In a way, the Daleks admire the Doctor. Of course, the Doctor is their enemy—the Predator, the Oncoming Storm, the Great Exterminator, the Destroyer of Worlds—but universally, Daleks admire hatred and destruction and to them, no one else embodies that quite like the Doctor does.

a list of vague descriptions of doctor x rose fics i’ve read and can’t remember the names of
one where Rose gives Tentoo the cold shoulder post Journey’s End to try and spare him but he gets curious, and finds out Rose and the rest of Torchwood are being forced to work for the daleks—the story’s climax involves daleks asking either Rose or Tentoo to pick a planet to destroy, they put in “coordinates” that initiate a self-destruct sequence, but i’m pretty sure they both survive, if rather injured
one where Rose predicts her own future via drawings; pretty sure it was canon compliant thru Journey’s End and i think it was on teaspoon (whofic)
a WIP that was like 6 chapters long on fanfiction.net where Rose had just taken over her father’s company after he died and she’s so stressed that Donna (her secretary? i think?) recommends she go to this wellness center to see AU!Ten (i think his name is Smith?). oh and Martha works at the center too. but yeah John is like an energy healer or smthn like that?
i think this one was called like Rose on the Vine or smthn and it was on ao3 and had a sequel, but it was an all human AU where Rose was a stripper and keeping it a secret from her friends
a Ten/Rose reunion fic where Rose mentions having run into Eight in Paris while Dimension Hopping and spending the night with him
a Nine/Rose fic where nine has to go to a planet that isn’t human-safe so he makes rose a sonic pen-type thing that can um, simulate different…parts for…fun times
a Ten/Rose reunion!fic where Ten makes it back to Pete’s World, and disguises himself to suss out if Rose is happy/would want to come back. i think it was on teaspoon
a Tentoo/Rose fic where Tentoo has nightmares and Rose gives him this special stone that helps, and eventually he finds out that he’s the one who gave it to Rose in the first place (i think the implication was she was going to kill herself pre-dimension cannon), meaning he has to complete a circular paradox. i remember Tentoo wouldn’t let past Rose touch him bc then she’d know he was human. i think it was on teaspoon. it’s possible this could have been 2 separately posted connected fics and i’m just smushing them into one
a fic where the Doctor and Rose have a daughter before he regenerates into Ten and then he has to get his daughter used to his new face, I think it mostly took place as a telepathic conversation between them? also i think it was on teaspoon
a fic where Ten keeps licking Rose and can taste her emotions, no idea where i read it tho
a fic (2 parts, on i think both teaspoon and ao3) where right after Bad Wolf Bay pt 2 Rose and Tentoo get teleported to an elf-like world where “queen” Rose has to settle a debate about ginger between three farmers and Tentoo is given a red velvet suit and then gets drunk from consuming too much ginger
a 2 chapter fic (on tsp?) where Ten and Rose observe their future selves getting it on in like a meadow on an alien planet and then Ten gets squirrely about fulfilling the circular paradox, saying “time is in flux”. there’s a scene where they’re talking to each other on either side of Rose’s bathroom door. chapter 2 is them going back to complete the paradox
i’ll add more to this post as i randomly remember more fics i neglected to bookmark anywhere
fingers crossed someone sees this post and remembers the name of at least one of these fics!

The second season of Doctor Who (2005) is sooo close to being thematically coherent and then! it just isn't!
We first hear the name Torchwood when they fire on a retreating spaceship, destroying it. The doctor gets mad about it, and, in a fit of hubris, destroys Prime Minister Harriet Jones’ career. This establishes our Over Arching Season Mystery AND the tenth doctors Hubris Problem
We then jump back in time to see Torchwood founded in the Stupid Werewolf Episode. Queen Victoria decides that the Doctor is a danger to England and banishes him, and then founds Torchwood with the explicit mission to protect the British Empire and to like. Get the Doctor
And this is INTERESTING because it places the Doctor in direct opposition to the British Empire for the first time EVER. Because of course the Doctor is not loyal to Great Britain. He’s an alien. He’s loyal to the planet earth because all of his friends live here. He does his best to help people because he can’t help it. But he is not a British citizen and he is always going to be at least a little bit a danger to the crown.
(Its important that everyone in authority kind of hates the Doctor)
EXCEPT. Except that is not why Queen Victoria banishes him in the stupid werewolf episode! She’s upset that he’s having too much fun fighting the werewolf, which is a completely unrelated character beat! Dr. Who having fun fighting a werewolf is not any kind of thematic reason to place him in opposition to the British Empire!
And then obviously the season two finale is not very good except for when Billie Piper and David Tennant are acting their little hearts out. And Torchwood as the season mystery is kind of sidelined in favor of daleks and cybermen bitching at each other. But they’re still like taking a sledgehammer to the fabric of reality FOR the glory of Britain. It all COULD tie back together
And I know why this happened and I know why they didn’t commit to this theme!! But! Still! It’s so close!

What does the Doctor Keep in his pockets?
Context: Damian has fallen through the Doctor's pockets after an attempt was made to grab the sonic screwdriver to play with Alfred the Cat. Unfortunately, the Doctor's trenchcoat pockets are deeper than they look and Damian falls inside and right into a warzone of Daleks and Cybermen. (all of this will be added at some point to a later post, I just need to post this now so I can not think about it for a hot minute)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only cowards run. A young man in a red and green suit held a sword in a defensive stance. Damian Al Ghul-Wayne is no coward.
“Dami! What are you doing?”
Damian jumped as he started slashing through the overgrown moving pieces of iron with his upgraded sabre that he had forged from some materials in the trenchcoat pockets. It cut through easily, like a lightsaber in a Star Wars comic book.
“Ex-term-in-ate-”
These tin cans were no match for a small eleven-year-old that runs on spite and red bull.
“I’m trying to save your life here. The least you could do is cooperate.”
“As you can see, I am more than in my element here, Doctor.”
What kind of name was Doctor anyway? It seemed senseless. So far, the only thing he’d done was create more problems and wave a sonic screwdriver (whatever that was), and he didn’t seem to have a PhD.
“You’re not tho-” There was a clashing and cleaning behind him; Damian turned around just long enough to see one of the tin cans spinning into another three. “Damian, you’re underestimating them.”
“You haven’t given us a straight answer once since we came here.”  Damian said. “Give me one good reason why I should trust you.”
“Your father and grandfather trust me.” The Doctor replied. “Is that not enough for you? They traveled with me throughout the ends of the universe, and still, they came home safe and sound.” Damian gripped his sword harder, jumping towards the Doctor. “You’ll want to duck.”
The Doctor dutifully rolled out of the way as Dami crashed into another tin can, decapitating its eye before it had a chance to fire an electrical shock.
“See? They’re gone.” Damian refrained from adding under his breath No thanks to you.
“For now. Til the simulation resets.” the doctor shrugged. “I came to grab you. You’re still in my pocket.”
Damian huffed. They were standing in Gotham plaza. Rulli’s was right across the street, the Batburger was around the corner, and Red Robin right behind him. The ground felt solid underneath his feet. This wasn’t a simulation.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw them again. He muttered curses under his breath.
“Look up.”  Trenchcoat behind him said.
Used to following orders, Damian allowed his eyes to flash upward for one second to see a banner he hadn’t noticed before: “Round 3. Record score: 213300/500000 EXP”
The hell is that supposed to be?
“You’re in my pocket dimension, Damian. Quite literally, you haven’t left my pocket. I came to grab you, but if you’re having too much fun fighting daleks, well, I won’t stop you. Looks like you’re having fun.”
“How long have I been here?” Damian suddenly crouched to avoid two incoming shots from the Daleks.
“Couldn’t tell you. Time passes differently here than in the proper universe.”  Doctor shrugged. “Besides, what is time besides a human concept to measure moment-to-moment-”
“I don’t need a philosophy lesson right now!” Damian shouted. “You could help me out with this, you know.”  The new guy was worse than Dick at this sometimes.
“Nope. They can’t hurt me. I’m a simulation too. Just like them. Except I’m programmed to help you get out.” Damian’s glowing sword cut decommissioned two more Daleks, and then he thought he saw numbers rising from the corner of his eye. 2000?  1500?
“That’s the amount of experience points you’re getting, Damian.” The doctor grinned. “Kill enough Daleks and you get to level up.”
Then Damian noticed that every time the sword struck against the metal, a long red bar would decrease in size, first by halves, and then by smaller increments.
“What is this.”
“I told you. It’s a game.” The Doctor’s voice came from behind him. And Tag, your It.”
Damian turned around to yell at the Doctor when he felt something hit him from behind. As he vibrated and writhed with pain, collapsing to the ground, he heard the sound of glass.
“That’ll be your heart containers, Damian. Might want to make sure those don’t break. You know each level gets harder than the rest. The Daleks get stronger. Faster. Better.”
As soon as Damian got control of his arms back, he swung just in time to reflect one of the dalek’s blows back harmlessly away from himself. Unfortunately, it didn’t hit the Dalek, but all things considered, it looked cool.
“If I level up. Will you get me out of here?”
“You could just quit. I can take you out now.” Only cowards quit. Damian grimaced. He was not a coward.
He did wish he had paid slightly more attention to when his brothers were gaming instead of training. Perhaps there were many different kinds of training.
Round 4 was not difficult. Not only were there Daleks, but they also brought friends that exploded if you came too close to them. This ended up working not to their advantage when Damian found a way to set it off in their vicinity but outside of their range
Round 5 was worse. Another heart container shattered, leaving Damian with two left. He had been facing against two kinds of enemies. Dalek and an enemy that seemed to hate Daleks, but it also wasn’t sentient enough to be friends with him either. But this thing had some kind of tracking aim, so any projectiles would be coming right at Damian no matter where he could run. He could only try to put in some amount of distance between them before they exploded.
Round six got a bigger, translucent banner popdown. LEVEL UP! Please allocate your stats points.
What.
The name at the heading was “Damian Al Ghul-Wayne, 5th Robin of his name, prince of darkness--” the titles carried on past the spacing of the header would allow.
Underneath, there were six boxes, numbers sandwiched by a plus or minus sign.
Strength: 7, Constitution: 9, Dexterity: 9 I ntellect: 6, Wisdom: 5, Charisma: 4
“What happens if I change the numbers?” Damian asked the Doctor, using the moment of peace to turn to face him.
“Do it and find out.” Damian only received a shrug. “Will warn you, the effects after you hit the ‘submit’ button are permanent.”
“How do I leave the simulation?” Damian sheathed his makeshift sword letting his arm rest.
“Well, you have to leave the pocket.” The Doctor stood up and started walking towards him. “Which means you have to keep playing the game.”
Damian exhaled and turned back to the popup. This is ridiculous. These numbers are perfectly arbitrary; what does a 4 in Charisma even mean?
He squared back his shoulders. Whatever these numbers signified, they must have affected the game somewhat. Well, Charisma has not been helpful to this encounter, so not that one. Besides, I’d probably just turn out more like Richard. The thought wasn’t that unpleasant to him, but in the interest of exiting the pocket dimension as soon as possible-.
Jason was strong. Damian idly started pressing the plus button to see how high it would go. A seven turned to fifteen, and it wouldn’t let him toggle any of the other numbers until he returned it to its original state.
As the strength numbers increased, so did his muscles tighten and grow before they were almost bursting out of the suit. Interesting.
Dexterity could be a good one as well- he would be able to match Richard in his flamboyant acrobatics stunts. But why were his intellect and wisdom so low? Damian was top of his class in school, he didn’t deserve a 6 and a 5 respectively.
Damian just took one of each of the traits that interested him (constitution seemed boring and high enough anyway) and having two left, he added one to strength and wisdom each.
Strength: 9, Constitution: 9, Dexterity: 10, Intellect: 7, Wisdom: 7, Charisma: 4
Damian felt his muscles increase again - although not to the same extent as before. However, he also felt sparks fly off in his brain when he increased his intellect and wisdom scores. This is…strange to say the least.
Then part of him realized how funny it would be if he could stay like this in the real world outside the pocket dimension. He debated splurging all six of his points to get charisma up to 10 to unnerve the rest of his siblings. I still need to get out of here though.
“I imagine the levels will only increase in difficulty rank from here?”
“But of course. Same as with any game.” The Doctor replied.
“But there should be a way to force quit.” Damian followed up.
“You could- but where’s the fun in that?” The doctor grinned leaving Damian to simply tsk in disapproval.
He clicked the submit button before realizing that he had only put all of his skill points in Charisma, making the final scores
Strength: 7, Constitution: 9, Dexterity: 9, Intellect: 6, Wisdom: 5, Charisma: 10
Damian growled. I didn’t mean that- but the popup vanished as quickly as it came. Great.
The floods of enemies did indeed increase in great number and in variety. Some of them were easy to deal with, but as expected his Charisma boost was only a dead weight.
“You’re not thinking outside the box enough, Damian!” The Doctor shouted from somewhere behind a barrel. “I believe in you; If Bruce could do it, than so could you.” Father did this as well? Damian didn’t really have time to process this information.d
Then it hit him. What’s Tim saying? The enemy of my enemy is my friend? He could turn them all against each other. Gaslight. Gatekeep. And Girlboss.
“HEY. Metal Trashcans.” Damian shouted. “I am not the one constantly shooting at you. People who shoot at you are your enemy. Therefore , I am not your enemy and you should be fighting the Metal Men.”
Ex-Term-In-Ate. The metal trashcans screamed and turned around, allowing Damian space to breathe in an old tower as things began fighting each other.
I can not believe that worked.
Damian came to the realization that if bamboozling them had worked, he then could then stealth behind them and just convince them to attack each other.
“Did you know that the big metal men are trying to quote unquote upgrade you?” He whispered behind the ranks of the Daleks. “Do you really think they’re going to stop at just the human race? There will be consequences-.”
As the Daleks began to turn and panic, Damian had moved out of sight as the Daleks approached their new enemy. “I am the superior being. Take out the metal trashcans first.” Damian whispered to one cyberman and then disappeared as the hunk of metal turned to look at the voice.
Tim was right, Damian reflected. Psychological warfare was fun sometimes. Perhaps
What if he could also use this to leave. He crept around the simulation grounds until he was next to where the Doctor was perched, crunching away on an apple.
“I wanna go home, Doctor.” Damian leaned his head against the older man’s arm, like he did to Richard when he craved attention. “I miss my family and I’m tired-”
“I can see through you. Your right eye twitches when you lie. Same as your old man.” The Doctor sighed. “Besides, it’s your fault for messing in with my pockets and falling in.”
“I just wanted to use your sonic screwdriver to play with Alfred.” Damian looked up as his lower lip trembled slightly.
The Doctor furrowed his brow slightly as he looked down in Damian’s face. “Somehow I don’t think Alfie’s going to approve of a glorified laser pointer as a pet.”
“No. Not Alfred the Butler. Alfred the cat.”
“Alfred can turn into a cat?” The doctor stood up suddenly, accidentally shoving Damian aside. “This I have to see.”
Damian wasn’t going to correct this assumption until they got home. The Doctor grabbed his hand and pulled out a different glowing gadget- how many did one man need?
Then the simulation faded into Darkness and Damian saw a bunch of stars zooming past him until it turned into soft darkness before he was in the Wayne Manor theater with everyone looking at him.
“Did you have fun?” Father was looking at him with a bemused smile for a second behind a mug.
Damian blinked. “You’re strange . But you’re interesting.”
The Doctor laughed. “He did better than you did, Bruce, you should have seen him rizz up robots like it was nothing-” The Doctor stopped as he laid eyes on Alfred. “Alfie, how have I been roommates with you for multiple centuries and I have not seen you turn into a cat once .”
Alfred looked towards Damian who just shrugged. “I believe there’s been a miscommunication, Doctor-”
Damian slipped out to go check out the TARDIS while the adults were all distracted. There was still time. There was all the time in the world.

Gwen and Ianto and Comic Con
Ok ok, here we go, I'm gonna try and remember everything of what was possibly the most important moment of my life.
So we got there as soon as it opened (actually had to wait forty five minutes before they let anyone in) and after mooching about a bit, getting our bearings, we saw people lining up at the Eve Myles queue (me and my sister) so we got our tickets out and joined up.
The queue was fairly short, but still longer compared to almost everyone else, later on it would stretch out really far. I actually saw Gareth first, because I couldn't see Eve at first in the queue, whereas I saw Gareth arrive and set up. My sister was very smug because he made eye contact with her and smiled When I caught sight of her, my heart leaped. She was soooo beautiful! We get to the front of the queue and got our stuff out.
We got to the front, and she was so nice and friendly. TBH, my sister and I were freaking out a little bit, and I just babbled about how long I have loved Torchwood, while my sister just stood there and smiled awkwardly She shook our hands twice, and talked about cold it was, and how she was wearing her 'captain jack coat' to keep warm. (it was a very nice coat) I mentioned to her how thrilled I was about her coming back to Big Finish, and this was interesting....
She said it took her by surprise, that announcement, because the recording for it actually happened literal YEARS ago Before her babies, before the pandemic! So when the news came out she had to remember what it was.
She shook our hands again, and then I ran and hugged my dad like a little girl who had been given a sticker in school, I was freaking out. We got that done quite early, so we wouldn't have to stress about missing out, and before the line got too long
Then at a quarter past one, roughly, we headed over to the Q&A area so this was in the open, against a wall, near some of the stalls, which made it easy to hang around
We actually caught the end of the Star Wars panel and saw the guy who plays Chewbacca!
The panel was meant to start at half one but it actually took place at quarter to two, but they still gave us the first half hour (and that gave me time to eat the burger my dad grabbed me while my sister and I waited for seats)
Then Eve and Gareth came out. Can't remember the name of the moderator but he was really nice, he was a Doctor of something, and I really liked him. I vaguely recognised him and he said he has moderated Torchwood panels before. He was very funny
Right then, the good stuff They got to the crowd Q&A very quickly Although the moderator talked up Gareth and Eve first, really gushing over Eve and her achievements right now and talking about Gareth's background in theatre.
Gareth made a funny crack about how he got a job at the bar in the National Theatre, hoping it would help him get a foot in the door, only to be blacklisted (i think he was joking)
Right questions. So there were typical questions, like most fun episode to shoot. They both said countrycide, and apologised because they always say that. Eve said something like it being awkward going to the countryside, after saying they're all cannibals. Gareth said the truth hurts.
Another favourite filming memory, was filming in Doctor Who together, when they were facing the Daleks. They said they were literally trapped in the Hub, and lived off Gregs. They ate loads of bean and cheese bakes. By the end, they were begging to be let out, and said they were really seeing Daleks!
Then they were asked what the worst episode to shoot was. Gareth says his was filming Adam, when he was sat in the alley way, wailing and rocking backwards and forwards while a rain machine came down on him. Apparently they couldn't get the take right and had to keep shooting it. The moderator asked if John was behind the camera, making them film it again and again. Gareth said it wouldn't surprise him.
Eve said hers was filming that bit in COE, where she was running through the field, being chased by soldiers, carrying the little girl. She said she rehearsed running in her boots all over Cardiff. She went running in her swanky boots, and joggers and hoody, looking 'insane'.
She said that she didn't account for how muddy the field was. She was running, when she heard her hip pop.
She was swearing, dealing with pain, while trying to keep the little girl's ears covered.
She said people have come to her that day with the COE DVD to sign, and on the back is an image of the exact moment her hip popped. After the shoot ended, she went to the hospital.
Another moment was filming the beach chase scene in Miracle Day Apparently it was minus 14 degrees, and they were zooming along, Eve wearing only a blouse and jacket. Mekhi Phifer really struggled, asking how the Welsh breathed in that weather, and saying that our bacon wasn't bacon Afterwards, Eve had three baths, then got really drunk.
Another question was a moment in filming when they burst out laughing. They said there were moments like that every day, and it was the laughing that exhausted them more than anything else. Eve specified that Gareth falling over in the water filming Cyberwoman made her laugh.
Gareth said it was hearing the different ways Eve would criticise herself after messing up a take The favourite was "What a bag of W*nk".
They were asked their favourite person to film with. James Masters WAS mentioned
But they waxed poetic about how amazing Peter Capaldi was. They talked about how in the read through, everyone stopped and looked up to see what Peter was doing.
He was reading a speech, just listing countries (I think when he first makes contact with the 456) Just listing countries, and Gareth said it was the most amazing speech ever.
I remember that scene, and it gave me shivers just thinking of it They were asked what their favourite Big Finish plays were. They both talked about how amazing Big Finish was, keeping things going after all these years, and thanked the fans for that too. Can't quite remember which one was Gareth's, might have been office that never was. (EDIT: According to Twitter it was Fall To Earth) It was an early one with James Goss, because of how well it captured Ianto's dryness.
Eve said she loved We Always Get Out Alive because of getting to play with that dynamic between Rhys and Gwen.
They were asked by someone interested in directing audio plays about the differences in filming on screen and recording. They gave really thorough, quite analytical answers to that, taking the questioner seriously about their professional interest, which was really nice. It was almost like watching a mini lecture.
On the topic of Big Finish, Gareth was asked if would ever write an audio play between Ianto and Gwen (applaud the questioner's taste!) Gareth said yes, that he's got ideas for all of them, and often receives emails regarding ideas for episodes. But nothing concrete.
OK, now here's the juicy bit. An audience member asked if they were doing anymore stuff for Doctor Who. Gareth asked if 'they would' or 'if they are' They were told, if they 'are' Gareth laughed and said they're not and wouldn't be able to say if they were Eve went very, very quiet Then Gareth said he definitely would, and when Eve was asked if she 'would' she said yes. She let Gareth take the lead answering that, I'm just gonna say It almost seemed like Gareth was covering for her.
This was interesting because right at the start, the moderator asked Eve about what she had been filming lately She said wasn't filming in Wales, she had been filming for a long, long time, and it will be coming out next year She also said that she couldn't say anything about that either
Now that shoot might not be for Doctor Who, but when I went to chat to my dad and brother and his GF about the Q&A (they had been standing at the back, watching) they agreed it seemed like Eve had been put in a tricky spot when asked about Doctor Who. I can't say anything else except there was a Vibe!
I've just got a feeling, you know.
To end on a funny note, their favourite question was what they would put in the Hub if it was rebuilt. Eve and Gareth really liked that question and said that they had never been asked that question before.
Gareth's answer was a shock
He said......a STARBUCKS!
Ianto is rolling in his grave!
A transporter and a Starbucks. Eve said she would put in a bar. I think Gwen would approve of Eve's choice more than Ianto would of Gareth's
The moderator asked if they would add any pets, and they said they already have a pet, but they don't know if she's still hanging around Eve then joked that her garage is very big and 'she' (I'm guessing Myfanwy) is very tame, so it seems Myfwany has a new home
I think that's all the questions. They were incredibly lovely and down to earth, and gave great, in depth answers. Really made it worth the money and drive to come and see them.
Really can't say just how lovely they were, and just how great it was to see them in person and hear their answers.

