The All Blacks compete in the Lipovitan-D Rugby Championship Test Match Series and face a formidable 2023 with the Rugby World Cup in France in September and October. However, before that, they must deal with home test matches against a formidable South Africa team and the eagerly anticipated Bledisloe Cup match against Eddie Jones’ Australia.
On August 5, the All Blacks will play a rare afternoon home Test match at Forsyth Barr Stadium (2.35 PM start time), bringing the Bledisloe Cup back to Dunedin for the first time since 2017. All Blacks Hospitality anticipates that the Bledisloe Cup test match will be in high demand because there will only be one test match played on the South Island in 2023. To avoid disappointment, we advise you to confirm your hospitality requirements as early as feasible.
2023 Second Bledisloe Cup All Blacks will play home Test match at Forsyth Barr Stadium
In the All Blacks final home Test of the year against Australia on Saturday afternoon in Dunedin, assistant coach Jason Ryan says there is still more to work for. The breakdown will be one area of focus following the 38-7 Lipovitan-D Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup victory in Melbourne on Saturday.
Ryan claimed that the match had been intensely physical, as one could anticipate from a Bledisloe Cup match.
The Australians had displayed some excellent play at the breakdown.
“They put pressure on us there, and we occasionally lost our rhythm. I believe that our carry contributed to the breakdown in some way, so we’ll seek to adjust a few things there with our height. However, as we regained some momentum and began to play quickly, we felt fairly confident.

The rugby union game was a long-standing institution. Australia will attempt to wrest the Bledisloe Cup from New Zealand for the first time in 17 years at Eden Park after a decisive victory in the opening rugby match.
Since roughly 85 years ago, the Wallabies of Australia and the All Blacks of New Zealand have competed in a rugby union matchup known as the Bledisloe Cup. That much history may be found in a custom that dates back to the early 1930s.

What Have We Learnt From Joe So Far?
As the Wallabies are about to embark on their spring tour to the British Isles and Ireland, we should assess where they are at. Coming off four wins from their nine matches this season, and being ranked 10th in the world, they are not in anyway achieving success. Two wins over a weak, developing Welsh side and a shaky win over Georgia to start Joe Schimdt’s tenure has barely been a pass mark.…

Une victoire absolument pas rassurante pour les All Blacks. Certes il y a un peu de malchance mais pas seulement. Il faut montrer un meilleur visage au prochain match.

95: Lo! An undetached collection of meaning-parts!
Imagine you're in a field with someone whose language you don't speak. A rabbit scurries by. The other person says "Gavagai!" You probably assumed they meant "rabbit" but they could have meant something else, like "scurrying" or even "lo! an undetatched rabbit-part!"
In this episode, your hosts Lauren Gawne and Gretchen McCulloch get enthusiastic about how we manage to understand each other when we're learning new words, inspired by the famous "Gavagai" thought experiment from the philosopher of language WVO Quine. We talk about how children have a whole object assumption when learning language, and how linguists go about learning languages that are new to them through either translating standardized cross-linguistic wordlists known as Swadesh lists or staying monolingual and acting out concepts. We also talk about when our baseline assumptions are challenged, such as in categorizing kangaroos and wallabies by their hopping rather than their shape, and when useful folk categories, like "trees" and "fish" don't line up with evolutionary taxonomies.

Announcements: We have new Lingthusiasm merch!
Imagine you're in a field with someone whose language you don't speak. A rabbit scurries by. The other person says "Gavagai!" You probably assumed they meant "rabbit" but they could have meant something else, like "scurrying" or even "lo! an undetached rabbit-part!" Inspired by the famous Gavagai thought experiment, these items feature a running rabbit and the caption "lo, an undetached rabbit-part!" in a woodblock engraving crossed with vaporwave style in magenta, indigo, teal, cream, and black/white on shirts, scarves, and more!
"More people have been to Russia than I have" is a sentence that at first seems fine, but then gets weirder and weirder the more you read it. Inspired by these Escher sentences, we've made self-referential shirts saying "More people have read the text on this shirt than I have" (also available on tote bags, mugs, and hats), so you can wear them in old-time typewriter font and see who does a double take.
Finally, we've made a design that simply says "Ask me about linguistics" in a style that looks like a classic "Hello, my name is..." sticker, and you can put it on stickers and buttons and shirts and assorted other portable items for when you want to skip the small talk and go right to a topic you're excited about.
Also, there are lots of other designs of Lingthusiasm merch, and we love to see your photos of it! Feel free to tag us @lingthusiasm on social media so we can see it out in the world.
In this month’s bonus episode we get enthusiastic about the word "do"! We talk about the various functions of "do" as illustrated by lyrics from ABBA and other pop songs, what makes the word "do" so unique in English compared to other languages, and the drama of how "do" caught on and then almost got driven out again

