Wee facts about Princess Louisa Maria Teresa Stuart since it's her birthday today:
• She was born at St-Germain-en-Laye to James II and Mary of Modena on June 28th 1692.
• When she was born, she was nicknamed La Consolatrice by her father as she was born during a distressing time for her family, being usurped and exiled from the throne.
• She was brought up in France with her brother, James Francis Edward Stuart. Her tutor, Father Constable, was a Roman Catholic priest who taught her Latin, history and religion. The Countess of Middleton was Louisa's governess.
• Louisa was transferred to Passy with her brother when he was proclaimed king by Louis XIV and was looked after by the Countess of Middleton and Antonin Nompar de Caumont, 1st Duke of Lauzun and his wife.
• Louisa was a fan of dancing and the opera.
• She was also very popular at the French court. When she was thirteen, she went to a ball at the Château de Marly, and she ranked only after Louis XIV himself, Mary of Modena and James Francis Edward.
• She was considered a bride for both Charles, Duke of Berry who was actually Louis XIV's grandson and with King Charles XII of Sweden but neither match came to pass.
• She paid for many daughters of Jacobite supporters to have an education, in return for their support to her family. She made no difference between Catholic and Protestant girls, supporting both.
• Sadly, she succumbed to smallpox on April 28th and was buried with her father in Paris in the Church of the English Benedictines, being widely mourned. After the French Revolution, Louisa and her father were moved to the Val de Grace medical hospital. She was only nineteen.
• She had the nickname The Princess over the Water since her father and brother were both known as The King over the Water.
#all this i got from wikipedia#her death is honestly super sad she was so young#but let's not talk about that because it's her birthday so#and she was still fabulous#happy birthday louisa#louisa maria teresa stuart#stuartposting#house of stuart#jacobites#17th century

So, why Shostakovich?
That's what I wondered, watching Aziraphale in Maggie's record shop.
Shostakovich is a rather recent composer for Aziraphale to listen to - I mean, he regards Glenn Miller as modern. I would have expected him to get something that's a more obvious choice - maybe one of the composers Crowley mentions early in S1? That would have been a nice nod to that scene. Why Shostakovich? So I read up on the man, and then I understood.
Because Shostakovich was a Soviet-era composer, and came into conflict with the regime more than once.
In 1936, his career took a massive hit after a campaign against one of his works, because the music was viewed as "deliberately dissonant" - it didn't conform to some people's idea of of what Soviet music should be like. He did not strictly adher to their narrow ideals and felt the consequences. (And he was lucky. He had friends and family who were killed during the Great Terror, which started around that time.)
This forced him to try and adept and eventually his career recovered.
He was denounced again 12 years later, during a wider campaign against Western influences on Russian music. He had to apologize, many of his works were banned and he and his family lost privileges.
In 1960, Shostakovich made a controversial decision: He joined the Communist Party. It is unclear why he did this, whether it was fear, political pressure or indeed his own free choice - though reportedly he was in tears afterwards and told his wife about having been blackmailed.
So we have a composer whose work was repeatedly marked as non-conforming to the regime he lived under, not living up to some arbitrary, propagandistic standard, even after he tried to adapt his style. And we have an angel who never quite fit in with Heaven, whose approach to the world and his work were seen as silly at best, who was admonished for the way he used miracles and eventually declared a traitor.
We have a composer who, for one reason or another, ended up joining the party that had punished and humiliated him in the past. And we have an angel who ends up going back to Heaven.
I get why Shostakovich was an obvious choice, after all. What I can't get over is the implication that WE WERE TOLD AS EARLY AS EP 1 THAT AZIRAPHALE WOULD REJOIN HEAVEN!?? EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD MAKE HIM SUFFER AND MIGHT NOT BE AN ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY DECISION EITHER?? The audacity (I love it) to put that out there right from the start, for everyone to see who only cared to look, when none of us would be paying too much attention to it on the first watch.
#it's so obvious really#I mean I got all this from a ten minute scroll through Shostakovich's Wikipedia entry#it's right there#Good Omens#Aziraphale#Dmitri Shostakovich#Shostakovich#meta

