Curly the scapegoat and the Fandom
So I was thinking of Curly's position in the fandom and noticed a few things. Just like Jimmy and Pony Express the fandom uses Curly as a scapegoat and emotional punching bag of sorts. With Curly baring the majority of judgement and fault the fandom doesn't have to actually engage with the complexities of the other characters. The characters, the narrative, and the themes get to be flattened out if Curly is the ultimate object of guilt.
When people discuss Curly being "an accomplice" to Jimmy and similar I've noticed that Jimmy gets talked about as if he's a force of nature and not a grown man. Curly is treated as if he is responsible for Jimmy's actions as if Jimmy were his child or if Jimmy was a hurricane and Curly failed to board up the windows. I think this happens because if Curly is to blame then the fandom can avoid engaging with Jimmy directly. If Jimny is just "the evil Curly enabled" then there's no need to analysis him, to talk about how human he is, how poverty and masculinity shaped him, and how Pony Express took advantage of him.
Speaking of Pony Express, Curly is their scapegoat in and out of universe. Not only are they barely spoken of even though they are at the root of every problem the crew faces but Curly is often directly blamed for their actions. So many people in the fandom blame Curly for the lack of locks on the ship or Daisuke being there and resulting in a cryopod shortage. Curly is used by the fandom as a stand in for PE to the point where very few people question the systems of capitalism and hierarchy PE represents instead reducing it down to Curly not doing his job.
For the other 3 crew members with Curly taking the burden of fault they get to be elevated to faultless victims. It's to the point where Swansea and Daisuke get to be painted as potential heroes to Anya and in Daisuke's case a perfect angel. Their flaws and mistakes are completely glossed over so they can contrast to "Curly the accomplice". Swansea belittling Anya is flipped on its head to make him protective of her instead even though he never directly is. Daisuke being a college aged man who willingly helped roofie someone is ignored in favor of infantalizing him.
Anya gets it the worse in my opinion. She and Curly are paralleled almost completely but her own complexity is thrown out the window in order to make her the perfect victim. All of her actions are only spoken of in a positive light despite the fact that her actions are parallel to Curly whose actions get him labeled an enabler and at fault. Curly is made into Anya's shadow being the "bad victim" so Anya can be the "good" one.
As for the narrative and themes if Curly is reduced to the scapegoat role the fandom gets to reduce everything down to just rape culture and female victimhood. These themes are important but they're not the only ones. Capitalism is in fact a huge portion of the narrative, as well as disability, male victimhood, psychological abuse, masculinity, and hierarchy. I understand the want to focus on the rape culture aspects but the fandom sometimes shuts down other analysis as "missing the point". I think Mouthwashing has a lot to say that the fandom just doesn't want to acknowledge.
#curly mouthwashing#mouthwashing#jimmy mouthwashing#anya mouthwashing#daisuke mouthwashing#swansea mouthwashing#This is just what I've seen#tell me if you've noticed different#also there's a lot that needs to be said I think about the fandom perpetuating the very kind of problems Mouthwashing look into#the sexism in how Anya and Curly are treated as victims#Anya being reduced to victimhood#while Curly is denied it#the victim blaming under the surface of it all for both of them#the intersection of ableism and how the fandom views Curly#there also needs to be a conversation about the racism in infantilizing an Asian man

Kinktober masterlist - Main masterlist - Send me requests!!!
~
You could feel her eyes burning into the back of your skull as you landed blow after blow on the punching bag. She wasnt even supposed to be back from her mission yet but you werenât gonna let her run you out of the training room You tried to ignore the daggers being thrown your way and just keep focusing but it was hard.
âCan i help you with something or are you just gonna keep staring at me?â You question the witch as you turn around to face her. She raises her eyebrow and scoffs at you.
âJust was seeing how the weakest link was doingâ Venom dripped off Wandas voice as she spoke.
âForget i askedâ You pushed passed her grabbing you water and your bag before walking out of the training room not wanting to fight with her yet again.
Ever since you got recruited for the Avengers Wanda has been nothing but rude and bitchy. No one knows why in all honestly, everyone thought she would like you with how bubbly you were. But nope she treated you like a child, belittled your abilities and trauma, made you feel worthless and was just overall rude. At first you thought it was because you were new but its been three years of this. So you finally started snapping back at her and treating her like how she treated you.
And ever since you had started snapping back she had just gotten meaner. The team had tried to get you two to talk it through but that didnât work. So they decided that the two of you werenât allowed of missions alone or allowed to be along in general. Granted Wanda still got you alone just to belittle you like now.
âWhy do you always run away? Scared of a little confrontation?â She sneered following behind you making you groan.
âBecause why would i wanna sit here and listen to you belittle me Wanda? I dont even know what the hell i did to youâ You replied feeling yourself getting worked up.
âMaybe if you werenât a whiny child id actually like youâ Wanda crossed her arms over her chest and tilting her head.
âYouâre such a bitch you know that right? Ive been nothing but nice to you since i joined and youâve been nothing but an ice cold bitch. Iâm fucking done with it. Iâm done with the snide remarks. Iâm just doneâ Your words catch her off guard a little as she sees your resolve start to crumble. âYou arenât the only one who has to deal with shit and you just make my life ten times harder than it needs to be. Leave me the fuck aloneâ And with that you walk off to your room leaving Wanda in the hallway stunned.
As you walked away Wanda went to her room and just sat there feeling like shit. Itâs not that Wanda didnât like you⌠Hell she loved you but she was scared. She has never experienced love before and from the moment she met you she fell for you. You were bright eyed and bushy tailed when you first joined. You had been so nice and loving to her at first it threw her for a loop. So she thought that if she was bitchy towards you that you wouldnât want to be near you. And it worked you started fighting back and Wanda was proud.. That was until she started to miss your sunny disposition. But she knew it was for the best atleast this way you werenât tainted by her darkness.
When you had finally made it back to your room you had fallen onto your bed and broke down. You didnât understand what you did to make her hate you so much and it killed you. Since the moment you joined the team the witch had your attention. She was beautiful and alluring and all you wanted was to be close to her until she started he shit. And once the bullying got out of hand you snapped back and it felt good and then you promised yourself you were gonna stick up for yourself.
You thought the shit you had to endure in The Red Room was bad? Nothing compared to the coldness you felt from Wanda. In all honesty you were still madly in love with her but gave up any hope of her being interested when the shit started. So you just decided to keep your distance from her even thought she never let it happen.
âMiss L/n Mr.Stark requests your presence in the conference room immediatelyâ F.R.I.D.A.Yâs voice pulls you out of your thoughts and you reluctantly walk to the conference room.
When you had gotten to the room you saw Stark and Wanda. Stark looked like a disappointed dad and Wanda looked like a teenager getting yelled at. They both turned to look at you as you entered shooting Tony a confused look.
âAh y/n sit pleaseâ He said motioning for you to sit and you chose a chair farthest from Wanda.
âUh why am i here?â You ask starting to feel a little anxious. The witch groaned and rolled her eyes at your question making Tony scowl at her.
âWell F.R.I.D.A.Y had informed me of the encounter between the two of you this morning and i think itâs time the two of you talk it out.â Tony said with a look of genuine concern as he looked at you.
âI dont think thats necessary Stark. Just keep her away from me and Iâll be fineâ You try to reason with him but he shakes his head despite your protests.
âIâm sorry but that just wont work. You two need to talk it out.â He said looking in between you and Wanda. Wanda huffed in annoyance and rolled her eyes while you tried to argue with Stark.
âYou two are leaving this room until you work it out.â And with that he ran out of the room locking you two in it.
âSTARK!â Wanda yelled banging on the door and trying to open it with her powers.
âSorry witchy youre wiggly woos wont workâ He said through the intercom. âTalk it out or be stuck in here foreverâ Then suddenly you heard him activate barn door protocol and the entire room went on lockdown.
âOh my fucking godâ You groan resting your head in your hands. Wanda kept trying to open the door with blasts but it didnât work. She eventually gave up and slumped back into her chair not even bothering to look at you.
The room was filled with an uncomfortable silence as the two of you just sat there staring at the ceiling. Sure you couldâve used this time to actually solve your problems with the witch but if she wasnt going to talk neither were you.
âThis is ridiculousâ She mumbled under her breath running her hand through her hair.
âYouâre the reason we are even hereâ You remind her making her scoff in annoyance. âWhy do you even hate me anyways? What did i even do to you?â The question takes Wanda by surprise and she stands up and walks closer to you. She leaned against the table in front of you making your eyes meet hers.
âI-I dont hate you y/nâ She said softly pulling a chair up and sitting next to you.
âSure seems like you doâ You remark with your eyebrow raised. Wanda sighed and shook her head at your statement.
âThat means i did what i wantedâ Her words made you title your head in confusion and you furrow your brows. âI pushed you away because i didnât want you to get caught up in my darkness, everyone i have ever loved has died its like im cursed. And when you first joined you were so pure and sweet and-and it scared the shit out of me. Iâm sorry i hurt you i meant to push you away⌠not hurt youâ Wandas confession was not what you were expecting. You looked into her eyes to see if she was telling the truth and you saw nothing but genuine truth behind her words.
âYou arenât cursed Wandaâ You said softly grabbing her hands and rubbing your thumb over her knuckles. âBad things happen all the time but it doesnât mean you should turn yourself away from the good things.â Wandas entire demeanor softened at your words. For the first time in a long time she thought that maybe she deserved something good.
âIâm so fucking sorry for the way iâve treated youâ She apologized cupping your cheek with her soft hand. It felt like time was moving slowly as you and her stared into each others eyes.
âShow me how sorry you areâ You whispered leaning in close to her your lips hovering over hers. Wanda wasted no time in crashing her lips into yours. You moaned at the taste of her as you kissed her with more passion than you thought possible. She grabbed your hips and moved you to sit on her lip not breaking the kiss once.
Instinctively you started to grind your hips down onto her thigh to relive the throbbing in your core. Her hands found their way under your shirt and grasped at your clothed chest. She was quick to remove your clothes with her powers leaving you naked on her lap.
âSo pretty malyshkaâ She whispered kissing below your ear. You kept grinding down on her thigh leaving a wet spot on her clothed thigh. Her ringed fingers found their way down your chest slowly making their way to your clit.
âOh fuckâ You moaned feeling her cold fingers rub circles on your clit. You started grinding yourself against her faster as she plays with you eliciting moans from you.
âCum for malyshâ She eggs you on by adding one finger into you making you moan in satisfaction.
âOh fuck mommy-â The title slips from your lips before you could stop it and you halt your movements and stare at her in embarrassment. She looked at you with wide eyes smiling at the name you called her.
âSay it again babyâ Wanda pleaded looking up at you with her green eyes and devilish smile.
âPlease mommy fuck meâ You beg picking up grinding on her thigh making wet noises come from your pussy.
âFuck-â She muttered picking you up by your thighs then laid you down on the table and spreading your legs.
Her tongue darted out to lick a stripe on your pussy. She moaned at the taste of you invading her senses. She started eating you out like sheâs never eaten before.
âOh right there mommy!â Your hands flew to her hair when she adds two fingers in you hitting your g-spot. Wanda groans when she feels your walls clench around her fingers sending vibrations through you.
âG-Gonna cu-cum mommy fuck!â Your screams filled the office and you were never more thankful for soundproofing than you are now.
âCum for me baby let goâ She mumbles thrusting now three fingers in you. Her pace never relented as she fucked into you hitting all the right spots.
âFUCK!â You scream and the knot in your stomach snaps and you come undone on her tongue.
âSo good malyshâ Wanda praised bringing you in for a sloppy kiss. The mix of your arousal and her cherry chapstick makes you melt further into the kiss. Wanda flicks her wrist and her clothes come off and a strap appears on her waist.
Your eyed widened at the strap that adorned her waist. It was red and by father the biggest you have ever had. âNeed to be in you babyâ She groaned rubbing the faux cock against your puffy folds. Little did you know that the strap had been enchanted so she could feel everything.
âFuck me mommyâ You plead grasping at her to bring her closer to you. She smiled softly at you as her hands grasped the strap and slowly entered you. Once she bottomed out her hips stuttered at the feeling of your walls clenching down on her.
âSo fucking tightâ She moaned setting a slow pace careful not to hurt you. You were losing your mind feeling Wanda kiss your g-spot with the tip of the strap. The room was filled with both of your moans accompanied by the sound by skin slapping against each other.
âR-Right there mommy oh my god-â Your moans are cut off as you cum for the second time.
âSuch a good girlâ She praised fucking into you as she chases her own orgasm. âFuck!â Wanda grunted as she came . Her hips stilled and she pulled out of you slowly despite your whines.
âT-That was fucking amazingâ You said sitting up on the table trying to catch your breath. Wanda chuckled and flicked her wrist dressing you both again.
âAgreed malyshâ She whispered giving you a passionate kiss. The two of you got so lost in each other you didnât even hear the locks and door opening.
âWell done you twoâ Tonys voice came from the intercom. You and Wanda both looked at each other and giggled.
The two of you walked out of the room and went back to Wandas room hand in hand with smiles on your faces. When you get to her room you lay on her bed with open arms. She laughs and crawls over to you and lays you down on her chest.
âI love youâ She whispers kissing your head.
âI love you tooâ You said with a bright smile and gave her a kiss on the cheek. The rest of the night was spent with Wanda showing you just how much she loved you and you relishing in her love. Who knew the bitchy witch could be such a softie.

One of the many parts of N's character that makes me a little unwell is the infantilization of him done by Ghetsis. I think about it so often.
N is twenty years old at the time of Black and White and he still uses his childhood bedroom; we know he still uses it in recent times because when interacting with the train set inside during the final stretch of the game, the flavor text say the trains look recently played with. There is no doubt that this is the room that adult N stays and lives in.
The first thing that really sticks out to you is that N is an adult and his room is clearly not fit for one. The second thing you might notice is that it doesn't really look like a bedroom, it looks like a playroom. You get a sense of discomfort from the room and that's partially due to knowing who it belongs to but I also think it has to do with the fact that it doesn't even look like a bedroom; it doesn't look suitable for a child to necessarily live in.
N's room ties back into the themes of "innocence" surrounding N; children and childhood often represent purity and innocence, things N is expected to be. It's like he's expected to remain in this state of childishness as a way of him "staying" pure.
And it's not only within the environment that N lives in that you see this, it's with Ghetsis' dialogue towards N as well. There are a few instances where Ghetsis refers to N when he's not around; saying he once "set up a certain man as king" but when he's talking to N after he loses at the end of Black and White? He's belittling him and only calls him "boy". He's being condescending, he's telling N exactly how he feels about him and while berating him, that's the choice of words he uses.
Ghetsis doesn't see N as a human being and he also doesn't see him as an adult. It draws to mind the kinds of adults who view children as lesser than, people who don't have thoughts or autonomy of their own. And at the end of the day, it all ties back into Ghetsis' manipulation of N. He needs him to remain naive and unquestioning; he wants him to be that same child he found in the forest. It doesn't do him any good if N is a free thinking adult. It's just easier to force him into the role of a stupid, malleable child instead. An adult gets to have their own thoughts and feelings, gets to be their own person and those are privileges N isn't afforded.
It fits in perfectly with all of N's themes of inhumanity and lack of autonomy. No one ever sees him as simply a person. He'll always be a stupid child, a glorious leader, a freak without a human heart, a traitor and people are always telling him what he needs to be or what he already is. Ghetsis refuses to let N be fully human, to have full autonomy over himself whether that's treating him like an inhuman freak or a stupid child who doesn't know any better; he'll never be a whole human being.
#pokemon#n harmonia#i think about this sooo often#how his infantilization directly relates back to his dehumanization#he deserves to be a human being and he also deserves to be treated like an adult#Guhhh i just have so many feelings about this