Have you ever seen a Quoka? Now you have! Descriptions of the Quoka from the San Diego Zoo:
Aside from being named one of the best Scrabble words you’ll ever play, the quokka has a lot going for it, even as the smallest type of wallaby in Australia. About the size of a house cat, this fuzzy, pouch-packing, nocturnal herbivore is terrestrial, but can climb about 5 feet (1.5 meters) up a tree for a tasty snack. The quokka has a bounding gait interspersed with hopping; it does not use its tail as a tripod like kangaroos sometimes do.
The quokka’s friendly, curious personality (even toward humans) is surpassed only by its perpetual “smile.” Of course, the quokka’s grin is largely due to its facial muscles and protruding front teeth, not the person on the ground waving around a selfie stick, trying to get a #quokkaselfie, which is trending in Australia (and worth an Internet search). While getting that close to wildlife is usually frowned upon—Instagram even created a warning for the quokka selfie hashtag stating that some images “may be associated with animal abuse”—it appears that the quokka on Rottnest Island are not showing any signs of distress posing for their closeup and are free to move away from the tourists when they choose.
Yesterday and today.  The quokka was common in coastal parts of the mainland of southwestern Australia until the 1930s, when the red fox Vulpes vulpes was introduced. This voracious hunter made short order of the quokka in many areas. Luckily, the foxes did not make it to Rottnest Island, so quokkas are more plentiful there. But across their range, human activities have negatively impacted their habitat—clearing for agriculture and housing, as well as recreational activity, fire regimes, and introduced animals all fragment suitable habitat for this (and other) native species.
Quokkas have coarse, brown fur that becomes lighter on the belly. Its rounded back, erect ears, small front hands and long rear feet, thinly-furred tail, and wet, black nose are not only great adaptations, but also give it high marks on the Absolutely Adorable test. Lacking a formidable bite, kick, or stench, the quokka instead quickly bolts down trodden paths through thick grasses to avoid predators. In a mad dash, it hops on its hind legs.

Oi c-, *ahem*. Hello friend, I have been meaning to get around to tumblr stalking but my screen filters haven't been working. Til you're in NZ! Howdy, neighbour! (You can literally HAVE lamingtons, but I will never accept Jandles.) ❤️❤️
Howdy howdy. First of all...
Tumblr media
Coming This Summer...
(or winter for you northern hemisphere folks) the greatest trans-tasman clash since the Wallabies last played the All Blacks! Representing Australia we have Simfestation, collector of stinky infants and not so accidental sim deaths. Representing New Zealand we have ChangingPlumbob, collector of overly confident sims and user of excessive puns. Both love cats and glitches, yet only ONE can emerge victorious.
The winner will claim for their country ownership of pavlova, fairy bread and Russel Crowe.
Loser must claim for their country ownership of lamingtons, the flat white and budgie smugglers.
Following a traditional gumboot throw debate topics will include:
Should you blow on the pie
Possums: Pest or protected
P Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney
Edit: It took me four hours to realise but it's spelled Jandal and you're dreaming if you ever expect me to call them thongs without doubling over in laughter

