Not that this is a new concept to the crew of the Argo II. Just as there is fighting amongst the demigods, the gods themselves have been experiencing turmoil within the ranks. Jupiter is angry with Apollo for revealing the Prophecy of the Seven when he did, and Jupiter is angry with Hera for interpreting the prophecy and manipulating those involved.
While the crew of the Argo II journey to Athens, a second team is working to bring the Athena Parthenos statue to Camp Half-Blood to prevent a battle between the demigod camps. Nico has been shadow-traveling himself, the statue, Reyna, and Coach Hedge in bursts of varying distances. The travel has been hard on Nico, and further travel could cause him to cease to exist. Regardless of the dangers, Nico pushes on to save the camp that served as the last home that he and Bianca shared. Back in Long Island, Octavian has been recruiting Romans that are loyal to his cause, as well as allying with various monsters. On August 1, the same day Gaea plans to awaken, Octavian intends to wipe out Camp Half-Blood.
During their mission to defeat Gaea and prevent a war between the camps, the seven heroes & co encounter more gods and monsters from traditional mythology, including Nike, Kymopoleia, Orion, and Pegasus. They also re-visit some familiar faces from previous books, such as the Hunter of Artemia and Thalia, the Amazons, various giants, and of course the twelve Olympians we all know and tolerate. Unfortunately, some familiar faces that received little to no page time were Grover, Tyson, Ella, and Chiron. It was a little disappointing to have some favorites simply name dropped and not highlighted.
Overall, The Blood of Olympus contained witty humor, drama, sadness, and hope for the future. I was glad to get to read from Leo’s POV in this final book, as well as learn more about Reyna’s background. The highlight was definitely Nico’s chapters during and after the battle at camp. I will feel cheated if Riordan doesn’t give Nico and (SPOILERS) Will at least one novel if not a series. The storytelling done in The Blood of Olympus was Riordan’s best in the series as far as balancing the seven main heroes. I felt like everyone’s stories were satisfyingly wrapped up, but also left open for expansion should the opportunity arise. If I have not made it clear so far with the total ten reviews that I’ve done to cover PJO and HOO, I highly recommend this series. It is cute and fun and enjoyable for even the adult reader. In terms of writing style, the PJO series is a bit more remedial than HOO, but PJO should be read first in order to truly appreciate the HOO series.
Here are some fun chapter openers from The Blood of Olympus: • “The gold wings were overkill.” • “Piper didn’t want to get yelled at by a three-legged table.” • “When she recounted her dream for Percy, the ship’s toilets exploded.” • “Jason rose from his death bed so he could drown with the rest of the crew.” • “Given a choice between death and the Buford Zippy Mart, Nico would’ve had a tough time deciding.”
****SPOILERS BELOW****
Ok, so I needed somewhere where I could rant about the ending really quick. First of all, if you need a good laugh please read the page where Nico is telling Percy about the crush he used to have on him. Percy digesting Nico’s sexuality is as Percy as it gets.
Now the real rant may begin. Don’t get me wrong, I love that my baby Leo was the one to ultimately defeat Gaea. That boy deserves every happiness and victory in the world. He should be appreciated much more than he was in the series. This lack of appreciation however did not really bother Leo. Leo loves his friends. They have become the family that he no longer has, and says as much. This is why I am struggling with how the book ended. I’m glad Leo was able to get back to Calypso, but couldn’t he have done so and also let his friends know that he was alive? The Leo that we’ve read about for the past four novels would not leave his friends guessing like that. He wouldn’t want them to live with the uncertainty, or worse, to be burdened by the grief of his supposed death. The fact that Leo doesn’t let them know he’s alive is the most un-Leo thing to do, and is also pretty mean when you think about it. I don’t know. This part really bothered me. Thanks for reading my review and rant!
