The Segratgion Of Jim Crow
By Fatah Abdi, Ohio State University class of 2023
February 11, 2023
Jim Crow laws were a legalized system of state and local area that legalized raical segregation. Jim Crow law was around for a 100 years range around the post Civil War era until 1968. Jim Crow law was meant to marginalize African Americans and deny them the rights to vote, get a job, get an education, or do anything really. And any one who Jim Crow tried to go against Jim Crow law was arrested, fined, jail sentenced, beaten, and killed. The Jim Crow law began early 1865 following the ablosishment of slavery in the United States. A term that was used along with Jim Crow law was Black code. The Black code "were strict local and state laws that detailed when, where and how formerly enslaved people could work, and for how much compensation."
It was said that slavery was ended; however, that didn’t mean everything became equal. The white people still pushed against segration, and wanted to have control over African Americans. By controlling what job they have, or how much they make, they can determine how easy or hard their life is going to be. Jim Crow there were a lot of African American also being lynchd, and areas being shut off being called “white areas only”. There were times where Lousiana General Assembly passed a law that didn't allow black and white poeple to ride in the same railroads together. There were laws passed that stated black and white would be sepaate but equal called Plessy V. Ferguson. After that law was passed years later Mississippi issued a law that continued to deny black man the right to vote. It was known that Jim Crow reached everything, and it was a big crime for white and black people to be in the same area. Even those white people who weren't apart of law enforment killed African American people without any fear of the law. This is because the law was on their side, and the court system was built to benefit them, and to jail black people. There were many cases where white men would go into the homes of a black person and drag them out, and hang them.
There are times where white men would assault a black man for looking in the direction of him or his wife. There were definitely no interracial relationships whether it was friendships or a partner. There were many more things segregrated. For example "Atlanta courts kept two Bibles: one for black witnesses and one for whites'”. "Prisons, hospitals, and orphanages were segregated as were schools and colleges. In North Carolina, black and white students had to use separate sets of textbooks”. The Ku Klux Klan which returned in 1915 used venom and violence to "keep black people in their place". During World War I there were 360,000 black men who served. After their return there were 25 major race riots. White mobs still continued to mob up and lynch veterans while they were in their uniforms. Even though they served and protected their rights as Americans they were not seen as Americans or even humans.

Moe from the Rose post Satan PIt fic - Ten/Rose
Years of acclimating and forced to make a living, gave Rose a chance to erect emotional barriers that probably would put the Doctor’s to shame. She did her best to smile at Ida who really had tried to help Rose. Friends were not something she allowed in often.
“I’m sorry we couldn’t talk more,” Ida continued. “That sector and everything that happened is still classified.” Her voice trailed off as she gave Rose another soft pitying look. Which was about all Rose could stand.
“Thanks. And speaking of jobs, I’ve got to head out. Sorry, but Commander Nelson runs a tight schedule. Only two more shifts and I’m off to an Earth colony, New London.”
Ida gave her a broad smile and a nod of approval.
“Look at you, moving up. Can’t say I’m surprised. You know where I am if you need anything. And I mean anything. Okay?”
Rose nodded as her com beeped with her assignment. She waved and headed down the endless gray corridors to the line-up for her hover cart.
Relief eased tension that knotted in her back at seeing Ida again. She wondered if it was a sign. Her dreams had been more intense the prior night. Daleks and Cybermen this time. She brushed it off as she passed her mate, Serafin, a vinvocci, and focused on her rounds.
The monotony of the day lulled her into her usual state of disinterest. Other than Serafin, she didn’t have real friends on this base. Only a few co-workers she chatted with and commiserated. No one she went out with. If they even had places workers of her level could go out.
Rose yearned for fresh air and new ground beneath her feet. One more shift and she was off. In fact, she had to be packed and ready for the transport after her last delivery after her break.
Of course, as with all things, nothing went to plan. Rose got caught up in a worker strike. She barely made her transport and the base commander almost didn’t let her go given she was the only one willing to find his data cubes. It wasn’t like she wanted to do it but, she needed his authorization to leave.
On the cramped shuttle, sitting on crates with others on the budget ticket, Rose hoped New London would be better. She’d got a job offer from The Harkness Institute. The name alone had her saying yes. If nothing else than for nostalgia.
She drifted off to sleep, packed in with dozens of other people. She curled around her duffel bag containing all the possessions she owned in the universe. A few bumps and jostles combined with one person vomiting with space sickness jerked her awake. Rose didn’t know which was worse, a nightmare about the Doctor screaming in agony or the space vomit stench.
Two days, putrid conditions worsening each day, they finally landed in New London. No air smelled so sweet, even if laden with that typical acrid metallic space residue in the port. Or the decontamination mist everyone was required to undergo before passing through immigration.
“Name, species and business in New London.” The bored uniformed human official reminded Rose of a trip she and Shareen took to France and how long the lines were to enter the country. Bureaucracy really didn’t change.
Thanks so much for the Ask.