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 69 (Nice!)
Yellow Fever/Evolution of the Daleks
“Yellow Fever”
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: oof, probably not. Omg wait…I honestly have no clue. Like, here’s the thing, anything that would have this kind of effect on Dean would probably take me out
Dean’s enjoying the mortician being mean to Sam just a little too much.
Loving the tension between Dean and the sheriff. Dean’s not taking any of this seriously and that’s all the sheriff CAN do
Omg yes. Whatever is causing this has infected Dean too and I’m ecstatic. I only VAGUELY remember this episode, but it’s good
So the thing is…if I’m expecting to be touching a snake, no problem (not a euphemism). But if it sneaks up on me? Yeah, Dean’s reaction is entirely rational
“Am I haunted?!” Is he tucking possessed?! He used to be Sam’s brother! Next thing you know, he’ll be listening to nothing but Jimmy Buffet
I forgot this was the episode with Eye of the Tiger yesssssssssss
These are the worst-best softball team names ever. Game cocks? Corn jerkers??
I’m so sorry. To read “you’re dying. Again. Loser.” As a hallucination in a book after what Dean has gone through shouldn’t be this funny. This book is BULLYING HIMMMMM
“I dunwanna be a clue,” he’s so pathetic. I adore him
You’re taking your brother, infected with ghost sickness who has under a day to live before he literally DIES OF FRIGHT, into aN ABANDONED LUMBER MILL??? Yeah, this can only go awesome
I’m sorry for putting so many out of context quotes, but I will keep doing it because “I’ll man the flashlight,” is so goddamn cute. Because…a gun can go off (like he’s not usually the one insisting on bringing a gun to whatever fight they’re in).
The blood curdling scream upon seeing a rat followed by “that was scary!!” I cannot. I literally can’t.
I can’t fault him for running out like that. I would have been long gone way before that
Oh, sheriff’s infected too…
I love Dean worrying about the legality of posing as FBI agents…omg…
Omg…the ghost’s story is so sad…
Oh I wanna hug Dean. He’s really goin through it right now. Just absolutely freaking out and not without good reason. But GOD is it so sad to see
Not complaining but I thought he had way less time than this…
You are not helping by not telling Dean the plan. I want you to know that, Sam. There is nothing more panic inducing to someone who worries than hearing “don’t worry about it” ESPECIALLY when their life is on the line
Oh no. Competing hallucinations. And they both only have a little bit of time left…well, now only Dean does
On one hand, of course it worked, but on the other, I can’t believe they actually scared a ghost to death. On a secret third hand, it’s terrible that they had to use this sad man’s horrific death to scare him AGAIN
I’m here for Sam and Bobby roasting Dean afterward
You guys are so bad at being honest with each other…
And the iconic post-episode “by all means should have been just on the dvd extras but I’m SO GLAD IT ISNT” Jensen performing the ever loving shit out of lip-syncing Eye of the Tiger
“Been On My Mind…”: Nope. 9
“Evolution of the Daleks”
Say what you will about the costuming and makeup in this part of the series, they’re trying something at least. They’re putting EFFORT in
Omg are we gonna reset the counter? Is this gonna happen every time we meet the Daleks?? He gets really riled up when they show up. Just sayin
Yeah, your mistake was thinking you could convince the Daleks to exhibit compassion.
Why does Dalek Sec want the Doctor alive??? Omg could you imagine if the combined a Dalek and a Time Lord??
I feel for Martha here. The Doctor hasn’t been as open with her as even Nine was with Rose, and he’s just expecting her to figure it out like they have the rapport Ten and Rose had. It’s not fair to her
Mmmm, Dalek Sec’s gonna get got by the end of this, aren’t they?? (Also, autocorrect, it’s definitely Dalek Sec, not Dalek Sex…that’s…something I don’t want to think about lmaooo) BECAUSE they’re showing too many human traits, not Dalek enough
But of course, Martha figures it out anyway. Good for her
Bye, Dalek Sec…or not??? And the Doctor’s gonna help them? I don’t believe it
I love that this woman thinks aliens have only come to New York City and only now
Mmmm, the other Daleks are getting suspicious
Martha’s so wonderful. She just wants to be appreciated for who SHE is. Sure, she also has a crush on the Doctor, so many people who meet him do, but she just doesn’t want to be CONSTANTLY compared to Rose
Okay, NOW bye, Dalek Sec. “you told us to imagine, and we imagined your irrelevance.” What a line.
Like…honestly though, were all these characters necessary?? Laszlo doesn’t look like he’s gonna make it, though………
Dalek Sec is STILL ALIVE??? They haven’t just killed him?? Unless they need to put them through some kind of trial because they can’t JUST KILL a member of their own heavily dwindled race
There it is. Gave their life to save the Doctor
Episodes Since the Doctor’s Last Attempted Genocide: 2 (there was a genocide but it wasn’t the Doctor’s fault. There’s also only one Dalek left, which wasn’t the Doctor’s intent or fault either)

Snap
Tenth Doctor x Reader; Eleventh Doctor x Reader; 14th Doctor x Reader (David Tennant Version)
Prompt: inspired by the song Snap by Rosa Linn. The Reader deals with the aftermath of being the Doctor’s companion and unrequited love. Also, with the announcement of David Tennant’s return, I had to include his “14th” Doctor in this as well!
Word Count: 5490
Warnings: brief mention of depression (nothing in detail)
Note: [Y/N] = Your Name; [D/N] = Dog’s Name. I apologize in advance about the Dalek section as I am not overly familiar with their history and am basing them/their lore off of the couple of episodes I’ve watched.
It's 4 AM
I can't turn my head off
Wishin' these memories would fade
They never do
I rolled over in bed, restless, unable to sleep. Visions of space, a smiling man, and a blue police box swirled in my head. It felt like a dream, one that was just out of reach, and yet so raw and real at the same time. It had been six months to the day that the Doctor, a time travelling alien from Galifrey, had left. Six months since he decided I’d never see him again. Six months.
The darkness outside reminded me of my own smallness in the universe. As a human, I was one of the most delicate species across the cosmos – and yet the Doctor somehow made me feel bigger than life. When I was with him, I was whole. We’d traveled all over the universe – from dangerous planets to places more beautiful than I could describe. The Tardis became my home. The Doctor became my life.
Flashback
“[Y/N]! Come this way,” the Doctor’s chipper voice rose over the crowd of people around us. I looked up from the tapestry I was admiring and locked eyes with the Doctor. He sported his brown trench coat and modern looking suit, standing out like a sore thumb amongst the busy medieval market. I smiled and made my way to him. He took my hand, the warmth spreading from my fingers right to my heart.
“I’d like to show you something,” he said, gently leading me through the throng of shoppers.
“Is it a famous historical figure?” I asked, jokingly.
“We already met one of those today! I can’t go around having you meet every important figure and confusing the history books,” the Doctor chuckled, looking over at me.
“Honestly, at this point I think we’ve done enough time travel to confuse every history book in the world,” I responded, only half-kidding.
The Doctor shrugged, laughing. His eyes crinkled and I smiled up at him fondly. How I loved him.
“Anyway, [Y/N], I wanted to show you this,” the Doctor helped me climb up a small embankment and pulled me to his side. I was so close to him I could hear his twin hearts beating in tandem.
“Oh my – Doctor this is beautiful!”
Before me was a huge field of wildflowers, surrounding the giant castle overlooking the kingdom. Flowers long gone in my day stood bright and tall in the morning sun. Pink, yellow, and blue hues rippled across the fields as the breeze blew so slightly. The castle, a massive and elegant building, stood solemnly in the distance. It was like a fairytale.
“Isn’t it just lovely?” the Doctor said.
“It looks like a storybook come to life!” I exclaimed. Though I had seen many incredible sights with the Doctor – from other planets to history-changing events, little things like this always made me pause in awe and admiration. The Doctor figured this out and now, every place or time we stopped in, he made a point of pausing with me to admire these views with me.
“A storybook with a beautiful princess,” said the Doctor, giving my shoulder a small squeeze. I blushed, looking away and trying to calm the nerves in my chest. I had to remind myself that no, he was not a human man, but an alien who was extremely old – romance was forbidden. Even then, I couldn’t stop the thundering in my chest.
End Flashback
Turns out people lied
They said, "Just snap your fingers"
As if it was really that easy for me to get over you
I just need time
            Click. Click. Click.
I sat, absentmindedly typing away on my laptop. It was quiet in my office today. Most people were working from home, which left me with plenty of in-office tea. Though I enjoyed working at home too, that sometimes seemed to make my mind wander far too much, so I volunteered to come in more often than my colleagues. The job itself was fairly easy – a simple data entry job that consisted of me filling out spreadsheets and attending a meeting here and there.
            Mundane.
            Boring.
            Normal.
I stopped typing for a moment, staring off into the distance. It had been a year since I’d seen the Doctor. My wonderful, incredible Doctor. It’s funny – even though I knew it was a year for me, for the Doctor, he could jump into any part of my life and it would seem like just a second. Time was so confusing now. Was a year really so long?
I went back to typing, hardly noticing what I was doing. I had gotten this job a couple months ago after my parents begged me to try to do something with my life. After the Doctor had dropped me off, I spiraled into a depression. I felt nothing and everything at the same time. It was paralyzing. I wallowed for months, unsure of how to continue. I’d just been traveling through space and time, for goodness’ sake! However, as life began to move on without me, I realized that I couldn’t sit in my flat all day with nothing to show for it. My friends carefully pulled me back out into the wider world again, treating me gently and acting like I’d just experienced the worst break up of my life. In fact, they had met the Doctor a few times. To allay suspicion, he introduced himself as my boyfriend (though that made my heart race just thinking about it) and now that he was no longer coming around, they assumed (rightly so) that we’d broken up. Pretty accurate, I suppose.
“You’ll be able to get over this hump,” said one of my friends on a particularly difficult night for me. “Life is full of mysteries and heartbreak, but I know you - you’re strong. And you have us.”
I was forever grateful to my friends for sticking by my side. It must have been odd – the Doctor had dropped me off during a time that was just a couple of months after he’d shown up in my life, so my friends probably thought I had fallen in too deep with a guy I’d known for a short time, even though to me, I’d known him for years. I smiled wryly. What a mess this was.
“Hey [Y/N]! Did you want to join us after work today for dinner?” one of my coworkers called from across the office, pulling me out of my reverie. “Boss said she’d pay!”
I thought about it for a moment. It had been months since I’d gone out, much less socialized with a large group of people. I suppose I was feeling brave today. I smiled at him. “Sure, why not.”
Trying to re-learn how to live a ‘normal’ human life was hard, but I was trying. Though I missed the Doctor more than life, I knew that my time as his companion was over. One step at a time.
Snapping one, two
Where are you?
You're still in my heart
            Flashback
“You look incredible, [Y/N]! I think you’ll definitely fit in,” the Doctor said, nodding in approval. I looked down at the huge, puffy dress, wondering if the Doctor needed his eyes checked. A large, powdered wig perched atop my head like some massive vulture. The Tardis hummed in approval, and I felt even more ridiculous. If the Tardis approved, then I knew I looked positively ludicrous.
“Doctor, I know that this period of time involved this type of – fashion, but you don’t need to lie to me,” I grumbled, trying to keep the wig from toppling to the ground. “You can just tell me I look like an overstuffed cupcake.”
The Doctor laughed. “You’re too much! I’m being serious – I think you look perfect.”
I rolled my eyes. “While I appreciate you, I also refuse to believe you.”
The Doctor chuckled and walked over to me, poking my nose and smiling. “You always look perfect, sweetheart.”
“Stop buttering me up and let’s get a move on,” I said, crossly.
“As you wish,” he said, bowing and holding out his hand as we started towards the Tardis’s exit.
I took his hand, trying to balance the wig and giant dress, while also attempting to be graceful. We managed to get outside – the Tardis had parked in an alleyway in 18th century Paris. I saw ladies in very similar attire as me walking about in the main road, their giant wigs seemingly glued to their heads. I envied how smoothly they walked across the cobblestone streets.
“See, [Y/N]? You look like a French elite,” said the Doctor. “Told you that you look perfect.”
“Well they look lovely, but I – whoa!”
The heel of my shoe caught on a loose area of the cobblestone alley and I went tumbling. The wig, dress, and the many layers of undergarments went flying. The Doctor, caught off guard, came tumbling down next to me. We both hit the ground with a resounding oof.
Panting, I laid there a moment. The wind had been knocked out of me.
            “D-Doctor are you o-okay?” I gasped.
I heard some grumbling and movement next to me. “Don’t worry, I’m good, it’s all okay,” he grunted. “I think your dress broke most of my fall, in fact.”
“Oh so now I’m just a pillow for when you fall over?”
            “A very nice pillow, yes.”
I laughed, though it came out more as a pained grunt. Pretty sure I landed on my tailbone – that would be sore for a couple days for sure.
“Can you help your pillow up, please? I think I’ll change – era accurate fashion be damned for this trip,” I mumbled.
The Doctor jumped lightly to his feet. Surprising considering how far he’d fallen just moments ago. He held his hand out to me.
“Come on there, let’s get you changed up and then we can explore,” he said cheerily. “And I promise to never make you wear anything quite so… cupcake-like again.” He winked and I groaned.
“You never cease to amaze me,” I said, grabbing his hand and getting on my feet. The wig lay forgotten on the cobblestone street. “It’s like you know exactly how to make me feel better and worse at the same time!”
He smiled, kissing my forehead. “It’s the power of the Doctor!”
I smiled back at him. “A special power indeed.”

Snapping three, four
Don't need you here anymore
Get out of my heart
'Cause I might snap
It was a cold winter day. I was wrapped up like a little present against the cold. My puffy jacket, hat, and scarf were working overtime. My dog, a little corgi, shuffled ahead of me. I held on to her leash, keeping my hands shoved deep in my pockets. My parents had gotten her for me about two years ago, right after my first-year anniversary at my job. I was so excited – she was just the spark of joy I needed.
“Come on, [D/N]! I know you love the snow, but it’s freezing out here,” I said as she stopped to sniff another light post. “Let’s get ourselves home and warm, shall we?”
[D/N] looked up at me and wagged her tail. Though it was cold outside, my heart warmed me fully just looking at her little face.
“Ok, fine, you can sniff a little longer,” I laughed, giving her a little more lead of the leash.
[D/N] started to dig intensely in the snow, her face almost completely covered. I shook my head in amusement. Dogs were so silly sometimes.
“Right, I’m sure there’s something really interesting in there, but I think you should probably stop digging on public land,” I said, giving her leash a little tug.
Suddenly, [D/N] popped out of the snow, a book in her mouth.
“What’s that you have there?” I said, kneeling down and carefully taking it from her. She wagged her tail and smiled at me, proud of her find.
I looked at the cover. The Angel’s Kiss was embossed on the front.
“Huh, The Angel’s Kiss, eh? Looks like one of those weird romance novels,” I joked to [D/N]. “I suppose we can put it on that bench over there. Hopefully someone can find it again.”
“Excuse me! Excuse me I think you might have my book…”
A cheerful voice suddenly rang out in the quiet winter air. I turned around to see a very tall man walking up the path. His hair was brushed over to one side of his face and his bowtie was slightly askew.
“Oh, this romance novel is yours?” I asked, holding it up and fully facing him.
I noticed him do a double take, his face clouding over for a second, before the serene smile returned. “Ha, it’s no romance novel, but yes, it is mine. Well, kind of, I suppose,” said the stranger, reaching out for the book hurriedly. “But I can take it off your hands now.”
I was startled by his sudden reach and the book fell back into the snow. “Oh, what’s the rush? Perhaps it is a spicy romance novel,” I said, half-joking. The man looked at me again for a long moment, before saying quietly, “No it isn’t,” as he leaned down and picked the book up from the snow.
“Thank you very much,” he said, and quickly turned away back up the path.
As I watched him walk away my brow furrowed. He seemed so familiar to me. Though I didn’t remember ever seeing him before, there was something about him… I couldn’t quite put a finger on it.
I looked down at [D/N]. She sat patiently, looking at me. “Well, I suppose my imagination can get out of hand sometimes, can’t it?” I said. “Come on, little one, let’s go.”
As I turned away, back towards my flat, I heard a woman’s voice cry out “Doctor! Where have you been?”
The Doctor? No, surely not here, not now…
I whirled around. The man I’d just been speaking to was standing with two others now, a little farther down the path. A woman with red hair and a brown-haired man. The woman was tugging at the book I’d just handed back to him. Perhaps I’d misheard, maybe it was a mistake…
“Doctor, what’s wrong? It looks like you’ve just seen a ghost,” said the woman.
No, I hadn’t misheard. The familiarity, the odd comfort – it was the Doctor. Indeed, it wasn’t my Doctor, at least not as knew him, but it was still the Doctor. A rush of emotions hit me. I felt anger, sadness, pain, and hope all at the same time. Had he forgotten me? He didn’t seem to recognize me at all. And he had two new companions? When he’d left me, he swore he’d never take another person with him again – what was this hypocrisy? Was I not good enough?
I felt my legs begin to move without me. I wanted to sprint to him, to demand answers, to figure out what was going on. Why did he look so different? Why did he act like he didn’t know me – was this another one of his kind? No, he said there were no Time Lords left. My brain was spinning. Four years. Four years. And he chose to show up now. Right as I was starting to feel whole again.
“Doc –“ I began, but then, as though on cue, a massive gust of wind suddenly stirred up, causing the snow to dance into the sky and obscure my vision. I covered my eyes and quickly grabbed onto [D/N] to ensure she didn’t get lost in the gust.
The snow settled and there was no sign of the three figures. Still holding [D/N], I ran over to where they had been, hoping against hope I’d see one of them or the Tardis hidden amongst the bushes. Nothing. I blinked back tears, feeling an overwhelming sense of sadness and heaviness descend on my chest. I’d always wanted to see the Doctor again, but this felt wrong. He had new companions. He didn’t acknowledge me. He even looked completely different. The bubbling of emotions in my chest suddenly ripped through and I wailed in anguish. This feeling felt as fresh as the day he left me.
I'm writing a song
Said, "This is the last one"
How many last songs are left?
I'm losing count
Flashback
I was shaking with fear. The Doctor stood in front of me, his arms spread to protect me. I could see his body quivering just a bit, but his voice held steady as he tried to reason with the Daleks in front of us.
“You don’t want to do this,” he said. “She is innocent – “
“Exterminate.” Said the robotic voices, ignoring him.
“D-Doctor please, you need to g-go and save the others,” I whispered. “I can’t move and there are others who need you right now – please.”
“Don’t speak, [Y/N],” he commanded. I could hear the fire in his voice. “I will protect you.”
The Daleks had their blasters pointed at us, slowly closing in. I felt sick. This was all my fault. I had accompanied the Doctor on this mission to rescue some space travelers who had been captured by the Daleks. The Doctor tried to make me stay in the Tardis, but I insisted. Instead, all I’d done was gotten hurt and now the Doctor couldn’t continue with the rescue mission. I tried to stand but hissed in pain. A large gash on my leg prevented me from being able to move comfortably.
“Don’t move, [Y/N], I don’t need you to be more hurt than you already are,” said the Doctor, his voice stern. Almost angry, I thought.
I looked around wildly, wondering if somehow, I could help distract these beasts. We were pressed up against a wall, cornered. I felt the wall behind me. It was smooth metal. Hardly anything – wait! My hand hit a large bolt. It felt loose. I carefully began to untwist it, hoping to not draw attention to myself as the Doctor continued to speak to the Daleks.
Buy me a few more seconds, Doctor, I thought.
Bingo! The bolt came off in my hand. Summoning all my courage and strength, I chucked it hard at the Dalek closest to me. It hit the dome of the robotic and it short-circuited. The other Daleks were momentarily distracted, so I grabbed the Doctor’s hand and pushed myself to move as quickly as I could despite the searing pain in my leg.
“[Y/N]!” the Doctor yelped, surprised. “You’re brilliant.”
“I try to be,” I panted, concentrating on not falling as we made our escape. The Doctor grabbed me by the waist and half-dragged, half-carried me through the Dalek ship.
“Listen to me, [Y/N], I am going to get you back to the Tardis. Do you understand?” he said as we made our way back to the Time Lord’s ship. I nodded, weakly. On a normal day I’d protest, but with my leg and the mess I’d already caused, I accepted his judgement quickly.
We made it back to the Tardis in one piece. The Doctor quickly got me inside and sat me down against a wall. He then typed something into the ship’s main interface.
“Protective force field,” he said, without looking up.
After he was done, he quickly came over to me. He gently grabbed my chin, raising my eyes to meet his. “Listen to me, [Y/N],” he began, his voice the most serious I’d ever heard. “You need to stay here, you need to stay safe, and you will not leave the Tardis. Do you understand me?”             I nodded; eyes wide. The Doctor was rarely this serious.
            “Good.”
And with that, he left me there. The Tardis hummed nervously, and I did my best to patch my leg up as best I could. I hated sitting around while he was in danger, but I knew in this case I’d be nothing more than in the way.
It felt like ages, sitting in an empty Tardis, anxiously hoping the Doctor was going to come back to me in one piece. My mind started to race. What if the Doctor came back injured? I’d never treated him for any wounds before – would I know how to? What if…he didn’t come back? I’d only operated the Tardis a handful of times and wasn’t sure if I’d be able to escape. I pushed that dark thought out of my mind. He was the Doctor! Of course, he’d come back.
            “Run!”
I jumped as the Tardis doors swung open and the Doctor plus four spacemen came tumbling inside. The Doctor was furiously scrambling to the controls, shouting commands, and telling everyone to hold on. The chaos outside the Tardis swiftly disappeared as the ship started to whirl and we were off.
The breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding was let out. The four spacemen huddled together, looking forlorn. I remembered the Doctor saying there had been eight.
“[Y/N], are you ok?” the Doctor was by my side, arm wrapped around my shoulders. “I’m so sorry you got hurt like this and I had to leave you. So sorry.”
He looked at my leg, which was still seeping blood from under the bandage I hastily wrapped around it. I smiled wryly at him. “Just a scratch.”
He shook his head and did not smile. I saw him gently touch my leg, though at this point the adrenaline that had been coursing through my veins was beginning to wane. The Tardis was getting darker and I felt my head start to fall to the side,
“[Y/N]? Hey! Stay awake, [Y/N]! Stay with me. Please, stay with me!”
I could hear the Doctor’s panicked voice but could not muster the strength to open my eyes again. I fell into a cloud of darkness, the world fading away.
***
I woke with a start. Disoriented, I looked around the room I was in, vision blurry. My mouth felt so dry, and my head was pounding.
“[Y/N]? [Y/N]! You’re awake, good god, you’re awake,” the Doctor’s voice burst through the haziness and once again he was by my side. “Sit up slowly now, you’ve been asleep for a while.”
“Sleep? What?” I mumbled, still trying to get my bearings. “Where am I? What’s going on?”
“We’re in the Tardis,” he said. “Your body has been recovering from that wound on your leg.”
I blinked a couple of times to get the Doctor into focus. His eyes were lined with worry and his hair was more tousled than usual. He looked haggard.
“You look terrible,” I murmured. The Doctor shook his head, giving me a weak smile as he handed me a glass of water.
“Happy to see you too,” he said quietly.
As I drank the water, the Doctor studied me intensely. His gaze burned my skin and I shifted uncomfortably under this scrutiny.
“Doctor?” I began with uncertainty. “What’s wrong?”
The Doctor looked away, running a hand through his hair. He seemed to be steeling his nerves. Was he going to berate me for how I caused a massive problem on the Dalek ship?
Suddenly he snapped his head back to me and smiled widely. “Nothing, nothing at all, [Y/N]. Just glad you’re feeling better. Your leg wound should be all healed up after I cleaned and treated it. Since we’re parked near your flat, I figured you could get some rest in your own room once you finish your water.”
Confused, I stared at him. Just moments ago he was incredibly somber and now he was acting as though nothing was wrong. I continued to sip my water, brow furrowed as I studied the Doctor. There was something up with him, but I decided not to press it for now.
About a half hour later, the Doctor asked me if I could stand. I did so, carefully, noticing that my leg didn’t pain me any longer, but I still favored it. I was definitely sore.
“So, how does the leg feel?” asked the Doctor. “Up to take a little walk?”
I groaned as I stretched. “Fine, a little walk. After I get some things from my flat I want you to take me to the nicest alien spa there is in the universe.”
The Doctor made a noncommittal noise and simply turned his back to me. “Come on, [Y/N], let’s go.”
He guided me out of the Tardis. We walked a short way to the entrance of my flat. The Doctor got us in using his sonic screwdriver as I’d left my keys in the kitchen. As we entered the flat, I could tell there was some energy in the air that I could not quite put my finger on. There was something the Doctor wasn’t telling me.
“Doctor,” I said, suddenly turning around and staring at him straight in the eye. “What are we doing? What’s going on?”
The Doctor avoided my gaze. “Can we please sit down in the living room to talk, [Y/N]?”
I frowned but obliged. As we sat down together, his hand resting gently on my knee, the Doctor looked me straight in the eyes and said, “[Y/N] you need to stay here now. This last trip I almost lost you, and I can’t lose another person.”
The words seemed to echo in the empty flat, bouncing off the walls and assaulting my ears.
“Sorry, did you say stay here? As in, you’ll leave and not come back for me?” I asked, trying to understand what he was telling me.
The Doctor looked down. I felt his hand squeeze my knee slightly.
“Yes. I promised myself that if one of my companions ever got hurt, or was close to getting terribly injured, I would never, ever, lead them to danger again,” he said. “And you, [Y/N], are the most important person in my life. Seeing you almost – seeing you pass out in my eyes I just – “
The Doctor’s voice hitched. Instinctively, you reached out to comfort him, but he stopped your hand, gently lowering it back down away from him. “I refuse to be the reason you get hurt. I do not deserve to have a companion. You will be my last, [Y/N]. I hope you know how special you are to me”
“N-no, don’t say this. You haven’t even asked me if this is what I want,” I choked out, tears welling in my eyes. “When we first met you said that we’d go everywhere together. You can’t just throw me away like trash.”
The Doctor shook his head vehemently. “You are a treasure, [Y/N]. A treasure worth protecting. A treasure worth keeping far away to protect.”
“Doctor no, I’m not delicate, I can help you – “
The Doctor stood up suddenly. He didn’t look at me in the eyes as he said, “Goodbye, [Y/N]. Please stay safe. And don’t wait for me.”
I grabbed for his hand, but he brushed it aside as he marched out toward the door of my flat.
“Stop! Doctor! DOCTOR!” I shouted, going after him. He paused for a moment in the entrance of my flat, and I hoped against hope he would stop. He turned to face me, a pained expression on his face. His mouth formed the words:
            “I love you.”
And he was gone.
Since June twenty-second
My heart's been on fire
I've been spending my nights in the rain-
Tryna put it out
“Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday, dear [Y/N], happy birthday to you!”
I smiled, surrounded by my friends and family as they sang to me. My birthday hat sat askew atop my head and a modest cake sat in front of me, the birthday candles glowing.
“Go on, blow them out and make a wish,” said my mum.
I thought for a moment, then blew out the candles. Ten years older. How time flies.
“Well are you going to tell us what you wished for?” one of my friends asked, grinning.
Chuckling, I said what I repeated every year, “But then it wouldn’t be a real wish, would it?” My wish was silly – childish even, but I wished to see the Doctor one more time every year. At this point, it was a tradition I had to keep. The only soul who knew was [D/N] because she never judged.
My friends and family shared the evening together, laughing, joking, and enjoying each other’s company. I endured the usual teasing of ‘when are you going to get a man? You can’t just work forever!’ and my mum and dad joking (with a hint of truth) about how [D/N] would be their only grand-pup. I was used to it by now and it didn’t bother me anymore. Yes, I threw myself into my career. It paid off as I was doing quite well for myself. Unfortunately, my job didn’t really give me a lot of time for dates, but I did try. It just seemed I was very unlucky in the dating scene. Nothing ever worked out. They all simply didn’t fill a void that seemed to constantly be in my heart.
“You know, [Y/N], I have a new coworker who is super cute. I bet you guys would get along,” said one of my friends, whipping out her phone and showing me a picture. “Look he’s just your type!”
I laughed. “Oh come on, you know I don’t have time right now! Besides, [D/N] and I are doing just fine, the two of us. She’s my best partner!”
As the party started to wind down and people began to leave, I gave let everyone give one last pat to [D/N] on their way out. Her little tail still wagged furiously, though not as energetically when she was a pup. The grey around her muzzle was beginning to show more prominently, and I made sure to give her extra attention on days like today.
“Hey girl, don’t think I forgot about your birthday treat,” I said once we were alone. I went the pantry and pulled out a little cake-shaped dog treat. [D/N] snagged it happily and curled up in dog bed, happy to gnaw on the treat.
            I smiled.
“I’ll be right back,” I said to her. “Enjoy!”
After tossing a few more things in my trash can, I tied up the full trash bag and I headed out of my flat. It was quiet outside. Peaceful. The summer bugs sang an evening song as I walked towards the trash receptacles in back of the complex. Street lamps illuminated my path. A man passed by me, his face obscured by the darkness.
            “Good evening,” said the man.
“Evening,” I said back, without much thought.
            “Headed anywhere special?” he asked.
Annoyed, I responded, “Yes, the trash. Isn’t that obvious from the trash bag in my hand?”
The man laughed. “You never change, [Y/N].”
            “Sorry, do I know y –”
My breath caught in my throat and the trash bag dropped from my hands. The man stood under a street light, revealing his face to me.
“Doctor!” I exclaimed. I wanted to run to him, but I felt cemented to the spot. I was shocked. It was my Doctor, not the version I’d seen so many years ago. He looked almost identical to what I remembered, except that he was sporting a different color suit and looked a touch older.
“I – you, what are you doing here?” I fumbled over my words, not knowing what to say or how to feel.
“I need you, [Y/N]. One last adventure for us to share,” he said. “I’ll understand if you say ‘no’, of course, but I –”
I didn’t let the Doctor finish. I sprinted to him and wrapped my arms tightly around him. His familiar scent and warm embrace filling the empty space in my heart.
I heard him laugh, the wonderful sound giving me life. “I’ll take this as a yes.”
The familiar sound of the Tardis filled my ears and the Doctor, my Doctor, pulled me to his side once again.
            “Allons-y!”
So I'm snapping one, two
Where are you?
You're still in my heart

