Do you have any thoughts on what Meilin’s mother was like? She’s such a source of untapped potential in canon. What happened to her spirit animal? Does General Teng share stories about her with Meilin? Do she and Abeke bond over losing their mothers at such a young age? I feel like she’s one of the many many things the authors forgot about :(

Yes! I agree, we really missed out on learning about Meilin's mom. I haven't developed her too much yet, but I'll tell you what I do know.

I currently have her name as Qianyue (骞月), but that is subject to change. Her spirit animal was a yellow-throated marten named Sujia. She was only twenty years old when she died giving birth to Meilin.

Qianyue did not get the chance to become a Greencloak, as her betrothal to Teng was arranged quite soon after her Nectar Ceremony. She was no warrior, conforming to what Zhong expected of women in that period, but Meilin desperately wishes she knew her. Everything she knows about Qianyue came from General Teng and her maternal grandparents. They told her she was clever and artistic but solitary, spending long hours in the garden of their mansion with Sujia by her side, lost in her own thoughts. With the guidance of her Marked parents, Qianyue spent much time working on her bond, too, learning to channel Sujia's speed and agility. Had her circumstances been different, she could have made a fine Greencloak. Teng always expressed that he loved her deeply, and she him, and Meilin doesn't doubt that -- but she sometimes wonders if her mother felt unhappy in her life. Married so young, unable to choose her own path, and on her deathbed five years later. It's not a life Meilin would have wanted.

Sujia survived the initial loss of her human partner and lived in agony for several more years. She was allowed to roam the family mansion freely and wanted for nothing in terms of comfort, but she never found peace. She retreated into herself and, over time, started to act more like a common animal. Finally, when Meilin was six, she refused all food and fasted to death. Meilin's memories of her are hazy, but she remembers being very little and sitting with her as she gazed wistfully into the garden where Qianyue used to walk, stroking her fur, encouraging her to eat with offerings of fruit, asking her what her mother was like. Sujia, of course, couldn't reply. When she died, it devastated Meilin. Sujia was her closest connection to her mother, and it felt like Qianyue was dying all over again.

Meilin grieves for her mother in a strange way, given that she never knew her, and that she herself was the cause of her death. That's a fact that has always been difficult for her to reckon with, even if she knows it was not her fault.

The nature of Qianyue's death has shadowed Meilin her whole life. It has left her with a fear of pregnancy and childbirth, and is one of the reasons why she and Rollan decide to adopt in adulthood.

ozy/kallux, 1.3k, 6 years post-campaign for the prompt 'milestone kiss' + ozykallux for @tiefling-lesbian

They’d been fighting intermittently since dawn.

First the dryads, then the wyverns, then the unnamed horror that had crawled out of the swamp, forcing them off the path they’d been charting towards the forest’s heart, where Abraham and his companions had apparently found something “interesting”.

Ozy hoped it was interesting enough to warrant all the effort they’d spent getting this far — although knowing Abe (and knowing Selto) interesting was likely an understatement.

Ozy hoped, too, that they lived to see the damn thing.

“There’s more coming,” Kallux shouts, pointing further down the riverbank. Ozy follows the line of his hand; spots the sleek silhouettes of three more creatures headed their way, drawn by the clamour or the smell of fresh blood. The setting sun glints off their oily fur and casts a sheen over their compound eyes.

Ozy puts his sword neatly through the heart of the monster in front of him. It drops into the shallows with an unceremonious splash, and he steps over it with about as much grace, almost losing his footing on the uneven riverbed. He’d burned through all his magic reserves quickly, and then just about burned through everything again. They’d never be able to win a war against this particular wilderness.

“We have to run for it,” he rasps, already heading for the treeline. “We can’t be out here after dark.”

Kallux is at his side in a moment. He was still drenched from one of the creature’s valiant attempts to drown him, river water mingling with blood and black ichor to trickle in muddy rivulets down his face. “Running from overgrown weasels, not our finest moment.”

Something lunges at them from the side, one of the sinewy monsters that had circled around to flank them. Kallux hamstrings it. Ozy lops its head off.

“What would be our finest moment, by your estimate?” he asks, as they charge into the undergrowth.

Kallux barks a breathless laugh. “Ask me again when I have a second to think.”

It’s a mad dash through the forest, headed in the vague direction Abe had communicated to Kallux via Sending. The woods grow dimmer and dimmer around them, the last vestiges of sunlight sinking beneath a distant horizon, rendering everything suddenly strange and shadowed. More than once their progress is halted by the appearance of some beast or another. They leave a trail of bodies and bloodied grass in their wake.