Day 5
Jealousy is a beast, but loneliness is a monster.
Jealousy ignites with fiery tendrils but loneliness drowns you slowly until you're staring up from the bottom of the pitch black sea, yearning for the light.
All day she's been mulling over the three woman-creatures, Feyd's "pets". What is it that infuriates her the most? The physical violence? The fear of what they might have done to her - Death, torture or worse? Their derogatory status? Their beastliness grafted into female bodies, paired with the fact that Feyd has been bedding them at some point?
Without thinking about it, and perhaps it is tactless, she has been pouring her heart out to Lilia while the attentive handmaid is treating her scabbed injuries from last night. Now it is evident that wound management is a well-needed skill around the Harkonnen palace. The sarcophagus is safely folded up and her new weapon is tucked into one of the compartments.
"Am I overreacting?!" She asks, even though - hell no - she knows she isn't, but a part of her soul yearns for human connection, affirmation, camaraderie, friendship. It feels so good to be talking to someone who is not the man she thought she knew or the belittling Bene Gesserit sisters.
"Hmm," Lilia begins tentatively and the glowglobe light brings out the unusual color of her eyes as she tilts her head, so amber that they almost appear golden. "While I'll say it's never been common for the na-Baron to practice monogamy⌠I'll also say that I'd be quite furious at my husband if he had three women on the side." Her voice quivers upon women, as if it repels her to describe the three beings as such. The spider in the Baron's throne room may be the most harmless monster to roam these halls.
The engineer's questions chip away and it becomes perfectly clear that it's the jealousy that cuts the deepest, even with her superficial wounds cared for, a blade is wedged inside her guts that will keep on cutting.
"And do these 'pets' have handmaids too?" A self-destructive question to determine where her own status truly lies. What's a bride but another pet to him?
"They used to have handmaidsâŚ" Lilia hesitates. "But they always ended up eating them. I'm glad to be assigned to you, my Lady."
Great. There she has another horror to add to the menagerie.
Lilia continues: "If it calms you, I doubt there will be any further incidences with them. The na-Baron has been in an, uhm, unstable mood since last night." The maid's posture turns rigid. She shouldn't be speaking about the na-Baron like that, but the Earth woman's emotions are contagious. Lilia will get herself killed if she's not careful. She's been telling that to herself since she was a little girl.
"Unstable, uh-huh, well so am I."
The Harkonnen woman nods and decides it is best not to elaborate on what it means when Feyd-Rautha is having the worst day of his life.
Vladimir Harkonnen chuckles with delight at his nephew's distress and the infantile killing spree that has been painting the halls black since last night.
It took even less time than he expected, for the new woman to be disgusted by his poor nephew and he cannot hold it against her. Feyd-Rautha is a raging child in an unfortunately manly body.Â
The Baron is well-entertained by the hollow screams that blare down the hallways. First the three harpies. A shame, they had helped keep Feyd settled so nicely and they hadn't been cheap either. It's also a shame that the Bene Tleilax don't offer bulk discount, considering the number of Gholas the Baron saw himself forced to commission for the little game his nephew and he have been playing.
Next on Feyd's blade was the guard at his little witch's door, then anyone who crossed his path in the night, all the while Feyd was chafing with desire to be cut and hurt. But no one outside of the ring is allowed to raise their blades against the Baron's heir apparent, unless instructed by the Harkonnen sovereign himself.
Some fire has returned to his nephew since the woman's arrival and he appreciates that, yes, he does, but he will keep a sharp eye on the two of them. He has no doubt that she's a Bene Gesserit agent who has implanted phantasms in Feyd-Rautha's mind, but Vladimir is willing to play the sisterhood's game, for his nephew's sake, even though he had sworn to never let a witch enter his fortress again.Â
Not since Lady Margot Fenring had tried to steal his lovely boy's precious seed. Luckily, Feyd's blade had worked quicker than the thief's vocal chords.
But Valdimir is willing to adapt. The boy had been boring him to death for the past two years and he used to be so entertaining and feisty!
In the evening hours after a night and day of bloodshed, Feyd still has stamina (a trait the Baron cherishes so dearly about his nephew) and comes barging into the guarded dining room, bringing with him the cloying scent of blood that sticks to the tacky soles of his boots. He wears the clothes of yesterday and blood lust in his eyes.
Careful now.
Vladimir gives no sign to the guards, chews without haste and takes a noisy gulp of wine, making sure a bead rolls down the folds of his massive neck. The muscle at his nephew's jaw twitches and his fingers strangulate the blood-slick handle of his blade.
The eight arm-legged arachnid creature shivers in its basket under the table, eager to get to Feyd, partly because his boots smell yummy, but it doesn't dare move away from the Baron's feed. Smart thing.
"Don't look at me like that. It's not my fault that she doesn't like you, boy."
Feyd halts as if struck by one of the bolts of infrared lightning that cook the atmosphere during the summer months. Tension strains his neck, a bull ready to charge at his Matador and for a second the Baron thinks he'll have to switch on his shield ring. But his nephew turns and barges off with bouncing, stomping steps, draining his stamina and wetting his knives on everything that breathes, when the only one he really wants to kill sits fat and mighty on his throne.Â
It's almost cute, Vladimir thinks. The boy could kill him so easily now, if he really put his cunning, little mind to it. He's strong enough, smart enough, but his spirit - that's the crux. Feyd's spirit is broken and riddled with fear of the punishments. The last time he tried was at 17 and then never again.
Ah-h-h, yes, the Baron has conditioned him well and he considers it his retirement plan. Age hasn't left the Harkonnen sovereign unscathed and while his mind may still be sharp (or else how would he have come up with such a genius plan!), his morbidly obese body fully relies on the protection of his shield ring, guards, lung machine and poison snoopers. But as long as the boy still fears him, the deadliest threat within these halls remains on a pretty, silver leash.
The fire of jealousy has dwindled down and now all she does is miss him, sitting lonely in her room, lonely on this planet, lonely in the universe with only inanimate objects and the virtual messages and images of dead people to keep her company. None of this can ever compare to the warm hands of her beloved and his smile, the roundness of his cheeks and his painted teeth. She misses the way his eyes used to crinkle just for her. He had made her believe that only she could make him smile and offer a sliver of peace to his soul.
It's been two years since their last dream. Why wouldn't he have taken other women?
He said he "hasn't touched them". Since when? Since he learned she's alive? Since their first dreams? Ever?
She regrets now that she denied him when he knocked on her door an hour ago. The bitter guilt of disgracing oneself crawls over her when she slowly moves towards the door, but her self-respect has cauterized and become cinders along with her fury. Feeling sick to her stomach, she places her hand on the panel and the heavy door slides open.
Finding herself face to back with a guard in bulky plate armor, she halts. She wouldn't know where exactly to find Feyd's room anyway. The man turns on his heels and salutes briskly before returning his hand to the hilt of his saber.
"Good evening. Ah, wait, are you⌠New?" She blurts out, not meaning to seem disrespectful. The Harkonnens often do look quite alike to her, but she could have sworn the old guard was a little shorter.
"Yes, my Lady." The man looks right above the crown of her head, avoiding her eyes.
"What happened to the other guard?"
"He was replaced, my Lady."
That does make sense and she's almost a little relieved. She wouldn't want anyone who'd let these bloodthirsty creatures inside to guard her and her most valuable possession. However, she still hopes this incident won't ruin his chances of employment indefinitely.
"I see." She glances cautiously down the austere corridor. Past the windows, there is only blackness and the occasional faraway rumble from the factories. "Do you have to stand here all night? Your feet must be hurting. What about a chair?"
"I'm not allowed such luxuries."
"Says who? You can't excel at your job while being overworked and your feet are aching in those boots."Â
The man wonders if the na-Baron's Lady wishes to insult or test him. "I am at full capacity, my Lady!" He salutes again. "I have no complaints about my boots."
"Fine, alright. Could you please point me the way to Feyd's room then? I want to see him. No need to accompany me, I'm sure I'll find it, just make sure no one enters my room, please?"
"Sorry!" The man extends his arm to the side, stopping her advance around him without laying a finger on the Lady. "The na-Baron has ordered this door to be sealed unless he or your handmaid demand entrance."
"Well I don't demand entrance, I want to exit. I want to see Feyd."
The guard grows queasy. That scenario was not included in his instructions. To be fair, the briefing for his new position can be considered rudimental at best but he didn't complain. Up here has been the safest spot in the palace tonight. "The na-Baron doesn't welcome visitors in his private quarters."
"But I'm hisâŚ" She swallows uncomfortably. "Betrothed, or am I not?"
"You are, my Lady."
"So, couldn't you perhaps call him?"
The poor guard's expression says 'I'd rather not'. The na-Baron has only just settled, finally, and even the dumbest desert rat knows not to wake a sleeping tiger. All evening long he's been wondering how many of his comrades will be dead come the morning and he doesn't want to be the next one to become fodder for the slaves' food rations. "I'm sorry, my Lady. It is against the protocol to disturb the na-Baron at night unless there is an emergency. Is there an emergency?"
"NoâŚ" The woman's expression twists into defeat and she pads backwards with slackened shoulders and somber eyes. "I'm sorry to have bothered you."
The door slides shut and she is too sad to even be angry about her gentle imprisonment. There's nothing out there for her anyway, except for Feyd, and if he doesn't want to see herâŚ
Self-destructive thoughts sprout from the cinders in her chest and grow into the wildest phantasms. The guard was too kind to tell her Feyd has visitors in his room. Perhaps he explicitly decreed that she is not to join him.
To prevent herself from hurtling into a bottomless spiral, she must find a distraction. Nearly choking on bitter tears, she opens up the virtual app drawer that she's most familiar with and selects the 3d-modeling tool. A nice, little task to keep her thoughts from straying is exactly what she needs, and so she settles down on the bed and begins to design a practical, foldable, printable chair for her guard, thoughtfully optimizing stability and the required resources.
The engineer doesn't notice when her tears dry, but they do.
Day 6
She sleeps awfully that night, despite the chip's helpful sleeping program consisting of gentle rain and soothing frequencies. It can't have been much longer than two hours when she is awoken by a knock on the door, followed by another, more insistent one a moment later.
The 3d-modeling interface still overlays reality when her eyes snap open and her sluggish brain activity requires a moment to shut it down. She was almost finished with the printable chair parts last night, but she must have dozed off eventually.Â
The knocking persists and she calls: "Lilia?"
A pause. "It's me." An unmistakable, deep and raspy voice comes muffled from the other side. Feyd-Rautha, freshly showered and dressed in a clean, casual suit, leans his forehead against the cool, thick plastic, breathing hard and fast so that his respiration condenses on the door. Waiting, he pleads silently for mercy. He cannot do this anymore, doesn't want to kill anymore just to feel something other than fear.
She freezes, legs half swung off the mattress as anxiety twists her belly. All of her jealousy comes crashing back and a little demon whispers poison in her ear: Go back to your hyenas and toy around with them, not me!
When silence is the answer to Feyd's timid greeting, his stomach drops as if filled with lead. Blood pounds in his ears like the war drums on his birthdays and his breath becomes shallow, so that he no longer even hears the guard's antsy shuffling. What will he do if she never forgives him?Â
A harrowing need for violence flashes through him cold and dark and his twitching hand jerks for the blade at his hip but the door rushes open before he can brandish it and his woman faces him with crossed arms, her face puffy from sleep but her eyes are wide and vulnerable.
She beckons him to enter and he follows, eyes racing to the crowns of thorns in the vase, the sarcophagus, the ruffled bed, everything the way it was. How does she deal with pain?!
"Hello," Feyd mumbles, voice reduced to a tiny, grated whisper.
"Hello."
"Can we⌠talk?"
The relic nods and waits, clammy fingers clutching her sleeves. But then Feyd says⌠nothing. His eyes are focused on an imaginary point somewhere behind her navel and his jaws strain as if chewing a brick.
So, she begins: "I'm sorry, but I was very upset." She paces, shoulders drawn up. "I know that customs are different around here, I mean, they obviously are," she guffaws quietly and shakes her head. "But where I'm from, it requires consent to have more than one partner and I never gave you that consent. I've never given my consent to anything that's happened to me since I woke up! And then I found out you're alive and I can be with you and I really believed everything would finally be better, but you-" Her voice hiccups. "I'm very upset, okay?" Her lips twist and she lifts a hand to her mouth, sobbing quietly into her palm. "You're so different in real life."
Feyd's frozen limbs regain their agility and he jumps to her side as she tries to turn away, a swift predator despite his anguish. He clutches her by the arms. "Wait! Remind me. H-How was I in our dreams?"Â
"I- I don't know, you looked happy." Her arms burn where he's holding onto her with his broad palms and long fingers. "And you were kind."
"Have I not been kind to you?"
"To me, yes. But being kind only to me is not enough." She shakes her head bitterly.
"What do you want me to do?"Â
"Be honest with me. Who are these three?! They said you don't play with them anymore like you used to, and they hurt me, Feyd!" She writhes out of his clenched fists and he lets her because when her fingers skim his wrists, all his muscles go weak. She yanks up her shirt, showing off the healing gash on her waist.
Feyd wants to kill his darlings all over again and his sinful mouth twists into anger. "They used to be my pets. Pleasure slaves, if you will. Just some meaningless toys, nothing more, I swear it to you."
"Pleasure slaves!" She blurts out, shaking her head. At least he's being honest but - what the fuck?! "You-" Stumbling over her own words, she backs away from him with disgust. "Who are you? Who the fuck are you?"
More violence waits on her tongue. Does he respect anyone other than himself?
"You know me! You know who I am, where are you going?!" Doesn't she know she knows more about him than anyone else?
"I don't know shit about you!" She yells. "Where were you last night?"
"What?" All color is drained from his face. How could she know?
"Were you with them because I couldn't perform the way you wanted the other day?"
"What are you talking about?!" Feyd tries to grasp her by the arms once more but she twists away. If anything, he is at blame for being unable to make his woman comfortable enough to reach her release. What a pitiful good-for-nothing he is, pathetic down to the last, rotting cell. "I haven't touched my pets since I met you and that's the truth!"
"Oh, yeah? Then why was I not allowed to see you at night?"Â
"What makes you say that?"Â
"I tried to come to you last night, but the guard at my door said I'm supposed to stay in this room! So, were you with them?!"
Feyd stops his advance and an incredulous shimmer glazes over his blinking eyes. He could have held her last night, against his hurting heart. A dizzying lightness befalls his chest and sorrow becomes anger and anger wings his footsteps when he turns to the door, grinning, then giggling. Feyd slams his veined hand against the panel so hard, the screen cracks and inky blood slips down the valleys of his palm.
"Feyd? Feyd! What are you-"
The baffled guard faces the snickering na-Baron behind the opening door, last night's tiger resurrected like a Ghola for one last kill. A stammered 'my Lord' on diddering lips. Feyd-Rautha looks as bestial as his hyenas with prowling steps and rolling shoulders, searing eyes locked on his unmoving prey.
"You told my woman she couldn't see me last night? S'that right?" A slip of pink peeks out of the ghastly frame of black, gnashing teeth.
"My Lord, I beg your mercy, I didn't wish to distur-"
Metal flashes. The relic screams as the length of Feyd-Rautha's blade carves into the guard's pallid neck, Adam's apple bulging and sitting on the knife like a popped, black cherry. Blood sputters around Feyd's clenched fingers and laughter has faded from his lungs at once. He digs deeper as the guard draws in gurgling breaths, bubbles of air swimming in the blood around the metal.
The relic freezes like a mouse, glued to the spot as if she might turn invisible to the cold eyes of the beast who wears her lover's clothes. He looks nothing like Feyd-Rautha now, his features empty and alien with eyes that don't feel and hands unfazed by the death that stains them in thick, inky streams that roll down his victim's neck.Â
This is how the universe sees him.
Feyd's blade slashes sideways, spraying a half moon of blood across the corridor and when the guard stumbles, he falls back into the na-Baron's knife, adding a vertical gash to the horizontal one, tip sinking into the flesh under his jaws, and with a jerk - up into his tongue.
The man grunts, still clinging to his life by a thread, and lurches forwards without drawing his sword. His head falls on Feyd-Rautha's shoulder. Feet shuffle in a grotesque waltz and Feyd's bloody fingers slip around the taller man's neck, holding him there while his blade plunges into his belly between armor plates so deftly, he could find all the weak spots blindfolded. The body slackens, weighing down on Feyd-Rautha whose ichor dripping fingers aren't ready to let go.
Shuk! Shuk!Â
Is the sound of his blade sinking into soft flesh and viscera, whipping back out with a spray of blood and entrails.
The Bene Gesserit may have proclaimed her human, but the adrenaline that sets her nerves ablaze is a gift from her ancestors, animals, because that's what humans are at the end or the day when facing a bigger predator.
Fwump.
Feyd looks her way, the dead body dropped, and blood covers his hand like a shiny glove of ink, dripping down the blade tip in a drizzling stream. The light catches on the sharp edges of his alabaster skull and all she sees is a new, terrifying breed of human, birthed by a world of poison and decay. There are millennia between them. They may share the same DNA but that doesn't mean he is not an alien to her.Â
In the end, the man from her dreams is not the man of her dreams.
Out the door? - Blocked! Death!
Off the balcony?! - Death!
To the Sarcophagus then. To her gun.
She turns and sprints, feet skidding over the shards of her rose-colored glasses, but Feyd pounces, a beast hungry for carnage, and catches her around the waist, hurling her backwards with the strength of three men. His blade clatters to the ground.
"No, wait. No. NO! NO! You can't go," he howls. "You cannot leave me!"
Wailing, she thrashes in his grasp and slams her elbow into his guts, her foot against his shin, then his crotch and the soft flesh there is squashed by her heel. When his hold slackens, she twists away and bolts, bare toes slipping across icy marble, but blood-smeared fingers find her shoulder, tearing on the fabric. She throws herself away from him so hard, the seam starts coming apart, so his other hand flies to her throat, steel-hard fingers curling around clammy flesh, yanking her around and against the wall.
She can't be looking at him like that, like he's the devil. Like he looks at his uncle.
Desperately, his lips search for hers but she jerks her head to the side, bites, scratches, nails burrowing into his throat. No is the word that Feyd-Rautha raps out between violent kisses that seek her pulse point with his tongue and teeth, no, she can't ever leave him, no, not ever, even if she hates him like everyone else. Her fear poisons the sweat on her neck and her nails don't egg him on, they hurt. He takes a knee to the guts and his lungs pop open for a harrowed cry.
Pain used to be pleasure but everything hurts, she doesn't love him anymore. One more meek and quiet final 'no' as he abandons the assault on her neck and his slackened arms wrap around her middle, hiding his face from rejection in her shoulder's soft flesh. Tears drip hotly, finally. All day and all night he's been waiting for the cathartic downpour, but not even the most pitiful plea could rouse a sliver of empathy in the hollow of his chest. Now he bawls like a baby forgotten in its crib and his blood-soaked hands seek purchase at the back of her shirt.
The woman grows still, nails still wedged inside the bloody crescent indents in his neck. Her lungs ache when she draws a trembling breath and Feyd-Rautha's hard, heavy chest moves with her, no more fight left in him. Quietly, she cries with him and curls her arms around his round shoulders, holding him there as he clings to her like an abandoned child and sheds tears for all the hurt and all the fear.
The man of her dreams is still there, somewhere, under the alien shell, vulnerable, weeping.
"You hate me, don't you?" A broken sob.
Looking over his head, the dead guard's viscera glitters darkly on the hallway and she is surprised to realize that even now, she doesn't hate him.
Feyd continues: "This is why I never wanted you to know who I am. I am awful."
"You're not awful," she whispers, fingers slipping around the back of his head, nails rimmed darkly by Feyd's blood.
"I have to be awful. I was born to be awful."Â
"That's not trueâŚ" He was groomed to be awful.
But Feyd isn't finished. In a fashion of now or never, confessions spill out of him like poison rain. "I killed my mother when I was four. I don't remember why. I killed my pets. I kill men for sport. I kill people for fun. I kill because it's the only thing I can do. Yesterday, I-" His voice breaks. "I killed anyone I could find and no one fought back. I lo-o-ost count."
A full glass can't get any fuller when pouring more water, so shock and disgust are lost to the acceptance that has smoothed over the crescendo. They're just information to be added into a folder in her head. Feyd killed his mother. Feyd kills people for fun. Still, she holds him, fingers sliding up and down the back of his head as his shaky sobbing turns breathless and ugly.
"Okay," she whispers and rests her cheek on his head, exhaling softly so her warm breath fans his scalp. "For fun?"
"Ye-e-es."
"So, you had fun last night when you-" She swallows. "Killed?"
"No."
She lets out a thoughtful hum and Feyd's grip on the small of her back tightens. Still, he doesn't dare look at her and tears and snot have soaked her shirt. With her emotions currently defective, her ability for logic is still sharp, and so she concludes, it does all make sense.
Her poor Feyd, a current had pulled him under when he was barely a child and then layer after layer, he has been building his armor so as not to drown in the maelstrom of abuse. With every kill, a little boy has been screaming for help in an empty room.
Soft lips press a kiss to the crown of his head and Feyd's breath trembles in her hold, a beast tamed by a loving caress. That's all it takes.
Just because she understands his actions, doesn't mean she endorses them.
"Will you still be my wife?"
"I haven't decided yet." Another kiss so gentle, it taunts the corpses stacked up in the processing hall.
"So, we're no longer engaged?"Â
"I don't think we ever were, not to me. But that doesn't mean I don't love you."
Dizzily, Feyd-Rautha raises himself. If not for the fingers twisted into his woman's shirt, he might just topple back into the spinning vortex at whose edge he is teetering now, one foot in heartbreak, the other in salvation. Blue eyes crack open, rimmed with dark blood vessels. She doesn't flinch, doesn't bolt, only her hands slide to the front of his suit and slip under the lapels, thumb rubbing where his heart hammers.
Feyd sees the tracks of dried tears on her cheeks and the shadow of horror tucked away in the corners of her eyes in a way that is all too familiar to him. More than anything, he wants to delete the images from her head and close the door, kick the blade under the bed, pretend it never happened. He tried to do everything right, got her flowers, hid her away in her own room away from state matters, made love to her with all his heart, but at the end of the day he is still who he is when he can't hide within a dream and it'll never be enough.
"Feyd, is⌠Is Lilia okay?"
"Yes, she is," comes the earnest reply and she exhales shakily, head sinking against Feyd's chest, arms sliding around his waist beneath the suit where his skin is burning hot.
"Thank God." Her voice warbles, the only warning before her knees give out and every other muscle along with them. The pair sink to the cold, hard ground. "I just want to go home," she sobs and crawls in her beloved's lap which is still the only place in the cold, hard universe that soothes her soul.
Not her sarcophagus, although it is tempting to freeze herself up again and sleep forever. No, it is still him. A new home, not what she had imagined, but a home.
"Me too," Feyd sighs and squishes his cheek against the top of her head, closing his eyes to envision the bedroom of their shared dream, blue pillows, a white bed, a softly rustling fern in a terracotta pot, her in his arms. Home.
How easy it would be to demand of him: 'If you kill one more innocent, I will leave you!' But she might just kill more than she saves that way, and maybe him too, and maybe herself.
"Feyd, can you-" She sniffles. "If you get angry again, please never hurt Lilia. And whoever the new guard will be, donât hurt him either. Can you do that for me please?"
"I promise." He squeezes her tight, eyes screwed up so tightly that he sees only dizzying stars. "I love you. I'm sorry."
She cannot fix the whole world, but she can start where she can see. It's not a solution, but a sapling, and a sapling can grow.
Mother Father How did I end up here, stone bound? All I feel ist the striking distance to the clouds My flesh is fettered on the skin of the soil But even so I almost reach the sparks in the void Sailing through the vacuum, am I drowned or alive?