Somehow that ongoing 1,500,000+ word The Beatles Paul McCartney x John Lennon fanfiction I read includes like the most absolute minuscule details of the Beatles lore, like tiny little things where I was like "that can't be real" but I looked it up and it was (IE a guy claiming to be Jesus Christ barging in on one of their recording sessions). But it does NOT include the apparently real group masturbation sessions
#Straight up learned so much abouyt The Beatles because like maybe 40% of that million plus word count was just like#a chronological recounting of Paul McCartneys actual life and like 30% of it is text from straight up actual real life interviews#placed into the fanfiction (except edited to confirm to the fanfic's Lore of Paul McCartney and John Lennon being life partners and#Lennon surviving his assassination and all of their love songs being about each other and Linda McCartney being Paul's#platonic bestfriend and surrogate Womb for their yaoi children)#Like I would 'fact check' out of curiosity and now I know way more about tge beatles than I ever wanted to#While the remaining 30% is the beautiful love story between Lennon and McCartney where they break up 30000 times and#also this fixation on Paul McCartney being repeatedly sexually assaulted throughout life including like a 12 chapter kidnapping arc#At one point they go to a museum and the fanfiction text has the first several sections of the wikipedia article for 'The Adoration of#the Mythic Lamb' pasted into it word for word.#The title is 'we can find our way somehow' and the author works that exact phrase into the text at least 30 times. I kept count#John and Paul would liek almost breakup and then when reuniting they'll be like 'but I know we can ALWAYS find our way somehow together'#also used 'kaleidoscope eyes' as a descriptor even more (think that counter got into the 40s) and constantly refers to erections as like#'it made his groin stir' 'his groin stirred' 'he felt a stirring in his groin'#You don't even understand. You don't understand. THe experience of reading all that. You don'tget it

qsmp characters as shapes
Tubbo - Octagon
don't know how to explain that one. it's easy to construct but not to common, got lots of uses, feels like movement, mechanics and big ideas
Roier - Equilateral Triangle
it's a pretty stable shape. you flip it and it still stands upright. but it's still flipped, you know? even if it looks the same
Cellbit - Square Antiprism
yea we're going 3D now. A polyhedron that makes you say huh. what's going on there. a shape that doesn't really know what it wants to be but definitely wants to be something else
Jaiden - Small Cubicuboctahedron
depending on how you look at it this polyhedron is lots of different things
Badboyhalo - 65537-gon
you might think this is a circle, but you'd be wrong. you can construct this polygon with simple tools like a compass. it's like they made that for q!bbh. maybe he even discovered it himself at some point in his past
Foolish - Antiparallelogram
it's pointy, it's confusing, a nice spin on an old classic, I feel like it really fits his energy
Cucurucho - Squround
described as the form of an ice-cream tub. it's a mix of comfort and nostalgia and a vague feeling of dread. what is that thing supposed to be. it's like the bastardised version of the most common and trusted shapes
#yes I read the Wikipedia articles about shapes as a hobby what about it#pleease send me more shapes if you've got good ones I need more shapes#qsmp#it talks!#all pictures from Wikipedia btw

so im looking at the historical accuracy of federal pardons & whether someone like arthur morgan—wanted in 2 states w a 5k bounty on him; had committed multiple crimes etc.—& the closest one i could find is billy wilson, an outlaw & associate of the infamous billy the kid. he ran w the kid's gang for some time & even escaped multiple attempts at capturing him, then went to texas & started a ranch... like he didnt have a criminal record...
but the important part of all of this is that billy wilson's capturer—pat garrett—was the one who made the effort to the american govt so they could pardon billy's crimes... & they did.
theres so many other ppl who were federally pardoned & their crimes were... literally going against the american govt itself. james brooks, a texas ranger convicted of manslaughter, was pardoned (after lobbying from his fellow rangers tho). al jennings, a train robber who was imprisoned in 1899, was pardoned (in 1904 but still...)
all that is to say: arthur morgan couldve possibly been federally pardoned had he lived. do w this information what you will.
#p.#rdr2#arthur morgan#red dead redemption 2#i got all of this info from wikipedia so idk how accurate they are & google is unhelpful abt federal pardons back in 1890s.#but the fact that in the game someone as vile & disgusting as emmet granger can be federally pardoned means that arthur can be too...

i would like to formally apologize to Mary, Queen of Scots for having thought since childhood that she was Bloody Mary, when Bloody Mary was in fact her cousin
#they're both famous for being Super Catholic and dubiously Queen of England ok what was I supposed to think#I consolidated a whole era of history for ease of learning#(I can see how child me got mixed up though because Elizabeth I overshadowed both of them)#I was just reading MQoS's wikipedia page and got to the end and was like. wait. what about all the people she killed#turns out she didn't kill ANY people (that you can prove)#x#history#(the error was in dropping me into the middle of the English royal line during the Wars of the Roses#and expecting me to be invested all the way to the Stuarts.#can any among us name the predecessor of Richard III without looking it up? don't answer that)#(some sick individual among us didn't jump straight from Henry V to the Princes in the Tower like a normal kid)

