Real 10 Dance vol. 4 Announced!

The Real 10 Dance twitter account announced that there will be another event this year on May 31st (Thur) to celebrate the fast approaching release of volume 8 of the manga! It will take place in Rinya Kaikan in Bunkyo City, Tokyo, more details are yet to be released. If you're in Japan during that time, definitely consider getting tickets!

Real 10 Dance is a special event where professional ballroom dancers (including the supervisors for the manga, Nishio Koichi, Shimoda Ai, and Kamiwaki Yukiko) perform the ten standard and latin dances for an audience. Inoue-sensei and her teacher have attended in the past, and two years ago there was a QnA with her and a 10 Dance trivia quiz, you can read the full report of that event by sailorspazz here. I can't wait to see what they will do this year!

Although Inoue hasn't announced it herself, this pretty much confirmed the information on the new obis of re-print volumes: that volume 8 will come out mid to late May.

First Look at Netflix's 10 Dance

Netflix released an image from the upcoming live action adaptation of 10 Dance, now confirmed to stream in December! This picture is so beautiful, and it's fun noticing the little details, such as Suzuki's jewelry. December is a long way away, but I'm still really excited for it!

10 Dance chapter 43 part 2 - I Could've Danced All Night

The super sweet, lovey-dovey ending to chapter 43 (and volume 8) was released today! We see the Suzuki-Tajima pair on call with Nino Zolche, Norman having a short conversation with Saichi, and a look into how the Shinyas are faring so far in their new, official relationship. Sugiki invites Suzuki to go out for a meal together, and then..?

10 Dance ch. 43 pt. 2 Sneak Peak 2!

In a new tweet today, Inoue's teacher confirmed the release date of February 7th (this Friday!) along with a preview of this update! The shot is of Suzuki and Sugiki both taking pictures (?) with their phones. Suzuki is in daytime, while Sugiki is in nighttime. Maybe one of them is traveling somewhere? Inoue's teacher described them as "being in their own world" and said this chapter will make readers happy.

We will see our lovey-dovey Shinyas again very soon, as well as the end of volume 8! Hopefully the announcement and volume cover will be revealed soon?

I don't think we've ever seen a video of Inoue on camera, so this is a first! I was so curious to hear how she sounds, though she sounds just about how I'd imagine, haha. Although the interview is short, it was so cool getting to see Inoue in a video. She seems to have a new avatar as well.

Inouesatoh tweeted a video from the Yanmaga YouTube channel that features footage from the publisher's year-end party. There were many manga artists in attendance, and they were each briefly interviewed during the party. Each one had the chance to choose from one of nine questions that they'd like to answer. Below, some of the examples shown include: what is the most enjoyable part about drawing manga, who is a manga creator you currently like, and what does solitude mean (kind of getting more philosophical on that last one lol, but I suppose it is relevant to manga creators who may often work in isolation when their assistants or editors aren't around. And flipping around to the various artists in the video, a few did choose this question).

Inouesatoh's segment starts around 20:40 into the video if anyone would like to hear her voice and see her (obscured) face.

She chooses the question "what does manga mean to you?"

Inouesatoh: To me, manga is entertainment. It's very important in my life. When I'm feeling down, or going through tough times, manga is what I read to gain the strength to keep moving forward. Manga is also what helps me cry things out and move on when I'm feeling sad. When I'm scared, manga allows me to read something that's even scarier, clear my head, and move on to the next thing. I guess? (laugh).

Interviewer: Have you ever experienced the feeling that a particular manga or character saved your life?

Inouesatoh: Many times, so many that it's hard to think of an example. Oh, but I think I have one. It's a manga that's kind of about gender, about not having to put gender at the forefront, that it's okay to just be yourself. That was a manga I read in elementary school, and I felt like it saved me. It was called "Fushigi no Kuni no Senichiya", it ran in Nakayoshi, by Masako Sone. (Note: from what I can tell, this series never had an official English translation, but would best be titled as something like "1001 Nights in Wonderland". It ran from 1980 to 1985, and featured the adventures of a girl who was born into royalty and raised as a prince.)

Interviewer: By the way, next year...or rather, this year your series is getting a movie adaptation?

Inouesatoh: Yes it is, thanks to everyone's support.

Interviewer: And with Keishi Ootomo directing.

Inouesatoh: Yes, it's really reassuring. He's taking solid, beautiful imagery, and really...how should I put this...and just expanding it out like a treasure. That's what he's doing as a director.

Interviewer: I'm looking forward to the movie.

Inouesatoh: Thank you so much. I'm also looking forward to it.

