Okay but it's super interesting how

Din = Power = Ganondorf

Naryu = Wisdom = Zelda

Farore = Courage = Link.

Because Din, in the hylian creation myth, created the physical world. Naryu then created the laws - gravity, time, etc. And Farore finally created life - plants and people.

Din created the body, naryu the mind, Farore the soul.

And the triforce and its wielders so perfectly reflect that.

Ganon is physical power, he is big and intimidating and he breaks things. He is cunning and determined, but that's not what he focuses on. He is might makes right.

Zelda is wisdom and cleverness. She is stall tactics and information and team work. She is a powerful mage with a spine of steel, but that's not how she'll win. She is the pen being mightier than the sword.

Link is courage and persistence. He is the wild card sneaking behind enemy ranks, always moving, plunging into terrifying situations head first. He's a phenomenal fighter with a keen wit, but that's not what will get him through his challenges. He is bravery not being the absence of fear but the triumph over it.

They sit in perfect parallels to each other.

And ganon is reborn through his body - his resurrection is immortality. No matter how low he is cast, as long as he has a body he can claw his way back. He can cling to his power, build it ever higher.

Zelda is reborn through the magic of her bloodline. It's the accumulated knowledge handed down for generations, the unique power she must master, the skills she must develop to survive and get her kingdom out the other side intact. Even her name, the knowledge of herself, is handed down from all the way from the very first. Her ancestors knowledge of her future presence, her stability, is what gives her the edge.

Link is reborn in spirit. He is not bound by flesh or blood. Just like his wanderlust soul he can reappear in any time or place. His variation, his unpredictability, is exactly how he fights. It's what makes him so hard to pin down.

Ganons need to build strength means he can't chase after link. Links impulsiveness means zelda can outwit him. Zeldas stationary predictability means she's an easy target for ganon.

But the other direction?

Fire melts ice, ice redirects lightning, lightning burns fire.

And that's the very essence of the triforce.

#It's little details spread across the games like this that just makes it work so WELL it's SO COOL #They're all great at all parts of the triforce but they CHOOSE to focus on the path most meaningful to them #And that's literally reflected in their unique cycles of reincarnation isn't that just AMAZING #And that's why the team up is so important! If they were all working against each other they'd be locked spinning their wheels #If zelda and ganon teamed up link would immediately die and if link and ganon teamed up zelda would instantly perish #It's the link zelda team up that means ganon is the one who kicks it #Also the elemental thing was cool but they do jump around a bit. Like wind is there half the time #In botk the gerudo have lightning and the goron have fire. Farosh still has lightning tho and dinraal fire #In ss lanaryu was the lightning and faron had water like its all over the place thematically. And that's when it's only 3!#Don't even get me started on the 5/7 lots notankyu #But that's the most common group and it's also thematically accurate #Fire being the only one able to self perpetuate with fuel. Can be banked up again. Ice compresses with time but needs the right environment #Lightning go boom 👍 you can feel the static in the air but you don't know when/where it'll strike and then it's all over #Like fr it's hilarious zelda and ganon are playing the long game and link runs past eats all the pieces and while ganons yelling after him #Zelda checkmates his king. ‘the children yearn for the mines’ is a little too real to me bc when i was a kid and my older siblings were trying to get me into pokémon i really never cared to try playing. BUT. i was obsessed with the underground mining minigame in dppt. i used to beg my sister to let me take a turn playing and set it up for me bc i didn’t know how to so i could go mine for gems nonstop until i cleared that entire cave section of glittering wall spots which always made me so sad bc i was having such a great time. i didn’t even understand the significance of what i was doing but 7 year old me was high off of it

