While I absolutely love the idea of Alec and Magnus adopting another kid, I am infinetly more terrified of this potential child bringing the Lightwood curse down upon them- anytime there are 3 Lightwood siblings Cassie always kills one of them

Jace, Kit, and Mina shenanigans
Jace was visiting with Kit; Clary was spending time with her mother and Luke, as she always did when Jace went on his monthly visit to Kit. And they would tell each other all about their day when they went to bed together that night.
Jace would never have said it out loud but he wanted Kit to rely on him and need him, he wanted to be needed by him. He wanted Kit to trust him, but more than that he wanted Kit to know he really did care for him.
Tessa had also recently had her baby, Mina. She had said Jace should come by and meet her.
Tessa and Jem were good people, and Jace just hoped Kit wouldn't be like he was and push away from his found family, and hold them at a far distance. But he remembered people had to follow their own journey and learn things for themselves. He just wanted Kit to be happy. But Jace also knew, like him, Kit had some baggage and it made it difficult.
"Jace?" said Kit. They were sitting at the kitchen table drinking tea.
"Yeah. . .?" he said, realizing he hadn't been listening for the last few minutes.
"You didn't hear what I said, did you?" Kit sighed.
"I was zoning out thinking of interesting things," he teased.
"Probably not that interesting, considering it's you," Kit shot back playfully.
Jace grinned. This kid would be just fine, he thought.
"So," said Jace, "you're a big brother now."
"Yup. And I'll be great at it."
"There you go. There's the Herondale in you."
Kit stared at him with amusement, then said, "Tessa says you should hold Min Min."
"Min Min? Is that a  another nickname of hers?" If so Jace had to admit it was very cute.
"Yes. She has many nicknames," said Kit. "Because she is adorable."
"Kids and babies usually are."
Kit looked up. "You like kids, don't you?"
"They're alright."
Kit looked at him suspiciously. "Uh, huh." He then asked. "Well, are you and your hot fiancée Clary gonna have any?"
Jace choked on his tea. "What—what?" He thought he was probably flushing, as Clary always made him do even when she wasn't around. And Kit calling Clary that should be weird but he wasn't wrong, Clary was hot and his fiancée.
"Just saying, I'd make an amazing babysitter," Kit winked. "And I could teach your children all about memes and the future stuff, as well as turn them into my side. along with Mina. of course. They would be the best generation yet."
"Pffft," Jace let out.
It's true Jace and Clary had talked about having kids, but it was never a definite serious talk. Though Jace did want kids. "Why are you asking me this?"
"No reason."
"Uh, huh," he said. That was their thing, 'Uh, huh.'
Jem walked in then, holding who Jace assumed was Mina. "Hello, Jace," said Jem. "How are you?" He was smiling the warm smile that he he always had these days; Jace had thought it was the kind of smile that made you want to open up and trust. Jem was that kind of person who radiated kindness and warmth and goodness.
"I'm doing just fine," he said. "What about you?"
"I am amazing," he exclaimed. "Silly melon, is so beautiful and precious." Another cute nickname, he thought. "Would you like to hold her?" Jem asked.
"I. . .uh. . .sure," Jace said, hearing the unsureness his own voice, not knowing why it was there. Jem placed Mina in his arms; he couldn't help but remember holding Max for the first time, remembering that for the first time he had been absolutely terrified. Babies had always seemed so small and fragile to him, and at that time he had no idea how they worked. Of course, after Max Jace figured out that as he had said, they were tough. Max was not so little anymore, and now was on about killing all the demins, Jace was a very proud uncle. He looked down at Mina, she looked like Jem, he thought, but he could see Tessa as well. "Hello, Mina," he said.
The baby opened her eyes, looking up at Jace with an expression of curiosity. well, he assumed that's what it was. "curious are we?"
"She is," Kit put in. It was such a sibling thing, he thought.
Jem was watching the three of them with fondness, and a little sadness. Jace wondered if he was thinking of his parabatai Will Herondale; Jem had told Jace about him, and couldn't imagine not having Alec or being alive without Alec. It had made Jace feel a deep kind of sympathy for Jem.
Jace repositioned Mina in his arms so he could look her in the eyes. "So," he said. "Are you going to prank and trick your big brother?"
Kit stuck his tongue out at Jace, and Jace rewarded Kit by sticking his own tongue out right back at him.
Mina giggled, Jace felt his heart skip a beat. He'd made her giggle. It reminded Jace of hearing Max giggle for the first time, it had instantly defeated Jace, in a sense. Blueberry had had a place in Jace's heart from the beginning, Jace couldn't help but want to protect him, it had been the same with Rafe, and even young Emma and her braveness. And Jace thought it would probably be the same with Kit and Mina; he had a soft spot for kids. He had also realized that he had cared for Max, his little brother, the same. But that was a place that Jace tried not to venture to, as it only broke his heart all over again. Jace remembered how Izzy had told him that Max died clutching the toy soldier he'd given him all those years ago, it had shaken Jace. Max's death would always leave a missing piece in their family.
"I take that giggle as a yes," he said.
Jem laughed softly.
"Or," Kit said, "we might prank you endlessly and be chaotic rascals that haunt you."
"Bring it on, Kittiroo," Jace said, using the nickname he had for Kit. Knowing it was longer than his actual nickname but he gave a nickname to kids he liked. And Kit liked it, but would never admit it, ever.
"Whatever, Jacey Jace," he said.
They laughed.
——————
[ Two years later ]
Mina was now two, which meant her and her big brother Kit were up to no good when they came to visit or Jace went to visit them.
They both enjoyed playing tricks on Jace. And to think he made them cookies and tea. And played piano for them.
Jace was walking down one of the Institute corridors, looking through the open doors along their walls, trying to see if he could find the little trouble makers.
He was peering through one of the empty rooms when something came up behind him and said "Boo!"
He turned around, pretended to be scared as he saw it was little Mina. "Oh, you got me," he said.
She laughed. "I always get you."
He smiled at her. "Where's Kit?"
She shrugged.
"Little loyal one, you are," he said. "But if you tell me where he is, I'll give you a cookie."
Mina seemed to be considering this. "Come," she said.
Mina led him to another empty room, where they found Kit.
"Traitor!" he said.
"It's not her fault—" Jace began.
"Not Mina. You," Kit pointed. "I know you bribed her with cookies. You know we can't resist cookies."
"What can I say," said Jace. "I'm a master at bribery."
"Uh, huh," Kit said with a kind of sassy sarcasm. Kit also said 'Uh, huh.' in a way to say he is amused but very doubtful
"Hey, man. I can't help it, cookies are good," said Mina.
"It's not your fault, Min Min," said Kit. "It's the bad man's fault."
Jace gasped in pretend hurt. "The very implicaction of that is hurtful."
"Good," Kit said.
And Jace went over to lift the boy up. "You forget I'm bigger and stronger than you."
"No!" exclaimed Kit, but he was laughing, and Jace always liked to hear him laugh out loud.
"Fight him off, Kit," said Mina.
They ended up wrestling on the floor with Mina cheering for Kit like the loyal sister she was. Them when they were both tired they burst into laughter.
——————
Kit, Jace, and Mina were sitting on a couch while Jem talked about reincarnation; 2 old Mina wore a serious face for her age.
"You see this is why I believe in it so strongly," said Jem, beaming.
"Yes, I see," said Jace.
"It is interesting," Kit said.
Mina nodded.
"Just think about it," Jem said, "you come back in a different form or something new after you die."
Jace wasn't sure he wanted to do this again, and by the look on Kit's face it appeared he felt the same.
"So is that why I'm so exhausted?" asked Kit, "because I've lived so many lives? And keep doing this shit again?"
It was a fair question to ask, Jace thought.
"Kit, no," said Jem. "And don't say that word in front of Min Min."
"Alec says something like that to me all the time," Jace put in. "Except it's usually 'Jace no!'"
"Yeh, well, you're both chaotic dum dums," said Mina.
They all looked at her.
"Wat?" she said.
Jem seemed to be wearing a look of amused agreement.
She was two and yet so smart, and had so many words at times.
"I prefer the term not afraid to take chances," said Jace.
"It's a Herondale thing," put in Kit.
Jace grinned at him. "There you go, bud."
Mina rolled her eyes, she also had a lot of sass for her age. Jem stared at them with a sort of affectionate exasperation.
——————
Jace was sitting beside Kit while he showed him memes and what they meant. Mina came to sit down beside them.
"Jace," she said.
"Yeah, Mina?"
"So you're like my great kind of nephew, right?"
"Great great great or something, yeah."
"So than I am like your great something aunt?"
"Yeah. . ." This would never not be weird.
"Does that mean I get to boss you around?"
Jace didn't know what to say to this.
Kit looked up from his screen. "Wait, does that mean technically I'm your adoptive great something uncle, now?"
"I. . ." Jace had to admit he didn't know what to say to any of this. "Are you two trying to confuse me?" he asked.
They both grinned mischievously.
Jace sighed.
"Hey, dear Nephew," Kit said. "Make me some cookies."
"Dear Nephew," Mina added. "Get us tea."
"You two think you're hilarious."
"Wrong," said Kit, "we know we're hilarious."
"Yeah well," Jace said, pulling them both into the hug, "I'd like to see you get free from my hug."
"No!" They both exclaimed, then tried to get free which turned into laughter from them all.
——————
Jace heard his phone buzz. He looked at it and saw that it was a message from Kit, he'd sent Jace a meme. Jace didn't always understand them, but apparently they were like jokes. He replied with laughing emojis.
He exited his messaging app and stared his phone background; it was a picture of Max, Rafe, Mina, and Kit in the art room with Clary, who was teaching them to paint. He smiled at it. It was odd to say, but they were his kids in a way and he felt this strong urge to protect them from the world that would try to shut out their light.
He remembered the first time Kit had seen he'd taken picture and used it as his phone background. Kit looked surprised, as if he couldn't think of why Jace would do that. Jace ruffled his hair and quoted one of his memes to him that day. Kit liked to communicate with memes, and so Jace tried his best. Kit had also called Jace a mom a few times, though he wasn't sure why.
His phone buzzed again. This time it was Emma, her message said, "We need to form the sword-blondes club *winking emoji*" Jace couldn't help but laugh, then replied, "The world would've be able to handle that."
He had so many kids and young people who were dear to him now. Sometimes he thought back to his old self, who didn't have much of anyone and who believed that love was weakness. But now, when he looked at these kids, he knew that was lie. Now, he knew he was strongest because of love. He barely remembered it, but thought about the time he first met Jem, he'd been Brother Zachariah then. He'd told him, 'We fight best when that which we love is on the line.' or something along those words. It made Jace smile, to think somehow all this connected, the universe was a strange thing.
He then looked down at the engagement ring on his left ring finger. At some point him and Clary would work toward building a family, and have kids of their own. It both excited and frightened Jace; he wanted to be a father, of course. But he didn't want to snap one day and see his father come out, he didn't want his children to ever have to see something like that. Clary told him he wouldn't be like that, and she was always right, usually. These kids in his life now though, he felt were proof that he could be a good father.
He opened his phone back up and texted Kit a meme.
He was rewarded with, "Well, I'll be damed. He's learning!"
Jace replied with, "Watch your language."
"You watch your own language, Mr. acts like my parent."
Jace laughed. Kids were so odd yet so precious, they were the future, he thought.

I've had such a busy week- how do ppl socialise on a regular basis?? 0/10 would not recommend
I finally got the time to look at the trailer properly and catch on all the snippets and art and quotes an AAAAGHHH I AM SO EXCITED FOR PARTIII BRO. Everything (specially the lbaf gang) look so so so so so perfect and bful???? I can't wait for the ships to sail specially Rosewood-
I was just chilling with some friends and these stupid ass angsty hc came to my mind so I thought I'd share it with you.
Alec who had always preferred walking now uses a portal everytime he has to commute from the loft to the institute. it's because every time he walks down the stairs he gets panic attacks remembering finding his son's body with a sword in his chest (Jace gets it because it's exactly what he feels about parks and the greenhouse)
Magnus doesn't say ily to Max for sometime because he feels like if Max doesn't say ily back this time too, after he hurt and misjudged his son so badly, his immortal heart might actually finally break
Rafael doesn't regret a single thing he does but, sometimes he gets nightmares of that night where his dad could've gotten a heart attack and died.
David doesn't read for a while. He still believes in heroes and what they represent but he can't forgive himself for his lifelong dream of being saved and how it almost got Max killed.
One night, Jace takes Selena into his arms and tells her about the devil who made her kill Clary a thousand times over in his dreams and they both cry together that night.
Izzy is so relieved that things are getting better now but sometimes she feels like it's a little unfair that everyone got their kids back while she didn't. She instantly feels guilty for the thought and is so glad that Rafe and David are back because these past few weeks have felt like she had three dead brothers and not just one.
(word of advise: lbaf and drinking is not a good combo- you dont wanna start crying and then having to explain your friends about the plot and the fact that you are on tumblr)
Its tuesday today which means-
Tumblr media
First of all,
Fuck.
Some of these plot lines are already there (can’t see which ones bye) and once again I’m so stunned (and emotional) about how much you have understood these characters.
The Magnus one fucked me up ngl. Why is that man so angsty 😢
Also damn baby you are such a good writer I can’t 😭😭😭😭
Also not a lbaf and alcohol is not a good combo you say? I have plans get very drunk during the holidays so like 🤪🤪🤪🤪
Thank you so so so much for sharing these. I don’t know what to say except that this is unbelievably good (and painful jfc)
I’ll see you on Friday.
PS - this is me right now

Be a Shadowhunter, Kill All the Demins!
Summary: “You know I’ll have to tell your parents, right?”
“I don’t care. They were wrong,” Max looked defiantly at Ragnor, puffing his cheeks again. “Daddy protects everyone who needs. I protect too. I want to be like daddy.”
OR, 5 times Max wanted to be like Alec + 1 time he was happy to be like Magnus
~
This work is for two events that have the same goal - spread all the love for Alec Lightwood-Bane on this very special day ❤ For Alec’s Birthday Weekend Celebration organized by the lovelies @chibi-tsukiko and @my-archerboy, and for the Alec Lightwood Birthday Surprise event on Malec Discord.
Happy birthday to our dear Consul/Inquisitor who loved a man so much, he changed the world for him 🥰❤
~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Read on AO3)
1. Debriefing
Several nests of eidolon demons popped up in the Queens area, and Alec had to call an urgent meeting to explain the situation to his subordinates and distribute their tasks and split them into teams.
Everyone paid unwavering attention to their leader until someone else caught their attention.
A very small and blue someone.
Without Alec noticing, Max had sneakily gone next to him, and started nodding his head and imitating his daddy’s scowl as if he was the one giving orders to the Shadowhunters. He even moved his hands like Alec and sometimes would put them on his hips with a proud look.
It took some time for him to realize Alec had stopped speaking for a moment and was looking at him with arched eyebrows.
Max giggled and turned to the Shadowhunters again.
“Kill all the demins!”
Alec pressed his lips on a thin line, trying to not laugh, and also turned to everyone in the Ops Center.
“You heard him. Dismissed.”
2. Archery
“What are you doing?”
At the sound of his brother’s voice, Max jumped slightly and accidentally shoot upwards, hitting one of the balcony’s lamps.
“Rafe!” Max whined and pouted. He hasn’t heard Rafe approaching, and it was the same for his daddy. Shadowhunters were good to walk without making a sound, and he hated the fact that he couldn’t do the same. To be a Shadowhunter he had to walk silently!
It was then that Rafael noticed all the toy arrows scattered around the floor – none at the big bullseye target.
“Were you practicing again?”
“Yes! Must be a Shadowhunter like daddy. He loves his bow, so I love too.”
“Your aim is terrible.”
Max pouted again, his lips trembling.
“I be better. Be a Shadowhunter!”
Rafe sighed long and deeply, then nodded.
“I will train with you.”
Max bounced and promptly ran to collect all the arrows on the floor. He was going to be the best archer in the world!
3. Shaving
Alec hated undercover missions. Not only they took days – sometimes even weeks – to get done, but they were also always far away from home. And sweet Raziel, he missed home. He missed his sons, his cats, his bed. More than anything, he missed Magnus.
So, after almost twelve days in a dangerous mission in Cairo, he was finally back in New York. And after a good night's sleep, the first thing he did in the morning while Magnus was still asleep was shaving. His stubble was almost growing into a full beard, and as much as his husband liked his – in Magnus’ own words – caveman look, Alec preferred his face clean shaved.
When he was halfway through it, he noticed Max standing on the bathroom’s threshold, looking at him with big, curious eyes. Alec smiled at his baby, then went back to his task. A minute later, not only Max stood next to him, but also had almost his entire face covered in white cream.
“Daddy, me too!” Max whined, making grabby hands at his razor.
Alec chuckled, fondly shaking his head. Then, he reached for a new razor and took out the blade, proceeding to give only the plastic part to Max.
“Pay attention to how I do and copy, okay?”
The beaming smile Max gave him was answer enough.
4. Cooking
For once, it was afternoon and Alec wasn’t working. However, Magnus was at a warlock meeting in Nevada, and Rafael was at the Institute with Jace and Simon. So, Alec and Max decided to try and make a surprise for Magnus and Rafe.
Baking cupcakes proved to be harder than Alec anticipated.
“Daddy, daddy! Taste this,” Max offered a big spoon with a brownish substance, and being at the receiving end of Izzy’s food for a long time, Alec thought nothing more could surprise him.
Looked like his son went beyond his expectations, and he had to put his better neutral face to not grimace.
“Max, what have you put in this batter?”
“Choco. Coco. Chalk. Nannamon,” Max enumerated with his fingers while Alec had to blink a couple of times, frowning.
“It’s cinna–” He stopped himself, having to make a double-check. “Did you just say chalk?”
“Yeah!” Max pointed to a bowl full of them near a blackboard Magnus liked to use to write ingredients or to give points to Max and Rafe when they completed a task with success. Ten points and they were awarded whatever food they wanted.
“By the Angel…” Alec mumbled “I’ll have to talk to Magnus about that, and you,” he poked Max’s belly, gaining delightful giggles from him. “You can’t have the Lightwood’s bad skills for cooking, or bapa will prohibit us both to be in the kitchen.”
“I’ll be good, I promise!”
“I know, my baby, I know.”
5. Protector
“So…?” Ragnor crossed his arms on his chest and arched an eyebrow, waiting for one of the kids to talk.
This is why he didn’t want to accept the position at this new Downworld-Shadowhunter Academy. Kids were insufferable. One of them being Magnus’ son didn’t help either. It was a double headache.
He had to stop a fight from escalating to bigger proportions – one involving Max Lightwood-Bane, another warlock and one werewolf, both being five years older than Max. And both showing more bruises than Max.
“They were being mean to another boy!” Max puffed his cheeks, also crossing his arms. “I stop bad guys.”
“He was a Shadowhunter,” the werewolf snickered. “You only defended him because your brother and your father are one.”