It's quite rare to see any interviews from her, and even rarer for her to appear on camera, so even though this was quite short, it was nice to listen to her thoughts and see her excitement for the movie. If you'd like even more Inouesatoh in your life, I have a report from a couple years ago from the Real 10 Dance event I attended in Japan, where she revealed many interesting tidbits about the series.

10 Dance ch. 43 pt. 2 Sneak Peak!

Inoue wrote a new year's message to her twitter, talking about picking up a cold around the new year that lasted for quite a while and developed into asthma. She now has an inhaler and can sleep better, I hope she's doing well.

In the second tweet she also added a preview panel of the Shinyas! Suzuki looks dangerously seductive with his fingers on Sugiki's face, while Sugiki is saying something with a serious expression. She is also seemingly working on volume 8 now that this chapter has been submitted.

Comic Days puts the release date on 7th of February, although Inoue hasn't confirmed it. But it's soon!

10 Dance chapter 9 - Love is a wish your heart makes

Recently rereading (there’s never a bad time to revise ;)) and this scene killed me. Sugiki can appear as nonchalant and above-it-all as he likes about his place in the dance industry, but deep down, when he finally whispers the truth to Suzuki, he can't help but want to strive for something more. On the surface he looks so unbothered and puts up this front, yet in this little confession he sounds frustrated and resigned.

The Blackpool arc really expanded on Sugiki's already rich character backstory. Up until now, Suzuki has put him on a pedestal and equating him to the world champion only to discover that it isn't the whole story. I really liked his emotional reaction in chapter 8 compared to everyone else at the table, who are already used to the industry politics and don't necessarily want to change it. Even though it's a little sad, this is also a sweet and intimate moment of Sugiki taking his mask off.

This is another volume where Sugiki takes a bit of backseat (literally), but only for the first half. I love the way Inoue drew him saying the "soldier's routines" line in #25 that made him look so powerful and proud. And his pretty eyes glancing up in #26... This volume's style was unmatched.

For "research", I watched some past dramas that Machida Keita and Takeuchi Ryoma were in. And although I'm still quite curious about how Machida will play Sugiki, it makes sense for him to be cast as this character. Machida has been in a lot of elegant gentlemanly roles, while Sugiki was raised to act out the part of the perfect gentleman. It would certainly be interesting to see him portray a character who is, on the surface, like some of his past characters, but then reveal that to be an act and that he isn't who people think he is.

This chapter was nothing but happiness! After so much longing, pining, and angst, it finally paid off for the Shinyas and us readers.

Suzuki looks so happy now that they made their relationship official. He's basically blushing or giving off hearts in every panel of this update, and it's delightful. I love seeing him happy like this :')! And his "mom texts" are so cute, but those texts followed up by a super sexy selfie is a hilarious contrast. The curls are so adorable, Suzuki's sex appeal really maxed out so much that they went off the charts in this chapter, holy cow...

Him being aroused by thinking back to Sugiki's crying from the night before was funny, but I can't really fault him for it when Sugiki looks this cute. His uke energy is radiating in all directions..! The way he wipes his tears and try to regain composure... it just gets me in a certain way that I can't explain. Suzuki has wanted to see him bawl his eyes out ever since the first chapter, and he finally got that satisfaction (although in a different way than he thought).

Sugiki, on the other hand, still doesn't blush very much, but he is also very much in love. He didn't have much of a reaction from Suzuki's selfie which I find baffling because I would've gone crazy. Those curves are insane??? But Suzuki would be happy to know there's a little bit of a blush coming from Sugiki.

It's so cute how they both wanted to spend more time with each other; Suzuki wanted to take him home right then and there, and Sugiki thought he should've asked him to stay. Awwww... I also want Suzuki to take him home immediately, but that would rouse suspicion from Sugiki's school. Still waiting for his mom to find out...

After this, Sugiki also sent Suzuki a selfie from the same angle, but with his usual resting bitch face, hahaha. These two really are polar opposites. My guess is that he had no clue how to respond to such an erotic selfie that this was the best he could do. At least show some skin,,, But Suzuki doesn't mind at all.

This update ended on a scene transition to a dance lesson with Norman, and he also got hotter (somehow) in the last page! I wonder if he allowed Max to stay in his house and drink together (and maybe do more lmao) the previous night. He has given himself a new role of Master but I didn't expect that he'd make Suzuki call him that, haha (does... does Aki need to call him that too??). Even Nino, who once said "I want both Shinyas naked on their hands and knees" is creeped out by this! I'm also really excited to see Suzuki's first session with The Nino Zolche... We first got his background in volume 5 but have never been able to see him dance or teach. I hope the next update will come out next month!

