though mordú is a cisgendered man and comfortable existing as such, i have been thinking more and more about gender, presentation, traditions that may pertain to him ( as a queer person myself, i would like to weave more variety into my canon and explore different angles. mostly as a comfort to myself— though perhaps you may find comfort in that as well ). and i do not think that he persists in a strictly binary system, nor is he all that familiar with such a thing, such a concept as a whole.
of course this is all breaking with canon ( and may require the rewriting of some canon events, potentially ), but you may be assured that i have no issue with that whatsoever. ( read lighthearted, tongue in cheek )
númenor is depicted largely traditional in the works we have been given. though i feel like a restriction of gender to societal expectations, roles and presentation, as well as gender and sex being a means of oppression and power, does not suit this nation and is a disservice to the plethora of human existence and perception that exists. i am loathe to think that the wondrous sciences they devised, their traditions and philosophies are looked at through a lens of western christianity, for one.
in my mind, númenor is a blend of many, often ancient, mainland cultures that have then developed independently upon the isle for many generations, creating something unique and yet not entirely removed. gender is a thing of fluidity, more tied to a function someone may have in society, not to the person themselves. allowing said person to settle into an environment that best suits their innermost self as well as their interests && abilities. a distinction of someone being lesser or inferior made by gender and sex are foreign to mordú. that is not to say there are no distinctions between men and women in general— this is more about culture and society as a whole, overarching concept.
mordú is indeed a villain, and a reprehensible person, but i labor that his villainy is not channeled through such concepts at all. his were always themes of self-destruction and self-fulfillment, the achievement of his goals and the agony in the wake of it. betrayal of one's spirit.
#;; a mind so free and yet in shackles ( headcanon )#this is more of a loose collection of first thoughts#not an essay#also; medieval catholicism can be insanely interesting and insanely insane— vastly different from what we know to be the norm today#it's just not something i want to desperately explore with mordú#i'd like to compile more detailed views in the future#as always; i do encourage people to chime in on these hcs if they like#all lived experiences are different; and can offer unique views

HARRY POTTER MASTERLIST!
ONCE A MAN FALLS IN LOVE, he finds himself drawn to not just the physical beauty of his muse, but for the essence of who the person truly is - their quirks, intelligence, kindness, and their unique way of seeing the world. Every interaction, every shared experience, every memory he brings, adds another layer to his adoration towards the love of his life.
His love for them is evident in the little things - the way he watches them when they aren't looking, the small gestures of thoughtfulness, the silent support during their dark moments of life. It's in the way he listens, truly listens, to the hopes and dreams, fears and frustrations, always eager to offer his thoughts and ideas. This love manifests in his desire to be their anchor in times of storm, their cheerleader in moments of triumph, and their person in all the in-betweens. It is a love that values their independence and individuality, recognizing that they are their own person with their own journey, and yet, he longs to be a part of that journey, to walk alongside them and share in their joys and sorrows of life.
Mattheo Riddle was no different.
He marvels at your kindness, your sweetness, and the light you bring into his life. You are his muse, his inspiration, a spark of the goodness that stands in stark contrast to his own perceived flaws and insecurities he feels deep inside himself. He sees you as an angel, a pure and radiant being who somehow chose to share your life with him, despite his own imperfections and inner demons.
He sees you as an angel in a human form, who chose to live among the devils, just so he could feel the heavenly touch for the first and last time in all eternity.
He often wonders how he, with all his rough edges, hidden scars, and a past life without a happy memory, could be worthy of your love. He feels like a monster, haunted by past mistakes and burdened by the weight of his own fears and failings. You, on the other hand, are everything he aspires to be - kind, compassionate, and endlessly forgiving. Your presence in his life is a constant reminder of the beauty and grace that he lacks, and yet, your love makes him strive to be better, to rise above his darkness and become someone worthy of your affection.
In his heart, he knows that your love is transforming him, helping him to heal and grow. Your existence is a light that dispels his inner darkness, a reminder for him to cherish that even monsters like him can be loved. He clings to this, that your love is making him a better man, one day at a time.
01. THE PARTY
The Slytherin common room was full of shadows and flickering lights, transformed into a wild moment of freedom for the night. The music, a thundering beat that echoed off the stone walls, could be heard from miles away, yet no professor or ghost visited the common room to cancel the party. It was as if the ancient castle itself had granted this one night of freedom to its most cunning and ambitious students. The rhythmic thrum of bass notes and the infectious melody of the latest wizarding hits filled the air, blending with the sound of laughter and the clink of glasses.
Bodies moved in a hypnotic dance, swaying in sync with the music. The students had discarded their usual aloof demeanors and uniforms, lost in the euphoria and joy of the moment. Green and silver decorations adorned every surface, shimmering under the enchanted lights that hung from the ceiling like glowing jewels. Laughter rang out, high and clear, mingling with the deep, resonant hum of conversation.
In one corner, a group of seventh years huddled together, their heads bent close in a whisper, before erupting into loud laughter. Nearby, a couple twirled around each other, their bodies intertwining like dark waves, eyes locked in their private world amidst the chaos around them. The fireplace, usually a place of quiet contemplation, was now surrounded by students perched on its stone ledge, their eyes gleaming with the thrill of the night and alcohol.
Long tables filled with food and drink stretched along one wall, bearing the weight of a feast other students could be jealous of. Platters of magical meals, charmed to stay warm, smelled of aromas that mingled with the scent of butterbeer and stronger beverages. Bottles of firewhisky and elf-made wine were passed from hand to hand, each sip fueling the atmosphere more and more as drunken the students got. The alcohol flowed freely, loosening tongues, transforming even the shyest students into party animals of the night.
The Slytherin common room had never felt so alive. Tonight, they were not just the students of Hogwarts; they were a family, united by their house and their understanding of what it meant to be a Slytherin.
Mattheo Riddle was one of those students who were enjoying themselves tonight. His breathing features were illuminated by the green lights as he leaned casually against a stone wall, a cup of firewhisky filled to the brim in his hand. The amber liquid sloshed perilously close to the edge with each of his slowed gestures, but Mattheo seemed unconcerned, clearly lost in the haze of alcohol. His dark curls, usually styled in the way that made uncountable amount of girls fall on their knees, now fell loose around his face as you watched from a close distance.
He was engaged in a drunken conversation with Theodore Nott, whose tall, lanky frame was the opposite to Mattheo's more athletic build. Theo's typically serious demeanor had softened, his features relaxed into a rare, genuine smile as he listened to Mattheo's ramblings with a giggle threatening to spill out from his lips. The two of them, often seen together, now looked like true brothers. It was almost scary how much they resembled family when they were drunk.
Mattheo's voice, rich and slightly slurred, carried over the music as he recounted a particularly outrageous story from his recent fight. Theodore threw his head back and laughed. It was clear to anyone how close those two boys were, drunk or sober.
"Can you believe he actually thought I was serious?" Mattheo snickered with a big grin stretching across his face, taking a swig from his cup, the whiskey burning a warm path down his throat. "I mean, I barely managed to keep a straight face!"
Theodore laughed, shaking his head in disbelief. "You're a menace, Riddle. One of these days, you're going to get expelled."
"Ah, but tonight isn't that night, mate," Mattheo replied with a slow wink, raising his glass in a mock toast. "To living dangerously and laughing in the face of consequences!"
They clinked their cups together, the sound barely audible over the throbbing beat of the music and you thought now was the best time to approach your boyfriend.
Mattheo's brown irises scanned the crowd, catching a look of you as you pushed your way through the crowd of dancing bodies. The sight of you instantly brightened his expression and a genuine smile spread across his face. He felt a rush of emotions that the whiskey in his hand only intensified, each beat of his heart echoing with the certainty that what he held for you was pure love. The Slytherin straightened up, his posture shifting from the casual slouch of a carefree boy to the attentive stance of a man. Theodore noticed the change and a knowing smirk made its appearance on his lips as he stepped aside, giving the two of you a moment of privacy.
"[Name]," your boyfriend called out, his voice full of warmth. He reached out, his fingers lightly brushing against yours as you came closer. "There you are, love."
You beamed up at him, your eyes reflecting the party's enchanted lights, making them look like twin stars. "Having fun, are we?" you teased and the tone of your voice carried a playful match that always managed to make his heart skip a beat.
"Only now that you're here," he replied. The world around you seemed to blur as he gazed down at you, all the noise and chaos fading into the background. "You make everything better."
Drunk on both the whiskey and his overwhelming affection, the boy's usual reservations melted away. He held you close, his hands resting on your waist as if anchoring himself to your presence. When he was sober or feeling down at heart, his love for you was often hidden beneath layers of stoicism and insecurity, but now, in this moment of happy drunkenness, it shone through.
He bent down, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, then your cheek, and finally your lips, enjoying the sweetness of the contact. "I'm so lucky to have you," he murmured against your lips, his voice thick with emotion. "I don't deserve you, but I'm going to spend every day trying to be worthy of your love."
“You have no idea what you mean to me. I look at you and . . . it’s like you’re the sun and I’m just a planet orbiting around you, soaking up your light,” he continued without a break. The boy wanted to get every one of his words out as fast as humanly possible. To show you his hidden feelings he wasn't able to tell you before. “You’re my everything, [Name]. I don’t know how I got so lucky. You’re so kind, so . . . good. And me? I’m just . . . I’m a mess, you know? A monster sometimes.”
You shook your head lightly and took his hands into your own, enveloping him with your warmth. He was starting to get emotional, and you didn't need to have your boyfriend drunkenly mopping around. His mood changed like weather when alcohol got involved. “You’re not a monster, Mattheo. You’re human. We all have our demons.”
“But you,” he didn't allow you to finish your sentence before he spoke up again, his voice raw with sincerity, “you make me want to be better. For you. I see you, and I just want to be the man you deserve. I’m not always good at it, but I try. I try because you’re worth it.”
You could see the glazed look in his eyes as he swayed slightly on the spot. He was rough around the edges, you couldn't deny the truth, but he was the sweetest boy when he managed to fall in love. Which wasn't exactly difficult, Mattheo fell in love easily. But when he did, it was worth everything. Mattheo was your sweet boy. “Love,” you said softly to him, your voice filled with gentle concern to the brim, “you’ve had a bit too much to drink. Maybe it’s time to slow down a little, okay?”
Mattheo blinked, giving you a lopsided grin, his expression a mix of boyish charm and pure happiness. “But I’m fine, [nickname]. I feel great. Better than great, actually. With you here, everything’s perfect.”