The forest delivers them a brief reprieve in a large clearing, hemmed in on all sides by enormous, misshapen oaks. “We need a better vantage point,” Kallux pants, bent over with his hands on his knees. “Abe said there’d be a ruined bridge.”

Ozy struggles to free his sword from the tough hide of a six-legged alligator that had followed them into the glade, stumbling backwards when it finally slides loose. Kallux steadies him with a hand on his arm; snorts softly when Ozy turns into the contact, briefly dropping his head onto Kallux’s shoulder, catching his breath for half a heartbeat.

“Would it be foolish to suggest we climb a tree?” he murmurs into Kallux’s collar, wishing for nothing so much as a horizontal surface to lie down on. He hoped Abe and the others had a decent camp set up. (His hopes were piling up precariously at this point.)

Kallux rests one bloody hand on the back of his neck, pressing an idle kiss to his temple. “Honestly I was gonna say the same thing,” he says. And then: “You wanna go somewhere nice if we survive this?”

It startles a muffled laugh from Ozy. “You have interesting timing,” he says, winding his arms around Kallux’s waist, mindful of his bruised ribs. A horizontal surface to lie down on together would be preferable. “I’d like that very much. Somewhere new, maybe?”

A deafening howl splits the insect-buzz and leaf-rustle stillness before Kallux can reply. They both jolt upright. Stalking out from the treeline was the colossal shape of a corrupted centaur, hefting a double-bitted axe in both hands.

“A tree,” says Kallux.

Ozy sighs. “Right, yes, a tree. You go, I’ll keep it occupied.”

“Because you’re terrible at climbing trees.”

“Because I’m terrible at climbing trees,” Ozy concedes.

Kallux grins at him, placing one hand in the centre of his chest. The cool blue glow of his magic ripples across Ozy’s armour, sinking through the metal and into his skin. He feels the jolt of a Haste spell seize his limbs like liquid fire. The very last of Kallux’s magic.

“Yell if you’re in danger of dying,” Kallux tells him, gripping his chin to make sure he heard.

Ozy blinks down at him. Ears roaring with sudden magical adrenaline, fatigue suffocated beneath a heady surge of strength, he feels nonetheless pinned by the burning hand against his skin. He’s distantly aware of the centaur growling. For a moment, it doesn’t seem to matter. In the hazy penumbra of almost-darkness Kallux’s face is limned in silver. He looks exhausted. He looks beautiful. Ozy wants to keep looking at him for the rest of his life.

“I love you,” he blurts out.

Kallux’s expression dissolves into shock. Ozy clears his throat ruefully.

The centaur charges.

Afterwards, when they’ve stumbled their way to the ruined bridge and found the small camp behind an illusory boulder— after they’ve heard what Abraham and Kale and Lyn had found at the heart of the forest, and planned what to do about it in the morning— after they’ve eaten magical rations and laid their bedrolls down in an unoccupied corner of the cave (an impressive feat when the space was occupied by five full grown adventurers and all their gear)— Kallux turns to Ozy.

“Did you get hit in the head?” he asks.

“No,” Ozy tells the ceiling, fingers laced atop his freshly bandaged stomach. “Well. No more than usual.”

Silence for a long moment. He glances sideways.

Kallux’s expression was difficult to read in the dimness, though there was hardly any space between their bedrolls. Darkness or not, Ozy can see the tiny crease between his brows; feels worried, suddenly, that reaching out to smooth it away, as he’s done a hundred times in the last few years, would shatter something tentative and new.

“You have interesting timing,” Kallux echoes at last.

“Yes,” says Ozy. “Sorry.” He fidgets idly with the frayed edge of a bandage, gaze returning to the safety of the cave ceiling again. “I’ll choose a better moment next time.”

He’s still staring stoically at the uneven rockface when he hears the shift of leather beside him, and then Kallux is suddenly half on top of him, having rolled over in such a way as to be visually unavoidable no matter where Ozy is looking.

“Oh yeah?” he says, brows raised — and he’s half-smiling now, lips pulled up at the corner in that way Ozy loves (loves), that makes him want to map the crooked edges of it with his own mouth, or watch from the sidelines like something basking in the sun. “Well, can’t wait to see your interpretation of a better moment.”

Ozy adores him, truly. Saying it out loud shattered neither the world nor his heart.

He reaches for Kallux’s hand; brings it to his lips, kissing the backs of his scarred fingers, the inside of his wrist. “I don’t think you’ll have to wait long,” he murmurs, words pressed against the hot skin there.

The flash of answering heat in Kallux’s eyes is well worth the leap.

On the other side of the cave, Lyn clears her throat. “Who wants second watch?”