The day after their reunion, both Shinyas regret that they did not have the chance to spend much time together the night before. Though they communicate through texts and selfies, both are left yearning for something more.

Chapter 43, part 1: I Could Have Danced All Night

The morning after the Shinyas' reunion, Suzuki lies in bed sending good morning texts to Sugiki. He writes that he should be careful and drink plenty of water since it'll be really hot today, and is also going to tell him to wear a short-sleeved shirt, but then questions why he's sending such motherly messages and deletes what he's writing. He thinks some sexier words might have more impact than this. He blushes as he remembers Sugiki's crying face, and decides he'll just send a selfie for now. He suddenly gets an erection, chiding himself since he was trying to avoid thinking like that.

Meanwhile, Sugiki is at his place getting ready for the day, seeing Suzuki’s message come through as he brushes his teeth. The selfie features Suzuki wearing a tank top pulled up to reveal his chest, with a blanket draped over his lower body. He comments that it’s exactly what he’d expect from Suzuki.

While taking the pic, Suzuki wondered if the blanket looked weird, but also figured he shouldn’t send an erect dick pic out of the blue. Both Shinyas recall the previous night, when after their embrace Sugiki soon needed to return to the classroom to teach more lessons. Suzuki thinks about how badly he wanted to take him home right then, while Sugiki wishes he had asked Suzuki to stick around until his lessons were over.

A bit later, as Suzuki steps into Saichi’s car, he receives a stoic selfie back from Sugiki, which he still finds adorable.

He asks if Saichi can take some pictures of him, and makes a flirty pose in the car with his legs spread, tongue sticking out, and winking. Saichi blushes and thinks that this must be the terrifying power of a Latino in love. He tells himself that he’s straight and has a daughter, yet this sight is still making his heart skip a beat. He believes that the one he’s dating now must be Sugiki, as no one else could handle Suzuki like this.

Meanwhile, Sugiki is dancing with Fusako in the classroom. Once they finish, he says that Fusako did great. She blushes and smiles as she looks at him, seeing that he’s brimming with the essence of Suzuki, and thinks that things must have gone well between them.

Suzuki greets Aki at the dance school with a hug and kiss on the cheek, as she looks pleased that he seems happy now. Later, the two head to the other studio for their lessons with Norman. As they approach the door, Suzuki wonders what he should say to Norman to thank him for yesterday. He enters and starts to address him by his name, but Norman insists that he call him “Master” now. He’s holding a tablet where Nino can be seen on a video call. Nino wonders what Norman’s playing at, wanting to be addressed that way, and calls him a pervert.

I found 10 Dance from a list here on tumblr, but I can't find it anymore. I thought the style felt very vintage (it turned out that was just because the scan was low quality lol), and the story was so refreshing with a slow burn and well-written characters. That was the start of the pandemic, so with the right combination of a good manga and a lot of time on my hands, I fell head over heels with this story!

10 Dance chapter 43 Sneak Peak 2

A few days ago, Inoue-sensei posted another preview for the chapter coming next week! She added two draft panels of Sugiki and Suzuki, who has returned to his old "Lovely-chan" mode, looking very seductive and hot. I can't wait to see it!

Under the drawings, Inoue also wrote that terms like "WShinya (Double Shinya)", "dick contact", and "connect balls" (please correct me on that) are all terms made by fans that she has started to use regularly. Does this mean we'll be seeing some explicit content for our Shinyas soon..?

This may be just me, but I love the Drama CD cast so much. Okitsu-san's voice was exactly how I imagined Sugiki to sound that it was almost scary when I first listened to it. Ono-san took some time to get used to, but he's become my favorite voice actor because I can't unhear Suzuki anymore... It would be amazing to bring them back for an anime someday. The fact that I can even dream about the possibility of an anime is crazy.

I picked two fitting pictures from the actors' recent Instagram feeds! Takeuchi-san's smile is really sweet, I can see hints of Suzuki already. I still feel like Machida's eyes are too big for it to be convincing as Sugiki, and he looks too nice, but he does have an elegant aura to him that is crucial to Sugiki's character.

Following the announcement of the movie, Inoue's teacher also posted two preview pages for the next chapter, coming 12/13! The title is "I Could've Danced All Night", a reference to My Fair Lady. The first page shows the two Shinyas happily talking a walk in the desert, which kind of looks like a photoshoot..? The second image is of Saichi and Suzuki getting into a car with many camera flashes all around. Perhaps there is a small timeskip? And we get a panel of Sugiki and Fusako dancing together. It's been a while.