“I know you’re having a good time, but I don’t want you to feel terrible tomorrow. Let’s take a break from the firewhisky for now, alright?”
He pouted slightly, his shoulders slumping as he realized you were actually serious. “You’re probably right,” he admitted, a hint of reluctance in his voice. “But only because you’re asking me.” You chuckled softly at his behavior, threading your fingers through his and gently leading him away from the dancing crowd. You navigated through the common room, moving towards a quieter corner of the space where a plush couch sat, inviting you both in with open arms. The room’s enchantments cast soft shadows on the walls, the flickering lights creating a soothing atmosphere.
“Here, sit down,” you instructed as you guided him to sit on the couch. Mattheo obeyed, sinking into the cushions with a contented sigh. You sat beside him, your hand never leaving his. You took the half-empty cup of whiskey from his hold, reaching for a glass of water on the table nearby instead and handing it to him. “Drink this. It’ll help.”
Mattheo took the glass, his fingers brushing against yours as he did. He took a long sip, the cool water a welcome relief from the heat of the alcohol he consumed. “You really do take good care of me, don’t you?” he murmured, his head resting against the back of the couch as he looked at you with a mixture of admiration and exhaustion.
“Someone has to,” you replied playfully, brushing a stray curl of hair from his forehead. “And I wouldn’t want anyone else to have the job.”
As the night wore on, Mattheo felt a warmth spreading through him that was only partly due to the whiskey. It was the warmth of belonging, of being surrounded by friends who understood and accepted him, flaws and all. Despite his often rough exterior, he was deeply grateful for these moments, these stolen hours of joy in the corners of the Slytherin common room.
02 - THE MARK
The past has a profound power to shape a man, especially when that past is influenced by suffering at the hands of a father.
For Mattheo Riddle, his family history was the darkest shadow of all the shadows that clung to him, a reminder of the pain and fear that had molded his entire life. Raised in a home devoid of warmth, where love was a foreign concept and cruelty was a daily reality, Mattheo had learned to build tall and thick walls around his heart. A shield to protect him from more hurt that would come his way.
The orphanage was a harsh place, stripped of the luxuries the boy had unknowingly been born into. It was a world of strict discipline and a poor form of affection. The caretakers, overwhelmed and underfunded, had little patience for a child with such a notorious legacy. Mattheo grew up under the weight of whispers and sideways glances, the infamous name "Riddle" ensuring he was never just another child. The women of the orphanage knew his father, having taken care of him when he was around the same age as his son. What a wicked child Tom was. Mattheo was different because of that, marked, and this awareness shaped his formative years in ways he could barely comprehend.
As he grew older, the whispers about his family name became more pronounced. The children at the orphanage were cruel. “Monster,” they called him, creating the very fears that nested within his own heart. He began to internalize these taunts, seeing himself through the lens of his father's sins. The idea that he could be worthy of love seemed more and more distant, more of a fantasy that had no place in his reality. But the same idea of letting someone see past his defenses, of allowing someone to love him despite his flaws, seemed not only impossible but dangerous. For how could anyone love a monster, especially one crafted by his own father?
Despite this, Mattheo yearned for something more. He longed for the kind of love he had never known, a love that was gentle and kind, that saw past his scars and accepted him for who he was. But every time he felt himself getting close to someone, the fear surged up, a wave of doubt and self-loathing washed over him and forced him to retreat behind his walls again. It was a never-ending cycle.
Hogwarts had saved him.
Mattheo Riddle’s first steps into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were met with a mixture of curiosity, awe, and apprehension. For the other students, he was a figure of whispered rumors, his infamous last name carrying with it a weight of fear and fascination. They had heard the stories of his father’s dark acts, of the legacy that haunted the halls of the castle like a ghost. But for Mattheo himself, Hogwarts represented a new beginning, a chance to escape the personal hell he called the orphanage and create his own path. The boy was no longer just another orphan. Here, he could be anything he wanted to be.
He wasn't deaf. The young boy could feel the weight of his father’s name bearing down on him like an invisible burden. And he wasn't blind either. He saw the way the other students looked at him, their eyes flickering with a mixture of fear and suspicion. They didn’t openly taunt him as the children in the orphanage had done, but he could sense the whispers and the wary glances that followed him wherever he went. For Mattheo, however, their fear was a source of power. He reveled in the attention, in the way his presence commanded respect, even if it was tinged with fear. He was finally someone.
He excelled in his classes, his natural talent and restless ambition setting him apart from his peers. But it was on the Quidditch pitch that Mattheo truly came into his own. Flying high above the castle grounds, he felt a sense of freedom unlike anything he had ever known. With every twist and turn of his broomstick, he left behind the weight of his past and embraced the thrill of the present, making him feel like a bird.
Six years had passed since Mattheo Riddle first walked through the grand doors of Hogwarts, a hopeful and determined young wizard with dreams of greatness he was so sure he'd achieve. But now, as he entered his sixth year at the renowned school of magic, the world around him had shifted irrevocably. The return of Lord Voldemort two years prior had plunged the wizarding world into chaos, and with it, Mattheo’s life had been destroyed once again.
Even among his fellow Slytherins, Mattheo felt like an outsider, a traitor to his own house and everything it stood for. He had once prided himself on his ambition and cunning, on his unwavering determination to succeed at any cost. But it didn't matter anymore.
Mattheo sat alone in the quiet atmosphere of the Astronomy Tower, his gaze fixed on the night sky that sparkled with millions of stars. Each twinkling light seemed to mock him, making fun of the darkness that now stained his soul even more than before. His fingers gripped the sleeve of his jacket tightly, as if seeking some comfort in the fabric, but finding none.
On his left forearm, the Dark Mark burned like a brand upon his skin. It was a mark of shame, of betrayal, and every time he looked upon it, he felt a sickening sense of disgust and self-loathing. He had thought that by aligning himself with the Dark Lord, his father, he would finally be able to escape the shadows of his past, to prove himself worthy of the name Riddle and his father's presence. But now, he realized that he had only succeeded in plunging himself deeper into the deep hole. Even the orphanage was better than this.
The footsteps behind him shattered the sweet silence, echoing off the stone walls of the tower. Mattheo tensed, his heart racing as he turned to face the intruder, steeling himself for whatever judgment or punishment awaited him. But as he turned, he was met not with the accusing glare of Filch or the triumphant sneer of a rival, but with the concerned gaze of a familiar face. It was you, with your eyes filled with worry as you approached him slowly, as if he'd disappear if you were a bit louder.
“I’ve been looking for you everywhere. Are you alright?”
No, he wasn't alright. But he would be caught dead sooner than having you worry about him like that and more.
He forced a tight-lipped smile, attempting to mask the emotions raging within him. “I’m fine,” he replied, his voice strained with the effort of maintaining the facade. “Just . . . thinking.”
You stepped closer, taking a seat on the ground beside him. “You don’t have to pretend with me, Mattheo. I know something’s been troubling you lately. You can talk to me.”
You were his angel, full of that purity and light he adored about you in a world darkened by his own sins. He longed to confide in you, to unburden himself of the guilt and shame that had consumed him since he had received the Dark Mark. But the fear of your rejection, of you seeing him for the monster he believed himself to be, held him back. It would shatter his heart, to see the pained expression on your face.
“I . . .” he began, his voice faltering as he struggled to find the words, "there's something I need to show you." With a heavy heart and trembling hands, Mattheo finally mustered the courage to reveal the truth to you. For months, he had carried the burden of the dark secret alone, pushing you out and shutting you down in an attempt to shield and protect you from the darkness that was his father. But now, as he sat before you, his heart and his soul laid bare, he knew that he could no longer hide from the truth. The boy reached for the sleeve of his jacket, his fingers fumbling as he pushed the fabric up to reveal the twisted lines of the Dark Mark etched upon his skin. The sight of it made him recoil, a wave of shame washing over him as he exposed his deepest, darkest secret to the one person he had sworn to protect.
Your eyes widened in shock as you took in the mark, your palm flying to your mouth in disbelief. For a long moment, there was silence between the two of you, broken only by the sound of your shallow breathing and the distant hum of the night owls.
“I received this a few weeks ago," Mattheo confessed, his eyes avoiding yours. "When he decided I was good enough for him."
He felt your gaze on him, eyes searching his face for answers. He could see the confusion and concern written in your expression, but beneath it all, he saw something else - a flicker of understanding and acceptance that filled him with both hope and fear. How can someone be so good to someone like him? "I've been living with the Malfoys ever since," he continued, the words tumbling out in a rush as he struggled to explain himself. "But it's not what you think, [Name]. I never wanted any of this. I never wanted to be a part of his plans, to be branded as one of his followers. But I had no choice. He made me do it."
Tears welled in his eyes as he spoke, and he felt a desperate plea for forgiveness in his chest. He needed you to understand, to see past the mistakes that consumed him and into the depths of his soul where his love for you burned bright and true. The thought of losing you hurt him more than the Cruciatus curse ever could.
“Forgive me. For shutting you out, for pushing you away. I was scared, I was ashamed . . . but I can't bear to keep this secret from you any longer. You deserve to know the truth, even if it means losing you forever."
Your heart swelled with a bittersweet mixture of sorrow as you gazed upon Mattheo, your sweet boy, sitting there before you with tears in his eyes and the weight of the world upon his shoulders. In that moment, all you wanted was to wrap him in your arms and shield him from the pain and darkness that threatened to consume him. With shaky hands, you reached out to him, fingers brushing against the mark of his father's followers etched upon his skin. The sight of it filled you with a fit of fierce anger, but beneath it all, you saw the boy you so dearly loved - a boy who had been shaped by his past but who was so much more than the picture of his scars.
"Love," you whispered into the dark, taking his face into your hands and wiping away those tears that managed to escape his control, "there's nothing to forgive. Nothing in this world could ever tear us apart, not even your father or that mark."
In that moment, Mattheo knew that he would do anything for you, that he would move heaven and earth to ensure your happiness and safety. You were his light in the darkness, his angel in a world filled with demons, and he would cherish that for the time being his heart swelled at the thought of you. You were simply too sweet for him and you knew that Mattheo’s struggles were far from over, but for tonight, that was enough.

How about some wedding/honeymoon headcannons for Cyrus, Larry, and whoever else you want? 💚
SO. I did Submas stuff for weddings already. So they're out, but you can read it here.
