Long live the king, Godzilla
For years, I like to say it like, “Long live the fucking king” to sound cooler ever since they were using that line. But well, it’s been years since I rewatched Godzilla King of the Monsters. The 2019 film that’s a sequel to Godzilla 2014...I have some things to say which may surprise some of you.
Tumblr media
This may sound crazy or just...I was hoping to just gush about this film. Because the many times I would talk about this film and calling it one of the greatest cinematic experiences in my life. A film I have seen four times in the theaters. And saying things like I think this film spoiled me when I felt Godzilla vs Kong felt tame and “Less epic” which says a lot...
But rewatching the film just now...I think experiencing it in a theater, and maybe the hype really got me. Again, I feel like experiencing this in a theater is the best thing ever. But now, years later...I can understand much more why people don’t like the Monsterverse itself.
I will spoil some stuff, not a whole lot. Because I know a friend of mine reads my reviews. Mainly that Bioshock one from long ago. I’m going to start off with the negative before I go into the positives. I feel like that’s better to do because I want to explain what issues I had with this film. I’m going to add a keep reading option as well.
But and I didn’t add this last night because I forgot. I went to bed, and I can’t add another keep reading option. I like Filmento and he brings up a lot of good points that I agree with.
youtube
Anyway, here’s my detailed review.
The negatives.
This film, like I have seen others said before...THIS FILM NEEDED TO BE THREE HOURS. Which may sound insane. But this film’s pacing is very bothersome. And this goes in hand with another thing that bothered me.
You know all of the complains about Godzilla 2014 of how it kept cutting away from the monster fights at times. Which it started to annoy people. I totally get that; I get the criticisms towards that. But I also understood Gareth Edwards wanted to retrain himself from showing too much of the monsters. https://twitter.com/CallMeJaiden54/status/1637358513449209857 Granted, I get why people were annoyed. Maybe a balance would’ve been better.
But KOTM’s pacing...really doesn’t help with a bunch of things. Because like others have said before. This is basically like the Godzilla Final Wars for the American Godzilla movies. And Final Wars is a kickass movie I may add. Now I want to say this funny part.
If they wanted to make it even more of a Final Wars comparison. We should’ve gotten Mark fighting Jonah in a physical fight, while Mark is beating down Jonah, you see Godzilla beating down on Ghidorah on a still working tv. You could’ve had that, and I strangely would’ve loved it. But back to the point.
The fact that this film’s pacing goes very quick, despite it’s alright...there are moments of character building. But I feel this doesn’t help the monsters and some character development. Even though I think me gushing over Godzilla 2014 was also the result of seeing a movie before that made me question what is happening to cinema. And Godzilla 2014 reminded me cinema was real again.
But the buildup to the MUTO’s and Godzilla is excellent. You get the feeling of horror, wonder and other feelings. While I do think it makes sense you don’t have to wait for long to reintroduce Godzilla because we already know him. It’s weird to talk about.
2014′s slow pacing really helps easing a viewer into the story. Even if it’s “Boring” and while the reveal of Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan are fantastic. Especially with their scores, I feel they’ve could’ve done better. Because in a way...it doesn’t feel special. In fact, while Brad Peyton’s Rampage is flawed. Even that took some time to build up certain aspects and it didn’t have to deal with multiple characters.
There’s a crap ton of new characters in here and some kind of stick around even when they don’t need to be there. And that’s a critique I agree with the Monsterverse. We need a consistent cast. While I get a post and others saying the monsters are the stars. But that’s not an excuse...because when you don’t have a consistent cast or have a couple of characters not come back. You have to introduce a bunch of new characters and if they aren’t handled right, it’s weird.
And again, that pacing. It doesn’t help character development, and it doesn’t help with the impact of certain things when you go at such a fast pace. It legit hurt the film for me. Because there’s a lot of things I like here. It may sound crazy I want a 3-hour cut of this movie, but I want that. This is a film that deserves that. And it would’ve helped me appreciate some of the big and emotional moments too.
Now, I want to talk about the positives. Granted, you’ll still hear me talk about some criticisms. But I want to get to this part.
As someone who’s loved Godzilla since I was a kid. It was mainly the Showa and Millennium eras that got me into becoming a fan. And this was my biggest positive when this film first came out. This may sound strange, but seeing the way Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan were handled in this film. To me, it felt like if you were watching a Spider-Man and Batman film for the first time. And you see that iconic comic book character treated with dignity and respect. That was the feeling I had when I saw these monsters for the first time.
While you still had the sci-fi aspect in them. The direction is more “Mythological” in a way, more so a feeling when handling these characters. “Spirtuality” is the word I’m looking for. While I can understand why people, or one person may think these three were “Nerfed” but I’m sorry. NO, THEY WERE NOT NERFED. And I can’t agree with hearing that their roars are “Generic” like what the fuck?
Godzilla is portrayed wonderfully again with respect. He’s great as well. But the new monsters, the Toho ones are fucking beautiful. This film’s portrayal of Ghidorah is legitimately my favorite of his interpretations. While Rodan could’ve had more with him, he is dealt with properly.
But I feel like the big glow up is literally Mothra herself. A character while not my favorite, I always preferred the more “Aggressive” and “Masculine” monsters you can say. But Mothra is important and the fact they were able to handle her so well in this film. While I feel like Ghidorah and Rodan were easier characters to get right. They knocked it out of the park with Mothra. They all ooze personality and their themes are legit perfect for each of them.
I want to talk about the human characters. This is actually my favorite group of human characters in the Monsterverse. And I was saddened only two of them came back for Godzilla vs Kong. Granted, I think I wanted Godzilla vs Kong to be Godzilla 3 but with King Kong. It still technically is a Godzilla 3, but with Kong more as the lead monster.
While the pacing hurts the film. The cast of Monarch here is genuinely likable. And I wished for some they were expanded upon more. With some acting more like supporting roles, and I shouldn’t use the word “NPCs” to describe them. That is a term I have wanted to use for some time. My favorites of the new characters were Rick (Who is legit funny when he is) and Chen. Also, kind of wished Barnes was showed more or just...there’s a lot of new characters here that you may lose track of them if you don’t have subtitles on or haven’t seen the film multiple times like I have before. But seriously, I liked Chen and that’s because of well...lore reasons that I wished she had more to do.
I also want to say this. I think Mark Russell, played by Kyle Chandler is maybe the human protagonist we’ve had in an American Godzilla film. Even though I think Ford was fine, he’s more of a “Passive” character. When Mark is a more active protagonist. While a flawed character devastated by the loss of his son. He is at his core a good man who still loves his daughter and ex-wife. Especially when you have moments like him going into the Artic base by himself the moment he sees Emma and Madison on footage and risking his life to find them. Along with a strong moment that still stuck with me is him going back to save a group of Monarch soldiers being left behind, despite he could have the chance to follow his family. There are other little moments like he still talks to Madison in emails. His arc is pretty fine.
Madison played by Millie Bobby Brown is fine. But her biggest moment is her stealing the Orca and using it to save billions of lives during the whole Titans attacking across the world. I don’t think there’s much of an arc for her. But it’s more of well, her making her own choices and well...this leads into the next part.
Emma is...an interesting character. She’s fine as an antagonist who then changes because she realizes what she’s done. I feel like it could’ve been done better. But knowing there is a deleted scene where...I’ll link them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQmVLpKgmGI Fuck, these deleted scenes are good.
It’s funny to me seeing the fandom having Godzilla and Mothra be Madison’s “Parents” but again, while Mark is flawed. That dude at mostly has his priorities straight.
We also have Charles Dance as Alan Jonah who I want to see again. He’s threatening when he is and commands a presence. He’s good with what he’s given.
I now want to talk about Serizawa, particularly his scene. I do agree that his character in the 2014 film, he’s a bit underdeveloped. But in all seriousness, his sacrifice to basically save Godzilla is still powerful. It’s legitimately one of the best scenes in the film. Ken Watanabe is always good with his performances. But what I hate about this is the fact while we should’ve gotten more development with him. It’s the fact we can’t use him again. And having watched this video yesterday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1ciSG9Z8o4
I’ll admit, I have wanted to make a reblog talking about how the 2014 movie could still have the similar story but making Ford less passive or something and make him as compelling as his father or something. And annoyed by people possibly wanting “Godzilla vs Heisenberg” despite how much of a good actor Bryan Cranston is. But that video...I genuinely wished that was the approach they take with Joe Brody instead. We’d still have Serizawa around, especially in Godzilla vs Kong. And having Joe sacrificing himself instead would’ve been just as powerful for not only reasons this video talks about. But also, other things I have wondered about.
There are other characters to talk about. But nothing really noteworthy in ways. Despite the sad fact you have Graham being killed all of a sudden by Ghidorah in one scene. And the colonel from the last film being killed in a deleted scene. There’s a trend with the characters from the 2014 film being killed off in this film.

Secret Invasion - Excellent performances and interesting ideas squandered with mediocre execution....
I was actually pretty psyched for Secret Invasion when the trailers came out. I didn't feel there was a whole lot of hype around the show but I was looking forward to it. After the fairly jokey nature of recent MCU, I was looking forward to the pivot towards more darker material, similar to TWS, and TFATWS. Now I didn't think TFATWS was great but it was solid and TWS is arguably my favorite MCU film to date and the trailers for Secret Invasion definitely felt like they were more that tone.
Having seen the series, it really feels like Marvel just don't have a handle on how to pace and structure their tv shows. Secret Invasion, at 6 episodes and such an intricate storyline, had no business being a slow burn show with a rushed ending. This should have been a fast paced paranoid thriller. Maybe all of it should have been set within a very short window of time. Instead, as a lot of these MCU shows have done, there are episodes where very little happens, and then there are episodes where a lot happens and it feels rushed. Given that this is now a common occurrence in the MCU tv shows, it seems obvious that the writers don't have a handle on how to pace these 6 episode series. Also, this show was oddly small for a show that was about something so big. There was a lot of sidestepping to try and explain why Fury was the person who had to be the one who stopped Gravik and why he couldn't involve some of his powered friends. While the explanation works up to a point, when the world is on the brink of WWIII, the explanation starts falling apart. Then there are certain relationships that are very essential to the emotional weight of the show, which have far too little screen time for us to really care. The marriage of Fury and Priscilla/Varra is a bond that is brought up throughout the back half of the season, but the truth is that it is treated with a sort of reverence in the show which it has not earned from the audience, which is a damn shame because Jackson and Woodard do some excellent work in their scenes together. Then there is the whole ending of the show. While they do shake up the status quo a bit, which I hope will be followed up in the next Captain America movie, there are some very dumb decisions taken as well. For example, the decision to make G'iah into a superpowered being who is ridiculously overpowered is something that will be a ramification the MCU will have to deal with for a while. Maybe they will have this make more sense in a future MCU project, but for now, it does seem strange that they made such an OP character all of a sudden. Also, the bait and switch in the finale cheapens a very fine scene. The entire scene between Gravik and Fury was actually very meaningful, but having Fury be G'iah all along makes that scene loose its emotional value because we don't know if that is what Fury feels.
The damn shame about the show is that there is actually a fair amount of stuff that is actually pretty good. There is some excellent acting work in the show. Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Don Cheadle, and Charlayne Woodard all do some excellent work on the show. The actual story of the show is interesting because we actually do genuinely see that the Skrulls have very legitimate grievances against Fury. He is a man who used the Skrulls as agents, gained power within SHIELD as a result, but did not find a new home for the Skrulls and did not have the courage to admit that finding a new home wasn't possible. And then he deserted them on Earth and went to Saber. The resentment built up in the Skrulls is totally understandable. And Jackson does an excellent job showing a much more brittle and guilt ridden man, as opposed to the confident operative we have seen in the past. His dynamic with Talos is one of the highlights of the show. Ben Mendelsohn was insanely likable as Talos and his death was honestly one of the most gut wrenching deaths in the MCU. Olivia Colman just looked like she was having a ball of a time and boost of witty energy whenever she's on screen. Don Cheadle does some of his best work. The scenes between Fury and Rhodey, both before and after Fury find out that he's a Skrull, are impeccable. Kingsley Ben-Adir does a lot to make Gravik was a very understandable villain, even though his backstory is half baked and told rather than shown. Similarly, Charlayne Woodard is excellent, even though her character gets the sort of reverence from the show which is never earned by the writing. The scenes with her and Jackson are excellent and they are able to get that "married for a long time" feel despite barely any setup. Emilia Clarke is a bit of a mixed bag. She's forced to be rather stoic throughout most of the show, so she doesn't get to stand out despite being a significant part of the show.
The tone and story of the show is interesting. The idea of infiltration and creating paranoia is a good concept and when the show leans into that, its pretty good. But the show then also tries to be a bit too big for its boots by introducing super Skrulls and attempting to start WWIII. So it sometimes feels like the showrunners and writers aren't sure what show they are trying to make.
All in all, this isn't a bad show, but it had potential to be much better. If executed right, it could have been up there with MCU's best. Its a show that actually had some major character deaths like Maria Hill and Talos, and at least seems to have rattled the status quo of the Earth and not every thing is settled by the end of the show, but the execution of how things led to that point felt a little lacking. I would say this ranks around a 5 to 6/10.

Bear review of the FNAF movie
Tumblr media
!!!SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE FNAF MOVIE!!!!
So, a few days ago me and two of my close friends went to watch the Funny Feddy Fastbear movie. While we were going mostly ironically, I wont pretend I wasn't curious. I remember back in 2015 when the first rumours were out about the FNAF movie, I was ALL OVER that shit. I spent hours in my free classes looking up the details of the film, desperate to glean any information my 2015 FNAF obsessed brain could handle.
Well 8 years on we finally got it! and was it worth it? Well...I mean...I won't lie, I don't even think 2015 Styr would've been particularly impressed, I certainly wasn't hyped, buuuut that doesn't mean I don't have positives. The movie NAILED the visuals, the pizzeria and animatronics are accurate and made with pure love, thanks to the Henson Companies hard work to replicate the designs. The lighting and scenery was also gloomy enough to really sell the run down, abandoned wonder of the setting. On that front I was honestly super impressed. What I was less impressed with was the script. Undercooked doesn't really describe it. Uncooked? Nah. ingredients assembled on the table but not mixed seems like the apt description. Great ideas that just...exist and have poor implementation
Speaking of, there is a young girl character who at first is introduced to have a form of autism. At first it seemed ok. And in a better written movie, this would be a great character to work with. A girl who is aware of the horrors of the Pizzaria however due to her struggles with communication and verbalisation, she can't communicate it, meaning she would have to find unique ways to solve the issue
Unfortunately as the film went on they just totally gave up on it. I wish they actually committed to this idea, as someone who has a connection with a more severely autistic individual I felt the movie was to scared to fully explore the concept without it being insulting. But somehow reversed uno card'd themselves and made it feel more insulting by not committing to the idea. That is only one of the myriad of issues I have with the script. Characters feel almost completely insane in some scenes when I really don't think that was the intention. The actors do ok. George Hutchenson (who I must mention, has not aged a day since hunger games) And Matthew Lillard do an absolute bang up job with their material. sadly other actors fall flat, or clearly decide this isn't a horror movie but a horror comedy and act more like cartoons then people.
Also, the Climax was the most rushed, broken, unsatisfying part of the film. Again, GREAT ideas, terrible execution in some parts. (Also...look I won't lie, introducing Vanessa and not having her even remotely take on the Vanny persona was a waste, I know they are probably saving it for the sequel but why even introduce her if you don't utilize her most interesting trait.)
All in all, its not exactly a GOOD movie, its not abysmal, I enjoyed my time while I did, I am thankful that unlike the games, the jumpscare were minimal. Buuuuuuut my issues still stand, its a great looking movie with a giant atlas stone of a script holding it back.
Numbers are dumb, buut 4/10 I guess. Enjoyable enough, but if you view it more than FNAF junkfood, you probably won't get any more out of it.
Should I do more reviews of stuff here? this felt like I got a lot off my mind. Lemmie know!

12.01.23
sooo a lot of confusing things happened.
i went to see puss in boots yesterday and the hype is so worth it! im obsessed! it was so good!!!
and guess who i invited to the cinema with me...............
yeah, i know, i don't understand either. i texted him when i was on the train from luzern and he said yes. and so we went together.
(i was being weird on the phone with my parents about it so now they think that i have a secret lover lol. like idk i just can't lie to my parents so when they asked me who i went to the cinema with i was like "nobody!!!!" and it sounded very sspicious. so yeah, they believe that im seeing someone new now. but no lol. im just back on my bs.)
after the film we decided to go get a drink (i had green tea) and we had a very strange conversation. i told him about the books ive been reading and how im slowly making my way through kundera's "immortality" but i don't understand any of it. and then we talked about immortality (bc it was also a theme in puss in boots!) in relation to fame and who gets to be famous and who will always be left in the shadows. and then we said something along the lines of "extraordinary people get to be famous and normal people don't". and then i started telling him about how i think that it didn't work out between us bc we're not normal and we need normality to balance things out.
he said that his first relationship was with a normal person and, even though she was amazing, the relationship was boring. and he said that when he realised that i was crazy he found it charming. and it made me blush.
but anyway i started telling him about my zurich friend and my normal boyfriend fantasy and how i just want to fall in love with a normal person and be normal and hold hands. and he said that my zurich friend is very far from normal and how what we had was actually a normal relationship and i was too spoiled to realise it. he predicts that im gonna realise it in the future bc im gonna meet a lot of shitty guys and regret leaving him. but it will be a good learning experience for me.
and yeah he said that im not making sense and im speaking nonsense. and i think he's right bc ever since i isolated myself from society ive just been a bit insane. like im slowly descending into madness which i think is good for me bc i really need to think and analyse things. but at the same time ive become detached from reality. and now i have all these theories about wanting a normal boyfriend and hating the balkans.
then okay girlies bear with me... i missed my last tram and..... slept over at his place... yikes, i know i know.... but he promised we were gonna sleep in different beds (spoiler: we didn't) and we were just gonna drink tea and chat (spoiler: we didn't just drink tea and chat). and uhh im not gonna go into the details but i didn't feel really good. i just felt like... annoyed i guess is the best word to describe it.
i asked him if we could be friends bc i really want to be friends with him. i want to see his future spouse and kids and i want him to see mine. and i want us to be best friends until we die. but he said that if it's definitely over between us as a couple, we're not gonna see each other again. and it made me sad. why so harsh? why can't we just admit that it doesn't work and stay friends? he wouldn't give me an answer.
this morning we talked a bit more about our relationship and normality and stuff. and he said that in order to be a better and more mature person and actually learn from the past, i need to face my fears and confront him. and we can try to be bf/gf again but make an effort this time. and if it doesn't work, at least we would've tried.
so i was thinking about that for the whole day today. weighing the pros and cons and trying to understand what is "délire" and what is actually reasonable. i feel like im missing something in my brain, i swear. why do i never know what's right and wrong? what do i want and what do i not want? i feel like im disabled or something idk.
and then all of a sudden my dad (who i haven't heard from in a while) messages me like "call me now". he's in india now and i thought it was something urgent. so i called him. and the call lasted only 10 minutes (usually he goes on and on about conspiracy theories for like an hour). and this is what he said:
"you need to get back together with B!!! he's a good man. and it's rare in our day and age. there's a slavic genocide going on. and you guys have a problem with homosexuals in europe. and B represents gender values and he's a real man, which is so rare! sure, nobody's perfect i mean look at me. but B has more pros than cons. sure he's lazy, maybe he even goes to see other hoes from time to time. but nobody is perfect and your clock is ticking. you're 23 and healthy, it's the best time to have a child! if you're still unmarried at 30, people are gonna look at you weird. marriage is a status symbol, you know, it doesn't mean anything. you can get divorced. but being divorced at 30 is so much better than never having been married. it shows that you're a serious woman. and you should try to get back with him. organise a theatrical performance or something, i don't know. and tell him that the wedding's in may so he will be keeping busy organising everything. it's better to do things you regret, than regretting not doing things. okay bye!"
what the fuck.

