I see Arcane's marketing is thrusting a lot of blue on Jinx's persona, which is fine, but also a misdirection! I argue that the use of blue on Jinx represents THE IDEA that others have of Jinx rather than representing who Jinx really is. Jinx's true color, the one she paints over those closest to her, the one that represents her is PINK. Jinx is pink!

When we see Jinx in pieces either in or out of show where blue is the predominant color in the palette it's signaling to us the audience that this the Jinx that is perceived by the world around her, which includes Piltover AND Zaun. In this essay I will---

#arcane #arcane meta #jinx arcane #it feels wrong that the she's defined by blue in the teaser and marketting and even the murals #sure it's an eye-catching color but that's not jinx #it feels almost like the same mistake vi made with the whole jinx-powder dichotomy #jinx once defined by bright blue but over time that color has gradually receded from her outfit where it's more dominated by dark hues #and purple and pink #but now this misunderstanding is on a larger scale because now jinx is a symbol and is up for interpretation #like it's very interestingbthat for all the art done of jinx none has been the right shade of blue it's either light and natural in zaun #but unnaturally cold in piltover #it's what either one wants out of jinx #but the art where jinx is truly a part of it and alive is where dark palette and bright pink take over #idk it just feels like adding more blue just washes out the depth of jinx's design #it'll probably be super annoying when jinx's bday comes and people are giving her blue colored gifts #and she'd be thinking “goodgoodgreat... my favorite color is pink”#but she won't say anything bcuz a lot of the gifts are from children or something

#haunted ecosystem #this is not helping with how much my hands hurt on a daily basis this is why i type and dont handwrite/draw very much.#im lured in regardless and i really need to find an artform that doesnt Hurt but for now. digital art <3 #like theres a difference between my dumb doodles (quick easy not much different from regular computer usage) and actual art #but im an artist at heart i spent sooooo long being an artist and thinking i was shit at writing. that is wrong! im actually kinda good #im rambling in tags today because i have been not social (my partner is in genshin hell and my beloved is. somewhere.)#okay but on another note i reread the first. couple chapters of wtds this morning? the pacing is a little weird and the tense is fucked #but its actually a lot better than i thought it was? you can tell i was fleshing everybody out in my head and i totally forgot about how #i described the watcher [who i am STILL redacting the name of until we get there] and just. ough. pandora being very logical #and then jumping to the latest chapter and fucking sobbing because i forgot about how it went and just. pandora and his.#whatever the fuck is wrong with him.#i have gotta start recommending people read that again. its surprisingly friendly without context because of how i approached it #that fic has taught me so many things its actually a little comical. it also made me relearn how to make and write ocs so thats fun #once i finish that main fic (and i WILL i am actually planning to sign up for a thing. im finishing it i swear.) i finally get to show off #more of the world and characters ive crafted. showing backstories and what-ifs and all these oneshots ive been keeping close to my chest #for like absolutely ages because i dont want any spoilers on my tumblr #and. im finishing that fic in pseudo-memoriam of somebody who deleted their accounts everywhere. still miss you dane!#ok this has completely gone off topic ily tumblr im going back to drawing and i might make a new pfp #it'll still be lavius but it'll be fray lavius since i think about him a lot and i like his color palette.

i'm going to say something bold today. i think tighnari's incoherent mess of a color palette is actually a defensible and character-essential design choice

#the loud clashing of it all is an expression in its own right #unapologetically bright and in your face #only appropriate for the face of the rainforest to be every color under the sun #it's bold! it's screaming! it feels no need to justify itself!#does it suck? maybe a little bit. but i can't deny that when it's gone it feels like something is missing #i've seen enough tighnari redesigns that simplify his palette and man they just dont hit the same #(also stop taking his damn gloves the man works with plants and plants want to destroy your hands so bad)#(archery gloves arent gonna hold up against plain old thistle)#also while im on it it is a bit of a shame whenever people take away the modern aspects of it #let him have his sportsy boots theres nothing wrong with them #hes an outdoorsy guy! cmooonnnnn #genshin stockholm syndrome kicked in so bad im a tighnari design defender now #and LEAVE HIS FUCKASS BOB ALONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep think that I need to change something about her palette.