“You should be ashamed to have a Shadowhunter father. They are disgusting,” the warlock added.
Angry wisps of magic started to circle around Max’s fingers.
“Don’t talk like that about daddy! He is the best. You are the dis… dis…”
“He doesn’t even know how to speak,” the werewolf spatted, clearly wanting to continue the previous fight.
“Enough!” Ragnor’s voice thundered in the small room and the door opened abruptly. “You two go to the Infirmary to treat those wounds. I will talk to you later. Max, you stay.”
The two older kids acquiesced, leaving Ragnor alone with little Max.
“You know I’ll have to tell your parents, right?”
“I don’t care. They were wrong,” Max looked defiantly at Ragnor, puffing his cheeks again. “Daddy protects everyone who needs. I protect too. I want to be like daddy.”
Ragnor let out a heavy sigh.
“Lilith, you are going to be a pain when you get older. You have the same stubbornness and bad attitude of those two idiots.”
“Yes!” Max agreed, even if he didn’t understand why Uncle Ragnor was talking bad things about his parents. But bapa said once that when Uncle Ragnor insulted someone, he was truly praising them, so Max shouldn’t be worried.
It was enough.
+1. Magic
Max heard the opening and closing of the entrance’s door, meaning his daddy finally arrived from his patrol. Excited, he left his room and ran to greet his daddy, when he saw something he wasn’t really expecting.
Alec had face planted on the couch, his clothes stained with ichor and blood.
Max’s heart beat a bit stronger, his face frowning in concern.
“Daddy?”
Alec hummed, but didn’t move. Was he sleeping? Max approached and saw his daddy with closed eyes. Why he wasn’t healing himself? Glancing at the cuts thought Alec’s ripped clothes, Max felt like crying.
His daddy was in pain. He… He had to do something. He had to help. What bapa did when daddy was hurt? He would wave his hands, right?
Frowning even more in concentration while scrunching his nose, Max tried to bring out his magic, only thinking about taking away his daddy’s pain. Some sparks flew to Alec’s skin, but he didn’t know if it was working.
For as much as Max wanted to be a Shadowhunter too, he would be happy to continue being a warlock if he could heal his daddy. And bapa. And Rafe.
“Max?” Alec slurred, blinking his eyes open and looking unfocused at his son.
“Daddy!” Max hugged him, still trying to send magic into his body. “I will heal you, daddy. I promise.”
“I know,” Alec smiled, closing his eyes again. “I’m already much better, my baby.”
“You are?”
Of course Alec knew Max didn’t know any healing spells, and the pain was still there – he drew some Iratzes, but there was a small dose of non-lethal toxin from the demons he fought that was preventing the healing rune to take effect. Magnus would have to help him with that.
“I am. You are amazing, Max. Just like your bapa.”
And although there wasn’t healing in Max’s magic, there was a warmth that only his son could give him. It was different from Magnus, but oh, so good.
It was like knowing that your home grew bigger.
Home was Magnus. Home was Max and Rafe.
Home was where the Lightwood-Banes existed.
The Idiots In My Life
A Mortal Instruments fanfiction
SUMMARY: my version of the sizzy wedding!!  focuses on the brother sister bond between Jace and Izzy! I feel like their sibling bond has been seriously overlooked!
-----------
A year ago, war hero Simon Lovelace finally got the courage to get down on one knee before Isabelle Lightwood, the heartbreaker. The engagement party was as grand as it could be, after all, it was planned by none other than Magnus Bane, high warlock of Brooklyn. Now, counting down seconds, sat Izzy in a beautiful golden dress. Leave it to Izzy to make heads turn, she decided to pair the elegant gold silk dress with 7inch high combat boots. Nerves were never a thing for her, that wasn’t gonna change now. She felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned around to find both her brothers is crisp black suits. Amazing how parabatai as chaotic as them, managed to look so elegant for their baby sister. Guess everyone has a soft side…
Izzy POV “Well, look who’s finally ready”, I said while deliberately looking at Jace. Honestly! The boy takes longer than me to get ready! And I’m the one getting married!
“Oh, excuse me for looking illegally handsome,” he says smirking, then turning to Alec, he continues “Even on her wedding day she doesn’t keep quiet!” Alec shakes his head laughing and turns to me. His eyes reflect all those years he spent being the perfect big brother. “We came to see if you’re alright, as your men of honour, I think its our duty.” Alec said smugly. “I’m fine big brother, its time isn’t it… Now or never.” I say with a huge smile. Jace and Alec fall into step to each of my side as the music begins, the curtains are drawn and the ceremony begins. I see Simon at the other end of the room in a gold suit grinning ear to ear. He’s already tearing up, that doof. ------ Jace POV My baby sister is married. Wow… realisation hits hard doesn’t it… I feel a presence behind me. I turn to find Magnus. “So, blondie, I’m assuming you’re ready for the toast?” he asks. “What toast?” I ask nonchalantly. “You better not mess this up barbie, I put way too much effort into planning this.” He warned. We both shared a casual look before we end up smiling. He’s keeping Alec so happy, so, over the months, we’ve got along. Not that I would admit it and stuff. I part ways with him and reached for a champagne glass, I tapped it lightly with my spoon to gather attention. Most people turned, but for those chatter boxes who didn’t, I had plans. I stood on the table and yelled, “You complete idiotic excuses for shadowhunters listen for god’s sake! At least the downworlders don’t treat weddings as a gossip centre !” That’s it. I had the attention I needed. Izzy looked ready to kill me. Not waiting to test that theory, I cleared my throat and started, “You guys have gathered here today to see my sister get married to that doof. Seriously Izzy, what has happened to your choice! Anyways, I wanted to say… well… Izzy, I know I haven’t always been the perfect big brother, like Alec, but I wanted to tell you, I tried. I tried to be there for you when you cried yourself to sleep after your first training, I tried to be there for you when Maryse was a little too hard on you, I tried to be there when max… when max died, I tried to be there when Simon lost his memories, I tried to be there when he got them back. I know I’m no Alec, but I’ll try all my life, till my last breath, to be the brother you deserve. Simon’s a great guy, I’ll admit it, as much as it kills me to. I may not be lightwood by blood, but we’re closer than blood could bring us. I promise you Isabelle, I will die before I let anything happen to you, it’s always been like that… I love you sister; I love you Isabelle Sophia Lightwood.”
I looked at my glass for a few moments before looking at the crowd again. I’m not quite used to the whole ‘showing emotions is okay’ thing.  Alec looked proud, Simon shocked, Magnus and Clary looked at me with identical smiles, and Iz, she got up from her seat and walked up to me. Much to everyone’s surprise, she hugged me. She’s never one to show emotions. She looked up at me with that Lightwood smirk and said, “Thank you Jace, thank you for being one of the two amazing idiots in my life. Thank you for being my big brother.”
Clary Fray Gets Married. (My First Story On Wattpad) My Reaction After 3 Years.
Tumblr media
So This story is going to be deleted from Wattpad on 12/18/2020. Due to how messy the story is. But I don’t reccomend reading it. So if you want to read the mess before then here is the link:
Clary Fray Gets Married
Masterlist
One paragraph is a single chapter
So Maia just got killed and Sebastian is back. That's a cheesy line. How would they be able to invite you to the wedding if they thought you were dead. Not that they would anyway. Clary is sacrificing herself for everyone. All these misspellings though, well it was my first story on here and I never edited it and I wrote it on my phone. That was short af. Well my original word count was 500 but later in the story I am pretty sure I switched it to my current 2000.
The incest plotline though, *throws up* I was trying to continue the idea of Sebastian thinking that the bloodline had to be pure. And Clary's pregnant. Jace's pov, the language was the worst in this story. Clary pov. Sebastian wants to make another demon child. Trama. Sebastian is a vampire but a new breed. Mark of Cain?
So we are starting this chapter with Trama warnings. Jace is blood thirsty and I don't blame him. This is the cringest this I've ever written and that's saying a lot. Clary made a run to hurt him. It can't be that easy.
Sebastian told Jace that was pregnant. Jace just cut of his head and he's still alive? These 500 word chapter get annoying fast.
Threatening Alec for Magnus to put up wards. That's one way to do it ig. You want the Infernal Cup too? Now he only wants Jace and Clary there.
Not much happened in this chapter but Sebastian raided Clary's closet from the Insitute.
A protective Jocelyn tho. This language is not how I would write this today.
It's like every other word is F*ck. This is so cringey. This is supposed to be first person pov not whatever you wanna call that. So much flopping back and forth between povs and I didn't make the pov change very noticeable either.
Really you're taking his head off again? Well it gave you time to get away ig.
This conversation feels forced. It doesn't flow right.
Clary is insisting on getting married before Sebastian can screw it up any more.
Magnus calling Simon by his actual name??? How did Jace just pop up like that?
What the hell was going on it that small pov with Sebastian and Lilith? "...revealing his father in a new form." Valentine? Wtf? Yeah it is Valentine and he hates what his son did.
Jace and Clary are finally getting married.
Valentine it pissed at Sebastian. Clary thinks it's halirious that he's a downworlder now. Karma is a bitch. Clary really just stabbed him in throat after he offered to help you kill your brother and Lilith?
Now why is Sebastian so worked up over a missing necklace? And Jocelyn just found out about Valentine and she shookth.
Jace has a half sister? And Luke has a niece? I don't remember this plotline but this story was all over the place.
Who is Lilith gonna bring back now? Carmen Herondale, Jace's sister.
Sebastian and Carmen reunited.
Sebastian never wanted this for Carmen? She's made at him but not for the reason you think. He was going to propose to her the night she was killed? Valentine is the reason she's dead? Clary just killed him.
Carmen is a murderer? And she got away.
I didn't even realize Simon didn't go.
Carmen you touch Alex or Max I will kill you.
He gave her the wrong spell thankfully.
Tessa is dead? The author's note was not it.
Even in a shitty fanfic Max is adorable.
Carmen's adoptive mundane father was a gang leader in Paris? What kind of crack was I smoking while writing this?
Simon compared her to Assassin's Creed. Why did Clary just pass out?
So the kid is basically going to be a full blown angel. Interesting. And the last thing she remembers is taking the pregnancy test?
That is some Twilight shit right there.
Aww Alec wants to propose to Magnus.
Her pregnancy is getting intense.
That line is so cringey wtf. Sebastian is back?
So I kinda remember the person who originally raised Lilith but tbh I regret writing Carmen's charcther because the next few chapter don't make any sense.
Clary's eyes changed colors. I really don't remember writing half of this because I was going through some stuff at the time.
The unnecessary pov switch tho. Clary just made a new Rune.
Magnus may have found a way to make Shadowhunters immortal?
Why would you try a rune on a trash can?
So everyone one agreed to going immortal. That would suck. And there was a rune made with the oil based paint Clary used. This is confusing af. I am sorry to anyone who has ever read this.
Max calls Clary, Aunt Clary. Wtf does he have to be so cute?
More Max being adorable.
Alec and Magnus are engaged. This makes me happy. Sebastian projected himself into the Insitute?
New Character is introduced: Emily Starkweather. Hodge's daughter and Lydia Blackwell's half sister and she hates her.
I made Lydia Blackwell very homophobic because I made Emily bi sexual and that's why they hate each other. Emily is traitor. Sebastian loves her? And is cheating on Carmen with her. This is very confusing. Emily is gonna teach Izzy how to cook.
Raphael got her addicted to Yin Fen. I really mixed The show and the book together. This bitch is lying her ass off to them.
Sebastian and Emily are planning to get rid of Carmen.
She's planning on killing so many people and pinning it on them.
Emily has some Trama TM
She is going to kill her mother.
Lowkey think Jace is getting sus of her. Carmen is dead.
They just found out she's a traitor.
Joyce, Luke, Myrse and Robert are all dead wtf and the baby is coming.
Emily has a good reason to trust Sebastian tho. He did save her life.
Lilith thought she was dead? Who do u think rose you from Edom?
They don't know Carmen id dead yet? Alec ripped into Lydia. Compared her to Valentine. Big ope. Emily is the 3rd Angel experiment.
Emily and Sebastian  are planning on kidnapping Lydia. Emily's angel blood is Lucifer's wtf? Emily called her sister a Stupid Ass Bitch and I'm living for it. And she's been kidnapped.
Sebastian just turned her? Ew. The left-handed joke. They summoned Lucifer for some reason.
Emily is absolutely crazy.
So she did kill her mother... I didn't make that very clear. Jace and Alec want them to make Amends so that she doesn't murder Shadowhunters. Sweetie I think it's far too late for that. Lydia is officially dead. How could she be preggers if she's a vampire? And now her mother is still alive? Jocelyn, Luke, Maryse and Robert are alive still too? Emily's mom admitted to everything. I also started going to 2000 word chapters.
Lilith is acting like a bitch, kinda. They are attacking the clave. Lilith summoned a shit ton of demons. The end of the chapter is kinda intense tho.
Raphael? Wtf are you doing here? Hodge?  They are testing by mortal sword. This is kinda confusing. Why was this the most read story on my wattpad before Avenging Riverdale?
Flashback scene to when they first met.
Then there was a short chapter. About a prochey
Time skip. The baby is coming. A blue and a black eye? Sebastian's eyes flickered green? Magnus wants to figure how to bring out the Johnathan in him.
Emily plans on making Sebastian stays Sebastian.
That was a shitty chapter.
And I forgot I discountinted it... Sorry about that.
Overall I am happy I discountinted you. It is a horrible book and I am embarrassed by it to be honest. This is my first book on wattpad so I think it's pretty normal but it wasn't my first piece of fanfic. My first work was on Fanfic.net but has since been deleted by the website. I don't know why it wasn't bad at all it was more fluff than anything. But I have decided that I am going to post this and then I'm going to take down the story in a month. I failed to put trigger warnings, failed to edit (to be fair that was back when I did all of my writing on my phone before I had am actual laptop). But I did have some good ideas when it came to the traitor part and Sebastian finding love and I deem this story on crack. So my final rating is a 2/10.
equal, hermano
The second Rafael and Max were through the front door of the loft Max ducked, practically running, into their shared room the slam of the door reverberating across the whole apartment. Rafe let out a deep sigh, he knew his little brother would have locked the door by now so he dropped his bag by the door and shuffled towards the kitchen. Defeat was not a feeling Rafe enjoyed, neither was helplessness. Especially when it concerned his little brother.
He was born lucky, he knew it-he'd been raised to know and appreciate that fact. As a shadowhunter birthright is often the first thing you're taught at the institute. But his parents had also taught him the privilege it bought him in their world, the struggles he would never have to face all because he got lucky in the lottery of existence. Many in their world would tell him his brother was born unlucky, pulled the short straw. The same was often said about his Papa. Rafe never really understood it all, all he saw of them was the fact Max healed every injured creature he came across since the age of three, and the fact his Papa conjured waffles when he was sad, Max made runes dance on the ceiling in shimmering purple when studying was melting his brain, his Papa helped save the world. He didn't understand the people who hated them. He doubted he ever would. He also would never understand the people making his little brother want to lock himself away in their room. Rafe knew he needed to think of something. To him, Max had always been equal sometimes he even considered the fact Max was superior to him in plenty of ways. He and his family saw Max like that, but he wanted everyone to.
That's when the idea hit him. Rounding the corner into the kitchen, he heard the soft hum of classical music-his Dads favourite- and saw his fathers gently swaying along together as they prepared dinner. Perfectly in-sync with each other. He almost didn't want to interrupt. Almost.
'Uh. Dad, Papa, can I ask you about something?'
They both jumped a little at the presence of their son bursting the little bubble they'd created but composed themselves quickly.
Magnus spoke first.
'Of course sweet pee, always. What's up?' Both Magnus and Alec had lent against the breakfast bar, opposite their eldest son sitting on the bar stool.
'How does the alliance rune work?'
Neither of them was prepared for that question-it was written all over their faces. They shared a glance. With that glance they shared a whole a conversation, Alec placed his hand gently on the back of Magnus' arm just above his elbow-their secret sign of support.
'Well, your Aunt Clary saw it just before the war with Valentine.' Magnus always said his name like that, as if it left a bitter taste in his mouth. His whole family did. Rafe hadn't heard it all, but he was sure it did.
Alec continued, they always spoke like this. Flowing perfectly one after the other-together.
'It binds the two who share it, I and your father share it with each other. I can use your Papas abilities, as he can use mine. I could use it to conjure a portal, and he could light up a seraph blade.'
They both got a faraway look in their eyes as Magnus finished.
'I'm almost certain that rune saved at least a thousand lives. Certainly mine and your Dads. But it was also a changing moment in the relationship between Shadowhunters and Downworlders. We fought side by side. It was truly incredible.'
Alec's arm had slid entirely around Magnus' waist as he'd been talking. Rafe's perfect example of the two worlds unity. They'd always taught him unity was strength. Love was power, and alliance was always the answer.
He knew exactly what needed to be done. He smiled broadly, a determined glint in his eye.
'Are they busy tonight?' They know who he meant. 'Can you get them over in the next half hour? Uncle Simon, Aunt Clary, and Papa are especially important. Uhh, don't tell Jace and Izzy I said that. Or Grandma.'
Alec chuckled. 'Sure buddy, your secrets safe with us, I wouldn't wanna inflict that on anybody. We'll give them all a call now. But, uh, why?'
'I'll explain when they get here, just get calling it needs to happen soon-its important.'
And with that he was gone, flying off the bar stool into the office leaving his parents to share a confused look before dialing the phone.
Exactly thirty minutes later his whole family was assembled in the living room, Rafe sat crossed legged on the coffee table in the center. Magnus and Alec, Alec with a leg slung lazily across his husbands lap, next to each other on the sofa. Jace next to Alec, with his Aunt Clary on the arm of the chair one foot in Jace's lap, the other on Simon's shoulder. Who'd been forced to sit on the floor for arriving last. Aunt Izzy and his grandma sat on the armchairs either ends of the coffee table. The only one missing was Max. Everyone noticed. Rafe began.
'Okay, so you've all noticed our little buddy blueberry isn't here. In fact, he hasn't left our room since we got back from training today.'
Concern spread across each of their faces. Magnus took Alec's hand.
'That's because today someone hurt him, pretty badly. And I don't mean just physically, although that too.'
The concern melted into horror, and cold rage in all of them. Even Rafe felt the buds of it rising again in his stomach. It was Simon who spoke. Always his Uncle Simon to hold some composure. He was good like that.
'What exactly, did they do to him, Rafael?' His voice quiet, as if he didn't really want to hear. He imagined they probably didn't. They'd known Max since he was a baby, tiny and defenseless. That image still hadn't really gone away. Even now he was ten, and able to do magic it took Warlocks hundreds of years to master, he was the family baby.
'Well first of all Max beat this kid in a race, totally fair and square. We got told to use any ability we had, and well Max just happens to be able to teleport. Really they should have been more specific. But anyways. This kid was not happy about that, jealous if you ask me. His pride was hurt, badly. He storms over to Max and calls him a cheater. Then punches him.'