Saying goodbye is never easy.
In fact you would say it was one of the hardest parts of life with the Doctor. You never get to stay in one place for long so you're constantly meeting new people only to have to say goodbye a few days later. Unless they decide to join you in the TARDIS, but even companions don't stay forever.
It wasn’t that long ago that Graham and Ryan decided to stay on earth, and now here you are saying goodbye to Dan. Although you can’t blame him for wanting to leave, he did just almost die on your last adventure together. But still, goodbyes suck!
At least you’ll always have Yaz. You can’t imagine her ever leaving, especially now she’s admitted to you and Dan that she has feelings for the Doctor.
“I don't know what to do. I’ve never told anyone, not even myself.”
“Just tell her” Dan replied
“It’s not that easy”
“Look, I took way too long to tell somebody that I liked them and then the universe ended and everything got messy.” He paused “I wouldn’t want that to happen to you Sheffield”
You saw a small smile flash on Yaz’s tear streaked face at the nickname Dan had given her.
“Dan’s right, you should totally tell her how you feel.” You agreed.
“But, what if she’s doesn’t like me back. What if I just make things awkward?”
“Oh she hundred percent likes you back. Trust me, I’ve been in her head. My mother is just awkward and doesn’t know how to handle these things.” You draped your arm over Yaz’s shoulder “So take the reins, be brave, and tell her! Who knows, maybe soon I’ll be calling you my stepmother”
The three of you had burst into laughter until a Dalek approached and reminded you of the danger you were facing at the time.
Since then you and Dan had tried to give Yaz and the Doctor opportunities to be alone but after the whole thing with the sea devils, Yaz had informed you and Dan of the conversation she’d had with the Doctor. Though you were disappointed that your mom had pretty much rejected the idea of a relationship with Yaz, you understood why. She’d loved and lost so many people already, and each time hurt just as badly as the last. Still you could tell Yaz had no plans to leave the TARDIS fam anytime soon and would be travelling with you until she physically couldn’t anymore.
After saying goodbye and leaving Dan to restart his life on earth, the three of you were thrust back into another adventure. A message from a rogue Dalek, a metal ‘cyberplanet’ in the year 1916 and regenerating Cybermen. Oh, and to top it all off The Master is back after somehow surviving the destruction of Gallifrey.
You had just managed to narrowly escape an attack from the Cybermen when Kate, the head of UNIT, called to the Doctor for help. After arriving at UNIT HQ, and an awkward meeting with Ace and Tegan, Kate explained why she had summoned you. Multiple paintings forced to be removed from public view due to being defaced with images of ‘Rasputin’. This literally had the Master’s name, or should that be face, all over it.
The meeting was interrupted when The Master sent a video broadcast, basically luring the Doctor to meet him. Even though you were 99.9% certain this was some sort of trap, the three of you jumped back in the TARDIS and headed to Naples.
Walking into the lecture hall you could hear the Master rambling about seismology and earthquakes, but you weren’t listening. All you could focus on were the people being forced to listen to him.
“Doctor look” Yaz whispered as she too noticed the miniaturised students left around on the benches.
The Master stopped talking when he noticed the three of you stood at the top of the stairs, raising his hand to wave at you.
“Do you like my seismologist collection? Think I’ve got the whole set now” he says casually as if he hasn’t just killed a room of innocent people.
“All right, I’ve followed your breadcrumb trail” The Doctor says as she starts down the stairs “Some people think your Rasputin, you’ve got a TARDIS on a metal planet with a stolen Qurunx, guarded by your cybermasters in 1916. Now, do I win a prize if I guess how this all fits together or are you just going to tell me why you're grandstanding?”
“Be patient. We’ll get there” The Master replies
“How did you even escape from Gallifrey?”
“Magnificent attention to detail” The Master laughs as he shoulder barges past the Doctor, ignoring her question “I’m a seismologist now”
“You killed all these people!” Yaz interrupts "For what?”
“To give you a simple, fair, warning.” The Master saunters right up to the Doctor, causing you to take a small protective step forward. “Leave earth now Doctor, or it will be the death of you. Because really, honestly, truly… this is the day you die. No, not just die. This is the day you are erased from existence…” he glances at you, then back to the Doctor “forever.”
To your surprise the Doctor doesn’t respond, she doesn’t say anything at all. She just stands there, staring at the Master. He laughs, glancing over at Yaz.
“I know, bit of a conversation stopper. Awkward right?” He bounces over to Yaz “Do you see what I’ve done? I was so clever because I can give her this warning, but we both know she won’t leave. She can’t, not now that I’ve said that to her and yet she knows she should, because she also knows I don't make empty threats.” He turns suddenly moving so he’s face to face with you, staring intensely in your eyes “I can absolutely, categorically, pinkey-promisey confirm this is no empty threat.”
Before any of you have a chance to respond, UNIT crash through the doors.
“Ooh, OH! You brought soldiers” The Master moves excitedly to the centre of the room “Are these for me? Oh you shouldn’t have.” The Master continues to ramble as two soldiers restrain and handcuff him, but you aren’t listening to him anymore. Instead you're watching your mother, trying to work out what she’s thinking. The Master was right, she won’t leave earth undefended but he was also right in saying he doesn’t make empty threats. And he seems way too excited about the UNIT soldiers. A horrible thought crosses your mind that this is all part of the Master’s plan. This is exactly what he wants.
“Give her a gun” The Doctor’s words bring you out of your thoughts.
“What?!” Yaz looks as surprised as you as she goes close the Doctor.
“Mom?!” You join them.
“Her too” The Doctor gestures to you and a soldier offers you a small hand gun. “Cover him. We’re going to take him in the TARDIS.” She sees your reluctance to accept and takes the gun for you, holding it out to you “Take the gun Y/N”
“Ooh she must be worried” The Master taunts from behind you “Thought she didn’t like guns”
“Fine” Yaz takes the gun from the other soldier, immediately pointing it at the Master.
“Do you even know how to use that love?” he mocks her.
“Don't you worry, I’ve had weapons training” Yaz replies confidently “Now move”
“Great chat, good meeting. Thank you all!” The Master calls out as the soldiers lead him away, Yaz following close behind.
“Y/N” the Doctor says quiet but firm, still holding the gun for you to take. You look her in the eye.
“Guns? Really Mom? This isn’t you.”
“Just take it.” She snaps, before looking apologetically “please”
“Please tell me you have a plan?” You say as you put the gun in your pocket “Because the Master certainly does and I think we’ve just played right into it”
She looks genuinely worried for a moment before putting on her best Doctor smile. “Of course I do” she places a hand on your shoulder and a shock shoots through your body. “Sorry, very staticky today for some reason. Come on.”
— — — —
Even as you watched the Master get locked away in UNIT HQ, you still can’t shake the uneasy feeling that it was all going to go wrong. And boy were you right.
While the Doctor and Yaz went off in the TARDIS to meet with the Dalek informant, you stayed behind to keep guard over The Master.
“Y/N” he dragged your name out in a sort of song like way, taunting you through the bars of his cell. “What’s wrong, cat got your tongue?” He chuckled to himself as he crouched in the corner “Oh come on, talk to me! It’s no fun if you don't talk to me! Aren’t you going to ask me about my plan? I know you want to, cause you're smart you see. You're not arrogant enough to believe that me being behind these bars means you’ve won. You think I’ve got something up my sleeve.” He pauses “Am I right? Oh I’m right aren’t I? Because we’re not so different you and I-”
“I am NOTHING like you!” You snap, moving closer to the bars.
“Finally! She talks!” He jumps up from his crouched position and comes closer to you “I was starting to think you’d forgotten how”
“So you got me to talk, now what? What do you want me to say, oh Master?” You say sarcastically
“Ooh say that again, I like it” he smiles and you look at him in disgust before turning away. “No? Ah never mind. Our time here is nearly up anyway.”
You freeze, turning back to look at him. “What do you mean?”
He just smirks, and you feel a shiver run up your spine. Something is wrong.
From outside the door you hear gunshots and shouting, followed by Kate’s voice over the tannoy.
“All units. Full combat protocols. UNIT is under attack. I repeat, UNIT is under attack from Cybermen.”
You rush toward the cell, reaching through the bars to grab the Master by his jacket.
“What did you do?!” You shout desperately in his face, but he just laughs. You let go of him, reaching into your pocket to grab the gun. “What did you do?!”
He continues to laugh, despite the gun pointed at him. Suddenly the door behind you explodes open and Ashad the Cyberman enters. You turn to point the gun at him, blocking his path to the Master but he pushes you aside sending you crashing to the floor and the gun flies from your hand. He prepares to shoot you but the Master stops him.
“Not her!” He yells “I want her alive”
Ashad blasts the cell bars open and the Master steps out triumphantly.
“I am so glad I cloned you” he says, before turning his attention to you just in time to see you still laying on the floor reaching for the gun. He walks over, putting his foot on your hand making you cry out. “I wouldn’t, if I were you.” He removes his foot, swiftly kicking the gun completely out of reach and looking back down at you. “Up.” He commands, but you don't move. “Don't make me repeat myself.”
Reluctantly you do as you're told, groaning quietly at the pain in your body as you get to your feet.
“Good girl.”
He spins on his heels, grabs one of the broken cell bars and smashes something on the wall. He reaches inside and pulls out a small device “such a good plan!” He praises himself.
Keeping his eyes fixed on the device, he holds his hand out to you. When again you don't move he growls your name, turning to face you as he slowly walks toward you “disobeying me isn’t going to stop anything, it just delays the inevitable and makes me angry in the process. And when I'm angry…” he grabs your face harshly, pressing his fingers painfully into your cheeks and pulling your closer “…I can make life even more painful for you, your little human friend” he pauses and smiles sinisterly “and your mother”
He releases your face and takes a step back, holding his hand out once again. You sigh, before reaching out to him. The second your hand touches his, he activates the device and transports you both out of UNIT.
As you land he releases your hand and you slump down onto the ground.
“Welcome to St Petersburg” he says, and as you look up at him you realise he’s changed his appearance to look like Rasputin.
Your head feels weird, and you close your eyes as you try to shake it off. After a moment the fog in your head clears and you look up to realise you’re in a large, circular room. It looks posh. Like, palace level posh. Around the edge of the room are Daleks and Cybermen, all stood facing the centre of the room where you see the shell of a Dalek. Your eyes focus and you realise the Doctor is restrained and unconscious.
“Mom!” You scramble to get to your feet, but two Cybermasters step forward and place their metal hands on your shoulders, keeping you knelt on the ground. “What have you done to her?”
“Oh nothing yet my dear, the best it yet to come.” He crouches down to eye level with you “and you get a front row seat, you lucky thing you”
A small groan comes from the Doctor, signalling she’s waking up and the Master jumps up and bounds over to her.
“Hello Doctor. Welcome to the end of your existence.” He smiles, taking a few steps back and gesturing around the room “Say hello to my friends”
She sleepily glances around, her eyes landing on you.
“Oh and your precious little offspring is here too!”
“If you’ve harmed her-” the Doctor begins but the Master laughs
“What Doctor? You’ll kill me? Because I think I’ve proved by now that’s not possible.” He spins around to show off his outfit “Do you like the garb? I love the garb. Got to dress for the occasion.”
He continues to ramble for a while, but you and the Doctor remain looking at each other. A silent conversation happening between the two of you.
“…the day I killed the Doctor.” You tune back into the Master’s speech “With a little help from my friends”
“Your friends?” The Doctor scoffs “You hate each other!”
“And the one thing stronger than their hatred for each other… is their hatred for you” he reaches his hand up to touch the Doctor’s face, causing you to struggle against the Cybermaster’s hold on you. “ooh she’s a feisty one isn’t she Doc” he laughs, sauntering over to you. “You know, it really is beautiful how much you two care for each other. Want to protect each other.” He reaches down, placing a finger under your chin to tilt your head up. Forcing you to look at him. “I hope you’ll feel the same way about me when I’m your mother… or father? Daddy? We can decide on the name later-”
“What are you talking about?” You ask him with disgust.
“The next phase of my brilliant plan!” He removes his hand from your face, allowing your head to drop back down to a comfortable position as he turns away from you. “I’m going old school Doctor. Do you remember the ultimate sanction for breaking our laws?”
There’s a heavy silence as the Doctor and the Master stare at each other.
“Forced regeneration. They even did it to you once didn’t they? Well maybe more than once, who knows? Not you”
“You don't have the technology” you can hear the panic in your mother’s voice.
“I do… I do. I DO!” He laughs excitedly “when I ransacked Gallifrey, I took everything. But where would he get the power? If only I had a planet built for this purpose. No, wait wait! I do!!”
“The cyberplanet?” You say, thinking out loud.
“Bingo! Gold star for Y/N, I see why you keep her around Doc.” He winks at you “A conversion planet, except it doesn’t only convert organic to cyber… I brought it here to help another conversion altogether.”
He reaches his arm up in the air, presses a button on the device in his hand and the room descends into bizarre chaos. Music fills the room as the chandelier hanging in the centre of the room transforms into the same cube like thing you’d seen on the other TARDIS on the cyberplanet. Meanwhile the Master dances happily to himself, as Daleks and Cybermen watch on from the sidelines. You and the Doctor exchange confused glances, which the Masters notices. He dances over to you, orders the Cybermen to move and pulls you up to dance with him. When you just stand there unmoving he comes behind you, grabs your arms and waves them about like a puppet master controlling a doll.
It doesn’t take long before he’s bored at your lack of enthusiasm. He throws you back into the arms of the Cybermasters and marches over to the Doctor as two large glass boxes are transported into the room.
“Lets get you out of there” He removes the Doctor’s restraints and steps aside for her to stand. “Get in the box”
The Doctor hesitates, glancing over at you as she’s clearly trying to figure a way out of this. The Master clicks his fingers and suddenly every Dalek in the room turns to face you, their gunsticks primed and ready to fire.
“I don't think I need to explain what happens to her if you disobey me, do I Doctor?”
— — — —
Once she’s in the glass box, the Master sends a message to Yaz in the TARDIS, Cleary luring her to him, then climbs inside the other box.
“Forced regeneration, Doctor…” The doors of the boxes shut, locking your mother inside. “..to force you to regenerate into me!”
“No!” You shout, struggling against the grip of the Cybermasters but their metal hands just squeeze tighter.
“You wouldn’t?” The Doctor shakes her head in disbelief, her eyes almost begging the Master to stop.
He activates the device and red lightning crashes through the roof into the boxes. The Master and Doctor start glowing orange, a sign regeneration has begun. Your mother locks eyes with you as tears slips down both your faces.
“Y/N!” She calls to you over the sound of the Master screaming “Look after Yaz!”
You nod your head “I love you!”
“I lo-” she begins but it cut off as suddenly in her place stands the Master in the Doctor’s clothes. He maintains eye contact and though you want to look away, you can’t. “It worked” he steps out of the box, falling to his knees and groaning. He composes himself, slowly standing as he declares “I… am… the Doctor!”
You close your eyes, trying to stop anymore tears for spilling but open them again when you hear the familiar sound of the TARDIS landing. For a brief second your heart jumps as you think your mother has arrived to save the day, but then you remember… she’s gone. You look over to see Yaz cautiously poke her head out the door.
“Oh hello, Yasmin Khan” the Master/Doctor steps towards her triumphantly.
Yaz glances between you and him “Where’s the Doctor?” The Master laughs, making Yaz angry “MY Doctor!”
“Gone” he replies simply, and you see Yaz’s heart sink. “Really gone, forever gone.” He steps closer to her “Don't worry, you’ll get used to me. You both will.” He looks over to you, holding his hand out “come here, daughter of mine”
You feel instant pain relief as the Cybermasters finally release you, pushing you forward slightly and making you stumble into his hold. He cups your face in his hands, wiping tears from your cheek.
“Come, come now. Don't cry dear. Smile for Daddy, hm?”
He stares into your face, waiting for you to obey. In your mind you hear his earlier warning about not doing what you're told and you use all the energy you can muster to flash him a small false smile. “Better.” He lets go of your face, returning his attention to Yaz.
“I still need a companion to ask and bask in my brilliance.” He smiles but Yaz looks disgusted “oh come on Yaz! Let's go on an adventure!” He pushes past her, running into the TARDIS. He looks back out through the door, his face suddenly deadly serious again. “Don't make me ask twice. I’d hate to have to bring you down to size.”
— — — —
Inside the TARDIS the Master bounces around the control panel like an excited child. You and Yaz stand to the side watching in shock after what’s just happened.
“She’ll come back right?” Yaz whispers to you but before you can respond the Master spins to face the two of you.
“Ah ah ah, no plotting behind my back girls. That’s not very nice” he pulls a fake, hurt face before pointing to you. “Go to your room.”
“What?” you almost laugh at how ridiculous this is.
“You heard me.”
“You can’t be serious”
“Deadly.”
You look at Yaz who looks back at you just as confused. “Will you be okay?” You ask her.
“She’ll be fine, as long as she cooperates” the Master answers for her “I just need some alone time with my companion.”
Yaz flashes you a small reassuring smile, letting you know she can handle this. You start walking, stopping as you reach the Master.
“You hurt her, I absolutely, categorically, pinkey-promisey will kill you.” You use his early words to warn him and he pulls a mocking face like he’s just looked at an adorable puppy.
— — — —
You can’t relax. Not knowing what the Master is up to, if Yaz is okay, if your mother can ever return. It’s too much. You pace and pace around your room until your legs ache and finally you flop down onto your bed with your head in your hands.
“Hi!”
A sudden familiar voice in your room makes you jump up and see your mom standing in front of you. You blink away the left over tears and realise she’s a hologram.
“Mom?”
“If you're seeing this, then I’m dead.” She states, making you gasp. “Is that a bad way to start? Bit overdramatic?”
She goes on to explain how she’s created an AI hologram version of herself and implanted it using static electricity, but that it should only activate under grave circumstances.
“Are you really dead? Is there any way you could come back?” You ask hopefully.
“If this hologram has presented to you, then yes I am dead.” Your heart sinks, a wave of emotion floods through you. “Woah, my emotional receptors are a bit over sensitive. Apparently you're experiencing extreme sadness right now.”
“I wish you were really here” you sniffle.
“Me too. I’d give you a hug and maybe some ice cream? Sad people need ice cream right?” She questions and you laugh “Ah I’m sensing a slight mood boost, that’s good. Keep that up.”
Suddenly Yaz bursts into the room.
“You see her too!” She acknowledges the holo-doctor before looking at you.
“Where’s the Master?” You ask her, half expecting him to come barging in after her.
“I threw him out”
“You did what?” You laugh in amazement.
“Come on, I’ve got a plan”
— — — —
With her post it notes to guide her, Yaz flew the TARDIS to collect Vinder from the cyberplanet and save Ace she parachuted off the UNIT building. She then explained her plan and dropped you and Ace off under the volcano to stop the Daleks while she and Vinder went off to complete their part of the plan.
You and Ace agreed to split off to distribute her nitro bombs around the volcano, and meet back up in time to escape together. However when you did meet up you were surprised and happy to see a familiar face with her.
“Graham?!” You exclaim, running into his arms and hugging him tightly. “What are you doing here?”
“I’ll explain later, run!” He grabs your hand, pulling you with him as the three of you run from the sound of explosions and angry Daleks and towards to sound of the TARDIS landing. You watch it materialise as you get closer and when the door opens you freeze. Graham and Ace run straight in, leaving you stood staring at your mother who waits at the door for you. She holds her hand out, a look of confusion on her face as to why you’ve stopped.
“Y/N? Come on!”
“Is it really you? Not a hologram, not the Master playing a trick. You're really here?”
She runs out to you, placing her hands gently on your face so she can look at you.
“I’m here”
As you look in her eyes you can tell it’s her. You don't know how you know, you just do. You squeeze her tightly, happy tears springing to your eyes.
“As lovely as this moment is, we really do need to go” she says and you nod, the sound of Daleks behind you reminding what is was you were running from.
She holds your hand as you both run to the safety of the TARDIS. Yaz explains how they brought back the Doctor, while you mother gets to work at the console, flying you and the team away just as the volcano explodes. When the TARDIS next comes to a stop Kate and Tegan come onboard and the Doctor positions everyone around the TARDIS console, giving each person a specific button to press or lever to pull. Nobody fully understand what they’re doing but they do it anyway. When the Doctor has a plan, it’s best not to ask too many questions.
“Vinder, is that your ship on the surface of this cyberplanet?” She asks, still rushing around the TARDIS. She doesn’t give him time to answer, continuing to talk without taking a breath. “Don't speak, no time. Come with me. Another problem to solve. When I say now, activate everything. Chop chop Vinder. Y/N, with me!” She leads Vinder out through the doors and you look at the others, letting out a small laugh.
“She’s still not explaining anything then?” Graham jokes.
“How is it bigger on the inside?” Kate ask you, completely in awe on her surroundings. In all the madness you hadn’t realised this was her first time on the TARDIS. You're about to respond when you hear your mother call your name from outside.
“I’ll let Yaz explain that one” you laugh, patting Yaz on the shoulder as you jog past her and out the door.
— — — —
Outside the Doctor gets on with fixing Vinder’s ship, still happily chatting away mostly to herself while you and Vinder stand watch. He fills you in on life since you last saw him and hugs you goodbye before you have to follow the Doctor as she runs to the Master’s TARDIS. When inside she brings up the video link to her TARDIS and finally explains the plan to you and the others. She gives the word and everyone springs into action. You pull your designated lever, watching as the TARDIS flashes and groans into life.
“Yes!” She cheers “Temporal hop, 106 years, done! Now… for conversion.” She looks up at you “I really hope this works”
She pulls another lever and watches on the screen as the erupting volcanoes transform into something else.
“Did she just freeze volcanoes into steel?” You hear Tegan ask through the video link.
“Yes I did!” The Doctor celebrates “Turning multiple planet-threatening situations into public art! You're welcome”
“Ok, don’t get cocky” Yaz jokes
“Now, one last thing and we’re done”
You both exit the Master’s TARDIS and head for the Qurunx.
“I’m sorry for what was done to you” she speaks to it “I’ll see you released, but I need one more thing from you. Channel your energy down into this planet. Disintegrate everything, and then you’ll be free!”
The Qurunx flashes and begins doing what the Doctor said. A red beam of light bursting down to the surface of the planet and you and your mother stand in awe. As you begin walking back to your TARDIS together, you hear the Master shout from behind you.
“Doctor!”
You both turn to face him with a sigh.
“You lost” The Doctor says “You gambled and you lost. And now your body is failing because of what you put it through.”
“Maybe” he replies “But if I can’t be the Doctor… neither can you”
He raises his hand, clicking the device in it and suddenly the beam from the Qurunx changes direction. Heading straight for you. You freeze, unable to make your body move. The Doctor pushes you out of the way, sending you crashing to the ground a safe distance away as she takes the full force of the beam. She grunts as it knocks her flying and she lands in an unmoving heap.
“MOM!” You shout, scrambling to get up and run to her but your head starts spinning. You touch your hand on your scalp where you realise you hit your head and it comes away red with blood. “Mom?” You call again as you collapse on the ground next to her. You lay there begging your body to move, to help your mother, but everything feels heavy. You hear the sound of footsteps and turn your head to the side. You notice the Master also laying lifeless not to far away. Turning your head the other side you just catch a glimpse of Graham and Yaz running to you as your eyes grow heavy and everything turns black.
— — — —
When you come around, you find yourself back in your bed in the TARDIS and for a moment you wonder if it had all been a dream. You climb out of bed feeling surprisingly okay and rush to the TARDIS console room to see Yaz and the Doctor stood together, talking quietly. Yaz notices you first, wiping her cheek and putting on a smile you can tell is fake. Your mother keeps turned away as Yaz makes her way over to you. As she moves you notice her bags by the door.
“You’re leaving?” You ask in horror and she sighs. “Why? Why now? There’s still so much to see.”
She just looks at you, like she doesn’t know how to explain and eventually says “I’m sorry, I’ve just got to go” before pulling you into a tight hug.
“But-” you think about arguing but decide against it “how are you ever going to be my stepmom if you're not here” you say jokingly, making her laugh. She pulls away to look at you again.
“Keep in touch yeah?” She says and you nod “and look after her”
You both look over at the Doctor who is mindlessly fiddling with buttons on the console.
“I will”
And just like that she left. She refused to say the word ‘goodbye’ to either of you, she just smiled and waved a small wave before grabbing her bags and leaving. You turn to your mom.
“Are you mad?” You ask, a tear spilling down your eye.
“What?” She looks at you, confused by your sudden outburst.
“How can you just let her leave?”
“She’s made up her mind”
“Then change it!” You almost shout “go after her and convince to stay with us! With you!”
“Y/N-” she starts but stops when she sees you’ve noticed her hand is glowing.
“You’re regenerating?” You say quietly “Why?”
“The Qurunx blast, my body took too much damage”
“But- but you're fine!”
“I’ve been holding it off for as long as I could, but its already starting” she starts slowly walking to you.
“How long do you have?”
“About an hour, maybe”
“An hour?! No, that’s not enough time, I need more time!” You start to panic and she places her hands on your arms to ground you. You look up in her eyes “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“You were healing Y/N, you hit your head really hard. You body needed to heal you properly.” She explains but you're only half listening, your mind racing at the realisation that you're losing her.
“I can’t- I can’t lose you” you sob
“Hey!” She make you look at her so she knows you're listening “you are not losing me, okay? I’ll still be here.”
“But you’ll be different, a completely new person.” You take a breath “There’s been so much change recently. With Graham and Ryan leaving, then Dan joining and leaving again. And now Yaz… You’ve been the only constant thought it all. This face…” you put your hands on her cheeks “…has been a reassuring presence through it all.”
“Listen, change can be difficult and scary. But it can also be really exciting! I’ll always be the Doctor. I’ll always be your mother” she pauses “or father? It’s complicated” you both laugh “it doesn’t matter what face I have, I will always love you…” she takes your hand and places it on her chest “…with both my hearts.”
“I love you” You hug tightly for a few minutes.
“At least we’re even now” she says, and you pull away to look at her confused “you took a bullet for me, I took a Qurunx blast for you”
“Yeah I guess you're right. We really should stop jumping in front of each other”
“I can’t make any promises”
“Me neither” you both laugh “so, what do we do now?”
“Hmm.. ice cream?”
The Doctor landed the TARDIS in a beautiful location overlooking the sea. The two of you sat for a while, eating ice cream and laughing as you watched the sun begin to set. You rest your head on her shoulder for a while until eventually she told you it was time.
“I think I need to do this next bit alone” she says, and you nod silently. You can’t help the tears that start to form at the thought of this being the last time you see her like this. “Remember, both hearts” she places her hand on her chest and you place yours on your own.
“Both hearts” you reply before turning and going back in the TARDIS.
You lean against the centre console, allowing yourself to cry and the TARDIS makes a noise, almost like she's trying to comfort you. You smile.
“We’ll be okay”
You can see the bright orange flash through the small windows in the door, signalling the full regeneration is happening. You close your eyes, taking breaths to calm yourself. You know the Doctor will be coming back in soon and the thought of meeting the new face suddenly makes you nervous. You hear the doors open and look up to see a face you recognise well. A face you’ve seen before. One of the very first faces you ever saw…
“Dad?”