Tumblr media
(Loml)
✧───── ・ 。゚★: *. ☽.* :★. ─────✧
You stood backstage in front of a mirror, looking at your appearance and making sure there were no wrinkles on the dress you wore. Your hairstylist was behind you, fluffing your hair and managing the stray baby hairs on your head. You were currently at NBC Studios in New York City, about to do an interview with the infamous, Jimmy Fallon. Tingles buzzed through your skin as you heard the cheers and music from the stage. Jimmy’s voice can be heard faintly backstage, only adding to your growing excitement.
The sound of heels clicking approached you, it took less than a second for you to feel the warm presence of Florence behind you. The both of you were starring in the upcoming Black Widow movie alongside Scarlett Johansson; after months of working together and spending days hanging out, you and Florence had become very close friends. She was, without a doubt, your favorite person in the world. Since the moment you met her, she had always been the most sweetest and caring person you’ve ever met—and you were proud to say you had her in your corner.
You met Flo’s eyes in the mirror and bright smiles were instantly on your faces. Turning around, you open your arms wide, and wrap them around her. Bear hugs were a must in your friendship with Flo, you both just loved receiving hugs from each other.
“Ahhh! I told you that dress would be perfect for tonight, you look stunning!” She squealed, tightening her arms around you. A day before Jimmy Fallon, you and Flo had been at your place with your stylist, picking out which dress you should wear for the interview. The dress was casual, but the color was so ever vibrant that it made the dress pop.
You pulled out the hug and looked at what she was wearing. Her gorgeous blonde hair was curled into loose locks and her dress was just as vibrant as yours. The pink of her dress and the orange (yellowish?) of yours complimented each other. Which coincidentally enough, was a parallel of your lovely friendship with Florence.
“Me? Flo, you look gorgeous! I’m so obsessed with this look!” You help her twirl, hyping her up as she showed off her outfit. After sneaking in a little mirror selfie and posting it onto Instagram, the two of you were given a five minute warning from one of the crew members. You and Flo were moved to stand behind the curtain, waiting for your cues to walk onto the stage.
While the two of you were getting mic’d up, Florence leaned closer to you.
“Can I be completely honest with you?” She mumbled, her stare remaining on the curtain before her. Your brow raises in curiosity as your head slightly turns to look at her.
“Of course, hun. What’s up?” You ask, your attention on her. She sighs and leans even closer so only you can hear her.
“I feel like I’m about to shit my pants.” She admits, swallowing nervously. Your mouth gapes, “Did you have iced coffee too?”
Flo’s face scrunches up in confusion, “N-no! That was me telling you I was nervous! Did you have iced coffee?” She fully turns to look at you and judging by the look of guilt plastered across your face, you did in fact have iced coffee.
“Maybe?” You answer, though it came out more like a question. Florence rolls her eyes at you.
“(Y/n), how many times do you have to be reminded that you’re lactose intolerant?” She scolded you.
You scoff, holding a hand up at her, “Trust me, I’m reminded every time I sit on a toilet.” You shake your head, trying to refocus the conversation.
“This isn’t about my poor digestive system—why are you nervous?”
She sighs, “I don’t know why I’m so nervous, I’m used to doing interviews and stuff. But I haven’t been on Jimmy Fallon, and there’s an audience out there and I don’t want to mess up or accidentally spoil the movie.”
You place a reassuring hand on her shoulder, “You may be British, but you’re not Tom Holland. You won’t spoil anything.” You start. She quickly shoots you a look that screams, “you’re not helping”. You make a gesture physically telling her that you’re getting to the point.
“You’re going to be fine! I mean you did Jimmy Kimmel right? This shouldn’t be that different, it’s the same thing—just different studios, in different states, and different Jimmy’s.” You point out. She nods along as you continue, “Plus, I’m gonna be up there with you. You won’t be alone.”
With the help of your reassurance and witty little comments, Florence felt her anxiousness simmer down. They weren’t completely gone but the fact that you were gonna be up there together made her relax more. Being part of Marvel had its pros and cons. Sure, the movies are spectacular and the actors are outstanding. Though when it comes to doing promo for said movies, it can be quite stressful. It’s a known fact that Marvel and it’s executives can be quite strict when it comes to interviews with anyone involved in the making of their films—their strictness made sense, although for first time MCU members, it took some getting used to.
Florence smiles at you, “Thank you.”
You playfully nudge her shoulder with yours, “Don’t worry about it.” You say with a kind smile.
The wholesome moment was interrupted by one of the stagehands telling you and Florence that the two of you were on in 15 seconds.
“Our guests tonight are making their big MCU debut in the new Black Widow film, please welcome (Y/n) (L/n) and Florence Pugh!”
“So in the movie, there’s three of you guys—where’s the other one?” Jimmy asked, motioning his hand to the small space between you and Flo.
“She’s at home I believe.” Florence answered, glancing at you. “She’s busy doing stuff, you know—adult things.” She added.
You took the opportunity to make a joke and said, “Yet here we are promoting her movie.” You roll your eyes playfully. The crowd bursts out laughing, along with Jimmy, who smacked his desk.
“You know, we deserve a raise for this.” Flo considers, going along with your joke. She slightly snorts and nudges your arm with her elbow. “We could take Scarlett’s check and just split it in half for ourselves.”
“Problem solved.” You shrugged, high fiving her.
Another round of laughs fill the room as Jimmy says, “So you’re both taking Scarlett’s money?”
Jokingly, you nod in approval, “By the end of this interview? Definitely.”
Dropping the bit, you shake your head with a grin on your face. “I’m kidding! I’m only joking, I wouldn’t do that to her, even if I were forced to.”
Jimmy moves on as a picture of you, Florence, and Scarlett pops up on the screen. The picture had been posted on your Instagram and was taken while the three of you were filming in between takes. You were taking the selfie while Scarlett and Florence were poking their heads out from behind you making funny faces.
“I can’t imagine how exciting it is to be on a Marvel set, and to even work with one of the first ever heroes in the MCU—that must be insane!” Jimmy exclaims, motioning to another picture of the three of you.
“It’s unbelievable. To work alongside Scarlett and to follow this kind of path that she’s paved in the MCU is an honor. She really was like our older sister behind the scenes, because she was always guiding us and taking care of everyone. She’s the best.” Florence responded while you nodded in agreement.
“I watched the movie last night and one of the things I enjoyed the most was the dynamic the three of you had. You guys were like actual siblings.” Jimmy mentioned, motioning between you and Flo.
Florence giggled before squeezing you into a tight hug, “Yeah, she’s my big sister.” You smiled beamingly, patting her cheek before she let go.
“No, really! She’s like my actual younger sister.” You tell the audience, who “awed” at the hug you both shared. “We spent months on this movie and we spent every single day with each other. By the middle of production, we were basically roommates.”
“Roommates?” Jimmy questioned, leaning his elbows on his desk.
“Because I was always at her house.” Florence answered in a ‘duh’ tone. “I’ve actually grown an attachment to (Y/n), she’s like my comfort blanket. So I need to have her with me at all times. If she’s not with me, I just won’t leave the house.”
“Speaking of your attachment to (Y/n), there’s this video of you that you apparently sent her?” Jimmy gestured at you, “And you posted it on your Instagram and now the whole internet is obsessed with it.”
“Yup, that’s the one.” You confirmed.
“I know there’s probably some people who haven’t seen it, so here’s the video.” The video of Florence popped up on the screen and began to play.
(This fic was based on this TikTok😭)
Jimmy looked at you and Florence in amusement, “Can we get some context?”
Florence waved her hand at the screen and said, “As you can all see, I’m very persistent.”
“This wasn’t your first time sending her these kinds of videos?” Jimmy asked. You shook your head, a feign look of annoyance on your face.
“No, she does this all the time.”
“In my defense, I was unexpectedly flying out to New York for a project. I knew I was gonna be in the city for a few days, so I decided to call (Y/n) and make the most of my trip.” Flo defended herself, slightly pouting.
You leaned your head on her shoulder, “To be fair, it was also our first time seeing each other since we wrapped Black Widow, and we really missed each other.”
“(Y/n), did you have to move any plans?” Jimmy turns to you. Florence does the same.
“You know what, you never told me if you had plans or not.” She squints her eyes at you. Your arms crossed while your body slowly sunk into the couch.
You pretend to fix your lipstick, quickly muttering, “I might’ve moved some plans around.”
Florence’s mouth gapes in shock, her entire body freezing. She grips onto your shoulder, “Wait, you actually moved plans for me?”
“I might’ve rescheduled a lunch with someone, but that doesn’t really matter.” You replied, trying to move on from the topic. Jimmy pointed at you, a giant grin on his face, “You actually moved plans for Florence!”
Florence’s mouth was still wide in shock, “I can’t believe you actually moved plans for me—(Y/n)!” She whined.
“I missed seeing you, so of course I had to move them.” You bashfully explained, the corners of your lips turning upwards. Florence pulled you into a hug.
“Gosh, you really do love me!” She exclaimed.
“I really do!” You said, your arms wrapping around her as well.

It is time. It is finally time for the new Suicide Squad rant (and spoilers will be plentiful):
As someone who was into DC Comics and comics in the mid to late 2010s and had so much hype for the first Suicide Squad movie only to be let down, I was so nervous for this one. I knew it was going to be a roller coaster, but whether I would come out happy or disappointed was up in the air. Having just seen it I will say this: I have no idea if this was a good movie-movie. It was insane. The comedy. The violence. The high emotion. I’m still trying to take it all in. But one thing I do know is that this is an amazing Suicide Squad movie. Gunn and co took the best parts of the comic concept and went batshit with it and that is how this property should be handled (in my opinion). Screw edgelordisms, we need full on insanity free of aiming for shock-value or sexy brutality we want chaos baby.
Starting the whole movie as they did, with Savant as the POV for a mission (or part of the mission) that just goes to hell immediately and kills off so many before the title arrives is the perfect way to start this movie. Like the second I realized this was how they were doing it I was just smiling from ear to ear, this is the spirit of the property.
Part of me wishes we got more Amanda Waller, but what we had was impeccable. Then again, this is Viola Davis we’re talking about, and if she was born to play any character in a superhero story, it is Amanda Waller.
And points to her tech team, introducing them with the death bets was just a lovely way to show how regular this is and how awful everyone is in this movie.
I’m not going to pretend like Deadshot and Bloodsport didn’t have the exact same character- and plot premises… but I will say that Bloodsport felt better executed.
I love that they kept some of the past members and not just Harley. Rick Flag got to have a full personality and interactions with his team members and to be a true leader and it made me so happy for someone who initially did not give a single shit about his character. The Harley friendship? The Dubois friendship? The friendship with that guerilla leader? Amazing. The one American soldier in fictional media I genuinely like. You go Mr Flag.
The new members were… they were insane in the best way. Gone are the shitty stereotypes and present are some of the wackiest creations to ever grace the mainstream movie-sphere (aka the slightly less normal comic creations): A man who has to shoot out polka dots two times a day so as not to die from a space virus. A giant child murdering weasel. A guy who detaches his limbs and slaps people with said detached limbs. King Shark. The second person to command rats with a fancy gadget. They are all crazy and all weird and all more or less morally repulsive people and I love them.
The amount of times I did a double take over the soundtrack I swear. Jessie Reyez? The Pixies? It was so much fun to pick up on once I did.
Was the depiction of a vague Latin American country stereotypical? Yes. Was the secret American involvement predictable and felt mildly patronizing from a non-American, part Latina point of view? Yep. But damn it if I didn’t have a good time with those stereotypes and laugh my ass off at how well executed some were. I don’t know if it was meant as parody, but that one secretary has me thinking so — and if so I am pleased.
Speaking of Latino dictators Harley’s one day romance with one of the villains was something I never knew I needed. Like it was so perfect for Harley that when it happened I almost hit myself for not realizing that this kind of plot should be a normal thing for Harley. And the end of it? Perfect not only in this standalone movie, but also in conjunction with the first and with BoP.
The Taika Waititi cameo??? Oh my god??? I did not expect that and I love it?? Sir, What We Do in the Shadows is impeccable.
Rick Flag’s death actually surprised me. It shouldn’t as this is Suicide Squad, but I kind of expected him to be on Harley’s level of unkillable (because let’s face it, no one kills Harley). What I will say is that his death was good and his final words and actions made me love him all the more. I hope this spawns more Rick Flag content, or at least inspires me to look at what already exists, if he already is as this movie made him (it’s been ages since I read one of the Suicide Squad reboot comics okay).
Starro. How can a villain be so wacky and so terrifying at the same time? I did not expect a literal alien starfish to have more terrifying powers and a more tragic plot execution than Enchantress. But here we are. And that damn star just wanted to be floating in space, and instead it was stuck getting revenge by killing and puppeteering human corpses. Wow that thing was creepier the more you think about it.
I don’t know what I think about Polka Dot Man. I loved watching him on screen but also damn those mommy-issues were on a new level. Not just in his backstory but how he literally sees her in every person around him that was insane. Very funny but like also the kind that makes you laugh just because you’re uncomfortable and don’t know how else to releive the tension.
When Waller got knocked out by a staff member I immediately thought «oh my god Amanda Waller is going to kill half the staff for this», so I’m mildly surprised and disappointed that I didn’t get to see that happen. But also I should maybe expect something like this in a potential future Suicide Squad movie. We can’t have everything in a movie as packed as this.
Peacemaker was very horrible and worked really well. Don’t really have much to say about him, not because I didn’t enjoy him but because I already feel like the film itself has said it for me. But the planting and payoff for his death? Chef’s. Kiss.
Harley’s wardrobe was beautiful. Ratcatcher 2’s combat outfit felt like a steampunk plague dream. Bloodsport’s mask was supercool. Rick Flag’s t-shirt was amazing. But the best little outfit was the Mafalda-keychain and her red dress, hands down. Oh and King Shark’s fake moustache finger moment.
King Shark is shaped like a friend I don’t care how many people he ate alive on screen he looks so huggable. It feels like wanting to pet a bear. You know it will kill you but damn it look at those paws and those cute eyes!
I really need to give it to not just James Gunn but the entire production team for this movie. The aesthetic was perfect. The story was the right blend of whimsical and violent. The finished product was a literal rollercoaster and I mean that in a good way. If superhero movies have to be like amusement parks, I hope they’re more like this one and BoP.
I’ll finish on the note that while I think this movie was great and hopefully a step in the right direction for the DCU/DCEU (as in stop trying to play Marvel’s game and just do your own thing/ let your creative teams run wild and free), it is not the first step. Cathy Yan, Birds of Prey and the production team for it took a step first, and they deserve due credit and attention. If you loved this Suicide Squad movie and haven’t watched BoP yet, do so. Because they really are in the same ballpark while doing things in slightly different ways. And any good DCEU movie deserves more attention so the studios know that creativity and risks should be rewarded. I want more DC movies like this, not necessarily in genre but in creative risks. I want a Black Canary rock movie. I want Alfred in a reverse heist movie alone in the batcave against Gotham villains. I want Gotham Academy on screen play by play from the comics. I want a fully animated psychedelic-like Khalid Nassour as Dr. Fate movie. I want elevated horror movie Constantine. I want weird ass Lois Lane journalist movies with a heavy side of Superman. And I want DC movies I didn’t even know I wanted.
Support creativity in mainstream comic movies. Help me become a DC fan and happy about it again.

Even when Harry was little, he’d known he’d have an odd path in life. Just because it was odd, didn’t mean it’d be bad, but it would make him absolutely stand out in the crowd.        When Y/N was young she didn’t see herself having any extraordinary adventures. Sure, she’d travel and explore the world with its secrets, but she didn’t have any plans to draw the attention of the masses. That was until Harry’d come into her life.        They were both young, still kids in that tender age where childhood crossed into teenage years, when they met. For Harry, it was like one of those scenes in the movies where the pretty girl walks into a room and a billion fans make her hair look like the wind is sweeping through it, and her eyes glisten like gemstones. Also known as the 'love at first sight' scene.        For Y/N, it was hard to keep her breakfast down as she walked inside the classroom, twenty pairs of scrutinous eyes on her, trying to figure out if the new girl was a predator or prey.        Luckily for Y/N, the biology teacher wasn’t a total witch and didn’t make her present herself to the class, and just pointed to the free seat next to a curly-haired boy. Luckily for Harry, that free seat was right next to him.        With a sigh, she dropped her heavy backpack beside the chair, giving the boy a shy glance, and was surprised to see a genuine and large grin right back at her. It wasn’t the kind people gave when they had bad thoughts. It was the kind people gave when they were truly excited and wanted to give a good impression. Y/N’s chest grew warm at the thought she might actually make a friend that day. And she did.        “I’m Harry.” He extended his hand for her to take, the grin never leaving his face.        She gave him a big, relieved smile. “I’m Y/N.”        Ever since then they were not only lab partners in classes they shared (which was biology, physics and math), but also in mischief. Together they managed to enrage Anne, annoy Gemma and absolutely horrify Y/M/N, and whenever one went down, the other made sure to go down as well.        So when a few years down the line, Harry had told Y/N about his idea to audition for X-factor she wasn’t surprised one bit.        “I mean, as long as you don’t trip and break your nose on stage, you’ll be fine.”        For that, she received a slap on her arm from him.        “I’m just saying!” Y/N defended herself. “You’re great at singing, Mrs Aberdeen certainly thinks so, you don’t have two complete left feet, and you’re alright to look at.”        That for the first time since the decision and application had been submitted, made Harry smile. He loved how easily Y/N was able to lighten the mood, to take his thoughts away from the bad, and just erase them with her wit and smile.