The atmosphere in the room said it all. Fury filled every member of his family, he felt bad telling them about it but they needed to know for this to make sense. He ignored the nauseating feeling rising in his throat as he remembered the rest. He continued.
'This kid is big, I'm talking my age, a head taller than Max and five years of ShadowHunter training literally written all over him. He's towering over Max and I can feel it, you feel his magic you know? That shit is strong-'
'Language Rafael. Just because you're fifteen doesn't mean the rules are off the table.' Cut in his Grandmother.
'Right, sorry. I go jogging over ready to fight this kid for squaring up my baby brother when he swings for him. Now we all know, me from experience, you don't swing at Max. In seconds he's across the room right into a wall.'
They share a glance between them all. The kind only a group of concerned adults can understand. Jace nods at Rafe, silently telling him to go on. Jace is never good at speaking when he's angry.
'Obviously, I'm turning to Max to calm him down when someones shoving me aside and catches Max off guard. He was looking at me, not focussing you know? He gets him. Right in the stomach.' Rafe's voice shakes a little as he continues.
'I'm seeing red. Max is barely recovering when I'm up.I-I broke his nose. You guys can punish me for that later, I don't care about a consequence. But now this kid is humiliated and in pain. A bad combination in a jackass.'
'I can't believe the trainers just let this happen.' Interrupts Maryse. Her voice stern, but the edges laced with anger.
'They weren't there, the kid picked the exact time an important Clave message came through so the trainer had to leave or something. But that isn't the actual bad part, not really anyways. He's yelling at me. A lot of swearing and cursing my family name which I was about to punch him again for-when he notices Max healing a little graze on my elbow from where he pushed me earlier. By the angel, Max is so soft. This kid says stuff that has totally destroyed Max okay. It's bad. I dunno if Papa is even gonna wanna hear it. That kinda stuff.'
Alec squeezes his hand Clary subconsciously looks down at Simon. So does his Aunt Izzy. They aren't stupid, they know the kind of stuff he means. Blue sparks are rising from his Papas other hand, a small burn mark forming in the arm of the chair. His Dads other hand is tapping hard against his thigh. He can see the anger in his Uncle's shoulders, both of them rigid all over. His Aunt Clarys eyebrows were knotted so tightly together it must have been hurting. His Aunt Izzy had an expression that could have killed, he imagined she was wishing it could.
'Its okay sweet pea. I've lived enough years to hear this.' Despite the usually soothing nickname, his Papas tone was ice cold.
Rafes own voice shook, a lump had risen in his throat. He was going to cry.
'He said 'I don't even know why this dirty warlock is even allowed in. He's half demon. Look at what he just did to me, he's dangerous. I guess you really can't tame half breed.' At this point, I'm screaming at him. Ready to rip into him, because Max apologises to plants he steps on and heals injured birds and sleeps in Batman pajamas.' At this point the tears are streaming down Rafes face, his hands shaking.
'He's not dangerous. He's so little he was just scared. Then he turns to me and says the worst part. 'I don't get why you're defending him. You're worse than that dad of yours. A few years ago you'd be hanging his horns on your mantlepiece as a prize. Why is he even part of your twisted little family? He can't even use a seraph blade. You've been tainted by the dirty demons in your house and your faggot of a dad. He then threw a blade at Max and taunted him because he cant use it and told him we'd never be really equal, no matter how brainwashed I was.' Rafe has said it all so fast he was out of breath, the front of his shirt wet with tears.
'Max broke one of his arms and both parts of his left leg. Blew up a light bulb then ran out the room. It took me twenty minutes to catch up with him. He was practically glowing purple he wouldn't let me touch him.'
Everyone in the room was stunned into silence. They'd all surpassed anger into full-blown rage.
'That's why I needed you all to come over. I'm gonna show him we've been equal since his tiny toddler hands made me a flower out of thin air. Aunt Clary, you can still draw that alliance rune right?'
Clary took a moment to compose herself, wiping a tear and sitting up a little straighter and pulling her mouth into a smile.
'Yeah Rafe, I can.'
'Perfect. I'll go get him.'
Outside their bedroom door, Rafe could feel the ice cold sadness of Max's magic. He loved his brother more than anyone, feeling his sadness broke his heart.
'Blueberry,hermano. I've got something to give you. Everyone's here, well because they all care Maxy. You've just gotta come into the living room.' He whispered through the gap under the door.
After a moment the door opened, revealing a tear stain Max. His blue cheeks burning a bright red, Rafe only ever saw them do that when he laughed too hard. He swore they never be red from tears as long as he lived. His blue eyes puffy, curly hair scruffy and disheveled from having a pillow over his head. He hadn't even gotten changed out of his clothes, one trouser leg bunched up around his knee.
'Okay.' Was all he said, barely a whisper. He trailed behind Rafe into the living room.
Concerned eyes follow them both as Rafe goes back to the coffee table. He moves over and gestures for Max to sit next to him. He refuses. Max won't meet any of there eyes. Not even Simons. Max always favoured Simon a little, he could see the heartbreak on his uncles face.
Suddenly Rafe was angry. Angry someone had made his brother feel he didn't deserve to be with his own family Anger Max had believed him.
'Maxy, sit next to me.' He patted the spot next to him again and smiled up at him. 'Come on buddy.'
Max sat on the edge of the table looking down at his Star Wars socks. A gift from Simon the birthday after they'd watched them all together. Max looked like he was about to start burning them off. His parents were holding each others hands so tight their knuckles were white. His Papa looked close to tears but he was wearing his unglamoured eyes- a statement.
'Okay, Aunt Clary lets go.' Rafe stated a cold determination in his tone.
She drew the rune on a piece of paper, it flowing perfectly from her hand.
Rafe took the piece of paper and began copying the rune onto the palm of his hand.
'Turn and face me.' Max did, still not looking up keeping a distance between their knees. Rafe moved forward so they were touching and placed his palm over Max's heart.
'Now you listen to me, Maxwell. You're sat in the middle of a group of people who found a baby, who was bright blue and didn't even consider you being anywhere but with them. They gave you the name Max as a gift. You have a better heart and soul then many a shadowhunter, you can do way more than any of us ever could. So quit crying. And give me your hand.' Rafe smiled as his brother finally met his gaze and placed his hand palm up in his hand.
Rafe traced the rune.
A surge of magic flooded through his system and he almost fell off the table. But something had caught him. His own palm was holding him up, three inches off the ground.
'Now that. Is awesome' Rafe laughed, sat up and looked at his brother.
He handed him a witchlight.
Max hesitated for a moment, he closed his hand around the stone. He'd try this a few times before, the stone always remained cold and blank in his hand. When he opened his palm the stone was alight with a bright light, tinted slightly purple. His face lit up almost as bright as the stone in his hand, and suddenly the tension in the room snapped and everyone jumped and cheered.
'Equal, hermano.' Whispered Rafe, so only his brother could hear.
'Equal, brother.' Max beamed back, the light behind his eyes was enough thanks for Rafe.
The next day when the boys were training together, testing their new found skills Max noticed him coming. Rafe felt the spike in magic as he entered the training room-coming straight for Max.
'Haven't learned your lesson yet warlock?' He sneered.
'Let me make it clear. You can't use our weapons or our runes. So why are you even here?' He dangled a seraph blade in front of Max's face and laughed.
Max took it from him, smiled and lit it up.
Rafe had never been prouder, and when they walked home Max was practically dancing down the street in joy.
That night all the family were over for dinner, Max smiled the entire time.
Shadowhunters Short Story #33.
It was a cold, frosty day in November and this month  marked 2 months since the battle with The Cohort and since The Clave left Idris. Everyone was working hard to get The Clave up and running smoothly again, in New York. Isabelle had been helping Alec out by helping him with his paper work and looking after Max and Rafe when he and Magnus both needed to be somewhere else, Alec hated leaving his boys but it always made him feel better when they were with family, he knew they loved their aunty Izzy and Uncle Simon and would have a wonderful time with them.
 Everything was quiet today, there were no meetings planned or anything, and everyone was taking the rare chance to spend some time at home, Jace and Clary were working on wedding plans, Magnus and Alec were spending the day at home with their boys, and Isabelle and Simon had planned to work on some wedding plans too. Right now, Simon was out getting them coffee, and Isabelle took this time of being home alone to do something she had been meaning to do for a few weeks now.
For a while, Isabelle had been feeling off, she had been feeling very nauseous, had unbelievable aches and pains in her back and stomach and had recently missed her period, and she had never missed a period in the ten years she had been getting them. She had The Birth Control rune, though she wasn’t very careful about making sure it hadn’t worn off, these last few months, the last thing on her mind was Birth Control. She and Simon definitely weren’t trying for a baby, they had never discussed having kids, though Isabelle guessed Simon would love to have kids someday, and now that Max and Rafe were here, Isabelle had come to realize she would love to have children some day too, but she had not planned on having kids for at least another 5 years.
She could have easily gone to The Silent City to find out whether or not she’s pregnant, but she wanted to avoid the Silent City at all costs, she was still creeped out by The Silent Brothers and hated the idea of any of them touching her. Instead, last week she went out and bought a pregnancy test and hid it in her makeup bag, where she knew Simon would never look.
As Isabelle nervously waits for the results of the pregnancy test, she desperately wishes she had asked Clary to come over and wait with her, being alone made her nerves a thousand times worse, deep down she was actually a bit scared that the test would be negative, she was so use to the idea that she was probably pregnant, the thought of not having another little life growing inside her, made her heart ache with sadness.
Once the three minutes are up, Isabelle makes her way over to the bathroom sink on wobbly legs and looks down at the test. Straight away, she sees two dark lines and her breath catches in her throat. There was no doubt about it, she was pregnant. Just then, she hears the door open and close and Simon call out to her.
Stuffing the test into the pocket of her jeans, Isabelle hurries downstairs to the kitchen, where Simon has just put their coffees down.
“Hey.” Simon says, smiling brightly at her. Isabelle’s heart flutters a little at the sight of his smile, and she hopes their baby inherits that smile.
“Hi.” Isabelle replies, taking the coffee from Simon but almost instantly gagging at the strong smell of it. That was another symptom she had been having, her sense of smell was extremely sensitive the last few months, just last week when she and Simon had been looking after Rafe and Max, Max had asked her to open a bag of popcorn for him, and the smell instantly made her feel sick to her stomach, from then on Simon was in charge of opening stuff for the boys.
“Iz, are you okay?” Simon asks in a tone of concern.
“Yeah... just... the smell of the coffee is making me sick.” She says, trying to work through her nausea. She really hoped this wasn’t how the next nine months were going to go.
“Are you coming down with something? You seem to be feeling sick a lot lately.” Simon gently asks. There was no point in not telling Simon about the baby now, he would probably figure it out sooner or later, especially when she started showing, and he had to know eventually, she couldn’t keep it a secret.
“No, actually Si, there’s something I need to tell you.” Isabelle quietly says.
“What is it?” Simon asks in a curious tone.
“Um... Si, how would you feel about having a baby?” Isabelle asks in a quiet, tone. Simon’s eyes widen and he sets his coffee down.
“I-I would love to have a baby, would you?” He quietly asks in a hopeful tone.
“Yes, yes I really would.” Isabelle says in a breathy tone.
“Do you want to start trying?” Simon asks in a cautious tone.
“We don’t need to, Simon I’m pregnant.” Isabelle says in a gleeful tone.
“Really?” Simon asks in a tone of amazement, hardly able to believe his ears.
“Yes, I’ve suspected it for a while because I’ve felt so sick, and I finally took a pregnancy test today and it was positive.” Isabelle explains. Simon laughs in delight and pulls her into a tight embrace.
“This is wonderful, I love you both so much.” He softly says, pulling back and placing a hand on her stomach. “Oh God, I just realized Jace and Alec are going to kill me.” He adds, his face dropping as he think about how his brothers-in-law will react.
“Relax Si, we’re not teenagers anymore, we’re adults now, we’re engaged and ready for a baby, Alec and Jace will be happy for us, Alec will be so excited to be an uncle, he’ll get to be the fun one without any responsibility.” Isabelle says in an amused tone. Alec adored his sons and being a father was the best thing he had ever done, but he also wanted to be the cool, fun uncle who let his niece or nephew do whatever they want, like Jace is to Max and Rafe.
“Right, of course, I just got panicked for a second, do you know if we’re having a boy or a girl?” Simon asks, wrapping his arms around Isabelle’s waist.
“No and I don’t want to find out until they’re born, I like the idea of it being a surprise.” Isabelle lightly says, beaming up at her fiance.
“Can’t I find out and not tell you?” Simon asks.
“No! I get to decide because I’m carrying the baby, we can find out with the next one.” She lightly says. Simon raises an eyebrow at her.
“Next one?” He asks.
“Mhm! I want lots of babies.” Isabelle says in a joyful tone.
“How many is ‘lots’?” Simon cautiously asks. Isabelle lightly shrugs and says
“Six or seven?”
“You’re kidding, right?” Simon cautiously asks.
“Of course I am! I do want lots of kids but not that many! Maybe 3 or 4.” Isabelle says. Simon’s shoulders relax and he leans in to kiss her cheek.
“Sounds perfect.”
A few days later, Isabelle gives in to Simon’s requests that she be checked over by a Silent Brother, just to be sure that everything was okay with her and the baby. Brother Enoch confirmed that she was pregnant (almost 3 months along!) and that everything with her and the baby was perfectly healthy. It had come as a massive shock to Isabelle to find out she was so far gone in the pregnancy, she had thought she was only a few weeks at most, but it did make sense, the dates added up and she was even starting to show a little bit, though she had put that down to bloating. Since she was so far along in the pregnancy, she and Simon agreed to tell their family soon. As it turned out, just as Isabelle and Simon were about to invite everyone around to their house for dinner so they could announce the pregnancy, Maryse invited everyone to her home for a family dinner and Isabelle and Simon saw it as the perfect opportunity to announce the pregnancy.
On the day of the dinner, Isabelle felt particularly unwell and wasn’t able to keep much food down, she knew she would be able to go the dinner but she wasn’t sure she would be able to eat, so she and Simon decided that they would try and announce the pregnancy straight away so Isabelle could explain if she was unable to eat much.
Currently, they are standing in the living room of Maryse’s home, while she bustled about in the kitchen.
“I think I’m going to tell mom when she comes back, I don’t think I can hold it in anymore and I actually want to tell Max and Rafe on their own too, they’ll be so excited, and they can help us tell everyone else.” Isabelle quietly explains to Simon, placing her hand on her stomach.
“Whatever you want, I’m happy to tell everyone anyway you want.” Simon lightly says, leaning in to kiss her temple.
“Where is everyone else, mom?” Isabelle asks her mother, as she walks back into the room. They had all agreed to meet here at 6 but it was almost 6:15 now and she and Simon were the only ones here.
“I don’t know where Jace and Clary are, but Magnus and Alec are running a bit behind, Alec lost track of time doing some paperwork and when Magnus put Max down for his nap he fell asleep with him and they overslept a bit, they should be here soon though.” Maryse says.
“Would you like more grandkids mom?” Isabelle lightly asks.
“Oh I would love more grandchildren! Max and Rafe are just the sweetest little things, I feel so blessed to be their grandma.” Maryse says in a wistful tone.
“I bet you’d love to have a granddaughter too.” Simon says. Even though he and Isabelle didn’t know if they were having a boy or a girl, he had a feeling they would have a girl.
“That would be lovely.” Maryse agrees.
“Well in about 6 months you might.” Isabelle lightly says.
“Is Clary pregnant?” Maryse asks in a tone of shock. Isabelle laughs lightly and says
“No, at least I don’t think so, but I am.”
“This better not be a joke.” Maryse says in a warning tone. She wanted another grandchild so badly, but she of course would never pressure any of her children into having kids, she just hoped that Magnus and Alec would adopt again or Clary or Isabelle would soon have a baby. If her daughter was messing with her, she wouldn’t be very happy.
“It’s not mom, I swear, I’m due in May.” Isabelle tells her mother.
“Oh Isabelle this is wonderful! Congratulations sweetheart!” Maryse exclaims, pulling her daughter into an embrace. May couldn’t come fast enough so she could meet her sweet, new grandbaby.
“Thank you, we’re so excited.” Isabelle softly says, linking her arm through Simon’s when Maryse pulls back.
“I remember the excitement of expecting your first child, I don’t think I was ever more excited than when I was pregnant with Alec. Do you know if you’re having a boy or a girl?” Maryse asks.
“No we’re not going to find out, we want it to be a surprise.” Isabelle says.
“Well I can’t wait to meet the little one, and I know you two are going to be wonderful parents.” Maryse says.
Just then the doorbell rings.
“That must be everyone else!” Maryse says, walking out into the hallway.
A few minutes later Isabelle and Simon hear the excited voices of Max and Rafe, and only seconds later they bustle in with Magnus, Alec and Maryse just behind them as well as Clary and Jace.
“Aunty Izzy! Uncle Si!” Max squeals, running over to Izzy and Simon and throwing himself at Izzy. Rafe is right behind Max and wraps his arms around Simon’s leg and looks up at him in adoration. Rafe loves his Uncle Simon so much, he thinks he is one of the coolest people on earth.
“Hi my babies! How are you?” Izzy happily asks, placing a hand on the back of Max’s back. Rafe scowls at her and says
“I’m not a baby!” Isabelle laughs lightly and says
“Of course, sorry Rafe.” Izzy says.
“Hey guys, your aunty Izzy and I have something to tell you.” Simon tells the boys in an excited tone, once the others have gone into the kitchen.
“What is it?” Max curiously asks. Izzy gets down to their level and smiles brightly at them.
“What would you boys think about having a cousin?” She softly asks.
“I like that!” Max exclaims.
“Would I have to change dirty diapers?” Rafe cautiously asks. Isabelle laughs and says
“No mijo you wouldn’t.”  Rafe’s face lights up at this and he says
“Then I want a cousin!”
“Well in a few months you’ll have one, I’ve got a baby in my tummy.” Isabelle softly says, laying a hand on her stomach.
“Really? Like Aunty Tess?” Max asks in a tone of awe.
“That’s right, in a couple of months the baby will be born and you’ll get to meet them.” Isabelle says, brushing Max’s hair back. Max wraps his arms around Izzy’s waist and buries his face in her stomach.
“I wove you baby!” He exclaims.
“Can you boys help us tell your dads, Uncle Jace and Aunty Clary, about your cousin?” Simon gently asks, crouching beside his nephews.
“Sí!” Rafe exclaims. Before Isabelle and Simon can say anything else, Rafe and Max dart out to the kitchen where the others are.
“Daddy! Papa! Me and Rafe gonna have a cousin!” Max exclaims, running into the kitchen, towards his parents.
“Well we know that buddy, your Aunt Tessa is going to have her baby in April.” Alec gently says, ruffling his son’s dark hair.
“No daddy! Aunty Izzy is gonna have a baby!” Rafe exclaims, smiling broadly as Jace ruffles his hair.