not to over-simplify things but I do really wonder how much of Jamie & the Doctor’s fight in Evil could’ve been avoided (not that I want that! it makes a good story!) if the Doctor had been there when Jamie woke up. Honestly I think it’s a pretty brilliant scene, because it happens so quickly and is so at odds with how they usually are, and yet I think it’s still easy to see it from both of their perspectives, as the audience.
Pretty much every point Jamie raises is something we’ve already seen the Doctor express concern over - the stolen Tardis, Kennedy’s death, trusting people in the house, daring to cooperate with the Daleks & the cost that might come at - and we’ve seen him reason through how much his back’s up against the wall and how he has to agree to their demands, at least for the time being. But while the Doctor’s time at Maxible’s mansion has been spent dealing with mad scientists and their hubris, and the Daleks, and realizing what a precarious position they’re all in, Jamie’s been having a totally different experience - and, ostensibly, a much more mundane one, but you get the sense that he’d much rather be dealing with a straightforward monster than a social drama any day.
He wakes up and the first person he interacts with is Molly, who he gets along with, but she’s still joking around and laughing about how much he must’ve had to drink and acting, in Jamie’s eyes, absurdly calmly - and then just as easily admits that the Doctor’s off with the one recognizable name she’s mentioned, and he’s not someone Jamie’s inclined to trust. He goes on with the period-drama farce for a little while, then gets attacked, dragged to the stables, and meets Terrrall - who’s off-putting and unlikable, but just seems like a mean and eccentric man of a higher class. The Doctor does come to his aid then, but he can’t explain any of the strangeness Jamie’s witnessed - doesn’t even seem particularly interested in it, actually. He checks Jamie’s head but he’s almost dismissive of what he says - and then tells him that the Daleks are here, and although Jamie has yet to meet them himself, he obviously knows what that means, and honestly, I get the sense that whatever the Doctor told him about them sounded a lot more serious than how Jamie sees him acting right now. He’s probably envisioning a hostile alien takeover of the house, not the  complicated and slow plot the Daleks have made an exception for in this story, and so the Doctor doing anything other than running from the place and openly devising strategies against them (and enlisting Jamie’s help!) has to look suspicious in his eyes - but I’m sure he’s not considering that the Doctor could be made to work with them at this point, so instead he probably just worries he’s been lied to, and fed a dismissive kind of bogeyman that the Doctor doesn’t even have the decency to pretend about appropriately, so it becomes an insult to his intelligence, too.
We don’t see how they part, but the next time we see them, the Doctor’s speaking to Waterfield alone, and Jamie only overhears the part of their dialogue that sounds suspicious, even though the Doctor probably said it in an attempt to protect Jamie. Then they continue to not talk, while the Doctor goes and continues to argue with/be threatened by the Daleks, and the untrustworthy man from the stables is back, and Victorian social pressures are demanding Jamie be civil with him, because apparently he’s engaged to the daughter of the master of the house - who is himself still hanging around with Doctor and the guy Jamie had pegged for a thief and a murderer back in 1966.
He’s by now 100% convinced that nobody in a position of power in this house is even slightly trustworthy, because even if they aren’t personally terrible, they don’t even blink at the ones who are violent and unpredictable. Then the Doctor appears again, interrupting Jamie’s conversation with the maid with a joke that underlines how unfit Jamie is for dealing with these people and this era, while continuing to appear perfectly at home in it himself.
Who wouldn’t be ticked off, and already feeling a bit betrayed by the guy you’re used to confiding in, the one who’s usually so willing to explain things to you and loop you in so you can tackle problems together, who’s very obviously not doing that now? And who, in the Doctor’s position of needing Jamie to go do something dangerous without asking for additional details, could see him like this and not think the way to pull this off safely is to convince Jamie that he’s going after Victoria for his own reasons, rather than alluding to a very complicated plot he isn’t allowed to explain to him? It’s a perfect storm, and they both know exactly what to say to get the other riled up - but rather than responding seriously to Jamie’s accusations, the Doctor takes it all in stride, which of course only makes it look worse to Jamie. One or two more patronizing remarks is literally all it takes to have him striding off, completely unaware that he’s doing exactly what the Doctor wants, because as angry as he is right now, and as little confidence he has in who to trust, the Doctor never has manipulated him like this before, so he doesn’t have reason to second-guess the argument itself, even though that was the most crafted & performative thing of all.
I guess I’m just a still a little pleasantly surprised by how well it works, even after all this time. Jamie and the Doctor had a legitimate fight in which they were both wrong and both right, in which one is being totally manipulative and the other is far too angry to listen to the points that actually are completely truthful - and as strange as that is for them, neither of their characters had to be woefully misrepresented for it to happen. Considering how infrequently plots in this era rely on the relationships of the main characters to play a very large role, Evil seems to handle that situation impressively effectively. It even draws attention to the brighter sides of their relationship, in a way - because the Doctor’s vagueness here is hardly out of character, and even in his anger Jamie doesn’t try to claim that it’s unlike him. This is an acceptable way for the Doctor to behave, but at the same time it’s an evasiveness that Jamie is not personally used to being on the receiving end of at all, so the fact that the Doctor is usually especially forthcoming and honest with Jamie in particular, even when he isn’t with other people, is brought right to the forefront even as they’re arguing with each other.

Prompt: "Out of time"
Rating: G
Summary: Liv Chenka has been dealt a rough hand in life. On Nixyce VII she is good and ready to give up but as the world seems darkest, a woman comes into her life - or rather into her dreams. For the longest time, Liv doesn’t know what to make of the mystery woman with a lovely British accent and comforting presence, but as she continues her journey and joins the Doctor, she feels like she is getting closer to her. It's almost as if there is someone waiting for her in her future, as hard as that might be to believe. Perhaps there is such a thing as destiny. Perhaps she has a soulmate.
TW: There is an element that could be interpreted as MCD though it's not intended as such.
Meet Me Where We Begin
The first time I dreamed of her was the first time I’d recalled anything from the depth of sleep in a very long time. I didn’t use to sleep much then and when I did, I would be too exhausted to dream. I would simply collapse on the lumpy mattress that I’d had the misfortune of calling my bed, hoping the plastic roof would hold out the night. I had been doused in cold water plenty of times as the sheeting gave way to the heavy rain and it was an unpleasant way to wake up every time.
I remember wondering, even in my dream, if someone had come to seek me out for medical attention, calling to me from beyond the beat-up door, hanging off just one hinge, that kept me from the cruel outside world that was Nixyce VII. But it didn’t make sense as not many knew my name, even less my first name, and that was what she was calling from some distant corner of my mind.
“Liv.”
I could barely make her out but her voice was distinctly female, soft and melodic with an enchanting quality and soft lilt of an accent that I would later learn belonged in the middle of Earth’s 20th century. There was a hue about her like sunshine, which I presumed to be her hair, blonde and radiant.
“Hello, Liv,” she said. “I’m so very glad to meet you.”
And as I woke to the harsh reality of my existence, the cold nights of Nixyce VII, the terror that was Dalek occupation and the crushing loneliness that my commitment to helping people seemed to entail, I felt hope again for the first time. It was almost as if I knew there was someone out there in the universe, wanting to reach out to me. In a strange way that I can’t describe, I felt like I knew her already, I felt close to her, regardless of being so very far apart. And I knew I would find her one day. I wouldn’t be alone forever.
Every night after that I would wrap myself up in my thin blanket and close my eyes, hoping to see her again. Most of my nights remained dreamless, but sometimes, very rarely and oddly, whenever I felt the most lonely, I would hear her voice in my ears and feel a presence and a longing that matched the desire that was slowly building in my heart.
My dreams made my life bearable and when I left Nixyce VII behind, I felt like I was finally getting closer to her.
When I started travelling with the Doctor, I started dreaming a whole lot more. There were several reasons for it, I think. For one, I wasn’t as desperately tired as I used to be on Nixyce VII. I would still be tired from the adventures we’d have but it was an entirely different kind of exhaustion: the good kind. The kind of exhaustion you experience when you’ve given your all and come away having made a difference. More often than not, while on Nixyce VII, I hadn’t made a difference at all, despite exerting myself beyond what was reasonable or wise. That changed with the Doctor. We were making a difference and saving lives.
Another reason would have been that we were experiencing things beyond my wildest imaginations. Not just different planets but different times too! It was a lot to take in, and in my dreams I would process and my reawakening imagination would run wild after years of hardship.
And yet another reason - and this is what the Doctor said - was that the TARDIS was sentient. One time, the Doctor even asked if she had bothered me in the night when I had recounted a curious dream. Looking back, I don’t think it was the TARDIS exactly. I think it was the fact that I was in a space that was sensitive to time. I found myself wondering - no, hoping - that maybe, there was more to my curious dreams, something beyond wishful thinking. I almost felt like there was a prophetic quality to them and the feeling of connection, of longing, intensified.
“I feel closer to you here, Liv,” she would say when she returned to my dreams. “This place feels like home.”
I wanted to ask if she meant the TARIDS or if - perhaps, so I hoped - me. I used to think she was merely a pleasant dream, the sum of my wishes, but the more time I spent with her in my dreams, the more I started to believe her a real person. One whose identity I was desperate to learn. I thought, perhaps, she was an angel, if you were inclined to believe in that sort of thing. Or some entity from this infinitely wonderful universe that I had started to travel, something far more than I could yet comprehend. Or perhaps, she was just a woman like me. I allowed myself to entertain the thought as I lay on the large double bed in my room in the TARDIS, so much happier and content than I had been in a long time, but still alone.
I wondered if, maybe, she was a person I was yet to meet. Maybe, there was such a thing as a soulmate. Someone waiting for you somewhere out there, somewhere in space and time, and if you wanted to believe in fate, why not believe that you would know her on sight and feel their presence even before you’d met? It was a fanciful notion but something that warmed my heart in the lonely hours and when she visited me in my dreams, I would bask in the sunshine that was her hair, so warm and radiant. I was finding it easier to make it out, it was long and flowed in what felt like a summer breeze that surrounded our meetings.
Her warmth and the silly hope that there was someone, somewhere waiting for me, almost made me forget about the hardships of life. In my dreams we were together. It was only when I woke up, alone in my bed in the TARDIS, that I wished she would hurry up because rationally I knew I was on borrowed time.
I think, in a way, I was like a smitten teenager, in love with a notion, a fairytale, an idea. Only she felt so very real to me. But I was still a woman of science and as much as I wanted to believe in my soulmate, I also knew people would laugh at me if I told them, so I didn’t. Not for a very long time. Not until my dear friend Molly needed my care and for me to keep her spirits up. I was trying to make her feel better, give her hope that the Doctor would come for us and save us, that there was a future left for us and what I wished it would entail.
And Molly being Molly, she made me confess to it all. So I told her of the woman that had been stealing into my dreams and stolen my heart. The woman whose voice I knew so well and whose presence I craved like air. And of the fears that were creeping into my subconscious with every passing day in which we were closer in my dreams but still as far apart in reality.
“I think I… I think I’m gonna run out of time before I meet her…” I had told Molly and I must have sounded genuinely scared as she gave me a compassionate smile, despite the fact that she was the one on the hospital bed.
“What do you mean?” She asked and I sighed, watching the anxious movement of my hands as I wrung them together.
“I’m dying, Molly, you know that…” I reminded her and she scowled at me like she did at people that were talking nonsense.
“You don’t know that though, isn’t that what you always said? It could happen at any time?” She questioned and I just shrugged. “Well, it could happen thirty, forty years from now.”
“I like your optimism, acting like the Daleks or the Master are not just going to kill me eventually if the illness doesn’t get to me,” I chuckled. I did appreciate her positive lookout, it’s what kept people alive. Not giving up, fighting against all odds and holding on to hope for the future were vital in any healing process.
“It’s stubbornness more than optimism. Us Irish, we’re a stubborn lot,” she grinned and reached for my hand as I laughed:
“And you more so than most, I know.”
“What is she like then?” She asked and gave my hand a squeeze.
“Hm?” I looked up, confused.
“Come on, indulge me,” she smiled warmly. “We haven’t got much else to laugh and be happy about. What of these visions you’re having?”
“Visions? I don’t know about that… I don’t know what they are,” I admitted, casting my eyes down.
“Dreams then? Hopes?” Molly prompted and I found myself smiling.
“Wishes, maybe,” I considered. “Fantastical dreams that-”
“Well?” She demanded and I sighed. Clearly my vague explanation of the dreams I had been having hadn’t been enough to satisfy her curiosity.
“I still don’t know who she is…” I explained and felt almost embarrassed for it. I felt like, after all this time, I should, but I didn’t. At least not in a way that I could describe and that would make sense to her. I didn’t know her in my head but I knew her in my heart. So I decided to tell her what I did know. “But she’s got the most lovely voice. Soft and gentle, eloquent and intelligent and…”
“Not like me then,” Molly interrupted and I gave her arm a playful slap.
“Shut up.”
“Anything else?” She pushed on.
“Blonde hair…” I answered and she grinned:
“Are you sure you’re not just dreaming about me?”
“Is there like a syndrome where the patient falls in love with their doctor or-” I could give as good as I got and Molly grimaced at the insinuation.
“Okay, no!”
“Well, we’re in agreement then!” I gave back with an affectionate smirk. I adored Molly but romance was not in the cards for us.
“What happens in your dreams?” She asked then and leaned back against the bed, watching me with curious bright eyes. I knew I couldn’t lie and I felt like I needed to tell someone, so I did.
“She just… I don’t know… she is trying to reach me, I think?” It was hard to explain as nothing really happened in my dreams. She would just be there, and we would talk, not much but enough, and she would remain unreachable as neither of us could move. And yet, I felt like we had gotten closer. Maybe the time was approaching when we would finally meet. It was a thought that made my heart beat faster. “I keep hearing her voice in my head, she’s calling to me, saying my name, as if she knows me, as if she’s trying to reach me, across… I don’t know, time? Across space? Across whatever it is that’s keeping us apart and… I feel like I already know her,” I mused, trying to make sense of it not only to Molly but to myself. “I know that’s crazy, I know I don’t. Believe me, if I had met her already, I would know, I would-” I sighed. It was all I wished for. “I think it’s one of those things the Doctor would talk about. Events ripping along their timeline, back and forth, maybe it’s a vision, maybe it’s nothing at all, maybe it’s something alien and dangerous or- I just don’t know but... what I do know is that I’m dying to meet her.”
“And I’m sure you will,” Molly pulled me out of my thoughts with a tight, encouraging squeeze of my hand and I smiled a doubtful smile.
“Do you really think so? You don’t think I’m being ridiculous or- Dreams don’t come true,” I voiced my doubts, my fears that were even more profound than the realisation that I didn’t have much time left. The fear that, maybe, I was making the whole thing up.
“All I know is that I’m a girl from Ireland in what you’d call the distant past. And I’m being used by aliens to bring about universal domination, being tended to by a doctor lady from the far future, and our only hope is a weird bloke in a magic box. I think believing in fate and visions is not much of a stretch.”
I couldn’t argue with her. I wouldn’t, when I knew in my heart that my soulmate was real. I felt it.
After Molly was gone, she gave me comfort in my grief and hope.
“It’s not long now until we’ll meet,” she told me one night and my heart started racing as she smiled, radiant as always, and I committed every detail of her delicate features to memory. If I was to meet her I wanted to be sure I recognised her, I wanted to be certain, and I wanted to run my hands through her beautiful hair, sometimes blonde, sometimes almost ginger. I wanted to grasp her face and run my fingers over her high cheekbones, caress her pale skin and press my lips to hers. I wanted to make her feel the fullness of my love for her that I had yet to understand but felt so very keenly. “Soon, Liv, soon,” she assured me with a warm smile. “I miss you so much.”
The first time I saw her, all I could utter was a stunned “Hi.” as she scowled at me and the Doctor and there was not an ounce of recognition in her bright eyes. It winded me, more than I cared to admit, when she questioned what we were doing in her office and it occurred to me that maybe only I had been having these visions and she didn’t. And I couldn’t help but wonder if that meant she wouldn’t feel about me the way I already felt about her.
It was the strangest mix of emotions as I realised that, yes, there had been a point to my dreams, that the wonderful person I had been waiting for existed, but we had yet to get to know each other. It started with me finally learning her name.
Helen Sinclair.
And her voice sounded exactly as it had in my dreams. Melodic and lovely, even in her annoyance with our break-in. Her eyes shone with intelligence and kindness, despite the scowl she observed us with. And her lips were as kissable as I recalled them, though pressed to a thin line rather than a radiant smile she’d often gifted me with. She was, without a doubt, the woman from and of my dreams. Somehow, in this mad and wonderful universe, we had been thrown together and I would not let the opportunity pass me by as I realised, against all odds and in line with what Molly had said, that fate had intervened. I wasn’t dying anymore, I had time, and I would use it to learn everything there was to learn about her, so that maybe we could get to the point I felt we were meant to be at already.
And I did get to know her; and I was proven right. Every moment I spent with Helen reaffirmed the feelings I had harboured for so long. She was the realisation not only of my dreams but also everything I had ever wished for. I had never believed in destiny, in fate, in soulmates… but she made me believe, even if I was yet to find out whether she felt the same way.
She had left my dreams that seemed so lifeless and dreary in comparison to the bright present with her. Now that I had found her, I had no need of dreams anymore.
It was a cruel twist of fate when she was taken from me before I had the chance to tell her how I felt. When she flew a TARDIS into the resonance engine and was torn to the Time Winds, into the depth of the Vortex, to a place I couldn’t follow.
I thought I would die of a broken heart, of grief, as it was a feeling more destructive than anything I had ever experienced before. I mourned the loss of the most precious thing in my life that I had never been able to call my own, only in my dreams. The world went dark around me and I forgot how to breathe as the Doctor explained what had happened. Caleera, the Sonomancer, had given Helen her powers and Helen - brave, clever, beautiful Helen Sinclair - had chosen to sacrifice herself so the universe would survive.
I broke down, I collapsed to my knees where I was as all strength and will to carry on abandoned my body. For so long now, my life, my very existence, had evolved around her. I didn’t understand why the universe would go to such lengths to show me who the love of my life was, only to then take her from me with the potential of our future together unfulfilled. There was a part of me that wished I had never known who she would become to me. Maybe it would have softened the blow, maybe I wouldn’t be weeping for the things that would never be, but I was.
I had lost my soulmate and my life didn’t feel worth having anymore.
“Liv?” Her voice sounded in my subconscious as it used to in my dreams and I sobbed. Her voice had been a part of me for so long, I couldn’t believe I would never hear it again. “Liv, it’s okay,” she soothed as if to comfort me, as if anything could ever comfort me from my loss. “Look at me,” she prompted gently and for a moment I wanted to believe she was truly there. I looked up, almost out of instinct and through tears, I saw a shape. Beautiful and radiant, welcoming and warm. Helen smiled a sad smile and I couldn’t tell if my brain was playing tricks on me or if somehow, miraculously, she had returned.
“Helen?” I breathed hoarsely but scrambled to my feet anyway, just on the off-chance…
“Liv, is everything okay? Liv, what-” But I couldn’t hear the Doctor, Helen’s voice filled my ears as it had done so many times in my sleep and there she was, holding her hand out to me.
“You’re alive? You’ve come back, you-” I broke off and wiped the tears from my eyes, hoping to see more clearly, to make sure it wasn’t a trick of the light or my desperate mind.
“I’ve missed you so much,” she gave me a wistful smile. Her hair seemed redder now, more ginger than blonde and her eyes were deeper and even more beautiful than before, if that was possible. As if she had seen so much since we had last met.
“You’re so… beautiful,” I couldn’t think of anything else to say. There was so much I wanted to tell her, to express my love for her, that I hadn’t been able to say yet, and so the words simply spilled out of me. “I can’t live without you…”
“Take my hand and we can be together, forever,” Helen took a step towards me and extended her hand. “I have looked everywhere for you. From the beginning to the end of time.” She smiled and I took unsteady steps on weak legs. I had to get to her before the universe could take her away again. “You had yet to meet me when I found you but I’m here now, Liv. Come with me, and we will be together, always.”
I had a moment of clarity as the whirlwind of emotions and the mist of swirling time cleared. I think it was the part of Helen that remained unchangeably human, her kind, compassionate nature that refused to lure me to my death without having me understand. She wasn’t just Helen anymore, she never had been while I had known her in my dreams. Helen had become the Sonomancer, her essence scattered through time and she had been looking for me. She had found me on Nixyce VII and whiled away her time in my dreams until I had met her past, her human, self. And now, her journey had come to a close once more and she had returned to her beginning and what would inevitably become my end. I had made the decision already.
She was like the Red Lady but infinitely more alluring as I had nothing but love for her in my heart, and she held out her hand to me, an invitation as much as a death sentence: an end and a beginning, or so I hoped. It wouldn’t be alive but it wouldn’t be dead either. What we would be was together.
“Yes,” I grasped her hand and she smiled.
“LIV!” The Doctor’s voice called from far away but I didn’t look around, I couldn’t, I was caught in Helen’s gaze and in her arms as she pulled me close.
“I love you, Liv,” she declared softly as I basked in the closeness I had longed for for so long. “I’m sorry I never got to tell you when we were alive…”
“I love you too, Helen. I always have,” I answered and looked up, content and sure in my decision as Gallifrey around us seemed to melt away.
“We will be together now,” Helen smiled and there were tears in her eyes, of grief and gratitude in equal measures. She leaned down and pressed her lips to mine. I kissed her back in the long awaited fulfilment of our destiny and I felt lighter than I ever had before.
“Don’t let me go,” I pleaded softly and rested my forehead against hers.
She pulled me closer still and whispered:
“We will be together from the beginning to the end of time and that is how long I have loved you for.”
And then, the Time Winds tore us away, out of time and into the unknown, into our forever.