Yeah ..Todd in the Shadows (a strictly music reviewer) making an hour long video exposing James Somerton (a former video essayist) for misinformation and plagiarism DEFINITELY wasn't on my bingo card for 2023.
#todd in the shadows#james somerton#hbomberguy#youtube#tell me why i was scrolling youtube at 3 in the morning and that was the first recommended video on my homepage#and after watching it then and finishing it this morning#wow#as someone who actually watched some of james' videos#im disappointed#and a little freaked out#especially when todd dispelled all the nazis claims james made#the thing that got me was when jamee claimed that legend of korra was taken off the air for korrasami#even though it was because of the ratings drop#no thanks to nickelodeon#which is easy and basic information to find on wikipedia#but im probably reaching as someone wno actually watched korra as it aired#im like bro you can't just make claims like that#especially when there's info that dispels that from the creators themselves#cite your sources people

stop-that-fool's ICEMAV timeline for Your jeep. Your Teeth. The coffee that you bought me.
AKA where my icemav's story sticks to canon and where it diverges/changes-- all while trying to make it align with real military/historical events.
Also, thank you @sliderkerner for indulging me and saying that you wanted my timeline posted here!
DISCLAIMER! I am in no way an expert of the US Military. This whole 'timeline' should not be taken as fact or canon regarding TOP GUN. I am making this for my own understanding of my icemav story and to help myself and anyone reading keep track of the timeline. This is just for fun and mostly for me.
Quick note about the time off US Military members get. According to this website, people accumulate leave-- 2.5 days per month of work. I don't think that either Mav or Ice are eager to take time off. I can only see them wanting to take time off to visit Carole and Bradley (as Val Kilmer stated, I also believe that Ice does not have the ideal family). That's why a lot of their work seems back-to-back/never ending.
1986-
-The movie stays the same (Goose dies, intense amounts of sexual tension between Ice and Mav, "You can be my wingman anytime" etc., etc.)
-The FIRST change in canon is when Mav states that he's going to try teaching at TOP GUN. In TGM, Mav said he barely lasted one class. Within my story, Mav lasts until 1988.
Between '87 and '88-
-Ice comes to teach at TOP GUN (entirely for the purpose of his career/'resume' for working his way up for promotions etc., etc.)
-While Ice is there (for around 2 TOP GUN classes) that is when Ice and Mav start getting involved romantically.
-But Ice hates teaching. He leaves mid '88 and joins the Iran-Iraq War aboard USS Enterprise.
Late 1988-
-Mav completes one last TOP GUN class after Ice leaves and follows Ice to the USS Enterprise (a happy accident that they were stationed on the same ship). This then allows them to continue their 'involvement' and allow them to fly together again ("Bullshit, you can be mine" blah blah blah).
1990-
-The Gulf War. According to Fandom Wiki both Mav and Ice have the Kuwait Liberation Medal-- meaning they both fought in the Gulf War around this time. (Btw they are no longer on the USS Enterprise as she was no longer involved in the Gulf War past 1989 (I think))
-In my TOP GUN universe, Mav gets another 'kill' during the Gulf War (I have no idea if any naval aviators did this in 1990 (Mav didn't do this canonically) but it happens within the stop-that-fool fanfic universe). Merlin is also Mav's RIO throughout the the Gulf War.
1991-
-BUT Ice has the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) while Mav does not. Mav has the Southwest Asia Service Medal. So, for my story this time in between 1991-92 is when Mav pisses someone off and is moved squadrons/carriers to somewhere in Southwest Asia.
-Both of them, according to these medals, participated in Operation Desert Storm. (Mav also could have participated in Operation Desert Shield due to his Southwest Asia Service Medal.)
-Throughout 1991 they are able to see each other a couple times, but the fact that Mav keeps pissing people off makes it difficult. This is also because Navy deployments on average last between 6-7 months (according to a quick Google search) and for the sake of the story, their deployments and time off in between rarely overlap.
1992-
-This difficulty continues into 1992 where it all comes to a head on Dec. 31st 1992 (Ice's birthday! (Ice does not have a 'canon' birthday, but Dec. 31st is Val Kilmer's and I thought that bday also made sense for Ice)). Que the car scene in ch.4 and the aftermath the next morning.
-Throughout '92, Mav was in Iraq participating in the Iraqi no-fly zones. (I think. I find this UN mandate difficult to understand, especially whether or not the US Navy was involved or not.)
1993-
-Mav and Ice do not see each other in person at all in '93. But as said in ch.4 they-- "...talk about nothing on the phone. Ice never picks him up from the airport again."
-The US Navy also provided air cover for cargo planes that were bringing relief supplies during the Bosnian War. This is where Mav was placed in '93 (pissed off some captain or higher up or something).
-Ice and Mav don't see each other (in person) until '94.