#years and years later when i actually played platinum myself and it hit me like OH this is the game with the mining thing!!!#you have no idea how happy i was #…and also sad. it made me kinda heartsick bc in my childhood nostalgia dreams #my brother and sister used to play online together and do capture the flag #and their little minigame battles in the underground with their cool secret bases were so fun to watch #like that was back when the wifi connection was working and the games were alive and relevant #but i came back to it far far too late. when it was a mere relic and i was alone with no other players #still. hearing the music again brought a smile to my face #pokémon #dppt #i am once again rambling about my very special relationship to sinnoh #i didn’t play pokémon as a kid but also yes i did it was part of my childhood. like without really knowing much about it #the lil character sprites. hearthome city theme #the contests #the crunchy sound of the map opening #and the incomprehensible map itself #the bike and surf music #empoleon and staravia’s cries as they went to use surf and fly #truly. being a younger sibling watching your older sibling play has such an impact on you #it’s all nostalgic to me too i just didn’t know the full context of it myself back then #couple all this with the weird feeling of having played pokémon legends arceus as my first own game #and THEN going and finally checking out dppt #it was like double nostalgia. two different half-nostakgia experiences #just. agh i make fun of gen 4 for a lot of things but it is fundamentally my heart isn’t it #i also literally am incapable of talking about it for more than 5 minutes without bringing pla into it lol #pokeposting

was kinda thinking about this when I saw Renee Rapp live recently-- I didn't know her visual vibe, I'd heard a few songs here and there but I hadn't really *seen* her, and her attire at Osheaga was really casual, a jersey (baseball/basketball?) and slacks. And that was so amazing! I couldn't help thinking, the work Billie Eilish has done for how women in pop music are allowed to dress is incredible. Seeing her up there all comfortable you just know that Billie walked in her oversized tops so that Renee in her slacks could run; Billie walked through all the critcisms about how she dressed slobbily and having to assert that she didn't owe anyone a display of skin, so that Renee could be comfortable and unquestioned running up and down the catwalk in front of 10,000 people. How iconic.

And I don't think we even realised at the time how much something as simple as letting Billie dress the way she as a (then-) 17-year-old teenager dressed, could end up meaning for a future generation of women in music.

Obviously there is still way to go, there were weirdos complaining about how 'plain' Dua Lipa's Glastonbury outfit was this year (in 2024!!), l have to ask, are you at Paris Fashion Week?? She is the musical HEADLINER of an entire day of music at one of the biggest music festivals in the world, and you can't grant her the space to exist as an artist, you have to moan about her dress not being excitingly revealing enough. There's work to do, it's still dismal out there. But the space Billie Eilish has created for a most ordinarily-dressed woman popstar is still heartening.

And in a party dress!#But then again Lambrini Girls genuinely are freaks of nature and I envy anyone who's going to see them open for Amyl & the Sniffers rn #bc that's an EXPLOSIVE combo. I was saying.#Part of it certainly comes from a normalisation of just superhuman strength; balance + praying there's no malfunction with your skirt #which DOES happen at rock shows more frequently than you'd imagine. nothing more cringe than coaxing and half-forcing someone to go to the movies with you because you're talking up how good the last one in the series was and then they finally agree to go and then it ends up being over two hours long and also kinda the worst 😬

#this is about the latest mad max movie btw #IM SO UPSET I WANTED IT TO BE GOOD BUT IT WASNT GOOD #fury road is just one of my fave movies ever and i assumed this one would also be fun but it was like #weirdly paced kind of oddly boring and also uncomfortably gratuitously violent #and now i feel crazy because everyone is raving about it in the reviews #im like am i the only one who didn't like it??#chris hemsworth makes a shitty villain and also they didnt really give him anything of substance to work with as a character here #anya taylor joy did well but also took forever to appear and is either mute most of the time or awkwardly dubbed over by charlize theron #the fights and actions scenes didnt make a lot of sense much of the time and had random plot holes abounding #and half the cool and mysterious worldbuilding and character stuff from the previous movie were kinda wrecked a bit for me somehow #at least we still have fury road but dang thats like a 5 star movie to me and this was like a 2.5 star movie #and the good stuff in it is just stuff thats good about the mad max world in general really not this movie itself #wahhhhhh im sad #at least i paid for everyone's tickets i guess #i was like apologizing to the people i dragged to it haha #and then i checked the critics' responses and everyone is like 5 stars!! a masterpiece!!#im so confused by all the rave reviews #furiosa spoilers #movies #p
