ive been rereading this post and i saw someone in the tags say this might have been an instance when "the jack made use of his spade"

and now i cant stop thinking about the eroticism of Nigel submitting to Alex and being under his full control. Alex slipping into a truly domineering side that he hadnt explored up until now and completely unleashing it on Nigel.

On the topic of their "first time" and losing "virginity", this first murder together could be their first time.

Maybe Nigel was already there ready to kill her, and Alex caught him when he was back from having missed Susan and the theatre.

Alex catches Nigel, blood splattered on his face and collar, red striking on Nigel's pale skin.

Alex doesn't realise who the person lying on the floor is, too taken with Nigel's appearence before him.

It is only after they both stare into each others eyes for what seems like a full 10 minutes in silence that Alex looks down to see Susan.

His face instantly hardens as he realises what Nigel has done.

Instead of approaching the body of Susan to inspect her, Alex finds his feet leading him inches away from Nigel's.

Nigel is still staring at him, but now, the ghost of a smile hovers on his lips as he realises Alex recognized who the body is.

Here, on this hill, where it is only Alex, Nigel and a dead body, Alex can't bring himself to care about anything else other than the boy in front of him. Alex finds it funny, for an instant, because this is what hid mind has been like when he is not distracted ever since Nigel entered his life: Just them, together, seperated from anything else.

Alex looks down at Nigel's hands, his fingertips tainted with partly dried and fresh blood. In the silence of the cabin, not even Nigel's breath can be heard. The only sound made is when Alex's breath hitches as his own hand reaches for Nigel's, heart picking up pace.

Alex's fingers stop mid air, barely a breath away from Nigel's. Intense heat radiates from Nigel's body and cuts cleanly through the freezing cold of the cabin. He closes his eyes for a moment, needing to ground himself at the terrifying urge clawing its way up from the pit of his stomach. But he fails to keep them closed. Fails to resist that horrible, horrible want, when Nigel's soft whispering voice pushes him off the precipice:

"Jack, i didn't finish your present yet..."

Alex feels himself swallow a ball of nerves and something when he opens his eyes and sees Nigel practically smiling sheepishly. He looks embarrassed and... Alex's eyes widen to see pink dusting Nigel's cheeks.

Alex gives in.

Because that is the only thing he knows to do with Nigel.

When god presents an offering, the believer takes it.

Alex gives in to the Thing that has been rising in him ever since he stepped into the cabin and laid his eyes on Nigel's blood covered face.

He closes the distance between their hands and grabs Nigel's.

Alex looks up and locks eyes with Nigel, not wanting to miss a single instant from his gaze, and bring Nigel's blood soaked hands to his face.

Nigel cocks his head, starting to say something, but his lips freeze open in the middle of a vowel in the way Alex can't avert his eyes from when Nigel speaks to him.

Alex opens his mouth and places Nigel's fingers on the bed of his tongue.

Alex eyes stay on Nigel. Nigel is still frozen in place.

Alex then closes his mouth, heat of his mouth envelopping 2 of Nigel's fingers. He sucks his cheek, making every cavity of his mouth rub against Nigel's fingers. Then comes his tongue, slithering between the two fingers, copper taste invading his taste buds.

Alex almost loses himself in his own ministrations, but he is suddenly brought back when his eyes latch on to Nigel slowly gulping, eyes darting to Alex's mouth.

There. There it is. The wood Alex needed to fuel the fire inside him: Nigel's resolve breaking. Nigel breaking, Alex thinks, and he goes a little light headed thinking about breaking Nigel with his own hands, his own words.

Alex doesn't get shocked at Nigel responding to his own inner thoughts anymore, their bond having become a part of him, of them.

So he doesn't back away when after picturing Nigel at his feet, Nigel suddenly steps even more into his space, their torsos now pressed against each other, and says "Yes. Yes, Jack."

A Normal Post About Like Minds

Spoilers, obvsly, along with some dark and gruesome content - you were warned. People just here for hot Tom Sturridge had best move along - this is not the post you're looking for.

I've been thinking a normal amount about this movie, and my brain keeps going back to the central problem of the unreliable narrator and trying to determine who actually did what vs Jack's tale.

So, who killed Susan?

Things we can know about Nigel: His notebooks and drawings exist as an objective fact, as does his secret room along with all the taxidermy and preserved creatures, and they tell us that he is meticulous, precise, perceptive, detail-oriented, obsessively observant, extremely tidy, fascinated by dead things/how creatures work, and heavily invested in his own personal mythology re: the Templars.

Things we can know about Alex/Jack: His behavior at the police station and his school records/interactions are an objective fact. The events after he is cleared of the murder charges are also fact. From them, we can determine that he is impulsive, aggressive, reckless, intelligent, disrespectful of authority and tradition, rebellious, disillusioned, obsessed with Nigel, had intercourse with Susan's corpse (by inference from his later actions), desecrated a grave, and stole a skull.

Now let's consider Nigel's characteristics in comparison with the crime scene:

This crime scene is a mess. Blood everywhere, tools haphazardly tossed aside. The intestines hung from the ceiling for no reason. Nothing about this seems in character for Nigel. Instead it's sloppy, exaggerated, violent, impressionistic.

I posit that Alex/Jack murdered Susan using tools like those Nigel uses, perhaps to try to shift blame to him. But more than that, this murder scene reads like Alex/Jack's homage to Nigel's dissection of the bird in their shared room. It smacks of an artist's recreation of the witnessed image, an exploration of his conflicted and disturbing emotions writ in loose, interpretive gestures.

the lifting of the intestines

the steel pan

the open window/a structure that is ALL window

the blood splashes on the pan/the blood splashes on the window and potting bench

the formaldehyde container and tubing hanging from a support/the intestines hung in much the same way

even the containers on the desk/pots on the potting bench

Was it a tribute or a mockery, or maybe some complex mix of both of these and more? Is he, in fact, using Nigel metaphorically as an implement for killing?