Thoughts from my Classic Who watch, this time season 11. (Amy Pond voice) Posh fistycuff man, goodbye.
Tumblr media
I’ve read of quite a few Doctor Who writers saying that Three and Sarah are their favourite Tardis team, which has surprised me since I thought Sarah was more well-known as Four’s companion. But I can see now why Sarah’s early stories would’ve had such an impact on them, and why she went on to be one of the show’s most popular characters. She’s immediately likable; witty and smart and funny and charming. The banter and joking between her and the Doctor is endless fun. It’s hilarious that she’s first introduced to him under a false name because she’s currently infiltrating a military establishment for a news story, absolute icon. And honestly her occasionally in-your-face feminism is so refreshing after the total disrespect that Jo sometimes got. The rest of The Time Warrior is great too. It feels like a modern episode of the show- the script is tight, there are lots of good and funny character moments, and it’s a neat introduction for the Sontarans. Sorry to go back to talking about Sarah again, but I can’t believe she escaped from the occupied castle with another prisoner in there, befriended some local aristocracy, and then broke back in to the first castle to kidnap the Doctor out of it! And all this without the Doctor’s help or even explanations that she had time-travelled! Once again I must say, absolute icon!!
Invasion of the Dinosaurs was definitely an interesting one! Firstly, I’ll always be amused that the title was shortened in the first episode to preserve a twist in this story and this story only, as opposed to every story ever with ‘Dalek’ in the title that used “it’s the Daleks!!” as the cliffhanger to part one. Secondly, is this the most Disaster Movie that Classic Who has ever got? I was actually shocked by the bloody corpse of the looter that they showed at one point. Now, back to Sarah. She really knows how to accept things and roll with them, it says volumes how quickly she followed the Doctor’s lead and smiled for her mugshots 😂 I once saw a post describing that as the first time she got arrested, but given how she met the Doctor (not to mention her general demeanour), I find that somewhat hard to believe. And honestly she basically wraps up the whole plot of this story herself. While the Doctor and the Brig are busy first being hoodwinked by Yates and then dealing with the Doctor being (badly) framed, Sarah does actual investigative research, finds the people responsible for the situation, and leads a revolt against them. She wouldn’t have needed the Doctor at all if her gang had done the smart thing at the end and moved the evil scientist away from the doomsday lever. As for the other characters, this story really gets what makes the UNIT family fun. There’s so many great gags with them, especially the scene where the Doctor gets fed up with everyone distracting him, which ends with him looking about as distressed as you ever see him (and with Jon Pertwee’s fantastic face, that’s saying something). I’m glad it was this story that involved Yates’ betrayal, because it ties his point of view back to his past experiences, and makes it very clear throughout that he’s still holding onto his morals even as he betrays everyone. Very ironically, this is maybe the most likable Yates has ever been for me, it breaks your heart a little when the one thing he seems most certain of is that his life doesn’t matter. I did start to worry that this story and Operation Golden Age was a reaction to The Green Death and was arguing against the strong environmentalist themes in that story. But thankfully that wasn’t the case at all, it never goes down that path, and actually makes a point at the end to say “saving the environment is extremely important, just don’t be an eco-fascist about it.” Also, Sarah being separated and ending in a colony vastly far away from the Doctor in time and space while he mucks around in modern-day England definitely feels like inspiration for the Interference novels. That subplot happens to Fitz, except in that case its actually real, and it only loops back round to the Doctor’s plot with heartbreaking consequences.
Those nasty Daleks are back again! And this time the story isn’t really about them, even though they still eventually become the most imposing threat, which I think is a nice balance that Death to the Daleks managed to strike. The beginning of the story was proper spooky, with all the darkness and mist. The TARDIS’ safety being invaded always feels unnerving, so Sarah seeking sanctuary in it before finding that a creature had found its way into the new shadows of the console room was really creepy. And shout-out to Elizabeth Sladen for being a hell of an actress and making all of Sarah’s terror very believable, even when I think the script and directing was probably doing her a disservice by making her scream and freak out quite a bit. The horror of the planet was undercut a bit for me when it was revealed that the aggressors were a tribe of native species that veered a little too close to Colony In Space territory for me. I started to think that maybe I’d been quick to judge when it was revealed that there were other Exxilons who were more open-minded than the tribe that worshipped the city, that they were the remnants of a galactic empire, and when the antagonistic Galloway made a bigoted comment that sounded very self-aware of the show. But then it turned around and out of nowhere said that ancient Peruvians couldn’t possibly have built their buildings without alien intervention, so I think I’m going to go ahead and chalk this story up to another reason Classic Who should be banned from using the word “primitive” until it learns its lesson. Finally, I love a good puzzle rooms plot, but the fact that so many people literally starved to death in a room where the puzzle was a maze that looked like it could be in a children’s puzzle book made me laugh. And so did the cliffhanger which was just a dramatic zoom on a pattern on the floor. I adore a Living City, but I don’t think this story used the trope as much as it could.
I can see why Peladon was popular enough to revisit, it was a very strong setting last season. And The Monster of Peladon was okay, but in my eyes it didn’t live up to its predecessor because it didn’t do some of the things that most interested me in Curse: it didn’t have a bunch of interesting new alien species, and its twist was that the Ice Warriors were the villains. Again. Although, admittedly, Ice Lord Azaxyr being held back by four strong men then throwing them all off at the end looked cool as heck. Also, Monster is 2 episodes longer than Curse. I think I get more easily bored by 6-parters after 60s Who than I did during the show’s early years, maybe because I was kept entertained by the charming quaintness of ‘60s television, I don’t know. Also also, Aggedor is cute as heck again in this, and it’s so sad that he dies 😭 I should’ve checked Does The Aggedor Die Dot Com. I love how the Doctor sees a character in need of some Womens Liberation and immediately refers her to Sarah jsdlkfj. Everyone knows about Sarah saying “there’s nothing only about being a girl,” but at the end of the story she also tells the queen that “there's nothing only about being a miner, your Majesty, any more there was about being a girl.” Sarah Jane said intersectional feminism! Another line I didn’t realise Sarah said was when she quoted what the Doctor has apparently said to her, that “while there’s life...” before trailing off. That’s some great foreshadowing.
I’m glad I’m not more arachnophobic than the average person, because Planet of the Spiders has some Magnus Archives-esque shit near the start, when the Doctor projects the recorded thoughts of a dead man and gets a screen full of spiders, and when some meditating men physically manifest the horrors of their unconscious mind and it’s a giant spider. Overall, the story is very intriguing because of its sudden interest in Buddhism, which gives it a good vibe for the Third Doctor’s send-off I think. I did like that it addressed the Doctor’s faults, because that’s something I think Three’s era sometimes failed to do to its detriment, even if phrasing it as the Doctor’s greed was a bit weird. Once again, Sarah jumps into the plot quicker than the Doctor. It’s extremely interesting how chummy she is with Yates at the very start of the story, calling him Mike and getting driven around the countryside by him alone, when Invasion of the Dinosaurs was her first meeting with him and apparently he hasn’t talked to the Doctor or the Brigadier since then. It makes me think that there’s definite room for a short story featuring Sarah and Yates between the two stories, maybe with Sarah sympathising with him after being on the same end of the Golden Age’s brainwashing as he was. Speaking of Yates, it tugged at the heartstrings that evidentally everyone thought it was best not to tell Jo about Yate’s betrayal (though it was lovely to hear from her for Three’s final story). And speaking of untold stories with Sarah, it’s interesting that there’s a 3 week gap for her between the final scene and the rest of Planet of the Spiders, but apparently no Doctor Who media has dipped into that time. If this franchise is going to milk stories out of the gaps in episodes, they should look at the ones that would give interesting character pieces! Okay this post has already become so long. For the Third Doctor’s last story, let’s do five rapid final points. -There’s some good villains in this one! Lupton and his spider outcast friend both being fallible and (for lack of a better term) human was engaging and well demonstrated when they both started causing each other pain in a childish attempt to get their way. Lupton’s gang really felt like a bunch of normal people who didn’t actually set out to be the villains, and regular spiders given superintelligence is at the same time funny and scary, and well used. -Poor Professor Clegg is such a tragedy. He’s made so sympathetic in his few scenes before being killed off, which was basically the result of the Doctor roping him into doing some trials. I like that the Doctor admits to feeling guilty about that too. That’s good writing that is. -The Brigadier is maybe used for comic relief a bit too much, and is painted as a bit of a buffoon during his short screentime. Oh, I do love that he calls Harry Sullivan at one point, that’s a great little easter egg for people watching with future knowledge. -I’ve always found it appropriate for Jon Pertwee that there was such a sprawling vehicle chase sequence during episode 2. Including Bessie v Whomobile, Dawn of Justice. And on the topic of vehicles, it also feels appropriate that after all the work the TARDIS has had done this era, the Doctor refers to her as being alive here. I love the headcanon/basically canon that it was the Doctor’s time taking apart and rebuilding a lot of the TARDIS during his exile that really made him realise how much of a living thing his ship is, and how close a bond they share. -And finally, as always, the Doctor and Sarah’s chemistry is wonderful. A particular highlight is when they’re both trapped in spiderweb and making very silly jokes to pass the time while their fellow prisoner looks on in disbelief. Also, of course, their fantastically-acted farewell as the Doctor dies 💔

you didn’t like this.
the doctor, your johnny, walked funnily around the tardis’ console… he was smiling, but it seemed to be for your benefit.
“johnny? what’s going on?” you were frightened- not for the first time in your travels with the doctor, but this fright was new. you’d been frightened for him before, of course, but this fright was for him, and… of him.
“johnny… i always liked that name ever since you gave it, you know that? ever since you gave it!” he grinned. “it fit this face.”
you felt small, hugging your arms tightly around yourself.
this face. he said this face, which meant… oh no.
“doctor… i don’t like this. tell me it isn’t happening.”
“what happens if you die, doctor?”
he was faced away from you, fiddling with the console, but he froze. his back was tensed.
the pair of you had just returned from a freezing planet overrun with invisible beasts that slowly were picking off the residents of a small village. you were there for weeks. when things took a turn for the worst, your extremities had begun to turn blue.
you were swaddled in blankets that the doctor had wrapped you in, himself. he had been panicked, terrified, mumbling to himself that you’d be okay. despite the fact that you two hadn’t known each other for a few months, the doctor was fond of you. very, very fond of you.
“i don’t… die,” he said, slowly, as if easing you into the oncoming explanation, back still turned.
you leaned forward, grasping the mug of scalding tea in your hands.
“you don’t?”
“no, not in the way humans would. not in the way you would.”
“you’re confusing me again,” you admitted.
he turned, smiling warmly, but you knew he was being evasive. “why are you asking me this?”
you bit your lip, avoiding his gaze.
“i was scared. that- that thing-!”
“the lovan,” he corrected.
“yes, the lovan. sorry. just… it was… about to hurt you, to kill you. and i’ve been scared before, that you’d get too hurt to keep on. but i don’t know if you can? i mean, maybe you have two lives? like a cat?” you were rambling, but he smiled, amused.
“like a cat?”
you nodded. “yeah, y’know, because they say cats have nine lives.”
“i met a cat with nine lives once…”
he was becoming distracted, so you continued. “i just mean that maybe since you have two hearts, can you die twice? ugh, i sound stupid.”
he chuckled, leaning down to become eye level with you. he was so damn tall.
“i don’t have two lives… i have twelve, actually!” he exclaimed, standing and running around to flip a lever on the console.
this left you more confused than before.
you opened your mouth to speak, but closed it as the doctor continued, running around the console like mad.
“timelords have a special sort of defense in case a body is damaged badly. we regenerate into another body, another form. the thing about it,” he paused, tapping his fingers, thinking. “it’s a new body, as well as a new personality. like a whole different person, but i’m still me.”
“that doesn’t make sense,” you mumbled, suddenly concerned. you shivered, and you knew it wasn’t from the cold that had somehow been clinging to your body for hours.
he looked over, his brow creased. “don’t worry, y/n. i don’t plan on regenerating anytime soon! i quite like this face, don’t you?”
you ignored him, lost in thought.
the doctor took his usual long strides over, once again crouching to your level.
“what’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?”
under other circumstances, you would have blushed. the doctor was a flirt, and it took more effort than you’d like not to fall for it, fall for him.
but you were worried.
“i don’t want you to die,” you whispered, finally having the courage to meet his eyes. those old, old, sad eyes, set in his young face.
“i just told you, silly, we don’t die.”
“you know what i mean,” you grumbled, pulling your knees to your chin. “i just…,” you knew it was always easier to not keep secrets with the doctor, though he seemed bent on keeping some from you.
but you supposed every relationship had its negatives.
“i don’t want to be the reason you… regenerate,” you said the words carefully, eyes trained on your knees. “johnny,” your little nickname for him was starting to stick. “your life isn’t expendable. you save lives! you, save planets! i know i help, but i’m just… me. important, i know, you’ve shown me that… but i’m not... you.”
suddenly you felt his warm hand grab your chin. he smiled, his eyes equally warm, though swimming with the familiar sadness. how many times has he heard that, you wondered. enough to know it was true, surely.
“not to me,” was his simple reply. and quicker than wind, he was up again.
“i know a very peaceful planet we could visit! nothing but meadows and a nice breeze- after we finish getting you warmed up, anyway! what do you say?”
smiling, despite yourself, you nodded. a silent promise rang through your head.
‘whatever it takes, i won’t be the reason.’
and there you were, the reason on legs.
as johnny spasmed with pain, it fully hit you, just as the dalek he saved you from hit him with its’ beam.
“no,” you whispered, walking towards him, feeling dazed. “doctor, please-!”
“call me johnny,” he told you, sternly. “for my last few minutes with this face, i want to be your johnny.”
“no!” you shouted, tears stinging at your eyes. “you can’t! it’s my fault, i promised it wouldn’t be my fault!” it was selfish to say, and even more selfish that you didn’t want him to change. he would still be alive, still be him, he had said.
but he wouldn’t be.
“i’ll still be me,” he assured you, as if reading your mind, trapping your wrists in his hands, steadying them. you were shaking, scared out of your wits. “let me look at you… we really don’t have much time left… thank god we’re landed this time, though, eh?”
“stop it, please…” you intended it to be a scream, but you couldn’t do more than shakily whisper. “please,” you begged. “don’t change.”
“you’ll remember our adventures,” he smiled, suddenly seeming oblivious to your pain. “and you’ll make new ones too, with whoever comes out. i doubt he’ll want you to leave, y/n, you incredible thing. always brave, always smart… my y/n. you’re a gem.”
you could see the sincerity and compassion in his eyes and you could hear it in his voice, clear as day. because you knew him as well as you could, as well as he let you. he was your doctor. though he belonged to the stars and all of time in space, he was still your’s. your johnny. who you loved. fiercely and purely.
he suddenly backed away, releasing your hands, spasming again with a gold light.
“doctor!”
“johnny!” he exclaimed back. “this is johnny. and don’t come near,” he warned. “i work hard to keep you safe, healthy, and whole… i don’t want any regeneration energy to ruin you.”
it was quiet enough for a pin to drop.
“johnny-,” you broke the silence, trying to think of something, anything, to say. you knew the end was near, for him.
he shushed you, once again walking closer. he cupped your face.
“i know.”
you smiled, sadly. he did know. and so did you.
“promise me something, and don’t frown, i want to see that smile,” he said, tapping your nose. “promise you’ll help him. help me. be there.”
the tears were flowing freely now, and you nodded, trying to smile, not trusting yourself to speak.
“it’s coming now… goodbye, y/n.”
with that, his face and hands exploded with beams of gold light, forcing you to look away, hands covering your eyes, becoming wet with the tears and sobs escaping you. you wailed, unable to stop the pain. you wanted it to stop. you wanted him to be joking with you.
you wanted johnny.
suddenly, the sound of your tears was echoing through the tardis, the noise of the doctor’s regeneration having ceased.
sniffling, you uncovered your eyes to be met with a man, stood in a suit much too long for him, staring at you.
you felt very faint all of a sudden, looking at his wide smile and long blonde hair. his ears were pierced to hell, and his eyes had a mischievous glint. he was staring at you in a way that made you feel scared. exposed.
his hands flew to his hair and he laughed, loudly.
“it’s long! it’s fluffy!” he stumbled forward, towards you, but in a way a child learning to walk would.
“legs are shorter,” he mused. now he seemed to be looking through you rather than at you. “this is-!”
you were then taken aback by the stranger passing out and crumpling to the floor.
that’s when you began to cry again.

