john gaius is an interesting character because he is a charismatic and nice and funny guy AND he is an indigenous man living in his homeland that has been colonized by a brutal imperial force for centuries AND he's an anticapitalist working hard to prevent climate change AND he's a biologist trying to save all of humanity and get everyone out alive, not just the elite with the means to pay for it AND he is an indigenous healer being targeted and hunted down by multiple colonial governments AND he is entrusted with the powers to save people by the spirit of the earth itself AND he kills everyone on the face of the planet to try and stop the trillionaires from leaving but fails AND he resurrects his colleagues and friends but wipes their memories AND he cannot forgive himself but also cannot let go of the very feeling that made him guilty to begin with AND he puts the soul of a planet and 10 billion people into a flesh-and-bone doll AND when she is furious at him (what they did to you and what they wrung from you and what shape they made you fill) and scaring the others he locks her away AND he's a masterful manipulator AND his actions towards the earth are a metaphor for sexual assault AND he based an entire society around violating other people's bodily autonomy AND he's committing genocide by killing all the other habitable planets AND he kills his closest friends a second time when they learn the truth about him AND he half-resurrects his own daughter to use as a weapon AND he's a neoliberal fascist and serial liar and in all his time searching for revenge, he still hasn't noticed that revenge is out for him instead

Ted had long since made his peace with the lines in the sand - the purebloods, irrevocably convinced of their own superiority, on one side, and he, his friends, his loved ones, his wife and child, merely trying to survive, on the other. To say there wasn't any resentment left would be a lie - but even today, faced with Alecto Carrow, a woman who's resentment bordered on the level of ire Ted expected only from Andromeda's family, he couldn't muster the full strength of it.

His brows knitted together for a moment before he smiled only a little, nodding. "Indeed she would, miss Carrow. But I don't think she should have to." He rocked a little on his feet. "And Dora can wait a little longer."

Alecto was gathering a few items to take back home, now that she was recovered from the incident, yet it felt weird not being at the Lestrange Manor, tucked away in Rabastan's wing. A part of her missed it. Thoughts drifted back on the last few days they spent together, a smile almost twisting on her lips, until she was pulled back from a voice, fingers clenching around the bottle of ink.

She turned to come face to face with a man who took one of her closest friends from her. "I'm sure Andromeda will know how to clean up the mess." A bitterness to her tone.

i think a lot about hot sauce and jeannemary. two young girls so ready to kill and to die. a comparison made all the worse when you recall that hot sauce lost all her family to the cohort, that she can specifically recall fourth style necromancy (using corpses as bombs). a fourteen and thirteen year old that could easily have been on opposite sides of the same front line.

The owl hadn't been a surprise - though it had, predictably as ever, caused Zeus to go into a sulk until he registered exactly who the owl belonged to. Amycus had been expecting a summons from his sister for days now, but he knew better than to suggest to her that she was slipping. He tugged at the sleeve of his suit jacket, giving the house elf that greeted him a nod of acknowledgement.

His brows lifted in amusement, smile quirking the corners of his lips up at the sight of his sister. "Darling sister," he drawled with a quickening smile, "no need to get up on my account." He settled into the upholstered chair and plush dark fabric, not needing to peruse the drinks offered because he knew she'd have whatever he requested. "Whiskey, you know the one." Once the glass was pressed against his palm, he spared his sister a long glance. "Was there a particular reason for your summoning?"

Alecto had sent an owl to her brother, requesting his presence for lunch, a conversation was dire considering what had transpired of his betrothal and she wished to share news herself; only a few she would confide in private matters. Certain a conversation needed to placid their mother for a short period of time.

A house elf ushered to collect Amycus upon his arrival, she sat in one of the lounge chairs, a book in hand, looking up upon his entrance. "Hello dear brother," a faint smile lingers on her features, "I hope you are hungry." A hand gestures for him to sit down. "Would you like something to drink?"

yeah, your boyfriend? the one you blessed with necromantic abilities, hoping he'd save you? i really hate to tell you this, but he started a cult. yeah, they have capes. and eyeliner. he also made a wall out of cows and sheep. you should probably talk to him. tbh he seems really upset.

I've fallen off of the Upcoming Release train since leaving twitter so if you have any recommendations I am ALL EARS let me get HYPED about something!

in terms of things ive added to goodreads that arent out yet, We Shall Be Monsters sounds neat and learned recently Sarah Beth Durst has a new book out this year called The Spellshop! actually hang on double checking and Monsters was released in February LOL NYOOPS

anyway. Opening this up to you Panda, and everyone else, give me your most anticipated releases so I can be excited about something with yall