I tossed in some assorted person headcanons too... I hope that's alright lol
cw: sort of long?, fluff, weddings, proposals,
characters: Cyrus, Larry, Nanu, Grimsley
🌌Cyrus🛰
☄️ Marriage is admittedly something that he tries to avoid. Inherently, he sees nothing wrong with it. More so, he views it logically as a legal union between two people to make asset inheritance and division easier. The issue comes up due to his past with it. His parents had tried to force him into multiple arranged marriages. For people of his social standing, it was normal. Expected, even, but the thought of being legally tied to someone his parents had decided for him left him sleepless for many nights. Yet… when it came to you, his current partner, the idea was growing to bother him less and less. After his plans… went awry, he found himself even more comfortable with the idea. His plan had always been to propose the idea anyway. Which is what he did. Quite bluntly, he held his hand out to you and spoke, “Beloved, marry me and hold this hand.” It was not posed as a question – No, it was simply a statement. You had no intention of saying no, anyway.
☄️ A wedding was not at all on his mind. He saw no use in a decorative ceremony for what could just as easily be done within legal parameters in a more quiet and easy manner. You will just be added to his family registry. Simple as that. Nothing flashy or traditional – Legality only. Granted, he would allow a smaller party if that was what you wanted. It is more tame than a wedding and is composed of a few select friends and family members. Cyrus's side is lacking, to say the least, but his commanders show up, as does his grandfather, unexpectedly. The event is likely held somewhere at the Galactic building on a day off and makes the event almost feel like a weird office party. It is all a bit odd, but Cyrus was not exactly known for his normal proclivities. It is overall a good time, and you even awkwardly get to feed him cake while he tries to remain collected.
☄️ Cyrus struggles to comprehend why he should take a while off from work to enjoy his marriage. To him, it is illogical. Being married to you does not change your situation. You have lived with him for a while leading up to everything, so there is no adjustment period. Still, you clearly wanted it, so he would relent and take off work. It was to say no as well when Mars seemed to glare at him until he did. Her investment in his love life bewildered him. Even Jupiter seemed to get in on it. He almost felt forced out of the office and onto a vacation with you. His choice in location was originally going to be somewhere else in Sinnoh, but it changed when Mars and Jupiter suggested something more grand. Jubilife was not grand – It was a day trip.
☄️ Instead, you both went to Johto. Something about the traditional charm drew him in. It seemed like a quieter and more peaceful place as opposed to other options. He opts to stay in Ecruteak to allow you both to fully absorb the area's unique scenery. You both spend a lot of time in the inn that he somehow booked despite it apparently usually requiring months prior reservation. The old building's charm intrigued him. Yet, you both visited many of the different offerings of Johto. Goldenrod caught his attention quite thoroughly, but he seemed to enjoy the peace that both Ecruteak and Violet held. You both opted against Cianwood and Olivine for a few reasons.
☄️ The most memorable part was… climbing Mt. Silver. Cyrus's previous training paid off, and it was a fun bonding activity. It also made soaking in a hot bath at the inn all the better. A few day trips over to Kanto made the trip all the better, too. Ultimately, Cyrus felt glad he took the experience and deeply enjoyed the precious moments spent with you. Though, it was less of a honeymoon and more of a general vacation.

🍙 Marriage crossed Larry's mind a few times over the years. It was something that he wanted aspired for at one point, but that had gone away as his work quickly became overwhelming and made meeting people outside of it difficult. His age was also a concern. Being middle-aged did not make marriage any easier to achieve. Yet, here he was, readying himself to propose exactly that. The stress swirled in his mind as his hands tied his tie from muscle memory alone. Rika had suggested something simple. A nice date out and then pulling out a ring in a quiet, isolated location.
He naturally asked you out to one of the nicer restaurants in Medali and planned to walk with you into a quieter part of the city to ask you. Dinner had gone well. Sharing a meal truly was one of the best ways to bond with another person… His confidence felt oddly higher as he brought you to the amphitheatre. The location was almost entirely deserted when he turned to you and fumbled down to one knee. The ring was brought out with all the stiffness expected of carrying a stack of papers. He made uncomfortable eye contact and cleared his throat, “… Marry me?” Despite everything, you were more than eager to take the ring and agree to his simple request.
🍙 He does not really care for anything wedding related. Truthfully, he was panicking thinking about how he could schedule it in to his itinerary. He expected Geeta to hear that he was engaged and dump extra work on him instantly in reply. Instead, she gave one of her polite smiles and a quiet applause for him. He was given a few days off, stating that it was about time for him to settle down. He still is not sure that he wants the stress of a ceremony. Though, he does relent if his partner asks specifically for one. He would only ask that it be a smaller one. For him, the part and parcel that matters most is simply signing the paperwork and having it notarised under the letter of the law. He would also be fine with a reception party afterwards. His fellow league members would likely pop in and happily chat about how they cannot believe the ageing man finally did it. He is just eating the food provided in the background. His favourite memory is you feeding him a slice of the wedding cake, at least.
🍙 Larry almost wants to beg to just take your honeymoon at home. He is exhausted, and having so much time off almost makes him want to sleep for the entirety of it. After all, it was not like your situation was heavily changed from anything. Legally, you were married, but he would not deny that he had basically begun to treat you like his spouse even before he thought about proposing. Though, for whatever reason, Poppy seemed to gush to Rika about how lucky it was for Larry, and you get to go on a romantic trip together. Rika then turned around and asked where he was going. The green-haired woman was shocked with his reply and essentially insisted on doing something – Even just getting out of Medali! He did relent, especially if you had previously asked about taking a trip for it.
🍙 Somehow, Alola becomes the settled location. Larry felt nervous about putting everything together but became intrigued when finally both landed in the tropical paradise. Hau'oli city was definitely a tourist area filled with the hustle and bustle of people. Yet, he felt the slow pace of the region began to sink into him as you both took a boat ride across to Akala island. The Tide Song Hotel was very accommodating and pleasant. He could almost sleep an entire day away in the bed, yet you absolutely made it clear that you desired his attention. The two of you ventured around to see the natural beauty provided by the islands and even found Larry a friend in a Drampa by accident. He felt as if Hassel was standing before him in pokemon form. There are even a few romantic moments spent together watching the ocean together from your hotel room's balcony or sitting together on the beach. Larry, however, would admit the food was the most memorable thing for him. He recalled some older look at him in shock as he ordered seconds at the Sushi High Roller. Ultimately, the honeymoon ends up more as a nice getaway than anything overly romantic, but it does have its moments.
🐈⬛️Nanu❤️🩹
🌑 Marriage… He does not think it ever really crossed his mind. It was not like he did not want it, but more so that his path in life did not exactly align with it. Marriage was far from his mind while he was an International Police officer, and then by the time he found himself back in Alola, he had the role of Kahuna forced on him. Love was not something he actively sought out, yet it found him. Marriage had not been something he considered until his heart had been captured by you. It felt strange to be considering a proposal at his age.
🌑 A ring was easy enough to get, but how did he do this? Hala said to just ask while Olivia suggested something grand. He felt exhausted while thinking about it. Yet, he did not want you to feel like he did not care. He found himself inviting you out to Route 14 just as the sun was beginning to set. His hand grasped the ring box in his pocket as he gazed at the water. Eventually, he found himself holding the ring box out to you while scratching the back of his head. “You can say no,” Nanu felt almost like you would. He worried that you were going to break a bone with how tightly you held him.
🌑 He dreaded the idea of a wedding ceremony. Alolan ones were often overly romanticised, but the idea stressed him out. The Tapu might even decides to make an appearance and make everything all the more exhausting. It almost felt like an obligation as a Kahuna, and you might even have your heart set on it. If you do, he will warn you clearly that the ceremony will have some odd moments. Despite that, if you still insist, he will obligate. It almost feels a bit like a festival with how all the other Kahunas and a few captains show up. Acerola was beyond excited to fill in as a flower girl. The officiant got scared by Tapu Bulu's loud cry when he allowed you to come together for an interesting ending. Nanu pressed his forehead to yours – not for a kiss – but for a shared breath. Apparently, it was a tradition. The Tapu seemed proud to see its choice of a Kahuna finally settling down. Nanu would admit that he enjoyed it despite the hassle in the end. The end of the wedding was followed by a feast, in which everyone seemed more than ready to congratulate the old man on his accomplishment. Hala gave a full laugh after saying his piece. The day was truly something joyous on Ula'Ula
🌑 Nanu did not understand the need for a honeymoon… First, he would have to get the Tapu's permission, which might get rejected, and then he would have to leave someone else in charge. He just wanted to accept the change in the comfort of your shared home. Besides, Alola was already considered the location for honeymooners. Most people paid insane amounts of money to spend time here. You lived here with him… Is that not enough? Olivia actually agreed with that one unexpectedly, too, but Acerola seemed to demand that you two take an actual trip. He struggled to even think of anywhere to go. Sure, his job used to take him all over, but now all he wanted was to stay and relax. Olivia suggests Unova. Tapu Bulu accepted his request. He could not escape this fate.
🌑 Unova ended up being the destination. Nanu was not unfamiliar with the region, but he would not say that he was overly familiar either. The region was busy, yet full of entertainment. Nimbasa was where you both found your honeymoon anchored. The city was vibrant and exciting. Nanu felt like he was in an entirely different world than the one that he had grown accustomed to in Alola. Yet, you both quickly took to exploring the sights. The amusement park was a thrilling and allowed for a romantic moment between you both on the Ferris wheel. The musicals showed a strange form of entertainment that had not quite made its way to Alola... You both even tried out the Battle Subway but found yourselves defeated the two odd fellows that ran it. There were even trips to Castelia, Virbank, Black City and anywhere else that a friend of Nanu's seemed to recommend. The trip became a nice change up. Undella and Humilau almost had you both feeing as if you were back home. Though, Nanu definitely preferred the comfort of your hotel to anything else. Relaxing in with you was nicer than any offerings of this region. Ultimately, Nanu is glad he took the trip and you both had a fun experience together.
♠️Grimsley❤️
♤ Marriage… Grimsley loathed the idea a bit. Perhaps it was the nature of his collapsing family that he grew up in that turned him away, or how badly it meshed with his lifestyle. He was not afraid to say that he slept around with little interest in proper relationships. Marriage seemed like a thing that would never intercept his path. Besides, that gamble of being in the fifty-seven percent of people that did not divorce… He felt his luck might run out there. Well, he had felt that way. Grimsley had been quite certain of that for a long while. But, he went broke. His thrill seeking behaviour had finally done something that he could not recover from easily. Then, you showed up. For once in his entire life, marriage had entered his mind as a desired thing. The scariest gamble of his life. Grimsley truly felt strange.