Why did you start shipping Bunny? What made you realize their characters had a certain dynamic you enjoyed?
Alright, story time.
My best friend is the one who introduced me to South Park and they started out by showing me select episodes from season 4 and forward, and around the time we were at like season 10ish they informed me what like popular ships exist in the fandom. Namely Creek, Style (I had already seen Tweek x Craig, it was actually the first SP episode I ever watched lmao, and I could kinda see why Style was a thing because they're best friends with lots of moments that CAN be read as romantic), and Kyman (I could also see why it was popular lmao) but when they mentioned Bunny it surprised me. Like these two characters barely/never interact on screen, but my friend just said "Trust, you'll see why later in the show." Instead of waiting to see why later in the show, the idea infested my brain and it clicked anyway.
At first it was just vibes, they seemed sweet and compatible. Let's over-articulate the "vibes" a little further; Keep in mind these are all conclusions I was able to draw about these characters pre season 14 (Pre "Coon & Friends", pre "The Poor Kid" and pre "Going Native".)
These two come from opposite ends of the family trauma spectrum; With Kenny it's neglect, with Butters it's an overly controlled/sheltered environment.
Butters is a yapper, Kenny is a patient listener.
Butters gets cut off/belittled very often for his yapping whereas Kenny isn't one to judge or dismiss.
But Butters isn't the kind of yapper who just likes to hear himself talk; he engages a LOT with whatever someone tells him, and always takes his conversation partner seriously. Kenny is rarely asked for his input, he's rarely ever even referred to directly in a room full of people, but rather just a spectator.
Based on this, I could see Butters rambling to him directly and give importance to Kenny's input and opinions, something we rarely see with anyone else. Funny that this was even confirmed to be true in season 16's "Going Native"
(idk these are just instances that kind of prove to me how Butters values & respects Kenny and his side of things, by either outright saying so or just referring to him in conversation and asking for his input that I rarely see anyone else do. This even gets driven super far in the vaccination special where Kenny is just completely and utterly patronized by his best friends & treated like their child)
So all of these things, without ever even having them seen interact, just made it make sense that these two characters were very compatible in a healthy and sweet way. They both have heavy trauma, but the ways that they cope/express themselves likely wouldn't be triggering for the other. Rather they'd kind of be good for each other to heal; Butters is the least apathetic character in the show, so he wouldn't ever make Kenny feel ignored or neglected. Kenny has seen & lived through enough shit, making him incredibly unprejudiced, he'd never even think to make fun of any of Butters' quirks he's been punished and belittled for.
As I got to the Coon & Friends trilogy and "The Poor Kid" and the whole Kenny lore bomb, something about the two of them being the most tragic characters in the show just kinda fucked my head even worse.
Picking that apart; it was kind of this underlying fact that Butters would believe Kenny about his deaths BECAUSE he's so naĂŻve and gullible. Again, Butters would take Kenny seriously and value his input and emotions, he'd be the ideal person for Kenny to finally relieve some of the burden he's forced to carry alone. Matt and Trey are cowards for not making an episode about this like c'mon seriously it doesn't even need to be romantic
I'm not gonna get further into "Going Native" right now, mostly because the episode speaks for itself, has been probably talked about most in the fandom and kind of confirmed a lot of the things I already assumed about these characters (but if you'd like me to pick it apart feel free to send another ask), so instead I'm gonna tell you why I started going insane over them on a fandom level. Funnily enough, it was the Style-centric fic "The Scenic Route" by Hollycomb.
The coolest thing is Hollycomb actually published The Scenic Route BEFORE "Going Native" aired, and the way that they handled these characters and their relationship still fucking blows my mind. Dude, they're not even the focus of the story. They're a side story. A background ship. I'm not saying the main storyline isn't entertaining lmao but the Bunny background storyline was probably just so much more my taste I think? Especially how imperfect and messed up it started out, continued and went on. It implemented the canon fact that Kenny did kind of just not care about Butters and how his fucked up parents treat him, just like the rest of the town. Like Kenny is kind and all, but he can also be very apathetic and indifferent, and there's lots of instances in canon where the other boys treat Butters like crap and Kenny just watches it happen.
(Episodes: "Good Times With Weapons", "Marjorine", "Cartman Sucks", "Butters' Bottom Bitch" and "The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs")
(mind you, they're also just 9 year olds though lmao)
The way Hollycomb wrote how Kenny slowly started caring and falling in love with Butters even though he initially just intended to use him for venting about his own problems just stuck with me so hard. Like yes. That makes so much fucking sense. Kenny needs someone to take him seriously, and he doesn't need that person to be someone he cares about. He picks the easiest person available. But the slow realization that he's started pitying, then caring, and then deeply loving and wanting to help and save this person? That shit hit the SPOT.
Anyways, what I'm saying is that this fanfic was the reason I started thinking about possible ways they could get together and stay together, a lot of them messy and tragic and every bit wholesome as it is entertaining and fucked up. Kenny and Butters' traumatized asses finding comfort in each other is just something that became so special to me. I started out reading & writing Style, but whenever I tried to craft my own fics I'd always be thinking so much about what Kenny & Butters were doing and what their story is until I thought "damn dude why aren't you just writing about them instead". and thus I fell down the rabbit hole. enter chaos plan lol
This is such a tiny part of why I love these characters and why both of them separate AND their dynamic is incredibly comforting and interesting to me, and I haven't even mentioned anything about the many foil/parallel narratives around these two; Kenny & Butters as Kenny's replacement. Mysterion & Chaos. Princess Kenny & Paladin Butters. Philanthropist Dr. McCormick & capitalist scammer Vic Chaos. Especially the last one what the fuck I could write my bachelor thesis on Post Covid Bunny.
Thank you so much for the ask, anon. I'm so happy I got to ramble about my favorite little assholes <3333

how seventeen react to your family treating you badly
requested by anon. no one should ever have to go through something like that, i promise you, even if you feel as if it is partly 'your fault' for being too kind. never feel bad for being kind.
notes: tw for emotional manipulation, exploitation. emotional abuse is never the victim's fault. please let someone know if you feel like someone/yourself is in danger.
masterlist
seungcheol, hoshi, mingyu, seungkwan
probably ends up confronting your family when you go and meet up with them. you two have gone to meet your parents a few times, but he's begun to notice how they always seem to expect you to wait on them in small ways, even though you are their guests. finally snaps when you go to your parents' house for dinner one time, and it turns out they were waiting for you to come over so that you could cook dinner for them. grabs your hand and storms out of the house in anger, before calming down in the car and apologising for making a scene. he'll tell you sincerely and firmly that you can't let your family walk all over you like this, even if they're your parents, and pinky-promises you that he'll help you learn to recognize this exploitation and help you stand up to these things.
jeonghan, wonwoo, woozi, minghao
he's been sitting there in your parent's house, watching the way your family tells him stories of your childhood. but oddly, they all seem to center around your incompetence, clumsiness, or any little mistake you've ever made. he's incredibly upset, and when he pulls you aside during a quiet moment in the evening, you don't seem to notice how strange that is, thinking that's just how parents normally talk about their child. he realises then, how your family have been exploiting your kindness, belittling you whenever they can bc they know you'll brush it off as normal. as you're leaving your parent's place, he's the one to tell them privately, and incredibly seriously, that their behaviour is unfathomably damaging. he doesn't care if they scoff at him for weighing in his opinions as an 'outsider'. as soon as he thinks you're ready to find out, he's going to take you far, far away from these people. emotional manipulation and exploitation is never the victim's fault.
joshua, junhui, dokyeom, vernon, chan
brings it up to you in the gentlest way possible, sitting down with you one quiet afternoon and asking if you're okay with how your family is treating you. he'd never do it at your parent's house, unwilling to startle you with sudden information, but he explains how it all looks from an outsider's perspective, telling you softly that no, it's not normal for the people who are meant to love you the most to take advantage of you and show their 'love' only when they want something. he'll gradually show you everything you've had to put up with that isn't normal, respecting your wishes if you want him to stop talking. he understands if you get mad and defensive, because this is proof of your family's conditioning, and he'll hold you as you cry. waits for you to make the call for action, and wants to know how you want to deal with this. and if you want his help, he'll tell you exactly how to stand up to them and promises he'll be by your side the entire time.

ableism in mha
okay so i was scrolling and i came across this post and it helped me reorganize a lot of thoughts ive been thinking sense i first started mha. ive always been not a fan of izuku getting ofa in the first place as it felt to me as it almost completely erased any meaning of his backstory. it felt like such a plot armor/mary sue moment but in the end i got over it, assuming that most likely he would loose it at one point (i was right but we'll get to that later).
after he enters UA its almost as if his entire past is just like- not important?? i have plenty of hcs about his suppressed trauma and if you read into a lot of the situations he goes thru in the manga i can see it but is not blatantly said/expressed that he struggles with a complex from how he was treated as a child.
in the end mha becomes a manga mostly focused on some sort of version of not judging a person by their cover. The fact that a technically "villainous" quirk does not make someone a bad person.
now ofc this is totally true. no one should be overlooked or declined rights or decency because of the quirk they have. this lesson is a valid one.
the analogy i have made up in my head is this.
people who are born with "hero-like" or "useful" quirks, for example: bakugou, todoroki, hawks etc are beautiful people
(for the context of this metaphor ignore the fact that beauty is complex and is in the eye of the beholder just roll with me)
and then you have the people with "useless" or average quirks that are just average people
and then you have people like toga or shinsou with quirks that are seen as inherently dangerous. quirks that are unable to be used for good. those are the ugly people.
now obviously we shouldnt discriminate people just because society says they are ugly. there is no doubt in that and it is a tragedy that it happened and still happens.
however
20% of the population cannot even fall onto this scale. the quirkless. aka the disabled. they are not even seen as being worth a label on the scale because they are so disgusting and strange that no one wants to remember yhey exist.
i wouldnt be as upset by the lack of talk about quirkless people if izuku wasnt quirkless, if the first arc of mha wasnt izuku struggling with the fact that no one in the world cares about him but his mom and that not even her believes he can achieve anything because of his disability.
the whole set up was izuku wanted to be a hero DESPITE his disability. even though truly he thought it was impossible. he didnt work out, he didnt try and do anything to become a hero because he believed everyone was right. that what society had been telling him his whole life was true and he couldnt be a hero. but he wanted to despite that. that was the hook of mha. at least for me.
a bullied lonely boy with a disability achieves his dream despite society. despite being told at every turn that he couldnt do it. he said he can and he does.
but thats not what happened at all.
instead some pillar of all that is heroic drops down from the sky and magically cures his disability. and suddenly hes just a normal kid.
and suddenly we forget all about midoriya izuku and how hard it is to be quirkless. how much quirkless people struggle. how many of them must commit suicide because of yhe seeming completely normalized harassment of them in everyday life.
and i dont want to blame izuku for this because in the end hes a kid with trauma who just wants to fit in. its frankly quite obvious that he whole heartedly agrees with bakugou and everyone else from his past that yeah quirkless people are useless.
the way he treated Melissa in the movie broke my heart. he belittled her like it was second nature and while he obviously had no malicious feelings toward her because of her quirklessness he sees her as a second class citizen. hes surprised that she is able to achieve things despite her disability. that she manages to be happy in a world where she isnt "normal".
and again in the long run i dont truly blame izuku for feeling this way. like everyone he is a product of his environment.
again, however:
i do blame horikoshi
do we need to be nicer to people with villainous quirks: yes ofc
but your manga isnt about that. your manga is about someone whose seen as even less than that. you can address both issues.
having bakugou break down about izuku becoming quirkless was good but that was pretty much all we got.
and what happenes when izuku looses ofa?? he gives up on being a hero.
how the hell does that make sense
everyone in japan knows this boys name. he is considered a top hero. and he just drops off the face the hero scene?
hatsume exists??? izukus face has been in her boobs TWICE for gods sake. yaoyorozu can make things out of thin and are they had to wait 8 years.
izuku is too smart to not think of that.

Any advice on how to be less controlling as host?
Hey, Iâm the host of our system, and Iâd like to think that Iâve made a lot of progress in not being as controlling over my fellow alters. For me, the things that caused that shift were:
Therapy and outside support. Our therapist has had a huge positive influence on our system. He really encouraged me to start viewing my alters as people with wants, needs, and desires of their own, rather than just aspects of my own identity for me to dictate and control how I wished. I really learned to start viewing my alters as both parts and people, and learned that I was no more important than the rest of my system due to his guidance and advice. Our partner system also was really helpful with this, as she took a keen interest in getting to know my parts and asking how they felt whenever I made a big decision. So having that outside support was really helpful for me.
Noticing when I was being controlling. Our system functioned for a very long time with me lashing out at my parts to keep us masking and safe. This may have been necessary when we are a child in physical danger, but as an adult in a safe place, it became a maladaptive coping method. So the first step in changing that was just trying to notice when I was being controlling or when other alters got scared around me. I asked my parts to be honest with me when they felt like I was unfairly influencing their decisions. I didnât try to consciously change my behaviors right away⌠I just spent time keeping track of when I was causing harm.
Asking myself âhow would I feel if I was being treated the way I treat my alters?â How would it feel to not be able to play the games I wanted, pursue my passions, dress how I wished, engage with other people on my own terms? How would it feel if someone was micromanaging me and forcing their own say into many aspects of my life? How would I feel if, when I tried to do what I wanted anyway, I was belittled and shouted at? Not good. Not good at all. This was a huge eye-opening moment for me, and I was able to start making small changes after I realized how my controlling nature has been affecting my alters.
Talking to my alters. I tried to get to know them for who they are, not who I wanted them to be. I tried to have an open mind, and to the credit of many of my parts, they were patient and understanding. They told me about their roles, their identities, their ideas about the world, their goals and wants. They reminded me that we each had a purpose in our system, myself included. We had lots of conversations just trying to start over and get to know each other as individuals. Eventually I apologized to every part I could access individually for my past behaviors. I still wasnât perfect and I definitely slipped up sometimes, but I was making real progress.
Attending in-system meetings. As soon as we started having them, I did my best to remain focused and present. It showed me a whole new side to my system I had never really considered. During our meetings I got to really understand the complexities and unique differences between us. It made it easier to compromise. It made it easier to humanize my alters, who I had spent many years treating like trash. It made it easier for me to step back and listen to them (I tried to make a concerted effort to not speak, only listen, during meetings at first).
For me, coming to terms with my trauma history was also important. In the months and first year after our syscovery, I was adamant that we had no significant trauma history to speak of. Being in denial of my trauma made it easier for me to deny the validity of my alters. It was a really difficult road, and even now Iâm not aware of the full scope of the trauma we endured as a child. But I know and accept that we suffered, even if I donât have access to those memories. And accepting my systemâs trauma, accepting my status as a survivor, and understanding how trauma has impacted the whole collective⌠that also helped me step back and let my alters live their lives in the ways they want. We formed to protect each other. We are a team, and itâs important for us to care about each other. Itâs not their fault they exist. Itâs not my fault either. But theyâre here, they do exist, and they deserve to heal and live their lives on their own terms just as much as me.
Damn this got long. Iâm sorry. Thereâs just a lot that went into me being able to change my attitude and behaviors towards my parts. At this point I can say with pride that Iâm just one of the guys, and it took a lot of effort and hard work to reach this point. Idk if everything that worked for me will be applicable for you, but I hope something could be useful. Sorry if you werenât able to get through this whole post due to the density. But there was a lot of stuff I felt I needed to say on this topic.