Praise Him | Loki x Female Reader
Loki (Marvel) x Doctor Who
Tumblr media
Getting tired of the tension on his ship, the Doctor threatens to take you all home if you don’t go on an adventure with him but the TARDIS gets thrown off course and you end up trapped in a hotel where the personal fears and bad dreams of every visitor are hidden behind each room.
Part Twelve | Part Fourteen | Chapter Index
Words: 8.8k
Warnings: death and angst
Read on AO3
A few days had passed since your argument with your auntie and you had spent the whole time avoiding her. Loki knew all the perfect places to hide in the TARDIS, which he had found when he was avoiding you after the Dark Ages. The pair of you had been enjoying each other’s company completely undisturbed, until the Doctor grew tired of the tension on his ship and called an intervention in the control room.
“This can’t go on any longer. I am taking you all on an adventure.” The Doctor had said once he managed to gather you all together.
“Thanks but I’d rather not.” You attempted to decline, you didn’t mean to sound rude towards the Doctor, you realised he was only trying to help and you appreciated that, however you couldn’t pretend everything was okay while Donna kept scowling in Loki’s direction the whole time.
“You can all either come on this trip with me or I can take you all back home right now, your choice.” The Doctor shocked all three of you with an ultimatum, knowing none of you would want to give up the freedom of space and time travel and return to your mundane lives.
The Doctor also knew that you had to consider your relationship with Loki, where would the Doctor take him, what was ‘home’ to Loki? Would he return him to Asgard or would he take him back to Earth with you? Technically he was still on the run from the TVA and staying put on one planet would likely only make it easier for them to track him down. You knew you couldn’t risk getting separated from Loki just to avoid the awkward tension with your auntie.
“You can’t do that!” Donna argued against the Doctors ultimatum.
“She’s right, it’s not fair.” Loki agreed with Donna who scowled at him as soon as he spoke up.
“I can. This is my ship and I can decide whether or not I will allow you to stay on it.” The Doctor threatened to display just how serious he was, practically daring any one of you to call his bluff. “So what will it be? An adventure or home?”
“Fine.” You were the first to yield, Loki and Donna looked at you with surprise but they knew that going home wasn’t an option. “We’ll go on an adventure.”
“Brilliant!” The Doctor celebrated his small victory with himself, “this might be exactly what you all need.” He optimistically assured the three of you as he pulled down the handbrake and sent the TARDIS into turbulent flight.
 ***
You all leaned over the brown wooden bannister of a red carpeted stairwell to look up and down at the many floors above and below you, the distinct scent of a hotel filled the air. So far your interest hadn’t been spiked and from the looks of it, neither had Loki’s or Donna’s as they wondered what sort of adventure could have been found on a seemingly abandoned hotel on Earth.
The only one who seemed excited was the Doctor, who enthusiastically bounced up the stairs with a wide smile on his face, but it didn’t usually take much to impress the Doctor.
“This could be the most exciting thing I have ever seen!” He said with genuine delight and you thought even that was a bit of an overreaction even for the Doctor, as he ran almost two flights above you.
“What’s exciting about an empty hotel on Earth that looks like it has a three star trip advisor rating at the most.” You asked, already wondering if you could call it a day and return to the TARDIS.
“Because, my friends, this is not Earth.” The Doctor told you as he leaned over the bannister above you all. “This has just been made to look like Earth. The craftsmanship involved... can you imagine?”
He ran back down the stairs towards you, now he had managed to grab your interest as you all wondered where you actually were.
“Then where are we?” Loki asked as the Doctor ran passed you all and you automatically followed after him, you were stood in front of the TARDIS which stood between two rows of stairs on the stairwell, against a wall.
“I don’t know, something must have yanked us off course.” The Doctor vaguely answered. “Look at the detail on that cheese plant!” He gasped as he stroked and sniffed the leaves.
“Why would someone mock up an Earth hotel?” Donna asked.
“Colonists perhaps,” the Doctor suggested as he turned back around to face you all. “Trying to recreate a home away from home, like when ex-pats open English pubs in Majorca. Whoever did this I am shaking their hand or tentacle or paw or... fin.” The Doctor trailed off.
“Have you seen these?” Loki spoke, drawing your attention to a bunch of framed portraits which were neatly lined along the walls above, below and alongside each other in thin gold frames.
“Look at the labels underneath. Commander Halke, defeat. Tim Heath, having his photo taken. Lady Silver-Tear... Daleks, I hope there aren’t any of those here.”
“You have encountered Daleks?” The Doctor looked at Loki with interest.
“Not personally, but they’re always attempting to invade the nine realms.” Loki answered while you and Donna kept looking at the portraits and reading the labels.
“What do they mean?” You wondered out loud.
“I don’t know. Let’s find out!” The Doctor was already running away in search of the lobby before anyone could ask anything else.
When you reached the abandoned reception desk of the hotel lobby, you could hear elevator music quietly playing on repeat and the Doctor hit the gold service bell, immediately giving you flashbacks to the TVA and when you looked around you realised the hotel had a strikingly similar dated decor.
You screamed and jumped back with fright when two strangers leaped out from around the corner with a battle cry. One of them, a woman dressed in blue hospital scrubs, swung a broken off chair leg at the Doctor, who managed to duck out the way just in time. The other one, a man with a head of messy curls and wearing thin silver framed square glasses, held a lamp upside down and waved it around wildly in front of him.
“What was that for?!” The Doctor cried as he moved behind your auntie for protection, while Loki was already pulling you behind him.
“Blimey, chill out!” Donna shouted at them.
“Why are you swinging about a chair leg?” The Doctor shouted from over Donna’s shoulder.
“Who are you?!” The woman in scrubs demanded.
“We’re back in reception.” The man next to her commented and you noticed the way his voice trembled as he looked around with wide eyes and you suddenly felt very uneasy.
The woman in the scrubs hesitantly stepped towards all of you and looked at each of you in the eyes.
“Rita, be careful, yeah.” The man told her.
“Their pupils are dilated. They’re as surprised as we are. Besides which, if it’s a trick, it’ll tell us something.” Rita told the man as she returned to his side.
“I’m the Doctor,” he said as he calmly stepped around Donna, “these are my friends,” he extended his arm towards the three of you and introduced each of you by your names.
“You with the glasses-“ The Doctor approached the curly haired man.
 “Howie.” He introduced himself.
“You sounded surprised to be back in reception. Why?” The Doctor ask.
“The walls move, everything changes.” Howie answered.
“The corridors twist and stretch, rooms vanish and pop up somewhere else. It’s like the hotel’s alive.” Rita continued.
“That’s quite enough of that.” The Doctor stepped towards the old radio and flicked the switch to turn off the repetitive elevator music.
“And it’s like huge, with, like, no way out.” Howie added.
“Have you tried the front door?” You asked.
“No, in two days it never occurred to us to try the front door. Thank god you’re here!” Rita sarcastically answered and you frowned.
“Right. That’s not good.” You heard the Doctor say and you looked in his direction to find he had pulled the front doors open only to reveal a white brick wall completely blocking the exit. He walked over to a pair of shut curtains and pulled them open to reveal no window just another brick wall. “Definitely not good.”
“It’s not just that. The rooms have... things in them.” Rita explained.
“Things? What sort of things?” The Doctor asked.
“Bad dreams.” Rita answered hesitantly, almost like she was certain he wouldn’t believe her.
“Doctor, I think we should leave.” Loki suggested.
“I already told you, there’s no way out.” Rita reminded him.
“We have a ship.” Loki smugly smiled.
“Wait, how did you two get here, then?” The Doctor asks the pair.
“I don’t know, I just started my shift. I must’ve passed out, because suddenly I was here.” Rita answered.
“I was blogging, next thing, this.” Howie said.
“So people are being snatched from their lives and dropped into an endless, shifting maze that looks like a 1980s hotel with bad dreams in the bedroom.” The Doctor concluded.
“But you have a ship, we can finally leave.” Howie pointed out, sounding relieved.
“Yes we do, follow me.” The Doctor once again sped off back towards the TARDIS and the rest of you rushed behind to keep up. “We’ll all get into the TARDIS, I’ll do a planet-wide diagnostic sweep and then I’ll return you back safely to the exact moments you got snatched away...”
The Doctors voice trailed off as he stopped in his tracks in front of an empty space where the TARDIS once stood. He held his arms out and felt around like he was checking it hadn’t somehow turned invisible but you could tell there was absolutely nothing there.
“Don’t tell me the TARDIS has gone.” Donna sighed.
“Okay.” The Doctor muttered, still stunned.
“Where is it then?” She asked.
“You told me not to tell you.” The Doctor turned around looking genuinely confused.
“Don’t get clever with me.” She warned him.
 “What’s a TARDIS?” Howie asked.
“Our way out. And it’s gone.” Loki groaned.
Suddenly you heard the elevator music from the lobby begin playing again by itself and the uneasy feeling spread deeper through your chest.
“Okay. We all just need to remain calm.”
The Doctor could sense how you were all on edge, “Rita, are there anymore of you?”
She glanced at Howie and down the stairwell before she looked back at the Doctor, “Joe, but he’s tied up right now.”
 “Doing what?” The Doctor asked.
“No, I mean he’s... literally tied up.” She clarified.
 ***
You all slowly entered a large room, one by one, that was filled with round tables covered in white cloths. Around each table, there sat identical creepy ventriloquist dummies, their chins lifted up and down as they all laughed.
Once you all entered the room, their laughter subsided, leaving you in complete silence. Slowly their heads began to turn by themselves, as they followed you with their large, vacant, painted on eyes.
You felt as though you had been dumped straight in the centre of a horror story, the eerie atmosphere of the room sent dreadful shivers through your spine and quickened your heart rate.
Loki had immediately sensed your trepidation and secured his arm around you as a form of comfort as he whispered in your ear reassurances that they were just puppets and could not hurt you and he would keep you safe. You had leaned into Loki’s hold in pursuit for more of his comfort.
Neither of you had noticed the way your auntie was observing your interaction from behind the pair of you, for once she wasn’t looking at you with judgement but with contemplation instead, Loki’s behaviour seemed natural and genuine, she still didn’t trust him but she appreciated the way Loki had managed to sooth you.
In the centre of the room, a dazed man sat at one of the tables, with rope across his chest which restrained him to his chair. He stared blankly ahead, as if he hadn’t even noticed anyone enter the room, as the Doctor tentatively approached him.
“Hello. I’m the Doctor.” He introduced himself.
“You’re going to die here.” Joe answered bluntly.
“Well, they certainly didn’t mention that in the brochure.” The Doctor muttered. “Is Joe there? Can I have a quick word?”
“Oh it’s still me, Doctor, but I’ve seen the light. I lived a blasphemous life, but he has forgiven my inconstancy, and soon he shall... feast.” The way Joe spoke reignited the shivers down your spine.
“You’ve been here two days, what’s he waiting for?” The Doctor asked as he pulled out one of the chairs and sat opposite Joe.
“We weren’t ready. We were still raw.” Joe smiled.
“And now you’re what? Cooked?” The Doctor guessed.
“If you like. Soon you will be, too. Be patient. First, find your room. There’s a room here for everyone.” His eyes shifted over to you, as did the dolls heads and you shuffled closer into Loki’s side.
“Nothing else matters anymore. Only him. It’s like these things.” Joe looked around at the puppets which surrounded each table. “I used to hate them! They make me laugh now.” Joe began laughing to himself.
“Gottle o’ geer! Gottle o’ geer!” Joe cheered as his laughter increased and the dummies began joining in again, their slack jaws chattering up and down.
“You should go. He’ll be here soon.” Joe told the Doctor.
 ***
You had all returned to the reception, the Doctor had managed to find a stack barrow, to wheel Joe around in while keeping him tied to his chair as the Doctor went over his plan.
“First, we find the TARDIS. Quick thing before we go. If you feel drawn to a particular room, do not go in, and make sure someone else can see you at all times.” The Doctor instructed.
You ended up searching through the hallways of the hotel, they were decorated with a red floral carpet and white floral wallpaper, all the numbered doors to the different rooms were white and between each door there was a wall lamp, which kept the hallways bright, since there were no windows to let in any natural light.
You and Loki walked side by side at the back of the group, Rita was pushing Joe in the stack barrow, by now he had some duct tape over his mouth to quiet his nonsensical ramblings. The Doctor lead the group at the front and Howie was muttering to Donna about his theory on how whole thing was a conspiracy, she didn’t appear convinced but she just smiled and nodded before she stepped on ahead to walk beside the Doctor.
You suddenly heard a school bell ring as a man stepped out of one of the rooms in front of the Doctor, dressed in a white vest and white shorts with a whistle around his neck.
 “Hello?” The Doctor spoke.
“Have you forgotten your P.E. kit again?” The man yelled, the Doctor had no answer as he glanced around in confusion. “Right, that’s it, you’re doing it in your pants!”
With that the man stormed back into his room and slammed the door behind him, the Doctor looked around at all of you in silence and you realised that must’ve been someone else’s bad dream.
“Hey! Don’t!” The Doctor shouted as he ran past you and Loki, you both jumped out the way and watched as Howie opened one of the doors to a room before the Doctor could reach him.
Once the door swung open you heard the sound of girls laughter.
“Oh look girls, it’s H-H-Howie.” You heard one of them tease, causing the others to burst into giggles.
“What’s “loser” in K-K-K-Klingon?” Another added encouraging another round of laughs.
“Shut the... d-d... the- the door!” Howie told the Doctor as he began backing away and the Doctor quickly slammed it shut as Howie stood behind him, nervously pulling the sleeves of his striped hoodie over his hands. “This is just some... m-m-messed up CIA b-b-bullshit, I’m- I’m telling you.”
“You’re right, keep telling yourself that. It’s a CIA thing, nothing more.” The Doctor told Howie as he put an arm over his shoulder and encouraged him to keep walking down the corridor and you all continued to quietly follow.
You felt as though you were walking around in circles as every hallway looked exactly the same, the same carpet, the same wallpaper, the same wall lamps and doors. There were no signs which told you what floor you were on, the only thing which was different was the numbers on the front of each of the doors.
There was a dip in the ceiling, which ran along the top of the corridor, it looked like a beam, the Doctor ran his finger over it to trace some large scratch marks that had been left behind. While Donna stopped and bent down to pick up some small notebook sized pieces of paper which she had found on the floor. You glanced over her shoulder to look at the words scribbled in pencil which were written over it.
Loki had fallen to the back of the group and he slowed as he passed one of the doors, until he was stood in front of it. Everything in him was screaming at him to walk away but he couldn’t, it was as if he were stuck, as the urge to open the door before him overpowered him.
Hesitantly he lifted his hand, which had begun shaking, to the doorknob. He was overwhelmingly curious about what his bad dream might be, many nights he had been plagued with nightmares of being back at the sanctuary, tortured by The Other. He wondered if that’s what was waiting for him behind his door, or perhaps it was Thanos himself, come to kill him just like in the projection the TVA had shown him.
No one noticed as Loki pushed his door open and peaked inside his room, to find the last thing he expected, it was empty. Apart from two single beds against the wall, a table between them with a lamp on top of it, much like a normal hotel room, there was nothing. Loki drew his brows together, he wasn’t sure whether he should’ve been relieved or worried.
Loki retreated and stepped back into the hallway, as he gently pulled the door back shut he glanced at the number on the front of it to find it was room 13 and he narrowed his eyes.
You had turned around just in time to see him with his hand on the doorknob and you called his name as you ran towards him.
“Loki, don’t go in there!” You grabbed his arm and dragged him away from the door.
“It’s too late.” Loki mumbled as his eyes remained on the door and you put both your hands on the sides of his face to force him to look at you.
“What did you see?” You asked him and he slightly shook his head.
 “Nothing.”
“It’s okay, you can tell me.” You encouraged him, believing he was trying to protect you.
“No, I’m not lying... there- there was nothing.” Loki told you, you could see the genuine confusion in his eyes and you realised he was telling the truth.
A sudden growl grabbed everyone’s attention, it was a low and thunderous sound that could only come from a dangerous beast. Joe began squirming in his chair as he tried to break free from his restraints as the growling grew closer.
“Okay, whatever that is, it’s not real, yeah?” Donna asked the Doctor.
“No, no, I’m sure it isn’t,” you heard him assure her, yet the way he was backing away betrayed him, “but just in case, let’s run away and hide anyway, in here.”
The Doctor encouraged you all to pile into one of the rooms, some of you got separated, while you, Loki, Donna and the Doctor entered one room, Rita and Howie ran into another, abandoning Joe in the middle of the hallway.
When you looked into the room, you saw two stone statues of angels with their faces hidden behind their hands as if they were crying.
“Oh god. Okay, whatever you do. Don’t blink.” The Doctor ordered you all as he stared with wide eyes at the stone statues in front of him.
“Why not?” You dared to ask.
“They’re Weeping Angels, they can only move when they’re not being observed, a single touch from one of them will make you disappear forever.” The Doctor quickly explained to you and your eyes began to burn as you stared at the stone sculptures in front of you.
The light of the room began flickering off and on, every time the room was plunged into completely darkness the light came back on to reveal the angels had moved closer. Now they had removed their hands from their face as they reached out for you with their mouths open wide to reveal sharp teeth.
Your pulse raced as you backed yourself up against the wall each time they came closer, you wanted to scream but you were too frightened, your eyes watered from the sting of forcing them open too long and you clung on impossibly tight to Loki’s arm.
“Why haven’t they got us yet?” The Doctor asked once the angels stopped coming any closer.
The Doctor bravely stepped forward, while the rest of you remained against the wall.
“Doctor, be careful.” Donna warned him, as he reached his hand out towards the stone angel but once he touched it, nothing happened and the Doctor sighed with relief.
“They’re not real. They would’ve got us by now. They’re not real. Just someone’s bad dream.” The Doctor turned around to assure you all and each of you slumped against the wall in unison, as you let your eyes finally fall shut, you wiped away the moisture that fell from your tear ducts, as your eyes watered heavily to replenish their irritated and dried surface.
From the hallway you could hear the growls grow closer, as they were accompanied by heavy footsteps. On the floor, where light from the hallway leaked through the gap of the door, you saw the shadows of the beasts legs as it stomped past. You held your breath as you tightly closed your eyes and you felt Loki’s arms tighten around you.
The Doctor quietly stepped up to the door and spied through the peephole, but quickly jumped back when the beast banged against the door from the other side.
“Oh dear.” He glanced nervously at the rest of you before he returned to the door to take another glance through the peephole. “I think it’s going after Joe.”
He watched as Joe managed to struggle free from the ties which bound him to the chair, as he stood and held his arms out wide at his sides, with a large smile on his face.
“Come to me. Come to me.” He welcomed the beast. “Praise him.”
Suddenly it fell silent and you all glanced at each other, wondering if it was safe to leave the room yet. The Doctor was the first one to step out of the room as he looked up and down the empty hallway, the only thing left behind was the chair, the stack barrow and the ties which were left discarded on the floor. The Doctor looked to the top of the hallway just in time, to see Joes legs disappear behind the corner, as the beast dragged him away.
“Leave him alone!” The Doctor shouted as he ran after him. As you all ran out the room after him, Rita and Howie emerged from the room they had hidden in.
Once you all turned the corner, you found the Doctor crouching beside Joe, who was perched in a kneeling position against the wall, his head lulled lifelessly and his vacant eyes stared at nothing, as the Doctor patted at his cheek. The look on the Doctors face as he solemnly glanced back up at all of you, told you everything you needed to know.
 ***
The Doctor and Loki had managed to carry Joe’s body to one of the hotel’s bars, where they rested him on the floor and covered him with a white cloth from one of the tables, while you and Donna wedged chairs underneath the handles of all the doors in an attempt to stop anything from getting into the bar where you sought refuge.
The only sound that filled the room was the ear piercing whistle of an old kettle coming to a boil, as Rita made cups of tea for you all and Howie quietly sat at one of the tables by himself.
“What exactly happened to him?” Rita asked the Doctor as she approached him with two cups of tea in her hand, one of which she handed to him.
From where you sat on a nearby table, next to Loki, you listened in on their conversation.
“He died.” The Doctor answered plainly as he held his mug full of tea in front of him.
“You are a medical Doctor, aren’t you?” Rita checked, “you haven’t just got a degree in cheese-making or something.”
“No! Well, yes, both, actually.” The Doctor answered. “I mean, there is no cause, all his vital organs simply stopped, as if the simple spark of life, his loves and hates, his faiths and fears were just... taken.”
“So you believe this to be a fake alien hotel?” Rita pointed out. “I heard you talking when you arrived.” She confessed after the Doctor silently tilted his head, wondering how she knew that. “Look, it’s no more ridiculous than Howie’s CIA theory or mi... or mine.”
 “Which is?”
 “This is Jahannam.” She stated.
“You’re a muslim? You think this is hell?” The Doctor asked curiously and Rita nodded.
“The whole ‘80s hotel thing took me by surprise, though.” She added.
“All these fears and phobias wondering about, most are completely unconnected to us, so why are they still here?” He asked her as if she had the answers.
“Maybe the cleaners have gone on strike.” She joked which made the Doctor laugh.
“I like you, you’re a right clever clogs. But this isn’t hell, Rita.” The Doctor told her.
“You don’t understand, I say that without fear. Jahannam will play its tricks, and there’ll be times when I want to run and scream, but I’ve tried to live a good life and that knowledge keeps me sane, despite the monsters and the bonkers rooms.” She explained before Donna approached the Doctor, holding in her hand the pieces of paper she found on the floor earlier.
“Doctor, look at this. I found it in a corridor, I forgot I had it.” Donna told him as she handed over the pages to him. The Doctor took them in his hands and leaned against the table you and Loki were sat at as he read the scribbled writing on the paper out loud.
My name is Lucy Hayward and I’m the last one left. It took Luke first. It got him on his first day, almost as soon as he arrived. It’s funny, you don’t know what’s going to be in your room until you see it, then you realise it could have never been anything else. I just saw mine. It was a gorilla from a book I’d read as a kid. My god that thing used to terrify me. The gaps between my worships are getting shorter, like contractions. This is what happened to the others... and how lucky they were. It’s all so clear now. I’m so happy. Praise him.
“Praise him.” Howie repeated from where he was sat, grabbing everyone’s attention.
“What did you just say?” The Doctor asked.
“Nothing...” Howie innocently answered before he looked like he was fighting against himself as the words rose to his tongue. “Praise him.” He said again before he slapped his own hand over his mouth.
“This is what happened to Joe.” Rita told you all, as Howie rose from his chair and began to pace back and forth.
“God, it’s going to come for me now.” He worriedly muttered to himself.
“I won’t leave you, I promise, you have my word.” The Doctor swore to him.
“I don’t want to get eaten!” Howie grew more anxious.
“Howie, calm down.” Rita tried to tell him.
“He’s going to lead the beast right here.” Loki said.
All their voices jumbled together as the spoke over one another, before the Doctor raised his sonic screwdriver in the air and it emitted a shrill sound which rung through your ears, you quickly covered them with your palms and everyone fell silent.
“Thank you.” The Doctor said once everyone had stopped talking.
“Don’t you see? He will lead the monster right here!” Loki was the first to speak.
“What do you suggest?” Rita turned to him and Loki silently looked around at everyone, until his eyes fell on you.
“We have to keep ourselves safe and find the TARDIS,” he told the room, “tragic though it might be, now is not the time for sentiment. The beast is coming for Howie and if we all remain here it might take us too.”
“Of course you’re thinking about yourself.” Donna snidely commented.
“I’m thinking about the safety of your niece, actually.” Loki corrected her and she frowned regretfully.
“It’s okay, I’ll stay with Howie. You take the others and go.” Rita offered.
“No. We stay together.” The Doctor said with finality. “Howie, any second now, it’s going to possess you again. When it does, I’m going to ask you some questions. Please try to answer them.”
The Doctor sat Howie down at one of the tables and you all sat down opposite him. The Doctor tapped his fingers on the surface of the table as he waited for the possession to wash over Howie again. You noticed it seemed to have come over him when his eyes widened and he gasped in a breath of air.
The edge of Howie’s lips lifted into a smile and he raised his large brown eyes to look at you all from under his dark eyebrows, the sinister look unsettled you.
“Howie, you’re next! We’re all so jealous, so tell us... How do we get a piece of the action? Why isn’t he possessing all of us?” The Doctor baited him.
“You guys have got all these distractions, all these obstacles. It’d be so much easier if you just it let go, you know, clear the path.” Howie explained, his demeanour completely changed, he became lucid and relaxed.
“You want it to find you? Even though you know what it’s going to do?” You asked.
“Are you kidding?” Howie asked you directly. “He’s going to kill us all! How cool is that?!”
The Doctor abruptly stood up and you did too, followed by Loki and then Donna and Rita as you huddled into a group with your backs turned to Howie.
“It’s as I thought. It feeds on fear.” The Doctor whispered. “Everything, the rooms, Lucy’s note, even the pictures in reception, has been put here to frighten us. So we have to resist it. Do whatever you have to, cross your fingers, say a prayer, think of a basket of kittens, but do not give in to the fear.” He instructed.
“Guys... where’s Howie?” Rita asked and you all turned around and looked at the empty chair where he was once sat.
“My master, my lord. I’m here! Bring me death!” You heard Howie’s voice faintly cry from the stairwell.
“No!” The Doctor yelled as he ran out the exit of the bar, in search for Howie, Donna and Rita followed after him and you followed after them, ignoring Loki who called after you.
Somehow you all got separated as you ran through the corridors in search for Howie and each other. Rita had said that the corridors twisted and stretched, it likely did this on purpose. You found yourself alone in one of the empty hallways, the door at the end of it called to you. Number 7. Without moving the wall slid closer to you, until all you had to do was reach out your hand and turn the doorknob to find out what awaited you.
You know you shouldn’t have, you really tried not to, but you couldn’t help yourself as you slowly pushed open your door and glanced at what was inside.
Your eyes widened when on the edge of the bed you saw a dark figure, the only light in the room was the one which leaked through from the hallway, but you recognised it immediately. The figure haunted your dreams often as a child, it became less frequent as you grew older until you had forgotten about it completely. The nightmares used to petrify you, often you would wake in the middle of the night screaming and your mother would have to come running into your bedroom to comfort you and tell you it was just a bad dream.
You yelped when you felt someone yank you away from the door, before they slammed it shut.
“You shouldn’t have done that.” Rita told you. “What did you see?”
“Nothing.” You said defensively, you didn’t want to explain it, “I didn’t see anything.”
Rita could easily tell that you were lying, but she didn’t call you out on it, respecting the fact you didn’t wish to share your bad dream.
“Come on.” She urged you, taking you to find everyone else.
As you ran through the endless maze of corridors, you eventually ran into Donna, all three of you remained together until you turned down a corridor and found the Doctor standing in front of Howie’s body which was presented in a kneeling position against the wall, just like Joe’s had been.
The Doctor silently stared back at the three of you, regret evident in his eyes at the fact he was unable to save his life. Just as you began to wonder where Loki was, he appeared at the other end of the hallway, as soon as you saw him you rushed towards him. He pulled you into his arms without hesitation and planted a chaste kiss on the top of your head.
 ***
The Doctor was walking up the stairwell, having just returned from the bar where he and Loki had placed Howie’s body alongside Joe’s and put another white table cloth over him. He had decided he needed to go for a walk, he was beginning to feel the pressure of time running out and if he didn’t come up with a plan soon he was going to lose all of you.
As he walked up the stairwell, he ran into Rita, who was walking in the opposite direction.
“Rita! How are you?” He greeted her, “not panicking, are you?”
 She shook her head.
“Good. That’s very good. Because I’m on the verge of getting us out of here.” He assured her, despite the fact he wasn’t entirely certain if he actually was.
“Why is it up to you to save us?” Rita asked him. “It’s quite a god complex you have there.”
“I brought them here.” He told her, “I didn’t really give them a choice in the matter. I threatened to take them back home and take the freedom of all of time and space away from them if they didn’t join me on one adventure. How much safer they would’ve been if they had’ve decided to go home.”
“All of time and space, eh?” Rita grew interested.
“Oh, yeah. And when we get out of this, I’ll show you, too.” He promised her, before his eyes landed on a security camera above her head and he smiled as he suddenly got an idea. “Right down to the smallest detail. Got you, Mr Minotaur.”
With that, he ran off down the stairs and Rita was left staring at the security camera. Curiously she stepped up the stairs and stood right in front of it as she looked directly into it.
“Praise him.” She smiled as she closed her eyes.
 ***
Loki studied you as you both sat in silence at one of the tables in the bar, you had been quiet ever since you reunited after you all got separated. He understood you were frightened, even he was too, but there had been a change in you and it didn’t take him long to figure out what it was.
“You’ve seen your room, haven’t you.” Loki quietly said as he took your hand in his to get your attention.
You had been staring into nothing and you rapidly blinked as you zoned back in and looked at Loki, his face was filled with nothing but concern for you as you silently nodded before dropped your head in shame.
Loki placed the tips of his fingers under your chin and gently encouraged you to lift your head.
“What did you see?” He asked you.
“There was a figure sat on the bed,” your eyes gently filled with tears as you retold Loki of the nightmares that plagued you as a child. “I’m next, aren’t I? It’s going to come for me. I’m sorry, Loki. I’m so sorry, I tried to resist it, I’m sorry.”
Loki tenderly shushed you as you began to cry and pulled you into his chest, where you sobbed into the front of his shirt as you let his comforting warmth and scent surround you, never wanting to leave the safety of his embrace. You whined as Loki pulled back and he left a soft kiss on your salty lips before he took your face in his hands and wiped away the tears which ran down your cheeks.
“I won’t let anything happen to you, I promise. I will do whatever it takes to protect you.” Loki swore to you, before he let you hug back into him as he tried his best to sooth you.
Unbeknownst to the both of you, Donna watched on from the doorway to the bar, she had missed the part where you revealed you had seen your room and only caught the pair of you as Loki promised to protect you, she was beginning to believe that he truly meant it.
 ***
After Loki had managed to calm you down, you decided that you should go find the Doctor, Donna had revealed herself to the both of you once you exited the bar and to your surprise she didn’t have anything to say about you and Loki.
“Where’s Rita?” You asked your auntie when you realised she wasn’t with any of you.
“Maybe she’s with the Doctor.” Donna shrugged.
Donna joined you on your way to find, Rita and the Doctor, she remained silent the whole time and didn’t even send any hostile glances in Loki’s direction when he took your hand in his, you were slightly confused but didn’t question it as you were just grateful that she was giving the pair of you some peace.
You were walking down a corridor when you heard the Doctor’s voice, from behind a door that was wedged open slightly and you rushed through it with Loki and Donna close behind you.
“What’s going on? Rita’s disappeared.” You told him once you entered the room, you saw all the black and white TV’s in front of the Doctor, which displayed live security footage and you noticed he had a phone to his ear, while on one of the TVA’s Rita looked directly into the camera as she, too, spoke into a phone from one of the bedrooms which she had brought out into the corridor.
“Rita. Rita, please. Let me find you.” The Doctor urgently pleaded.
“Stay where you are.” She ordered him. “Please, let me be robbed of my faith in private.”
“Listen, Rita. Go into the room, lock the door.” The Doctor instructed her after he saw the beast walk by on the security footage displayed on one of the other TV’s and saw it was closing in on Rita.
“I’m not frightened. I’m blessed, Doctor. I’m at peace.” She told him. “I’m going to hang up now.”
“No, Rita, Don’t!” The Doctor begged.
“Goodbye, Doctor.” Rita spoke directly into the camera, it was almost as if she was looking right into the Doctors eyes. “Thank you for trying.”
“Rita! Rita, please!” The Doctor shouted, but he knew he couldn’t hear her as she pulled the phone from her ear and placed it back down on the receiver. The Doctor still hadn’t removed the phone from his own ear, as the dial tone and his useless pleas were the only sounds that filled the room.
“Doctor, it’s too late.” Donna gently told him as she slid the phone from his hand and returned it to the receiver, the Doctor couldn’t tear his eyes away from the security footage as a large shadow began to loom over Rita and she smiled.
“Doctor!” Donna called after him as he abruptly stormed out the room. You jumped when you heard the sound of glass smashing and tables being thrown over, as the Doctor unleashed his emotions, you knew he had grown close to Rita during their short time together.
Watching the beast take her had only made it all the more real, as you realised that was your unavoidable fate. You looked up at Loki, your vision blurred as moisture gathered in your eyes, he had vowed to protect you and you didn’t doubt he would but you were trapped here with no way out, even the TARDIS had disappeared, you knew that the odds were not in your favour and that realistically you didn’t have long left.
 ***
You, Loki and Donna quietly sat at one of the tables which the Doctor hadn’t flipped over in the now trashed bar. As the Doctor paced around in front of you all, desperately trying to figure it out.
“It preys on people’s fear and possesses them. But Rita wasn’t afraid, she was brave and calm. Maybe it’s something to do with the people, some connection between you that will tell me how to fight it.”
“Yes. You keep saying that, but while we wait, people keep dying and she will be next.” Loki criticised the Doctor and you looked at him with wide eyes as he referred to you.
“No, you won’t let that happen.” You told him, as you took his hands in yours.
“I know, darling, I know.” He turned to you in his chair, “don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“You saw your room?” Donna realised.
“I’m sorry.” Your voice trembled as you spoke to her and she instantly rose from her seat to pull you into her arms and shushed you.
“You’ve nothing to be sorry for, you’re going to be okay.” She assured you.
“Oh, no. Oh, no, no.” The Doctor mumbled. “It’s not fear. It’s faith.” He realised.
You pulled away from Donna as you watched the Doctor have an epiphany.
“Not just religious faith, like Rita’s, but faith in something. Howard believed in conspiracies, that external forces controlled the world. Joe had dice cufflinks and a horseshoe pin on his tie. He was a gambler. Gamblers believe in luck. They all believe there’s something guiding them, about to save them. That’s what it replaces. Every time someone was confronted with their most primal fear, they fell back on their most fundamental faith. And this whole time, I’ve been telling you to dig deep. Find the thing that keeps you brave. I made you expose your faith and gave it exactly what it needed.” The Doctor said with regret.
“What about me?” You asked, “What does it want from me?”
“Your faith in Loki.” The Doctor answered. “That’s what brought us here.”
You all fell silent and Loki realised that the one thing putting your life in danger was your faith in him. Which meant if you died, it would be his fault, he concluded in his own mind.
“But why do they lose their faith before they die and start worshipping... “it”?” Donna was the first to break the silence.
“It needs to convert the faith into a form “it” can consume. Faith is an energy, the specific emotional energy the creature needs to live.” The Doctor explained. “Which is why at the end of her note, Lucy said...”
 “Praise him.” You said.
“Exactly.” The Doctor nodded, until his eyes widened when he realised you weren’t finishing his sentence for him, you had began worshipping the beast.
“No.” Loki said to you, having realised the same thing. “Please, no.” He pleaded as he took your hands in his own.
Suddenly you began to hear a distant growl and the sound of heavy footsteps from the floor above. The beast was coming for you.
“We have to get her away from here.” The Doctor announced and Loki urged you out of your seat as you all began to run out of the bar and back into the endless maze.
As you ran through the corridors with a tight grip on Loki’s hand, you heard the footsteps coming closer behind you, until when you glanced over your shoulder, you finally saw it chasing after you.
You slipped your hand free from Loki’s and turned to face the beast, you thought it was beautiful and you didn’t understand why you were ever running from it, you wanted to welcome it and the glorious death it would bring you.
But you felt two pairs of hands dragging you away, you tried to fight against them but they were stronger, as Loki and Donna both pulled you along the hallway, away from the beast which was quickly catching up to you.
“Over here!” Loki shouted towards the Doctor when he saw door number 13, “it’s my room, there’s nothing in here!”
The Doctor pushed open the door and Loki and Donna pulled you into the room before the Doctor slammed the door shut and leaned his weight against it in an attempt to keep the beast out.
“What do we do now? We’re trapped.” Donna looked to the Doctor, Loki turned to him for answers as well, as you crouched to the floor with your back facing everyone.
Suddenly the beast slammed against the door, trying to get through, but the Doctor continued pushing his weight against the door trying to keep it out.
“You have to destroy her faith in you,” the Doctor told Loki urgently, as the beast kept beating against the door. “It’s the only way you can save her.”
Loki swallowed as he felt his throat tighten and he lowered his eyes to you where you knelt on the floor with your back to him, another hit against the door from the wild beast behind him urged him to step towards you, until he crouched by your side.
“Loki, it’s happening, it’s changing me, it’s changing my thoughts.” You told Loki, still believing he could save you.
Loki fought back his tears, throughout his entire life he had been told to control his emotions, despite that, he had never been very good at it, but now your life depended on it and he tried to remain as emotionless as possible. He gulped down the lump in his throat and controlled the tremble in his voice, so it wouldn’t give him away as he spoke.
“I can’t save you.” Loki told you and he felt the first unbearable rip in his chest as you looked up at him with wide, frightened eyes, expecting him to be your hero.
“What? No, you can. You promised.” You desperately encouraged him.
Loki had to momentarily divert his gaze to stop himself from breaking. He masked it as a bored sigh as he wiped his palm down his face before he looked back towards you, ensuring that his eyes lacked any of the adoration, trust and love that he held for you in his wounded heart. Shadows cast over his eyes, making them darker in the already dimly lit room as he stared at you from beneath his eyebrows. The only time you ever recalled him looking at someone like that was when he confronted Cassandra, back then the look had sent shivers through your spine, but now it made your chest cave as you wondered what you had done to the person you love to make him look at you like that.
“I lied.” Loki lied. “I tricked you. I’m the God of Mischief, it’s what I do best, and you fell for it so easily.”
“You’re lying. It’s not funny.” You shook your head, refusing to believe him, your faith in him remained strong. Loki decided to try another tactic which caused a sick feeling to stir in his stomach, but he had promised he would do whatever it takes to protect you and he wasn’t going to break his promise, even if that meant he had to make you hate him.
“You should have listened to your auntie,” Loki continued. “She was right, I’ve been lying to you this whole time. I wasn’t controlled by the mind stone when I attacked New York, I brought death and destruction and enjoyed every second of it.”
“No, stop.” You pleaded as you began to sob, “why are you saying this?” You tried to hold onto him but he shoved you away as he stood up straight above you and you grovelled at his feet, clinging onto him and your belief in him for dear life, like it wasn’t the one thing endangering it.
By now the beast had managed to overpower the Doctor and the door was wide open. It’s shadow loomed over you and Loki realised that if he was about to lose you forever, he would rather it be in the way where you survived in the end. He had to truly hurt you.
“I told you a made up sob story and you fell for it, like a fool... or perhaps you were just so desperate for some affection, you didn’t care who it came from. I’d expect nothing less from a pathetic human such as yourself. You asked me once if I thought you were a worthless creature,” Loki noticed the monster finally stopped in his tracks half way into the room, as you finally let go of his legs and began to shuffle away from him, dreading what he was going to say next. Loki knew that this was the final blow that would completely shatter your faith and trust in him and save your life. So with his heart already torn in to shreds, he prepared to reach into his chest and rip out the broken pieces of his heart and throw them away, destroying any chance of it ever being put back together again after this. “Truth be told, I think you’re the most worthless of them all.”
With that the beast collapsed to his knees and you scrambled to your feet to get away from Loki as you looked at him with so much betrayal, he had to avoid your eyes to stop himself from breaking down right there in front of you and start begging for your forgiveness.
You rushed to your auntie for comfort, while the Doctor crouched by the creatures side as it let out it’s final breaths.
Once it was dead, the hotel around you began to collapse like a house of cards, you were all left unharmed as everything around you vanished into nothing, until it revealed that you had been on a spaceship this whole time as you were surrounded by futuristic electronics and a round window which revealed the vast vacuum of space and a nearby grey planet. The ship was quiet and it seemed to be abandoned, but you weren’t going to stick around long enough to double check as you finally saw the TARDIS, stood in the far corner of the dark room. You wanted to get as far away from Loki as possible, so as soon as you had laid eyes on the Doctors ship, you had ran towards it and disappeared behind its blue doors.
It was then that Loki realised why his room had been empty, it was in his room where he had lost you, and that was his biggest fear.