The UNITED NATIONS MEDAL- In the TOP GUN fandom wiki page, both Ice and Mav are listed to have a United Nations Medal. What it does not state, and what I cannot find anywhere online, is what conflict they were a part specifically of for them to receive this medal. There are multiple options throughout the 1990's and 2000's that could have led to this award. BUT for the sake of my story, I will only be considering/applying conflicts that took place between 1994-98.
Between 1994 and '96-
-I think Ice received the UNPROFOR United Nations Medal for his service during the Yugoslav Wars. This is where he was between 1994-95. As I stated in ch.3 he was stationed somewhere in Europe after he and Mav 'break up' (I can't figure out what United Nations Medal Mav could have received-- it's difficult to figure out US Navy specific peacekeeping missions he could been involved in besides UNPROFOR.))
1997-
-It's around this year that Mav uses some of his accumulated vacation days to spend a longer period with Carole and Bradley. Ice is still stationed in Europe (workaholic).
1998-
-After Mav's time off, he's deployed again to Iraq.
As I mentioned in a previous post, not a lot of things happen in early to mid 1998 in regards to military conflicts, BUT Operation Desert Fox happens in December of 1998. I think the military would need to have people around before the operation before completing something of that scale. AKA that's why Mav is there in June.
-Then on an undisclosed date in early June, Mav crashes as stated in ch.1 (“You dodged some crazy bastards up there, then hit a bird. The plane crashed into the ground, and you ejected and landed on some rocks...").
-Mav is transferred to a hospital in California as he needs special surgery for his shattered knee cap.
-Ice has been in California for a couple days when Mav gets there because his paternal grandfather is dying (another happy accident that his grandfather is in the same hospital as Mav (god i love plot armour)). Ice had previously been permanently stationed somewhere in Europe (to get away from his family, Mav, and to work up to a promotion).
-Carole dies a couple days after Mav is released from the hospital. Bradley is now under Mav's legal guardianship. They move into military provided family housing on the Lemoore Naval Air Station with Mav teaching at the SFWSPAC (Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific) once his injuries heal.
-Ice then reveals that he has requested to be stationed in California with Mav (the request was approved, Ice is now near both his family AND Mav... he's so silly).
-On June 21st 1998, Mav, Ice and Bradley drive out to West California to the beach cottage Mav rented (courtesy of Viper) with the plans of celebrating Bradley's birthday on June 27th (finally someone with a canon bday thank u Bradley).
Anyway, that's all we got so far! I would just like to say again that I am in no way claiming that this is accurate or canon. I also can't guarantee that I understand all of the wars, conflicts, operations, and details of the US military that I stated previously. So if I got something wrong; any of the language I used, details of the wars and conflicts stated, I apologize! Very deeply. From the depths of my soul.
#this is proof that i am a productive member of society#I AM NOT AN EXPERT#this is just for fun#all my info is basically from Wikipedia plz do not trust me#i tried to hyperlink everything that i referenced.. which is mostly Wikipedia#sorry about that.. but i don't care THAT much to find 'reliable' sources#like this is a military propaganda movie after all.. therefore i'm not like... dying to make this as accurate as possible#who am i kidding here#this is literally for a fanfiction#do u think tom cruise would combust on the spot if he saw this... all this for a gay fanfiction....#again this is mostly for me to reference-- my scattered notes and floating thoughts in my brain were not working anymore#so i made this for myself and then i thought i would post it#because sharing is caring#i got the fanfic name right#finally#the military propaganda got to me. IT GOT ME.#icemav#icemav fanfic#top gun 1986#top gun#maverick#iceman#pete maverick mitchell#tom iceman kazansky#top gun fanfiction#thank u ily bye#ao3#stopthatfool writes

the only people that say that comic books arent hard to get into are the people that have been reading them since they were a kid. and the only people that say that comic books are too hard to get into so you shouldnt try are the people that have never bothered opening a comic book.
#as a bitch that got into them like 2 years ago. its fuckin hard#especially if you dont like not knowing things#however its not as hard as some people want u to believe#like one of the first books i read was batgirl 2000. fantastic entry book#first of all its amazing second of all you dont really need a lot of prior knowledge to understand it#but even then. it gets confusing.#since i didnt know a lot about other big events i didnt know what was going on in any crossovers#like ok um why is bruce wayne being convicted of murder rn.#like when i was getting into comics i had wikipedia open for like half the comics i read#i think the hardest part is finding a starting place#then continuing to expand from there. like there’s so much and it’s HARD#and sometimes saying ‘just use a reading guide for a character you find interesting’ um. does not work#my rose reading guide is my baby but it is NOT a good starting point for people that haven’t read comics#anyways i’m sorry this is not meant as a slight to anyone#i just love to give my two cents all the time