your angst satisfies the part of me that loves to hurt my own feelings :,) i was wondering if you could write another argument fic? maybe including florence pughâs âstop it youâre being meanâ line from little women?
i feel like she's lacking.... but i dont know where.
âIf weâre really being honest here, honey, I donât think thatâs what itâs about, at all.â
Peter could be real condescending at times.Â
âOh, please let me know what Iâm thinking, you love to project it!âÂ
âYou do this all the time! You always start something when itâs really about another, but youâre too chicken shit to say it!âÂ
âLook out! Here comes the fucking hero, donât worry itâs his kink to fix everything so youâre endowed to him forever!âÂ
That just cut deep for him, itâs one to call him out, itâs another to attack his character.Â
âThatâs a low blow, even for you. Itâs not my fault you canât say sorry, you know you were wrong.â Peter pointed at you with each statement.Â
He was right, it was a low blow. But heâs not making this easier, you know youâre wrong but if you admit defeat he will get to wear this prideful smirk that would make you rather suffer through the fight.Â
âMaybe I could admit when Iâm wrong if you didnât get so amused by it.â You cross your arms and blink toughly, Peter frowns a little.Â
âI donât do that,â his tone is taken aback, and maybe if you werenât so self involved at the moment you could see Peter was done fighting, it had moved off topic and now you were just pummeling him.Â
âOh yes you do! You love when I say Iâm wrong cause then you get to wave your arrogant little face around!â Why are you doing this? Itâs making it worse, why are you treating him this way? Youâre only hurting him further.Â
âYouâre getting off topic, weâre not talking about me right now.â Heâs trying to fix your derailment, also save himself from more beratement.Â
âMaybe we should, cause now that weâre talking I have some things to say.â This was coming from nowhere, why were you so upset? It was a fight over nothing, even Peter called it, it wasnât about that at all.Â
âDo we have to do it now? When youâre all riled up from me being upset with you, and you know youâre going to say things youâll apologize for later?â Peter does have reasoning, and he is right, but why does he always think heâs right.Â
âYeah! Because, because, youâre entitled.â You point at him like a child.Â
âHow am I entitled?âÂ
âYou think youâre always right! I can never disagree or hold my own opinion, you just command and expect me to do. And youâre always making those judgy eyes at me, like right now! You think Iâm wrong right now.âÂ
Peter sighs, âyeah, I do. We should take a breather, maybe take some space.âÂ
You scoff, âyup, typical Peter. Let's just run from our problems like you always fucking do, because our problems are not our problems, you make them my problem.âÂ
Peter just canât help but blink at you, heâs about to walk out. He doesnât know if that's treacherous territory yet.Â
âY/N, you really need to cool it.âÂ
Somehow his calmness makes it worse, heâs playing chill because he knows heâs right. Maybe thatâs what it is.Â
âMr. Know it all is here! He knows whatâs best for our relationship at all times, he better keep me in line! If he doesnât all these other guys can take me from a puss-âÂ
His voice is loud and sharp, the extremely rare tone he takes up with you.Â
âStop it, youâre being mean.âÂ
And somehow that works, you werenât being angry, you werenât defending your space, you werenât protecting your own back, he wasnât spitting fury back, you were just being plain olâ mean. And for what?Â
Your tone is taken aback, you nearly stutter.Â
âAm I?âÂ
Gruff tone, still upset. âVery.âÂ
âIâm sorry, I donât know why.âÂ
âNo, I think you do.âÂ
âI was wrong, and I knew it. And so did you, and I didnât want to give you the satisfaction of being right. You always win the fights, I never do.âÂ
Peterâs shoulders slump, âyou donât win fights by hurting and belittling your partner.âÂ
You blink at tears, you just berated him and you feel bad? Get it together.Â
âI didnât mean it! I promise, I was just making shit up.âÂ
He leaned up against a wall, âI gotta be honest, baby, that doesnât make me feel better. You didnât even believe what you were saying, you just wanted to hurt me.âÂ
Peter backed you into a corner, he was right.
You shake your head back and forth, âI know. Thatâs really, really shitty on my end. I wasnât thinking right, I donât want to be mean towards you, ever.âÂ
He looks you up and down, you do look downright apologetic, you look like you feel terrible.Â
âGood, do it again and Iâll cry. Now come give me a hug, meanie. Â

ę§đĽâ˝đŤâśâđŚ˘ââśđŤâžđĽę§
You sit on the patio of your home, feeling as though youâre rotting away.Â
Itâs been 5 days since Adamâs full blown out tantrum, but it feels like itâs been 5 lifetimes.Â
A cockatiel lands on your table, its bulging inky eyes staring at you, vying for your attention.Â
You laugh, and give it some crumbs of your leftover toast from breakfast that you couldnât bear to finish.
The bird eats them graciously, and flies away, you watching enviously.Â
Oh, how you wished you were that bird. Carefree, and not trapped in the gilded cage that you are in.Â
If onlyâŚÂ
Bzz bzz
Your phone rings. The contact Mom glows on your screen.Â
Unwillingly, you swipe right.Â
âHey mom, what's up?â This woman never calls you, unless there are three instances; she needs you to get her something of monetary worth, wishing you a happy birthday/any other significant holiday, or-
âDarling, there's something I need to talk to you about. A little birdie told me that you've been stepping out of line recently~âÂ
Ah yes. The third instance. The times when your actual fucking personality shows, even for a sliver of a moment, and how it could potentially hurt your ârelationshipâ with Adam.Â
âMom, it's not that big of a deal. I just was feeling rough recently, and-â
âWell it doesn't matter what you feel does it? What matters is that you honour our family. Being married to Adam is what's best for you. You acting outwardly is seriously jeaprodising your relationship, and I am just trying to help you stop before it's too late,â Your maternal figureâs sing-song-like voice turns sharp in an instant, like it could cut through butter.Â
âYou were always a wild child, a disappointment, I am trying to help you-â
You interrupt.Â
âHow are you helping?! Belittling me, treating me as some sort ofâ some do Ill?! I have tried, given my whole entire fucking life, trying to please you in every way, but somehow, it's never enough! And when I do fuck up, suddenly I'm a failure in your eyes?!âÂ
Silence.
âYou better mind your language young lady,â
âNO! I will NOT mind my FUCKING LANGUAGE. I will swear when I want to, and I will do whatever I FUCKING WANT! I AM DONE WITH YOU AND YOU- YOUR WAY OF THINGS!âÂ
You press the end button, calmly.Â
You storm up to your bedroom and closed the door. Calmly.
You look at the bookshelf, always so perfectly clean, scarce of dust.Â
Perfectly clean, no imperfections.Â
You let out a cry of irritation and just start throwing out books, ripping the pages of each, crumpling sheets of paper, sobbing hot angry tears while doing so.Â
When that was done, you just bring the entire bookshelf down with a bang, and you stomp on it until you feel a sharp pain in your foot, surely that's a splinter right there.Â
You stumble over into your bed and scream and cry in your pillow, amongst the mess.
You submerge yourself in your pillow even more, until your anger numbs away, leaving you with a throbbing pain in your head.Â
Absolutely drained from your outburst, you drift off.Â
ę§ęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽę§
Everywhere is foggy.Â
You look around, looking for anything of use, when your attention is turned to a glowing light, placed on a rusted pedestal.Â
Since it's the only thing that piques interest, you touch the fluorescent ball and yelp when it scorches your hand.
âOw,â you pull your hand away and decide to look for anything else.Â
As you trek through the nothingness, you feel like you're being tugged down by an anchor, or treading through quicksand.Â
Suddenly, the ground gives way under your feet.Â
Youâre falling.Â
The cold air whistles through your ears.Â
You try to fly with your wings, but nothing; it feels like they have been ruthlessly ripped from your body.
You feel as though you're being stretched, squished and deformed like play dough, until you hear and feel something cracking. As you fall, you look towards the light.Â
At the entrance of the hole, there are many, unidentifiable figures, just, staring at your downfall.Â
You want to scream and cry for help, but it feels like your mouth has been cemented shut.Â
A faint noise calls your name, which sounds closer and closer each time as you fall helplessly.Â
You make a successful-ish attempt to turn on your stomach.Â
In your horror, you see a halo, cracked and muted of its previous glow. Your halo.
Not that far below you, there are hot red coals.Â
Oh God.Â
The voice becomes louder and closer and you hit the ground with a scream.Â
You jump up, to find yourself back in the dump that is your bedroom, slicked with sweat.Â
âOh my God, Y/N! Are you alright?â Emily, who was tentatively paving the way to get to your pathetic self.Â
âEmi, hi⌠Yeah, just eh, rough day,â you smile weakly at the Seraphim, whoâs concerned expression shows that she doesn't believe you, but she doesnât want to put you under pressure.
âWhatâs all of this?â Emily motions to the wrecked room. Â
âAdam pulled a tantrum again?âÂ
âHuh? Oh that, nono, sorry uhm,â you pause to clean the room as it was with the snap of your fingers.
âWhy are you here Emi? Do you need something?â You wipe your eyes, but your bloodshot eyes are still apparent.Â
âNo, I just wanted to hang out with you, but I can come back if it's a bad time,â The Seraphim stumbles over her words as she looks up at you, slightly flushing.
âNo, no you can stay. Iâm just a little bit shaken up, but yep you can stay. UhmâŚ.â you trail off.Â
This place is feels really constraining
You need an escape.Â
âHey Emily, wanna go on an adventure?â You put on a face of newfound enthusiasm. The Seraphim just had that effect on people.
âOf course! But er, where?âÂ
âShh, it's a surprise, now let's go!â You push Emily into the portal you made and go in yourself.Â
ę§ęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽę§
âWoah, this is what it's like?â Emily says as she looks around the hellish landscape like a lost puppy.
She snaps out of it when you drag her out of the way of a thrown carcass headed towards the both of you.Â
âYeah, let's head inside,â You manoeuvre her into the hotel.Â
The lobby is more populated than your last visits to the establishment, though all faces are familiar.Â
âEmily, meet Angel, Husk Alastor, Charlie, who you know already, and-â Your voice dies down in your throat at the sight of the Demon King, with his strapping jacket and top hat.Â
What is going on with you today?Â
âAnd Lucifer,â You motion to the King, who gives you both an acknowledging nod.Â
Your heart misses a beat.Â
âWell uh, there's one more but I don't know where she is⌠WOAH NIFFTY!â
The little scamp runs towards the Seraphim with a knife about to stab her with malicious intent.Â
âNiffty, no. No stabbing any more angels we talked about this,â Angel grabs the knife from the housemaid and throws it in the trash can.Â
âUgh, not a bad boy,â Nifty grumbles and begrudgingly rushes off to god knows where.Â
âWell everyone, this is Emily, not sure if Charlie has told you about her but-â
âIs she your kid?â Angel asks.Â
âIâm sorry, what? Oh no, no she is not my kid pff,â you say.Â
âHuh,â
âWell as I was trying to say, Emily here is another person on our side,â You give Emi an encouraging squeeze of the shoulders.Â
âWell this is quite the improvement. Salutations! Pleasure to meet you,â The radio demon greets himself, extending his hand to shake Emily's.Â
She takes it, though cautious.Â
She turns to Charlie and warms up to the amicable face.Â
âHi, Emily, er obviously you know who I am,â The princess of Hell welcomes her, as some of the other Hotel residents go off doing their own thing.Â
âOh yes. Y/N told me about you, obviously we've met before, but under less casual circumstances,â Emily scrambles for conversation.Â
Obviously, they need a little push to loosen up with each other.Â
âCharlie, maybe show Emily the garden? Or maybe the entire hotel for that matter. Emi here has been dying to have a look around,âÂ
âOh yes! Let me show you some of the suites, I decorated them myself,â Filled with giddiness, Charlie beckons the Seraphim upstairs. Â
Emily turns to you, unsure.Â
âGo on, don't worry, I'll be waiting here!â You give her a persuasive smile and shoo the pair upstairs.Â
Now you had some time to killâŚ
âHey!âÂ
âAgh!â You jump at the voice of Lucifer.Â
âGeez, am I that scary?â He laughs and puts a hand on your shoulder.Â
âPff as if-â You snicker and give him a playful shove back.
âAnyway, how've you been? How's the old rusted machine been?â
âAre you always going to make digs and remarks at my husband in an attempt to get all three of his wives in your pants?â You raise an eyebrow sarcastically.
He sighs, feigning sorrow. âYou know me too well. I thought it was the perfect plan, but clearly I'll have to tune it a bit,â The demon rattles on, but your brain fixates on the one word he said.Â
Perfect.Â
Something you try so, so hard to be, but apparently isn't enough for your mom.Â
If your mom doesn't love you as you are.Â
Well, what's to say anyone can?Â
âWell, what do you say, Butter-Duck? You have to find a nickname for me, but I'll call you that regardless, hmm?â
His question brings you back to the conversation.Â
Which, leads you to ugly, fat tears.Â
Luciferâs face contorts into panic.Â
âWait, I'm sorry, it's was a rubbish nickname, sorry I thought it was funny-â He puts a comforting hand on your shoulder.Â
âNo, no it's not that,â You rub your eyes, your voice croaky.Â
âThe reason is quite silly, really, it's fine, I'm just being stupid hahha,â
Lucifer is not convinced.Â
âListen, you helped me out the other day, and even though I'm not good at this comforting stuff, please, at least let me listen,â He gives you a weak, gorgeous smile, one that is enough to make you stop crying about.Â
Okay, it's really becoming an issue of you being distracted byâŚ
Him.
âWell, just an argument with my mom; basically just her saying how much of a disappointment I am and-â your voice creaks.
âAnd?â
âAnd I suddenly just donât feel like her daughter,just a burden she has to put up with, and then whatâs the point of all of this if you're not perfect,âÂ
And breathe.Â
You put your face in your hands.Â
âIâll never find love,âÂ
âHang on, but isn't Adam your husband? Don't you love him?âÂ
âNo, I don't. It was a marriage purely organised by my parents. Completely transactional,â you mutter dejectedly.Â
âShit, that really sucks. Listen, I know it's hard to hear, but you need to hear it. Nobody is perfect. No one. That's what makes people interesting. And your mom wanting you to be that is far from perfect of her. Not sure if you're aware, but we're in Hell, right now, amongst many people who are basically morality rejects. But you, you're a Winner. Not in the physical sense, but also metaphorically. And for what it's worthâŚâ Lucifer takes a moment to mull over his next words.Â
âMany people love you, like Charlie and, that Seraphim, Emilia?â
âEmilyâ You amend.Â
âAnyway, that's besides the point. The point is that you have many people that adore you, and that's what matters most,â Lucifer comes closer and stiffly puts his arms around you, which you return.Â
âThank you, Lucifer,â You sniffle into his shoulder.Â
âNo problem, anytime. You are my friend after all,â He gently smiles.
Your heart flutters. Friend? As in, person he considers more than an acquaintance?Â
âSo, what's this about a Butter-Duck?â You tease.Â
âWhat? I thought it'd be a cool nickname for you,â He huffs.Â
âAlright, alright⌠Let me think of a nickname for you then⌠Lulu!âÂ
He grimaces. âUgh, that sounds like a name for a baby products brand!â
âOddly specific, but if it annoys you more, all the better!âÂ
âUgh, you're like worst than some sinners here I swear,âÂ
âWho said Angelâs can't be jokesters too?â You give him a wink.Â
He coughs, a rosy red complexion appearing on his face.
ę§ęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽâââťâšâťââęĽę§
Emily and Charlie come back into the lobby, to you and Lucifer making small talk on the couch.Â
âReady to go?â
 Emily nods. She goes to hugs Charlie, which is reciprocated.Â
âWell, Iâll see you around?â You squeeze the demonâs king hand.Â
He looks at you, and nods, hesitant to return the gesture, as if you were glass.Â
âYes, I will,âÂ
As you and Emily leave to make your way back to Heaven, you could've sworn you heard Lucifer whisper three words.Â
âI love you,âÂ
You turn back with a questioning expression, but all that was on his face was nonchalance.