tell me some things last
Pairing:  13th Doctor x Reader
Summary: There are always someone who dare to use the Doctor's companion against him/her, most of the times the Doctor is able to rescue them but we know better, don't we? The Doctor can't save everyone.
(yn) (ln) traveled with Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald in the tardis after a chance meeting that involved another alien. Clara welcomed you with open arms, claiming the two of you will be a great friend.
You were not as close with the Doctor as Clara is. You understand they have a longer time together. You love travelling with him despite him being kind of intimidating. Clara is the only one who can seem to manage him. You were shy around the Doctor, often not knowing what to say when you two are alone. You can tell the both of you are relieved whenever Clara is on the room as she never fails to lighten up the room.
The topic regeneration come up when the Doctor and Clara accidentally mentioned his previous incarnation and his perchant for fish finger and custard. With the Doctor's  permission, Clara told you bit about regeneration. She even showed you a picture of Eleventh Doctor. You could hardly believe they are the same person.
Clara is reminiscing about her past adventure with Eleventh Doctor. You thought that version of the Doctor sounded like a fun person but you accidentaly spoke that thought out loud.
The Doctor is offended and exclaimed he is fun too, proceed to show off how fun he is much to Clara and your amusement. Three of you have fun together. You dare say that you and the Doctor grew closer just a tiny bit than before.
And then things went downhill when Clara died on trap street. He is gone leaving you to deal with Clara's body.
The Doctor is gone. You don't know what happened to him. You couldn't begin to even ask someone for help. You waited for him but he never come back. You fell into depression as you couldn't handle the loss of Clara and the Doctor. You meet a kind nurse named grace who help you deal with your depression.
You missed Clara and the Doctor so much. You wish he would come back for you. Of course, he didn't. He didn't owe you anything, so, why would he come back for you?
Grace thought you were experiencing a broken heart, that a lover has left you behind. You couldn't exactly tell her it was an alien that broke your heart and not even a lover. You would feel silly. But also you are grieving the loss of a very good friend.
A year later, you accidentally stumbled upon incident that is alien in nature and that is when you met Bill and Nardole. You overheard them mentioned the doctor and demanded to see him.
You finally see him again. You were at loss of words. He was surprised to see you but he smiled kindly. You slapped him hard without thinking.
"Okay. I deserve that." He begrudgingly said as he rubbed his cheek.
"I'm glad you think so." You coldly replied.
The Doctor glanced at your state and his eyes softened considerably. "How have you..."
You throw your arms around him as you pulled him into a hug much to his surprise and protest. You discreetly smelled him, you missed him so badly, you were so grateful to be able to find him again.
The Doctor introduced you to Nardole and Bill and invited you back on board of the tardis.
You were hesitant, a year ago, you would agree in a heartbeat. But were you ready to jump back into the disarray life that is the Doctor?
Bill is very friendly and she start animatedly chatted with you, wanting to know more about your past with the Doctor once she figured out that you were his past companion.
From Bill, you found out that the Doctor is a teacher in the university where she worked at. You were surprised and very curious, wanting to know how he handle being a teacher for a bunch of students. Bill, laughingly, told you the Doctor's teaching method is weird.
At the end of the day, you decided you wanted to stay with him again if he will have you. And it helped that Bill latched herself on you almost immediately. But Nardole seemed not too keen of having you around but Bill said not to mind him.
The Doctor and Nardole are guarding a mysterious vault. Although curious, you know better than to pry or asking the Doctor directly. You believed you haven't yet earned his trust.
Eventually, you meet the sarcastic, mary poppin-style Time Lady who, according the doctor, is currently undergoing a rehabilitation.
You don't like Missy for her sharp tongue and she seemed to look down upon you, Bill and Nardole.
The Doctor wanted to have a test run with Missy having to answer a distress call and solved the crisis with the help of Bill and Nardole. You opted to stay behind with the Doctor and you were lucky you did so.
When Bill got shot by some random blue alien and then later converted into the cyberman, you were traumatized by the whole thing. When the strange mechanical men come in to take Bill away, you volunteered to go with them so you could better watch over her much to the Doctor's dismay. You weren't sure where you get the courage to step forward from but you did it, albeit it is a very stupid move on your part.
But those years with Bill, taking care of each other, gossiping about the Doctor's angry eyebrow from the supposedly live monitor, you couldn't regret it. Bill is your friend and you care about her. You dont want to lose her like you did Clara.
When the old man, Razor, betrayed yours and Bill's trust by letting the doctors on that ship to operate on the both of you, you were in despair. You watched as they ripped you and Bill away from each other and you were made to watch as they operates on Bill.
Her pleading voice and screams of pain forever seared in your mind. You never hated someone as much as you hated Razor and all the people in that stupid ship.
You were about to undergoes the converting surgery when the Doctor and Nardole burst in and rescued you. You were hysterical when they finally freed you from the straps.
You cried as you told them that Bill has been converted. The agonized look on the Doctor's face is too painful to watch. He hugged you, kissed your forehead as he soothed you. You were surprised by his sudden affectionate attitude but you were too distracted by what is being done to Bill and the fate you nearly shared.
In the face of Bill's misery of having been turned as cyberman, you felt guilty. When the Master revealed himself as Razor and mocked you and Bill about it, you very nearly lost your marble as you wanted to attack the miserable bastard but the Doctor pulled you back and away from him.
Everything spiralled out of control and next thing you know you woke up on the tardis floor with the Doctor yelling that he refused to regenerate.
You and the Doctor were able to says goodbye to Bill, Nardole and Clara through the testimony project.
The Doctor finally regenerated as you saw him glowing yellow and then exploded into a blonde woman. But before you could say anything, the tardis shook violently and ejected the Doctor out. You were lucky you weren't ejected as you were not sure you could survive the fall.
The next few days, you worried sick about where the Doctor is. You couldn't talk to anyone but the tardis and frankly you felt silly talking to the box.
You nearly got a heart attack though when tardis voice interface got activated at the word 'help' you uttered. It showed a hologram of Twelfth Doctor asking you what you need of help for.
You felt grief suddenly at the sight of him. You knew the Doctor survived but he had changed into a new person now, a woman at that. You wondered if she would even still want you around now.
When a woman you presumed to be the new Doctor dressed in a new clothing stepped in with three other people, you were so glad and a bit wary.
The Doctor seemed happy to see you as she pulled you into her arms before introducing you to her new friends.
That is when you found out about Grace, a kind nurse who used to help you with your depression. She met the Doctor and she died. You felt like you got slapped in the face as you are starting to worry that it will be a matter of time before it was your turn to die next if you continue to stay with the doctor. But your heart hurts at the thought of leaving the doctor behind. You were not ready to let her go. And so you cling to her for as long as you can.
You were initially worry that the Doctor would ask you to leave as despite the ship is bigger on the inside, it might be a tad crowded with 5 people on board. And frankly you weren't sure you are ready for adventure so soon. You don't want to leave her or the tardis but you declined on some adventures with the fam, preferring to stay on the safety inside of the tardis.
The Doctor is concerned but understanding and didn't pressure you.
The fam are nice enough and love to chat with you, asking about your past with the Doctor. It hurts to talk about the past which included losing two best friends so you remained mostly vagues.
Eventually, you started to go on adventures again but you were mostly wary believing trouble is a foot everytime you stepped out of the tardis and let face it, with the Doctor, the magnet for trouble, you should expect it.
Maybe it was just your feeling but you felt the Doctor is a tad bit protective of you. And yet, she also keep her distant from you which make you anxious that your time with her might be over soon.
At new years, when a dalek took control over Ryan's dad body, you refused to let him go as you fight to keep him safe along with Ryan. In your mind, at the times, you refused another loss.
When everything is safe and sound, the Doctor is looking at you with a look you can't decipher.
It hit you suddenly that you might have a strong feeling for the Doctor. You decided to take a short break away from the Doctor and tardis to sort out your feeling but you made her swear up and down that she will come back for you again when you are ready. She promised.
Of course, when you finally returned to the tardis, you found out from the fam that they had meet an enemy of the Doctor, the Master. You felt like you were being kicked in the gut. You hated that person for his part with Bill's miserable fate and nearly yours. It was a different incarnation but still he already in your blacklist.
You noticed the Doctor look gloomy, sad and just distant and you hated it. She seemed so far from you eventhough she is just a few steps away from you.
You wanted to ask her what is going on with her but you dont think she would ever open up to you. But you still have to try, right? So you approached her and as you predicted, she shut you down.
It kind of hurt that she still doesn't trust you but you tried not to take it personally. You tried to be good and less annoying for fear if you ask too much from her, she would turn you away for good.
And then you and the fam meet Jack. Your heart nearly jumped at his warning of cyberman. The fam has yet to encounter cybermen but you did. The word alone enough to send you back to that flashback of being strapped down on the operating table as the doctors are ready to convert you.
Jack and the fam look concerned at seeing your pale face and rapid shallow breathing.
Yaz and Graham are able to calm you down when you finally told them about Bill.
When you and the fam returned to the tardis, they delivered Jack's warning for the Doctor.
You noticed the Doctor is staring at you at the mention of cyberman but she didn't say anything to you.
The Doctor found you alone as you sort of barricated yourself inside a random room in hope to calm yourself down. She sat beside you without words. It was a somewhat comfortable silence despite at the beginning you felt like you have to say something to her but you found yourself speechless.
You were glad she didn't ask you if you want to go home for in your moment of weakness you might say yes and you have feeling you will lose her for good if you did that. She would want to keep you safe and she might actually do that by leaving you behind on earth.
It wasn't that long before Jack's warning of the lone cyberman coming true. It looked somewhat defective but still lethal and, of course, the shape of it alone is enough to make a mess of your mind.
You have a panic attack again and the Doctor calmed you down with her soothing words and a gentle kiss on your forehead which reminded you a lot of her previous incarnation.
Somehow you felt like you are having a moment with the Doctor and yet for some reason you cant quite grasp it. You just feel at lost.
The Doctor left to deal with the lone cyberman and at the end of it all she has to surrender cyberium back to him. But, she planned to travel into the distant future to deal with Ashad and his armies.
The fam eagerly wanted to help despite the danger. You felt like if you didnt follow through with  the rest, you were not good enough to be her companion. So, you forced yourself to overcome your fear.
Of course, the moment you stepped out of the tardis, the dread filled every spore of your body and mind. You were paralyzed by it that you nearly collapsed.
The Doctor has that look again on her face as she stared at you with sorrow. She told you to stay behind on the tardis and this time you didn't fight her on it. You recognized you are a liability currently.
As you waited for the Doctor and the fam to return, you summoned the tardis voice interface again and tell it your fears. The hologram just stood there listening to your rants.
You beginning to regret not going with the Doctor as hours passed by and no news from them. Your heart is clenched by the worry of losing the Doctor and the fam.
"They will return soon. They have to be. This is the tardis. The Doctor always return here...eventually. They will be okay." You repeated that to yourself like a mantra.
And you could finally be relieved of your stress when the door of the tardis opened up to reveal the Doctor. But, she was alone.
Your face filled with pain as you thought of the worst. But, she quickly reassured you that Yaz, Ryan and Graham are okay. They were back on earth with another tardis. You were puzzled and asked her what has happened.
The Doctor smiled brightly at you. It has been a while since last she smile so freely. She was about to explain when an alarm sounded loudly inside the tardis. Next thing you know, a bunch of Judoon were inside the ship and they were talking about how the Doctor is a fugitive to justice.
Without thinking you stepped into the oncoming laser beam one of the Judoon shot the Doctor with. You and the Doctor materialized somewhere else, a prison in some galaxy. The Doctor is quick to catch you as you lost your balance as you are feeling disoriented.
She reprimanded you for your reckless thinking. "That laser beam could have been anything. You could have died or worst splintered in pieces." She sounded angry.
You didn't bother to defend yourself as you tried to compose yourself as you took on the new surrounding. "Where are we?"
The Doctor is displeased for the change of topic but answered your question. She yelled at the ceiling, wanting to talk to whoever in charge of the prison.
  There is no answer.
"At least we are together." You replied.
She glared at you, making you flinch.
For the next few hours, the Doctor is busy observing the prison she was in and sometimes yelling at the ceiling but she was ignored.
When someone come in to give a tray of food for one person, the Doctor is quick to demand a meeting but that person ignored her too. She told you to eat the food for you both are going to here for a long while it seemed. You ate a little, leaving a generous amount for the Doctor.
The Doctor is busy talking to herself and generally giving you a silent treatment much to your dismay.
It was the next day someone come in and gave a prison suit for the Doctor to change into. The Doctor is quick to point at you, telling them they made a mistake in regard of you. The person seemed surprised to see you as the room supposedly a solitary prison made for one person and agreed to talk to their superior.
It was another day before the door suddenly opened and two Judoon come in to read the Doctor's sentence. The Doctor interrupted them, wanting to negotiate your release.
You were uneasy that she keep demanding your release and made no mention of defending herself.
The Judoon glanced at you and nodded at each other before one of them stepped forward to grab your arm.
The Doctor stepped in front of you demanding to know what action they will take in regard of you. She wanted to be sure that you would be return safe and sound back on earth or at least on her tardis.
The Judoon pushed the Doctor away from its path and made a grab at you.
You were scared, not wanting to be apart from the Doctor. She warned you not to fight them so you followed the Judoon out of the room while the Doctor continued talking with the other one.
That was the last you saw of the Doctor.

You were pushed into a room and was left there for hours. It was a smaller room and looked like some interrogation room. You tried to talk to anyone you see there but they mostly ignored you. You paced back and forth as you bite your lips nervously.
You can't keep track how long you were there but suddenly the door opened and entered an eye-patch lady with a twisted smile on her face. She wasn't alone. There is a military man with her and someone dressed like a doctor.
"Hello, (yn) (ln)." The lady greeted you with a grin. "It has been a while."
You were confused as you never see the lady before in your entire life. "How did you..."
"...know your name? My dear, I made you." She answered with a creepy smile.
  You frowned in confusion.
"You have done well in regard of the Doctor."
You have a bad feeling toward this lady and the way she mentioned the Doctor with contempt made you realized she must be an enemy of the Doctor. You took a step back away from her.
The lady nodded at the man dressed as a doctor and he walked toward you.
  You stared at him warily.
"Ceres, would you like your treatment now?" he said gently at you.
The reaction is immediate. All tension left your body as you mechanically answered, "Yes, please."
The man gently pulled you to him.
"I want to see everything she collected so far from her times with the Doctor." Madam Kovarian instructed the man.
  The man obeyed.
The colonel glanced at you and then at Madam Kovarian. "What about the Doctor? She would have try to find out about her whereabout."
The unforgiving, evil smirk on her face nearly tore her lips apart. "Fabricate something. Let's just say that little (yn) here is mistakenly executed after a case of misidentify. Leave a vague trail with the cover up for our dear Doctor to find. Let her suffer for the death of a friend." She said with disdain. "Get her someone to blame, a scapegoat. The oncoming storm would want revenge, let her get it."
The colonel nodded his head and made the preparation needed.
  7777
You blinked your eyes as awareness finally returned.
A young man smiled down at you.
  "Did I fall asleep?"
  "For a little a while."
  "Can I go now?"
  "Go ahead."
You nodded as you slowly left the room.
"Oh, Ceres." The young man suddenly called out.
You turned around to face him in a very serene manner.
He smiled genuinely and said, "Welcome back."
You smiled before leaving him without any care in the world. You greeted a few other people on your way out with a kind smile.
As you left, Topher turned to the other occupants in the another room. Adelle and Madam Kovarian stepped into the room. Topher gave the intimidating lady what she wanted, a black box containing your memory and feeling, everything you see and heard as (yn) (ln).
Madam Kovarian look pleased with herself. She has yet to determine whether the information she gathered on the Doctor will be useful but one thing she knew, she could use (yn) as a weapon against the Doctor for she knew the Doctor's weakness has always been his/her companion.
"It is a pleasure doing business with you, Madam." Adelle replied with a smile but it was uneasy. She doesn't trust the woman but she seemed to have friends in high place for she was able to locate the dollhouse and even borrowed one of her active dolls for a long term of period. She tolerated her only because she donated a generous large amount of money for the corporation.
"I might have the need to use that girl once again in the future." Madam Kovarian said.
  "Of course."
  7777
After Jack broke her out of prison, the Doctor is filled with dread upon meeting the fam and realized you were gone. Before she could investigate on your disappearance, the fam has warned her of Daleks invasion on earth. Despite worrying about you, the Doctor had to focus on solving the current crisis.
At the end of the day, against Jack's protest, the Doctor actually planned to break in back into the prison, wanting to find out the prison record on you. As Kovarian predicted, she did find the trail of a cover up for prisoner 1423588. She froze after she uncovered the details and the fact there is nothing left of you to find.
Jack, Yaz, Ryan and Graham froze at the fury emanating from the Doctor. They couldn't even properly grief for their fallen friends as they scrambled around trying to calm the oncoming storm.
She was frightening. Her friends are all afraid of her, save for Jack who understood the kind of loss she is feeling.
Yaz has begged her not to leave her behind again. Ten month has been an agony to her. However, to Ryan, what happened to (yn) is the last push he needed to actually left behind the world of the Doctor and Tardis. Graham, not wanting to left Ryan alone, also left with him. But they are all worried for the Doctor.
For their sake, the Doctor lies that she will be okay, that she understood that (yn) wouldn't want her to do anything reckless. She was heartbroken by yet another loss of friends.
Jack also stayed with Yaz on board of the tardis. Unlike the others, Jack knew the Doctor lies, she always lies. After Yaz is asleep, he volunteered to help her in her quest for revenge so he could watch over her and maybe pull her back if she went too far.
  7777
You were imprinted with the identity of someone called Adalind. You were supposed to attend a party in a hotel with your pretend fiance. But thing get out of control when alien crashed the party.
The Doctor, Yaz and Jack were there to answer some distress signal from said alien.
"(yn)?" The Doctor called out in almost awe. She felt like she was being punched in the gut when she saw you.
"Sorry? I think you mistaken me with someone else." You replied in polite manner. You were different, you have different hair colors and eyes. You were dressed elegantly. You looked confident and comfortable with yourself.
"(yn)..." The Doctor clutched your arm insistently.
You forced a smile at her. "I'm sorry, I'm not (yn), my name is Adalind."
"You...really are not (yn)?" Yaz asked hesitantly. She was shocked with your appearance.
You shook your head as you pulled the Doctor's hand off you.
The Doctor pulled her sonic screwdriver to scan you but to her surprise, the conclusion is inconsistent. A more thorough scan revealed that Adalind is definitely not (yn), different brainwave pattern and all. Her hearts broke at the result. But, of course, she should have known there is no way (yn) could be alive. But, she still suspect Adalind. Could she be an echo of (yn) like what happened to Clara? But the brainwave pattern...
Jack and Yaz are quick to distract the Doctor with the distress signal they have come for in the first place and it worked, for the duration of the mystery, the Doctor is able to push the thought of Adalind out of her mind.
Adalind and the rest of the guests were interrogated by the Doctor when someone suddenly dropped dead.
Yaz had talked to Adalind's fiance and she thought he was suspicious for his reluctant to talk about how she met Adalind. She told Jack about it and he agreed he seemed fishy.
Jack had flirted with Adalind but was quickly stopped with a mean glare from the Doctor.
After a series of events, the Doctor finally is able to solve the crisis and save most of everyone in the hotel included the alien in question.
The Doctor, Yaz and Jack had spoken with Adalind and they like you enough to warrant invitation onto the Tardis. Of course, the truth is, the Doctor is wanting to investigate more on Adalind's similarity with (yn).
However, Adalind, despite your friendliness with them, has refused the offer 'opportunity of a lifetime' as you had deduced their ulterior motive regarding a certain (yn). Yaz had gave you her number in case you changed your mind.
Adalind bid the three of them goodbye and left the hotel alone without the fiance.
Unbeknownst to you, you were followed. You walked alone for a long while before a black van suddenly stopped near you. A man got out of the van. "Ceres, would you like your treatment now?"
"Yes, please." You answered immediately and the man led you inside the van.
The Doctor, Yaz and Jack is quick to use the Tardis to follow the van. Thankfully, Jack apparently has put a tracker on Adalind when he is flirting with her. The Doctor is impressed with him.
  7777
Topher has just finished the usual procedures of erasing the Adalind imprint and returning you to default Ceres personality. Your caretaker has also informed him on the unexpected variable during your current engagement and he had called Adelle on it when he found elaborate tracker on your person.
When Adelle is informed that the unknown variable has called you with the name (yn), she cursed. She would have to call on that unpleasant woman again regarding the imprint (yn) (ln).
You were oblivious to the tension above as you serenely making an origami paper much like a child.
Somewhere within the building, the tardis materialized inside as the Doctor and companion got out to inspect the surrounding curiously.
The room screamed zen mood all over the place. There are people who were doing stuff like meditating, drawing, making flower arrangement, etc. But, they didn't seem concerned or alarmed at the appearance of the tardis or the three strangers.
"What is this place?" Yaz asked out loud.
Jack noticed on the railing above, a young woman dressed as a dominatrix walked to a room but not before winking at him. "I like it."
The Doctor, however, laser-focused on locating you and she finally spotted you, seated on the floor in front of a small table, smiling as you made origami. She quickly approached you and called you Adalind but you weren't responsive to that name.
You finally noticed the three strangers that are staring at you. The blonde woman looked sad as if someone shot her puppy so you offered her your finished origami.
She smiled at you but you think her smile still sad. She asked your name as she bend her knees before you.
  "I am Ceres." You replied.
  "Ceres..." She repeated.
An alarm sounded loudly. A set of man and woman dressed in black suit immediately surrounded the room, pointing their gun on the strangers. The other caretakers herded the rest of the people inside the room to evacuate to another room.
The Doctor noted these people are almost childlike, not showing any fear or anxiety at all, as they were led away from there. She had prevented you from leaving when you are about to make your move too like the rest of the dolls.
Adelle stepped into the room and stared hard at the intruders.
The Doctor pulled her psychic papers and as Adelle read into it, she groaned and instructed the guard to back off.
"They have VIP invitation from Rossum." Adelle said in annoyance. "I really wish they warned me before letting VIP guest into the building." She led the Doctor, Yaz and Jack into her office.
The Doctor wanted you to stay with her but she has to find out more about this place from Adelle and it wouldn't do to alert them of her intention with you.
  7777
Adelle offered the guests a bourbon for a drink but they refused. The blonde woman seemed to be in charge and is very eager to find out what the Dollhouse has to offer.
The Doctor introduced herself and her companion.
Adelle has revealed that she knew that they made use of a psychic paper, she was warned of it but she saw no harm in telling them about the Dollhouse. After all, in a short a while, they would no longer be her problem.
"Who warned you of it?" The Doctor asked her but she only smiled.
The Doctor and Yaz look horrified after her explanation of the purpose of the Dollhouse.
"I know some people have reservation about our Actives. Robot. Slaves. Mosty, people think they are very good liars. They are, of course, the opposite." Adelle started her speech. "An Active is the truest soul among us."
"The only way to imprint a human being with a new personality is to remove their own. Completely." The Doctor said in horror.
"But they are not gone. We made a backup of all their original personality. The Actives here are under five-years contract with us. After five years, we will return them to their original personality with a few tweak as they wanted on our contract. They left here a rich person and no longer have to deal with whatever issues they have before they entered a contract with us." Adelle said. "We eased their suffering."
The Doctor demanded to see the technology they used on these people.
They met Topher who animatedly explained with a smug look on his face about the machine. He was surprised when the Doctor is able to keep up and talk technology babble on par with him. He was impressed with the Doctor and her with him.
"Is that what happened to (yn)?" Yaz asked. "Did she entered a contract with you?"
Adelle looked almost sorry to tell them the truth.
"She is not real, is she?" The Doctor said. "She is an imprint."
"The real (yn) (ln) has died a long time ago. But we were requested to copy her brainwave pattern, apparently, she fits some criteria that our client wanted." Topher revealed.
"Some criteria...funny, kind and brave...exactly my type..." The Doctor snorted in derisive. "The exact companion I can't resist..."
Both Yaz and Jack stared at the Doctor in confusion and dread as they realized someone ordered one of these Actives, imprinted with a personality of some dead woman that they think will catch the Doctor's interest...as a spy?
"Who is the client?" Yaz demanded.
"That is classified." Adelle has said.
The Doctor snorted. "You already blabber your mouth about all of these, why keep that one a secret?"
"This is not personal to me, Doctor, I don't know or care who you are. You are our esteemed client problem and she is on the way here to see you. You will soon find out who it is." Adelle said.
Yaz and Jack look nervous at the mention of the said client coming for them.
The Doctor glared at her firmly. "I want to talk to (yn). Imprint her back to...Ceres."
"We can't. The imprint on (yn) (ln) is no longer in our hands. We handed it over to the client per her request."
"Well, that is not entirely true."
Adelle turned to glare at Topher. "You didn't."
"I made a backup, backup of the imprint." Topher sheepishly grinned, sorry-not-sorry.
Adelle rolled her eyes in fondness at the young man as he grabbed something from the vault of black boxes of imprints and located the imprint he wanted.
You were led back into the room and into the machine where the Doctor and companion witnessed for the first time how the machine worked.
  7777
You woke up to the concerned face of the Doctor and Yaz.
"Doctor? Yaz?" You blinked in confusion. "Where am I?"
Jack stared at you in pity.
"What was the last thing you remembered?" The Doctor asked.
"I was with you and then I was in the interrogation room. There was a woman." You tried to recalled your last memories.
"Tell me about the woman. What does she look like?" The Doctor requested.
You described the woman and blanched at the fury on the Doctor's face as she, in disdain, uttered a name.
  "Kovarian."
The Doctor explained in brief that Kovarian has a grudge on her and if she is coming to the building, they would have to expect a fight on their hands.
Jack brought gun and ready for a fight.
You were confused by the whole thing and demanded explanation.
The way the Doctor glanced at you, like she was disgusted or sad, you didn't understand what to warrant you that expression. She can't still be mad at you for jumping in front of the stupid laser beam, can she?
Eventually, they told you the truth.
You were having a hard time believing them. "I am real! Not an imprint!" You yelled at them in denial.
You saw that the Doctor truly believe that you are not real, that everything you experienced together are all lies. You were angry and sad. You left the room, unable to face the Doctor any longer. You cried on the stairs away from everyone.
If it was all fake, a fabricated everything, why does it feel so real? Your feeling is real and valid and you realized right now you are hurt by the Doctor and it hurts so bad it has to be real. How can they say that?
You couldn't believe the true you, the original personality, has given up on your body and mind, to be a plaything of people for five years. Given that you are on loan for some enemy of the Doctor that probably has time travel on their hands meant that for you it might already be longer than five years.
"Why woud I do that?" You asked yourself out loud.
"You could no longer live with the consequence of your own action." Adelle answered for you. "And you no longer have to."
"What could be so bad that I, that she would do that?" You asked her.
She didn't answer at first. "Do you really want to know?"
You glanced at her, at her serious expression on her face and realized you are afraid to find out about the original you because that would be like admitting that you are not real and you are not ready.
Suddenly a bunch of men dressed like an army entered the building, quick to block the all possible way out.
  Adelle sighed in exasperation.
  7777
Jack was able to escape the resulting chaos as the Doctor and Yaz surrender to face the client they have been waiting for.
"You really have a perchance to ruin my plan, don't you, Doctor?" Kovarian look annoyed at the fact the Doctor found out about (yn) before she could use you against her and that she doesn't even surprised to see her again.
You and the Doctor glared at the woman.
"Hello, Kovarian, colonel run-away." The Doctor coldly greeted them.
The colonel twitched at the cursed nickname the oncoming storm has bestowed upon him for his part in kidnapping Amy and Melody Pond.
Kovarian glanced at the Doctor and then at you. "I see you get (yn) back after all." She glanced at Adelle and Topher in disapproval. "What do you think of my gift to you, Doctor?"
The Doctor glared at the woman. "What do you hope to accomplish from using her?"
Kovarian smiled menacingly at the Doctor. "I suppose it is no longer matter since you already found out that (yn) here is a fake."
You bristled at that. You were angry and ready to snap back at the stupid eye-patch lady but to your surprise, the Doctor pulled you away from the woman.
"You got me now. What are you gonna do about it?" The Doctor taunted her instead.
Kovarian smirked. "Oh you will find out." She suddenly recite something in that flat tone of her, a twisted version of the tick tock goes the clock that the Doctor recognized but instead of using River's name, this time, it was yours.
The reaction is immediate as you clenched your head in pain.
"Oh shit." Topher recognized it as a sleeper mode within an Active, probably a combat-ready personality one.
Yaz grabbed onto you, worrying about your state but Topher warned her to step away from you.
  You stared blankly ahead.
"What have you done, Kovarian?" The Doctor demanded even though she already guess what happened to you.
You walked toward the colonel who gave you a gun and you proceed to point the gun at the Doctor.
The Doctor was able to duck thankfully. She was correct, after all. Of course, she is going to use you as a weapon like she did with River.
Yaz, Adelle and Topher also duck on the floor.
You stride in confident as you commanded the Doctor to kneel.
Having a gun pointed at her, the Doctor has no choice but to obey.
Suddenly a different sound of alarm ringing through the building and it made you groaned in pain and you were knocked out cold.
Topher realized it was emergency alarm that will immediately wiped every imprints in the building and since you are currently an imprint, you were effected too.
Before anyone can do anything, there is a blackout and the shooting started causing chaos.
The Doctor crawled near Yaz and covered her with her body.
When the blackout is over, the Doctor looked up and froze when she saw River and Jack together with guns, incapacitating Kovarian men.
"Hello, sweetie." River greeted the Doctor with her usual flirty tone. "Loving the new look."
Jack has somehow get into the tardis and asked it for help in getting more people to rescue the Doctor and the machine has led him to the Doctor's wife.
The Doctor is momentarily distracted by the appearance of her wife. She is happy to see her again despite knowing the heartaches she would later feel again, having to say goodbye and return her beloved wife to the correct timeline and erased River's memory of her current incarnation.
Kovarian has lost once more to the Doctor and River. She is pissed but there is not much she can do except apparently destroy the imprint (yn) she has on her person, essentially killing the chance for (yn) to return or so she hopes. She was petty and she wish to hurt the Doctor anyway she can.
The Doctor glanced forlornly at the destroyed piece of tech that carried (yn) within. To tell the truth, she has no idea if she would want to bring (yn) back again.
You slowly woke up to Yaz's concerned face. "Did I fall asleep?" You asked her.
Yaz's face fell at that. She recognized Ceres for her childlike look.
"For a little a while." Topher answered.
You smiled at him as he helped you up.
The Doctor glanced at you sadly.
River glanced at the Doctor curiously and then at you. Jack has filled her in about you before.
The Doctor's hearts nearly tear apart when Topher had said the backup imprint of (yn) he made also got damaged during the shooting. Was (yn) gone for real now? She didn't even get to say goodbye.
She wasn't the only one who is in grief. Yaz is sad as you were her friend too.
  7777
The Doctor would have like to shut down the Dollhouse but settled on the demand for the release of the original personality of you be returned and released from the Dollhouse service. She didn't want to see you used by anyone ever again.
Adelle agreed and being generous enough to release you with more money than the contract stated.
The Doctor warned her that the tech they used is dangerous and someday some people are going to want to use it, abuse it, for their personal gain.
Adelle reassured her that she won't let that happen. She care for the Dollhouse and the Actives.
The Doctor watched as you, the real you, talked to Adelle. You looked very beautiful at that moment but she noticed the underlying pain on your eyes. She had read your file and watch your recruitment video. She knew the reasoning behind your acceptance of the Dollhouse contract.
You bumped into her and apologized politely. There is no recognition on your eyes upon seeing her.
The Doctor's hearts ached as she forced a smile at you.
You walked away without turning back, passing Yaz and Jack without so much a look.
Yaz watched you go with a look of grief on her face.
  7777
River comforted the Doctor the only way she could as she suspected that (yn) is someone dear to the Doctor. River has the damaged tech from Topher unbeknownst of the Doctor. She is hoping she could fix it and maybe lessen the pain in her wife's eyes. But she knew it was a long shot so she didn't dare to alert the Doctor of her intention.
After saying goodbye to River once more, the Doctor keep her mask in place for her companion's benefit.
Yaz wanted to check on your well being and she obliged because she has a duty of care.
They didn't approach you, only watched you from far away.
You didn't look happy but you make do. You live well with the generous amount of money on your bank account.
The Doctor and Yaz left the sight of you and back into the tardis.
The wheezing sound of the tardis caught your attention as you glanced around in curiosity before shrugging and resumed your walking.
A/N: So, yeah, finally a sort of crossover fusion of doctor who and dollhouse. It has been a while since I last watch dollhouse so I might get some fact wrong but plot holes whatever, right? November and Whiskey are my favorite characters on Dollhouse. Guess the reader's situation is similar to that of November but without the sad ending. Also, what am I even writing? I knew the plot fell flat in regard of how Kovarian going to use the reader against the Doctor. I don't feel so good now but as usual I'm just gonna post it and run away.
I hope this is entertaining enough for a good read. Thank you for reading. Hope you have a good day. Stay safe, everyone.
Where do we go from here?