“You are?” Alec asks his sister in a tone of disbelief. Isabelle smiles broadly and nods.
“Yes I am!  I’m due in May, we just found out a few weeks ago.” She says.
“Oh congratulations!” Alec exclaims, pulling his sister into an embrace as Clary embraces Simon.
“Thank you, we’re so excited!” Isabelle says, pulling back from his embrace and accepting Jace’s hug.
“I call Godfather!” Jace says.
“As if I would trust you with my child!” Isabelle jokingly says.
“And you trust Simon with your baby?” Jace asks, raising an eyebrow at his sister.
“Yeah no offence Si, I’d trust Max with my baby more than I’d trust you.” Clary teasingly tells her parabatia.
“Well you’re not being godmother anymore.” Simon jokingly says.
“You must be so excited about the baby.” Alec quietly says to his sister.
“I am, I just wish dad could be here to meet the baby.” Isabelle quietly says, leaning against him.
“I understand, I really wish he was here to see my boys grow up, they’ve both grown so much in just two months and it kills me that dad’s not here to see it.” Alec quietly says.
“I know, he would love this baby so much.” Isabelle quietly says, the tears welling in her eyes. Though her father (or her little brother) would not get to know her baby, she knew her baby would have so many others around them to love them, two parents, so many aunts and uncles, a loving grandmother and three cousins. (once Tessa and Jem’s baby is born)
Isabelle’s pregnancy progresses smoothly, her nausea and illness lasts only until the fifth month, when they’re replaced with terrible aches and pains in her back and hips, pain killing runes did nothing for her so she had to bare it, she didn’t really mind, she knew it would all be worth it when she got to hold her baby.
When Isabelle was about 5 months pregnant, she and Simon decided on one boys name and one girls name. If they had a girl, they would name her Jessamine (Jessie for short) Elaine Lovelace. If they had a boy they would name him George Robert Lovelace, after his uncle and grandfather. They had asked  asked Clary to be the baby’s godmother but couldn’t choose between Jace or Magnus and Alec for the baby’s godfather.
Isabelle was currently 9 months pregnant, only a few weeks from her due date. She was going to have a home delivery with a Clave Midwife delivering the baby and a Silent Brother witnessing the birth.
Currently, Isabelle and Simon were in Devon visiting Jem, Tessa and their newborn baby daughter Cordelia who was just a few days old. She was the sweetest little girl and looked just like Jem, and made Isabelle and Simon even more excited for the arrival of their son or daughter. While they were here they were going to ask Jem to be the baby’s godfather,in the end they didn’t choose one of Isabelle’s brothers to be the baby’s godfather as it would be unfair to the one they didn’t pick, or at least they felt it would be. Neither of them had any other close male friends and they thought about giving the baby two godmothers instead of a godfather, but then Magnus had mentioned in passing how Jem was Rafael’s godfather even though he and Magnus weren’t particularly close, Magnus and Alec trusted him (and Tessa) greatly and knew that Jem would be a loving, kind mentor for Rafe growing up, just as Jace would be for Max. Isabelle and Simon then agreed that they would also ask Jem to be their child’s godfather, for the same reasons.
“Jem, there’s something Simon and I need to ask you.” Isabelle says, when Tessa has taken little Cordelia upstairs to change her diaper.
“Oh? What is it?” Jem asks, tearing his gaze from Tessa and his daughter, walking upstairs, and turning to look at Isabelle and Simon, a look of pure joy on his face.
“We were wondering if you would be our baby’s godfather.” Simon quietly says.
“Me? Well... I’m flattered but why not ask one of your brothers, Isabelle?” Jem asks in a shocked tone.
“We can’t choose between Magnus and Alec or Jace, it’s too hard. We thought about it for a long time, we weren’t even going to give our baby a godfather, but Magnus mentioned that you’re Rafe’s godfather because he and Alec know that you will be a caring, loving mentor for Rafe as he grows up, and we want the same for our baby. You don’t have to agree of course, you hardly know us, but we would love it if you did agree.” Isabelle quietly says.
“I may hardly know you but I knew and loved plenty of Ligthwoods and Lovelaces in my time, Jessamine Lovelace was like the sister I never had, and I loved Cecily and Gabriel Lightwood’s children as my own, Sophie Lightwood was one the kindest, bravest people I have ever met who was also like a sister to me, I would be honored to be your child’s godfather.” Jem softly says.
“If we have a girl we’re actually going to name her Jessamine, after Jessamine Lovelace.” Simon softly says.
“She would be honored, you do the Lovelace name proud, Simon, you both do.”
________________________________________________________________
Two hours later, Isabelle and Simon arrive home from Devon, both of them feeling more exhausted than ever before. Isabelle was feeling quiet unwell too, she had been having fake contractions for the last few weeks, but today they seemed particularly strong. She couldn’t help but wince in pain and let out a sharp gasp as another pain ran through her.
“Izzy, are you alright?” Simon asks in a tone of concern.
“Uh... I’m not sure, these pains are really bad.” Isabelle says in a tight tone.
“I’m going to summon The Silent Brothers, just to be sure everything’s okay.” Simon says.
________________________________________________________________
It had been 5 hours in total since Simon had summoned The Silent Brothers. When Brother Enoch had arrived and checked Isabelle over, he had told them that the pains she was experiencing were real, actual contractions. Isabelle had been very grateful for the fact that her pains were not that bad at all, very bearable. A few hours after Brother Enoch had confirmed that Isabelle was in labor, her waters had broken and Simon had contacted everyone to let them know the baby was on the way and promised to get in touch again when the baby was born. After Isabelle’s water had broken, her labor had progressed very quickly, and before she knew it, it was time to push. She had only had to push for half an hour, and now she was clutching Simon’s hand, listening to their baby crying.
“Simon, is it a boy or a girl?” Isabelle asks in a hoarse voice, as Simon brushes her hair back from her face. Simon had gotten a quick glimpse of their baby a few seconds ago but Isabelle had not seen them at all.
“A boy, Iz, a beautiful baby boy.” He tells her in a joyful tone, leaning down to kiss her softly.
“I want to hold him.” Isabelle announces, holding her arms out for her baby.
“Just give me a minute to clean him down, Mrs. Lovelace.” The midwife says.
“No, I don’t care if he isn’t clean, give me my son.” Isabelle says in a firm tone. The midwife purses her lips, but passes the baby to Isabelle, who instantly presses her lips to her baby’s forehead, holding him close to her.
“Hi George, my sweet boy, I love you so much.” Isabelle softly says, peering down into her son’s face. He was a perfect mix of her and Simon. He had Simon’s pallor, nose and eye shape, while he had Isabelle’s hair color and mouth shape, and as it would later turn out, he has beautiful big blue eyes, he was certainly a little Lightwood.
“He’s perfect.” Simon says in a tone of awe, gently running his hand over George’s dark, wispy hair.
“Yes he is, and you have so many people waiting to meet you my sweet boy, your cousins are so excited to meet you, I just wish your grandpa and your Uncle Max could be here too.” Isabelle says in a tight tone. Robert and Max would love George, Robert was a wonderful grandfather to Max and Rafe and no doubt would have been the same to little George, and Max would have adored all his nephews. However, even without them, George was one of the most loved little boys there ever was, he had so many people around him that loved him and cared about him, and had his grandpa and Uncle Max watching over him making sure he would always be safe.
Alec X Reader
Alec X JaceSister!Reader
Jace x Sister!reader (platonic, obviously but this is a strange fandom)
“Jay?” I turn to my older brother, holding my hand out, “Please hold my hand,” Jay nods, taking my 8-year-old hand into his larger 8-year-old. Our father had just died, leaving us as essentially with nowhere to go. Officials reluctantly took us in and moved our house to house for what felt like forever, but Jay said was a month and a half. Apparently, they were having trouble finding us a place. Eventually, our constant moving stopped as we were told the Lightwoods offered to take us in. even jay didn’t know much about the lightwoods. Probably why his face is colder than the marble tombs in the silent city. His face made me put on my best Stoney face as well. “We’ll manage Jay,” Jay nodded, a smile finally tugging at the corner of his lips for the first time in weeks, “I know. Stick with me and we’ll be okay,” “I know,” I copied. He rolled his eyes. We stepped through the portal, an older clave member behind us, with a bag each in our hand. We were greeted by an annoyed looking boy, a bored looking girl, a reluctant looking man, and a smiling woman with long black hair. She at least looked somewhat nice. “These are the Way lands. Johnathan,” he pointed his bony finger at my brother, “and (Y/N). Goodbye Robert, Maryse,” he nodded his head towards them and stepped back through the portal. “Welcome kids. This is Alec and Isabelle. Max is napping right now.” Maryse smiled. She looked at her kids, nudging them, “Kids! Introduce yourselves,” she tried to whisper but Jace and I shared a look. The boy shook his head, still refusing to look at us, his long fringe falling in his face. The girl sighed, looking up at us, suddenly perking, “It’s a girl,” she grinned. A smile crept on Roberts' face while mine screwed up in confusion, “I’m Isabelle!” she held her hand out to me, shaking my hand enthusiastically, “That’s Alec, he’s boring as rune study. Max is cute but whines a lot. And mum makes delicious pancakes! Who’s he?” “My brother,” I nudge Jay, but he shrugs me off. Isabelle grinned, whispering to me “He’s cute,” I fake threw up and she laughed. Spotting my painted nails her smile seemed to grow, “You like nails?” I nod, “Makeup? Clothes?” I shrug, self-conscious, “I mean yeah but I wasn’t allowed.” “This is gonna be so fun. Bye boys!” Isabelle grabbed my hand, dragging me off somewhere. Jay grabbed my wrist, trying to stop us despite my grin, “Don’t worry. I won’t kill her,” he said nothing. She sighed, “Alec take Jace to do whatever boys do,” I turned to Jay, giving him a smile, “I’ll be fine. I promise. Go train or something,” I said before whispering, “Make a friend. We didn’t get to before,” It was true. Id barely ever met someone my own age apart from Jace. I love him but I want to have friends, and he does too.
After small baby steps, Jay managed to make friends with the Lightwoods and the nickname  Jace was born. It's actually pretty nice. I, however, dove in the deep end, instantly bonding with Isabelle. We had nicknames, hers being Belle, secret handshake, gossip conversations, and sleepovers. Alec, however, was kinda a different story. Now he got on good with Jace, great even. They even became parabatai. I’m 16 and he’s 17, because my birthday wasn’t that long ago and his was soon coming, so we’ve known each other 7 years. He wasn’t mean to me, he was never rude, sometimes he was even funny and would join in on games and conversations. He even gave me extra training to raise my level. But sometimes he just…stopped. He said he was too old. He was more mature. I was being immature. He flips flopped all the time. And at this current moment, he was being distant. I got over his constant changes but at this moment in time, it wasn’t going well. I’d been on small missions or joined in on ones with the group but the other day I went on my first serious solo mission. I was to check on high demon activity in a mundane area. They assumed it was pixies or another non-threatening demon due to the lack of reports but the thing that attacked me wasn’t. Despite the silent brothers and runes, my arm was in a cast and my body was scared. I managed to escape the fight and ended up passing out only a few meters away from the institute. I was passed out for hours apparently, waking in the middle of the night. Jace and Belle were both there, although fallen asleep, Alec wasn’t. and I never got a reason. Because of the attack, they had to send a team out to deal with it. Belle and Jace both insisted on going, one being my best friend and the other, my brother. Maryse agreed but Alec was to stay back to finish paperwork. He was salty, to say the least. Its been an hour and they're still not back. My leg starts to bounce, and I end up pacing the institute trying to let off energy. As I was walking through a corridor I heard a sigh and someone walking over. Still, I jumped when they spoke, “Hey,” I turned and saw Alec walk out the training room, “You’ve passed here three times. You alright?” “Now you care,” I mumble. His eyebrows scrunch in confusion, “They're not back yet,” I answer. His face relaxes and he runs a hand through his hair, “They're okay,” “You don’t know that,” He raises an eyebrow, “Jace and I are parabatai. They're okay. Try to get your mind off it.” I stand silently, looking at the ground. I feel him walk closer but don’t look up, “I get it. but you need to relax. We’re shadowhunters, it’s what we do,” “That doesn’t help,” I spit back, “Something almost killed me and now my families out there. Who knows what’s going to happen?” “C’mon,” he says, walking away. “Huh?” I ask but speed up to catch up. “There’s no point freaking yourself out,” he tells me, opening the door to the lounge for me. I walk in and turn to him, wanting to cross my arms but can’t do it properly, “We’re going to watch the movies you like, snack, and get our minds off it. I know how Jace is but my sister,” he pauses, “I’m right, I don’t want to think about it. get the movie on, I’ll get food.” And he leaves. I groan and flop onto the couch. I’d had this conversation with Belle before, about Alec. About how he was hot, which she protested, and I liked him even though he was an ass. Another example is right now. Putting on a random film, I sit and wait for Alec. Luckily he doesn’t take too long and returns with a training bag. I raise an eyebrow. “didn’t want anyone to ask,” he mumbles, opening the bag and dumping it out on the coffee table. “sorry if it um well eh smells,” he cringes a little and chucks the bag behind the couch. I snigger, “You could wash it,” I look at the snacks on the table and sigh. “You got my favorite.” He turns to me, “Isn’t that a good thing?” Nodding, I reply, “Yeah, just ignore me. I’m a bit out of it,” He smiles, “Aren’t you always? It's alright, you picked a good movie,” Despite actually liking the movie I wasn’t watching it, mindlessly munching on snacks. I didn’t even realize I was doing anything till Alec asked, “why are you looking at me?” I blinked a couple times, “Why didn’t you visit me?” he looks down at my question, making heat rush to my cheeks. I wanted to stay firm but ended up bringing my knees up to my chest, “It hurt,” He sighs, shaking his head, “I-I-I’m sorry. It's just- its- I couldn’t look at you. Not like I was mad but. I couldn’t see you hurt like that. I found you and I just couldn’t handle it,” “Why? You don’t even like me.” I sigh. “I do. Its- look I’m just bad at the whole socializing thing. I’m not Izzy,” her name reminds me of the situation even more. I look down, fighting back tears, “I’m sorry,” he told me. I heard a very light sigh and felt the couch dip beside me. Alec's arm went around my shoulder. Despite all rational thought, I lean back. “I’m here. I know I’m not what you want but I’m here. Tell me what you need,” I sigh, “Answers?” I look up as he shakes his head, disappointed himself, “A hug?” “That I can do,” being extra careful of my arm, Alec wraps his arms around me, hugging me for the first time. “Thanks,” I murmur, turning to him, leaning my head on his shoulder. I don’t know how long we sit like that for. At one point I feel the tears leave my eyes against my will. Alec rubs my back, kissing the top of my head, but saying nothing. Eventually, its interrupted by someone announcing, “What did we miss?” I basically fly up to Jace and Belle, engulfing each in a one arm hug in turn. “What’s the matter?” Jace asked, concern written all over his face. “I was scared,” I mumbled. Jace wrapped his arm over my shoulder, pulling me closer, “We’re okay, promise,” he turned to Alec, “Thanks. Didn’t know you had feelings,” Alec scoffed, crossing his arms. Belle sighed, “So, is this a thing yet or what?” Alec and I both look confused as Belle crossed her arms with a huff, “You together yet?” everyone else in the room got a shocked look on their face, Jace the most. “(Y/N) likes Alec-“ “Hey!” “Alec likes (Y/N)” “Hey!” Alec protested. “What?” Jace’s arm dropped as he glared at Alec. “So,” Belle continued, “just quit beating around the bush and start dating.” Alec and I both stammer something unintelligible when Jace steps in. “No. (Y/N) isn’t allowed to date-“ “What?” “And especially not Alec,” he spoke over me. “Um excuse you. First of all,” I told him, “I’ll like who I like, kiss who I kiss, and date who I date. My life, my choice. Second of all what’s wrong with Alec? He’s your parabatai. Why can’t I date him?” Jace’s face contorted in disgust “You actually like him?!” “Um-“ I glance at Alec, face heating up, “Yeah. Kinda. Like a lot,” “Told you, Alec,” Belle grinned. Alec hides a smile by looking down. “He’s even blushing,” Belle joked, making Alec’s blush worse. “Okay, Friday, 4 o’clock, you two are going on a date. Everyone agreed.” Alec and I both nod our heads, shy smiles hiding the inner grin, while Jace made an indignant Noise “This is not happening!”
Ghosts of the Shadow Market Review!
My first book of the Read to Roll challenge is Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link, and Robin Wasserman.
Tumblr media
Look at Jem! I love my son!
Tumblr media
Here we are at the pond! Fun fact: Cassandra Clare allegedly lives in the town next to mine. I kinda really hate it.
I actually finished reading this a while ago, but I got caught up with school and the library book is due tomorrow, so I guess we’re doing this review tonight, bitches!
First: I LOVED this book!! I have my issues with CC and it took me literally took me like 9 months to finish reading QOAAD (which I also enjoyed, I just couldn’t get through) but I FLEW through this book! I think maybe the short story format just fits my brain a bit better. I’m gonna break this down by story:
Cast Long Shadows
Matthew!! My child!! I want to hug you so much!!
This story stood out to me as particularly hopeless, especially compared to the rest of the stories. It ended in total despair, and I understand Matthew did something VERY VERY BAD but he is a dumb child and dumb 15 year olds do a lot of dumb things so
I really hope he gets some sort of resolution in TLH
This bitch deserves happiness
Also he’s defo not straight?? like no straight boi is THAT into oscar wilde
i kinda ship him with thomas
Every Exquisite Thing
SOOO PURE!!!!!
WE STAN SUPPORTIVE PARENTS!!!!!!!!!
This story was like a breath of fresh air compared to the last
It doesn’t really connect to the overarching plot at ALL (every other story does, correct me if I’m wrong) but i’m okay with it because anna lightwood is incredible and deserves all of the respect
the only bit that kinda not really relates is the talk about tessa’s demon parent? which is lowkey implied to be like... actually satan?? ahhhh????
That last bit with Cecily was just so beautiful. again.
I TOLD YOU THE BLUE WAISTCOAT WAS THE ONE
I’m just imagining them just in bed one night and one of them was like ‘our daughter hecka gay’ ‘what should we do’ ‘well we gotta buy her a suit that actually fits her obv. she can’t keep walking around in clothes that don’t fit, also they’re gross’ ‘i actually already went to the tailor down the block and made a list of the ones i think she would look best in’
I know ariadne broke annas heart but also i feel really bad for her. being a brown lesbian in 2019 is hard enough. she lost her parents and she doesn’t want to lose what she has left. i hope she also gets some sort of closure in TLH. i would be content with her and charlie having a charlotte and henry thing going minus the pining and falling in love. they’re married but it’s just business and they can pursue whomever on the side
also isabelle do you realize that necklace you’re wearing was once owned by queer QUEEN anna lightwood?????