       “Besides.” She nudged his shoulder with hers and then intertwined their fingers. “I, Gem and our Mums will be right there for you. Won’t even blink until the end of the performance.”        With how her insides trembled in excitement and fear for her best friend, it truly seemed to Y/N she hadn’t blinked at all on that fateful day. Her breath hitched when the judges were talking. She couldn’t even remember what they said, all of it turning into white noise.        And then he got through, and Y/N screamed so much she was sure she’d blown out Anne’s eardrums, and had hugged Harry so tightly she was afraid she’d broken a rib. But with his victory also came a fear, because, for the first time in Y/N’s life, she was terrified as to where she’d stand in Harry’s. Since day one it’d been secure, but now, with the newfound fame of X-factor and who knows what kind of an amazing future, she didn’t know if he’d throw her to the curb, simply forget about the mundane friend from high school or maybe use her for something.        But it wasn’t like that. Not one bit. After insane hours of rehearsals, Y/N was one of the three people he always called. It was her, his Mum and Gem. Always. And he loved to listen to her speaking of what was happening at school, how the lessons were, which teacher turned out to be hooking up with which. As much as Harry knew he was made for the extraordinary, he loved the ordinary Y/N brought in his life. She was his safe harbour. But what he never agreed with were her own thoughts she was meant for a simple life, so he took it upon himself to bring a little bit of eccentricity in hers, as he explained how he’d gotten united into a band with four other boys, now going by ‘One Direction’, and it was his mission to join his newfound friends with the most important friend he'd had.        “This is Y/N,” Harry introduced her to the guys after one of their late-night practices, one where they weren’t being filmed. “If you do anything that even mildly upsets her, I’ll kill you in your sleep.”        The slap against his arm made him let out an ‘Ow!’ while the rest of the boys laughed and welcomed her with open arms.        In a weird way, Y/N became part of the band. She didn’t sing or play any instruments, but she was always around, gave her input on songs and setlists. That kind of closeness made all of the fears and doubts about losing a place in Harry’s life disappear. She was his personal hype-man while at the same time knocked him down a few pegs whenever the fame started to get to his head.        She was there for his highs and lows, for the break-ups and break-off in the band, and watched as he ventured into a solo career as much as she could with school and all, but when summer break rolled around it was like Harry couldn't get rid of her even if he tried. Not that he wanted. Sharing the success and happiness with his best friend was one of the biggest rewards he could have.        And Y/N would never admit it because it’d boost Harry’s already elephant-like ego, at least that’s what she said, but she kind of liked the attention she received because of him, especially because most of it was pleasant.        Had she been terrified that being known as Harry Styles best friend would make people think she was just a gold-digger, seeking fame and leeching it off from him? Yes. And there were people like that. But ninety-five percent of what people said on her social media accounts was actually nice, some even said ‘thank you’ that there was a person like her in Harry’s life to keep things real, and most importantly – cared about him through it all.        Harry also saw those comments; he loved to read about how people saw just how much Y/N cared, and it kind of stirred something in him. He didn’t know when exactly, but it was around the age of twenty-four for him and twenty-three for Y/N when he started looking at his friend in a different light. And it bloody terrified him. He didn’t know if she felt the same, and the thought of putting his heart on the line like that only for the possibility of it being crushed was the scariest thing ever.        He did, however, have an inclination as to what incident had prompted them to surface. The feelings that were. It was a night after a party. Y/N was on winter break from her master’s at uni, which meant he used every opportunity to spend time with her.        The hangover was real, I mean it’s what you got by mixing vodka, tequila and beer into an empty Sprite bottle and chugging it. Harry stumbled over sleeping bodies on his way to the kitchen in search for some leftover pizza he was sure he and Y/N in their drunkenness had ordered, as well as to make two cups of black coffee. He knew she hated the taste, but cold junk food and bitter coffee always did the trick with her. That was when he’d found her.        Although he’d woken up in Y/N’s room, she hadn’t been next to him. Instead, as it turned out, she’d gone on a food search sometime before him and had passed out on the couch, a Cookie Monster onesie on her body, but most importantly his signature pearls around her neck. And one of her hands even rested against her collarbone, as if scared someone would take them away from her.        That’d been the first time his heart had flipped in his chest at the sight of her, but most definitely not the last.        He did however keep this change in his emotions to himself. He wasn’t really sure what it was, so it would be unfair to dump that on Y/N and have her figure it out for him because he didn’t know where she stood on her own, let alone do the work for him.        Luckily, despite the tornado of feelings, their friendship didn’t falter, and when his Vogue cover came out, he was incredibly nervous for people to see it, but especially for those who mattered the most to him, like his Mum, sister and Y/N. Especially Y/N, for her opinion had become the most important one outside his blood relatives. After all, all his thoughts went to – if we dated, would she be as proud of me as she was of me as a friend?        Her support meant the most because he was away in the middle of filming; he had no way of getting physical comfort, so all of the messages, calls, social media posts and FaceTimes was the world to him, especially when Y/N sent a picture of herself with three copies of the magazine, two beside her head as she laid on her bed and one clutched to her chest, which she also posted on Instagram with the caption ‘Can’t hug you for real right now, so this will have to do. When I do get to you @harrystyles, I’ll crush your ribs with my love. And that is a threat.’        Then the comments came in from the rest, and one stood out more than the others.        Bring Back Manly Men.        At first, he felt odd about it. It didn’t really bother him, but at the same time, it made him sad. He knew that he was seen as somewhat of a controversial figure, as he painted nails, wore frilly blouses and now full-on dresses, which were all typically categorized as feminine things, but he never understood why a nail colour or the shape of a shirt suddenly became exclusively for just one gender. Which is why he was so grateful to have Y/N in his life.        “I mean, anatomically speaking, men should be wearing dresses and women trousers. It’s you who have all the dangly bits,” she said through a bite of food. “The Scots have been onto it since the beginning.”        Harry threw his head back in a laugh, shifting an arm behind his head. “So I assume your favourite pic is the one in the kilt?”        “Well, it did remind me of that awful punk phase I had back in school with all those safety pins, only in a more tasteful way, but no. My favourite one is you in that brown, grey off-shoulder jacket thing.”        “Why?”        Y/N wiggled her brows at him. “Shows enough of your cleavage but leaves enough for imagination.”        “Of fucking course.” Harry snorted, shaking his head. “Objectifying much?”        “What? I’m not going to deny that my best friend is a sexy beast.”        He wouldn’t say it out loud, but when she called him her friend, it made his heart clench in a painful way. Harry had been trying to be a bit flirtier around her, but given his open nature as it was, Y/N hadn’t seemed to notice it, nor had she seemed to notice how he looked at her while she was frowning at her computer screen.        Harry’d had relationships with some women who could be considered the most beautiful in the world, but if he’d had to say, in his opinion, who’d receive that title, it’d be Y/N. The way she snorted when she laughed too hard, the way small crow lines had already appeared next to her eyes from how much she smiled and the way her forehead creased when she was concentrating. It enthralled him to no end. He could read her life’s story on her face, how she’d lived and thought and experienced, unlike so many people he met who couldn’t move a muscle.        Though the reason she was so concentrated in that moment was because thousands of people had tagged her in a tweet of a woman, she’d heard of for the first time in her life (because Harry had been trying to keep that one off her radar), and what she saw made all the blood boil in her body more than any other hate comment had.        Without hesitation, Y/N atted her and tweeted “Bring back manly men. Please! Millions of people would let him raw them WHILE WEARING THE DRESS. I mean you tried, so I’ll give you the gold star you so desperately want, but that was pathetic.”        At that same moment, a notification popped up on the screen of Harry’s phone. He only had notifications on for one person, and when he saw what was written, he gasped, looking at Y/N. “You did not just do that!”        “What?” Y/N shrugged biting down on the chocolate bar she’d been savouring for the last half hour of their conversation. “I just said what everyone was thinking. Besides what the fuck does ‘bring back manly men’ even mean? Go chop some wood? Fight a bear in the Siberian woods? Have your ‘friends’ stab you to death at a political meeting?”        “You’re a menace.”        Y/N winked popping the last bit of the chocolate in her mouth. “Only to those who dare go for the people I love.”        His heart fluttered at the last word, but all he could do was mask it with a large grin and shake of his head.        For another hour they spent talking, Y/N kept hyping Harry up, tried to get as many plot details of the movie he was filming, while he avoided as many spoilers as possible and attempted to steer the conversation somewhere else, but when that happened, Y/N jumped onto his music, which he had told her all about. In fact, there wasn’t a music video made without her approval, and neither would his next one be. “You’ll fly out to see me film for ‘Treat People With Kindness’, right?”        Y/N sighed, giving him a sad smile. She hated disappointing Harry. “I’d love to. But you know with everything going on, I don’t think I’ll be able to.”        “Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be in it.”        She gasped, in real excitement. “Well, why didn’t you say so from the start?!”        “So that’s what this friendship has come to. I’m just your gateway to celebrities?”        “Harry you’ve always been just my gateway to the people living in LaLa Land.” But she let out a small breath much like she’d done before. “I really do want to come, Harry. You know that; I miss you like crazy. But Phoebe or no Phoebe, I don’t think I can.”        Harry bit his lip nodding, but he still needed to try one more time. “Is there anything I can say or do to get you here?”        “Get me a private jet and a quarantine mansion?”        “Deal.”        “Woah! Wait!” Y/N pretty much jumped up from her position in bed. “That was a joke! Harry Edward Styles, I swear to God, if you try an –“        But with a giant grin, he just blew Y/N a kiss and ended the call.        She was quite terrified if she was being honest, that Harry would do what she’d asked. He already had once. It'd been around Christmas time while she was still in First Year at uni, and she’d seen a glistening necklace at a jewellery store display. She hadn’t said anything, hadn’t even uttered a word, but just seeing the sparkle in Y/N’s eyes, was enough for Harry to make the decision and gift it for her.        When the next day, around five AM her time, she got a call from Harry’s manager Jeff, she was ready to rip both of them a new one, an e-mail with a plane ticket popping up in her inbox.        “I swear I’ll poison your drinks when I see you,” she’d grumbled, but couldn’t hide the excitement as she threw everything she could in the suitcase. “And no one will find your bodies, mark my words, Azoff.”        He snorted. “Yeah, tell that to the FBI agent listening in on this call.”        “Fuck. Gave myself away,” she said softly, giggling right after.        “You know he’s stoked beyond belief.” Jeff piped up. “He literally jumped out of the bed this morning, and during the dance rehearsals he didn’t miss a step.”        That made Y/N’s heart warm. “Well, you can tell him to curb it a bit. Otherwise, I’ll just stay at the fucking mansion – which, by the way, it was a joke, Jeff! I’m pissed enough he’s spending money on me as it is, let alone such a chunk on the plane, you didn't have to get me an actual mansion.”        “You know, for you, he’d give away all of it.”        “Yes, well, he might need it for his funeral, if he keeps spending it on me and on shit like this.”        The man shook his head but didn’t say anything else. He wasn’t the only one trying to drop hints to Y/N that Harry felt something more, but he’d leave it to the man himself. He didn’t need to possibly ruin everything, and have her decide not to come. His client was nightmare enough without her around, because Harry was like day and night when Y/N finally arrived on set for ‘Treat People With Kindness’.        To say he enveloped her in a hug would be an understatement as he didn’t let go of her for ten solid minutes, having grabbed her by the underside of the thighs and sat down on the ground just so he could prolong the feeling of being with Y/N.        The fact that she’d actually gone for it and hadn’t scolded Harry too much for spending that insane amount of money, for having brought a small piece of home to LA with herself where they were filming, made him now fully acknowledge the true extent of his feelings, especially as she didn’t pull away from their embrace, rather hid her face in the crook of his neck.        I mean, in the end, he did have to let her go because everyone had to get back to shooting, but not before Y/N had stripped the meticulous jacket from him, and went to have a glance at herself in the large mirror, one of the costume designers playing along and adjusting the clothing on her body, as if she was going to be the one performing.        Harry felt someone slide up to him and he looked over to his left, a smiling Phoebe standing there. She nudged his shoulder with hers. “You’re in love with her, aren’t you?”        He nodded, looking back over to where Y/N was still looking at herself in the mirror, wearing the heavy jacket as if it was nothing like it was made for her. “I’m a cliché, I know. But I can’t help it.”        “Of course, you can.” She squeezed his side. “All you gotta do is tell her.”        But it wasn’t that easy. Comparatively, getting Y/N to appear in the video was easier than coming to terms with the fact, all they’d ever remain would be friends if he didn’t do anything.        Yet the shoot for the video ended as quickly as it had started, and Y/N needed to fly back to the UK to defend her PhD paper, and Harry had to go back to filming ‘Don’t Worry Darling’, thousands of miles stretching between them once more. And Harry was a romantic, he couldn’t confess over FaceTime. Besides, he wanted to make it a special evening for her, plan something out, rather than risk a shitty connection cutting him off mid-word.        He hated it though. It’d been almost four years since Harry had realised his feelings had developed from just friendly into romantic, and still, he hadn’t said anything. Even the people who’d never met Y/N in person like Florence Pugh saw what was going on.        But unlike the cast and crew of ‘Treat People With Kindness’ who had to deal with his pining for maybe a couple of weeks, it’d been almost half a year for her at that point. Did she just want to call Y/N and tell her how Harry felt? Sure. She’d had enough of him coming into her trailer only to fall down onto her pillow and whine. But it wasn’t her place. So instead, she was going to figure out a way to get Y/N to the set and make him tell her himself.        Getting Harry’s phone away from him should’ve been the inspiration to the next ‘Mission Impossible’ script though, because it took her literally a whole day to fish it out from his coat's pocket, and she only had about ten seconds to find Y/N’s number (which wasn’t that hard given how it was the number with literally hundreds of calls next to it) and put it in her own phone.        Once their filming was done for the day, Florence rebutted Harry’s invitation to a movie night, saying a massive headache was coming on, so he wished her a good night and with slumped shoulders went to sulk on his own. Which is why she practically sprinted to her own trailer to finally call Y/N        An unsure ‘hello?’ greeted her ears before she responded. “Hey, this is Florence… Pugh.”        That stunned Y/N into silence for a few seconds before she spluttered out a greeting and said ‘hi’ as well. “Not to be rude, but how did you get my number?”        “Stole it from Harry’s phone. Look, he’s miserable. Keeps moping around, and I can’t take it anymore. Last night I found him crying in his pillow with your shirt over it.”        “What? Why?”        “Because it didn’t smell like you anymore.”        Y/N’s heart broke. “Why didn’t he tell me anything? We just talked, and he said he was fine. God, that man is so dumb sometimes.”        “Is there any way you could find a way to get here?” Florence asked biting down her lip.        She heard Y/N sigh at the other end of the line. “I’ll – I’ll try and figure something out. Have to know what’s going on at work, I mean it has been like two months since the video, so maybe…” She was more so talking to herself, but then remembered about Florence. “Listen, can I give you a message when I find out if my boss will let me?”        “Of course!” The actress was excited about the possibility of Y/N getting here, as long as it got Harry out of his depressive mood.        “Oh, and I’ll need to know what kind of restrictions are on set. I’ll figure something out with flights and quarantine, but I have zero clue as to what’s it like where you’re filming.”        Florence waved her off, even though she couldn’t see the motion. “Leave that to me. Just get your ass over here before the guy cries himself dry.”        It was a struggle though on all three ends – Harry was still moping, because not only had Y/N’s shirt lost its smell of her, but homesickness was hitting full force, Florence was getting more and more desperate as she attempted to take his mind off of things, but nothing seemed to work, and Y/N was trying to get on any possible flight to Harry while arranging two tests and an AirBnB she could self-isolate in for two weeks while attempting to set up her work from afar at the same time.        Two days after Florence’s call, Y/N sent her a message ‘Flying in tomorrow at 4 AM. Don’t tell Harry. He’ll feel even shittier cause I have to stay alone in quarantine. First test came back negative.”        She sighed in relief at the message and immediately texted back ‘i’ve got you a set pass ready, just need a picture. selfie will do. also, masks are mandatory on the lot, so bring those.’        Immediately Y/N sent a thumbs up, and a picture of herself she didn’t absolutely despise to be used on the ID card. All that was left was to pack. And spend two weeks in an attempt of not going crazy with anticipation before seeing Harry.        Those two weeks turned out to be worse than the two months between the music video shoot and going to the filming lot. Because throughout then, Y/N knew her only access to him would be through FaceTime, but to be about twenty minutes away from the man without the ability to touch him was pure torture, but at least Harry seemed completely oblivious to the change in her surroundings.        As they still continued on with their calls, not once did he mention her background, or how the paintings suddenly had managed to switch positions or the fact that Y/N didn’t even own paintings. She was sure she could’ve been missing an arm, and he wouldn’t have mentioned it with how tired he looked.        “Have you even slept, Har?”        “Not really,” he groaned, getting more comfortable in his bed. “We’ve had a bunch of early shoots and then late nights, ‘cause we need to get the continuity for the scenes, and then the day’s full of Zoom calls, and well, I can’t not call you.”        Y/N scoffed, scolding him. “You know damn well I won’t be offended if we sacrifice a couple of calls for you to get some proper sleep.”        “I know, but I will.”        Y/N sighed, knowing in a way it was her fault. She could tell him she no longer was hours of time zones away, but rather watched the same sunset and sunrise as him, but she also knew Harry, and he would be unable to stay away from her until her quarantine was over.        She was quite happy she’d sat through the fourteen mandatory days, because when she got on set, even though Harry was usually good at keeping his composure during a scene, despite the mask, he’d recognise Y/N anywhere, and all of the lines flew out of his head.        “Jack?” Florence’s hand came to cup Harry’s cheek, trying to bring him back on track. “You alright?”        But he didn’t even care about improvising to get out of the flub as his lips were split apart by a grin, and he dashed away, a loud ‘CUT!’ ringing throughout the set, but Harry already had Y/N in his arms, spinning the girl around.        “Best friends my ass,” Florence murmured as she went to the two.        Harry was speechless, Y/N’s face in between his hands as he looked her up and down. “How are you here? What? Why?”        “Thank Florence.” Y/N gave an attempt at motioning to the actress with her head. She set the whole thing up.”        Harry’s head whipped to his scene partner. “You knew Y/N was here for two weeks and told me nothing?”        “Your brain short-circuited when you saw her! You wouldn’t be of no use on set at all if I had.”        Harry scoffed, throwing an arm over Y/N’s shoulder. “Come on, let’s get away from this meanie.” But as he walked away, he looked over his shoulder and mouthed a grateful ‘thank you’ to her.        All Florence could hope for was that he’d get it together and confess, but it didn’t seem like he was in any sort of a rush. Y/N was set to be there for three weeks, but the thought of the woman leaving without knowing how Harry felt, leaving him in a sea of his own heartache, made her miserable, especially after a night they’d all spent together.        Harry really wanted Y/N to get to know the people he worked with so he invited the ones closest to him for a movie night, during which he himself had been the first one to actually fall asleep, of course.        For most of it, as ‘Westworld’ ran on in the background, he spent curled up in Y/N’s lap, his head resting against her chest with her fingers weaving through the shortened locks. She had to get used to the length, motion automatically wanting to go on longer than it was possible to. Soon enough, the soothing motions lulled her to sleep as well, their bodies leaning into one another and perfectly fitting together.        As tired as Florence was of seeing Harry, a person who’d become her friend now pine for someone so hard, it was absolutely heart-melting to watch the two interact. Everyone could see Y/N had the same feelings as Harry did for her, only she hid them a bit better. A little, but not by a lot.        No friends acted the way those two did around one another. Sure, people could be touchy, but not like that, not with such intimacy behind the motions. She felt like she was being a little creepy as she pulled out her phone to take a picture, but it was too cute not to.        A loud noise from somewhere outside set made Y/N shoot up straight, and Florence held her breath as she clutched onto her phone, having swiped it accidentally into video mode and filming the whole thing.        “No,” Harry whined, a hand reaching up for Y/N and grabbing at her elbow. “Come back. ‘S too early.”        She just nodded, grumbling something unintelligible but possibly along the lines of ‘don’t make me throw hands’ before laying down and snuggling into Harry’s chest.        Florence let out a large sigh of relief and decided to get some sleep as well before their annoying four AM alarm woke them up for set.        This time it was the other way around, as Y/N whined for Harry to ‘come back and keep her warm’.        Florence watched as Harry slipped out of Y/N’s grasp, but not before pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead and a whispered a promise to ‘see her when the Sun’s up’. The second the trailer door was closed, she slapped his shoulder, and Harry gasped in shock. “What'dya do that for?”        “Stop that! Stop that stupid dance!” She stomped her foot on the ground. “I’m sick and tired of watching you watch her with that dumb longing expression on your face. I can’t take it anymore. Why do you think I went through all that trouble to get her here?”        “I told you I would!”        She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. “Look, I know it’s not my place or anything, but she does like you. A lot.”        Harry threw her an uncertain gaze. “And how do you know?”        “Because that woman spent two weeks in self-isolation just to see you! She’s gone through how many of those awful Covid tests just to go and visit you! She’s dropped everything for you, has supported you through so much, and never fails to boost you up.”        “That’s what friends do.”        “No.” Florence shook her head. “That kind of loyalty… that’s what people in love give. I haven’t talked to my best friend in like a month. What’s the longest you’ve gone without speaking to Y/N?”        And with that question, she left Harry to ponder not only his feelings but the girl’s he was in love with as well. Because if he had to be honest, the reason he’d been dragging everything out, the reason he’d stayed pining for Y/N for years on end was that he tried to write everything she did off as something a childhood best friend would do.        The truth was more terrifying than anything because once that came to light, it’d change everything, and Harry didn’t know if he was ready. He wanted it, desperately so if it meant Y/N becoming someone he could love freely and openly, but not if by the end of it, she'd disappear from his life, leaving a hole the size of his heart in his chest.        His thoughts were cut short as someone knocked on the ‘Hair&Make-up’ door, and an assistant let in a pouting Y/N. Well, he couldn’t’ see the pout behind the mask, but he definitely knew it was there, making a smile come on his own face.        She plopped down in an empty sofa and crossed her arms. “I was cold.”        Harry snorted, wanting to shake his head, but didn't as to not ruin the hair stylist’s work. “You’re always cold.”        “And you’re a living furnace.”        “ ‘S that why you like cuddling? Leeching off my warmth?”        The same assistant who’d let Y/N in handed her a cup of coffee, which she was ready to kiss the woman for, but opted for a ‘thank you’. “We’ve established I only use you to get to other celebs. What makes you think I wouldn’t use you for those sort of things.”        For a moment, the trailer settled into silence, as Y/N enjoyed her morning coffee while the crew kept doing their own work.        “It’s so weird,” Y/N piped up, eyes racking up and down Harry’s body. “Don’t even wanna really look at you like that.”        He let out a mock gasp of hurt. “What d’ya mean? Am I suddenly repulsive to you?”        “No!” she let out a laugh. “It’s just odd seeing you without the tattoos. They’re such a huge part of you, even the dumb ones. Can’t really imagine you any differently.”        “Would you love me any differently without them?” The question was bold, even though he knew she did love him, he had to start making moves.        “No,” Y/N shook her head. “I don’t think so. I believe I’d be a different person then as well, but I’d love you all the same. As long as you’d do the same with me.”        Harry nodded looking down at his hands then back up at her, catching her eyes through the reflection in the mirror. “Don’t think there’s a dimension out there where I don’t love you.”        “I mean that is a bold statement,” Y/N said, sipping on the remnants of her coffee. “What if I’m like a weird, cat-skinning psychopath in one dimension? Would you love me even then?”        “Jesus Christ, Y/L/N, do you just normally come up with those gruesome scenarios or is it a hobby?”        She wiggled her eyebrows, standing up and throwing away the paper cup. “There’s a reason I have a VPN and clean my search history. I’ll see you in your trailer?”        “Yeah.” Harry nodded and smiled. “I’ll be there in thirty minutes.”        The next half-hour he kept hyping himself up, about how he was actually going to do it, but Florence intercepted him right as he was turning down the way his trailer stood. “How are you gonna do it?”        “I – “ Harry huffed and placed his hands on his hips. “In the beginning, I had like a whole romantic outing planned, but… I’ve dragged this on long enough, so I think I’ll just tell her.”        “Okay, good.” Florence nodded and slapped his shoulder in approval. “And if I don’t hear that trailer rocking, I will throw you in a ditch.”        Harry’s eyes widened at the statement, fully knowing she meant her words, but she was already half-way down the track, blond hair swishing behind her back.        It was then or never.        Slowly he opened his own trailer door as if it was Y/N’s place not his, but by the looks of how she’d sprawled out on his bed, she had made herself right at home. Just like she’d done it on the first day of school, but just with his heart.        “Hey!” She smiled looking at him. “You ready to film?”        “Yeah, but umm… I kind of wanted to talk to you beforehand.”        Y/N’s brows furrowed at Harry’s serious tone, so she sat up, nodding. “Sure. Is everything alright?” “It’s nothing bad, at least I hope you won’t take it in a bad way... I’ve actually been wanting to tell you this since that winter’s break party you had while doing your masters...” He let out a small chuckle but seeing Y/N’s eyes widen in a panic he stopped. “Oh, God,” she moaned. “You have a kid! Oh my God.” “What? No!” Harry spluttered. “Why the hell is the first thing you assume that I have a kid?” “I don’t know!” She was now standing facing him completely. “We’ve never had secrets between us, especially for as long as you’ve apparently kept them, what am I supposed to think? Maybe one of the girls you hooked up with got pregnant, and you’ve been hiding the fact you’re a baby daddy because you know I wouldn’t be able to keep the fact I can be the cool drunk aunt to myself.” All of that came out as is she’d prepared it ages ago. “Well, no.” Harry shook his head stepping closer so he could be chest to chest with Y/N. “I’m not anyone’s baby daddy. At least I don’t think so, but umm... when that moment would come... when I have a kid...” He looked up at the ceiling and sighed before lifting a gentle hand to cup her cheek. I wouldn’t want you to be the drunk aunt. I um...” There goes nothing. “I’d kinda like if you were the mom.” “Of course, I’ll be the Godmother!” Both of them said at the same time, making the other’s brain stumble over the words said. “Wait, mom?” Y/N’s question was breathless. “Like donate my eggs or some shit?” “No like, I’ve been in love with you for close to four years, and I wanna try and build a future with you, where you’re more than just my best friend.”        “Oh.”        That was all that managed to escape her mouth as he fully opened his heart, and Harry couldn’t lie – it shattered. He didn’t know what he was expecting, but it was more than that. “That’s...” Y/N huffed sitting down on the bed. “That’s a lot to take in Harry. Like a lot.” “I know.” He sighed and sat down next to her. “Which is why I’ve been pushing this away for as long as I could, but... it was time. It wasn’t fair to you or me to keep on living like that. Look.” Harry took her palm in his. “Whatever you want us to be, we’ll be that. I - I mean I’ll be heartbroken if you say you don’t feel the same, but no matter what you tell me now, I won’t let you leave my life. I love you, and I’m in love with you. This is your choice which way you chose to go with.” Y/N shook her head, interlacing their fingers and finally looking up at him. “I don’t want you to be heartbroken. It’s the last thing, I’d ever want to see you like. And umm well, if it takes me using the pair of ovaries I have to admit I’ve been in love with you too to change that, I guess I’ll have to say it. I’m in love with you too.” Harry’s eyes glimmered with unshed tears of happiness, as he looked at Y/N like she’d hung the stars in the sky. Not that it mattered. He always looked at her like that. “You mean it?” “Yeah,” she chuckled, wiping away a few stray pearls from her own cheeks. “I guess I always thought I’d end up the drunk aunt in your life, so that’s why I thought you’d ask me to be whatever future child’s Godmother. But I love you, and I’m in love with you too.” “Can I – “ Fuck, Harry was too giddy for his own good. “Can I kiss you?” And when Y/N chuckled, nodding he swore he already was in heaven. “Yes, please.”        At first, the touch of his lips was gentle, almost afraid, but the second he pressed them to Y/N’s, and she gasped at the sensation, it became full of lust as passion, years of pent-up pining and angst and just plain old stupidity surfacing and morphing itself into a steamy make-out session.        In a split second, she was sprawled out on Harry’s bed, his toned body leaning over hers and teasing hands moving along her sides, making her squirm and ache for more of his touch, but she wasn’t the only one who wanted to explore a body with a new mindset of what was possible.        As Y/N moaned from Harry’s tongue invading her mouth, her hand couldn’t help itself as it slid down his chest, and her finger flicked against the button of his trousers.        “Can I touch you there?” Y/N whispered against his mouth, and Harry eagerly nodded.        “Please. Been dreaming about this for literally years.”        Smiling, she allowed him to continue and explore her mouth with his tongue, intoxicated on one another’s taste. In fact, Y/N was so far gone just from the kiss, she forgot how a fly worked and needed Harry’s help to open it.        “Get back here,” she grumbled as he chuckled, having leaned up a bit to make it easier for her to get the offensive piece of clothing off. “We’ll see how you fare with a bra.”        “Oh, I’m an expert.” His hands trailed to her shoulder where he snapped one of the straps against her skin, making her yelp.        “You do not want to do that when my hand is an inch away from your dick.”        But the threat had no merit to it, as she dipped her palm behind Harry’s boxers while his mouth went to soothe the sting and leave a little mark on her skin, which he’d get to admire later on.        The second, Y/N wrapped her hand around his cock an involuntary moan escaped into the air, as she gripped him. Fuck, she couldn’t wait until he was inside her, because, and it might sound a little cliché given how they were best friends who’d fallen in love with one another, but she was one hundred percent sure, he was made exactly for her.        But no matter how much she twisted her hand or how gently or roughly she rubbed the tip, he couldn’t get hard, and Harry was on the verge of tears, which Y/N saw and instantly pulled away, cupping his face.        “I’m sorry,” he choked out. “Fuck, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”        “Hey!” Y/N cooed. “None of that. It’s alright. Shit happens.”        Harry nodded understanding that she was right, but he still felt shitty and well, he felt insecure about it. “I just. Fuck. Usually, when I think of you, I’m hard in like a second.”        And although all Y/N wanted to do was smirk and tease him about the fact that he thought of her while wanking himself off, that wasn’t the right moment.        “I promise, you turn me on, you do." He sniffled. "This had never happened before.” But Y/N wasn’t offended or sad, and her laugh wasn’t mocking or trying to hurt him.        “Harry you’re dead tired.” She cupped his cheek with one of her hands, and if he’d been ice cream he would’ve literally melted. “You had to wake up at four in the fucking morning and won’t go to sleep until two the next day. Let yourself rest a bit.”        “But,” he whined and then huffed. “But I wanna love on you. Wanna show you just how crazy I am about you.”        “And you will. You know I’ll always hold you to your word. But this won’t be fun for either of us if mid-fuck you suddenly collapse on me asleep. I don’t need to go to the A and E and explain the broken nose is because my boyfriend decided to take a nap while shagging. A nap on my face.”        But Harry hadn’t really heard anything she’d said after Y/N mentioned the b-word, a dopey smile on his face. “I’m your boyfriend? You really want me like that?”        “I mean I would prefer if you were Phoebe…”        Harry pinched her side, making her squeal before tackling her in a hug. “Shut up!”        And that’s how the two fell asleep (and were woken up twenty minutes later by an assistant in a panic given how Harry was supposed to be on set in five minutes)  – wrapped up in one another’s arms, smiles on their faces, and no longer best friends, but lovers.

Mute
Pairing: Chris Evans x Mute!Reader
Summary: You meet Chris for the first time and he doesn’t know you’re mute. All hell breaks loose.
Warnings: angst, chris being an accidental asshole, fluff, sebastian stan being protective
A/N: I based this on a dream I had, as well as my experience with being a selective mute from 2017-2020, and how I communicated and who I spoke verbally to. Hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Sebastian was shocked when he met you in pre-production for the first post-endgame Marvel movie, and you didn’t speak, instead nodding and using hand gestures that he later deciphered to be sign language. He knew that you were fairly new to the industry, and so approached Joe Russo.
“Hey, Joe. I just had a question about the new girl, Y/N?” He asked, while watching you walk of with your PA next to you. “Sure, what’s up?” Joe responded.
Sebastian cleared his throat before continuing. “I tried talking to her a little bit, but she didn’t speak, instead she used sign language, and I just was wondering if you knew why? Just so I can be better prepared and know how to help her,”
Joe smiled at Sebastian’s request. Being the insanely caring person that Seb was, his question didn’t surprise him. “She’s a selective mute. She does talk, but it is only when she is acting, and she’s an amazing actor. She mentioned to me that she doesn’t speak verbally unless she is very close to the person and trusts them wholeheartedly, such as her family and best friends. Her PA is her best friend, and can help you communicate with her. But, other than that, just get to know her. She’ll probably open up to you.” Joe finished, before patting Seb on the back, and walking off to talk to some production people.
Sebastian looked in the direction that you had gone, and decided to talk to you. You may not communicate verbally with him, but he wanted to get to know you.
Over the next few weeks of pre-production, both Sebastian and Anthony got to know you, and both were insanely shocked when you performed your first scene with them. You delivered your lines like you had been talking all your life, and with the gravity of an experienced actor. They both congratulated you, and you signed “thank you” in response. If any one had any doubts about your skills as an actor before, they had fully dissipated.
When it had been announced that production would be moving to the UK, Seb approached you and Mackie with the idea of renting a place together. You had agreed instantly, glad that you wouldn’t be living on your own in a foreign country all alone, especially since Y/B/F/N couldn’t come along. Living with both boys was chaotic to say the least, but you wouldn’t trade it for the world. They gave you the biggest bedroom in the house, and began learning sign language so you wouldn’t have to carry your ipad everywhere for your text-to-speech app.
A few weeks in, you began to speak verbally to both boys. They were shocked when you spoke to them for the first time, but were insanely happy. Seb was almost in tears, recalling that you only spoke to those who you trusted whole heartedly. He had become insanely protective of you, and treated you like a sister, which you absolutely loved.
Everything was going great. That was, until Chris Evans showed up.
He had just finished filming his latest project, and decided to come and visit his two closest friends that he hadn’t seen in a few months. Mackie had mentioned that he was coming, and would be staying in the spare bedroom, and you foolishly assumed that he would tell Chris about your mutism.
But Mackie being Mackie, he didn’t. And neither did Seb, who also thought Mackie had told him.
You hid in your room when Chris arrived, not ready to face him at that point. You ventured out just after dinner time, and grabbed a plate of food before retreating back into your safe haven with the cover of working on an assignment that you had told to Seb. They bought it, and you and Chris made eye contact and shared a wave before you disappeared from sight.
A few days later is when all hell broke loose.
Chris seemed to have a habit of searching you and Seb out. It started off with him walking into our bedroom while Seb was talking to you, and admiring how you’d decorated the place. Yo gave him a small shy smile, which he returned, although there was a hint of confusion written all over his face. Then, you were asking Sebastian for clarification on the Romanian lines that you were supposed to speak the next day, when Chris wandered in to the kitchen. He noticed how you instantly fell silent, and whispered a thank you to Sebastian before you scurried past him. How watched your back retreat, and sighed, but grabbed his the beer he came for before walking into the living room.
It was later that night that you had decided that you wanted to talk to Chris. You hadn’t known him very long, but you felt very safe around him, and everyone had told you how trustworthy he was. You had spent the last 30 minutes hyping yourself up in the mirror before walking out on a journey to find him. You heard his voice floating from the kitchen, and as you got closer, your heart instantly broke.
“I just don’t get what her problem is with me.” You heard Chris say. Another voice, Seb, responded.
“Chris, I don’t think she has a problem with you,”
Chris scoffed. “Yes she does. Why else would she not talk to me, and rush out of a room quicker than she entered when I walk in? She has a huge problem with me. I don’t know why she thinks that just because she got a part in a movie that she can walk around all high and mighty, but I’ve done nothing to her. She’s being a bitch,”
You heard Seb exclaim and start to defend you, but you didn’t stay to listen to what he said, instead running back to your room in tears, your confidence shattered. You grabbed your iPad and apple pencil, and began to draw, an activity that let you communicate your feelings. You wanted to show Chris that you didn’t hate him, and that you didn’t think more of yourself just because you got a part in a movie.
You finished it right before dinner, and kept it in your grip tightly when Mackie called you down for dinner. Your heart fluttered in your chest as you made your way down the stairs, but your face fell, and eyes welled up with tears when you saw Chris wasn’t there.
“Is Chris coming to dinner?” You asked Seb, and he shook his head no sadly.
“No. He’s not in the best mood, but dont worry, he’ll be fine.” He said, as he grabbed his plate.
“Oh, okay.” You said, your voice coming out shaky. You looked down at the ipad in your hands, before walking out the kitchen. Seb followed behind you. Just before you reached the stairs, he gripped your arm, causing you to turn around.
“What’s wrong?” He asked sincerely, and you couldn’t hold back the tears.
“I-I heard h-him talking about m-me earlier,” You whispered, and Seb cursed before pulling you into a hug.
“You heard him,” He said. You nodded before speaking again.
“I drew him a picture and I wanted to give it to him to show that what h-he said wasn’t t-true, and that I’m actually a huge fan of his,” You sobbed into his chest. Seb didn’t move, but waited for your tears to subside, before walking with you upstairs.
“He’ll come around. He had a rough night, although that doesn’t excuse his behaviour. I’ll talk to him, okay?”
You nodded, and curled up in bed. “Do you want me to bring you up some dinner?” Seb asked, and you nodded again, before telling him what you wanted.
He left the room, and came down the stairs. he plated the food that you wanted, and grabbed a water bottle out of the fridge.
“What happened?” Anthony asked from the dining room as Seb passed.
“She heard what Evans said, and she’s heartbroken. I’m bringing her dinner, and then I’m gonna talk some sense into that motherfucker.”
“Good, he needs it.” Anthony agreed, watching as Seb walked away.
Seb dropped the food off to you, before walking across the hall to Chris’s room. He answered after the first knock.
“What’s up?”
“First of all, you’re a grade A asshole, and second of all, you need to go apologize to Y/N.” Seb said, anger bubbling in his voice.
“Why? She hates me, I’ve done nothing to her to-“ Chris began before Seb interrupted him.
“SHE DOESN’T HATE YOU!” He exclaimed. “She’s selectively mute, that’s why she doesn’t speak to you! She’s a huge fan of you. She’s in her bedroom, right now, heartbroken, because she heard you talking about her.” Seb finished, his hand pointing at your bedroom door.
Chris felt his heart sink. “Why does she talk to you, but not me?”
Seb sighed. “She only talks to people she trusts a lot, and you met her yesterday. Of course she’s not gonna talk to you right away, and now I’m afraid she never will because you talked bad about her. She drew you a picture in hopes that you would understand that she didn’t hate you, but you broke her heart even more by not showing up at dinner. Now, go and fix it or will not hesitate to call your mother.” Seb finished, before walking away.
Chris sat back down on his bed in disbelief. He’d fucked up, and he didn’t know how to fix it. He thought back to Seb’s threat, before picking up his phone and calling his mom.
You had just finished another episode of Criminal Minds, when a knock came to your bedroom door. You dragged yourself out of bed, and opened the door to reveal Chris. You felt tears welling up in your eyes, and kept them locked on the floor, in fear that he was going to yell at you, and repeat his earlier statements to your face.
“I’m sorry,” Chris breathed out. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”
You slowly moved your eyes up to meet his, and he sucked in a breath when he saw your puffy eyes. “It’s ok.” You signed, and Chris shook his head no, before enveloping you into his arms.
He moved the two of your further into your bedroom, and shut the door behind him.
“It is NOT okay. In any way. I broke your fucking heart, Y/N. I have no excuse for what I said, and I want to make it up to you. Will you let me do that?” He asked, his face buried into the hair atop your head. You nodded and he pulled away from you. You grabbed your ipad, opened up your text to speech app, and typed in a sentence.
“Do you want to watch a movie with me?”
Chris nodded, and smiled, his thumb brushing over your cheek. “Of course. You pick.”
You led him over to the bed, and got in, and he climbed in the opposite side. You picked up the remote, and chose the movie “Swat: Under Siege”. Chris wrapped an arm around your shoulders, and pulled you close to him. You cuddled into his chest as the movies opening scene began to play.
About halfway through the movie, Chris tilted your chin up to look at him.
“I really am sorry. I hate that I said what I did. I just- Seb had told me all about you, and I had seen some of the leaked pictures from set, and all I wanted to do was impress you. When I thought you hated me, I couldn’t handle it, and I lashed out. I’m so so sorry about that.” He said, his thumb teaching over your cheekbone once more. “Also, Seb told me that you drew me a picture? Can I see it?” And you nodded.
You unlocked your ipad and opened the drawing app, clicking on the most recent one, before handing the device over to Chris.
His breath caught in his throat while he looked down at the picture you had drawn of him.
Tumblr media
“T-that is amazing,” He said, tears coming to his eyes at the picture that you worked so hard to make of him. “You’re even more amazing than I thought.” He finished. “Thank you,” You signed, before thinking of a question.
You grabbed your iPad once more, and typed into your app.
“Why did you want to impress me?” Chris smiled at the sound of the robotic voice coming from the device.
“I was drawn to you. I dont know what is was, but I couldn’t get you off my mind. I had searched and searched to find another tv or movie you had been in, but nothing came up, and I was so shocked that you got such a big part right off the bat. But I was also insanely excited to see you perform. And when Seb and Mackie told me I could come and stay for a while, I was ecstatic to be able to get to know you, and that’s when I realized that I liked you.”
Your breath caught in your throat at his words. Did Chris Evans really just admit to having a crush on you?
“Now, I understand if you dont like me back, but I had to get that off my chest, especially since I just broke your heart.” Chris said, his eyes focused on the tv to not meet your gaze. You gave him a small smile, but grasped his chin into your hand, and drew his lips into a soft and tender kiss.
He let out a breathy moan, and pulled you closer. His lips travelled from your lips, and all over your face, amking you let out a giggle. He started laughing too, and pulled away. “I’m guessing this means that you like me too?” He asked, and you nodded immediately.
He smiled, and grasped your hand in his. “Well then, can I take you on a date?”
You took a deep breath, and opened your mouth. “Yes.”
Chris’s eyes immediately welled up with tears and he pulled you in for another kiss.
“You spoke to me,” He whispered when he pulled apart, a few tears rolling down his face.