Moe from the Rose post Satan PIt fic - Ten/Rose
Years of acclimating and forced to make a living, gave Rose a chance to erect emotional barriers that probably would put the Doctor’s to shame. She did her best to smile at Ida who really had tried to help Rose. Friends were not something she allowed in often.
“I’m sorry we couldn’t talk more,” Ida continued. “That sector and everything that happened is still classified.” Her voice trailed off as she gave Rose another soft pitying look. Which was about all Rose could stand.
“Thanks. And speaking of jobs, I’ve got to head out. Sorry, but Commander Nelson runs a tight schedule. Only two more shifts and I’m off to an Earth colony, New London.”
Ida gave her a broad smile and a nod of approval.
“Look at you, moving up. Can’t say I’m surprised. You know where I am if you need anything. And I mean anything. Okay?”
Rose nodded as her com beeped with her assignment. She waved and headed down the endless gray corridors to the line-up for her hover cart.
Relief eased tension that knotted in her back at seeing Ida again. She wondered if it was a sign. Her dreams had been more intense the prior night. Daleks and Cybermen this time. She brushed it off as she passed her mate, Serafin, a vinvocci, and focused on her rounds.
The monotony of the day lulled her into her usual state of disinterest. Other than Serafin, she didn’t have real friends on this base. Only a few co-workers she chatted with and commiserated. No one she went out with. If they even had places workers of her level could go out.
Rose yearned for fresh air and new ground beneath her feet. One more shift and she was off. In fact, she had to be packed and ready for the transport after her last delivery after her break.
Of course, as with all things, nothing went to plan. Rose got caught up in a worker strike. She barely made her transport and the base commander almost didn’t let her go given she was the only one willing to find his data cubes. It wasn’t like she wanted to do it but, she needed his authorization to leave.
On the cramped shuttle, sitting on crates with others on the budget ticket, Rose hoped New London would be better. She’d got a job offer from The Harkness Institute. The name alone had her saying yes. If nothing else than for nostalgia.
She drifted off to sleep, packed in with dozens of other people. She curled around her duffel bag containing all the possessions she owned in the universe. A few bumps and jostles combined with one person vomiting with space sickness jerked her awake. Rose didn’t know which was worse, a nightmare about the Doctor screaming in agony or the space vomit stench.
Two days, putrid conditions worsening each day, they finally landed in New London. No air smelled so sweet, even if laden with that typical acrid metallic space residue in the port. Or the decontamination mist everyone was required to undergo before passing through immigration.
“Name, species and business in New London.” The bored uniformed human official reminded Rose of a trip she and Shareen took to France and how long the lines were to enter the country. Bureaucracy really didn’t change.
Thanks so much for the Ask.

Dinner at Criri XEE8
Tumblr media
Rating: G
Chapters: 1/1
Summary: Feeling guilty for the events of Into the Dalek, the Doctor decides to take Clara out for dinner. It doesn't go quite as planned....
Notes : This was an idea I had in mind to do for a good few months and I'm especially happy to see it finally come to fruition.
Read this story on another platform:
Archive of Our Own
“See you tomorrow!” was what Clara told the teacher passing her on her way out of the classroom.
Another day, another attempt to get the children to learn. Today wasn’t so bad though, actually. She actually had a bit of fun. The students were attentive. Courtney wasn’t that annoying, and she finished her lesson ahead of time. It was pretty nice. She breezed past a few students as she made her way to her favorite spot after school, at least on Wednesdays. But before she reached there, she remembered she promised Danny she’d sort out something for a field trip. No problem, she’d just meet the Doctor and tell him she’ll be back in a minute. She opened the door to the supply cupboard and, just like the week before, met the Doctor standing right in front of her, looking… a bit nervous if she was honest.
“Hi.”
“Hi. Ready to go?” the Doctor asked, shuffling awkwardly.
“In a minute. I just need to sort out something with Danny first.”
“Who’s that?”
“Co worker. You don’t know him… yet.”
Sounds boring. I need you now. Come on, come on, come on.”
“Alright. Alright. What’s gotten into you? Whatever you have planned for us, can wait. I just need to-“
“I’m taking you out for dinner!”
A sly smile appeared on Clara’s face. “Oh... Oh, this I have to hear.”
“Well, come inside then.”
The Doctor quickly moved inside, with Clara following closely behind. The Tardis was set into flight and he stood at the console, hands in his pockets. Clara, meanwhile, sat on a chair, arms folded, hoping that whatever this was, was worth it.
“The restaurant is kinda fancy so it’s better if you dress more appropriately.” He advised her.
“Ah, ah, ah. I’m not going anywhere until I get an explanation for the sudden desire for taking me out for dinner. Explanation now please.”
“You maybe want to do your hair as well. It’s been looking kinda weird lately.”
“Doctor? Explanation.”
“Fine. I... I know I messed up with the Dalek stuff last week. I should have been more mindful of you. I don’t think I deserved the slap but-“
“I beg to differ.”
“But.... I deserved the telling off.”
“You got there in the end though, which was good.” Clara told him with a smile.
“So....in order to make up for that, I felt that we could maybe head out for dinner at a restaurant.“
“And what is this restaurant you’re so keen to take me to?”
“Well...it’s not particularly a restaurant in itself. More a restaurant planet. Criri XEE8, the best of its kind in the entire universe, at least that I know of.”
“Hmmm... that sounds awfully like you want to take me out on a date....” Clara teased, with a smirk.
“No, no! This is not a date!”
“Haha! What is it then?”
“It’s.... an outing to a restaurant to make up for the mistake I made last week.”
“So you’re trying to make me feel better about last week...by taking me on a date?....”
“I told you it’s not a date...” he said, a red hue appearing on his cheeks, which only promptly made Clara giggle when seeing it.
“Some things never change. The Doctor and his snog box taking girls to fancy restaurants after he nearly gets them trapped inside a Dalek.”
“It is not a snog box! Look, do you want to come on not?”
“What happens if I say no?”
“Then I..I... we’ll go to a Nando's instead.”
“Hmm, I do like a good Nando's chicken though...”
“Clara.."
“Fine. We’ll go to your restaurant planet. You best give me a good time there after what happened with the Dalek.”
“I had no intention to do anything less.”
Clara gave him one more sly smile before heading inside the Tardis halls to head to her room to change. The Doctor went to the Tardis’ scanner screen and just cleaned up his suit a bit (He wasn’t going to change; he looked perfect already in his mind.) He sighed as he finished, pondering Clara’s assertions earlier.
“Hmmm... that sounds awfully like you want to take me out on a date....”
Was it a date? He was taking her out to dinner. In all his lives, that usually involved taking the person out on a date. But he was sure he didn’t want to take her on a date. It was just a nice outing between friends, right? Right? But what if he wanted it to be a date?…. No. It can’t be that. He made a promise. He made a vow to himself and to Clara, and he was going to stick to it.
“Clara, I’m not your boyfriend.”
As much as he wanted to, he couldn’t be…. that for her. Not anymore, not how he is now. Maybe one day? Maybe when the next change comes. Hopefully, she’d still be there by that point. Maybe then he can be the man she deserves…
His thoughts were interrupted by Clara’s voice as she came out of the halls, attired for the location they were going to. She appeared in a stunningly beautiful dress, her makeup light but on point and her hair done up nicely. She even had a shawl to complete the look.
“Right. I thought this was a good choice, but I’m due for some second opinions on it. The Tardis wasn’t much help in that department. So, how do I look?”
The Doctor wanted to use several adjectives that he used for only the most attractive things he knew. But he bit his tongue, and remembered his promise and vow, as much as hurt.
“Fine.”
“That’s the best I’m gonna get, so I’ll take it. Come on, let’s go.”
_____________________________________________________________
The Doctor offered his arm to join and Clara did so, and with a smile (and a tiny blush), the two left the Tardis and made their way towards the restaurant. The restaurant wasn't that much different from any ones on Earth, but it was when they got inside, did Clara realize its alien nature. The patrons and the staff were a mixture of several different species and shapes and sizes and colours. They met up with the waiter at the front, a blue skinned alien himself.
“Good evening. How may I help you?”
“Ah, hello. Good evening. I made a reservation, under the name, John Smith.” The Doctor said, as Clara rolled his eyes with a smile at him using his human name.
“Let me check... Ah, here we are. John Smith, party of two.”
“That’s us.” Clara said, excitedly, ready for the dinner.
“Right this way, please.” The waiter told them, as he took them to their seats, a nice window table at the further end of the restaurant, away from a lot of the crowds, much to Clara’s surprise.
“Wow, these seats are great. How did you get them?”
“Benefit of time travel. I went back in time and made the reservation months ago.”
“Well, I must say, it was worth it.”
“So you like it?” he asked, as his eyes widened in hope.
“Oh yeah. This place is pretty swanky and cool. I’ve been in places like this before, but you know, it usually wasn’t full of aliens.”
“I just wanted to do something nice, like I said, to make up for what happened last week.”
“Honestly, I forgave you for that almost instantly. I just was a bit angry at that moment, and a bit worried.”
“…. Why worried?” the Doctor’s eyes narrowed onto Clara’s, as his head tilted.
“Sigh.. I just... wasn’t sure if you’d be able to get us out of that situation. That’s all.”
“It’s not like we’ve not encountered worse before.”
“I know... but... I’m just a bit wary, you know? After what happened with that half face man.”
The Doctor’s countenance dropped as Clara reminded him of that, the blood slightly drawing away from his face. If she was honest, that moment kept Clara awake that whole week. Constantly worrying, wondering if that moment was a sign of things to come. What if it wasn’t just a plan next time? What if he really did leave her in danger to save himself? She didn’t know what he was capable of in this regeneration. Deep down in her gut, she felt, or hoped, that he was still the same bowtie lover he always was and that he’d always be there for her. But she… couldn’t rely on her gut now. Not with how he was these days.
“Oh.... I...” was all he could muster, knowing he had no argument against it.
“Look. I know that you did what you had to do, and you did save me. But I just wished you had just told me what the plan was. I was so scared. So terrified that you’d never come back for me.”
Not knowing what else to really do, the Doctor put her hand on Clara’s. It wasn’t instant or immediate; he eased it onto her. He knew that they weren’t at the level they used to be, but he could still comfort and be there for her, in whatever way he could.
“… I can’t apologize enough for that. I just... might have expected that you’d just know, know that I was coming back… I thou-”
“Well, you thought wrong. We’re not at that level right now, ok?” she said, slightly angered as her voice rose.
There was a brief silence between them. She sighed. She was a bit rude there, and she knew it. She took his hand and gave it a quick squeeze.
“Sorry. Just… don’t do it again, please. From now on, we tell each other everything when we’re on our travels. That way, we can keep tabs on each other and not have the other worrying.”
“Yes, ma’am.” He said, with a faux salute and a smile.
“Hopefully you listen to your teacher for once, haha. The Tardis showed me your grades.“
The Doctor silently swore under his breath, vowing to give the ship a good talking to, while Clara continued laughing, the two of them settling in. The two sat in silence again briefly, just enjoying the atmosphere, before the waiter from before brought them their menus.
_____________________________________________________________
“I suppose you can give me some advice on what to order. You’re the one with the diverse palette.” She said, confused at the meals on the menu.
“I mean there should be human food available too if you like.”
“Nope. You were kind enough to bring me here, so I will try something different. Something new.” She said, with a longing glance at him that went unseen.
“Right then. Ummm, for a starter we can try Pasteurized Gurlites sparkles. Not too heavy, and tastes really nice. Don’t let the sparkles name confuse you, they’re not that sweet.”
“Uh-huh. Main course then?” she said, eyes still perusing the menu.
“Well, there’s the Steamed Volcers lattuces. River and I had them once, and they were delicious. That’s a good choice.”
“Yep. Dessert then?”
“I mean, can’t go wrong with ice cream.”
“Right....”
“Found anything else you’d like to try instead?”
“That’s the thing. Outside of ice cream, I’ve not seen any of the dishes you mentioned.”
“What?! Let me see.” The Doctor said, taking the menu from her, “That’s... strange. You’re right.”
“I usually am...”
“The waiter must have given you the wrong menu. Let me get you a different one. “
“No, no. I’ll do it.” She told him as she called the waiter over to their table.
“Yes, Ms?”
“I’m afraid you may have brought me the wrong menu. If you’d be so kindly as to just change it, please.” She informed him with a smile.
The Doctor handed over the menu to the waiter who took it and went to walk away, but as he took a brief look at it, he returned to the table, which slightly perplexed the Doctor and Clara.
“No, this is the right menu, Ms.“
“No, it’s not. It’s not got any of the foods on his menu, bar a few exceptions.”
“Well, yes, because it’s a children’s menu.”
The Doctor snickered upon hearing that, knowing exactly why the waiter may have given her that menu, but Clara gave him a mean look which got him to quiet down. He wasn’t wanting another slap in consecutive weeks. She began to breathe in and out deeply, getting angry, but calmed herself down. It was just a mistake; she had to remind herself. That’s all it was.
“Ok...so you made a mistake. No big deal. We all do. It happens. Now, take it back and get me a different menu. I am not a child, so I would need the adult menu.”
“Oh....” the waiter said, his eyes widening.
“Oh.... what?”
“It’s just that on my planet, only children are as short or shorter than you. Ms.”
After already having her nightmares of being left by the Doctor dredged up and that fear and worry returning to the surface, needless to say, Clara did not take that well.
“How dare you? How dare you? My friend and I, out of the goodness of our hearts, decide to give this restaurant a chance. Out of all the ones we’ve could have gone to. We chose this one, and this is how you treat me.”
“Well, Ms-“
“You decided without any kind of interest or care in anything that you’d make an assumption, a guess about me, purely because of my height. Not even because of customs on my planet, but because of prejudices based on your own.”
“But Ms...”
“What?!”
“... You are still short.”
The Doctor’s involuntary wince upon hearing the waiter’s last statement showed he knew what was coming next. Now the entire restaurant’s eyes were on Clara and the waiter, having gotten their attention a few minutes ago. Clara smiled strangely and giggled. The Waiter smiled back, thinking that the worst was over, but boy, was he wrong.
Clara simply rose out of her chair, took a deep breath and.... jumped onto him, grabbing his lapels, and forcing him to the ground. Before she could do any further damage, the Doctor pulled her away.
By that point, the head of staff arrived on the scene. He surveyed the situation quickly and without hesitation threw out the Doctor and Clara. The two found themselves back in the Tardis, with their stomachs grumbling, kicked out of the restaurant, and hopefully without an assault charge in Clara’s name. When they arrived inside, Clara simply sat down, put her hands on face and sulked, sighing. _____________________________________________________________
“I messed up, big time.”
“Yeah, you did.”
“I should have acted much better.”
“You should have.”
“I’m really sorry.. For ruining your perfect night.” She said, putting her head down in shame.
The Doctor walked over to her, and in a rare show of confidence, put his arm around her in a small hug, before releasing it immediately. “It’s alright. I forgive you. Besides...I’m kinda glad you did that.”
“What....? Seriously?”
“Yeah! Honestly, that place really wasn’t my style. Too fancy. I only did it because I thought it would make you happy.”
“Thanks. That was really sweet of you. But surely, you weren’t happy with my little... uproar.” Clara said, unconsciously leaning into the Doctor’s shoulder, which he didn’t seem to take notice of.
“On the contrary, I loved it. It’s only through instinct that I pulled you off.”
“You’re kidding.”
“No, I’m serious. I wanted to see you deck him honestly. Only I get to make assumptions about your height.” He said with a big grin.
“Watch out, or you might get a right hook yourself.” Clara said, pretending to box as the two had a good laugh at the experience overall. Nevertheless, it did leave one question unanswered.
“So, what now, then? We can’t go back there, obviously.”
“True. I’m also still a bit hungry myself. Nandos?”
“Ha-ha. Nah. Not this time at least.... Actually, I may have an idea.”
Turned out, Clara’s idea was a lot more palatable to them than going to any restaurant. The two of them sat on the edge of the Tardis as they watched the night sky, The Doctor’s shirt was undone and his jacket off, while Clara’s heels were strewn aside and her shawl with it, as she let her hair back out. Their five star meal was a plate of jammie dodgers in between them.
“Hey, there’s a shooting star. Did you make a wish?” the Doctor said, pointing it out as it crossed the sky.
“I thought that’s something you didn't believe in?”
“Well, scientifically, there’s no way to prove that wishing on a shooting star grants wishes. There’s no real power that I know of that....” he said before stopping himself, as Clara gave him a knowing look, “Actually, yes, it grants wishes.”
“There you go.”
The two went for another jammie dodger, but their hands touched as they both reached for it, both blushing at the unexpectedness of it. Clara then moved over to lean on the Doctor’s shoulder. Not expecting it this time, he stiffened a bit, but eased into it after a few seconds.
“To answer your question, yes.”
“Yes?”
“Yes, I did make a wish.”
“And?”
Clara could only smile warmly, as she looked up at him, his attention diverted because of the sky.
“It’s already come true...”.