Learn About Loss
this story was a little slow, but very necessary for introducing the lost herondale plot
emilia is so fucking badass
the last scene with will and jem was so pure and wholesome. i’m so mad that they were robbed of so much time together.
A Deeper Love
this story was just anxiety
like obv i knew jem wasn’t going to die but the CLIMAX
can kit pls have some heart to heart with catarina in twp! like she deserves some closure! like she can just tell him some stories and he can understand a bit more of where he comes from
jem deserves all of the hugs
i just want to scream YOU GET MARRIED! YOU HAVE A CHILD! IT WILL HAPPEN!
The Wicked Ones
this story was,, uh,, something
i’d say it ties with cast long shadows as the most depressing
so basically, celine was horribly abused her entire life by the people who should have taken care of her, her trauma was exploited by another abuser so that she too became incredibly manipulative and potentially abusive, and then she killed herself (was murdered?) and her child was ripped from her corpse to be abused throughout his entire childhood as well
it was cute seeing kit’s parents! they were so cute! what happened.
Son of the Dawn
baby alec! baby izzy! baby jace! baby baby max!
i’m not a big jace fan, but ugh i just wanted him to get the love that every child deserves!
i can’t believe raphael santiago was alec lightwood’s sexual awakening
“brother let him see my rack-ariah”
lily chen deserves the whole goddamn world
jem CARVED WILL’S INITIALS INTO HIS STAFF
FULL HOMO
The Land I Lost
gotta admit that i wasn’t too hype about this one bc i’m kinda tired of all of the malec narratives, but it was cute
“JEM I’D-LOVE-TO-CLIMB-’EM-CARSTAIRS” (this has to be my favorite)
once again i love lily chen with all my heart and she deserves all of the happiness and none of the shit that the world has given her
also??? lily breathed, “cortana.” this girl was GAY for CORDELIA CARSTAIRS
BLESS THE COME AND STARE FAMILY
i love how this small child who hates everyone just physically attached himself to alec and would not let go
cordelia carstairs was lily’s sexual awakening and you can’t change my mind
SLEEP LILY I’LL WATCH THE DOORS alec lightwood being the PAL lily deserves
THAT BITCH! poor matthew. he was still dumb but he was played by some bitch who couldn’t separate her person grudges and an entire race of people
i love how magnus saw this child run into his home with alec nowhere in sight and was like “guess he’s my son now”
Through Blood, Through Fire
rosemary ;_;
that’s so fucking depressing like you abandoned your family and it bought them like 3 days max
i think it’s a little weird that tessa now has some of kit’s mother’s memories and is adopting him but also i guess it’s kinda nice?
both jem and tessa have actually almost died searching for you, kit, and i don’t think either regret a single thing they did to lead themselves to you
jem and tessa are in LOVE and they’re having a BABY
The Lost World
JEM AND TESSA ARE IN LOVE AND THEY’RE HAVING A BABY
ty u really did fuck up didn’t u
but he’s got a pet now so that’s nice
livvy ;_;
i really hope they find a way to release her in twp
i don’t think ty wants it, but things will come to a head. she’s not happy as a ghost.
kit and ty are so fucking dumb just talk to each other!!
it’s so fitting that kit gave them the heron pendant
both in a sense of continuity and in the complexities of his feelings - on one hand it belonged to his mother, someone cared very much about him but on the other, it failed to save her
Forever Fallen
i ship kit with a family that loves him
jem just talks to him and is just internally like ‘wtf has everyone in your life done wrong’
jem and tessa: you are WORTHY and DESERVING of LOVE, BITCH!
i want all of the domestic herondale-carstairs family
i think i read the scene where jem and tessa put all of their stuff in kit’s room like 10 times it had me so shook
“WE WANT YOU TO KNOW THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS HOUSE MORE PRECIOUS TO US THAN YOU”
WE STAN SUPPORTIVE PARENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Janus is as annoying as real jace
lily be safe bby ily this is gonna end baaaaad
the scene at the end where jem tells kit that where there is love there is no need for gratitude also has me shook bc we’ve been talking about this a lot in my spanish class, about how so many of us are trained to be complacent and to show gratitude for things that should be a given
Overall, I really enjoyed the book even though some parts bored me and I kinda skimmed through. I’m reading Girls of Paper and Fire now, so we’ll see when I finish that!
My review of Shadowhunters finale part 2
I have watched the finale for three times in a row now, and am loving it more and more. This is gonna be such a mess, because I am so emotional right now. *haha*
I guess It's easiest to start with Maia. Her actress said that because of her schedule stuff they had to shoot her scenes very fast, but she did a great job. I am glad that they decided to have a couple of Saia-scenes as friends and Simon being there in the Jordan’s memorial. I am also glad that she eventually decided to go and meet her parents and solve their issues. The romance between her and the guy whose name I don’t right now remember seemed a little rushed, but we have to remember that in their world it has been a year. Tell me if I am wrong, but isn’t that guy who was turned accidentally and who Simon and Maia helped back on season 2? I am grateful that they gave Maia that restaurant - and a happy ending. (Plus that little detail that she named a dish after Clary… </3 )
Ding dong, the witches (or should I say bitches) are dead. Let me start by saying that I love the showdown between Magnus and Lilith. It really shows that Magnus can use his sassiness and dark side without letting it consume him too much. She knows what to say to get under Magnus’ skin (the words about his friends), but he has gone through too much manipulation to let Lilith control him or anyone else. After the fact that Lilith is the reason Simon got his mark and that caused so much trouble, it's really fitting that the heavenly fire inside Izzy was the thing that got her killed. A part of me is kind of sad that we never saw Kain again - after all, she promised to get his brother back for his help against the others, right?
If you think about it, the quiet ones are always the worst in the cases like this? And I am referring to the Seelie Queen. You could never be sure, which side she was on. She is almost always in her realm, giving orders without actually intefering, but is still - sorry, was - the huge part of everything (making deals with Valentine, wanting to kill Jonathan and Clary…). I was actually kind of freaked about this weird obsession she had on Jonathan. Jonathan just couldn’t have one healthy relationship, could he? I am really glad that the actress who portrayed the youngest version of her was able to come back, even for this short second. Without actually seeing her face but only hearing her voice when she’s dying actually makes it worse and more chilling. I am actually really relieved and happy that Meliorn left her side and reconnected with Shadowhunters. Despite he did such a questionable things sometimes, I never saw him as a bad guy. His humor and sassy was always refreshing and he and Jace made a really good pair. Did he eventually survive, though? I didn’t catch that.
When it comes to Jonathan... his transformation was well done and actually made me, once again, feel sorry for him. I am kind of glad that they showed him being completely dark for a moment. There were all these little details: his hair being turned out to blond since he no longer wanted to impress Clary or express their connection and he thought that all the hope of getting his sister back was gone - and that the red one returned when all the darkness had been sucked out of him. Like I said earlier, I loved their goodbye-scene and that they were alone there without any other people influencing the situation. I partly hoped that they would have shown us that dream they shared, or the moments of “what could have been” if their parents hadn’t messed things up - like in the books. But otherwise, beautiful job. Hats off for Luke for his awesome performance.
Aline and Helen ending up together belongs to the “lovely, but wanted more”-section. Their chemistry is undeniable and they deserve to be happy. I can really imagine their wedding. Would someone be interested in writing a fanfic about that? I would be delighted to read that! Plus, I was glad that Helen was the one helping Izzy with the heavenly fire.
Lorenzo and Underhill...was not something I expected, but - even to my own surprise - I like it. I wasn’t sure if they could redeem Lorenzo in such a short time, but they really did. The fact, that he, despite his jealousy and pride, eventually agreed to help the others with Magnus and guided Alec with his magic (while still partly being his shallow self) was beautiful. I want to give the special thumbs up for his discussion with Magnus. A need for a family is strong for human nature and he is not an exception. Yes, family is not always about the blood or biology, but it can be made. I mean… look at how moved he looks at the Malec’ wedding and how he dances with Madzie! Now that he’s redeemed, I would have wanted to know more about his earlier lover, that he mentioned about. However, when things are how they are...great ending for him.
I am really happy for Luke - and the fact that Preator did not turn out to be as bad as I previously thought they would. It’s kind of pity that he and Maryse did not get the last proper scene together (same with Luke and Maia), but they are obviously endgame. Come on, Maryse, did you really think that your own family wouldn’t notice such a clear chemistry? ;) The thought of these two travelling around Brazilia… yes, please! I have also loved the scenes between him and Alec, so them working together as equals is really heart-warming to see.
Even though he was a douchebag, I even enjoyed seeing Robert’s return and am really satisfied that all of them can be adults when it comes to that. Ooh, our baby boy Max has grown so much! <3 As horrifying as it was to see Max so close to evil Jonathan, it was great to see him fight back after what Jonathan did to him. In addition, Max calling Magnus his brother was something I never knew I needed.
Probably, it might be wise to stop this one here and share the last ones in the two parts. Thank you for reading these, it would be nice to hear your opinions as well.
We only see as far as the headlights - Chapter I: The First Ride
Alec spends most of his days studying law, writing articles for a local newspaper to pay for his apartment, and trying not to completely break down after his baby brother has been diagnosed with leukaemia. He’s a busy man, there’s no time for rest, and there’s for sure no time for love on his schedule.
Every single of Magnus’ days is the same. Work, home, drink and a marathon of Project Runway. Every day besides Wednesdays, when he comes to a local hospital as a volunteer and offers some comfort for its patients. Even if his life is boring, it’s stable. And he definitely needs stable after his last relationship. He’s not looking for love. It’s still too soon.
But when fate makes both of the men cross paths, they start to feel something special. Something they have never felt before. And even with their contrasting lives, there’s always time for some love, right?
read on ao3
“I don’t think it’s working, Mr Fell.” Alec says as he begins to get up from the chair, but Mr Fell stops him with his hand movement.
“Just sit down for one more minute.”
Alec sighs and rolls his eyes but does as he’s told. Slumping back down on the chair opposite the doctor, he raises a questioning eyebrow at him. Their time is over for this week session, and Alec has no idea what more does he want him to say. They’ve already been through all the kinds of ‘how you’re feeling today?’ questions.
“Why do you think that?” His therapist asks then. “It’s only our second session.”
Because it doesn’t make me feel any better, Alec thinks, but doesn’t say.
Deep down he knows it will take time, before he opens up fully. It’s been hard enough to expose him to his siblings like that, and he still gave him only a part of his worries, since they were pushing. It’s a totally different thing doing it with a stranger.
Maybe it is a little easier.
But it’s not like he’s doing it willingly. Isabelle insisted on him to go and get some help, since she could see that this whole thing was bringing him down a little bit more with every day. Jace instantly agreed, and that’s why he’s here. On his second session with a psychologist, but not actually to make himself feel better, but his siblings.
At least he can do something to make Izzy and Jace feel better.
He wishes he could do the same with Max.
He knows that it’s getting worse. Can see it with every day he comes back here to the hospital. But there’s not much he can do, besides being there for him. He won’t magically invent a cure for cancer, no matter how much he’d love to.
But he also knows, that it’s been like that before. Even worse. And since Max is a constant patient in this hospital for basically two months, it’s been better. He has someone watching over him all the time, someone will notice if something is wrong and will inform them instantly. They take better care of him here, than Alec and his family back at the house. Even though it was five of them there, they’re always busy. His siblings and him have college to attend, plus their casual jobs, and their parents are mostly out in their law’s firm. Sure, it’s an important work, but is it more important than your own child...
Max was actually the only thing that kept Alec home. He didn’t want to be away from him, but since they were forced to hand him away to the hospital anyway, Alec took a chance at leaving their family home too.
Isabelle and Jace came along. They rented an apartment mostly using Alec’s savings, all of them got casual jobs, and somehow they manage. Even when it’s hard, it’s still better than living with his father back at the house…
“Alec.” Mr Fell’s voice brings him out of his thoughts.
“Yeah, sorry I…” He starts, but the doctor only waves his hand dismissively and repeats the question instead.
“Why do you think it isn’t working?”
Alec shrugs, but after only one hour spend with this man, he knows he won’t take this as an answer, waiting for the younger man to elaborate.
“I just…” Alec starts and exhales. “I don’t feel like I need to talk to someone. I’m doing fine. I have my siblings-“
“But you still refuse to talk to them about this.” Mr Fell gently interrupts.
“Because I don’t feel the need to.” Alec resorts quickly.
The therapist lets out a long exhale and nods, scribbling something in his notebook.
“You know it’s your choice, but I’d like to continue seeing you.” He states a little while later. “I’m sure we can work everything out.” He smiles a soft smile, and Alec reciprocates a bit.
Do it for them, Alec’s subconsciousness is telling him. They need you to do this more than you do.
So he just nods in answer and Mr Fell goes back to writing in his notebook before speaking again.
“Great, same time next week then?”
“Yeah.” Alec replies shortly, relieved that it’s finally time to get out of here.
“I’ll see you next week then. Take care, Alec.”
Alec nods again on his way out and lets out another breathe as the door shut behind him.
He quickly makes his way to Max’s room, which he shares with three other kids. Now, they all recognise Alec, since he’s a constant visitor here. As he comes through the entrance, he spots his brother and the way he lits up at the sight of Alec makes him smile.
“Hey, buddy.” Alec greets as he sits down on the chair near his bed. He waves his hand to the other children and they answer with some cute smiles. “How are you feeling today?” He asks then, running a hand through Max’s hair.
“A bit better than yesterday.” He replies. “But everything still kinda hurts.”
Alec nods and places a kiss to his forehead.
“I know,” He speaks then. “But it’ll get better. You just need to get through this.”
He doesn’t want to give him false hope, and believes he doesn’t. He’s not letting any thought about losing his baby brother creep into his mind. If he did, he’d completely broke.
They just sit in silence for a while, Alec’s hand still in his hair and then Max speaks again.
“Don’t you have school today?”
“I do.” Alec smiles as he answers. “But I’ll always find some time for you.”
The quirks of Max’s lips lift up a bit at Alec’s words.
“Okay,” Alec starts. “do you want to play some video games, or we could take a walk-“
“Actually, I don’t think like moving from bed today.”
Alec tries to hide his worry behind a smile. As he always does, when Max is feeling particularly bad, like today. He looks down at his brother, as the boy slowly closes his eyes and exhales heavily.
“What would you like to do then?” Alec asks, delicately sweeping hair from his brother’s forehead.
“Can you read me?”
Alec smiles at his request. Being 12, Max is more than old enough to read himself, but he still loves it when Alec does it for him. He used to read him to sleep when Max was just a baby, and somehow it became their routine. Every time Max had a nightmare, or just wasn’t feeling okay, Alec would come to his room and read him to sleep. When he was diagnosed with leukaemia, and then transported to the hospital the reading didn’t stop. Actually, it became more constant, since Max was feeling bad almost all the time, and it seemed like the only thing to lift him up a bit.
“Sure,” Alec answers without hesitation. “Which book?”
“’The Little Prince’?”
It’s their book. The one Max chooses the most often, but none of them is bored of it. Rereading it only makes the story more special and with every year, Max seems to understand it better, find out new things about it. Which both makes Alec proud and worried. But he doesn’t let it get too much to his head as he answers.
“You’ve got it.”
Soon, he needs to leave since he has an exam in business law today, and can’t mess it up. He exchanges his goodbyes with Max, and promises to be back soon, like he always does, and then he’s heading to the exit, where Jace should be already waiting for him.
But he doesn’t spot him anywhere on the parking lot. He checks the time again. 9:21, they set up for 9:15. It’s a really important exam, and if Jace forgot…
With a heavy sigh Alec dials his number and waits till his brother picks up. When he does, Alec doesn’t really let him finish his ‘hello’ as he asks.
“Jace, where the hell are you?”
“I was just about to call you.” His brother states and Alec can hear some background noise coming for the other line. “It’s frantic at work today, I can’t get out.”
“What do you mean? We set up for you to get me a ride to the university, I have an exam in half of an hour!”
“I know, but I’m sorry I really can’t. It’s a mess up here.” Jace sighs and Alec can imagine him rubbing his finger over his brow, as he always does when he’s thinking. “Can’t you take a bus?”
“A stop is like 20 minutes away from here, and another 20 to get to the university.” Alec resorts with frustration creeping into his voice. He understands that Jace works hard, and does appreciate it. He’s a busy man, with working for the advertising agency and studying business on the weekends. Jace’s job is nice, but it’s not really for him. He wasn’t made for sitting behind a desk. That’s why he took business classes after a year of studying physical education. His dream is to open up his own gym, and Alec does believe he can make it. He and Izzy do. Their parents don’t matter. They stopped awaiting any support from them a long time ago.
So Alec lets out another exhale, tone shifting from frustrated to resigned as he adds.
“There’s no way I’ll make it there on time.”
“I’m sorry Alec, really. Can you take the exam another day?”
His teacher is going to kill him for missing another test, but what else is there left to do.
“I knew sharing a car with you is the worst idea ever.” Alec grunts, scowling himself for not just taking the car anytime he wants, like Jace does. Their schedule only seem to work when his brother feels like it.
“Hey, you know way better than anyone that we can’t afford two cars.” Jace resorts.
“Then I should be the one taking it to school.”
“You have like 20 minutes to the university by bus-“
“Well, not from here! From home!” Alec raises his voice slightly, but then adds more calmly. “I get it, Jace, but next time just let me know earlier, so I can figure something out.”
“Yeah, sure. Sorry.” Jace answers, actually sounding a bit guilty.
“Just… get back to work.” Alec states. “I’ll manage. I’ll see you tonight.”
They quickly exchange goodbyes and as Alec hangs up, he growls in frustration and goes to rest is forehead against the cold wall of the building.
“Fuck.” He murmurs to himself and a few seconds later, he feels a hand on his shoulder.
“Are you okay?” Says a man’s voice. It’s a nice voice, Alec resorts and he almost turns around to face the stranger, but he doesn’t feel like taking out his anger on an innocent person, and right now he feels like he’s going to blow up with frustration if he even opens his mouth.
“Fine.” He manages, and then the hand on his shoulder disappears, but he doesn’t hear any footsteps that may announce the stranger is walking away, so what’s left for Alec to do, than to face him.
As he turns around and is ready to reassure again that he’s perfectly fine, but then, he finds himself face to face with probably the most beautiful man he’s ever seen.
And then the man smiles at him, and Alec decides that he’s definitely the most beautiful. His black hair is perfectly styled, dark brown eyes, lightened with some black shiny eyeliner at the edges. His outfit leaves no other impression than fabulous. Dark red shirt, peeking out of the long burgundy coat, paired with tight black trousers and simple black boots.
Alec finds himself lost at his words, and he just stands there with mouth slightly open, not able to choke out any other words.
After what feels like a lifetime for Alec, the stranger chuckles lightly, and then his voice sounds again.
“I’m sorry, but I kind of overheard your conversation on the phone.” He states, still smiling softly when he offers. “Do you need a ride?”
Alec blinks a few time a bit taken aback at the offer, but when his brain actually come online, he manages a response.