Meet Doug Taylor and Dale Campbell, both Park Rangers in the Tjoritja-West Macdonnell National Park.
As Arrertne people, Dale and Doug both have a deep cultural connection to this region. Dale shares that as a “born and bred Alice Springs local, working out on Tjoritja-West McDonald National Park is a privilege because I'm working out on my Country, my family's country. It’s the best."
Sharing feelings of pride to be caring for Country and walking the pathways of their ancestors Doug says, “I’m an Arrertne person, so for me this is ancestral Country. As a ranger, it’s great that I can work on the Country of my ancestors, and at the same time exchange that knowledge with visitors, the significance of the ranges, because there’s so many important sites through here and along the trail.”
Based at spectacular Simpsons Gap, they manage a section of the world-famous Larapinta Trail. The 223km trail is divided into twelve sections that each take one or two days to complete. It stretches from Mparntwe (Alice Springs) to Rwetyepme (Mt Sonder). Dale tells us that “hundreds and hundreds of hikers come through the trail every year now. It’s one of the most spectacular hiking trails here in Australia. It gives you the whole overview of what the West Macdonnell Ranges are all about.”
Dale explains some of the work that the Ranger team does to maintain the trails and safety of walkers, as well as show us some of the incredible plants in bloom in the desert. “As you can see the country’s quite dry right now. Well up to 40°C, sometimes 50°C summer days. Being a park ranger, we provide water to the Lara-trail tanks, service the toilet blocks, even provide assistance for hikers that are injured. We also provide a bit of knowledge of the place. Giving education to them is one of the key things.”
Dale shows us the resurrection fern Cheilanthes lasiophylla. “After any bit of moisture that we get in Central Australia, the resurrection fern fingers will open and come back to life. After the moisture dries up, they eventually curl back up and go back to sleep.” Doug shows us an Eremophila freelingii in which “the honeyeaters have extracted all the nectar out” of the flowers.
People travel to Alice Springs from all over the world to experience not just the physical challenge of the hike, but also the spiritual connection to this ancient landscape. The plants, animals, waterholes and rock formations found here are deeply significant to the creation stories of the Arrernte people, including parts of the Akngwelye and Yeperenye Altyerre (Wild Dog and Caterpillar) dreaming stories.
"Our rangers' role is very, very diverse and different. It's so good for us as work, because we're not just doing one thing, we're doing lots of different things. Things like fire management, weed management, as well looking after the trail. It's a fantastic role and I feel very fortunate to be doing it” says, Doug. “Also, for our young people here, they have opportunities to be rangers. That’s what we want, we want our young people to work the country of their ancestors and feel good about it because this is their home. What better place to come to work, I mean – what an office!”
Featured Plants:
WOOLLY CLOAK-FERN - Cheilanthes lasiophylla
ROCK FUCHSIA BUSH - Eremophila freelingii
ROCK FIG - Ficus brachypoda
BLACK-FOOTED ROCK-WALLABY - Petrogale lateralis
SPEARWOOD - Pandorea doratoxylon

last song you listened to: becomes the color by emily wells!! obsessed w it always bcs of the lyrics and how grittily desperate that song is
if you were a cookie what kind you'd be?: how do i say i didnt realise there were cookies of different kinds bcs ive never much had them since they are not really common here until i forced myself to think logically abt it. pls assign me a cookie yourself giys apologies!!!
what’s a weird fact that you know?: that a giraffe's long necks is not the evolutionary gift for easy sustenance like one might likely believe. its there so that they can use it to beat the shit out of each other like a whipping lash when they're mad. and they must be mad a lot bcs their heads are also heavy as a club all of which is to say the thing that reels me the most here is that u can be granted upgraded weapon for limbs by mother nature if ur species as a whole show enough violent tendencies
tea or coffee?: the adhd rite of passage when u discover coffee makes u calm, anxiety less and sleepy when u try it out the first time before bed. and then u never look back
favorite extinct animal? (such cool question!!): toolache wallaby bcs they're yet another small marsupials we need more of in this world. and tasmanian wolf/tiger bcs u look at that animal and think ok it looks more like smth you'd have in ur fantasy book. which is why ofc when humans landed on australia, many cool creatures became stuff of imagination
whats the color of ur hair?: black <3
thank u for the questions jess, they were so fun!!!