♡ Shauntal had come to him as he sat in deep thought within his Elite Four chamber. She had started laughing at how plain it was. Stop thinking of it as gambling… The advice led him to finding himself on one knee across from you in an isolated area of a casino. A brilliant ring was held out to you. “… Will you marry a guy like me?” he asked, feeling the hesitance eat at him. Your reply was to eagerly put on the ring and embrace him. A smug feeling filled the gaps left by his uncertainty.
◇ A wedding ceremony was fine to him, or you both could just go through the legal channels. Though, a ceremony will likely be held in a far too expensive venue within Black City. The other Elite Four members attend alongside Alder. A strange older man also shows up and seems bewildered to see Grimsley as a groom. The event has a classy, high air feeling to it somehow, yet there is some strange undertone. The ceremony is admittedly quick – The dark-type specialist was not one for lingering on traditions. The kiss between you both left you breathless. His piercing eyes gazed at you, much like his Liepard when she was ready to pounce. The reception consisted of multiple people amazed that he actually got married, and many congratulations. The older man scratched the back of his head and tried to figure out what had changed in Grimsley. You could not help but feel flustered when he said one word. Your name. The day quickly became one of his favourites. Marriage did not seem so awful now.
♧ Taking time off for a honeymoon felt next to impossible, and he struggled to think of where to go. Being married honestly had changed little in your lives but legal things, yet he felt strange when he thought about you being his spouse. The racing feeling in his chest could only be compared when he was a card away from twenty-one in blackjack. A getaway… But to where? Unova was already quite a tourist spot. He considered Alola but felt it too relaxed for his tastes. Caitlin had suggested Sinnoh, but he wondered what was there of intrigue. Shauntal recommended Kalos, and he felt more inclined. Marshal said that he should just keep focusing on his training. Grimsley opted for Kalos. It was a romantic region, after all.
♤ Lumiose was an exciting city that Grimsley could only think to compare to Castelia... Though, the metro in Kalos left much to be desired when compared to Unova's system. The city did have a romantic allure, and the gambler certainly enjoyed all the time spent with you inside the hotel room. The room was big enough to count as an apartment in some areas of Castelia. Yet, you both wandered the streets of the city, enjoying the many things offered. Food was delicious, and he certainly enjoyed the battle system in place. You could only watch as he got his thrills filled in there. The clothing was beautiful and much to his style. Though, you found yourself being gifted a nice outfit. At some point, you both had ventured out of the city and into Parfum Palace. Grimsley felt engaged by the beauty. Yet, even as he enjoyed everything with you, part of him craved the certain seediness found within areas of Unova. Ultimately, the trip really is a honeymoon with most of the time spent in your hotel room with Grimsely, but there are some vacation moments mixed in.

Can I tell you about the very queer game I made this Pride?
In A World That Hates and Fears You, Living Becomes an Act of Rebellion.
Exceptionals is a game inspired by X-Men about and for the spaces and communities marginalized peoples make for themselves. Play as a Geno, one of little less than 0.5% percent of the population that has gone through a mysterious process called Claremont-Simonson mutation, as you try to navigate a world that won’t make room for you. Exceptionals is a game about what the mutant metaphor means to you and the different lenses through which we view it. Punch back and build something of worth together in this narrative tag-driven tabletop role playing game. 🧬Features Open-Ended Character Creation🧬 Mix and Match between (23) open-ended but guided protocols. Answer questions to create high concept and unique super powered characters where the only real limit is your imagination. Get invested in who you make as a whole person, and not just a set of powers. Build a Community 🧬Create a living and dynamic community space full of colorful characters. 🧬 Grow your base as an anchor for other geno and help fill it with the resources they and you need. Understand how your actions effect others and gain trust through the bonds mechanic. It’s a game where you get stronger by growing your community and heal by being part of it.
🧬Comic Book Storytelling 🧬 Play as a creative team of writers and editors working to tell the best version of the story you can over time and storyline-based experience to model changes of the status quo and creative direction. Enjoy panel based action pacing and the ability of characters of all power levels to coexist and carry the same amount of story weight.
🧬Not Pain Tourism 🧬 While Exceptionals offers a number of places to push back, we understand and recognize that the most important part of a punching bag is that you choose to hit it, even if it’s not at all. We recognize not everyone gets to set the issues that the mutant metaphor is used to talk about down when they leave the table and offer many ways to tell stories outside of a lens defined by pain. We also put an emphasis and mechanical weight on the importance of joy and celebration. 📚You can buy the Core Book here:📚 https://bramblewolfgames.itch.io/exceptionals 📚You can buy the Expansions here:📚 https://bramblewolfgames.itch.io/exceptionals-expansion-bundle 📚You can buy the bundle with everything here:📚 https://bramblewolfgames.itch.io/exceptionals-expansion-bundle I didn’t go out with the intent of making this a very queer game. Not explicitly. I started making games because I got frustrated waiting to feel seen or acknowledged. Another game got me mad about using my peoples stories to be transphobic, to be racist, to be ableist. Nevermind my people have more than two genders traditionally and faced a genocide. That was too much for me. I said this was enough and the quite indignities I suffered to feel included wasn’t worth it. I could do better myself. So I set out to make a superhero game. I hated just about every comic book game on the market. It never seemed to capture what I did like about big hero comics with high concept storytelling and powers and couldn’t care less on a mechanical or narrative level about who this person was outside the mask. More focused on bashing action figures together and golden age pastiche that doesn’t really reflect the decades of character and genre developments that have happened since then. I later found games that do it better, but I was dissatisfied... I chose x-men for the homies. I’ve always been an x-men fan. A lot of people my age were. My first action figure was one of rogue I got at a garage sale, where she then went on to fight many a play-dough monster. But for many of us it was the first place we were allowed to be heroes. There are no natives on the 90′s x-men team. But I had uncles and older kids all too eager to tell me about Forge and Warpath (I hate that name) and my favorite Dani Moonstar (I ain’t the biggest fan of that name either, but she’s the closest thing mainstream hero comics have to a good NDN).
After that, things just kinda flowed from there. The X-men have such a focus on community. It’s “comics greatest soap opera”. It can be messy, complicated, beautiful and life-affirming all at the same time. They take the time to play basketball, go to the mall, and have birthday parties as they grow. Two of my favorite x-men comics aren’t about fighting at all. One is framed around a sleepover some students have, and another is about a wedding and framed around everyone filming their part of the wedding tape.
So I started thinking about the communities I’ve been a part of. A big core of the game is informed by my time and the people I met in these sort of spaces. As a native, as a queer person, as a disabled person I’ve been both someone who needed them and someone who gave back.
Which suited x-men just fine. X-men has cared about that sort of thing from about X-men #3 with the first appearance of The Blob, establishing it’s tone of sympathy and mutants as a minority analog.
I just kept going and I didn’t stop. And apparently I did a good job. Someone out there has been using my game as game-therapy and community outreach in a gender health center out in California. I got a lot of kind words for the game too (which is good, because I spent 3 years on it).

It’s interesting that we see only ONE (Not counting Bakugo) other person in the series whose body moved on their own and that was Mina of all people. What do you think could work as a Mina-Centric story with a deeper dive in her philosophy and personal experience.
So it depends on what you are talking about. I don't think Mina is that deep of a character to explore, at least with what we have. I could suggest stories about her or insert new ideas for her, but they'd be very basic or wouldn't have as much basis in her character. I can talk about those if you want, since I do think they are interesting. For the sake of this though, this is more what I think could be an interesting angle for her while still fitting with her story and character.
I think it'd be an interesting story to focus on Mina's perspective on heroism. Namely, how simplistic it can be. We're told that Mina has the "perfect personality to be a hero". That is such an interesting perspective to have on a person, both on themselves and how other people see them. And by all accounts, they are right. Mina is great socially, has a powerful Quirk, and a natural heroic spirit. I could see her being like Bakugou growing up, being told by everyone how great of a hero she could be, but more well adjusted. This could paint a lot of perception about herself and what she has to do as a hero. None of what she does is an act or anything, but it can set a lot of expectations for herself and who she is supposed to be. But Mina can do it, right? Being a hero comes so easy to her.
However, her problem comes in how simplistically she sees heroism. She sees heroism as what she's been told and shown: fight villains, show up on tv, and get your own lunch box. So when she's faced with the actual weight of the situation, she freezes. Mina has the makings of a hero and the will to act on her heroic instincts, but she doesn't have the kind of courage to see it through and truly face what the world has to offer. It's like how people go into war not fully realizing just how harrowing and straining it can be on a person. So part of her story would be her wanting to live up to her ideal of a hero. Not what people say a hero is or the hero people want her to be, but the hero she knows she can be. It'd be about her facing down some of the biggest threats to the world and choosing to fight. In doing so, she can find the kind of person she wants to be and the kind of hero she wants to become.
To me, this would add a lot of context to her actions in the manga, especially involving Gigantomachia, and offer a unique perspective on what's happening with the changing hero world. She can act as the kind of everyman to whom people see heroes. That something like Mina's simple sentiment is coming from a good place, it can't stand up to the more nuanced perspective needed to deal with the villains. And I think it could add a lot of dynamics to certain characters. She could parallel Bakugou, as they are both people who have a lot of natural talent to be heroes, but two very different personalities and perspectives on it. She could reflect Izuku on how they both have an inclination to help people, but two different backgrounds and perspectives. It could work with Uraraka, as Mina's own simplistic view on people and romance could clash with her own growing feelings. It would work well with Kirishima's arc as well, with both of them trying to find courage and being inspired by one another.

🌨How to write in POV's?🌨
Choosing the perspective from which to tell your story is one of the most crucial decisions you’ll make as an author. Opting for multiple points of view (PoVs) can offer depth, diversity, and a panoramic view of the narrative that can captivate readers. Juggling multiple PoVs requires a deft hand and a clear plan. In this post, we’ll explore some effective strategies for writing a novel using multiple perspectives.
What is a point of view?
Point of view serves as the narrative’s eyes and ears—the viewpoint from which readers engage with your story. It can range from the intimate “I” of the first person, the rarely used direct address of the second person, to the more distanced and flexible third person (which can be limited to one character’s perspective or be omniscient, seeing into the minds of all characters).
Incorporating multiple PoVs means weaving a narrative through the lives and experiences of two or more characters, often alternating between their perspectives with each new chapter or section, which can enrich the story with complexity.
Choose your characters wisely
When writing a multi-PoV novel, it’s important to pick your characters carefully. Make sure that each one has a unique voice and their own way of seeing things. Each character should add something special to the story that no one else can. Also, think about how each character will change over time and how their stories connect. This will help your readers get to know your characters better and keep the plot interesting.