Hello!! I come bearing ask emojis! 😘🧡
🧸 - favourite place to nap
🐰 - what do you think says the most about a person
✨ - do you have any nicknames
💌 - do you talk to yourself
🧸 two years ago i took the best nap of my life while sitting in a hammock and reading the count of monte cristo in the sun. i miss that nap every day.
🐰 probably the way they treat others, especially when it doesn’t matter for their reputation or goals.
✨ not especially — my mom calls me by a longer version of my first name sometimes, but that’s really just to affectionately annoy me. my deadname has a nickname, but i don’t use it anymore.
💌 all the time. honestly it’s so odd when i meet somebody who doesn’t. sometimes i talk to people in fictional scenarios inside my head, and sometimes it really is just to myself. sometimes it’s out loud or my lips move and then people do get a little weirded out.
#asks#not f1#relatedly to the last point: i just found out that some people do not have a mental number line that’s different from the traditional one#apparently what i’ve got is called a “number form” and according to wikipedia it is a form of synesthesia#it made learning negative numbers on the number line pretty difficult growing up because my negative numbers are all on the right#now i’ve gotten better at ignoring it but i still see it if i’m counting or working with small sums#as it gets larger it gets more out of focus and logarithmic#thank you for this btw chloe!!

would y’all be interested in a mechanics super bracket of polls perhaps as early as next week?
it’d be a lot of 24 hr polls to determine the best magic mechanic. like initially 8 separate brackets running at the same time in the first week to seed the top 32 in a final bracket for the overall winner
so like a LOT of polls. I’d tag ‘em all but I also don’t wanna do all the work and flood blogs with polls unless people are interested in that
#also it's surprisingly difficult to get a list of mtg mechanics#like comprehensive#the wikipedia article I used to default to hasn't updated consistently in over a year#it has some mechanics from the past year but not all of them#and it's almost impossible to get a list of like commander and digital and various supplemental set mechanics#but I think I've got an almost comprehensive list now#with some unnamed mechanics to fill it out to a full 8 brackets

Just tried to read a post on my dash that I did not immediately realize was about Disco Elysium that kept mentioning some strange concepts called "Kim" and "Harry" I couldn't understand for some reason & the thing my brain did to try to comprehend the words it was reading and make sense of them for me, was to BEAM (literal) two separate images of Kim Il-Sung and Harry Styles into my vision, which did not help me understand the post at all.
#txt#I wish I had a pc to recreate in powerpoint bc words don't do justice to the way the images actually appeared#it was like the opposite of a fade-out where there was a bright flash of light#that trickled downwards to slowly reveal two side by side regular Wikipedia images of them on a plain white background#and I was just so baffled in response and went “????????????” even after the fucking. vision(?) cleared bc what?#so then I read the whole post with only that as my context until I got to the end & realized it was about a game I'm familiar with#I don't know why my brain does this. It like scrambles to quell confusion & reaches into some unknown cortex to give me the least helpful#things in as JARRING a way as possible ALL THE TIME completely unprompted#I always feel like my brain is just a completely separate animal from me & that animal is a very stupid goblin#just handing me random useless objects while I'm understandably like “how the hell does THIS help me.”#like if that little mickey mouse clubhouse creature was brain shaped & terrible at it's job

a) interesting implication that pseudonyms are basically fake people rather than fake names?
b) I get the point but. people knew George Eliot was a woman during her lifetime and during her career as a writer. She was taken seriously as a woman writer
like yes, literary history is full of women who were not acknowledged or who hid their gender to write or whatever but i'm sure we have better examples for that than george eliot??
#i find these kind of righteous text-videos that flatten historical events for the sake of pop culture feminism honestly annoying#and they always make me really petty#like the fact that her point isn't about 'history being written by women' but. literature. it's about woman writers#also saying 'george eliot doesn't exist' is like saying 'lady gaga doesn't exist' bc that's not her real name#also also (again this makes me petty sorry) mary ann evans was apparently a well respected scholar and translator#yes sorry I got this from wikipedia bad research but my point is mary ann evans was taken seriously in literary spheres under that name#i'm sure not without struggles and all and yes she felt she had to use a pseudonym starting out in literature but she wasn't invisible#and that this is an odd example for the pressures and abuses women in literary spheres had to suffer historically#i am very tired which makes me mean and petty oops