Calling To The Moon
Overhaul x F!Reader
Warnings: Child abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, death, slight gore, suicide, mentions and implications of self-harm, dead dove do not eat
A/N: This is probably the saddest shit I've ever written. I know I've said that before probably, but I'm serious this time. It took me a whole month nonstop to finish this. I wanted to make it perfect for you guys and just simply for myself. I'm very proud of this fic, and it took me so long to get it to the point where I was confident with the writing and editing. This fic is VERY long, and I mean VERY LONG. It was a whole 25 pages in Google Docs and has 9,603 words in it. I really hope you guys like and it would mean the world to me if you could tell me how I did. I hope you guys like it and enjoy <3
~~~
The atmosphere in the base has never been so cold. No matter what, every room and hall felt colder than the arctic sea. Both temperature and emotion wise. Youâd ask your husband to turn up the heat, but he was always busy and seemingly never in a good mood. Which only added to the cold feeling. Summer or winter, it was always cold. Even colder when youâd guys have an argument.
Arguing with him was hell. Heâd talk over you and say such hurtful things. Belittling you and ignoring whatever you had to say. In every argument, he stood victorious because you just wanted his horrible words to stop. Heâd bring up things that heâd promise to never tell a soul. Yet there he was, using your past against you.
It feels like your chest is getting ripped open every time you do. The times heâd spit his venom when he wore his mask was terrifying. You could see a danger in his eyes, like how a lamb fears a wolf. You hated feeling this way. He was your husband. He shouldnât be scaring you and threatening you. But here you were.
He never did it in front of other yakuza leaders, which is why you enjoyed the meetings so much. He'd act as lovingly as someone like him would during a meeting. These times would remind you of why you married him. How'd he act like he was proud being next to you. Telling you he loved you in ways only you both know. It was amazing while it lasted. The feeling of being wanted.
After 8 months of being married, though, he started to change.
Heâd never sleep in the same bed as you anymore. You donât know if he moved to a different room or if he slept in his office. You've searched your brain for anything but can't think of a single reason as to why he would just up a ditch you like that.
It really crushed your self-esteem. Having your once loving husband act like you were so disgusting. Looking at you like he does his enemies no matter what you wore or done. You tried wearing what used to be his favorite thing to see on you, but he completely ignored you. Acting as if you didnât exist.
Then, heâd look at you with loving eyes that made you forget how he treated you only moments before. When that horrible mask and ugly jacket were off, he'd look at you like he did before you had the ring on your finger. It was times like this that kept you right by his side. No matter the horrible words his other side spilled.
But the mental toll was soon piling up, one small feather enough to make you crash down.
With the mental toll overflowing, it caused feelings youâve tried so hard to bury to resurface. Times to before you met him. Parts of your life that you wish would burn away from your memories. But, the physical scars you carried only worsened it. You hated yourself, hated the loneliness that crushed you. Hated the way your past haunted you.
All these made your life unbearable. No matter what medication, no matter the âself-careâ people would recommend, nothing made you feel complete.
All your âfriendsâ left you as soon as they saw how dark you truly felt inside. They called you a âdebbie downer.â So no matter what, they left you to decay and continue their lives without you. You remember thinking that there was no point. No life in your light to scare away the darkness. Then, you met him, and everything changed.
But that was then. Now, you were feeling the darkness creep back inch by inch as you sat on the compound's couch.
The sterile scented environment contrasted greatly to the smell of tea in front of you. The only light was the moonlight shining through the windows. The room felt once again so cold. Hopelessness filled you as sleep still seemed so far away.
âYou guys seem like such a happy family. I donât see why all this happened.â The cop stood in front of the couch where you and your mother resided. You on the far right arm and her on the left. You desperately tried to put as much room as possible between the two of you.
âI'm sorry, officer. My daughter was just having an attention episode. Sorry to take your focus away from real problems.â Your motherâs response was smooth and calm, but you knew what hid behind them. Her stone mask always failed to deceive you, as you knew her best.
You were no fool. You knew she would severely punish you as soon as the officer left. It was just comical, really. How you were stuck in such a position in the first place. It happened only hours ago, yet it was still fresh in your mind like a burn wound.Â
âIs this abuse, huh?!â The look in her eyes was so terrifying that you still see it in your nightmares. Her nails dug into the back of your neck, and you felt her nimble fingers squeezing your throat. Your heart seemed to stop at the reality that this was really happening. The way your mother held your throat as you went to pry it off. Although, it ended as soon as it started. She whipped her hands away from you and gave you one last death glare before stomping toward her room.Â
Tears poured down your face as you took deep breaths, trying to gather the air that your lungs craved harshly. The feeling of her fingers still wrapped around your neck made the helplessness inside you explode as you started frantically searching for a bag.
The sunset illuminated the room as you managed to find a bag before shoving anything you could into it. Clothes, phone, charger, things that held emotional value, anything you could fit, you brought.Â
Stepping out of your room and into the hallway, you feel scared. Worrying that youâll turn the corner and see your mother standing there with that look in her eyes once more. But to your luck, she was nowhere to be seen.Â
You turn towards the door and stare at the handle. It felt as if a strong force was holding your body still. Grabbing all the strength you could muster, you shakingly move your hand towards the door handle, opening it silently. Gently, you moved your feet out of the house and shut the door as quietly as you opened it. The wooden deck creaked below you as you tried to walk across it. Your heart beats in your ears as you bite your lip in anxiety. Being caught right now was something of nightmares. Yet, the sound of dirt crunching beneath your shoes made you let out a breath you didnât know you were holding.
Then, you ran.
You ran down the driveway and onto the dirt road that held yours and many other houses. Your shoes crunched against the ground as dirt flew behind you as you ran as fast as your legs could carry you. The sound of rocks hitting the earth fell on deaf ears.
The trees surrounded you and cheered you on as the wind rustled their leaves. Cold air enveloped your body as your cursed yourself for not wearing a jacket, but it didnât matter. How your body ran gave your body enough heat to survive for now. Adrenaline pumped through your veins, and all you could think of was running. To run till you collapsed or reached your grandparents only a few miles away. Youâd finally be safe and wanted there.
The sun set faster than you imagined, and the once beautiful sky was soon replaced with stars that called you. Telling you to come visit them. That youâll be safe there. The urge to reach for the stars was crushed as red and blue lights surrounded you and the trees. They hid the stars above you, and the feeling of loneliness once again encapsulated you. Tears threatened down your cheeks as you heard a manâs voice tell you to get in the car. Saying that heâs taking you home.
What was back there was no home to you.
You got into his car without a fuss despite the urge to fight. The way back to your hell was quiet as the cop said nothing to you. The back seat of his vehicle was cold and unwelcoming. Dread filled you as you pulled up to the place you had run from only hours before. The image of your mom standing on the deck haunts you as she waits for her âattention-seeking daughterâ to come home.
âWhy are you crying?â A light voice ripped you from your reflection of the past and brought you back to the present. With blurry eyes, you try to make out the voice that called out to you.
âI just had a moment. Sorry, you had to see that. I thought everyone was asleep.â Wiping your eyes, you blink away the remaining tears as you finally catch a glimpse of the man in front of you.
Youâve never seen him before.
âWho are you?â You couldnât help but be suspicious.Â
âMy names Gushiken Taro. I just started today, so Iâve yet to meet everyone.â
âOh, that makes sense. Well, my name is Chisaki (Y/N). It's a pleasure to have you here at the compound.â You sent him a welcoming smile. His voice seemed so young. From what you could actually see of him, he still looked like a teenager or had the body of one.Â
âYou must be Overhaulâs wife, I assume?â God, you hated that name. Ever since that name had left your husband's tongue, your life has been nothing but constant dread.Â
âYes, that's correct. May I ask how old you are?â
âYour much more friendly, I have to say. But Iâll be turning 19 in a few weeks.â You couldnât hide the shock on your face. His age would be the same asâŚhis.
âThat's so young! How did you get caught up in the yakuza so young?âÂ
âItâs a long story, haha. But why is the leader's wife crying at midnight?â You didnât know what to say, so you just answered his question.Â
âI couldnât sleep. I justâŚget emotional when I donât sleep.â
âUnderstandable. Iâd love to chat more, Mrs. Chisaki, but I must find my way out of this maze and back to the exit. Itâs so late, and I must go home. Itâs dark, so it may take a while.â
âI can help you to the exit.â
âReally? Are you sure?â Standing up, you grab your tea and hold a smile on your face.
âIâm sure everyone deserves to be helped.â
âThank you very much. I shall follow you.â You nodded as you led him towards the exit, making small conversations along the way. A familiar feeling to protect slowly crawled back.
~~~
Despite being so close to another human being, your husband no less, you still felt so cold. You tried to ignore the goose bumps that littered your arms, but you still let out a shiver on accident.Â
âHey, Overhaul, your pretty wife over there is shivering. Why donât you give her your jacket, huh? Take care of a special thing like her.â The gruff voice of an older man cut through the air. You saw the leader of the farthest clan looking at Kai with an eyebrow raised. His hair was white, and his skin wrinkled, giving you the impression of him being in his late 60s or early 70s. Reminding you of your own grandfather.
You were shocked, to say the least. No ones ever mentioned you in a meeting before. Well, not in the way where they asked your husband to do something for you in front of everyone. A warmth spread across your face as the feeling of happiness made a small smile appear on your face. Itâs been a while since anyone, including your husband, has called you pretty or special. You felt appreciated even if it was by someone you didnât know.
Shooting your husband a quick glance, he caught your eye before you saw a frown appear from behind his mask. You said nothing as you expected the air to continue to nip at your skin and youâd stay cold, but you were pleasantly surprised when you felt familiar purple feathers surround you and block your vision. The heat of his body that was once trapped in the coat now surrounded you. Snuggling up in the warm fabric, you send a kind smile to the old man who sat in the back. You felt like your husband's love surrounded you for the first time in months.
A flash of white appeared out of the corner of your eye. Moving your head slightly, you ignored the men around you talking. A familiar figure stood by the door. You send the man a subtle wave and smile at him. Your smile grew bigger when the man sent one back.
~~~
 You started walking back to your room, a skip in your step as your husband's jacket still hung on your form. His purple feathered hood surrounded your face and tickled your nose as his scent covered you. The smell felt safe and made you feel so sleepy. What you wouldnât give to sleep with your husband's scent again. Feel as if he was actually lying next to you.
â(Y/N).â The stoic sound of your husband's voice broke you of your small fantasy. You knew what was gonna happen. He was probably going to ask for his jacket back and then degrade you. Taking a deep breath to build up your walls, you spin around to look at him, smiling as you try to show a confident front.
âYes, love?â his shoes echoed against the walls as he moved closer towards you. You tried your best not to shake in anxiety, not knowing his next move.
âGive me my jacket.â You take it off and give it back without even batting an eye. The cold coming back to attack your uncovered skin.
âAnything else I can help you with-â
âIâm not letting you come to the meetings anymore.â You look at him, shocked, as you try to piece together what made him make such a harsh decision so quickly.
âWhat? Why?â
âObviously, you're a distraction to the real tasks at hand. I donât want people paying attention to you when there are more important things to focus on.â With such small words, you feel your walls start to crash.
âAll he said was that I was cold! You didnât have to give me your jacket. You could have continued talking.â He looked at you like you were some stupid little girl. A look you knew all too well.
âIf you had a brain, youâd see that thatâd be a bad choice. If I want money, I have to make them trust me.â
âOh, so fake being nice to your wife is a way to get respect and people to trust you?â His sharp eyes turned to daggers as he looked at you.
âI donât have time to talk to you. Iâve got more important things to do.â
âGood! Because I also have more important things to do than talking to you asshole.â You turn around to stomp away but feel a firm grip wrap around your wrist. He aggressively dragged you to your room before closing the door and making you face him. Your husband's golden eyes bore into your own. Despite the fear that infected your blood, you tried to hide it.
âWho do you think you are to talk to your superior like that.â His voice low, and the grip on your wrist turned bone-crushing.
âSuperior?! Kai, your my husband! And let me go! You're hurting me!â His grip on your wrist only got tighter, and you felt a stinging sensation erupt from his fingertips as his gloves disintegrated in front of you.
âItâs Overhaul. Kai is dead.â Your eyes blew wide at his statement. Confusion wracked your body as you searched for an answer.
âOverhaul?! What the fuck are you talking about Kai-â A horrific pain shot through your arm that Kai so aggressively held. Tears spilled harshly down your face as you screamed in pain. Red liquid covers your body as you try to grab the now missing appendage. Searing pain causes you to lose your footing as your salty tears fall on the ground.
Then, the pain stopped.
Your body trembled as you felt your once missing arm now back where it should have been. The sensation of losing something so important still puzzled your body as you tried to grab a sense of what had just happened.
âIt's Overhaul, donât make me tell you again.â The sound of his footsteps leaving your room haunted you as the door closed. Your lungs seemingly couldnât get enough air as you tried to gasp and heave at the horror of your husband doing something he promised never to do.
~~~
âWhat could you possibly be depressed about?! What made you so sad that had you scratching yourself with a pencil till you bleed! Fucking pathetic, doing it for attention, arenât you? You wanna see real cuts?!â The way your mother grabbed your wrist had you wincing in pain as she put your hand on fresh yet scabbing cuts on her arms. Her eyes tearing into yours as she moved your hand across her skin, yelling at you the entire time.
âThis is what real depression is! Not your pathetic attempt at attention seeking. God, your so useless! Not everything is about you! Have you ever thought about how I feel?!â
You didnât know how she found out. You tried everything to keep what you were doing to yourself a secret. Cause you feared what would happen if she saw your freshly open wounds on your arms.
It was the only thing that made you feel better. It took away the pain you felt inside and moved it to where you decided to dig the graphite of your pencil into your skin. The pain it caused numbed the pain you felt inside. It gave you something else to pay attention to. Sometimes, youâd dig the pencil even deeper into your skin, feeling like you deserved the pain you were causing yourself and what you felt inside.
You deserved it, you deserved it, you deserved it repeated in your head as you cry into the dark of your room, scratching the barely healed scars on your arms. Looking up at the ceiling, wondering what you could do to make the pain disappear. Youâd cry into your pillows as the feeling of those fresh cuts on your mother's arms still tingled against your fingertips. Dry blood smeared on them with small spots under your nails. Holding your hands together, you look outside at the moon, crying for it to take you away.
You could see the moon shining through the small bathroom window. You got an even greater view with the window being wide open. The crescent moon reminds you of cartoons you used to watch when you were young.Â
Candles surrounded you as the lights were turned off to try and calm yourself down. To relieve the anxiety and fear that had been coursing through your veins ever since yesterday. The bath was so warm and inviting as it convinced you to stay longer. To ignore the pain that still ghosted your heart. You didnât dare leave your bathroom or room, fearing what Kai-Overhaul, would do.
It was such a numbing feeling. Knowing your husband put his hands on you after promising he never would. Breaking a promise, he told you âheâd rather die than break.â
Obviously, it didnât mean anything anymore.
Your heart constricted as you looked up to the moon, begging for answers. Asking what youâd done to deserve this? Asking what you could do to get rid of the numbing feeling that overtook you. To feel something other than emptiness. To escape these all too familiar feelings.
Just then. A shiny glint caught your eye at the rim of the tub.
~~~
The sound of the screaming kettle let you know your tea was finally ready. Grabbing your favorite tea cup, you walk towards the steaming kettle.
Putting your cup on the tray, you grab the kettle before pouring it over the strainer filled with green tea leaves you had already set up. The tea goes into the teapot underneath it. A smile on your face as these times were one of the only times that brought you any sort of happiness. This used to be your husband's favorite, and he quickly had you hooked on it. The smell filled the kitchen with a homey feeling.
You put the teapot on the tray and some tea snacks before you make your way to the living room, only to be stopped by crashing into something immediately. The sound of everything hitting the ground made you cover your ears.
âOh shit, Mrs. Chisaki, Iâm so sorry!â The familiar voice of Gushiken filled the kitchen.
âIt's okay. Things happen. It was an accident.â Looking down, you see the tea everywhere, and the teapot shattered into seemingly millions of pieces. Alas, your teacup was nowhere to be found.
âI managed to save the cup, if that means anything.â The man hands you the still intact cup. A breath of relief left your lips as you held the cup tightly, afraid it might drop any second.
âPlease, let me help clean up. Itâs my fault for not saying I was approaching.â You let out a laugh as you set your teacup away before you crouch down to pick up the broken pieces of what was your least favorite pot anyways. As long as your cup was fine, you were okay.
Making piles of glass, you and him gently grabbed them and threw them away. Mopping up the spilled tea and throwing the tray away in fear of Overhaul throwing a tantrum.
âHey, what happened to your arm? Did some of the glass get you?â Looking at your arm, you see your long-sleeved shirt exposing minor cuts along your arm. Freezing up, you quickly lie.
âOh! I guess. I didnât even notice.â
âWell, can I help wrap it up? My sister was a nurse, and she taught me a few things. It's my fault your hurt anyways.â guilt plagued your mind at his words.
âIâŚokay.â
~~~
You sat at the kitchen island and watched as Gushiken wrapped up your arms with care. Much kinder and soft than Overhaul has been with you in so long. A feeling filled your body as he tended your wounds. You felt cared for. Like you were worth something to someone.
âThere, you should be okay. Just make sure to change it and keep it clean to avoid infection.â
âI will thank you so much, Gushiken.â
âCan I ask you a question? It's kinda personal, so you donât have to answer it if you donât want to.â
âUm, sure? What is it?â
âWhy does Overhaul never have you around? He seemingly avoids you life your the plague, and every time your name gets brought up, his brows furrow in disdain.â It was a really personal question he asked, but you were surprised no one else had asked you it earlier.Â
âI donât know. I couldnât tell you who the man you see before us now is. This man isnât the man who used to treat me like I was worth more than any jewels heâd gain. He is no longer the man who called me beautiful every chance he could. Heâs not the man that asked me to marry him.â Tears brimmed your eyelids as you did your best to avoid crying. You didnât want to look all red-faced and red-eyed in front of Gushiken.
âI donât understand. Did a switch just flip inside him? Was there a fight or something?â His confusion was shared as you didnât understand your husband's reasons either.
âNo. Just one day, instead of the black mask he used to always wear, he wore the one that now adorns his face. The one that causes fear to anyone that looks at it. Then, he seemingly turned into a whole other man.â You felt your throat constricting as you try to talk without hiccuping.
âIâm sorry, Mrs. Chisaki.â The remorse he expressed in his voice made your body shake as you lowered your head. He couldnât see how affected you truly were by your husband's actions towards you. It wasnât his problem that your husband changed.
âYou should probably continue working. I donât want you to get in trouble.â Your voice cracked as your lips tremble.
âBut-â
âPlease.â With a sigh, Gushiken got up from the stool he sat on.
âAs you wish, Mrs. Chisaki. I hope you feel better soon.â His footsteps soon ran out of earshot as you simply looked at your knees. You could feel your tears fall on the clothing that covered them. Your problems were your own. Someone as young as him should just be worried about other things. You regret letting your emotions get the best of you and talking about it.Â
Not wanting everyone else to see your tears, you get up from the stool and walk down the empty halls toward your room. Not looking up from the floor.