Map out your story structure
Planning your story’s framework is a crucial step in a multi-PoV novel. Start by outlining the individual plot lines for each character, making sure they fit well together and are interesting on their own. Decide how much time to spend on each character and keep it balanced to keep the reader engaged. Also, think about the order you introduce each character’s PoV, as this will affect how the story feels and builds suspense. Good planning will help you weave together the different viewpoints into a coherent and interesting narrative.
Create clear transitions
Clear transitions are key to a smooth reading experience in a multi-PoV novel. They guide the reader seamlessly from one character’s perspective to another, without confusion. Using character names or other distinct markers in chapter headings can help signal a shift in PoV. Consistency in these transitions is vital; once you establish a pattern, stick to it throughout the story. This consistency helps the reader quickly adapt to changes in perspective and maintains the flow of your narrative, ensuring each transition contributes to the depth and progression of your story.
Deepen characterisation through PoV
Utilising multiple points of view can deepen characterisation by allowing readers inside the minds and motivations of various characters. To maximise the impact on the overall story, ensure that each PoV shift adds new information, advances the plot, or reveals key character dynamics, helping to create a tapestry of interconnected stories and themes. By presenting internal thoughts and diverse perspectives on events, each PoV can offer a unique insight into the narrative, building a richer, more textured story.
Ensure each PoV advances the plot
In a multi-PoV novel, it’s essential that each point of view contributes meaningfully to the forward momentum of the plot. Avoid filling pages with scenes that do not serve the story’s progression or reveal significant information. Link the characters’ stories through shared events, underlying themes, or relationships. This approach ensures that every narrative perspective not only enhances the depth of your characters but also keeps the reader engaged with a plot that is continuously moving and developing through each character’s eyes.

I think you make a good point about how weird it is that Sam didn't mentor Jack about his similar experience of being soulless, but don't you think Cas should have too?
Yes. That was actually one of my first metas here back in 2022: "Cas should've taken the lead on the soullessness situation." Note: My views have evolved somewhat, especially with what is clearly a partnership where Dean is knowingly taking Jack to mentor his crisis and Cas is taking Sam to mentor his crisis, but I still agree with a lot of it.
Particularly this:
Cas spent billions of years as a soulless being. Surely hearing about Cas’s journey throughout that, and hearing about Cas struggling with doing the right thing, regardless of his soul status, would have soothed Jack’s anxiety. He could’ve brought a friendly angel like Anael to see Jack and discussed how souls aren’t the end-all, be-all of existing. Discussed how difficult it is to stay in control of angelic powers and to be careful and tender with the concept of human morality. Dean’s move to visit Donatello was fine and all, but Donny has no grace. Jack is soulless, but he’s not graceless.
Only recently, though, have I really keyed into how Sam tends to default to generic, hand-wavey explanations and tends to avoid personal details, especially in his mentoring and parenting style. Sam's non-reciprocal communication style is a much newer insight for me, one that I started turning over in my brain when I rewatched Tombstone with Jack in mind. Once I saw it, I seemed to keep seeing it. Sam tends to keep a distance, which can sometimes make his heart-to-hearts come off as "therapizing" rather than personal.
While Sam and Dean both manifest shame and perfectionism in different ways, I think Sam's inability to look at his mistakes is definitely tied to his perfectionism. And in 14x19, we see this again: Sam's line about how Dean could see that Jack was a "lost cause from the beginning," rather than breaking down his own specific actions with regards to Jack's condition are, I think, part of the overall trend.
///
But yeah, just as Sam's soullessness positioned him to be a unique sounding board for Jack, so too did Cas's "inherent" soullessness (And Anael's, for that matter. Why couldn't we have more Anael in the bunker why? *cries*)
They didn't *have* to go to Donatello for advice about souls, but I can understand how the "soullessness" periods of their lives are tied up with a lot of painful memories, too. And those are hard as Hell to face.(And I love Donny, you guys know I love Donny, but even he tried to kill them when he was corrupted through the tablet, in part due to his soullessness. To take his word as proof of wellbeing isn't just shortsighted, it's denial in action.)
But on the whole, I think all of TFW has sufficient experience with "losing themselves" and/or "losing their family members," especially in the pursuit of heroics... They could have offered a better united front and guidance on this issue.
(Note: I give Mary a half-pass about Jack though, maybe, because as I said, I don't think Mary had any idea what the Hell was going on with Jack in season 14. So she'd have had no reason to share her painful experience of becoming NBK!Mary with him. She tries to offer support in basic ways, though: “We'll help you. We're family. We'll support you. That's what we do." etc)
Conjecture: I suspect that, in typical TFW-fashion, a lot of Jack-resurrection and Jack-eating-Michael details were purposefully hidden from Mary so as to spare her the worry/burden. (The way Dean hid the Ma'lak box plan from Cas and Jack, or how Cas hid the Empty deal from Dean and Sam.)
Something something you want peace for your loved ones, not pain. But sparing an initial pain sometimes makes things worse later. Sigh. It's so hard to find the line! :(
But as a personal aside// it IS a little crunchy/interesting seeing crucial information (potentially) kept from Mary, because Mary is a child-raised soldier-hunter who also prefers to solve things on her own, or hide and evade the truth until shit has already hit the fan. The taste of our own medicine: always bitter.
#sorry what was the question#i think i answered it#i hope i did#i'm getting a LOT of jack and season 14/15 questions today what are we EATING#mary stuff#sam stuff#cas stuff

The creative world of neurodiversity
In recent years, the concept of neurodiversity has gained significant attention, reshaping how we perceive neurological differences such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other cognitive variations. Far from being deficits, these differences can be powerful sources of creativity and innovation. This blog entry delves into the creative potentials within the neurodiverse community, exploring how these unique perspectives enrich our world. We invite readers to engage in a vibrant discussion about the impacts and contributions of neurodiversity to creativity.
Understanding Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity refers to the idea that variations in the human brain regarding sociability, learning, attention, mood, and other mental functions are normal and should be recognized and respected. This concept challenges the traditional view of neurological differences as disorders that need to be cured or fixed. Instead, neurodiversity promotes the acceptance of all cognitive differences as part of the natural spectrum of human diversity (Armstrong, 2010).
Creativity and Neurodiversity
Neurodiverse individuals often exhibit exceptional creativity. For instance, people with autism might display remarkable skills in areas such as art, music, and mathematics. Temple Grandin, a renowned scientist and autism advocate, attributes her success in animal science to her ability to think in pictures, a trait common among many autistic individuals (Grandin, 2006). Similarly, individuals with ADHD might excel in creative fields due to their ability to think divergently and generate a multitude of ideas quickly (Eisenberg & Strikwerda-Brown, 2011).
The Role of Different Perspectives
Neurodiverse individuals often approach problems from unique angles, offering fresh perspectives that can lead to innovative solutions. For example, historical figures like Albert Einstein, who showed signs of dyslexia and ADHD, revolutionized physics with their unconventional thinking patterns. Such diverse cognitive styles can be invaluable in collaborative environments, fostering a culture of creativity and out-of-the-box thinking (West, 2014).
Challenges and Support
While the creative potential of neurodiverse individuals is immense, they often face significant challenges. Society's misunderstanding and stigmatization of neurological differences can hinder the ability of these individuals to express their talents fully. Providing support through inclusive education, workplace accommodations, and social acceptance is crucial for unlocking their creative potential (Singer, 2017).
Inclusive Practices in Education and Workplaces
Inclusive practices in education and workplaces can make a significant difference. Schools that implement flexible teaching methods and workplaces that offer tailored support and accommodations can help neurodiverse individuals thrive. For instance, project-based learning and the use of technology can cater to different learning styles, while flexible work hours and quiet workspaces can enhance productivity and creativity (Armstrong, 2010).
The Future of Neurodiversity and Creativity
The future of neurodiversity is promising. As awareness and acceptance grow, we are likely to see a greater appreciation for the contributions of neurodiverse individuals in various fields. Encouraging diversity in thought and experience not only enriches our culture but also drives innovation and progress.
Try reflecting on these questions ”How has neurodiversity impacted your life or the lives of those around you?” “ What steps can society take to better support and celebrate neurodiverse individuals?” And feel free to leave your comments below with your experiences and opinions in order to engage with others in this enlightening discussion, on the creative world of neurodiversity!

I'm constantly baffled how many writers seem to overlook and mischaracterize Jason when he has arguably the most potential of all the Batkids, or at least the Robins! Like, so much can be built upon wrt his life as an impoverished youth and how that informs his perception of vigilantism, law enforcement, drug abuse, etc. Hell, his resurrection itself is something he had over the rest of the Batfamily for the longest time, before everyone else got a take a turn and it became so overused that Jason's own trauma became a footnote. Alas, most people at DC just treat him as the "Angsty Bad Boy™️" who doesn't play nice with the other kids. He's so wasted, Jason Todd deserves better.
I've always felt that if you're going to try and write a finite narrative out of Jason's story (as opposed to comics) then at some point he should quit vigilantism. His entire adult life has been solely about that and, as someone who for a long time was most famous for dying, he should get the opportunity to live, especially for himself. BUT, so long as he remains a vigilante, he offers a really interesting perspective on vigilantism that you don't really see anywhere else.
Jason, like some of the people I feel have the most reason to be in this life in Batman media (such as Bruce and Dick), has experience being a victim of criminal behavior, yes, but he also has the experience of being on the other side of the window. He knows the criminal element intimately, and from a young age. His father was a low-level criminal, it got him sent to jail and eventually murdered while in jail; Jason grew up in a low-income neighborhood that has been by and large overlooked by Gotham and that allows criminal behavior to breed there to the point where the name Crime Alley no longer refers to a singular event (the murders of the Waynes) but all the other issues there; Jason himself has committed criminal acts when weighing the option between obeying the law and ensuring his own survival. He has a different perspective on criminality and law enforcement and outside enforcement of legal codes than anyone in his life, because he's lived on both sides of the lines and they've both had profound effects on him and should shape how he views the world differently than other people he knows.
Jason's vigilantism, and honestly even how he deals with stuff during his crime lord era, should be motivated by at once knowing that issues don't pop up out of nowhere and that even criminals have interiority, but also a deeper understanding than most as to how the actions of criminals affects not just innocent bystanders but innocents in their own lives. It's a unique perspective that not only enriches Jason as a character but can also provide some pretty thought-provoking conversation about vigilantism and Batman's role in the world and even the concept of extra-legal justice we find in most superhero comics in general that DC could honestly use.
