What is Kuina and Chishiya’s relationship in your Firelight: the Neither of us are good people universe ? Is it like in the manga, the show or do they have a completely different relationship compared to both of the show and the manga?

Hey, thanks for asking! The Firelight series was always meant to be canon compliant (though in hindsight I've made some mistakes here and there, but eh, and God knows how S3 will change things). Good point on Kuina, though, because the show and the manga treat her way differently. In all honesty I've never really thought about Kuina's place in NOUWGP, just zeroed in on Chishiya and Niragi (this has caused problems before lol, you can pretty much spot the moment in chapter 10 where I remember that Arisu was also in the shootout).

That said, I've always preferred the manga version for Kuina and Chishiya's relationship. Mostly because she has, you know, morals, and actually calls him on the way he lies to her and betrays Arisu to the militants. It feels more in character for her than just shrugging the whole thing off, plus I like that it's actually acknowledged, narratively, that what Chishiya pulls right before the Ten of Hearts is messed up. It's been a while since I've seen the show, but IIRC Kuina doesn't really call him on it, and they're only separated because of the whole "Chishiya won't run even if under anti-tank rifle fire", which though hilarious was pretty forced.

So if I'd written Firelight-universe flashbacks set around that time I probably would have gone with the manga version (I also did that for my other fic series). I guess it would narratively make more sense too, Firelight wise, having both Chishiya and Niragi on their own in the Borderlands after the Beach burns down. It's a nice parallel.

(Though if Chishiya actually follows through on improving himself after the Borderlands and he runs into Kuina again, maybe they could work a friendship out somehow? Not in the Firelight series I don't think, but I do secretly like my happy endings underneath all the angst. I just get bored if I try to write too much fluff lol)

if theyre gonna adapt Border Road they should rename Alice to Doroshii so shes not too closely associated w Arisu. also bc Border Road gives me more Wizard Of Oz vibes, which i think was the point of it