You shrugged and gave him a smile.
“I trust you wholeheartedly.”

~~~
Breaking up with someone you used to care about was never easy. In fact, grieving and eventually getting over that person was the hardest thing to do. You were a singer so relationships that went public usually ended up terribly wrong. The good part about it is that you can write a hit song about the experience.
Breaking up with your past boyfriend was probably the worst experience for you thus far. You thought that he was the one, every move you made was for him and you ended up depending on him constantly. And he broke your heart. He played you like a fiddle and played with the strings of your heart. He cheated on you with someone you were insecure about the duration of your relationship with him, which made everything feel worse.
You decided that you needed a change of scenery in hopes to clear your head. You had been spending time in your Los Angeles apartment moping around, trying to get over your ex-boyfriend. You also had a deadline for your new album and you haven’t even started. Your album was due towards the end of the summer, and it was now spring.
You sat down on your sofa with a pen and notebook in your hand. You were determined to write something. You didn’t want to write songs about your breakup, but that was all you were thinking about. You saw your phone on the coffee table light up and buzz. It was your manager and agent, Cassandra. You picked up the phone nervously, knowing that she was going to ask about your progress or lack thereof.
“Hello?” You answered.
“Hello, Y/N,” Cassandra greeted sweetly. “How’s the album coming along? We need to start recording soon.”
“Funny you ask.” You always tried to make fun out of an uncomfortable situation.
“Y/N.”
“I’m sorry, Cass! I have no idea what I should be writing about for this album.” It’s not like you didn’t want to write. You did, but you had no idea what to write about.
“Maybe you need a change of scenery, dear. You haven’t been out in months,” Cassandra suggested.
“Maybe you’re right.”
“Where would you want to go? You can stay there for the rest of the spring and the beginning of the summer.”
You thought about it for a moment. You definitely wanted to leave the country.  “How does London sound, Cass?”
“Sounds nice. I’ll book you, Natalie, and Sarah tickets for this weekend and I’ll rent the three of you an Airbnb for your stay,” Cassandra confirmed. Natalie was your personal assistant and your best friend. Sarah was your older sister who traveled with you everywhere and she helped you with many of your songs. She was good to bounce ideas off of. You had the perfect team.
“Perfect. Thank you.” You both said your goodbyes and hung up.
***
Tom got off the airplane and sighed in relief. He was finally home. After many months of filming on another continent, he was back in London. Tom was ready to finally sleep in his own bed and hang out with his brothers and friends once again.
Harry and Tom took an Uber back to Tom’s apartment. It was fairly late and all Tom wanted to do was sleep. In the Uber, Tom and Harry made light conversation.
“You want to go to the new pub by our flat this weekend? Haz and Tuwaine want to hang out,” Harry asked.
“Sure,” Tom mumbled. To be quite honest, Tom had absolutely no desire to go out at all this weekend, but he knew that his mates wanted to see him. He did want to see them too, so he agreed.
“Sounds good.”
***
You packed your suitcases for London at the last minute. In your defense, Cassandra only booked Thursday night’s tickets on Wednesday, so you didn’t have that much time in the first place. You were planning on using your time in London to relax and to create a healthy headspace to write your next album.
You called Natalie to ask her opinion on some of your outfit choices. “Nat, am I going for a  casual look this trip? Like sweatpants and t-shirts?”
“Absolutely not, Y/N. Are you insane?!”
“It was just a question, Natalie.” You defended yourself. “What should I pack then?”
“I don’t know, just look hot. You need to get out of the post-breakup sweatpants phase.”
“Fine,” you grumbled. You grabbed some cute spring sundresses from your closet and threw them into your suitcase. You packed some jeans and blouses as well.
You hung up with Natalie and took a look at your bag. “Should be good.”
***
The flight to London from Los Angeles was long and exhausting. You arrived at Heathrow airport in the early afternoon on Friday. You immediately went to the house to rest up from jetlag. Once you woke up a few hours later, Sarah was pressuring you and Natalie to get dressed. “We’re going to the pub! Get up, ladies!”
“What? Why?” Natalie groaned. You and Natalie were laying on your beds in your shared room. Sarah jumped onto your bed and tackled you.
“Sarah, we’re exhausted,” you said. You pushed your sister off of you and sat up. “We can just go tomorrow.”
“It’s the pub’s grand opening! It’s supposed to be fire!”
“Fine,” you mumbled. You got up and began unpacking your suitcase. “But I refuse to wear heels.”
***
Harrison made his way to his best mate’s flat to pick him up for the Cheer Beers grand opening on Friday night. Harrison used his spare key to get into Tom’s place. “Tom,” Harrison called out. He made his way to Tom’s bedroom to make sure he was ready for the night.
“In my room!” Tom exclaimed. Tom sounded upset and agitated. Harrison entered his room anyway because he wanted to hang out with his best friend. He opened the door and noticed Tom laying his bed under the covers.
“Are you alright, mate?” Harrison asked. Harrison noticed Tom in his pajamas while in bed. “Why aren’t you ready to go? Harry already went out with Tuwaine to wait in line.”
“I want to hang out with you all, but I’m just so jetlagged, mate.”
Harrison took his phone out of his back pocket to check the time and noticed an Instagram notification from you. He opened it out of curiosity and it was a direct message. It said that you would be at Cheer Beers tonight with your friends and asked if he was going. Harrison and you had met at an award show a few months back and you became friends. “You know what I just found out, Tom?”
“What?”
“Y/N L/N is going to the grand opening tonight.”
“You’re lying just to get me out of bed!” Tom accused him. Tom didn’t want to admit it, but he fancied you. He has been following you on social media and listening to your music for a while now, so Harrison saying you were going to be at the pub caught his attention.
“I’m not.” Harrison showed Tom his phone with your direct message. “I had no idea she was in town, though.”
“No clue, either.”
“Now will you come?” Harrison asked. “I know you have a huge crush on her.”
Tom eyed him skeptically but then let out a sigh. “Fine, I’ll go.”
***
You waited in line outside of Cheer Beers with Sarah and Natalie. You were wearing a black sleeveless cocktail dress with black slip-on vans. You saw a few familiar faces approach you and you realized that it’s your friend Harrison and his mates. You recognized one of his friends to be Tom Holland.
“Hey, Haz!” You greeted. He pulled you into a hug and squeezed you tightly. You pulled away and said, “Following me, I see?”
“Very funny,” he replied. “We were coming to opening night anyway. We were planning this in honor of Tom’s return from filming.”
“Oh, that’s right,” you said and then turned to Tom. You put your hand out for him to shake. “I’m Y/N.”
He shook your hand and you felt his sweaty palm touch yours. You could assume that he was either unwell or nervous. “Tom. Nice to finally meet you.”
“Likewise.”
You introduced Natalie and Sarah to Harrison and he introduced the rest of his friends to the three of you.
“Would you like to share a table with us?” Harry, Tom’s younger brother, asked you.
“I’m sure that Y/N L/N would have much better opportunities than to sit with us, Harry,” Tom interjected.
“Actually, Tom, we would love to.” You all entered the pub and grabbed a table in the back room. Harrison sat between Sarah and Tuwaine. Harry sat by Natalie. You sat between Natalie and Tom, per Natalie’s whisper in your ear to go for it. You all got your first round of drinks.
“So what brings you to London?” Tom asked.
“Needed to clear my head,” you said and then ate the olives from your martini.
“So you flew halfway across the world?” Tom was amused and you could tell. He wasn’t trying to laugh at you particularly, he just thought it was funny that you chose London of all places.
“Shut up,” you teased. “We’re here for the summer. A vacation, or holiday, if you will.”
“Nice, nice.” You could feel the slight awkward tension between the two of you. You were basically strangers so it made sense. You decided to try and break it. “How was filming for the third Spider-Man film?”
Tom’s eyes lit up at your sudden interest in his work. “Can I tell you a funny story?”
***
Three hours passed by and you decided to call it a night. You talked with Tom the entire night. You enjoyed his company but you were also jetlagged. “Tom, I’m tired,” you said as you leaned on his shoulder.
“Me too.”
“Want to walk me home?” You asked.
“Would love to.” You both got up from the booth and Tom paid for your drinks, even though you protested. Harrison, Tuwaine, Harry, Sarah, and Natalie didn’t look like they were ready to leave any time soon so you said your goodbyes to them and left with Tom.
“How far are you away from here?” Tom asked you.
“About a ten minute walk.” You began walking in the cool London air.
“So, Harrison told me that you were writing for your new album. How’s that going?”
“Not well,” you said as you crossed your arms over your chest. “It’s been fucking difficult.”
“I’m sorry, love.” The pet named warmed your heart and body even more. Tom wrapped his arm around your shoulder and pulled you closer to him. “I wish I can help you out somehow.”
“It’s alright. Getting out tonight helped me get into a good headspace,” you said.
“Glad to hear it.” You arrived at your Airbnb and Tom walked you to the front door. “I had a great time tonight, Y/N.”
You smiled, the first genuine smile that youve had in a while. “Me too, Tom.” You opened your door to enter.
“Wait.” Tom stopped you. “Let me get your number.”
“Sure.”
***
Two weeks had passed since you arrived in London and you and Tom have been texting back and forth. He had even taken you on a tour of London. He took you to all of the hot spots. Occasionally, Tom, Harrison, and Harry would come over to your Airbnb to hang out with you, Sarah, and Natalie. You were developing friendships with everyone, but you felt a bit stronger about Tom. He was charming, kind, and really funny. You enjoyed his company and you finally got the chance to start writing for your upcoming album. You realized that you didn’t want to write about your breakup with your ex, but instead write about your crush on the brown-haired London boy.
“How is the album coming along?” Cassandra asked you on the phone.
“Pretty good. I have a killer single coming your way and many other songs too.”
“Remember, we need to start recording at the end of July.”
“You got it.”
“You sound happy,” she commented. She was right. You were happy and finally completely over your ex. “It’s a good look on you.”
“Thanks.”
“What are you writing about?”
“Oh, you know… London, pubs, boys,” you trailed off.
***
Harrison was busy planning his upcoming date with your sister, Sarah. They hit it off extremely well at the opening of Cheer Beers. They got each other’s numbers and planned to go on a date. To be honest, Harrison was stressed out. He scored a date with Sarah L/N, which ultimately shocked him. So, he decided to go to his best mate for some advice.
Tom was sitting in his living room and Harrison entered with two dress shirts in hand. One of them was a white button-down and the other one navy. “Which shirt should I wear on my date with Sarah?”
“Black slacks, right?” Tom asked.
“Yeah, and a black leather jacket.”
“Go with white,” Tom suggested.
“Thanks, mate. Another question,” Harrison proposed. It felt natural for Harrison to ask Tom about his lady troubles, even though Tom had been single for a while.
Tom nodded his head to urge Harrison to continue.
“What if I fuck this up?” He asked nervously. “I really like Sarah.”
Tom got up from the couch to come closer to Harrison and put his hand on his shoulder. “You’ll be fine, mate. Just be yourself. She’ll fancy you, I promise.”
“How are you so good at giving me advice but you can’t get a girlfriend?”
Tom mocked being bothered. “Rude,” he scoffed.
“What are you waiting for?”
“If I say the perfect girl, will you slap me?” Tom joked.
“Yes, yes I will,” Harrison laughed as he replied. “I think that you already found the perfect girl at Cheer Beers.”
“We’re still getting to know each other. Why must we move so fast?” Tom wondered. He wanted to take things slow. His life had always moved fast and he wanted something to move at his pace, for once. Too many relationships have moved too fast and he ended up hurt.
“Because she’s only here for so long and I have a feeling that she likes you,” Harrison reasoned. Tom was starting to feel the same way about you too.
“Fine. While you go on your date with Sarah tonight, I’ll see if Y/N wants to hang out.” He picked up his phone from the coffee table and texted you asking if you wanted to come over. You replied saying yes and he smiled. “We’re hanging out.”
“Great. Don’t forget to use protection,” Harrison said as he ran away to go get dressed for his date.
“Fuck off, you div!”
***
Tom went to the grocery store to pick up some snacks and beers before you came over to his flat. He tidied up the living room once he got home and made sure to fluff the pillow to make them look nicer. Even though you and Tom were only friends, he couldn’t help but make sure that everything looked perfect for you.
You arrived 30 minutes later. You wore sweatpants and a sweatshirt, along with your slides. Your hair was out of your face and Tom thought that you looked stunning. “Hey.”
“Hi,” Tom blushed. “Nice sweatshirt.” Your sweatshirt was light blue and it had butterflies on it. Tom realized that he loved that color on you.
He led you to the couch and he sat beside you. “So what did you do today?” You asked.
“I worked on a script that I’m writing and then I helped Harrison get ready for his date with your sister. What about you, love?” The pet name made your heart flutter. Tom was definitely charming.
“I worked on some songs for the album,” you answered proudly.
“Care to share?”
“Willing to share what the script’s about?” You asked back, already knowing the answer.
“I’m legally not allowed to share, so no. I’m sorry, darling.”
“Then my answer is the same.”
“Well played, pretty girl,” he flirted. “Wanna watch a movie?”
“Sure, what do you have in mind?”
“Avengers: Age of Ultron?”
“Yes, it’s one of my favorite Marvel movies!” You exclaimed. “I have a feeling that you knew that already.”
Tom smiled at you as he picked up the remote from the coffee table and turned on the television. “I may have, but only because Haz told me. Don’t worry, though. It’s one of my favorites too.”
Tom found the movie and before he hit play he got up from the couch. “May I offer you some popcorn before we start the movie? I have beer as well.”
“Yes to both, please.” Tom went to the kitchen to pop the popcorn and grab some beers. He came back around five minutes later with everything.
“Here you go,” he said as he handed you a bottle of beer. “I know it’s not a martini.”
“It’ll have to do,” you teased. You pat the seat beside you to urge Tom over. “Now, come sit.”
Tom pressed play and the Marvel introduction appeared on the screen. You moved closer to Tom and he wrapped his arm around your shoulder, just like he did that night at the pub. “Is this ok?” He asked.
“It’s perfect.”
Around an hour into the movie, the popcorn was finished along with your first bottle of beer. Tom’s hand was still resting on your shoulder but now your head was resting on his. “Y/N?” Tom called out.
“Yeah?” You asked as you moved your head away from him so you could look at him.
“Can I be honest with you about something?” You nodded so he would continue. “I really want to kiss you.”
“Can I be honest with you?” You asked while smiling.
“Yeah.”
“I really want you to kiss me,” you said as you leaned in. He pressed his lips against yours in a soft first kiss. You kissed back almost immediately. After a couple of seconds, you pulled away from him.
“Wow,” he said.
“Ditto,” you said and then pulled him back towards you. You kissed him again and you knew that from now on, you couldn’t get enough of him.
***
Tom and you didn’t finish the movie the other night. After your many makeout sessions with him, you decided to go home, and you promised him that the two of you would get together again soon. You went home with the biggest smile on your face. Since your kiss, you and Tom have not talked about the status of your relationship. As of right now, you were just friends who have kissed before. No biggie.
It was now the 28th of May and you were sitting on a park bench having coffee with Harrison. It would be Tom’s 25th birthday in four days and the two of you were attempting to plan the perfect party for him.
“You’ll get the decorations, Sam will cook a few dishes, and I’ll provide booze,” Harrison said, listing things off. “We’ll host it at my new flat and I already called everyone.”
“Sounds great, Haz. I just hope he has a great time.”
“I’m sure he will,” he said as he winked at you, indicating something.
“What is that supposed to mean?” You asked, referring to his wink.
“I know that something happened between the two of you last week. Tom hasn’t stopped smiling since the two of you started hanging out. I’m sure he’ll be happy to know that you planned a party for him.”
“We all are planning it,” you corrected him.
“Yeah, but it’s not like he fancies me,” Harrison laughed.
You rolled your eyes at the blonde-haired boy in front of you. “Whatever.” You got up from the park bench and began walking towards his car. “Come on, Harrison. We need to go to the market.”
***
It was the 1st of June; Tom’s birthday. You woke up early to make sure that everything was ready to go for the party tonight. Harrison and Tom’s brothers planned a golf trip with Tom while you set up Harrison’s flat. You brought Sarah and Natalie along with you to help.
“Move that banner a little more to the right,” you told Sarah. She moved it as you requested. The banner said, Happy 25th birthday, Tom! in light blue glitter. “Looks great. Thanks, sis.”
You blew up balloons, set up tables for the food and drinks, got streamers and ribbons, and finally assembled the cupcake tower with the cupcakes you and Natalie baked the night before.
“Red velvet. Nice choice,” Sarah said as she took a look at the cupcakes on display.
“They’re Tom’s favorite,” you pointed out.
“Seems like you know a lot about him.”
“Well, he is my friend.”
Natalie laughed at your response to your sister’s comment. “Is that all he is?” She asked.
“For now.” You pulled out your phone from your pocket to check the time. It was the early afternoon and the party would start in a few hours. “We better get going to get ready. Sam will bring the food and set it up within the hour.”
Before you got into the car, you texted Tom to wish him a happy birthday and he responded with a heart emoji. You smiled to yourself and then got into the car to drive to your Airbnb.
The three of you washed up and got dressed for Tom’s party. You decided on wearing a light blue sundress with daisies on it. You matched it with white wedges and you did your hair to your liking. Once you were all ready you drove to Harrison’s. When you got there, Harrison, Sam, Tuwaine, and a few other friends of Tom’s were already there.
“Harry is bringing Tom in around 15 minutes,” Harrison told you.
“Ok. Everything seems to be going pretty smoothly.”
“We make a pretty great team,” Harrison said in appreciation for all of the work to make Tom’s party happen.
“Tell that to Sarah over there,” you teased him. His date with your sister went well from what she told you, but because of Harrison’s nervousness, they haven’t talked much since. “She’s been dying to hang out with you.”
“Are you just saying that so you can have Tom all to yourself when he gets here?” He tried to joke.
“No,” you said seriously. “Go talk to her, Haz.” You pushed him lightly in her direction to encourage him to go talk to her.
“I see Harry’s car pulling up!” Sam said a few minutes later. “Everyone get ready.”
Harry used Harrison’s spare key to get into his flat and once both of them entered you all yelled, “Surprise!”
“Thanks, guys!” Tom said in shock. Tom made his rounds to greet everyone to say thank you. You waited patiently in the kitchen for the birthday boy. He finally approached you after a few minutes. “Hey, love.”
“Happy birthday,” you said as you pulled him in for a hug. “You look very handsome.”
He pulled away to look at you. “Thank you, but you’re absolutely stunning.”
You leaned in to kiss his cheek and then said, “Thanks, Tom.”
“I should be thanking you,” he said and then grabbed your hands to intertwine your fingers together.
“For what?”
“Harrison told me that you helped him plan all of this, so thank you.”
“It’s my pleasure,” you said genuinely. “You like it?”
“I love it. He looked over to the counter and saw the cupcakes. “Is that a cupcake tower?”
“A red velvet cupcake tower,” you confirmed. “I baked them.”
“You’re a goddess.” He kissed your lips for half a second and then grabbed a cupcake from one of the tiers. He unwrapped the cupcake and then took a bite. He hummed in delight.
“I’m taking that you like them,” you giggled at the man in front of you. He could seriously make anything look cute.
“They’re heaven,” he moaned. Tom dipped his finger in the frosting and swiped your nose with it. You looked at him in shock. “Aw, you look so adorable,” he said.
You laughed at his antics. “Glad you think so, babe.”
Tom’s lit up at the pet name. “Babe? Hmmm.”
“Yeah, babe.” You took some frosting from what was remaining of his cupcake and placed some on his nose to match you. “You look very cute with frosting on your nose, babe.”
Tom grabbed a napkin from the counter and cleaned the frosting off the both of you. “We’re both very cute.”
“Ok, lovebirds,” Sam called out for the two of you. “Let’s get this party started!”
“Before we go out there, I have something to ask you,” Tom said.
“And what may that be?”
“Will you go out on a date with me?” He asked nervously. You felt your heart skip a beat and you could’ve sworn that you felt Tom’s heart beating rapidly from how close you were standing to him.