Like yeah, ok, I did find Stephen's monologue about his role as a doctor being that of a healer at the end of the General Strange arc in this year's Doctor Strange hokey, but the way a superhero's personal life informs their actions as a hero is an interesting concept that only gets shallow explorations most of the time, and Batman media could really use it in more depth given how shallow people's understanding of Batman is (Batman's a capitalist Batman's a fascist Batman beats up the mentally ill Batman victimizes the poor, dear God shut up).
And when it comes to Jason's death, it is pretty obvious that, when it comes to the Batfam, DC is trying to recapture that feeling that came with A Death in the Family every time they kill a character off, to try and tap into what made Jason's death such a big thing. But the problem is that they fundamentally do not understand why Jason's death was so big.
For one, and the most shallow reason for it, Jason's death wasn't just death. At the tail end of a series of difficult issues for him, like finding out his dad was murdered in prison and Bruce lied about it, to the debacle with Felipe Garzonas, to Bruce benching him as Robin (which, given that Dick being benched ended with him no longer being Robin and leaving Wayne Manor, it's reasonable to infer that a formerly homeless kid who experienced a significant amount of trauma due to that homelessness would start to worry that no Robin=no longer being able to live with Bruce and having to live on the streets again), Jason ends up trying to find his mother. And when he finds her, this adult woman, who he should be able to trust, if only because she's a grown woman and he's fifteen, deliberately leads him into a trap with someone he is deeply aware is dangerous, points a gun at his head, and tells him that what's about to happen is his fault while he tries and fails to fight his way out of what he knows is going to be a really bad set of minutes. Honestly, more people need to read ADitF, because the sequence of events is a lot more horrifying than pop culture remembers it. Jason is already beaten into the ground by Joker's henchmen before the Joker gets started on him (while Sheila stands back and watches, God) and by the time it's done, half of Joker's suit is colored red instead of purple to represent blood and everyone in that warehouse thinks that Jason is already dead. And then he gets blown up. Jason's death resonated so much not just because of the fact that it happened, and that Bruce felt upset about it, but also because what happened to him was horrifyingly brutal and to date remains one of the truly most sadistic things the Joker has ever done.
For two, Jason's death had an impact because it was meant to stick. Unlike Bruce getting lost in time or Damian getting stabbed, where it was pretty clear that the characters were not going to stay dead, and then by the time you get to Dick and whoever else has died recently, where the audience (and the characters) have no reason to believe that this will be permanent, Jason's death was meant to be the end of the story. Due to Starlin's hatred of Jason as a character (which is weird) and DC in general wanting to move away from kid sidekicks at the time, Jason was supposed to die and then stay dead forever; there's a reason why the saying was "nobody stays dead in comics except for Jason Todd, Bucky Barnes, and Uncle Ben", because he was meant to, you know, stay dead. It hits because the audience itself, along with Bruce and Dick and Alfred and Barbara and everyone else in Jason and Robin's life, thought that this was the last we would see of Jason Todd alive and that he would never come back ever again. It's also why his resurrection packs so much more of a punch than anyone else's either, both in universe and out of universe.
For three, Jason's death was greatly helped by the meta-narrative in a way that nobody else's has been. Because, the eighties was a period of a lot of change for DC, and especially for Batman due to the popularity of The Killing Joke (which wasn't even supposed to be canon, yet by the time Jason died Barbara was already confirmed in canon to be paralyzed and therefore have the events of that book take place) and especially The Dark Knight Returns. Which means that the eighties was when people started writing darker Batman stories, and they kept going from there, and the characterization got darker along with it (seriously, read something from the early eighties and then something from, like, the 2010s, the difference is insane) as Batman slowly just because a darker and more sullen character. And because that change coincided with Jason dying, and there was an initial attempt to push a sort of "Jason's murder is turning Bruce into a crazy person" message to really show audiences how badly Bruce was dealing with the situation, it creates this sort of in-universe progression where Jason's murder fundamentally altered Bruce in a way that has, so far, proven utterly irreversible.
It's not just that Bruce's son was murdered and that he's had to deal with the grief and trauma of that loss, it's that the grief and trauma of that lost basically completely shattered Bruce and he is never going to be able to put himself back together again. He is never going to return to who he was before Jason died even though the initial hurt has literally been reversed because Jason was resurrected and subsequently re-entered his life. Jason's death was so calamitous, so monumentally awful, that it changed who Bruce was as a person in a way that can never be undone or reversed, and most of the people in his life these days don't even know what Bruce was like before, while the people who do know just have to live with the fact that Bruce as he was then is as dead as Jason was (this fic by @damianbugs really gets to the unique tragedy of the whole thing so go read that). None of the other Batfam deaths have that, not even Stephanie's, which was also meant to be permanent before it got retconned, and so they don't hit as hard because they not only don't have much impact on the audience, they don't even have much impact on Bruce as a character, certainly not anywhere near that Jason's did in both intensity and longlasting effect.
The problem is that DC didn't really didn't expect Under the Red Hood to be as popular as it was, so they kept Jason around without really knowing what to do with him or having any plan for him, which is a choice we're still feeling the consequences of today in that they both still don't really know what to do with him and really resent him for it, along with his longterm popularity in all of his iterations. And fandom itself likes to just hew to tropes with no basis in canon whatsoever based on the shallowest understanding of all characters, including Jason, so that's not even helping matters much, and why I stick to my own bubble.
#personal#answered#anonymous#jason todd#wow this got long#unfortunately you got me talking about the impact of jason's death#which if you look at my ao3 you'll know is something that really gets me raring to go

❝ DREAM SCHOOL ❞
SUNDAY — JULY 15 — 4:28PM
“IS REDWOOD ACADEMY YOUR DREAM SCHOOL?”
Bentley, Bruce, Dick, Jason, and Asten were huddled around the kitchen island not two hours after the school was mentioned, Bentley’s laptop sitting open on the countertop to the Redwood Academy website. They’d been tearing apart the webpage for at least an hour now, picking out every detail they could find, and had just stumbled upon an so called introductory video that Dick insisted they play.
Sunny drone shots of the (very nice) campus came and went from the screen for a few moments, with soft but happy music playing over top, and faded to a red-haired lady in a black pencil dress walking down the campus sidewalks. She had a nearly infectious smile on her face, and all the colors around her, like the sky and the grass, were bright and happy. “I’m headmistress Donna McCall, and I’m thrilled you’ve stopped by our website!” She chided.
“Oh, yeah. Thrilled,” Jason muttered. (He’d been skeptical and quiet the whole time Bentley had been telling them about the school. Most people would think he was concerned, but Bentley thought that, maybe, just maybe, Jason didn’t want them to leave.)
(He had been at the Manor a lot more than he used to. Like, literally almost every day. For a while.)
The video cut back to aerial videos of the campus. Redwood Academy was massive, comprised of what looked like over a dozen buildings that were built with an almost castle-like architecture. Bentley had seen places like Wayne Manor and Drake Manor and Whittaker Estate, but not even those places compared to the school. “Welcome to Redwood Academy; A year-round boarding school that offers a high-end education to metahumans all the way from grades pre-k-through-twelfth — without the stress, anxiety, or bullying that comes along with being a metahuman in other schooling institutions.”
The video cut to a shot of several perfectly manicured soccer fields, with what looked like tennis fields in the background. (Or maybe not tennis. Bentley didn’t know much about sports.) “The Redwood Academy Campus covers over one thousand acres of Manhattan, New York City, with a view of the water and a clear sightline to the coasts of New Jersey.”
Bentley blinked as it cut to another very bright video of the redhead woman, who was now walking in front of one of the big castle-like buildings with her blinding smile and excited as ever persona. (Didn’t Vera say she was friends with this woman’s niece or something?) “Redwood Academy offers over two-hundred-fifty interactive, unique, in-classroom courses that can be chosen to fit your child’s interests, including over thirty unique fine arts classes. With well over two hundred teachers and professors working here at Redwood, over two-thirds of them have a PhD in their field and are solely dedicated to watching and helping your children excel.”
“That’s a lot of teachers. This place seems huge,” Dick commented, leaning closer to the computer.
Bentley nodded in response. “It looks huge.”
“Here at Redwood, we want your children to have the fullest school experience they can have, without the negativity that comes with being different,” The video switched to the smiling woman walking on a perfectly pampered football field. “That’s why we offer twenty different team sports, from the commonly-known-and-loved football, to more personable sports like competitive gymnastics and dancing. Each sport offered here at Redwood has its own fully trained coach that will journey through the training seasons with your students and help them to build a family within their teams. Whether they’ve been playing their whole lives or are just starting out, our lovely sports staff are wholly committed to nurturing your child’s mental growth and physical development, while still maintaining the challenging and rewarding nature of sports.”
The scene changed to her in a massive library. The walls and shelves were all a deep wood, with thousands of multicolored books lined on the shelves. There were also massive chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. “Are sports not your child’s favorite? That’s alright! We offer other extracurriculars and clubs as well, ranging from book clubs, mathletes, and scholastic decathlon, to theatre and music clubs, ran by the students and staff alike.”
Bentley scrunched his face up. What the heck was a mathlete?
The shot changed to the woman walking through beautifully wainscotted hallways. “Here at Redwood, your child’s well-being is our first priority. That’s why we have twenty-four hour campus security all seven days of the week, and a fully stocked medical staff prepared to treat everything from a common cold to broken bones. Three square meals a day are served here in our high-end cafeteria, and if your child has allergies or needs special food accommodations, our cooks here will happily supply them with various delicious and nutritious options. There are twelve on-campus counselors who can help to guide your child through life, emotions, and relationships as a metahuman, and we perform routine intruder, fire, and severe weather drills twice a year every year to prepare your child to keep calm and stay safe in emergency situations.”
Asten breathed in and out. “She is way too happy about school. Like, why is she smiling like that?”
“Undoubtedly, one of the toughest parts of school for your youngsters is making friends and finding their built-in-family. That’s why our campus offers apartment-style dormitories that house eight students each,” The video cut to a pan of what looked like a living room, with two doors on the left and two doors on the right. “If your student is eleven or older, they will share a bedroom with one roommate, which you can choose when you register! Don’t know anybody here? Fill out a survey at registration and we’ll choose a roommate for them based on age and personality. And as always, to prevent stress, roommates can always be changed once the school year starts. if your child needs specific sleeping accommodations, whether that be due to medical conditions, their metahuman powers, or something else, we will happily accommodate them no matter the circumstance.”
Bentley hummed. He guessed he pretty much had a built in roommate with Asten.