It was easier to fold laundry with music playing. It helped keep your mind out of all the negative thoughts that plagued it. You made your own little playlist that you liked to listen to during times like this. One specific song you always looked forward to.Â
The song that played at your wedding that he danced with you to.
Speaking of said song, the familiar tune soon emitted from your phone. A smile spread on your face as you stopped folding laundry and started to dance along to the haunting melody. Imagining you werenât dancing alone.
âYou look gorgeous, my angel.â His words melted your heart as you looked at the man in front of you with love.
âAnd you look so handsome. I could stare into your eyes for eternity.â His gaze was so soft, and just being near him made you feel so calm. So safe. Knowing that as long as you were with him, heâd protect you till his dying breath.
âI donât know how I got so lucky to find you. What did I do to deserve you?â
âI couldnât imagine myself with another man. You're the only person thatâll forever have my heart.â Your heart thumped inside your chest as you felt him place his forehead against yours. His voice turned into a low hum as the tune matched the song that played around you. You couldnât help but join along as you danced together, never wanting it to end.
âIâll love you till my dying breath, my angel.â
âIâd walk around the world just to be with you. Through hell and high water, Iâll never stop loving you.â
The gorgeous melody that once played was soon replaced with another one. Your memory of so long ago tearing your heart in two. Memories of a better time where you were wanted, where you were loved. It haunted you like a ghost no matter what. His ghost haunted you, a ghost of who he used to be.
A ghost youâd still dance with if given the chance.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
âHello?â Who could be knocking? All the precepts were on missions, and Overhaul was in a meeting.
â(Y/N)? Itâs me, Hari.â
âCome in.â The door opened with a creak, and a familiar masked man emerged.
âI just came to-â
âTake off the mask.â
âHuh?â
âTake off the fucking mask. I see it enough every day, no matter where I go. All I ask is to see the real face of a friend.â A second hesitation before he unclasped the mask to look at you. The face of an old friend finally back.
âYou look so much more attractive and friendly without that dumb mask.â A chuckle left his lips as he smiled lightly at you. It reminded you of when you, Overhaul, and Hari would sit outside in the sun and enjoy each other's company. Talking about god knows what.
âI just came here to escort you to Overhaulâs meeting. Other Yakuza leaders have actually been worried about you.â Your eyes widen at his words.
âReally? ThatsâŚnice. Itâs been a while since someone has worried about me other than Gus-â You stop at your words, too concerned for his safety.
âGushiken? Yeah, Iâve noticed you talking to him. But donât worry, I wonât tell. Iâm just happy you have someone to talk to. Iâd be there, but-â
âItâs okay. I know âOverhaulâ has been running you ragged ever since he started his stupid âplan.â I donât blame you for not having enough energy. Itâs stupid how he pushes his best friend around.â You walk towards Hari, ready to leave the room. Without a word, you feel Hariâs arms wrap around you. Itâs been so long since youâve felt someone's embrace. You hugged him back, happy to be next to an old friend.
âIt may not mean much, but I care and worry about you too. Even if I donât have the time to show it.â You could feel his heartbeat against your chest, but you embraced it.
âThank you, Hari. That means so much more to me than you know.â
~~~
The meeting was almost over by the time you and Hari arrived. You didnât worry too much about it, though, as Hari told you, it was still almost over when he went to collect you. With a gulp, you opened the door to see everyone looking at you. You force a smile as you wave to everyone and greet them.
âAh, itâs so good to see youâre okay, Mrs. Chisaki. We were worried you had come down with something.â Your husband glanced at you before you lied.
âNo need to fret. Iâve just been busy with things in the family. Momâs getting old, and she needs someone to take care of her.â The term mom almost makes you puke in your throat. The thought of doing anything for that woman made your stomach churn.
âYou have such a caring wife, Overhaul. Iâm jealous.â With a chuckle, the old man speaks to your husband.
âYes. Iâm very proud and happy I married her. Sheâs truly an angel in disguise.â His words made your heart skip a beat. In pain or in love? You didnât know. It might have been something to appease the other leaders. Yet, hearing him say such beautiful words about you had you struggle to hold back tears and not jump into his arms. Tell him that you loved him so. The urge was shoved deep down as he called the meeting over which everyone seemingly agreed.
With each leader that passed you, you gently smiled and thanked them for coming. They all sent a smile as well while they exited the room. With that last one leaving, your smile left, and you have your husband who still sat in his chair.
âEveryone except (Y/N) leave.â Your body went rigid as a lump fell in your throat. You look at Hari, and he simply shrugs. You felt him grab your hand and run his fingers over your knuckles before whispering, âYouâll be okay.â. He walked along with two other members that you couldnât remember. When everyone was gone, you started to fiddle with your fingers to calm down.
âOverhaul is-â
âShut up, Iâm thinking.â You open your mouth to respond but close it just as quickly.Â
âI donât understand. Even without you, they worry about you rather than talk about the plan for a better society.â His brows furrowed as he stood up and walked towards you. Fear paralyzes your body as you watch him stop right in front of you. He moves his gloved hand to put the pad of his index finger underneath your chin. He moved your head up so you could look at one another in the eyes.
âWhatâs so special about you?â He looks at you with genuine confusion. It felt like it should have been more insulting. Your throat dries as his eyes pierce your soul.
âI donât know.â Your voice small.
âOther than you being pure and quirkless. There's nothing special about you.â Those words echoed in your head as you remembered how those words would come out of a monster that haunted your past.Â
âThen why marry me?â The words left your mouth before you could think. His eyes seemed to widen before going back to stone.
âI donât know.â His words caused tears to fall from your eyes. They clung to your lashes, making the man in front of you one big blur.
âWhat happened to you? What happened to my husband? My angel?â His hand moved towards your cheek and wiped away your tears. But why? Why would he show such a display of affection after all this time? Despite all your questions, he remained silent as his gloved hand had yet to move from your cheek. You wanted to lean into it. To enjoy such a foreign touch from your husband. But you couldnât.
âNoâŚI canât do this.â you turn away from his hand before running out of the room and away from his touch. You couldnât handle it. So much time since his last loving touch that it now felt wrong. It wasnât fair for him to play with your feelings like this. To treat you so horribly and then handle you with such care. Itâs cruel.
~~~
âThe moon looks so beautiful tonight.â Your voice cuts through the silence as you walk around the compound's roof. Once again, you couldnât sleep, so what better way to pass the time than look at the moon?
Sitting on the very edge of the compound's walls, you look up to the moon with a blanket wrapped around you. Your heart beating loud enough to echo through your head as a wave of sadness washed over you.
âEverywhere I go, I always end up hurting. Every step of my life has brought me pain. I finally thought he would be the angel to pull me free.â Your lip quivers as you try to understand why.
âI ran away to free myself. I moved to another country, and misery still followed me. Itâs like I can never escape. Like I was destined for pain and suffering.â the cold air whispered to you through the breeze, telling you something you couldnât understand.Â
âWhat other life did I live that caused this? Is there even a timeline where I can be truly happy?â The tears youâve been holding back finally started to blur your vision.
âThey always said things would get better. They promised. My grandparents, teachers, âfriends,â and doctors. They all told me to âgive it timeâ and âeverything will be in your favor.â Iâm tired of waiting!â You clench your fists as you look up to the moon. You were so angry. All the emotions youâve been bottling up soon turned into angry tears, the cracking of your voice evident as you try to speak.
âIâŚfeel so stupid. For thinking heâd be the cure I needed. The person to chase away everything I tried to leave behind.â The sound of footprints made you freeze as you snapped your head to look behind you.
âHari? H-How long have you been here?â Hiccups plague your voice even though you try to stop your tears.
âLong enough.â With a few more steps, he was sitting on the edge next to you. There was a few seconds of silence before he spoke.
âDo you wanna talk about it?â
âI wouldnât want to burden you with my woes. You already got enough on your plate.â
âYou could never bother me (Y/N).â
â...â Words seemed impossible as your heart beat against your ribs.
âHow about where you used to live?â
â(Country Name). I came here when I was 18.â Such a small question, but you knew that he wanted to know why you were sobbing on the roof.
âDo you come up here often?â
âIâve been coming more recently. The moon and stars always have comforted me.â
âThey are beautiful. I can see why you would.â The silence was awkward, but you enjoyed his company regardless.Â
âYouâve been bottling it up for a while, havenât you? Itâs okay. I understand. Talking about stuff like that isâŚhard.â
âThere's not many therapists that want to work for the yakuza.â Hari let out a chuckle, and you couldnât help but let one out as well. His laughter was always contagious.Â
âDo you have any family? I heard grandparents but nothing else. You donât have to tell me if you donât want to, though.â
âA brother and sister. Iâve never met my sister, but I grew up with my brother untilâŚâ Letting out a sharp exhale, you continue.
âUntil he ran away. I was 17, and he was 14. I saw him go to bed, told him I loved him, and went to bed. The next morning, he was gone. Heâs never contacted me, and even after all these years, I still canât find him.â Your hands shake as you look at the ground below you.
âIâm sorry. Would there be a reason heâd just disappear?â It felt like a breath caught in your throat. You havenât talked about her in so long. Your husband was the only one you told in deep detail about your childhood. Yet, when you look into Hariâs eyes, the care and concern that shine in them remind you of the day you told Kai. Youâve known Hari just as long as Kai, and if what he said earlier was true, then maybe you could get a small bit of the weight on your chest off.Â
âMy mother.â A deep breath left your lungs as you prepared yourself.
âMy mother wasnât known for her kindness. She had many problems. Weâd be here till sunrise if I went into detail.â
âYou can tell me whatever makes you comfortable. I promise.â
âThank you, HariâŚâ You sent him a small smile as you continued.
âMy father wasnât in the picture, so it was just my mother. My grandparents as well but only visits with them. The house we lived in was on its last legs. Lots of spots were decaying, and we didnât have the money to fix it. We didnât have the money for food either. Many nights, my brother and I went hungry.â You glance at the man next to you, and a look of sadness is plastered on it.
âShe brought a lot of strange people over. A lot we didnât know. I didnât trust any of them, so I ignored all of them and never let my brother out of my sight. Me and him were extremely close during this time, so his disappearance made it that much harder for me.â Tears spill down your cheeks, making them red as the cold air bit them.
âEverything was my fault. No matter what happened, I deserved the punishment and rage. Something so small could cause her to explode. Yet, I couldnât let my brother be treated like I was, so any mistakes he made, I took the blame. Iâm the big sister. My job was to protect and stillâŚâ
âNo one was there to protect you.â His voice was soft as he stole the words from your mouth. You scooted closer to him just to enjoy his company more and enjoy the body heat he gave off. Knowing he was there calmed you. Your head grew heavy as you just gently placed your head on his shoulder.
âShe called me many things. Things that you should never call a child. So many of her words still haunt me to this day. No matter what meds I took, I would still hear them like they were said seconds ago. Back then, I dealt with the pain by hurting myself. There were so many times I felt like I deserved it. Times where Iâd cry myself to sleep, yet nothing I did soothed the pain I felt inside. It was like this till I ran away.âÂ
âI lived on the streets here for a long time. I truly felt hopeless. Worthless. There were so many days where I thought about taking my life. I was an outsider who only spoke basic Japanese. An outsider without a quirk.â
âCanât imagine how hard it wouldâve been. Especially with how people treat the quirkless. Youâre very strong for pulling through what you went through. Itâs very admirable.â
âYou're just saying that.â You joke.
âI mean it.â A smile spread on your face as your heart started to calm down.Â
âBy some grace of god, I managed to get off my feet. I had a crummy apartment and a crummy job, but I was still thankful. Even though I was thankful, I still felt soâŚempty? Sad? Numb? Whatever it was, I wouldnât wish it on anyone. My job only paid enough for bills, so like in childhood, many nights I went to bed without eating.â You bite your lips as you try to stop it from trembling.
âI made some âfriendsâ at work, but they didnât last long. They didnât want to hang out with someone as sad as me. No matter the meds I took, I never felt complete. I felt like I was still missing something. It was like that untilâŚâ
âUntil?â
âUntil I met Kai. We were grabbing the same cleaning product, and we ended up talking. You know what happens after that.â
âYeah. You really had him by the throat for a long time.â You both laugh at the memory.
âWhen I told Kai about my past, he said nothing. Only held my hands. I somehow managed to gather up all my courage to show my scars. I was so afraid. Afraid heâd find me disgusting. A freak, but he told me that my scars didnât matter. That I was perfect to him. I remember crying. I fell so in love with him at that moment that I knew that he was the one I wanted to be with for the rest of my life.â
âMy favorite teacup was the teacup that I was drinking from when he proposed to me. He didnât get on his knees cause we were in the garden, but he asked me to dance with him. He asked me to marry him while we danced, and I still remember his tone that day. I thought right then that finally, after struggling for so many years, I was going to be happy.â Harsh tears spill down your face as those beautiful memories play through your mind. Pain that there was no longer a connection that used to be.
âIâm so thankful your still Kurono Hari. I donât know what iâd do if you werenât.â You heard a gulp come from the man next to you. The feeling of his hand being hesitantly placed on top of yours made your heart skip a beat. Yet, you made no effort to stop him when he intertwined his fingers with yours.
~~~
The day felt a little lighter than others. You didnât know why, but it was like a breath of fresh air. Talking to Hari a week ago managed to lighten your chest, but there was only so much that talking could do.
Heâs been checking up on you so much more than before. Heâd tell you good morning and goodnight no matter if he was running late. He managed to make time in his hellish schedule to talk and see you. It brought a smile to your face every time. He turned into a small light that you looked forward to seeing every day. Despite the sadness that still ate away at you, you were happy you had him to talk to.
While you were no chef, you wanted to make him something as a thank you. Which led you to where you are now. Drinking out of your favorite teacup while baking cookies. You hoped he liked chocolate chip.
âSomething smells good. What are you making?â Spinning your head, you see Gushiken walking up to you.Â
âChocolate chip cookies.â
âWhatâs the occasion?â
âFor a friend. Hope he likes them cause theyâre the only cookies I know I can make well.â You both laugh before continuing.
âHowâd you get so good?â
âIt was my brother's favorite. I didnât make it often. But when I did I took my time to memorize it.â
âWow. Lucky him to have a kind sister.â
âI was lucky if I got past the dough stage. Heâd always eat it. Iâll never understand how he didnât get salmonella.â Gushiken laughed.
âYouâd be the same age as him. Sometimes I see him in you.â You laugh to avoid the ache in your chest. It was true. Something about him reminded you of your brother. It could be his unusually happy personality. How heâd talk about his interests with such excitement. Not to mention he had the same hair color as him. That being said, you felt a familiar gut feeling to protect. To make sure no one would hurt him. Itâs been so long since youâve felt it so strongly.
âMy sister was like you too. Funny huh? When I first saw you I thought you were her! Then again, it was almost pitch blackâŚâ Laughing, you continue stirring the dough, almost finished.
âCan you grab me the cookie cutters? They're in the bottom left drawer.â Sending you a thumbs up, Gushiken went digging through the drawer. Grabbing some parchment paper and flour, you lay it on the counter so it's ready to cut the dough.
âFound them!â
âGreat, now wash your hands. I wonât be able to cut cookies all by myself.â That was a lie. Youâve done it before, but something inside you spoke before you thought. Maybe it was the hole in your heart that your brother left, trying to heal itself. Somehow, without seeing his face, the smile he wore managed to repair a small part.
The sound of water running and the rolling pin doing its job echoed throughout the kitchen.
âAlright! Iâm done!â Excitement was evident in Gushiken's voice as he stood in front of the flattened cookie dough.
âOkay, I need you to cut as much as you can. I lost track of time, and dinner will be late if I donât start now.â Without being told twice, He got right to work.
âWhat are you making for dinner?â
âKani salad with some fruits and whatever drink. Itâs one of Overhaulâs favorites, so Iâm hoping it will calm him down some.â
âI hope so too. Iâve got a mission he's putting me on tomorrow. A first real mission! Not some lame patrol thing or something that leaves me stuck in the base!â A twinge of panic hit your chest at his words. A ânew recruitâ only being here for five months and being placed on a mission? You couldnât help but be suspicious and extremely worried. Missions are usually reserved for people who have been here long and have shown their worth. A sinking feeling boiled in your gut.
âOh? Wow. Not many people get to go on missions this early hereâŚespecially not with someone as young as yourself.â You try to hide the uneasiness you feel inside. He didnât need to see you start panicking. Maybe overhaul got him mixed up with another recruit. Heâd been extremely overloaded with stress recently, so maybe he got something mixed up.
âReally?! So he must think I'm doing a great job! Thatâs perfect!â
âYeahâŚperfect.â
~~~
The uneasy feeling never left since you last talked to Gushiken. You desperately wanted to tell him that he shouldnât take the mission. But, he seemed so determined to prove his worth that you didnât have the heart in you to crush it in front of him. Plus, it was definitely a misunderstanding. No way Overhaul would put him on a mission so early.Â
You havenât seen Gushiken since your guys talk. Which would have been 5 days after today. It really bothered you not knowing how it went or how it was going. You wanted to ask Overhaul, but he'd probably say it was none of your business like always. Maybe you could ask Hari? Thatâs if you can catch him. Heâs even more busy than he was before! He says good morning, passing by you and running to his next task. How he hasnât collapsed youâll never know.Â
â(Y/N)?â The sound of the door opening made you look sit up from your bed. Hari stood outside with his mask hidden in his pocket. A distressed face looked back at you.
âOh Hari! What do you need? You seem upset?â You go to get up only to be stopped mid-action.
âI think you should sit down.â With your brows furrowed, you look at him before slowly sitting back down.
âWhat's going on?â Closing the door behind him, he hid something behind his back. Continuing to hide it until he sat next to you on the bed. He sent you another sorrowful look before pulling out a familiar mask from behind his back.
âIâm sorry (Y/N), but heâs not coming back.â Handing you the mask that should have concealed the face of Gushiken.
âI-I donât understandâŚWhere is he? This has to be a joke. A sick joke right?â You looked at Hari pleading that what he was implying was a lie.
âPlease tell me itâs a joke, Hari.â
âIâm sorry. Heâs not coming home.â Your heart stopped as you looked at the man in front of you with wide eyes. Tears soon pour down your face like a facet as you grip the mask tight. Begging this to be a horrible nightmare. You couldnât have another important person to you ripped away without a second thought. You should have told him how you felt, tell him not to go on that stupid mission. Now he was gone, and you failed to protect someone you cared about once more.
â(Y/N) there's a random man on the couch again. Heâs scary.â The sound of your little brother's voice broke through your slumber.
âReally? Hmm.â You struggle to understand why your mother allowed another random man into her home. Into a home she shared with her two children.
âHere, you can sleep with me. Does that sound good?â You sent a small smile to your brother. Without being told twice, your brother got into your bed. You felt the covers shift as he scooted closer to you. A quiet sigh left your lips as you held him in your arms. Making sure that he felt safe.
âIâll always protect you. Iâll never let anyone hurt you.â The moonlight shone through your shades, giving your room a comforting glow. A feeling as if you were shielded by the cruel world outside your bedroom door.
âI promise, that Iâll protect you till my dying breath. As long as Iâm alive, youâll never need to fear.â
âWhere is Overhaul?â
~~~
The sound of his office door bursting open and hitting the wall caused his thoughts to escape. He looked at the entrance and saw a fuming woman with angry tears rolling down her face. Her body shook as hatred flooded her eyes.
âWhat the hell is wrong with you?!â His words only seemed to fuel her rage as she stomped up to his desk.
âI could say the same! How could you send someone so young to go on such a dangerous mission?!â
âAh, you must be talking about that recruit-â
âGushiken Taro! That was his name!â You grit your teeth at your husband's words.
âHe was an expendable. We needed a distraction for the mission.â
âHe was a someone! He wasnât just some pawn! He was someone who had his whole life in front of him, only for you to sniff it out!â Slamming the boy's mask on the desk. Getting up from his desk, he looked at you with annoyance. Clearly, you were taking this loss to personally, and that mask you held didnât help.
âGive me that mask. Itâs making you unreasonably upset.â Your husband reached out, only for you to jerk it away quickly.
âDonât touch it!â A frown was evident from behind his mask as he tried again, yet failing.
âDamnit (Y/N)! Give me that fucking mask!â Taking off his glove, you held the mask tighter to your chest. You weren't gonna let him take away the last thing you had left of him.
âGive. It. To. Me. Now!â With another reach, you move your body to cover the body. As soon as his fingers touched your skin, a searing pain hit you. Every nerve explodes with excruciating pain. It felt as if every cell in your body was being pulled apart. The pain felt so long, yet it could have only been a few seconds before you felt your body quickly being put back together.Â
Your body hit the ground with a loud thud. You threw up from the sheer shock, and you could see a small amount of blood even through your teary vision. The mask you had just held dear right next to the door.
â(Y/N) I-I..â
âYouâŚkilled meâŚâ You saw him move closer to you, but you scoot away in fear, your back hitting the wall in the process.Â
âDonât come near me! Get away!â You cried in terror as your heartbeat echoed in your ears.Â
â(Y/N) Please, I-â
âYou really are a monster.â The man above you looked at you in shock. His golden eyes showing more emotion than youâve ever seen since your wedding with him. You stood up as you hugged the wall, trying to get as far away from him as possible.
âIt was an accident (Y/N), I promise!â You only shook your head as you looked into his eyes.Â
âFor all these years, months, and days, I told myself that you were my cure. That someday, the love of my life would come back to me. That one day, Overhaul would die, and Kai would come back.â Your voice shaky as the air in the office felt poisonous.
âBut nowâŚI see that I was a fool. A pathetic, weak fool who held onto false hopes. Trying to pick up the pieces of promises that you broke as you destroyed anything that got in the way of your plan. Destroying everything that the man I once knew would never think of doing. Even through that, I stuck beside you. Because I remember you telling me youâd love me till your dying breath. I was a fool to believe you. I was a foolâŚfor thinking anyone could fall in love with me.â Your body shook violently as you struggled to get air in your lungs.
âYou're so cruel. Telling me lies. Calling me horrible names. Hurting me. I-â
âPlease (Y/N) forgive me-â
âNo. Not anymore. I hate you, Overhaul, and I hate you, Kai Chisaki. I wish I never met you.â Without another word, you grabbed the mask by the door and ran out of the office. Your footsteps echo in the halls, along with your sobs.
~~~
Gushiken's favorite place in the entire compound was the cherry blossom that stood in the backyard. He said that heâd go there to relieve stress from the work day. Saying the falling petals were his worries leaving him as heâd look up to the bright blue sky.
Knowing that, you decided to bury what was left of him right beside the trunk. That way, he will always be at his favorite spot. Watching the petals fall from the beautiful tree and looking up at the sky for eternity. You could even see the other pretty flowers you planted on his grave from on top of the compound roof.Â
Hari was out on a mission before you were able to give him his letter. You poured the rest of the love you had to give into the letter. You supposed it was for the best. It makes things easier for him later. You hate to leave him without answers, butâŚ
A shaky breath left your lips as tears poured down your face. The wind blew them off your cheeks with each breeze. Its cold bite attacking your skin as your hair flowed slightly through the wind. The faint smell of cherry blossoms in bloom surrounded you.
Looking up at the night sky, you see the moon watching you from above. With trembling legs, you moved closer to the edge of the compound roof. You simply wished to get a better look. You reached your hand out as if to touch the moon. A smile appears on your tear-ridden face.
âFinally. After all these years, I can be with you, my dear friend.â With a final exhale of breath, you step over the haunting edge of the roof. For once, a sense of peace embraced you as gravity played its part and pulled you back down to the ground.
The moon and stars shined brighter as they danced around the new star in the sky, the long awaited friend of the moon.