Actually usually i hate it when ya books continue with sepaate series like let it rest but the fact that ronan lynch's story kept going and we continue to see him both grow and seriously struggle with some of the same issues in that awkward sort-of-adult post high school phase!!!! cannot describe how cathartic it Was for me! The story keeps going!
#And the way the dreaming brings new and different issues like! The nature of being a yoing adult w serious mental illness/physical health is#Its not done yet! We keep going! Its a long road#Its about the only ya series that shifted to NA and said you know what tge characters are older and growing but still struggling#Especially now with being adults! And i will love it for that!

“ you’ve got the BEST guest room in the house . ” jasper said , setting down her bags at the foot of the door . having to keep up the pretence of being human over the weekend would be exhausting for all of them , but they had managed so far , so another 48 hours would be fine . && the house was big ENOUGH to allow all of the denali clan a sepaate room for the festivities . though they wouldn’t use it for their intended purposes .

Letter Meme || Accepting
015. an encrypted letter
‘Lord Leif,
I apologise in advance if this letter is an any way illegible or reads strangely, as I have written this rather hastily. I trust that August will be able to aid you, should any of my mstakes become too distracting or frequent, as I imagine they will be simple, if not foolish. It was a rushed decision on my part, to write this letter prior to leaving, but I feel it too rude to disappear without soe sort of way to exress my gratitude. I assure you, my writing is without error when I am not running short on time. It is imperative that you do not leave without reading this letter.
I must thank you, for allowing me to join your ranks, and then listining to what it is I had to say. Naturally, I cannot repeat such things here in case if this letter somehow does not end up in your hands, howeve you must know I am forever thankful to know that you still accept me regardless of the situation I was rased in. You bear information I have not told anyone else– not even Lady Ishtar or the late General Reinhrdt–, and so I pray you can understand how diificuit it ws for me to speak on such things. Nevetheless, I trust that you will keep y secret to yourself, as it is something mani noblemen have peculated on for quite some ime.
At the very lest, though the batle s not yet over, you can take sulace in the fact that Raydrik is no loger of this world. It is but a small stp towarbs freedom, but ne that was necessary– an eil that neded to be stopped. Youe bravery is no to be brused off so quickly by others, and I hope you nevar do the same. The rest of your army ought to praise you, as I kow most shall also go their wn sepaate way. I, myself, shall not be returning to Velhomer until the war’s end– doing so now would undoubtedly result in my deatn.
I shall ake my way to Bragi Twer and remain there, should you reqire my assisance. I apologise for if you still hoped I ws going to remain wth you due to how open I was in our coversation lact night.
May my Lord Bragi guide you,
Saias

Starting a Startup - Day 33 (BOD)
March 25th 2017
A New Day
I achieved a small milestone (for the past 32 days). I created a working prototype for my first idea (out of eight "mvp" hypotheses, at the moment), and I meh the deadline to apply for the YC program. The chances are extremely small, like winning a lottery, to get into YC, but at least I tried my best. If you think about it, "makig it" as a startup is order of magnitude more difficult than just getting into an accelerator program. Things are not easy...
What's Next?
First of all, now I'll need to "go out" and test the idea, the first MVP. I am not entirely sure at this point what would be the best way to do it. I cannot just grab a random person ont he street.
Second, the "prototype" app currently has some issues. It doesn't handle Angular routing well (due to Ionic's "interference"). I'll need to figure out how ot do this properly. I'll have to move the data storage to cloud, at some point. Now that I'm using PouchDB, CouchDB/Cloudant seem appealing. But, I'll need to think about it a bit more. My general preference would be using AWS (like DynamoDB), but we'll see. Also, auth is missing. I still haven't found a good, ideal, solution for my apps. (Not just for this prototype, but for the actual to do list app I will end up building.)
Microservices
I'm not entirely happy with Auth0 service I looked at last time. There don't many alternatives. I built my auth services many times before. In fact, I even built Auth as a Service framework (similar to Auth0). It was almost 10 years ago. I think it predated Auth0 or any such services. It was called "Common Auth". I was building multiple web apps/services and it only made sense to have a single auth service shared across all my services. I could have built a business around this. I almost did. Ahead of time, though. I was building "microservices" (on top of Google App Engine infra) before people were even aware of such a term. I was building a set of microservices: auth, feed parsing, html page scraping, image processing, ... you name it, I built all as separate services. I built dozens of such services. (Note that this only made sense because I didn't have to deploy them to sepaate servers. PaaS like GAE made it possible for a person like me who didn't have access to huge computing resources.)
The only problem (at this point) is that the code is tied to GAE. Obviousyly, much of the code is "portable", just Java. But, some crucial code I used (like Task Queue) was Google proprietary, and it would't be easy to "port" it to other frameworks. When you use somebody else's frameworks, you always have to think about the "vendor lockin". But, it's always tradeoff.
I feel like I'm going through the same path again. I am just amazed that there is really no good solution for as basic a service as auth.
Maybe I'm just too picky...