“Each bedroom has its own, full en-suite bathroom to prevent sickness or undue illness from spreading,” The camera showed a bedroom with a set of bunk-beds, two wardrobes, and two desks. “Your student will share a small living and commons area with three other pairs of roommates, who will also be paired with your child based on age range and personality. If your child is ten or younger, they will stay in a separate building with qualified caretakers, individual bedrooms, and a large community bathroom.”
The scene cut to the redhead woman sitting at a massive wooden desk. “Our mission here at Redwood Academy is to equip metahuman children and young adults to usher in the future they wish to achieve, and provide them the education and support they need that may not be provided by typical school systems. Many staff members, including myself, are here year-round for students who may not want or can’t afford to return home for times like holidays or summer break.”
She woman leaned forward slightly, propping an elbow on the desk with a smile and sparkle of her green eyes. “We never want to deny a child an opportunity at a great school and life experience. That’s why, if you can’t afford tuition, Redwood Academy has over four dozen local and international sponsors that would be more than happy to sponsor your child year by year, for as long as you need. Make sure to fill out the corresponding tuition form at registration and we’ll get applications out for your child as soon as possible. All registration forms for this school year must be submitted, either online or in person, before July twentieth to enroll your student this year. You can find registration forms at the bottom of our website.”
She smiled brightly, contagiously.
“If you have any further questions, you can email or call us at the email and number listed on the website. If you wish to request a campus tour, meet a few teachers, or speak to graduates, please visit the explore our campuslink at the bottom of our website. I’m headmistress Donna McCall, Thank you so much for choosing Redwood.”
And the video faded to black.
“Well, I’m sold. NYC here I come,” Asten stated, shoving his hands in his hoodie pockets. “When do we leave?”
Jason scoffed, glancing over at him. “Really? Just like that?”
Asten stared, deadpanned. “You’re asking me if I’d rather be in Gotham or Manhattan.”
Bruce’s hand found Bentley’s back and rubbed it a little. “What’re you thinking, chum?”
Bentley shrugged. “I don’t know. I mean, it sounds pretty cool. And it would be nice to go somewhere else for a while.”
“I think that would be great for you two! Meet new people, try new things. It’s perfect for your first year of high school,” Dick explained, reaching over in both directions and ruffling both Bentley and Asten’s hair. Bentley chuckled, but Asten scoffed and tried to push him off.
“I’m sixteen and a freshman. Isn’t that kind of embarrassing?” Asten questioned.
“Not unless you make it embarrassing,” Jason replied. “If you don’t make a big deal of it, no one will care.”
“And you’ll get to know other kids with superpowers! I think it sounds great,” Dick said with a smile, his arm finding its way around Bentley’s shoulders.
“I think you’re more excited than they are,” Jason shot back, smirking at him.
Bruce hummed, and everyone turned to look at him. He was still looking at the computer with a bunch of tabs pulled up.
“All of the resources and links point to it being an actual institution. There have been a bunch of graduates over the past few years. But here’s the important question,”
Both Asten and Bentley peered over at him.
“If this is the route we’re going, are you actually prepared to be in Manhattan alone? That’s over a two and a half hour drive from Gotham,”
“Yes,” Was Asten’s immediate answer.
Bentley glanced down at his socked feet. He hadn’t really been alone alone since, well, his father, he guessed. But that still hadn’t been alone. He supposed he was alone when he was missing, too, but he had a sneaking suspicion that didn’t count.
He really hadn’t been without an adult before. Or at least a family member.
Was he ready to do that for a whole school year?
Bentley glanced up, and cleared his throat when he realized all eyes were on him.
“I mean…” He started, blinking at the computer screen that had statistics about the school on it. “I’m almost fourteen. With Asten there I should be fine.”
Bruce nodded. “But is it something you want to do? Because we can get you into a school closer, if public is what you want.”
Bentley didn’t speak for a moment.
“Why don’t we do this,” Bruce suggested, closing the tabs on the laptop. “I’ll run some threat tests on the school and its staff on the Batcomputer. If it comes back green, and you decide it’s really something worth looking into, then we can talk about maybe going down for a campus tour.”
“Registration has to be done within the next five days,” Asten pointed out.
Bruce shrugged. “I guess we better hurry, then. I’ll be in the cave.”
Bruce moved from behind the kitchen island, and Bentley breathed in and out, looking at the posh dark green and gold decorated website.
Was leaving for Manhattan really what he wanted to do?
—
SUNDAY — JULY 15 — 8:13PM
“Manhattan? Seriously? That’s so cool,” Nico exclaimed from the other end of Bentley’s phone. “I’d love to go to Manhattan.”
Bentley and Asten were both against the headboard of Asten’s bed, playing some hardcore survival Minecraft on his PlayStation. (Aka the only game ever that Bentley was actually sort of okay at.) All of the lights were cut off besides the strip of LEDs that were glowing blue where the ceiling met the walls.
Bentley’s phone was propped up near their feet by a pillow, and Nico’s face was on it. He was on his bed, too, and judging by the reflection in his eyes and funny faces he kept making, he seemed to be watching tv.
He was fourteen, and if he were in Gotham, would probably be taller than Bentley and maybe even Damian by now. He’d gotten a haircut to make his hair go upwards instead of downwards, and was going into his freshman year of homeschooling. He also had something no one else had.
A girlfriend.
Which Bentley and Asten didn’t know much about, if they were honest. All Bentley knew was that her name was Delainey. That was literally it. He hadn’t even seen pictures of her.
“Yeah. We aren’t sure if we’re going yet or not,” Bentley replied, placing a few blocks on the game. (Asten was so much faster than him.)
“He means he isn’t sure if he’s going. I’m getting myself out of Gotham,” Asten butted in. Nico snickered at him.
“Yeah. Honestly, Gothams kind of sad,”
Bentley snickered, and Asten nodded. “You’re not wrong.”
“Oh, guess what? Barry taught me how to phase through stuff the other day. Then he got all jealous because it took him way longer than me to get the hang of it,” Nico explained proudly, smiling down at the camera momentarily. “And I- oh, Lainey’s calling me. Gotta go. Talk to you later!”
Before Asten or Bentley could respond, Nico hung up.
Asten shook his head. “He’s obsessed with her.”
“He is,” Bentley agreed. He would by lying if he said he didn’t find it strange that Nico already had a girlfriend. He was only one year older than Bentley, after all. But then again, Bentley was pretty new to all this normal life stuff anyways. Do all boys his age have girlfriends?
Clearly Asten didn’t, and Damian didn’t. Not even Duke or Tim or Jason or Dick did. (Okay, well, maybe Dick did. It wasn’t exactly official and all that, Bentley didn’t think, but the way he and Babs looked at each other was a little telling.)
He decided to ignore it. If he was supposed to, someone would tell him. Right? Yeah. Surely they would.
Not five minutes later, someone knocked on the door.
“Come in,” Asten called.
The door swung open, and the hallway light was blindingly bright in the dark room. The silhouette standing in the doorway was none other than Bruce, but Bentley hadn’t really expected anyone different — most of the Wayne’s didn’t knock.
“Hey,” He started, stepping inside, glancing at the screen on his entry. “I finished the scans on the Batcomputer.”
Both Asten and Bentley broke their gazes away from the game to look at him, instead. (He was still wearing the pajama pants, which Bentley thought was funny.)
“And?” Asten inquired.
Bruce took a few steps and sat down on the end of the bed. “And everything came back green. It has a very low threat level, almost nonexistent.”
Bentley sat up a little straighter, laying his controller to the side. That meant the school was safe?
“Let’s talk about if you actually want to go or not,” Bruce said, and Asten laid his controller down, too. “You’ll be in Manhattan for almost ten months, without any of us.”
“B, I’ve been in since we started talking about this,” Asten said with a soft smirk.
Bruce’s icy irises flicked to Bentley. “What about you?”
Bentley blinked.
Okay, so, yeah. Moving to New York City for an entire school year was a big decision for a kid who was pretty sure he had developed some kind of attachment issues to at least two thirds of the Wayne’s. And it was even bigger for a kid who’d never been out of Drew or Gotham, and still had panic attacks when a glass broke, and still didn’t know the fundamentals of life, like when he was supposed to have a girlfriend, but…
He kinda really wanted to.
Don’t get him wrong — he loved the Manor and his family, and leaving that for so long would probably be a little hard. But, the chance to have another attempt at making friends, being able to get out of the Manor, and Gotham all together, was pretty enticing. Plus it just sounded… Y’know. Fun, going off somewhere for high school with a bunch of other kids.
Bentley breathed in and out, and both Bruce and Asten were staring at him, awaiting his answer.
“It’ll be different, but… yeah. I think I want to go,”
Bruce smiled lightly, then nodded, pulling himself off the bed and moving for the door. “Alright. If that’s your answer, I’ll call the headmistress and get a tour set up, then.”
Bentley and Asten smiled, one a bit more sheepish than the other.
“Love you,” Bruce called behind him as he left.
“Love you,” They replied in unison.
The door closed, and the room was dark again, with LED lights and Minecraft on full display.
Bentley was basically moving to Manhattan. (What?)

Short Story: Different Stages of Awakenings
Narrator Point of View
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/46662813c8ab29f41499ad36d23c6bd7/2e0f4997d77bd049-9c/s1280x1920/a4088a757dc1d0f5fe448416e649c2a875472f9a.jpg)
It is always so fascinating to witness how differently each of them reacts the first time they wake up and they truly realize that their minds have been corrupted to the point that they’ve lost the ability to control their own will.
Most of them react in predictable ways, but not all. Interestingly enough, I've discovered that all of their initial reactions fall under a few select categories that include the classic stages of grief and loss.
Not surprisingly, the most popular reaction I see is Denial. For those who are not too familiar with the kink of mind control, they wake up with the firm belief that it couldn't possibly be real. Up to that moment, nothing in their lives prepared them to experience the utter loss of control my talents create in them. They simply cannot accept their new reality. After all, what self respecting young adult would believe that brainwashing or hypnosis can render them so helpless?
Their sense of self shrinks as they repeatedly deny the reality they see before them. Of course, that feeling stays with them for a while, but as with all my little playthings, it eventually fades and crumbles as the pleasure slowly corrupts them in a different way.
Another unsurprising reaction is Anger.
A completely normal emotion to experience when you awaken to the realization that you've been tricked into a servitude you didn't wish for. They resist their new reality with every fiber of their bodies even if they can't break free. They curse and threaten with the most colorful of languages, but it all falls flat as they keep being compelled to obey. There is a lot of pleasure to be milked out of that intense anger as I watch it fade until their fire is finally snuffed out by their own pleasure.