actually, fuck it, i AM writing the essay, even if no one will read it.
my thoughts on penelope, how she sees herself, and why the carriage scene's ending is the most important thing in the whole wide world under the cut. and bridgerton season three part one spoilers, obviously.
penelope featherington hates herself. bit of a strong start here but, there we go. that's what you get when i'm going feral about her again at three in the morning. (it was eleven a.m. when i finished writing this post. i rewatched all four episodes of season three...)
i'll start from the beginning â she isn't a confident person. i think that's what a lot of penelope hate really comes down to, not relating to her in that way at all. not understanding what being treated the way she has can do to you. so let's start here:
imagine for a moment, no one fucking listens to you.
this includes her favorite people in the world. her family, for one thing, that's obvious, but her best friend, too. many times we hear eloise discover and re-discover what penelope's interests are in the series because, as she says, "i didn't really hear it." she was so frequently not really listening to her. they've been friends for years, but huge aspects of her friend's personality were completely unknown to her. this isn't anti-eloise by the way, i love her too, but we're adults who can admit our favs are all flawed people. the show wouldn't be nearly as fun if they weren't. eloise continues to belittle others for their interests when they don't match up to hers (like that poor girl who was just really passionate about embroidery) and she's done so to pen, however unknowingly, for ages.
penelope tried to beg marina to not fool colin into marriage. she had so, so many other suitors, so many other choices she could have made. all pen wanted was to not have her other best friend slash crush make that life altering of a mistake. but for this, she was called a child. immature. talked down to as if she knows nothing about the world. (she had been mostly right, by the way, in her insisting that george must still love marina, would still want to marry her, discovering that the letter had been forged. if he'd not died on the battlefield, penelope would have been the one to secure a happy ending for marina.) when she wasn't listened to then, she got more desperate, telling colin that marina was in love with someone else to deter him from the marriage while still careful to not ruin marina's reputation and expose her pregnancy in the process. she tried. but no one would listen.
so only when the situation became dire, she did the only thing that she could, and took matters into her own hands.
which brings us to lady whistledown.
it's interesting, really, that she chose that name. to specify lady so she might be taken seriously, yet not hide under a pseudonym completely removed from herself (i.e. using a masculine pen name or implying she's not a part of the ton at all) it's clear that lady whistledown is, for the most part, what penelope wants to and yet fails to be: someone who commands attention, who people admire and trust for an opinion, someone who gets listened to.
by the time we find her in season three, she's fresh off hearing her crush saying he'd never, ever court her, and her best friend finding out that she was lady whistledown all along and had exposed a secret of hers â only after penelope had, of course, also begged eloise to stop seeing theo, to stop raising the queen's suspicions, and was once again ignored. her only friendships have been destroyed, and she has resigned herself to a loveless marriage of convenience because she can't stand to be ignored, controlled, and belittled by her family any longer. she's ready to take the devil she doesn't know over the devil she does.
so, when i say her self confidence is on the floor, i mean it.
yes, a sliver of hope remains in her, and we can see that in her decisions (wearing parisian fashions, for instance) but her plan remains, she is simply going to marry someone, anyone, because she has to.
but even still, her confidence has not taken it's last hit.
let's imagine some more: no matter what you do, people are going to laugh at you.
penelope finally, finally gets her big moment. people stare at her as she enters the room. she still immediately hides herself in a corner because that's who she's always been, but still. she has a moment. not quite what she'd imagined, i'm sure, as she bought all new gowns, but attention and awe nonetheless. but it cracks almost instantly when her social awkwardness comes out, failing to get anyone to ask her to dance, and shatters completely when cressida destroys her dress before she can ever take to the floor.
colin tells her she looks nice, and her immediate reaction is "do not mock me, please."
it's only after this that she confronts colin about what he said, only after this that she speaks ill of him as lady whisteldown â not saying any more than what his sister had already pointed out earlier in the episode, mind you, that his change in personality seemed disingenuous â only after she has been publicly humiliated that she lashes out in her anger.
and, this anger, she also immediately regrets after colin has proven himself to be kind. it's a bit like making a snide comment online without the ability to delete it after.
but when penelope has hope, she is kind. she writes of the promising ladies of the ton and wishes them well with their matches, when she has hope she speaks positively of would-be spinsters and their successful marriages. many of her earlier musings in previous seasons were to call the women of the ton beautiful, to speak to their skills.
but hope for penelope does not last long. she manages to successfully speak to one suitor at the next ball (which, though this is another argument entirely, is backed by a string quartet version of "jealous" as colin re-approaches her at the drinks table â any arguments that his feelings start at their kiss isn't paying near enough attention) but the entirely true rumor about her having help from him spreads through the vine and penelope is hopeless once more.
and a hopeless penelope is a cruel penelope, as we've seen, and this time, she turns that cruelty inward, publicly. while she later says it would have been suspicious if lady whistledown hadn't commented, in truth, she has proven time and time again that her emotions rule lady whistledown's writings. in that moment, eyes tearful, she was embarrassed and ashamed of herself, she decided to say so. she repeats the same sentiment to colin when he comes to visit her:
"in truth i brought this on myself. a sad, stupid girl who believed she might actually have a chance at love."
and here is where lady whistledown continues to be someone penelope sees as different to herself, because penelope doesn't see herself as a lady. not just for lack of title â she does not see herself as worthy of or requiring protection. to call back to antony's season one romance: "every woman is not afforded such gallant protection." "every woman is not a lady."
she says nothing of him bribing her maid to give them time alone. like most of the ton she doesn't think the time they spend alone together could be anything other than platonic, at least on his end. they spent extended time unchaperoned at the bridgerton house and not once did she speak on impropriety. he'd been alone with her in the previous season and even when they were caught no one had a thing to say about it. no one questions it because penelope is not recognized as desirable, not seen as needing this protection, not seen as a lady. she is seen, even by herself, as a spinster already.
when she asks colin for a kiss, she reassures him that she would ask nothing of him for it, she would not entrap him in a marriage citing impropriety, she doesn't even think about whether someone might see. she does not care in this moment if she is to be "ruined," she only wants to feel some illusion of intimacy, some imitation of being wanted. even her running back inside immediately after, and the subsequent conversation under the willow tree, are further proof that she doesn't believe he could have kissed her for any reason other than pity.
and, even after all she goes through with lord debling, she is still not the only object of his affections. the entire time she pursues him, cressida is there, hot on the trail, ready to sweep him away on a moment's notice. penelope writes of their dance that his choice of her is surprising. though her feelings for colin have not simply fluttered away once debling's shown interest, her possible engagement to debling is on a wavering tightrope. not once in this can she feel wholly at ease with lord debling, only afforded a bit of security once he asks her mother for her blessing. and amongst this, her mother still belittles her, saying she should not become greedy for wanting to marry someone who actually cares for her.
she asks lord debling if he might ever love her, in all the years of marriage they may have ahead, and he says probably not.
and when colin breaks up her proposal, insisting debling isn't right for her, still penelope does not even consider, can not even conceptualize that it might be done out of jealousy. colin having feelings for her is laughable, she says as much, and it is the same thing she has been told over and over since the start. he chases after her carriage out of breath asks to be let in, gets on his knees and tells her he can't stop dreaming of her and she tells him "please. do not say things you do not mean." she cannot imagine that any of this is real. it is confusion that prompts her to repeat the agreement they had in episode one, "but, colin, we are friends."
and while an entirely separate essay could be written about the rest of the carriage scene, it is what happens the moment the carriage arrives at bridgerton house that stands out to me. they have this moment, colin asks "could the carriage driver not keep on driving?" and they both laugh, the way they always do with one another, and he fixes her dress (carefully, avoiding using a select few fingers as he does so) and they kiss again, and he gets out of the carriage.
and for a single, heartbreaking second, penelope's face falls, and she calls after him: "colin?"
it is so clear in her demeanor that she thought that was it; that's all she gets. the fantasy is over and it is back to reality. for a split second, she believes he is no longer hers.
for a single second, it's as though she thinks he is going to shut the carriage door on her, and walk away.
but he turns around, hand outstretched, asking if she'd like to come in. and she's once again confused, "what?"
do not say things you do not mean. do not mock me please.
and when he says: "for god's sake, penelope featherington, are you going to marry me or not?"
she looks so relived she could cry.
#bridgerton#bridgerton spoilers#i wanna add in here but id already gone on too long that her saying ''your family will see me'' also sort of implies that she assumed#they might sneak around and he'd keep her hidden because he's ashamed of her even if he did want to sleep with her#and he went no i want to show you off right now immediately and let's get married

Anakin: Why I relate to him
Iâm going to change gears a bit from my usual anime/Ben 10 posts to talk about Anakin. I had a period where I pretended to hate him and was super pro Jedi to try and fit in with that fandom. I have changed a lot of my opinions since then. While Iâm still not a huge fan of him, my opinion has softened greatly. A lot of Jedi stans act like all people who sympathize with him are conservatives who think you need a 50s nuclear family to be happy and hate Buddhism or aroace people. So I am going to share why I relate to this manâs struggles as a progressive, transgender neurodivergent Asian American.
A lot of people view Anakin in AOTC as just whiny and ungrateful. While the Tusken massacre was wrong, I can emphasize with his anger towards Obi Wan. I have felt belittled, over patronized and gaslit by my father, as well as yelled at. While Anakin was being disrespectful in that scene from AOTC where he reunites with Padme, the way Obi Wan handled it was uncalled for. He should have pulled Anakin aside to let him know thereâs a time and place for everything, not humiliate him in front of their hosts.
Iâve made small mistakes due to my autism and dad would make a big deal out of it and tell me âwe need to work on your awarenessâ in front of everyone there. I can also relate to that âheâs jealous! Heâs holding me backâ scene as someone who wants more out of life and feel like my dad is getting in my way. That scene also reminds me of how a lot of parents treat their kids for having an âattitudeâ or âtalking backâ when theyâre just trying to explain themselves, are having a bad day or have a different opinion. Iâve also been forced to apologize for lashing out at people whoâve bullied me like in that comic.
When Jedi apologists talk about how Anakin was just greedy for not wanting to share his feelings with Obi Wan or the council, I get the feeling that theyâve had a fairly privileged upbringing. Iâve had trouble opening up to my dad because of how dismissive or terrifying he could be in the past. As a trans person, Iâve had to prepare for the worst possible outcomes and while my coming out went better than I expected, he just invalidated all my fears and acted like I was wrong for not telling him when he did little to provide a safe space, never apologizing for insensitive things he said. Similarly, fans expect Anakin to tell Obi Wan about his marriage despite all the dismissive behavior from him as well as faking his death and doing little to help Ahsoka. People whoâve been gaslit or dismissed for their feelings often resort to keeping secrets as a safety measure.
A child shouldnât be expected to tell adults anything until they prove they can be trusted. Whenever I talk about my issues with my childhood, people dismiss it as legitimate discipline or tough love, which is another reason why I feel uncomfortable when Jedi apologists act like Kenobi was a good parent. People only see abuse if itâs physical or sexual, but never care or notice if itâs more subtle or emotional. Anakin recognized that Kenobiâs training methods wouldnât be good for Ahsoka which is why he acts more like Shmi when teaching Ahsoka. My dad is also very sarcastic and is aware of my autism, even praising it at times, but expects me to just understand his âjokesâ or insensitive comments.
People say you canât critique the Jedi because theyâre based off eastern philosophy but are they really that different from conservative evangelicals? Obi Wan straight up tells Anakin he can have romantic feelings but canât act on them. Fans claim Anakin chose to get married and it was on him for not just leaving. I remember being the âweirdâ kid in a community that was very conservative (family, faith and football) who felt like I couldnât talk about my interests without being shamed, especially after coming out. I can also emphasize with wanting to leave but feeling an obligation to stay because the people whoâve hurt me do love me and it being complicated.
I think a lot of people who dismiss Obi Wanâs insensitive remarks or child rearing methods are looking at it from an adultâs perspective, since they arenât bothered by it as much. Adults can yell at, gaslight, spank or humiliate their kids, then act like nothing happened, but when youâre a child, it sticks with you, and is irritating when they try to be âbuddy-buddyâ with you later. I am also someone who struggles a lot with sarcasm and struggle with letting go of negative emotions because it keeps happening.
This is that post I talked about where I asked a popular Jedi stan their views on adoption. Iâm not anti adoption, mind you. I felt Matilda, Suzume and Kung Fu Panda tackled it well with sensitivity. I responded with decency and acted like I agreed with them. But something about their response gave me the ick. I donât know why but I do have a desire to find my birth mother, eventually. Is it really wrong to worry about your mother if she could be suffering, and you canât do anything to help? It kind of confirms that a lot of Jedi apologists come from privileged upbringings. I also felt like I had to ask permission to enjoy media that went against the Jedi fandomâs beliefs.
I think that wraps up why I relate to this character even if I donât agree with his actions. People who say he was just lazy or selfish donât seem like they understand much about human psychology and abuse and how even âsmallâ things can build up and make a child distrust the adults in their life. I worry a bit about when they become parents and what how their kids will end up. A lot of kids are shamed for not wanting to share their emotions when they have good reasons to keep secrets. How would Jedi stans respond to that? They only care about abuse if itâs physical which is why they make a big deal out of that training scene from TOTJ or act like Anakin abused Rex when throwing him off that wall on Geonosis.