“You expect me go get into a car with a total stranger?” He asks with a stern expression.
The man shakes his head lightly and chuckles again, before extending his hand.
“I’m Magnus.” He says, and before even thinking, Alec slides his palm into his. “See, not a total stranger anymore.”
Alec laughs briefly, before reminding himself that he hasn’t actually introduced yet.
“Alec.”
“Well, Alec” Magnus starts again. “I might have heard that you’re headed in the direction of a university. Colmubia?”
“Yeah.” Alec nods and when they finally let go of each other hands, he finds himself surprised at how well they fitted together.
“Great, turns out I’m going in the same direction.” Magnus resorts and his smile brightens a bit. “And since we’re past the formalities, there’s no objection for you to accept my offer.”
“I don’t think that is how it works.” Alec says with a grin, and Magnus laughs again.
“Whoever told you that, lied.”
They laugh again, and there’s a moment of silence, before Alec speaks again.
“Look, Magnus it’s really nice of you to offer, but I don’t want to make you any trouble-“
“Nonsense.” Magnus interrupts gently. “It’s on my way Alec, I’ll just drop you off, it’ll take like two seconds. You won’t be taking basically any of my time, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
Alec just shakes his head a bit.
“No, Magnus, it’s fine. I’ll take a bus, or something-“
“Alec,” He begins again. “is that short for Alexander?” He asks, and Alec nods in answer. “Okay, so Alexander, can I call you that?”
“Sure.” Alec replies before he actually gets to think about it. there’s just something in a way his full name slips of Magnus’ tongue. Without any reprimand or accusation, like it always did when his parents were calling him by his full name. He longs for the word to be spoken again by Magnus, and he doesn’t need to wait long when Magnus picks back up again.
“Alexander, you’re not making me any trouble. Really. And, as I’ve heard, you’ve got an exam, which you definitely shouldn’t miss. Come on, you can’t be late.”
Magnus waves of his hand in the direction of where his car must be and as he throws Alec one last look he thinks.
Fuck it.
He’ll be as good as dead if he misses the exam. Better to get murdered by a beautiful man than your teacher.
So he finally nods, releasing a breath and Magnus beams at him as he leads them in a direction of his car.
A few steps later, they find themselves in front of an elegant black car. It’s simple, not too big, but not too small, just a perfect kind. Alec doesn’t know shit about cars, but this one looks like a one he’d like to own himself.
Magnus opens the door to the passenger’s side and gestures Alec in, to which he blushes slightly at the polite gesture. He quickly gets in, and Magnus swiftly circles the car to soon settle himself in the driver’s seat.
“Here we go.” He turns the key in the ignition and backs out from the parking lot.
They drive in silence for a bit, and Alec just feels weird. He’s known Magnus for like ten minutes, tops, and somehow he finds himself relaxed in his company. Maybe it’s the smile he flashes him every time they stop at a red light, or the way his eyes are focused on the road when he drives. Alec doesn’t know. But he’s never felt something quite like this before.
He looks around, taking in his surroundings. The inside of the car is just as nice as the outside. The seats are a light-maroon leather, with an stylish cockpit and steer wheel in black. Alec’s gaze wanders to Magnus’ hand on the stick shift, and that’s when he notices his neatly painted fingernails, an elegant dark blue with a bit of shiny glitter.
He realises that he got too caught up in his thoughts as he hears Magnus say his name, probably repeating it, assuming from his tone.
“Sorry, I zoned out for a moment.” Alec resorts as he shakes his head, as if trying to get the thoughts away.
“That’s all right.” Magnus just shrugs lightly. “Are you okay, tho?”
His eyes are still focused back on the road, but Alec swears he can see a glimpse of worry in them.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” Alec nods reassuringly, more to himself, since Magnus is still looking back on the road. “Maybe just a bit nervous.”
“What is this exam about?” Magnus asks and he sounds truly curious.
“Business law.” Alec exhales as he answers.
“Oh, a law student.” Magnus throws him another smile as he nods. “Did you study a lot?”
“Yeah, I did.”
“No worries then. You’ll pass.” Magnus assures.
Alec just lets out another breath, feeling a bit more calm. It sound so simple when Magnus says it.  He doesn’t know how he does it, but he actually believes his words.
Silence falls between them again, but it’s not that kind of uncomfortable one. It in fact feels a bit soothing, and Alec finds a moment to just breathe, before he’ll need to get out of this car to face the word again.
“So, your brother is not very reliable?” Magnus asks, breaking the silence and Alec laughs briefly at his words.
“It’s not one of his greatest qualities.” He states and Magnus hums in answer. “But he got held up in work, it isn’t really his fault.”
“So you share a car?” Magnus question next.
“In theory we do, but it doesn’t really work like that.” They both laugh briefly at his words. “We also live together. With my younger sister.”
“Must be fun.” Magnus resorts and Alec nods as a reply.
There are another few moments of silence, before Alec finally builds up a courage to ask.
“Do you study at the university too?”
“Oh, no.” Magnus makes a sound between a snort and a chuckle. “I’m way past that.”
“What do you do then?” Alec questions interested.
“I’m a chemist.” Magnus states. “I work in a lab nearby your collage. We mostly make cosmetics for some firms, but it’s a nice job. I did study chemistry at your university some time ago.”
“Sound nice.” Alec resorts with a smile.
“It is, really. The atmosphere is nice, I actually get to work with some of my friends. And I get to do something I truly like. I couldn’t really dream of a better job.”
Alec hums in answer and finds himself amused, listening to Magnus talk with such passion about his work. He might get a little lost in his thoughts again, but Magnus’ voice brigs him back to reality again.
“So you study law?” He prompts. “Any particular reason for it?”
Alec seems to think a bit about the answer. As a child, he always thought of becoming a lawyer. He wanted to be like his parents. But now, it’s not really the thought of making his parents proud that’s driven him into this. In some small part it might still be the urge of his parents, the fear of letting them down even more. But mostly it’s another thing.
“I guess I just want to do something good for people.” He finally replies. “Help them, you know?”
“Yeah, I get it.”
With that words, they basically reach the driveway of the university, and Alec realises he doesn’t really want to leave. He could stay with Magnus here and just talk. It’s nice, and Alec hasn’t felt like that in… ever really.
Magnus doesn’t push him to get out, he just turns to him and smiles softly.
“Don’t worry about the exam. I’m sure it’ll be fine.” He comforts again and Alec nods letting out a nervous breath. “But you do need to get going, if you want to make it.”
“Yeah, right I-“ Alec rambles again and Magnus chuckles. “I-, thank you, you really did save my life I-“
“It’s fine, really.” Magnus says, and as he puts his hand on Alec’s thigh in a reassuring gesture he can feel electricity and the pleasant fire caused by the touch. Alec does his best to supress the gasp, that wants to escape his lips.
“Thank you.” Alec just repeats at one exhale.
“Good luck on the test.” Magnus states then and Alec eventually moves to get out of the car.
“Yeah, I- , thanks.” Alec scowls himself for how much he can find his way with words now. “Have a good day at work.” He settles for that and for the last time, catches Magnus’ smile as he closes the door and heads to the building.
He quickly climbs the stairs to reach the hall, but before he gets to open the door to enter, a slim figure with long blonde hair is barring his way.
“Who drove you here?” Lydia asks, simply cutting to the point, not even bothering with ‘hello’. A stern expression on her face, hands clasped on her chest as she eyes Alec curiously.
“Hello to you too, Lydia.” Alec flashes her a tight smile.” What are you talking about?” He tries to circle his friend, but she doesn’t let him.
“I mean,” She puts a hand on his shoulder to stop him, pushing him back. “who gave you a ride?”
“How do you know I didn’t take the bus?” Alec questions as he finally looks down at her.
Actually, he knows why she does. After two years of friendship he learnt that Lydia sees everything, and hears everything. She knows every gossip going around the campus, every person. She’s the leader of the student council and pays attention to every single detail. Alec teases her that she doesn’t have a life, always stalking her friends, but he adores her for caring so much. When they found out Max was sick she’s been there for him. And even when they tease and poke at each other, he knows he can always count on her.
“You know, how I know.” She just states with a grin, and then continues. “I saw you getting out of that car, and I know it wasn’t yours and Jace’s, it wasn’t even your parents’, which would be rather concerning too-“
“You know what my parents’ car looks like?” Alec asks, his eyes widening. Lydia truly has eyes and ears everywhere, not only the campus it seems.
“Of course I know, but it’s not the point now, Alec.” Lydia carries on. “The point is, who drove you today.”
She just stands there and continues to look at him. He knows she won’t let go. She never does, but still, he tries to lead her on.
“It was a friend.”
Lydia only snorts to that.
“Alec, you and I both know that you don’t have any other friends, besides these ones I know.”
“Wow, thank you for believing in my social skills, Lydia.” Alec replies jokingly.
She rolls her eyes and picks back up regardless his comment.
“Why don’t you want to tell me? Who the hell was that?” She wonders, more asking the questions to herself, than to Alec, and as he tries to get past her once more, she stops him again. “Wait! Black car, mysterious person… Alec I swear to God, if you got yourself into some shady business-“
“You really think that less of me?” Lydia opens her mouth to reply, but he interrupts again. “No, I don’t do drugs or any other stuff, I’m not a part of any gang, I’m not selling myself.” He sighs. “What other worries of yours can I decrease, Lydia?” He adds more teasingly, but Lydia’s expressions turns more serious.
“Alec, of course I don’t think that of you. You know I’m just worried, with… everything that’s going on in your life.” She gently rubs his arm with her palm. “And, you can decrease my worries, but telling me who this mysterious person is.” She adds, already brightening up.
“Fine.” He finally gives in. “It was a guy I met at the hospital today. Jace messed up, and he offered me a ride, so I took it.”
Lydia’s expression turns even more suspicious, with a hint of fear behind it.
“Okay, who are you and what did you do to the Alec Lightwood I know?” She asks holding out her hand in a ‘hold up’ gesture, and Alec’s only answer is to roll his eyes at her.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Alec, I love you, but you don’t talk to people.” She shakes her head. “There’s no way you would talk to some stranger on the street, you would just brush him of.” A glint lits up in her eyes, and Alec sees the thoughts running through her brain in her eyes. “Unless…”
“Unless, what?” Alec asks unenthusiastically.
Lydia straightens herself and a playful grin is playing at her face as she prompts again.
“Was he hot?”
“Lydia!” Alec just grunts and finally circles her to enter the class. She chuckles as she follows close behind.
“Alec, that’s the only explanation. Are you lonely?” She teases. “Do you need some love in your life?”
“There’s no time for love in my schedule, Lydia.” Alec states simply as he pulls out his notes from his backpack to look through them again. “But business law exam is.”
“I don’t think love really cares about your schedule.” Lydia whispers, as she slides into a chair next to him.
He throws her one last glare as she grins back at him and then a teacher enters the hall.
For the first time in his life Alec was thankful for an exam, ‘cause Lydia didn’t get a chance to interrogate him even more. Unless for an hour. Right after the class ended she jumped on him with another wave of questions he really didn’t feel like answering.
So mostly, he didn’t.
Somehow he managed to go through the rest of the classes, and it was finally time to go home.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Lydia.” He says when they leave the campus, and he turns to head in the direction of a bus stop.
“Wait!” Lydia calls after him, after he takes a few steps. “You forgot?”
“Forgot, what?” Alec frowns. He quickly scans his daily agenda in his mind, trying to recall something other than the usual.
“We were supposed to study together today. For the law ethics exam?” Lydia reminds him.
Shit, he did forget.
Seems like his head is in totally different place today. He tries to reason with himself, that it has nothing to do with a handsome stranger he met this morning, but it’s a pointless fight. In every class today he caught himself thinking of Magnus. Of the way his eyes were focused back on the road, or the words of reassurance he offered him, or that smile he gave him when Alec was leaving the car…
“Alec!” Lydia’s yell pulls him out of his thoughts. “Too busy thinking of that hot stranger?” She teases and Alec just rolls his eyes.
“I wasn’t thinking about him.” He states, but by the way this words come out, he’s pretty sure he’s betraying himself.
“Sure you weren’t.” Lydia resorts sarcastically, of course hearing the change in his voice, then she comes closer to him. “But seriously, if you’re busy tonight we can reschedule. The exam isn’t in another week-“
“No, it’s fine. It just completely slipped my mind.” Alec admits. “Let’s go to my place.”
“Okay.” Lydia answers simply and together in comfortable silence they march to the bus stop. Then Lydia eventually breaks the silence, when they enter the bus. Her tone teasing and light, as she leans in to Alec. “So are you going to tell me more about that guy of yours?”
He grunts again. Lydia seems to enjoy this too much. He wishes he was able to keep his mouth shut around her. But her questioning eyes and stern expression are enough to make him talk. Lydia can be terrifying when she wants to. That’s how Alec knows she’s going to be an amazing lawyer.
But he doesn’t speak, when Lydia still rumbles about that guy, with an amused grin on her face.
Soon, they reach Alec’s apartment. He quickly unlocks the door, and lets Lydia in.
The flat itself isn’t much. They didn’t really afford a lot, when they decided to move out. But all Izzy, Jace and Alec have separate bedrooms (thank God, because Jace tends to bring girls home quite often). There’s a living room connected to the kitchen area, and one bathroom. It’s enough. If someone wants to stay over, there’s always a couch in the living room. They don’t really need anything more.
“Hi!” Isabelle speaks when they enter the apartment. “Lydia, it’s so good to see you!” She exclaims and moves to hug her. “What brings you here?”
“Hi, Izzy. Long-time no see.” The blonde girl states with a smile. “We’re going to study.”
“Of course you are.” Izzy puts her hands on her hips. “You always are. Seems like Alec only brings you here for you to be his teacher.”
The girls laugh as they all move to the kitchen, and Alec puts some drinks out of the fridge.
“We’ll see who’s going to be teaching who.” He mocks, and Lydia throws him a glare.
“So,” Isabelle prompts as he leans on her elbows against the kitchen counter. “How was the exam today?”
Alec doesn’t know how she does it, but Izzy seems to remember everyone’s schedule, with her own not being very carefree. She’s studying forensic pathology, first year, and she’s still getting used to all of the collage stuff. But that doesn’t make her any less observant. Maybe she just always notices how nervous Alec becomes when the exams are coming up…
“It was good.” Alec answers her question after a while, looking at Lydia who nods in confirmation.
“Wait, you got to take it today?” Suddenly Jace’s voice sounds as he makes his way to the kitchen to join the rest. He quickly greets Lydia, but mostly, his gaze remains focused on Alec. “You said there was no way you’d make it on time.” He adds with curiosity in his eyes.
“Alec got a ride...” Lydia begins in a chanting tone. “From a man…”
And here it goes.
“What?!” Isabelle exclaims, straightening from the counter. “From who? Do I know him? How does he look like? Is he handsome?-“
“Maybe one question at a time Izzy.” Alec scolds, not exactly meeting her eyes, but also turning from Jace’s inquisitive gaze.
At first sight, Jace may appear as the type of careless, irresponsible bad boy, who can have anything he wants. But it’s not exactly true. He does care about a lot of things, his family the most. He worries too, even when he tries not let it show. And since Alec’s mental health has been getting quite worse considering Max’s current state, he’s become rather overprotective. True, he is irresponsible sometimes. Especially after a night out, including a few drinks and a fight with some girl. He did broke the living room table (twice), but still, he’s a good person.
Another thing about the Lightwood siblings, is that they have developed some kind of obsession with Alec’s dating life. Growing up, he didn’t really have any love life. He realised he was gay around the age of fifteen, told his siblings a year later, which they all accepted with no judgement. He decided to come out to his parents at his eighteen birthday, and he did. That’s when hell broke loose. His father had nothing else to say, than that Alec’s a disgrace to his family. That he’s no man, and he’ll never be, unless he stops fooling around and gets a grip. He even threatened to throw him out of the house, and if not his mother, he probably would have. But she wasn’t very pleased with Alec either. They hadn’t even spoken for about a month, later they only talked to each other when they needed something…
He spend most of his life just being scared of who he is, and trying to repress all of these feelings. He was never really looking for love, always too busy with studying. He wanted to make his parents proud, and they hated him as a person, so he thought maybe he would be able to impress them with his achievements.
It didn’t work, but still he needed to keep his mind occupied.
He did have one boyfriend when he was starting college, Raj, but things between them didn’t really go so well…
After their break up, Jace became even more concerned and overprotective.
But earlier whenever there was an occasion, Alec’s siblings liked to take it. They tried to set him up a few times (to which he either refused, or it ended up being a total disaster), but mostly they just need to know everything to make sure Alec is okay. And he loves them for that, but can’t help the feeling that it’s him who's supposed to protected them, he’s their big brother, and they shouldn’t worry about him so much. He can handle himself. He just  needs to take care of his siblings first, that’s his job…
“So, who was he?” Jace asks, when Alec still refuses to meet his eyes.
“Come on, Alec, tell us!” Izzy beams enthusiastically.
Alec lets out a long exhale, but he knows there’s no point in trying to lead them on. They’ll find out anyway. Either from Lydia, or somehow from him.
“It was just a guy I met at the hospital.” He begins. “He offered me a ride, so I took it.”
“A total stranger?” His brother prompts.
“Well… yeah, I guess so.”
“Alec, you realise-“ Jace tries again, to which Alec jus growls in frustration.
“God, Jace I’m not five. If he had been a serial killer I would just run off or something.”
“I know,” Jace attempts with a little less judgement now. “I know, but you know I’m just worried.”
“Yeah.” Alec sighs. “But you don’t need to. I’m okay, and I’ll probably never see him again, so really, no worries.”
Jace still eyes him cautiously, but after a while nods, and lets it go. For now.
“Okay,” Isabelle starts now. “Since we can be done fearing for your life, now get to the details.”
She smiles teasingly, joining Lydia at the other end of the counter, and they both wait for him to elaborate.
“There’s nothing more to talk about.” He just states solely. “We drove, talked a bit and that’s all.”
“That’s all he’s been telling me the whole day!” Lydia grunts. “Seriously, it’ll be a miracle if you’ll get something more out of him.” She turns to Izzy with a resigned expression.
“Oh, don’t worry.” A smirk is creeping onto his sister’s face. “I have my ways.”
Alec just looks at her with brows raised in question to which she shrugs.
“First, what did you talk about?” She asks, and somehow Alec knows he doesn’t want her to get to that part when she’s threatening to embarrass him with their childhood stroies in front of his only friend, so he bends.
“Just work, and school.” He shrugs.
“Okay, what’s his name? He did get a name, right?” Isabelle continues.
“Yeah, I’m not stupid.” Alec snorts. “It’s Magnus.”
He feels his cheeks reddening with even a mention of his name. This isn’t normal, he thinks. Thinking about him, gives him this weird feeling in his stomach. He’s not sure if it’s good or bad yet.
Isabelle just smiles, less jokingly this time, as she prompts another question.
“Would you like to see him again?”