“I would love to, Tom,” you said and then kissed him to confirm that you really wanted to.
***
The rest of the night went well and Tom enjoyed his time with his friends. You, Sarah, and Natalie crashed at Harrison’s place along with Tom and Harry. The party ended late and the five of you were too tired to drive home, so Harrison offered to let you all stay there.
You woke up early and made your way downstairs to heat the kettle for tea. As you were waiting, you heard footsteps, and soon enough a pair of arms wrapped around you. “Good morning, beautiful,” Tom said and then kissed your clothed shoulder.
“Morning.” You turned around so you could face him. “How did you sleep?”
“Not so well,” Tom said as he stretched out his arms. “Harrison’s a kicker.”
“Poor baby,” you teased, and then Tom pouted. “Quit pouting, Tommy. I know you’re faking it.”
“Fine,” Tom mumbled.
You turned to the stove and saw that the kettle was ready. “Want tea?”
“Please. A splash of milk and a spoonful of sugar, if you don’t mind.”
“Not at all,” you said as you poured him a cup. “So where are we going on our first date?”
“That’s a surprise, darling.”
***
A week after Tom’s birthday, Tom texted you asking if you were available to go on your first date. You had been working on the album the entire morning so you thought it’d be nice to go out with Tom. You replied yes and he told you to be ready within the hour. Tom knocked on your door around an hour later, with a bouquet in his hand. “These are for you, love,” he said with a smile as he handed them to you.
“Thank you, Tom,” you said and then sniffed the flowers. “Come in while I put these in some water.” Tom entered your Airbnb and you searched for a vase in one of the cabinets. Once you found one, you filled it up with water and put the flowers in. “We should be good to go now.”
Tom held your hand as he led you to the car. He opened the door for you and then got in and started the car. “You ready?”
“Where are we going?” You asked.
“You’ll see in around 15 minutes, angel.” Tom grabbed your hand that was resting in your lap and brought it up to his lips to kiss it. “I don’t think I told you this, but you look ethereal.”
“You’re quite the charmer, Holland.”
“I aim to please,” he joked. “But in all seriousness, you always look gorgeous.”
Tom was by far the kindest man you have ever met in your entire life. You have known him for barely two months but he made you feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. You had never felt this way about anyone before.
Tom drove down to a lake. “It’s one of my secret spots,” he told you.
He led you down to the grass near the water and he set up a picnic there for the two of you. “I made sandwiches, cut up some fruit, and some apple cider.”
“It looks good. Thank you, Tom.” He pulled everything out from the picnic basket and handed you one of the sandwiches.
“Anything for you.”
“So this is one of your secret spots, huh?” You asked.
“Mhm,” he mumbled as he took a bite from his sandwich.
“So you bring a lot of girls here?” You teased and you could’ve sworn that you saw Tom almost choke on his sandwich. “Is that why it's so special?”
“Very funny, love,” Tom said. “No, I actually come here alone.”
“I’m guessing because it’s quiet.”
“Yeah, I come here when I need to clear my head.”
You looked around the area and you immediately understood why Tom liked it so much. There was a beautiful, cool breeze and the birds chirping sounded like music to your ears. “It’s beautiful. Thank you for bringing me here.”
“I can drive you here to write songs if you’d like,” Tom offered.
“That would be lovely.”
You and Tom spent a couple of hours at the lake. You talked about anything and everything, and you finally felt yourself get closer to him. You felt him opening up to you too, which you felt good about.
“Would you like to go on a drive with me?” Tom asked once you both packed up the remainder of the picnic.
“Will there be music involved?”
“What would be a nice evening drive without music? C’mon, let’s go.” Tom led you to his car and you began your drive. The sun was setting and it was beautiful. “It’s wonderful outside, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, it is,” you said.
“I had a great time with you, Y/N.”
“Me too.”
*** Once Tom dropped you off, you began writing another song. His date left you inspired and you were starting to like him more and more. Each time you saw him your feelings for him grew. He inspired you to write your song, London Boy.
Tom wanted a second date. He felt so good leaving the first one and knew that he wanted to pursue a relationship with you. He knew that it would be hard but relationships won’t always be easy. He decided to call you the next to ask when he could see you again.
“Tom, we just went out,” you teased.
“I know, Y/N, but I like you. A lot.” You thought that it was cute how Tom was eager for a second date. You were excited too.
“I like you, too. I would love to see you again, too,” you said.
“Coffee? I don’t drink it but I know how much you like it,” Tom offered.
“How about tea? Know any good spots for a cup of tea and maybe breakfast?”
“I know just the place. See you soon, Y/N.”
***
Many amazing dates with Tom and a bunch of fun days in London later and you know that you’re ready to start recording your next album. People had their assumptions about you and Tom. Rumors had gone around but Tom and you didn’t address them.
London inspired so much of your album that you decided to record there. The rest of your team flew out and you began recording.
You called Tom asking him to come to the studio. “I’m recording one of my favorite songs today. I would love for you to come if you’re free.” You were recording London Boy today and you wanted Tom to hear it since he hadn’t before. It would also be a good way to officially tell Tom that you’re falling in love with him.
“I would love to come. Send me the address.”
“You got it. See you in 20.”
You sent Tom the address of the studio and he was there within 15 minutes. You greeted him at the front. “Hey, babe.”
He kissed you on the cheek and then asked, “Are you excited for today?”
“Very. I’m excited for you to hear the song,” you said as you led him into the studio. You introduced him to Cassandra and the rest of your team.
“Y/N, get your pretty ass in the booth,” Cassandra said. You walked into the recording booth and put on your headphones. “Let’s do this.”
“Tom, sit up in front,” you said and then he took a seat beside Cassandra. “This one is called London Boy.”
The upbeat music came on and you knew that you were skipping the intro for now so you went in with the first verse.
I love my hometown as much as Motown, I love SoCal And you know I love Springsteen, faded blue jeans, Tennessee whiskey But something happened, I heard him laughing I saw the dimples first and then I heard the accent They say home is where the heart is But that's not where mine lives
You heard Cassandra tell you to stop so they could play it back. You saw Tom smiling at you as you were singing and you took that as a good sign that he was enjoying it.
“Now for the chorus.”
You know I love a London boy I enjoy walking Camden Market in the afternoon He likes my American smile, like a child when our eyes meet Darling, I fancy you Took me back to Highgate, met all of his best mates So I guess all the rumors are true You know I love a London boy Boy, I fancy you (Ooh)
You ended up finishing the recording of the song in an hour. You left the booth for your break and you first greeted Tom. “What did you think of it?”
“I love you, too,” he said. You leaned up to him and kissed him with every fiber of your being.
“That’s good because many of these songs are about you.”
“And I can’t wait to hear them all,” he said and then smiled.
“I can’t believe how I’ve only been here for three months and I already feel this way,” you said honestly. You have never fallen so fast for anyone, but it feels right with Tom. Everything feels right with him.
“Well, believe it because it’s real,” Tom confirmed. “Be mine, Y/N?”
“I thought you’d never ask, lover.”
Movies I watched in May
Sadly, I kind of skipped writing a post for April. It was a mad month with so much going on: lots of emails sent and lots of stress. I started a new job so I’m getting to grips with that... and even then, I still watched a bunch of movies. But this is about what I watched in May and, yeah… still a bunch. So if you’re looking to get into some other movies - possibly some you’ve thought about watching but didn’t know what they were like, or maybe like the look of something you’ve never heard of - then this may help! So here’s every film I watched from the 1st to the 31st of May 2021 Tenet (2020) - 8/10 This was my third time watching Christopher Nolan’s most Christopher Nolan movie ever and it makes no sense but I still love it. The spectacle of it all is truly like nothing I’ve ever seen. I had also watched it four days prior to this watch also, only this time I had enabled audio description for the visually impaired, thinking it would make it funny… It didn’t.
Tumblr media
Nomadland (2020) - 6/10 Chloé Zhao’s new movie got a lot of awards attention. Everyone was hyped for this and when it got put out on Disney+ I was eager to see what all the fuss was about. Seeing these real nomads certainly gave the film an authenticity, along with McDormand’s ever-praisable acting. But generally I found it quite underwhelming and lacking a lot in its pacing. Nomadland surely has its moments of captivating cinematography and enticing commentary on the culture of these people, but it felt like it went on forever without any kind of forward direction or goal. The Prince of Egypt (1998) - 6/10 I reviewed this on my podcast, The Sunday Movie Marathon. For what it is, it’s pretty fun but nowhere near as good as some of the best DreamWorks movies.
Chinatown (1974) - 8/10 What a fantastic and wonderfully unpredictable mystery crime film! I regret to say I’ve not seen many Jack Nicholson performances but he steals the show. Despite Polanski’s infamy, it’d be a lie to claim this wasn’t truly masterful. Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) - 8/10 Admittedly I was half asleep as I curled up on the sofa to watch this again on a whim. I watched this with someone who demanded the dubbed version over the subtitled version and while I objected heavily, I knew I’d seen the movie before so it didn’t matter too much. That person also fell asleep about 20 minutes in, so how pointless an argument it was. Howl’s Moving Castle boasts superb animation, the likes of which I’ve only come to expect of Miyazaki. The story is so unique and the colours are absolutely gorgeous. This may not be my favourite from the legendary director but there’s no denying its splendour.
Tumblr media
Bāhubali: The Beginning (2015) - 3/10 The next morning I watched some absolute trash. This crazy, over the top Indian movie is hilarious and I could perhaps recommend it if it weren’t so long. That being said, Bāhubali was not a dumpster fire; it has a lot of good-looking visual effects and it’s easy to see the ambition for this epic story, it just doesn’t come together. There’s fun to be had with how the main character is basically the strongest man in the world and yet still comes across as just a lucky dumbass, along with all the dancing that makes no sense but is still entertaining to watch. Seven Samurai (1954) - 10/10 If it wasn’t obvious already, Seven Samurai is a masterpiece. I reviewed this on The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast, so more thoughts can be found there. Red Road (2006) - 6/10 Another recommendation on episode 30 of the podcast. Red Road really captures the authentic British working class experience. Before Sunrise (1995) - 10/10 One of the best romances put to film. The first in Richard Linklater’s Before Trilogy is undoubtedly my favourite, despite its counterparts being almost equally as good. It tells the story of a young couple travelling through Europe, who happen to meet on a train and spend the day together. It is gloriously shot on location in Vienna and features some of the most interesting dialogue I’ve ever seen put to film. Heartbreakingly beautiful.
Tumblr media
Tokyo Story (1953) - 9/10 This Japanese classic - along with being visually and sonically masterful - is a lot about appreciating the people in your life and taking the time to show them that you love them. It’s about knowing it’s never too late to rekindle old relationships if you truly want to, which is something I’ve been able to relate to in recent years. It broke my heart in two. Tokyo Story will make you want to call your mother. Before Sunset (2004) - 10/10 Almost a decade after Sunrise, Sunset carries a sombre yet relieving feeling. Again, the performances from Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke take me away, evoking nostalgic feelings as they stroll through the contemporary Parisian streets. There is no regret in me for buying the Criterion blu-ray boxset for this trilogy. Before Midnight (2013) - 10/10 Here, Linklater cements this trilogy as one of the best in film history. It’s certainly not the ending I expected, yet it’s an ending I appreciate endlessly. Because it doesn’t really end. Midnight shows the troubling times of a strained relationship; one that has endured so long and despite initially feeling almost dreamlike in how idealistically that first encounter was portrayed, the cracks appear as the film forces you to come to terms with the fact that fairy-tale romances just don’t exist. Relationships require effort and sacrifice and sometimes the ones that truly work are those that endure through all the rough patches to emerge stronger. The Holy Mountain (1973) - 10/10 Jodorowsky’s masterpiece is absolute insanity. I talked more about it on The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast.
Tumblr media
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - 10/10 Another watch for Grand Budapest because I bought the Criterion blu-ray. As unalterably perfect as ever. Blue Jay (2016) - 6/10 Rather good up to a point. My co-hosts and I did not agree on how good this movie was, which is a discussion you can listen to on my podcast. Shadow and Bone: The Afterparty (2021) - 3/10 For what it’s worth, I really enjoyed the first season of Shadow and Bone, which is why I wanted to see what ‘The Afterparty’ was about. This could have been a lot better and much less annoying if all those terrible comedians weren’t hosting and telling bad jokes. I don’t want to see Fortune Feimster attempt to tell a joke about oiling her body as the cast of the show sit awkwardly in their homes over Zoom. If it had simply been a half hour, 45 minute chat with the cast and crew about how they made the show and their thoughts on it, a lot of embarrassment and time-wasting could have been spared. Wadjda (2012) - 6/10 Another recommendation discussed at length on The Sunday Movie Marathon. Wadjda was pretty interesting from a cultural perspective but largely familiar in terms of story structure.
Tumblr media
Freddy Got Fingered (2001) - 2/10 A truly terrible movie with maybe one or two scenes that stop it from being a complete catastrophe. Tom Green tried to create something that almost holds a middle finger to everyone who watches it and to some that could be a fun experience, but to me it just came across as utterly irritating. It’s simply a bunch of scenes threaded together with an incredibly loose plot. He wears the skin of a dead deer, smacks a disabled woman over and over again on the legs to turn her on, and he swings a newborn baby around a hospital room by its umbilical cord (that part was actually pretty funny). I cannot believe I watched this again, although I think I repressed a lot of it since having seen it for the first time around five years ago. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 - (2011) I have to say, these movies seem to get better with each instalment. They’re still not very good though. That being said, I’m amazed at how many times I’ve watched each of the Twilight movies at this point. This time around, I watched Breaking Dawn - Part 1 with a YMS commentary track on YouTube and that made the experience a lot more entertaining. Otherwise, this film is super dumb but pretty entertaining. I would recommend watching these movies with friends. Solaris (1972) - 8/10 Andrei Tarkovsky’s grand sci-fi epic about the emotional crises of a crew on the space station orbiting the fictional planet Solaris is much as strange and creepy as you might expect from the master Russian auter. I had wanted to watch this for a while so I bought the Criterion blu-ray and it’s just stunning. It’s clear to see the 2001: A Space Odyssey inspiration but Solaris is quite a different beast entirely. Jaws (1975) - 4/10 I really tried to get into this classic movie, but Jaws exhibits basically everything I don’t like about Steven Spielberg’s directing. For sure, the effects are crazily good but the story itself is poorly handled and largely uninteresting. It was just a massive slog to get through.
Tumblr media
Darkman (1990) - 6/10 Sam Raimi’s superhero movie is so much fun, albeit massively stupid. Further discussion on Darkman can be found on episode 32 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast. Darkman II: The Return of Durant (1995) - 1/10 Abysmal. I forgot the movie as I watched it. This was part of a marathon my friends and I did for episode 32 of our podcast. Darkman III: Die Darkman Die (1996) - 1/10 Perhaps this trilogy is not so great after all. Only marginally better than Darkman II but still pretty terrible. More thoughts on episode 32 of my podcast. F For Fake (1973) - 8/10 Rewatching this proved to be a worthwhile decision. Albeit slightly boring, there’s no denying how crazy the story of this documentary about art forgers is. The standout however, is the director himself. Orson Welles makes a lot of this film about himself and how hot his girlfriend is and it is hilarious.
Tumblr media
The Mitchells vs. The Machines (2021) - 4/10 More style over substance, Sony’s new animated adventure wants so much to be in trend with the current internet culture but it simply doesn’t understand what it’s emulating. There’s a nyan cat reference, for crying out loud. For every joke that works, there are about ten more that do not and were it not for the wonderful animation, it simply wouldn’t be getting so much praise. Taxi Driver (1976) - 10/10 The first movie I’ve seen in a cinema since 2020 and damn it was good to be back! I’ve already reviewed Taxi Driver in my March wrap-up but seeing it in the cinema was a real treat. Irreversible (2002) - 8/10 One of the most viscerally horrendous experiences I’ve ever had while watching a movie. I cannot believe a friend of mine gave me the DVD to watch. More thoughts on episode 32 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast. Don’t watch it with the family. The Golden Compass (2007) - 1/10 I had no recollection of this being as bad as it is. The Golden Compass is the definition of a factory mandated movie. Nothing it does on its own is worth any kind of merit. I would say, if you wanted an experience like what this tries to communicate, a better option by far is the BBC series, His Dark Materials. More of my thoughts can be found in the review I wrote on Letterboxd.
Tumblr media
Antichrist (2009) - 8/10 Lars von Trier is nothing if not provocative and I can understand why someone would not like Antichrist, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. After watching it, I wrote a slightly disjointed summary of my interpretations of this highly metaphorical movie in the group chat, so fair warning for a bit of spoilers and graphic descriptions: It's like, the patriarchy, man! Oppression! Men are the rational thinkers with big brains and the women just cry and be emotional. So she's seen as crazy when she's smashing his cock and driving a drill through his leg to keep him weighted down. Like, how does he like it, ya know? So then she mutilates herself like she did with him and now they're both wounded, but the animals crowd around her (and the crow that he couldn't kill because it's Mother nature, not Father nature, duh). Then he kills her, even though she could've killed him loads of times but didn't. So it's like "haha big win for the man who was subjected to such horrific torture. Victory!" And then all the women with no faces come out of the woods because it's like a constant cycle. Manchester By The Sea (2016) - 6/10 Great performances in this super sad movie. I can’t say I got too much out of it though. Roar (1981) - 9/10 Watching Roar again was still as terrifying an experience as the first time. If you want to watch something that’s loose on plot with poor acting but with real big cats getting in the way of production and physically attacking people, look no further. This is the scariest movie I’ve ever seen because it’s all basically real. Cannot recommend it enough. Eyes Without A Face (1960) - 8/10 I’m glad I checked this old French movie out again. There’s a lot to marvel at in so many aspects, what with the premise itself - a mad surgeon taking the faces from unsuspecting women and transplanting them onto another - being incredibly unique for the time. Short, sweet and entertaining!
Tumblr media
Se7en (1995) - 10/10 The first in a David Fincher marathon we did for The Sunday Movie Marathon, episode 33. Zodiac (2007) - 10/10 Second in the marathon, as it was getting late, we decided to watch half that evening and the last half on the following evening. Zodiac is a brilliant movie and you can hear more of my thoughts on the podcast (though I apologise; my audio is not the best in this episode). Gone Girl (2014) - 10/10 My favourite Fincher movie. More insights into this masterpiece in episode 33 of the podcast. Friends: The Reunion (2021) - 6/10 It was heartwarming to see the old actors for this great show together again. I talked about the Friends reunion film at length in episode 33 of my podcast.
Tumblr media
Wolfwalkers (2020) - 10/10 I reviewed this in an earlier post but would like to reiterate just how wonderful Wolfwalkers is. If you get the chance, please see it in the cinema. I couldn’t stop crying from how beautiful it was. Raya and The Last Dragon (2021) - 6/10 After watching Wolfwalkers, I decided I didn’t want to go home. So I had lunch in town and booked a ticket for Disney’s Raya and The Last Dragon. A child was coughing directly behind me the entire time. Again, I reviewed this in an earlier post but generally it was decent but I have so many problems with the execution. The Princess Bride (1987) - 9/10 Clearly I underrated this the last time I watched it. The Princess Bride is warm and hilarious with some delightfully memorable characters. A real classic!
Tumblr media
The Invisible Kid (1988) - 1/10 About as good as you’d expect a movie with that name to be, The Invisible Kid was a pick for The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast, the discussion for which you can listen to in episode 34. Babel (2006) - 9/10 The same night that I watched The Invisible Kid, I watched a masterful and dour drama from the director of Birdman and The Revenant. Babel calls back to an earlier movie of Iñárritu’s, called Amores Perros and as I was informed while we watched this for the podcast, it turns out Babel is part of a trilogy alongside the aforementioned film. More thoughts in episode 34 of the podcast. Snake Eyes (1998) - 1/10 After feeling thoroughly emotionally wiped out after Babel, we immediately watched another recommendation for the podcast: Snake Eyes, starring Nicolas Cage. This was a truly underwhelming experience and for more of a breakdown into what makes this movie so bad, you can listen to us talk about it on the podcast.