Especially since I started with a greyscale version

Hm I think the palette itself works pretty well, the monochromatic color scheme with grey to break the pink is a good idea. I think the values are what needs focus rn, as currently the dark magenta is the darkest. I'm saying this cuz i noticed in your grayscale drawing the throat is darker shade than the lower jaw, but in the colored version the jaw is in the darker color while the throat is grey. I think you'll have to figure out whether you want to switch the colors or have the grey be darker. I think that's the stage you are rn, color placement, contrasts and values. But ofc I'm no expert so feel free to do whatever you want with this lol

#i think shape wise your character design is really strong! i hope you're able to reach a result you're satisfied with #and if you feel like something is missing from the palette you can never do wrong with a complementary color #like a green accent color #but that might not work for the character so it's all up to you

I redesigned Stalyan to fit better with the costume aesthetics of the show, and also gave her something of a personality redesign as well! I think it would be interesting if she was more of a swindler, pretending to be innocent and helpless before stabbing you in the back. also imagine how ominous it would be if her first appearance was actually all in white like a bride like girl has been obsessed w this marriage for years

#tangled #tangled the series #rapunzels tangled adventure #stalyan #tts #tts stalyan #kept all of her facial features and hair color the same bc that part was fine it was just her outfit that didn't quite match the vibe #tho i did tone down her eyeshadow and lipstick a little bc i made her palette more blue #idk her outfit was just reading a little too modern to me? like everyone else has skirts that reach at least their mid calf #also i think this makes her dynamic w eugene more interesting #bc i hc that he used to have a thing for damsels in distress #maybe thats the wrong way to put it. i just mean people that genuinely seem to need help (and are probably easily impressed)#bc he's a good guy but he's also a charmer and a conman #and its very important to me that both she and eugene tried to con each other when they first met and got to know each other #but eugene got the drop on her and got away w whatever prize he was after before she could #and so she never got to complete the sham marriage that was HER con. and that's why she's so obsessed w him #art #my art #weaverofink #man the tags got away from me. but hey the art turned out pretty good #the show has a really fun style to emulate!

I kind of got mildly obsessed with "A Girl Adrift"

I have. So much brainrot. From this little fishing game on my phone. I love playing this. Also I absolutely imprinted on the player character because the way I think of them is they are absolutely agender. Girl my ass.

under the cut, the original suggested colors -

i know it looks for "accent" shades but COME ON

all those soft subtle organic hues and it grabs ... black, and the yellow of the one light in the background? for sure they are contrasts i guess

when i see a glowing moon at twilight it definitely evokes images of ... bees??? warning signs? crime scene tape? lol

#palettes #too good to just admire passively thank you for this it's stunning #like moon sky greenery wood water stone (it think that's granite or similar) and *light*#just everything visually - but also mentally emotionally - satisying to look at #fantastic composition as well - you are so right to be proud #god i love how the moon lamp looks - i keep almost getting one for myself but other things take precedence :/#your plant looks healthy too - all of mine are either going gangbusters with little input from me or like deathly unhappy #the colors are just SO GOOD #however i will mention again how gray is just the weirdest fucking thing in digital shading #like look here: every shade of gray just glows and has subtle hues hidden in it #but when you pull out the individual shades they are SO flat and boring unless you are very careful and picky #like select the wrong area and instead of the depth and luminosity you get like ... minecraft brick or 8-bit videogame 'castle'#just the strangest thing - and it throws all the other colors off bc it looks so artificial #i guess in nature nothing is ever really a flat gray so in the human eye it hits the uncanny valley easily #and the only other time you see unrelieved flat gray is like the painted walls of institutions or whatever #for sure there are lovely soft grays but somehow without the benefit of like ... textural variation on here it's a tough selection #there's your useless observation for the day hah #seriously though thank you again for the photo - it triggered a part of my brain i haven't really been using lately

Sure! There ya go :] The funny bit about these is that I did the grayscale first, and it was wayy too brainnumbing to try and match the color to grey, so if you desaturate the file, the color greys dont match with the original grays haha