Alec doesn’t really need to think as his mind slips him an answer immediately. Yes, of course yes, a million times yes. And to be honest, it’s scary. Because Alec hasn’t let himself want something so much in a very long time. Or probably ever.
“It doesn’t matter.” He resorts firmly. “Even if I wanted to, it’s unlikely that we will ever meet again.” He swiftly turns to Lydia and adds. “Come on, we need to study.”
With that, he drags her out of the kitchen, ignoring any words of protest, and they head to his bedroom to study.
He needs to take his mind of off thinking about Magnus.
The rest of the week passes normally. He goes to classes every day, writes a few articles and sends them to a local newspaper, so he can get at least a bit of money. Before he knows it, it’s Wednesday again, which means it’s time for another session with Mr Fell.
It also goes smoothly, they talk, sit in silence, anything that makes him comfortable. Mr Fell doesn’t push, and Alec is glad he doesn’t. They both know it will take time for him to open up. Or at least Alec hopes so, he really wouldn’t like to waste Mr Fell’s time.
Soon, the session is over and when he heads out after briefly visiting Max, he hears his name being called. He turns and he’s met with that handsome face again.
So when a not so unfamiliar stranger offers him a ride again, he doesn’t really hesitate to say yes.
Inside TMI Gang's diaries part 3 - 2/2 for CoG
Clary: Dear diary, so what can I say a lot has happened, me and Sebastian went to find Ragnor and instead found. Magnus, he pretended to be Ragnor. And Sebastian kissed me and it felt wrong, but also he took me to the place where the Fairchild manor use to be, he took me to a burned down manor, and everything felt wrong. Anyway me and Jace also made the Wayland Manor collapse and figured out my father was torturing am angel. Jace is also mad at me so yay.
*Later*
So um... Where do I begin, a lot has happened Idris was attacked, Max... Is dead and the Lightwoods are in pieces, Jace wrote me a love letter and ran off to go after Valentine and get himself killed most likely, Izzy I think probably still doesn't like me, my mom's back but I am mad at her, and she informed me that Jace isn't my brother and now all I can think about is how I want to tell him. Now we are preparing for the next battle so gotta make a rune brb.
*Later, later*
So my father was trying to raise the angel to destroy all the Downworlders, right, so um he killed Jace and I kinda replaced his name in the sand with mine and I used the wish to bring Jace back but like what will people think, oh well, I'd do again if it meant to have him back, safe and alive, to get to love him and make him happy, though idk does he still want me? either way I'd do it again. Also I can't wait to get back to new york and get some COFFEE!, but also please don't let Jace not love me anymore.
Jace: Dear diary, you'll find me in a bad spot at this moment, things have fallen apart, Hodge is dead but I don't feel much for him, Max was killed and I can't help but blame myself, after all it is my fault. The manor where I grew up collapsed and while I knew it was my childhood home, it also felt freeing watching it all fall apart, like watching the bad memories in that place being crushed, like seeing that you can heal. But as I am watching Clary sleep, I know I won't get the chance to ever heal myself, I love her but will never have a future with her, and I have to go after my father and stop him, I know where my journey ends and I always knew it would never be a happy ending for me. So I'll write her a letter and leave with her, I'll tell her all my feelings and let her know what she means to me. I know Izzy and Alec will understand in time. And I probably won't be coming back.
*Later*
So I died but was brought back, I also fought Clary's creepy brother and my father is dead, I feel empty in so many ways, apparently my actual parents were Stephen and Céline Herondale, which would mean Imogen was my grandmother, I don't know what people want me to say or do, I don't even know who I am anymore. Amatis gave me a box with stuff that belonged to my father in it, but I don't know this man, and I know nothing about my mother, I am sitting here looking through it but what am I supposed to feel? I am sitting here thinking about how Clary asked for me of all the things she could have had but maybe she didn't actually want me now, maybe she felt she owed me and that was it, I wouldn't blame her, but I love her, I love her more than anything, I want to see her so bad, she always knows what to say to me and how to comfort me, I miss her. We are also going back to new york soon and thankfully the news that I am apparently a Herondale hasn't gotten to far out yet and hopefully I'll be gone before it does, I don't want to see the stares or hear the whispers. And I'll be back to my room and my blades.
Alec: Dear diary, I write to you today with mixed feelings, of loss and gain, Max is gone and it's all my fault, I spent so much time trying to protect Jace and Izzy that I forgot Max needed protecting too, me and Magnus are a thing now I think, but I can't help but feel guilty because I shouldn't have something so great when I failed to protect my baby brother. Mom and Dad probably will hate me now and Izzy is too shocked and upset for anything honestly, she blames herself but it really isn't her fault. Jace ran off and if I lose him too I don't know if I'll be able to go on like I use to.
*Later*
Somehow our gang is still alive, i have no idea why or how but we are, the pain and hurt and grief is still strong but we will have to carry on. Jace is a Herondale and honestly I don't know how to feel, but he must be so conflicted, I am giving him space cause I know that's what he needs right now. Izzy is hanging with Simon who got her to get out of her room and maybe there will be some friendship between them, me and Magnus are apparently going on a trip and it is what I need, I can't be around at the moment with everybody staring and grieving. And I think everyone needs some space right now, hopefully we'll all be able to get through it, hopefully me and Magnus will be together.
Magnus: Dear diary, there is much to say but no time for it, the Shadowhunters are at war, not surprised, Alec asked me why I never called him back in the middle of a fight, honestly this man, but also he kissed me in front of people in the accords hall which is all I needed him to do to tell me he is serious, although he has also lost so much and I can only hope for the strength he'll need to get through it, we are going to war but Biscuit has made a rune to unite Shadowhunters and Downworlders, honestly this girl is gonna surprise the Clave in many ways and cause so much chaos, I can't wait to see it.
*Later*
We are all pretty much are alive, many were lost but we won the war, if you can call it a win. Me and Alec will be going on a trip, I hope maybe it will help him cope a little, Shadowhunters aren't known for grieving too long, but I think it would do good for them to grieve longer for their lost. Jace is a Herondale and now everything makes much more sense as to why he is the way he is, he has a journey ahead of him though and I can only imagine what he must be feeling, Isabelle I have much respect for and I hope she'll find the comfort she needs in the ones who care for her, Simon Lewis is a brave boy and deserves more credit than people give him, Biscuit is the bravest and I wish her well on her journey to becoming a Shadowhunter, although I don't think Jocelyn will be pleased. I am heading back to new york after the party tonight to deliver the news of Ragnor's death to Catarina and Raphael, and to catch up on some stuff before me and Alec leave, I still wonder if it is all over though.
Izzy: Dear diary, I don't know what to say, so much is lost and I don't know what to do, it's the first time in my life I have felt this lost, it's all my fault that Max is dead, I should have protected him, I never should have trusted that piece of trash Sebastian, if I could kill him I would and if I get the chance I will, Hodge is dead as well but honestly don't care. Simon came to see me and comforted me, he is the only one who didn't say that I need to be strong or that it will get better, he just held me and said it's gonna hurt for a while but your aren't alone, and that's all I needed. And Jace ran off, I wasn't gonna follow him cause I respected his decision but I can't let him die thinking there's something wrong with him or that Clary is his sister, he deserves to know.
*Later*
Sebastian is dead and I am happy about that, many were lost but not my loved ones, I thank the angel for that, Jace is a Herondale and I don't know what he'll do but I won't let people take him, he's my brother, him and Clary can finally be together and I wish them happiness, if the two idiots would realize that they still want each other lol sometimes I wonder about my brothers, Alec is with Magnus now and all I can say is finally. I'll see where things with Simon goes and I actually kinda hope it goes somewhere, but I'll never say that out loud. I still blame myself for Max but I got to keep going, I know he'd want me to.
Simon: Dear diary, my prison friend turned out to be Hodge and he is dead now, idk how to feel, I almost burned tho, at least I was saved, that Sebastian killed Max and I feel terrible for the Lightwoods, Izzy is a wreck and I comforted her after everything, Clary and Jace aren't siblings and I am happy to hear that, it means they won't be suffering anymore and the angst will stop but Jace ran off and he may not come back so maybe it will be worse, Jocelyn is awake and idk what will happen when we get back but I don't think Clary plans to stop being a Shadowhunter, also speaking of my badass best friend, she made an alliance rune, and put the mark of cain on me she feels terrible about that last one but I asked her for a reason, it will all be okay.
*Later*
Everything is okay, thank God, mostly everyone is alive and we can go back to somewhat normal life, tho I don't know how they expect the Lightwoods to, Jace is a Herondale and I guess that's basically a kinda Royal Shadowhunter family? Idk, Clary and Jace appear to be okay, they walked up to us holding hands and it seems they worked things out, I am happy for them. Things with Izzy may be going somewhere but also things with Maia are going somewhere, idk what to do but it may end terribly, Magnus and Alec are a thing now and that's good, I just want to get back to new york and out of here.
Sebastian: Dear diary, these dumbasses have no idea who I really am, father said they wouldn't but I thought maybe they were smarter, especially Jace, you were raised by father as well you pathetic boy, but I guess you fell in love which is exactly what father told you not to do, although he is punishing you for it and trying to get back control over by making you believe Clary is your sister and making you think you are a monster, I am enjoying the show, honestly maybe you'll end yourself that would be fun to watch, although I'd like to kill you myself, after all you were always father's favorite and I would love to see father's face when I kill you, I hope you know I will kill you if I can.
*later*
Well apparently I am dead.
Church: Dear Cat diary, the idiots all lived except the kid, I feel bad he had so much more life to live, the Herondale figured out he was a Herondale congratulations Dum dum, maybe his tragic love will end now that he knows, also Jem seriously I miss you and still want you to save me. Magnus and Alec are together now and it's about damn fucking time, Isabelle is gonna be Isabelle, I feel that Simon kid will be around more now, Clary will probably be a Shadowhunter now, so much fucking happened and honestly the Shadowhunters need to get their shit together. Valentine may be dead but the stuff he caused isn't, there is much to be rebuilt, I just hope the drama is over, I am getting to old for this shit. Jem again I miss you and you are the only other intelligent one, end my suffering please!, Also I want some tuna, I'm gonna go find that Herondale to get me some.
(again not my best but the others will be better, I can't wait to continue, hopefully you enjoy these)
Yeah, here I am once again. Appearing after the chaos I created 😂 but OMG WE HAVE ONLY ONE CHAPTER LEFT?? AND THEN THERE COMES THE ANGST?? I'M READY
I'm glad to inform you I finished the homework and I have only two assignments and two exams left that I will today :)) It was like:
Me: Maybe I should do this tomorrow??
Brain: But what about Dani?? And the chapter??
Me: Fuck, you are right, I need to do this :(
But anyways, here I am:
"He had been woken up by music, by love, by violence and by nightmares. And out of all those times, out of all those centuries, this was easily his favourite way to wake up." just the beginning and I'm having lots of feels🥺🥺
“Happy anniversary,” Magnus grinned against the other man’s mouth. “Happy anniversary,” Alec whispered. Fifteen years.Fifteen years since Alec Lightwood loved one man so much that he had changed the world for him." 15 YEARS? HRJWKDJDJ LOVE THEM💙
"Magnus understood why his son was acting all over the place. The boy was supposed to take up the position of Consul after Alec" *singing "Oh baby, no baby, you got it all wrong baby" *
"Next thing he knew, Alec was on top of him. His mouth was on Magnus. Where, exactly, Magnus didn’t notice – or care. He liked Alec everywhere." OH WELL, THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY! 😏
"Not the kind of banging he had hoped to start the day with to be honest." OH god😂😂 I love this man. He is the bane of my existence!” (I just-  The puns are killing me 😂)
“It might be karma, darling,”  (He got a point. Karma is a bitch)
“Since when do you have a problem with excessive glitter?” (Yeah Alec, Your excuses are getting worst 😂)
"You better do it, or I will tell everyone about your secret" YOU LITTLE SHIT!
"That child is the reincarnation of Christopher Lightwood!” 😂😂 i literally scared my dog cause I laughed so hard!!
"There were whispers and rumours all over the shadow world that Angel Raziel had given up on Alec’s Clave." OH THE FUCK NO!! I SWEAR I WILL THROW SOME HANDS AT HEAVEN!! "Because if Magnus found out Raziel was the one causing all this pain for Alec, he would march up to heaven and set the bastard on fire himself." FUCK YEAH. I'M COMING WITH YOU!! 🔪 🔪
“Livia Blackthorn had been listening through the Idris wards to gather pieces of information that might be crucial for Alec’s Council.” I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT WAS LIVVY!!
Selena is Ragnor’s favorite!!! I LOVE IT
“The shadowhunter was a good influence on him. Magnus hoped Alec would see it sooner rather than later.”😂😂 You love him Alec and you know it!!
“She walked over to Magnus and hugged him tightly. And he sensed it immediately. The second heartbeat.” What?? WHAT??? I ALMOST SCREAMED. OMG. OMG
“Magnus stared at the necklace. The necklace he had bought in the 19th century for Camille. The necklace that had ended up in the hands of Will Herondale and then his sister. The necklace that had belonged to the Lightwood family for generations.” OMG SHE IS GIVING HIM THE LIGHTWOOD NECKLACE!!! THAT THING LITERALLY COMPLETE THE CIRCLE. BELONGED TO MAGNUS, CAMILLE, WILL, CECILY, ALL THE LIGHTWOODS AND THE MAGNU’S SON!!
I'm freaking out now because Izzy doesn't know??? Or maybe she does???And it's waiting to tell them?? I feel like a worried parent!!!
“But he knew it was all part of growing up. He would never pressure them to talk about their feelings or force them to make themselves vulnerable. All he could do was be there for them when they were ready to let it all out. “Do you want to tell me about it?” Magnus asked. He tried. Just in case.” What do I see here? Parenting doing right💙💙
“If you want love, you must be willing to accept the vulnerability that comes with it.” I just. This man gives the best advice ever!!
“I’ll try,” Rafael promised. “I don’t like lying.” “I know,” Magnus smiled. “So much like your dad.” But Alec did lie though. Magnus pushed the thought away. (Why is this such a rollercoaster??)
“His children were so much like his husband that sometimes it made Magnus wonder if they needed him at all. It was a ridiculous thought of course. But it stilled swam around his head. Sometimes a part of him thought it would be better if Alec had been the one to stay back and Magnus was the one to leave. The kids would be better off with Alec, his mind said. He always knew what to do with them.” IT'S NOT OK TO MAKE ME CRY WHEN I HAVE AN EXAM IN 3 MINUTES!!
Back from my exam 😂😂 And don’t worry. Just got one mistake :))
“Max of course was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. His regular look. But just below the pearl necklace wrapped around his neck was the Lightwood necklace.” YES. MAX WEARING THE LIGHTWOOD NECKLACE!!
“Alec walked out of their bedroom a moment later, and Magnus quite literally felt his heart stutter. Fifteen years. Fifteen years of loving and Alec still made his heart stutter.” They are the reason I believe in love💙💙
“If Magnus wasn’t wrong, he could see the thin layer of kohl under Alec’s blue eyes. Alec rarely enjoyed wearing makeup. But he rarely enjoyed saying no to children too. Magnus threw Rafael a grateful smile and the boy winked back.” Magnus and Rafael getting Alec to wear makeup is my will to live 😂😂
“The words died on Alec’s lips when his eyes fell on Magnus. The man sighed as he stared at Magnus. Fifteen years. Fifteen years and Magnus still took Alec’s breath away.” Jagcydwjendieu I’m emo
What?” Magnus asked coyly. “Is it too much?” “You know damn well it’s not,” Alec hissed and pulled Magnus towards him. “You look perfect. How do you look so perfect?” “Because I am standing next to you,” Magnus smiled.( They bad/perfect flirting it's just *chef kiss*)
“Bapak is a good looking one in the family,” Rafael pointed out. “You are the chaotic one and I am the smart one.” “What am I then?” Alec asked dryly. “A sack of potatoes?” “You’re the sexy one,” Magnus grinned. “A sexy sack of potatoes.” (THAT FAMILY IS KILLING ME IN THE GOOD WAY💙💙)
Magnus nudged Rafael on the back. The boy sighed and walked to his brother. “Come,” he took Max’s hand and led him to his bedroom. “Let’s find you something nice to wear, okay?” Max mumbled again but followed Rafael anyway. (I just can’t with all the love this family has!!!)
“Nope,” Alec said. “They are stuck with me.” “And you’re stuck with me,” Magnus replied. “I wouldn’t be anywhere else, Magnus,” Alec randomly speaks poetry… And he says he is not good with words??
“Selena was wearing a blue crop top with the words “MIND YOUR OWN UTEREUS” written in gold. David was in a simple sky-blue t-shirt, the colour of Max’s magic.” OK BUT THEM?? THEY’RE BEAUTIFUL
“Max hadn't changed his clothes. But he was wearing a blue leather jacket that belonged to Rafael. He looked happy about it.” I said it once and I will say it again. They are the definition of siblings
NO!! IT'S TIME FOR THE TOAST. I’M GOING TO CRY!!
"To Alec and Magnus - for being themselves and inspiring everyone else to do the same." CHEERS TO THAT BRO!!
“Isabelle,” Magnus called gently. “Let’s go easy on the champagne tonight, yes?” YES IZZY. I’M WORRIED ABOUT YOU AND YOU NEED TO REST AND BE PROTECTED OK? OK
“The argument of “who gave the best gift” had started when Jace and Izzy had gotten drunk on vodka. It didn’t help that Alec had gotten drunk as well. All three Lightwood siblings had then proceeded to have an argument about who had the best spouse. The whole night had been drunken chaos. “
“So, Magnus had let his husband be that 18-year-old boy again. The boy who got drunk and fought with his siblings and sang songs about Magnus’ pretty eyes” 💙💙💙💙 This is just to pure
Ok, I feel like this is the chapter of the snippet from a long time ago. The one of Alec and Magnus in the closet while Mavid were talking, but I’m not sure
Why couldn’t this boy just cause chaos during his travel year like the rest of them? Why did he actually study and do his research as recommended?😂😂LMAOO
“Magnus didn’t know why. But the room suddenly felt rather hot. Poor David noticed his discomfort and came to his rescue. But unfortunately, the rescue attempt only made it worse” David, I love you with all my entire heart, but seriously??
DANI, NO! We have already been through this!! I have trauma out of this!!
OK, ok. It could have been worst
“But the time for talking was done. They were living it now.” I SWEAR I’M NOT CRYING!!
“Afraid of what?” Magnus asked. “I’m afraid you won’t find me attractive,” Alec said so quietly that Magnus barely heard it (MY HEART!!)
“But death is so much better than this. It’s so much better than waiting for the day you look at me and I no longer see that spark in your eyes.” THIS. THIS WAS THE DEAD OF ME
Fuck, i have an exam in 5 minutes and now I’m crying
Finally out of the exam 😂 This teacher literally asks us a question from the guidebook and if it's not 100% what it said there, then we fail
But going back to this HOLY SHIT I LOVE MAGNUS!!