I must admit, that intense resistance renders their inevitable surrender taste so much sweeter.
Bargaining is also a fairly common reaction.
Usually, when they react in this way, it indicates a certain level of intelligence and understanding. They awaken to their new controlled reality and instead of letting their emotions take over, they calmly think things through and try to bargain their way out of their unwanted predicament. It is so entertaining to listen to what their minds come up with to try and escape their fate. The most popular offer I get is the promise to forget everything and not call the authorities on me if I would just let them leave.
I always chuckle when they do because even if they seem brighter than most, they still seem to forget that if I can take control of them so completely, I can also make them forget. Which is a much better guarantee than any promise they could give me.
One reaction I see a little less is Depression.
It is not that they accept their new situation, far from it in fact. They simply feel overwhelmed and they can’t hold back their tears when they realize how much they’ve lost. Of course, I make it my mission to show them what they’ve gained in exchange. I’ve rarely seen that emotion last for very long, especially when I take care to introduce them to the powerful pleasure they can experience under my care. Little by little, they all come to understand that as much as my control of their minds removes their will, it also enhances their pleasure to heights they couldn’t reach otherwise.
Eventually, they all reach the same stage: Acceptance.
When a subject awakens and skips all those stages and immediately accepts their new controlled reality, I’ve found that they usually fall into 2 subcategories of acceptance. The first of which is very close to depression as they calmly accept their fate and mourn the loss of their freedom. However, I’ve had the delightful surprise to come upon a few that fall in a much different type of acceptance. Those rare gems wake up and take in their surroundings with a sly smile as if they can’t believe that this isn’t a dream.
There is a unique kind of anticipatory tremor that inevitably shakes their bodies as they look at me, hope oozing from their gaze while I inform them of what was done to them. I’ve had some of them laugh out loud while others become impossibly aroused. These diamonds in the rough are powerfully entertaining, especially those that feel the need to thank me for taking them like I have.
Eventually of course, that particular sentiment is shared to all my little playthings. Regardless of how much they resist or curse me, I make a point to show them the pleasure and freedom they can achieve once they truly give into the control I have over them. Some of them get there after just one night while others need to go through several stages before they can truly embrace the pleasure I offer.
It’s always infinitely entertaining to take a new plaything and wonder how they’ll react at their awakening. Sometimes I’m right on the money while other times, they completely surprise me. Everyone is different… Unique… That infinite mystery is definitely a big part of what I enjoy with them.
If you exclude the obvious pleasure I receive in exchange of course…

National Collect Rocks Day
Be a geologist for a day and see what interesting rocks you can find. Pick up a book on local rocks or hop on the internet to identify what you find.
Why not live out a childhood dream and be a geologist for the day in celebration of Collect Rocks Day? If you’re the type of person who can’t resist picking up a pebble or two at the beach, or is always on the lookout for shiny minerals when they dig the garden, then this is a chance to make time for finding attractive stones and crystals. People of all ages can use Collect Rock Day as a chance to search for precious and beautiful rocks.
History of Collect Rocks Day
The study of rocks and earth, otherwise known as geology, has been around since at least the 4th century. In Ancient Greece, Aristotle made some important observations about geological changes and the work in the field of geology continued on from there. As the Romans needed certain rocks to build their empire, they became particularly adept at studying, mining and acquiring various types of rocks.
While some folks might simply overlook the importance of rocks, others have a keen eye and can see the unique ways that the planet expresses itself through different kinds of rocks! Collect Rocks Day was established to show honor and appreciation for this interesting activity of looking for, gathering and maintaining a collection of stones and rocks.
How to Celebrate Collect Rocks Day
Get into the groove of Collect Rocks Day by joining up with some friends and participating in some events and activities. Start with some of these ideas for celebrating the day:
Collect Rocks with School Kids
On Collect Rocks Day, school teachers may wish to combine rock collecting with some learning around different rock types and how they are formed. Perhaps it would be fun to head out to a park or forest area, or even just the backyard, for kids to search for unique and interesting rocks or stones that they can collect and learn more about. Teachers could encourage students to check out books from the library that are centered around the theme of geology and rock collecting.
Once the kids in the class have been outdoors and have collected their rocks, it might be great to build a lesson around the concepts of geology. And don’t forget to create a display so that the rock collection can be viewed by other classes or even the whole school!
Visit a Rock Museum
One way to show appreciation for Collect Rocks Day would be to visit a museum that houses a professional array of collected rocks. The United States offers a wide array of geology museums within a short distance of most cities and towns. Check out one of these geology museums in celebration of the day:
Rutgers Geology Museum located in New Brunswick, New Jersey
University of Wisconsin Geology Museum in Madison, Wisconsin
Mines Museum of Earth Science in Golden, Colorado
Yavapai Geology Museum located in Grand Canyon Village, Arizona
Take a Rock Collecting Trip
For adults, Collect Rocks Day is the perfect opportunity for a trip to a fossil-filled beach in search of rocky treasures. Or why not experience something a little different and try panning for gold in a little stream or river? There could be an endless number of exciting possibilities for celebrating Collect Rocks Day in a memorable way for those who just want to get a bit creative with it!
Create a Collect Rocks Day Playlist
A superb way to celebrate any day is to be sure to have the correctly themed soundtrack to play in the background! Collect Rocks Day offers a wide array of songs that can be placed on a playlist through Spotify, Apple music or another platform and then played just for fun.
Try adding some of these rock themed songs to a playlist for the day:
Rock You Like a Hurricane by Scorpions (1984)
We Will Rock You by Queen (1977)
Rock with You by Michael Jackson (1979)
Crocodile Rock by Elton John (1972)

Speaking of your question about Plagg and Tikki, I feel like the kwamis aren't really... necessary? I mean, they work as sidekicks at times, but most of the time I feel like their role as actual gods is really null, they don't really advance the plot unless it's kwami related episode and their point as mentors suck.
It's why I prefer their PV selves, at least we can see how much they actually help. Plus, the whole reason they even enter the jewel makes me think "are all people who use Nooroo and Duusuu villains or something?"
So, I'd much rather prefer if they were this holographic animals (since I never understand why each one is considered that) over tech suits. Especially since they can't even offer advice when transformed.
(That's my opinion though, can be wrong)
Oh they really aren't. For the show, kwamis are an after thought. They're really just there to be the "anime mascot" and sell toys. They aren't included to be actual characters and powerful beings that have been around longer than humanity. Biggest show of this is that, we hardly have anything on the kwami-holder relationship outside the lead duo, and they just quickly default to "I like/love this human", and when there's multiple kwamis together, they default to a hive mentality and act like little kids.
You cut them out, you don't miss much. At most, you'll miss out on kwamis adding chaos and stress to Marinette's life, and you'd miss out on Plagg being with Adrien, which Plagg makes the most fun in the Adrien focused scenes. Take Plagg out, and Adrien just sits in his room. Though, that could be a plus cause if they want Adrien to be engaging, he'd have to DO something since there's no kwami to work off of.
Tikki and Plagg, who have the most attention for kwamis, aren't true characters either as their views and personality and actions will all come down to the whims of the writers and what they need kwamis to do for this specific episode. Like, take Tikki and her involvement in romance; some eps she will push the LS agenda or get invested in the romance, some eps she doesn't get it, or say she can't be involved as "kwamis don't feel romantic love". You got Plagg in some eps resisting the transformation cause he doesn't want to power the ring and just wants to laze around, but in another ep he'll be trying to get Adrien into action and be a hero.
So with all that, kwamis don't warrant existing in the show as they don't bring anything in or progress anything; and the bit of focus they get is often clashing with anything prior. Like, take Barkk who has 2 different personalities; you got a dutiful Barkk who is serious and diligent in Furious Fu, but then you get high on puppy energy Barkk in Strikeback. So, what's the true Barkk? Is Barkk a diligent and dutiful kwami? Is Barkk playful, warm, and energetic? Is Barkk a mixture of the two, knowing there's a time to play and a time to work?
They just don't care or prioritize the kwamis enough to establish character (though this does extend to a lot of ML characters who will have clashing actions and personalities).
I do find it to be a shame, cause I think the kwamis could've been the most fascinating aspect of ML. Cause these are beings who've been there as humanity grew and developed, and they did live through much of history and clearly have traveled all over the world and got to be involved in a variety of cultures. They should all be incredibly wise and have unique experiences to share. And given the animal motif, there could've been fun basing their personalities around animal stereotypes, and working off their symbolism and mythology.
Like, instead of no thoughts head empty, eager to be a servant Pollen, she should have been as sweet as honey, open minded, have strong values in diligence, duty, teamwork, communication, and nurturing others and all life. And if you actually successfully piss her off, she's going to be one of the scariest kwamis to face. Cause hey, bees will sting back, and in Hindu mythology, through the goddess Bhrami, bees and wasps are associated terminated evil/chaos; also actual bees will terminate a bad queen bee. So Chloe getting the Bee should have gone very differently. Could've also worked off Pollen being the only kwami to have a gender preference to what humans can use her power.
There's also a lot of potential in kwami relationships, as in mythology and fairy tales, many animals have complex relationships; some would be close friends, and some would be rivals if not enemies. Plagg and Mullo should be tense with each other and have a rivalry; Plagg and Barkk could frenemies, as well as Longg and Roaar. Plagg and Roaar could be tight as a loose nod to pair of Guardian Lions, Barkk and Orikko should be rivals with Trixx with the latter enjoying messing with Barkk and Orikko. Sass and Wayzz should be best friends, ect..
Another thing that could've been interesting, especially post Guardian Marinette, is that the kwamis all should have different views and opinions on what to do. And the chaos Marinette should have experienced is more too many cooks in the kitchen than dealing with floating toddlers. Like, take Marinette struggling whether to stay connected with her friends or cut ties to fully focus on being a hero, Barkk, Pollen, and Kaalki think she should continue to be friends with them, let them in. Ziggy, Sass, and Stompp though think she should cut ties to focus on her duty, embrace the independence. Trixx and Tikki think Marinette should try to do both, cause you need your friends, but you should also prioritize your duty. And Marinette is torn on who to listen to cause there's no easy answer.
So, should kwamis have not be included? Given the writers, yes. They don't care enough to really focus on the kwamis, and clearly can't handle all 19 kwamis that exist. But I do think they're a big missed opportunity cause they easily could've been the best part of the show given that many animals have a lot of myths, stories, and lore tied to them that could've been incorporated into the show and really make each kwami unique and fascinating.