“Me,” says Kale, and gets abruptly to his feet.

Ok so for The Vampire, the blond one, pre being turned 4 sure (or growing pains)->

They have this HUGE admiration and idealized idea of themself and their partner from the past. EvenIN the past, they had this super twisted version of their partener in their eyes, not ignoring bad things but those things being clear from the beginning, but a part of why they wanted to be theirs. They were very naiive and throughouy their relationship right up to the turning still believed them to be perfect. They could watch their partener do bad things to ppl and come back and straight up tell them and only see them as good. Its just them!

And The Lover is def->

This is a representation of their need for the hunt, to have a prey. To have their prey(The vampire). They originally see The Vampire as this pure thing that they have the urge, they tried to surpress it, but they couldnt. They still took their life and turned them. And they take pride in it, and they realize how sick that is. They dont want to see them anymore but they will because they have to, it makes them feel powerful. This is their karma for it, they knew as soon as they saw The Vampire, and decided to interact with them itd end up damning them.

And then them together is->

The Vampire was a bit of a lonesome child and teen, they were always interested in the morbid (hence their love and admiration for the lover). The Lover played on this, with their vampirism(tho the vamp. Didnt knwo ab this yet) they always had all of these gross/disturbing imaging + actions around. And now, post turning, the Lover still comes around and plays with them. Almost teaches them how to be, like before. I made a drawing based off this lol. The drinking of the alligator blood is more of a metaphor for how the lover literally forced them to become this monster, to grow up tough and a survivor, to drink blood. Yet still loves the side of them that is how they were before all of it. The Vampire got what they wanted but it went wrong, it got too much, it killed them.

And then this i chose specifically because of their idealized version of their partener. They grew up in a not so good and complicated relationship with their family, they are trying to hold out hope that these are better days now that theyve escaped them with their new amazing and cool partener. Theyre unknowing being lulled with their charms. They have always struggled with perception issues, but after being turned it went for the worst. They completely cant remember anything but hazy-scary thihgs, and super clear good things (even tho one vastly outnumbers the other). They make up this story of how they actually were w their lover and how they fell in love, when really it was much creepier and bad. And once on the road as a bounty hunter, they meet new lovers and try to input their ideal lover from the past onto them. They spend eternity comign up with everything about their lover.

Okk, and so my fav things, that are mainly just surface level. For one, my oc has a super sick bat revolver and snake lasso. Their fvaourite is knives though, with anything. They looovveee knives. I like love them both sooo much like. Theyre so bad for eachother and evil but theyre epic and awesome too. The evilness and sickness of their relationship is part of the apeal. Also the vampirism in this is NOT out of desire or love. It is used as control. Thats the metaphor NOT love. Lets be clear!!! The Lover NEEDS the control over them. In their shared obsession they have both lost themselves.

A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate MOSAICS!!!!!!!!!!!!omggffggg i wanna learn how to make them so bad.. i love that everything ab it is so deliberate , from tessera color and material to its symbolism & storytelling while still being stochastic in nature . will the stones or glass cut like u wanted , will the pieces lay how u envisioned..ugh..suuch a powerful an awesome medium , and gorgeous to boot T__T

11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what YESS ^__^ ! ALWAYS !!! i can listen to anyything but it has to be something i know the lyrics to so i can sing along .. :3 . right now ive been listening to beyonce's 4 on repeat (schooling life, dance for you, i care), doechii's alligator bites never heal (catfish, slide, beverly hills), and then natasha, pierre, and the great comet of 1812 :jawdrop:

17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what noo i cant eat when i draw but i will try to keep drinks w me .. i usually forget they are there tho AHAHA like i like hot herbal teas (hibiscus w) but then i find that its gone cold by the time i remember </3

Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically this one was actually rly hard for me bc i feel like im inherently inspired by anything i enjoy but id probably have 2 say SPLATOON!!!!!!!!!!!!! splatoon drives me crazy in the best way and i love everyttthing about it but i cant for the life of me incorporate it into my art. i know there are things i Wish i could do with its different elements, but it feels so separate from my personal style that it becomes difficult to pull from . i lovee it though .. and i love seeing how it manifests in other peoples work

30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated wait no this one is also rly hardd.. if anything, im more surprised by pieces that do well when im not rly posting w the intention of it doing so LOL but i think .. underrated hmm. i think one of my personalll favorites is my bg3 wyll.. i just lovee the brushwork on that one , the slight color variations ,the blockiness of the strokes + the linework itself was just a lot of fun. i say underrated bc it got 35-50 likes on twitter and instagram btwn pieces with 2,000-9,000 so its funny silly 2 me LMAOO