“Did something say something to you?” Jace demanded, standing up angrily. “Because I swear by the angel-” “Nobody said anything, Jace!” Alec rolled his eyes. “I own a mirror!” “And is this mirror broken or something?” Isabelle asked incredulously. “Alec, honestly!” (I BELIEVE IN LIGHTWOOD SIBLINGS SUPREMACY!!)
“Yeah, man!” Simon nodded. “You are objectively good looking.” “Objectively good looking?” Jace snorted. “Excuse you, but my parabatai is smoking hot! He is a freaking prize, okay? If we had a magazine for hot shadowhunters, you would be on the cover page. Every single issue.” “Okay, that’s enough!” Alec interrupted. “Magnus, are you happy? Now all my friends have told me I am pretty.” “I said smoking hot,” Jace corrected. (*Sighs* I fucking love parabatai)
“Dad, I don’t know why you are so worried,” Max said in a bored tone. “You’re a total DILF.” David choked on his champagne and Jace patted him on the back. I’m dying jajdhuwejdjkew😂😂
“It means Dashing and Irresistible Looking Father” Singing again *Oh baby, no baby, you got it all wrong baby* Idk when this turned from Alec feeling self conscious to Thirsting Over Alec Lightwood-Bane but I’m here for it. Seriously. My mom is in front of me. She thinks and doing homework. And I’m just trying to keep a straight face (so hard) This is not working. I’m about to scream😂😂
2I can’t understand how you could look at yourself and not see what I see.”
“They stared at the picture on Max’s wall. The picture of Max and Rafael grinning ear to ear when they had visited Peru to piss Magnus off.” THOSE LIL SHITS!
tiEvery me they call each other baby my skin clears and i have three more years of life
“No,” Magnus managed a smile. “Sometimes things are just sad. So, you need to let yourself be sad.” 💙💙
“It’s Max!” Alec said. “We have to hide!" “Hide? This is our home!” (OH BOY😂😂)
I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAVE THE SCENE!! “When I die, I will love you from my grave,” David said now. “I will love you from heaven.” WHY DO THEY ALL SPEAK POETRY?
Don’t let him go, Magnus whispered to Max inside his heart. Don’t ever let him get away.” MAVID IS JUST SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL!
“He wondered how strong a person must be to not give up on guardian angels and the idea of heaven after being dragged through hell by his demon of a father.” My boy is strong af
“I don’t believe in angels or heaven,” Alec said then. “But I feel blessed to be loved by you too.” Magnus smiled against Alec’s neck. “Stop stealing David’s dialogues.”💙💙 I have said this to much but I love them
“For the rest of the night, they danced and laughed and drank and smiled. Of course, there was the sadness of time hanging over their heads. But they ignored it. They focused on the love in front of them.” These lines are just amazing
“And sorry,” David said quickly. “I apologize if I said something out of turn before. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble-” BOY COULD YOU STOP BEING PERFECT??
“For what it’s worth, I don’t think it matters who you brought the necklace for,” David said, his blue eyes on Magnus. “Everything you do is out of love, Mr. Lightwood-Bane. And I think that’s beautiful.” EVEN MAGNUS STAY SPEECHLESS!!
“That’s not what I meant,” Jace shook his head. “David and Max. A shadowhunter and a warlock. They are together. They are happy. That’s cause of you, Alec. You and Magnus did that.” Magnus smiled at this husband. “Listen to your parabatai. He gets wise so very rarely.” YES THEY DID. I’M SO FUCKING PROUD!
“But he did it now. For Alec. Because Alexander Lightwood always has been and always will be his only exception.” The Malec feelings I’m getting from this are to much
“Magnus smiled. “How do I look?” “Immaculate,” Alec whispered. In the mirror, Magnus could see himself. His dark hair was woven with strands of gray. He had wrinkles on his face, just around the eyes. When Magnus smiled, his eyes crinkled.” OMG OMG!! I’M CRYING
“Magnus took Alec’s hand in his and put it over his heart. “Promise me you will stop smoking.” THANK YOU MAGNUS. LITERALLY THANK YOU!!
“I don’t care how they look at me. I care how you look at me," Alec smiled softly. "Because I only ever look back at you, Magnus.” Alec says these things like they aren’t worth a museum
I would never tell you what to do with your body, Alexander. But-” “Well, you tell me sometimes,” Alec snickered against his mouth. “Stop making jokes to avoid serious conversations,” Magnus slapped his husband on the arm. “That’s my thing.”😂😂
“Magnus stayed awake that night. He stayed awake and told his brain to cherish every single memory from tonight. That’s how Magnus spent every night. He would stay awake and ask his mind to remember.” THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND ACCURATE I ACTUALLY FORGET ITS NOT CANON
“And then he dreamt.In his dream, he saw them again. But they weren’t smiling this time.” :) Seriously?? SERIOUSLY? I’M SO DONE, YET I’M STILL HERE??
Ugh this was so beautiful i just can- I closed Tumblr so I didn’t get spoiled 😂 Amazing as always and I’m just going to have Malec feels for the rest of the day.
P.s. I was listening to One Last Time by LP and got even more emo 💙💙
This whole thing me so emo wtf 😭😭😭
I love your reactions so much 🥺🥺🥺
Also you reading fanfiction minutes before the exam is such a big dick move istg never change bro 😎
flufftober day 24:  sand
take me back to the house and the backyard trees
Someone was in his sandbox, Alec realized from his spot on the couch. Izzy had dragged him into a Disney movie marathon a few hours before, and though he’d complained, he really didn’t mind. Right now they were on Sleeping Beauty, one Alec personally had never been much a fan of, and his attention had been drawn to the window.
He stood, much to his little sister’s disappointment. His eyes stayed on the figure in his sandbox. Maybe it's Jace, he thought. But no, this person had darker hair.
“Where are you going?” Izzy whined while he put on his sneakers.
“Outside, duh.” He rolled his eyes when Izzy stuck her tongue out at him.
He stepped outside into the afternoon light, shutting the door gently behind him so as not to wake his baby brother. They’d celebrated Max’s third birthday just a few days ago, and everyone in the family was all too aware of how much their little monster of a toddler needed his naps.
The sun was just dipping below the trees, painting the sky muted pinks and purples. The warm air felt nice after being inside in the air conditioning all day, much too hot earlier to venture outside for more than a few minutes at a time.
The boy was still sitting in the sandbox, hands combing random patterns into the surface. His back faced Alec, but he recognized him now that he was closer. It was Magnus, the boy who’s family had just moved in next door a few days earlier. They’d met once, when Alec’s parents had insisted they all go over like polite neighbors and introduce themselves. He seemed nice, but Alec couldn’t help but frown when Magnus had kept calling him Alexander. Only his parents called him that.
“Hey,” he said, watching Magnus turn in surprise. The boy’s gold eyes widened.
“Hi,” he said, jumping to his feet. Grains of sand fell off his shorts like a waterfall. “Sorry, I should go.” He spoke quickly, but Alec still heard the slight wobble in his voice, and Alec definitely didn’t miss the wet streak on his cheek.
“No, it’s okay,” Alec said before Magnus could disappear. He walked closer and plopped down into the sand, patting the spot beside him so Magnus would sit again.
Magnus looked at him hesitantly for a minute before dropping back into the sand.
“Are you okay?” Alec asked quietly.
Magnus’s eyes met his, wide and maybe a little embarrassed. “Yeah,” he said after a few seconds. “My mom and step-dad got in a fight earlier and he was yelling at her, and then he yelled at me. I needed to get out for a little bit.”
Alec gave him a small smile. “My parents fight a lot, too. It got a little better when my baby brother was born but it’s getting bad again.” He scrunched up his nose. “Why did your step-dad yell at you?”
Magnus shrugged. “I don’t know. I don’t think he likes me very much.”
“Well, then, he’s stupid,” Alec said decidedly. He stood and held out a hand. “Come on, let’s do something fun.
Magnus raised his eyebrows. “Like what?”
“We could ride bikes,” Alec suggested. He frowned when Magnus sighed and shook his head.
“I don’t have a bike,” he explained.
Alec thought for a moment. “You can borrow Jace’s. He wouldn’t mind, but if he does I’ll take all the blame, I promise.”
Magnus laughed, the first real smile Alec had seen from him lighting up his face. He took Alec’s hand and let himself be pulled to his feet. “Alright. What a hero,” he laughed again.
“I’m his brother. He can’t kill me without making Mom or Dad angry,” he shrugged, grinning.
They spent the rest of the afternoon biking around the neighborhood, talking and laughing and quickly becoming best friends.
“Do you remember when we first met?”
Magnus’s voice was soft and warm as Alec felt lying there in his arms. Alec hummed, both in content and in response to the question.
“I assume you mean the first time we actually talked and not the time my parents forced me to be polite to the new neighbors.”
Magnus laughed, the sound ringing out in the quiet of their apartment. Alec grinned. He’d loved the sound that afternoon, and he sure as hell loved it now, more than a decade later. “Yes, that’s exactly what I mean.”
“Well,” Alec said, pretending to think for a moment. “I guess I do remember you breaking into my sandbox and rudely interrupting the Disney movie I was watching with Iz.”
Magnus smacked his arm playfully. “I did not break in.” Alec reached out and caught his hand before he could pull it away, lacing his fingers through Magnus’s. “And besides, you helped me steal Jace’s bike.”
Alec snorted, feeling Magnus smile against his neck. “So basically we were both eight year old criminals?”
“Well you certainly stole my heart.” Alec couldn’t see it but he knew Magnus was winking.
“You, Magnus Bane, are the biggest sap I have ever met in my entire life.”
“Is that a bad thing, Alexander?” Alec smiled. He’d once hated when Magnus called him by his full name, but now he loved it. He loved Magnus’s voice, but especially the way his own name rolled of his tongue, the way he always said it so reverently like it was the most important word in the world. It managed to steal Alec’s breath every single time.
“No, it’s not. I love it.” He turned, stretching so he could meet his fiancé’s golden eyes. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Magnus said, leaning closer and connecting their lips, the kiss short and sweet. “Sap,” he whispered against Alec’s lips.
Help me piece it all together, darling, before it falls apart: Jace[A Mortal Instruments Fanfic]
Clary | Jace
It was done, but that was different than saying it was finished. Or Clary and Jace post-CoHF.
Warnings: Discussion of the death of a child
I don’t own TSC, all these books belong to Cassandra Clare. Title from “Quarter Past Midnight” by Bastille.
Theoretically, you could either read Clary’s part first or Jace’s. Since I had to post them in an order, I did it in the order I wrote them (Clary first and then Jace). This is Jace’s part.
Jace
The New York Institute is an entirely different place now. Robert came home for only a couple days and in that time packed up all his things and moved them to the Inquisitor's mansion in Idris. Alec hasn’t moved his things out, but he and Magnus are pretty obviously living together and everytime he stops by the Institute he brings a few more of his things back to Magnus’s with him. Isabelle spends most of her time cloistered in her room grieving, Maryse does the same in her office. Elijah Highsong is quite possibly the most difficult person to tolerate ever.
All in all, things are not going well for the Lightwoods.
Maryse doesn’t cook anymore. Jace doesn’t begrudge her for it, in fact he completely understands. However, Izzy is perfectly capable of giving herself food poisoning with her own cooking if left alone, so Jace goes to the store and stocks up on frozen and easy-to-make meals so his mother and sister don’t starve. As for him, he appetite is not coming back. He knows its stress, but that doesn’t make it easier to eat when he feels like he’ll be sick if he tries.
He does a lot of training just to distract himself. He trains to make himself tired enough to sleep, he trains when he can’t sleep, he trains with Clary, he trains with Isabelle, he trains with Alec. His every spare moment--and he has a lot of spare moments now--is spent either training or chasing sleep.
He practically lives for his sessions with Clary. She’s more focused on her training than ever, probably because she’s trying not to think about Simon. Dimly, Jace is aware that he should probably try to make sure Clary develops better coping mechanisms than he has, but that would require him to actually know some better coping mechanisms, which he doesn’t.
On January 18, 2008 Jace turns seventeen and celebrates his real birthday for the first time. After early morning training and boredom-inducing lessons with Elijah Highsong, Jace and Clary go to the Strand. Clary looks at the manga and the art books, while Jace stakes out in the poetry section and paces up and down, plucking delicate chapbooks from the shelves. He hasn’t been in a bookstore since August and the feeling is surreal, like it belongs in another world. In the end, Clary ends up paying for all their books simply because she snatches Jace’s from him and won’t give them back no matter how much he begs.
“Have you ever thought about writing poetry?” she asks while on the subway heading to Magnus’s for the birthday party he and Alec have been not-so-secretly planning for weeks.
“No,” Jace admits. “I’m a Shadowhunter, we-”
“Don’t give me that,” Clary said. “You’re the one who said I would draw again even though I’m a Shadowhunter now. I’ll bet you could write poetry if you practiced. You should give it a shot.”
“Perhaps,” he says and eventually he does take her advice, though he doesn’t mention it to anyone for years. (The first of his poems that he shares is the one he writes for his and Clary’s wedding. He reads it aloud during the reception and they’re both crying by the time he finishes.)
But that is, unfortunately, years later. Right now there are other things to deal with.
When the Lightwoods had returned to New York after the Mortal War, they had found the door to Max’s bedroom open, how he had most likely left it in his excitement to leave for Alicante. Jace, Isabelle and Alec had discovered this because their bedrooms were all in the same hallway as Max’s. Isabelle had turned and fled to her room, but Jace and Alec had stood in the hallway for what felt like an endless period of time.  Eventually, Alec had closed the door firmly and walked away.
It doesn’t seem like Max’s room will ever be opened again by the time Clary is finally judged ready for her first real demon hunt. Given that Clary has already killed her fair share of demons, Jace wouldn’t be worried about it if Elijah Highsong wasn’t required by Clave law to come with them.
“You know, it’s almost hilarious that he’s giving us tips on how not to be eaten by demons,” Jace hisses to Clary as they’re arming themselves to go out, “when he’s the one most likely to be eaten by demons tonight.” Clary laughs and that sends Highsong into a twenty minute lecture about how demon hunting is a serious business and should not laughed about.
Somehow, the demon hunt goes fine. Surprisingly, and perhaps somewhat disappointingly, Highsong manages to survive. The tutor doesn’t seem to realize that he’d been entirely useless and had to be protected by a bunch of teenagers. Jace is honestly beginning to be thankful that this man isn’t on patrol, because he’d likely get another Shadowhunter killed.
They drop Clary off at Jocelyn and Luke’s and head back to the Institute. They had the early shift tonight, so there’s still plenty of time to get a decent amount of sleep before morning. They are climbing the Institute steps and Elijah Highsong has been rattling on since they got relieved. Jace has mostly stopped listening when the tutor says, “And then there’s those idiots too stupid to keep their children away from danger!”
Isabelle and Jace go so still and quiet that Highsong actually stops talking and looks at them in confusion.
“What did you say?” Isabelle asks, very tensely. There’s a warning in her voice that Jace recognizes immediately, but Highsong doesn’t.
“People should keep better track of their children,” Highsong says, chest puffing out in pride at the thought of telling them something they don’t know. “We lead dangerous lives and Shadowhunter parents should be aware of that and keep better watch over their children. If something horrible happens to a Shadowhunter child the family has no one to blame but themselves.”
For a moment that stretches on into infinity, neither Jace nor Isabelle responds. Then Isabelle takes an unsteady breath. “Damn you,” she snarls to Highsong, lips and hands trembling, “Damn you.” Then she turns and flees into the Institute.
Highsong’s mouth opens and closes a couple times. “What--She--I demand respect!”
“You do realize,” Jace says before the tutor can say anything more. “That Sebastian Morgenstern killed our baby brother during the Mortal War, don’t you?”
He doesn’t wait for Highsong to figure out what to say, and just heads inside. Izzy has barricaded herself in her bedroom and screams at him to go away when he knocks. Eventually he gives up and wanders along the mostly dark hallway. He plans to go back to his room to try to sleep when he finds himself standing outside Max’s door, still shut tightly. Almost without thinking, he finds himself opening the door and letting himself inside.
The room is just how it was before they left for Alicante during the Mortal War. Toys and manga volumes and clothes and training weapons are strewn across the floor in a way that sets Jace’s teeth on edge. Part of him wants to clean up, to set everything in order, but the rest of him wants to preserve the room like this forever, as a tiny piece of Max to hang onto. This is not right. Max was just a kid, he should not have been hurt, but then Jace knows better than to expect anything even approaching that level of humanity from Sebastian.
When morning finally comes Jace has somehow ended up lying on his stomach on Max’s bed. He watches the sunlight creep across the floor through eyes which are scratchy with tears and lack of sleep. He should get up and get ready for training, but he can’t find it in him to move. He still hasn’t moved when, some interminable amount of time later, the door opens and someone steals quietly into the room.
“Jace?” It’s Clary. Of course it is. None of the Lightwoods would have come into this room, even to confirm he wasn’t there. “Are you alright?”
Jace shrugs, he’s too exhausted for words let alone his usual cockiness.
Clary crosses the room and sits down on the edge of the bed, looking into his face with a serious expression. “Did you get any sleep?” she asks, running a hand through his hair.
Jace shakes his head.
“Izzy says we’re all boycotting training today,” Clary says conversationally. “What happened?”
Jace clears his throat and manages to speak, “What did Izzy tell you?”
“Just that none of us are training and then a list of anatomically unlikely and increasingly vulgar things Elijah Highsong can do to himself,” Clary says. She pauses for a moment and when Jace doesn’t respond says, “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want.”
“He just said something thoughtless about Shadowhunters who lose young children,” Jace forces the words out. His whole body feels like it’s made out of lead. He’s so tired. “I don’t think he even remembered about...about Max.”
Clary’s whole body tenses in anger, but she doesn’t prod any further. Instead she coxes Jace to his feet, leads him back to his room and tucks him into bed. When he’s comfortable, she settles against his headboard with her sketchbook balanced against her raised knees. “What should I draw?” she asks.
“Something happy,” Jace mumbles, snuggling in closer to her.
She chews on her lip for a moment, then begins to sketch the outline of a person. He watches in fascination as the random lines begin to coalesce into an image. He loves watching her draw.
It only takes a few minutes for him to realize that she’s drawing him. “You should draw yourself too,” he slurs sleepily. “I’ve never seen you draw yourself.”
“That’s because I’m bad at it,” Clary says. “My self-portraits never look good.”
“I’ll bet that’s not true,” He says, losing the battle to keep his eyes open. “Everything you draw looks amazing.”
When he next opens his eyes, Clary is talking quietly with Isabelle and Alec who apparently came over and kept Izzy company up on the roof all day. They’re discussing going to Taki’s for supper and whether or not Elijah Highsong deserves more punishment than just being snubbed. Clary’s sketchbook is lying on the bed, open to an almost-completed sketch of her and Jace smiling, their arms wrapped around each other.
The likeness is almost perfect.
