this magnet was made during my ‘oh fuck I have a show coming up and no small/cheaper shit to sell’ period, when I made 33 bottle magnets in about three days lol. it was madness. I keep meaning to do that again but ugh it takes so much energy

tip to anyone who wants to sell art at markets and craft shows: always have small $5-$20 items available. these can make the difference between a bad show and a decent one (or more hopefully a decent show and a good one). lots of people like to support artists but not everyone wants/can afford to buy like, a print, or a plate.

magnets and pins and patches, you guys. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten pins at a market. also I tend to remember the booth/artist later if I got something from them.

I’ve also had a few people at shows buy a magnet (and get my business card with it) and contact me later to buy a plate. sometimes it’s just hard to carry around a piece of art that might get damaged when you’re at a show!

If you ever wondered what the best living vertebrate is, it’s the alligator gar in my totally not biased 100% scientifically backed opinion. They are just a flawless creature. Nothing wrong with them. Good tooth to snoot ratio, they have a winning smile.

They and other monster fish absolutely should NOT be in the hands of most private keepers at all and I do NOT support morph breeding of them because of that, but pretty fishy cute :c

It’s time for the great Bone Recap of 2024!!

Rodents: Nutria, American Beaver, Rat, Grey Squirrel

Mustelids (and Mephitidae): River Otter, American Badger, Striped Skunk

- skunks were once considered mustelids, and are now their own classification of Mephitidae along with stink badgers :3

Feline: Bobcat

- The only feline I got this year, sooo fragile (bleached 👎) and oily but I still love him. Very cool difference in morphology between him and my other bobcat

Marsupials: Virginia Opossums

- the left grey one was only 4-5 months old, and the skull was in complete pieces. The other two were adults but the size difference is insane?!

I also have a fourth one degreasing that’s the same size as the middle one.

Canidae (and Vulpes): Arctic Fox, Red Fox, Coyotes

- don’t buy arctic foxes, they’re fur farm byproducts. I did not know this at the time I bought her. I feel the need to say this whenever I post her so I can make more people aware

- the coyote on the right is all the way from Florida! I named him Winston and I love the staining in his sutures

Cervidae: Mule deer

- the doe was the first full animal I processed, despite the entire leg that went missing due to scavengers. I had another young doe that scavengers stole this summer. It has been a bad year for the deer

Antlers: Mule deer, Whitetail deer, Maui deer

- whitetail antler to the far left, mule, mule, mule, and another mule and Maui deer in the case

And with that, the bone collecting recap has come to an end. I feel this has been a very successful year, and now I have to move them all!!
