BOOK 1: Allotment Stories edited by Daniel Justice and Jean O'Brien

First read of the year, although technically I started this book in December and didn't finish it until now. Allotment Stories is a collection of essays by indigenous authors and scholars primarily focused on colonial dispossession of tribes indigenous to North America as well as their strategies of resistance. Personally, I had a major blind spot as to what happened to indigenous tribes in the U.S. and how settlers and the government schemed to take away their collective ownership of land and eventually their land altogether. (U.S. education really does NOT like to talk about that all...) What I thought was powerful about this collection of essays was that it focuses on individual stories and how families were affected, not just reducing this narrative to statistics. One author in the collection reminds us that indigenous storytelling is a form of resistance and collective memory-making is decolonial. Additionally, all the narratives of resistance to colonialism were cool to read and think about how these might be applied today as we think about Land Back movements globally. (There's also an essay about Palestinian resistance under British colonial rule, which was super sick.)

This book was a fairly dense read and it took me a while because I really wanted to sit with each story and fully process everything that was said. Overall, though, I would recommend it for anyone who's looking to learn more about indigenous dispossession and history.

can y'all stop being delusional and claiming those fuckass god awful movies are in anyway actually good adaptations (or that the lotus casino scene in the movie was accurate to the books in any capacity?) just bc you don't like the edits and improvements rick is making to HIS own fucking story? it's a near 20 year old series. rick has had plenty of time to mull over certain choices he made and think abt potential edits he'd make in an adpatation.

reread the books, for crying out loud. makes me more than ever to want to make a percy jackson & the olympians recap video just to remind ppl of the events of the books, specifically the first, bc it's shocking how little y'all remember from a book series that you supposedly love and for a lot of you, maybe read thousands of times.

One of the quickest ways to get heart eyes out of Kaeya (or at the very least, hold his attention and get him in a good mood regardless of what it was prior to it) is to rant something to him. If the person shows exceptional knowledge in their subject, he would be absolutely end up hanging onto every word they say. He likes seeing the faces people make when they talk about things that especially interest them/they specialize in and the upside is he gets to learn something new. How can he ever say no to that?