Your friendship started completely by accident.
You’d come by the video store and he was stocking shelves and you asked him for a recommendation, he helped you out and you ended up loving the pick he chose. You did the same thing the next time and soon you found your conversations getting longer and longer. You loved almost all the movies he picked and the ones you didn’t, started some very mentally stimulating and amazing back and forth between you.
“Look, I am not saying it is a bad movie, I just do not get why you hyped it up so much!” It had him rolling his eyes at you, “It’s like we watched two entirely different movies, like did you even listen to the score?!”
It was nice and soon little bets were made, recommending each other movies and betting on how much the other person would love them and if they didn’t then usually snacks or small favors were exchanged. When Randy ended up getting another pick wrong it led to you making him take you out for lunch.
You ended up having such a great fucking time and it was the real start of your friendship. The hangouts were frequent and not just kept to the video store. You got along so fucking great it was kind of insane.
He got a crush on you first.
It started so small, just him thinking about how much he liked you and wanted to keep hanging out even after you spent all afternoon together. He tried to push some of those feelings away because he wasn’t sure you felt the same way plus if he ignored those feelings they would totally go away, right?
Wrong.
It seemed like it only made it worse to be honest. His crush on you was embarrassingly huge, if only he knew you had started to like him too then he could have gotten over himself a lot sooner.
The first moment he realized he was truly, madly, deeply hopeless for you was during one of your now regular lunches you;d share. You had just told some joke that made the one he told pale in comparison and it almost made him choke on his malt. The laugh you let out in response, head throwing back, hand over your mouth, it made him stop, it swept over him all at once, warmth exploding in his chest, gripping his glass way too tight, Jesus fuck he had it and he had it fucking bad, how had he not realized how much? How oblivious could he be?
You called him out on the silent act and it made him flush and he fumbled, coughed and told you rather unconvincingly that yeah of course he was fine. You didn’t believe him but you dropped it. He struggled through the rest of lunch to not be so caught up in his own head and be present with you.
After that afternoon with you he tried to play it cool but it didn’t end up working out that well, he found himself pining after you almost constantly. You just got him, had such a good sense of humor and great taste in movies and shows and music and he just had the best time with you. It was always so easy to spend time with you, easier than it had ever been with anyone else.
It takes him a few months to work up the courage to ask you out. It was after your film studies lecture, crisp fall afternoon, you’d both just visited a favored cafe’ of yours, you’d treated him to his favorite, a hot apple cider. You’d set it down in front of him before taking the seat across the table and you looked so good in that fall coat you loved and that scarf he gave you last holiday season that it just burst from his mouth before he could stop it.
“Brooke, do you wanna go out with me?”
You paused, looked a little shocked, it made him want to immediately jump into taking it back, wishing he could shove the words back into his mouth, grab them out of the air somehow but once something is said it is too late and can never be taken back. But then you surprised him. You smiled warmly and said, “Jesus titty fucking Christ Meeks, it took you long enough! I thought we’d be going grey by the time you finally got around to asking.”
“Wait, what?”
The way he said it, such pure and genuinely confusion painted across those adorable features that it had you laughing again in that way that got to him so badly. “I’m saying I like you too doofus.”
That had him smiling wide, preening a little under you saying that, you saying that really helped bolster his confidence and quick too, he asked in a very joking over-confident tone, “So you like me, eh? How long has that been going on?”
You shook your head fondly as you took a sip from your hot chocolate. “ Ass. Yeah I fucking like you and I’m excited for our date. So where you taking me?”
Shit.
Good question.
Where was he taking you?
He hadn’t woken up that morning planning on asking you out and whenever he did think he was going to get around to it he hadn’t planned as far ahead as you saying yes.
It was like you could see the gears turning his head and you reassured him, your hand on his as you said, “Don’t get all weird. Whatever we do is gonna be a good time.”
“Right, right, duh, of course.” He said with a nod and you saying it actually helped him relax, you were so good at helping him relax.
So any lingering doubts the two of you might have had about dating ruining your friendship was firmly squashed on the first date. You made the transition with startling ease. He totally couldn’t believe just how well it was all going. So many great times, trips out to the movies and meals shared and walks and basically everything you did before but with the added benefit of neither of you having those urges of wanting to reach out and touch that you previously couldn’t act on.
You both made good use of the fact that little hurdle was no longer in the way. Could hold hands and throw arms around each other and kiss, fucking my God did you both take advantage of that one.
It only takes a few dates for it to really escalate.
You and Randy back in your apartment, roommates conveniently out, another extremely successful date, a fantastic time was had and it was getting better with the two of you on your couch. Your arms around his neck and kissing him, almost practically seated in his lap, his hands on your hips as he was returning your ample affection with equal enthusiasm.
You moved, kisses trailed over his jaw as you said softly, "You know you've really improved."
He sounded a little breathless as you'd continued your movement, mouth laying more kisses down his throat, your fingers in his hair, "Im-proved, at ah, what exactly?"
"At kissing." You bit the side of his throat and it had his hands going up to your shoulders, pushing you back a bit so you could look him in the eyes, "Ouch!"
"Oh c'mon I didn't bite you that hard you baby." You teased and he said, "Not at the bite, at what you said!"
His hands slid up, arms wrapped around you, tugging you even closer to him and you cooed, "Awe did I hurt your fragile ego Randy?"
"Deeply." He said so deadpan it made you laugh, "Seriously sweetheart, baby, Brookie cookie, how could you?" He smiled a little as he took over where you left off, kissing over your face and neck. A wide smile taking over your own face, you loved the over the top pet names he'd pull out, soon as he learned about your old nickname it was adopted into everyday conversation easily, he'd call you it more than anything else. I mean the man even changed your name in his phone to that book ended by hearts and cookie emojis, how sickeningly sweet was that?
"Mmm I dunno what I was thinking, how truly heartless of me." You said and he hummed in agreement, "How about we move this to my bedroom and I can make it up to you?"
His lips stopped on that spot where your neck meets your shoulder and he asked, "You serious?"
"As a grave, Meeks."
Three words in his mind all at once. Hallelujah. Holy shit.
It felt right. Dumb jokes and banter helping keep the harsher edge away but still that under current of heat was unmistakably present as you both stumbled your way to bed. Neither of you could keep your hands off each other even for the short journey, refusing to break apart, still kissing almost desperately. You fell back on the bed and that was when Randy paused to take you in for a moment, hair out of place, flushed and kiss bruised lips and clothes rumpled from the heated make out, looking up at him like you really wanted him.
It's nice to feel wanted.
You looking at him like that was something he never wanted to lose. The need to continue? To touch you? Overwhelming.
He got on the bed, hands starting on your ankles and sliding up your legs, slowly, he felt things were a bit too serious, he needed to lighten the mood again but he couldn't help what he said now, "Damn."
You laughed a little again, "Damn?"
He gave a nod, hands sliding up higher, on your thighs now, "Yes. Damn. No good?"
"I just think you are selling me a little short." You teased and he was leaning down over you, playing along, "Oh are you implying you're worth a two syllable damn, baby?"
"Implying? I'm out right saying."
Your hands were on him again, pulling him down so his mouth crashed into yours. It heated up considerably after that again. You'd both been pretty worked up out in the living room and you starting up the makeout again simply reminded you both how much you wanted this.
Tongue running over his bottom lip and it made him moan into your mouth and you needed to hear more of that. Your fingers curling in the fabric or the shirt he had on and with him between your legs you went with the urge you had and moved your hips, grinding up on him and he was so hard already, unsurprising, but hot all the same.
You making that first move gave him all the invitation he needed and moving his own hips made your mouth slow down, the friction felt damn good. More heated kissing, grinding, tugging at each other's clothes, needing more skin on skin contact. Thing is he was having trouble getting your pants open, to the point he stopped kissing to focus his hands better and you asked, "You good? Nervous?"
He let out a breathy laugh, he was but didn't want to show it, "Yeah, yeah, uhm just, got that song by The Waitresses stuck in my head, you know?"
"The Waitresses why-" and it clicked just then, the lyrics of I Know What Boys Like entering your head, particularly the ones about the lead wearing clothes that are purposefully hard to take off. You laughed, a shake of your head, "Swear to God I didn't do this on purpose."
"You sure?" The tone pulled yet another laugh from you and finally he got your pants open, "Finally! Oh my God-"
You held back the urge to clap and said, "Congratulations! Hope you don't have this much trouble getting my bra off."
"Your lack of faith is startling." He quipped and you helped him get your pants off as you said, "Gimmie something to have faith in babe."
"Now that, I can do."
He had your pants off, tossed aside, he started to kiss you again and you started to help him with his clothing in between making out. Soon it was down to just underwear and you pushed him back, starting to kiss down and he tried to keep composure because holy shit you were making moves that showed your clear interest in putting his dick in your mouth.
He'd spilled too much cum to that very thought. The view of you sliding down, hand cupping his erection through the thin material, thumb brushing over the damp spot. You knew he was into this, how hard he was, already leaking pre-cum, breathing harder. You squeezed once, looking up at him through your lashes, "How you holding up sweet thing?"
A shaky nod, "M' amazing."
"Good." You hummed out and you were low enough to mouth at him through his underwear and he couldn't hold back the slight buck of his hips. Your mouth was already so warm, he might just die at this rate. You pulled the last remaining layer of fabric out of the way. You paused, a small curse at finally seeing him bare before you. He looked so good. Literally mouthwatering.
Your hand closed around him and you leaned in, tongue made contact and swirled around the tip and he might really just die. Your lips closed around the head and you sucked and his eyes screwed shut because the feeling combined with the visual was in fact going to be the death of him. “Fuck, Brooke-”
You hummed, and sucked harder, hand slowly starting to move, beginning to stroke him, and he let out a shaky exhale. Your mouth moved down, taking more of him into your mouth and you moaned at the taste, the feeling, the whole situation really and Christ how was he supposed to go on like this?
“Feels-so, so, so good-” He groaned out and you set a rhythm, not super fast or hard but steady, decent. His knees almost gave out, you pushed him down so he was on his back and you only kept going, refusing to let up, he was squirming below you, making the most delicious sounds.
You took more and more and he had this all consuming craving to work with you, to fuck up into your mouth as you moved down to take more. He wanted to fuck your face but he was already hanging on by a thread, if he wasn’t careful he was going to cum already, he couldn’t stop moving at this point or shut up with his moaning and praise of you, words falling out asking for “-more-” and to “-don’t stop!”
You wouldn’t until he actually changed his tune, fists clenching, “I-I wanna do some-THING! But ah-ha, ahhhh, I don’t know if you are dow-nnn for it.”
You pulled off, stroking his whole length as you asked, “What is it? If you don’t ask, you might never get it.”
You had a point. You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take, right?
“I-I’m close, I don’t wanna cum yet, bu-but, I-I kinda want to-” You encouraged him, “Want to, what?”
“Wanna-” His eyes closed, his hands over his face, choking out, “-wanna fuck your face.”
You almost gasped at that.
One of your biggest fantasies, you wanted that so badly, had thought about it over and over and here he was offering it, you responded so quickly, “Yes! Yes, I love that, I want it, please-”
You moved, mouth back on him and he couldn’t believe what he heard, his fingers threaded in your hair and you moved down and he arched his hips up once experimentally and you moaned as he went so deep.
That felt unfairly good.
You wrapped your lips tighter around him, moving down further and he bucked up harder, fucking into your eager mouth, so hot and wet, you felt incredible and were moaning on his shaft, eyes screwed shut and he worked with you. Arching, rocking, pumping up and you moving down in time and soon, very soon, his pace was faltering, “B-Brooke! I-I’m gonna-”
A reassuring hum, your hands on his hips, a squeeze, encouraging and he groaned low and long and he finally came, hips stuttering as he spilled on your tongue. The taste was better than anticipated and you swallowed him back with ease, listening to the litany of moans and praise that left him upon his orgasm. He was a panting mess by the time he finished cumming into your mouth. You pulled up after you’d downed his cum, sitting up and looking him over. You allowed him to bask in the afterglow for a moment before asking:
“So how was that?”
He huffed out a laugh, still half panting, “Oh my fucking God. I-I don’t have words to describe Brookie, I literally have nothin’-”
“Well that’s cuz I drained everything out of you.” You teased and he said, “Well not everything-”
“Good. Because I am still wanting more.” You said and he forced himself up, pushing you onto your back now, “Oh I know you are. I won’t leave you hanging, I promise.”
You knew he wouldn’t. He would never disappoint you.
He kissed you, hard, hot, possessive, you moaned into it and he could taste a hint of himself clinging to your mouth and he actually loved it. After a few moments his hands moved, began to get rid of your bra and panties, and as soon as you were bared he had to stop again. His hands ran over your body, feeling, touching everywhere he would, “Holy fuck-”
He let out a shuddering breath, “-your body is fucking amazing.”
All of it struck him so fast.
Being in your bed. Totally naked with you after you had just given him maybe the most amazing orgasm of his life, so here with him, present in the moment, clearly wanting him and he felt so damn lucky, overcome with feeling yet again.
He kissed you, his hands palming your tits and he didn’t linger long before moving down, kissing over your neck and pausing at your chest, hurried licks and bites and it made you shift under him and more and more he moved down until he was between your legs which he put over his shoulders. Your slick cunt was on display, you were so wet, and inviting.
“Gonna make you feel so fucking good-” He groaned out and he leaned in, one long and strong lick up the middle of you that had your back arching with a gasp of his name from the sheer pleasure that flooded your system. He had never felt more sure of himself or anything he had ever done than in this moment.
His hands on your thighs he took his time starting to eat you out for the very first time. He ate you out with such care, licking up through your folds, over your clit, tongue passing over it and swirling around it and even pulling it into his mouth, sucking deeply, tongue flicking over it and every moan and heavy breath and twitch drove him forward, fueled his hunger. The feeling built so steadily, so intensely.
“You taste-” he panted out, pausing briefly, “-the best, just the fucking best-”
You let out a light laugh, asking, “Yeah?”
“Oh my God, yeah.” His hand slipped down and two fingers slipped inside of you, drawing another moan from you as his mouth lowered down, tongue running over that sensitive bud before latching onto it.
You clenched around his fingers and he moaned against you. He was already hard again. You were almost too much for him. He was rock hard and couldn’t help grinding down onto the mattress below, your sheets felt soft and so good and provided just enough of a tease of stimulation to help push him even further as he pleased you.
And my God did he fucking please you.
In a few more short minutes you were almost gasping for breath, chest rising and falling, rocking against his tongue and you were starting to warn him, thighs tightening around his head, “Ran-Randy, I’m so close!”
He kept pace, didn’t dare change a thing, maintaining that all important consistency to ensure your release, his fingers curled just so and another suck and flick of his tongue had that coil breaking and you came with a cry of his name. Eyes shut tight and pleasure exploding outwards, white hot and running throughout your whole body, jerking and twitching under his minstriations. He didn’t stop, dragged out every single bit of sensation out of it that he could and only when you were weakly batting him away from sheer overstimulation did he let up and pull away.
His mouth lifted, his fingers slid out of your soaked cunt and into his mouth, sucking on his fingers and cleaning every bit of you, tongue rolling between his own fingers as he took in the sight of you panting, blissed out all because of him.
He mirrored what you asked before, “How was that?”
You smiled so warmly, eyes peeking back open and looking down to him. “Fucking fantastic.”
He felt so good about himself, about you and what you both shared. But more than that he was still feeling so worked up. You cumming on his tongue and fingers might be the hottest thing he had ever experienced, he slowly pulled himself up your body, you could feel his erection brush your inner thigh and you held your arms out, inviting him even closer still. He leaned down yet again, his lips capturing yours in another kiss, this one was slower, most passionate, so good. He pulled away to ask, “Are you sure?”
“More than I’ve ever been about anything.”
“Now there is that faith I was looking for earlier.” He reached out for his jeans to grab a condom and you grabbed his wrist, a shake of your head, “I’m covered.”
“Oh shit-really? You’re-...” Another nod and he couldn’t believe it. Fucking hell how was he supposed to last, he already came once but going raw and bare your first time was going to be so much to take.
“Mmmhmm.” You nodded and your legs wrapped around his hips, pulling him closer, you feel him brush against you and you squirm, back arching, “Please hon?”
He couldn’t say no. He trusted you implicitly, he knew that you were safe and he wanted this so badly, maybe more than literally anything he ever had. “Course, sweetheart.”
He positioned himself just right, pressed himself right to you, tip at your soaked entrance and he took a deep breath to compose himself before another short reassuring kiss he nudged forward, slowly pushing into you for the first time. A shared moan that broke the kiss, he sunk in inch by agonizing inch and Christ you felt indescribable inside. You moaned at him, filling you, shifting below him.
He wasn’t going to be able to hold out. Not a snowball's chance in hell. He wanted you to cum again, was desperate for it, he needed to do something to seal the fate of your end again. He adjusted again, one hand between your bodies, his thumb pressed to your clit and you almost sob, “Randy! Ye-yes!”
“Brookie-” he groaned out, his eyes fell closed, still couldn’t look at you, he wanted to engrave every single moment to the walls of his brain but he couldn’t, if he did he would spill in two seconds flat. You clenched around him as he was rubbing your clit with the perfect pressure and pace.
“You’re soooo fucking good for me-” He moaned, “-so hot. So tight and wet, better than, ahhh, I-I ever thou-ght.” He was holding still inside of you, tip pressed to that sweet spot inside, rocking slightly, grinding into that ultra sensitive tissue as he circled your clit. “I-I want you to-to cum ah-again before me.”
If he kept it up you would.
He pressed a little harder and you gasped out, “M’ gonna-if you, ahhh, keep it uppp-”
He could feel the way you got wetter, tighter, he could tell how close you were, clinging onto him, panting out praise back to him, moaning and writhing and hell he hoped he had his timing right. Other hand that wasn’t working your clit went under your knee, holding up your leg, fucking in, deep, hitting that perfect spot, all his focus going into not cumming before you and keeping those fingers moving.
“Ra-Randy! I-I’m almost there-”
“Shit, me too, baby, please, please-” His hot breath was on your neck, panting out, filling you over and over and your nails were biting into his back as you finally tipped over with a moan, “M’ cumming!”
And he finally allowed himself to give in. The feeling of your soaked walls on him as your orgasm took hold brought him to his end, he managed to keep going, fucking into you, giving you as much pleasure as he could and he came too. The feeling of his hot cum spilling only increased your pleasure, a surprised moan pulled from you at the sensation and he was muttering your name, and something else unintelligible but ultimately sweet into your throat.
His hips slowed until finally stopping, resting fully buried inside of you.
You were both panting hard, slick with sweat and entangled together. Taken aback by sheer sensation and emotion.
He props up looking down at you, “God, Brookie cookie, hon, I-I’m sorry I didn’t last long-” You shh’d him, a finger pressed to his lips with a smile and a shake of your head. “Don’t pull that shit Meeks. It was fucking perfect. YOU were perfect.”
You leaned up, kisses over his face and neck, hands running down his shoulders and arms reassuringly and he melted into you.
You were wrong.
He wasn’t perfect.
You were.
SSSS.Gridman: Final Thoughts
Tumblr media
Even though I watched it during its original run in 2018 just three years ago, I felt compelled to rewatch this show thanks to its inclusion in the upcoming Super Robot Wars, where it’s most likely the most exciting new inclusion in the roster for many if not most. I don’t think I ever wrote a full review piece for it during that original run, so I’ll use this opportunity to sort that out. It was one of two mecha series made by Studio Trigger in 2018 (you could argue that it’s not a mecha series really, but that’s splitting hairs, the appeal of this and various super robot shows overlaps heavily,) the other being Darling in the Franxx. It was Franxx that was probably the most highly anticipated of the two, with Gridman, as the soft reboot of an old, not-especially-popular toku Ultra-series knockoff from the 90s, probably rating a fair bit lower on the hype charts. In the end, reality defied at least my expectations if nobody else’s, with Franxx being somewhat of a letdown and SSSS.Gridman turning out to be excellent. On a repeat viewing, my opinion has changed somewhat - this time I enjoyed it even more than the first time around. I truly think that it’s one of, if not the best mecha (or mecha-adjacent if you want to be picky) series to air in recent years.