Do you think Mr Mosses belittled Francis for being too boring? That he didnât win in that competition? Could be baseball, art, anything? That he could never amount to anything for being so useless and talentless? Does he actually love his son? If he does, is it conditional? Was he sad that Francis cut all contact with him?
Has anyone in school bullied Francis for being too average? Does he not have any friends?
Not boring, but that he doesn't stand out in anyway or possess any trait Emeric (calling him that from now on, its official. But you can still call him Mr Mosses) deems good. Its not enough that he has a son who by all means was a perfectly good kid who just wanted to do his own thing without standing out, his son needs to be special and talented and gifted and Francis is none of those things.
I can see Emeric forcing Francis to join in various activities like sports or other type of competitions, and expect perfect grades, but none of them worked out and with each failure he gets angrier and more disappointed with Francis.
Do any abusive parents love their children? Maybe they do, but if its conditional its not love to me, its expectations that their children owe them something and if their children dont fulfill it, then they don't 'deserve' said parent's love. But people like Emeric can never not be abusive and unfit to be parents IMO. And even if Francis DOES win his affection or be the son he wants him to be, then Francis would then just fall into the 'Golden Child' role, which is yet just another abused children position but on the other end of the scale.
OHHH I never considered what Emeric thinks about Francis cutting ties with him. I think he'd be angry and surprised but not sad or remorseful, at least not at first. He hates his son and thinks he's a failure, so its no loss to him. But with his wife dead and no other family, I think later he'll start feeling regret and guilt over how he treated Francis.
I have thought of a scenario where Emeric went to the apartment to make amends with Francis but he, rightfully, doesn't want to talk to his father. No idea how he'd react, if he gets angry and makes a racket there are other people around to witness it.
I don't think Francis was bullied as kid, maybe a bit on the wallflower loner type where he gets teased a bit and largely unnoticed, but nothing worse. He did have a few friends but prefer to keep to himself (just like now, I guess)

New au!
Diamond Mirabel au..les get it
The candle didnât mean for this to happen, he didnât mean for Mirabel to be cast aside like a stepchild. How could Alma do this? How could the whole family do this? It wasnât right for damn sure!Â
Alma, her grandmother, whoâs of all people is supposed to love her. Thatâs not what she is, Alma basically acts as if Mirabel is just some girl in her house-no at least some girl would get a lot more respect then Mira does. An abuela is supposed to hold you, read you bedtime stories, tell you stories about her life. That all stopped after her ceremony.Â
The candle is very upset at his wife to say the least.Â
Julieta, her mother, isnât all bad but she adds to the problems. Yes, she and her agustin try to be there for her but it isnât enough. Why does the village matter more than your own child?...it's all under Almaâs influence. Still doesnât excuse Julie at all though. Isabela and Luisa, her sisters. Luisa, like her parents, doesnât really have time for her but does try her best. Isabela, however, doesnât try at all. All she does is belittle Mirabel or snap at her for just being in her presence.Â
Felix does try for his niece, Pepa acts as if she isnât there. Camilo does like to talk to her and cheer her up. Usually Alma stops them from talking immediately though.DoloresâŚbarely talks to her at all. The townspeople are no better, some are nice but most treat her as if sheâs a bad omen or like a piece of trash.Â
The only one that treats her with respect are TWO of her friends and her primo antonio. Thatâs only because Pepa and Felix dumped him on her at 10. She doesnât complain though, she loves him. But that shouldnât have happened, why did a 10 year old need to become a mother when the baby's mother is perfectly fine and well enough to watch after said baby?Â
Mirabel loves her family but understands whatâs happening around her, you only matter if you have a gift. She doesnât like that fact and doesnât think highly of her grandmother for it, but she doesnât show it of course.Â
Well that ALL stops today, Mirabel is supposed to be the jewel of the familyâŚand so was Bruno. But since Brunito canât really step in at the moment, Mirabel is going to get the spotlight that she deserves.Â

Shine bright like a diamond
The night of Antonioâs ceremony was tough, much for Mirabel than anyone else. Sure her favorite primito got a gift, and it was something that aligned with his interests which made her even more happy. ButâŚshe canât help but think of her ceremony and what gift she could have gotten. You expect her not to think about it? All she could do was toss and turn, and couldn't help but remember her fading door. She couldnât help but remember how almost everyone turned their back on her, either voluntarily or involuntarily.Â
Shine bright like diamond
Tears were building up in her eyes but she tried to fight them, she tried no to remember how her Abuela said she was basically drunk when she tried to alert everyone that something was wrong. She tried to fight remembering how her Abuel looked disappointed in her and how her own mother didnât believe her. She tried to fight remembering how Isabela scoffed and rolled her eyes about the matter. Why did no one believe her?Â
Fine light in the beautiful sea I need you to be happy
She tried to fight remembering how she wasnât included in the new family picture, she practically helped raise Antonio and she didnât get to be in the picture?Â
You're a shooting star I see
Why was this happening to her? Why didnât she get a gift? Why did her own family not like her because of it? What did she do to deserve this? These questions circled in her mind over and over again, she let the tears flow and sobbed under the covers of her bed.Â
I knew what youâd become one right away, oh right away
The candle was shining and sparkling brightly, a huge light covered Casita and the nursery.Â
I saw the life inside your eyes
Mirabel covered her eyes, a huge warm feeling covered her like a warm blanket. The candle grew brighter, and Casitaâs floorboards and shingles rattled. The candle grew brighter and brighter, the warmth got stronger.Â
Shine bright tonight, youâre beautiful diamonds in the sky

 Antonio was having a hard time, due to the new surroundings, and really wanted to sleep in the nursery with his Prima though. His room was naturally lit up by his treehouse, a glowing treehouse if you will. He could see everything but that doesnât mean he was comfortable.Â
He made his way down the treehouse, not noticing that Parce was following him. He opened his door and peeked through to see if anyone was awake. A few seconds pass and he walks out of his room and closes the door. Tonito makes his way to the nursery butâŚthe door seems different. It was glowing andâŚMirabel was on it.Â
Due to the rush of excitement, Antonio opened the door and there was Mirabel and her new room! Everything looked like Isabelaâs room, but more crystal/geode like and with much more colors. And VERY large. The walls were like spiky crystals with different shades of purples of blues, with some added colors. Her furniture looked like geodes and crystals but much more comfortable. Gold chains and multicolored pearls hung from the ceiling as well.Â
Her bed hung high like Isabelaâs but pearls and diamonds held the bed up instead of flowers. The bed itself is also like the inside of a geode. Not to mention that literal diamonds, crystals, pearls, and what looked to be gold beads sat on the floor.Â
âAntonio?!â a familiar voice called outÂ
âMira you HAVE A ROOOM!!!!â Antonio cheered,Â
The geode bed lowered itself down so Mirabel could get off. She got off her bed, ran towards Antonio and hugged him. Happy tears flowed down her cheeks as she nearly squeezed the life out of the boy.Â
âAnd I have a giftâ she added with a smile, she let go of Antonio and wiped away her tears.Â
âWhy are you sad? I thought you wanted a giftâÂ
âIâm not sad tonito, Iâm more happy than you could ever imagineâÂ
Antonio looked at her new appearance, she wasnât wearing her nightgown. Instead she was wearing a blue monarch butterfly dress and had what seemed to be a blue crystal tiara on her head.Â
âYou look like a princess!!â Antonio beamed,Â
âI know, itâs kind of flashy for me but I like itâÂ
âThis is so cool!Can you make crystals and diamonds? Thatâs your gift right? Have you tried to make some? â Antonio questioned, looking around her room once more.Â
âOh well I donât quiteâŚknow yetâŚlet me try!!â Mirabel took a deep breath in, closed her eyes, and held up two fists. She could feel it, two diamonds and maybe pearls formed in her hands. She opened her eyes and hands and she was right. Two blue diamonds and small pearls and crystals formed in her hands.Â
âI..I just made diamondsâŚand crystals..aye dios mioâ Mirabel would have nearly passed out if Antonio wasnât there. He softly but quickly rocked her head back and forth until she was fully conscious, she didnât fully pass out but she was on her way there.Â
âI JUST MADE DIAMONDS AND CRYSTALS!!!â Mirabel screamed, startling Antonio in the process.Â
Mirabel couldnât believe what she was seeing, she has a GIFT!!!
âOh you should tell la familia!!â Antonio said, pulling her close the the door
âWait! Letâs make it a surprise, itâs my gift tonito!â she said, stopping Antonio in his tracks
The boy pouted but understood what she was trying to say, âaww man, okayâ
Mirabel saw his face and got an idea on how to make him happy âHey, how about we make some gifts for the family?âÂ
-
Mirable woke up bright and early, mostly to take Antonio back to his room, and to finish the gifts she made for the family. Mirabel wasnt planning on serving the community at all today, or ever because of how most of them treated her but she will show some things off with friends. Publicly.Â
All the glamor around her was very new, glamor wasnât very much her thing butâŚit felt nice. It felt nice to know that she was just as glamorous as Isa, if not more so. This made her think why she wasnât glamorous before, nothing was stopping her. Mira felt a little disappointed in herself for not feeling the courage to be just as graceful and glamorous as Isa.Â
She turned her head toward her new white marble closet and remembered her whole new wardrobe. Her closet was filled with new dresses, hats, shoes, and scarves. The note she read last night was in it, she must have placed it back in there without noticing. She canât quite remember what it said so she read it again.Â
Mirabel thought this must have been from the candle, she is a little hurt that it took so long but better late than never. Mira had to decide between being too flashy or just enough to where what sheâs wearing isnât yelling âlook at meâ but today was her day, she should wear what she wants.Â
She had noticed that she heard violins playing in her room but couldnât put a finger on where the sound was coming from. It was a particular upbeat tune that she liked (thank you next, bridgerton version). Mira could tell that she was in a room inside another place but decided to investigate later. Right now, she has a family to impress.Â
(the jewelry she made herself)
After deciding on an outfit, she got dressed, grabbed all the gifts she made for her family and walked downstairs to the outside breakfast table. She first sat a magenta colored box with a maroon bow in front of Almaâs seating area. She then sat an orange colored box with a yellow bow in front of Pepaâs seating area and so on.Â
âUgh what is this?â Isabela asked with disgust in her tone, also eyeing what Mirabl was wearing.Â
âKeep the same attitude Isa, keep that same attitudeâ Mirabel thought to herself. Once everyone was situated Antonio spoke up.Â
âHi everyone, I would like for all of you to open Mirabelâs gifts, she worked very hard on themâ Antonio giggled at that last part and winked at Mirabel. Who also winked back.Â
âOh well Antonio I'm sure she did but we all have things to do and we need to talk about how youâll help the communityâ Alma said with a slightly nervous smile.Â
âPleeeeeeaseâ Antonio begged with his irresistible puppy dog eyesÂ
Alma looked at Mirabel who just happened to look away as if she wasnât listening to the conversation. Alma sighed and opened the box in front of her, in the box were drop magenta earrings with gold plated square maroon crystal necklace.Â
Crystal and diamonds were extremely rare in Encanto, the only ones you could find were passed down family heirlooms. Thatâs the only thing most people could take during the raiding.Â
âWhereâŚwhere did you get this?â Alma asked, shock fully showing itself on her face.Â
As julieta opened hers, there was a long lapis lazurite spoon along, kyanite pendant, teardrop turquenite earrings, and a blue crystal crown.Â
âDios mioâ Julie gasped
Agustin opened his box, inside it was a dumortierite crystal carved into an ax. Luisa had a sodalite crystal earring and necklace set. Isabela also got an earring and necklace set made out of purple sapphire and spinel crystals.Â
Dolores got a choker with a red ruby heart on it and red ruby heart earrings. Pepa got gold sun earrings and a golden halo. Felix got two orange rings made of spessartite garnet.Â
âWowâŚhowâd you make these?â Camilo chimed in, holding up two gold chameleon earrings. The rest of the family are doing the same with their new gifts.
Mirabel kept one more present, this one was for Antonio. Mira got up from her seat and headed over to Antonio, in her hand was ferronnière. The ferronnière had a small jaguar head pendant made out of tiger iron at the end of it.Â
âOh you guys didnât notice, I got my gift last night, you guys didnât see my door?â Mirabel asked
â...âÂ
âWowâŚokay,â she saidÂ
âa new glowing door appears but of course you wouldnât noticeâÂ
âYour joking, you donât have a giftâ Isabela said
âOh really?âÂ
Mirabel held out her hand for everyone to see, took a deep breath, closed her hand then and opened it. There were three purple sapphires and small gold chains in her hand. Which werenât there before.Â
âHowâŚhow is this possible?â Alma askedÂ
âI donât know,â Mirabel shrugged. âWant to see my new room?â she smirkedÂ
This family ran up to Mirabel's room quicker than a toddler reaching for a cookie thatâs 2 inches away from it. Mira handed Alma the note and asked her to read it out loud.Â
Dear Mirabel, I know that youâve been longing for a gift ever since you knew what one was and Iâm sorry I didnât give you one sooner but I hope youâll understand once you get older, here is a wardrobe, a castle, and a gift fit for a princess soon to be queen, I hope you like these Mariposa and I hope you forgive me as wellÂ
âQueen?!?!?â Alma shriekedÂ
âCASTLE?!?!?â Isabela shriekedÂ
âSi, castleâ Mirabel said with a bright smileÂ
Julieta quickly rushed over to her daughter and smothered her cheeks in kisses. Everybody , except Antonio, stood there gobsmacked at the situation. MirabelâŚwith a giftâŚand a CASTLE???Â
âNow if you'll excuse me, I got some red-ecorating with the townâ And with that, Mirabel was out of her room and Casita made sure to lightly push everyone except Antonio, Agustin, luisa, and Camilo out of her room. No visitors are allowed until she gets back, and Julie is needed to pass out arepas.Â
On the inside of Mirabelâs room, golden words appeared on her door for Antonio, Luisa, and Camilo to see.Â
How about you guys explore, everybody else can do their chores until Mirabel gets back.Â
âWelp you donât have to tell me twice,â Camilo said as he walked around her room, eyeing and touching everything.Â
On the other side of the door
No one but the trusted ones are allowed to go in until Mirabel gets back, go do your daily tasks. (yes, julieta ang agustin you are a trusted one but you have a job to do, but you are welcome to come in here for a break. Plus you need to see Mirabel work her magic for the first time, donât miss out!)Â
âWhat does trusted one mean?âÂ
-
âHow is she doing that?â
âHow is this possible?ââ
âWhen did she get a gift?â
The townspeople marveled at Mirabel, she was doing the exact same thing Isabela was but with crystals and gems. Each balcony railing bar had gems on them, every roof had tower crystals on them. Making the town a little bit more colorful due to the sun shining through them (these are magic crystals so nothing will catch fire). All of it basically fused with or covered Isabelaâs flowers.Â
Some large geodes and crystals bursted from the ground, thankfully not in the way of people. Mirabel was already beginning to understand her power, and she knew it.Â
âWho wants a custom necklace or earrings?â Mirabel called out
âHuh?âÂ
âOh rightâ Mirabel held out her hand to the nearest woman and in two seconds a blue pearl necklace appeared with a turquoise diamond at the end of it.Â
âHere take itâÂ
The woman quickly took the blue pearl necklace and looked at it in awe and shock.Â
âWho else wants one!?â Mirabel cheerfully shouted
âMeâ
âMeâ
âI want oneâ
People circled around Mirabel, all asking for a necklace or earrings or some sort of accessory. Mirabel didnât want to admit it but she relished in this moment, this was the kind of attention she deserved. Granted, she will have to make some boundaries but for right now, she was going to be a princess amongst her people, like she always should have been.Â

some drawings I made for the au (the last two are just some lyrics from Material girl by saucy santana)
If you have any ideas let me know!
Sheâs so sillayâźď¸âď¸ amazing art btw, love it <333
Kind of weird how they didnât notice a whole extra room. But you also canât blame them entirely, I mean itâs not like they were search for it. But heyâď¸
Honestly cool gift. She got that money, that bag. She can make Diamond (and other precious gems? Or is it just different colored diamonds. Idk, still cool). Canât imagine what everyone thinks, cause I imagine jewels like that are probably pretty rare in the Encanto. The fact that she can just make them, yeah, thatâs pretty radial.
Probably ends up making a lot of gift for people, maybe thatâs when weddings rings start have them rocks in emđ cause so far Iâve only seen silver and gold wedding bands đ

Lets talk about the 4 foot nothing famous jewel hoarding biatch Amren.
Well if you did not know yet i do not like Amren. Mainly because she can be the biatch everybody thinks nesta is and gets away with it or in other words does not get treated how nesta was. Although there was times when Amren.....i cant say it....OK when Amren ate. LIKE IM TALKING SHE READ MY MIND.
Shes my second least favorite but here are small scenes where i lowkey loved her:
Acosf chapter 64 pg 656: Azriel asked,´´You made a bargain to die together?´´ ´´Fools,´´ Amren hissed ´´Romantic, idealistic fools´´ A few lines later..... Amren massaged her temples again. ´´We can discuss the idiocy of this bargain later´´ Real amren. REAL! Like feyre girl dont glare like you dont know how stupid you are like i know you cant read but common sense! (a joke) Like do they not realise that even after Nyx is born if one dies they birth die and nyx will become parentless and crowned the high lord of the night court. Then for the rest of his life he would have to except the fact that when his mother was pregnant WITH HIM,his parents decided that their love was far more important than the small child with a life ahead. Listen feyre i get that you cant live without Rhysand. But girly pops being a mother carry´s a responsibility. When you figured out you are pregnant THAT cell in your body is your TOP priority. That cell over the world. Even is rhys died by some tragic way feyre, you cant just dip! Neither can you rhysand YOU LITTLE MONKEYS.
Acosf chapter 29 pg 311: Azriel stiffened, an outright sign of temper from him as he said quietly, ´´There is an Innate darkness to the Dread Trove that Elain should not be exposed too´´ A few seconds later..... She threw a nod toward Azriel. ´´Including Elain, who is more than capable of defending herself from against the darkness of the trove,if she chooses to. Don´t underestimate her´´
THANKYOU AMREN! Not to mention when cass said ´´but nesta should´ LIKE ATEEE but this would be a very long post if i talked about all the times cassian ate. Anyways amren is very right here only regarding elain bc she was sh!t talking about my wife (Nesta) so shes not compleatly right. Although im grateful someone said it. Lets note the fact when she said if she chooses to. Dont underestimate her´´ Sarah for sure added this to tell us how Azriels protectiveness of Elain goes. Not in the good way babe. I mentioned this and someone replied to me, StiLL AzRIel DId NoT FORbiD ElAin FRom DoING iT. WHY DOES THAT MATTER?
This man quite literally got mad about the idea of approaching elain with the REQUEST of helping. It isnt him saying no no its super dangerous this is Azriel basically saying we should not suggest this to her at all. That isnt care or protectiveness. ITS SPEAKING FOR SOMEONE AS IF THEY DONT HAVE A VOICE TO DO IT THEMSELVES. Not to mention Elain wanted to! Also lets talk about the fact how Elain called out nesta on belittling her for wanting a small life but restraining her for looking for bigger. WHICH IS SO REALL GO ELAINNN. Although she said that to Nesta BECAUSE Nesta said absoloutly not to the idea of elain trying to help on her on free will. Now just imagine what Elain would say if she knew what azriel thinks of her.
There is also another part where i liked amren but it was in acowar. It was when feyre was saying something about Elain (probably doubting her) and amren said that she sounded like tamlin. JAJAJAJAJAJ And then mor was threatning her like girl shut your stupid mouth. ANYWAYSS if Amren had been the one to say sorry to nesta i would love her but naurrr SJM hates me.
#gwynriel#anti speaking for someone else#anti child abandonment#anti amren lol#amren#feyre#rhysand#elain#gwyn#azriel#emerie#nesta#cassian#lucien#elucien#anti e/riel