The plot setup is that one day, highschooler Yuta Hibiki awakes in the house of his classmate Rikka Takarada with a problem - he’s lost all his memories. More concerning still, he’s the only one that can see the giant, silent, unmoving monsters towering over the city, and an armoured figure inside an old computer calling himself Gridman and telling Yuta that there’s something important that he must do. Before he has a chance to reach the sensible conclusion that he’s gone insane, a monster that’s indisputably real attacks. Yuta is sucked into the old computer, and merges with Gridman, allowing him to manifest as a giant defender in the real world to fight back. The next day, however, nobody except for Yuta and his friends remember anything about the giant monster attack, and the city is as good as new - with the only difference being that history seems to have been rewritten so that those who died at the hands of the monster were actually killed in unrelated circumstances years prior. Unbeknownst to Yuta, those killed were specifically singled out by the creator of the monster - the most popular girl in his class, Akane Shinjou. Yuta, his friends, Gridman and a band of peculiar new allies must fight to protect the lives of the innocents living in the city from monster attacks while attempting to figure out just what is going on.
The plot setup is strange, similar to that of the original 90s Toku series, but the show does an incredible job of selling you on it and drawing you in. You want to know more about what’s going on and what will happen next, and the show wastes admirably little of its short 12-episode runtime in delivering on the promise of its narrative. Each new episode manages to deliver both new revelations and fresh excitement in equal proportions - there’s basically nothing from this series that feels like it’s missing, yet also basically nothing that feels unnecessary either. I sometimes despair slightly how many more recent mecha anime have gotten shorter, with 12 or so episodes seeming to be the norm for all except the biggest new releases, but if all of them paced themselves as well as this show then it wouldn’t be an issue at all. I recently watched one very long old show in the shape of Heavy Metal L-gaim, and one shorter recent one in Knight’s and Magic, with the former feeling like it’s treading water for far too long and the latter skipping over too much in an effort to cram too much into a shorter run - Gridman, by contrast, is a superb example of how it should be done. That great pacing is in service of a surprisingly interesting plot, as well - it takes its interesting setup to even more interesting places, and ends up using them to address some interesting themes. To say too much would be to spoil it, which would be a disservice, but broadly it’s about how humans approach reality and the conflicts that issue from that.
That the series succeeds on this front is largely because of a really memorable cast of characters. While Yuta, the hero, isn’t especially memorable, Akane, the antagonist, is very much so - figuring out her deal is arguably the primary driving force behind the narrative. I honestly can’t say I can think of an antagonist in a mecha series that’s quite like her - though it’s revealed that she’s the villain in the first episode, you wouldn’t be likely to guess as much on seeing her for the first time, as she’s outwardly cheerful and seemingly normal - though it soon becomes apparent that this conceals a penchant for doling out incredibly harsh judgement for incredibly petty slights, just one aspect indicating a highly disturbed mindset. The show increasingly centres around her increasingly as it nears its climax, in a way that arguably makes her just as important to the narrative as the protagonists. The supporting cast are pretty excellent too, with standouts including Yuta’s firends Rikka and Utsumi, both of whom contribute to the plot in their own ways, Anti, a monster created by Akane disguised as a young boy who’s utterly obsessed with striking down Gridman and has an incredibly memorable character arc, and others besides.
Plot and characters are just one half of why the show’s so great though - the other half is its striking presentation. Trigger’s notable for animating with a very distinctive flair, whether that’s Kill la Kill or their also-excellent feature film Promare - after all, it’s made up by much of the talent that worked on Gurren Lagann. However, their approach to SSSS.Gridman was different, if no less striking for different reasons. For me, the show’s aesthetic is defined above all else by the contrast between the ordinary and the extraordinary. The show puts a great deal of effort into portraying mundane things - city streets, school halls and the like - and then contrasting that against the bizarre and spectacular. A great example of this are the frequent shots of busy streets full of people minding their own business, completely unaware of the mysterious, ominous monsters towering over everything quietly in the background. This even leaks through into the one scenes are directed - most of the dialogue is written in a way that feels very natural, with people talking to one another much how you’d expect them to in real life, over mundane topics, even as strange and spectacular things are happening around them. It has a double effect of enhancing the air of mystery around the strange aspects of the world, and also making the spectacular events, especially the battles between Gridman and monsters, seem all that more exciting when they come around. The mechanical and monster designs alike are spectacular, and their battles are blockbuster events. The show uses a mix of 2D and 3D animation for these. While 3D generally has probably finally reached a stage where it’s generally good enough to stand in for traditional 2D animation, at least for mechanical fights, few other shows exhibit the level of mastery that Trigger exhibit when using it in this series - largely due to their deft blending it with traditional 2D for certain shots, and fantastic judgement of when to use what manner of animation. Much of the battle animation even pays homage to classic super robot shows of the past. Ultimately, I think this show’s action is close to the top of the pile when it comes to mecha shows in general - but as I said earlier it’s the blend of the ordinary and extraordinary that makes it really stand out, and the same level of care was put into the most mundane scenes. The result is a beautiful and exquisitely detailed series from beginning to end.
Overall, I think SSSS.Gridman stands out, not just within this era, which is arguably a relatively weak one as far as mecha shows are concerned, but even within the grander body of work of mecha shows as a whole - which nobody would have expected from a followup to a hokey old 90s toku show. While their recent feature film Promare was also a spectacular accomplishment from the studio, I think this show’s probably my favourite thing that Trigger’s put out in their lifespan thus far. With one worthy sequel having already aired this year in the form of SSSS.Dynazenon, another still in the pipeline, and the series achieving entry into Super Robot Wars, it’s already starting to accrue the legacy that it arguably deserves as an instant modern classic.
Although, for my children, I try to enjoy Halloween again.
It used to be my favorite holiday. Christmas kind of moved up the list of favorite holidays. I kind of fell out of the whole hype since my dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Halloween.
Things were just not the same.
This is the fifth year anniversary of my first dog, Skippy, passing. He passed on Halloween back in 2016, in the afternoon. I still remember it like a scene in a film. I remember the anguish and devastation my mother and I felt when we took that long bus ride to the animal hospital. Aside the insane bill they charged us knowing Skippy was not going to make it and profit from our misery deceptively, his kidneys shut down and his heart was weak. Despite, all that, when we showed up, Skippy managed to, in his weak and frail state, stand up and wag his tail. I will always remember that look on his face. His eyes were full of tears and fogged. I was the one who held him as he left when the vet put him to sleep.
That experience always stands out to me. My first encounter with death was tragic and lonely. I cannot explain the feeling of impotence and other things I cannot make sense of or put into words. I don't feel pain anymore from it, but I do feel a deep sense of nostalgia and meloncholy when I reflect on Skippy, his life and how he no longer exists in this world and how it's even more strange and surreal how there's a point where you've become a vanishing memory of the past. I make the effort to keep Skippy's memory alive because he was a living being and an important living, breathing creature that made me happy and less lonely at one point. Skippy helped me step out of my depression from my youth
I was craving companionship and to have that experience of having a pet.
It's been 5 years and I still haven't forgotten Skippy and the memories we shared. It's hard having such a wonderful friend only live for such a short time.
I will always remember you once here, Skippy. I miss you terribly.
Far From Home
Pairing: Tom Holland x Actress!Reader
Summary: You play the role of supportive girlfriend at the Far From Home premiere with your long time boyfriend, Tom.
A/N: This wasn't requested, but after watching the stream of the Far From Home premiere I decided to write a little about it!
Word Count: 2,657
Warning: Some swearing, that's it! bit of fluff too
Tumblr media
You’d touched down in Los Angeles around 2 hours ago. Those 2 hours were mainly filled with hair dressers, make-up artists, and designers, along with small happy moments with your boyfriend. You hadn’t seen him in almost 3 weeks, but your flight was delayed from London so you arrived late. Meaning you had to start getting ready for the premiere the minute you made it to the hotel.
You sat in a large hotel room, Zendaya was sitting to your right, getting her make-up finished. Tom was slightly behind you, Law making him try on a variety of glasses. While Jacob was on the other side of the room, sitting on his phone with Harry next to him. The room was filled with laughter and talking from the cast, all of them extremely hyped up for tonights big moment.
Your make-up artist turned away for a few moments to rummage through her supplies. Tom waltzed over to you and stood next to you.
“What’d you think?” He asked, eyebrows raised while doing a cute little pose in his outfit.
“Maroon is definitely your colour, Tommy.” You smiled, looking up at him. His soft brown eyes looked down at you through the thin lenses of the glasses.
“I know.” He joked, he began to lower himself down, about to give you a peck before the make-up artist swatted him away.
“Don’t you dare, Tom. The lipstick isn't dry yet.” She stated, earning a loud laugh from you and Zendaya, along with a big pout from Tom.
---
A large group of you all met down in the lobby of the hotel. There wasn’t really any fans lingering around considering everyone was at the premiere. The group split up and all jumped in different black Audi SUV’s to make your way to the premiere. The particular car you jumped in with Nikki and Tom was decked out with webs painted all over the car, along with a large image of Spider-Man, which you all laughed over.
Tom was clearly nervous, his leg bounced and bounced, shaking against yours. You calmly put your hand on his thigh. “It’s okay. You’ve done this before and you can do it again. You’re a pro babe.” You spoke softly. He turned to face you and smiled.
“I’m just so nervous, and excited. It’s just a lot to process y’know. I feel like I’ve been waiting for months and the moments here. Right now.” He stammered.
“And like (Y/N) said, you're going to nail it.” Nikki stated. The three of you continuing to chat to aid in easing Toms nerves.
The car finally pulled up to the premiere. The road was barricaded off, with seemingly thousands of fans shoved against the metal fences. You looked on in awe. Being an actress, you’d been to many premieres, you even had the joy of going to the Avengers Endgame premiere, but this was on a new level. It was absolutely huge.
The car pulled to a stop and the three of you got out. A roar of screaming and shouting waved over you. Everyone was very excited to see Tom. You quietly moved towards Harry, Harrison, and Sam, who had arrived only moments earlier. Tom took a moment to wave at all the fans, only causing the screaming to escalate.
“How fucking crazy is this?” Sam stated, almost having to yell even though he stood right next to you.
“Homecoming was nowhere near this big.” Harrison replied.
“It’s because they heard I was coming, people love me.” Harry laughed, earning a punch from his twin and a chuckled from yourself and Harrison. You turned around to see Tom walking towards the fans. You genuinely thought some of the fans might pass out by the looks on their faces.
“I’m so proud of him.” Nikki spoke, not really to anyone in particular. She was definitely having a mum moment. Tom was surrounded by a team of security guards, more than usual. It always made you slightly nervous. You looked away, turning towards the set up of the premiere. You and Harrison chatted about the gigantic Spider-Man in the middle of the walkway, and about how many fans there were. You were interrupted as Tom finally made his way back to you.
His hand grabbed you waist, yourself and his family in a little huddle with security guards circling you.
“This is fucking insane!” Tom shouted, his grip on your hip tightening.
“We have to move in.” A security guard told the cluster of you. You very quickly grabbed Toms face, giving him a smooth kiss that he happily reciprocated.
“Go to the front.” You smiled. He looked down at you, completely in awe. For that very split second, you felt like the screaming stopped. All the buzz happening around you stopped and the two of you gazed at each other. The bright sun accentuating his sharp features. This was his night, and you were so unbelievably proud of him.
“I love you.” He softly grinned.
“I love you too, Tommy.”
He moved to the front of the pack and you snuck in between Sam and Harrison. It was a good thing you were used to premieres, otherwise this would've definitely been too much for you to handle.
You all made your way through the ‘red carpet’. It was completely bustling with people that you’d never seen before. Everyones phones out taking a thousand different photos. Tom had made his way over to the first interview of the night. A roar of Toms name began as he was speaking, and you couldn't see his face in the moment, but you could imagine the giant grin he would’ve been wearing. You and Tom usually lived in your own little bubble together. But it was nights like these that truly made you understand the effect he had on people, and just how famous he'd really become over the years.
The crew of you moved down the red carpet following along Tom in the background. He was immediately in the spotlight, photos being taken from every angle. Tuwaine quickly approached you giving you a kiss on the cheek and a sweet greeting. You’d been with Tom for so long now that you quickly became friends with his friends.
“How crazy is this?!” Tuwaine expressed, eyes wide.
“I know bro! It’s fucking mental.” Harry replied,
“Stop swearing so much, Harry.” Nikki quickly interjected, earning a laugh from Sam and yourself.
“You’re spending too much time with Tom, he's a bad influence.” You joked.
The five of you moved further down the carpet, the swarming crowd attempting to move with you. It was definitely strange not being in the spotlight tonight. It wasn't bad, but it was just so different.
You all finally made your way under the giant blow-up Spider-Man.
“Dude, the dick on this must be huge.” Harry commented, snark in his voice.
“It’s clearly actual size.” You retorted, trying to hold your composure.
“You’re vulgar!” Sam quickly added. Causing the three of you to laugh out. You’d always got on with the twins so well, and you were endlessly glad that they were here tonight.
Tom suddenly arrived in front of you. “Come.” He said quickly, his hand grabbing yours and dragging you out from your group, without time to reply.
Without a moments notice, you were in the spotlight. Tom’s hand has resumed its usual position around your waist. A smile immediately hit your lips. You would’ve cursed Tom out if you weren't so used to this.
“How crazy is this?” He spoke, his head still facing the cameras with his usual smouldering look.
“You’re clearly a very popular man, Holland.” You replied. Paparazzi were yelling from every possible angle.
The two of you furthered your way down the carpet. Eventually he branched off, and you returned to the family. He began doing interview after interview. The family and yourself were pushed further towards the barricades and you watched as people took photos of all of you, the twins and Harrison all taking their moments to smile and pose.
After a moment, you noticed an interviewer you recognised. She was from ET and she’d interviewed you a few times for movies before. You quickly swooped over to greet her.
“(Y/N)! It’s so good to see you.” She exclaimed,
“You too, Keltie, how are you?”
“I’m fantastic, do you mind getting an interview with us!”
“You know I’m not in the movie, right?” You joked in response.
“Yea of course! But we love you at Entertainment Tonight and we always love speaking with you!” She grinned from ear to ear.
“Alright, sure, just because I love ET.” You responded.
She made a few motions to get the cameras rolling and everything set up.
“Alright! We’re here with (Y/N) (Y/L/N) at the Spider-Man Far From Home premiere!” She spoke enthusiastically, turning to face you, “obviously you’re here playing the role of supportive girlfriend for tonight, how is it being at a premiere for a movie you’re actually not featuring in for once?” She asked, pointing the camera towards you.
“Well, I’m loving being the supportive girlfriend, it’s definitely a very easy role to play when you’re supporting someone as fantastic as Tom Holland. And it’s kinda nice not having the pressure of the movie on my shoulders, y’know? I can really just relax and enjoy my evening.” You laughed.
“Are you excited to finally see the film?”
“Of course! I’ve always been a Marvel fan and I’m super excited to see where they’re taking the universe in this film, and I’m really excited to see how the movie turned out. I know Tom and the rest of the cast really put their all into the movie and I know it’s going to be absolutely amazing, so I’m super excited.”
“And we saw some Instagram posts last year of you in Venice with the crew, what was it like being on set with everyone?”
“Oh it was amazing! Venice is such an incredible place and I was super lucky to get a break from work to go hang out with everyone for a few days. I’ve known the cast since Homecoming so it’s really just like hanging out with a bunch of my best friends.”
“That’s awesome! And finally, we have to ask, with all the new Spider-Man suits in the film, which suit is your all time favourite!?”
“Some heavy hitting questions here!” You laugh, “I mean, I love the Iron-Spider suit because it just looks so awesome in the films, but honestly I’d really have to say I love the original, like, sweat suit thing that Peter Parker makes. I just think it’s so authentic, like obviously a 15 year-old isn't going to make a super flash, intricate suit. Like it’s really just a jumper, some sweat pants, and some finger-less gloves, which I think is so hilarious!” You grin as the interviewer laughs along.
“I love that! Thank you so much for talking with us (Y/N)! We’ll let you go continue to smash the supportive girlfriend role!”
“Aw, thank you for having me!” You drift away from the interviewer, noticing Tom’s family had moved further down. You couldn't even spot Tom. You slowly moved through the crowd, trying your best to stay away from cameras.
“(Y/N)! (Y/N) (Y/L/N)! (Y/N)!” People were yelling your name left and right. Another interviewer popped up in front of you, she was someone you’d met before, and she’d interviewed you on very short occasions at other premieres.
“(Y/N) (Y/L/N)! Do you mind if we steal you for a quick interview?” She asked, politely enough.
“I really didn't think people would want to interview me, I’m honestly not in this movie at all!” You laughed back, not really wanting to do an interview.
“Of course we want to interview you! You’re the woman of the hour tonight!” She stated back, pitching very hard for an interview.
“Well, I would definitely have to say Zendaya is the woman of the hour, but sure, let’s do a quick interview.” You smiled softly, knowing that it would be a 3 minute interview, and she would stop pestering you if you did.
“(Y/N) (Y/L/N), it’s so good to see you, you look absolutely stunning tonight!” She complimented, the mic gripped tightly in her hand as the camera filmed the two of you.
“Thank you so much.”
“So, Spider-Man Far From Home, how excited are you?”
“Yea, super excited. I truly do know how hard the cast has worked for this, and I know how much effort and time goes into a Marvel movie, so I’m just really excited to see how the film turns out.” You smiled,
“Do you know much about the movie already?”
“I wish I could say I didn't, but I do know probably most of it. I think Tom tried to hide it from me for a while, but he just wasn’t good at containing it and ended up telling me pretty much all of the plot. But it’s definitely better that he tells me instead of letting it all out in an interview or something.” You laugh,
“Of course! Oh and speaking of-” She was cut short by someone grabbing your hip, you turned slightly to see Tom behind you,
“She’s getting interviewed! She’s not even in the movie!” A loud British voice joked. He shuffled so he stood next to you, the smooth fabric of his suit against your arm, his palm lightly rubbing your other hip as he held you close. “Hey darling.” He whispered.
“Tom Holland has just joined us! How are you feeling for the premiere tonight!?” Her attention was immediately moved to him.
“I’m so excited! This is huge! I didn't realise there would be so many people, no one told me how big this was gonna be!” He answer, you watching him with a soft smile.
“How is it having so many people here supporting you?”
“It’s incredible, I mean, pretty much my whole family is here and so many of my mates came tonight, and obviously my beautiful girlfriend is here with me,” he looked at you with loving eyes, “and it’s so nice to share this film with all of them because they’re all obviously my biggest support system, so it’s really nice.”
“And when are we finally going to see a movie with the two of you together?”
You both chuckled at the question, “who knows!” Tom quickly stated,
“At the moment I think we’re happy enough with the off-screen romance, but maybe one day.” You added, with a shrug.
“What’s it like having to see your boyfriend having a romance with someone else on-screen! Obviously with the MJ and Peter romance in this film, is there any jealousy?” As she spoke, you felt Tom gripping you tighter, you even saw his jaw clench out of the corner of your eye.
“Of course there’s jealousy! I’m so jealous that Peter gets to be with MJ! I mean have you seen Zendaya? Have you seen her!? She’s literally the most beautiful person ever! I’d love to get to have an on-screen romance with her!” You joked. You knew the interviewer would want some stupid ‘scoop’ about it all, but you were a seasoned professional at this point. Tom relaxed quickly.
The interviewer laughed along and you two quickly moved away, furthering yourself down the carpet.
“I really, really love you.” Tom whispered, his head right next to yours.
“I really, really love you too, and I’m so proud of you. All this-” you motioned towards the giant red carpet, and fans, and cameras, “you worked so hard for this, and you really deserve it, babe.” You smiled, he grinned back.
“Thank you, darling.”
